The 1815 Eruption of Mount Tambora
Mount Tambora, located on the Island of Sumbawa, Indonesia is classified as a Stratovolcano. Also
known as a composite volcano, Tambora is a tall conical volcano (cone like structure) where layers of
the walls are built by hardened lava and volcanic ash. The term composite is used to describe the
volcano due to the composite layered structure built from sequential outpourings of eruptive
materials1. Among the most common types of volcanoes, Tambora also shares its destructive prowess
with best known volcanoes such as Krakota (1883) and Vesuvius (79 A.D). The Island of Sumbawa is
located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain (a group of islands in the southern Maritime
Southeast Asia) and is in the province of West Nusa Tenggara3. ... Show more content on

Understanding the eruptive history of Tambora can provide crucial information needed to detect and
prepare for future events. Furthermore, it is important to test current understanding of plate tectonics
to ensure scientists are adequately prepared to predict where future volcanoes may occur, using past
volcanoes like Tambora as a model. 2.0 Plate Tectonics of Indonesia Indonesia is situated between two
tectonically active plates: Australian and Eurasian plate. It is important to understand the amount of
fault motion between these plates, as it is the major source of influence regarding eruptions in the
region. The result of these tectonically active plates is the creation of the Circum Pacific belt (termed
the Pacific Ring of Fire) and the Alpide Belt. Figure 3 provides a pictorial view of both plates and
their relation to the Circum Pacific belt. The Circum Pacific belt is the world s greatest earthquake
belt, with a series of fault lines stretching 25,00 miles7. An unfortunate circumstance for the
inhabitants of Indonesia who are situated between these two belts, the eruptions of earthquakes and
volcanoes are far too common. Essentially, volcanoes erupt either due to divergent tectonic plates
pulling apart causing an eruption, or convergent tectonic plates coming together (forming great
pressure) causing an eruption8. In the case of Indonesia and the Circum Pacific belt, the latter is more
common. Because Indonesia and

Dramatic Justice In Tartuffe By Myrna Zwillenberg
Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s article Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe examines the all powerful king s
theatrical resolution of the story of Tartuffe . Zwillenberg writes It is so unexpected as to cast doubt
upon the dramatic coherence of the entire comedy (583). Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex
machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the
comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan
Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics
and comedy.
Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. Zwillenberg writes
Dramatic justice... would seem to necessitate the punishment of Orgon and the hypocrite (584)
Mariane is unfairly given to marry Tartuffe. Tartuffe seemingly hypnotizes Orgon, and subsequently
runs away with many of his possessions, including the deed to his house. Both of these actions,
Zwillenberg argues, upset the equilibrium of the story. As with any story, ... Show more content on

Punishing Tartuffe by different means Zwellenberg writes such as judgement by the family... would
have still left unsolved the matter of Orgon s complicity (588) Zwillenberg notes that Orgon was as
complicit in the creation of Tartuffe as Tartuffe himself, thus he is as deserving a punishment as the
hypocrite. If Orgon s family were to triumph in judgement over Tartuffe, there are no consequences
for Orgon s unjust actions towards his family. Likewise, Tartuffe must be put into his place to bring
the story back into equilibrium (584). The king s grand entrance into the story satisfies both of these
requirements, Zwillenberg argues, by humbling Orgon and punishing Tartuffe in one smooth

The Reduction Of The Anxiety
The present document displays the several factors towards the reduction of the anxiety episodes
diagnosed in the Emergency Department (ED). Hence, the design of the PICOT question resulted after
the observation of the frequent visits of individuals (with different comorbidities) complaining of
anxiety symptoms and not being addressed during the medical assessments and directed by nursing
interventions towards an action focused in the assessment, measurement and provide the best direction
of care of the real anxiety diagnosed cases, and educate, control and prevent the amount of visits with
the mentioned cause of attention in the Emergency Department.
In a first attempt, the anxiety and mood disorders were researched in databases to ... Show more

Moreover, the findings help to understand the positive benefits of exercise on voluntary participants,
and the exertion of biochemical signal control to reduce anxiety like reactions.
In a third study selected to include its findings to enrich the knowledge of the research topic, includes
a systematic review of 12 randomized clinical trials ( exercise and non exercise control groups), where
adults diagnosed with high levels of anxiety and other psychiatric syndromes demonstrated less stress
and anxiety symptoms during their inclusion in a physical activity program, reporting improved
overall health in all the participants and reduction of the anxiety episodes in psychiatric patients
(Stonerock,2015). The nursing practice is directed to provide qualified and safe care, and remarkable
is the fact that the skills and abilities of the nurses have their foundational basis in strong scientific
knowledge as a standard for the purposes of care of the patients. Nurses are committed to the best care
and responding to the challenges of the actual healthcare system, Nurses are increasingly engaged in
evidence based practice (EBP) processes to answer significant questions and guide nursing practice
(Lee, 2013).
The PICOT question is designed to analyze the population attended in the ED (18 to 55 years old),
with a diagnosis of anxiety and evaluate if the care required is repeated by the same condition, what
are the measures applied to educate and control the anxiety episodes.

Essay on Whispering in the Giants Ear by William Powers
Williams Powers, an ecotourist activist wrote in his book, Whispering in the Giants Ear, That which
we allow to exist, to flourish freely according to its own rhythms, is superior to anything our little
hands create. Ecotourism is defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the
environment and improves the well being of local people.
Economical Impact Ecotourism plays a vital role in a nations economy. Many factors entail whether a
country can be successful economically. Ecotourism has thrived and failed, depending on how it was
operated. Once a country accepts money from their government to begin ecotourism, they will be
forever in debt. When the governments fronts the money, the government is in control. ... Show more

This was concerning to the government, but unlike the Philippines, the Costa Rican government
agreed with the locals to invest and trust in ecotourism for a decade. After nine years, in 1973, Costa
Rica had broke even. In 1974 they made over ten million. Ever since 1974, profits had come in
exponentially. From 1974 to 1994 over six hundred million was brought in. In 1999 for the first time
in Costa Rican history over one million ecotourists came to Costa Rica. They brought in over one
billion in revenue. Many speculate that the Philippines were on the same track, but the lack of
communication between the government and people proved catastrophic. Costa Rica is known as the
focal point for ecotourism worldwide.
Ecotourism began in Costa Rica in the 1970 s. It was very small and began to grow exponentially in
the late 1980 s. In 1970 Costa Rica had a GNP, gross national product of 1000 million in 1995 that
number nonuple to 9000 million. Many consider 1978 the first year ecotourism began in Costa Rica.
At that time, Costa Rica had a GNP/capita of 1500. After the ecotourism boom, the number ballooned
to 2000 in 1992. It is evident by the 33% increase in GNP/capita that ecotourism was a positive
influence economically on Costa Rica. Another key problem is that the economic benefit of
ecotourism does not always reach the local community. One of ecotourisms main goals is to help the
local community generate domestic employment and

Argumentative Essay On Social Media Addiction
Social Media has become a plague in our world today, it s like a disease that is spread around very
quickly, and super fast. For example, some old family members of mine, who I would have never
expected to use social media are now using it, and they have become very good at using it, their black
belts of social media if you will. They heard young people talking about it, so it made them wonder if
teenagers are excited about this whole new trend might as well give it a shot, and see how well we do
with it ourselves. But what they don t know is that social media is good for us for some good reason
like keeping up with far relatives, keeping up with the news, and what s going around the world but

Facebook jealousy is bad, for that it causes so many problems and arguments with your partner which
in term can lead us to even consider cheating.
Cheating is another negative implication from using too much Facebook. By using Facebook in a
unhealthy matter it increases the chance of someone cheating, it definitely increases the odds of a
couple to cheat on each other, because Facebook has a private message feature allowing anybody to
send a message where just the two people are the only ones that can read and see the messages. To
some extent if the person doesn t want their partner to find out they re cheating, they will even create a
fake profile to reach out to the person. A great example of this is one of my uncles actually cheated on
his girlfriend using the same tactic I talked about. He used the private message feature which allowed
him to keep his affair a secret from his girlfriend. While his girlfriend thought he was at work, he was
actually cheating on another girl.
Low self esteem is another negative implication, that can happen to us for using Facebook for such a
long time! By using Facebook too much our self esteem will drop, because we ll always be thinking
about what other s think about our profile, posts, updates, and also being concerned about having the
perfect life, and getting likes. There are so many great examples of this, but one that always comes to
mind is the tv show Catfish. Mostly all of the time the person

Gang Violence in Society Essay
What Should Be Done About Gang Violence In Society?
Many people in our society do not think that anything bad will ever happen to them. These people
always hear about the issues and problems that are in the world today, but never think they will take
place close to home. Gang violence is a major problem in our society today that takes place in many
different areas of the world. If nothing is done soon, gang violence could take place in our
neighborhoods. Gang violence is a big problem in our society today. MW Klein, a gang researcher,

Movies can have a negative effect on youth (Synder). Movies and other media may serve as control
systems for the working through of psychological and social conflicts. Many of the youthful audiences
may experience and carry out their inner conflicts, desires, and fears, within the managed forms of the
motion picture (Synder). Robert K. Ressler, a criminologist, explains that some families act as if they
are in another world and their behaviors unfold independent of the quality of neighborhoods, poverty,
class, relations, crime, or any other factor. Poor family socialization is the final cause of criminality
(Singer). Gangs are a visual symbol of deprived families. They tend to grow in isolation from the
surrounding social world (Singer).John J. Dilulio Jr., a criminologist, states that social factors range
from family life to economic issues, program funding, and cultural changes (Hutson). A problem that
is usually associated with gangs is the use of drugs. Anglin Hutson of Nation s Cities Weekly, stated
that drug, gang connection is often cited, but many researchers believe this activity is overstated. Most
street gangs are not efficient or sophisticated drug distributions (Klein). Klein goes on to say that
members of gangs are normally arrested for crimes such as burglary, assault, fighting, vandalism,
homicide, and extortion. There has been a link from recent evidence between inner city gang members
and drug traffic, states Professor Dr.

Early Years Foundation Stage
The early year s foundation stage has been in place since September 2008.Early years foundation
stage is a play based curriculum for children from birth to five years which allow them to explore their
learning and development through play.
The five weeks continuous provision plan targeted a group of 8 children in the early year s class
(reception class) and was built on the EYFS framework. The plan focused on the communication and
language prime areas of EYFS. It was also supported by theories by F Skimmer and Chomsky. The
reason this plan was focused on the communication and language areas of EYFS is the realization that
many early learners lack or have insufficient communication skills, in comparison to their ages. As a
result of the lack of or inappropriate language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under operant condition, practitioners should use continuous reinforcement and intermittent

the principles of generative grammar and cognitive theory. These theories postulations are built on the

continuous provision plan was based is the assertion that knowledge and skills are obtained through
life s experiences, formal education and the practical application or understanding of a concept. Also,
learning involves practical as well as the theoretical understanding of topics and subjects.
Chomsky s theory of generative grammar emphasizes the importance of taking and storing of
information, similar to the premise of the current continuous provision plan (Chomsky, 2000). In
Chomsky s theory of language and communication, to retain information and knowledge, there is need
for previously stored knowledge to which newly inserted knowledge and information s added and

Consumerism And Free Market Economy
In today s society, it is becoming increasingly impossible for one to be watching television, reading a
magazine, or watching a sporting event without being flooded with the images of commercialism.
Messages in our televisions and print sources that encourages us to buy are created by people who
uses their talent to speak to both our conscious and subconscious desires. The products that we buy,
the food that we consume, the clothes and shoes that we wear, and our everyday lives are influenced
by commercialism. Proponents for commercialism can argue that commercialism as essential in the
enhancement of capitalism and free market economy. It can also lead to innovation competition of
companies in meeting the needs of consumers. However, Commercialism can lead to an increase in
wasteful consumption or consumerism. It can also lead to the depletion of natural resources in trying
to meet the consumption needs of the people.
Although commercialism have it draw backs, it is not all bad; commercialism promotes capitalism and
free trade both of which are very essential in our American Society. Only by producing and selling
goods and services does capitalism work. Commercialism allows for the free flow of information
between producers and consumers about good and services, and as a result, consumers are having the
ability to make preferences about their purchasing choices. It can lead to more equal and a wider
distribution of goods and services from which people can choose from.

World War Two Poem Annotated
Just by reading the title, we know that this poem is about World War II. The first stanza talks about
high school kids training for war. Hall is comparing a school sport to fighting in the war which, to me,
is a bit of an exaggeration. You are not very likely to get badly hurt playing a sport and, if you do, you
can usually come back from it fairly well. In war, it is extremely easy to become injured, and most war
injuries can cause you to lose your life. We see an example of this in Stanza II when Dom dies in
battle. During WWII, the military drafted young men to fight in the war. Dom was just a kid, sent off
to fight in the war, and died not even a year after being one of the high schoolers playing sports. His

Comparing Women In Things Fall Apart And Heart Of Darkness
For most of human history, women have been unjustly subjugated by their male counterparts. Before
the women s rights movements of the twentieth century, many authors around the world intentionally
wrote women as one dimensional and unimportant. This can be seen in modernist novelas like Joseph
Conrad s Heart of Darkness where women are seen as an afterthought to the main character Marlow.
This sentiment greatly changed in the 20th century when women fought to alter the public s
perception of femininity. This shift can also be seen in post imperialist works of Chinua Achebe in his
novel Things Fall Apart where, even though it is set in the same time period as Heart of Darkness, the
female characters are more flushed out and realistic in their behaviors. The authors of both novels
illustrate the power men have over women during the colonial era; however, Heart of Darkness
portrays women as shallow objects for the men to use while Things Fall Apart, despite the sexist
culture of Umuofia, presents the women as complex and human. Despite being subjects of a female
monarch, Queen Victoria, the men of Heart of Darkness undermine the strength and abilities of
women. When Marlow is unable to get to the Congo on his own accord, he is forced to seek help from
the women in his life. He is besides himself stating could you believe it? I tried the women. I, Charlie
Marlow, set the women to work to get a job. Heavens! Well, you see, the notion drove me. I had an

The Culture Of Popular Culture
Studying popular culture reveals the culture of society at the time. Further, popular culture reveals the
underlying belief, power structures, and philosophical and moral frame of the society that produces
those cultural products. Studying popular culture gives us an accessible vehicle through which to
explore philosophical and moral questions, as well as the functioning of society on a smaller scale (fan
based, consumption), through which we can make larger assumptions. Studies of popular culture may
be broad based or very specific, depending on who is conducting the studies. Popular culture includes
cultural artifacts, such as books, films, music genre, as well as how the culture is being marketed and
the market that is being targeted.
One such popular culture was riot grrrl... which occurred during the early 90s. The main objective of
this movement was to make feminism cool again and to get more young girls involved. Riott Grrrl

Essay on Monstrosity
Mary Shelley made her reputation of being one of the best Romantic authors on the basis of just one
book. The notoriety that came with being the daughter of two famous authors helped, as did her age at
the time of conceiving the book, but Frankenstein was the only one of her stories to achieve any fame.
The level of fame it achieved, however, was astounding. In fact, even though it was originally
published in 1818, Alasdair Gray still saw fit to use Frankenstein as his primary inspiration for Poor
Things in 1992. The Gothic Romantic nature of both of these books is well known, but the
monstrosity contained within them is an interesting topic to examine.

The story grows from this inception to the somewhat vague description of Victor s creation. Shelley,
through Victor, through Walton, explains the manner in which Victor prowled graveyards and such to
compile body parts, much like Shelley used disjointed segments of individual observations to compile
her story. Then, she delves into a birth. The animation of his project scares Victor so much, that he
immediately abandons the creation, only to later see the monster in his room, reaching for Victor with
a grin. Victor ‘escapes, abandons his child again. The lack of parenting and guidance is remarkable,
no doubt inspired by Mary s own situation at the time. Then, as Victor wanders aimlessly, he
encounters his childhood best friend, Clerval. Clerval is one of the truly honest characters in the book,
though he also has problems with his father. He is Victor s true friend, one who will love him
regardless, though Victor is monstrous enough to miss that fact, and tells Clerval nothing of his
creation.
Shelley then introduces us to Justine Moritz, a maid at the Frankenstein s home, who was mistreated
by her mother before coming to work for them. Her love for the Frankenstein family is deep and pure.
This is why it is such a shock to find out that she is the primary suspect in the murder of Victor s
younger brother. The boy was strangled; a sign of rage and power issues, and a locket containing his
mothers picture was stolen.

Executive Summary
This report aims to analyze and attempt to reduce Logan airport s delay problem in the year 2000. The
airport was experiencing unacceptable numbers of delays due to three main problems: 1) Weather
conditions, 2) Mix of aircrafts, and 3) Overscheduling. Under normal weather, the three runway
configuration is sufficient to handle incoming and outgoing planes. However, the delay problem at
Logan is the most acute during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Overscheduling
Although overscheduling was not considered a problem at Logan Airport when the case was written, it
was proved to be a potential problem in the future as the number of passengers that use Logan Airport
increases. Since 90% of the flights started or ended there, the airport has little slack to recover from
delays because the flights arrived uniformly over each hour, unlike other airports with more staggered
schedule. In general, increasing the capacity of the airport can solve the flight delay problem at Logan
Airport.
In order to help Logan Airport reduce flight delays, four alternatives will be examined in the report: 1)
Regional solution, 2) New runway, 3) Peak period pricing (PPP), and 4) The combination of new
runway and PPP. Recommendations will be provided after analytical discussions of each alternative.
Assumptions and Facts
This report is based on several assumptions drawn from the facts outline in the Logan case. First, we
will assume that Logan airport operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Furthermore, it is
assumed that the processing system is a single phase service process, which means that each server

Argumentative Essay On Birth Control
Birth control. Most of the women in America have tried some type of birth control during their
lifetime. Currently, we are having debates to see if birth control should be free or at a lower cost to
citizens. Why do we need birth control if we already have condoms? Do we really have affordable
birth control? Can we get it easily? Does it do more than just prevent pregnancies? If birth control
really helping women and the economy? In this research paper, I will be going over these questions.
Birth control is a benefit to modern society and we have benefited from it greatly.
To get the ball rolling, we all know that taking birth control comes with a price, just like any other

Descriptive Essay On AAmethyst Night
AAmethyst Night It was late afternoon, a tuscan sunset Idyllwild ablaze as it neared dusk. With doors
exposing the symphony of music and chatter emanating from the common room, I stood admiring the
scene before me. Chloe, a light blonde haired girl with coral cheeks a year younger than me, peeked
her head into the room with pleading eyes which bore into my soul. Oh no this little freshman is a
little too happy, I m guessing its another boy in her jazz band. She was desperately begging me to
come with her on a walk to discuss someone at camp who she was fond of. I unenthusiastically replied
yes, forfeiting the opportunity to participate in activities with fellow campers. Struggling to move
from my comfortable place on the plushy couch, I told her I need to get my phone from my room.
Ok, hurry and get your stuff, I m going to be on the deck she laughing replied as she repressed a grin
of success. Grumbling as I grabbed my phone from my room and strolled back to the common room,
the door suddenly burst open, hitting the snowy peach walls with a resounding thud. That will leave a
mark. Before I can fully process who it might have been, out storms Chloe, with tear streaked cheeks
as well as eyes containing terror and confusion. Chasing after her, I frantically tried to think of rational
reasons for her to be in this state of distress. She was one to overreact but this seemed real. As I caught
up to where she sat down carrying a heavy heart, I knew she had experienced

Life Of My Life Essay
Everyone has someone that they look up to in life. 2.
Someone who is always there for them and who will not leave your side.
For me that person is my Father.
When trying to decide who to pick for this paper, he was the first one to come to mind, and after a
little thinking, I knew that was the right choice.
With a cornucopia of stories that I have close to me, I had to narrow them down to three.
I picked three that are most viable for me to use.
These stories come from different points in my life.
From the first story to the last, the years progressively go on.
Ever since I was young my family and I always took trips to the ocean.
We always would go to our favorite two locations, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Longboat Key
Island in Florida.
Being in love with marine animals from a small age, I was always counting down the days till I can go
to myrtle beach or florida.
One year in particular was the most memorable for me.
It was back in 2009 and my family and I were in myrtle beach.
My dad and I got up early one morning to go get bait for us to go fishing outside of our hotel.
That trip I caught many little fish but never a big one.
To be more specific, I wanted to catch a flounder.
I can still remember the cold air in the morning as we were driving to the store to get bait.
I think today is finally going to be the day Jake! my dad said.
I responded frustrated saying, I m not so sure about that.
This is our last day here and I haven t caught one yet.

Hurricane Rubin Carter Quotes
In the book Hurricane by James S. Hirsch, a quote that Hasson had stated knowledge, especially
knowledge of oneself, has in it the potential power to overcome all barriers. Wisdom is the Godfather
of it all (p76). The definition of this quote expresses the main character s life, Rubin Carter. When he
figures out that life isn t equitable he has to do something about it.
In my opinion, I think the significance of this quote is being able to know your knowledge and how to
overcome anything by using your strength. Throughout the book this relates to Rubin Carter, on how
his bad behavior has been when he was a child and also partly in his adult life. By slightly getting
knowledge, he is learning how to fight for his own fights, like he did during

An Analysis Of Tony RobbinsQuotes On Success
If you are on a path towards success, then you ve probably listened to Tony Robbins at one point or
another. Or, at the very least, you ve heard some of his quotes. There s no denying that he s very
successful in what he does which is helping other people be successful in all areas of their life. He is
known as the number one life and business strategist and he understands leadership psychology. The
biggest thing is that he has a knack for making things clear and easy to understand, which is one of the
many reasons why I wanted to do a Tony Robbins Success Quotes article.

And, they are not done yet!
Of course, being certain isn t always going to get you the results you want. If you are certain that you
are going to marry a superstar, for instance, and they are married and twenty years older than you,
then the chances of that happening are small. But, when it comes to improving your life, grabbing
hold of that conviction that you could achieve what you want to achieve is the key to helping you get
off your butt and doing things that help you move closer to it.
3. Trying To Believe Something You Don t?
When you go beyond the threshold that somebody believes, it s over, cause they check out and go I
can t do that , I won t do that , There s no way .
Tony Robbins was talking about this in a sports context, but it works for anything. If someone tells
you that you should perform 50% better, and you don t believe that you can, then you will check out.
You will find a way to get out of having to even try to perform 50% better. If you don t believe it, you
simply won t allow the idea into your head.
That s not good news if you want to improve your life and become more successful. You need to find
some crack in your belief system that allows you to see a potential for the outcome you want. The
good news is that we CAN change our beliefs. We are not doomed to believe something for the rest of

Be As You Are, By Mike Posner
In Mike Posner s song Be As You Are he shows the importance of individuality. As he sings about
being different, himself, he shows understanding of the pressures brought upon people who influence
individuality or are different. If your friends cannot stand you as yourself, it shows who they really
were and they wanted you for a different reason than you wanted. Even if nobody stands with you for
individuality, you will always be yourself and that s the best you that you can be. Hence, it is your
greatest achievement just to have individuality.
First and foremost, having belief in and having individuality can improve mood and emotion control.
With individuality and an increased mood, the path to ultimate happiness is revealed. In other words,

In similar terms, you won t have to care about fitting in or if you match and follow perfectly, because
it won t matter! As an illustration, in my third and last school, the one I m in now, I was too loud.
Now, two years since I came, I ve learned to control it more but it s not always easy. Sometimes, I slip
up but it s not uncommon for someone to slip up once, right? Anyways, I m not scared to be loud and I
have no insecurities about my voice or anything.
Although some believe following someone else is best, this is a fallacy. Individuality is best because
you know who you are. Don t care about what others think, it s what you think that matters the most.
Being free to care about yourself is better than caring about what others think and following them.
When everyone is gone the only one there is you. Who will control you then? You will control
yourself so it s best to do that from the start than to follow others for no reason.
In conclusion, individuality is best. With an increased mood, leadership, and decrease in insecurities,
individuality is better than following others just to hit a brick wall or have opposite and harmful
effects. Although following is easy; is it worth it? Having individuality brings in so many good things
to your life, and it can be

The Effect Of Heat Engines On Energy Essay
An engine is a device, which transforms one form of energy into another form. While transforming
energy from one form to another, the efficiency of conversion plays an important role. Normally, most
of the engines convert thermal energy into mechanical work and therefore they are called heat engines
. Heat engine is a device that transforms the chemical energy of a fuel into thermal energy and utilizes
this thermal energy to perform useful work. Thus, thermal energy is converted to mechanical energy in
a heat engine. Fuel economy of engines is greatly improved from the past and probably continued to
be improved, increased in number of automobiles alone dictate that there will be a great demand for
fuel in the near future. Alternative fuel technology, availability, and use must and will become more
common in the coming decades. However, the use of an alternative fuel decreases the break thermal
efficiency of engines, due to lower calorific values compared to normal petrol fuel. Also due to the
high cost of petroleum products, some countries are developing and trying to use alternative fuels for
vehicles. Internal combustion engines are established as the main power source for the automobile
vehicles. At present emission norms become strict for any IC engine. The main pollutants in SI engine
are CO, UBHC, NOx, etc. from which CO and UBHC are the most harmful component. Since
emissions are byproducts of the combustion process, the main body of petrol engine research is to

Analysis Of The Great Wave Off Kanagawa
The Great Wave off Kanagawa; the Wave that Swept the Western World
Almost instantaneously recognizable, The Great Wave off Kanagawa (woodblock, 10 1/8 x 14 15/16
in, c. 1830 32), created by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai in 1830, beautifully captures the
graceful, swelling movement of a crashing tsunami. Because of the way in which line and proportion
are utilized, this woodblock print gracefully portrays the sheer power of the ocean. Derived from the
Edo period in nineteenth century Japan, this classic was the first of a series of works from Hokusai
titled Thirty six views of Mount Fuji, all of which effortlessly depict the mountain in a wide array of
angles and scenery. Arguably, The Great Wave off Kanagawa is the most iconic and cherished piece of
Japanese artwork in the world. Even more importantly, Hokusai is considered a prominent father
figure for both Japanese art, as well as Western modernization as a whole. The Great Wave truly
displays how tiny and weak man is compared to the force of nature. Not only is The Great Wave a
quintessential piece of art, but it established a piece in the comprehensive networks of art, trade, and
politics, that has instilled a tremendous positive impact in the Western world. Created solely from the
vivid imagination of Hokusai, the primary compositional focus of this simple, but deceptively
dynamic print, is the massive deep blue and white wave located in the left foreground of the work. Its
detailed, curling white caps make it

Tony Kushner s Angels Of America
According to Tony Kushner in his dramatic play, Angels of America, Kushner uses angels and religion
to help develop the characters afflicted by it as well carry them through the entire play and reach some
sort of enlightenment. Spirituality is a big thing within Angels in America, and Angels are one of
them. Harper: When you look at the ozone layer, from outside, from a spaceship, it looks like a pale
blue halo [...]. It s a gift, from God, the crowning touch to the creation of the world: guardian angels,
hands linked [...] a shell of safety for life itself. (Kushner) To Harper, the Angel s are there to protect
and watch over us. Being raised Mormon, Harper sees things through a spiritual lens. The ozone is not
just a scientific fact but something that God gave to us as a gift, and the halo are not only gases but
angels. Yet, to Prior, they re a symbol of death. When Prior reveals his lesion he calls them, the wine
dark kiss of the angel of death (Kushner). It s a complete contrast to what Harper believes, it could be
that fact Prior is not religious or because of the circumstance Prior is in. In general, angels are so far
portrayed as protects and destroyers of mankind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the novel, Something Wicked This Way Comes, two boys named Jim Nightshade and Will

One common occurrence in this novel is the friendship between Will and Jim. Friendship is what kept
Jim, Will s best friend, alive. However, despite the obstacles they faced the carnival s presence, their

Captains Of Industry Essay
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, during the climax of the American Industrial Revolution, there was
a small group of men who owned the major businesses and were leaders of their industries. They
owned factories, railroads, banks, and even created company towns for the sole purpose of housing
their workers. Due to the efforts of these few men, the U.S. economy became the envy of the world,
and America became a leading world power. They provided the public with products that were in high
demand for reasonable prices, and opened their markets to countries overseas. Although many people

Although some of these criticisms are well founded, men like Andrew Carnegie and John D.
Rockefeller were, in fact, Captains of Industry because they employed millions and created new ways
of doing business. Before all these industrialists can along, America was just another country that had
little significance to the world. If it was not for them, we as a nation would not be where we are today.
The industrialists prospered mainly due to their wit, and the many innovations that they brought to
their various fields of business. They created monopolies because they were the most effective forms
of enterprise, and there were no laws that prohibited or restricted their use. As John D. Rockefeller
himself said, I believe in the spirit of combination and cooperation when properly conducted .It helps
to reduce waste, and waste is a dissipation of power. (Danzer 424) Critics say that these men ruthlessly
took over their fields of business, and did not play fair . What s wrong with striving for success? What
s wrong with being efficient? What s wrong with making a product that no one can equal? What s
wrong with besting your competitors? Nothing. The principal reason for the success of the
industrialists was their ability to provide products and services to the public at reasonable rates. This
was also the main reason that they were so despised and vilified by their competitors and the covetous

The text in the Qur an and in the Bible share many of the same stories and messages, but they also

messages he received from God were not written down at first, but it was Muhammad s duty to spread
the word received from God verbally to many people. The Qur an was later put into words during the

Common Propositional Argument Evaluation
On pages 164 175, we learn over the 8 common propositional argument evaluations. Every argument
must be valid in order to pass the Proper Form Test. In the cases of fallacies, not every premise will
support the conclusion making that argument invalid. The first argument we see is Denying the
Disjunct, which involves two statements, in two forms, which can be explained through four forms.
The first form is If S1 or S2, not S1, therefore S2 (pg. 164). The second form is If S1 or S2, Tf S1
(pg.164). This means that if the premise denies the disjunct, then the conclusion is false. We see this
form because a disjunct is when a premise denies the conclusion. The second argument we see is the
Fallacy of Affirming the inclusive Disjunct, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a disjunction is false, because of the alternatives presented then it is considered a false dichotomy.
(pg.168). We are now presented with Affirming the Antecedent, whose form is If S1, then S2, S1, tf,
S2 (Pg.170). This is shown because if the first statement affirms or supports the second statement,
then it affirms the antecedent. The statements do not contradict or deny each other. The next argument
we see is the Fallacy: Denying the antecedent, which is when premise is conditional, but it denies the
antecedent. The antecedent is the part of the statement we learned through facts of background
knowledge, but if S1 denies S2, then the argument as a whole is invalid (pg.172). Denying the
Consequent is not a fallacy, but it occurs when one premise is conditional, but it denies the
consequent. Because the consequent is denied, then we know that the conclusion is denied as well.
(pg.173). The form is If S1, then S2, not S2, therefore, not S1. (pg.173) We know this through the
proper form and true premise test, because the form indicates that it is invalid and the premises are
false, so it fails the true premise test. The last argument we see is Tri Conditional. This argument
differs from the other arguments, because we are now using three statements to confirm if the premise
are true. The form is If S1, then S2, If S2, then S3, therefore If S1,

Comedy And Social Ideas Of Norman Lear
Norman Lear was picked as a nominee for the prestigious Kennedy Center Award. Instead of
accepting the award, Lear decided to boycott the Kennedy Center ceremony in December at the White
House to protest Donald Trump presidency. Norman Lear has embodied the role as an agent of change
because throughout his life, he has been breaking societal norms and discussing issues in society that
people are afraid to talk about. Specifically, in 1971, a groundbreaking American television sitcom
broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American audience viewed
television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, fight for
women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through stereotypes and
entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its audience in a very
blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with contemporary cultural
issues in a relatable way, which allowed blue collar workers to learn about their current everyday
issues and concerns. Therefore, from declining his Kennedy Center Award because of his dislike for
the President to breaking the taboos of television in the 1970s, Norman Lear has remained a visible
changemaker in our society.
Lear fused comedy and serious social issues together. All in the Family became the center of national
debate between comedy and social issues. Norman Lear helped to introduce social realism, a
movement that

No man in our time aroused fear and hatred in the white man as did Malcolm, because in him the
white man sense an implacable foe who could not be had for any price a man unreservedly committed

that society. (Haley XXV)
Without a doubt Malcolm X was one of the most brilliantly moving speakers that has ever lived. His
strong voice and commanding presence paired with his wit and sheer intelligence brought a people to
their feet and struck fear in the hearts of a nation. Malcolm X excited and inspired a passive people to

Malcolm was not a black supremacist and was not racist towards whites. In his speech The Ballot or
the Bullet given on April 3, 1964 in Cleveland, OH, Malcolm explained, Now in speaking like this, it
doesn t mean that we re anti white, but it does mean we re anti exploitation, we re anti degradation, we
re anti oppression. And if the white man doesn t want us to be anti him, let him stop oppressing and
exploiting and degrading us.
Why would anyone feel comfortable living in a society integrated with the people who instilled in
them the belief that they were subpar and actually taught them to hate themselves?
Hardships can pull people apart, but Malcolm found that common factor that unified people to come
together. He made them realize that they all came from the same place and had the same struggles, and
that is what brought them together. The only thing that all blacks in America had in common was the
fact that none of their black ancestors originated in the United States. They had all been brought from

difficult to create a stable and successful future for themselves due to the fact that discrimination was

physical and intellectual hunger for the majority of his life. As a young boy, Wright s father deserts his

working in the kitchen of a white family. Being unfamiliar with the way white people live, Wright

angry¨ (Wright 19). This scene in the novel serves as a very significant turning point in Wright s
young mind, he is confronted with the reality that whites and blacks are blatantly segregated and are
entitled to completely different things. Going into Wright s later years he has found a solace in
literature, he constantly has a desire to read due to the fact that doing so satisfies his intellectual

to borrow books from the library. His desire to read became exceedingly prevalent, ¨it surged up again

  • 2. The 1815 Eruption of Mount Tambora Mount Tambora, located on the Island of Sumbawa, Indonesia is classified as a Stratovolcano. Also known as a composite volcano, Tambora is a tall conical volcano (cone like structure) where layers of the walls are built by hardened lava and volcanic ash. The term composite is used to describe the volcano due to the composite layered structure built from sequential outpourings of eruptive materials1. Among the most common types of volcanoes, Tambora also shares its destructive prowess with best known volcanoes such as Krakota (1883) and Vesuvius (79 A.D). The Island of Sumbawa is located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain (a group of islands in the southern Maritime Southeast Asia) and is in the province of West Nusa Tenggara3. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Understanding the eruptive history of Tambora can provide crucial information needed to detect and prepare for future events. Furthermore, it is important to test current understanding of plate tectonics to ensure scientists are adequately prepared to predict where future volcanoes may occur, using past volcanoes like Tambora as a model. 2.0 Plate Tectonics of Indonesia Indonesia is situated between two tectonically active plates: Australian and Eurasian plate. It is important to understand the amount of fault motion between these plates, as it is the major source of influence regarding eruptions in the region. The result of these tectonically active plates is the creation of the Circum Pacific belt (termed the Pacific Ring of Fire) and the Alpide Belt. Figure 3 provides a pictorial view of both plates and their relation to the Circum Pacific belt. The Circum Pacific belt is the world s greatest earthquake belt, with a series of fault lines stretching 25,00 miles7. An unfortunate circumstance for the inhabitants of Indonesia who are situated between these two belts, the eruptions of earthquakes and volcanoes are far too common. Essentially, volcanoes erupt either due to divergent tectonic plates pulling apart causing an eruption, or convergent tectonic plates coming together (forming great pressure) causing an eruption8. In the case of Indonesia and the Circum Pacific belt, the latter is more common. Because Indonesia and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dramatic Justice In Tartuffe By Myrna Zwillenberg Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s article Dramatic Justice in Tartuffe examines the all powerful king s theatrical resolution of the story of Tartuffe . Zwillenberg writes It is so unexpected as to cast doubt upon the dramatic coherence of the entire comedy (583). Zwillenberg concludes that the deus ex machina (583) ending not only brings closure to the stories of Orgon and Tartuffe, but also restores the comedic equilibrium that is upset by Tartuffe throughout the play. I agree in full with Myrna Kogan Zwillenberg s assertion that the conclusion to Tartuffe brings a fitting end to the play in both dramatics and comedy. Zwillenberg begins by examining the injustice of Tartuffe and Orgon s actions. Zwillenberg writes Dramatic justice... would seem to necessitate the punishment of Orgon and the hypocrite (584) Mariane is unfairly given to marry Tartuffe. Tartuffe seemingly hypnotizes Orgon, and subsequently runs away with many of his possessions, including the deed to his house. Both of these actions, Zwillenberg argues, upset the equilibrium of the story. As with any story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Punishing Tartuffe by different means Zwellenberg writes such as judgement by the family... would have still left unsolved the matter of Orgon s complicity (588) Zwillenberg notes that Orgon was as complicit in the creation of Tartuffe as Tartuffe himself, thus he is as deserving a punishment as the hypocrite. If Orgon s family were to triumph in judgement over Tartuffe, there are no consequences for Orgon s unjust actions towards his family. Likewise, Tartuffe must be put into his place to bring the story back into equilibrium (584). The king s grand entrance into the story satisfies both of these requirements, Zwillenberg argues, by humbling Orgon and punishing Tartuffe in one smooth ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hence, the design of the PICOT question resulted after the observation of the frequent visits of individuals (with different comorbidities) complaining of anxiety symptoms and not being addressed during the medical assessments and directed by nursing interventions towards an action focused in the assessment, measurement and provide the best direction of care of the real anxiety diagnosed cases, and educate, control and prevent the amount of visits with the mentioned cause of attention in the Emergency Department. Moreover, the findings help to understand the positive benefits of exercise on voluntary participants, and the exertion of biochemical signal control to reduce anxiety like reactions. In a third study selected to include its findings to enrich the knowledge of the research topic, includes a systematic review of 12 randomized clinical trials ( exercise and non exercise control groups), where adults diagnosed with high levels of anxiety and other psychiatric syndromes demonstrated less stress and anxiety symptoms during their inclusion in a physical activity program, reporting improved overall health in all the participants and reduction of the anxiety episodes in psychiatric patients (Stonerock,2015). The nursing practice is directed to provide qualified and safe care, and remarkable is the fact that the skills and abilities of the nurses have their foundational basis in strong scientific knowledge as a standard for the purposes of care of the patients. Nurses are committed to the best care and responding to the challenges of the actual healthcare system, Nurses are increasingly engaged in evidence based practice (EBP) processes to answer significant questions and guide nursing practice (Lee, 2013). The PICOT question is designed to analyze the population attended in the ED (18 to 55 years old), with a diagnosis of anxiety and evaluate if the care required is repeated by the same condition, what are the measures applied to educate and control the anxiety episodes. ... • 5. Essay on Whispering in the Giants Ear by William Powers Williams Powers, an ecotourist activist wrote in his book, Whispering in the Giants Ear, That which we allow to exist, to flourish freely according to its own rhythms, is superior to anything our little hands create. Ecotourism is defined as responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well being of local people. Economical Impact Ecotourism plays a vital role in a nations economy. Many factors entail whether a country can be successful economically. Ecotourism has thrived and failed, depending on how it was operated. Once a country accepts money from their government to begin ecotourism, they will be forever in debt. When the governments fronts the money, the government is in control. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was concerning to the government, but unlike the Philippines, the Costa Rican government agreed with the locals to invest and trust in ecotourism for a decade. After nine years, in 1973, Costa Rica had broke even. In 1974 they made over ten million. Ever since 1974, profits had come in exponentially. From 1974 to 1994 over six hundred million was brought in. In 1999 for the first time in Costa Rican history over one million ecotourists came to Costa Rica. They brought in over one billion in revenue. Many speculate that the Philippines were on the same track, but the lack of communication between the government and people proved catastrophic. Costa Rica is known as the focal point for ecotourism worldwide. Ecotourism began in Costa Rica in the 1970 s. It was very small and began to grow exponentially in the late 1980 s. In 1970 Costa Rica had a GNP, gross national product of 1000 million in 1995 that number nonuple to 9000 million. Many consider 1978 the first year ecotourism began in Costa Rica. At that time, Costa Rica had a GNP/capita of 1500. After the ecotourism boom, the number ballooned to 2000 in 1992. It is evident by the 33% increase in GNP/capita that ecotourism was a positive influence economically on Costa Rica. Another key problem is that the economic benefit of ecotourism does not always reach the local community. One of ecotourisms main goals is to help the local community generate domestic employment and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, some old family members of mine, who I would have never expected to use social media are now using it, and they have become very good at using it, their black belts of social media if you will. They heard young people talking about it, so it made them wonder if teenagers are excited about this whole new trend might as well give it a shot, and see how well we do with it ourselves. Cheating is another negative implication from using too much Facebook. By using Facebook in a unhealthy matter it increases the chance of someone cheating, it definitely increases the odds of a couple to cheat on each other, because Facebook has a private message feature allowing anybody to send a message where just the two people are the only ones that can read and see the messages. To some extent if the person doesn t want their partner to find out they re cheating, they will even create a fake profile to reach out to the person. A great example of this is one of my uncles actually cheated on his girlfriend using the same tactic I talked about. He used the private message feature which allowed him to keep his affair a secret from his girlfriend. While his girlfriend thought he was at work, he was actually cheating on another girl. Low self esteem is another negative implication, that can happen to us for using Facebook for such a long time! By using Facebook too much our self esteem will drop, because we ll always be thinking about what other s think about our profile, posts, updates, and also being concerned about having the perfect life, and getting likes. These people always hear about the issues and problems that are in the world today, but never think they will take place close to home. Gang violence is a major problem in our society today that takes place in many different areas of the world. If nothing is done soon, gang violence could take place in our neighborhoods. Movies and other media may serve as control systems for the working through of psychological and social conflicts. Many of the youthful audiences may experience and carry out their inner conflicts, desires, and fears, within the managed forms of the motion picture (Synder). Robert K. Ressler, a criminologist, explains that some families act as if they are in another world and their behaviors unfold independent of the quality of neighborhoods, poverty, class, relations, crime, or any other factor. Poor family socialization is the final cause of criminality (Singer). Gangs are a visual symbol of deprived families. They tend to grow in isolation from the surrounding social world (Singer).John J. Dilulio Jr., a criminologist, states that social factors range from family life to economic issues, program funding, and cultural changes (Hutson). A problem that is usually associated with gangs is the use of drugs. Anglin Hutson of Nation s Cities Weekly, stated that drug, gang connection is often cited, but many researchers believe this activity is overstated. Most street gangs are not efficient or sophisticated drug distributions (Klein). Klein goes on to say that members of gangs are normally arrested for crimes such as burglary, assault, fighting, vandalism, homicide, and extortion. Early Years Foundation Stage The early year s foundation stage has been in place since September 2008.Early years foundation stage is a play based curriculum for children from birth to five years which allow them to explore their learning and development through play. The five weeks continuous provision plan targeted a group of 8 children in the early year s class (reception class) and was built on the EYFS framework. The plan focused on the communication and language prime areas of EYFS. It was also supported by theories by F Skimmer and Chomsky. • 11. Consumerism And Free Market Economy In today s society, it is becoming increasingly impossible for one to be watching television, reading a magazine, or watching a sporting event without being flooded with the images of commercialism. Messages in our televisions and print sources that encourages us to buy are created by people who uses their talent to speak to both our conscious and subconscious desires. The products that we buy, the food that we consume, the clothes and shoes that we wear, and our everyday lives are influenced by commercialism. Proponents for commercialism can argue that commercialism as essential in the enhancement of capitalism and free market economy. It can also lead to innovation competition of companies in meeting the needs of consumers. However, Commercialism can lead to an increase in wasteful consumption or consumerism. It can also lead to the depletion of natural resources in trying to meet the consumption needs of the people. Although commercialism have it draw backs, it is not all bad; commercialism promotes capitalism and free trade both of which are very essential in our American Society. Only by producing and selling goods and services does capitalism work. Commercialism allows for the free flow of information between producers and consumers about good and services, and as a result, consumers are having the ability to make preferences about their purchasing choices. It can lead to more equal and a wider distribution of goods and services from which people can choose from. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hall is comparing a school sport to fighting in the war which, to me, is a bit of an exaggeration. You are not very likely to get badly hurt playing a sport and, if you do, you can usually come back from it fairly well. In war, it is extremely easy to become injured, and most war injuries can cause you to lose your life. We see an example of this in Stanza II when Dom dies in battle. • 14. Comparing Women In Things Fall Apart And Heart Of Darkness For most of human history, women have been unjustly subjugated by their male counterparts. Before the women s rights movements of the twentieth century, many authors around the world intentionally wrote women as one dimensional and unimportant. This can be seen in modernist novelas like Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness where women are seen as an afterthought to the main character Marlow. This sentiment greatly changed in the 20th century when women fought to alter the public s perception of femininity. This shift can also be seen in post imperialist works of Chinua Achebe in his novel Things Fall Apart where, even though it is set in the same time period as Heart of Darkness, the female characters are more flushed out and realistic in their behaviors. The authors of both novels illustrate the power men have over women during the colonial era; however, Heart of Darkness portrays women as shallow objects for the men to use while Things Fall Apart, despite the sexist culture of Umuofia, presents the women as complex and human. Despite being subjects of a female monarch, Queen Victoria, the men of Heart of Darkness undermine the strength and abilities of women. When Marlow is unable to get to the Congo on his own accord, he is forced to seek help from the women in his life. He is besides himself stating could you believe it? I tried the women. I, Charlie Marlow, set the women to work to get a job. Heavens! Well, you see, the notion drove me. I had an aunt, a dear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Further, popular culture reveals the underlying belief, power structures, and philosophical and moral frame of the society that produces those cultural products. Studying popular culture gives us an accessible vehicle through which to explore philosophical and moral questions, as well as the functioning of society on a smaller scale (fan based, consumption), through which we can make larger assumptions. Studies of popular culture may be broad based or very specific, depending on who is conducting the studies. • 19. Poor Things V. Frankenstein Andrew Klush Eng 101H Mr. Panza Essay on Monstrosity Mary Shelley made her reputation of being one of the best Romantic authors on the basis of just one book. The notoriety that came with being the daughter of two famous authors helped, as did her age at the time of conceiving the book, but Frankenstein was the only one of her stories to achieve any fame. The level of fame it achieved, however, was astounding. In fact, even though it was originally published in 1818, Alasdair Gray still saw fit to use Frankenstein as his primary inspiration for Poor Things in 1992. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story grows from this inception to the somewhat vague description of Victor s creation. Shelley, through Victor, through Walton, explains the manner in which Victor prowled graveyards and such to compile body parts, much like Shelley used disjointed segments of individual observations to compile her story. Then, she delves into a birth. The animation of his project scares Victor so much, that he immediately abandons the creation, only to later see the monster in his room, reaching for Victor with a grin. Victor ‘escapes, abandons his child again. The lack of parenting and guidance is remarkable, no doubt inspired by Mary s own situation at the time. Then, as Victor wanders aimlessly, he encounters his childhood best friend, Clerval. Clerval is one of the truly honest characters in the book, though he also has problems with his father. He is Victor s true friend, one who will love him regardless, though Victor is monstrous enough to miss that fact, and tells Clerval nothing of his creation. Shelley then introduces us to Justine Moritz, a maid at the Frankenstein s home, who was mistreated by her mother before coming to work for them. Her love for the Frankenstein family is deep and pure. This is why it is such a shock to find out that she is the primary suspect in the murder of Victor s younger brother. Oh no this little freshman is a little too happy, I m guessing its another boy in her jazz band. Because of the way in which line and proportion are utilized, this woodblock print gracefully portrays the sheer power of the ocean. Derived from the Edo period in nineteenth century Japan, this classic was the first of a series of works from Hokusai titled Thirty six views of Mount Fuji, all of which effortlessly depict the mountain in a wide array of angles and scenery. Arguably, The Great Wave off Kanagawa is the most iconic and cherished piece of Japanese artwork in the world. In the cases of fallacies, not every premise will support the conclusion making that argument invalid. The first argument we see is Denying the Disjunct, which involves two statements, in two forms, which can be explained through four forms. The first form is If S1 or S2, not S1, therefore S2 (pg. 164). The second form is If S1 or S2, Tf S1 (pg.164). This means that if the premise denies the disjunct, then the conclusion is false. We are now presented with Affirming the Antecedent, whose form is If S1, then S2, S1, tf, S2 (Pg.170). This is shown because if the first statement affirms or supports the second statement, then it affirms the antecedent. The statements do not contradict or deny each other. The next argument we see is the Fallacy: Denying the antecedent, which is when premise is conditional, but it denies the antecedent. The antecedent is the part of the statement we learned through facts of background knowledge, but if S1 denies S2, then the argument as a whole is invalid (pg.172). Denying the Consequent is not a fallacy, but it occurs when one premise is conditional, but it denies the consequent. Because the consequent is denied, then we know that the conclusion is denied as well. (pg.173). The form is If S1, then S2, not S2, therefore, not S1. Therefore, from declining his Kennedy Center Award because of his dislike for the President to breaking the taboos of television in the 1970s, Norman Lear has remained a visible changemaker in our society. Lear fused comedy and serious social issues together. All in the Family became the center of national debate between comedy and social issues.
