Major Themes In The Fifth Wave By Rick Yancey
The Fifth Wave Theme Essay
The author of the The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey, had several prominent themes. Three were most vital;
first, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, second, people are defined by the choices
they make, and third, family is worth living for. These are the best and most important motifs of The
5th Wave. The first theme, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, recurs during
several incidences which reinstates the significance. For example, Ben tries to make Ringer smile
despite being in the midst of the end of the world. When Cassie and Sammy reunite, he goes back to
his five year old self despite his being in boot camp for months prior, and lastly, Cassie and Evan flirt

Finally, Cassie had little to no human contact before she was shot in the leg and saved by Evan Walker
but she still did not hesitate to kiss him, cuddle, fight, or anything that a normal couple would do.
After fighting with each other, Evan Walker kisses me. Holding my hand against his chest, his other
hand sliding across my neck... Despite Cassie being shot in the leg by an unknown shooter, aliens
trying to take over the Earth, her brother being taken, and her family being dead, she is still a teenage
girl who enjoys male interaction.
An additional theme heavily shown throughout the book is people are defined by the choices they
make . Ben left his little sister, Sissy, to die, even though he could have made an effort to save her;
because he left her, he now vows not to run from danger or those things which scare him.
Furthermore, Cassie promises Sammy that she will find him and, because she makes that promise, she
will stop at nothing to be with him again.
At the beginning of the arrival, Ben and his family stayed at their house. One night, there are gunshots
and screams heard coming from their neighbors house; Ben s mother demands them to blow out the
candles which lit the rooms and his father told Ben that If anything happens to me, take care of your
mother and baby sister, (Page 117). After that, the door crashes open and Ben s father shoots the male
intruder to no avail his father is then shot in the face and Ben

Similarities Between Memory And The Movie And Movie
Memory and the Past Do you know that Rebecca was the best seller novel sold between 1938 and
1965? The novel was written by Daphne du Maurier in 1938. The story is a mixture of love and hate
for the primary characters in Rebecca novel. It begins when a young, poor woman who works with
Ms. Van Hopper meets Maxim de Winter. Then the young women, narrator, feels in love with Maxim
de Winter and decide to get married to go with him to Manderley. After that she meets Mrs. Danvers
and the narrator feels uncomfortable because she seems like a devil woman. The narrator feels deeply
frustrate and upset because she thinks Maxim loves Rebecca crazily. Then she founds the secret that
Maxim does not love Rebecca, so she becomes better and gets confidence again. Furthermore Maxim
meets Dr. Baker and he tells him that Rebecca is not pregnant, but she has had a cancer. In the end,
Maxim returns back to Manderley and sees his home burning. The director of the movie is Alfred
Hitchcock, and it was released in 1940. There are several similarities and differences between the
novel and the film. There are three main similarities between the novel and the film. The first
similarity is in the narrator character. In both the novel and the film narrator is naive, sensitive, very
shy, does not have enough experience in life and she is from ordinary family. Also ... Show more

The Haunted Palace By Edgar Allan Poe Literary Devices
The poem The Haunted Palace by Edgar Allan Poe is an electrifying piece that tells the readers about a
beautiful palace with a happy king who existed some long ago, though he later falls to ruin. The poem
uses an image of a decaying haunted mansion, which remains as a calling metaphor for insanity. The
piece, which is written in a ballad form, begins with a vivid description of an awesome palace that
stood in a green valley. The speaker talks about the yellow banners and states that the travelers passing
through the valley could see through the windows of the palace and admired its beauty. Inside the
palace were spirits dancing to lute music to entertain the king and his visitors. The description
symbolizes an ancestral home as well as a name that underwent a physical and mental decline. The ...

This work represents an infinite power study, which appreciates that every writer has a unique way of
employing writing styles that make him or her distinct from the way he or she keeps the audience on
the show of what he or she intends them to infer from the piece. In a snapshot, it is noticeable that Poe
used setting, imagery, and symbolism. It is also important to note that literary devices stimulate
readership and makes the audience to feel complicit with the author s point of view. For instance, there
is an adroit use of setting. It is apparent that the poem belongs to the Gothic age or rater a dark
romanticism genre. The poem is made of six stanzas and forty eight lines. The piece is made
brilliantly, and skillfully metaphorically crafted to compare the palace to the human skull and mind.
The set consists of a beautiful palace, which represents that human mind as well as a valley, which
represents the human skull and the two progressively descends to ruin. Therefore, the piece is an
important one that makes the readers see the world

Taking a Look at Social Engineering
Social engineering is a method of hacking in which attackers utilize personal or not so personal
information to impersonate the rightful owner of an account. They call up the company in question
and engineer a reset of the account permissions that allow them to take over. The idea is to trick a
company s employee into revealing passwords or critical information that may be used to compromise
security.
Phishing is a criminal activity using different variations of social engineering techniques. Phishers
attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information ( passwords, credit card info) by posing as a
trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out using
email or an IM (instant message) although phone contact has known to also have been used . The
damage caused by phishing ranges from loss of access to email and to substantial financial loss. This
style of identity theft is becoming more popular, because of the ease with which unsuspecting people
often divulge personal information to phishers (credit card numbers, social security numbers, and
mothers maiden names). Once this information is acquired, the phishers may use a person s details to
create fake accounts in a victim s name and ruin a victim s credit, or even prevent victims from
accessing their own accounts.

Dash Cams And The Law Enforcement
In today s society we see more and more advancement of technology. Anything and everything that we
want or need can be accessed just by the touch of a button. Law enforcement has stepped up to plate
with implementing the use of dashboard cameras as well as body cameras as means to provide clarity
to traffic stops and criminal acts. Within the past few years there has been a rising amount of claims of
police brutality which in turn have led to many riots in different states across the United States. There
has also been a significant amount of crimes committed against law enforcement as well. In a
profession where it often comes down to two very different versions of the same event, dash cams
have proven a useful tool. In some ways, a law enforcement officer who can serve an entire career
without facing some sort of civil liability is an anomaly. More and more, patrol men and women are
finding themselves the target of disgruntled citizens. This usually results in complaints to the agency
and/or a lawsuit. (Nash Scarberry, 2014)
Dashboard cameras have been around for some time now with body cameras being introduced in as
well to help verify what has taken place on certain events throughout traffic stops. There is no longer
just a he said/she said side of the story. Live footage is being received and viewed in order to not only
record the stop but to aid in training purposes for law enforcement. Training academies and
supervisors can replay the footage in order to show what

The Verchimelungsmaifest Gegen Den Rationalismus Der...
This manifesto, originally called the Verchimelungsmaifest gegen den Rationalismus in der
Architektur , has been presented during a recitation in the Abbey of Seckau, in Austria, on the 4th of
July 1958, by his author Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Hundertwasser (Friedrich Stowasser; born 15 December 1928 in Vienna) was an Austrian visionary
architect, artist and spiritual ecologist, founder of the Transautomatism theory and style. He believed
that he was at the vanguard of the Avant guard, transcending the automatism of the Tachism and the
Informalism, reaching this way an ultimate unsurpassable point, from which all improvements and
efforts can be inspected and organized as a meaningful whole.
He often referred to himself as the architecture doctor, redesigning functional and industrial building
into art pieces.
Abstract
This paper deals with the idea that everyone should have freedom in architecture, the same freedom
that everyone has in painting and sculpture: to produce any kind of work and afterwards exhibit it.
This freedom can only be achieved if we let everyone build his own dwellings and be the architect
bricklayer occupant of the building, as this is the only way for the man to regain his critical creative
function, without which he cannot exist as a human being. The author compares people living in
buildings built following functional architecture rules, to animals living in cages, all equally foreign to
the nature of the cage . Straight lines are

Essay on The Media Violence Debate
THE MEDIA VIOLENCE DEBATE
Introduction
Television and video games are favorite ways teenagers spend their leisure hours. Parents and teens
themselves have wondered about their effects because of numerous concerns raised with regards to the
negative influences that these form of entertainment bring. Many of today s children grow up with a
television at home or even in their own rooms and there have been studies dedicated to the analysis of
their impact of a young child growing up to adolescence. Young children are heavily influenced by
television and video games, many of which are educational. While there are fun educational shows

How the contents or messages come through changes the attitude of the viewers or readers. The
messages that each kind of media exposes are dependent on person s view. He compares movies and
television in their manner of viewing and content saying that the visual presentation presents different
types of influences. Media as a vessel of influential messages is an essential point to consider to every
person who is into the broadcast and print industry.
Video Games Violence
Video games are a lucrative business anywhere in the world today, claiming US$ 10 billion in sales in
the United States alone in one year. However, with this increasing sales come serious concerns about
their effects on players, especially teenagers. Researches have been conducted to show the effects of
video games on teenagers. Results prove that there is indeed a high possibility and likelihood of
aggressive and violent behaviors to be manifested in some adolescents who frequently play violent
video games. With these findings, public policy options for limiting distribution of these kind of
games are being created; however, the creation and spread of more video games seem too many too
stop. In 2006, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) reported their findings on studies
conducted on teenagers who play violent games. These young adolescents show long lasting effects of
abnormal brain functions which include

VPNs can be either remote access or site to site. In a corporate setting, remote access VPNs allow
employees to access their company s intranet from home or while traveling away from the office, and
site to site VPNs allow staff member in geographically disparate offices to share one cohesive virtual
network. A VPN also be used to interconnect two similar networks over a dissimilar middle network.
VPN systems may be classified by the protocols used to tunnel the traffic, the tunnel s termination
point location, whether they offer site to site or remote access connectivity, the levels of security
served or the OSI layer they present to the connecting network.
Therefore, in order to prevent exposure of confidential information, VPNs generally allow only
verified remote access and make use of encryption techniques. VPNs provide security by the use of
tunneling protocols and through security procedures such as encryption. The VPN security model give
confidentiality such that even if the network traffic is sniffed at the packet, an attacker would only see
encrypted data, sender authentication to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the VPN and
message integrity to detect any occurence of manipulating with transmitted messages
Secure VPN protocols include the following; Internet Protocol Security

New needs and tensions will arise in each area of life initiating one to seek new ways of adapting to
these new found stressors. In return this forces them to form different kinds of intimate relationships.
This maturation helps forms one s personality (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). Relationships formed
during each stage of life serve as a prototype for interactions in later stages. For this reason, there
exists a continuum of relationships formed throughout a lifetime that shape and mold specific
personality traits. Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, and Lawrence Kohlberg, describe
development as a series of stages. A stage is a period in development in which people exhibit typical
behavior patterns and establish particular capacities (Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). The various stage
theories share three assumptions: First people pass through stages in a specific order, with each stage
building on capacities developed in the previous stage, second stages most related to one s age, third
development is discontinuous, with qualitatively different capacities emerging in each stage
(Kowalski, amp; Westen, 2002). Heredity VS. Environment, otherwise known as the nature vs. nurture

Growth Matrix Of Ansoff
To assess the growth and business strategy of Pfizer Bristol Myers Squibb, we will make use of Ansoff
s growth matrix. Ansoff s growth matrix is a valid way to find out which business strategy and growth
strategy the business use. The model states which strategy or strategies a company has adopted in
order to grow. According to Ansoff there are four possible alternatives a company can use:
· Market Penetration the company seeks to achieve growth within its existing products in their current
market segments, thereby aiming to increase its initial market share.
· Market Development the company seeks growth by aiming its existing products towards new market
segments.
· Product Development the company seeks to develop new products and target these to its existing

strategy is by M A s, which only adds more risk, since many factors may affect the mergers acquisition
negatively. Furthermore did we find out that in general the pharmaceutical companies will more or

possible revenue, but also those that are in the highest risk for failure. Normally what is seen, as the

Essay American Empire
Michael Cox s thesis as outlined in Empire by Denial? Debating US Power , is chiefly that: the United
States of America is an empire, and that current beliefs to the contrary are the result of denialism due
to negative connotations associated with the concept of empire, not due to a lack of suitability of that
term to describe the current state of American foreign policy. The first issue which Cox raises is that
of a lack of understanding of and study into the concept of empire by current research in the field of
international relations (Cox 2004, p230). This element would appear to be sound, but only in so far as
it relates to Cox s other assertion that the orthodoxy of American society and academia are opposed to
labelling America an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument becomes unconvincing when it becomes clear that Cox is playing the role of both
legislature and judiciary, crafting the terms to meet his needs and then applying them. Whilst the
underlying evidence he presents is sound, the multitude of conflicting arguments make clear the
selectivity in evidence employed in order to reach these conclusions (Security Dialogue 2004). As
with any argument though concerning matters of perspective, both our own status as outsiders, and
that of Cox, being himself British born (FORA.tv 2007), lead credence to Cox s assertion of an
American empire, himself asserting the supposed obviousness of his thesis to anyone outside of the
USA. Recognising and accounting for this though, the evidence offered about the many non standard
forms of empire are still sound. Fisher (1984) highlights the success of British incorporation of local
political structures into its empire, and Cox s contention that American promotion of seemingly anti
imperial ideas of democracy and self determination are not in contradiction to its presiding over an
empire are sound on examination of the underlying elements. The cohesive strength of an American
empire lies not in the hard power capabilities of the USA to enforce their will, but in the loose and
forgiving way in which it rules

Science Fiction and the future are often interpreted in various different ways in both film and text.
However the way in which both Hover Car Racer, written by Matthew Reily and Back to the Future

similar to the one we know today. Both Zemeckis and Reily interpret the future in a different manner,
yet the predicted future shares many similarities including the use of Hover Technology as a

Hofstede s Four Cultural Differences
1. Using Hofstede s four cultural dimensions as a point of reference, what are some of the main
cultural differences between the United States and France?
When referencing Hofstede s four cultural dimensions it is apparent that the United States and France
have different perceptions of one another. The United States views the French as arrogant, flamboyant,
hierarchical, and emotional. Whereas, France views the United States as naive, aggressive,
unprincipled, and it s people being workaholics. (Doh and Luthans, 2015)
The first main cultural difference would be power distance. The power distance dimension indicates
the point at which the less powerful members of organizations and institutions accept and expect that
power is distributed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The French would rather have well structured management with rules and regulations in place rather
than take risks that may not have a positive outcome. Whereas, Americans are the complete opposite,
meaning that they are more willing to take risks and are less traditional when it comes to rules and
regulations.
The third cultural difference is masculinity. Masculinity is defined by Hofstede as a trait, which
emphasizes ambition, acquisition of wealth and differentiated gender roles. (Tidwell, n.d) A society
that is focused on money and success is said to be high in masculinity. The United States is an
example of an area that is high in this dimension. For example, when the Disney company decided on
opening a park in France they didn t even take into consideration how the French would react or what
type of impact this could have on the their culture. Being that they have the masculine characteristics
they were more concerned about wanting to prevail on others.
The fourth cultural difference is individualism. According to Hofstede individualism is defined as the
tendency of the people to mainly look after themselves and their immediate family. (ClearlyCultural,
n.d) In the United States and France individualism is pretty high. However, individualism is slightly
higher in the United States being that they are more likely to

Brown V. Board Education was one important because it ended school segregation. Most of the people
who wanted this to happen were mostly people in school. Also is mostly the African American people
who wanted this changed for their own good. Also there was this time this African American family

Essay on William Shakespeare s 18th and 55th Sonnets
William Shakespeare s 18th and 55th Sonnets
Both William Shakespeare s 18th and 55th sonnet s are full and complete examples of poetry at its
best, and, while studying Shakespeare s form is very important, it is equally so to look at the content
and even further deep to its true meanings. His techniques which have immortalized him over several
centuries are displayed at their best while still capturing his goal of honoring his lover.
Although the two poems were written separately, the shared theme is evident and they almost seem to
flow together. In the 18th sonnet, Shakespeare begins by comparing his lover to a summer s day,
which may be seen as a high compliment. Upon reading further, you find that not even the sun and ...

Through the previous lines, he expressed the link of future lovers to the life of his own. He speaks of
broken marble, neglected tombs, war, fire, and the greatest challenge, time, but, through it all, his love
will live on in the eyes of the future.
In his elaborate comparisons, Shakespeare uses extensive imagery along with personification and
analogies from the very beginning of the 18th sonnet where he characterizes the admired one as a
summer s day. His descriptions of besmeared tombs and the fiery wars described in the 55th pull the
reader in and force a vision of impending doom, only to be brought back out to a more serene feel by
the ending lines describing eternal life and love. Things not usually mobile are brought to life by his
personification, such as the sun and his golden complexion in the ever famous 18th sonnet. Even more
moving is the characterization of death, made human and able to do such things as brag and consume
one in his looming shade. The wind is given the power to blow itself and shake the darling buds of
May while in the 55th Shakespeare declares mortal men unable to outlive this powerful rhyme,
making it nearly god like.
The mysterious lover discussed so often in his works brings them the writing to life and fills us with
questions as to who this powerful figure in William Shakespeare s life could have been. One

Analysis Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
In Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption the prison acts as a microcosm reflecting the
structures of the capitalist society to what extent do you agree with this view?
One critic named Terry Eagleton, stated It is capitalism, not Marxism that trades in futures. This quote
alone suggests the extent of what capitalism is to some Marxist critiques and this one is suggesting
that the future is traded upon capitalism which relates to King s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank
Redemption as the prison system does determine the future of inmates yet inside the prison there is a
capitalist structure. I will look at a plethora of characters in the novella and explore how their roles in
the prison are used to reflect capitalist society: Andy a bourgeoisie socially but a proletariat politically,
Red who goes under the system whom also, serves the proletariat even though he is one himself and
the warden that uses his role as the bourgeoisie for corruption and power over the inmates. Despite the
inmates being in a confined space and managed by the outside world. It could be argued that the
Shawshank prison is formulating a society of their own.
Kings use of the character, Andy, is vague. As it could be argued that his role changes throughout the
novella. It could be said that there are many interpretations to where Andy s character develops as he
can be measured by his political and social class as we see done by the prisoners and the wider
society. Reiman wrote a book titled the rich get richer and the poor get prison this pragmatically
shows that those who are poor go to prison. However, this is not the case with Andy due to the fact
before he was in prison he was a successful banker so in fact he was not poor, opposing the view, that
Reiman is signifying. Somewhat suggesting that King is stating that society could have an impact on
any group of people regardless of what the backgrounds are or the backgrounds of the individual.
Andy was a banker before he came to the Shawshank prison. In some lens he would be perceived as a
bourgeoisie because of the class that would have been in. However, from a political lens it would be
evident that Andy could be a proletariat for the ranks of the company that he had

Social Communication And Human Characteristics Of Social...
It is extremely important to understand the traits of social media and the human factors impacting
technology because if we did not, there would be a lot more miscommunications and
misunderstandings between people. For example, social media users need to understand that social
media communication is limited compared to face to face communication. Factors such as Temporal
Structure, which is the time it takes to send and receive a message, affect how effective social media
communication is. Also, Asynchronous communication, which is communication that occurs when
participants are not co present, could cause communication problems because the people who are
communicating might not be as involved in a conversation. Tone and other signs that people give off
to relay emotions and messages are not present in many social communication forms as well.
There are three key steps in the Perception Process. The first is to Observe someone s behavior and
determine what the behavior means. The second is to describe the behavior to the person objectively.
It is important to not show any approval or disapproval to their actions in this step. Next, you explain
your personal perception of the behavior. This step is very important because you let the person know
how YOU feel, and this will allow them to respond to your feelings accordingly. It is also important to
be ready to change or alter your perception based on the person s reaction to your perception checking
process.
Automatic social cognition or perception means that someone is arriving to conclusions about
situations, people, or themselves, without much conscious awareness or intention on what the future
effects might be. On the other hand, conscious or controlled cognition means that someone is stopping
to think about something intentionally, because they realise that their thoughts can affect what happens
in a situation. This means that automatic social cognition is always happening and can lead to
someone making decisions and judgements that are not very thought out or reasonable. One time I
made the automatic and unconscious assumption that someone was weird just because they watched
Japanese cartoons, I told my friend and this ended up spreading to the person I was

Resistance Of Change And Change Management
Resistance to Change
NASA had a firm hierarchy and this brought about a lot of resistance to change from people. NASA
could have gotten more of the people involved in the changes. I find that by getting people involved
and having some key people or champions to support the change, there is less resistance. People want
to feel involved and a part of decisions, especially if it impacts them directly. When it comes to
successful change management, get people involved earlier, which will contribute to greater buy in
and acceptance. Keep in mind that this should not be the sole solution for employee resistance;
successful change management is about understanding the true nature of the resistance.
Often times change management can be so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Change implementation entails identifying the structure as is, present problems, current process and its
resources as well as how resources are coupled to the system. Deep thought process needs to be
undertaken to see the impact of replacing systems, process, and resources with another one.
Furthermore, before that an analysis needs to be performed identifying the possible alternative and
how that will address the issue and improve the overall mechanism (Creasey, 2014). However, these
analyses were not performed in this NASA episode. The recommendation was just laid over. As
mentioned in the case study, there was a lot of pressure on the contractors and staff by keeping current
schedules instead of revising and reducing some of the pressure. This statement clearly states that the
primary issue of (as is issue) unrealistic flight schedules were retained, resulting in less focus on
quality and heavy pressure on employees to perform. The managers still were the same and added
outsourcing process, which became disastrous as they were not monitored and controlled enough. Did
the change actually happen? The answer is a typical no. There was one more disaster, now Columbia
shuttle. The Primary reason behind that is again unrealistic schedule planning, leading to low focus on
quality and high pressure. Management did not encourage people to communicate about

Dna Sequence Variation Of Different Ants
Understanding the different populations in the world can be very interesting. It can be interesting
because it is curious to question whether or not some species can be similar or different even if they
live in different habitat. Therefore, this persuaded me to go deeper in figuring out if there is a
relationship between different species that are raised and born in different habitat. This lead me to the
question: If investigating the DNA sequence variation of different ants, will there be a significant
different in the population of the ants being found in different areas? It is hypothesized that there will
be a significant difference in the DNA sequence if the ants are found in different areas because they do
live in different habitats ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the ants were placed in the gel it was sent off to be sequence and that is where the phylogenetic
tree was able to be created to analyze if there is a significant difference in the two species. When
performing the experiment, the trickiest part in doing this experiment is removing the supernatant
from the tube and leaving a small pellet of DNA because in some of the tube the pellet was hard to see
with a naked eye. Therefore, the supernatant had to be removed carefully so that none of the pellet
DNA was removed along with it. When going through this experiment, three different trials were
performed because put in the spectrophotometer, the DNA of the ants were not picking up in the files.
Carpenter ants were used at first, then gall wasps were used and last we went back and used carpenter
ants and red fire ants. When we used the carpenter ants again along with the red fire ants, DNA was
found and we were able to sequence the DNA. This figure shows the gel electrophoresis were we
performed our first ant. Although the data may look good. It was not good because no DNA was found
in the ants through this process. This figure shows the spectrophotometer that was done for one of the
gall wasp flies. It demonstrated that one of the DNA barely presented in the TE solution which was a
good result. However, we used 10 gall wasp and only one presented good data with the DNA. The
others did not which caused use to use another organism. When we used

Histrionic Personality Disorder Analysis
Those living with histrionic personality disorder are referred to as drama queens . Often such persons
are uncomfortable in situations where they are not the center of attention. People with this disorder are
often charming, flirtatious or seductive, and like to dress in an inappropriately provocative way
(Larsen, 2014). They can be theatrical, behaving or expressing emotions in a manner that draws
attention to themselves. Yet simultaneously, their emotional are shallow, lacking in detail and easily
changed. This gives them the air of being hollow and insincere. Moreover, the drama and strong
emotional display often embarrasses friends and family as they may embrace even casual
acquaintances with excessive enthusiasm, or may sob uncontrollably over some minor sentimentality.

This gives rise to the issue of comorbidity. a problem that means those meeting the criteria for a
diagnosis one personality disorder will also meet the criteria for diagnosis for another personality
disorder (Larsen, 614).
Diagnosis:
Personality disorders such as histrionic personality disorder are typically diagnosed by a psychologist
or psychiatrist. There are no laboratory, blood or genetic tests that can be utilized to diagnose
histrionic personality disorder. Many people diagnosed with histrionic personality disorder avoid
seeking treatment. People with personality disorders do not often seek out treatment until the disorder
starts to significantly interfere or impact the persons daily life.
Causes/ Etiology:
We know that both nature and nurture play fundamental roles in creating personality disorders. We
also know neither is capable of forming a personality disorder separate from the other. What we don t

the product in the Super Bowl. According to cns.com, Breathe Right Strips is also available in vapor

This can make it more of a need item rather than a luxury item. They could benchmark the product
developed by gin miller. They could make the product reusable. This would also attract the people of
developing countries who don t have the disposable income to continue to buy the product. Another
way to do this is dumping. They could severely reduce the price of the product initially to create the
demand, and then slowly increase the price as the demand rises for the product. They can also create
signage to attract buyers in the pharmacies that have the product displayed behind the counters. They
can also develop billboards and other advertising that is tailored and messages the local customs and
beliefs of the different geographical sectors. They can also give out coupons to attract people that are
unaware of the product. They can also opt to do what they have always done, because the product is
successful. To take the do nothing approach is dreadful, because the competition is out there lurking,
just waiting for CNS to rest on their laurels. Conclusion The CNS Company is already a successful
company due to the achievements of its breathing right strips. In my analysis we learned that they
already do a lot of things right. What they need to be aware of is the different economical situations in
the global marketplace, there are different ways that the product is approved abroad, and there is
competition lurking. CNS needs to continue

Discontinuous Species Criticisms
Nature is very much discontinuous, but natural selection acts in a continuous manner, so the hard part
is finding out how nature is filled with these discrete and discontinuous groups called species. The
common criticism is that the inability to observe the formation of the new species means natural
selection is causing it, and the species never actually form, but as Coyne says, ...it s like saying that
because we haven t seen a single star go through its complete life cycle, stars don t evolve, or because
we haven t see a new language arise, languages don t evolve (183). Just because we aren t seeing the
new species form right away, it doesn t mean it isn t happening. As stated before, it can take a lot time
for a new species to form. The three step process for speciation to occur includes: the initial step of

Some pre zygotic isolating mechanisms include: temporal, ecological, behavioral, and mechanical.
Temporal isolating mechanisms include the time at which species mate during the year can affect the
possibility of two species mating together. Ecological isolating mechanisms include the habitat in

species and how they are able to find mate. An example includes male birds having specific songs
they sing to find females. Mechanical isolating mechanisms include the way in which a species will

Homelessness Problem
Homelessness has seen an increase in Portland even with the 10 year plan to end chronic
homelessness being enacted, falling behind the country as a whole in the quest to get the poor and
vulnerable indoors. Currently, the nation is nearing its ten year plan to end chronic homelessness,
which has resulted in little to no progress. This is quite concerning because a homeless person on the
street will cost the city more per year than if the city invested more in guiding the homeless into stable
housing. Experts say the main way to end homelessness in Portland is to create much more affordable
housing, help train the homeless to be self sufficient, and creating a social safety net to prevent people
from falling into homelessness in the first place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of people who live on the streets disabled, vulnerable, or inexperienced has been steadily
rising in Portland. Along with the fact that there is little affordable housing for those who do manage
to find a job, it is nearly impossible for someone to find their way back into a stable life. While there
are many problems with homelessness, there are solutions to not only get the homeless out of the
streets and into housing, but to also help the homeless acquire career related skills, and prevent people
from falling into homelessness in the first place. Until we have permanent solutions to homelessness
places like CIty Team Ministries will alleviate the issues that the homeless face everyday, but even the
combined efforts of all shelters is not enough to stop homelessness. In the country s present state,
almost anyone can go from living comfortably, to sleeping on the streets very quickly. Solving

An Emerging Information Security Threat
An emerging information security threat is the use of Ransomware by hackers. A recent example
occurred in 2012 when Russian hackers held the Miami Family Medical Centre in Queensland to
ransom after accessing their server remotely and running encryption software on it, encrypting
thousands of patient health records. The hackers encrypted the whole SQL database, about 6500 files,
by going through and searching for every doc, xls, txt, pdf, mdb, mdf i.e. all of the standard data files.
The hackers accessed the data through a Remote Desk Protocol (RDP) port that was open and part of
the standard Windows 2003 Small Business Server Premium package. The hackers cracked the user
and password restricted access. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The owners of the Medical Practice thought they had a good system in place, they had antivirus but
this was not a virus.
The hackers were very strategic in their attack. Quite apart from deliberately exploiting a vulnerable
flaw in the medical practice s IT security, they made sure the ransom they demanded was not
ridiculously high to maximise the chances of the victim s likelihood to pay. They chose a medical
practice probably because they thought doctors had money and a compelling motive to pay the
ransom.
Fortunately the owners had a partial back up of the data and while they didn t recover completely they
were eventually able to get back to business but only after a very long time.
In this case bringing the hackers to justice was impossible. IT security expert Nigel Phair, the director
of the Centre for Internet Safety and a former investigator with the Australian High Tech Crime
Centre, says the hackers are not easy to trace and international police investigations are difficult. In a
lot of those places law enforcement isn t that strong and so it s difficult to get cooperation with local
police. (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012 12 10/hackers target gold coast medical centre/4418676,
Accessed 7 October 2014)
Mr Phair says this attack is a wake up call with businesses around Australia hacked five to ten times a
week. Cyber criminals based mainly throughout Eastern Europe look for rich targets with identifying

Abstract
It is widely argued that Marine Pollution is becoming a highly debated topic as this industry makes
billions of dollars without attention to the marine life. It therefore stands to reason that the United
Nations are taking a great interest in getting countries to at least look at local legislation to govern
their territorial waters. Using a report from 2002, examining these unsolicited contributions through
waste streams and other impacts will demonstrate that the problems are still widely present perhaps
due to the influence by the cruise liners. It is my intention to highlight the damages to our cruise

3. Are the cruise vessels conscience of the damage caused and do they care?
4. What is the international community doing to help in the fight of marine and ocean destruction by

Research Questions Key questions will arise in conducting this research. Such highlights areas we
take for granted but are still useful in finding solutions to what can be a potential problem. The
environment division is a watchdog in Antigua and Barbuda to ensure that marine life is preserved and
maintained. Therefore, it makes sense that questions listed below are poignant in determining
solutions for the cruise industry:
1. Are cruise lines to be blamed for ocean pollution?
2. What are some recommendations that could assist the fight in ocean pollution?
Purpose Statement The purpose of this paper is to examine the level of pollution caused by cruise
vessels in our oceans. This is an important subject because in Antigua and Barbuda, Tourism is
everybody s business , as our main motto will illustrate. We cannot improve on cruise ship calls and
do not look at potential damages or potential solutions to already damaged marine life because this
will affect tourist arrivals and so forth; Imagine a country that cannot boast its marine life because of
pollutants that erode that market, then what sense will the cruise ships come to our shores? This is the
reason to carefully evaluate the effects of the cruise tourism and cruise

Compare And Contrast The New England And Massachusetts...
Although the New England and Chesapeake colonies were settled by people of English origin, by
1700 they were two distinct societies. What accounts for these differences? Basically, the motives, the
geography and the values of the people in the colonies were combined to form two very separate
societies in Massachusetts and Virginia. Of course both societies contain settlers from Britain.
However, the motives and the values in each society were drastically different from each other. Most
people who went to Massachusetts have done so because they hope to create an utopia for their
religious beliefs. Most people to Virginia, look for economic opportunity in many different ways.
People who have gone to Virginia were seeking economic opportunity. Some were there to look for
gold, but others came to work as indentured servants for a few years. Additionally, there were people
sent to serve as wives for the men already there. In return for their service as servants, they should
have acquired passage to America, shelter, food, and clothes (Indenture Agreement Between Richard
Smyth and Margaret Williams, 1659). Those who were in pursuit for gold, were also traveling because

They had undergone commitments of loyalty to the Church of England (Ship List: Virginia, 1636). It
also implies that the new settlement in Virginia would be composed of young, single men, which
would impact satisfaction in the colony. Some structures built in Virginia shows how their values and
relations with the Church of England impacted the style and property of religious structures. The most
noticeable similarity between European churches and St. Luke s Church is that they both have stained
glass windows (St. Luke s Church, 1682), representing the Virginia s loyalty to the Church of

Robbie And Frank
Technology companies invest millions of dollars in artificial intelligence and robots to make the
robots simulate human mental abilities. During the time of Asimov, there was no Internet, cell phones
or laptops, but he thought that in the future there will be Robots. However, Asimov reveals the
relationship between humans and robots in his novel.
The story of Robbie , shows that people are afraid of robots. At the beginning of the story Robbie and
Gloria were playing hide and seek in the yard and in this part, the relationship between Robbie and
Gloria is strange because Gloria is over controlling Robbie and she is mean to him and does not treat
him nicely, especially, when She slapped her hand against Robbie s torso, Bad boy! I ll spank you!
(page3). Similarly, Robbie and Gloria were playing in the field, and

human people still think that robots are dangerous. However, the question is even if robots have
feelings, can robots and humans live together safely? When Robbie wants the story, he made the semi
circle and that s obvious that he cannot talk, but readers can see that Mrs. Weston is afraid of him, I
won t have my daughter entrusted to a machine and I do not care how clever it is (page 9), as well as
the villagers, most of the villagers consider Robbie dangerous. Children are not allowed to go near our

Essay about Renting Versus Buying
Buying a home can be an exciting experience for anyone. However, in some cases you just might be
better off continuing to rent your home. There are many advantages to buying a home. However, it is
not for everyone and buying varies from individual to individual. Currently more people are leaning
towards renting but this could change in the near future.
When someone makes the decision to buy or rent a home they must consider the advantages and
disadvantages of each. In buying a home the primary advantage is that you actually own it. You can do
whatever you want with it. Also, you are building equity as the years go by. People today have
problems saving for their future (CNN Money, 2014). However, when they buy a home, the ... Show

You might be better off paying a reasonable amount for rent and saving your money when buying
seems more logical. Also, it depends on lifestyle preferences. Some people may not want to do all the
work that comes along with owning a home. As of right now many people are leaning towards renting.
This is because the market is going down. Some don t want to commit to a mortgage if when they go
to sell they can t find any buyers.
It is likely that the renting trend will decline and buying will increase in the future but it is hard to say
when. However, if rent keeps rising and prices keep falling, fearful buyers could slowly become
bargain hunters. (Business Week, 2014). I feel that people will eventually get tired of spending there
money on rent and will want to invest more in there future. I don t think that the real estate market will
ever be a boom again. I believe that people have learned that just because interest rates are low doesn t
mean they can financially take on a mortgage. Overall, buying a house is a big decision and should be
looked at carefully. You should look at the advantages and disadvantages of each and decide what is
best for you in your life. There is no way to pin point if buying or renting is best for anyone. Currently
many prefer to rent their homes. However, as rent rise, a majority may soon change their minds.

Walton Art Center Case Study
Walton Art s Center relied on a growth strategy to increase the organizations revenues. Walton focused
on overcoming the downfall, by implementing internal growth through ticket sales (Todd White,
2002). The idea was to increase revenue by changing the programs to something that would attract
new and returning audience s (Todd White, 2002). The growth strategy was a success over all;
Although, there could have been a few changes made in order to increase revenue while saving costs
as well. The low cost strategy could have helped increase customer satisfaction. Furthermore, Walton
could have focused on a low cost investment for ticket sales, while trying to find paramount
performances to obtain new audiences. This could have helped provide

Self Forgiveness
| Shelia B. Hall | | Liberty University | 1/18/2015 |

Summary
Since 1985 there has been a tremendous increase in research regarding intrapersonal forgiveness, but
very little regarding self forgiveness. The purpose of this article was to bring attention to the topic of
self forgiveness within this growing body of research. The definitions of self forgiveness from many
disciplines were reviewed along with what features of self forgiveness differ from those of
intrapersonal forgiveness emphasizing the need for an increase in empirical research on the subject
matter.
There are many unanswered questions regarding self forgiveness. It is questioned if the true self
forgiveness yields the same result as pseudo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The simple act of defining self forgiveness in a way that is applicable across disciplines provides
counselor and researchers a better starting point when approaching the topic of self forgiveness.
One concept I found very interesting was the distinction between true self forgiveness and pseudo self
forgiveness. It is intuitive for me to believe that it is not possible for pseudo self forgiveness to have
the same effect as true self forgiveness, but with out research on the matter how can one be sure.
When I read that the test for self forgiveness cannot differentiate between the two, it made me wonder
if it is difficult for a person or a counselor to know the difference. It also made me wonder if it is
possible that simply believing that things are better can actually make someone feel better.
I also found the question regarding the appropriateness of self forgiveness to be interesting. When a
person believes something is their fault that is not, what approach should a counselor take? Is it more
appropriate to spend the time and effort on developing the skills to know what happened was not the
client s fault, or is it more appropriate to provide the skills that will allow the person to forgive his or
herself for what they believed they caused to happen? While this would have to be considered on a
case by case basis, as a counselor it would be helpful to have more research on the topic that results in
guidance on how to approach these types of

Sir Isaac Newton Essay examples
Born on Christmas Day, 1642, Isaac Newton spent his early childhood in a small farm house in the
hamlet of Woolsthope, sixty miles northwest of Cambridge and one hundred miles from London.
Newton s biological father died before he was born and his mother remarried two years later to the
Reverend Barnabas Smith. Newton attended the King s School at Grantham at the age of twelve but
was brought home by his mother at nearly the age of sixteen to manage the estate. Luckily for science,
Newton showed little interest in farming. Newton s childhood acquaintances remember him building a
model windmill, ingenious water mill and many sun dials (North 5 8). Newton, as an unsuccessful
farmer, entered Trinity College at the age of eighteen. He went ... Show more content on

This discovery enabled him to find the area under almost any algebraic curve in mathematics and
became known as the fundamental theorem of calculus (Westfall 42). Newton s book, Philosophiae
naturalis principia mathematica, often called Principia for short, was completed by April 1686 and is
one of the greatest pieces of scientific literature ever written. Much credit is deserved to Edmond
Halley as his initial visit to Cambridge in the fall of 1684 reminded Newton of the work that needed to
be completed regarding celestial mechanics. This visit prompted the writing of De motu and quickly
lead to the writing of Principia (Cropper 30). Although a groundbreaking piece of literature, the
Principia is one of the most incomprehensible books ever written. In about 500 pages and 340
complicated diagrams, Newton proves his arguments with the use of formally presented propositions
with demonstrations. To understand the arguments explained in the book, the reader must comprehend
each proposition in sequence (Cropper 31). Another problem that renders the Principia very difficult
for the modern reader is that Newton chose to write the book in ancient geometrical style. This style
was preferred by Newton not only because it represented the language of the ancients, but also
because the fluxion language (calculus) he developed had not yet been published. In some aspects, the
Principia, along with

The Stage Of Anticipatory Socialization Process
The chapter that I wrote is socialization process. After my research and study, I have more
understanding the meaning of socialization process. Socialization is the lifelong procedure of
communication through which people gain a self personality and the physical, mental, and social
aptitudes required for survival in the public arena (Hilyer, 2015). It is the procedure of adaptation.
Moreover, socialization likewise is the way toward learning and internalizing the values, convictions,
and norms of our social group and by which we get to be working individuals from society. The
socialization process starts in outset and is particular profitable once a youngster starts to comprehend
and utilize language (Greene, 2015). In view of the elements in socialization, we have a tendency to
have diverse identities in spite of the fact that we are living in a similar society. For instance, the ...

There are anticipatory socialization, the encounter stage and metamorphosis. First and foremost, the
stage of Anticipatory socialization. Anticipatory socialization is intentional changing of standards,
convictions and values. It s likewise a procedure of planning ahead of time for new standards, values
and dispositions (Miles, 2015). This kind of socialization alludes to the procedure wherein a man
practices or hones for future social connections. For instance, a child envisions parenthood as he
observes his parents perform their day by day parts. Besides, individuals once in a while use
anticipatory socialization as an apparatus to assess regardless of whether they will be suited to another
social circumstance. For instance, a couple may live together before marriage, for example, to check
whether their similarity reaches out into everyday household life. Besides, anticipatory socialization
can permit people to change in accordance with new social circumstances that would make them to a

The state of government is also more essential to start up and run the business. The business also has
to up to date about the taxes, rules and legislation as they change very often. Employment law is
coming under the political forces, so, a company must be knowledgeable about that also. Secondly,
economic forces like consumer confidence, employment, interest rates and inflation (ref) also affect
the organization. The Organization also has to keep checking exchange rates if they import raw
materials or some other resources. Social forces, which could also influence the organization like
lifestyles, buying habits, education levels, health consciousness. The population of the country can
also have an impact on the organization, as with the increase in population, demand of products will
also increase.
The fourth external force in the analysis is technological. Some of technological forces are like
computer calculation speed and power of CNC machineries, lathe machine s efficiency and
automation. Productivity also could be higher with the help of technology. By using technology
organization can do online marketing, selling and much more. The second last of these external forces
is legal which are as like as transportation of the product, profit margin and viability. (ref). The tax

Compare And Contrast West Side Story And West Side Story
West Side Story is the iconic American musical that is a 1957 Broadway production choreographed by
Jerome Robbins. Arthur Laurents is the author of the original book with the setting taking place in the
upper west side New York city in a blue collar neighborhood during the mid 1950s. (The Broadway)
Because West Side Story is a movie musical, it will be a lot of narrative conveyed through the song.
The movie West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet have many similarities and differences consider
their plot, their character and their setting. The major plot of the musical is about a rivalry between
two different ethnic group gangs, the Sharks and Jets. The Sharks are Puerto Rican and the Jets are
white. Leonard Bernstein composed the dynamic and influential music. In the mix of the conflict
between the two gangs, a former member of the Jets, Tony, falls in love with the leader of the Sharks
sister, Maria. Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet clearly influenced this movie, and there are parallel
characteristics. For instance, Romeo and Tony, Juliet and Maria, Mercutio and Riff, Tybalt and
Bernardo all have similar characteristics. As for the specific film, I decided to watch the 1961 version.
2. Film Response
In the opening scene with the jets, the orchestral background music painted the picture of the jets
being spontaneous and unpredictable. The music especially designed their personalities well with the
random loud burst of accented notes from the brass. The mood definitely changes

Nuclear Weapons And Weapons Of Mass Destruction
Nuclear Weapons Ever since World War two we have feared destruction and what could be the
aftermath of nuclear bombs. We had a whole era in history to dedicate being terrified of weapons of
mass destruction. We had bomb drills, duck and cover drills. The United States had TV drills if an
attack were to happen on United States soil. For many Americans this was not hysteria, but a reality
that could happen. The first World war chemical weapons were used then outlawed for combat. Unlike
when the U.S. was the only nuclear power and first used the technology against Japan without fear of
reciprocation ( The Ch.1 The Dangers). As a country we didn t know the effects of a bomb on a living
city, but now we know the consequences. Now what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Citizens still haven t went back because of how radioactive the their city is. It would be worse with
weapons because the particles in the air could travel causing more land to be radiated. Nuclear
weapons don t explode on impact, they detonate in the air hence, mushroom clouds are created. The
mushroom cloud is the radioactive particles from the bomb. The obvious answer to fix nuclear
weapons is to get rid of them all but we all know that is unlikely. The United States wouldn t even
bare the idea of getting rid of their nuclear capabilities. The United States may have had 27,519
warheads in 1975, but today that s down to an estimated 4,480 (Szondy). Neither are some other
countries because they are a defense mechanism as well. Nuclear weapons should detonate once upon
hitting a surface. Not all radiation can penetrate walls this concept would inflect less damage on the
foundation of buildings, but the bomb will still be effective. That would prevent the radioactive
particles from being swept across nations or oceans. (The Nuclear Weapons) A treaty was signed that
prohibited the creation of defenses for nuclear weapons due to an advantage they might have if a
nuclear war was to start. The ABM Treaty, signed in 1972, prohibits the use of defensive systems that
might give an advantage to one side in a nuclear war

At 12:10 a.m. on June 13, 1994, the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were
found by Los Angeles Police brutally murdered. Steven Schwab, a neighbor of Nicole, was out with
his dog late at night going for a walk. While they were walking, Schwab came across a dog with blood
on its paws. The dog followed Schwab back to his house, neighbors of Schwab Sukru Boztepe and
Bettina Rasmussen offered to keep the dog overnight. The dog, named Kato was barking and running
around all night. The couple decided to let the dog out and see what he was so wound up about. Kato
led the couple to Nicole s house where they found Nicole and her boyfriend, Ron, dead.
Soon after the bodies were found, the police started looking for OJ Simpson, father of Nicole s
children and former husband to Nicole. Around 11 p.m., a limousine driver named Allan Park, was
buzzing Simpsons intercom trying to get ahold of him so he could take Simpson to LAX for a flight he
would soon be late for. Simpson eventually comes out and tells Park that he overslept. Park drops him

  • 2. Major Themes In The Fifth Wave By Rick Yancey The Fifth Wave Theme Essay The author of the The 5th Wave, Rick Yancey, had several prominent themes. Three were most vital; first, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, second, people are defined by the choices they make, and third, family is worth living for. These are the best and most important motifs of The 5th Wave. The first theme, war cannot change who a person really is at their core, recurs during several incidences which reinstates the significance. For example, Ben tries to make Ringer smile despite being in the midst of the end of the world. When Cassie and Sammy reunite, he goes back to his five year old self despite his being in boot camp for months prior, and lastly, Cassie and Evan flirt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, Cassie had little to no human contact before she was shot in the leg and saved by Evan Walker but she still did not hesitate to kiss him, cuddle, fight, or anything that a normal couple would do. After fighting with each other, Evan Walker kisses me. Holding my hand against his chest, his other hand sliding across my neck... Despite Cassie being shot in the leg by an unknown shooter, aliens trying to take over the Earth, her brother being taken, and her family being dead, she is still a teenage girl who enjoys male interaction. An additional theme heavily shown throughout the book is people are defined by the choices they make . Ben left his little sister, Sissy, to die, even though he could have made an effort to save her; because he left her, he now vows not to run from danger or those things which scare him. Furthermore, Cassie promises Sammy that she will find him and, because she makes that promise, she will stop at nothing to be with him again. At the beginning of the arrival, Ben and his family stayed at their house. One night, there are gunshots and screams heard coming from their neighbors house; Ben s mother demands them to blow out the candles which lit the rooms and his father told Ben that If anything happens to me, take care of your mother and baby sister, (Page 117). After that, the door crashes open and Ben s father shoots the male intruder to no avail his father is then shot in the face and Ben ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Haunted Palace By Edgar Allan Poe Literary Devices The poem The Haunted Palace by Edgar Allan Poe is an electrifying piece that tells the readers about a beautiful palace with a happy king who existed some long ago, though he later falls to ruin. The poem uses an image of a decaying haunted mansion, which remains as a calling metaphor for insanity. The piece, which is written in a ballad form, begins with a vivid description of an awesome palace that stood in a green valley. The speaker talks about the yellow banners and states that the travelers passing through the valley could see through the windows of the palace and admired its beauty. • 7. Taking a Look at Social Engineering Social engineering is a method of hacking in which attackers utilize personal or not so personal information to impersonate the rightful owner of an account. They call up the company in question and engineer a reset of the account permissions that allow them to take over. The idea is to trick a company s employee into revealing passwords or critical information that may be used to compromise security. Phishing is a criminal activity using different variations of social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information ( passwords, credit card info) by posing as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out using email or an IM (instant message) although phone contact has known to also have been used . The damage caused by phishing ranges from loss of access to email and to substantial financial loss. This style of identity theft is becoming more popular, because of the ease with which unsuspecting people often divulge personal information to phishers (credit card numbers, social security numbers, and mothers maiden names). Once this information is acquired, the phishers may use a person s details to create fake accounts in a victim s name and ruin a victim s credit, or even prevent victims from accessing their own accounts. • 8. Dash Cams And The Law Enforcement In today s society we see more and more advancement of technology. Anything and everything that we want or need can be accessed just by the touch of a button. Law enforcement has stepped up to plate with implementing the use of dashboard cameras as well as body cameras as means to provide clarity to traffic stops and criminal acts. Within the past few years there has been a rising amount of claims of police brutality which in turn have led to many riots in different states across the United States. There has also been a significant amount of crimes committed against law enforcement as well. In a profession where it often comes down to two very different versions of the same event, dash cams have proven a useful tool. In some ways, a law enforcement officer who can serve an entire career without facing some sort of civil liability is an anomaly. More and more, patrol men and women are finding themselves the target of disgruntled citizens. This usually results in complaints to the agency and/or a lawsuit. (Nash Scarberry, 2014) Dashboard cameras have been around for some time now with body cameras being introduced in as well to help verify what has taken place on certain events throughout traffic stops. There is no longer just a he said/she said side of the story. Live footage is being received and viewed in order to not only record the stop but to aid in training purposes for law enforcement. This manifesto, originally called the Verchimelungsmaifest gegen den Rationalismus in der Architektur , has been presented during a recitation in the Abbey of Seckau, in Austria, on the 4th of July 1958, by his author Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser (Friedrich Stowasser; born 15 December 1928 in Vienna) was an Austrian visionary architect, artist and spiritual ecologist, founder of the Transautomatism theory and style. He believed that he was at the vanguard of the Avant guard, transcending the automatism of the Tachism and the Informalism, reaching this way an ultimate unsurpassable point, from which all improvements and efforts can be inspected and organized as a meaningful whole. He often referred to himself as the architecture doctor, redesigning functional and industrial building into art pieces. Abstract This paper deals with the idea that everyone should have freedom in architecture, the same freedom that everyone has in painting and sculpture: to produce any kind of work and afterwards exhibit it. This freedom can only be achieved if we let everyone build his own dwellings and be the architect bricklayer occupant of the building, as this is the only way for the man to regain his critical creative function, without which he cannot exist as a human being. The author compares people living in buildings built following functional architecture rules, to animals living in cages, all equally foreign to the nature of the cage . Straight lines are ... Debating US Power , is chiefly that: the United States of America is an empire, and that current beliefs to the contrary are the result of denialism due to negative connotations associated with the concept of empire, not due to a lack of suitability of that term to describe the current state of American foreign policy. The first issue which Cox raises is that of a lack of understanding of and study into the concept of empire by current research in the field of international relations (Cox 2004, p230). His argument becomes unconvincing when it becomes clear that Cox is playing the role of both legislature and judiciary, crafting the terms to meet his needs and then applying them. As with any argument though concerning matters of perspective, both our own status as outsiders, and that of Cox, being himself British born (FORA.tv 2007), lead credence to Cox s assertion of an American empire, himself asserting the supposed obviousness of his thesis to anyone outside of the USA. Recognising and accounting for this though, the evidence offered about the many non standard forms of empire are still sound. Fisher (1984) highlights the success of British incorporation of local political structures into its empire, and Cox s contention that American promotion of seemingly anti imperial ideas of democracy and self determination are not in contradiction to its presiding over an empire are sound on examination of the underlying elements. The third cultural difference is masculinity. Masculinity is defined by Hofstede as a trait, which emphasizes ambition, acquisition of wealth and differentiated gender roles. (Tidwell, n.d) A society that is focused on money and success is said to be high in masculinity. The United States is an example of an area that is high in this dimension. For example, when the Disney company decided on opening a park in France they didn t even take into consideration how the French would react or what type of impact this could have on the their culture. Being that they have the masculine characteristics they were more concerned about wanting to prevail on others. The fourth cultural difference is individualism. According to Hofstede individualism is defined as the tendency of the people to mainly look after themselves and their immediate family. • 24. Essay on William Shakespeare s 18th and 55th Sonnets William Shakespeare s 18th and 55th Sonnets Both William Shakespeare s 18th and 55th sonnet s are full and complete examples of poetry at its best, and, while studying Shakespeare s form is very important, it is equally so to look at the content and even further deep to its true meanings. His techniques which have immortalized him over several centuries are displayed at their best while still capturing his goal of honoring his lover. Although the two poems were written separately, the shared theme is evident and they almost seem to flow together. In the 18th sonnet, Shakespeare begins by comparing his lover to a summer s day, which may be seen as a high compliment. Upon reading further, you find that not even the sun and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the previous lines, he expressed the link of future lovers to the life of his own. He speaks of broken marble, neglected tombs, war, fire, and the greatest challenge, time, but, through it all, his love will live on in the eyes of the future. In his elaborate comparisons, Shakespeare uses extensive imagery along with personification and analogies from the very beginning of the 18th sonnet where he characterizes the admired one as a summer s day. His descriptions of besmeared tombs and the fiery wars described in the 55th pull the reader in and force a vision of impending doom, only to be brought back out to a more serene feel by the ending lines describing eternal life and love. Things not usually mobile are brought to life by his personification, such as the sun and his golden complexion in the ever famous 18th sonnet. Even more moving is the characterization of death, made human and able to do such things as brag and consume one in his looming shade. The wind is given the power to blow itself and shake the darling buds of May while in the 55th Shakespeare declares mortal men unable to outlive this powerful rhyme, making it nearly god like. The mysterious lover discussed so often in his works brings them the writing to life and fills us with questions as to who this powerful figure in William Shakespeare s life could have been. One ... • 25. Analysis Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption In Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption the prison acts as a microcosm reflecting the structures of the capitalist society to what extent do you agree with this view? One critic named Terry Eagleton, stated It is capitalism, not Marxism that trades in futures. This quote alone suggests the extent of what capitalism is to some Marxist critiques and this one is suggesting that the future is traded upon capitalism which relates to King s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption as the prison system does determine the future of inmates yet inside the prison there is a capitalist structure. I will look at a plethora of characters in the novella and explore how their roles in the prison are used to reflect capitalist society: Andy a bourgeoisie socially but a proletariat politically, Red who goes under the system whom also, serves the proletariat even though he is one himself and the warden that uses his role as the bourgeoisie for corruption and power over the inmates. Despite the inmates being in a confined space and managed by the outside world. It could be argued that the Shawshank prison is formulating a society of their own. Kings use of the character, Andy, is vague. As it could be argued that his role changes throughout the novella. It could be said that there are many interpretations to where Andy s character develops as he can be measured by his political and social class as we see done by the prisoners and the wider society. Reiman wrote a book titled the rich get richer and the poor get prison this pragmatically shows that those who are poor go to prison. However, this is not the case with Andy due to the fact before he was in prison he was a successful banker so in fact he was not poor, opposing the view, that Reiman is signifying. Somewhat suggesting that King is stating that society could have an impact on any group of people regardless of what the backgrounds are or the backgrounds of the individual. Andy was a banker before he came to the Shawshank prison. In some lens he would be perceived as a bourgeoisie because of the class that would have been in. However, from a political lens it would be evident that Andy could be a proletariat for the ranks of the company that he had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Social Communication And Human Characteristics Of Social... It is extremely important to understand the traits of social media and the human factors impacting technology because if we did not, there would be a lot more miscommunications and misunderstandings between people. For example, social media users need to understand that social media communication is limited compared to face to face communication. Factors such as Temporal Structure, which is the time it takes to send and receive a message, affect how effective social media communication is. Also, Asynchronous communication, which is communication that occurs when participants are not co present, could cause communication problems because the people who are communicating might not be as involved in a conversation. Tone and other signs that people give off to relay emotions and messages are not present in many social communication forms as well. There are three key steps in the Perception Process. The first is to Observe someone s behavior and determine what the behavior means. The second is to describe the behavior to the person objectively. It is important to not show any approval or disapproval to their actions in this step. Next, you explain your personal perception of the behavior. This step is very important because you let the person know how YOU feel, and this will allow them to respond to your feelings accordingly. It is also important to be ready to change or alter your perception based on the person s reaction to your perception checking process. Automatic social cognition or perception means that someone is arriving to conclusions about situations, people, or themselves, without much conscious awareness or intention on what the future effects might be. On the other hand, conscious or controlled cognition means that someone is stopping to think about something intentionally, because they realise that their thoughts can affect what happens in a situation. This means that automatic social cognition is always happening and can lead to someone making decisions and judgements that are not very thought out or reasonable. One time I made the automatic and unconscious assumption that someone was weird just because they watched Japanese cartoons, I told my friend and this ended up spreading to the person I was ... NASA could have gotten more of the people involved in the changes. I find that by getting people involved and having some key people or champions to support the change, there is less resistance. People want to feel involved and a part of decisions, especially if it impacts them directly. It can be interesting because it is curious to question whether or not some species can be similar or different even if they live in different habitat. Therefore, this persuaded me to go deeper in figuring out if there is a relationship between different species that are raised and born in different habitat. This lead me to the question: If investigating the DNA sequence variation of different ants, will there be a significant different in the population of the ants being found in different areas? Therefore, the supernatant had to be removed carefully so that none of the pellet DNA was removed along with it. When going through this experiment, three different trials were performed because put in the spectrophotometer, the DNA of the ants were not picking up in the files. Carpenter ants were used at first, then gall wasps were used and last we went back and used carpenter ants and red fire ants. The hackers encrypted the whole SQL database, about 6500 files, by going through and searching for every doc, xls, txt, pdf, mdb, mdf i.e. all of the standard data files. Quite apart from deliberately exploiting a vulnerable flaw in the medical practice s IT security, they made sure the ransom they demanded was not ridiculously high to maximise the chances of the victim s likelihood to pay. They chose a medical practice probably because they thought doctors had money and a compelling motive to pay the ransom. Fortunately the owners had a partial back up of the data and while they didn t recover completely they were eventually able to get back to business but only after a very long time. • 41. Compare And Contrast The New England And Massachusetts... Although the New England and Chesapeake colonies were settled by people of English origin, by 1700 they were two distinct societies. What accounts for these differences? Basically, the motives, the geography and the values of the people in the colonies were combined to form two very separate societies in Massachusetts and Virginia. Of course both societies contain settlers from Britain. However, the motives and the values in each society were drastically different from each other. Most people who went to Massachusetts have done so because they hope to create an utopia for their religious beliefs. Most people to Virginia, look for economic opportunity in many different ways. People who have gone to Virginia were seeking economic opportunity. Some were there to look for gold, but others came to work as indentured servants for a few years. Additionally, there were people sent to serve as wives for the men already there. In return for their service as servants, they should have acquired passage to America, shelter, food, and clothes (Indenture Agreement Between Richard Smyth and Margaret Williams, 1659). • 43. Essay about Renting Versus Buying Buying a home can be an exciting experience for anyone. However, in some cases you just might be better off continuing to rent your home. There are many advantages to buying a home. However, it is not for everyone and buying varies from individual to individual. Currently more people are leaning towards renting but this could change in the near future. When someone makes the decision to buy or rent a home they must consider the advantages and disadvantages of each. In buying a home the primary advantage is that you actually own it. You can do whatever you want with it. Also, you are building equity as the years go by. People today have problems saving for their future (CNN Money, 2014). However, when they buy a home, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You might be better off paying a reasonable amount for rent and saving your money when buying seems more logical. Also, it depends on lifestyle preferences. Some people may not want to do all the work that comes along with owning a home. As of right now many people are leaning towards renting. This is because the market is going down. Some don t want to commit to a mortgage if when they go to sell they can t find any buyers. It is likely that the renting trend will decline and buying will increase in the future but it is hard to say when. However, if rent keeps rising and prices keep falling, fearful buyers could slowly become bargain hunters. (Business Week, 2014). I feel that people will eventually get tired of spending there money on rent and will want to invest more in there future. I don t think that the real estate market will ever be a boom again. I believe that people have learned that just because interest rates are low doesn t mean they can financially take on a mortgage. Overall, buying a house is a big decision and should be looked at carefully. You should look at the advantages and disadvantages of each and decide what is best for you in your life. There is no way to pin point if buying or renting is best for anyone. Currently many prefer to rent their homes. However, as rent rise, a majority may soon change their minds. ... Hall | | Liberty University | 1/18/2015 | | Summary Since 1985 there has been a tremendous increase in research regarding intrapersonal forgiveness, but very little regarding self forgiveness. The purpose of this article was to bring attention to the topic of self forgiveness within this growing body of research. The definitions of self forgiveness from many disciplines were reviewed along with what features of self forgiveness differ from those of intrapersonal forgiveness emphasizing the need for an increase in empirical research on the subject matter. The simple act of defining self forgiveness in a way that is applicable across disciplines provides counselor and researchers a better starting point when approaching the topic of self forgiveness. One concept I found very interesting was the distinction between true self forgiveness and pseudo self forgiveness. It is intuitive for me to believe that it is not possible for pseudo self forgiveness to have the same effect as true self forgiveness, but with out research on the matter how can one be sure. When I read that the test for self forgiveness cannot differentiate between the two, it made me wonder if it is difficult for a person or a counselor to know the difference. It also made me wonder if it is possible that simply believing that things are better can actually make someone feel better. I also found the question regarding the appropriateness of self forgiveness to be interesting. When a person believes something is their fault that is not, what approach should a counselor take? Is it more appropriate to spend the time and effort on developing the skills to know what happened was not the client s fault, or is it more appropriate to provide the skills that will allow the person to forgive his or herself for what they believed they caused to happen? While this would have to be considered on a case by case basis, as a counselor it would be helpful to have more research on the topic that results in guidance on how to approach these types of ... Newton attended the King s School at Grantham at the age of twelve but was brought home by his mother at nearly the age of sixteen to manage the estate. This discovery enabled him to find the area under almost any algebraic curve in mathematics and became known as the fundamental theorem of calculus (Westfall 42). Newton s book, Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica, often called Principia for short, was completed by April 1686 and is one of the greatest pieces of scientific literature ever written. Much credit is deserved to Edmond Halley as his initial visit to Cambridge in the fall of 1684 reminded Newton of the work that needed to be completed regarding celestial mechanics. This visit prompted the writing of De motu and quickly lead to the writing of Principia (Cropper 30). Although a groundbreaking piece of literature, the Principia is one of the most incomprehensible books ever written. In about 500 pages and 340 complicated diagrams, Newton proves his arguments with the use of formally presented propositions with demonstrations. To understand the arguments explained in the book, the reader must comprehend each proposition in sequence (Cropper 31). Another problem that renders the Principia very difficult for the modern reader is that Newton chose to write the book in ancient geometrical style. This style was preferred by Newton not only because it represented the language of the ancients, but also because the fluxion language (calculus) he developed had not yet been published. Nuclear weapons don t explode on impact, they detonate in the air hence, mushroom clouds are created. The mushroom cloud is the radioactive particles from the bomb. The obvious answer to fix nuclear weapons is to get rid of them all but we all know that is unlikely. The United States wouldn t even bare the idea of getting rid of their nuclear capabilities. The United States may have had 27,519 warheads in 1975, but today that s down to an estimated 4,480 (Szondy). Neither are some other countries because they are a defense mechanism as well.
