Water Simulation Lab Report
Introduction Water is the most abundant resource on the planet and is one that is vital to all living
organisms. Plants especially depend greatly on water and contain structures in their body in order to
use the water efficiently. Water relations is a research field that deals with investigating how
environmental factors affect the plant s usage of the water (Bot 201L lab manual, 2016). A study was
conducted to see how low water in the soil affected the uptake of water in Alfalfa leaves and if it had
any effect on the plant s photosynthesis rate. (Abid et al, 2016). It was found that there was a
correlation between the photosynthesis rate and the amount of water the leaves would uptake since the
stomata on the alfalfa leaves would remain closed (Abid et al, 2016). Since the stomata would close

Stomata closure is a coping strategy that plants use when there is low water available in the soil which
prevents cavitation in the vessels of the xylem (Huber, 2015). It is also found that stomatal closure not
only helps regulate transpiration in plants that have low water availability, but it also increases its
water use efficiency (Huber, 2015). Wind is also considered to be a factor that affects transpiration in
plants. Another study observed the effects of stomatal distribution (such as amphistomatous leaves) in
leaves of a plant in low wind environments (Foster, 1986). The experiment found that amphistomatous
leaves had the greatest transpiration rate at low wind speeds while hyperstomatous leaves had a higher
transpiration rate than the hypostomatous leaves (Foster, 1986). Leaves contain what is called a
boundary layer that can be defined as a still layer of fluid containing gasses and liquid that surround
the leaf that affects the movement of CO2 and water in the leaves depending on its thickness (Bot
201L lab manual, 2016). In this study, the effects of wind will be observed on the transpiration rate
and stomatal conductance in the leaves of

The Metaphors Of Characters In King Lear By William...
Good my lord,
You have begot me, bred me, loved me.
I return those duties back as are right fit:
Obey you, love you, and most honor you.
Why have my sisters husbands if they say
They love you all? Happy, when I shall wed,
That lord whose hand must take my plight shall carry
Half my love with him, half my care and duty.
Sure, I shall never marry like my sisters,
To love my father all.
(1.1.95 103)
This quote is coming from Cordelia in the first scene of the first act. Lear has just called his three
daughters in and is dividing up his kingdom. The daughters are telling Lear how much they love him
in order to influence the decision on dividing the kingdom. Regan and Goneril both lie and say that
they love him more than words can express but Cordelia doesn t lie and tells the truth. In this quote,
she says, Lear you have raised me and loved me and I m returning the favor. I love you just as I
should, I obey you, I love you and I honor you. Hopefully, when I get married I will give you my
husband and half of my love. This quote is showing that in King Lear, Shakespeare uses characters to
represent something greater. In the story, there are a few main characters that are big metaphors one
being King Lear representing madness and insanity. A second being Goneril representing greed and
lastly, Gloucester used to show the metaphors of people not opening their eyes to what s actually
going on. All these metaphors have an important lesson to them that can be applied into the

The Impact Of Reconstruction And Its Impact On African...
History has been marked by many major events and people throughout the years. Today that has not
changed, changes, people and events keep presenting themselves making a mark in history for future
generations to hear, learn, and study them. One interesting topic in history is Reconstruction. To
further understand Reconstruction, one needs to know what happened during this period, how it came
to exist and the impact it had on African Americans. The Reconstruction era was a period of time that
lasted for fourteen years. Reconstruction began in 1863, just after America had finish fighting the
Civil War. The Civil War settled the constitutional crisis that were provoked by the secessions of the
Confederacy as well as giving freedom to millions of slaves, more than four million to be exact,
upsetting many white southerners. This freedom was obtain by the 13th Amendment which abolished
slavery. In other words ended slavery. This impacted many African Americans mainly for the reason
being that most had no idea on how to make a living on their own. At the time President Lincoln and
Congress helped African Americans by providing them with food, clothing and leasing them land so
they can have somewhere to make a living. In addition, Lincoln had more plans for Reconstruction.
One of his plan consisted on bringing the seceded states back into the Union. However, before his
plans were tested Lincoln was assassinated while attending a theater. Continuing with what Lincoln

What Is The Connection Between The Irish Potato Famine And...
The Irish Potato Famine and The Holocaust in Literature
Writers often use literature as a means of communicating traumatic events that occur in history, and
such events are recorded by first hand accounts as well as remembered by people far removed from
the situation. Two traumatic events in history that are readily found in literature are The Irish Potato
Famine and The Holocaust. A literary medium that has been used quite poignantly to convey trauma is
poetry and the poetry from these two historical traumatic events is not difficult to find. Some wrote
poetry to maintain their sanity as they experienced the traumatic event while others wrote after the fact
as an outlet for emotional pain. Some wrote in remembrance of what they ... Show more content on

The author also benefits from writing about the trauma; a need to express what has happened, is
quenched. It is shown that the literature of trauma is written from the need to tell and retell the story of
the traumatic experience, to make it real both to the victim and to the community...[as well as] serving
both as a validation and cathartic vehicle for the traumatized author (Tal 21). The story is larger than
the words of the author. His or her life has been permanently altered by trauma, and by acknowledging
it in the realm of reality, readers can take part in the trauma.
In both of the historical events above, a great many people faced trauma, pain, starvation, disease, and
all for a reason that is difficult, if not impossible to pinpoint. There is no way to determine why either
situation occurred in history, but it is possible to examine the literature more specifically the poetry
written during, after, and about those surreal events. Kali Tal has researched the literature of trauma
extensively and states that the literature of trauma is defined by the identity of its author [and it] holds
at its center the reconstruction and recuperation of the traumatic experience (16). She believes that a

Analysis Of The Movie Infamy
Infamy: The Shocking Story of the Japanese American Internment in World War II
On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Imperial Japan. Soon after the attack, hundreds
of Japanese Americans were being arrested across the country. Within ten weeks President Franklin D.
Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the detention of the American Japanese. The
author Richard Reeves, is a Senior Lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the
University of Southern California. He was educated as a mechanical engineer, and he began his
journalism career at the age of 23. He has fifteen publications, six films, and has received thirteen
awards. The book has an image of Japanese children with the look of sorrow and a suitcase for the
background of the book cover. In the center of the book there is a huge, vibrant red circle that contains
the title in bold black letters which captures the viewer s eyes. The title Infamy, meaning the state of
being well known for some bad quality or deed makes one s curiosity wonder why the author would
title a book like this that has Japanese children on it. Richard Reeves proves to know how to inform
people of American history considering all the awards, and ratings he has received for his works.
Immediately after the attack many Japanese newspapers in the United States were delivering patriotic
words towards America but that did not stop the hundreds of Japanese Americans being arrested. Less

Virtual Body Circulation, Respiration, Breathing
Ventilation is a process in which our body extracts oxygen from the atmosphere and releases carbon
dioxide as a byproduct. Overall, this process exchanges air between our lungs and the atmosphere.
According to Boyle s Law, at a constant temperature, pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to
volume. Therefore, when we breathe in, the chest cavity expands, and the pressure inside the lungs
becomes slightly lower than the atmospheric pressure.
When the muscles relax and the volume of the chest cavity decreases, the air inside the lungs is forced
out. This is the process of expiration .
For normal breathing, 3% of the body s energy is used.

Land Destruction By Tourist Attractions
Land Destruction by Tourist Attraction Beaches are used as a tourist attraction. Coral reefs are an
example of marine life endangered by this idea. Though coral reefs are beautiful to view, boats on top
of the coral can destroy and hit the reefs. This is a big problem because coral reefs are home to
millions of marine life. According to the book, Destroying the Oceans, coral reefs are home to one
quarter of Earth s marine animals and plants . With that, many habits are also destroyed. Sea turtles are
not only affected by pollution, but they are also affected by tourist attraction. On September 5 in Costa
Rica, a group of tourists prevented sea turtles from nesting along the coastline. The sea turtles are
protected by the Ostional Wildlife Refuge. Due to the high volume of tourists of that day, the refuge
was unable to prevent the disaster from happening. Some tourists touched the turtles, others stood on
top of the nests, and parents placed their children on top of the turtles to take photographs (L. Arias).

atmosphere, humans are the main cause of global warming. Since the beginning of the 1900s, the

Why Saddam Hussein Ruled Iraq
Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for almost a third of the country s existence as an independent nation.
Since its beginning, Iraq was divided by ethnicity and tribal structures representing alternative socio
political communities in competition with central state government. In fact, Iraq has always been a
weak state defined as having just enough power and coercive force for the central government to
remain in control and its viability over time depended on its ability to govern and enforce laws. The
durability of tribal structures, particularly those in the sparsely populated Sunni portions of the
country, made it difficult for the Iraqi government to absorb and integrate them (Crone, 1993). These
problems were exacerbated by the faction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process reflected the historic ebb and flow of tribal power, as well as the political durability of
tribal structures able to broker allegiance for privileged influence. Powerful Sunni tribes and tribal
confederations like the Jubur, Dulaym, Tayy, Khazraj, al Azza, Harb, Maghamis, Mushahadah,
Luhayb, and Ubayd became accustomed to receiving significant money and autonomy, as well as
privileged positions within government (Otterman, 2003). Giving them these benefits in exchange for
their allegiance benefited Hussein, however it also established these tribes as power brokers within the
context of post invasion Iraq, something bound to hinder the development of Iraqi democracy and
nationalism. If Sunni tribes, representing a third of the Iraqi population, could choose which
government to support or require exclusive privileges from their continued acquiescence, the prospect
of forming an effective Iraqi democracy seemed to require strengthening the central government by
weakening the tribes. However, the ongoing Iraqi insurgency, largely fueled by the same Sunni tribes,
drove the United States into adopting policies the reinforced tribal power. The became particularly
evident in the 2007 2008 period when the United States

America s Rights Of Utah
It seemed as though the U.S. would never allow Utah to become a state, at least as long as they
practiced polygamy, which was one issue they wouldn t budge on. Republicans stated that it was
Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery.
(Republican Platform of 1856)
By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws
of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the
Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood,
Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S.
government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally
enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of
Utah. (Davis)
In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more
Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. As seen in Nebraska s
admission to the Union (1867), the population increased almost ten times, from 120,000 to just over
1,000,000 in 1890, only 23 years later. (Dalstrom) Congress hoped that by granting statehood to the
mainly Mormon territory of Utah there will be an influx of non Mormons to balance out the
population. Congress turned out to be accurate. Utah s population at

Ibm Is Generating A High Profit Essay
average of 1% IBM is generating a high profit margin to earn a greater profit.
Return on Assets:
Return on Assets (ROA) measures how profitably a company uses their assets by net income divided
by the average total assets. Assets are either tangible or intangible items the company owns. For
example, things like buildings, equipment, cash, office supplies, or accounts receivable (receiving
cash from customers on services you have performed). To find the average total assets, you use the
same idea as the return on equity method, but instead you add up all of the assets and average them,
instead of using just one account. IBM measured ROA of 13% in 2013 and 10% in 2014. In order to
know how well the company did, it s best to compare these percentages to the industry average of
1.6% to get a better idea of where they stand. In this case, IBM produces more profit for every $1,
than the industry average. Even though there may have been a slight decline, IBM is still currently
producing well above.
Profitability Conclusion: IBM was well above the industry average for all of the profitability ratios
with given industry averages. Although the company was successful in this category it doesn t mean
the company is successful as a whole. There are other groups to consider before making a final
judgement on how well IBM s performance is. Stockholder/Investor Relations: Stockholder s purchase

What Is The Purpose Of The Lottery
The Lottery , a short story by Shirley Jackson, features a small town during the highly anticipated
lottery. The lottery is an annual event, organized by Mr. Summers, the jovial man who runs the coal
business. It is a highly important time, as the whole town comes to the town square on the day of the
lottery. The guidelines are quite simple: everyone takes a slip of paper out of the symbolic black box,
and the slip of paper with the black mark carved on it, is the lucky winner . But the town s definition
of the lottery is different一usually, a lottery is a valuable thing to win. But when Tessie Hutchinson,
the lucky winner gets her reward by getting stoned to death by the rest of the villagers, it is clear that
winning this lottery can t be a good affair... so what is the purpose of this lottery? Rather than
discontinuing the lottery, the town continues with it because they don t want to upset an old tradition.
To begin with, the lottery is especially old. In support of this, on page 23, lines 280 282 it says :
Seventy seventh year I been in the lottery, Old Man Warner said as he went through the crowd.
Seventy seventh time . Old Man Warner is the oldest man in town. If he remembers participating in

Analyzing Dante s The Divine Comedy
Part 1 How does Dante use metaphors/allegories as mechanisms for articulating his vision of Christian
ethos? Consider how the work is structured and how punishment is meted out and his use of
contrapasso.
Durante degli Alighieri, usually referred to as Dante (1265 1321), was an Italian poet, moral
philosophers, and political thinker best known for his epic poem La divina commedia. Essentially, The
Divine Comedy describes Dante s journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise guided at first by the
Roman poet Virgil, and then by Beatrice, the subject of his undying love. In many ways, though, the
poem is both a literary story of a journey and a commentary about the political and moral issues of the
time; Christianity, royalty, privilege, class, and most certainly the concept of sin and the Devil.
Besides being a treatise on the socio political climate of the time, Dante used the concept of Hell and
Satan to explain human imperfection and a way to see another organization within the temporal world.
Dante parodies the Trinity in the three parts of Satan, but also paints a mythology that became truth for
many, and certainly part and parcel of modern popular culture. Satan in Dante s works is quite familiar
to the mModern individual: demonic, able to possess a human s free will, lizard like but able to
pretend, a liar, thief of sould, and the archenemy of God and all that is good in the universe
(Anderson, 2010, 365 75).
As a poem, The Divine Comedy uses metaphors quite

Count Of Monte Cristo Revenge Quotes
Did the Count of Monte Cristo get complete revenge? Edmond Dantés was framed and put in jail for
14 years. He later found out that Fernand, Danglars, and Caderousse were behind it. Villefort was also
an accomplice. He vowed vengeance and he spent most of his life leading up to that revenge. When he
finally gets his revenge he is confused on why he does not feel all that accomplished. Edmond Dantés
did get complete revenge because he believes he has gotten revenge, he lived well, and because his
actions fit the definition of revenge. First, Edmond believes he has gotten revenge. He tells Mercedes
that, God brought me back from the living dead to punish them! And I will have my revenge! so he
believes that he is carrying out justice (Dumas, page 377). After his revenge is carried out he is
confused about why he feels guilty and why he does not feel fulfilled. He starts to wonder if he has
done wrong because of his revenge. Then when Haydee confesses her love for him he exclaims, God,
who raised me up against my enemies and made me victorious, didn t want me to have this penance at
the end of my victory. I wanted to punish myself, but God wishes to forgive me! (Dumas page 529).
He believes that his revenge has been carried out and he is satisfied with it. If he believes he has
gotten revenge then he has. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Partition onf India
The Partition of India in August, 1947 was a significant event in history that accounted for the
separation of one of the world s oldest civilization into two, independent nations Pakistan and India.
Like many other wars in history, The Partition of India was instigated by religious, political and social
conflict. This resulted in violence, discrimination and the largest human displacement in contemporary
history. While the Partition was well studied, much of our understanding was focused on the political
side of history, not the human side of it. This was why oral history played an important role in
manifesting the complexity of a historical event. Our focus here is Maya Rani s testimony from
Butalia s book, The Other Side of Silence: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Rani, people dying here, others dying there (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268) was something that
happened every day, it was no surprise to her. Thus, Rani s cynical view about the future of India and
Pakistan was conceivably drawn from memories of witnessing horrendous fights and strife throughout
her whole life (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268).
Official documents have little say about women and children of the Partition as they were viewed as a
collective. Earlier reports on the abduction of women only gave the reader the statistics and brief
statements that glorified community nationalism rather than the victims itself. Many failed to dwell
into the individual trauma of this particular group (Menon Bhasin, 1998, p.11). Rani s testimony was
significant in that not only it opened us to another outlook from a witness point of view; it also
revealed that people who were not physically involved were also affected psychologically. This was
also the only part in the testimony where Rani displayed sympathy and grievance. Her sensitivity and
deep connection with these victims correlated with age and gender. Her emphasis on the words young
and girl throughout her testimony evoked our sense of disbelief that people would do such inhumane
things to each other (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.271). Her hesitant manner, evident

The Importance Of Neglect
The prevalence of strokes in our country and our world are high. Globally, a stroke claims a life about
every ten seconds. If an individual has a stroke and survives, it is also the leading cause of disability

is experiencing hemispatial neglect following a stroke. Hemispatial neglect, or neglect, is claimed to
occur in about a third of all stroke patients (Klinke et al., 2015). Neglect is a disorder of attention that
typically follows brain damage that is unilateral. It has been reported as a strong predictor of stroke

Like most people, I look forward to a vacation, but planning it can become overwhelming if you re not
prepared. Planning a vacation should be fun and exciting. Vacationing is not always a priority to many
families due to economic distress, but as little as a few hundred dollars you can plan a weekend
getaway that s inexpensive but a lot of fun! The best vacation my family ever took was one that we
didn t stress on planning. My husband and I kept it simple. We packed our bags early and hid ... Show

Consider your finances and what you re willing to spend. After deciding on what weekend you ll be
leaving, finding a place to stay is the next thing to plan. Most places fill up early. Make hotel, car and
other reservations as soon as you can. Quality and prices vary with each hotel. Some rates are as low
as $30 a night, while some rates are as high as $200 a night or more. Picking a room that s not in a
scenic area or without a view is usually cheaper. Each hotel offers different rates and quality. More
expensive places offer kitchenettes, suites, fireplaces, heated pools, and more. Search online for
coupon codes, AAA, AARP, Military or Government discounts. For the least expensive trip, you could
plan a camping trip in a state park, but for some that would mean a larger expense of purchasing tents,
sleeping bags and camping gear. Unless you re prepared for a camping trip, plan to stay in a hotel or
cabin.
Have a checklist prepared when packing for your trip. Know what the climate will be during the times
that you re there. Know what days or nights you ll need formal clothing, casual clothing, or swimwear.
Make sure that you pack so you re not buying needed things that you may already have at home.
Consider the amount of luggage you re taking in case you ll be flying. Pack things such as moist
towlettes, money, passports, medicine and sunglasses. Consider small children when traveling as they
become bored and wear out easily. Pack plenty

Air France KLM Financial Analysis.
Before reading I chose Air France as a company to analyze it financially speaking. But, as my major is

especially for main indicators (EBIT, ROC, ROA, P/E...). It will be mentioned when done so.

Types Of Nonsense Point Mutation
Genetic Disorders of Nonsense Point Mutations
Gene expression is regulated by the cell, and genetic mutations can cause permanent changes in the
cell s genetic material. Specifically, one type of mutation that occurs in a cell s DNA is a nonsense
point mutation. In this type of mutation, a chemical change in only one nitrogenous base results in a
premature stop codon. This causes the translation to end early. In the given strand of DNA, the
nitrogenous base Adenine was affected. Thymine was substituted in Adenine s place. Therefore, the
amino acid chain was altered, causing a premature stop codon. The sequence no longer continued after
the stop codon was in place due to the mutation. However, if no mutation occurred, the polypeptide ...

Hurler syndrome is one of three types of mucopolysaccharidosis and it is the most severe. The
symptoms of Hurler Syndrome usually appear between the ages of three and eight (Foster, 2017).
Many infants with severe Hurler syndrome demonstrate no symptoms until later in life. A few
symptoms of this disorder are as followed: claw hands, deafness, stunted growth, joint disease,
progressive intellectual disability, and retardation (A.D.A.M, 2017). Moreover, symptoms of this
disease can range from mild to severe. Foster (2017) demonstrates that patients with this disease have
thick, coarse facial features and low nasal bridges. A series of examinations, such as an EKG and a
spinal X ray, can be executed to test for Hurler Syndrome early on.
Though both disorders are incurable, there is a plethora of treatment options available. For example,
Eteplirsen is an approved injection medication that helps treat individuals with a specific mutation of
the gene that leads to DMD (Anirudh, 2017). However, the most commonly seen side effects of this
treatment option are balance problems and vomiting. Eteplirsen works by increasing the production of
dystrophin which could ultimately improve muscle function. In addition, surgeries are also available
to fix shortened muscles, straighten the spine, or treat a heart or lung problem. Steroids such as
prednisone slow muscle damage.

Fire Island, A Historical Overview Essay
Fire Island, A Historical Overview Rhythmic waves, high dunes, ancient maritime forests, historic
landmarks and glimpses of wildlife Fire Island has been a special place for diverse plants, animals and
people for centuries The origin of Fire Island s name is not quite clear; there are many stories as to
where the Island got its name. It is thought that its Native American name was Sictem Hackey, which
translated means Land of the Secatogues , an Indian tribe in Bay Shore, New York. It was also part of
what was called the Seal Islands. Some historians have also suggested that the name Fire derived from
a misinterpretation of the Dutch word vijf ( five ) or in another version vier ( four ) referring to the

Fire Island remained in the Smith family up until 1900. Prior to 1900 there were no year round
residents on the Island with the exception of the Lighthouse keeper and a few fish factory workers and
a handful of squatters. Other than the Surf Hotel there were only a few buildings that were used during
the summer as bars and restaurants for those who would sail across the bay for a day at the beach and
the occasional clambake. The first large house ever to be built was constructed in 1795 in Cherry
Grove by Jeremiah Smith, Smith was believed to have set fires to lure ships to sand bars just off shore
and kill the crews The Surf Hotel which was located just east of the Lighthouse was an expansive
building built on 120 acres of land that David Sammis owned, or so he thought a battle over the
ownership of this land went on for years in court with Sammis winning. Sammis built the hotel in
1856 and by 1880 the hotel boasted rooms for 1500 guests. The Surf was host to many politically
connected players in government be it local, city, state, and some federal, as well as the well off from
the region. The Southside Rail Road soon to be known as the Long Island Rail Road came to Babylon
in 1867 and the town was dubbed the gateway to Fire Island, which has since been bestowed on the
town of Bay Shore. The guests of the hotel would take a stage coach for the four mile journey to the
Bay Shore docks. It is assumed by a

Advantages Of Swarm Robotics
Advances in Swarm Robotics and the Stability of a Swarm
INTRODUCTION
Swarm robotics is the new approach to the coordination of multi robot systems that consists of many
relatively smaller robots. The inspiration of this is the social behaviour of many animals and insects
like ants, geese etc. the terms Swarm Intelligence refers to the collective behaviour that is the outcome
of the work of the smaller individuals, each acting autonomously. Swarm intelligence is a property of
systems of non intelligent exhibiting a collectively intelligent behaviour.
Since the 1980 s, swarm robotics has become a major area of research. As new solution approaches
are being developed and validated, it is often possible to realize the advantages of swarm robotic
systems.
In a paper by Dudek et al in 1993, the research on swarm robotics was classified into five areas which
are swarm size, communication range, communication topology, communication bandwidth, swarm re
configurability and swarm unit processing ability. In another paper by Cao et al, the survey of
cooperative robotics was presented in a hierarchical way. This publication was also split onto five
main parts: group architecture, resource conflicts, origins of cooperation, learning and geometric
problems.
In a paper by Hiroshi et al the stability of a swarm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social insects have the best examples of the best self organized behaviour. For example, ants and bees
are not as powerful alone as they are with their colony or hive respectively. By means of local and
limited communication, they are able to accomplish impressive behavioural feats: maintaining the
health of the colony, caring for their young, responding to invasion and so on. Ants leave a chemical
substance, pheromone, behind to help guide other ants at a later point in time. Thomas et al were
inspired from ants and they made a swarm which would search, retrieve, return, deposit and rest an

the character of the meme when he says girls still think we re coming over to just chill has another
connotation. He probably is thinking that he wants more than chill and his thoughts is related to have

The Canadian Bar Association Was An Appropriate Intervener
As an intervener, I represent an outside agency who does not have direct and substantial interest in the
case at hand, but has a definite interest and perspectives that are essential to the case at bar. For the
respondent s, the Canadian Bar Association was an appropriate intervener for two reasons: the CBA
had a strong interest in the mandatory minimums within the impugned legislation and the perspective
of implementing an exemption would act as a good alternative to amending the legislation in case the
judiciary did not see good enough reason to dismiss the appeal. I will present an explanation for why
the CBA argued for an alternative to the mandatory minimum, how it relates to the submissions of the
respondents, and the reasoning behind the specific exemption clause submitted. Reasoning For
Arguing An Alternative to the Mandatory Minimum The Canadian Bar Association submitted to the
USCC that a s.1 and s.12 Charter analyses of the mandatory minimum penalty must include the
consideration of reasonable alternatives. S.1 and s.12 s Charter analyses are also relevant to the
arguments presented by my colleagues to better enforce their submissions about the s.12 Charter
violation and why the infringement cannot be saved by s.1 of the Charter. Section 12 Charter analysis
and relating to R v. Nur The CBA s submission regarding the criteria Lamer J. was used to bring up
another reason as to why there was a s.12 Charter violation. This added to the argument made my

that nurses provide every shift; however, it is not always easy to define. Katherine Kolcaba s Comfort
Theory will be used. Walker and Avant s method for concept analysis will be used. The first step is to
select a concept, which is comfort. The next step is determining the purpose of the analysis. The
purpose is to define what comfort means and what comfort measures are and how they are used in
nursing. The third step is to identify the uses of the concept of comfort. This includes definitions of

A variety of definitions and meanings evolved about comfort with the term being related to both the
patient and family. The first research study was a study on the experiences of family members being
present during resuscitation efforts in the emergency room after a trauma. Some of the benefits of a
family member being present are: the family feeling empowered and supportive, maintaining family
patient relationships, closure in a life shared and fostering the grief process (Leske, McAndrew, amp;
Brasel, 2013). Data was collected over two years in a level one trauma center with trauma patients that
had one family member present and were admitted to the surgical intensive care unit after
resuscitation. The family member was interviewed two days later for an average of ten to thirty
minutes in a quiet room away from the patient. The sample size of the study was twenty eight and the
majority of the sample was female. The results showed that the majority of family members that were
present felt that there role was to be supportive and protect the patient during the trauma. They felt
that being present was comforting to them and the patient, regardless of the outcome. Another
common theme was that the family felt comforted knowing that everything possible was done for their
family member. This study was limited due to the small sample size. Although the conclusions are
valid, more research with a

Benefits Of Supply Induced Demand
The graph below is an illustration of Reinhardt fee test that argues that supply induced demand is
identified when despite an increase in supply (S1 to S2), demand increases sufficiently (D1 to D3)
cause price rise (P1 to P3). Had there been no supply induced demand, an increase in supply would
have resulted in lowering of price (P1 to P2). As can be predicted, not only does this method raise
costs and threatens long term sustainability of the healthcare system, it discourages the efficiencies of
integrated care. Any referral to another health professional equates to loss of income for the doctors
and reduces the quality of healthcare. As figure 1 shows, despite having one of the highest healthcare
expenditures per capita, Canada ranks 10th out of 11 developed countries in terms of quality of its
healthcare system. Canada being one of the largest countries in the world, faces a unique challenge of
geographic distribution of doctors. The remote and rural areas have low population density and
because the FFS mechanism relies on volume of patients that a doctor attends to, it influences their
distribution with a higher number settled in high density areas. The disadvantages of the FFS payment
model coupled with poor performance of the Canadian healthcare system compared to its global
counterparts does necessitate a call to address the payment model to reimburse doctors. Not only will
this help to improve the quality but also help contain costs and enable viability of the

Design and Production of a game that Supports the...
This assignment incudes the design and production of a game that supports the emotional and social
aspects of learning (SEAL). The game was created to meet the specific needs of children who are the
siblings of a disabled child. The relationship of the author s game and the SEAL programme will be
considered. Thereafter the way in which children acquire emotional understanding and its impact on
social development will be explored. Finally the author will explain the reasoning for the game and
how it will help to meet the unique needs of the children it was designed for.
The authors game is designed to be used in support of, and as an extension to, the Social and
Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme Good to be me element (2005), which addresses
the management of feelings, self awareness and showing empathy. The game is intended to be used
with children who have a disabled sibling. The object of the game is twofold, firstly it is for the users
to be able to recognise, name and talk about the emotions that they experience as a sibling of a
disabled child, secondly to become aware that some of their peers are in similar situations to
themselves which may help them feel less isolated. As Children develop they gain more emotional
understanding, becoming aware of their own feelings and the feelings of others. Weimer, Sallquist and
Bolnick (2012) suggest that programs and initiatives that promote children s social emotional
awareness may enhance their development of

The Rise Of The 19th Century
The 19th century was a time of great innovation and rapid industrialization. The industry of iron and
steel was generating new construction materials, while railroads were being connected across the
United States. But one of the most used resources in the world now was discovered, oil as a source of
fuel. In 1901, a gigantic geyser of oil erupted from a drilling site at Spindletop Hill, Texas. The spout
reached a height of more than 150 feet and produced close to 100,000 barrels a day. This was the most
powerful gusher ever seen before by the world. Soon a thriving oil industry formed around the oil

Last August Hours Before The Year 2000 Summary
Naomi Shihab Nye is a critically acclaimed writer whose poems focus on themes such as cultural
differences, war, family, and change, as seen in her book, You and Yours. One poem in this collection,
Last August Hours Before the Year 2000, is a free verse poem primarily concerned with the passage of
time and how we interpret it, while also making heavy use of nature imagery.
One of the major themes in Last August Hours Before the Year 2000 is the passage of time more
specifically, the difference between how we interpret it and how it actually functions on a greater
scale. Of course, the switch from 1999 and 2000 is an excellent subject to use here, since it was the
turn of the new millenium. Nye states What a drama to keep thinking the ... Show more content on

In the beginning, it is used mainly to establish the tone of the poem. Another example is contained
within the lines What better blessing than to move without hurry under trees? (line 4 5). This sentence
helps establish the easygoing, idyllic tone. In the last stanza, though, Nye transitions to using it as part
of an extended metaphor for one s life you could lay a soaker hose across your whole life and know
there was something under layers of packed summer earth and dry blown grass to moisten (lines 22
27). Although, as previously mentioned, many events lose significance over time on a greater scale,
their importance to the individual they affected will remain, and the stories they leave are not
necessarily of a small impact, and a small universal effect does not invalidate its personal effect. She
highlights all of the events, stories, and memories that make up a person s life, saying she wants to
know that the root goes deep (line 20). Documenting the stories of everyday people was actually a
major theme in You and Yours, so it makes sense that she would express a desire to see what lies
beyond one s present. These roots, after all, are valuable experiences. It may seem odd that despite the
major focus on the changing times, Nye chooses to

  • 2. Water Simulation Lab Report Introduction Water is the most abundant resource on the planet and is one that is vital to all living organisms. Plants especially depend greatly on water and contain structures in their body in order to use the water efficiently. Water relations is a research field that deals with investigating how environmental factors affect the plant s usage of the water (Bot 201L lab manual, 2016). A study was conducted to see how low water in the soil affected the uptake of water in Alfalfa leaves and if it had any effect on the plant s photosynthesis rate. (Abid et al, 2016). It was found that there was a correlation between the photosynthesis rate and the amount of water the leaves would uptake since the stomata on the alfalfa leaves would remain closed (Abid et al, 2016). Since the stomata would close more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stomata closure is a coping strategy that plants use when there is low water available in the soil which prevents cavitation in the vessels of the xylem (Huber, 2015). It is also found that stomatal closure not only helps regulate transpiration in plants that have low water availability, but it also increases its water use efficiency (Huber, 2015). Wind is also considered to be a factor that affects transpiration in plants. Another study observed the effects of stomatal distribution (such as amphistomatous leaves) in leaves of a plant in low wind environments (Foster, 1986). The experiment found that amphistomatous leaves had the greatest transpiration rate at low wind speeds while hyperstomatous leaves had a higher transpiration rate than the hypostomatous leaves (Foster, 1986). Leaves contain what is called a boundary layer that can be defined as a still layer of fluid containing gasses and liquid that surround the leaf that affects the movement of CO2 and water in the leaves depending on its thickness (Bot 201L lab manual, 2016). In this study, the effects of wind will be observed on the transpiration rate and stomatal conductance in the leaves of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Metaphors Of Characters In King Lear By William... Good my lord, You have begot me, bred me, loved me. I return those duties back as are right fit: Obey you, love you, and most honor you. Why have my sisters husbands if they say They love you all? Happy, when I shall wed, That lord whose hand must take my plight shall carry Half my love with him, half my care and duty. Sure, I shall never marry like my sisters, To love my father all. (1.1.95 103) This quote is coming from Cordelia in the first scene of the first act. Lear has just called his three daughters in and is dividing up his kingdom. The daughters are telling Lear how much they love him in order to influence the decision on dividing the kingdom. Regan and Goneril both lie and say that they love him more than words can express but Cordelia doesn t lie and tells the truth. In this quote, she says, Lear you have raised me and loved me and I m returning the favor. I love you just as I should, I obey you, I love you and I honor you. Hopefully, when I get married I will give you my husband and half of my love. This quote is showing that in King Lear, Shakespeare uses characters to represent something greater. In the story, there are a few main characters that are big metaphors one being King Lear representing madness and insanity. A second being Goneril representing greed and lastly, Gloucester used to show the metaphors of people not opening their eyes to what s actually going on. All these metaphors have an important lesson to them that can be applied into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today that has not changed, changes, people and events keep presenting themselves making a mark in history for future generations to hear, learn, and study them. One interesting topic in history is Reconstruction. To further understand Reconstruction, one needs to know what happened during this period, how it came to exist and the impact it had on African Americans. The Reconstruction era was a period of time that lasted for fourteen years. Reconstruction began in 1863, just after America had finish fighting the Civil War. The Civil War settled the constitutional crisis that were provoked by the secessions of the Confederacy as well as giving freedom to millions of slaves, more than four million to be exact, upsetting many white southerners. This freedom was obtain by the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery. In other words ended slavery. This impacted many African Americans mainly for the reason being that most had no idea on how to make a living on their own. At the time President Lincoln and Congress helped African Americans by providing them with food, clothing and leasing them land so they can have somewhere to make a living. In addition, Lincoln had more plans for Reconstruction. One of his plan consisted on bringing the seceded states back into the Union. However, before his plans were tested Lincoln was assassinated while attending a theater. Continuing with what Lincoln had left as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Is The Connection Between The Irish Potato Famine And... The Irish Potato Famine and The Holocaust in Literature Writers often use literature as a means of communicating traumatic events that occur in history, and such events are recorded by first hand accounts as well as remembered by people far removed from the situation. Two traumatic events in history that are readily found in literature are The Irish Potato Famine and The Holocaust. A literary medium that has been used quite poignantly to convey trauma is poetry and the poetry from these two historical traumatic events is not difficult to find. Some wrote poetry to maintain their sanity as they experienced the traumatic event while others wrote after the fact as an outlet for emotional pain. Some wrote in remembrance of what they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author also benefits from writing about the trauma; a need to express what has happened, is quenched. It is shown that the literature of trauma is written from the need to tell and retell the story of the traumatic experience, to make it real both to the victim and to the community...[as well as] serving both as a validation and cathartic vehicle for the traumatized author (Tal 21). The story is larger than the words of the author. His or her life has been permanently altered by trauma, and by acknowledging it in the realm of reality, readers can take part in the trauma. In both of the historical events above, a great many people faced trauma, pain, starvation, disease, and all for a reason that is difficult, if not impossible to pinpoint. There is no way to determine why either situation occurred in history, but it is possible to examine the literature more specifically the poetry written during, after, and about those surreal events. Kali Tal has researched the literature of trauma extensively and states that the literature of trauma is defined by the identity of its author [and it] holds at its center the reconstruction and recuperation of the traumatic experience (16). She believes that a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Movie Infamy Infamy: The Shocking Story of the Japanese American Internment in World War II On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Imperial Japan. Soon after the attack, hundreds of Japanese Americans were being arrested across the country. Within ten weeks President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the detention of the American Japanese. The author Richard Reeves, is a Senior Lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California. He was educated as a mechanical engineer, and he began his journalism career at the age of 23. He has fifteen publications, six films, and has received thirteen awards. The book has an image of Japanese children with the look of sorrow and a suitcase for the background of the book cover. In the center of the book there is a huge, vibrant red circle that contains the title in bold black letters which captures the viewer s eyes. The title Infamy, meaning the state of being well known for some bad quality or deed makes one s curiosity wonder why the author would title a book like this that has Japanese children on it. Richard Reeves proves to know how to inform people of American history considering all the awards, and ratings he has received for his works. Immediately after the attack many Japanese newspapers in the United States were delivering patriotic words towards America but that did not stop the hundreds of Japanese Americans being arrested. Virtual Body Circulation, Respiration, Breathing Sophia Ho A13369046 Virtual Body Circulation, Respiration, Breathing Ventilation is a process in which our body extracts oxygen from the atmosphere and releases carbon dioxide as a byproduct. Overall, this process exchanges air between our lungs and the atmosphere. According to Boyle s Law, at a constant temperature, pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to volume. Therefore, when we breathe in, the chest cavity expands, and the pressure inside the lungs becomes slightly lower than the atmospheric pressure. When the muscles relax and the volume of the chest cavity decreases, the air inside the lungs is forced out. This is the process of expiration . For normal breathing, 3% of the body s energy is used. Though coral reefs are beautiful to view, boats on top of the coral can destroy and hit the reefs. This is a big problem because coral reefs are home to millions of marine life. According to the book, Destroying the Oceans, coral reefs are home to one quarter of Earth s marine animals and plants . With that, many habits are also destroyed. Sea turtles are not only affected by pollution, but they are also affected by tourist attraction. On September 5 in Costa Rica, a group of tourists prevented sea turtles from nesting along the coastline. The sea turtles are protected by the Ostional Wildlife Refuge. Due to the high volume of tourists of that day, the refuge was unable to prevent the disaster from happening. Some tourists touched the turtles, others stood on top of the nests, and parents placed their children on top of the turtles to take photographs (L. Arias). • 11. Why Saddam Hussein Ruled Iraq Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq for almost a third of the country s existence as an independent nation. Since its beginning, Iraq was divided by ethnicity and tribal structures representing alternative socio political communities in competition with central state government. In fact, Iraq has always been a weak state defined as having just enough power and coercive force for the central government to remain in control and its viability over time depended on its ability to govern and enforce laws. The durability of tribal structures, particularly those in the sparsely populated Sunni portions of the country, made it difficult for the Iraqi government to absorb and integrate them (Crone, 1993). This process reflected the historic ebb and flow of tribal power, as well as the political durability of tribal structures able to broker allegiance for privileged influence. Powerful Sunni tribes and tribal confederations like the Jubur, Dulaym, Tayy, Khazraj, al Azza, Harb, Maghamis, Mushahadah, Luhayb, and Ubayd became accustomed to receiving significant money and autonomy, as well as privileged positions within government (Otterman, 2003). Giving them these benefits in exchange for their allegiance benefited Hussein, however it also established these tribes as power brokers within the context of post invasion Iraq, something bound to hinder the development of Iraqi democracy and nationalism. If Sunni tribes, representing a third of the Iraqi population, could choose which government to support or require exclusive privileges from their continued acquiescence, the prospect of forming an effective Iraqi democracy seemed to require strengthening the central government by weakening the tribes. However, the ongoing Iraqi insurgency, largely fueled by the same Sunni tribes, drove the United States into adopting policies the reinforced tribal power. Republicans stated that it was Congress duty ...to prohibit in the Territories those twin relics of barbarism Polygamy, and Slavery. (Republican Platform of 1856) By granting Utah statehood, the U.S. Government would be able to better enforce anti polygamy laws of the United States, such as the Morrill Anti bigamy Act , Poland Act , Edmunds Act , and the Edmunds Tucker Act , and keep a closer eye on the Mormons. Being a territory without statehood, Utah was not subject to such laws of the United States. As later exposed by the Utah War, the U.S. government was misled towards the events occurring in the Utah Territory. The U.S. could not legally enforce the laws that outlawed polygamy and unlawful cohabitation because of the territory status of Utah. (Davis) In addition to keeping a better watch on the Mormons, becoming a state would allow more and more Gentiles to settle in Utah and disrupt the overwhelming majority of Mormons. Return on Assets: Return on Assets (ROA) measures how profitably a company uses their assets by net income divided by the average total assets. Assets are either tangible or intangible items the company owns. For example, things like buildings, equipment, cash, office supplies, or accounts receivable (receiving cash from customers on services you have performed). To find the average total assets, you use the same idea as the return on equity method, but instead you add up all of the assets and average them, instead of using just one account. IBM measured ROA of 13% in 2013 and 10% in 2014. In order to know how well the company did, it s best to compare these percentages to the industry average of 1.6% to get a better idea of where they stand. In this case, IBM produces more profit for every $1, than the industry average. Even though there may have been a slight decline, IBM is still currently producing well above. Profitability Conclusion: IBM was well above the industry average for all of the profitability ratios with given industry averages. • 18. Analyzing Dante s The Divine Comedy Part 1 How does Dante use metaphors/allegories as mechanisms for articulating his vision of Christian ethos? Consider how the work is structured and how punishment is meted out and his use of contrapasso. Durante degli Alighieri, usually referred to as Dante (1265 1321), was an Italian poet, moral philosophers, and political thinker best known for his epic poem La divina commedia. Essentially, The Divine Comedy describes Dante s journey through Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise guided at first by the Roman poet Virgil, and then by Beatrice, the subject of his undying love. In many ways, though, the poem is both a literary story of a journey and a commentary about the political and moral issues of the time; Christianity, royalty, privilege, class, and most certainly the concept of sin and the Devil. Besides being a treatise on the socio political climate of the time, Dante used the concept of Hell and Satan to explain human imperfection and a way to see another organization within the temporal world. Dante parodies the Trinity in the three parts of Satan, but also paints a mythology that became truth for many, and certainly part and parcel of modern popular culture. Satan in Dante s works is quite familiar to the mModern individual: demonic, able to possess a human s free will, lizard like but able to pretend, a liar, thief of sould, and the archenemy of God and all that is good in the universe (Anderson, 2010, 365 75). The Partition onf India The Partition of India in August, 1947 was a significant event in history that accounted for the separation of one of the world s oldest civilization into two, independent nations Pakistan and India. Like many other wars in history, The Partition of India was instigated by religious, political and social conflict. This resulted in violence, discrimination and the largest human displacement in contemporary history. While the Partition was well studied, much of our understanding was focused on the political side of history, not the human side of it. This was why oral history played an important role in manifesting the complexity of a historical event. Our focus here is Maya Rani s testimony from Butalia s book, The Other Side of Silence: ... Thus, Rani s cynical view about the future of India and Pakistan was conceivably drawn from memories of witnessing horrendous fights and strife throughout her whole life (cited in Butalia, 2000, p.268). Official documents have little say about women and children of the Partition as they were viewed as a collective. Earlier reports on the abduction of women only gave the reader the statistics and brief statements that glorified community nationalism rather than the victims itself. Many failed to dwell into the individual trauma of this particular group (Menon Bhasin, 1998, p.11). Rani s testimony was significant in that not only it opened us to another outlook from a witness point of view; it also revealed that people who were not physically involved were also affected psychologically. This was also the only part in the testimony where Rani displayed sympathy and grievance. Her sensitivity and deep connection with these victims correlated with age and gender. • 30. The Canadian Bar Association Was An Appropriate Intervener As an intervener, I represent an outside agency who does not have direct and substantial interest in the case at hand, but has a definite interest and perspectives that are essential to the case at bar. For the respondent s, the Canadian Bar Association was an appropriate intervener for two reasons: the CBA had a strong interest in the mandatory minimums within the impugned legislation and the perspective of implementing an exemption would act as a good alternative to amending the legislation in case the judiciary did not see good enough reason to dismiss the appeal. I will present an explanation for why the CBA argued for an alternative to the mandatory minimum, how it relates to the submissions of the respondents, and the reasoning behind the specific exemption clause submitted. Reasoning For Arguing An Alternative to the Mandatory Minimum The Canadian Bar Association submitted to the USCC that a s.1 and s.12 Charter analyses of the mandatory minimum penalty must include the consideration of reasonable alternatives. S.1 and s.12 s Charter analyses are also relevant to the arguments presented by my colleagues to better enforce their submissions about the s.12 Charter violation and why the infringement cannot be saved by s.1 of the Charter. Section 12 Charter analysis and relating to R v. Nur The CBA s submission regarding the criteria Lamer J. was used to bring up another reason as to why there was a s.12 Charter violation. This added to the argument made my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unbecoming is a story by Jenny Downham about the unpredictable Mary Todd, Mary has Alzheimer´s and the passing of her husband causes her to need to live with her daughter Caroline who is less than thrilled to have an additional person to look after other than her two kids. Throughout the story you can see how the characters deal with the chaos of life and the shift of plans caused by Mary moving in with Caroline and her children through word choice, syntax, and formality. The diction through the story Unbecoming really sets the tone for the book. In the Beginning of the story Caroline expressed her feeling about Mary with her words to the doctor. You can see the formality many times few the bits of the letter above, she addresses Pat formally, she apologizes for past mistakes she made in the past, she uses large words, and makes it clear that she likes hearing from Pat on how the family is doing; The reason she has written so formally is to persuade Pat into letting Mary closer into the family, trying to make herself seem mature enough to be able to have some sort of relationship with her child. While reading these letters the reader will most likely be able to see from Mary s viewpoint, how she´s longing to be reunited with her daughter and how badly she wishes for ... Alexander Chamberlain Concept Analysis The concept of comfort is one that nurses provide every shift; however, it is not always easy to define. Katherine Kolcaba s Comfort Theory will be used. Walker and Avant s method for concept analysis will be used. The first step is to select a concept, which is comfort. The next step is determining the purpose of the analysis. The purpose is to define what comfort means and what comfort measures are and how they are used in nursing. The third step is to identify the uses of the concept of comfort. This includes definitions of term comfort and a literature search. The fourth step is to determine the defining attributes of comfort. This allows for insight into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A variety of definitions and meanings evolved about comfort with the term being related to both the patient and family. The first research study was a study on the experiences of family members being present during resuscitation efforts in the emergency room after a trauma. Some of the benefits of a family member being present are: the family feeling empowered and supportive, maintaining family patient relationships, closure in a life shared and fostering the grief process (Leske, McAndrew, amp; Brasel, 2013). Data was collected over two years in a level one trauma center with trauma patients that had one family member present and were admitted to the surgical intensive care unit after resuscitation. The family member was interviewed two days later for an average of ten to thirty minutes in a quiet room away from the patient. The sample size of the study was twenty eight and the majority of the sample was female. The results showed that the majority of family members that were present felt that there role was to be supportive and protect the patient during the trauma. They felt that being present was comforting to them and the patient, regardless of the outcome. Another common theme was that the family felt comforted knowing that everything possible was done for their family member. This study was limited due to the small sample size. Although the conclusions are valid, more research with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Benefits Of Supply Induced Demand The graph below is an illustration of Reinhardt fee test that argues that supply induced demand is identified when despite an increase in supply (S1 to S2), demand increases sufficiently (D1 to D3) cause price rise (P1 to P3). Had there been no supply induced demand, an increase in supply would have resulted in lowering of price (P1 to P2). As can be predicted, not only does this method raise costs and threatens long term sustainability of the healthcare system, it discourages the efficiencies of integrated care. Any referral to another health professional equates to loss of income for the doctors and reduces the quality of healthcare. As figure 1 shows, despite having one of the highest healthcare expenditures per capita, Canada ranks 10th out of 11 developed countries in terms of quality of its healthcare system. Canada being one of the largest countries in the world, faces a unique challenge of geographic distribution of doctors. The remote and rural areas have low population density and because the FFS mechanism relies on volume of patients that a doctor attends to, it influences their distribution with a higher number settled in high density areas. The disadvantages of the FFS payment model coupled with poor performance of the Canadian healthcare system compared to its global counterparts does necessitate a call to address the payment model to reimburse doctors. Not only will this help to improve the quality but also help contain costs and enable viability of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The industry of iron and steel was generating new construction materials, while railroads were being connected across the United States. But one of the most used resources in the world now was discovered, oil as a source of fuel. In 1901, a gigantic geyser of oil erupted from a drilling site at Spindletop Hill, Texas. The spout reached a height of more than 150 feet and produced close to 100,000 barrels a day. This was the most powerful gusher ever seen before by the world. However, they are extremely important for our economy, they provide the energy that fuels our world. But with great importance has to come great responsibility. The major oil companies are not exactly admirable when it comes to human rights, pollution, or general corporate responsibility. These companies violate human rights all over the world, they aren t concerned about the environment and more so then less show a lack of corporate responsibility. Of course the oil giants aren t the only ones dealing with resentment and controversy from the general public. They are however they most target and recognized for it. • 38. Last August Hours Before The Year 2000 Summary Naomi Shihab Nye is a critically acclaimed writer whose poems focus on themes such as cultural differences, war, family, and change, as seen in her book, You and Yours. One poem in this collection, Last August Hours Before the Year 2000, is a free verse poem primarily concerned with the passage of time and how we interpret it, while also making heavy use of nature imagery. One of the major themes in Last August Hours Before the Year 2000 is the passage of time more specifically, the difference between how we interpret it and how it actually functions on a greater scale. Of course, the switch from 1999 and 2000 is an excellent subject to use here, since it was the turn of the new millenium. Nye states What a drama to keep thinking the ... Another example is contained within the lines What better blessing than to move without hurry under trees? (line 4 5). This sentence helps establish the easygoing, idyllic tone. In the last stanza, though, Nye transitions to using it as part of an extended metaphor for one s life you could lay a soaker hose across your whole life and know there was something under layers of packed summer earth and dry blown grass to moisten (lines 22 27). Although, as previously mentioned, many events lose significance over time on a greater scale, their importance to the individual they affected will remain, and the stories they leave are not necessarily of a small impact, and a small universal effect does not invalidate its personal effect. She highlights all of the events, stories, and memories that make up a person s life, saying she wants to know that the root goes deep (line 20). Documenting the stories of everyday people was actually a major theme in You and Yours, so it makes sense that she would express a desire to see what lies beyond one s present. These roots, after all, are valuable experiences. It may seem odd that despite the major focus on the changing times, Nye chooses to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
