2. Mabo Laramie
English Life Writing Essay In the two life writing pieces, Mabo and Laramie both share similar and
different themes as well as codes and conventions. The film Mabo, directed by Rachael Perkins,
revolves around the true story of Eddie Mabo and his decision to continue to fight for his land and
peoples rights. The audience is persuaded to side with Eddie throughout the use of point of view and
bias. The Laramie project, by Moises Kaufman and the members of the tectonic theatre project,
follows the actions and communications of the Laramie people after the horrific manslaughter of
Matthew Shepard. The two life writing pieces, Mabo and Laramie both share the same key theme

hearts of Russell Henderson and Aaron McKinney in which lead to the death of Matthew Shepard, had

Mabo, when Eddie had won the Supreme Court case, his family felt as sense of relief and justice for

when the court case hearing was held and Matthews s father had openly expressed how he felt about
the matter at hand. Dennis Shepard stated Every time you celebrate Christmas, a birthday, the fourth

3. Identity Theft Essay examples
Introduction
There is currently a huge growing number of criminals that now do greater and more widespread
damage to their victims without ever meeting them. Identity theft surfaced in the early 1990s and
turned peoples everyday transactions into a data gathering game. Bits of personal information such as
bankcards, credit card accounts, income, social security numbers or just someone name, address, and
phone numbers are now collected and could be used illegally by these individuals without anyone s
knowledge.
The purpose of this study is to investigate what is being done to help control this growing crime in

Abusing employer s authorized access to credit reports or some even playing landlord has given them
unauthorized access to victim s reports. Some victims have been scammed fro information by an
identity thief posing as a legitimate businessperson or government official. In the most recent news
from Concord, NC (Aug. 19, 2004), the police have uncovered a more sophisticated case of ID theft.
The newspapers stated, Authorities think a portable credit card reader, or skimmer, was used to read
personal information off a credit card s magnetic strip. Then those details were applied to the strip on
the back of a different cared.
Information gathered from various nationwide newspapers have indicated that some employees of
companies that handle personal consumer information such as banks and utility companies, among
others, have emailed confidential loan files to unauthorized third parties. This inappropriate employee
use of email can result in identity persecution of the customer who have entrusted them with their
personal data.
The thieves, who now have the information they need, proceed with going on spending sprees at the
expense of the victim. They open new accounts in their name and SSN, write bad checks against a
checking account or run up the charges on a credit card, then leave them unpaid.

technology. Today a smartphone is able to do all the functions that a computer can normally do and
with the passage of time, we see the grasp of smartphones and tablets getting firmer on our lives.
According to Ahmed (1991, p.25) a clear and strong brand image of can drastically increase the

It helps them to better understand the customer segment that is probably the largest chunk of their
market share. They understand as to what brand is preferred by students, what their age and gender is
and most importantly, how much are they willing to spend on technology. This helps them to make
future decisions that can be vital for the company. Alongside this, it also gives them an understanding
of competition and helps them analyze how far ahead or behind the market they are and accordingly
steps can be taken in the future by the company.
For this study, we used surveys using surveymonkey.com and a sample of 66 students was taken
altogether. This sample helps us analyze the student preference for brands and the time and money
they spend on technology.

gender of the respondents:
The chart above shows us that 68.18% of the respondents were males and the remaining 31.82% were
females. Overall the responses that we got from the survey were satisfactory and they give us a
reasonable representation of the student preferences for technology here at CULC. However, we must

7. Compare And Contrast Virginia And New England Colonies
In the New World, various resources, climates, and considerable amounts of land allowed numerous
opportunities for settlers. Those who once yearned to climb the social ladder or gain the freedoms
bestowed from land ownership flocked toward the newfound settlements. Colonization proved to be a
grueling task; however, success was found after adapting to the new environment and facing many
hardships. Two colonies established early in the seventeenth century included Virginia and New
England. Both Virginia and New England were forerunning settlements that differed in the following
senses: political, social, and economical. Politically, Virginia and New England differed in the basis of
their governing systems. Virginia focused on the desire of its individuals: (t)hat our governors by
reason of the corruption of those times they lived in, laid the foundation of our wealth and industry on
the vices of men. This standard of government was an early precursor to democracy and allowed
Virginian s to feel the rights of being freemen. New England, instead of basing their government on
the individual desires of man, governed the colony on the basis of Christianity. The New England
settlers strongly believed the spirit of God would deliver them and create greatness in the colony: the
God of Israel is among us, and ten of us shall be able to resist a thousand of our enemies. The Lord
will make our name a praise and glory. The colony wanted to be set above the rest, or in other words,

Another young woman, Ella Thomas, described her pregnancy in a manner that further complicates
interpreting historical pregnancy. While having a miscarriage, Ella describes herself as sick but does
not appear to be bothered by the event. Despite experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, Ella does not
describe her pregnancy within these terms. If anything, she finds her symptoms a nuisance (Thomas).
Furthermore, her own pregnancy has led her to sympathize with other pregnant women. She mentions
in the diary that if she had sole management of a plantation that pregnant women would be highly
favored...whether black of white (Thomas). The distinction of sole management here is fascinating
because it implies that her husband would not be in charge in this case, and that if he were in charge
he would be less likely to show favor to pregnant women because he personally could not understand
the experience (Thomas).
Eventually, Ella becomes worried for her health when more serious symptoms begin to manifest. Her
symptoms are so severe that she they frighten [her] with fears of sickness and cause her to call for her
doctor. She notes however, that her physician Dr. Edward Eve does nothing to help her or to alleviate
her symptoms. Days later, her pregnancy miscarries, which she colloquially refers to as an abortion
(Thomas). Despite the bodily trauma, Ella s diary entries continues in good spirits. The actual
miscarriage, she notes, did not scare her, it only

sociological aspects of her enthralling century old life. The Issues Facing Later Adulthood According

10. The Two Components Of Blood Pressure
1. The two constituents of blood pressure are systolic pressure and diastolic pressure; the highest and
lowest pressure readings during ventricular systole and diastole, respectively. Pulse pressure is the
difference between these two readings and represents the blood being pushed into the aorta from the
left ventricle. However, a blood pressure value can be given as an average pressure in the arteries
which forces the flow of blood from the heart. This value is the mean arterial pressure (MAP). Cardiac
output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) are the physiological determinants of MAP. CO is
the volume of blood pumped by one ventricle in a given period of time (Silverthorn, 2007). It is
determined by the heart rate (HR), which is the number of beats per minute, and the stroke volume
(SV), which is the volume of blood pumped by a ventricle during a contraction. Venous return is the
volume of blood with returns to the heart via the vena cava. With reference to the Frank Starling
relationship, if CO increases, venous return should also increase, however changes in vasoconstriction
can affect the venous return, thus effecting MAP. According to Poiseuille s Law, the radius of the
arterioles directly impacts the resistance of blood flow to peripheral circulation, which is termed TPR.
Blood volume also impacts the MAP. A larger blood volume will exert more pressure on the arterioles
and therefore increase blood pressure. Furthermore, the kidneys can filter the blood

Messina Spartans football coach Eddie Rake, who is one of the most victorious coaches in high school
football history, Rake is both feared and loved by his players and by a town that relishes his 13 state
titles. The protagonist of the novel is Neely Crenshaw, who is a former Rake All American whose NFL
prospects ended quickly after a cheap shot to the knees. In the book, Neely has just returned home for
the first time in years to join his former teammates to sit in the bleachers and wait for the dimming
field lights to signal his passing. During this time they replay the old games, relive the glory days and
try and decide whether they love or hate their former coach, Eddie Rake. This trip back for Neely is
more meaningful as he has to forgive himself as well as his coach and try and rekindle his love for his
ex girlfriend he abandoned long ago so he can get on with his life. It is obvious to see the positive
values and appropriate nature of Bleachers.

12. Essay On The Clarinet
One of these, the chalumeau (a term also used for a double reed instrument), was known to Denner;
apparently his attempts to refine the chalumeau led to his invention of the clarinet. (Adullah, M et al.
2015). Johann Christoph Denner was a German musician who is said to have created the first known
clarinet. He made and improved many woodwind instruments. He also had children who helped him
work. Johann Christoph Denner created the clarinet, worked interdependently to innovate ways to
overcome the small note range of the chalumeau, and illuminated the world by making the chalumeau
into what is now a common modern day instrument.
Johann Christoph Denner created the clarinet soon after 1698 (Barrett, G. 1999). (Adullah, M et al.

Many bands and orchestras today include clarinet players. Marching bands are usually also seen with
clarinet players. The clarinet s tone is really very complimentary to strings and vice versa (Denner, J.

be used in many different pieces by different people. His friend, Anton Salder was a virtuosic basset

instrument is loved for its beautiful sound. In conclusion, the clarinet is well known instrument that

Arbutin Arbutin, from the dried leaves of bearberry, blueberry, cranberry, and pear trees, is a naturally

It is said that history may not repeat itself but it does rhyme. This old adage bears special importance
as it pertains to America s history in trade policy. In both Charles Harley s, International
Competitiveness of the Antebellum American Cotton Textile Industry, and Robert Feenstra s, How
Costly is Protectionism? we see this connection as the two authors analyze how protectionist policies
can be applied to certain situations and more importantly how these policies may transcend across
time. Given the Trump administration s current stance on protectionist policies in international trade, it
is critical to understand the lessons which history presents and apply them accordingly. As President

Feenstra talks about the implications of imposing trade deals or tariffs that could negatively affect a
partner and how that could alter relationships against the interest of America. Moreover, he discusses
the fact that increased isolationism from the free trade world could impede on the development of
countries who export goods to the United States as they attempt to grow and stabilize their developing
economies. Feenstra quotes a study from 2009 saying, developing countries lose $8 billion from the
quotas and tariffs applied to textiles by the industrial countries increasing foreign deadweight loss,
which again decreases overall world economy efficiency (Feenstra 167). The American economy is
greatly involved and vital to the world economy in this 21st century environment and the world
economy, and especially developing nations, would be greatly hindered by American retreatment from
the world stage. The Antebellum strategy used for the cotton industry in the 19th century is not

15. Compare and Contrast the Rise and Fall of Mesopotamia and...
In this project I plan on exploring the contrasts and comparisons between the rise of Mesopotamia and
Egypt. I chose this particular question because during my junior year I took and AP World History
class in which we of course studied the worlds history. One on my favorite things that we studied in
that class was ancient Empires. Mr. Herman, my AP teacher during that time, went through the
Mesopotamian and Egyptian Empires rather too quickly for my tastes. I felt as though there were a lot
of things that I missed and would have loved to study. So during my preparations for the AP exams I
wrote a brief essay on comparing and contrasting the rise and fall of the Egyptian and Mesopotamian
Empire. I enjoyed writing this essay and was quite interested in the topic. Despite the fact this didn t
make up much of the exam I later decided that this would be my capstone topic backup in case I don t
like the one I came up with in the future. And like I predicted I did not like my previous topic and
chose to continue this. The reason I thought to do this for my capstone after my other idea failed was
because I found that people would get a lot more out of this. We go to an arts school and frankly
unless something has to do with the history of our art forms people don t really pay that much
attention to history, unless they plan to become an anthropologist. I found that with this I can educate
my classmates on the history of those who came before us and then apply it to current day

16. Steven Spielberg s Film Jaws
Steven Spielberg s film JAWS (1975), (Spielberg/Universal), uses the motif of an essentially unseen
shark, ominously present through unpredictable displays of terrifying violence, to sculpt a message
about good, evil, power, arrogance, and vanity within the hegemony of small town middle class
America. Spielberg markets this High Concept (Cook 40), film and its nationalist ideals on a story that
is principally based on one image, the shark, and the fallibility of the human decision making process.
In a relatively short scene that lasts no longer than a minute and a half, eleven or so minutes into the
film, the viewer is presented with the hierarchy of the town s political decision making process, its
hubris and the lack of concern for the physical safety of the common citizenry over which they
govern. The scene takes place on a small ferry boat in the town s harbor. The previous evening there
was an unwitnessed shark attack in the harbor water which killed a young woman. The discussion on
the ferry, held by the town s mayor, selectmen, medical examiner, and police chief, is primarily
between police chief Brody and Mayor Vaughn. Brody tells Vaughn that he is going to shut the beach
down, no swimming will be allowed because it is unsafe. The mayor tell him that he, the police chief,

One thing that was really emphasized in this class is critical reflection. According to Brookfield
critical reflection is the process of analyzing, reconsidering and questioning experiences within a
broad context of issues . This is necessary for anyone working in a people centered job or in human
services. Critical reflection allows us to tackle our assumptions and actions and address where this
comes from. There are 3 different phases of the critical reflection process. The first is deconstruction.
This is where we take the case or moment apart, this where we deconstruct our attitudes surrounding
the circumstances. The next step is resistance and challenge. This is where we ask why and what this
means. The last step is reconstruction. In this step we put together everything that we have learned

Before actively learning about critical reflection, I did not understand how important it is to develop
this skill. With my previous work in SDMA or as a mentor, I did complete some type of critical
reflection but it was more large scale at the end of large periods of time. I found this reflection was not
very helpful because of at it was not as useful at the end of the semester or at the mid point of
semester. I think this is because it is more helpful after every interaction because then it is the best
way to address all of these interactions. As a mentor, it s important to really pay attention to my
interactions with my mentees because this is the basis of my relationship with them. There are a lot of
times of when I need to deconstruct my feelings and attitudes. This is often the case for my mentees,
with them being only a year younger and the growth of our relationship, there are some interactions
that I look back at and think I maybe should not have had done or said some of the things I did do.

The mixture between the 1 chloro 2 methylpropane and magnessium was conducted over an extended
time period with exessive amounts of reagent used in order to attempt to push the reaction forward.
However, it is believed that these extreme tactics lead to a false positive in the formation of the
Grignard reagent and produced negative repercussions down the line when further experimentation
was conducted. The data obtained by the IR spectroscopy from the conclusion of week one supports
this theory. The presence of a carbonyl group, with an intensity of 72.40%, and no measurable
formation of alcohol were observed. The oxidation of 2 methyl 4 heptanol can neither be deemed a
success, nor a failure, due to it not existing in any measurable rate within our final product from week
one. However, the mixture still underwent the oxidation process in an attempt to produce any
possibility of the desired product. Using IR spectroscopy, the resulting data from the oxidation
appeared very similar to that of the IR spectroscopy data from week one, with a slightly lower
intensity of the carbonyl group at 66.89%. The GC performed on the final product mixture revealed
this carbonyl group to be an aldehyde, as previously

21. Letter To Senator Murkowski
Dear Senator Murkowski, As a Fairbanks, Alaska resident, it is my vision to help our community, by
providing musical opportunities, for our youth and youth with disabilities, through G R.O.C.K.
Studios (Gabriel Reaching Our City s Kids, part of Crown of Glory International Ministries, Inc.). My
dream was always to be a concert pianist, however, my dream shattered, after a tragic work related
accident, disabled my hand. A machine malfunctioned on my hand, which compressed, cut, and
burned me with fire, resulting in fourth degree burns. Furthermore, after seven surgeries, to save my
hand, I was faced, with the terrible news, of amputation of three of my fingers. This was an extremely
traumatic and painful experience for me. Fortunately, by

22. How To Motivate Offenders To Change
Abstract
Once an inmate is released from prison and given parole or probation it is difficult for them to live a
normal life like any other ordinary person would integrate day to day in our society. The offenders will
have many obstacles due to their criminal background in finding a job or even taken serious by others
in general. In a way, the parolee or probationer are fearful to how society might approach them once
let out of prison and even more frighten if the parolee or probationer served an indeterminate sentence
(10 20 years) in prison and not know how to become a part of society becomes their worst nightmare
due to the past thoughts of old habits that got them (parolee or probationer) in trouble with the system.

How to motivate offenders to change
(Clarissa Trejo)
Introduction
To motivate offenders to change sounds difficult, but is not impossible for those who accept to receive
help such as rehab, prevention programs that are effective for those whom have a drug or alcohol
problem and even one to one cognitive behavioral therapy that reduces recidivism in both youngsters
and adults.
History
The word, parole, derives from the French parole meaning word of honor and references prisoners of
war promising not to take up arms in current conflict if released. Probation has antecedents that reach
back to biblical times, its American history dates to the nineteenth century. The concept of probation
from the Latin probation, meaning period of proving. Evolved out of the practice of judicial reprieve,
used in English courts to serve as a temporary suspension of sentence to allow a defendant to appeal to
the crown for a pardon.
Issues of Probation and Parole
The 21st century is several years away and planning is needed to effectively manage excessive
caseloads to protect the public. This paper reviews a fresh means of supervision methodology and the
joining of the prevailing technology and the imminent technology of the 21st century. For quite some
time there has been a public, political

23. Sexual Exploitation Of The Police Station
I have been involved in a number of activities in my placement at Wright Chambers, mostly to do with
criminal matters rather than civil. I have accompanied Nick and a client to the Hindley Street Police
Station. We met with Nick s client and the client s wife outside of the station and Nick gave him some
brief directions about not saying anything, even if he believed it would help his situation. At the time,
I did not know what the client was being accused of, and it turned out that it was persistent sexual
exploitation of his niece. I felt confident but somewhat wary that I had to maintain my friendly (if that
is the right word) but professional manner towards the client. This was not difficult for me, although I
am unable to reflect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before I end my placement, I would like to have more to do with clients before their matters reach
trial. From my perspective as a CLE student, I have found that doing my placement with a criminal
barrister has its limitations. The main one being that the groundwork , such as the initial interview, has
already been done prior to the matter before it reaches Nick because he is briefed by solicitors, and
sometimes by the Commonwealth or State DPP. Of course I understand the issues surrounding liability
so I cannot conduct the interviews myself, but I was disappointed to have so little do with the clients
prior to reaching trial. The extent of the client contact that I have had is the police interview, and
another occasion at the District Court in an area where the accused stayed and spoke with Nick, not at
any great length. This is something that I should have considered before deciding to do my placement
at Wright Chambers, and it s something that I regret. While I haven t had the pressure of dealing with
emotional clients, and making sure that I ve provided the correct legal advice to those clients, I have
missed out on a great opportunity for my professional development, specifically regarding client
contact. This is something that I hope to address before the end of my placement, and it is something
that I regret not having considered at any earlier

Finding the perfect sponsor
Many people who join LulaRoe movement have the common misconception that their sponsor has to
be the person who introduced them to the life changing comfortable leggings or sold them their first
pair. This is not the case! You shouldn t join under a sponsor right away, even if they are family or
friends. It is beneficial to take time to meet and speak with several independent consultants and get to

25. The Flaws Of The Articles Of Confederation
On March 1st, 1781, the Articles of Confederation were signed and ratified. Although this document
protected and strengthened the United States from British rule, gave the U.S citizens freedom, and
organized the 13 states, there were many flaws which sat upon the surface of these articles. Over time
these flaws presented themselves through high taxes, debt, and unenforceable laws across state line.
Under the Articles of Confederation, there were neither a chief executive or a judiciary. In the
Federalists Papers it states that The Crowning defect of the Confederation is the lack of a judicial
power. Laws are pointless without courts to interpret and define their true meaning and operation.
Though it could make treaties, it could not enforce

26. The Movie Inside Out
Both the movies, Inside Out and Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind focus heavily on memory and
the impact that memory has on one s life. The movie Inside Out focuses on how memories and the
emotions attached to them can shape us and a our personalities. The movie depicts in animated form
the basics of memory, short term memory, long term memory and forgetting. It as shows the idea of
mood congruent effect. Mood congruent effect is the idea that you remember memories that were
encoded when you were in that same mood easier than when you are in a different mood. That can
been seen in Inside Out because when Riley is happy she can recall the happy memories of her family
and friends in Minnesota, but when Sadness and Joy get lost in long term memory and Riley is
without them, Riley has a much harder time remembering the good things in her life she is only able
to see the bad. The idea of mood congruent effect can also be seen in the movie Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind, this is seen when Joel s memories of Clementine are being erased, at first they are
erasing the negative memories and they go from one negative memory to another with ease, when they
finally jump to a happy memory, he jumps from happy memory to happy ... Show more content on

In Inside Out, it is shown that tubes suck the memory from long term memory to short term memory.
The only problem that is shown in the movie with retrieval is memory decay, in the movie this is
shown as a dulling of the memory, and eventually the memory is sent to the memory dump where it is
forgotten. The concepts of encoding failure and retrieval failure are not shown in the movie. Memory
retrieval is depicted in the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind in a very different way. They
show memory retrieval through cues from objects, so in the process of erasing the memory of
someone from one s mind, one must get rid of everything that might remind them of that person they

era, his work was truly Renaissance era. There is very little known about the life of Andrei Rublev
with his exact birth location and date unknown, it is very likely he lived near Moscow at the Trinity St.
Sergius Lavra which is near Moscow (131). The first mention of Rublev is in 1405 when he created
frescos and icons for the Cathedral of Annunciation (131). His name was on the last of the list of

Beside the pride of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the United States of America Mr. Zalmay

Rouhani, President Abdullah Abdullah of Afghanistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan and
His Holiness the Dalai Lama. But for some unknown reason, I feel Prime Minister Modi, Camaron,
Netanyahu and Trudeau are on the same page. Chancellor Merkel could not be more delightful, by

29. Willy Wonka Religion
I talk to God but the sky is empty. Sylvia Plath. Religion and faith is a huge, integral part of the lives
of the billions of people living on our planet today. The faith they have in a higher omnipotent being
that they feel is protecting and watching over them helps guide them to live a good, morally conscious
lifestyle. Even though the presence of a God isn t always clear to everyone, there is always someone
who will argue about their existence, but what happens when you seek a God and find that no one is
there to answer you ? Just as the quote describes, there are also many people across the globe that find
themselves searching for a God and can not find one, or just do not need one altogether. The absence

The only two exceptions in the story seem to be Charlie and the great Willy Wonka. Throughout the
book Willy Wonka is highly respected and thought to be a genius by everyone. He is revered, and
nothing but praise seems to be heaped upon him by every character in the story and what seems to put
him apart from everyone is his belief in both ideals. Even though it is not stated in the book there is
clear evidence that Wonka is a very business minded individual and gives the success of his factory
massive importance. This is shown in the way he closed down his factory from the public in order to
safeguard the secrets of his products from spy efforts from his competitors. Another shrewd business
maneuver was putting the golden tickets inside chocolate bars, knowing the tickets would be highly
coveted, he knew that sales for his candy would skyrocket. On the other hand Wonka is very faith
driven as shown by his choosing of Charlie to be his successor. Wonka chooses Charlie for his faith
and willingness to accept the wisdom of others, Charlie obviously not being blinded by his own self
gain. I want a good, sensible, loving child. (151) Charlie also seems to share in Wonka s belief of both
ideals evidenced by his good natured faith that leads him to be chosen as Wonka s successor but also
in his want for a better life. He wanted something more out life and unlike his father he did not simply
sit around hoping for a miracle. Charlie saw his opportunity in the golden tickets and pursued it. He
could have simply given up after not getting the ticket the first time, but he stuck to it everychance he

Pros of using violent imagery and language
It brings out the real meaning of the message he intends to pass across to the employees of Nokia
company. For example, when he says that the platform is burning while referring to Nokia, this simply
notifies the employees that unless they take the necessary actions to prevent Nokia from collapsing,
the company may not stand. There are many mistakes committed in the company which must be
arrested to prevent further damage.
The violent imagery awakens everyone to think outside the box immediately.
Cons of using violent imagery and language
The violent imagery may cause panic among the workers. Some of the employees can give up on the
company since it is already burning. The resulting demotivation can lead to further detrimental effects
than intended corrective steps.
Personally, I feel motivated when violent imagery and language is used in the memo. This approach is
unlikely to backfire because the facts are speaking loudly. First, the once leading Nokia company has
lost most of its customer base. Additionally, the management has been reluctant to provide direction in
the company. Additionally, the employees can also testify that Nokia has become inferior compared to
other competing brands on the market. Some of the employees in Nokia company may be using the
competitors brands at the time the memo was written. Therefore, the memo pointed out what was
obvious in the minds

31. Comparing Greek And Norse Mythology
When analyzing both Greek and Norse stories and beliefs, they can appear to be both very unique in
nature, but also very alike to each other. Some of the attributes shared between them exist in their
gods, concept of fate, and origin story where they conquer their creators. Along with the parallels they
share, they also contrast when it comes to their playful or gloomy nature, heroes, and the gods power.
To compare Greek and Norse mythology, it is beneficial to examine the gods, their ideas of fate, and
their origin stories that they had. Though their gods generally differed, they held many of the same
traits. Odin and Zeus were both seen as a ruler of the Olympians. Thor also possessed elemental traits
similar to Zeus, lightning and thunder. Both sets of mythologies have gods that pertain to parts ...

There were certain beings for vegetation, war, thunder, lightning, love, beauty, and death. Along with
the similarities of the gods, they also shared a belief that their fate was predetermined. Even those who
controlled fate were very similar. For the Greeks it was the Fates, and for the Norse it was the Norns.
Both are often depicted spinning, measuring, and cutting the threads of fate. Having fate lie in the
hands of other beings gives the notion that the gods and mortals alike can not control their destinies.
Often people would say it was the fault of the Fates or Norns and not their own. Also, In both of their
creation stories, the once ruling race is taken over by the gods, their own creations turning against
them. In The Creation , it states the following from Norse myth: At last they attacked Ymir and killed

32. Feudalism And Social System In Medieval Europe
TERMS
LATE MEDIEVAL EUROPE
1. Feudalism
Social system that dominated medieval Europe, in which there were divisions in social classes that
resulted in a social hierarchy with the king/queen on top, nobles and lords underneath, knights and
vassals next, merchants, farmers, and skilled craftsmen/tradesmen next, and peasants and serfs on the
bottom.
?
Feudalism developed because in 476 C.E.., the Roman Empire fell, causing chaos and little to no
effective political leadership to lead the people out of the dark times.
The importance of feudalism is that it was a type of government. It may not have been the most
effective or unifying government, but it was a system that got the people through the Medieval Period.
It later made way for the monarchy system found in many European countries later on in history.
2. Scholasticism
A system of thought with the purpose of using classical thinking and church teaching by emphasizing
reason, tradition, dogmas and faith. Ex: Thomas Aquinas
During the middle ages in Europe. Taught in medieval European universities.
The Catholic Church used this concept to pull people in and become more knowledgeable about the
bible as well as reinforcing tradition. Thoughts of humans weren t based on scientific concepts, but on
consulting the higher authority. It did add some knowledge to the society, but it slowed the cultural
growth and progress of Europe.
Scholasticism was important because it encourages scholarly questions about faith, belief, and
