Physician Assisted Suicide Fast Facts
Image yourself laying in a hospital bed with a terminal illness that has taken over your whole body
slowly. You are in a room that has nothing in it but the bed, a bathroom, and maybe a dresser if you
are lucky for your belongings. This room is nothing like yours at home. The walls are very depressing
with no pictures of family that bring back the amazing memories you ve shared in the past. The
furniture in the room is not that special chair that your great grandmother gave you that you have had
for years, but is a chair that many strangers have sat in. You are hooked up to many loud machines.

It stated that in Oregon since 1997 prescriptions have been written for 1,327 people and 859 of them
have died from ingesting the drug (Physician Assisted Suicide Fast Facts). In Washington since 2009,
prescriptions have been written for 549 people and there have been 529 reported deaths (Physician
Assisted Suicide Fast Facts). According to the Department of Health in Vermont since May 2013,
there has been 2 prescriptions written (Physician Assisted Suicide Fast Facts). California obviously
doesn t have any statistics to report yet because the law making assisted suicide legal won t go into
place until June 9th, 2016. I wanted to see some numbers because it helps me realize the good thing
about assisted suicide. Just because the drug is prescribed does not mean that the patient has to take it.
Some don t take it at all, and some wait weeks after to take it. I like that the patient has that freedom
and is able to make the choice on when to take the prescription drug.
When I found out that we were going to be doing a research project I knew that I wanted to do my
paper over physician assisted suicide because it is very interesting to me and something that I wanted
to learn more about. When I first heard about it I was at work. I work at Regent Park Health and
Rehab. I work with residents every day that are bedbound for the rest of their lives. Some that can do
nothing on their own. I wanted to do research on this because I didn t know where it was legal and
what the requirements where. While I was researching about this topic one story hit me really

Piaget Today
Child development does not mean developing your child into the person you think they should be, but
helping them develop into the best person they are meant to be.
― Toni Sorenson
Jean Piaget was a leader in the field of developmental psychology, the study of how people grow.
Instead of continuing the Freud s work with psychoanalysis, as many psychologists and philosophers
did at the time, Piaget stayed closer to his teacher Pierre Janet s psychology (Vidal) Best known for his
theory on stages of cognitive development, Piaget was a great innovator and set up the foundation for
today s psychology and education.
Working with children from the early 1920s to the late 1970s, Piaget discovered that there are four
stages of mental development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations, and formal
operations ( Jean Piaget ). Each stage is defined by what a child is or is not able to do, as well as
specific milestone accomplishments. Beginning at the sensorimotor stage, the focus of cognitive
development for children from birth to age 2 is to distinguish themselves from the objects around
them. The main accomplishment of this stage is for the child to develop object constancy. When first
born, children are unable to recognize or understand that when an object is not in sight, it still exists

A Summary Of Remember The Alamo
In the December of 1835, during the Texas Revolution, the Alamo was occupied by two hundred
Texan soldiers located near the present day in San Antonio. The Alamo was a church in the middle of
San Antonio. William Travis and James Bowie were the commanders who were prepared to defend the
Alamo from the Mexicans who wanted it back. Unfortunately, the Texan soldiers were outnumbered to
secure the Alamo from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by thousands of his soldiers. The battle
was only for thirteen days and Santa Anna slaughtered everyone except for a few such as a widowed
wife named Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson, her infant daughter Angelina, and the one person who
witnessed the final assault and survived named Joe. For the Texans, the battle of the Alamo is an
image of brave resistance and a rallying cry in their battle for freedom. This urged more Texans to join
the military and lead the following fight to triumph against Mexico. The battle cry Remember the
Alamo! within Texas culture was a symbol of Patriotic sacrifice. If we had known about Remember
the Alamo! it s all thanks to Joe who came out of the battle witnessing all of the hardships of the
battle. Joe was an African American slave who became an Alamo Legend. He was born into a slavery
from Kentucky in about 1813. He was also the brother of a well known abolitionist and novelist,
William Wells Brown. He was moved to Missouri and then later to Texas, where he was owned by

Coastal Adaptation Research
The association of length of residency with attitudes toward publicly provided community wide
services has long been documented in the literature outside of economics (Kelsy 1998; Spain 1993).
Within economics _and despite the ubiquitous studies in the valuation literature that address
preference heterogeneity as it relates to measures of socioeconomic status (e.g. age, gender, education
and income) _ research that considers duration of residency as a potential source of preference
heterogeneity is relatively rare. Among the few available studies are Cho et al, (2005; 2008) and
Johnston et al. (2003) whose findings suggest that welfare for land conservation attributes is
significantly different depending on length of residency. That is, willingness ... Show more content on

The first approach uses years of residency in the town as a continuous predictor. The second approach
categorizes this continuous predictor and create indictors to allow for discrete shifts in preference.
Categorization of the continuous variable in our case is not arbitrary, rather it distinguishes those who
had not been Old Saybrook residents before the past four year (prior to the survey implementation).
This period (between 2010 and 2014) has bracketed three flooding related events that had enjoyed
media coverage (Nor easter, Irene and Sandy). In addition to the subjective measure of years of
residency, we estimate the model with an objective measure of years of residency obtained (for most
of the targeted subjects in the survey sample) using Interactive Online 2013 Flood Maps for the town
of Old Saybrook. Years of residency is inferred using the date of the property ownership, which is
derived from the Property Record Card for each targeted

Memories of the Atomic Bomb Shown in Children Are Game ...
Ask any two people if they remember where they were on 9/11 and you will receive a stunningly
detailed description. However, if you ask those same two people for a detailed account of what
happened that day you would receive two vastly different stories. Why is that? Well, memory is a very
subjective thing. Public memory is subject to even more hazy recollections. Scholars, witness, and
government officials all have different versions about the details. Often times it is artists who bring
together these accounts by creating work which encourages public discussion. Two such artists are
Isabelle Gardner, writer of the poem Children Are Game and Andy Warhol, painter of Atomic Bomb .
These two artists contribute to the collective memory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One could argue these children and the public memory of the bombs are similar. People knew the
bomb was deadly, but continued to support the development of more bombs in the same way the
children must have known what they were doing was dangerous, but they too continued risk their lives
regardless of the warnings they must have received from their parents. Both the children and the
people of the times are exhibiting purposeful forgetfulness. They both refuse to acknowledge what
they are doing could be dangerous and have created a powerful trap for themselves. Gardner writes
bombs can blossom in any season and people stuck in these delusions about the bomb not being a
tremendous threat to humanity will be unprepared to deal with other of life s unpleasant realities.
(Line 14) According to poet critic Ralph Mills, Gardener was most known for her ability to showcase
The hidden fears and hesitancies we nourish in ourselves in a twisted effort to avoid encounters with
the multifarious realities of the universe we inhabit (191). Her metaphor between children and society
forgetting the dangerous natures of their activities in this poem is an excellent example of her this
ability to reflecting back society s feelings about current events and contribute her own version of the
bomb story to the collective memory of society. Gardner not only challenged the collective memory of
society of the time, she also uses the poem s structure to show a cycle of memory and

Q Shoot them? Can you elaborate on that?
Ya, well It happened in DQ.Jamie and I were there and then Sazer showed up. Jamie walked over and
told Sazer he was not smart enough to go college or join the marines.I knew that Jamie was crossing

Pythagoras And Ancient Athenian Culture
Pythagoras and Ancient Athenian Culture
The ancient Greeks did not always possess the deeply creative and accepting culture imagined by
society today. They started off as very ritualistic and stubbornly polytheistic, rejecting those who
denied the gods and ostracising people who seemed unpious. While some of these traits never
disappeared, others became more like the Greeks we recognize today starting in the fifth century BCE.
It was around this time that Pythagoras lived and taught. Today we remember him as the founder of
much of modern mathematics, but at the time he was also the founder of a religious and philosophical
sect that carried on for centuries after his death. It can be argued that his teachings, with their mix of ...

Pythagoras was not only a mathematician; in fact it is sometimes doubted whether the math we
attribute to him was actually his own work or simply reprocessing of the work of others. He was
instead generally seen as a religious figure and was the leader of what is sometimes referred to as a
cult. He was described as part philosopher, part priest, and part conjuror and had a lot of bearing in
both the religious and scientific views of his time. He believed that religion and science were indeed
one and the same, with math serving as a pathway for discovering the workings of the universe. This
belief was controversial, and many philosophers referred to Pythagoras sarcastically, but it was a
belief that would continue onward throughout Greek history in the minds of other philosophers, such
as Aristotle. It was the basis for the interest in mathematics and astronomy, because he taught that by
learning the movement of the heavenly bodies, or planets, humans would be able to find the formula
for all movement in the universe and predict future events.
His belief in the immortality of the soul also persevered into the new intellectual shift. It was based on
the traditional myth of Hades, the land of the dead, but put forth further logical conclusions.

Thomas Jefferson Failures
Thomas Jefferson once said, When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the
government fears the people there is liberty. Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the
one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most
likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas
Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the
Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the
University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the
Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in
governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for
them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in
the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non Intercourse act
resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief.
While Thomas Jefferson s tenure in office proved to be a failure, he was successful in some aspects of
his presidency. His Inaugural Address of 1801 was very empowering and centered around the theme
of reconciliation. Jefferson talked about how we are all Federalists and Republicans. Jefferson stressed
in his speech on how we must remain united, not

Summary Of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning And Oscar Wilde s...
Welcome back to another episode of Poetry Aloud , today we ll be exploring the tumultuous period
known as the Victorian Era. A time of societal upheaval, poets who were motivated by their negative
experiences of humanity used poetry as a vehicle to change the nature of attitudes in Victorian
England. Within the pantheon of Victorian poets, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Oscar Wilde
illustrated this changeable nature of Victorian England through attempting to transform the values
contemporary to their time by challenging injustices within their society. As an era of emerging
industrialisation and suppressive puritanical values, Browning and Wilde called for societal and
legislative change through accentuating the suffering experienced by ... Show more content on

Considering that Browning heard the actual cries of the children whom she so poignantly bemoans in
her poem, it is evident that her ballad is rather a cry for the children. Her didactic poem is an articulate
attempt to motivate legislative change for exploited children through challenging the injustices they
experienced from their suppressors, in which she questions if they ask [children] why they stand
weeping sore... in our happy Fatherland? This rhetorical question challenges those that exploit the
young for the sake of their own selfish prosperity through contrasting the misery of exploited children
against the shallow exuberance of industrialised England. Browning further elucidates the abhorrence
of child labour by offering exploited children a voice to reveal their experiences of suppression, in
which she uses direct speech to portray them as commenting that It is good when it happens, say the
children, That we die before our time! Browning protests for change through challenging the
obscenity of child labour, highlighting that death seems to be an alluring alternative to the misery
exploited children experienced as they are crippled by the suppressive machine of industry. Browning
uses poetry as a vehicle to protest for legislative change through challenging the

Should Students Be Able To Graduate In Three Years
Most kids now want to graduate in three years, but it s not as easy as they think, they will have to
work really hard. Students should be able to graduation in three years instead of four. It will lead to
success and much more lately in life. I agree that students should be able to graduate in three years
instead of four, by start making money, attended college early, and decrease high school dropouts.
First off, students can make money earlier by graduating faster. For example by getting a job early
they can have more experience in the work force. Teen having more experience will have better
chance of getting a job that provides more money. The teen experience will increase rapidly through
time. This will benefit them by providing them

The Strategic Intent Of Each Company
Introduction
Technology Products was bought out in 1986 by a manufacturing firm from Cleveland. This firm, in
turn, sold the electronics division plants which manufacture computer chips to different investors.
From this sale, the two plants were divided into separate companies, Acme Electronics and Omega.
(Daft, 2015, p. 171) The purpose of this case study analysis is to look at the strategic intent of each
company, their organizational goals, and how each company performed while competing for a major
photocopier manufacturer s project.
Background
As stated earlier, Acme and Omega were originally under the umbrella of Technology Products. The
electronics division was sold and split up into separate entities. Attention will now turn to ... Show

Acme
Acme Electronics have established the following organizational goals increased profitability that
reflects the overall performance, increased productivity and high volume output, retention of original

Essay On The Impact Of 1968
THE IMPACT OF 1968
The world revolution of 1968 of course primarily concerned a series of major political issues: the
hegemony of the United States and its world policies, which had led it into the Vietnam war; the
relatively passive attitude of the Soviet Union, which the 1968 revolutionaries saw as collusion with
the United States; the inefficacy of the traditional Old Left movements in opposing the status quo. In
retrospect, 1968, the year of global revolt halfway between the end of World War II and the end of the
Cold War, looked like a failed revolution. Nonetheless, the impacts of 1968 formulated ever gradually
progressing definitions of today s world system.

The belief among the protestors that the Old Left was deluded up with the establishment and had
become an obstacle to the stimulus of social change led to the inception of the New Left. Moreover, its
improvisations formulated the upheavals to be existentialist in nature with an aim to solidify humanity.
Thus, arose the revolutionary movements focus on various social issues such as peace activism, anti
racism, feminism, environmentalism and so on. These issues were of a social trend rather than
political or economic one. They were not trying to reform the system. They wanted to dismantle the
corporate system they have concluded had failed them.
Some of these student groups became a major part of the New Left, a broad based political movement
that challenged existing forms of authority, while others embraced a counterculture that promoted
sexual liberation and unabashed drug use. Moreover, the escalation of protests intensified to be
inclusive of other movements who sought to seize the opportunity to broadcast their own interests.

Moving To A New School Essay
Madison Tritico
ENGL 1301 B07
Dr. Kovar
19 September, 2015
As an easy going person, I have never thought of the world as a harsh place. However, after going
through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped me
understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying needs
to come to an end.
I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly.
Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small
town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large and so
was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother felt bad for
me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was going to the
same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing homework and
sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making friends. I even told
her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan and I quickly became
friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school. Little, did I know, that
becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever.
I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. I walked into the
enormous building and was so overwhelmed

Journalism and the Internet
Journalism and the Internet
The development of new technologies and mass media influenced dramatically modern culture. In
actuality, people spend a considerable part of their life while watching television and surfing Internet.
At the same time, today, mass media become more and more diverse offering the audience different
products in order to attract a possibly larger amount of viewers. In such a situation, many companies
operating in entertainment industry and television attempt to conduct marketing researches and
develop effective marketing strategies to introduce their products to the mass audience. For this
purpose, they use a variety of tools, such as questionnaires, audience measurements, ratings, face to
face interviews and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the Internet allows journalists to communicate with their audience. What is meant here is
the fact that unlike other mass media, the Internet is truly interactive to the extent that journalists and
audience can exchange ideas freely without any significant limitations. For instance, journalists can
receive a feedback from the audience in a matter of minutes after the material they have prepared is
published on the web. In such a way, journalists can receive the feedback from the audience and
develop their professional work taking into consideration needs and wants of the audience or simply
sharing their ideas with the audience attempting to persuade the audience, and so on. In other words,
the Internet is becomes not just a means of bombardment of the audience with information that leads
to the overwhelming impact of media on the consciousness of people. Instead, the Internet becomes
the means of communication between the audience and journalists.
The commercialization of modern media affects the work of journalists and the development of mass
media at large. In this respect, it should be said that some specialists have a very interesting and
original view on the influence of advertising and mass media on consumers and on consumers
themselves. For instance, Naom Chomsky treats consumers as product. In order to understand his
point of view it would be enough to study

Salmon Facts
Salmon Fish Facts.
Various species of salmon span from Alaska and to the Pacific Ocean, with each species reproducing
in the same fascinating way. The uncommonly high amount of omega 3 fatty acids found in salmon
make it a popular nutritional choice for good health. While there s been an increase in demand for
salmon, there s been a subsequent decrease in the wild salmon population; in an effort to reverse this
decrease, salmon farms were created and now account for the majority of the world s salmon.
Facts About Salmon
The Pacific Ocean houses the majority of wild salmon, including the Cherry salmon and the group of
fish known as the Alaskan salmon which consists of: the Chinook salmon, the largest of all the Pacific
salmon; the Chum, sometimes known as the dog salmon; the Coho salmon, or silver salmon; the Pink
salmon, the smallest of all the Pacific salmon; and the Sockeye, also known as the Red or the
Blueback, salmon. The other two species of salmon include the Atlantic salmon, the only salmon to

attack or stroke. They promote healthy cell functioning, which aids in brain development and
performance. Omega 3 fatty acids also reduce inflammation in the joints, helping to alleviate arthritis
pain. While some prefer buying their omega 3s at health food stores, eating salmon is in fact healthier
than taking fish oil capsules; instead, supplementing these capsules for the natural intake of omega 3
fatty acids can actually cause heart problems. Salmon also serves as a good source of protein, vitamins

Analysis of the Poem War Photographer
War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy In his darkroom he is finally alone with spools of suffering set
out in ordered rows. The only light is red and softly glows, as though this were a church and he a

It is seen that the photographer s feelings are brought out in two contrasting situations, at home and
while at warfront. The poet continues to describe the sufferings of the photographer when his mental
state is compared as he is travelling between the two contrasting worlds one the warfront which is full
of destruction and chaos and the other is Rural England, probably countryside that is peaceful and
serene. He compares the pain of war to simple pain of changing weather back at home in England.
There being nothing worse then the harsh weather that the children have to face as against the mines
that explode on the running feet of the children affected by war. This only tells us that the
photographer longs peace and he is deeply moved by the affected children. His prolonged thoughts are
presented with great effect by the use of enjambment in this line and this adds to the effect of
continuity of thoughts. From a realistic tone the poet moves on to a mysterious tone when she opens
this third stanza with something is happening. Probably something unforgettable, frustrating and
unbearable is happening. This is unfolded in the subsequent line, half formed ghost, it s the body of a
dead soldier which seems to be haunting the photographer who is dead. His conscience is pricking him
for he had to seek the dead soldier wife s s permission

The Role Of The CIAAid In Afghanistan
The CIA has played a prominent role combating radical Islamic groups in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and
the Middle East since 1979. After the soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, the CIA even funded
some of these groups in order to embarrass their main enemy at the time, the Soviet Union. They did
not, however, account for the fallout that would occur after the Soviets left. To a certain extent, the
terrorist attacks on 9/11 were a blowback from CIA policies in that region, and the attacks, arguably,
could have been prevented.
Firstly, it is important to understand the reasoning for the United States to support the Afghani rebels,
or the Mujahedeen, against their Soviet invaders. Afghanistan was a mess. In 1978, the President

The Theories Of Schizophreni Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain...
The four theories that are behind the cause of schizophrenia as referenced in the PowerPoint are
Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain Abnormalities, and Nature vs. Nurture / More than one cause.
1. Dopamine
Definition
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. It is one of the chemicals that is responsible for transmitting signals
between the neurons of the brain. However, very few of those neurons actually produce dopamine.
(psychologytoday.com)
Theory
The main theory concerning dopamine is that too much it can result in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic
medications that are used to treat schizophrenia block dopamine receptors. The purpose of these
medications is to bind the dopamine receptors to the brain, and some of their effects have helped
people cope with the symptoms. (healthcommunities.com) The regions of the brain that are affected
by dopamine are known as the striatum and the thalamus. Schizophrenia results have shown that in
these regions in the brain, there are altered levels of D2 binding potential. Patients that have
schizophrenia who do not take antipsychotic medications will have a lower thalamic D2 binding
potential. So, schizophrenia patients that go untreated have a higher number of D2 receptors in the
striatum. (psychcentral.com)

China s Nuclear Program And The State s Stance On...
Introduction As one of the largest economies and a powerful strategic player in the world, the People s
Republic of China has come to be one of the most dominant and successful nations in regards to
nuclear power throughout the globe. China s nuclear infrastructure and expansion has served as a
foundation for China s current nuclear energy industry. What is more, the People s Republic of China,
along with France, the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom, is one of the five states that are
allowed to possess nuclear weapons as stablished by the Non Proliferation Treaty. This paper aims to
discuss the history behind China s nuclear program and the state s stance on nuclear weapons and
nuclear energy, followed by the countries position regarding the current nuclear program of Iran.
Introduction to China s Nuclear Program The roots of China s nuclear program dates back to the early
1950s with Mao Zedong in power and his desire to establish a nuclear weapons program during the
First Taiwan Strait Crisis as a strategy to increase his political and diplomatic credibility against the
United States and the rest of the world. China s first advance on nuclear weaponry occurred in the
early 1960s with the first nuclear test. Years later, the state made remarkable advances in the field of
nuclear weapons field by launching the first nuclear missile in the late 60s and detonating its first
hydrogen bomb in 1967 (Yun Zhou, 2011). China s nuclear industry moved into a

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to compare of using 17α methyltestosterone (17α MT), pawpaw (Carica papaya)
seeds powder (PSP), and neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves powder (NLP) as reproductive controller
agents for Oreochromis niloticus. This experiment was divided into three consecutive periods; the first
period was the treating period with dietary 17α MT, PSP, and NLP, for 71 days. Then, the second
period for rearing the obtained fingerlings till the adult stage for 190 days. While, the third period was
conducted for 90 days for spawning the mature treated fish. The treatments were (T1) hormone
untreated mixed sex fry (control); (T2) fry treated with 60 mg 17α MT / kg diet for 28 days; (T3) fry
treated with 6 g PSP / kg diet for 45 days and (T4) 1 g NLP / kg diet for 60 days. In treating period,
results revealed that differences in all growth performance parameters and FCR among all treatments
were not significant. In rearing period, results showed that fish treated with 17α MT gave the highest
significant (P ≤ 0.05) values of growth performance, highest male percentage and economic efficiency
followed by PSP, then NLP compared to the mixed sex group. While, the

Ghost In The Wires Summary
Ghost in the Wires is a story of Kevin Mitnick s life. I find the book s topic compelling because I have
always been interested in doing what Kevin does: hacking and working with what makes technology
tick. He also opened my eyes to a new culture called phreaking . As I read, the book became even
more interesting, as Kevin not only told us what he did; he told us how he did it descriptively. He told
us comedic stories about pranks he would pull on businesses with his colleagues, his close run ins
with authority, and other tales that made me smile. Along with this were personal problems he
encountered, such as his divorce with Bonnie Vitello, and the involvement of the government in his
activities online, which made me feel closer to him as

International Financial Transactions Take Place Worldwide...
Nowadays international financial transactions take place worldwide. Most of the big companies of the
United States and other countries have decided to expand their operations, products, and services out
of the country, turning the traditional economy in a globalized economy. Under these new
circumstances, the financial management became more complexity. The complexity of the process is
caused due to companies have to deal with monetary interactions with all countries participating in the
market such as currency exchange rates, international monetary systems, inflation, tax system and
government law, and issues of international financial management including political risk and foreign
exchange risk inherent in managing multinational corporations. In this new market s scene is where
the international finance management has become an important tool for multinational companies.
Currently, without a vast experience in this theme, is hard to last in the market because there is marked
different between international and domestic financial markets. The companies that have trained their
managers in international finance matters can help the organization to achieve high levels of efficiency
and effectiveness in all markets around the world.
There are many aspects that we have to consider to understand the real concept of international
financial management. The following terminology is present in all the markets worldwide:

good their government is, what contribution that Kim Jong II and Kim II Sung did for the country,
even though in the classrooms, there are always two portraits of these leaders to remind people the
significance of them. In addition, many students in North Korea have admired their leaders as great

The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid
To Aid or Not to Aid
Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the
mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid,
through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to
mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the
Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment,
medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common
foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations
such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and
promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary
to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies
improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States
and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city,
state, or country. Most people think that a large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. In
contrast, according to Rutsch (2015), the U.S. spends less than 1 percent of the federal budget on
foreign aid . With the state of the world today,

The Plato of the Apology
Western philosophy, beginning with the dialogues of Plato, is premised upon both the rejection of the
artform of tragedy and the rejection of experiences and events considered to be tragic. This general
and far reaching exclusion of the tragic originates from Plato s dissension made in The Republic of the
normative claims defined by nearly all tragic and epic poetry regarding the question of how a human
being should live. Tragedy, merely by being tragedy, expresses the following evaluative commitments
regarding human life: One, events beyond the agent s control have the ability to play a major role in
her ability to lead an ethical and moral life. Two, tragedy validates forming emotional attachments to
people and objects beyond the agent s control. And three, sympathy, fear, and pity for the tragic hero
demonstrate the recognition of certain ethical truths, truths which may be applied to everyday life of
the audience members. Plato flatly denies all three of these claims. The Plato of The Apology states
that a good person cannot be harmed. The good person is self sufficient. Both uncontrollable events
and the fate of external objects or people have no effect on the virtuous person. She remains virtuous
no matter the circumstances. Additionally, returning to The Republic, Plato denies the cognitive value
of emotions. Thinking connected to the emotions necessarily focuses on the immediate, the finite, and
the uncontrollable, and, therefore, the false. Poetry must be banned

hold the ribs in place were made out of specially selected driftwood or caribou antler. The seal skin

dried beach grass to make sure it was waterproof. The skins are then lashed onto the frame and then
oiled with seal oil and then caulked with a mixture of moss and seal oil. (Delta Discovery) The shape
of a qayaq is the most important characteristic to determine whether it will flow well in the water.
When a qayaq floats, it displaces an amount of water that is equal to its weight because water is
incompressible. When the qayaq is moving, it displaces more water. The amount of displacement
depends on the weight of the qayaq and the speed it is moving. If the path of the water was blocked,
say by a flat front, more energy would be needed to move the qayaq. This is why streamlining, or
laminar flow is important and needs to be considered when looking at the physics of a qayaq.

The Merger Is A Final Reorganization Essay
1. The merger is a qualifying reorganization. It is a forward triangular merger, §368(a)(2)(D), because
the parent (ODI) created a subsidiary (Atlantic) with the contribution of its stock (the ODI Nonvoting
Preferred Stock), and then the target (CPI) merges into the subsidiary (Atlantic). CPI s shareholders
will receive the nonvoting preferred stock of ODI, and CPI will disappear. The requirements necessary
under §368(a)(2)(D) is that the subsidiary acquires substantially all of the target s assets, which will be
90% of net and 70% of gross. This does occur because Atlantic acquires all of CPI s assets and
liabilities. Typically, stripping off a target s assets are prohibited, but in this case the subsidiary is
acquiring the cash received from the sale of the tools division. Another requirement is that the target s
shareholders only receive stock of the parent and not the subsidiary, and in this case, the stock
transferred to CPI s shareholders are all ODI s stock. Another requirement is that the target is merged
into the subsidiary, which does occur; CPI merges into Atlantic and Atlantic survives. The final
requirements are the judicial authority requirements. There is a continuity of shareholder s interest
test, just like required in a type A merger. Even though not all three shareholders of CPI receive shares
of ODI, Harry s and Teresa s ownership is greater than 50% of CPI. Harry owns 60% (300/500) of
CPI and Teresa owns 22% (110/500) of CPI. It also meets the

Is there a special chemical that can melt ice fast? If you add salt to ice with a bit of water it can lower
the freezing point of water lowering the temperature enough for it to melt and keep it from freezing
again. The salt can lower the freezing point of ice through a process that is called freezing point

The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants
Abstract
Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is
harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish
plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that
the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants
two experimentals and one control were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After
the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid
water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies,
therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as
it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it
could potentially destroy the ecosystem.
Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish
plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of
acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of
7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it will be
possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops.

Childhood is a social construct that has been weaved together by societal norms and domineering

society as time has progressed. In Karen Sanchez Eppler s excerpt titled Childhood from the novel
Keywords for Children s Literature, she explains how the attitudes and atmosphere surrounding
childhood have vastly changed throughout history to yield the general, modern conception of
childhood. Children have been deemed adults in the Middle Ages and childhood has been a vaguely

Peter unveils how children encounter similar difficulties as adults do in society since children do live
in a society where there is an organized hierarchy of injustice, struggle, and real world issues. The
rivalry between groups in Neverland is explicit when the lost boys [are] out looking for Peter [and] the
pirates [are] out looking for the lost boys (Barrie 112). In Neverland this frenzy occurs as there is a
mutual disdain between the pirates and the lost boys. The lost boys are playful and rambunctious with
the presence of their leader Peter while the pirates are vexed by the boys attitudes, especially since
there [never has] been a cockier boy than Peter (91). Captain Hook also seeks to kidnap the young girl
Wendy from the lost boys so that Wendy shall be [his] mother and fill the gap of his traumatic past
with his parents (146). This tension between the lost boys and the pirates represents the unsteadiness
between conflicting social groups that naturally exist in the world of adults. This situation also does
not represent typical, innocuous play and is rather a grave activity of fighting that the children in
Neverland confidently participate in. The ubiquitous struggle for power commonly seen in the adult
world when fighting a war or striving for new heights in a job position is mimicked as Captain Hook
attempts to steal Wendy from Peter. Peter s leadership role in being involved with the logistics of

New Forest Background
Few people realise the important role that the New Forest played in World War II. Its strategic location
on the south coast meant that the New Forest was crucial in a range of operations and is home to a
wide range of World War II installation. Whilst some of these are still visible today, many have been
hidden by soil and vegetation or lost during land management activities. There where many aspects off
the war that happened in the new forest, there main operations the the new forest played a big part in

airfields within the New Forest, and was active between the years 1943 to 1946, with post war
activities continuing until its closure in 48. From 1944 onwards, Stoney Cross changed role from

from the airfield site on a tree covered hill the remains of Battle Headquarters can still be found, a
stark reminder of the area s wartime history. All of the airfields wee used by the UK royal air force
and USA air forces. At Ibsley it was home to typhoons and spitfires, Beaulieu mainly hosted bomber
and fighter planes and Stoney Cross dealt with aircraft carries and squadrons. Despite having many
airfields, the new forest was home to many decoy sites, these proved very useful especially at night
time a when the Germans tried to bomb the airfields, they made the decoy sites very bright this drew
the bombers attention to these sites so they dropped there bombs on plain fields instead of on planes

Explanation of the Importance for Stakeholder buy in and for a Champion The stakeholders are the
shareholders, managers, and employees. The current situation has caused a dilemma that affects all
stakeholders equally. When the business is at risk, everyone involved should be concerned about the
future of the organization. However, the responsibility falls to the senior leaders of the organization to
solve the current issues. However, holding 80% of the company s stocks is concerned not only about
the organizations current issues but also with the value of his investment, as he gets closer to
retirement. This creates an ethical dilemma due to his personal finances and retirement being directly
affected by the company s performance. In addition, the CEO believes that the status of the
organization is not as bad as some of the senior leadership team would say. The shareholders interest
is purely profit. The impact of how Huffman Trucking runs the business and implements change has a
direct reflection on the company s image. The company s image will influence sales, which in turn

Amadeus
Most biography movies usually are told from the point of view of a person whose name is in the title.
The movie Amadeus by Milos Forman is about the famous musician and composer, Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart, but the movie is not told from his point of view but from his rival, Antonio Salieri
played by F. Murray Abraham. The story is set in 1823 as the elderly Antonio Salieri is placed in a
lunatic asylum for attempting suicide. He launches into a long confession about his relationship with
Mozart which set the main story to 1781. Amadeus is a period drama film. The main idea about this

for the prince Archbishop of Salzburg. Salieri goes to the performance hoping to meet Mozart. He is
convinced that Mozart s genius must be a gift from God. He secretly observes Mozart but was shock
to discover that rather than the Mozart he imagined, Mozart is in fact boorish, irreverent, and lewd. In
1781, when Mozart meets the emperor, Salieri presents Mozart with a March of welcome . After
hearing the march only once, Mozart plays it from memory, tactlessly critiques it, and improvise a
variation. This leads to his 1786 opera The marriage of Figaro . Faced with Mozart s genius, Salieri

The Crimes Of The Person Act ( Oapa 1861 )
In 1861, the Offences Against the Person Act (OAPA 1861) was introduced to give distinction
between various criminal acts towards other people. However, from its inception it has created the
requirements for defences for the numerous offences. One of the most complex of these is the defence
of consent, the one to be considered here. With regard to this problem, it is necessary to identify any
crime that has been committed, examine how consent will apply and analyse how satisfactory the law
is on this topic. I will first discuss what crimes Wilbur has committed followed by whether he can
indeed use the defence of consent before finishing with my own thoughts on the law and how this area
could possibly benefit from reform.
Under s.20 of the OAPA 1861, Wilbur has committed the crime of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH)
against Ewan. Despite only meaning to cause bruising which would count as battery, Wilbur has
caused a much more serious offence in GBH albeit unintentionally. Wilbur did not mean to cause
GBH but s.20 of the above act enables him to be charged for GBH without meaning it, as it brings a
recklessness element into play. Under s.20, the defendant must have the intention or be reckless as to
the causing of some harm. There is no need for the prosecution to establish that they intended or was
reckless as to causing serious harm. In the case of DPP v Smith , grievous bodily harm was defined as
really serious harm, which the ripping off of two fingers definitely satisfies.

Identifying and Solving Bulimia
In Fiji, before television came about in 1995, the island had no reported cases of eating disorders.
Within three years of obtaining American and British television programming, more than two thirds of
the Fijian girls developed eating disorders and three quarters of the girls felt fat (Hall 1 2). Now,
eating disorders are becoming more and more common as the years go by. Bulimia has been around
for thirty years and people are still not very familiar with the harm it can do physically and
emotionally. Bulimia nervosa can destroy not only a person s life but others around them, and it can be
stopped with support and counseling.
Eating disorders in America are common. One or two out of 100 students will struggle with one (

If someone shows signs of depression or extreme mood swings they could also have bulimia. Bulimics
can suffer from anxiety and substance abuse. Furthermore, the bulimic person is contradictory,
illogical, and irrational when it comes to picking foods to eat. Bulimics feel powerless to stop eating.
They only stop once they are too full to eat anymore.
Bulimics show severe behavioral signs. They eat uncontrollably and have strict dieting plans for
themselves. They use the bathroom frequently after meals and do extreme exercises to keep
weight off even if the weather is bad or they are in pain. Bulimics have many methods to lose weight
besides vomiting. They take laxatives, diuretics, enemas, diet pills, or insulin. Bulimics are obsessed
with weighing, measuring, and looking at themselves in the mirror. Sometimes they refuse to eat until
they come up with a negotiation to eat if they are allowed to purge and continue starving themselves.
They hide food and argue over certain foods that they will or will not eat.
Bulimia happens for numerous reasons. It is normal for a person s body to get bigger when it is
growing. Most people take that in a bad way though, so they do anything they can to get rid of that
newly added weight. Some young people use it to postpone growing up; this may explain why college
students are

You are in a room that has nothing in it but the bed, a bathroom, and maybe a dresser if you are lucky for your belongings. This room is nothing like yours at home. The walls are very depressing with no pictures of family that bring back the amazing memories you ve shared in the past. The furniture in the room is not that special chair that your great grandmother gave you that you have had for years, but is a chair that many strangers have sat in. California obviously doesn t have any statistics to report yet because the law making assisted suicide legal won t go into place until June 9th, 2016. Piaget s Theory On Stages Of Developmental Psychology Piaget Today Rebecca Biddle English 101 Mrs. Rufino 17 December 2015 Rebecca Biddle Mrs. Rufino English 101 9 December, 2015 Piaget Today Child development does not mean developing your child into the person you think they should be, but helping them develop into the best person they are meant to be. ― Toni Sorenson Jean Piaget was a leader in the field of developmental psychology, the study of how people grow. Instead of continuing the Freud s work with psychoanalysis, as many psychologists and philosophers did at the time, Piaget stayed closer to his teacher Pierre Janet s psychology (Vidal) Best known for his theory on stages of cognitive development, Piaget was a great innovator and set up the foundation for today s psychology and education. Working with children from the early 1920s to the late 1970s, Piaget discovered that there are four stages of mental development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operations, and formal operations ( Jean Piaget ). Each stage is defined by what a child is or is not able to do, as well as specific milestone accomplishments. Beginning at the sensorimotor stage, the focus of cognitive development for children from birth to age 2 is to distinguish themselves from the objects around them. The main accomplishment of this stage is for the child to develop object constancy. When first born, children are unable to recognize or understand that when an object is not in sight, it still exists (TB.) This is what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Summary Of Remember The Alamo In the December of 1835, during the Texas Revolution, the Alamo was occupied by two hundred Texan soldiers located near the present day in San Antonio. The Alamo was a church in the middle of San Antonio. William Travis and James Bowie were the commanders who were prepared to defend the Alamo from the Mexicans who wanted it back. Unfortunately, the Texan soldiers were outnumbered to secure the Alamo from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by thousands of his soldiers. The battle was only for thirteen days and Santa Anna slaughtered everyone except for a few such as a widowed wife named Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson, her infant daughter Angelina, and the one person who witnessed the final assault and survived named Joe. For the Texans, the battle of the Alamo is an image of brave resistance and a rallying cry in their battle for freedom. This urged more Texans to join the military and lead the following fight to triumph against Mexico. The battle cry Remember the Alamo! within Texas culture was a symbol of Patriotic sacrifice. If we had known about Remember the Alamo! it s all thanks to Joe who came out of the battle witnessing all of the hardships of the battle. Joe was an African American slave who became an Alamo Legend. He was born into a slavery from Kentucky in about 1813. He was also the brother of a well known abolitionist and novelist, William Wells Brown. He was moved to Missouri and then later to Texas, where he was owned by Colonel William ... Within economics _and despite the ubiquitous studies in the valuation literature that address preference heterogeneity as it relates to measures of socioeconomic status (e.g. age, gender, education and income) _ research that considers duration of residency as a potential source of preference heterogeneity is relatively rare. Among the few available studies are Cho et al, (2005; 2008) and Johnston et al. This period (between 2010 and 2014) has bracketed three flooding related events that had enjoyed media coverage (Nor easter, Irene and Sandy). • 6. Memories of the Atomic Bomb Shown in Children Are Game ... Ask any two people if they remember where they were on 9/11 and you will receive a stunningly detailed description. However, if you ask those same two people for a detailed account of what happened that day you would receive two vastly different stories. Why is that? Well, memory is a very subjective thing. Public memory is subject to even more hazy recollections. Scholars, witness, and government officials all have different versions about the details. Often times it is artists who bring together these accounts by creating work which encourages public discussion. Two such artists are Isabelle Gardner, writer of the poem Children Are Game and Andy Warhol, painter of Atomic Bomb . These two artists contribute to the collective memory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One could argue these children and the public memory of the bombs are similar. People knew the bomb was deadly, but continued to support the development of more bombs in the same way the children must have known what they were doing was dangerous, but they too continued risk their lives regardless of the warnings they must have received from their parents. Both the children and the people of the times are exhibiting purposeful forgetfulness. They both refuse to acknowledge what they are doing could be dangerous and have created a powerful trap for themselves. Gardner writes bombs can blossom in any season and people stuck in these delusions about the bomb not being a tremendous threat to humanity will be unprepared to deal with other of life s unpleasant realities. (Line 14) According to poet critic Ralph Mills, Gardener was most known for her ability to showcase The hidden fears and hesitancies we nourish in ourselves in a twisted effort to avoid encounters with the multifarious realities of the universe we inhabit (191). Her metaphor between children and society forgetting the dangerous natures of their activities in this poem is an excellent example of her this ability to reflecting back society s feelings about current events and contribute her own version of the bomb story to the collective memory of society. • 8. Pythagoras And Ancient Athenian Culture Pythagoras and Ancient Athenian Culture The ancient Greeks did not always possess the deeply creative and accepting culture imagined by society today. They started off as very ritualistic and stubbornly polytheistic, rejecting those who denied the gods and ostracising people who seemed unpious. While some of these traits never disappeared, others became more like the Greeks we recognize today starting in the fifth century BCE. It was around this time that Pythagoras lived and taught. Today we remember him as the founder of much of modern mathematics, but at the time he was also the founder of a religious and philosophical sect that carried on for centuries after his death. It can be argued that his teachings, with their mix of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pythagoras was not only a mathematician; in fact it is sometimes doubted whether the math we attribute to him was actually his own work or simply reprocessing of the work of others. He was instead generally seen as a religious figure and was the leader of what is sometimes referred to as a cult. He was described as part philosopher, part priest, and part conjuror and had a lot of bearing in both the religious and scientific views of his time. He believed that religion and science were indeed one and the same, with math serving as a pathway for discovering the workings of the universe. This belief was controversial, and many philosophers referred to Pythagoras sarcastically, but it was a belief that would continue onward throughout Greek history in the minds of other philosophers, such as Aristotle. It was the basis for the interest in mathematics and astronomy, because he taught that by learning the movement of the heavenly bodies, or planets, humans would be able to find the formula for all movement in the universe and predict future events. His belief in the immortality of the soul also persevered into the new intellectual shift. It was based on the traditional myth of Hades, the land of the dead, but put forth further logical conclusions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thomas Jefferson believed the best government was the one that governs the least . Jefferson stressed how a small government with limited powers is most likely to leave the people alone and have them enjoy the Blessings of Liberty. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson was a man who had numerous accomplishments in his life. He was the author of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom, founder of the University of Virginia, and the third President of the United States. His strict interpretation of the Constitution was due to his belief that the charter was designed to provide the people with a say in governmental affairs. Mr. Jefferson won the approval from the working class because he fought for them and not the powerful interests of the wealthy. Although Jefferson was a vocal and active leader in the rights of states, his recommendation of the Embargo Act and his support of the Non Intercourse act resulted in his failure as the Commander In Chief. While Thomas Jefferson s tenure in office proved to be a failure, he was successful in some aspects of his presidency. • 10. Summary Of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning And Oscar Wilde s... Welcome back to another episode of Poetry Aloud , today we ll be exploring the tumultuous period known as the Victorian Era. A time of societal upheaval, poets who were motivated by their negative experiences of humanity used poetry as a vehicle to change the nature of attitudes in Victorian England. Within the pantheon of Victorian poets, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Oscar Wilde illustrated this changeable nature of Victorian England through attempting to transform the values contemporary to their time by challenging injustices within their society. Considering that Browning heard the actual cries of the children whom she so poignantly bemoans in her poem, it is evident that her ballad is rather a cry for the children. Her didactic poem is an articulate attempt to motivate legislative change for exploited children through challenging the injustices they experienced from their suppressors, in which she questions if they ask [children] why they stand weeping sore... in our happy Fatherland? This rhetorical question challenges those that exploit the young for the sake of their own selfish prosperity through contrasting the misery of exploited children against the shallow exuberance of industrialised England. Browning further elucidates the abhorrence of child labour by offering exploited children a voice to reveal their experiences of suppression, in which she uses direct speech to portray them as commenting that It is good when it happens, say the children, That we die before our time! However, after going through an intimidating incident, my view on the world is forever changed. Being bullied helped me understand what some kids are going through everyday, and I have come to realize that bullying needs to come to an end. I never once believed I would be bullied; I expected every person I talked to, to treat me fairly. Moving to a new school and a new place changed the way I portrayed others. I came from a small town, with about 4,000 people, to a city with ten times more the population. The city was large and so was my new school. I was so scared of what was to come of my new school. My mother felt bad for me and introduced me to her friend s daughter, Jordan. Jordan is my age and she was going to the same school I was. We became friends before school started and made plans of doing homework and sitting together at lunch. I told her my worries of finding my classes and making friends. I even told her about the cute boy, who was now my next door neighbor, Kenny. Jordan and I quickly became friends and I was beginning to become confident on attending a new school. Little, did I know, that becoming her friend would change my perspective on life, forever. I eventually learned to choose my friends wisely on my first day of sophomore year. The four theories that are behind the cause of schizophrenia as referenced in the PowerPoint are Dopamine, Glutamate, Brain Abnormalities, and Nature vs. Nurture / More than one cause. 1. Dopamine Definition Dopamine is a neurotransmitter. It is one of the chemicals that is responsible for transmitting signals between the neurons of the brain. However, very few of those neurons actually produce dopamine. (psychologytoday.com) Theory The main theory concerning dopamine is that too much it can result in schizophrenia. Antipsychotic medications that are used to treat schizophrenia block dopamine receptors. The purpose of these medications is to bind the dopamine receptors to the brain, and some of their effects have helped people cope with the symptoms. (healthcommunities.com) The regions of the brain that are affected by dopamine are known as the striatum and the thalamus. Schizophrenia results have shown that in these regions in the brain, there are altered levels of D2 binding potential. Patients that have schizophrenia who do not take antipsychotic medications will have a lower thalamic D2 binding potential. So, schizophrenia patients that go untreated have a higher number of D2 receptors in the striatum. (psychcentral.com) 2. • 31. The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid To Aid or Not to Aid Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid, through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment, medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city, state, or country. • 33. The Plato of the Apology Western philosophy, beginning with the dialogues of Plato, is premised upon both the rejection of the artform of tragedy and the rejection of experiences and events considered to be tragic. This general and far reaching exclusion of the tragic originates from Plato s dissension made in The Republic of the normative claims defined by nearly all tragic and epic poetry regarding the question of how a human being should live. Tragedy, merely by being tragedy, expresses the following evaluative commitments regarding human life: One, events beyond the agent s control have the ability to play a major role in her ability to lead an ethical and moral life. Two, tragedy validates forming emotional attachments to people and objects beyond the agent s control. And three, sympathy, fear, and pity for the tragic hero demonstrate the recognition of certain ethical truths, truths which may be applied to everyday life of the audience members. Plato flatly denies all three of these claims. The Plato of The Apology states that a good person cannot be harmed. The good person is self sufficient. Both uncontrollable events and the fate of external objects or people have no effect on the virtuous person. She remains virtuous no matter the circumstances. Additionally, returning to The Republic, Plato denies the cognitive value of emotions. When a qayaq floats, it displaces an amount of water that is equal to its weight because water is incompressible. When the qayaq is moving, it displaces more water. The amount of displacement depends on the weight of the qayaq and the speed it is moving. If the path of the water was blocked, say by a flat front, more energy would be needed to move the qayaq. • 36. The Merger Is A Final Reorganization Essay 1. The merger is a qualifying reorganization. It is a forward triangular merger, §368(a)(2)(D), because the parent (ODI) created a subsidiary (Atlantic) with the contribution of its stock (the ODI Nonvoting Preferred Stock), and then the target (CPI) merges into the subsidiary (Atlantic). CPI s shareholders will receive the nonvoting preferred stock of ODI, and CPI will disappear. The requirements necessary under §368(a)(2)(D) is that the subsidiary acquires substantially all of the target s assets, which will be 90% of net and 70% of gross. This does occur because Atlantic acquires all of CPI s assets and liabilities. Typically, stripping off a target s assets are prohibited, but in this case the subsidiary is acquiring the cash received from the sale of the tools division. Another requirement is that the target s shareholders only receive stock of the parent and not the subsidiary, and in this case, the stock transferred to CPI s shareholders are all ODI s stock. Another requirement is that the target is merged into the subsidiary, which does occur; CPI merges into Atlantic and Atlantic survives. The final requirements are the judicial authority requirements. There is a continuity of shareholder s interest test, just like required in a type A merger. Even though not all three shareholders of CPI receive shares of ODI, Harry s and Teresa s ownership is greater than 50% of CPI. Harry owns 60% (300/500) of CPI and Teresa owns 22% (110/500) of CPI. • 40. The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants Abstract Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants two experimentals and one control were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of 7, a neutral liquid. In Neverland this frenzy occurs as there is a mutual disdain between the pirates and the lost boys. However, from its inception it has created the requirements for defences for the numerous offences. One of the most complex of these is the defence of consent, the one to be considered here. With regard to this problem, it is necessary to identify any crime that has been committed, examine how consent will apply and analyse how satisfactory the law is on this topic. I will first discuss what crimes Wilbur has committed followed by whether he can indeed use the defence of consent before finishing with my own thoughts on the law and how this area could possibly benefit from reform. Under s.20 of the OAPA 1861, Wilbur has committed the crime of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) against Ewan. Despite only meaning to cause bruising which would count as battery, Wilbur has caused a much more serious offence in GBH albeit unintentionally. Wilbur did not mean to cause GBH but s.20 of the above act enables him to be charged for GBH without meaning it, as it brings a recklessness element into play. Under s.20, the defendant must have the intention or be reckless as to the causing of some harm. There is no need for the prosecution to establish that they intended or was reckless as to causing serious harm.
