Radiation Threats Of Astronauts On A Long Journey Through...

Radiation Threats to Astronauts on a Long Journey through Space Astronauts travelling to Mars or
another distant area of interest would face numerous challenges throughout their journey, one of which
is being exposed to radiation from space. There are two types of radiation: ionizing radiation and non
ionizing radiation. [1] Non ionizing radiation is radiation that cannot cause electrons to become
detached from the atom, like visible light and radio waves. [1] This type of radiation is not dangerous
for astronauts and is commonly found on Earth. Ionizing radiation, on the other hand, has enough
energy to remove electrons from their orbits around an atom, causing a charged particle. [1] ... Show

[1] This type of radiation would be dangerous for astronauts, and it would need to be shielded against
for long distance space travel to be viable. SPE are the ejection of very energetic protons, alpha
particles and heavier particles into space; these include solar flares and coronal mass ejections. [1]
Under normal conditions, astronauts would not be concerned about this, but occasionally, very large
SPEs occur that can produce radiation with energy levels high enough to be lethal in a very short
period of time. In fact, between Apollo missions 16 and 17, one of the largest SPEs ever recorded
occurred, and it produced radiation with energy levels that would be lethal to astronauts outside the
atmosphere in under 10 hours. [1] The health risks of radiation exposure can be described as either
acute or chronic. Acute exposure is short term and the severity of symptoms ranges from nausea to
central nervous system damage and even to death in large doses. [2] Chronic exposure is usually less
intense radiation but for a longer period of time, and the health risks include developing cataracts and
an increased risk of cancer. [2] This is the most pressing issue for astronaut safety. Normally, when
exposed to the low levels of radiation we encounter every day, cells are able to mend themselves very
quickly. When we are exposed to high doses, such as astronauts would encounter in space, cells may
not be able to repair themselves and can become mutated

In fact, an expert from the L.A. Sheriff s Department who testified at the Sleepy Lagoon trial is quoted
as saying:
Let us view it from the biological basis. . . Total disregard for human life has always been universal
throughout the Americas in the human population. And this Mexican element feels a desire to kill or at
least to draw blood (Tobar, 1997). On top of the racism faced in the courtroom was the media bias
against the Mexican American population. In the process of covering events in the city, the then
Hearst owned papers did a series of articles on the pachuco gangs, depicting Mexican American
neighborhoods as being fraught with violence, places of raping and pillaging (Tobar, 1997). This was
the atmosphere of the city at the time of the Sleepy Lagoon murder in 1942, when the body of Jose
Diaz was found at a common swimming hole after a party. Because of the public outrage over
pachuco gangs, which was instigated by the media, the sheriff s department went on a sweep of the
city s barrios, rounding up and arresting over 600 young men in connection to the Sleepy Lagoon case.
Eventually 24 men were indicted for murder, and 12 were convicted (Tobar, 1997). During the trial in
early 1943, the defendants were forced to stay within a prisoners box and not

Essay on The Necessity of Selfishness
Previously, parents quickly taught their children the importance of sharing and considering others
needs before their own. They expected their offspring to submissively sacrifice incongruent desires
and wishes. Parents did not tolerate selfishness from anyone at anytime. Then came the millennials,
also called the me generation. The typical millennial, concerned only with his or her own happiness,
pursues self satisfaction relentlessly. They only reflect upon their fellow man s needs when it benefits
them. Millennials have been called lazy, selfish, and worthless by their peers. This leads one to ponder
selfishness roots, how it became such an undesirable trait and whether or not it actually impairs
society. Through Atlas Shrugged, Ayn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She simply argues that they should embrace selfishness enough to align their values and their lives.
She sates that, the most selfish of all things is the independent mind. (Rand 943)
With selfishness clearly defined, Rand uses the plot to illustrate her conviction. She begins by calling
destruction sacrifice s result. When United States citizens contentedly give control to the government,
everything falls apart. Businesses go bankrupt following corrupt laws in fairness name. People starve
and disappear. The government mistreats and abuses the public in every form; however, they refuse to
question their actions or even think. I feel as if...as if there s no people and no human language left...I
feel that someone is screaming in the middle of the streets, but people are passing by and no sound can
reach them. (Rand 406) Eddie wilders captures what happens when people willingly sacrifice
themselves because a stranger orders it without revealing why. When humanity will not use their
minds, think, analyze or even question, when they rely solely on emotion, destruction will inevitably
follow. Any refusal to accept reality, for any reason whatever, has disastrous consequences.

The Controversy Over New Airport Security Measures Essay
The country s recently heightened airport security measures
have become a source of controversy and debate across the
Nation. Due to a recent attempted act of terrorism, where a man
on an international flight to Detroit attempted to blow up the
plane using a bomb, the department of homeland security has taken
new measures to ensure national security in the form of new high
tech full body scans and pat down procedures in airports. The new
body scanning machines create images of people without their
clothing, and the new pat down procedure is generally considered
too personal. Many people feel that the new airport security
screening is an invasion of privacy. A recent poll by Zogby

terrorists will just change their methods to fit the new security
system. Bruce Schneier, a security expert, told The New York
Times If there are a hundred tactics and I protect against two
of them, I m not making you safer. If we use full body scanning,
they re going to do something else (Schwartz, The New York

On the other side of the argument, the TSA (Transportation
Security Administration)is more concerned with safety and
security, than with individual rights. They argue that adopting
a full body pat down procedure helps detect hidden and dangerous
items, including explosives (CBS New York). Full body scanners
are able to detect non metallic items as well as metallic items,
whereas metal detectors can obviously only detect metal items.
They help to make terrorist attacks more difficult. Former
homeland security secretary Michael Chertoff said in an interview

someone to conceal weapons, the fewer people who are going to be
willing or capable of concealment. (Schwartz, The New York

Florence Nightingale Contributions
Florence Nightingale was born May 12th, 1820 named after Florence, Italy, where she was born. At
just one year old Florence moved to England because her father owned Lea Hurst, a country house, in
Derbyshire and was extremely wealthy. When Florence was five years old, her mother Fanny
convinced her husband to move to Emely Park where the Nightingales would have more
entertainment. Although this made Fanny happy, Florence was miserable with the consistent guests
and chatter. She preferred to be alone with her thoughts. Growing up she was only taught the things a
good wife and mother would need to know, including; music, dance, needlework and art lessons. In
the 1800s women weren t expected to receive an education based on the core subjects, they learned
things that would help them become the best care taker they could be. Since Florence was considered
upper class, it was highly unlikely for her to ever have a job. But as Florence grew older she became
very neat and organized. She enjoyed numbers and placing data into tables. At the age of eight she
taught herself French and always did the right thing because she believed that s what god wanted.
Once Florence turned twelve her father, William Nightingale insisted on her and Parthenope, her older
sister, to be well educated. William taught his two daughters the following languages; Latin, Greek,
French, Italian, and German. Then he had them learn all about history, philosophy, ethics,
composition, the bible, and mathematics.

Color Of Christ
Ambivalence of the Sacred Religion and race is embedded deeply in culture. Christianity and the
images of Jesus had played a huge part in shaping early colonial America. The Color of Christ is a
book written by Edward J. Blum and Paul Harvey that provides a great insight on how race, religion
and power played an important role in the colonial America. Sometimes, Jesus figures were used to
defend unequal treatment given to certain racial groups, while other times it helped them to rise up
against inequality. This book explains how different ethnic groups used physical form of Jesus to their
advantage. The Color of Christ provide details on how English Colonists used Jesus as a symbol to

In the eighteenth century, Puritans disliked Quakers of Pennsylvania because they focused on inner

Shaping Colonial America Essay
Many different things affected the shaping of colonial America in the new world. Factors such as
colonialism, geography, and religion affected the way North America was formed and dictated how
other people look at colonial America. Colonialism affected America s demographic and also the ease
of forming colonies in the new world. Geography also played a roll in shaping the identity of America.
Geography affected where people settled based on the layout of rivers, ocean, and waterways. People
also settled in places where they could grow crops. Geography also attracted colonists. Finally,
religion affected the forming of colonial America. People were driven from England because of
religion. Also, religion affected where people settled down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Boston, which at that time was called Shawmut, was settled on a peninsula that jutted out into the bay.
People also settled along water for military reasons. Take for example, Jamestown, Virginia, which
was settled some 60 miles up the James River, on a peninsula. Here there was a good view up and
down the river, which made it easy to defend attacks by land or water. New Amsterdam, which is
present day New York, was another colony that settled on the waterfront for military reasons. New
Amsterdam settled on a island, which is present day Manhattan, with a good view in all directions.
This made it easy to defend. Even more colonies were settled along water in colonial America. In the
17th century, several European countries founded settlements along the St. Lawrence River. The
waterways were also a major reason why France and England originally came to North America. Two
dreams originally attracted France and England to North America; kingdoms rich with gold, and a
water route to Asia. All in all, rivers and oceans played a major role in the settling of America.
Without them, the United States would look much different today.
The ability to grow crops also helped shape the identity of America. The crops in America were able
to feed large numbers of people, which attracted colonists. (Eventually, these crops were introduced
worldwide, which was part of the reason the world s population quadrupled in the next three hundred
years.)

The Concepts Of Marketing And Marketing
Marketing deals with people s emotions and feelings, it also includes knowledge about the buyer s
psychology, his motives, attitudes, as well as influences of his family, groups of friends, and culture.
To increase advertisements persuasiveness, advertisers can use various means, such as the theory of
cognitive dissonance
The elements of the marketing process are referred to as a set of controllable tools that the firm blends
to produce the response it wants in the target market
The marketing process contains four steps. These four steps are all completed with the objective of
creating value for your target customers. Some elements of the steps are executed continuously, for
example monitoring the marketing environment. A few are done annually, that include the annual
development of a marketing communications plan. Lastly, some of the steps, if done correctly, ought
to last for decades, such as segmentation, targeting, and positioning. (According J. Hargrave, 2010)
The Elements of Marketing or Marketing mix which is famously known as the 4P s of Marketing
(stated by McCarthy in 1960)
Product, Price, Placement or Place and Promotion
Product The first of the Four Ps of marketing is product. A product may be sometimes a tangible good
or an intangible service that meets a need or desire of consumers. Whether you sell custom pallets or
wood products or provide high end accommodations, it s critical to have a definite grasp of exactly

The Inner Workings of Congress
The inter workings of Congress have been studied extensively by Richard Fenno and David R.
Mayhew. Mayhew s study of Congress took place in Washington, while Richard Fenno conducted his
research by following politicians within their congressional district. Mayhew attributes three primary
goals to congressmen getting reelected, achieving influence within Congress and making good Policy .
Fenno also attributes three basic goals, having influence inside the House than other congressmen.
Second, helping their constituents and thereby insuring their reelection, and lastly helping make good
policy. The purpose of this paper is to research a member of Congress and to make a direct connection
between his activity in Washington and his home district. The paper will answer whether the
congressmen is a delegate or trustee. Are the actions a pursuit for reelection? Are the committee
assignments a path for movement within the House or outside? What legislation has he/she sponsored
or co sponsored and does it directly reflect his/her districts political view. And finally, do major
industries and interest groups within his/she district affect the way he/she votes. Mayhew examines
the congressmen activity in Washington that is useful to engage in for the purpose of reelection. The
first activity is advertising, defined by making a conscious effort to disseminate one s name in a
positive light among constituents to gain a favorable view. They emphasize personal qualities such as:

of Richard Matheson s novel of the same name from 1954. Smith plays virologist Robert Neville, who

It tells us that technology sometimes is dangerous and vital if we cannot gain power over it. Later in
the movie, Dr. Neville takes Anna to the lab, Anna is amazed to see the zombies lying on the bed, and

There is an alternate ending which is totally different from the original one we have seen in the movie,
which amazed me a lot. In the original one, it is a pity that Dr. Neville died in the end with the self

alternate ending is that Robert finally brushes up against a zombie next to him and comes in contact
with him; he never gets that close to any of them in the movie and seeing that gives me a chill. In this
ending, it leaves me the normal human feelings, which makes Dr. Neville more like a legend.

counts of manslaughter and four criminal violations of the Life Safety Code, stemming from a fire

including fire exits. The fire was accidental, and started by an improperly disposed smoking material

Corporate Ethics and the Employee
Corporate Ethics and the Employee Introduction The WorldCom case presents two different responses
to WorldCom s financial difficulties. Betty Vinson acted unethically and illegally, was caught and was
punished for it. Cynthia Cooper acted ethically and legally, was recognized and lauded for it. While
their ethical positions might initially seem simple, the reality is complex. Likenesses of Betty Vinson
and Cynthia Cooper On the face of this situation, there are many likenesses between Vinson and
Cooper. Both were the primary breadwinners for their families. Both were born and raised in
Mississippi. Both were apparently somewhat religious, as Vinson taught Sunday School and Cooper
used the 23rd Psalm to comfort herself. Both were accountants. Both had subordinates working for
them. Both were hardworking, diligent and loyal. Both of their husbands essentially supported their
wives in doing the right thing: Vinson s husband wanted her to quit; Cooper s husband supported her
in her decision to keep digging for the financial discrepancies. Both lost weight and were otherwise
physically and mentally burdened by the situation. Without delving into the differences between these
two women and their positions in WorldCom, it would simply seem that Vinson is a rotten apple while
Cooper is a paragon of virtue. Contrasts between Betty Vinson and Cynthia Cooper and Reconciliation

Descriptive Essay For Softball
Since I was a little girl my dream was to always play the highest level of softball as possible. I wanted
to be the best pitcher there ever was. The first position I ever learned to play was also the one that
almost ended my softball career. Starting out in little league the pitcher is required to wear a batting
helmet while playing the pitching position. This is for ages normally 5 and under, at this age the girls
are still using pitching machines or coach pitch. As the older the girls get the rules change, no face
mask or helmet has to be worn while pitching. As for me I hated wearing face mask, I always had an
excuse to not wear it. Who would ve thought that it would one day save my life.
My mom and I are both as stubborn as a mule. We both want to get our own ways, and most of the
time our ways are polar opposites from one another. So therefore one of us has to give and me being

when and when not I should have to wear a face mask. My main two positions are first base and
pitcher. These two positions require fast reaction time as well does third base. This is because while
the pitcher is in her wind up the first and third basemen are creeping closer towards the batter to be
ready to field a bunt or a ground ball. This is not always the case though, sometimes when the batter is
squared up to bunt we crash towards the batter as fast as we can and countless of the times they

North Carolina University s Crime Rate And Gun Control
Most everyone remembers that horrific morning in 2007, when the Virginia Tech shootings occurred
and took the nation by surprise. Since this event, campuses around the country have taken action on
and off campus to add security and safety measures so these shootings will not happen again. But how
has East Carolina University s crime rate and gun control been since these shootings?
When comparing the gunshot crime rates of all of 13 off campus apartment complexes at East
Carolina University, there is a common correlation between the distances they are off campus, to the
rate of gunshots reported for most complexes. The farther a complex is located off campus, the higher
the gunshot crime rate is, in most cases. This information comes from the Greenville Police
Department s database of reported police calls for service of these apartments and their crime
coverage over the last four years.
When comparing the 13 off campus apartment complexes, The Bellamy and Pirate Place both have
above a two percent crime rate when it comes to gun shot incidents. The Bellamy has had the highest
rate, at 2.19 percent of crimes being reported for gunshots, which does not keep the residents at ease
who live there.
Patrick Boone, a student who lives at The Bellamy, talked about a certain incident where he said, I

Corruption Of Power In Macbeth
Power gives people the ability to control and influence. It is held and used in many ways, significant
and insignificant, for justice, mercy or desire. Because of its ability to give people what they want,
power tempts people into doing the unthinkable in order to acquire it. Power itself is uncorrupted, only
tainted and weaponised by those who hold it. In Shakespeare s Macbeth and Suzanne Collins Hunger
Games: Mocking Jay Part Two, manipulation and suggestion are shown to corrupt power and
contribute to its use in the name of evil. Through a comparison of literary devices in Macbeth and
Mockingjay Part Two , humanity s corruption of power will be explored and unveiled
In Macbeth manipulation is a tool for lady Macbeth to tempt Macbeth into doing evil to gain power.
Derogatory language in the line and live a coward in thine on esteem reveals lady Macbeth s attempt
to manipulate her husband through his own ego. Macbeth at the beginning of the play is a man who
takes pride in bravery. Through referring to him as the opposite of brave for not wanting to murder
Duncan, she is using his ego to lead him into doing what she wants. By manipulating Macbeth s ego,
she gains power over him, as well as the whole of Scotland after Duncan s murder. Using
manipulation to gain power over someone and tempt them into murder is not unique to Macbeth
In Mockingjay, President Snow manipulates Katniss into killing coin, gaining power over her
decisions through suggestion. Repetition in the line I ve been watching you, and you me emphasises
Snow s self perceived similarity to Katniss in that they were both distracted with each other while a
common enemy was in power. Snow suggesting that Katniss is powerless under somebody who is evil
causes her to seek justice against her oppressor and turn her attention away from Snow. She hadn t
thought of Coin as an enemy who should not have power until it was suggested to her. Snow did this
intentionally so that he could eliminate coin and hope to turn the attention away from himself.
suggestion as a means to manipulate others is also present in Macbeth.

Culture And The Asian Culture
Culture plays an important role in many of the addictions that people succumb to. As clinicians, it is
important for us to be aware of the implication that culture has on diagnosing addictions and treating
the addiction. In order to treat clients more effectively we should have some knowledge about specific
cultures and their relation to some compulsive behaviors or addictions. For this assignment, I decided
to explore the Asian culture in relation to gambling. Many studies have shown that the Asian culture
account for a significant population seen in casinos and the gambling world. In this paper I will
explore how cultural factors might impact specific behaviors. In addition, I will examine how a culture
may impact the treatment process in order to gain more information for future work with this
population.
Gambling his been around for hundreds of years. Gambling is the wagering of money or something of
material value on an event with uncertain outcome with the primary intent on winning additional
money or material goods. This can be seen in horse racing, card games, and many other avenues
where betting is involved. Gambling addiction is similar to a substance addiction in many ways.
Problematic gambling can involve repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop gambling,
feelings of restlessness, irritability when attempting to stop or cut down gambling habits, and the
diminished ability to resist the impulse to gamble despite serious consequences

Forboding Tone In The Chaser By John Collier
In The Chaser by John Collier, the use of a foreboding tone, suspense evoking diction, along with the
obsessive traits of the main character contribute to the theme of being careful of what you wish for.
Firstly, Collier beginning imagery of the scene develops a foreboding tone; ...as nervous as a kitten,
went up certain dark and creaky stairs in the neighborhood (Collier 1). Collier s use of imagery creates
suspense through the use of the phrase, dark and creaky stairs . The connotation of this phrase is
negative and implies that the area that Alan is traveling to is not a good place and may bring about
negative, unwanted outcomes. Collier also utilizes a simile to compare Alan to a kitten; this simile

The old man reveals to Alan the implications of the love potion; She will want nothing but solitude,
and you (Collier 3). Alan hears this news and believes it to be a dream come true. He is oblivious to
the obvious negative outcomes that could come out of this. Ultimately, Alan is using the potion to pass
his obsessive characteristics over to an unsuspecting Diana. The potion is not one for everlasting love
but instead everlasting obsession. The old man seemingly tries to warn Alan of the impact this potion
will have but he ignores the clues due to his dominant characteristics. One of the most significant
aspects is the very last scene spoken by the old man; Then customers come back...and want more
expensive things...Au revoir (Collier 5). The meaning of au revoir is goodbye until we meet again.
This demonstrates the idea that Alan will return again to buy the life cleaner potion. This potion
should rid him of the unwanted experience caused by the love potion. These warnings show directly
that the life Alan expects will not be what he gets. Alan s own character downfalls will be displayed to
him through Diana s actions. This will cause him to realize his own

Los Angeles Music in Chincano Communities
In the 1970 s when Chicanos began to revolt and fight for what they believed in, there was a lot of
violence happening. The riot in which there was one resulting death, fifty injuries, and righty arrests
demonstrates all the chaos and rioting that the Chicano community was experiencing. For many years
Chicanos were considered the silent or forgotten majority. This situation was to change dramatically in
the mid and late 1960s as an independent movement developed in response to the specific oppression
of the Chicano people, which had a dynamic and revolutionary logic of its own . Throughout this time
there was also much progress occurring for the Chicanos. They had rose from 652,879 in 1960 to
1,228,594 in 1970, an increase of almost 90 percent , Chicanos were no longer becoming the minority
but they were now becoming the majority. There was progress for the Chicano in school and in the
work field. They were no longer ignored as they were in the past years. There were more Spanish
speaking teachers and more educational programs for the Chicanos. Although the Chicano community
had advanced and was starting to receive more fair treatment, there was still a lot that needed to be
done. There were no associations for Chicanos, and they were not really represented in congress
either. In the 1960 s the advancement was noticeable and it was good for the Chicano community, but

development and discussion in this essay will include note taking/essay writing, critical thinking and
analysing questions and reflective thinking skills.
A major area for development and improvement revolves around effective note taking and essay
planning/writing. As a Higher Education student you will be required to plan and produce countless
essays in relation to the course you are studying, and a key point of reference to help with this would
come from The Guide to Learning and Study Skills for Higher Education and at Work who give the
following advice and tips: Identify the purpose of the essay and who the audience (reader) is and what
is required for both structure your work and develop your arguments/main points proof read your
work and improve language, spelling, punctuation, grammar and style review what you did and use

A Report On The Bill Of Costs
Good Morning John,
I note from your initial instructions for the above matter that there is a further sum of money that you
wish for me to include in the Bill of Costs. At this stage I am unsure as to what these costs have
resulted from but there are strict rules as to what and how we recover costs and I wanted to briefly
explain the same. If the costs have not been incurred or cannot be claimed under your retainer then
recovering them will not be possible without breaching statutory or regulatory obligations. It is
essential that the retainer is valid for all of the costs you wish to recover as without this validity you as
the solicitor will not be able to recover costs (JH Milner Son v Percy Bilton Ltd [1966] 1 WLR).
Your right to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have not informed your client and if there is no contractual right to increase rates in the retainer
then unfortunately we will be bound by what is contractually stated. The costs of the litigation have
been incurred on behalf of the Claimant, the Bill must therefore represent what the Claimant has
agreed to pay to you for your services. We cannot recover any costs that the Claimant is not liable to
pay.
Furthermore, as per the Law of Contract we cannot include costs until you have actually carried out
the work so if the costs you mention are in relation to work you are going to do then unfortunately we
cannot seek any remuneration as the matter has now settled.
____________________________________________
If your instructions refer to including costs relating to work that is not on file then we must ensure that
compliance with the Codes is maintained. If you have done the work then we can include it as it
should be able to be evidenced through the work done and we can justify this to the paying party; but
without evidence the costs will be difficult to recover if they come into dispute. The Bill needs to be
sufficiently particularised, otherwise costs could be void for inadequate information (Re Kingsley
1978).
If you are expecting me to include costs for work that has not

Socrates Vs Meno
In this writing, Meno asks Socrates if virtue can be taught or is virtue the result of practice or does
virtue come about in another way (70a). Meno believes that virtue is different for different actions
performed and it also differs in terms of the age of the individual (72a). Socrates responds by telling
me no that he does not know what qualities virtue possesses and he is ignorant to it (71b). However,
virtue should take on the same form (72c), rather than being different for different actions and age of
the person. Factors of virtue include justice and moderation (73b), and if people did not have the same
traits of virtue, then this would mean that they are not good or virtuous in the same way (73c). During
this conversation, Socrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

confusion where he cannot find any information in his mind or he cannot speak his mind in a way that
he feels is logical. Too, before the conversation with Socrates, Meno found that he was able to have
other conversations with different people other than Socrates in the past regarding what he thinks
virtue is (80a b). When Meno spoke about virtue, he felt confident in his answer for it, however,
Socrates has now made Meno feel unsure of his answer about what virtue really is (80a b). However,
Socrates responds that even when he puts others in a state of confusion, he also finds himself to be in a
state of confusion. Therefore, he must be a torpedo fish that is numb that also makes other people feel
numb (80c). Socrates is constantly determined to find an answer for an idea that does not seem to have
any doubt in the answer. Therefore, he always seems to frustrate many people who just want to state
their answer, however, Socrates in way, is determined to help educated that other person such

The Beanes family is traced back from Christopher Banes who was an immigrant from Scotland and

Racial Prejudices In Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain is often criticized as a racist text; however, it
may have helped to dismantle racial prejudices. The classic satire piece was written in the late 1800s
and follows a young boy named Huckleberry Finn on his journey down the Mississippi river. Huck
soon joins with Jim, a runaway slave, as they both flee from their unfortunate situations. When the
book was published, it was highly controversial, due to the questionable morals of Huck Finn, and the
candid portrayal of slavery. Today, Twain is often denounced for what many see as an overuse of the n
word, and a comically negative portrayal of African Americans. Many argue that Jim is depicted as a
caricature, similar to the exaggerated and offensive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

explaining, she pecks on me all de time, en treats me pooty rough... I hear ole missus tell de widder

discontentment with being a slave. He feels mistreated and wishes to be free. His choice to escape was
in part due to his love for his family, and wish to be together, but this passage reveals that he also left
due to his fear of being sold and remaining in slavery. African Americans in the media were generally
portrayed as docile and eager to work, an idea which this passage directly contradicts. When Jim

What Is The Crime Of Aggression Is International Law
What is the crime of aggression in international law
Introduction
The Rome Statute marked historic moments of consensus in international criminal law in 2002 as it
entered into force. The first permanent international criminal Court (ICC) was established with the
main aim of ending impunity, promoting judicial independency and reaffirming the position of the
United Nations Charter (UNC).
The mandate of the Court is to try individuals and to hold such persons accountable for the most
serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole, namely the crime of genocide,
war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression, when the conditions for the
exercise of the Court s jurisdiction over the latter are fulfilled.
In 1998 Rome Statute negotiation, the crime of aggression was listed among the major crimes under
the Court s jurisdiction in Article 5 of the Rome Statute but did not power the Court to use jurisdiction
over the crime thus contrasting the other crimes(genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes).
This was because the Statute did not define the crime or set out jurisdictional rules.
The Assembly of States Parties ( ASP ) created a Special Working Group on the Crime of Aggression (
the Special Working Group ), to help in addressing such issues as the crime of aggression. This was
driven by the fact that the Preparatory Commissions formed by the Rome Statute after the conclusion
of the Rome Statute of June and July 1998, had not worked

Frederick Henry Discovered Essay
Frederick Henry Discovered In A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway uses his idea of the code hero
to introduce us to an amazing character. Hemingway takes his own ideas and conveys them through
Frederic Henry. During World War I Frederic Henry proves to us that war and lost love can change a
strong and willing man. Most men are not willing to change and Frederic Henry realized that in order
for him to survive the many problems he was faced with, he would have to become a more mature
man, love and solider.
Hemingway s code hero is portrayed in most every novel that Hemingway wrote. He takes his main
character and makes him someone that is hard to change and even harder to make realize the situations
around him. His code ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a performance for Jordan (the main character in For Whom the Bell Tolls) because he felt
that since this was his job in the war, people might look on his actions for years to come. He wanted
people to remember his good performance. The code hero does not want to do anything that could
affect what his orders are. Frederic especially wanted to do everything possible in the war that he
could. He must keep himself in good health in order to do his duty and serve in the war (Hemingway,
A Farewell to Arms 63). Although Hemingway tried to portray Henry as a well established man, he
sometimes is confused and not sure of what to do. What Hemingway portrays, in fact, is a good, albeit
a disappointed and disillusioned, man trying to fulfill his various obligations (Nolan 271). He is trying
to make his relationship last since he is in love and he is also trying to take care of his duty s in the
war.
Although the story is told through first person narration, we know that Frederic is a clean shaven man
who is tall in stature and although he is not handsome, he is attractive which makes him fit into
Hemingway s code hero. He shows us that he is a strong man and you realize this by everything he has
to go through during his time of service. He is a strong man by fighting for a country that isn t even is.
By fighting for another country he is trying to discover himself and he wants from life. He is trying to
discover what he truly wants.

Impact Of Entrepreneurship On Business Management
Entrepreneurship is defined as the process of designing, launching and running a business. It typically
begins as a business idea such as starting a small business, offering a product or service. What is
unique about this venture is the possibility and level of risk involved for instance lack of funds, an
unforeseeable economic crisis or poor business decisions. Entrepreneurship is about how people
identify opportunities, evaluate whether they are viable and then decide to exploit them or not. The
decision to exploit an opportunity or not depends on several factors that the entrepreneur is
responsible for including cost versus how much the idea will generate, the market demand, and the
risks involved. An entrepreneur is thus an innovator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are created which leads to creation of wealth and stability of the economy as well as good
conditions of a prosperous society. By coming up with new and innovative ways of doing things,
national assets are activated, for instance infrastructure development. When businesses remain in the
same domain for a long time, they experience the glass ceiling effect and are unable to proceed.
Introduction of new products and technologies therefore enable the development of new markets, and
employment which in turn creates better national income in terms of taxes and government spending
(Bruce, 2005) In addition to the benefits of entrepreneurship to the economy, it also enables people to
be independent. Business people enjoy independence in that they can make their own decisions and
they are I charge of their own work. One can toy around with unconventional means of doing things
which eventually creates creativity and innovativeness. Again the entrepreneurs become part of
motivation and inspiration to others in the society. One can follow their passion, which implies
freedom unlike when one is employed and they have to follow laid down rules. The only downside to
this is that the entrepreneur is responsible for all the risks including making huge losses (Bruce, 2005).
There are many benefits of innovation to a society, but unregulated entrepreneurship may lead to
problems such as pervasive

The Essential Compound of Water on Earth
Formed by two bonded hydrogens and an oxygen atom it is the second most essential compound to
life on Earth, water. However, less than four percent of it is available for human consumption; it may
be found in a liquid state or as water vapor within the atmosphere. As society progresses in becoming
more populous and industrialized so does the demand for fresh water, thus scientists have and
continue to experiment with adding particles to clouds in order to aid in creating precipitation. In
nature, water continuously moves between the Earth and atmosphere through a process known as the
hydrologic cycle. Evaporation and transportation cause water to rise, as warm air rises it becomes
cooler and causes condensation, the droplets increase in size until the upward movement of air cannot
support it (nucleation), and thus falls to the ground. It should be noted that warm air has the ability to
hold more vapor than cold air and cloud formation occurs due to air becoming supersaturated.
Conversely, nucleation does not always occur due to the cloud not being cold enough, we are then
introduced to the process of cloud seeding (Lenschow).
The inorganic compound silver iodide (AgI) is sprayed or launched into the atmosphere as tiny
particles that attract water molecules causing them to nucleate and fall to the ground as precipitation.
Cloud seeding started it s formation when Vincent Schaefer, a self taught chemist in New York,
attempted to get artificial clouds to produce

The Political Culture Of Politics
The term politics itself has changed over many years. To ask if the evolution of political culture
changes how people participate in politics is simple. The answer is yes. To begin with, let s define
political culture; Authors define the term political culture as the particular distribution of patterns of
orientation towards political objects among the members of a nation (Almond and Verba 1963: 13
cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Now let s define culture; the term culture covers a broad
set of phenomena. It includes traditions, habits, and patterns of behaviour shaped by a society s
prevailing beliefs, norms and values (Nolan and Lenski, 1999 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014
p.285). Taking this into account, examples of culture could be how to play hopscotch in a playground
or following the rules to a game of tennis or badminton. To address the question, this essay will firstly
assess how any capable individual is able to participate in politics and secondly if the growth of
political culture has increased or decreased participation.
A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many options.
One option can be by joining a political party which interests them and that has a good manifesto with
policies that they would like to see take place and therefore taking part in elections and voting. A
second option can be by being part of a pressure group for example, one that represents those against

Edgar Allan Poe s life experiences had a adult impact on the topics and themes of his writing. One of
the most common themes in Edgar Allen Poe s poems and clerestory relating to death are The Black
Cat, The Masque of the Red Death, Cast of Amontillado, Annabel Lee and The Raven . Prophet!
aforesaid I, thing of evil prophet still, if bird or devil! This in my opinion relates to how he did not
know many stuff. Montresor defect revenge and says, nemo me impune lacessit. In other words, No
one attack me without punishment. As they traverse along a hallway to the keep, Montresor touch at
his plot. Edgar was an unusual omi to say the least, but he wrote about the most deadly scary things
that are in the back of our minds when we walk into a dark room or turn a corner in that erie basement
many of us have, and in that way he stays with us. They are some examples that empahsis this. An
example of the influence of alcohol is The Black Cat. Here, Poe writes about committing gruesome
acts while he is intoxicated. Poe had a cottage in Fordham New York; a nearby university was
believed to be the source of the ringing bells. Like life to death, it all ends up the same. Edgar Allan
Poe lived a very heartbroken, dejected, short life get by today s standards. One theme that Edgar wrote

Difference Between Reductionist Positions And The Holist...
This paradox resulted into two positions to explain the parts whole relation in this paradox. The two
positions is the Reductionist Position and the Holist Position. The Reductionist Position states that the
whole is the sum of its parts and the Holist Position states that the whole is greater than or different
from the sum of its parts. In the example of the basketball blunder the whole is represented as the total
average and the parts is represented by the individual average of the 2 point and 3 point shots of
Jordan and Chamberlain. Then the Reductionist Position, in terms of the basketball blunder, states that
the total average is the sum of Jordan s and Chamberlain s individual point averages. then the Holist
Position states, in terms

Italian Lunch In School
Do you like doing well in school and having the necessary energy to get through the eight hour school
days? Do you like being able to go to class in the afternoon without your stomach growling, and being
able to stay focused? Well if you like those things, you better have some money!
A study by the New York Times came out in February of 2015, saying that just over half of all
students attending public schools in the United States are now eligable for free or reduced priced
lunches . What people don t often tell you, is what comes in this free or reduced priced lunch .
In this comparison above done by buzzfeed, they compare the US lunch in school to that of an Italian
lunch in school. But, what the US lunch actually shows is a lunch for

Martin Luther King I Have A Dream Speech
The dreadful day of April 4, 1968 was not only when many cities grieved the loss of one of the most
influential Americans, but also the day that the Civil Rights Movement suffered a major setback. In
his 39 years of life, Martin Luther King Jr transformed into a powerful activist for the Civil Rights
Movement. He spoke passionately as an advocate for African American civil rights and he
continuously advanced the Civil Rights Movement. One of the most prominent events that allowed the
Movement to rise and conquer was his delivery of the I Have a Dream speech on August 28, 1963
which affected more than half the country (Gregory, 43). The Civil Rights Movement had many other
activists, but King s work was so influential that he was seen as the face of the Movement. In 1963
Time magazine named King man of the year and then a year later at 35 years old he was the youngest
to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize where he then donated the about $54,000 reward to different civil
rights organizations (Manheimer, 67). He believed that the best way to achieve the goal of civil rights
was through peaceful protest and non violence which many people either resented or admired. The life
of this famous leader was cut short on the complicated day of April 4, 1968. King was shot and
murdered on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, located in Memphis, Tennessee, while talking with his
colleagues in the parking lot below him (Malito). The bullet had blown away part of his neck and jaw
and when he was

Should Organizations Fear Websites Where Consumers Post...
Should organizations fear websites where consumers post negative or uncomplimentary messages
about products or services?
I would not use the word fear; however, organizations and consumers should be cognizant of such
websites and the impact that the sites can have on any type of business.
Give an example of a corporate website where negative and/or uncomplimentary messages have been
posted.
The importance of relying on scholarly peer reviewed articles and journals become clearer with each
passing day; it is difficult to discern fact from fiction.
According to reports, Amy s Baking Company (ABC) displayed a classic meltdown after finding itself
the topic of ridicule following an episode of a renowned television show titled Gordon Ramsay s
Kitchen Nightmares (SEJ, 2014). Tepper (2013) shared with readers that during the show, the owners
of ABC were observed withholding tips from employees and initiating a disturbance with a customer
who inquired about his order after an hour s wait. As result of the owners behavior, the host of Kitchen
Nightmares walked off the show which consequently led to bad reviews for the company and negative
feedback from the public.
To add insult to injury, the owners opted to use their Facebook account to dispute comments which
entailed statements that were considered rather disparaging remarks (SEJ, 2014). The owners of ABC
claimed that the comments posted on the Facebook page were made by someone who had apparently
hacked into their

Good morning, I am honored to be here today on this occasion to learn about healthy lifestyles
awareness. Similarly you should also be honored to learn about these issues and stay life longer in this
wonderful world. Before I start my speech, let me tell you how serious the chronic diseases happen in
your surroundings. According to Health Ministry recently revealed there are around 2.6million
Malaysians who suffer from diabetes which makes 1 in 5 people have diabetes. While, more than 50%

Malaysia. According Consultant cardiologist and Malaysian Heart Foundation director Datuk Dr Khoo

With hobbies, we can even find common grounds with our friends to share and enjoy together.
Furthermore, we must have a healthy social life. We can improve our social life by having friends to
talk to spend our time with. If we face any problems, we can have a friend to lean on. Get someone to
talk to when you are under a lot stress and surely you can relieve your pressure that way more
effectively than other way.
Before I ended my speech, I am here to make apologize if I have any mistake and rude is my speech.
Health is the most valuable asset in our life. Even though, the advancement of medical science and
technology still has not been able to provide a solution to modern diseases. In fact, the numbers are
becoming more shocking. So, what are you waiting for? Let, start

  • 2. Radiation Threats Of Astronauts On A Long Journey Through... Samantha Stickles ESS102 Section AD Due: 10/23/15 Radiation Threats to Astronauts on a Long Journey through Space Astronauts travelling to Mars or another distant area of interest would face numerous challenges throughout their journey, one of which is being exposed to radiation from space. There are two types of radiation: ionizing radiation and non ionizing radiation. [1] Non ionizing radiation is radiation that cannot cause electrons to become detached from the atom, like visible light and radio waves. [1] This type of radiation is not dangerous for astronauts and is commonly found on Earth. Ionizing radiation, on the other hand, has enough energy to remove electrons from their orbits around an atom, causing a charged particle. [1] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [1] This type of radiation would be dangerous for astronauts, and it would need to be shielded against for long distance space travel to be viable. SPE are the ejection of very energetic protons, alpha particles and heavier particles into space; these include solar flares and coronal mass ejections. [1] Under normal conditions, astronauts would not be concerned about this, but occasionally, very large SPEs occur that can produce radiation with energy levels high enough to be lethal in a very short period of time. In fact, between Apollo missions 16 and 17, one of the largest SPEs ever recorded occurred, and it produced radiation with energy levels that would be lethal to astronauts outside the atmosphere in under 10 hours. [1] The health risks of radiation exposure can be described as either acute or chronic. Acute exposure is short term and the severity of symptoms ranges from nausea to central nervous system damage and even to death in large doses. [2] Chronic exposure is usually less intense radiation but for a longer period of time, and the health risks include developing cataracts and an increased risk of cancer. [2] This is the most pressing issue for astronaut safety. Normally, when exposed to the low levels of radiation we encounter every day, cells are able to mend themselves very quickly. When we are exposed to high doses, such as astronauts would encounter in space, cells may not be able to repair themselves and can become mutated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On top of the racism faced in the courtroom was the media bias against the Mexican American population. In the process of covering events in the city, the then Hearst owned papers did a series of articles on the pachuco gangs, depicting Mexican American neighborhoods as being fraught with violence, places of raping and pillaging (Tobar, 1997). This was the atmosphere of the city at the time of the Sleepy Lagoon murder in 1942, when the body of Jose Diaz was found at a common swimming hole after a party. Because of the public outrage over pachuco gangs, which was instigated by the media, the sheriff s department went on a sweep of the city s barrios, rounding up and arresting over 600 young men in connection to the Sleepy Lagoon case. • 18. Corruption Of Power In Macbeth Power gives people the ability to control and influence. It is held and used in many ways, significant and insignificant, for justice, mercy or desire. Because of its ability to give people what they want, power tempts people into doing the unthinkable in order to acquire it. Power itself is uncorrupted, only tainted and weaponised by those who hold it. In Shakespeare s Macbeth and Suzanne Collins Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part Two, manipulation and suggestion are shown to corrupt power and contribute to its use in the name of evil. Through a comparison of literary devices in Macbeth and Mockingjay Part Two , humanity s corruption of power will be explored and unveiled In Macbeth manipulation is a tool for lady Macbeth to tempt Macbeth into doing evil to gain power. Derogatory language in the line and live a coward in thine on esteem reveals lady Macbeth s attempt to manipulate her husband through his own ego. Macbeth at the beginning of the play is a man who takes pride in bravery. Through referring to him as the opposite of brave for not wanting to murder Duncan, she is using his ego to lead him into doing what she wants. By manipulating Macbeth s ego, she gains power over him, as well as the whole of Scotland after Duncan s murder. Using manipulation to gain power over someone and tempt them into murder is not unique to Macbeth In Mockingjay, President Snow manipulates Katniss into killing coin, gaining power over her decisions through suggestion. Repetition in the line I ve been watching you, and you me emphasises Snow s self perceived similarity to Katniss in that they were both distracted with each other while a common enemy was in power. Snow suggesting that Katniss is powerless under somebody who is evil causes her to seek justice against her oppressor and turn her attention away from Snow. She hadn t thought of Coin as an enemy who should not have power until it was suggested to her. Meno believes that virtue is different for different actions performed and it also differs in terms of the age of the individual (72a). Socrates responds by telling me no that he does not know what qualities virtue possesses and he is ignorant to it (71b). However, virtue should take on the same form (72c), rather than being different for different actions and age of the person. Factors of virtue include justice and moderation (73b), and if people did not have the same traits of virtue, then this would mean that they are not good or virtuous in the same way (73c). • 28. Racial Prejudices In Huckleberry Finn The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain is often criticized as a racist text; however, it may have helped to dismantle racial prejudices. The classic satire piece was written in the late 1800s and follows a young boy named Huckleberry Finn on his journey down the Mississippi river. Huck soon joins with Jim, a runaway slave, as they both flee from their unfortunate situations. When the book was published, it was highly controversial, due to the questionable morals of Huck Finn, and the candid portrayal of slavery. Today, Twain is often denounced for what many see as an overuse of the n word, and a comically negative portrayal of African Americans. • 29. What Is The Crime Of Aggression Is International Law What is the crime of aggression in international law Introduction The Rome Statute marked historic moments of consensus in international criminal law in 2002 as it entered into force. The first permanent international criminal Court (ICC) was established with the main aim of ending impunity, promoting judicial independency and reaffirming the position of the United Nations Charter (UNC). The mandate of the Court is to try individuals and to hold such persons accountable for the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole, namely the crime of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the crime of aggression, when the conditions for the exercise of the Court s jurisdiction over the latter are fulfilled. In 1998 Rome Statute negotiation, the crime of aggression was listed among the major crimes under the Court s jurisdiction in Article 5 of the Rome Statute but did not power the Court to use jurisdiction over the crime thus contrasting the other crimes(genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes). This was because the Statute did not define the crime or set out jurisdictional rules. The Assembly of States Parties ( ASP ) created a Special Working Group on the Crime of Aggression ( the Special Working Group ), to help in addressing such issues as the crime of aggression. This was driven by the fact that the Preparatory Commissions formed by the Rome Statute after the conclusion of the Rome Statute of June and July 1998, had not worked ... • 34. The Essential Compound of Water on Earth Formed by two bonded hydrogens and an oxygen atom it is the second most essential compound to life on Earth, water. However, less than four percent of it is available for human consumption; it may be found in a liquid state or as water vapor within the atmosphere. As society progresses in becoming more populous and industrialized so does the demand for fresh water, thus scientists have and continue to experiment with adding particles to clouds in order to aid in creating precipitation. In nature, water continuously moves between the Earth and atmosphere through a process known as the hydrologic cycle. Evaporation and transportation cause water to rise, as warm air rises it becomes cooler and causes condensation, the droplets increase in size until the upward movement of air cannot support it (nucleation), and thus falls to the ground. It should be noted that warm air has the ability to hold more vapor than cold air and cloud formation occurs due to air becoming supersaturated. Conversely, nucleation does not always occur due to the cloud not being cold enough, we are then introduced to the process of cloud seeding (Lenschow). The inorganic compound silver iodide (AgI) is sprayed or launched into the atmosphere as tiny particles that attract water molecules causing them to nucleate and fall to the ground as precipitation. Cloud seeding started it s formation when Vincent Schaefer, a self taught chemist in New York, attempted to get artificial clouds to produce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The answer is yes. To begin with, let s define political culture; Authors define the term political culture as the particular distribution of patterns of orientation towards political objects among the members of a nation (Almond and Verba 1963: 13 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Now let s define culture; the term culture covers a broad set of phenomena. It includes traditions, habits, and patterns of behaviour shaped by a society s prevailing beliefs, norms and values (Nolan and Lenski, 1999 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Taking this into account, examples of culture could be how to play hopscotch in a playground or following the rules to a game of tennis or badminton. To address the question, this essay will firstly assess how any capable individual is able to participate in politics and secondly if the growth of political culture has increased or decreased participation. A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many options. One option can be by joining a political party which interests them and that has a good manifesto with policies that they would like to see take place and therefore taking part in elections and voting. In his 39 years of life, Martin Luther King Jr transformed into a powerful activist for the Civil Rights Movement. He spoke passionately as an advocate for African American civil rights and he continuously advanced the Civil Rights Movement. One of the most prominent events that allowed the Movement to rise and conquer was his delivery of the I Have a Dream speech on August 28, 1963 which affected more than half the country (Gregory, 43). The Civil Rights Movement had many other activists, but King s work was so influential that he was seen as the face of the Movement. In 1963 Time magazine named King man of the year and then a year later at 35 years old he was the youngest to ever win a Nobel Peace Prize where he then donated the about $54,000 reward to different civil rights organizations (Manheimer, 67). King was shot and murdered on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, located in Memphis, Tennessee, while talking with his colleagues in the parking lot below him (Malito). The bullet had blown away part of his neck and jaw and when he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to reports, Amy s Baking Company (ABC) displayed a classic meltdown after finding itself the topic of ridicule following an episode of a renowned television show titled Gordon Ramsay s Kitchen Nightmares (SEJ, 2014). Tepper (2013) shared with readers that during the show, the owners of ABC were observed withholding tips from employees and initiating a disturbance with a customer who inquired about his order after an hour s wait. As result of the owners behavior, the host of Kitchen Nightmares walked off the show which consequently led to bad reviews for the company and negative feedback from the public. To add insult to injury, the owners opted to use their Facebook account to dispute comments which entailed statements that were considered rather disparaging remarks (SEJ, 2014). The owners of ABC claimed that the comments posted on the Facebook page were made by someone who had apparently hacked into their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
