Essay On Prions
Deactivation of Prions in the Healthcare Setting Prions are infectious agents composed entirely of a
protein material which is transmissible to other prion proteins leading to disease in a manner that is
epidemiologically comparable to the spread of viral infection. Prions composed of the prion protein
are believed to be the cause of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies among other diseases. All
known prion diseases are untreatable and fatal.
. Prions, however, are infectious by their effect on normal versions of the protein. Sterilizing prions,
therefore, requires the denaturation of the protein to a state in which the molecule is no longer able to
induce the abnormal folding of normal proteins. In general, prions are quite ... Show more content on

Chemical disinfectants and common thermal or ionizing treatments do not effectively denature the
prion particles. Traditional means of instrument decontamination is not practical for prion infected
utensils. The recommended prion decontamination protocols for reusable surgical instruments and
surfaces recommended by The World Health Organization and The Center for Disease Control and
Prevention have been published and are readily available on CDC s website
(http://www.cdc.gov/prions/cjd/infection control.html) and are detailed below.
The three most stringent sterilization methods for heat resistant instruments described in Annex III of
the WHO guidelines are listed below; the methods are listed in order of more to less severe treatments.
Sodium hypochlorite may be corrosive to some instruments, such as gold plated instruments. Before
instruments are immersed in sodium hypochlorite, the instrument manufacturer should be consulted
about the instrument s tolerance of exposure to sodium hypochlorite. Instruments should be
decontaminated by a combination of the chemical and recommended autoclaving methods before
subjecting them to cleaning in a washer cycle and routine sterilization.

The Bell Curve Dilemma And Performance Appraisal
The Bell curve conundrum
It is a well established fact that employed human capital provides the competitive edge to the firms
operating in the same competitive space. Organizations that have motivated and talented individuals
are likely to forge ahead of the pack, even if they have similar products or services. That is why it is
important that we manage the performance of the employees well. We discuss the goals to be achieved
during the year; provide feedback to employees on their progress and modify the direction as the year
progresses and organizational direction shifts. At the end of the performance year, start pulling
together information and evidence of how well the employees have achieved the goals. Then apply a
rating which will govern their payouts, promotions and compensation and create development plans
for the next year. We cannot fathom anything to go wrong in this textbook laid process. It has been a
best practice after all! But somehow performance appraisal is the most hated organizational practice
by the employees. No one is ever happy with the results of their performance appraisals. Many solid,
successful, and happy employees find their ratings discouraging. At the same time we find the
managers and HR to be fidgeting uncomfortably even after doing everything they could to ensure that
the performers are well fitted in the bell curve. There has to be a better way. Have the companies like
Microsoft, Cisco, Accenture and IBM found the better way by doing

Techmall Case Analysis
1. What are the revenue streams for TechMall?
TechMall s revenue streams are rather simplistic. They receive a $750 one time set up fee from all
new merchants added into the TechMall system and a $50 statement fee, or maintenance fee, per
month from all members. In addition, they receive a fee on each sales transaction, which is variable
based on the dollar volume of the merchant s transactions. TechMall s standard pricing schedule
indicates this revenue stream to be in the form of a 2% commission on all items sold by member
merchants with a maximum commission receivable of $200.
2. What drives or causes each of the revenue streams and how much does Tech Mall expect to earn
from an additional sale in each stream?

Since the transaction fee revenue stream is based on 2% of sales dollars capped at $200 we can see
that sales over $10,000 would not produce any value added for TechMall ($200/2% = $10,000).
Because of this condition, and since we were not provided with specific amounts for each transaction
conducted, we have to simply assume that customers would not spend in excess of $10,000 on an
online tech store such as TechMall.com. This assumption is strengthened when we calculate that the
year 4 average transaction amount is just $58.53, which was calculated by dividing the total
transaction dollars, $87,470,566 by total number of transactions, 1,494,547 ($87,470,566 / 1,494,547

Austria-Hungary s Ultimatum In 1914 Essay
3. Why was Germany s colonial empire so much smaller than Britain s?
Britain has the largest colonial empire, with colonies and dominions all over the worlds. Germany s
colonial empire was a lot smaller than Britain s due to that Britain already had the largest territory in
the world early before Germany existed. Also Germany was still trying to build a large colonial
empire when war broke out. 4. What is meant by the term balance of power politics? Explain both the
benefits and the drawbacks of this system.
In the 1870s, Germany attempted to consolidate its place in European politics creating a system of
alliance. Developing the system of alliance changed nature of Europeans mediation, and resulted in
the development of two associations be made up of all the European authorities. The powers believed
that these alliances would act as a warning to. War, all the members of one alliance was ... Show more

Hardness Of Water For A Given Stock Solution Of Calcium...
HARDNESS OF WATER
Student Name: Gaurav Shriyan
Student ID.: 2275658
Group Name: A1
Date of Experiment: 26th April 2016
Introduction:
Hard water can be defined as water that contains minerals like calcium and magnesium in it. Some
household tap water is supplied with a mix of hard water. The easiest way to determine whether the
water is hard is to use a detergent. Hard water creates less lather compared to normal soft water. This
experiment aims to find the hardness of tap water with the help of a given stock solution of Calcium
Carbonate (CaCO3(aq)) and liquid detergent. We will take three dilution of the stock solution as a
base to find the bubble height, plot them on a graph and get a linear equation of y = mx + c. Using this
equation we will find the concentration of the given tap water. Finally, we will do the error analysis
and conclude the experiment.
Materials and Method:
Materials used for the experiment are as follows:
Stock calcium carbonate solution (CaCO3(aq))
Deionised water
Tap water
Liquid detergent
Boiling tubes
Boiling tube rack
Graduated cylinders
Glass marking pencil
Stoppers
Pipettes
Method:
In this experiment, we first prepared three dilution of the calcium carbonate solution (CaCO3(aq))with
a concentration of 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1 in different graduated cylinder. Each dilution had two samples of
20ml each. Hence, each dilution had two test results and their average is counted as the final result.

Film Crash Meaning
The title of this film, Crash (2004), is significant in at least four different ways. The most obvious
meaning is mentioned in the opening scene where Detective Graham Waters says We think we miss
that touch so much, we crash into each other just to feel something. Detective Waters is referring to
the hundreds of crashes that occur in Los Angles every day that he believes people need to feel alive.
Cars and car crashes are major plot devices that are used in this movie to cause people to meet each
other. Another significance of the title is a crashing of cultures. The film follows certain people as they
experience life in L.A. There is a Mexican locksmith, a Persian store owner, a privileged white family,
an Asian family, a black and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While every moment of grace was important, some were more meaningful than others. My personal
favorite moment of grace was when Officer John Ryan saved Christine Thayer from a burning car that
was about to explode. The night before, the Thayer family was pulled over because the police were
looking for a black Lincoln Navigator that was similar to the car they were driving. Unfortunately, the
family was pulled over my Officer Ryan who was very racist and power hungry. Mrs. Thayer became
very angry during the stop which led to Officer Ryan to fondling her to show that he had the power to
do so. When Mrs. Thayer saw that she was going to be saved by Officer Ryan the next day under the
car, she screamed and didn t want him to touch her. Right before the car ignited, a fellow officer tried
to pull Officer Ryan out to save him, but he refused and crawled back under the car to save Mrs.
Thayer. In true Hollywood fashion, the car exploded as soon as Mrs. Thayer escaped. I think this was
the best moment of grace because all through the film, the viewer hates Officer Ryan for the
unspeakable acts that he does and yet he is still viewed as a hero after risking his life for someone

A History of Gout
Gout is one of oldest form of arthritis that is documented in medicine. It creates a throbbing and
inflammation in the sufferer joints. The Egyptians were the first to identify Gout and it was later
recognized by the Hippocrates in the fifth century BC, who referred to it as the unwalkable disease
(Simkin Nuki, 2006,). Over the course of history, gout has been concomitant lavish amount of liquor
and foods. Gout was known as a monarchs or rich men disease (John Hopkins Medicine) in early
centuries because it was related to a way of life that only the rich could afford. In early centuries gout
was desired communally because it was frequent among the rich and a sign of wealth. Also, if
someone has a gout attack it was looked upon as a preventive method in contradiction of serious
illness. For example, gout prevents other illnesses and prolongs life...could I cure that gout, should not
I have a fever, a palsy, or an apoplexy (Horace Walpole). In addition, historically gout was considered
a disease in middle age men, however the notion that gout could not affect women was proven false.
Seneca, observed, in this age, women rival men in every kind of lasciviousness ... why need we then
be surprised at seeing so many of the female sex afflicted with the gout? (Simkin Nuki, 2006). Gout
disease is a male dominate disease, lately women have been having gout because of high obesity rate
and consumption of high fructose rich products.

Alzheimer s Disease And Its Effects Essay
Dementia is a general term that is used to describe a disease or disorder that affects brain functioning
by a decline in metal ability that can progress enough to interfere with daily life. There are different
forms of dementia, such as Huntington s, Parkinson s, Vascular, and Frontotemporal, but the number
one type of dementia is Alzheimer s disease. According to the Alzheimer s Association, one in nine
Americans older than the age of 65 currently have been diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease.
Alzheimer s disease is an irreversible neurodegenerative brain disorder that slowly destroys memory
and thinking skills. Alzheimer s disease was first discovered by a German physician named Alois
Alzheimer in 1906. It all started in 1887, when Alois Alzheimer graduated from Wurzburg with a
degree in medicine. A year after graduation, Alzheimer spend months helping mentally ill women in a
mental asylum known as Frankfurt Asylum and began his research on the pathological anatomy of the
cerebral cortex. In 1901, Dr. Alzheimer started to closely observe one of the patients named Auguste
Deter. She was a 51 year old women who showed strange behavioral symptoms along with short term
memory loss. Auguste s husband wanted to move her to another mental institution because he couldn t
afford Frankfurt Asylum anymore. Alois Alzheimer would help her stay in the Frankfurt as a trade to
receive her medical records and brain once she dies. Auguste Deter died on April 8, 1906 at the age of

Introduction
Negligence is the most important modern tort: its study should occupy about half the course. It is
important because of the great volume of reported cases and because it is founded on a principle of
wide and general application. This chapter explains the basic structure of the tort and describes the
organisation of the material in subsequent chapters.

Chapter 6 deals with the liability of two particular categories of defendants: that of occupiers towards
those on their premises, and that of employers towards their employees.
2.3
Policy questions
The law of negligence has undergone enormous change and development in the past 50 years. Mostly
this has involved an expansion of liability, but quite often the courts have retreated and cut back on the
extent of liability. This in turn leads to inconsistency and uncertainty. The reasons for this are
complex, but they have in part to do with conflicting policy objectives. The

importance of understanding these policy objectives and the way that they are contributing to the
development of the law was explained in Chapter 1. Here are some of the most important
philosophical and policy issues that you should keep in mind and refer to as you prepare the material
in the next four chapters. The underlying idea in a negligence action is very simple. If the claimant s
injuries result from behaviour that falls short of socially acceptable standards, then there should be
compensation. If they do not, then the victim should bear the loss without compensation. Since
carelessness is not generally criminal, the tort of negligence is the means by which the law attaches
consequences to unacceptable behaviour. Lord Diplock once

Corporal Punishment Is Wrong
Is corporal punishment wrong or is it a vital tool for disciplining our children which without our
society will ultimately continue to degrade its self and cause our fore fathers to roll over in their
graves? Corporal punishment with in reason is not abuse and should be considered a vital tool that is
not out dated and should be used widely and constantly through out the previous and upcoming
generations of man kind. Today with the mostly discontinued use of corporal punishment and generic
discipline our children are becoming less disciplined, more disrespectful, and growing in their
boldness. Before I begin let me explain what corporal punishment is and the controversy that has in
sued in recent moths over it. Corporal punishment is the use of spanking, whipping that is not abusive.

Piaget Cognitive Theory
Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive
development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development
theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal
Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piaget s cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on
children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different
strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages
and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place
between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the
environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In
the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and
understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this
stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance
a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Asking question like Who has
more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for young children to not only understand these
things in the classroom but even more so in the real world. Another way teachers enhance

for hundreds of miles known as the Steppes (). The region of Siberia, which supports one of the
harshest climates in the world, dominates most of Northern Asia and extends the country s borders
further past Europe. This marks it as an influential actor in the international community. Currently,
Russia s president is Vladimir Putin, who was in power from 2000 to 2008 and then reelected in 2012

Russian ruble is only worth 0.017 USD. Along with the country s weak economic growth, Russia s

Russian currency ().
Noticeably, Russia s economic struggles have affected its people, especially those who live in poverty.
Today, roughly 13.4% of Russia s people live in poverty (). For this reason, Russia s economic
inequality continues to be one of its biggest issues. According to the investment bank Credit Suisse,
Russia has the highest rate of inequality in the world with 35% of the household income belonging to

Americanization also works to assimilate the rest of the world to perceive our standard of living
superior, but attainable. Just as foreign nations are encouraged to adopt a capitalistic approach in their
markets, foreign women are encouraged to adopt our definition of beauty. While American women
struggle to maintain a desired weight, foreign women struggle to exhibit American qualities (Derenne,
M.D., and Beresin, M.D.). Cosmo Magazine is an example of this trend exemplifying the fun, fearless
female around the world (see figure 4). Sold in 100 countries, in 34 languages, while reaching 60

Foreign adaption and assimilation is a difficult process for American corporations to achieve,

Ethnic Conflict In The Rwanda Genocide
The Rwanda genocide began in 1994 when an airplane that was carrying the presidents of Rwanda
and Burundi crashed, which triggered an organized campaign of violence against the Tutsi minorities
across the country that was supported by the military and government. Even ordinary citizens were
incited by local officials and the Hutu controlled government to take up arms against them. The
Rwandan genocide can be classified as an ethnic conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi, but research has
failed to find significant ethnic differences between the two groups. The one thing that can be said to
be different is there physical appearance. The exact origins of the Hutus and Tutsis were unknown,
because both groups shared the same language (Kinyarwanda) territory, some cultural practices, they
intermarried and acknowledged the same king. Hence the Hutu and the Tutsi could not be described
correctly as two different ethnic groups.
In Rwanda, about 85 percent of its population was Hutu and the rest was Tutsi, not including one
small percentage of another group. The Hutu was said to have travelled up from the south perhaps
some two thousand years ago and that the Tutsi were possibly a southern Ethiopian tribe who
immigrated into Rwanda around the fifteenth century or several centuries before this. Some of these
early accounts support the theory of a peaceful migration with Tutsi winning the Hutu over through a
complex cattle relationship (Wielenga, 2011). The majority of Rwandans are

History of Economic Thought
History of economic thought
Theorists who have shaped the development of economy and economic thought through the centuries
have invariably been affected by their countries and situations. That this is so can be traced by eh
thoughts of some of the most prominent economic theoreticians that include Smith, Ricardo, Malthus,
Marx, and Keynes. Each of these in turn has produced their own ideas about reproduction of labor
force in classical political economy. Labor has traditionally been related to growth outcome of product
and trade, rise (and as some see it negative influence or increasing rationalization) of capitalism, and
complexity of industrialization. Adam Smith is widely considered the founder of economics and the
father of capitalism. What is less well known is the fact that he was influenced by French philosophers
and writers who shared his dislike of mercantilism. Influenced by these writers, Smith developed the
theory of an invisible hand that became the bedrock of Western Capitalism. Often misquoted, Smith is
both praised and discredited as the father of one of the most influential movements in history. Smith
was the first oen who was prescriptive rather than descriptive and hence the popularity of his system.
According to Smith, in his Wealth of Nations, competition is the foundational source of national
wealth and governments should refrain and abstain from interfering in free trade. On the contrary,
tariffs, taxes, and other regulations should serve purely

The Tension Between National Security And Individual Privacy
The Situation
The tension between national security and individual privacy has long existed even before the
development of digitized information. Recently, two main forces have advanced the debate over this
balance to the forefront of the public eye: 1) the proliferation of data by private sector companies and
2) the heightened need for homeland security and public defense. With the rapid evolution of
technology, companies have aggregated pools of consumer data to improve upon internal decision
making. In some cases, however, this data can be leveraged to ensure national security and public
safety. This juxtaposition of enterprise and security results in a blurring of the line dividing public and
private sector responsibilities. The question becomes an issue of moral obligation versus legal
responsibility. What are we as consumers and citizens willing to sacrifice in exchange for safety? And
does the private sector inevitably succumb to obligations originating from the public sector?
The company on the forefront of this issue is Apple. After the tragic events in San Bernardino, CA on
December 2, 2015, the United States FBI located an iPhone 5C belonging to one of the terrorists. The
FBI, however, was unable to access the phone and formally requested Apple to unlock the device to
facilitate the search for information about the killers. Apple swiftly refused and after several weeks of

Remember September 11, 2001
Many people can look back and remember September 9th, 2001, like it was yesterday. This day will
be forever remembered in America s History. This is the day the world seemed as it stood still. On
9/11, America experienced a major terrorist attack, which hijacked planes were crashed into the World
Trade Centers in New York City, crashed into the Pentagon in the District of Columbia, and had a
plane crash into the fields of Pennsylvania. There are many theories on what actually happened and
who was involved in the 9/11 attack. The most common word is that Islamic terrorists were the main
group involved. It is also said that these terrorists were financed by Osama bin Laden s al Qaeda
terrorist organization. Which is why he was such a wanted man after the attacks. But it wasn t just the
Islamic terrorists who were involved, many say that there were many other Arab nations involved in
some way, such as the planning and details. The location of the attacks were skillfully thought out.
Each hijacked pilot had a mission to complete. A plan to do major damage in one of the most tratisofic
way. The World Trade Center had almost 50,000 people who worked there. That is a huge target to get
people s attention. Alot of the job positions that were filled at the World Trade Center or also known as
Twin Towers, had to deal with trade. Even trade to other countries and nations. Which is another

Condoms a New Diploma Critical Analysis Essay
Critical Analysis In the essay Condoms: the New Diploma , by Rush Limbaugh published in his book
The Way Things Ought To Be in 1992, Limbaugh talks about how distribution of condoms in schools
can lead to teenage promiscuity and encourages sexual activity at an early age. Limbaugh s use of
Reductio ad absurdum counter attacks the opposition s argument on condom distribution and is
effective since it is hard to attack the opposition. Limbaugh attempts to refute his opposition with a
reduction ad absurdum argument. He uses rhetoric example intended to demonstrate his belief that
condoms distributes and promotes sexual activity. He provides his definition of gender and sex roles.
He claims that sex has consequences by using Magic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Limbaugh proves a point that by stating that by giving away condoms they compromise their
standards making his point hard to argue against therefore his tool of using reductio ad absurdum
proves to be effective to the argument. Limbaugh uses another specific example such as Magic
Johnson, a basketball athlete for the Los Angeles Lakers. He uses an adult celebrity to prove a point
that the same stakes are involved as an adult who aren t aware to the dangers of having condom
protected sex. Still using the same tool of reductio ad absurdum, Limbaugh identifies that there are
many people out there that will have sex with others that may have contracted AIDS with or without
using a condom and that many people believe that condoms can help them prevent from spreading
STDs. This tool is proven to be effective since it is hard to argue that adult human beings will have sex
with or without the knowledge that their partner has aids as to teenagers having sex with or without
the knowledge of a condom. Limbaugh uses statistics to prove that condom failure rate can be as high
as 20 percent and compares it to the safety of an airplane. The statistic used for the condom proves to
be incorrect since the failure rate of a condom is very low ranging from 2 to 4 percent if used
correctly. The comparison used between the lives of passengers in a plane to the failure of a condom
used by any being is far off since condoms sold as a

Analysis Of Columbia Pictures A Few Good Men
The following work aims to take a closer look at cultures, leadership and paradigms in Columbia
Pictures (1992) film; A Few Good Men. This film provides many examples of differing cultures as
well as illustrating examples of leadership, management, and followership. Many lessons can be
learned; standing up for what is right and standing up for what you believe in are apparent, as well as
leaders not always making the best decisions. At the end of the day, one must be at peace with the
direction of their own moral compass and actions.
Culture
There were several cultures present in this film, the ones selected for discussion are the culture of the

They utilized specialized legal terms that only individuals in the legal profession would understand.
Espoused values as illustrated by Schein (2009) are: strategies, goals, philosophies (p.21). For the
Marines at Guantanamo Bay, their purpose was to provide security for the Unites States of America
under the guidance of the commanding officer (Col. Nathan R. Jessep). During the trial, Capt. Jack
Ross provided two manuals that Marines are to follow: The Marine Guide and General Information
Handbook for New Recruits and The Marine Corps Guide for Sentry Duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
which provided the basic outline for Marine actions, responsibilities and duties. As for the lawyers
involved, they shared a pre requisite fundamental knowledge of the law. They all had law degrees as
well as being members of the Armed Services. These two cultures, attorney and military produces a
unique culture, having its own terminologies and decorum practices. They had specific responsibilities
and guidelines that had to be followed, as both council and officers. As for underlying assumptions or
shared tacit assumptions, Schein (2009) provides the following description about them: unconscious,
taken for granted belief, perceptions, thought and fillings (ultimate source of values and action) (p.

Neanderthals And The Middle Paleolithic
Neanderthals
Wyatt Rahn
Anthropology 1001 Human Origins
University of Northern Iowa
Neanderthals, also known as Homo neanderthalensis, existed mainly in the time period known as the
Middle Paleolithic in the regions of Europe and southwestern to central Asia. The Middle Paleolithic
took place from about 200,000 years ago until around 45,000 years ago. However, the Neanderthals
still existed for about 15,000 years after that. After the Middle Paleolithic, the Neanderthals existed
alongside anatomically modern humans and most likely interbred with them. Although the species of
Homo neanderthalensis became extinct around 25,000 years ago, their DNA is still present in humans
today. Neanderthals are without a doubt the closest extinct human relatives to modern humans. The
first Neanderthal fossil was not found until the year 1829. This discovery in Belgium would prove to
be one of the most important archaeological findings in history. After several more of these findings
occurred, we have been able to learn countless facts about Neanderthals. Scientists believe they had
very short, stocky, and powerful bodies, along with very strong teeth and jaw bones and a surprisingly
large brain. Neanderthals had the ability to walk bipedally as we do today, and it is believed that they
matured much faster than modern humans. Dental fossil evidence shows that an eight year old
Neanderthal possessed the same dental structure as that of a ten to twelve year old

Character Analysis Of Battleship Potemkin
Battleship Potemkin
The Battleship Potemkin is a film that shows the images of anguish and suffering, even though the
movie has no sound, one can understand the emotion and anguish behind the story. This film showed
how the sailors are being mistreated by the higher ranking officers on the ship. The officers take their
anger out on the sailors in an abusive way and try to make them eat rotten food with maggots in it. All
the sailors start getting sick of the way they are being treated and decide to take a stand, by refusing to
eat the rotten food. This would induce an emotional response from the viewers, because of the human
suffering shown in the film, it can bring out feelings of anger from the audience, as they have empathy
for the sailors. The officers want to punish the sailors, by having the ones who would not eat the soup
to come forward, then they covered them with a tarp and ordered the sailors who were not being
insubordinate to shoot them. This part of the film conveyed a sense of anxiety in the viewers as they
knew this was wrong and unjust. The other sailors realized that it was wrong to shoot their brothers
and refused to shoot them, this caused a big fight among the sailors and the officers. The sailors
outnumbered the officers and threw them overboard and took over the ship. During this scene, the
viewer goes from anger and anxiety, to feelings of relief and elation, although, it is short lived because
the film goes returns to death, loss, and suffering.

Tax Saving Strategies
Tax Saving Strategies over the Holidays
As the year winds down, it can be easy to get caught up in Christmas parties and bonuses without
thinking through the tax ramifications. While it s easy to spend over the holidays, business owners can
also save, with a bit of planning. Here are tax saving strategies for your business over the holidays:
Deduct Christmas Gifts
It s great to acknowledge your employees hard work and what better way to do so than with Christmas
presents? From a tax perspective, your best money saving strategy is to take advantage of gift
deductions, within the set IRS limits.
A business can deduct up to $25 of a business gift you give to each person including employees during
a tax year. To read about the specific details of the $25 limit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To save yourself the burden of having to give the bonus every year just in case you don t make a profit
one year announce the bonus as a one time event.
An S Corp can deduct bonuses to owners and shareholders, provided that they own their shares at the
time when the bonuses are paid. As for C Corporations, the rules are a bit narrower. These
organizations can only claim the bonuses that are paid to owners and shareholders who have 50
percent or higher ownership at the time when the bonuses are paid.
For LLCs, sole proprietorships, and partnerships, the rules differ slightly again. Unfortunately,
bonuses cannot be deducted as business expenses as the IRS considers the owners, members, and
partners to be self employed.
Deduct Employee Awards
If you like to give awards to your employees at Christmas, be sure to keep your receipts for these
items if they are tangible personal property according to your state s tax department. An example of

Similarities Between Spiritual And Spiritual Fears
Before stepping into the similarities and differences among spiritual and physical fears, it is important
to understand the meaning/concept of these two ideas. With my understanding, spiritual fears as said
in the text, is that which is supernatural, far beyond the constraints of a human body, either it is
beyond ... or without the body (Lovecraft, 232). These are fears which are not tangible, or that can be
visibly seen, rather are uncertainties which the individual s body is attempting to cope with against
their internal problems. Moreover, physical fears are quite straightforward, as what the name states,
these are simple worries which are developed through materialism, and lack of ignorance, as often
times individuals are terrified of certain items, such as people, without truly being able to understand
and know them. These things that create uneasiness in society are visible, and commonly dreaded by a
group of people rather than spiritual fears, which tend to be more based on one on one (fear vs one
person). With that said, let us now understand the similarities and differences between these two
factors.
Differences:
To begin with, the first difference I would like to mention is that of spiritual factors being experienced
by individuals thought to be crazy and insane, while additionally these fears being those which are
merely experienced on a one on one basis, and most importantly invisible. For further clarification,
there is merely one victim attempting to

1. a) What are the major global events that occurred in the Proterozoic? (3)
Three global events occurred during the Proterozoic: The oxygen revolution: During the Proterozoic,
biotic system were being established, which gave rise to biomass of the prokaryotic organisms like the
benthic and planktonic photosynthesizing organisms Due to the vast developing diversity of
environment, organisms could well adapt to these various environments, which increased the input of
oxygen on Earth. Hence, in order for the oxygen to be accumulated in the atmosphere, Iron and Sulfur

When oxygen and nitrogen combine in water, it forms nitrate, which is an essential chemical for
eukaryotic algae; however, cyanobacteria do not need nitrate for their survival, contrary, they use
elemental nitrogen. This way, even after the evolution of true algae, even though in fewer quantity,
cyanobacteria remained widespread, and oxygen was accumulated.
c) How do geologists know that the glaciation was widespread early in the
Proterozoic? (2)
Glaciation that are widespread can be identified based on the subglacial tillite, which is a thick layer
of sediments that settle down beneath glaciers or ice caps. On top of this subglacial tillite layer is
deposited marine carbonate, also known as cap carbonate. Based on their paleolatitude designated by
glacial sediments paleomagnetism, it can be determined that these deposits are from equator region.
The interaction between two types of sediments, marine (like carbonate) and subgacially deposited
sediments, indicate that the glaciers had approached marine coastlines.

materials have two unique properties which are interrelated. When a piezoelectric material is
deformed, it gives off a small but measurable electrical material it experiences a significant increase in

The Impact Of Technology And Modern Architecture
Technology and Modern Architecture How has it changed the Architects way of thinking? Ali
Alzahrani Arizona State University Imagine that everything in the life is operated by computers
including people basics duties such as cooking, washing, working, or even thinking instead of the
person. It could be something magnificent for some people, but others would think that technology
would worsen people s lives. Lawler (2005) writes Technology is a problem because we cannot do
without it and our use of it clearly makes us both better and worse (p.194). In other words, the
problem of technology is that it is essential in our lives, but it has negative and positive effects on us.
A look around our everyday surroundings tells us that technology is ubiquitous, and it almost exists in
every aspect of people s lives and architecture is not an exemption from this. Architects cannot move
forward in their designs if they neglect the crucial need of technology nowadays. At the same time,
this technology has affected architects work in general. While some people allege that technology has
not affected the architects manner of thinking, others agree that it has negatively affected the way that
architects think. Also, it has changed the manner in which architects present and deal with their
designs. Decreasing the creativity on starting concepts and impacting the designers imaginations are

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies
Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), or Prion diseases, are a group of
neurodegenerative disorders which include but is not limited to kuru, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD),
Gerstmann Sträussler Scheinker (GSS) syndrome, and fatal familial insomnia in men, natural scrapie
in sheep, goats and mufflons. The first records of neurodegenerative disease which would later be
linked to Prions were made about two hundred years ago. It was in the 1950 s it was discovered that
Prion disease could be transmitted horizontally, in addition to being inheritable and spontaneous.
These findings were sought out by isolated tribes of the New Guinea that were suffering from high
prevalence of a particular TST called Kuru. Some additional history of Prion disease dates back to the
1980 s when an increasing number of cows in the UK became infected with Mad Cow Disease also
known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. This unfortunate epidemic was traced back to a food
supplement that was fed to the cows, this supplement contained mean and bone meal from dead sheep.
A speculation was then drawn that the BSE had been a result of the sheep that had suffered from
scrapie, which is a sheep specific Prion disease. As a result it was decided by the British government
that the banning of animal derived feed supplements. This helped to decrease the disease of cattle
which subsequently disrupted the spread of the disease amongst livestock and animals.

into the patient s tissue, the equipment involved, and the assessment of infiltration to the IV, should be
part of the incident report.
Mandatory Reporting
Every facility is required to document adverse events, which means reporting unexpected/unintended
results that can potentially put the institution at legal risk (Westrick, 2014g). Incidents or adverse
events refer to injuries or potential injuries to a patient. The appropriate report explains the events that
took place without making assumptions throughout any part of the narrative. Yolanda Pinnelas s case
is considered an adverse event for which Jeffrey Chambers should have written an adequate report. An
objective report outlining the facts leading up to the event and the patient s outcome are the foundation
of the report (Westrick, 2014g). Co workers who witness the event should provide written statements
to provide accurate information of the event that took place with a nonbiased perspective.
Doctors and supervisors must be made aware and attend to the unit as soon as possible, which in Ms.
Pinnelas s case, both were summoned and present in the unit when the incident took place. It is
essential that the appropriate documentation specified by the facility is complete to inform risk
management and keep accurate track of these occurrences. Therefore, Jeffrey Chamber, Diana Smith,

  • 2. Essay On Prions Deactivation of Prions in the Healthcare Setting Prions are infectious agents composed entirely of a protein material which is transmissible to other prion proteins leading to disease in a manner that is epidemiologically comparable to the spread of viral infection. Prions composed of the prion protein are believed to be the cause of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies among other diseases. All known prion diseases are untreatable and fatal. . Prions, however, are infectious by their effect on normal versions of the protein. Sterilizing prions, therefore, requires the denaturation of the protein to a state in which the molecule is no longer able to induce the abnormal folding of normal proteins. In general, prions are quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chemical disinfectants and common thermal or ionizing treatments do not effectively denature the prion particles. Traditional means of instrument decontamination is not practical for prion infected utensils. The recommended prion decontamination protocols for reusable surgical instruments and surfaces recommended by The World Health Organization and The Center for Disease Control and Prevention have been published and are readily available on CDC s website (http://www.cdc.gov/prions/cjd/infection control.html) and are detailed below. The three most stringent sterilization methods for heat resistant instruments described in Annex III of the WHO guidelines are listed below; the methods are listed in order of more to less severe treatments. Sodium hypochlorite may be corrosive to some instruments, such as gold plated instruments. Before instruments are immersed in sodium hypochlorite, the instrument manufacturer should be consulted about the instrument s tolerance of exposure to sodium hypochlorite. Instruments should be decontaminated by a combination of the chemical and recommended autoclaving methods before subjecting them to cleaning in a washer cycle and routine sterilization. 1. Immerse in a pan containing 1N sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and heat in a gravity displacement autoclave at 121°C for 30 min; clean; rinse in water; and subject to routine sterilization.[CDC NOTE: The pan containing ... • 3. The Bell Curve Dilemma And Performance Appraisal The Bell curve conundrum It is a well established fact that employed human capital provides the competitive edge to the firms operating in the same competitive space. Organizations that have motivated and talented individuals are likely to forge ahead of the pack, even if they have similar products or services. That is why it is important that we manage the performance of the employees well. We discuss the goals to be achieved during the year; provide feedback to employees on their progress and modify the direction as the year progresses and organizational direction shifts. At the end of the performance year, start pulling together information and evidence of how well the employees have achieved the goals. Then apply a rating which will govern their payouts, promotions and compensation and create development plans for the next year. We cannot fathom anything to go wrong in this textbook laid process. It has been a best practice after all! But somehow performance appraisal is the most hated organizational practice by the employees. No one is ever happy with the results of their performance appraisals. Many solid, successful, and happy employees find their ratings discouraging. At the same time we find the managers and HR to be fidgeting uncomfortably even after doing everything they could to ensure that the performers are well fitted in the bell curve. There has to be a better way. Have the companies like Microsoft, Cisco, Accenture and IBM found the better way by doing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Techmall Case Analysis 1. What are the revenue streams for TechMall? TechMall s revenue streams are rather simplistic. They receive a $750 one time set up fee from all new merchants added into the TechMall system and a $50 statement fee, or maintenance fee, per month from all members. In addition, they receive a fee on each sales transaction, which is variable based on the dollar volume of the merchant s transactions. TechMall s standard pricing schedule indicates this revenue stream to be in the form of a 2% commission on all items sold by member merchants with a maximum commission receivable of $200. 2. What drives or causes each of the revenue streams and how much does Tech Mall expect to earn from an additional sale in each stream? The ... Because of this condition, and since we were not provided with specific amounts for each transaction conducted, we have to simply assume that customers would not spend in excess of $10,000 on an online tech store such as TechMall.com. This assumption is strengthened when we calculate that the year 4 average transaction amount is just $58.53, which was calculated by dividing the total transaction dollars, $87,470,566 by total number of transactions, 1,494,547 ($87,470,566 / 1,494,547 = $58.526). • 5. Austria-Hungary s Ultimatum In 1914 Essay 3. Why was Germany s colonial empire so much smaller than Britain s? Britain has the largest colonial empire, with colonies and dominions all over the worlds. Germany s colonial empire was a lot smaller than Britain s due to that Britain already had the largest territory in the world early before Germany existed. Also Germany was still trying to build a large colonial empire when war broke out. 4. What is meant by the term balance of power politics? Explain both the benefits and the drawbacks of this system. In the 1870s, Germany attempted to consolidate its place in European politics creating a system of alliance. • 6. Hardness Of Water For A Given Stock Solution Of Calcium... HARDNESS OF WATER Student Name: Gaurav Shriyan Student ID.: 2275658 Group Name: A1 Date of Experiment: 26th April 2016 Introduction: Hard water can be defined as water that contains minerals like calcium and magnesium in it. Some household tap water is supplied with a mix of hard water. The easiest way to determine whether the water is hard is to use a detergent. Hard water creates less lather compared to normal soft water. This experiment aims to find the hardness of tap water with the help of a given stock solution of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3(aq)) and liquid detergent. We will take three dilution of the stock solution as a base to find the bubble height, plot them on a graph and get a linear equation of y = mx + c. • 7. Film Crash Meaning The title of this film, Crash (2004), is significant in at least four different ways. The most obvious meaning is mentioned in the opening scene where Detective Graham Waters says We think we miss that touch so much, we crash into each other just to feel something. Detective Waters is referring to the hundreds of crashes that occur in Los Angles every day that he believes people need to feel alive. Cars and car crashes are major plot devices that are used in this movie to cause people to meet each other. Another significance of the title is a crashing of cultures. My personal favorite moment of grace was when Officer John Ryan saved Christine Thayer from a burning car that was about to explode. The night before, the Thayer family was pulled over because the police were looking for a black Lincoln Navigator that was similar to the car they were driving. Unfortunately, the family was pulled over my Officer Ryan who was very racist and power hungry. Mrs. Thayer became very angry during the stop which led to Officer Ryan to fondling her to show that he had the power to do so. When Mrs. Thayer saw that she was going to be saved by Officer Ryan the next day under the car, she screamed and didn t want him to touch her. Right before the car ignited, a fellow officer tried to pull Officer Ryan out to save him, but he refused and crawled back under the car to save Mrs. Thayer. In true Hollywood fashion, the car exploded as soon as Mrs. Thayer escaped. I think this was the best moment of grace because all through the film, the viewer hates Officer Ryan for the unspeakable acts that he does and yet he is still viewed as a hero after risking his life for someone ... Chapter 6 deals with the liability of two particular categories of defendants: that of occupiers towards those on their premises, and that of employers towards their employees. 2.3 Policy questions The law of negligence has undergone enormous change and development in the past 50 years. Mostly this has involved an expansion of liability, but quite often the courts have retreated and cut back on the extent of liability. This in turn leads to inconsistency and uncertainty. The reasons for this are complex, but they have in part to do with conflicting policy objectives. The 14 University of London External Programme Chapter 2 Negligence: basic principles importance of understanding these policy objectives and the way that they are contributing to the development of the law was explained in Chapter 1. Here are some of the most important philosophical and policy issues that you should keep in mind and refer to as you prepare the material in the next four chapters. Jean Piaget s cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Ethnic Conflict In The Rwanda Genocide The Rwanda genocide began in 1994 when an airplane that was carrying the presidents of Rwanda and Burundi crashed, which triggered an organized campaign of violence against the Tutsi minorities across the country that was supported by the military and government. Even ordinary citizens were incited by local officials and the Hutu controlled government to take up arms against them. The Rwandan genocide can be classified as an ethnic conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi, but research has failed to find significant ethnic differences between the two groups. The one thing that can be said to be different is there physical appearance. The exact origins of the Hutus and Tutsis were unknown, because both groups shared the same language (Kinyarwanda) territory, some cultural practices, they intermarried and acknowledged the same king. Hence the Hutu and the Tutsi could not be described correctly as two different ethnic groups. In Rwanda, about 85 percent of its population was Hutu and the rest was Tutsi, not including one small percentage of another group. The Hutu was said to have travelled up from the south perhaps some two thousand years ago and that the Tutsi were possibly a southern Ethiopian tribe who immigrated into Rwanda around the fifteenth century or several centuries before this. • 19. History of Economic Thought History of economic thought Theorists who have shaped the development of economy and economic thought through the centuries have invariably been affected by their countries and situations. That this is so can be traced by eh thoughts of some of the most prominent economic theoreticians that include Smith, Ricardo, Malthus, Marx, and Keynes. Each of these in turn has produced their own ideas about reproduction of labor force in classical political economy. Labor has traditionally been related to growth outcome of product and trade, rise (and as some see it negative influence or increasing rationalization) of capitalism, and complexity of industrialization. Adam Smith is widely considered the founder of economics and the father of capitalism. What is less well known is the fact that he was influenced by French philosophers and writers who shared his dislike of mercantilism. Influenced by these writers, Smith developed the theory of an invisible hand that became the bedrock of Western Capitalism. Often misquoted, Smith is both praised and discredited as the father of one of the most influential movements in history. Smith was the first oen who was prescriptive rather than descriptive and hence the popularity of his system. • 20. The Tension Between National Security And Individual Privacy The Situation The tension between national security and individual privacy has long existed even before the development of digitized information. Recently, two main forces have advanced the debate over this balance to the forefront of the public eye: 1) the proliferation of data by private sector companies and 2) the heightened need for homeland security and public defense. With the rapid evolution of technology, companies have aggregated pools of consumer data to improve upon internal decision making. In some cases, however, this data can be leveraged to ensure national security and public safety. This juxtaposition of enterprise and security results in a blurring of the line dividing public and private sector responsibilities. The question becomes an issue of moral obligation versus legal responsibility. What are we as consumers and citizens willing to sacrifice in exchange for safety? And does the private sector inevitably succumb to obligations originating from the public sector? The company on the forefront of this issue is Apple. After the tragic events in San Bernardino, CA on December 2, 2015, the United States FBI located an iPhone 5C belonging to one of the terrorists. On 9/11, America experienced a major terrorist attack, which hijacked planes were crashed into the World Trade Centers in New York City, crashed into the Pentagon in the District of Columbia, and had a plane crash into the fields of Pennsylvania. There are many theories on what actually happened and who was involved in the 9/11 attack. The most common word is that Islamic terrorists were the main group involved. But it wasn t just the Islamic terrorists who were involved, many say that there were many other Arab nations involved in some way, such as the planning and details. The location of the attacks were skillfully thought out. Each hijacked pilot had a mission to complete. A plan to do major damage in one of the most tratisofic way. The Middle Paleolithic took place from about 200,000 years ago until around 45,000 years ago. However, the Neanderthals still existed for about 15,000 years after that. After the Middle Paleolithic, the Neanderthals existed alongside anatomically modern humans and most likely interbred with them. This film showed how the sailors are being mistreated by the higher ranking officers on the ship. The officers take their anger out on the sailors in an abusive way and try to make them eat rotten food with maggots in it. All the sailors start getting sick of the way they are being treated and decide to take a stand, by refusing to eat the rotten food. This would induce an emotional response from the viewers, because of the human suffering shown in the film, it can bring out feelings of anger from the audience, as they have empathy for the sailors. The officers want to punish the sailors, by having the ones who would not eat the soup to come forward, then they covered them with a tarp and ordered the sailors who were not being insubordinate to shoot them. This part of the film conveyed a sense of anxiety in the viewers as they knew this was wrong and unjust. The other sailors realized that it was wrong to shoot their brothers and refused to shoot them, this caused a big fight among the sailors and the officers. • 29. Similarities Between Spiritual And Spiritual Fears Before stepping into the similarities and differences among spiritual and physical fears, it is important to understand the meaning/concept of these two ideas. With my understanding, spiritual fears as said in the text, is that which is supernatural, far beyond the constraints of a human body, either it is beyond ... or without the body (Lovecraft, 232). These are fears which are not tangible, or that can be visibly seen, rather are uncertainties which the individual s body is attempting to cope with against their internal problems. Moreover, physical fears are quite straightforward, as what the name states, these are simple worries which are developed through materialism, and lack of ignorance, as often times individuals are terrified of certain items, such as people, without truly being able to understand and know them. These things that create uneasiness in society are visible, and commonly dreaded by a group of people rather than spiritual fears, which tend to be more based on one on one (fear vs one person). With that said, let us now understand the similarities and differences between these two factors. Differences: To begin with, the first difference I would like to mention is that of spiritual factors being experienced by individuals thought to be crazy and insane, while additionally these fears being those which are merely experienced on a one on one basis, and most importantly invisible. For further clarification, there is merely one victim attempting to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(2) Glaciation that are widespread can be identified based on the subglacial tillite, which is a thick layer of sediments that settle down beneath glaciers or ice caps. On top of this subglacial tillite layer is deposited marine carbonate, also known as cap carbonate. Based on their paleolatitude designated by glacial sediments paleomagnetism, it can be determined that these deposits are from equator region. The interaction between two types of sediments, marine (like carbonate) and subgacially deposited sediments, indicate that the glaciers had approached marine coastlines. 2. a) What reasons are there for the Wopmay orogen being referred to as a modern style orogen? It could be something magnificent for some people, but others would think that technology would worsen people s lives. Lawler (2005) writes Technology is a problem because we cannot do without it and our use of it clearly makes us both better and worse (p.194). In other words, the problem of technology is that it is essential in our lives, but it has negative and positive effects on us. A look around our everyday surroundings tells us that technology is ubiquitous, and it almost exists in every aspect of people s lives and architecture is not an exemption from this. Architects cannot move forward in their designs if they neglect the crucial need of technology nowadays. At the same time, this technology has affected architects work in general. While some people allege that technology has not affected the architects manner of thinking, others agree that it has negatively affected the way that architects think. Also, it has changed the manner in which architects present and deal with their designs. Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), or Prion diseases, are a group of neurodegenerative disorders which include but is not limited to kuru, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD), Gerstmann Sträussler Scheinker (GSS) syndrome, and fatal familial insomnia in men, natural scrapie in sheep, goats and mufflons. The first records of neurodegenerative disease which would later be linked to Prions were made about two hundred years ago. It was in the 1950 s it was discovered that Prion disease could be transmitted horizontally, in addition to being inheritable and spontaneous. These findings were sought out by isolated tribes of the New Guinea that were suffering from high prevalence of a particular TST called Kuru. Some additional history of Prion disease dates back to the 1980 s when an increasing number of cows in the UK became infected with Mad Cow Disease also known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. This unfortunate epidemic was traced back to a food supplement that was fed to the cows, this supplement contained mean and bone meal from dead sheep. A speculation was then drawn that the BSE had been a result of the sheep that had suffered from scrapie, which is a sheep specific Prion disease. As a result it was decided by the British government that the banning of animal derived feed supplements.
