The Magical World Of Bartimaeus The Tower Of London
In the magical world of Bartimaeus and Nathaniel, their mission to seek revenge and justice takes
place in London. Throughout the book, Bartimaeus is sent on adventures from plotting on the
rooftops of houses, to sojourning in the back alleys of London to hide from enemies. He also
begins to describe the area of which he has resided in and creates a curiousness in the reader to
discover the layout of this perplex and mysterious city. Interested myself about the setting of
London, I chose key locations in which Bartimaeus encounters along his adventures and began to
familiarize myself with the architectural and geographical history of these places. I then recognized
that London today is still rich with culture and history of the places mentioned... Show more content

In knowing that Thames separates both halves of London, I began to wonder what the Tower of
London was, and where it was in comparison to Thames so that I could connect it to other places
of London mentioned in the book. As it turns out, the Tower of London is a castle that resides on
the north bank of the River Thames in central London (Wiki). The Tower of London used to be
the residence of the royal family, but today it is used as a treasury that contains many valuables
of the royal family, including The Crown Jewels of England; crown. During the following years
after The Westminster Hall was built, the Tower of London was being used as a prison (Wiki),
and later not perceived as a resident for the royal family. Although they do not use it for that
purpose any more, it is a very common place to visit when traveling to London and it is very
noticeable when traveling along Thames. When hearing The Tower of London , I thought that it
was going to be a tower and not a castle, which changes my whole perspective on the level of
which he was flying when he was chased and what the surrounding area looked like, which gives
me a clear image of what Bartimaeus had to go through when he was being

REVIEW The main objective of research work conducted in this paper is to identify the root
causes of the declining Subway s customers. Lean principles are already adapted in Subway s
working process and we would like to identify additional continuous improvement methods that
can be implemented to increase the customer satisfaction and increase sales. Lean is said to be a
process improvement methodology used to deliver service and product in a faster way with lower
cost. Womack and Jones (1996) identified lean as A way to specify value, line up value creating
actions in the best sequence, conduct those activities without interruption whenever someone
requests them more and more effectively . Womack and Jones (1996) further elaborated saying that

Unit 7 Technical Assessment Questions
1. Why is risk mitigation and filling in critical security gaps an important next step after the security
assessment is performed?
During your security assessment you probably found some gaps, some of them may be critical
gaps, so naturally the next step should be to fix those gaps. Once you know you are exposed you
want to fix those gaps ASAP before they get exploited.
2. How do you align the results of the qualitative risk assessment to risk mitigation?
You align the results by how likely each risk is to be exploited. The critical security gaps should be
taken care of before the low level risks.
3. What were the major elements of your risk mitigation project plan?

Disparity Between The Passion Of The Christ by Mel Gibson...
The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson, recounts the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus of
Nazareth, portraying his arrest, trial, crucifixion and death. One of the most popular religious
movies in modern times, it therefore becomes susceptible to criticism. Although the film is based
upon the stories within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there are many
exaggerations and non biblical elements present in the movie. This is not unexpected, since it is a
movie, but the vivid detail of the brutality in the movie as well as the Anti Semitic theme are the
most publicly criticized elements of the movie. The Passion emphasizes the brutality Jesusendured
to give himself for his people, but at the same time in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After re reading some of the gospels, it doesn t explain or declare that he was shy about his
beliefs. In the scenes of the movie, he is preaching his peace and ideas of independence, but the
high priests and the Jewish people do not show him any mercy or respect. Even at the voice of the
governor Pontius Pilate, who several times mentions that he doesn t find any guilt or reason to
persecute Jesus, the people still wish for his crucifixion. The movie did not really make sense of
the motivation of the Jewish high priests or the Jewish people, and it was not explained in the
gospels either. However, in Mark 15; 10 11, it suggests that Pontius Pilate realized that it was out
of jealousy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over. The chief priests, however, had incited
the crowd to demand that he should release Barabbas for them instead . Therefore, according to
the Bible, the chief priests were envious of Jesus, and that is why they condemned him to be
crucified. It was an act of panic more than anything else. The people, fearing to be considered
outcasts, therefore agreed with whatever the high priests would say. This still does not explain
why the Jewish people were so quick to have their savior and messiah killed. The movie suggests
that they all felt passionately about this themselves, because all the people in the scenes are

Juvenile Delinquency in the Classroom Essays
In depicting juvenile delinquency in the classroom, a few film directors portrayed novice teachers
desire to reach what the school system customarily labeled as problem students. These films
illustrate that these students are often categorized quickly and unfairly, and hopeful intervention by
a few caring and zealous teachers is enough to change their lives and attitudes for the better.
In the black and white 1955 film Blackboard Jungle, Mr. Dadier (played by Glenn Ford) was an
idealistic teacher on his first job in a tough urban mostly white male high school. The characters
were dressed in clothing of the time (jeans rolled up at the cuffs, tee shirts, bow ties, baseball
caps) and the boys wore their hair in the Elvis Presley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dadier made a connection with Artie West, which occurred after hard work and many failed
teaching efforts. Mr. Dadier finally realized how to breathe life into his lessons so that they
became meaningful to his students. He also showed respect for them by allowing them to
showcase their talents in the Christmas program. These two strategies combined were enough to
earn the respect of the classroom s gang leader. Artie West, in turn, put the word out to the other
students to work hard and behave in this teacher s class. Other teachers shared in Mr. Dadier s
success by stating that the momentum created in Mr. Dadier s English class had carried over into
their own classes. This movie had a positive outcome. Continued hard work would be necessary for
the positive change to continue. Blackboard Jungle opened and closed with Bill Haley and the
Comet s Rock Around the Clock , which helped stir quite a ruckus so much so, the film was banned
from many theatres. But the film s central point was nevertheless clear: students who we think are
aimless and recalcitrant only need the thoughtful guidance of a concerned teacher to make learning
meaningful and rewarding.
Twelve years after the release of Blackboard Jungle , Sidney Portier starred in yet another film
featuring juvenile delinquency in the classroom. To Sir With Love , filmed in 1967 a time when
there was great hostility in the

Pathophysiology Research Paper
1a. Pathophysiology is a key factor in understanding how the body works. One aspect where it is
very important is pH disturbances of the body. Respiratory alkalosis is when there is a commotion
in the pH balance when there is alveolar hyperventilation in the lungs. This in return can cause a
decline in pressure of carbon dioxidecausing an increase in bicarbonate. In return the pH level
increases. Respiratory acidosisis a pH balance disturbance that occurs in response to alveolar
hypoventilation. As carbon dioxide is produced ventilation failure increases the pressure of
carbon dioxide. After this happens the pH level decreases. Metabolic alkalosis is an increase in
the body s amount of bicarbonate. When the body loses too much hydrogen from the body, and/or
retains too much bicarbonate, this issue can occur. Metabolic acidosis is an occurrence during
which there is an increase in acids or a decrease in bicarbonate.... Show more content on

Meaning Of Silence
Silence is better than unmeaning words by Pythagoras has very deep meaning. Silence is
defined as when there is an absence of sound, but there is more to it. During silence a lot of the
times people have no idea about what to say or what would be appropriate thing to do. In a short
story A primer for Punctuation of Heart disease by Jonathan Safran Foer, story revolves around a
boy named Jonathan whose familyhas lack of communication which has caused distance in familial
relationships. The story consists of different Punctuations that most audience is unfamiliar with and
the meanings that he gives revolves around how his life is spent in silence. Foer uses silence as a

In Foer s story when the speaker defines meaning of a particular symbol, he relates the symbol to
a particular time where the symbol should be present in the conversation. Foer writes, The best
example of this usage occurred when I was a boy. My grandmother was driving me to a piano
lesson, and the Volvo s wipers only moved the rain around. She turned down the volume of the
second side of the seventh tape of an audio version of Shoah, put her hand on my cheek, and said,
I hope that you never love anyone as much as I love youВЎ (2). Jonathan was describing the
meaning of unxclamation point which indicates whisper. Not only did speaker described the
meaning but he connected it to his past memory and he was silent after listening to his
grandmother words because he was trying to remember the other instances where somebody
told him I love you. Similar view is offered by Lahiri, where Kaushik s father called him and before
picking the phone up he gets lost in the memory of his dad. Lahiri writes, I [Kaushik] knew
before answering that it was my father; there was no one else who would have called me before
nine. My father had always been an early riser, believing that the hours between five and seven
were the most profitable part of the day (1). Normally when someone calls people s first response

Summary Of Killing Hope By William Blum
Heidi Michaud
History 333
Prof. Mary Duncan
17 May, 2015
Examining U.S. Motivation in the Guatemalan Coup
In William Blum s Book, Killing Hope, Blum claims that the U.S. backed a CIA overthrow of the
Guatemalan Government in 1954.. Blum challenges that the motivation for the coup was not based
on a true belief that Guatemala s President Jacobo Arbenz was leaning towards communism, and
alludes to the the idea that the true motivation for the Coup was the threat to economic gains to The
United Fruit Company. Research of the Coup shows that Blum is correct in that the United States
was indeed behind the overthrow of Arbenz. However, Blum does not allow for doubt in that
Arbenz s social reforms and political actions could have truly appeared as communist to the United
States. Although hindsight and time reveal the coup to be morally and politically wrong, it is valid
to recognize that at that time in history, the actions of Guatemala s President, coupled with private
interests and radical beliefs about what constituted communism, could have sincerely convinced the
U.S. government that there was a true communist threat in Guatemala. After World War II, the
United States Cold War policy of Soviet Containment fostered a borderline hysterical fear of
communism in America. This fear created an atmosphere of U.S. hypervigilance towards any
actions that could appear remotely communist. The U.S. supported Coup in Guatemala was mostly
a result of strong anti Communist

Comparing Svidrigailov s Dream In Crime And Punishment
In the novel Crime and Punishment, there are various dreams that are prominent to the story and
add element to the characters. This includes the character, Arkady Svidrigailov, who experiences
several dreams. Dostoevsky uses Svidrigailov s dream as a representation of his subconscious
desires, both pure and impure; this includes his dreams in order to further characterization of
Svidrigailov that could not occur through plot events or dialogue.
The first of Svidrigailov s dreams begins with a mouse running all over his body. The dream was so
strange he thought it was real.
He was dozing off; the feverish shiver had ceased, when suddenly something seemed to run over his
arm and leg under the bedclothes...he shook the blanket and suddenly ... Show more content on

Svidrigailov knew that girl; there was no holy image; no burning candle beside the coffin; no sound
of prayers: the girl had drowned herself. She was only fourteen, but her heart was broken (502).
Svidrigailov has this dream because the girl he raped had killed herself because of his actions. Yet,
Svidrigailov surprises the reader: But her loose fair hair was wet; there was a wreath of roses on
her head. The stern and already rigid profile of her face looked as though chiselled of marble
too, and the smile on her pale lips was full of an immense unchildish misery and sorrowful appeal
(502). This could be a depiction of Svidrigailov s guilt of raping the young girl. From being
familiar with Svidrigailov s character, the reader would not expect him to feel guilty of his action.
The final significant dream concludes when he is walking through a corridor and finds a young girl.
He bent down with the candle and saw a little girl, not more than five years old, shivering and
crying, with her clothes as wet as a soaking house flannel...he took her in his arms, went back to
his room, sat her on the bed, and began undressing her...when he had undressed her, he put her on
the bed, covered her up and wrapped her in the blanket from her head downwards.

Literary Techniques In Dorothea Mackellar s Poem My Country
In Poetry authors use a range of literary techniques. These techniques can include the use of rhyme,
alliteration, personification, similes, metaphors and imagery. The poems that will be compared in
this essay include: My Country by Dorothea Mackellar, The Eagle by Alfred Lord Tennyson and
Old Man Platypus by Banjo Patterson.
The Poem My Country, by Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar, depicts the diverse land of Australia
and why she loves it so much. This poem makes me feel proud to be Australian because I am
lucky enough to live in such a vast and beautiful country, as the poem describes. The constant flow

This poem makes me feel lighthearted and it makes me smile through its clever language use to
describe the individuality of the platypus. Techniques used in this poem include the use of
rhyme, like the two poems previously mentioned. In this poem line one, three and four rhyme
and lines two and five also rhyme with each other in each stanza. Also like the two previous
poems, Old Man Platypus employs personification. For example the poem gives the platypus the
human quality of talking in stanza five he talks in a deep unfriendly growl . Alliteration is used
in this poem, like the others, such as in the first line of stanza three: he shares his burrow
beneath the bank . Similes are also found in this poem in stanza four where Patterson writes,
They sleep like little brown billiard balls . This image of the sleeping platypuses is emphasized
by the use of alliteration. Unlike the other two poems mentioned, Patterson uses humor in this
poem while he is describing the platypus. For example he playfully refers to the platypus as Old
Man Platypus and writes that he descends from a family most exclusive . The use of the word
exclusive would not usually be thought of to refer to the ancestry of the platypus and this is where
the humorous tone of Patterson s writing comes

This experiment demonstrated the separation of pigments based on relative polarity and proved to
be a substantial way to separate compounds. The results were much like that of an experiment
performed, which separated carbohydrates in a very similar method with the use of paper

John Husler, was also demonstrated in this experiment. The technique was followed as to prevent
contamination and deliver the right amount of solution each time (John Husler: 1983).

The Issue Of Capital Punishment Essay
Today, one of the most debated issues in the Criminal Justice System is the issue of capital
punishment or the death penalty. Having said that, crime is imminent. We could have an
unexpected encounter with a criminal committing crime on a daily. Criminals have become a part
of our daily lives. Does this mean we should let them prevail in our society? No, absolutely not.
Eliminating crimeand criminals is our duty, and we must not ignore it. Getting the rightly
accused to a just punishment is very important. Some criminals commit a crime because they
have no other option to survive, but some do it for fun. I do not advocate death penalty for
everybody. A person, who stole a piece of clothing from a department store, definitely does not
deserve the death penalty. However, a serial killer, who kills people just because or for malicious
reasons, definitely deserves the death penalty. The death penalty should continue, in order to
eliminate the garbage out of our society. Not everybody deserves to die, but some people
definitely do. I support the death penalty for several reasons. Primarily, I believe that the death
penalty serves as a deterrent and assists with reducing crime. Moreover, the death penalty assures
safety to our society by eliminating these criminals.
As stated in our text, deterrence is a sentencing goal or a crime prevention strategy that seeks to
inhibit criminal behavior in either the offender (specific deterrence) or in the others (general
deterrence by using

Implementing Universal Healthcare Coverage For All Citizens
The United States is in a period of transition in regards to healthcare. After the passing of the
Affordable Care Act (ACA), more widely known as ObamaCare , in 2010, many dissenting
politicians looked towards Europe to find critiques of the universal systems already in place. The
Scandinavian countries and the United Kingdom were the main targets of allegations that the
United Stateswas attempting to become socialist. However, there is an alternative path to universal
healthcare that may provide a better option for the United States during this time of policy reform. I
argue that the United States should seek to emulate the Netherlands in implementing universal
healthcare coverage for all citizens. Although the United States has attempted to enact healthcare
reforms similar to that of the Netherlands, the current trials in the Supreme Court threaten to
undermine these reforms. By comparing the health statistics of the United States and the
Netherlands, I hope to provide a convincing argument that the reforms enacted by the ACA, which
emulate the Dutch reforms, should improve the healthcare system and overall health of the county.
Background
There are two models of healthcare that fall into the realm of universal healthcare, the Beveridge
Model and the Bismarck Model. In the Beveridge model the government, which is the sole payer of
the system, owns most of the hospitals and clinics (PNHP, 2010). I maintain that the United States
is very unlikely to adopt this model, and

To be prejudiced is to have a preconceived opinion about others. An individual may be good,
noble, generous, kind, and helpful, but may be rated by the image of his race, religion, and
nationality rather than by an assessment of his individual characteristics. Prejudice is acquired, not
inborn, prejudice is not inherited: it is taught . Prejudice is unlearned as members of various
groups come to know each other as persons instead of stereotypes. WHAT DO YOU
UNDERSTAND BY THE TERM DISCRIMINATION? Discrimination is overt behaviour toward
another person that is different from the individual s usual behaviour toward others. It is differential
treatment towards others. In our society, discrimination may take place in various forms such as in
education, voting, employment, group membership, legal, occupational, political and social. It has
been seen as unfair treatment or injurious distinctions, especially unfair treatment. The dominant
group treats members of the minority group differently because of a variety of fears, fear of
intermarriage, fear of job competition, fear of loss of political power and special privileges, fear of
decline of their own social status should they associate with them. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is one

Roanoke was then known as big lick due to the many salt licks in the area. It is a little valley
about 43 square miles surrounded by mountains. It has also been referred to as the star city of the
south due to our large star atop of Mill Mountain.
It is a very diverse community; it has a population of over of over 200,000. With the estimated

The Completion Of My Degree Program At Northeastern State...
At the completion of my degree program at Northeastern State University, commencement
exercises were rapidly approaching. As most of my classmates and friends were filled with
excitement, I was experiencing mixed emotions, most of all fear of the unknown as to where I
would end up.
To be completely honest, I was fearful of leaving Tahlequah and Northeastern State simply due to
so many unknown variables as to what steps I would take next in my life. I dreaded the fact that I
was leaving Tahlequah, as it was a place that helped me to grown intellectually, emotionally, and
physically.
The influence of Dr. Kent Lashley had motivated me to become more scholarly and instilled a
desire of life long learning. Emotionally, I was forced to grow, mature, and problem solve without
having my parents there to coach me, and as a result of that, I gained confidence and
independence in my ability to make it as a young adult. Physically, I grew and learned the
importance of proper nutrition, became an avid runner, and earned my 3rd degree black belt before
graduating from college.
The fear within me was simply not knowing where I would end up teaching with my first job. I
had not applied too many places in Oklahoma before my graduation date as I had placed all of my
eggs in one basket. I had relied on a young lady that I thought would spend the rest of my life with
and was headed to Florida to fulfill a lifelong goal. Little did I know that the relationship would
completely dissolve

Comparing Theodor Adorno And Jurgen Habermas
Theodor Adorno and Jurgen Habermas were both members of the German Frankfurt School
(Frankfurter Schule). Explain why these figures figure so largely in media studies, what these
theorists had in common and what separated them, especially in terms of ideas on political
economy?
With the controversial increase in the concentration of media ownership in the UK over the past
thirty years there is no wonder that Neo Marxist critical theory has become more prominent in the
examination and study of media. Theodor Adorno and Jurgen Habermas, members of the German
Frankfurt School, both apply Marxist Hegelian basis in their critiques of media and its interaction

Harmondsworth, Eng.: Penguin, 1965). A decline in popularity of this movement suggests that
what Adorno is posing is in fact of great importance specifically when analysing media and

Habermas however theorises the idea that there is an existence of a public sphere, which is
essentially a made up of private people gathered together as a public and articulating the needs of
society with the state (Habermas, J., Lawrence, F. and Burger, T. The structural transformation of
the public sphere. Cambridge, MASS: The MIT Press 1989). This public sphere, through act of
assembly generates opinions and attitudes which serve to affirm the affairs of state (Media
studies.ca, 2017) and is required to legitimate authority in any functioning democracy (Habermas,
J., Lawrence, F. and Burger, T. The structural transformation of the public sphere. Cambridge,
MASS: The MIT Press 1989). Habermas also commented upon how there has been a creation of a
bourgeois public sphere which is separate from the public as citizens became more concerned with
consumerism and less with political matters, therefore distancing themselves from this new public
sphere. In turn the media developed from a means of citizens gaining information on politics and
society into a medium of advertising and a method of political forces which resulted in a less
public inclusive public sphere. The idea of the public sphere is important when examining media
practices as through the

Education Is The Root And Foundation Of A Person s Growth...
Education is the root and foundation of a person s growth in life. This is where skills are being
developed as well as knowledge, awareness, and comprehension are being supplied. In spite of their
ethnic root, monetary status, and religious convictions, all Filipinos have the right to access
education (Castro, 2014). Unfortunately, not all are receiving the adequate and stable way of
having a smooth learning because of the lack of school, teachers, money, limited resources, and
even because of militarization around the world. One of them are the Indigenous People of Mindanao

Balfour Declaration Of Independence
In 1917, before the United Nations was even created, the British government published the Balfour
Declaration which supported the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine (Immell 16). Inevitably,
bad feelings were going to rise between the native Arabs of Palestine and this new Balfour
Declaration that favored taking away some of Palestineland and setting it aside for Jewish
immigrants. Over the next 20 years, the number of Jews immigrating to Palestine increased due to
the Zionist movemnt, and so did Arab Jewish tensions. From 1936 1939, a large group of Arabs
revolted. This revolt was led by leaders who were unwilling to give any Palestine land for the
establishment of a Jewish nation (Cottrell 32 35). After this revolt and the growing Zionist
movement, it would have seemed apparent to the United Nations that the Arabs and Jews in
Palestine needed to be separated. So although the United Nations did pass Resolution 181 which
essentially created the Jewish nation, Israel, the United Nations merely carried out the legislature
that was promised from the Balfour Declaration of the British government. By not being able to
peacefully live together, the Arabs and Jews of Palestine themselves ended up playing a role in the

for this paper is catheter associated urinary tract infections and is under the category of safety and
infection control; according to (INSERT NCSBN CITATION) this issue falls under the overview
of safe and effective care for patients. The importance of addressing this issue is one that can

Taking a look at the patients that have increased rates tend to be of female gender due to the
shortened urethra which allows the bacteremia to travel at a shorter distance than that of males,
some of the other risk factors for higher catheter associated urinary tract infections include patients
that are of older age, prolonged catheterization and impaired immunity (Conway, Larson 2012).
With respect to cultural values that may affect this situation they are none that I could find
correlating with catheter associated hospital infections. Proposed Solution
Through extensive research into catheter associated urinary tract infections there are many different
approaches to reducing the modifiable risk factors and the incidence of catheter associated urinary
tract infections in the hospital setting that can be used in any unit to reduce the liability of catheter
associated urinary tract infections. According to (Gesmundo, 2016)) the prolonging of the catheter
removal is one of the major reasons for catheter associated urinary tract infections. When adopting
the principles of how to lower the rate the success begins at the time of admission and

The Death Of Judge Rusty Sabich
Innocent recounts a period, from 2008 2009, in the life of Judge Rusty Sabich. It is divided into
three main sections (pre trial, trial, and post trial) and narrated from several points of view, such
as Rusty Sabich, a judge in Kindle County; Nat Sabich, a law school graduate and the son of
Rusty; Tommy Molto, a Kindle County prosecuting attorney; and Anna Vostic, a law clerk and
Rusty s mistress. However, the overarching story narrative focuses on the death of Barbara Sabich
and the trial of Rusty, her husband, for her murder. The murder trial in Innocent occurs twenty
years after Rusty was tried for the murder of Carolyn Polhemus. Polhemus was an attorney, who
was strangled in her apartment. Also, she was Rusty s mistress. At trial, Rusty was acquitted for
Polhemus s murder and the case was never solved. Another aspect of the book is the appealof John
Harnason, a convicted poisoner, who Rusty has extrajudicial involvement with. Innocent is a
standalone sequel to Scott Turows book Presumed Innocent, which recounts the Polhemus trial in
detail. Innocent opens with the perspective of Nat Sabich and the following lines: A man is
sitting on a bed. He is my father. The body of a woman is beneath the covers. She was my
mother (1). Nat proceeds to report about the death of his mother, Barbara. Essentially, Rusty
wakes on the morning of September 30, 2008 to find his wife dead. He waits for a period of 24

Theme Of Profit In Great Expectations
When one gains immense profit at the loss of their soul, all is lost in the end. This is the point that
Dickens is trying to make with the main character in his novel Great Expectations. Profit does not
mean loss in the literal sense, but when you gain something materialistic at the loss of something
sentimental, profit means loss. In the novel, Pip, the main character, leaves his home and moves to
England and makes immense profit in money, only to lose it all. In Great Expectations, the giving
of the soul at the gain of the world is explored through Pip and Miss Havisham. Pip moves to
England and becomes wealthy; Pip now thinks that money is the best thing in the world. Pip
then returns to his home and confesses his love to Estella, Estella doesn t love him back. Pip
now realizes that money cannot buy happiness. Miss. Havisham, on the other hand, is the
aftermath of gaining materialistic things at the loss of her soul. When we first meet her, she is
dressed as if she was going to a wedding, but most of her clothes are scattered about. She already
knows that money did not fulfill her dreams and now there is nothing to be done about it. In Great
Expectations we explore Pip s ups and downs as he moves throughout the world trying to
understand the hardships that come with it. Pip starts as a cheerful but fearful young boy growing
up in nineteenth century England. Pip claims that his sister abused him and made him anxious of

Patrice Lumumba And The Congo Crisis
In June of 1960, at the height of the Cold War, Congo received its independence from King
Leopold II s Belgium. Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of Congo, was instrumental in
the Congolese bid for independence, and played a similar role in the early stages of postcolonial
Congo, known as the Congo Crisis. In the new Congolese nation, Lumumba was faced with the
challenge of unifying a large African nation with difficulties arising from Cold warinfluences and
geopolitical tensions. As Prime Minister, Lumumba s primary goal was to build a functioning
Congolese state, with the Cold War being irrelevant save its ability to help in the process of state

The short term success of communist and other highly centralized governments was enticing to
Lumumba, so he turned to a strong centralized government as his way of unifying Congo. In the
context of the Cold War, with fears and tensions at an all time high, this methodology alarmed the
nations of the free world. The Belgians and opposing political parties propagated the rumors of
Lumumba s communist tendencies, vilifying Lumumba. As Lumumba later found out, this was an
unfortunate resemblance to bear in the free world.
Bearing the alleged connection to communism, Lumumba had to complete the difficult task of
unifying a vast landscape with many diverse ethnicities, languages, and political interests. The
province of Katanga posed the greatest threat to Lumumba in this respect. Katanga was extremely
important as it was the most wealthy and lucrative province in Congo, making it paramount to a
successful Congolese nation. Unfortunately for Congo, Moise Tshombe, the leader of Katanga, did
not see eye to eye with Lumumba. As demonstrated in film, the leaders of Katanga, with the support
of Belgium, sought to secede from the independent Congo, resulting in a frenzy as the soldiers led a
Katangese revolt. As a consequence, geopolitical tensions were at their zenith. Lumumba attempted
to quell this revolt with his own troops, but the new Congolese nation s army was untrained and
unorganized and thus was ineffectual in its response to the chaos.

Because I Could Not Stop For Death And Death Be Not Proud
Death and the afterlife exist as the most controversial topics in existence. Mortality is a fact, but
no one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe
death to be the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture
or words. It can prove challenging as no one has experienced deathand lived to tell the tale. Though
challenging it has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death.
Death be not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz
When I Died both by Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters.
These poems deal with different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals
with death in the present tense. The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins
spouting their opinions of him. They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power.
Next he declares death nothing but a slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the
finishing blow comes when the narrator calls death a short sleep. Because once they die they will
just live again eternally, instead death will die forever. Donne wrote from a Christian viewpoint,
believing death is not worthy of fear.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Business Management At The Ecole Des Hautes Etudes...
Two weeks ago, I received my admission at the Г‰cole des hautes Г©tudes commerciales of
Montreal. As I chose to go in business management, I will probably have to deal with employees,
hiring and firing some. Thus, I started questioning myself on that. When you have such a short
meeting with someone, how can you know if a person is right for the job? Of course, the first
impression can influence your choice but then, it would only be based on their appearance not on
their competencies. For example, if a women walks in with dirty pink hair and smells bad but has
an interesting CV, should it influence my decision in hiring that person? Wouldn t that be
discrimination? Nobody should be discriminated for a job for their global appearance or style.
However, having employees that have a particularly marginal look can affect the company s
image. It is better to avoid that because a good corporate image is hard to build and it is related
to a lot of different elements. It has a major impact on the business and translates better money
entries and higher stock valuation. It is indeed the manager s job to try to make sure the corporate
image takes the right direction by communications, brand selection and promotion, use of symbols
in advertising etc. Corporations trying to shape their image are analogous to individuals who will

land, his birthplace and fathers house to go to a land he will inherit. This happens about 2000

Essay Anterior Cruciate Ligament
Anterior Cruciate Ligament
With an ever increasing number of people becoming involved with athletic activities, there is an
increasing number of injuries occurring which can be devastating for the individual. Most of the
injuries that affect athletes occur in one of four structures in the human body: bones, muscles,
tendons, or ligaments. Because ligaments attach bone to bone and play a major part in providing
stability for joints, the major stabilizing ligament in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL),
assists in performing everyday actions of the human body including sitting, standing, walking,
running, dancing, and participating in other sports. The injury that specifically affects this ligament

This short and round ligament, like all other ligaments, prevents slippage within the joint and allows
the joint to properly pivot when performing an action (Duff 300). Without this particular ligament,
the knees would be fragile and more susceptible to injury. Therefore, it would be impossible to do
the simplest movements that are done by humans everyday, like walking and even sitting. This is
one reason why many athletes should be aware of the physical indications that arise if they have
torn their ACL while participating in athletic activities.
In many cases, the symptoms that the patient feels after the trauma has occurred can help the
doctor make his or her diagnosis. Many times a doctor will ask the patient to recall what
happened after the injury was sustained. Usually with an ACL injury, the patient will describe a
so called pop or snap that he or she heard during the impact. Pain, which is not terribly
excruciating, will immediately follow, and if the individual tries to stand, he or she will be faced
with an overwhelming feeling of instability, the leg will buckle under, and the individual will
ultimately fall down onto the ground. Although the patient is experiencing pain, he or she cannot
point out exactly where the injury has occurred. Garrick states, some people say that their knee
shifts in position which it actually does (118). Other symptoms that may arise are stiffness and

Black Tailed Prairie Dogs Case Study
Discussion on Black Tailed Prairie Dogs LRS Black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus)
demonstrated an improved long term reproductive success until a disproportionate ratio of helpers
to breeders (exceeding amount of helpers to breeders) became injurious to the coterie. In addition,
we observed an increased aggression (25% increase) in coteries with more helpers present than
smaller ones. Lastly, we found that there was more communication within coteries that contained an
average helper pool size than in smaller and larger helper pool size coteries. These factors may have
created the results that we observe, such as less competition and how much helpers aid breeders.
Less Competition Our results suggest the improved long term reproductive success is due to the
number of helpers remaining relatively small. We suppose that having fewer helpers lowers the
need for completion and increases communication among individuals within the coteries between
individuals. Competition creates among individuals for resources and causes evolution, yet
competition can be harmful where too much exists. In brown capuchin monkeys, larger... Show

This indicates that when the helper to breeder ratio becomes too high, the coterie becomes too
competitive, thus lowering the black tailed prairie dogs long term reproductive success. From our

intention not to share any profits with Whitney and Miller. This was a problem for them because
the patent law for the Cotton Gin was pirated; farmers easily developed their own Cotton Gin and
improved the machine from the original. After the invention, the Cotton Gin was a success and the
South became the cotton king which made their economy

  • 6. Disparity Between The Passion Of The Christ by Mel Gibson... The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson, recounts the last twelve hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth, portraying his arrest, trial, crucifixion and death. One of the most popular religious movies in modern times, it therefore becomes susceptible to criticism. Although the film is based upon the stories within the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, there are many exaggerations and non biblical elements present in the movie. This is not unexpected, since it is a movie, but the vivid detail of the brutality in the movie as well as the Anti Semitic theme are the most publicly criticized elements of the movie. The Passion emphasizes the brutality Jesusendured to give himself for his people, but at the same time in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After re reading some of the gospels, it doesn t explain or declare that he was shy about his beliefs. In the scenes of the movie, he is preaching his peace and ideas of independence, but the high priests and the Jewish people do not show him any mercy or respect. Even at the voice of the governor Pontius Pilate, who several times mentions that he doesn t find any guilt or reason to persecute Jesus, the people still wish for his crucifixion. The movie did not really make sense of the motivation of the Jewish high priests or the Jewish people, and it was not explained in the gospels either. However, in Mark 15; 10 11, it suggests that Pontius Pilate realized that it was out of jealousy that the chief priests had handed Jesus over. The chief priests, however, had incited the crowd to demand that he should release Barabbas for them instead . Therefore, according to the Bible, the chief priests were envious of Jesus, and that is why they condemned him to be crucified. It was an act of panic more than anything else. The people, fearing to be considered outcasts, therefore agreed with whatever the high priests would say. This still does not explain why the Jewish people were so quick to have their savior and messiah killed. Juvenile Delinquency in the Classroom Essays In depicting juvenile delinquency in the classroom, a few film directors portrayed novice teachers desire to reach what the school system customarily labeled as problem students. These films illustrate that these students are often categorized quickly and unfairly, and hopeful intervention by a few caring and zealous teachers is enough to change their lives and attitudes for the better. In the black and white 1955 film Blackboard Jungle, Mr. Dadier (played by Glenn Ford) was an idealistic teacher on his first job in a tough urban mostly white male high school. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dadier made a connection with Artie West, which occurred after hard work and many failed teaching efforts. Mr. Dadier finally realized how to breathe life into his lessons so that they became meaningful to his students. He also showed respect for them by allowing them to showcase their talents in the Christmas program. These two strategies combined were enough to earn the respect of the classroom s gang leader. Artie West, in turn, put the word out to the other students to work hard and behave in this teacher s class. Other teachers shared in Mr. Dadier s success by stating that the momentum created in Mr. Dadier s English class had carried over into their own classes. This movie had a positive outcome. Continued hard work would be necessary for the positive change to continue. Blackboard Jungle opened and closed with Bill Haley and the Comet s Rock Around the Clock , which helped stir quite a ruckus so much so, the film was banned from many theatres. But the film s central point was nevertheless clear: students who we think are aimless and recalcitrant only need the thoughtful guidance of a concerned teacher to make learning meaningful and rewarding. Respiratory alkalosis is when there is a commotion in the pH balance when there is alveolar hyperventilation in the lungs. This in return can cause a decline in pressure of carbon dioxidecausing an increase in bicarbonate. In return the pH level increases. Respiratory acidosisis a pH balance disturbance that occurs in response to alveolar hypoventilation. As carbon dioxide is produced ventilation failure increases the pressure of carbon dioxide. After this happens the pH level decreases. Metabolic alkalosis is an increase in the body s amount of bicarbonate. Blum challenges that the motivation for the coup was not based on a true belief that Guatemala s President Jacobo Arbenz was leaning towards communism, and alludes to the the idea that the true motivation for the Coup was the threat to economic gains to The United Fruit Company. Research of the Coup shows that Blum is correct in that the United States was indeed behind the overthrow of Arbenz. However, Blum does not allow for doubt in that Arbenz s social reforms and political actions could have truly appeared as communist to the United States. Although hindsight and time reveal the coup to be morally and politically wrong, it is valid to recognize that at that time in history, the actions of Guatemala s President, coupled with private interests and radical beliefs about what constituted communism, could have sincerely convinced the U.S. government that there was a true communist threat in Guatemala. After World War II, the United States Cold War policy of Soviet Containment fostered a borderline hysterical fear of communism in America. This fear created an atmosphere of U.S. hypervigilance towards any actions that could appear remotely communist. The U.S. supported Coup in Guatemala was mostly a result of strong anti Communist ... This includes the character, Arkady Svidrigailov, who experiences several dreams. Dostoevsky uses Svidrigailov s dream as a representation of his subconscious desires, both pure and impure; this includes his dreams in order to further characterization of Svidrigailov that could not occur through plot events or dialogue. The first of Svidrigailov s dreams begins with a mouse running all over his body. The dream was so strange he thought it was real. Yet, Svidrigailov surprises the reader: But her loose fair hair was wet; there was a wreath of roses on her head. The stern and already rigid profile of her face looked as though chiselled of marble too, and the smile on her pale lips was full of an immense unchildish misery and sorrowful appeal (502). This could be a depiction of Svidrigailov s guilt of raping the young girl. From being familiar with Svidrigailov s character, the reader would not expect him to feel guilty of his action. The final significant dream concludes when he is walking through a corridor and finds a young girl. He bent down with the candle and saw a little girl, not more than five years old, shivering and crying, with her clothes as wet as a soaking house flannel...he took her in his arms, went back to his room, sat her on the bed, and began undressing her...when he had undressed her, he put her on the bed, covered her up and wrapped her in the blanket from her head downwards. ... Having said that, crime is imminent. We could have an unexpected encounter with a criminal committing crime on a daily. Criminals have become a part of our daily lives. Does this mean we should let them prevail in our society? No, absolutely not. Eliminating crimeand criminals is our duty, and we must not ignore it. Getting the rightly accused to a just punishment is very important. Some criminals commit a crime because they have no other option to survive, but some do it for fun. I do not advocate death penalty for everybody. A person, who stole a piece of clothing from a department store, definitely does not deserve the death penalty. However, a serial killer, who kills people just because or for malicious reasons, definitely deserves the death penalty. The death penalty should continue, in order to eliminate the garbage out of our society. Not everybody deserves to die, but some people definitely do. I support the death penalty for several reasons. Primarily, I believe that the death penalty serves as a deterrent and assists with reducing crime. Moreover, the death penalty assures safety to our society by eliminating these criminals. As stated in our text, deterrence is a sentencing goal or a crime prevention strategy that seeks to inhibit criminal behavior in either the offender (specific deterrence) or in the others (general deterrence by using ... The Scandinavian countries and the United Kingdom were the main targets of allegations that the United Stateswas attempting to become socialist. Although the United States has attempted to enact healthcare reforms similar to that of the Netherlands, the current trials in the Supreme Court threaten to undermine these reforms. By comparing the health statistics of the United States and the Netherlands, I hope to provide a convincing argument that the reforms enacted by the ACA, which emulate the Dutch reforms, should improve the healthcare system and overall health of the county. Inevitably, bad feelings were going to rise between the native Arabs of Palestine and this new Balfour Declaration that favored taking away some of Palestineland and setting it aside for Jewish immigrants. Over the next 20 years, the number of Jews immigrating to Palestine increased due to the Zionist movemnt, and so did Arab Jewish tensions. From 1936 1939, a large group of Arabs revolted. This revolt was led by leaders who were unwilling to give any Palestine land for the establishment of a Jewish nation (Cottrell 32 35). After this revolt and the growing Zionist movement, it would have seemed apparent to the United Nations that the Arabs and Jews in Palestine needed to be separated. So although the United Nations did pass Resolution 181 which essentially created the Jewish nation, Israel, the United Nations merely carried out the legislature that was promised from the Balfour Declaration of the British government. By not being able to peacefully live together, the Arabs and Jews of Palestine themselves ended up playing a role in the separation and partition of Palestine... And while we will never know for sure, we can infer from tensions previous to the creation of Israel, such as the Arab Revolt, that some conflict/war would have broken out anyways between the Arab and Jewish people in Palestine. However, as the Arab Israeli war was mostly fought in response to the creation of Israel, the United Nation s decision to partition Israel ultimately led to the Arab Israeli war, and different conflicts involving land after ... This is the point that Dickens is trying to make with the main character in his novel Great Expectations. In Great Expectations, the giving of the soul at the gain of the world is explored through Pip and Miss Havisham. Pip moves to England and becomes wealthy; Pip now thinks that money is the best thing in the world. Pip then returns to his home and confesses his love to Estella, Estella doesn t love him back. Patrice Lumumba, the first Prime Minister of Congo, was instrumental in the Congolese bid for independence, and played a similar role in the early stages of postcolonial Congo, known as the Congo Crisis. In the new Congolese nation, Lumumba was faced with the challenge of unifying a large African nation with difficulties arising from Cold warinfluences and geopolitical tensions. The short term success of communist and other highly centralized governments was enticing to Lumumba, so he turned to a strong centralized government as his way of unifying Congo. In the context of the Cold War, with fears and tensions at an all time high, this methodology alarmed the nations of the free world. The Belgians and opposing political parties propagated the rumors of Lumumba s communist tendencies, vilifying Lumumba. As Lumumba later found out, this was an unfortunate resemblance to bear in the free world. Bearing the alleged connection to communism, Lumumba had to complete the difficult task of unifying a vast landscape with many diverse ethnicities, languages, and political interests. The province of Katanga posed the greatest threat to Lumumba in this respect. Katanga was extremely important as it was the most wealthy and lucrative province in Congo, making it paramount to a successful Congolese nation. Unfortunately for Congo, Moise Tshombe, the leader of Katanga, did not see eye to eye with Lumumba. As demonstrated in film, the leaders of Katanga, with the support of Belgium, sought to secede from the independent Congo, resulting in a frenzy as the soldiers led a Katangese revolt. As a consequence, geopolitical tensions were at their zenith. Mortality is a fact, but no one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe death to be the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture or words. It can prove challenging as no one has experienced deathand lived to tell the tale. Though challenging it has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death. Death be not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died both by Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters. These poems deal with different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals with death in the present tense. The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins spouting their opinions of him. They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power. Next he declares death nothing but a slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the finishing blow comes when the narrator calls death a short sleep. Because once they die they will just live again eternally, instead death will die forever. Donne wrote from a Christian viewpoint, believing death is not worthy of fear.... As I chose to go in business management, I will probably have to deal with employees, hiring and firing some. Thus, I started questioning myself on that. When you have such a short meeting with someone, how can you know if a person is right for the job? Of course, the first impression can influence your choice but then, it would only be based on their appearance not on their competencies. For example, if a women walks in with dirty pink hair and smells bad but has an interesting CV, should it influence my decision in hiring that person? Wouldn t that be discrimination? Nobody should be discriminated for a job for their global appearance or style. However, having employees that have a particularly marginal look can affect the company s image. It is better to avoid that because a good corporate image is hard to build and it is related to a lot of different elements. It has a major impact on the business and translates better money entries and higher stock valuation. It is indeed the manager s job to try to make sure the corporate image takes the right direction by communications, brand selection and promotion, use of symbols in advertising etc. Corporations trying to shape their image are analogous to individuals who will dress appropriately, cultivate courteous manners, and choose their words carefully in order to come across competent, likeable, and reliable. Essay Anterior Cruciate Ligament Anterior Cruciate Ligament With an ever increasing number of people becoming involved with athletic activities, there is an increasing number of injuries occurring which can be devastating for the individual. Most of the injuries that affect athletes occur in one of four structures in the human body: bones, muscles, tendons, or ligaments. Because ligaments attach bone to bone and play a major part in providing stability for joints, the major stabilizing ligament in the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), assists in performing everyday actions of the human body including sitting, standing, walking, running, dancing, and participating in other sports. The injury that specifically affects this ligament is very serious and always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This short and round ligament, like all other ligaments, prevents slippage within the joint and allows the joint to properly pivot when performing an action (Duff 300). Without this particular ligament, the knees would be fragile and more susceptible to injury. Therefore, it would be impossible to do the simplest movements that are done by humans everyday, like walking and even sitting. This is one reason why many athletes should be aware of the physical indications that arise if they have torn their ACL while participating in athletic activities. In many cases, the symptoms that the patient feels after the trauma has occurred can help the doctor make his or her diagnosis. Many times a doctor will ask the patient to recall what happened after the injury was sustained. Usually with an ACL injury, the patient will describe a so called pop or snap that he or she heard during the impact. Pain, which is not terribly excruciating, will immediately follow, and if the individual tries to stand, he or she will be faced with an overwhelming feeling of instability, the leg will buckle under, and the individual will ultimately fall down onto the ground. Although the patient is experiencing pain, he or she cannot point out exactly where the injury has occurred. Black Tailed Prairie Dogs Case Study Discussion on Black Tailed Prairie Dogs LRS Black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) demonstrated an improved long term reproductive success until a disproportionate ratio of helpers to breeders (exceeding amount of helpers to breeders) became injurious to the coterie. In addition, we observed an increased aggression (25% increase) in coteries with more helpers present than smaller ones. Lastly, we found that there was more communication within coteries that contained an average helper pool size than in smaller and larger helper pool size coteries. These factors may have created the results that we observe, such as less competition and how much helpers aid breeders. Less Competition Our results suggest the improved long term reproductive success is due to the number of helpers remaining relatively small. We suppose that having fewer helpers lowers the need for completion and increases communication among individuals within the coteries between individuals. Competition creates among individuals for resources and causes evolution, yet competition can be harmful where too much exists. In brown capuchin monkeys, larger...
