Spatial Cognition is Necessary for Navigation and to...
1. Introduction
Spatial cognition concerns the ability to acquire, organize, store and retrieve knowledge of spatial
properties (e.g., location, distance, direction) in the complex environment in order to navigate and
perceive location precisely (Allen et al., 1996; Hardiess et al., 1999). It is one of the most
important abilities that animals and humans have to help them adapt and survive in the world. For
example, identifying food location, wayfinding, perceiving scenes are all based on this ability. For
many years, elegant behavioral, neurobiological and neuropsychological methods have been used to
investigate the spatial behavior of human and non human species (Denis Loomis, 2007). In this
essay, I am going to talk about how different neuroscientific approaches contribute to our
understanding of neural bases of spatial cognition and their role in related processes.
2. Brain regions involved in spatial cognition and related processes
Much studies using various methods, including single unit recordings, patient/lesion studies, non
invasive brain imaging and brain interference studies, have been done to investigate neural
mechanisms underlying spatial cognition. As results, researchers have found several brain regions
involved in processing of spatial information, including parietal cortex and hippocampus (Burgess,
Jeffery, O Keefe, 1999). Also, it is very important to know which reference frame is used when we
discussing spatial functions of these brain regions

How Did Emily Dickinson s Life Influence Her Poetry
Emily Dickinson Her Life and Poetry
Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born December 10, 1830, into an influential family in Amherst,
Massachusetts. Her father helped found Amherst College, where Emily later attended between
1840 and 1846. She never married and died in the house where she was born on May 15, 1886.
Emily Dickinson s reclusive life was arguably a result of her proposed bi polar disorder. This life
and disorder unduly influenced the themes of her poetry. She chose not to associate herself with
society and volumes of her poems, published posthumously, examine this idea as well as the
themes of nature and death. The clearest examples of these themes are presented in the following
analysis of just of few of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poem conjures images of a solemn ceremony in which the soul reigns superior by shutting out
everyone, including the emperor, similar to the shutting out of everyone that Dickinson did. In one
of Dickinson s most famous poems, I heard a Fly buzz, the theme of death is presented as well as a
symptomatic characteristic of bi polar disorder. The poem itself epitomizes her preoccupation with
death and the macabre and also shows how the small, normally ignorable sound of a fly buzzing
becomes the only thing heard, she magnifies this sound in a situation when it seems that everything
else is much more important, but this inability to drown out extraneous noises is typical of
someone suffering from manic depression. The form of this poem employs all of Dickinson s
formal patterns: trimeter and tetrameter iambic lines, her specific use of the dash to interrupt the
meter of the poem, and it is in ABCB rhyme scheme.
Two of Dickinson s universal techniques are metaphor and the fresh application of language; both
techniques result in powerful images, and can be seen in two of her poems that focus on nature
themes, A Bird came down the Walk and narrow Fellow. She closes the poem, A Bird with a stanza
equating flight through the air with movement through water,

Psychological And Sociological Effects Of Technology
Psychological Considerations and Sociological Effects There have been many studies done on
the negative psychological and sociological effects of technology while some may be true
technology has its share of positive effects on society. The advances of technology have aided in
the access to information from relatively anywhere. According to Hepburn (2013) By the end of
2014, the number of Internet users was expected to be almost 3 billion, two thirds of whom live
in the developing world, and the number of mobile broadband subscriptions was expected to reach
2.3 billion globally (as cited in YГЎГ±ez, Okada, Palau2015, p.89). It has become easier to stay
connected to family, friends, access personal information, and has improved educational
opportunities. Technology is always evolving and changing for the better. Mobile technologies and
networks are increasingly expanding in their sophistication and capacity, and new applications
(software programs) are enhancing the ways in which individuals interact (Giota, 2014). Medical
Uses Advancements in technology have made it possible for people to access medical information,
communicate with their doctor, manage and track diseases, seek help, and maintain anonymity.
Technology has facilitated the tracking of medical information, for example, Kaiser Permanente
uses a computerized system to store and track patient information. Any doctor in a Kaiser facility
can access patient information, ensuring the doctor is retrieving

Steep Analysis
Introduction
This paper contains a STEEP (Social, Technological, Environmental, Economical and Political)
analysis of the implications on sustainability in construction. The STEEP analysis will be based
on 5 different peer reviewed journals that I have read on each area of STEEP. These journals
will be cross examined and compared to one another to see if there is any correlation between
them. Firstly I will talk about each journal and summarize what it is about; I will then try and
relate the journals to each other in some way. If one journal cannot be related to any of the others, I
will state this in my conclusion and provide a reason why there is no connection or relationship
between that specific journal and the others.

Northern Ireland s sustainable development strategies and policies are discussed next, how the
environment has been at the bottom of the investment list, and that change is coming about with
the newly proposed Sustainable Development Strategy due to come in on May 2006. The agenda
of this strategy is explained and priority areas are listed, but the paper goes on to explain that
unless all government policies are engaged, then this strategy will not work. The link between
sustainable development and health is then explained and that it doesn t make sense to have one
without the other. This link is then explained by talking about the public health strategy in
Northern Ireland which ties in with the Northern Ireland Fuel Poverty Strategy (Department of
Social Development; 2004). The two are related because the health of those who had no money for
fuel deteriorated because they had to live in cold and damp dwellings with mould on the walls.
The Author s feel that in order to promote sustainable health and development in the island of
Ireland, an integrated approach is essential which would mean that those working in Public health
organisations must work along with those from environmental health.

3. The Fire Sermon
The Fire Sermon is the third part of The Waste Land . The title is derived from a similar named
work by Buddha, which T.S. Eliot himself considered corresponding
В…in importance to the sermon of the mountВ… (Eliot 1971: 148).
In addition to the title, at the end of the poem Eliot also refers to this work. 3.1 Structure
The structure of the Fire Sermon is not easy to analyze. The poem does not have a straight
rhyme scheme or rhythm. Its main structural element is variation. Therefore I would suggest
seeing the whole poem reflecting the image of a river. This is done on various levels: the actions
and places described in the poem merge into one another, the transitions are flowing (cf. line 255
257, where first the record is put on the gramophone and then although there is a shift in place and
speaker it says This music crept by me upon the waters ), and also the rhythm and rhyme scheme
are constantly changing, so speed and intonation of a reader have to be adapted, just as a river runs
sometimes faster and sometimes more slowly.
There are parts with much more regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. Especially the part from line
218 I TiresiasВ… until line 256 And puts a recordВ… ). This reflects on the one hand the
monotony of the relationship ( love would not be suitable here!) of the described couple and on the
other hand this is the part, which is most clearly set in the

West Memphis Three Injustice
The justice system was designed to put away criminals, while maintaining the security and
wellbeing of society. A process is followed by trained and well educated people, yet this doesn t
go without mishaps and wrong doings. The justice system is looked upon as part of societies
safety net, yet can be demonized when it falters. The case of the West Memphis 3 is a case of
injustice, while showing how easily the justice system can fail us, yet how important it is to our
society to get it right. Between the detectives, the prosecution, and the public, three teenagers,
Michael Wayne (Damien) Echols, Charles Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Loyd Misskelley Jr., were
wrongly convicted and as of today the real killers are still out there. Twenty three years... Show

Jessie was a 17 year old who was described as having a low IQ of 72 and was considered to be
borderline mentally retarded (Lohr, 2012). His father pulled him from school in the 9th grade
and taught him how to be a mechanic. Misskelley initially confessed to the murders after a 12
hour interrogation without proper legal representation or parental supervision. Misskelley
recanted his story a few hours later but his confession was still allowed as evidence (Davis, n.d.).
Misskelley was found guilty on one count of first degree murder and two counts of second
degree murder, and sentenced to life plus 40 years, he was also released in 2011. The errors
within the legal system failed these three teenagers, costing them over 18 years of their lives. John
Fogleman, deputy prosecutor, tied the defendants to a cult as motive for the killings. Chief
detective Gary Gitchell interrogated Misskelley and has been noted to have coerced Misskelley s
confession by telling him what to say. Brent Davis was the prosecutor in the trial of Echols and

Mass Hysteria In Society
Human beings are complex. There is not one person on this earth that is perfect, but that s the
beauty of it. Everyone has moments in their lives where they might just go crazy. Mass hysteria is
a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior
or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness (Dictionary.com). There have been multiple instances
where large amounts of people have identical symptoms that alienate them from others in society.
Many factors play into the incline of mass hysteriain students over others: similar social problems,
challenges, or traumatic events.
Everyone deals with stress at some point in their life, and students especially are burdened with
many different forms of it. Earlier this year, in the Okongo territory of Ohangwena, Namibia, the
Oshisho Combined School experienced its first outbreak of unnatural behavior. Basically, a bunch
of girls at the school were acting and doing very abnormal things and no one knew what was going
on. According to the African News Service, the students exhibited strange behaviour such as
speaking in what sounded like a strange language. There were a lot of rumors swirling around that
coerced people into thinking that the bizarre behavior, from mostly girls, was related to that of
witchcraft. They diagnosed the girls with the medical condition called Mass Hysteria (African news
service 2017). This quote, and the details succeeding it, supports the idea that

trouble going to sleep at a reasonable time, wakes up feeling groggy and doesn t want to go to
school to learn, he is unable to hang out with the people he enjoys, he always has some type of
stress level that does not allow him to enjoy life how he should, and doesn t always feel like he is

How Is Walt Disney Connected To The Future
For countless years Disney imagineers at The Walt Disney Company have exercised the concept of
creating a world that is connected to the future. Many futuristic elements have slowly been
incorporated into Disneyland and Disney World theme parks. Imagineers have used the original
source of Walt Disney s central vision of the future and how it would shape the world of Disney.
The issue with creating the narrative of tomorrow or the future is that it never stays the same, it is
however a concept that is forever changing.
Throughout American history, our progressive ideals of the future have shifted from bright, white,

Factors That Affect Political Attitudes Of Voters
There is a wide range of factors that influenced people when they cast their secret votes on Election
Day. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political
attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party
affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories.
The three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic
group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification
and the myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7
Party Coalition and Party Change shows how races, age, educational background and demographic
location have influence party coalitions. According to that theory, young, women, and racial
minorities tend to affiliate themselves with democrats whereas healthy white, evangelical white
programs tend to affiliate themselves with republicans. The second theory in the chapter 6 about
Party identification identifies how family, relative, and many others religious group influence party
affiliation. According to this theory, children tend to grow up and vote the way their parents do.
Therefore, families have the first and the most lasting influence on young people s developing
political opinions. As this children get older, various others group such as relatives and religious

Long ago, people used to be persecuted and executed for having their own personal beliefs, this
period of time was known as the Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror began after the execution
of Louis XVI on January 21, 1793, lasting almost 2 years. It was a period during the French
Revolution where waves of executions arose to those who were enemies of the state. This occurred
due to revolutionaries attempting to form a new government based on the freedom for citizens. In
order to achieve this, they went through extreme measures to reach their goal and were responsible

Example Of Assimilation In America
Assimilation in America
In American society, there are multiple cultures and races exist. Since immigrants bring the various
cultures to America, Americans face a highly controversial problem. Some of the Americans
believe all of the ethnic groups assimilate into a common culture can help Americans distinctly
identify themselves. Others argue that ethnic groups should not abandon their cultural heritages
background. As a result, merging different cultures into one new culturewill cause America lose its
cultural diversity which is one significant charm of this country. On the contrary, if every ethnic
group only focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will
aggravate the separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one
is more appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays
American society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is
inevitable and reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to
us through his experiences.
First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. He
indicates that As much as the country is joined in a common culture, however, Americans are
reluctant to celebrate the process of assimilation. We pledge allegiance to diversity. (Paragraph 7)
To clarify, when a single culture assimilates into a common culture, the

I believe their future will depend on meeting consumer preferences, revisions in regulations, and
international business. The energy drink industry is subject to changing consumer tastes that may
negatively affect Monster if they do not meet demand. Increases in consumer awareness of the
dangers of energy consumption will continue to represent a challenge. Legislation has already been
proposed to restrict the sale of energy drinks, limit caffeine content in beverages, impose
additional taxes, limit product sizes, and impose age restrictions for the sale of energy drinks
(Monster Beverage Corporation, 2015). Monster Energy will continue to broaden their line with an
increased selection of organic, diet, light, and low calorie drinks. Opportunities in the international
market also exist for Monster Energy. Red Bull dominates the international market, but I expect
Monster to present a challenge due to their recent partnership with Coca Cola. This partnership
will allow them to utilize Coca Cola s extensive distribution network. Coca Cola transferred their
NOS and Full Throttle energy drink brands to Monster Energy also, so now the company will have
a greater share of the market. Although Red Bull is the leader in the energy drink market, Monster
has the greatest drive and consumer following. I think they will be the number one selling energy

Holden Caulfield Rejection
As most teenagers and young adults would agree, growing up is a difficult task to which no
alternative is present. Every person must grow up and lose much of the innocence they had as
youth, no matter how badly one may want to hold on to it. Holden Caulfield, an expert catcher in
the rye , seems to think he can thwart time and the natural progression to adulthood by keeping as
boyish and innocent as he possibly can. He tries to find acceptance among his peers and his
teachers, only to be met with rejection after rejection of his refusal to adulthood. He is, every so
often, met with acceptance of his insistence on staying in high school. In the novel, The Catcher in

Social Criticism Of Abortion
According to Wikipedia, abortion is the premature exit of the products of conception (the fetus,
fetal membranes, and placenta) from the uterus. It is the loss of a pregnancy and does not refer to
why the pregnancy was lost. Abortion is a very contentious issue and the attitude towards it has
always been and is still very controversial. It has caused uncounted deaths and several violent
confrontations between the supporters of the two separate parties. Pro life supporters advocate that
everyone has the right to life, even Fetus, and Pro choice supporters argue that the right to abortion
is absolute. In Abortion, No more Apologies, Katha Pollitt states abortion as a normal part of a
woman s reproductive life, one that should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pollitt also insisted that woman should not have anyone s permission to make healthcare decisions.
Contraception is one of these decisions that woman should be making with her doctor. She referred
to the example of Trust Woman, a popular motto in the pro choice movement. The movement gave
the absolute right and freedom for every woman in the abortion issue. It also supported women to
make their own decisions, no one else can make a better decision (p.15). Women seeking to
terminate a pregnancy understand what s going on. They don t need a patronizing reminder from
politicians, or difficult rules imposed by doctors, or even ethics from church or family. They only
need to trust themselves and take the right decision according to their life, health, and body. Pollitt
has even gone further with defending abortion as a constitutional right. The Supreme Court has
ruled on it, in 1973, in Roe v. Wadecase, which affirms the legality of a woman s right to have an
abortion under the Fourteenth Amendment. Why is it then, that women who seek an abortion, are
treated like criminals? Laws prohibiting abortion prevent women from making the personal choices
that enable them to live the lifestyle they want, reducing their ability to contribute effectively to the
society. Moreover, the ideal abortion law, according to Pollitt, is a blank piece of paper. She
approaches the

must be an effective manner of evaluating the GEOINT collection strategy to ensure the greatest
amount of GEOINT is collected to satisfy a Joint Force Commander s (JFC) Priority Intelligence
Requirements (PIR). This imbalance between the amount of collection that is needed and the
capacity available to acquire and exploit the images drives home the necessity for a GEOINT
collection strategy that incorporates a method for measuring its effectiveness of satisfying
requirements throughout the execution cycle of collection operations.
When discussing the options available for measuring GEOINT collection effectiveness a brief
background section will highlight the significance of ISR GEOINT collection across the six
phases of operations. Additionally, the background section will provide a review of

Redefining Gender Roles Of A Streetcar Named Desire
Oscar Madera
Dr. Amaya Anderson
ENGL 103
8 May 2016
Dissecting Gender Roles in A Streetcar Named Desire The representation of gender roles is among
the most prominent recurring subjects in theatre, literature and expressive art as we know it.
Gender, and what it means to human beings, is a subject that is as difficult to precisely define as
death, race, and the concept of existence. Anne Beall, Ph.D. graduate in Social Psychology at Yale
University, details in her book The Psychology of Gender that Gender is socially defined
masculinity and femininity. Social psychology studies how gender is defined, created, and
maintained through social influence, especially in the course of social interaction (Beall; 10).
The nature of gender roles is ultimately dictated by temporal, societal, biological and even
geographical dimensions that are out of our control and though it is a given that gender as a
concept has kept as relevant as it is ancient, there has only been under a hundred years of
significant progress or general awareness on the matter. The subject matter of important art in any
given time period is a reflection of that society s most urgent struggles and the topic of gender has
remained a constant across human history. The physical and emotional features of characters in art
and literature are manifestations of the creator s perception on subjects such race and gender. The
message that a creator seeks to deliver on a topic, determines how they will convey the thoughts,

Chris Ofili The Holy Virgin Mary
The above quotes are used to describe Chris Ofili s most controversial painting, The Holy Virgin
Mary. Artists throughout time have often pushed the boundaries of artistic expression. Some have
been criticized and questioned from viewers if what they are making is truly art. Ofili is one of the
numerous artists who have created debatable paintings and received hate in return.
One of the many individuals who were in an uproar about Ofili s painting was the mayor of New
York City, Rudolph Giuliani. When he first saw the exhibit, Sensation, which included Ofili s
painting, he saw the unusual depiction of the Virgin Maryand was instantly appalled and disgusted.

In addition to the decorated excrement, the entire painting is supported by two varnished balls of
dung. They are also decorated with tiny pins that spell out the words Virgin on one and Mary on
the other. Spectators often see the elephant dung and are instantly appalled and disgusted. At first
glance the viewers might think that droppings were splattered, or smeared, unthoughtfully over a
holy icon. However, instead of unintentionally and carelessly thrown onto the canvas, Ofili
deliberately placed the varnished dung onto the painting to represent the bare breast. The simple
nature of propping the portraiture up off the ground with two little balls of dung gives it a
feeling that [it has] come from the earth rather than simply being hung on a wall (Vogel). Even
though some viewers might think that using a normally foul item as a collage element is
blasphemous to the holy image of Mary, in the African culture it is sacred (Sooke). Ofili was
inspired to incorporate elephant dung in his art due to a safari trip in Zimbabwe. Scattered around
the Zambezian ground, Ofili took interest in the sacred African element and even brought some of
samples of it home to use in his work. He started to experiment with using the excrement in some of
his earlier paintings and had success. Ofili said that using the droppings attract a multiple of

Food Preservatives
Introduction
A preservative is a naturally occurring or synthetically produced substance that is added to
products such as foods, pharmaceuticals, paints, biological samples, wood, etc. to prevent
decomposition by microbial growth or by undesirable chemical changes. All food products except
for the one growing in our kitchen garden have food preservatives in them. Every manufacturer
adds food preservatives to the food during processing. The purpose is generally to avoid spoilage
during the transportation time.
Food is very important for the survival, so food preservation is one of the oldest techniques used by
human beings to avoid its spoilage. Different ways and means have been found and improved for
the purpose. Boiling, freezing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lives of the Saints Essay
Lives of the Saints
Lives of the Saints is a story that examines the complexities and tribulations of everyday life in a
small town. Throughout the novel, we discover that even the most trustworthy and caring
individuals live secret lives behind closed doors, and that the surface appearance of minor
communities can be very deceptive. Some people spend their entire adult lives trying to knock
down these doors and discover the truth, but perhaps they are overlooking the key to the lock... our
children.

the mountain, he doesn t understand what has happened. ...I felt myself flush with anger and hate,
hate for Fabrizio, my only friend, who seemed suddenly stupid and useless beyond all bearing
(127). Eventually, as Vittorio makes his progression towards maturity, he realizes that he had
underestimated his friend, and they become closer because of it. As the old saying goes, ignorance
is bliss. But perhaps in the case of this young boy, it isn t. Maybe if he had been able to understand
the severity of the problem his family was in, he would have acted differently.
Lives of the Saints also deals with the contrast of good and evil, something that Vittorio comes
across on numerous occasions throughout the story. (There are far more characters in this story
then I could mention on these pages, so I will write about the people who had the greatest effect
on Vittorio). His encounter with Luciano of Rocca Secca is one of the key elements in the book.
For his seventh birthday, Vittorio and his mother travel to Rocca Secca to buy him some birthday
presents. On their way towards the market, Cristina meets a tall, muscular man that Vittorio has
never seen. The man (Luciano) carries him piggyback down to a secluded area of town, and takes
a large one lira coin out of his pocket. Luciano tells him the story of

The United States Pharmaceutical Market Based On A Health...
Background: In the United States, healthcare is based on a health insurance model that is managed
mainly through private insurance. The private insurance is mainly sponsored by employers. Around
52% of the American population is covered by employer sponsored insurance and just 5% covered
by individual insurance. Public coverage of healthcare is provided through Medicare, Medicaid and
other programs run by both federal and state governments. Approximately, 27% of the population is
covered by these public arrangements and the remaining 15% is uninsured (Chu et.al., 2010). The
United States pharmaceutical market is mainly market based. Various health plans are aggregated
together by private payers, such as health insurers, managed care organizations and pharmaceutical
benefit managers and they purchase pharmaceuticals on behalf of their members. Often, differential
cost sharing, formularies and other methods are employed by these payers to influence prescribing
practices, allowing them to negotiate discounted prices from pharmaceutical manufacturers and
pharmacies (Chu et.al., 2010). Shared Risk Contracting Risk sharing occurs when two parties
identify a risk and agree to share the loss upon the occurrence of the loss due to the risk.
(Outsourcing Law.com, 2015). The parties should have a mutual interest in achieving the outcome
and they should agree to share the risks associated with achieving that. The sharing of risk is mainly

band s name. The Stones recorded and sold what is estimated to be more than a quarter million

Hester Street American Dream Essay
Throughout U.S. history, immigrants have struggled to find a balance between the adoption of
American culture and the preservation of their native cultures. While many immigrants near the
turn of the 20th century desired full assimilation into American culture, like Jake from Joan Micklin
Silver s 1975 film Hester Street, many immigrants today maintain strong ties to their home
countries and native cultures. But, considering the recent increase in political and social discussion
surrounding the topic of immigration, the struggle to balance American and native customs has
intensified for many immigrants. While some tightly cling to their ethnic identities as a reminder
of their roots, others fear xenophobic sentiments or simply desire a new culture, more quickly
adopting an Americanized lifestyle. Whether open to assimilation or not, many immigrants, like
Jake, hope to attain the American Dream . A vision shared by millions of Americans, both
immigrants and native born, the American Dream represents the ability to work hard and achieve
success for oneself, regardless of status, wealth, race, or creed. This search for success in America
has happened for hundreds of years, and is literally the reason the nation was established. Overall,
there are countless ways for immigrants to find a balance in adopting American cultureand
achieving the American Dream, topics not only heavily dealt with in Hester Street, but also
relevant to the immigrants of today.

Cole Porter Night Essay
The first performance of the night was Night and Day. This song was composed by Cole Porter in
1932. This modern era composition by Cole Porter would be considered a sonata genre on the night
of the performance. A sonata is a musical composition that is performed by one to two instruments.
In my case, from attending this recital, the Saxophone and Pianomake up the two instruments.
Indeed, the whole night was a night of jazzy performances, but this first song was a more upbeat
song, such as an allegro tempo. The tune was very enjoyable.
The second performance of the night was East of the Sun, composed by Brooks Bowman in
1934. This composition is from the modern era and the genre of this piece is also a sonata as it
was played by the two performers of the night. This piece was more of a moderato allegro tempo
as it was at fast pace but not as fast as the first song. This songs was very jazzy and soothing. In
the middle of the piece the piano had a solo. After the solo, the piece slowed down and got quieter.
Overall, this piece was calmer than the first song.
The third song of the recital was called Stablemates. Stablemates was composed by Benny

and piano were important. Indeed, there was a solo for the piano in this song. I assume that the
saxophone player needs a time to rest, therefore the piano plays a solo in the middle of the piece.

The Cove, By Mark Monroe And Directed By Louis Psihoyos
Dogs are regarded as man s best friend, but in the sea, that title is claimed by dolphins. Humans
have long regarded dolphins as magical and friendly creatures. With their penchant for saving
humans from dire situations like shark encounters or drowning, and their friendly playfulness,
dolphins have certainly earned their reputation. The Cove is an award winning film written by
Mark Monroe and directed by Louis Psihoyos in which an investigation id made of the annual
carnage in Japan where hundreds of dolphins are dispatched in masses. Although it has been shown
that dolphins are sentient creatures, the Japanese government utilizes dubious ethic methods for
still participating in the destruction of dolphin populations.
Japan is renowned around the world for being an extremely prosperous nation despite being the only
populace to have been bombed by nuclear weapons. From that point on, the Japanese has
reinvigorated a more modern culture. But for the outcry of respect for traditional Japanese culture,
the coast local fishermen claim that their justification for hunting dolphins is that You eat cows.
Well, we eat dolphins (The Cove). The workers inform protestors that it is part of their culture to
partake in the production and consumption of dolphin meat. The fishermen clarify that dolphins in
Japan are like cows in the U.S. Just as the U.S. businesses cultivate farm animal agriculture as a

Have you ever wondered why you see certain shapes or patterns in the sky formed by stars? Well,
these formations are called constellations. There are tons of different constellations that represent
different logics of many poets, farmers, and astronomers. Along the years, there have been many
different relations that the constellations have to famous myths and stories that are a part of world
life. In addition, the constellations are related to zodiac signs, which represent where the sun was in

constellation being pretty low in the sky during autumn, the legend states that it s the blood of the

A Brief Note On Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uavs )
Review of Literature As they are advancing, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) increasingly use
battery technology coupled with electric motors to supply energy, as opposed to fossil fuel
combustion engines (Floreano Wood, 2015). However, general development associated with
UAVs sees the simultaneous processes of advancement of UAV operated tasks in terms of
complication and required time and relative stagnation of the battery technology that must be used
to power the UAVs in such tasks (Floreano Wood, 2015). The goal of a battery system in general
is to maximize energy capacity and to minimize the total cell mass necessary to facilitate a given
quantity of the former and researchers are at a standstill when the most energy dense material
available, lithium, cannot be utilized in its elemental form and reacts violently with many cathode
materials (Hossain, 1995; Murata, Izuchi, Yoshihasa, 2000). The literature will hereinafter be
organized in its relation to:
1.The interaction of battery systems with UAVs
2.The mechanisms of a lithium ion cell
3.The development of solid polymer electrolytes for batteries
4.Peukert s Law and its application to lithium polymer technology
These four concepts together will cover the groundwork for studying the electrochemistry of and
creating a mathematical model for a lithium ion battery used in an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution
For over three hundred years, Russia had been controlled by an autocratic government known as
the tsarist regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over
the country. (BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to
impose its will on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of
force caused repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially
an outburst from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two
separate strikes in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike
which placed the Bolshevik party in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic
transformation to the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took
power over Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which
proved vital for Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to
the country s development. Today, in modern history we credit Vladimir Leninfor the Revolution s
succession. However, many people forget to acknowledge the role played by Leon Trotskywho
stood by Lenin s side throughout the Revolution. I believe that Leon Trotsky and his actions during
the Russian Revolution were essential to the security of the revolution and therefore his overall
impact and status is heroic.

The Three Levels Of Standardness In English
The three levels of standardness in English are formal standard English, informal standard
/mainstream English, and vernacular English (Wolfram Schilling, 2016). Based in written
language, formal standard English is greatly enforced in formal institutions such as schools and is
codified in English grammar texts. It is resistant to change and only used in formal written or
spoken language (Wolfram Schilling, 2016). Informal standard English exists on a continuum in
which speakers are judged to be more or less standard. A speaker s perceived level of standardness
is flexible and subjective, and dependent on the speaker and listener s experiences, regional and

The few occasions where pronunciations were different were single occurrences that were later
correctly pronounced. There were some instances in which the speaker s grammar may be
considered vernacular, such as like I say [like I said] or he s done real well [he s done really

comparison to grammatical structures such as double negatives.
The five historical explanations for US dialects given by Wolfram and Schilling (2016) are
settlement, migration, geography, contact, and economic ecology and social stratification. The
explanations for the dialect of my DARE speaker include settlement and migration.
My speaker lives in the West dialect region. The western coast was the last area in North
America to be reached in the gradual westward expansion of English speaking settlement (Labov,
Ash Boberg, 2006). Because of this, the dialect of the West region has a mixture of linguistic
patterns from regions across the United States (Labov, Ash Boberg, 2006) and is the least likely
to be affected by the founder effect and/or other characteristics of the native languages of settlers
(Wolfram Schilling, 2016) . It is also arguable that speakers of the West region dialect does not
speak in a variety the same way that a speaker from the Appalachian region might.

Pros And Cons Of Influencer Marketing
Internet nowadays is permeating every facet of our world and every generation. It allows the
masses to wrest control of fame from traditional media, creating micro celebrities with the click of
a mouse or swipe of a finger. Influencer, as known as internet celebrity or Wang Hong in China, is a
nascent term to describe those who gain huge influence and have built favorable reputation by
means of social media. In the cyber world, netizens just cannot help discussing about internet
celebrities. What they have worn, what they have said and even how they live are magnifying by
their followers, in which many of internet celebrities translate their audience s attention into profit.
Sina Weibo once summarized business models of Internet celebrityas follows: Create a pretty and
fashionable self image,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But it doesn t mean that influencer marketing is dead. Influencer marketing agencies are success
drivers first because they are trusted to choose the right influencers. As long as audiences trust their
influencers, influencer marketing will not be dead. It is down to the agencies but the influencers
also play their part. Another aspect to consider is that influencer marketing agencies that have a
more manual approach will progressively put themselves out of business. Technological businesses
will gradually replace them because they know how to get a one to one relationship with the
influencers but also to identify them through technology. Many people tend to conciliate influence
with popularity. Influencers are not only ideas maker; they also have a highly engaged community.
The first objective of influencer marketing is not only to generate viral content but to interact and
engage with a target audience through the influencer s voice. All in all, influencer marketing is
evolving at a rapid pace and will continue to

My Tribe Beliefs
My Tribe and Their Beliefs and Their Consents
It would be devastating if my tribe was to find out years later that they were involved in a scientific
study that they knew nothing about. For most tribal communities, it is important to respect their
culture and their beliefs. Scientists do not have the right to offend a tribal community, even if it was
unintentional and due to ignorance regarding the taboo topics within the tribe from the researchers.
For many reasons, it is important to inform the tribe and the individuals who donate their DNA
samples exactly what their samples will be used for. Tribal communities are unlike many modern
communities. Tribal communities carry much pride in their history, their culture, and their beliefs.
Offending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What their samples were actually used for, well that was completely different. Without their
permission, the DNA samples were used to study topics that are considered taboo within the
Havasupai tribe such as mental illness, migration, and inbreeding. There were many issues raised
in the Havasupai case. To begin with, informed consent is an issue because samples were used
without complete consent. Researchers only received consent for using the samples to study
diabetes, or that is what the tribe members were told. Another issue raised in this case was
migration studies, which is a topic that concerns may tribes because the scientific evidence based
on their genetic research may go against certain tribal beliefs. Each tribe has their own beliefs
based on their origin and migration studies may cause these tribes trouble. Scientists may be
messing around with tribal history in the name of science. This would, without a doubt, raise
ethical concerns. Stigmatism of the tribe was another issue raised in this case. Measuring the
interbreeding coefficient causes harm and distress to the tribal community. During this study,
researchers gained illegal access to medical records. Researchers did not have permission to
access the medical records from the tribal officials or the clinical administrators. This is an
invasion of privacy. It is also important to note that even though individuals within the study were
not named, naming the tribe risked the identification of these individuals. In a small community, it
is not hard to figure out who someone is based on genetic information that was released. The final
issue that was raised in the Havasupai case was how to control their samples. When a tribe
decides to enter a study, they must first decide if they ate going to enforce their control over the
samples and how they are used. If they decide to

Doctor Livesey-Personal Narrative
The Journey to Doctor Livesey s house was a quiet one. There were no signs of the men who
were with Pew anywhere near us on the southern English countryside, thank the heavens. The only
sounds to befall upon my ears were the steady clip clop of the horse s hooves, and the continuous
buzzing of numerous insects. No words could be found to kindle a conversation, and I had no
desire to start one. Flitting moments of time passed by, and soon enough, DoctorLivesey s house
appeared.
The sound of the hooves clip clopping was still echoing in my ears, but the noise seemingly grew
louder, as my anticipation upon arriving at Doctor Livesey s house rose. The group of Mr. Dance s

in the room, with Chase behind him.
Doctor Livesey! I said, with urgency. I quickly walked up to him.A lot has happened, sir! And, I
paused, I need to show you something. The doctor looked at me with understanding.
Sit. down, Jim. Tell me what s ensued. We both sat down at the table in the middle of the room.
He turned to his apprentice, who stood there with confusion written all over his face. Chase,
would you get water for Jim here? Chase nodded. Yes, sir. The apprentice went to fetch the water
in the next room. While he was doing so, I took the time to explain everything that had happened
back at the inn; about Pew s death, and the oilskin packet I had found in Billy Jones s wooden
chest. In the middle of explaining the oilskin packet, Chase had walked back in, with water in
hand. He set it in front of me, and I drank it all in no time at

Essay On How Did The British Rule Of 1763
There were several major disagreements between the American colonists and British rule between
1763 and the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The British, along with the colonists, had won a
costly war against the French and their Indian allies. It was during this time that England s views
of the New World had started to shift. Rather than focusing on the trade opportunities, more and
more policymakers concerned themselves with the land expansion of the British colonies. The
British also felt that the Americans were the primary beneficiaries of the war, and should help pay
for the debt. American colonists up until this point had been governed very loosely by Parliament
and were not receptive to the new laws, taxes, or the increased British... Show more content on

The Proclamation of 1763 was put in place to control and slow the westward expansion of the land
hungry American colonists. The British thought that a slow and limited westward expansion would
reduce the clashes with the Indians and also prevent migration away from the heavily invested
eastern seaboard. A demarcation line along the Appalachian Mountains was negotiated, somewhat
begrudgingly, with the Indians of the region. The Proclamation of 1763 was almost wholly ignored
by the colonists who continued to push west in search of new land. One of the biggest issues for the
British was the mounting debt incurred during the French and Indian war, along with the
maintenance of British troops garrisoned along the border of the Indian lands. The British made
several attempts to recoup monies from the Americans, the Stamp Act, the Townshend Duties, and
the Tea Act were among the most troublesome. The Stamp Act prohibited the Americans from
producing and using their own forms of paper currency, and required many printed materials in
America to be printed on paper purchased from England that was embossed with a

Summary Of Broken Bones
Title: Broken Bones!
There is always an adventure where my younger sister Lauren and I go. Our young minds
always find so much to do. With so little to do where we lived of course. Lauren and I would run
around and play with these two kids that lived in the same apartment complex. Their names
were Marco and Malik. Unfortunately, they were way younger than me but, I had no one else to
play with. No other kids lived where we lived. While I was in the sixth grade, the boys were only in
second and third grade. It wasn t as hard for Lauren to play with them as seeing how she is two
years younger than me. One day, we decided to play in the back yard where we almost always
played. In the backyard, there was a small dog house that sat ... Show more content on

Malik asked in a loud panicked voice. He wouldn t know considering he was taking a look out
waiting for Lauren to come around. I don t know, I was playing with the tree too, and the next
thing I know, she s screaming and falling off the dog house. Katie are you okay? I ve never seen
you cry before? Marco asked, concerned for me. Shaking my head side to side, tears still running
down my face and all I can feel is the deep pulsing that is running through my arm and wrist. The
boys rush over to me, trying to help me get up so that I can get to my mom in the house. Half
way there we see Lauren start rushing over to us when she sees me. Oh my! Katie what
happened? Lauren asked me speaking faster than normal trying to get out what she wanted to say.
She was playing on the tree while we were waiting for you and she fell off the tree house. Marco

The Core Components Of An Authoritarian Regime
1.The core components of an authoritarian regime are the lack of accessibility for citizens to
voice their opinions, and more importantly, to participate in politics through formal channels
(Mintz, Close and Croci 256 258). Authoritarian regimes also share an absence of government
accountability for any or all decisions due to a wide range of power (Mintz, Close and Croci 256
258). This is in stark contrast to democratic regimes where governmentaccountability is held with
the utmost importance with the citizens in said democratic country will move into action when
their government does not align or hold true to what they may have previously put forth.
Moreover, if a country s leader holds most of the power over their citizens by the continuous use
of coercive measures or other oppressive tactics by default will only lead to a greater deal of
problems. Furthermore, by having the necessary power to proactively work part and parcel of a
political community, a country, thereby grows through the collective understanding of other
citizens concerns as well as from their allowed regular involvement in government discussions
where the end decision can affect the citizens under that regime. Effectively demonstrating the
differences of an authoritarian regime with a democratic one.
2.As described in the report the persistence of an authoritarian presence in the Arab world holds
steadfast by the lack of an independent middle class, which does not allow feelings of
independence to

Reading Comprehension Is A Cognitive And Mental Problem...
The reading process is a cognitive and mental problem solving process of decoding symbols so
children can derive or construct the meaning of reading comprehension. The reading process is a
means of language, communication, and the sharing of ideas and information. Comprehension is
when children have the ability to understand or get meaning from the texts they read. With reading
comprehension children will benefit greatly when explicit instruction is used. By doing this
children can learn how to apply comprehension strategies before, during, and after they read.
Reading comprehensionteaches children how to use text structures, summarize, and recall
information they learned and when to questionit. Fluency is when children can read with
expression, accuracy, and at a quick rate. When teachers and parents guide a child s oral reading
it has a positive impact on the child s comprehension, word recognition, and fluency skills.
Comprehension and fluency are so important for a child to be successful at reading because this is
how children begin to understand what they are reading. Fluency is very important because this
teaches children how to understand the text that they read. When you become fluent in reading
you re allowed to focus more on the content in the reading instead spending a lot of time decoding
each word. In order for children to become fluent readers they need to focus on how to break
words apart and how to decode them. Comprehension is dependent on the ability

The Federal Judicial System
When it comes to legal disputes the courts are the final decider of what the constitution means.
This authority known as judicial review gives the Supreme Court and other federal courts the
authority to interpret the constitution. The structure of the Federal judicial system is divided into
3 different courts, and each court plays a pivotal role in the judicial review. Along with the
Federal judicial system, there are other factors that affect the judicial review. The first structure of
the Federal judicial system is the district courts. There are 91 federal courts of original jurisdiction.
They are the only federal courts in which trials are held, and in which juries may be enrolled. Some

The Supreme Court is the highest court of the American judicial system. The Supreme Court of the
United States spends most of its time on a task, which is not delegated to the Supreme Court by the
Constitution. That task is hearing cases where the constitutionality of a law or regulation is
challenged. The Supreme Court s nine Justices attempt to sort out what is, and what is not
constitutional. The best known power of the Supreme Court is judicial review. Judicial review is
the power of the courts to determine whether acts of congress and executive are in accord with the
U.S. Constitution. This is not technically found within the text of the Constitution itself, but the
court established this doctrine in the case of Marbury v. Madison. In 1803 during Thomas
Jefferson s presidency, the Supreme Court of the U.S. was asked to decide the case of Marbury v.
Madison. The case presented a monumental clash that gave the federal courts the power to
determine the constitutionality of actions by the president and congress. Analyzing all of the legal
and historical ramification, Chief Justice John Marshall devised a solution for deciding the case.
He did this so the other 2 branches would accept the role of the courts and declare them
unconstitutional. He did this by limiting the authority of all three branches, including the judicial
branch. In Marbury v. Madison, the Supreme Court put limits on some of the powers of all 3
branches of government. They also declared the act of congress unconstitutional, limited some of
the president s appointment powers, and diminished some of the court s powers under the judiciary

Solar Energy s Place in the Power Industry Essay
Since when it was determined that electricity could be generated from the sun, the power
industry has taken slack for not considering it as a viable addition to their generation fleet.
However, there are two facts that need to be remembered with respect to the power industry. The
first thing to remember is that power has to be supplied to their customers regardless of the
weather or the time of day. Secondly, power companies are just like any other company; they are in
the business of making money. Because of those two facts, solar energyat its current technological
state has no place in the power industry s current generation fleet.

However, the downsides to using the diesel generators are that they are most expensive form of
generation and are most harmful to the environment. If the diesel generators still do not meet
demand, a power company will buy power from surrounding companies. If not enough power can
be bought, the power company will have to shed load or cut power to a portion of their customers
to prevent a system wide shutdown that will possibly effect neighboring utilities.
Though the trends in generation in the industry fluctuate, a power company s generation fleet is
pretty set in stone (nuclear, coal, combined cycle, natural gas and diesel). This diversification of
generation help the companies insure reliability in their system. However if there is one area that
could use significant improvement, it would be the companies response to periods of high
demand. As stated above in the opening, a power company has two main objectives. One, serve
power to all of their customers regardless of the situation, and two, make money. Buying power
from surrounding companies and shedding load are the worst case scenario. Also, running diesel
generators are not cost effective and have no sign of getting any cheaper considering the current
situation in the gas and oil industry. Therefore, solar power has the opportunity to fill a major void
in how power companies react in peak demand situations. However if you compare to the two

Abolishment Of Slavery In The USA
A.
i. In most cases, the more educated a country is, the more developed the country is. The concept
is easier to understand on a smaller scale. Imagine two people, Person A and Person B. Both
Person A and B are extremely intelligent and hardworking; the difference between them is their
opportunities. They both have access to primary school, and do very well. Person A goes on to
graduate from a secondary education, but Person B cannot because he does not have access to it.
Person B gets an unspecialized job, where he cannot utilize his brainpower. His potential is
wasted. After graduating from his secondary education, Person A goes for a tertiary education,
where he gets a degree in engineering. He uses his degree to help his country develop. Now,
imagine a country primarily populated with people like Person A. The country would develop
rapidly. A country primarily populated with people like Person B, however would hardly develop.

Slavery prevented African Americans from reaching their full potential. Just like women in India,
African American s potential contribution to development was untouched. Unfortunately, racial
inequality between African Americans and Caucasians in America went further than the
abolishment of slavery. After the abolishment of slavery, most places were segregated. African
Americans were isolated from opportunity. Fortunately, places are no longer segregated.
Unfortunately, though, this does not make up for everything. As a whole, the African American
population is not as developed. In fact, a significant majority of people living in ghettos are
African American. This is because they had a late start to contributing to development. If it were
not for slavery and segregation, African Americans would be just as developed as any other

Dueling Religious Ideologies Seen in Shakespeare’s The...
The dueling religious ideologies seen in Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice serve as the
cornerstones not only of the character s arguments during the trial at the end of the play, but of the
definitions of the character s own self perceptions. Shylock, the play s villain and the most
prominent of the play s three Jewish characters, employs his religious identity in defining his
conception of masculinity, connecting his perception of what it means to be male with his
profession, which he is allowed to practice due to the tenants of his Jewish faith. This economically
defined perception of his own masculinity becomes Shylocks undoing, as the play shows the slow

household are again defined through his economic dominion over those in his service. His

Isolated from the greater Venetian society by her Jewish faith, Jessica is further isolated by her
father s drive to assert his masculinity through his control of her. In Act 2, Scene 5, Shylock
demands that Jessica lock up my doors (2.5.30), and not let the sound of shallow foppery enter
/My sober house (2.5.36 7). He treats he no better than he does Lancelot, ordering her as a master

his own masculinity through these act of fatherly domination of his daughter, he is unaware that
Jessica is plotting a means by which she can emasculate her father and escape his influence once

Colonial Legislatures In America
The colonial legislatures, the First Great Awakening, the term Patriots , and the Preamble to the
U.S Constitution all relate to the historical theme of Ideas, Beliefs, and Culture. To begin with, the
colonial legislatures were a legislative system that consisted of an assembly and a council that
controlled the decision of taxes. The colonial legislatures were developed during the time that Great
Britain was under the policy of salutary neglect, which meant that the colonial legislatures gave the
colonists a sense of control over their business and affairs. This political movement helped shape
the American society because it gave the American society a sense of independence over Great
Britain when they gained control over their own business... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These terms relate to this theme because they relate to how the Americas influenced the wider
world and how the world influenced the Americas. To begin with, the Albany Plan of Union was
the proposal set to place the British North American colonies under a more centralized government,
however, the plan was never carried out. The Albany Plan of Union was the first important proposal
that revealed the colonies as a collective whole under one government. This relates to the place of
the Americas in world context because it was the first stepping stone that led to the government that
governs the United States today. The government has to do with the outer world because it controls
foreign business with other countries. Second, the Proclamation of 1763 was created to alleviate
relations with American Indians after the French and Indian War. The Proclamation of 1763 was
passed by the British government and stated that settlers weren t allowed to pass the Appalachian
Mountains. This led to rebellion amongst the settlers because it required any settlers living West of
the Appalachian mountain to move back East. This authoritative act passed by the British crown
relates to how the outer world influenced the Americas because it displays a cause and effect
situation of how the British crown ignited a reaction within the Americas. The Intolerable Acts
were also an authoritative act passed by the British crown that influenced a reaction within the
Americas. The Intolerable Acts were a set of laws passed that restricted the rights of the colonists
of Massachusetts after the Boston Tea Party. With limited rights the colonists began to rebel and
revolt just as they had down for the Proclamation of 1763. The Intolerable Acts also exhibit how the

  • 2. Spatial Cognition is Necessary for Navigation and to... 1. Introduction Spatial cognition concerns the ability to acquire, organize, store and retrieve knowledge of spatial properties (e.g., location, distance, direction) in the complex environment in order to navigate and perceive location precisely (Allen et al., 1996; Hardiess et al., 1999). It is one of the most important abilities that animals and humans have to help them adapt and survive in the world. For example, identifying food location, wayfinding, perceiving scenes are all based on this ability. For many years, elegant behavioral, neurobiological and neuropsychological methods have been used to investigate the spatial behavior of human and non human species (Denis Loomis, 2007). In this essay, I am going to talk about how different neuroscientific approaches contribute to our understanding of neural bases of spatial cognition and their role in related processes. 2. Brain regions involved in spatial cognition and related processes Much studies using various methods, including single unit recordings, patient/lesion studies, non invasive brain imaging and brain interference studies, have been done to investigate neural mechanisms underlying spatial cognition. As results, researchers have found several brain regions involved in processing of spatial information, including parietal cortex and hippocampus (Burgess, Jeffery, O Keefe, 1999). Also, it is very important to know which reference frame is used when we discussing spatial functions of these brain regions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Did Emily Dickinson s Life Influence Her Poetry Emily Dickinson Her Life and Poetry Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born December 10, 1830, into an influential family in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her father helped found Amherst College, where Emily later attended between 1840 and 1846. She never married and died in the house where she was born on May 15, 1886. Emily Dickinson s reclusive life was arguably a result of her proposed bi polar disorder. This life and disorder unduly influenced the themes of her poetry. She chose not to associate herself with society and volumes of her poems, published posthumously, examine this idea as well as the themes of nature and death. The clearest examples of these themes are presented in the following analysis of just of few of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poem conjures images of a solemn ceremony in which the soul reigns superior by shutting out everyone, including the emperor, similar to the shutting out of everyone that Dickinson did. In one of Dickinson s most famous poems, I heard a Fly buzz, the theme of death is presented as well as a symptomatic characteristic of bi polar disorder. The poem itself epitomizes her preoccupation with death and the macabre and also shows how the small, normally ignorable sound of a fly buzzing becomes the only thing heard, she magnifies this sound in a situation when it seems that everything else is much more important, but this inability to drown out extraneous noises is typical of someone suffering from manic depression. The form of this poem employs all of Dickinson s formal patterns: trimeter and tetrameter iambic lines, her specific use of the dash to interrupt the meter of the poem, and it is in ABCB rhyme scheme. Two of Dickinson s universal techniques are metaphor and the fresh application of language; both techniques result in powerful images, and can be seen in two of her poems that focus on nature themes, A Bird came down the Walk and narrow Fellow. She closes the poem, A Bird with a stanza equating flight through the air with movement through water, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Psychological And Sociological Effects Of Technology Psychological Considerations and Sociological Effects There have been many studies done on the negative psychological and sociological effects of technology while some may be true technology has its share of positive effects on society. The advances of technology have aided in the access to information from relatively anywhere. According to Hepburn (2013) By the end of 2014, the number of Internet users was expected to be almost 3 billion, two thirds of whom live in the developing world, and the number of mobile broadband subscriptions was expected to reach 2.3 billion globally (as cited in YГЎГ±ez, Okada, Palau2015, p.89). It has become easier to stay connected to family, friends, access personal information, and has improved educational opportunities. Technology is always evolving and changing for the better. Mobile technologies and networks are increasingly expanding in their sophistication and capacity, and new applications (software programs) are enhancing the ways in which individuals interact (Giota, 2014). Medical Uses Advancements in technology have made it possible for people to access medical information, communicate with their doctor, manage and track diseases, seek help, and maintain anonymity. Technology has facilitated the tracking of medical information, for example, Kaiser Permanente uses a computerized system to store and track patient information. Any doctor in a Kaiser facility can access patient information, ensuring the doctor is retrieving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Steep Analysis Introduction This paper contains a STEEP (Social, Technological, Environmental, Economical and Political) analysis of the implications on sustainability in construction. The STEEP analysis will be based on 5 different peer reviewed journals that I have read on each area of STEEP. These journals will be cross examined and compared to one another to see if there is any correlation between them. Firstly I will talk about each journal and summarize what it is about; I will then try and relate the journals to each other in some way. If one journal cannot be related to any of the others, I will state this in my conclusion and provide a reason why there is no connection or relationship between that specific journal and the others. The journals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Northern Ireland s sustainable development strategies and policies are discussed next, how the environment has been at the bottom of the investment list, and that change is coming about with the newly proposed Sustainable Development Strategy due to come in on May 2006. The agenda of this strategy is explained and priority areas are listed, but the paper goes on to explain that unless all government policies are engaged, then this strategy will not work. The link between sustainable development and health is then explained and that it doesn t make sense to have one without the other. This link is then explained by talking about the public health strategy in Northern Ireland which ties in with the Northern Ireland Fuel Poverty Strategy (Department of Social Development; 2004). The two are related because the health of those who had no money for fuel deteriorated because they had to live in cold and damp dwellings with mould on the walls. The Author s feel that in order to promote sustainable health and development in the island of Ireland, an integrated approach is essential which would mean that those working in Public health organisations must work along with those from environmental health. • 7. The Fire Sermon is the third part of The Waste Land . The title is derived from a similar named work by Buddha, which T.S. Eliot himself considered corresponding В…in importance to the sermon of the mountВ… (Eliot 1971: 148). In addition to the title, at the end of the poem Eliot also refers to this work. 3.1 Structure The structure of the Fire Sermon is not easy to analyze. The poem does not have a straight rhyme scheme or rhythm. Its main structural element is variation. Therefore I would suggest seeing the whole poem reflecting the image of a river. This is done on various levels: the actions and places described in the poem merge into one another, the transitions are flowing (cf. line 255 257, where first the record is put on the gramophone and then although there is a shift in place and speaker it says This music crept by me upon the waters ), and also the rhythm and rhyme scheme are constantly changing, so speed and intonation of a reader have to be adapted, just as a river runs sometimes faster and sometimes more slowly. There are parts with much more regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. Especially the part from line 218 I TiresiasВ… until line 256 And puts a recordВ… ). This reflects on the one hand the monotony of the relationship ( love would not be suitable here!) of the described couple and on the other hand this is the part, which is most clearly set in the ... • 8. West Memphis Three Injustice The justice system was designed to put away criminals, while maintaining the security and wellbeing of society. A process is followed by trained and well educated people, yet this doesn t go without mishaps and wrong doings. The justice system is looked upon as part of societies safety net, yet can be demonized when it falters. The case of the West Memphis 3 is a case of injustice, while showing how easily the justice system can fail us, yet how important it is to our society to get it right. Between the detectives, the prosecution, and the public, three teenagers, Michael Wayne (Damien) Echols, Charles Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Loyd Misskelley Jr., were wrongly convicted and as of today the real killers are still out there. Twenty three years... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jessie was a 17 year old who was described as having a low IQ of 72 and was considered to be borderline mentally retarded (Lohr, 2012). His father pulled him from school in the 9th grade and taught him how to be a mechanic. Misskelley initially confessed to the murders after a 12 hour interrogation without proper legal representation or parental supervision. Misskelley recanted his story a few hours later but his confession was still allowed as evidence (Davis, n.d.). Misskelley was found guilty on one count of first degree murder and two counts of second degree murder, and sentenced to life plus 40 years, he was also released in 2011. The errors within the legal system failed these three teenagers, costing them over 18 years of their lives. John Fogleman, deputy prosecutor, tied the defendants to a cult as motive for the killings. Chief detective Gary Gitchell interrogated Misskelley and has been noted to have coerced Misskelley s confession by telling him what to say. • 9. Mass Hysteria In Society Human beings are complex. There is not one person on this earth that is perfect, but that s the beauty of it. Everyone has moments in their lives where they might just go crazy. Mass hysteria is a condition affecting a group of persons, characterized by excitement or anxiety, irrational behavior or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness (Dictionary.com). There have been multiple instances where large amounts of people have identical symptoms that alienate them from others in society. Many factors play into the incline of mass hysteriain students over others: similar social problems, challenges, or traumatic events. Everyone deals with stress at some point in their life, and students especially are burdened with many different forms of it. Earlier this year, in the Okongo territory of Ohangwena, Namibia, the Oshisho Combined School experienced its first outbreak of unnatural behavior. Basically, a bunch of girls at the school were acting and doing very abnormal things and no one knew what was going on. According to the African News Service, the students exhibited strange behaviour such as speaking in what sounded like a strange language. There were a lot of rumors swirling around that coerced people into thinking that the bizarre behavior, from mostly girls, was related to that of witchcraft. They diagnosed the girls with the medical condition called Mass Hysteria (African news service 2017). This quote, and the details succeeding it, supports the idea that ... Picture a student that has all A s and B s, has a healthy, regular eating schedule, goes to sleep at a reasonable time, good social life with people he enjoys being around, and is stress free, always waking up happy without a worry on his mind. Now picture a student that struggles in school, never really has a huge appetite, has trouble going to sleep at a reasonable time, wakes up feeling groggy and doesn t want to go to school to learn, he is unable to hang out with the people he enjoys, he always has some type of stress level that does not allow him to enjoy life how he should, and doesn t always feel like he is as responsible as he should be? Now which one of those students do you think uses Cannabis? Student 1 or Student 2? You re probably thinking student 2 right? Well you re wrong if that is the case. Actually, both of those students are I, James Corbett, and I am going to be telling you how Cannabis was, and can still be, a healthy, and life changing part of my life that will and only will be for the better. First off, I am going to say this is not an essay where I am going to try to tell you all of the health facts on Cannabis, because honestly, you ve probably read them off of an article called War against drugs or something like How Marijuana use is killing off people everyday or something like that. • 12. How Is Walt Disney Connected To The Future For countless years Disney imagineers at The Walt Disney Company have exercised the concept of creating a world that is connected to the future. Many futuristic elements have slowly been incorporated into Disneyland and Disney World theme parks. The main research question driven by our survey was to know the factors that shape political attitudes of voters. One of the main political attitude that we are looking at in this research is party affiliation. In order to figure this out, out survey has been grounded around three mains theories. The three main theories that we tested in our survey was about the tendency of certain demographic group to support particular parties, the influence of childhood environment on party identification and the myth of independents voters. The first theory discussed had been discussed in the Chapter 7 Party Coalition and Party Change shows how races, age, educational background and demographic location have influence party coalitions. According to that theory, young, women, and racial minorities tend to affiliate themselves with democrats whereas healthy white, evangelical white programs tend to affiliate themselves with republicans. The second theory in the chapter 6 about Party identification identifies how family, relative, and many others religious group influence party affiliation. According to this theory, children tend to grow up and vote the way their parents do. On the contrary, if every ethnic group only focuses on building their own community and resists communicate with others, it will aggravate the separation of a nation. Although people often argue about these two ways which one is more appropriate to Americans, I think Richard Rodriguez s idea is more realistic in nowadays American society. Rodriguez resists the idea of the melting pot, and believes that assimilation is inevitable and reciprocal. In the essay Does America Still Exist?, Rodriguez explains his thought to us through his experiences. First, Rodriguez thinks the old metaphor of a melting pot is no longer accepted by Americans. Legislation has already been proposed to restrict the sale of energy drinks, limit caffeine content in beverages, impose additional taxes, limit product sizes, and impose age restrictions for the sale of energy drinks (Monster Beverage Corporation, 2015). It is the loss of a pregnancy and does not refer to why the pregnancy was lost. Abortion is a very contentious issue and the attitude towards it has always been and is still very controversial. It has caused uncounted deaths and several violent confrontations between the supporters of the two separate parties. Pro life supporters advocate that everyone has the right to life, even Fetus, and Pro choice supporters argue that the right to abortion is absolute. Pollitt also insisted that woman should not have anyone s permission to make healthcare decisions. Contraception is one of these decisions that woman should be making with her doctor. She referred to the example of Trust Woman, a popular motto in the pro choice movement. The movement gave the absolute right and freedom for every woman in the abortion issue. It also supported women to make their own decisions, no one else can make a better decision (p.15). Women seeking to terminate a pregnancy understand what s going on. They don t need a patronizing reminder from politicians, or difficult rules imposed by doctors, or even ethics from church or family. They only need to trust themselves and take the right decision according to their life, health, and body. Pollitt has even gone further with defending abortion as a constitutional right. The Supreme Court has ruled on it, in 1973, in Roe v. Wadecase, which affirms the legality of a woman s right to have an abortion under the Fourteenth Amendment. Why is it then, that women who seek an abortion, are treated like criminals? Laws prohibiting abortion prevent women from making the personal choices that enable them to live the lifestyle they want, reducing their ability to contribute effectively to the society. Redefining Gender Roles Of A Streetcar Named Desire Oscar Madera Dr. Amaya Anderson ENGL 103 8 May 2016 Dissecting Gender Roles in A Streetcar Named Desire The representation of gender roles is among the most prominent recurring subjects in theatre, literature and expressive art as we know it. Gender, and what it means to human beings, is a subject that is as difficult to precisely define as death, race, and the concept of existence. Anne Beall, Ph.D. graduate in Social Psychology at Yale University, details in her book The Psychology of Gender that Gender is socially defined masculinity and femininity. Social psychology studies how gender is defined, created, and maintained through social influence, especially in the course of social interaction (Beall; 10). The nature of gender roles is ultimately dictated by temporal, societal, biological and even geographical dimensions that are out of our control and though it is a given that gender as a concept has kept as relevant as it is ancient, there has only been under a hundred years of significant progress or general awareness on the matter. The subject matter of important art in any given time period is a reflection of that society s most urgent struggles and the topic of gender has remained a constant across human history. The physical and emotional features of characters in art and literature are manifestations of the creator s perception on subjects such race and gender. At first glance the viewers might think that droppings were splattered, or smeared, unthoughtfully over a holy icon. However, instead of unintentionally and carelessly thrown onto the canvas, Ofili deliberately placed the varnished dung onto the painting to represent the bare breast. The simple nature of propping the portraiture up off the ground with two little balls of dung gives it a feeling that [it has] come from the earth rather than simply being hung on a wall (Vogel). Science 8, Period 4 27 April, 2017 Constellations Have you ever wondered why you see certain shapes or patterns in the sky formed by stars? Well, these formations are called constellations. There are tons of different constellations that represent different logics of many poets, farmers, and astronomers. Along the years, there have been many different relations that the constellations have to famous myths and stories that are a part of world life. In addition, the constellations are related to zodiac signs, which represent where the sun was in the sky at the exact time and place of a person s birth. It s story in Greek mythology, is classified with Callisto, a gorgeous nymph who was turned into a bear by Zeus s envious wife Hera. Also, the Romans referred to the constellation as Septentrio, or seven plough oxen, but only two of the seven stars represent oxen while the others make a wagon. Native Americans tell the tale of how the bowl of the Big Dipper represents a big bear and the surrounding stars are warriors chasing after it. Due to the constellation being pretty low in the sky during autumn, the legend states that it s the blood of the bear that turns the leaves on trees red. • 35. A Brief Note On Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ( Uavs ) Review of Literature As they are advancing, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) increasingly use battery technology coupled with electric motors to supply energy, as opposed to fossil fuel combustion engines (Floreano Wood, 2015). However, general development associated with UAVs sees the simultaneous processes of advancement of UAV operated tasks in terms of complication and required time and relative stagnation of the battery technology that must be used to power the UAVs in such tasks (Floreano Wood, 2015). The goal of a battery system in general is to maximize energy capacity and to minimize the total cell mass necessary to facilitate a given quantity of the former and researchers are at a standstill when the most energy dense material available, lithium, cannot be utilized in its elemental form and reacts violently with many cathode materials (Hossain, 1995; Murata, Izuchi, Yoshihasa, 2000). The literature will hereinafter be organized in its relation to: 1.The interaction of battery systems with UAVs 2.The mechanisms of a lithium ion cell 3.The development of solid polymer electrolytes for batteries 4.Peukert s Law and its application to lithium polymer technology These four concepts together will cover the groundwork for studying the electrochemistry of and creating a mathematical model for a lithium ion battery used in an unmanned aerial vehicle. • 38. Russian Revolution And The Soviet Revolution For over three hundred years, Russia had been controlled by an autocratic government known as the tsarist regime. This empire was ruled by a series of tsars who had absolute dictatorship over the country. (BBC, 2014). From around the time of Peter the Great s reign, the empire began to impose its will on the people with absolute disregard for their lives and liberty. This incorporation of force caused repression and unrest amongst the people and the Russian Revolution was essentially an outburst from this. (Columbia Encyclopedia, n.d). The Russian Revolution consisted of two separate strikes in 1917, the first of which overthrew the imperial government and the second strike which placed the Bolshevik party in power. The Russian Revolution evidently brought a drastic transformation to the government, society and economy of Russia. The communist party who took power over Russia did evidently improve the economy and reshape the military forces which proved vital for Russia in WW2. (Quizlet, 2015). Overall, the Russian Revolution was beneficial to the country s development. Today, in modern history we credit Vladimir Leninfor the Revolution s succession. However, many people forget to acknowledge the role played by Leon Trotskywho stood by Lenin s side throughout the Revolution. The Three Levels Of Standardness In English The three levels of standardness in English are formal standard English, informal standard /mainstream English, and vernacular English (Wolfram Schilling, 2016). Based in written language, formal standard English is greatly enforced in formal institutions such as schools and is codified in English grammar texts. It is resistant to change and only used in formal written or spoken language (Wolfram Schilling, 2016). Informal standard English exists on a continuum in which speakers are judged to be more or less standard. Without their permission, the DNA samples were used to study topics that are considered taboo within the Havasupai tribe such as mental illness, migration, and inbreeding. Researchers only received consent for using the samples to study diabetes, or that is what the tribe members were told. Another issue raised in this case was migration studies, which is a topic that concerns may tribes because the scientific evidence based on their genetic research may go against certain tribal beliefs. Each tribe has their own beliefs based on their origin and migration studies may cause these tribes trouble. Scientists may be messing around with tribal history in the name of science. This would, without a doubt, raise ethical concerns. Stigmatism of the tribe was another issue raised in this case. Measuring the interbreeding coefficient causes harm and distress to the tribal community. During this study, researchers gained illegal access to medical records. Researchers did not have permission to access the medical records from the tribal officials or the clinical administrators. This is an invasion of privacy. It is also important to note that even though individuals within the study were not named, naming the tribe risked the identification of these individuals. In a small community, it is not hard to figure out who someone is based on genetic information that was released. Rather than focusing on the trade opportunities, more and more policymakers concerned themselves with the land expansion of the British colonies. The Supreme Court s nine Justices attempt to sort out what is, and what is not constitutional. The best known power of the Supreme Court is judicial review. Judicial review is the power of the courts to determine whether acts of congress and executive are in accord with the U.S. Constitution. This is not technically found within the text of the Constitution itself, but the court established this doctrine in the case of Marbury v. Madison. In 1803 during Thomas Jefferson s presidency, the Supreme Court of the U.S. was asked to decide the case of Marbury v. Madison. The case presented a monumental clash that gave the federal courts the power to determine the constitutionality of actions by the president and congress. Analyzing all of the legal and historical ramification, Chief Justice John Marshall devised a solution for deciding the case. The dueling religious ideologies seen in Shakespeare s The Merchant of Venice serve as the cornerstones not only of the character s arguments during the trial at the end of the play, but of the definitions of the character s own self perceptions. Shylock, the play s villain and the most prominent of the play s three Jewish characters, employs his religious identity in defining his conception of masculinity, connecting his perception of what it means to be male with his profession, which he is allowed to practice due to the tenants of his Jewish faith. This economically defined perception of his own masculinity becomes Shylocks undoing, as the play shows the slow decline of his economic fortune, which comes to represent a kind of...
