Summary Of Similes By Armst Bryant
Bryant, an adolescence in the year 1811, wrote a poem that shows how he views the world, but was he
a protegee of philosophy or was he just following the hip new thing? Bryant uses figurative language,
a store of information and imagery that has only one purpose, to compare two things to make a point.
Similes and metaphors are most commonly used, although there are alternative types of figurative
language. Firstly, we will look at metaphors he uses in his poem, secondly, the similes we are
examined, and finally, I will explain how they further Bryant s purposes for the poem. Bryant chisels
figurative language into his poem, like a well seasoned craftsman, chisels a long awaited for work of
art. But to what purpose does he use it; why do we have this poem? Bryant uses figurative language to
comfort his reader and bids them to accept the eventuality of their own death. Bryant almost
immediately starts Thanatopsis with a metaphor that introduces the reader to the themes of this poem.
Metaphors are relating to unrelated things to elaborate on a point. It takes an effort to find metaphors
in poems because they are often on abstract ideas. Bryant uses the metaphor, not to abstract, but to
express an idea. Bryant uses the image of a woman to symbolize Mother Earth. She has a voice of
gladness, and a smile/ and eloquence of beauty; and she glides/ into his darker musings, with a mild/
and healing sympathy that steals away their sharpness ere he is aware... This metaphor

The Population s Natural Resources
Togo s environment consists of a fair amount of diversity with gently sloping savanna hills in the
north, expansive lagoons and marshes stretching from the coastal plain in the south, and hills and
plateaus in the central region of the country. The nation s natural resources are made up predominately
of phosphates, limestone, marble, and arable land. As of 2011 their total renewable water resources are
14.7 cu km, with total withdrawals in 2005 only at 0.17 cu km per year, suggesting they have enough
water resources to meet the growing needs of their people for the time being. The percentage of
endogenous freshwater supply withdrawn for use by Togo as listed by The World Resources Institute
is about 1% annually. The more difficult issue for Togo will be protecting the water quality and
finding the financing and resources to expand infrastructure to provide a much larger % of the
population with access to improved water and sanitation. Natural hazards for Togo are hot
temperatures, intermittent droughts, and dry Harmattan winds causing reductions in visibility. The
country s most troubling environmental issues include deforestation from slash and burn agriculture
combined with the harvesting of wood for fuel. Water pollution causing health hazards with drinking
water sources, and harming the fishing industry. Additionally, increasing urbanization and
development is causing rises air pollution, which has become more threatening to their urban
metropolitan areas. The

Muscle Contraction Research Paper
Emily Branstetter
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Skeletal muscle contractions play a pivotal role in our day to day lives. Their main function is to
generate force and provide our bodies with structural integrity. For many of us, muscle contractions
seem effortless, but there s actually quite a bit going on under the surface. Our muscles are composed
of sarcomeres, units of skeletal muscle fibers, which are made up of actin and myosin contractile
filaments. These filaments need to bind to each other in order to lengthen and shorten the sarcomere.
However, the binding sites for actin and myosin are blocked by troponin and tropomyosin proteins. In
order to get them off of the binding sites, calcium needs to bind to the troponin, which then lifts ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being one of the proteins that initiates the unbinding of actin and myosin, its location allows for easy
access to bind to and change the shape of actin. As dystrophin and actin bind, force is transmitted from
within the sarcomere to the extracellular space and surrounding muscle cells. When dystrophin
function is inhibited, it won t bind to actin and the cross bridge cycle is interrupted; meaning no
contractions.
Lastly, because of the flimsy membrane, myo enzymes and calcium can leak out which has the
potential to decrease the function of the cell. The lack of integrity of the membrane also allows
particles to leak into the cell causing a concentration gradient. This gradient will draw water toward
the area to dilute it and with time leads to the bursting of the muscle cell.
Most common symptoms of DMD are muscle weakness and muscle loss progressing from the legs to
the arms, and the condition deteriorates over an extended period of time. This leads to difficulties
standing and walking and results in required use of wheelchairs, often by the age of 12 or so. It is not
uncommon for someone with DMD to appear as if they actually have a large muscle mass, but this is
simply due to the buildup of fat content and the fact that muscle fibers are being replaced by fat

The Lecture At The Angelica Library
The Opportunity in Lecturing
Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library
On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany
County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and
lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others,
developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and reflecting
upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it.
As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical
lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the
historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the
abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had
uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions to
the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on the
subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at Ithaca
College during my speaking section. From that point I had also gained some other interesting bits of
information to add on my knowledge on the matter. For instance, during another section of the
conference I had listened to the presentation

Theme Of The Moon In A Midsummer Night Dream
The sun is a constant in our lives. We wake up to it faithfully rising on the horizon. We enjoy its
unceasing warmth and energy throughout the day before falling asleep after it sets. With night passing
quickly, we take no notice of the moon that resides in place of the sun. However, it is this unnoticed
moon that more accurately mirrors our perception of time and the phases in our lives. William
Shakespeare realized this about the moon. In his play, A Midsummer s Night Dream, he uses the motif
of the moon to symbolize both time and the phases in our lives just as he does through the characters
of the play.
Shakespeare conveys the passage of time through the character of Theseus early on in the play.
Theseus, referencing the moon, expresses his distaste for how slow time is passing by saying in line 2:
Another moon: but, O, methinks, how slow this old moon wanes! she lingers my desires, like to a step
dame or a dowager long withering out a young man revenue (AMND 1.1.3 6.) Theseus is dissatisfied
because he wants to be with his fiance, Hippolyta, now rather than waiting for the moon to wane.
However, Hippolyta reassuringly replies to Theseus in line 8, that Four days will quickly steep
themselves in night; Four nights will quickly dream away the time; And then the moon, like to a silver
bow new bent in heaven, shall behold the night of our solemnities (1.1.7 11). Hippolyta, also referring
to the moon, is telling Theseus that soon enough the time will be here for them to be together. Another
example of the moon representing time can be seen when Theseus is speaking to Hermia about who
she will marry and how she will obey her father s commands. Take time to pause; and, by the nest new
moon The sealing day betwixt my love and me, (1.1.85 87). Here again, Shakespeare uses the motif of
the moon to represent time and effectively shows how his characters live their lives around it.
Shakespeare also uses the idea of moon phases to symbolize both the difficulties and the good
fortunes in one s life. For example, Shakespeare relates the darkness of the moon to the difficult life of
a nun and the difficult decision that Hermia must make. In Lines 70 78, Theseus declares to Hermia,

Lust And Flattery In Dante s Inferno By Dante Alighieri
The epic poem, Inferno was written in the 14th century by Dante Alighieri, it follows Dante the
Pilgrim as he descends the 9 Circles of Hell. Along with his aid Virgil, Dante witnesses the different
sins and punishments of each circle, each more gruesome than the last. Dante, the Pilgrim, is able to
see many sinners from these circles and hear their stories, he also learns about the many monstrous
dangers in Hell. Dante Alighieri, an Italian poet, wrote Inferno after he had been banished from his
hometown of Florence. Because of the time period and the fact that he had been exiled, Dantes views
on such sins as lust and flattery were biased. Two sinners that exemplify the development of Lust and
Flattery are Alexander Hamilton and Anne Boleyn. Throughout time, sins such as Lust and Flattery
have stayed the same because of the human need to blame others for their actions and the want for
power.
The behavior of Lust across time has stayed the same because humans are mainly unable to take
responsibility for their actions. Lust is a passionate or overmastering desire or craving, usually in a
sexual sense. Dante views those who lust as carnal sinners [that] are condemned : (Alighieri V, 38).
Alighieri was religious; therefore his views on adultery were very strict and unforgiving. While in
Circle 2: Lust Dante meets Francesca, a noblewoman who had an affair with her husband s brother,
Paolo, all trembling, kiss d me on my mouth. A Galeotto was the book and he that wrote it. That day
we read in it no further (Alighieri V, 137 138). Francesca describes her affair in detail with Dante and
virgil, and instead of taking responsibility, Francesca blames her affair on a book about Lancelot.
Similar to Francesca, Alexander Hamilton, also did not take responsibility for his affair. Hamilton, the
first treasury secretary of the United States, engaged in a torrid affair that he claims was because of his
gender and social status in life. How then can I, with pretensions every way inferior expect to escape?
(Hamilton). Hamilton does not take responsibility, and he doesn t seem to be remorseful about the
affair. He blames the fact he was adulterous on his male nature. Hamilton believes that he had no

Homeless Adolescents Under The Age Of Eighteen
Separate Shelters are needed for Homeless Adolescents under the age of Eighteen. Deanna Marzolf

In communities across the nation, homeless adolescents under the age of eighteen are surviving on the
streets alone and afraid. The availability of homeless shelters, for this demographic, are few and far

ages and genders, mental health disorders, substance and drug abuse. The people who provide services

The majority of the shelters are further supported by the community and churches. On the website for
Fayetteville, North Carolina is a list of homeless shelters providing services in the area. A quick
glance shows that there are shelters that service specific segments of the population including battered
women, pregnant women, women in crisis, homeless families and the general population
(2013).Although, the population listed does not list shelter services that provide services for homeless
adolescents the staff at several of the shelters provided information on the youth served. One example
of a shelter, in the Fayetteville area, that offers services to homeless adolescents under the age of
eighteen is the Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network. This shelter is identified, on the
Fayetteville NC website, as one that provides services for homeless families. (Cumberland Interfaith
Hospitality Network, 2013). As an example, the services provided, at this shelter, include: overnight
accommodations at their churches, dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch, referrals to employment,
direct assistance with household furnishings, basic need items, and financial assistance ( Cumberland
Interfaith Hospitality Network,2013). The providers of services at this shelter appear to have the
capability of incorporating the same services to treat homeless adolescents. The Interfaith Hospitality
Network provides a wide range of services to encompass the needs of

The Importance Of Harvesting Personal Identity
Clearly, even smart kids can be street (internet highway) thugs! Unfortunately, no police force seems
smart enough to halt this sinister revenge of the nerds.... (Hall, 2005). For many of us, we do not
realize how easy it is for a person to harvest the personal data of someone and never even break into a
person s home. When we talk about harvesting personal data, the image of a huge combine rolling
through the fields extracting the crops come to mind. For identity thieves, this harvesting may not be
so obvious but can be that simple. Some of the means that have been used to harvest these stolen
identities can be in public places where there is shoulder surfing which is simply looking over

A Correlation Between Height And Shoe Size
Introduction I love buying shoes and I have always wondered if shoes and height is correlational. I
believe it is, based on my personal experiences. Shoe size generally is proportional to height. It s
common sense that shorter people have shorter feet than taller people. However, there is probably a
clearer relationship between shoe size and height when girls and boys are measured separately. The
shoe size is measured from the tip of the toe to the heel. The height of a person is measured from the
top of the head to the bottom of the feet.
Statement of Task The main purpose of this investigation is to see if there is a correlation between
height and shoe size.
Plan of Investigation The data is collected from 36 students from Garland High School. They were
from ages 16 18 years old. These students were picked based on convenience. This survey might be
somewhat biased because some students did not want to take it because they did not know their
information. The survey was anonymous, except for the gender. With the data I collected, I did the
standard deviation, scatter plot graphs, and correlation coefficient. Standard deviation is the diffusion
of data. I used it because it tells you how widely spread your data is. It s used when assessing data. To
find the standard deviation, it s necessary to first find the mean. Now we find how far each value is
from the mean (the deviation). Then, square the deviations and find the mean of those values. I used a
scatter plot graph

The Consequences Of Police Discretion In The Police
Police are what is known as street level bureaucrats. This basically means that police are civil servants
working on the street level in direct contact with the general public enforcing the laws of the local,
state and federal law. Police officers work alone or with a partner patrolling the streets within their
beat, therefor they are given a lot of discretion with their title. Discretionary judgment is necessary for
a well functioning police department, but it must be demonstrated properly in order to have positive
outcomes. A police officers ability to use discretion properly can help build the relationship between
law enforcement and the community, but if officers abuse their discretionary judgment then it can lead
to decisional influences / biases (Dempsey pg. 144, 2018). A few solutions have been implemented in
order to counteract / remove these discretionary negatives. Police officers have always possessed the
powers to exercise discretionary judgment ever since they have had the ability to enforce the law.
Discretion within the police force is defined as the officers freedom to make a choice based on the
situation (Young, 2011). However, it has come to light in recent decades that many officers abuse their
powers of discretion, especially with their use of force. This is especially a problem today because
police officers are being monitored every second as departments start incorporating dash cameras and
body cameras. With new video surveillance brings forward the question of whether or not police are
given too much freedom when it comes to discretionary judgment. One of the biggest reasons police
are permitted to demonstrate discretionary judgment is because when it is applied correctly it builds a
positive relationship between law enforcement and the community. The idea is that if officers are too
strict on the law then there would be too many arrest and it wouldn t always allow the officer to act in
a just manner. Discretionary judgment is necessary for law enforcement to function properly because
no two situations are the exact same therefor officers must apply discretion as needed to the situation
they are experiencing. The debate over police discretion typically comes up after

Fun Home by Alison Bechdel Essay

sort of comical life story of a misunderstood teenager. Although the short comic book structured novel
does have its sarcastic humor, Alison Bechdel explains her firsthand account of growing up with the
difficulty of living of finding her true identity. Alison was a teenager in college when she discovered
that she was a lesbian, however, the shock came when she also discovered her father was homosexual.
I feel that the most influencing panel in Fun Home is where Alison and her father are in the car alone

He finally realizes the truth about his daughter, which I believe eternally, hurts him. Why is Bruce so
upset over this realization? Bruce does not want to see his daughter suffer through the same fate as he
has encountered throughout the years. He has lived a life filled with lies; therefore, his life is filled
with regret and unfulfillment. He wants what every father wants for his daughter, to be successful with
a family of her own. For example, we can see throughout Fun Home that Bruce makes his daughter
wear jewelry and feminine clothes, despite her complete distaste to the feminine style. There are three
occurrences where Allison and her father are fighting about jewelry to wear (97). Allison refuses to
wear pearls to the, but her father insists because there is an internal alarm going off in his head (99).
As a child Bruce dressed himself as a girl, now as an adult he wants to prevent his daughter from cross
dressing (221). Essentially when we arrive at the car scene Bruce was trying to prevent his daughter
from becoming like him. The ultimate realization of his daughter s sexuality unfolds and to him, he
has failed his job of preventing this from happening. Understanding the movement and background we
can understand the actual conversation between the two characters. This is crucial to understanding
the larger predicament of the situation. This

Freud s Theory Of Human Sexuality
As we know, the practice of sexual behavior is perceived differently by diverse worldviews and
consists of a wide range of activities (Hyde DeLamater, 2014). There has been a number of debates on
whether or not the nature of human sexuality can be developed through genetics, imitated through
socialization, influenced by unconscious decisions or if it can be altered after childhood. There are a
variety of theories that have been created to help understand the uncertainty of how human sexuality is
developed. Uncovering the influence of neuroscience on sexuality and evaluating the appropriateness
of Sigmund Freud s Psychoanalytic Theory, Albert Bandura s Modeling Theory and Carl Roger s
Person Centered Theory on addressing Maria s sexual problems will be analyzed as well as their
contribution to our understanding of human sexuality.
Theory Identification
Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic theory is one out of four major theories that have contributed to
relevancy of human sexuality. Freud coined the notion that irrational forces, unconscious motivations,
biological and instinctual drives that evolve over time are the cause for human behavior (Corey, 2013).
Freud believed that parent child interactions within childhood develops a person s unique character
type. In childhood pleasure is maximized to satisfy the demands of the id impulses, while the parent s
main focus is integrating the demands of reality and the concept of what is right and wrong. Human

Catcher s The Rye, A Phenomenal Work Of Literature
Catcher in the Rye Soundtrack Catcher in the Rye was a phenomenal work of literature. The novel has

This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but

soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is

of some of the major themes in the movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by

The Hobbit Movie Vs Movie Essay
The thought that is running through all our heads when we are in English class is, can t we just watch
the movie? The answer is no, we can t just watch the movie because the book has many major details
that the movie does not include. For our age, reading the book will have a major impact on our life
ahead, how we look at the world, and how we look at others. Some of us may be unhappy that we are
reading the book and not just watching the movie, but we need to realize, that not only with The
Hobbit but with all movies, they are vastly different from the books.

movie. For Bilbo in the book he had gotten hit in the head and was lost. He found Gollum s ring and

Chapter six Out of the Frying Pan into the Fire and the last part of the first movie there were some
minor differences that will impact the rest of the book and the next movies. In the book, once Thorin

In the start of the second movie, (The Desolation of Smaug) compared to the seventh chapter of the
Hobbit Queer Lodgings, there were many very noticeable differences. In the start of the second movie,
Peter Jackson added a scene where Gandalf and Thorin were talking in a bar about the journey they

How Does Thomas Hobbes Use Fear In The Leviathan
In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes defines fear as aversion with opinion of hurt from the object (30). This
aversion that humans experience plays a fundamental role in Hobbes understanding of humanity and
society. More specifically, in the state of nature the fear of death sustains a constant state of war that
motivates men to seek peace under a common power called the Leviathan. However, the function of
fear in the Leviathan differs from its function in the state of nature, in that men in the Leviathan
maintain peace not only out of fear of other men, but also out of fear of the common power. This
understanding of fear mirrors Machiavelli s as outlined in The Prince, in which Machiavelli contends
that leaders should use fear to secure their subjects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for this discrepancy is that desire for power and fear of death balance each other out in the
Leviathan. More precisely, Hobbes describes men as having a perpetual and restless desire of power
after power, that ceaseth only in death and a fear of oppression that disposes them to seek aid by
society because there is no other way by which a man can secure his life and liberty (58 59). Hobbes
illustrates how in men, the desire for power and the fear of death are in a tug of war contest, and men
ultimately find the most benefit within the Leviathan. The Leviathan acquires power because the fear
of death authorizes it to, since the Leviathan controls the life and liberty of the people (127). Hobbes
elaborates that men who choose their sovereign do it for fear of one another and that they subject
themselves to him they are afraid of (127). Essentially, Hobbes postulates that the fear of the state of
nature, in which men live in constant war, has a stronger influence upon men than does the fear of the
Leviathan. The Leviathan keeps all men in awe, and they subject themselves to even the most
tyrannical dictator in exchange for removal from the state of nature. Therefore, fear in the Leviathan
compels men to obey their sovereign in order to remain within the realm of

National University s Economic Recession
The economic recession that occurred in 2008 great impacted higher education in areas such as tuition
increases, financial aid funds and college graduates decreasing. The large budget state cuts mainly
affected state universities as their main form of funding comes from the state. But the university where
I work and am attending, National University, was also impacted. Our main form of funding comes
from endowment and public tax exemptions for which were greatly affected by the economic
downturn.
One of the main impacts that these these policies had at National University was the tuition policy.
During the recession, there was no policy or control on the increase of tuition rates and higher
education institutions took advantage of this flexibility.

Medical Experiments During Ww2
Throughout WW2, the Nazis conducted many experiments on prisoners in the concentration camps.
The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of these doctors
used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different experiments that
were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted by Nazis were
inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the experiments done on
humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were beneficial. Some of the data
recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For example, Nazi hypothermia studies,
for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for decades, and recently several scientists have
sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson). Another compelling argument regarding the
injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg
trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Laws
were also made after the Holocaust to protect human test subjects of future experiments. On the
contrary to the dreadful things done to the prisoners, few relevant points are presented as positive
outcomes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Bio Ecological Theory Created By Bronfenbrenner
Throughout the world there are many homeless individuals who are in need of help. Many of these
people have trouble finding a job or a way to help themselves get stable. Not a lot of the homeless
know how to handle money or illnesses they have developed. Many homeless also suffer from
addictions and are in need of rehabilitation programs. The cause of these illnesses or drug problems
can be related to the fact that when growing up they suffered from different life changes and
expectations within the bio ecological theory or context. For my Service Learning Project I have
implemented a project that I believe will help the homeless community with their second chance. As
we grow up we associate ourselves with different people and environments no matter how old we are
or get we still see different people and different environments. The bio ecological theory created by
Bronfenbrenner, which explains just that with contexts of development. With the contexts of
development there are the biological, immediate, socioeconomic, and cultural contexts. All of these
contexts play a role in whether or not your life heads in a good or bad path. In every context there is a
different association from people and the environment such as cultural context which can provide the
belief in society that education is important.(Boyd, 2015) However, the belief that education is
important can be downgraded in the socioeconomic context if a family does not have the ability to
send their child to a

Bechtel s Greed
In April of 2000 thousands of Bolivians protested that their water supply had been privatized to a U.S.
based corporation, Bechtel, as part of a loan program with the World Bank and the International
Monetary Fund (IMF). Bechtel has vast political influence as demonstrated by how they made over $1
billion during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, second only to Halliburton, largely from no bid
contracts. Predictably, this company s greed showed no limits, even in one of the poorest countries in
the world. Water prices skyrocketed immediately to almost double the previous prices and Bolivians
were actually expected to pay Bechtel for collecting their own rainwater. Even though the new policy
was clearly disastrous, the former Bolivian President ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
to support key military alliances in Central and South America without much media attention. In fact,
every year billions of dollars are spent on U.S. military foreign aid throughout Latin America, another
unofficial stimulus package for the military industrial complex. We re essentially buying our military
and economic allies. From 2005 to 2009, the government spent more than $3.1 billion on
counternarcotics contracts in Latin America. The majority of that funding, $1.8 billion, went to only
five contractors: DynCorp, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, ITT, and ARINC. The top recipient from that
group, DynCorp, received $1.1 billion. That should be no surprise as DynCorp is exceedingly
connected politically with former executives who include cabinet members from the Reagan
administration, George Shultz and Caspar Weinberger. Also, Bill Clinton s former drug czar, Gen.
Barry McCaffrey, is one of DynCorp s board members. Mexico is one of the largest recipients of U.S.
military aid for counternarcotics operations. Since 2008, the U.S. has provided training, equipment,
and intelligence through the Mérida Initiative. This is a substantial program that has equipped the
Mexican government with $2.3 billion in military aid since 2008. This policy defies common sense as
there is a long history of drug corruption in Mexico. The most powerful cartels have been protected,
while their rivals have been targeted by the Mexican law enforcement. Inserting the Mexican military

on my front walkover for days now. I already had my back walkover. But the front was giving me a

not sure I will ever get it.
I kept working on it, and I kept falling to. Trying to get my front walkover was like when I was trying
to get my backflip a few months ago. At first I could not get it and I struggled but I got it in a few
days. Except with my front walkover I can not get it. In all the time I have been practicing I have not

Why? She replied,

Sure, she replied. This had made me feel a lot happier. Because now I might have a shot at landing it.
Hailey began giving me tips on what I could do better. She also told me what I was doing wrong. She

helping me though so I did not care what she seemed like. She said that I need to straighten my legs

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test Countercultures
Counterculture can be described as a way of life and a set of attitudes that is opposed to the social
norm. In the 1960s, the counterculture started to form to allow those citizens that were unhappy with
the time period to show their disgust with the norm. While many protests going on during this time
period were for equality, peace, and love, the counterculture was focused more on psychedelics and
sex. The counterculture wanted to become noticed to share their knowledge with others. Ken Kesey,
the main character from the novel The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe, was the starter of
the counterculture. Readers can infer that the dress, popular music, and drugs and thus shaped the

Before the 1960s, drug use was typically only found through jazz musicians and some minority s. The
drugs that were used were marijuana, heroine, and cocaine (Ragen 76). However, the FBI created LSD
to help Vietnam veterans with PTSD. Ken Kesey then started using it and discovered this new
experience from the drugs. The drugs created an enlightened vision of the world. Thus creating the
LSD and hallucinogen craze. This phenomenon brought thousands of teenagers, into San Francisco for
a life based on LSD and the psychedelic thing, (Wolfe 11). Some people saw the LSD movement as
the future, considering that thousands of people moved just to take part in it. However, others only
saw this as a current fantasy . They are, if not playing the cops and robbers game, playing at being
outlaws. The state s arbitrary drug laws, like ordinary standards of dress and decorum, simply give
them what they need most: a convention to flout in order to validate their outlawry, (Ragen 98).
Stating this made it seem as if the Merry Pranksters were posing as rebels. Ken Kesey did end up
living back in Oregon, with his wife and kids. The same spot he started in. The psychedelic era did
end, but drug use, however, is still apart of society today, and the counterculture is to thank for

Freudian And Lacanian Psychoanalysis, By Barbara Creed
INTRODUCTION
Psychoanalytic film theory, which is derived from Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis, appears in
the discussion of cinema early in the 1970s. As the conjunction of psychoanalysis and film theory,
scholars use this theory for textual analysis and different elements like the monstrous feminine, mirror
stage identification, and the Oedipus complex are concluded and developed. To reexamine the mother
child relationship, I will argue that these key elements of psychoanalytic film theory are useful to
understand the psychic activities of protagonists of Black Swan and The Babadook. Additionally, they
provide some evidence to explain the mode of how a mother gets along with her child. I will begin by
discussing the term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on this idea, Barbara Creed (1993) concluded the concept of monstrous feminine as the
shocking, terrifying, horrific, and abject (Creed 1993, 1) female image which is also commonly
associated with mothering functions. We can find that the abjection occupies the whole film The
Babadook.
For Amelia, the loss of her husband on the birthday of her son becomes a powerful abjection which
she tries to deny and avoid. However, every time Amelia struggles to reject it, exclude it and make it
other (Buerger 2017, 35), the significance and the effects brought by the trauma become profound.
Thus, the monstrous feminine is fully revealed when Amelia has to surrender to mister Babadook, the
embodiment of the abjection. One of the scene shows Amelia tries to pull a tooth out of her mouth. A
series of close up of Amelia s facial expression and hand movements indicate the struggle she goes
through when the Babadook takes up her. The only sound is Amelia s painful cry, which also shows
her cruelty and determination. In relation to several scenes before, Amelia has a toothache when she
eats something with her son. Working the same as a viscera, the tooth Amelia pulls out symbolize her
son Samuel, and the action of pulling the tooth out represents Amelia refuses to play the maternal role
and wants to get rid of her son. Besides showing Amelia in the front, a few

Shakespeare is praising his mistress when he says she is better than the best because summer is the
best time of the year and Shakespeare is saying she is better than summer. Thou art more lovely and

gives the poem an affectionate tone. Shakespeare is also writing to show off his writing skills, this is

writing will live on forever. It is also written to give his loved one a reminder of mortality. Nor shall

The purposes of Let Me Not were to flatter Shakespeare s loved one, remind his beloved of mortality,
define love and to show how love is threatened by other things. Romantic flattery is shown when
Shakespeare says, rosie lips and cheeks , it is also describing his beloved. The reminder of death is
shown when the poem says, edge of doome ; this is even more effective than just death because it is
describing love until the end of the world. The edge of doome also defines love and pontificates it to

Essay on Infinite Surds
| INFINITE SURDS | Ria Garg | | The purpose of my investigation is to find the general statement that
represents all values of k in an infinite surd for which the expression is an integer. I was able to
achieve this goal through the process of going through various infinite surds and trying to find a
relationship between each sequence. In the beginning stages of my investigation I came across the
sequence of ` a1= 1+1 a2= 1+1+1 a3 = 1+1+1+1 While looking at the sequence I came to the
realization that there is a very obvious pattern between each n value. The answer to each n value was
plugged into the next n value. For example if you look at this sequence a1= 1+1 = 1.414213562 a2=

Also since the sequence is a square root and, the graph shows no evidence of a root value I can
disregard the negative answer to the infinite surd. x= b±b2 4ac2a X=1+1 41 121 x=1+52 Now, I
would like to carry on my investigation and look at another sequence of infinite surds where the first
term of the sequence is 2+2. In the beginning steps of my investigation I came up with the formula
an+1 = 1+an, which I will be using to further my investigation and find the first 10 terms of my new
sequence. A1 = 2+2 a6 = 2+a5 = 1.847759065 = 1.999962351 a2 = 2+a1 a7 = 2+a6 = 1.961570561 =

1.997590912 = 1.999999412 a5 = 2+a4 a10 = 2+a9 = 1.999849404 = 1.999999853 Repeating the
same process I completed with the previous sequence of infinite surds, for the next step I will consider

  • 2. Summary Of Similes By Armst Bryant Bryant, an adolescence in the year 1811, wrote a poem that shows how he views the world, but was he a protegee of philosophy or was he just following the hip new thing? Bryant uses figurative language, a store of information and imagery that has only one purpose, to compare two things to make a point. Similes and metaphors are most commonly used, although there are alternative types of figurative language. Firstly, we will look at metaphors he uses in his poem, secondly, the similes we are examined, and finally, I will explain how they further Bryant s purposes for the poem. Bryant chisels figurative language into his poem, like a well seasoned craftsman, chisels a long awaited for work of art. But to what purpose does he use it; why do we have this poem? Bryant uses figurative language to comfort his reader and bids them to accept the eventuality of their own death. Bryant almost immediately starts Thanatopsis with a metaphor that introduces the reader to the themes of this poem. Metaphors are relating to unrelated things to elaborate on a point. It takes an effort to find metaphors in poems because they are often on abstract ideas. Bryant uses the metaphor, not to abstract, but to express an idea. Bryant uses the image of a woman to symbolize Mother Earth. She has a voice of gladness, and a smile/ and eloquence of beauty; and she glides/ into his darker musings, with a mild/ and healing sympathy that steals away their sharpness ere he is aware... • 3. The Population s Natural Resources Togo s environment consists of a fair amount of diversity with gently sloping savanna hills in the north, expansive lagoons and marshes stretching from the coastal plain in the south, and hills and plateaus in the central region of the country. The nation s natural resources are made up predominately of phosphates, limestone, marble, and arable land. As of 2011 their total renewable water resources are 14.7 cu km, with total withdrawals in 2005 only at 0.17 cu km per year, suggesting they have enough water resources to meet the growing needs of their people for the time being. The percentage of endogenous freshwater supply withdrawn for use by Togo as listed by The World Resources Institute is about 1% annually. The more difficult issue for Togo will be protecting the water quality and finding the financing and resources to expand infrastructure to provide a much larger % of the population with access to improved water and sanitation. Natural hazards for Togo are hot temperatures, intermittent droughts, and dry Harmattan winds causing reductions in visibility. The country s most troubling environmental issues include deforestation from slash and burn agriculture combined with the harvesting of wood for fuel. Water pollution causing health hazards with drinking water sources, and harming the fishing industry. Additionally, increasing urbanization and development is causing rises air pollution, which has become more threatening to their urban metropolitan areas. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Muscle Contraction Research Paper Emily Branstetter Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Skeletal muscle contractions play a pivotal role in our day to day lives. Their main function is to generate force and provide our bodies with structural integrity. For many of us, muscle contractions seem effortless, but there s actually quite a bit going on under the surface. Our muscles are composed of sarcomeres, units of skeletal muscle fibers, which are made up of actin and myosin contractile filaments. These filaments need to bind to each other in order to lengthen and shorten the sarcomere. However, the binding sites for actin and myosin are blocked by troponin and tropomyosin proteins. In order to get them off of the binding sites, calcium needs to bind to the troponin, which then lifts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being one of the proteins that initiates the unbinding of actin and myosin, its location allows for easy access to bind to and change the shape of actin. As dystrophin and actin bind, force is transmitted from within the sarcomere to the extracellular space and surrounding muscle cells. When dystrophin function is inhibited, it won t bind to actin and the cross bridge cycle is interrupted; meaning no contractions. Lastly, because of the flimsy membrane, myo enzymes and calcium can leak out which has the potential to decrease the function of the cell. The lack of integrity of the membrane also allows particles to leak into the cell causing a concentration gradient. This gradient will draw water toward the area to dilute it and with time leads to the bursting of the muscle cell. Most common symptoms of DMD are muscle weakness and muscle loss progressing from the legs to the arms, and the condition deteriorates over an extended period of time. This leads to difficulties standing and walking and results in required use of wheelchairs, often by the age of 12 or so. It is not uncommon for someone with DMD to appear as if they actually have a large muscle mass, but this is simply due to the buildup of fat content and the fact that muscle fibers are being replaced by fat ... • 6. The Lecture At The Angelica Library The Opportunity in Lecturing Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others, developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and reflecting upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it. As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions to the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on the subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at Ithaca College during my speaking section. From that point I had also gained some other interesting bits of information to add on my knowledge on the matter. For instance, during another section of the conference I had listened to the presentation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Theme Of The Moon In A Midsummer Night Dream The sun is a constant in our lives. We wake up to it faithfully rising on the horizon. We enjoy its unceasing warmth and energy throughout the day before falling asleep after it sets. With night passing quickly, we take no notice of the moon that resides in place of the sun. However, it is this unnoticed moon that more accurately mirrors our perception of time and the phases in our lives. William Shakespeare realized this about the moon. In his play, A Midsummer s Night Dream, he uses the motif of the moon to symbolize both time and the phases in our lives just as he does through the characters of the play. Shakespeare conveys the passage of time through the character of Theseus early on in the play. Theseus, referencing the moon, expresses his distaste for how slow time is passing by saying in line 2: Another moon: but, O, methinks, how slow this old moon wanes! she lingers my desires, like to a step dame or a dowager long withering out a young man revenue (AMND 1.1.3 6.) Theseus is dissatisfied because he wants to be with his fiance, Hippolyta, now rather than waiting for the moon to wane. However, Hippolyta reassuringly replies to Theseus in line 8, that Four days will quickly steep themselves in night; Four nights will quickly dream away the time; And then the moon, like to a silver bow new bent in heaven, shall behold the night of our solemnities (1.1.7 11). Hippolyta, also referring to the moon, is telling Theseus that soon enough the time will be here for them to be together. Another example of the moon representing time can be seen when Theseus is speaking to Hermia about who she will marry and how she will obey her father s commands. Take time to pause; and, by the nest new moon The sealing day betwixt my love and me, (1.1.85 87). Here again, Shakespeare uses the motif of the moon to represent time and effectively shows how his characters live their lives around it. Shakespeare also uses the idea of moon phases to symbolize both the difficulties and the good fortunes in one s life. For example, Shakespeare relates the darkness of the moon to the difficult life of a nun and the difficult decision that Hermia must make. In Lines 70 78, Theseus declares to Hermia, Whether, if ... • 8. Lust And Flattery In Dante s Inferno By Dante Alighieri The epic poem, Inferno was written in the 14th century by Dante Alighieri, it follows Dante the Pilgrim as he descends the 9 Circles of Hell. Along with his aid Virgil, Dante witnesses the different sins and punishments of each circle, each more gruesome than the last. Dante, the Pilgrim, is able to see many sinners from these circles and hear their stories, he also learns about the many monstrous dangers in Hell. Dante Alighieri, an Italian poet, wrote Inferno after he had been banished from his hometown of Florence. Because of the time period and the fact that he had been exiled, Dantes views on such sins as lust and flattery were biased. Two sinners that exemplify the development of Lust and Flattery are Alexander Hamilton and Anne Boleyn. Throughout time, sins such as Lust and Flattery have stayed the same because of the human need to blame others for their actions and the want for power. The behavior of Lust across time has stayed the same because humans are mainly unable to take responsibility for their actions. Lust is a passionate or overmastering desire or craving, usually in a sexual sense. Dante views those who lust as carnal sinners [that] are condemned : (Alighieri V, 38). Alighieri was religious; therefore his views on adultery were very strict and unforgiving. While in Circle 2: Lust Dante meets Francesca, a noblewoman who had an affair with her husband s brother, Paolo, all trembling, kiss d me on my mouth. A Galeotto was the book and he that wrote it. That day we read in it no further (Alighieri V, 137 138). Francesca describes her affair in detail with Dante and virgil, and instead of taking responsibility, Francesca blames her affair on a book about Lancelot. Similar to Francesca, Alexander Hamilton, also did not take responsibility for his affair. Hamilton, the first treasury secretary of the United States, engaged in a torrid affair that he claims was because of his gender and social status in life. How then can I, with pretensions every way inferior expect to escape? (Hamilton). Hamilton does not take responsibility, and he doesn t seem to be remorseful about the affair. He blames the fact he was adulterous on his male nature. Hamilton believes that he had no choice in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Deanna Marzolf Angela Chew Fayetteville State University Author Note Social Work 410 Dr. Erica Campbell Abstract In communities across the nation, homeless adolescents under the age of eighteen are surviving on the streets alone and afraid. The availability of homeless shelters, for this demographic, are few and far between. If the shelter is available to take in the homeless youth the facility is on average a mixture of ages and genders, mental health disorders, substance and drug abuse. The people who provide services to homeless adolescents, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of the shelters are further supported by the community and churches. On the website for Fayetteville, North Carolina is a list of homeless shelters providing services in the area. A quick glance shows that there are shelters that service specific segments of the population including battered women, pregnant women, women in crisis, homeless families and the general population (2013).Although, the population listed does not list shelter services that provide services for homeless adolescents the staff at several of the shelters provided information on the youth served. One example of a shelter, in the Fayetteville area, that offers services to homeless adolescents under the age of eighteen is the Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network. This shelter is identified, on the Fayetteville NC website, as one that provides services for homeless families. (Cumberland Interfaith Hospitality Network, 2013). Unfortunately, no police force seems smart enough to halt this sinister revenge of the nerds.... (Hall, 2005). For many of us, we do not realize how easy it is for a person to harvest the personal data of someone and never even break into a person s home. When we talk about harvesting personal data, the image of a huge combine rolling through the fields extracting the crops come to mind. For identity thieves, this harvesting may not be so obvious but can be that simple. Some of the means that have been used to harvest these stolen identities can be in public places where there is shoulder surfing which is simply looking over someone s shoulder in a public place as they to ... • 11. A Correlation Between Height And Shoe Size Introduction I love buying shoes and I have always wondered if shoes and height is correlational. I believe it is, based on my personal experiences. Shoe size generally is proportional to height. It s common sense that shorter people have shorter feet than taller people. However, there is probably a clearer relationship between shoe size and height when girls and boys are measured separately. The shoe size is measured from the tip of the toe to the heel. The height of a person is measured from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet. Statement of Task The main purpose of this investigation is to see if there is a correlation between height and shoe size. Plan of Investigation The data is collected from 36 students from Garland High School. They were from ages 16 18 years old. These students were picked based on convenience. This survey might be somewhat biased because some students did not want to take it because they did not know their information. The survey was anonymous, except for the gender. With the data I collected, I did the standard deviation, scatter plot graphs, and correlation coefficient. Standard deviation is the diffusion of data. I used it because it tells you how widely spread your data is. It s used when assessing data. To find the standard deviation, it s necessary to first find the mean. Now we find how far each value is from the mean (the deviation). Then, square the deviations and find the mean of those values. I used a scatter plot graph ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Consequences Of Police Discretion In The Police Police are what is known as street level bureaucrats. This basically means that police are civil servants working on the street level in direct contact with the general public enforcing the laws of the local, state and federal law. Police officers work alone or with a partner patrolling the streets within their beat, therefor they are given a lot of discretion with their title. Discretionary judgment is necessary for a well functioning police department, but it must be demonstrated properly in order to have positive outcomes. A police officers ability to use discretion properly can help build the relationship between law enforcement and the community, but if officers abuse their discretionary judgment then it can lead to decisional influences / biases (Dempsey pg. 144, 2018). A few solutions have been implemented in order to counteract / remove these discretionary negatives. Police officers have always possessed the powers to exercise discretionary judgment ever since they have had the ability to enforce the law. Discretion within the police force is defined as the officers freedom to make a choice based on the situation (Young, 2011). However, it has come to light in recent decades that many officers abuse their powers of discretion, especially with their use of force. This is especially a problem today because police officers are being monitored every second as departments start incorporating dash cameras and body cameras. With new video surveillance brings forward the question of whether or not police are given too much freedom when it comes to discretionary judgment. One of the biggest reasons police are permitted to demonstrate discretionary judgment is because when it is applied correctly it builds a positive relationship between law enforcement and the community. The idea is that if officers are too strict on the law then there would be too many arrest and it wouldn t always allow the officer to act in a just manner. Discretionary judgment is necessary for law enforcement to function properly because no two situations are the exact same therefor officers must apply discretion as needed to the situation they are experiencing. The debate over police discretion typically comes up after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bruce does not want to see his daughter suffer through the same fate as he has encountered throughout the years. For example, we can see throughout Fun Home that Bruce makes his daughter wear jewelry and feminine clothes, despite her complete distaste to the feminine style. There are three occurrences where Allison and her father are fighting about jewelry to wear (97). Allison refuses to wear pearls to the, but her father insists because there is an internal alarm going off in his head (99). As a child Bruce dressed himself as a girl, now as an adult he wants to prevent his daughter from cross dressing (221). There has been a number of debates on whether or not the nature of human sexuality can be developed through genetics, imitated through socialization, influenced by unconscious decisions or if it can be altered after childhood. There are a variety of theories that have been created to help understand the uncertainty of how human sexuality is developed. This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but certainly not least, a soundtrack that will knock the viewer of the movie into a sense of amazement. A soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is crying because they lost their friend, it would definitely be strange if the music in the background was Can t Touch This by M.C. Hammer. Soundtracks tell the audience what to feel whether it would be fear or excitement. With a soundtrack playing a critical position in a movie, the songs that have been chosen have transcended more than just the scenes they are played in, and turned into the embodiment of some of the major themes in the movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by Chance the Rapper called Finish Line . On this song, Chance the Rapper appears to just spout sentences that just come to head like the stream of consciousness like Holden. • 20. How Does Thomas Hobbes Use Fear In The Leviathan In Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes defines fear as aversion with opinion of hurt from the object (30). This aversion that humans experience plays a fundamental role in Hobbes understanding of humanity and society. More specifically, in the state of nature the fear of death sustains a constant state of war that motivates men to seek peace under a common power called the Leviathan. However, the function of fear in the Leviathan differs from its function in the state of nature, in that men in the Leviathan maintain peace not only out of fear of other men, but also out of fear of the common power. This understanding of fear mirrors Machiavelli s as outlined in The Prince, in which Machiavelli contends that leaders should use fear to secure their subjects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for this discrepancy is that desire for power and fear of death balance each other out in the Leviathan. More precisely, Hobbes describes men as having a perpetual and restless desire of power after power, that ceaseth only in death and a fear of oppression that disposes them to seek aid by society because there is no other way by which a man can secure his life and liberty (58 59). Hobbes illustrates how in men, the desire for power and the fear of death are in a tug of war contest, and men ultimately find the most benefit within the Leviathan. The Leviathan acquires power because the fear of death authorizes it to, since the Leviathan controls the life and liberty of the people (127). Hobbes elaborates that men who choose their sovereign do it for fear of one another and that they subject themselves to him they are afraid of (127). Essentially, Hobbes postulates that the fear of the state of nature, in which men live in constant war, has a stronger influence upon men than does the fear of the Leviathan. The Leviathan keeps all men in awe, and they subject themselves to even the most tyrannical dictator in exchange for removal from the state of nature. The experiments were extremely brutal to the persons being experimented on. Many of these doctors used their authority to justify the means of their research . There are various different experiments that were conducted for supposed benefit to the German army. Experiments conducted by Nazis were inhumane and traumatizing to those lucky enough to survive. Although the experiments done on humans during WW2 were absurd, there are some factors that were beneficial. Some of the data recorded by the Nazis is used in many scientists works today. For example, Nazi hypothermia studies, for instance, have been cited in the medical literature for decades, and recently several scientists have sought to use the data in their own work (Tyson). Another compelling argument regarding the injustices done to the prisoners revolves around the Nuremberg trials. After the war, the Nuremberg trials were held for the purpose of bringing Nazi war criminals to justice (Nuremberg Trials). Many of these people have trouble finding a job or a way to help themselves get stable. Not a lot of the homeless know how to handle money or illnesses they have developed. Many homeless also suffer from addictions and are in need of rehabilitation programs. The cause of these illnesses or drug problems can be related to the fact that when growing up they suffered from different life changes and expectations within the bio ecological theory or context. To reexamine the mother child relationship, I will argue that these key elements of psychoanalytic film theory are useful to understand the psychic activities of protagonists of Black Swan and The Babadook. Based on this idea, Barbara Creed (1993) concluded the concept of monstrous feminine as the shocking, terrifying, horrific, and abject (Creed 1993, 1) female image which is also commonly associated with mothering functions. We can find that the abjection occupies the whole film The Babadook. For Amelia, the loss of her husband on the birthday of her son becomes a powerful abjection which she tries to deny and avoid. However, every time Amelia struggles to reject it, exclude it and make it other (Buerger 2017, 35), the significance and the effects brought by the trauma become profound. Thus, the monstrous feminine is fully revealed when Amelia has to surrender to mister Babadook, the embodiment of the abjection. One of the scene shows Amelia tries to pull a tooth out of her mouth. A series of close up of Amelia s facial expression and hand movements indicate the struggle she goes through when the Babadook takes up her. The only sound is Amelia s painful cry, which also shows her cruelty and determination. In relation to several scenes before, Amelia has a toothache when she eats something with her son. Working the same as a viscera, the tooth Amelia pulls out symbolize her son Samuel, and the action of pulling the tooth out represents Amelia refuses to play the maternal role and wants to get rid of her son. All four of these poems are based on the subject matter of love. The four poems have a lot in common but each poem touches a different aspect of love. Two of the poems, Shall I Compare Thee , and Let Me Not , are sonnets and both were written by Shakespeare. To His Coy Mistress is written by Andrew Marvell and The Flea was written by John Donne. All four of the poems have three parts to them each posing a different argument. I will be analysing and comparing the four poems in the purpose of the poem, the nature of ... Shakespeare is praising his mistress when he says she is better than the best because summer is the best time of the year and Shakespeare is saying she is better than summer. Thou art more lovely and more temperate shows that he is saying she is perfect and constantly exquisite . The word darling gives the poem an affectionate tone. Shakespeare is also writing to show off his writing skills, this is shown in the last line when he says, So long lives this and this gives live to thee , because he says his writing will live on forever. It is also written to give his loved one a reminder of mortality. Nor shall death brag is the reminder of death and it is personified because it implies death can t take her. The purposes of Let Me Not were to flatter Shakespeare s loved one, remind his beloved of mortality, define love and to show how love is threatened by other things. Romantic flattery is shown when Shakespeare says, rosie lips and cheeks , it is also describing his beloved. The reminder of death is shown when the poem says, edge of doome ; this is even more effective than just death because it is describing love until the end of the world. The edge of doome also defines love and pontificates it to the end of time. Let Me Not is an imperative because it is a strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Infinite Surds | INFINITE SURDS | Ria Garg | | The purpose of my investigation is to find the general statement that represents all values of k in an infinite surd for which the expression is an integer. I was able to achieve this goal through the process of going through various infinite surds and trying to find a relationship between each sequence. In the beginning stages of my investigation I came across the sequence of ` a1= 1+1 a2= 1+1+1 a3 = 1+1+1+1 While looking at the sequence I came to the realization that there is a very obvious pattern between each n value. The answer to each n value was plugged into the next n value. For example if you look at this sequence a1= 1+1 = 1.414213562 a2= 1+1+1 = ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also since the sequence is a square root and, the graph shows no evidence of a root value I can disregard the negative answer to the infinite surd. x= b±b2 4ac2a X=1+1 41 121 x=1+52 Now, I would like to carry on my investigation and look at another sequence of infinite surds where the first term of the sequence is 2+2. In the beginning steps of my investigation I came up with the formula an+1 = 1+an, which I will be using to further my investigation and find the first 10 terms of my new sequence. A1 = 2+2 a6 = 2+a5 = 1.847759065 = 1.999962351 a2 = 2+a1 a7 = 2+a6 = 1.961570561 = 1.999990588 a3 = 2+a2 a8 = 2+a7 = 1.990369453 = 1.999997647 a4 = 2+a3 a9 = 2+a8 = 1.997590912 = 1.999999412 a5 = 2+a4 a10 = 2+a9 = 1.999849404 = 1.999999853 Repeating the same process I completed with the previous sequence of infinite surds, for the next step I will consider the value of an an+1 ...
