Danger ! This Mission To Mars Could Bore You To Death !
NASA has never made a trip to Mars, but I don t think the benefits of going to Mars will
outweigh the risks. One of the reasons I don t think we should go to Mars is because it would
take eight months to get there. Yeah, it would be cool to be the first person on Mars but you are
taking a lot of risks. That is just one of my three reasons I don t think the benefits outweigh the risks.
First, When you go to Mars it is a very long flight. According to the text Danger! This Mission to
Mars Could Bore You to Death! in paragraph 2 the author states With current technology, the
journey takes more than eight months each way I think being in a spaceship for 8 months in
such a small space could not only take a long time, but it would make you really tired. So, in my
opinion, I don t think that we should go to Mars because it would take you eight months to get

author states If your brain does not receive sufficient stimulus, it might find something else to do it

Osteoporosis Is An Age Related Disease Of The Skeletal System
Introduction:
Osteoporosis is an age related disease of the skeletal system characterized by both low bone mass
and bone structural degeneration (Nunes, 2011). Understanding osteoporosis is important because
it is continues to be overlooked and undertreated, causing high numbers of bone fractures each year
in the elderly, these bone fractures can be debilitating or even life threatening (Eastell, 2009).
Osteoporosis manifests when an imbalance between bone resorption and bone rebuilding occurs
this is due to changes in osteoclast and osteoblast activity. I chose this topic because osteoporosis
affects millions of people, and research will allow me to better understand this common yet
complex, and very perilous bone disease.
Types:
There are two types of osteoporosis, primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is more
common and has no direct cause. It is usually more prevalent in women who are postmenopausal
where the rate of bone loss increases while the rate of bone regeneration decreases. Secondary
osteoporosis, unlike primary, has a direct cause, such as an illness like leukemia, cushings
syndrome, or type 1 diabetes. These diseases cause an increase in bone resorption, and weakening
of the bones.
Pathophysiology:
Bones are made up of two layers, the trabecular and cortical layers. The trabecular layer is internal
and spongy like, where the cortical layer is external and more compact. These layers are
continuously broken down and reformed by two cells known as

Essay On Judgement In To Kill A Mockingbird
Beneath the Skin
There will always be that one person that gets hate and one that everybody loves. Living up to
other s expectation is an intricate way to fit in with society. Judgement isn t the only problem in
this generation; judging somebody by their actions and appearances cause people to be outcasted
which makes an impact on society. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the narrator, Scout Finch,
sums up what has happened in her preteen years, along with her brother, Jem Finch. As they are
growing up, they face conflicts throughout their hometown, Maycomb. Maycomb is a small little
town in Alabama full of judgemental racist hypocrites. One day, their dad, Atticus Finch, is set off
to handle a case about an African American, Tom Robinson, being framed for raping a young
white girl, Mayella Ewell, daughter in of the lowest families. As a lawyer, Atticus was up with
Tom. After losing the case against Mayella s dad, Bob Ewells, Scout, and Jem have lost their
social issues. In a city like Maycomb, residents and citizens are making critiques while being
prejudice when it comes to segregation and racism. Furthermore, the novel explains that people like
to judge and reject the unfamiliar.
Judgement is one of society s biggest conflict. In chapter 9, Atticus tries to explain to the
housekeeper, Calpurnia, about why he wants the kids to grow up in the right direction saying, Why
reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is

Machiavelli The Prince Chapter 1 Analysis
During the Reformation, a resurgence of Christian humanistic thoughts and values appeared which
focused on religious revival (Hunt et al. 448). Humanism emphasizes rational thought in solving
problems over divine or supernatural matters. During the Reformation, young, educated clerics,
funded by wealthy merchants and wealthy families, travelled throughout Europeto spread their
Christian faith to more people. During the Renaissanceperiod, humanists sought to return to
classical Greek, a departure from Latin language and literature. The integration of humanist
ideology and religionis a departure from modern humanist theory which removes all traces of
theology or supernatural belief, requiring the person to affirm their individual responsibility to
leading an ethical life.
In The Prince, Machiavelli takes a humanistic approach to governing. In Chapter I, he discusses the
maintenance of power and rule within the republics and principalities. Principalities, he explains,
are hereditary, passed from one generation to the next or they are newly formed (Machiavelli).
Conversely, the English rulers of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and respect to the king, the crown could strip the family of their names and titles, passing it to a
different family. Further strengthening their belief in their divine authority, kings and royalty
would amass great wealth through taxation and continuous fighting between factions. As opposed
to the humanist approach to governing, a majority of the wealth of the land was the property of the

Pathetic Fallacy In The Great Gatsby
The Great Pathetic Fallacy Smiling in the sunshine or seething in a storm, setting is simply a
stirring way to set a scene and scrupulously supply significance to a story. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s,
The Great Gatsby, it s easy to understand the atmosphere during important events such as Daisy and
Gatsby s reunion and when Tom confronts Gatsby, this is because of pathetic fallacy. The Great
Gatsby uses the weatherto show and emphasise the emotions of the characters allowing the reader
to interpret the plot and mood of important events thoroughly. The weather varies and changes
often during Daisy and Gatsby s reunion, allowing the reader to effectively read the situation and
follow the intense emotions both Daisy and Gatsby are feeling. When Nick invites Daisy to his
house as a favor to Gatsby, he opens the door to Gatsby and states,
Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a
puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes. With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked
by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire, and disappeared into the
livingв€’room... Aware of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to against the
increasing rain. (Fitzgerald 45)
The increasing rain shows the increasing anxiety Gatsby, and perhaps Nick feels in this situation
and Gatsby standing in the puddle of water shows how his anxiousness is engulfing him. The use
of pathetic fallacy here shows how much Gatsby cares about how this meeting with Daisy will go
and that he fears of a bad reaction to him suddenly appearing. Daisy and Gatsby talk for a while,
afterwards, Nick brings up the weather,
It s stopped raining. Has it? When he realized what I was talking about, that there were
twinkleв€’bells of sunshine in the room, he smiled like a weather man, like an ecstatic patron of
recurrent light, and repeated the news to Daisy. What do you think of that? It s stopped raining. I
m glad, Jay. Her throat, full of aching, grieving beauty, told only of her unexpected joy (47)
The end of the rain signifies the end of Gatsby s and Daisy s worries, and exhibits their newfound
joy. The pair bond over the now clear skies, or their lack of inhibitions and

The End Of The War
In Autumn of 1918 it all started, desertion rates were dramatically rising in the German army, civil
strikes reduced German war, protection, this was the beginning of the end of the war. While the
German army was slowly collapsing the Americans found their perfect chance to vitally strike the
German army. The Americans then launched the essential Hundred Day Offensive which was the
concluding offensive period of the war. The Hundred Day Offense that vitally pushed Germany out
of France, therefore, forcing them to retreat beyond the Hindenburg Line. The Hindenburg Line
was the allied term for the German Siegfriedstellung that was built during the winter of 1916 1917
and was a German defense position on the eastern front. Once the Germans retreated to the
Hindenburg line the Americans carried out a 56 hour bombardment followed by the breach of the
almost defunct Hindenburg Line. This war the end of war? After all of this, one of the most
important and grueling treaty with Germany was signed.
After war soon came bargaining of a treaty meant to end all wars. The bargaining started early 1919
s and was completed in April. The treaty of Versailleswas divided into 15 sections including the
covenant League of Nations being one of the most important and controversial sections of the
treaty. Approximately a month after bargaining was over the Treaty of Versailles was presented to
Germany for consideration . Germany was given 3 weeks to accept. If not accepted war

Essay on Structure Of The Lost Honour O
Heinrich Böll uses his novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, to attack modern journalistic
ethics as well as the values of contemporary Germany. The structure of this novel is important to
conveying his message. He uses a police report format, differences in chapter lengths, narrator or
author intervention, a subtitle, and the extensive use of the puddle metaphor. All these things
contribute towards the message in the text.
The puddle metaphor is the most significant device used in the structure of the novel. The puddle ;
means the collective information from all the sources. The narrator speaks of the information as
fluid and he also talks of the conduction of the information coming from these different sources.

Around this time is the celebratory period of Carnival. However there is no hint of any
celebratory moods in the tone. It is all extremely formal. It can be said that the format of this book
is related to how Katharina Blum herself lives her life. The possible reason that this story is set in
this police report format is that Heinrich Böll wants the reader to know the facts since all the
facts come together in the end. The story uses flashbacks so the reader knows what is happening
somewhere else at the same time. It could be said that the reader is finding out all this information
in the same order as the police investigation. It seems that the information is scattered and, just like
the police, the reader has to try and piece together the puzzle. However, this is all done for the
reader in the end. This is another example of how the puddle metaphor is used. The information
scattered means that the channel is always changing course.
The tone of this story, and even the text itself says that this is a police report, but the use of short
and long chapters could possibly suggest something different. In the short chapters there are little
bursts of action, whilst in the longer chapters it goes into far more detail. This is like a newspaper
in a way, the headlines with the bursts of action, and the pages the story is continued on go into
more detail, however, this reasoning is probably incorrect since the author is trying

Advantages Of A Feather Pillow
Choosing the most comfortable feather pillow
Getting a good night s sleep is an important part of maintaining not only your physical health, but
also your mental health. Experts have established that people who sleep inadequately have a
weaker immune system than those who have adequate sleep. Hence getting a good night s sleep
becomes important. Having a pillow that allows you to rest your head in comfort will allow you to
sleep adequately and comfortably. For those seeking a fluffy, soft pillow filled with natural
materials, a feather pillow fits these requirements in full. Considering the vast majority of feather
pillow types and manufactures, it gives one a headache just to select a pillow good enough to

Down
Pillows come stuffed with either feathers or down, or a mixture of the two. Down is the cotton like
insulation underneath the hard feathers that keeps a bird cozy, comfy and warm. These feathers are
very soft and fluffy, as compared to the bird s outer feathers which are harder with sharp quills.
The best feather pillows hence contain 100%. Generally, pure down pillows are of higher quality
and comfort than other feather pillows and tend to stay comfy longer. Higher quality pillows come
with a warranty from the manufacturer, so you ll give a peace of your mind (and even get a
replacement!) if your pillow doesn t function well enough.
The Fluff Factor and pillow Fluffiness
How fluffy a pillow is depends on the Fill Power of the pillow. According to the Down Feather
Company Fill power tells us the amount of space that an ounce of the down will fill in cubic
inches inside the pillow. A higher fill power indicates that the pillow contains down from a more
mature bird. This down is larger than that from a younger bird. Larger down feathers mean more
loft or height to the pillow.
Typically :
пѓ Higher fill power = Greater fluffiness

How Does Henri Nouwen Speak In A Pattern Of Christian...
If anyone has the authority to speak on Christian leadership, it is Henri Nouwen because of his
professorship at Ivy League Universities and long standing role as a priest. Yet Nouwen leans not
on either of these credentials; instead, he shares his reflections on leadership that he learned while
serving at Daybreak community for handicapped people. What is more, Nouwen learned the most
amazing leadershipprinciples when he was asked to speak in Washington D. C. on leadership and
Daybreak sent a resident named Bill Van Buren with him. Out of this experience, Nouwen creates a
pattern of Christian leadership based on Jesustemptation in the wilderness. Nouwen believes that
all leaders are similarly tempted. Therefore, Nouwen follows the pattern of task, question and
discipline, which give great insights into a true Christian leader. Furthermore, Nouwen shares many
amazing leadership lessons and the most impactful lessons are: the need for prayer over
competence, embracing brokenness within a leader s life and the role of community in leadership.
First of all, Nouwen addresses the influence of culture upon Christian leadership. His assessment is
that the culture seems to think that competence is all that is needed to deal with problems in life.
He shares the culture s sentiment by eloquently stating,
The problem is not lack of faith, but lack of competence. If you are sick, you need a competent
doctor; if you are poor, you need competent politicians; if there are technical

Likewise, Teddy also has very high status and power as he is the ruler of the Kingdom of Upalia.
He is Majesty King Theodore I, resplendent in the red and black of a generalissimo where he

Miss Strangeworth, Teddy takes his role very seriously. Not only does he use complex military
words such as generalissimo , he also takes awhile to make his decisions. While he is eating
dinner, Teddy contemplated his choice, pondering on the tactics that he needs to use in relieving
the siege of the fort by the river (Nowlan 131). Teddy weighs the pros and cons and thinks about
what might happen, If the Upalian army crossed the Tabelian marches, they might succeed in

Junior Research Paper I chose to research the University of California Riverside for several
reasons. I wanted to attend a four year university that was in California, was reasonably close to
home, had similar weather that I was used to, and had a large campus with a medium to large
amount of students. UCR seemed to fit that description best, and it appealed to me most because
of how close to home it is. UCR is within 20 minutes from home, and it meets all of the other

Planned Behavior Theory
The Theory of Planned Behavior (TBP) is a theory proposed by Icek Ajzen in 1975, whereby

and behavior and help to predict and explain human behavior. The thought behind the theory is that
it will help to understand how we can change people s behavior. The theory is based on three
defining factors about beliefs. The three types include normative beliefs, behavioral and control
beliefs. Behavioral beliefs are described as the attitude that she hold towards the behavior, while...

For the purposes of this paper, the TPB can also be utilized. Research shows that investigators have

compliance by guiding you in your focus or observation of behavioral actions to predict the effects
that nursing interventions have on the behaviors that are directed toward health promotion.
Johansson (2002) states that it is a prerequisite for the patient s perception of satisfaction with the
nursing care which often is the determining factor of whether the client will comply or not so
therefore these behaviors can be predicted utilizing the TPB since the actions of others (the nurse)

The Social Democrats were another influential political group, formed in 1898 they two were also

The Dangers Of Motorcycle Safety
On May 19, 2004, a young boy was driving his motorcycle on his way to move into his new
house when a van cut him off on the highway and his motorcycle struck the back of the van,
causing the bike and boy to tumble down the highway at 60 MPH. Luckily, the boy was wearing a
helmet. That helmet had been crushed in from the impact, and if he hadn t been wearing it, that
would have been his head. Motorcyclesafety has always been a concern for many people,
including parents of children who want bikes. Even if you don t ride motorcycles, knowing the
importance of helmets can help you teach others and save the life of a family or friend. I believe
that everyone, no matter the age or experience, should wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.
Wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle can be the difference between life or death. In this
paper, I will explain why not wearing a helmet is such a big problem, then I will tell you why the
problem exists, and finally I will give some solutions to this issue.
Let s start off by talking about why not wearing a helmet is such a big deal. Motorcycles are the
most hazardous form of motor vehicle transportation. They are less stable and harder to see than
normal cars. Like any other mode of transportation, safety is important and helmets are the most
important when riding a motorcycle. Your brain is very fragile and even though you have a skull
protecting it, your skull can easily be crushed and if your brain beats up against your skull, it

Voter Registration And Voting Registration
On November 8, citizens across the United States will have the opportunity to cast their vote to
assist in deciding who will become the next leader of our great nation. Voter registration is a
critical prerequisite, and prospective voters must understand the applicable policies and
procedures of successful registration. Voting requirements may differ in each state, so it is
important for a voter to be aware of these rules as well. Although Pennsylvania and Maryland
voter registration and voting rules are similar in some respects, there are key differences. In
order to register to vote in Pennsylvania, a person must be a citizen of the United States for one
month prior to the election, a resident of Pennsylvania and the desired election district, and
eighteen years old on or before the election day. Pennsylvanians who wish to vote must register
thirty days prior to the election. To register to vote in Maryland, a person must be a United
States citizen and a Maryland resident. However, unlike Pennsylvania, a person only has to be
sixteen years old to complete the voter registration process but may not vote until age eighteen. A
citizen may not register to vote in Maryland if he or she has been convicted of buying or selling
votes. If an individual has been convicted of a felony and is currently serving a term of
imprisonment, he or she is also ineligible. The mentally disabled may not vote. In Maryland, the
application for registration must be completed just twenty one

Benefits Of Safe Injections Sites
Many people view safe Injections sites as something extremely controversial. Some people are
completely for the idea of them as well as implementing in their neighborhoods, while others are
extremely against the idea and will do anything they can to ensure that they never make their way

the Canada (AG) v PHS Community Services Society, many more of them will be opening up

Conventions And Techniques Used In Odds Are
Since the dawn of writing, comedy and literature have always gone hand in hand. Authors such as
Shakespeare and Aristotle, and modern examples such as J.K Rolling and Mark Twain all have
used and perfected these conventions while writing their famous pieces. These conventions and
techniques are exemplified by Keith Powell s through his play, Odds Are. Where he uses an array
of the conventions and techniques of comedy, such as the usage of flattened stock characters and
ridicule throughout his work.
At the beginning of his play, Powell presents his audience with his two protagonists Molly and
James, who recently broke up with each other after dating for a couple of years. Each protagonist
simultaneously experiments with the dating scene, by dating an array of different (and
unbeknownst to them) flawed characters, who are set up by James s sister and Molly s friend
Elizabeth. The characters that Powell introduces to the audiences through these dates, are flattened
stock characters possessing very obvious and seemingly nuclear flaws. For example, Adam whom
Molly goes on a date with, fantasizes about death, and Jessi whom James attempts to date, is a shy
awkward and anxious pyromaniac. Through the initiation of these dates, ... Show more content on

This technique is used consistently throughout the play, as the majority of the dialogue that takes
place during each of the protagonists first dates consists of ridicule. An example of this is seen
throughout James s date with Holly, a reality television star, where Holly ridicules James for
being a professor of Pop Culture, calling the field of study, stupid and unreasonable, as it doesn t
lead to any proper self sufficient profession. Through the usage of ridicule, Powell furthers the
story line and overall arch of his play, creating and expanding this discussion with such ridicule and
dialogue, allowing for his play to

The Right And Bear Arms
Christal Blege
April 23, 2015
Professor Swint.
The right to bear arms? Our second amendment right is something that I feel that most
Americans would go to war over. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or
discharged a gun. More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my
family. This is why I fail to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially
military grade firearms like assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no
legitimate civilian purpose. (Infobased Learning 2008) So why then is ok for every ordinary Joe
over the age of 21 with a permit to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the
U.S. own at least one firearm, and of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the
percentage of gun ownership has gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do
serve other purposes like protection and safety.
When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards
and values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in
our everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest
court in the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the
individual has the right to own guns, we shouldn t debate it. another argument that gun control
supporters use is ,with stricter gun

My Happiest Moment
Have dinner with your family or walk in the park with friends. If you re so inclined, put in some
good hours at the office or at your favorite charity, temple or church. Work on your jump shot or
your child s model trains. With luck, you ll find happiness by the by. If not, your time won t be
wasted. You may even bring a little joyto the world, (McMahon Par 12). One of the happiest
moments of my life was when I was with my family, sitting around the tv watching a funny movie.
We were all having a good time and were very happy. This made me loveto spend time with my
family, because we shared laughter and enjoyed each other s company. So therefore, I agree with
McMahon that being less selfish and spending time with the people you love and doing what you
love brings happiness. Someone who is a good example of doing what you love and surrounding
yourself with people you love to make you happy, is Sam Berns. was an American teen who had
progeria and helped raise awareness about the disease. He aired a showing of How to live a

how he wanted to be in band and play the drum but because the illness made him weak and small,
he was not able to lift the drum let alone march with it. But this did not stop sam from doing what

Information security:When it comes to information security, every company faces a threat of losing
important information through hackers, natural disasters and employee dishonesty. Loss of
information could greatly affect the company s activities and cause a slow down in production.
Financial crisis: The global financial crisis has had an effect on most companies in the world
today. The rises in prices and shrinking bank lending rates have deprived businesses of the much
needed profits and capital respectively.
Media depictions: Depictions put forth by the media on certain occurrences about a company
could ruin its operations. GE has been a victim of media deception and was associated with the
Enron scandal which brought a lot of criticism and loss of investor confidence. The documentary
named deadly deception aired in 1991 displayed GE as a threat to human life for participating in
testing and building of nuclear weapons (Chasnoff, 1991). Such depictions could be used by
competitors to tarnish the company s name.
Evaluation and Analysis
It is notable that GE has a number of strengths that work to its advantage by enhancing profitability.
Its global recognition, strengths and competitiveness put GE at a favorable position as compared to
other companies in the same sector. The use of business units for management presents an effective
way to manage the expansive company. This not only reduces the possibility of overwhelming

The Middle East And European Colonialism
In the Middle East, European colonialism obliterated Arab sovereignty through its political and
economic takeover. After gaining independence, the epicenter of perceived encroachment of Arab
autonomy by the West was found in the Jewish state of Israel. Furthermore, the United States
military support of Israelwas also seen as an extension of colonialism. The colonial legacy of the
British and the French occupations in the Middle Eastled to the belief that Israel was another
imperial force that would infringe upon the rights of the Arab world. To fuel its strong hatred of
colonialism and Israel, the Arab states had the ability to harness their resources to pressure the
international community to be less pro Israel. The Middle East contains some of the world s
largest oil reserves, and this oil gives them a lot of economic clout because the use of oil for
energy purposes is essential for nearly every nation s survival. Most of the world has some
degree of dependence on Arab oil, and the Arab states can use this power as political leverage. In
an effort to utilize this oil power against Israel and its supporters, the Arab nations enacted oil
production cutbacks and an oil embargo in 1973. To have an effective embargo, the participation
of all Arab nations was necessary. Yet, the divisions and conflict within the Arab world prevented
meaningful Arab unity, so they did not meet the political objectives of destroying Israel and its
imperialism . The 1973 Oil Embargo was

Life Changing Events Happened From New York City
Life changing events happened in New York City. On September 11th, 2001 was without a
doubt, one of the most terrorizing experiences in the history of our Nation. You heard screams of
agony from people who were trying to seek safety for their loved ones. Pillars of smoke filled the
sky as innocent people cried out with agony and hurt of the injured and of people who didn t
understand what was going on. The streets were filled with clouds of dust and debris. The news
reporters told of the gripping story of how terror had struck the very hearts of the American
people. Our President, George W. Bush gave clear and concise demands to the events within a
few days following the horrible attacks on the Twin Towers. The demands that later led to new
ACT s being passed by Congress, would have a drastic change to what we call Civil Liberties.
By definition Civil Liberties is the state of being subjected only to laws that are established for
the good of the community, especially in terms of our freedom of action and speech. When we
think of the violation of Civil Liberties we think of those who are detained under specific verbiage,

The Pros And Cons Of Cashless
Imagine living the world where all jobs in America pay with transaction and card. The world
where cash will never have its value again and even if it there, it will not have its do the some
work it hard in the past. Cashless society is basically a society in which cash is not valued
including checks. The only paymentthat can be expectable is credit card, debit, and transitions.
Therefore, the United Statesof America should not go cashless in order to keep the trust of its
population and maintain the safety of the country especially for the people living in that particular
area.
Banks can easily manipulate the people. Individuals need to put in mind that when their money are
in banks, the money is automatically controlled by the banks and obviously that money is not
theirs at that point. Banks have the right to do whatever they want to do with the money without
asking one s opinion and there are some of the time when the bank may be unwilling or unable to
return [back the] money when someone is in need (Burnham). Other may said that most banks are
regulated by the government illegally, so it is impossible for banks to manipulate people. Well is
true, however, in the past banks hurt people through manipulation. For example, housing crisis,
cars, and other materials. This is why eliminating the use of cash is not a great idea it is going to
help the government and hurt the people. As a result of that, people should think twice and come

Violence Against Matthew Shepard Analysis
Many seem to see the violence against Matthew Shepard as a hate crime, which I agree with.
Everything pointed to, from testimonies to evidence, shows that he was attacked due to his sexual
orientation; however, the perpetrators, Aaron McKinney and Russel Henderson, didn t even know
Matt prior to the night of the incident, so how d they know if he was gay or not? They reacted to
his performance in a way that was consistent with their own learned gender performances. This
theme of prejudice was a crime fueled by hate, but facilitated by gender performance. The events
seemed to be documented through theatrical drama, though written in the style of a narrative that
tries to present itself as a true story, through tension. The way Kaufman builds

Sexuality In Dracula
After decades of cheesy horror movies, the image of vampires has been misconstrued as sparkly,
angsty teenage boys or handsome men that lure in girls for the fresh blood of a virgin. Many of
these stereotypical vampires are influenced by the story of Dracula, held in the Victorian era. Yet,
many of the stories published about vampires diverge from the message that Bram Stoker is trying
to make. During the Victorian period, sexuality is repressed by society, as sexual behaviors from
women are viewed as unacceptable. In the Gothic horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses the
traumatic experience of Jonathan Harker at Count Dracula s castle and the invasion of vampires in
Great Britain to create a social commentary on the sexual repression occurring in this era and its
detrimental effect on the men.
Throughout the entire novel, Stoker hints at sexual references, based on the characters actions. In
every encounter with female vampires, there is a perverse tone in the wordings of the passage. For
example, during Jonathan Harker s visit to Count Dracula s castle, he encounters three vampire
sisters after he disobeys Dracula s order to not leave his room. Harker s heart has a wicked,
burning desire (Stoker 32) that the three sisters would kiss him. He shows carnal desires as he is
approached by these vampires, unable to refuse their advances on to him, despite his loyalty to
Mina. This reveals that the men of the Victorian era cannot refuse and maybe even fear the
unknown sexual

Examining Genetic and Environmental Effects on Reactive Versus Proactive Aggression
Introduction Prior to this study, no other research had studied the genetic and environmental
influences on reactive and proactive aggression. The purpose of this study was to explain how
much genes and (shared and non shared) environmental factors each contribute to aggression,
specifically proactive and reactive. Once a positive correlation between the two types of
aggression was determined, a sub purpose was to find out if any correlation was due to another
common factor, such as physical aggression. And, which factors are unique to proactive aggression
and which are unique to reactive aggression. The article defines proactive aggression, or ... Show

However, there should also be non overlapping/non correlated factors contributing as well, as
reactive and proactive aggression have different predictors, associations and temperamental and
physiological correlates . With these new developments, the researchers carried out a separate test,
recalculating a correlation factoring in the possible overlap of physical aggression.
Methods
Sample. The participants of this study were 6 year olds (N= 72.7 months) selected from another
current study, the Quebec Newborn Twinlongitudinal Study. They initially enrolled 648 pairs of
twins but the final sample size was 172 twins (55 monozygotic girls, 48 monozygotic boys, 33
dizygotic girls, and 36 dizygotic boys) after excluding data from different sex twins and twins who
were in the same class (which might indicate exaggerated similarities between the twins if rated by
the same teacher). The children s reactive and proactive aggression levels were measured using
Dodge and Coie s (1987) assessment, using informant reporting. The informant was the childrens
kindergarten teacher during the spring (enough time for the teacher to get to know the child) in his
/her preferred language (either English or French; translated twice and approved by binglingual

Australia s Economic Growth
Economic growth
An increase in the capacity of an economy to produce goods and services, compared from one

Inflation is a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money.
The growth of an economy is thought of not only as an increase in productive capacity but also as
an improvement in the quality of life to the people of that economy.
For comparing one country s economic growth to another, GDP or GNP per capita should be used

The Mccarthy and the Salem Witch Hunts
The McCarthy Era of the 1950 s and the Salem Witch Trials of the 1600 s were major events in
American history that destroyed the lives and careers of many innocent victims. These tragic
events were similar in that they demonstrated how hard times lead to society s need to find a
scapegoat. They also show the shame and regret that take place after the bloodbaths occur. The
parallels between these two events, which took place almost 300 years apart, are remarkable.
However, the Salem Witchcraft Trials use of human frailty in court helped courts move forward in

By the early autumn of 1692, the cries of witchcraft began to ebb and doubts began to develop
concerning the validity of the charges. The educated elite of the colony began efforts to end the
witch hunting hysteria that had enveloped Salem. Increase Mather, the father of Cotton, published
Cases of Conscience, which argued that it were better that ten suspected witches should escape than
one innocent person should be condemned. Mather urged the court to exclude spectral evidence. A
period of atonement soon occurred in which Samuel Sewall, one of the judges, issued a public
confession of guilt and apology, and Reverend Parris admitted errors in judgment. He did, however,
attempt to shift the blame to others. Governor Phips shifted the blame to Stoughton, who became
the next Governor of Massachusetts.
However, Miller wrote The Crucible not simply as a straight historical play detailing the Salem
witch trials. Indeed, a good deal of the information in the play misrepresents the literal events of
the trial: John Proctor was not a farmer, not a tavern owner, and during the time of the trials he
was sixty years old and Abigail Williams only eleven. Rather, the play has as much significance as a
product of the early Cold War era in which Miller wrote the play. The play is a parable for the
McCarthy era, in which similar ВЊwitch hunts occurred targeting citizens as

the Telis of Orissa followed the path of Sanskritisation in the first quarter of the twentieth century.
However, the upper caste non Brahmins of Tamilnadu did not follow this path for attaining higher
status in the caste structure. They challenged: the higher status of the Brahmin. In the case of the
former, the upper castes were the reference group for the backward castes, whereas in the latter
case, the non Brahmins preferred to consider themselves Dravidians I,e, natives of the area, and
considered Brahmins alien intruders. Was a widerspread belief at the turn of the century that the

Sealed Air Corporation is the market leader in coated air bubble products in North America and
even Europe. In 1981, the case outlined the most difficult business challenge: the rapid
displacement of coated bubble by a technologically inferior yet inexpensive uncoated product.
Considering the current market trend, we recommend that Sealed Air should instantly enter the
uncoated market to maintain its leadership position in the market by cover more segments catered

Memphis Tennessee Case Study
Memphis, Tennessee is listed in the top five most violent cities in America. Memphis homicide
rate is close to two hundred and we have one more month to go before the end of 2016.
Description of Interest
Something has to change. This is what I have been telling myself over and over again. In the
city of Memphis, we have mothers killing their children. We have youths beating adults with
crow bars while robbing them of their money. We have other youths being convicted of killing a
mother who was a pizza delivery worker who refused to give up her money. We have poverty areas
that need daycare resources as well as tools to help single mothers. We also have too many
students being expelled from school due to various reasons. I decided ... Show more content on

An educational journey consists of effective study habits which will require researching various
sources, managing personal/family life, and balancing work and school. Research is very
important. It will either hurt you or help you, depending on your research skills and time
management skills. Research helps link one s ideas to true and tested studies that can help prove a
stance on a particular subject matter. When one is able to provide information backed up by
empirical studies, one s information can begin to flourish. For example, think about the various
magazines that are sold nationwide. The National Enquirer is seen to be a false, untrue magazine
that provides information about subject matters that are not even true. Even though, the National
Enquirer is a great attention getter, there are surmountable people who know the stories printed
inside are not believable. In regards to research, students should seek out reputable sources that
can enhance their writing skills which in turn will help to write a better paper. Research provides
valuable knowledge for the student. The student may already know the information but the
research will give added seasoning to that knowledge. Just like cooking, one knows how to cook a
turkey but, it s the seasonings that will bring the turkey to life. Those seasoning ideas may come
from various individuals.

Fm And Boston s Radio Wars Case Summary
Case Analysis:
WFNX 101.7 FM and Boston s Radio Wars
Situation Overview
WFNX was started in 1983 by The Phoenix Media/Communications Group, with the intent to
appeal to the newspaper s same audience of educated, affluent, single professionals and students
seeking different opinions from those offered by mainstream media. WFNX was a first mover in
the new wave or alternative rock music genre they offered something different and had a firm
commitment to the local music scene, and quickly became a leader in Boston s new music radio
niche.
As alternative rock caught on and WFNX s competitors began to pounce on the station s previously
unique market positioning, their struggles focused around a particular dilemma: How could a ...

These strategies seem vital if WFNX hopes to take back market share and create sustainable
presence in the long term.
Lastly, it would be wise for the station to invest in market research and to continue to differentiate
themselves through strong positioning and reinforced values, but these initiatives may be better
suited for future implementation, since the station s positioning and connection with/loyalty from
their existing audience has historically been one of the station s strengths.
(See optional Appendix A with full SWOT Analysis for support)
Appendix A: WFNX SWOT Analysis
STRENGTHS Clear positioning in the market When asked, the station was easily recalled and
recognized for their alternative music genre, despite lower ratings than competitors. Original
founder of alternative music Widely recognized as the leader in their space, awarded Alternative
Station of the Year by several trade magazines, and accredited by music industry critics. Known
for being closest to the street , WFNX claimed to be a niche marketed station that did not desire to
have the mass popularity and resulting market share of more mainstream stations like WBCN. Low
operating costs The biggest costs for a typical radio station included staffing costs, licensing fees
and marketing investment.

Battle of Belleau Wood Essay
In March 1918, with nearly 50 additional divisions freed by the Russian surrender on the Eastern
Front, the German Army launched a series of attacks on the Western Front, hoping to defeat the
Allies before U.S. forces could be fully deployed. In the north, the British 5th Army was virtually
destroyed by two major offensive operations, Michael and Georgette around the Somme. A third
offensive launched in May against the French between Soissons and Reims, known as the Third
Battle of the Aisne, saw the Germans reach the north bank of the Marne river at ChГўteau Thierry,
95 kilometres (59 mi) from Paris, on 27 May. Two U.S. Army divisions, the 2nd and the 3rd, were
thrown into the Allied effort to stop the Germans. On 31 May, the 3rd Division... Show more content

However, the Marines failed to scout the woods. As a consequence, they missed a regiment of
German infantry dug in, with a network of machine gun nests and artillery.[7] At dawn, the Marine
1st Battalion, 5th Marines commanded by Major Julius Turrill was to attack Hill 142, but only two
companies were in position. The Marines advanced in waves with bayonets fixed across an open
wheat field that was swept with German machine gun and artillery fire, and many Marines were cut
down.[9][10] Captain Crowther commanding the 67th Company was killed almost immediately.
Captain Hamilton and the 49th Company fought from wood to wood, fighting the entrenched
Germans and overrunning their objective by 6 yards (5.5 m). At this point, Hamilton had lost all
five junior officers, while the 67th had only one commissioned officer alive. Hamilton reorganized
the two companies, establishing strong points and a defensive line.[11] In the German counter
attack, then Gunnery Sergeant Ernest A. Janson who was serving under the name Charles
Hoffman repelled an advance of 12 German soldiers, killing two with his bayonet before the others
fled; for this action he became the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in World War I. Also
cited for advancing through enemy fire during the counter attack was then Gunner Henry
Hulbert.[12] The rest of the battalion now arrived and went into action.

Snow Removal Persuasive Essay
Has your car ever skidded on the road getting out of your neighborhood because of snow build up?
Snow removal is a big issue if it does not get taken care of correctly. In Violet Township, it can take
a while for the smaller roads to get plowed, if at all. There are many reasons that snow needs to be
removed. For one, snowbuildup can be very unsafe or those who drive on it. Looking in depth at the
problem of a lack of snow removal and how it affects people, as well as going into how what the
new policy should be as well as others available and how they could be implemented.
The problem being looked at is snow removal and why it should be a public policy. The lack of
snow removal can harm those who drive on the covered roads. This is an important issue
because many people have been hurt or harmed because of lack of removal. According to Safe
Winter Roads, there are more than 116,000 injuries and over 1,300 deaths in America due to snow
and ice per year. If the snow was taken care of correctly, then the amount of injuries and deaths
would go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has many benefits including letting personal drivers in the community be a part of the
snow removal process. This also has the ability to delegate the problem out to other sources to
help alleviate the problem. One disadvantage to this solution is that it the cost would rise. Snow
removal is already something that takes quite a bit of money to accomplish. According to
Butcher, snow and ice removal costs are usually on the order of $150,000 to $200,000 per year.
This includes labor, fuel, and salt . To be able to hire private people to plow the small streets
would add more money to the cost. The best way to get the extra money would be to raise taxes
for the people that reside in Violet Township. Many people are not found of paying taxes, let alone
raising the cost, therefore many people may not be found of this

Analysis Of The Chrysanthemums By John Steinbeck
When I was young I heard red chrysanthemums symbolize love and deep warmth. And Yellow
chrysanthemums symbolize neglected love or sadness. Thus, I picked the story the
chrysanthemums which was composed by John SteinbeckгЂ‚ The story is recited from a third
person; we are confident that we are sharing with a narrator, who is far away from the character s
feelings and emotions. Likewise, the story focuses on Elisa. It allows us omniscient access into
Elisa s thoughts, but for the most part, it does not draw her thoughts. This point of view is
necessary to the story because it is clearly showing us that men around the twenties disregard a lot
of beautiful and intelligent women like Elisa.
When Elisa is watching her husband with two other men studied the machine, the narrator
describes the Elisa s outfit for us, Her figure was blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a
man s black hat pulled low down over her eyes, clodhopper shoes, a figured print dress almost
completely covered by a big corduroy apron. In general, Elisa does not dress like a housewife ,
as a woman who has a business husband, she is supposed to put on a pretty dress, not being
unobtrusive of her beauty, rising child at home... However, Elisa would rather hold out like men
than wearing fancy dresses as a wealthy lady. Therefore, she is not exactly a girly girl. Straight
away, we know she s a character who will challenge the traditional ideas of femininity. Then in the
back to the story, after Elisa s gave the chrysanthemums to the tinker, she wears a beautiful dress,
and then her husband reacts surprise ... I mean you look different, strong and happy. Before when
she wears like a man he does not think Elisa is strong, even the chrysanthemum stems seemed too
small and easy for her energy , And from his response, he doesn t appreciate her beauty and her
strength that much. Maybe he never pays any attention to her. Henry saw Elisa is doing
something in the garden; he came near to her and observes, ... I wish you d work out in the
orchard and raise some apples that big. Her eyes sharpened. Maybe I could do it, too. I ve a gift
with things all right... Well it sure works with flowers, he said. This conversation between Henry
and Elisa

My Goals In My Life
The big question, What do I want to do with my life? floats through my mind more and more
often as graduation approaches. I have many goals and ambitions I wish to achieve after high
school, but deciding something as important as what career I should pursue has brought me much
uneasiness. These past few months I have struggled to figure out what I am truly passionate
about; however, as I mature I begin to find so much fulfillment in helping others, both mentally
and physically. Growing up with a sizable family is one of my most wonderful blessings. My
family and the environment that I have grown up in has had a tremendous impact on who I am
and who I aspire to be. Both of my parents immigrated from Mexico and became residents
approximately twenty five years ago. Neither of them graduated high schoolfor distinct reasons. My
dad now works diligently to provide for us and my mom takes care of the house and our needs.
They have taught me to put others before myself and have shaped me into who I am today. My
loved ones are one of my biggest inspirations. I strive to show them the person I can become and
the impact that I can have on others. Ever since I was a small child, I was fascinated with
animals and every aspect of nature. For the longest time, I believed I would aim to go into a field
of animal science/research. As I grow into my own skin I have begun to find different passions
within me. Leadership and service have taken a great role in my high school life and both

One of the reasons I don t think we should go to Mars is because it would take eight months to get there. Yeah, it would be cool to be the first person on Mars but you are taking a lot of risks. That is just one of my three reasons I don t think the benefits outweigh the risks. First, When you go to Mars it is a very long flight. According to the text Danger! This Mission to Mars Could Bore You to Death! in paragraph 2 the author states With current technology, the journey takes more than eight months each way I think being in a spaceship for 8 months in such a small space could not only take a long time, but it would make you really tired. • 3. Osteoporosis Is An Age Related Disease Of The Skeletal System Introduction: Osteoporosis is an age related disease of the skeletal system characterized by both low bone mass and bone structural degeneration (Nunes, 2011). Understanding osteoporosis is important because it is continues to be overlooked and undertreated, causing high numbers of bone fractures each year in the elderly, these bone fractures can be debilitating or even life threatening (Eastell, 2009). Osteoporosis manifests when an imbalance between bone resorption and bone rebuilding occurs this is due to changes in osteoclast and osteoblast activity. I chose this topic because osteoporosis affects millions of people, and research will allow me to better understand this common yet complex, and very perilous bone disease. Types: There are two types of osteoporosis, primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is more common and has no direct cause. It is usually more prevalent in women who are postmenopausal where the rate of bone loss increases while the rate of bone regeneration decreases. Secondary osteoporosis, unlike primary, has a direct cause, such as an illness like leukemia, cushings syndrome, or type 1 diabetes. These diseases cause an increase in bone resorption, and weakening of the bones. Pathophysiology: Bones are made up of two layers, the trabecular and cortical layers. The trabecular layer is internal and spongy like, where the cortical layer is external and more compact. These layers are continuously broken down and reformed by two cells known as ... • 4. Essay On Judgement In To Kill A Mockingbird Beneath the Skin There will always be that one person that gets hate and one that everybody loves. Living up to other s expectation is an intricate way to fit in with society. Judgement isn t the only problem in this generation; judging somebody by their actions and appearances cause people to be outcasted which makes an impact on society. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the narrator, Scout Finch, sums up what has happened in her preteen years, along with her brother, Jem Finch. As they are growing up, they face conflicts throughout their hometown, Maycomb. Maycomb is a small little town in Alabama full of judgemental racist hypocrites. One day, their dad, Atticus Finch, is set off to handle a case about an African American, Tom Robinson, being framed for raping a young white girl, Mayella Ewell, daughter in of the lowest families. As a lawyer, Atticus was up with Tom. After losing the case against Mayella s dad, Bob Ewells, Scout, and Jem have lost their social issues. In a city like Maycomb, residents and citizens are making critiques while being prejudice when it comes to segregation and racism. Furthermore, the novel explains that people like to judge and reject the unfamiliar. Judgement is one of society s biggest conflict. In chapter 9, Atticus tries to explain to the housekeeper, Calpurnia, about why he wants the kids to grow up in the right direction saying, Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is ... • 5. Machiavelli The Prince Chapter 1 Analysis During the Reformation, a resurgence of Christian humanistic thoughts and values appeared which focused on religious revival (Hunt et al. 448). Humanism emphasizes rational thought in solving problems over divine or supernatural matters. During the Reformation, young, educated clerics, funded by wealthy merchants and wealthy families, travelled throughout Europeto spread their Christian faith to more people. During the Renaissanceperiod, humanists sought to return to classical Greek, a departure from Latin language and literature. The integration of humanist ideology and religionis a departure from modern humanist theory which removes all traces of theology or supernatural belief, requiring the person to affirm their individual responsibility to leading an ethical life. In The Prince, Machiavelli takes a humanistic approach to governing. In Chapter I, he discusses the maintenance of power and rule within the republics and principalities. Principalities, he explains, are hereditary, passed from one generation to the next or they are newly formed (Machiavelli). Conversely, the English rulers of the ... North of the Alps, lords loyal to the royal crown gained control over different regions. However, if the king felt the lord was no longer loyal or failed to pay proper taxes and respect to the king, the crown could strip the family of their names and titles, passing it to a different family. Further strengthening their belief in their divine authority, kings and royalty would amass great wealth through taxation and continuous fighting between factions. • 8. Pathetic Fallacy In The Great Gatsby The Great Pathetic Fallacy Smiling in the sunshine or seething in a storm, setting is simply a stirring way to set a scene and scrupulously supply significance to a story. In F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, it s easy to understand the atmosphere during important events such as Daisy and Gatsby s reunion and when Tom confronts Gatsby, this is because of pathetic fallacy. The Great Gatsby uses the weatherto show and emphasise the emotions of the characters allowing the reader to interpret the plot and mood of important events thoroughly. The weather varies and changes often during Daisy and Gatsby s reunion, allowing the reader to effectively read the situation and follow the intense emotions both Daisy and Gatsby are feeling. When Nick invites Daisy to his house as a favor to Gatsby, he opens the door to Gatsby and states, Gatsby, pale as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes. With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire, and disappeared into the livingв€’room... Aware of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to against the increasing rain. (Fitzgerald 45) The increasing rain shows the increasing anxiety Gatsby, and perhaps Nick feels in this situation and Gatsby standing in the puddle of water shows how his anxiousness is engulfing him. The use of pathetic fallacy here shows how much Gatsby cares about how this meeting with Daisy will go and that he fears of a bad reaction to him suddenly appearing. Daisy and Gatsby talk for a while, afterwards, Nick brings up the weather, It s stopped raining. Has it? When he realized what I was talking about, that there were twinkleв€’bells of sunshine in the room, he smiled like a weather man, like an ecstatic patron of recurrent light, and repeated the news to Daisy. What do you think of that? It s stopped raining. I m glad, Jay. Her throat, full of aching, grieving beauty, told only of her unexpected joy (47) The end of the rain signifies the end of Gatsby s and Daisy s worries, and exhibits their newfound joy. The pair bond over the now clear skies, or their lack of inhibitions and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The End Of The War In Autumn of 1918 it all started, desertion rates were dramatically rising in the German army, civil strikes reduced German war, protection, this was the beginning of the end of the war. While the German army was slowly collapsing the Americans found their perfect chance to vitally strike the German army. The Americans then launched the essential Hundred Day Offensive which was the concluding offensive period of the war. The Hundred Day Offense that vitally pushed Germany out of France, therefore, forcing them to retreat beyond the Hindenburg Line. The Hindenburg Line was the allied term for the German Siegfriedstellung that was built during the winter of 1916 1917 and was a German defense position on the eastern front. Once the Germans retreated to the Hindenburg line the Americans carried out a 56 hour bombardment followed by the breach of the almost defunct Hindenburg Line. This war the end of war? • 10. Essay on Structure Of The Lost Honour O Heinrich BГ¶ll uses his novel, The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, to attack modern journalistic ethics as well as the values of contemporary Germany. The structure of this novel is important to conveying his message. He uses a police report format, differences in chapter lengths, narrator or author intervention, a subtitle, and the extensive use of the puddle metaphor. All these things contribute towards the message in the text. The puddle metaphor is the most significant device used in the structure of the novel. The puddle ; means the collective information from all the sources. The narrator speaks of the information as fluid and he also talks of the conduction of the information coming from these different sources. There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around this time is the celebratory period of Carnival. However there is no hint of any celebratory moods in the tone. It is all extremely formal. It can be said that the format of this book is related to how Katharina Blum herself lives her life. The possible reason that this story is set in this police report format is that Heinrich BГ¶ll wants the reader to know the facts since all the facts come together in the end. The story uses flashbacks so the reader knows what is happening somewhere else at the same time. It could be said that the reader is finding out all this information in the same order as the police investigation. It seems that the information is scattered and, just like the police, the reader has to try and piece together the puzzle. However, this is all done for the reader in the end. This is another example of how the puddle metaphor is used. The information scattered means that the channel is always changing course. The tone of this story, and even the text itself says that this is a police report, but the use of short and long chapters could possibly suggest something different. In the short chapters there are little bursts of action, whilst in the longer chapters it goes into far more detail. This is like a newspaper in a way, the headlines with the bursts of action, and the pages the story is continued on go into more detail, however, this reasoning is probably incorrect since the author is trying ... • 12. How Does Henri Nouwen Speak In A Pattern Of Christian... If anyone has the authority to speak on Christian leadership, it is Henri Nouwen because of his professorship at Ivy League Universities and long standing role as a priest. Yet Nouwen leans not on either of these credentials; instead, he shares his reflections on leadership that he learned while serving at Daybreak community for handicapped people. What is more, Nouwen learned the most amazing leadershipprinciples when he was asked to speak in Washington D. C. on leadership and Daybreak sent a resident named Bill Van Buren with him. Out of this experience, Nouwen creates a pattern of Christian leadership based on Jesustemptation in the wilderness. Nouwen believes that all leaders are similarly tempted. Therefore, Nouwen follows the pattern of task, question and discipline, which give great insights into a true Christian leader. Furthermore, Nouwen shares many amazing leadership lessons and the most impactful lessons are: the need for prayer over competence, embracing brokenness within a leader s life and the role of community in leadership. First of all, Nouwen addresses the influence of culture upon Christian leadership. His assessment is that the culture seems to think that competence is all that is needed to deal with problems in life. He shares the culture s sentiment by eloquently stating, The problem is not lack of faith, but lack of competence. If you are sick, you need a competent doctor; if you are poor, you need competent politicians; if there are technical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Voter registration is a critical prerequisite, and prospective voters must understand the applicable policies and procedures of successful registration. Voting requirements may differ in each state, so it is important for a voter to be aware of these rules as well. Although Pennsylvania and Maryland voter registration and voting rules are similar in some respects, there are key differences. In order to register to vote in Pennsylvania, a person must be a citizen of the United States for one month prior to the election, a resident of Pennsylvania and the desired election district, and eighteen years old on or before the election day. Pennsylvanians who wish to vote must register thirty days prior to the election. To register to vote in Maryland, a person must be a United States citizen and a Maryland resident. Authors such as Shakespeare and Aristotle, and modern examples such as J.K Rolling and Mark Twain all have used and perfected these conventions while writing their famous pieces. These conventions and techniques are exemplified by Keith Powell s through his play, Odds Are. Where he uses an array of the conventions and techniques of comedy, such as the usage of flattened stock characters and ridicule throughout his work. At the beginning of his play, Powell presents his audience with his two protagonists Molly and James, who recently broke up with each other after dating for a couple of years. Each protagonist simultaneously experiments with the dating scene, by dating an array of different (and unbeknownst to them) flawed characters, who are set up by James s sister and Molly s friend Elizabeth. The characters that Powell introduces to the audiences through these dates, are flattened stock characters possessing very obvious and seemingly nuclear flaws. • 28. The Right And Bear Arms Christal Blege April 23, 2015 Professor Swint. The right to bear arms? Our second amendment right is something that I feel that most Americans would go to war over. I never grew up around guns, I have never held a gun, or discharged a gun. More importantly, I have never used a gun to protect me, my property or my family. This is why I fail to see the fascination people have with the right to own a gun, especially military grade firearms like assault rifles. Assault rifles were designed to kill people and have no legitimate civilian purpose. (Infobased Learning 2008) So why then is ok for every ordinary Joe over the age of 21 with a permit to own one. Statistically speaking one in every three people in the U.S. own at least one firearm, and of those 48% own four or more firearms. In the past 40 years the percentage of gun ownership has gone from forty seven percent to thirty four percent. But guns do serve other purposes like protection and safety. When having a conversation about gun rights it is clear that it veers towards American standards and values. It comes back to a very basic question, how big of a role should the government have in our everyday lives. We put our faith in our justice system most of the time. So when the highest court in the land gets together and debates and interprets the second amendment to mean that the individual has the right to own guns, we shouldn t debate it. another argument that gun control supporters use is ,with stricter gun ... After gaining independence, the epicenter of perceived encroachment of Arab autonomy by the West was found in the Jewish state of Israel. Furthermore, the United States military support of Israelwas also seen as an extension of colonialism. The colonial legacy of the British and the French occupations in the Middle Eastled to the belief that Israel was another imperial force that would infringe upon the rights of the Arab world. To fuel its strong hatred of colonialism and Israel, the Arab states had the ability to harness their resources to pressure the international community to be less pro Israel. The Middle East contains some of the world s largest oil reserves, and this oil gives them a lot of economic clout because the use of oil for energy purposes is essential for nearly every nation s survival. Most of the world has some degree of dependence on Arab oil, and the Arab states can use this power as political leverage. In an effort to utilize this oil power against Israel and its supporters, the Arab nations enacted oil production cutbacks and an oil embargo in 1973. To have an effective embargo, the participation of all Arab nations was necessary. • 36. Sexuality In Dracula After decades of cheesy horror movies, the image of vampires has been misconstrued as sparkly, angsty teenage boys or handsome men that lure in girls for the fresh blood of a virgin. Many of these stereotypical vampires are influenced by the story of Dracula, held in the Victorian era. Yet, many of the stories published about vampires diverge from the message that Bram Stoker is trying to make. During the Victorian period, sexuality is repressed by society, as sexual behaviors from women are viewed as unacceptable. In the Gothic horror novel Dracula, Bram Stoker uses the traumatic experience of Jonathan Harker at Count Dracula s castle and the invasion of vampires in Great Britain to create a social commentary on the sexual repression occurring in this era and its detrimental effect on the men. Throughout the entire novel, Stoker hints at sexual references, based on the characters actions. In every encounter with female vampires, there is a perverse tone in the wordings of the passage. For example, during Jonathan Harker s visit to Count Dracula s castle, he encounters three vampire sisters after he disobeys Dracula s order to not leave his room. Harker s heart has a wicked, burning desire (Stoker 32) that the three sisters would kiss him. He shows carnal desires as he is approached by these vampires, unable to refuse their advances on to him, despite his loyalty to Mina. This reveals that the men of the Victorian era cannot refuse and maybe even fear the unknown sexual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mccarthy and the Salem Witch Hunts The McCarthy Era of the 1950 s and the Salem Witch Trials of the 1600 s were major events in American history that destroyed the lives and careers of many innocent victims. These tragic events were similar in that they demonstrated how hard times lead to society s need to find a scapegoat. They also show the shame and regret that take place after the bloodbaths occur. The parallels between these two events, which took place almost 300 years apart, are remarkable. However, the Salem Witchcraft Trials use of human frailty in court helped courts move forward in eliminating its use. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the early autumn of 1692, the cries of witchcraft began to ebb and doubts began to develop concerning the validity of the charges. The educated elite of the colony began efforts to end the witch hunting hysteria that had enveloped Salem. Increase Mather, the father of Cotton, published Cases of Conscience, which argued that it were better that ten suspected witches should escape than one innocent person should be condemned. Mather urged the court to exclude spectral evidence. A period of atonement soon occurred in which Samuel Sewall, one of the judges, issued a public confession of guilt and apology, and Reverend Parris admitted errors in judgment. He did, however, attempt to shift the blame to others. Governor Phips shifted the blame to Stoughton, who became the next Governor of Massachusetts. However, Miller wrote The Crucible not simply as a straight historical play detailing the Salem witch trials. Indeed, a good deal of the information in the play misrepresents the literal events of the trial: John Proctor was not a farmer, not a tavern owner, and during the time of the trials he was sixty years old and Abigail Williams only eleven. Rather, the play has as much significance as a product of the early Cold War era in which Miller wrote the play. The play is a parable for the McCarthy era, in which similar ВЊwitch hunts occurred targeting citizens as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, I picked the story the chrysanthemums which was composed by John SteinbeckгЂ‚ The story is recited from a third person; we are confident that we are sharing with a narrator, who is far away from the character s feelings and emotions. Likewise, the story focuses on Elisa. It allows us omniscient access into Elisa s thoughts, but for the most part, it does not draw her thoughts. This point of view is necessary to the story because it is clearly showing us that men around the twenties disregard a lot of beautiful and intelligent women like Elisa. When Elisa is watching her husband with two other men studied the machine, the narrator describes the Elisa s outfit for us, Her figure was blocked and heavy in her gardening costume, a man s black hat pulled low down over her eyes, clodhopper shoes, a figured print dress almost completely covered by a big corduroy apron. In general, Elisa does not dress like a housewife , as a woman who has a business husband, she is supposed to put on a pretty dress, not being unobtrusive of her beauty, rising child at home... However, Elisa would rather hold out like men than wearing fancy dresses as a wealthy lady. Therefore, she is not exactly a girly girl. Then in the back to the story, after Elisa s gave the chrysanthemums to the tinker, she wears a beautiful dress, and then her husband reacts surprise ... I mean you look different, strong and happy. Before when she wears like a man he does not think Elisa is strong, even the chrysanthemum stems seemed too small and easy for her energy , And from his response, he doesn t appreciate her beauty and her strength that much.
