biological consequences of such arousal were first identified by Selye (1956) as the General
Adaptation Syndrome. Selye noted t h a t a principal characteristic of this response is an elevation
in cortisollevel. As a result of this early work and of more recent laboratory based research, cortisol
is now often regarded a s a stresshormone and as an objective marker of stress (Baum et al., 1982).

Verification Of Motion Lab
Verification of Newton s 2nd Law of Motion
Introduction The objective of this lab was to test Newton s 2nd law of motion, which states that
the acceleration of an object is proportional to the sum of forces acting on it and inversely
proportional to its mass. This was done by connecting a cart to a hook with a string and using a
smart pulley to measure the acceleration of varying masses on the hook as it falls down. System
mass remains constant. A free body diagram and applying Newton s 2nd Law yields the following
relationship:
Where mass 1 is the mass of the cart and the weights it contains, while mass 2 is the hook and the
weights it holds. Thus the goal is to record data that follows this equation; as more masses are
added to the hook, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A smart pulley is clamped onto the side of the table and connected to a computer to sync with
Capstone. In Capstone, select the device as Photogate with Pulley. Set up a position vs time
graph to record data for. Attach a string to the cart, over the smart pulley, and latch it onto a 5g
hook to the side of the table. Obtain four weights: two 20g, one 50g, and one 100g. While
keeping the cart in place, keep one 20g weight on the hook and the remainder in the cart. Start
recording data from the smart pulley and release the cart so that it will slowly slide towards the
edge of the table. Grab the cart before it hits the pulley and stop recording data. Reset the cart s
position to 50 cm away from the edge. Repeat this process for the following masses on the hook:
40g (two 20g weights), 70g (one 20g weight and a 50g weight), 100g (just the 100g weight), and
170g (one 20g, 50g, and 100g). Keep the remainder weights on the cart. Be careful with the cart at
higher masses on the hook, as it will move quickly. Once the trials are completed, create quadratic
fits for the recorded data on Capstone. Make sure to remove unwanted data, such as the initial
motionless state of the cart and the adrupt halt of its motion. The acceleration of the system is two
times the value of the A constant in the curve fit; record this and do this for all trials.

Case 27 Southwest Airlines
1.0Summary of Southwest Airlines: Does LUV Last?* First time in history, Southwest Airlines
had its LUV for customers questioned. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) levied a
record $10.2 million fine on Southwest Airlines. They accuse them after missing mandatory
safety checks of flying 117 planes on nearly 60,000 flights between June 18, 2006, and March
14, 2007. Both the FAA and Southwest testified. FAA officials were blamed for being too close to
the airline and being careless in their regulatory duties. Safety was not compromised by the missed
inspections; a tiny section of the plane s skin had missed being inspected. The cracks in that section
would not have led to any terrible accident. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unions were becoming more aggressive in communicating their frustration, in contrast to earlier
days when differences of opinion were resolved more politely and peacefully. On 2001, ramp
workers picketed near company headquarters with signs that read Record Profits Empty Pickets .
They complained that staff shortages, combined with Southwest s record passenger loads and its
drive to improve on time performance, meant that they had to lift more bags and had to do so more
quickly, which put them at risk of injury. Though on July 2002, first time in the company history,
Southwest s mechanics union asked federal mediators to intervene to break a contract deadlock
over pay. While the company was nowhere near a strike, the incident clearly signaled the strains
appearing in employee relations. The company was also engaged without much success in a
contract renegotiation with flight attendants. July 2003, a group of flight attendants staged a
demonstration at the headquarters, carrying signs stating Spread the LUV and handing out cards to
travelers that read Give our flight attendants a break . The move was an expression of frustration
over management s idea of increasing the flight attendants work hours. Workers who had been
working hard to boost the productivity of the company were not seeing much return from profit

Civil War Feed Quotes
Book Notes #1 1.)Computers were all outside the body. They carried them around outside of
them, in their hands, like if you carried your lungs in a briefcase and opened it to breathe. (10.2)
Analysis: This quote was when Titus saw a few old computers which he thought were weird. This
was meant to show that he was used to not see computers and them being inside his head. Also, it
shows that he thinks it would be hard to live without the feed in his head show. 2.)That s one of the
great things about the feed which you can be super smart without ever working. Everyone is super
smart now. You can look things up automatic, like science and history, like if you want to know
which battles of the Civil War George Washington fought in and shit. (10.3)

we all know they control everything. I mean, it s not great, because who knows what evil shit
they re up to. (10.6) Analysis: This is showing that the corporation that owns the feed knows
everything that they know which could be a possible problem because that grants them so much
power over the people. 4.)We watched the sea move around. It was dead, but colorful. (34.1 2)
Analysis: Titus saying this about the sea shows that environment that they live in is polluted and
not much wildlife is living anymore. This shows that the earth s ecosystem has degraded over the
years. 5.)The mall was really busy, there were a lot of crowds there. They were buying all this
stuff, like the inflatable houses for their kids, and the dog massagers, and the tooth extensions that

Pros And Cons Of Neutral Germany
My fellow citizens, I would like to thank you again for taking your time to research these topics to
better the knowledge of the everyday person in these great united states. After seeing all the
evidence on how this war will affect our nation and military, we have seen that if we remain neutral
we will certainly make more enemies and that will lead to trouble in our economy, our foreign
relations, and our own American moral. The Society of Royal Britains has brought forth to our
attention the the Zimmerman telegram was intercepted and stated that if we remain neutral
Germany will form an alliance with Mexico to reclaim their land which is now currently Texas. We
must act hastily in our decision for the future of America. The Friends of Germany

However, the actual school system was also a problem for Coates. When describing his dilemma
between street skills and education, he says: If the streets shackled up [his] right leg, the schools
shackled up [his] left. Fail to comprehend the streets and you gave up your body now. But fail to
comprehend the school and you gave up your body later (Coates 25). The way in which Coates
describes the shackle and giving up one s body creates a prison like connotation for school. He
emphasizes on the necessity of balancing one s schooling with educationof the streets in order to
survive. In fact, Coates explains how There was nothing sanctified about the laws of the
streets...But the laws of the schools were aimed at something distant and vague (Coates 25). As
schools have to cater to the needs of all of its students, this restricted education inevitably creates a
generalized and vague curriculum aimed at the middle class. In order to combat this insipidity,

Teenagers And The Young Adult Chart
Teenagers are the most perceptive individuals in every society they are just learning and
experiencing the real world without yet developing the mask and filter of adults; they see things
how they are, and they say things the way they are. They still have the innate curiosity of children
without the apathy that seems so rampant among those who actually have the power to change.
This is why it is so important to know how teenagers view the world, because they will be making
up the world in a few decades. There is no better way to know how they think than by examining
the literature they read.
Over the past few years, dystopian novels have topped the young adult charts. It is easy to just
write off the similarities between teenage aimed novels as just a standard story writing formula
for making money. However, by looking deeper into what these similarities really mean, we can
learn that these stories are similar for very important reasons. As Utopian scholar Lyman Tower
Sargent s states, It is particularly important that we understand the dreams and nightmares that are
directed at children and young adults (Hintz Ostry, 234). First, we need to take a look at what
dystopian fictions are, by definition. According to Aristotle, author of the Poetics, all forms of art
perform mimesis. Epic poetry and tragedy, as also comedy, dithyrambic poetry, and most pipe
playing and lyre playing, are all, viewed as a whole, modes of imitation (Aristotle) This concept of

Invasive Species Project
I will be doing my project on invasive species. Invasive Species are non native creatures who can
cause harm to the environment, the ecosystem, and humans. Infestations happen all around the
globe, many times every day. In fact, 20 30% of all species cause problems every single day. My
blog will contain facts, prevention, what invasive speciesdo, how they got there in the first place,
research, and the harm that they cause to everything around them.
First, I will be informing you about invasive species. Some invasive species do not cause much
harm, due to the fact they re alien to the place. They aren t adapted to the environment. A way they
could start becoming invasive, if they dominate over indigenous creatures already living in this

Latino Voters And Hispanic Voters
There were 3,427 voters from the 62% in the city of Los Angeles that were selected for the
survey in June 5, 2001(Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). The result showed that there were
racial preference in the voting patterns for the mayoral race, where 82% of Latino voters
supported the Latino candidate Villaraigosa, 79% of black voters supported the white candidate
Hahn and 58% of whites voted for Hahn (Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). Delgadillo won the
city attorney race receiving the majority support from the Latino voters and black voters
(Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). White voters who crossed over to vote for a Latino
candidate voted based on the issue and position that the candidate was running on, but for Latino
voters who voted for the white candidate, the context of the race mattered less (Abrajano, Nagler,
Alverez, 2005). In the spatial model, voter s ideology had a positive significance in both races
(Abrajano, Nagler, Alverez, 2005). The more liberal the voters in the mayor race were, increased
the chances that they would vote for the Latino candidate while in the city attorney race the more
conservative the voter were the more likely they would vote for the Latino candidate (Abrajano,
Nagler, Alverez, 2005). Matsubayashi and Ueda (2010) analyzed whether white voters used
candidate race as a votingcues in an electionbetween a white and Black candidate. The data were

Acceptance In The Scarlet Ibis
Acceptance is a basic principle taught at a young age. Ever since birth, our parents and teachers
have told us acceptance is a positive thing, and to obtain it from another person we must first
accept them along with ourselves. James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis is an exemplary illustration
validating the idea of taking the first steps toward acceptance. The story depicts a boy struggling
throughout his life, only to die due to his brother s own pride. A reader could easily infer the
theme of The Scarlet Ibisto be about an excess of pride, but it can be argued an excess of pride is
not the only theme. The contents of the story would suggest it is also a storyof acceptance. This
becomes unambiguous when the reader becomes cognizant of the fact that the narrator never truly
accepted Doodle, nor did Doodle himself. In The Scarlet Ibis, the scarlet ibis and Doodle both
display symbolic similarities in their endeavor to be accepted.
Acceptance, or rather lack thereof, can be found in Doodle and the scarlet ibis as they were
discriminated due to being lethargic and frailness. Seeing as Doodle is lethargic, the narrator
plots to kill Doodle as he was possibly not all there (Hurst 345). Doodle is also especially frail,
not being able to get too excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired and that he must always be treated
gently. Consequently, the narrator uses his delicateness against him by deliberately participating in
activities that would force Doodle to reach physical

City Of God Cinematography Essay
The used of cinematography and camera movement is hands down one of the most, if not the
most important thing of a good film. I believe that they are two of the things that make for a
great film. So when asked to compare a scene from Raising Arizona and City of God, I had to
choose two of my most iconic scenes in filmhistory, the chicken chase from City of God and the
diaper heist from Raising Arizona. In two of the most iconic scenes in movie history, it is only
natural that a slew of camera techniques are used to tell the story of each particular scene, most of
which are some of the same methods. One of the most noticeable parallels between the films is the
camera lens and the use of shallow focus. Shallow focus is the main source of camera... Show more

While the use of shallow focus is something that is conspicuous throughout both of the scenes,
Raising Arizona also feature a zoom shot when the camera focus switches subjects to the diaper
package that has been dropped. A portion of framing is also a difference within each scene,
though the framing is mostly level, Raising Arizona also uses a canted framing when shooting
the running within the street. A high angle of framing is used in City of God, during the
shooting scene. This is used to display more people on the screen and heighten the sense of
panic. Crane shot and whip pan are also used in the scene of City of God, given the amount of
individuals in that scene; whip pan is used quite a bit to get everyone in the shot. A crane is used
at the beginning for parts such as walking down stairs. In City of God, a difference in speed rate
is also a noticeable variance among the scenes. While all of these are slight differences, the most
obvious deviations in technique are the camera movement. For Raising Arizona, the use of tracking
shot and tilt are used specifically for the running scenes. While, in City of God, almost the entire
scene is shot using a Steadicam, noted by the tremulousness of the camera during all of the moving

For my observation, I choose to visit the area of the Stanislaus National Forrest. I had wanted to

402 square miles. I could see some of the damage and affects, even as of this visit a few years
after it happened. Surprisingly, in some areas along the many miles and ranges we traveled to
stop, some looked even more burned out than others did, then some areas looked untouched where
some areas almost next door on another turn seemed destroyed. Many areas along these mountains
were eerily quiet. It felt chilling and creepy. Yet, it was peaceful and still I could find beauty in

Assumption of Risk
In the Dillworth v. Gambardella, 776 F. Supp. 170 (D. Vt. 1991) is a case where the

on the grounds that the court made an error in instructing the jury as to the Vermont Sports
Injury Statute and its relation to the doctrine of assumption of risk and the applications to this case.

This inheritance of assumptions of risk and if the action is applicable to the case is a question of

The jury in the Dillworth matter applied the assumption of risks to all participants in sports, not just
the operators of ski resort. In regards to dangerous activities and sports in general the court stated
that
when a primary assumption of the risk exists there is no liability to the plaintiff because there is no
negligence on the part of the defendant to begin with; the danger to the plaintiff is not one which
the defendant is required to extinguish or warn about. Having no duty to begin with, there is no
breach of duty to constitute negligence, showing that even other participants not just those in
charge of the activity can not be negligent for risks that are inherent to the activity. This assumption
of risk has a broader appeal than just skiing and was stated that A person who takes part in any

Literary Analysis Of Spoon River Anthology By Edgar Lee...
3. Literary Analysis Edgar Lee Masters is best known for his book Spoon River Anthology.
Spoon River Anthology is considered by some critics, like Ernest Earnest, to be one of the
greatest poetry collections in American literature. One of the most popular poems in Spoon
River Anthology is Lucinda Matlock. In Lucinda Matlock, Masters concocts a fictional
character, who is based on his grandmother, that tells readers from beyond the grave about the
beauty and the pain that she faced in her life. The paradox of having beauty and pain at the same
time contributes to the theme of not letting your sorrows get the best of you and loving life for
what life is. Throughout the entire poem, Lucinda Matlock is talking to the readers about her
life. Lucinda starts off with explaining her life before she is married. She is a very social
person. She went to dances and played snap out. Then the poem transitions to when Lucinda
meets Davis, her future husband. She tells readers how they married and lived together for
seventy years. They have twelve children together, and Lucinda outlives eight of them. She then
goes on to describe how she spends most of the days of her life. She talks about her domestic
chores and her life outdoors. She says she enjoys her life. Lucinda goes onto describe her death.
She feels like her life has been complete, and she can peacefully die. The poem transitions again to
Lucinda saying how she does not like it when people focus on negatives aspects in their

Emily Dickinson Poetry Comparison Essay
Poetry Comparison Dickinson uses capitalization and punctuation to set the mood and convey
emotion in her writing. My life closed twice before its close (Life) by Emily Dickinson compares
death to separation from a loved one and wonders if immortality will be just as painful (Owens

by Emily Dickinsonis a poignant description of the feelings of loneliness and despair that come

Tone is the emotional attitude toward the reader or toward the subject implied by a literary
work (Owens 1385). The tone of Life is wondering and painful. We can see this through the use
of the words hopeless (5) , unveil (3), and conceive (5). The tone of Slant is despair and
loneliness. This is shown though specific word choices such as oppresses (2), affliction (10),
and death (15). The author s purpose is his or her aim, or goal (Owens 1383). Dickinson s
purpose in Life was to compare death and separation. Dickinson s purpose in Slant was to
describe sad feelings that come and go in life. Life is written with a biblical worldview because
the lines Parting is all we know of heaven / and all we need of hell (7,8) allude to the verse Then
they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life (NIV, Matthew 25.46).
This demonstrates that all we know of heaven is the parting we experience when people we love
pass away, and all we need of hell is to stay far away from it. Light is Christian because in the line

The Machine Of Death By Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo And...
Death is usually portrayed as both grim and darkly humorous in many pieces of literature and
short stories is one of the forms that allows writers to do both. Machine of Death is a two book
anthology series of stories, one page cartoons and illustrations edited by Ryan North, Matthew
Bennardo and David Malki. These were written and drawn by them and several other authors and
illustrators by conveying their own take on how they believe their characterwould handle it if they
were forewarned and forearmed of their own demise. These stories are varied by genre, style,
approach and technique but they all have two things in common. They all feature the titled
Machine of Death which is a fictional device created by the editors (and a fictional team of
scientists and engineers) that allows any of the characters involved to pay a fee (it varies from
ten to twenty dollars depending on the story), stick their finger in a slot to have their blood
taken and a card pops out to reveal exactly how they die and they are never wrong. However, if
anyone expected it all to be as simple as that, this is where the added twist that ties everything
together is used. These cards only reveal the method of how they die. For example, if a card said
CANCER or STARVATION , that is all the information they receive. It does not state how these
circumstances come to be or exactly when they die and that is where the existential crises of it all
comes into play. These stories explain how

Media Reaction on Immigration
Immigration issues are not issues only encountered here in the United States, but are also issues
faced throughout the world. There have been numerous of debates on the issues of immigration in
the United States. The most controversial was the passing of a new bill in Arizona. Governor Jan
Brewer passed into Arizona legislature the SB1070, which became very controversial because of
the demands that this law was enforcing. This controversial bill gives any Arizona law enforcement

This law was sending a very strong message to all of the illegal aliens living in Arizona. The SB
1070 was written deliberately with aggressive measures intended to promote to the estimated
460,000 illegal aliens to go home (About, 2011). The issue with some parts of the bill was that it
was racially profiling, and it promoted discrimination against mainly immigrants. The federal
judge also stopped the section of the law that made it a crime for any for any foreign resident
living in the state of Arizona to carry immigration paperwork at all times. In addition, the judge
also stopped the part where it would make it a crime for any illegal or foreign resident living in
the state of Arizona to solicit, perform, or apply for work. This gave illegal aliens living in state
of Arizona a big relief to know that those main parts of the bill were stopped, giving them the
advantage to continue to move forward with their lives instead of worrying about getting deported.
Many people have their own opinions when relating in regard to illegal immigrants hurting the
United States economy. There have been numerous of economist say there is no doubt the U.S.

Economic History of Israel and Saudi Arabia Israel and Saudi Arabia are two countries in close
proximity to each other, yet seem to be different in almost every metric. Saudi Arabia has a $744
Billion GDP, while Israel only $290 Billion (The World Bank), yet when breaking the GDP into
GDP per capita, Saudi Arabia lags behind Israel at with a GDP per capita of $25, 961 whereas
Israel is at $36,051. Israel and Saudi Arabia both became economic powerhouses of the Middle
East, while remaining vastly different from each other in terms of their institutions. Their histories
are unique, illustrating various ways a country can develop. Israel as a country is quite new, only

Soon after Israel declared independence, all of the pseudo governmental Jewish institutions that

However, due to the state of its economy as well the more socialist leanings of the main political

Following its founding, Israel s economy was jumpstarted through a large amount of foreign aid as

Perseverance In The Film Gladiator
The opening of the film starts out with a fight scene. I immediately understood the movie was
going to be based on sacrifice, battles and a possibility of a war. Throughout the film I got a
message that the director of the movie wanted the audience to perceive. Which was about
courageous and perseverance. Gladiatoris filmthat is going to encourage individuals to persevere
through life obstacles. The film will teach individual the importance in believing in yourself and
one having courage. What was amazing about the main character Maximus courageous and
perseverance is that he was able to instill those characteristics to people around him. That is
wonderful trait to have. Because Maximus was able to instill courageous and will for his people

How Did Great Britain Grow During The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was the movement in which machines changed people s everyday way of
life and the methods to manufacture goods. Before this time everyone had to spend long hours of
hand labor to even do the simplest tasks. The time period for the Industrial Revolution was around
1760 1850. There were many major improvements to the way people lived during this time such as:
agriculture, textiles, transportation, economics, and socialization. The Industrial Revolutionwas
sparked by Great Britain because they were the most well equipped in many ways. The British
Empire was one of the largest in the world during the Industrial Revolution. Their empire
expanded across almost the whole world; because of this they had access to almost all of the
natural resources on the planet. Since their empire was so large and they had nearly unlimited
access to whatever resources they needed, there were never any shortages in the... Show more

The advancement of the textile industry was very important in the development of Britain s
industrialization. With the use of new machines and the assembly line it was easier to create large
amounts of anything in less time and for less money. James Watt helped create the steam engine.
The steam engine was a great source of power because it came from burning coal. Coal was
highly abundant and easily accessible for the British. This helped with the cotton industry. John
Kay was also very important player in cotton innovations. He created the flying shuttle. Before this
invention it took four people to keep up with one cotton loom, and it took ten people to prepare
yarn for one weaver. This invention made it so that not as many people had to help with weaving.
This essentially doubled a weaver s production of cloth. Cotton imports increased from 2.5 million
pounds at the start of the Industrial Revolution to 366 million pounds by the end of

Principles And Tactics Of Negotiation
Being genuine and sincere in the communication with others is one of the most important strategies
available for resolving a conflict. As the article entitled Principles and Tactics of Negotiation (2007)
mentions, most of the basic principles of negotiation were learned before kindergarten. Be polite.
Be honest. Be considerate (p. 102). The same goes for all interactions involving a conflict.
Collectively, both sincerity and honesty are common expectations in nearly all forms of
negotiation, but is especially important in relationships of business. For example, the most people
wouldn t be interested in negotiating contracts that involves financial goals or money if a negotiator
has a poor reputation in doing business. Alternatively, if a negotiator has a good reputation and the
perceptionof them is sincere, their business is likely to benefit from the influx of new client. A
really good reference for this is the business of veterinarian medicine.
Although every animal clinic relies on money to keep their doors open in order to continue to treat
animals in distress, veterinarians still have a responsibility to treat pets with sincerity and
compassion, in addition to providing appropriate medical care. When a client brings their pet in for
euthanasia, for instance, many veterinarians and supporting staff demonstrate a cold demeanor
since they do not want to show express their emotions while at work. However, this behavior can
be perceived as uncaring or insincere,

The Mood For Love, Urban Space, And Post Modernity
In The Mood For Love, Urban Space, and Post Modernity Wong Kar Wai s Fa Yeung Nin Wa
(2000), translated to In The Mood For Love, is an opening to the new millennium and homage to
past genres of filmmaking. Deeply rooted in emotion and nostalgia, In The Mood For Love reads
as a waltz throughout the entirety of the film. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan
moves to the city with his wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives
in his apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his
loneliness and marital strife. Ironically, Ms. Chan s husband is also often away from business, and
both realize their partners are having an affair with their respective spouses.
Su and Chow begin a fantasy relationship with one another, pretending to be each other s spouse
reenacting how their partners could have gotten together. The protagonists constantly push each
other s boundaries of propriety; their combined desire for affection is an extension of the
abandonment they feel from their spouses. Simultaneously a simulacrum of love and a reflection of
genuine yearning, they imitate a relationship and inevitably fall for one another, but fear that they ll
stoop to the infidelity of their partners. Wong Kar Wai s film is a statement about individual
realities and how people reflect on an unattainable past, as well as an exploration of physical and
emotional confinement that accompany abandonment. In The Mood For Love is a

Essay On Art History 6k
The item that I chose for my Art History 6K Project is a ceramic plate made in Egypt, or more
specifically, Fayyoum. The label accompanying the art piece included a year, 2007, which I
assume is the date in which the piece was found. The plate is made of clay, hardened through heat,
and finished with a glossy sealer. The colorscheme of the plate is very bright and colorful giving
off a happy vibe. The ceramic plate itself is an off white color with splashes of blue and green
throughout. Due to the bright color composition, it must ve been used during celebrations of some
sort. Despite not able to feel the plate, I assumed the surface to be rough because the plate was

It could ve been purposefully done, but judging from how uneven and blotchy the color is, it
makes more sense to assume that the area had been worn out. If this is the case then what was
placed there that could have created that mark? And what was the purpose of the brown square in
the middle of the plate? The outline around the square has a lot of depth so I inferred that the
outline was created not through paint but was rather carved out. I thought that the plate could
ve been used for food, however, if it was then there wouldn t be a need for the brown square in
the middle. In general, what was this ceramic plate used for if not for food? Another thing that I
found interesting was that in the back of the plate, there are four moon shaped platform to help
raise the plate. The platform was placed in the middle and in the formation so that it looked like
the corners of a square. I think the reason why the ceramic plate is raised is because it was
probably used to hold something important. This work of art relates to a broader religious context
because the calligraphy used on it reminds me of the calligraphy used in the Qur an that we

Sociological Analysis Of Goodfellas

The film is set in Brooklyn New York during the mid nineteen fifties through the late eighties. This

The film begins with the main character Henry Hill saying As far back as I can remember, I

Neuroticism, Conscientiousness And Conflict Style
Abstract The aim of this study is to examine neuroticism, conscientiousness and conflict style in
association to workplace bullying victimization. 132 Malaysian working adults from various
organizations will be recruited for this study using purposive sampling. Participants were asked to
fill up the personality shortened Big Five Personality questionnaire to measure (neuroticism,
conscientiousness) and conflict style questionnaire (a higher score would indicate more dominant
conflict styles) , followed by the Negative Acts Questionnaire Revised (a higher average score
represents more frequent and intense workplace bullyingvictimization). Multiple regressions
analysis will be used to test the correlation between the predictor and criterion variables. The
researcher hypothesizes that neuroticism, conscientiousness and conflict style will be significant
predictors of workplace bullying victimization. Neuroticism, Conscientiousness and Conflict Style
on Workplace Bullying Victimization in the Malaysian Working Population Workplace bullying
has been identified as a crucial work problem in the work environment because it causes more
stress than all other kinds of work related stress put together (Einarsen, Hoel, Zapf, Cooper, 2011).

A Beautiful Young Woman Steps Down From The Horse Drawn...
A beautiful young woman steps down from the horse drawn carriage, one foot touching down
onto the rough ground outside her second home. As she looks around, she cannot help soaking in
all the wonderful scenery surrounding her. The fabulously large trees too tall to climb perfectly

this young woman home. She feels as though she has been absent for too long. Everyone looks so
different, and she feels they must think the same of her. She was just a young lady of thirteen
when she was sent away in hiding, but now she is seventeen and has matured into a young woman.
She moves slowly taking her first few steps, and approaches the handsome young man in front of
her. Their eyes connect with one another, and the connection is not to be broken despite every
distraction surrounding the two. They are both remembering their younger days. The days of a boy

Stylistic And Narrative Features In Homer s The Odyssey
Discuss the ways that stylistic and narrative features are used in The Odyssey to construct
interesting and diverse female characters. Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to construct
interesting and diverse female characters in his epic poem The Odyssey . Characters such as
Penelope, Athene, Circe and Calypso are developed into varied and stimulating characters
through the use of various stylistic and narrative features. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic
similes to depict Penelope as a diverse and interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a
brief look into the inner thoughts and feelings of Penelope whilst also performing the task of
creating rhythm during the poem. Homer writes Her mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at
bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their cunning ring around him for the finish. This epic
simile is used by Homer to better understand the torment and fear felt by Penelope at the
possibility of having to unwittingly marry one of her suitors. Homer also uses epithets to describe
Penelope s personality further, often refereeing to her as Wise Penelope , cautious or careful
Penelope . This offers the audience a general and brief reminder of the type of character traits
Penelope possesses. Epithets are often used by Homer to profoundly highlight the importance of a
character within the story line and to catch the attention of the reader. Through these literary
techniques, Homer creates an interesting and

conflict. In 2002, the United States had 167 UAVs and over 7,000 just 10 years later. Although
UAVs do not require a human in the cockpit, they are still controlled by a human who makes flight
and targeting decisions. However, technology is leading developers to push the envelope and
develop weapon systems that have the ability to act without human input or intervention, in all
domains of warfare, which like the airplane in WWI, could have dramatic implications for the
character of future wars.
In 2010, the Department of Defense said that autonomy was the single greatest theme for advancing
modern unmanned systems. General Robert Cone, Director of the U.S. Army s Training and
Doctrine Command, stated, the Army is evaluating the possibility of replacing twenty five percent
of manpower in Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) with robotics and unmanned systems. Over 30
nations already operate human supervised

Public Participation At San Diego Unified District School...
Public participation is an important aspect of any community and benefits realized from inculcating
it in the system of any public setup treats any possible problem. Some of the core merits any public
institution produces is enabling the community to participate in decision making and planning. For
this reason, they are more likely to interact with established mechanisms. Moreover, apart from
helping bring about a sense of community, public participation enables institutions to set goals and
objectives that suit that long term service delivery. San Diego Unified district school is among the
many educational centers in the United States that have embraced this useful method to warrant
continuous progress. Therefore, they recently organized a school board meetingon 27th September
2016 to provide an update on what was going on in the institution as well give the public an
opportunity to discuss their concerns and contributions. This paper analyzes the nature and role of
public participation in uniting the community and institutions that serve its members. Evidently,
although the meeting had some hitches in terms of short notices and low ethnic representation, it
was successful because the community and the institution discussed agendaand non agenda matters
and settled for proposals to increase engagement in the future.
The meeting was intended to highlight key issues as stipulated in the agenda. These were
recognizing achievements of Maya Salameh who won a national poetry

Analysis Of George Orwell s Politics And The English Language
Political press can play such crucial role in the viewpoints of citizens; with an impact like this, it
is essential to have explicit information. George Orwell s 1946 essay Politics and the English
Language he argues that Politicians have manipulated the English language, thus making their
points euphemistic. He explains that these that, ...it is broadly true that political writing is bad
writing and results to a politician being unconscious of what he is saying (Orwell). Even though
this essay was written in 1946, Orwell s six basic rules are still broken. For instance, Donald Trump
s immigration speech is prime example of what Orwell would conclude as nonsense . The speech
breaks the elementary rules by using unfamiliar phrases,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Orwell does not agree with this technique; he strongly emphasizes to Never use a metaphor, simile,
or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print (Orwell). Trump incorporates the
phrase, I always say Trojan horse (Trump). The politician uses this metaphor to adapt to his
opinion on immigrants; however, Orwell includes the key idea that, A newly invented metaphor
assists thought by evoking a visual image, while on the other hand a metaphor which is
technically dead (Orwell). Metaphors have been constantly twisted to aid a concept that the
speaker or writer is trying to make clear. This leads to the politician, inventing phrases for
themselves (Orwell). Another metaphor Trump presents in his speech is We re like the big bully
that keeps getting beat up (Trump). This metaphor is a key example of what Orwell would deduce
as pieces of clumsiness . Adding in metaphors can save effort, yet only benefits the speaker and not
the listener. Behind this twisted phrasing, it makes the Politician look like he is not initially
interested in what he is saying. Orwell stresses strongly, that metaphors are used to created imagery
but in this case it causes

My Brother s Life
I couldn t believe it when the tomato red rental car pulled into our gravel driveway. He s here, I
shouted, racing outside to welcome my nephew who had driven across the country to visit us.
After greeting him with hugs, we watched as Evan s eyes took in our cabin, nestled in the woods.
So this is White Pines, he said. At that moment I wished I could crawl inside Evan s head and see
what his first impressions were.
If I were a betting woman, I d bet my life that curiosity had forced my nephew into visiting. We d
invited my brother s family for a visit several times over the years, but they had never come.
Eventually our families had grown up. But as my sons and their cousins stayed in touch, their
cousins seemed curious about the kind of lifestyle we led snuggled in the mountains. I believe Evan
finally had to check it out for himself before life s obligations made it impossible.
Not only had my children and their cousins grown up on different sides of the country, but world s
apart when it came to lifestyles. My brother led a traditional life, which offered a beautiful home,
the latest clothing styles, and security; while our family had chosen a meager lifestyle, unlike
anything my brother s kids could imagine.
And while two of our kids had left the nest and blessed us with grandchildren, we felt honored that
two of our adult children shared our home. They worked and slept in the attic, while my husband
and I slept in

Semester Exam Print Analysis
For my first semester exam print, I used an old photograph of a Coca Cola sign from my
summer assignment. This print was inspired and based off the life of my grandfather, who
worked at at Coca Cola as a route salesman for thirty years, up until his retirement. My grandfather
s job single handedly support The first semester exam print has been my favorite project by far, as
I deeply enjoyed getting to experiment with darkroom techniques that I had not tried before. After
finding the correct lighting and time exposure, and getting a good contrast of lights and darks in
my print, I decided to add a more dramatic emphasis to the photo. I achieved this by utilizing the
Halo clementines netting and by experimenting with selective developing. After

Rhodospirillum Rubrum Research Paper
Rhodospirillum rubrum is a gram negative, mesophilic proteobacteria; it has the ability to grow
best at moderate temperatures (25 30В®C) and is one of many bacteria responsible for nitrogen
fixation. Nitrogen fixation is the chemical processes by which atmospheric nitrogen is assimilated
into organic compounds, especially by certain microorganisms as part of the nitrogen cycle
(Dictionary.com, 2015). R. rubrum specifically uses nitrogenase to convert atmospheric nitrogen
gas to ammonia. It is a spiral shaped (spirilla) bacteriaand is polarly flagellated and therefore
motile. R. rubrum like many other purple non sulfur bacteria are found in more natural settings.
They are particularly found in pond water, mud or a sewage sample which is perfect for its growth
type (Withers, 2000) (Biorealm, 2011).
Rhodospirillum rubrum is also a facultative anaerobe which means it has the ability to make ATP
by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present, but is capable of switching to alcoholic fermentation or
anaerobic respiration if oxygen is absent. It contains molecules in its chromophore particles called
carotenoid and bacteriochlorophyll (they have an absorption spectra of 800 925 nm) which helps
absorb light and convert it to energy and also gives it its distinct purple red colour under anaerobic
conditions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
from the University of California, and Allen G. Marr studied the effect of light intensity on the
formation of intracytoplasmic membrane in Rhodospirillum rubrum. Cells of Rhodospirillum
rubrum that were grown at low light intensity were found to contain much more internal membrane
than cells grown at high light intensity. These highly purified membranes, known as
chromatophores, grow at low to moderate light intensity and had a constant content of chlorophyll.
The regulation of the chlorophyll content in the cell depends upon the formation of greater or lesser
amounts of membrane which has a constant concentration of chlorophyll (HOLT SC,

Not The Same Song I ve Always Sung
Once again, I found myself weaving in boredom, singing the same song I ve always sung, with
only useless, brainless wolves and mountain lions lying motionless around me. What a boring life
this was, spending my days weaving or practicing magic, never to be visited, always ignored
secluded, empty, without purpose. It had been at least a few centuries since anyone dared to tread
the ground of Aeaea, as this land had become infamous off of the people lost to the witch Circe,
which spread infectiously throughout the people, long ago averting their ships far away from here.
As I already knew, the day would go by without a sound, then a night, then a day, then another night,
then another day. Some immortals had jobs to fulfill, commands to... Show more content on

Nevertheless, after long moments of silence, only filled by my voice echoing throughout the
halls, a group of voices from the entrance cried out my name. Hello, Circe, the voices yelled, we
ask of you to let us take shelter in your hall! Bewildered by the sound of them, not having heard
voice speak to me in what felt to me like an eternity, I swiftly maneuvered to the entranceway; there,
I examined twenty three mortals, one of which stood further back than the others and refused to
join them. Rejuvenated, I let them in, hurriedly preparing a customary feast, with mighty thrones to
sit upon, fine cheese, barely, amber honey, and Pramnian wine. However, before bringing the meal
out, I turned toward the table to see the mortals talking and laughing with each other, sharing their
thoughts and spending time with each other. Stealthily, I grabbed a potion and mixed it into the
meal, in hopes that it would make them forget their homeland. I didn t want them to leave. I didn t
want to be alone again. I didn t want to give up this perfect opportunity to better my existence,
whether or not they were only mortals. Thus, bringing the mixture out to the table, I set it down
next to them and waited. Seemingly pouncing on the sight of food, they immediately began to eat,
devouring every last morsel of it. All the while, I stood and waited for someone to perhaps talk to
me, ask me to do something, give

  • 3. Verification Of Motion Lab Verification of Newton s 2nd Law of Motion Introduction The objective of this lab was to test Newton s 2nd law of motion, which states that the acceleration of an object is proportional to the sum of forces acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass. This was done by connecting a cart to a hook with a string and using a smart pulley to measure the acceleration of varying masses on the hook as it falls down. System mass remains constant. A free body diagram and applying Newton s 2nd Law yields the following relationship: Where mass 1 is the mass of the cart and the weights it contains, while mass 2 is the hook and the weights it holds. Thus the goal is to record data that follows this equation; as more masses are added to the hook, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obtain four weights: two 20g, one 50g, and one 100g. While keeping the cart in place, keep one 20g weight on the hook and the remainder in the cart. Start recording data from the smart pulley and release the cart so that it will slowly slide towards the edge of the table. Grab the cart before it hits the pulley and stop recording data. Reset the cart s position to 50 cm away from the edge. Repeat this process for the following masses on the hook: 40g (two 20g weights), 70g (one 20g weight and a 50g weight), 100g (just the 100g weight), and 170g (one 20g, 50g, and 100g). Keep the remainder weights on the cart. Be careful with the cart at higher masses on the hook, as it will move quickly. Once the trials are completed, create quadratic fits for the recorded data on Capstone. Make sure to remove unwanted data, such as the initial motionless state of the cart and the adrupt halt of its motion. The acceleration of the system is two times the value of the A constant in the curve fit; record this and do this for all trials. Results After 5 trials, the data was shown to be positively ... The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) levied a record $10.2 million fine on Southwest Airlines. They accuse them after missing mandatory safety checks of flying 117 planes on nearly 60,000 flights between June 18, 2006, and March 14, 2007. Both the FAA and Southwest testified. FAA officials were blamed for being too close to the airline and being careless in their regulatory duties. • 9. Teenagers And The Young Adult Chart Teenagers are the most perceptive individuals in every society they are just learning and experiencing the real world without yet developing the mask and filter of adults; they see things how they are, and they say things the way they are. They still have the innate curiosity of children without the apathy that seems so rampant among those who actually have the power to change. This is why it is so important to know how teenagers view the world, because they will be making up the world in a few decades. There is no better way to know how they think than by examining the literature they read. Over the past few years, dystopian novels have topped the young adult charts. It is easy to just write off the similarities between teenage aimed novels as just a standard story writing formula for making money. However, by looking deeper into what these similarities really mean, we can learn that these stories are similar for very important reasons. As Utopian scholar Lyman Tower Sargent s states, It is particularly important that we understand the dreams and nightmares that are directed at children and young adults (Hintz Ostry, 234). First, we need to take a look at what dystopian fictions are, by definition. According to Aristotle, author of the Poetics, all forms of art perform mimesis. • 12. Acceptance In The Scarlet Ibis Acceptance is a basic principle taught at a young age. Ever since birth, our parents and teachers have told us acceptance is a positive thing, and to obtain it from another person we must first accept them along with ourselves. James Hurst s The Scarlet Ibis is an exemplary illustration validating the idea of taking the first steps toward acceptance. The story depicts a boy struggling throughout his life, only to die due to his brother s own pride. A reader could easily infer the theme of The Scarlet Ibisto be about an excess of pride, but it can be argued an excess of pride is not the only theme. The contents of the story would suggest it is also a storyof acceptance. This becomes unambiguous when the reader becomes cognizant of the fact that the narrator never truly accepted Doodle, nor did Doodle himself. In The Scarlet Ibis, the scarlet ibis and Doodle both display symbolic similarities in their endeavor to be accepted. Acceptance, or rather lack thereof, can be found in Doodle and the scarlet ibis as they were discriminated due to being lethargic and frailness. Seeing as Doodle is lethargic, the narrator plots to kill Doodle as he was possibly not all there (Hurst 345). Doodle is also especially frail, not being able to get too excited, too hot, too cold, or too tired and that he must always be treated gently. Consequently, the narrator uses his delicateness against him by deliberately participating in activities that would force Doodle to reach physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that they are two of the things that make for a great film. So when asked to compare a scene from Raising Arizona and City of God, I had to choose two of my most iconic scenes in filmhistory, the chicken chase from City of God and the diaper heist from Raising Arizona. In two of the most iconic scenes in movie history, it is only natural that a slew of camera techniques are used to tell the story of each particular scene, most of which are some of the same methods. One of the most noticeable parallels between the films is the camera lens and the use of shallow focus. Shallow focus is the main source of camera... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the use of shallow focus is something that is conspicuous throughout both of the scenes, Raising Arizona also feature a zoom shot when the camera focus switches subjects to the diaper package that has been dropped. A portion of framing is also a difference within each scene, though the framing is mostly level, Raising Arizona also uses a canted framing when shooting the running within the street. A high angle of framing is used in City of God, during the shooting scene. This is used to display more people on the screen and heighten the sense of panic. Crane shot and whip pan are also used in the scene of City of God, given the amount of individuals in that scene; whip pan is used quite a bit to get everyone in the shot. A crane is used at the beginning for parts such as walking down stairs. In City of God, a difference in speed rate is also a noticeable variance among the scenes. While all of these are slight differences, the most obvious deviations in technique are the camera movement. • 16. Literary Analysis Of Spoon River Anthology By Edgar Lee... 3. Literary Analysis Edgar Lee Masters is best known for his book Spoon River Anthology. Spoon River Anthology is considered by some critics, like Ernest Earnest, to be one of the greatest poetry collections in American literature. One of the most popular poems in Spoon River Anthology is Lucinda Matlock. In Lucinda Matlock, Masters concocts a fictional character, who is based on his grandmother, that tells readers from beyond the grave about the beauty and the pain that she faced in her life. The paradox of having beauty and pain at the same time contributes to the theme of not letting your sorrows get the best of you and loving life for what life is. Throughout the entire poem, Lucinda Matlock is talking to the readers about her life. Lucinda starts off with explaining her life before she is married. She is a very social person. She went to dances and played snap out. Then the poem transitions to when Lucinda meets Davis, her future husband. She tells readers how they married and lived together for seventy years. They have twelve children together, and Lucinda outlives eight of them. She then goes on to describe how she spends most of the days of her life. She talks about her domestic chores and her life outdoors. She says she enjoys her life. Lucinda goes onto describe her death. She feels like her life has been complete, and she can peacefully die. • 18. The Machine Of Death By Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo And... Death is usually portrayed as both grim and darkly humorous in many pieces of literature and short stories is one of the forms that allows writers to do both. Machine of Death is a two book anthology series of stories, one page cartoons and illustrations edited by Ryan North, Matthew Bennardo and David Malki. These were written and drawn by them and several other authors and illustrators by conveying their own take on how they believe their characterwould handle it if they were forewarned and forearmed of their own demise. These stories are varied by genre, style, approach and technique but they all have two things in common. They all feature the titled Machine of Death which is a fictional device created by the editors (and a fictional team of scientists and engineers) that allows any of the characters involved to pay a fee (it varies from ten to twenty dollars depending on the story), stick their finger in a slot to have their blood taken and a card pops out to reveal exactly how they die and they are never wrong. However, if anyone expected it all to be as simple as that, this is where the added twist that ties everything together is used. These cards only reveal the method of how they die. For example, if a card said CANCER or STARVATION , that is all the information they receive. It does not state how these circumstances come to be or exactly when they die and that is where the existential crises of it all comes into play. These stories explain how ... • 20. Economic History Of Israel And Saudi Arabia Essay Eytan Davidovits Professor Hill Economics 191 20, March 2015 Economic History of Israel and Saudi Arabia Israel and Saudi Arabia are two countries in close proximity to each other, yet seem to be different in almost every metric. Saudi Arabia has a $744 Billion GDP, while Israel only $290 Billion (The World Bank), yet when breaking the GDP into GDP per capita, Saudi Arabia lags behind Israel at with a GDP per capita of $25, 961 whereas Israel is at $36,051. Israel and Saudi Arabia both became economic powerhouses of the Middle East, while remaining vastly different from each other in terms of their institutions. Their histories are unique, illustrating various ways a country can develop. Israel as a country is quite new, only 67 years old. Israel was founded in 1948 after being given to the Jewish people by Great Britain. Soon after Israel declared independence, all of the pseudo governmental Jewish institutions that were set up during the period under British rule, combined to form government departments. There were many major improvements to the way people lived during this time such as: agriculture, textiles, transportation, economics, and socialization. The Industrial Revolutionwas sparked by Great Britain because they were the most well equipped in many ways. The British Empire was one of the largest in the world during the Industrial Revolution. The advancement of the textile industry was very important in the development of Britain s industrialization. With the use of new machines and the assembly line it was easier to create large amounts of anything in less time and for less money. James Watt helped create the steam engine. The steam engine was a great source of power because it came from burning coal. Coal was highly abundant and easily accessible for the British. This helped with the cotton industry. John Kay was also very important player in cotton innovations. He created the flying shuttle. Before this invention it took four people to keep up with one cotton loom, and it took ten people to prepare yarn for one weaver. This invention made it so that not as many people had to help with weaving. This essentially doubled a weaver s production of cloth. • 26. Principles And Tactics Of Negotiation Being genuine and sincere in the communication with others is one of the most important strategies available for resolving a conflict. As the article entitled Principles and Tactics of Negotiation (2007) mentions, most of the basic principles of negotiation were learned before kindergarten. Be polite. Be honest. Be considerate (p. 102). The same goes for all interactions involving a conflict. Collectively, both sincerity and honesty are common expectations in nearly all forms of negotiation, but is especially important in relationships of business. For example, the most people wouldn t be interested in negotiating contracts that involves financial goals or money if a negotiator has a poor reputation in doing business. Alternatively, if a negotiator has a good reputation and the perceptionof them is sincere, their business is likely to benefit from the influx of new client. A really good reference for this is the business of veterinarian medicine. Although every animal clinic relies on money to keep their doors open in order to continue to treat animals in distress, veterinarians still have a responsibility to treat pets with sincerity and compassion, in addition to providing appropriate medical care. When a client brings their pet in for euthanasia, for instance, many veterinarians and supporting staff demonstrate a cold demeanor since they do not want to show express their emotions while at work. The Mood For Love, Urban Space, And Post Modernity In The Mood For Love, Urban Space, and Post Modernity Wong Kar Wai s Fa Yeung Nin Wa (2000), translated to In The Mood For Love, is an opening to the new millennium and homage to past genres of filmmaking. Deeply rooted in emotion and nostalgia, In The Mood For Love reads as a waltz throughout the entirety of the film. Set in 1962 Hong Kong, journalist Chow Mo wan moves to the city with his wife, who is often away on business. He befriends a woman who lives in his apartment complex, Su Li Zhen (referred to Ms. Chan in the film) who mirrors his loneliness and marital strife. Ironically, Ms. Chan s husband is also often away from business, and both realize their partners are having an affair with their respective spouses. Su and Chow begin a fantasy relationship with one another, pretending to be each other s spouse reenacting how their partners could have gotten together. The protagonists constantly push each other s boundaries of propriety; their combined desire for affection is an extension of the abandonment they feel from their spouses. Simultaneously a simulacrum of love and a reflection of genuine yearning, they imitate a relationship and inevitably fall for one another, but fear that they ll stoop to the infidelity of their partners. Wong Kar Wai s film is a statement about individual realities and how people reflect on an unattainable past, as well as an exploration of physical and emotional confinement that accompany abandonment. The plate is made of clay, hardened through heat, and finished with a glossy sealer. The colorscheme of the plate is very bright and colorful giving off a happy vibe. The ceramic plate itself is an off white color with splashes of blue and green throughout. Due to the bright color composition, it must ve been used during celebrations of some sort. In 2700 BC Mesopotamia, the armies of Sumer and Elam went to war. During this first recorded conflict, the bow was the weapon of choice. Over the next 4,700 years, the character of war has changed dramatically with the introduction of new technologies such as iron, steel, and gunpowder. Today the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) is the weapon of choice. San Diego Unified district school is among the many educational centers in the United States that have embraced this useful method to warrant continuous progress. Therefore, they recently organized a school board meetingon 27th September 2016 to provide an update on what was going on in the institution as well give the public an opportunity to discuss their concerns and contributions. This paper analyzes the nature and role of public participation in uniting the community and institutions that serve its members. Evidently, although the meeting had some hitches in terms of short notices and low ethnic representation, it was successful because the community and the institution discussed agendaand non agenda matters and settled for proposals to increase engagement in the future. The meeting was intended to highlight key issues as stipulated in the agenda. These were recognizing achievements of Maya Salameh who won a national poetry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of George Orwell s Politics And The English Language Political press can play such crucial role in the viewpoints of citizens; with an impact like this, it is essential to have explicit information. George Orwell s 1946 essay Politics and the English Language he argues that Politicians have manipulated the English language, thus making their points euphemistic. He explains that these that, ...it is broadly true that political writing is bad writing and results to a politician being unconscious of what he is saying (Orwell). Even though this essay was written in 1946, Orwell s six basic rules are still broken. For instance, Donald Trump s immigration speech is prime example of what Orwell would conclude as nonsense . The speech breaks the elementary rules by using unfamiliar phrases,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Orwell does not agree with this technique; he strongly emphasizes to Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print (Orwell). Trump incorporates the phrase, I always say Trojan horse (Trump). The politician uses this metaphor to adapt to his opinion on immigrants; however, Orwell includes the key idea that, A newly invented metaphor assists thought by evoking a visual image, while on the other hand a metaphor which is technically dead (Orwell). Metaphors have been constantly twisted to aid a concept that the speaker or writer is trying to make clear. This leads to the politician, inventing phrases for themselves (Orwell). Another metaphor Trump presents in his speech is We re like the big bully that keeps getting beat up (Trump). This metaphor is a key example of what Orwell would deduce as pieces of clumsiness . Adding in metaphors can save effort, yet only benefits the speaker and not the listener. Behind this twisted phrasing, it makes the Politician look like he is not initially interested in what he is saying. Orwell stresses strongly, that metaphors are used to created imagery but in this case it causes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. My Brother s Life I couldn t believe it when the tomato red rental car pulled into our gravel driveway. He s here, I shouted, racing outside to welcome my nephew who had driven across the country to visit us. After greeting him with hugs, we watched as Evan s eyes took in our cabin, nestled in the woods. So this is White Pines, he said. At that moment I wished I could crawl inside Evan s head and see what his first impressions were. If I were a betting woman, I d bet my life that curiosity had forced my nephew into visiting. We d invited my brother s family for a visit several times over the years, but they had never come. Eventually our families had grown up. But as my sons and their cousins stayed in touch, their cousins seemed curious about the kind of lifestyle we led snuggled in the mountains. I believe Evan finally had to check it out for himself before life s obligations made it impossible. Not only had my children and their cousins grown up on different sides of the country, but world s apart when it came to lifestyles. My brother led a traditional life, which offered a beautiful home, the latest clothing styles, and security; while our family had chosen a meager lifestyle, unlike anything my brother s kids could imagine. And while two of our kids had left the nest and blessed us with grandchildren, we felt honored that two of our adult children shared our home. They worked and slept in the attic, while my husband and I slept in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Semester Exam Print Analysis For my first semester exam print, I used an old photograph of a Coca Cola sign from my summer assignment. This print was inspired and based off the life of my grandfather, who worked at at Coca Cola as a route salesman for thirty years, up until his retirement. My grandfather s job single handedly support The first semester exam print has been my favorite project by far, as I deeply enjoyed getting to experiment with darkroom techniques that I had not tried before. After finding the correct lighting and time exposure, and getting a good contrast of lights and darks in my print, I decided to add a more dramatic emphasis to the photo. I achieved this by utilizing the Halo clementines netting and by experimenting with selective developing. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Rhodospirillum Rubrum Research Paper Rhodospirillum rubrum is a gram negative, mesophilic proteobacteria; it has the ability to grow best at moderate temperatures (25 30В®C) and is one of many bacteria responsible for nitrogen fixation. Nitrogen fixation is the chemical processes by which atmospheric nitrogen is assimilated into organic compounds, especially by certain microorganisms as part of the nitrogen cycle (Dictionary.com, 2015). R. rubrum specifically uses nitrogenase to convert atmospheric nitrogen gas to ammonia. It is a spiral shaped (spirilla) bacteriaand is polarly flagellated and therefore motile. R. rubrum like many other purple non sulfur bacteria are found in more natural settings. They are particularly found in pond water, mud or a sewage sample which is perfect for its growth type (Withers, 2000) (Biorealm, 2011). Rhodospirillum rubrum is also a facultative anaerobe which means it has the ability to make ATP by aerobic respiration if oxygen is present, but is capable of switching to alcoholic fermentation or anaerobic respiration if oxygen is absent. It contains molecules in its chromophore particles called carotenoid and bacteriochlorophyll (they have an absorption spectra of 800 925 nm) which helps absorb light and convert it to energy and also gives it its distinct purple red colour under anaerobic conditions. ... Marr studied the effect of light intensity on the formation of intracytoplasmic membrane in Rhodospirillum rubrum. Cells of Rhodospirillum rubrum that were grown at low light intensity were found to contain much more internal membrane than cells grown at high light intensity. These highly purified membranes, known as chromatophores, grow at low to moderate light intensity and had a constant content of chlorophyll. The regulation of the chlorophyll content in the cell depends upon the formation of greater or lesser amounts of membrane which has a constant concentration of chlorophyll (HOLT SC, ... • 48. Not The Same Song I ve Always Sung Once again, I found myself weaving in boredom, singing the same song I ve always sung, with only useless, brainless wolves and mountain lions lying motionless around me. What a boring life this was, spending my days weaving or practicing magic, never to be visited, always ignored secluded, empty, without purpose. It had been at least a few centuries since anyone dared to tread the ground of Aeaea, as this land had become infamous off of the people lost to the witch Circe, which spread infectiously throughout the people, long ago averting their ships far away from here. As I already knew, the day would go by without a sound, then a night, then a day, then another night, then another day. Some immortals had jobs to fulfill, commands to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, after long moments of silence, only filled by my voice echoing throughout the halls, a group of voices from the entrance cried out my name. Hello, Circe, the voices yelled, we ask of you to let us take shelter in your hall! Bewildered by the sound of them, not having heard voice speak to me in what felt to me like an eternity, I swiftly maneuvered to the entranceway; there, I examined twenty three mortals, one of which stood further back than the others and refused to join them. Rejuvenated, I let them in, hurriedly preparing a customary feast, with mighty thrones to sit upon, fine cheese, barely, amber honey, and Pramnian wine. However, before bringing the meal out, I turned toward the table to see the mortals talking and laughing with each other, sharing their thoughts and spending time with each other. Stealthily, I grabbed a potion and mixed it into the meal, in hopes that it would make them forget their homeland. I didn t want them to leave. I didn t want to be alone again. I didn t want to give up this perfect opportunity to better my existence, whether or not they were only mortals. Thus, bringing the mixture out to the table, I set it down next to them and waited. Seemingly pouncing on the sight of food, they immediately began to eat, devouring every last morsel of it. All the while, I stood and waited for someone to perhaps talk to me, ask me to do something, give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
