INTRODUCTION
Patricia Dunn, placed number 17 on FORBES list of most powerful women, landed herself four felony
counts by making unethically chivalrous decisions.
Patricia Dunn, once a chairwoman on the board of Hewlett Packard, a position she held from February
2005 until September 2006. Her tenure was cut short on October 4, 2006 as she was charged with four
felony counts for her role in a spying scandal. Five months later on March 14, 2007, California
Supreme Court judge Ray Cunningham dropped criminal charges against her in the interest of justice
on all four felony counts: fraudulent use of wire, radio or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, her system of ethics judged by its consequences is neither utilitarianism nor that of
deontological reasoning. Patty Dunn should have approached the board from the get go. By not doing
this, she followed a questionable trail of illegal activity
Her utopian dreams of maintaining discretion of HP s goals and even her in house attempt at corralling
the leaker are seemingly understandable. However her tact and failure to use common ethical business
practices will be discussed in detail here.
She had to have at least had an inkling that what she was about to embark upon was sensitive. Not
only sensitive but dangerous! Dangerous in that cautions should always preface any actions involving
personal information. Patricia Dunn is too smart to successfully play dumb.
Utilitarianism reasoning does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or
coercion. (Issues in Ethics V2 N1 Winter 1989) Patricia Dunn did not use utilitarianism aspects of
information privacy for the employer. Instead it appears they were used more so as her personal
vendetta. Patricia Dunn s case seems to be believable until Felony count #1, overt act #9. Which reads,

Pensacola Harbor
The naval side of the civil war in Florida all started with the Pensacola harbor. There was a navy yard
and three forts guarding the harbor, including Fort Barrancas, Fort McRee, and Fort Pickins. On
January 8, 1861, Florida Governor Madison S. Perry authorized Colonel Chase to seizing the forts at
Pensacola. On the Fort Barrancas, 1st Lieutenant Adam J. Slemmer was an officer from Montgomery
County, Pennsylvania during the Seminole Wars and the American Civil War. He heard rumors that
the Florida Militia was planning on seizing the Navy Yard, the barracks and the forts in the Pensacola
areas. With Slemmer not wanting to enter the union he moved gunpowder and other materials to Fort
Pickens, which he thought, would be the safest port to fight from.
On January 10, 1861, Florida seceded from the U.S. being the third state to secede. On January 15 and
January 18 Slemmer refused demands for surrender from Colonel William Henry Chase who designed
and constructed Fort Pickens. Fort Pickens was thought to be the first war of the civil war but it took a
long time for it to happen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gallows Humor In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
Gallows humor is defined as a type of humor that makes fun of a life threatening, disastrous, or
terrifying situation (Merriam Webster n.d.). One can certainly understand why gallows humor might
be deemed as insensitive, inconsiderate, and, in some cases, unamusing. In fact, to make a jest of a
dire or hopeless situation is, in most cultures, seen as a sign of someone s bad character and their
tasteless sense of humor.
Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal exemplifies the cruelty and horridness of this so called humor.
Published in 1779, A Modest Proposal proffers the satirical solution to Ireland s growing population of
families in poverty. Its tongue in cheek suggestion is for poor mothers to sell their one year old
children for their meat to the wealthy. Therefore, both parties benefit; the lower class is paid a
handsome amount per pound of their baby, and the higher class is supplied the delicacy of baby flesh.
While all readers can agree Jonathan Swift s recommendation is not meant to be taken seriously, there
is a separation in opinion when asking whether Swift s satire is too absurd and offensive or is effective
in making his point. Through intense, deep consideration, extensive research, and experts opinions,
most readers can discern that Dr. Swift s satire is the former.
Thus, Jonathan Swift s application of satire is simply too absurd and offensive for most readers. There
are three main reasons for this: it makes a joke of a serious situation,

Science Vs Religion Research Paper
One of the most controversial discussions in human history is between the topics of science and
religion. This discussion spans most of human history with far reaching effects. It has even stretched
into our modern times, leaching into schools and politics. But before one can decide which side to
take, and what views to align with, they require knowledge. Society must understand the similarities
and differences between science and religion.
Science differs immensely from religion in a variety of ways. Science is defined as systematic
knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.

understand the universe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Torah was given to us by God, Who is omniscient. Since He knows all that ever is, was, or will
be, it is inconceivable that the Torah wouldn t account for the circumstances of future generations. The
laws of the Torah do not get outdated and discarded and God certainly won t retract the Torah and
replace it with another book. (Numbers 23:19 says that God is not like a human being who might
change his mind.) (Abramowitz) Despite many different religions assertions that they already have
complete and perfect guides to life and understanding the universe, they have been known to change.
One such example is Mormonism. The mormon faith has been known to evolve throughout history in
accordance with changing eras and their social issues. For example In 1890, President Wilford
Woodruff issued the Manifesto, which led to the end of plural marriage in the Church. (www.lds.org)
previously polygamy was regularly practiced in mormon culture. However persecution drove the
Mormons across the country till they were forced to change their standing. Adaptation to social
change is shown often throughout mormon history changing their stance on racism. Brigham Young,
whom BYU was named after made this statement about people of dark

Throughout the times of man s inhabitance on this planet, mankind has experimented with
innumerable methods of trade and economics. Many believe that human restrictions on trade and a
person s desire for objects can create a utopian way of economic life. The following will examine two
articles: The Market Didn t Do It and A Good Conversation and the Marketplace. The goal of the
following is to determine whether each is true and why based not only on the economic system of the
world today, but also upon reason.
Some think that all of the bad things in the world are as they are today due to the freedom of economic
trade. An example of this is pollution. Environmental groups believe that because ... Show more

As a conversation reveals more about a person, their beliefs, desires, etc., so does the free market
economy reveal the characteristics and individuality of a particular region, province, or country. Not
everyone appreciated the free market. Yet there are striking similarities between the marketplace and a
good conversation, and, if anything, the benefits from the communication, cooperation, and
compromise of the marketplace are even greater than those from a good conversation. From the start,
this article makes similar a good conversation and the free market, in that both benefit from the
cooperation and communication. Communication for example needs to be honest. If you are not
telling the truth to whomever you are speaking with, then what good is that conversation? It gets you

The Myths Of College Majors
Myths of College Majors College students have the hardest time paying off their student loans, but
why? Well, most students usually pick their major based on their talents and their interests.(Source,
Time) This idea sounds like a smart move, but in fact it is putting students in a very difficult situation.
Since most majors end up making considerably less money in their first year out of college, it is
becoming more and more difficult for majors in the humanities and arts to pay off their student loans.
When I chose my major, criminal justice, I did pick it because I had been involved with a police
explorer program and participated in a criminal justice internship in high school. I did some research
and found that by achieving a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I know from researching my career path that the salary I will receive because of my degree will be
ample to pay off my loans within a couple of years. Most students end up in debt because they don t
take the time to look ahead to the future. For some it is a $80,000 life experience which leaves a future
graduate with debt.
For an example, my stepfather is a general manager for a car dealership. We had a conversation about
college graduates who apply at his dealership for a salesperson job. These applicants have zero
experience and when you look at their college major, it has nothing to do with sales. He had one
individual who went to Anderson College. He was a music history major and during his interview he
said that he needed the job to pay for his college loan payments. He was over $100,000 in debt. I
found this shocking that someone would be that far in debt and they are not even using their degree.
This is a common issue with many graduates. A college degree is no guarantee of economic success,
but through a graduate s choice of their major, they can take at least some steps toward boosting their
odds. (Source, IM) I interviewed ten family and friends who attended a college or university. Five out
of ten people who went to college did not end up graduating. All five who did not graduate did not
have scholarships or grants and had to pay for their tuition. Three of those five said it took over

Algae Implementation Lab
Abstract:
This lab had various objectives, but they were all similar in that, the main purpose was to understand
the effects of extra nutrients in water and how they affect the environment around them. Also another
overarching objective of this experiment was to see how a spectrophotometer could be used as an
indirect way to see if algae are present in various types of matter at 450 nm absorbance. Another
purpose of this experiment was to find out that acidic rain is a type of a pollutant that leads to a
decrease in aquatic organisms. The hypothesis that was thought of during the initial understanding of
the experiment was that as the amount or concentration of nitrogen and phosphorous increases so will
the growth of algal. The results that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was supported, and the table number 1 shows the gradual increase in absorbance value for most
of the group s test tubes, when comparing the low and high values in nutrients. This shows that the
higher values correspond with more algae, and that goes true with what the hypothesis was. Due to the
values going up; that meant to us that the absorbance was higher and that meant there were change in
the properties of the sample. Even though there was room to get more precise values there were many
problems that could have cause the deviance in the expected results such as not clearing out the test
tubes well, or leaving them sitting for too long, this experiment was a great learning experience and
educating myself about the effects of pollution on algae growth was a great topic. The absorbance
level did increase the concentration of various nutrients increased it didn t increase as was expected
but nevertheless it did increase. Basically there were some readings that were obtained that didn t go
with what the majority of what the class had, which could have been the result of human error that
was present during the course of the experiment. There are some changes that could be made into how
the experiment was conducted. The cuvettes could have been cleaned better by using a disinfectant
and wiping off the excess with a tissue paper that could been done before the sample from the test
tubes were poured into the cuvettes. The time that the cuvettes were out before having their
absorbance values collected could be lessen to ensure the most accurate readings possible. From
participating in such an experiment, it is easier to recognize the problems that arise from the presence
of acidic rain. As it was mentioned earlier acidic rain leaves the environment less and less suitable for
the organisms that live there

Silicon Based PV Cells
CHAPTER 2 SILICON BASED PV CELLS 2 2.1 Doping Procedure of Silicon based PV Cells A
Silicon solar PV Cell is a device which is made up of semiconductor materials that produce electricity
when exposed to light energy. [1] The doping process of a Silicon based PV Cell works by the
photovoltaic material converting the light energy, photons, it absorbs into electrical energy. [1] Light
(Photon) Energy  Electrical Energy Using a doping process, a p n junction is created in silicon as
shown below: From the image above the photons, light energy, prompt the electrons flowing from the
n junction to the p junction creating an electric current flow. [1] This is highlighted below: The
process of doping involves the addition of atoms with different number of electrons so it creates an
unbalanced number of electrons on the material that is being doped, in this case Silicon. [1] The
material being doped, in this case Silicon will carry a negative charge if the base material absorbs
excessive electrons. However, if the base material, Silicon, absorbs to little electrons then the material
will carry a positive charge. [1] To achieve a doped material, using Silicon then there are 2 methods:
Ion implantation of diffusion. These methods are carried out using Boron (B) to form a positively
charged doped material and Arsenide (As) or Phosphorus (P) to form a negatively charged doped
material. This is shown below: Ion Implantation can be achieved at room temperature for

On the other side of the argument I have made is are people that might think soccer is not the most

A Streetcar Named Desire Analysis Essay
On Saturday, May 20th, I attended a production of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire.
This production, put on by the Scottish Ballet at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, offered a simmering story
of sexuality and betrayal. Prior to my viewing of the performance, I sat in on the pre lecture where I
was enlightened on the background of the story and choreographer. A Streetcar Named Desire is one
of the few works to be performed as a play, a movie, and a dance production. The choreographer of
this production, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, was discussed as being an accomplished artist whose love of
jazz and hip hop influenced her creative decisions. The lecturer also touched upon how Williams life
affected the play.
The character Stanley was said to be modelled on his own father. The story of Streetcar is also very
much affected by the time in which it is set. Because the story takes place two years following the end
of World War II, there is a sense of newfound modernity and resistance to the old ways. Immediately
following the pre lecture, I settled into my seat and noticed how anticipatory the audience seemed. All
guests were obviously excited to attend and experience the production. The lights dimmed and we
were brought into the stately southern home where Blanche Dubois story begins. She is garbed in all
white and warm, bright lights that gave us a sense of her innocence. We witness her romance and
marriage to Alan and his affair with a man who he met at his wedding.

Deciding Between Olympics or Baseball for My Reasearch Paper
Deciding on a topic for my multi genre English project was harder than I had expected. Considering

the Olympic Games or Major League Baseball, as I have a strong interest in sports, especially
baseball. While researching the Olympics, I was able to find plenty of information. When I first

From there, I simplified my searches into more narrow areas, such as the history of Major League

me fewer results, averaging in the 50 million range. With this many results for the narrowed topics,
taking different view points in each paper to the broader topic would be easy. Using the same database
as I did for the Olympics, EBSCO, I was able to find almost 26,000 results for Major League
Baseball. The subcategories resulted in fewer sources, around 1,000 each. Google Scholar also offered
a sufficient amount of sources, about 1 million for Major League Baseball in general, and around
40,000 for each narrowed search. Both the database results and Google Scholar results provided me
with more educated writings and information on Major League Baseball than that of Google. Again,
eBooks seemed to be the most logical answer to finding print sources on Major League Baseball. I
was able to find over 100 eBooks, on one site alone, with information regarding Major League
Baseball. The information I found on Major League Baseball was interesting and ample. Using the
sources I found while researching the topic would lead to a well written multi genre project. After

3 Fundamental Metrics
What are the three fundamental dimensions found in physics? How are these three dimensions
represented in the metric system(s) in terms of standard, quantitative units of measure? The three
fundamental dimensions in physics used for measurement are length, mass and time. The metric
system is used globally and is accepted as the standard unit of measurement by the scientific
community. For the metric system, these dimensions are labeled as meter (m), kilogram (kg) and
seconds (s). They are all broken down in to multiples of 10 and use scientific notation and exponents
to note the value. There are also two other measurement systems, International System (SI) that is also
known as the meter kilogram second (MKS) system and the centimeter gram second or CGS system.
The MKS system follows the pattern of the metric system in that everything is in multiples of ten. The
metric system also implements a system of prefixes that also denote quantities, along with the
exponents. The CGS system also follows the basic rules of the metric system; it deals with
measurements on a much smaller scale. Due to the smaller scale, the CGS system is preferred in the
field of chemistry.

changed in many areas of our lives. Technology has changed travel, you can now book your own
plane ticket without going to a traveler s agency, schooling you can take classes online, and have
access to doctors and medicine without having to leave your home. I chose to write about the topic of
banking. With the help of technology banks are able to reach out to more customers and provide better
services to them. How has technology affected the world of banking? What choices do we have when
it comes to our banking needs? With the advance technology, banking has become a 24 hours a day
and seven days a week ability. Not too long ago banks were only open from 9:00am to 3:00pm,
workers and businesses rushing to get to the bank before they close. Paychecks were handed out
personally not direct deposit, cashing or depositing a paycheck entailed a trip to the bank. Now most
companies have direct deposit and the printed paycheck is becoming a thing of the past, this is only
one example of how technology in banking has changed in society. The electronic banking (e banking)
can be described as the automated method of new and traditional banking services which reduce cost,
and simplify front and backend process satisfying customers. (In software engineering, the terms of
front end and back end are distinctions which refer to the separation of concerns between a

Honor Marine Science Senior Project
If Marine Science was not fascinating enough, think about how interesting it is that high school
students are being introduced to it at such an early age, and how this introductory science can have a
measurable impact on our environment. Today s young adults do not cease to amaze and have become
the future representatives of eco friendly living. STPS s very own Michael Conner had the honor of
lecturing these eco beacons and green go getters about sea turtles in Ryan Cilsick s gifted 12th grade

David Foster Wallace Speech Analysis
It will actually be within your power to experience a crowded, hot, slow, consumer hell type situation
as not only meaningful, but sacred, on fire with the same force that made the stars: love, fellowship,
the mystical oneness of all things deep down. Spoken by David Foster Wallace at the 2005 Kenyon
graduation ceremony. The purpose of his speech was to validate how important a liberal arts education
is and how it will affect the rest of their lives.
David Foster Wallace talks about how the commencement speakers should speak about why they were

by interpreting reality differently. Basically that we are so close minded to so many ideas and forget to

because they both would not try to understand each other s beliefs. And that a Liberal Arts Education

Essay On King Cobra
Here s the new ride, the King Cobra (not to be confused with the King Cobra, the similarly

The Cask Of Amontillado, By Edgar Allen Poe
Often main characters lead to wrongful accusations and rash decisions. It serves as a metaphor to
reality, where constant misjudgment of peers occurs. Disguises and changes of clothing are central to
plots such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, The Mysterious Affairs at Styles, and The Cask
of Amontillado. In JK Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, Quirrell a professor at
Hogwarts disguises himself as a harmless individual while working for Voldemort. In the Mysterious
Affairs at Styles by Agatha Christie, Emily Inglethorp is killed by her deceptive friend Evelyn
Howard. The Cask of Amontillado, by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator Montresor is seeking revenge and
fakes the role of a loyal servant. These texts demonstrate how easily characters trust based on physical
appearance.
In Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, Quirrell, a professor at Hogwarts, hides behind false
pretenses. He is hired by professor Dumbledore to teach defense against the dark arts. As Harry begins
his first year at Hogwarts he begins to find himself in troublesome situations. Thus, leads Harry and
his peers to learn about the stone that possesses the power to bring back Voldemort. They believe that
someone in the castle is after it. However they have no suspicion of Quirrell s involvement. His
stammering speech portrays him as very timid man. The narrator sympathizes for him. Quirrell s
deceptive personality misleads Harry and the readers that Quirrell has nothing to do

An Analysis of Sacrifice in Arthur Miller s All My Sons
In All My Sons sacrifice plays a crucial role in almost every part of the play. Miller explores the
impact of sacrifices made for one s family versus humanity as a whole, explicitly the direction and
intention of a sacrifice. As part of this essay, I will identify and explain what I consider to be the most
important in the play. The second aspect of sacrifice in All My Sons which I will examine in this essay
involves the idea that not all sacrifices are actually conscious decisions; many of the acts of sacrifice
in the play could be explained simply by an escape does Joe Keller kill himself as a final realisation of
the crimes that he has committed or just as an escape from the pressure around him?
When we first encounter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the concept of a fine hairline crack could also be grafted onto Keller as a person: he has
a serious and life threatening flaw which is only revealed after close inspection.
In a sense, throughout the play Miller is also suggesting that just as an individual can thoroughly
disrupt a family, so can an individual completely eviscerate a society linking back to the idea of a
small crack and its massive outcome. Just as Joe Keller s denials lead to his family being torn apart, so
Miller is implying that the same is true on a much larger humanitarian scale.
As well as sacrificing morality, it is clear that towards the climax of the play, Joe sacrifices
responsibility in order to preserve himself. On page 55 George is having an argument with Chris, Joe
Keller s son when he says: And he s the kind of boss to let a hundred and twenty one cylinder heads be
repaired and shipped out of his shop without even knowing about it? This questioning towards Keller
is interesting because it shows us that George thinks he is responsible and he even comes up with a
diligent retort later on the same page which makes Joe seem like a responsible boss; even to the
audience: The same Joe Keller who never left his shop without first going round to see that all the
lights were out. This seemingly un arguable confirmation that Joe is a responsible person is torn apart
when we witness George, in a very accusatory manner, shout at Ann: He simply told your father

Analysis Of 911 By Michael Burke
Hero. A word that has 7.442 billion different definitions and or examples. An author named Michael
Burke; a writer for the Wall Street Journal, writes to persuade wealthy people who have a strong
influence on the daily world to recognize a problem that happens yearly on a single date.9/11. First
responders or better known as the heros of 9/11 were sent to a different location to watch their own
ceremony at ground zero, all while congressmen sit and take their seats at the real ceremony. This all
arises due to the upcoming 10th anniversary of 9/11. He builds his argument through the use of
organization and pathos.
First and foremost, it was thought that Mr. Burke would never get his his point across. This is what
makes his organization so important. Burke drags his thesis out to three quarter of the article at a point
which he switch his focus to the real point at hand. For weeks ordinary New Yorkers and visitors from

Hamlet And The Basic Human Need For Truth
Hamlet and the Basic Human Need for Truth Marcus Aurelius is quoted as saying, Everything we hear
is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. This idea is examined in
William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a play full of warmly delivered lies and completely intentional deceit.
Hamlet himself shows how a life full of lies and deceit breeds a desire for something real. In the
beginning of the play, authenticity is introduced as a rare trait and the Ghost reveals treachery to
Hamlet setting him on a path that leads to his demise. Hamlet s actions are motivated by a search for
something real and true in both his life and himself and in this search he comments on the nature of
truth itself.
Within Shakespeare s Hamlet resides a strong theme of illusion and reality shown in the attention that
is drawn to the seeming and being within the characters. The play itself is about acting because not
only are actors required to act out the parts that are written, but also the characters themselves are
acting. They put on a facade just as an actor assumes a role on the stage (Bloom 11). Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern seem to be concerned friends. Instead, they are simply acting as such because they are
charged by the king to find the origin of Hamlet s peculiar behavior. Gertrude seems to be the dutiful
queen that married Claudius for the benefit of the kingdom itself while she has simply failed to grieve
her husband, dishonored his memory by marring so soon after

The 400 Blows By Francois Truffaut
The 400 Blows is a great film. It is a testimony to Francois Truffaut s greatness. This is a film about a
young French boy that has a troubled childhood. He was a rebel of sorts. He got in some trouble in the
classroom and out of the classroom. He wasn t necessarily more troublesome than any other kid
during that time. I think he is misunderstood and put in difficult situations. This French Film Noir had
music, scenery, and a unique freeze frame that made this film great. Music added to this film. French
music and classical music was played in the background. At no time was there any lyrics to the songs
being played. I think this was advantageous as the camera angles captured the emotion of Antoine and
other characters. Also the scene itself often in Paris was full of hustle and bustle. It s a big city so the
city sounds where heard. Thus music with lyrics were not needed. I think the final scene is a great
scene. This scene is of Antoine running away for the last time going to the ocean. Quiet and unique
percussion music was being played as he was running towards the ocean. Scenery itself was set for the
most part in Paris France. This was a city that was full of business day and night. The streets were
crowded with pedestrians and cars were seen zooming by. This reflected how a boy such as Antoine
could be forgotten and entangled with skipping school and other poor choices. The scene where
Antoine is skipping school with his other school buddy indicates how he really was

Educational Attainment And Earnings Analysis
2.9 Educational Attainment and Earnings From the point of view of the development economists,
education not only offers the opportunity to escape deprivation through improvements in employment
and earnings prospects but also has unproductive benefits such as improved health and ability to
function and Successfully integrate into the mainstream society, all factors that could promote better
education and labor market outcomes (Van der Berg, 2008: 7). The primary focus of research by labor
economists was therefore to determine how much the education level contributes to employment
probabilities and subsequent wages and how the level of education contributes to such incomes. In its
simplest form, human capital theory posits that an individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, as countries develop demand for specialized workers generally increases, and return to

social networks or the transfer of a human capital variable cannot be observed, seems to have a
positive impact on their children s profits. For the most part, the benefits of education are set in
motion through the labor market. The best educated are more likely to be employed, they are generally
more productive and are rewarded with higher earnings when employed. Some educational benefits,
such as improved health, may also not be explicitly related to the labor market, but could increase the
pecuniary benefits associated with labor market participation. Although the benefits of education are
more pronounced for the children of educated parents, social mobility upwards is also possible for the
poor who invest in

Write An Essay On Bioethanol From Ethanol To Brazil
Ethanol, also called ethyl alcohol or drinking alcohol, is an organic compound belonging to the
alcohol group. It could also be abbreviated EtOH. The hydroxyl, OH, functional group differentiates
the compound from the other organic compounds and hence shares some of the same physical and
chemical properties, with other alcohols. Ethanol is used as fuel, solvents and in alcoholic beverages.
It is also used as antiseptics, household cleaning products, varnishes and in alcohol thermometers
(Garcia). The molecular formula of ethanol is C2H6O, normally written as C2H5OH or CH3CH2OH.
The molar mass, boiling point and melting point of ethanol is 46.069g/mol, 78.29ºC and 114.14ºC,
respectively (Ethanol). Ethanol is a colorless liquid with a slight odor, soluble in water, flammable,
volatile and evaporates easily when left in the open (Garcia). Brazil is the largest country in the

Bioethanol is made from renewable resources hence, it is infinite. It is greener and better for the
environment by producing fewer greenhouse gases. More planting of sugarcane meant more uptake of
CO2 and release of O2. Ethanol also produces six less molecules of carbon dioxide when combusted
versus gasoline, seen in the following equations. C2H5OH + 3 O2  2 CO2 + 3 H2O (ethanol
combustion) versus C8H18 + 12.5 O2  8 CO2 + 9 H2O (gasoline combustion). Finally, a lot of
countries can be self reliant because these countries can grow the crop and possibly manufacture the
fuel (Advantages). While there are many advantages, there is one major disadvantage to worry about.
This disadvantage is using it for fuel or food. Brazil does not really have this problem, but in America,

Secret Service Ethical Issues
The morality of this case is a particularly hard one to decide upon. Considering the view of a
consequentialist theory is very much different than the decision reached by some non consequentialist
views. Although these differences exist, I believe the way the moral issue is stated clearly shows how
the actions of the Secret Service were morally sound. In this essay, the moral issue was questioning if
the Secret Service was wrong to hire Albert Gonzalez. If the issue had been about Gonzalez s actions,
then I might reach a different ruling. However, because we are only looking at the Secret Service s
actions, I believe they did nothing wrong. The fact that this case is significant shows there are larger

As cited repeatedly in the paper, the Secret Service was fully aware of Gonzalez potentially acting out
while working for them. For me, that is enough to constitute an informed decision because at least a
little thought was given to any and all potential consequences. Could they have been more careful and
provided more supervision? Of course they could have, however that is not the moral issue being
addressed here. Furthermore, I believe it is safe to assume the Secret Service hired Gonzalez out of
necessity. The government does not have the best habits of staying at the forefront of technology; the
knowledge possessed by Gonzalez surely surpasses any other potential candidates for the job
Gonzalez was hired for. Not only that, but I believe the Secret Service did all involved parties a favor
by keeping Gonzalez out of jail the first time because everyone benefits from his knowledge,
Gonzalez did not have to waste away in jail, and people did not have to lose even more money to
Gonzalez due to the costs of putting him in jail for a lengthy sentence. Also, it was nice of the Secret
Service to give Gonzalez a second chance at the unripe, young age of 23. Could there be an argument
that Gonzalez was

Violation Of Social Norms
At a very early age, children learn about social norms to help them become proper citizens in society.
Examples of some social norms that students learn are: do not yell in the library, do not speak unless
spoken to, do not talk to strangers, and close the door when you use the restroom. As you grow older,
these rules become unspoken because everyone knows how to act like a proper individual in society.
The textbook definition of a social norm is something that is a rule of behavior that society accepts.
(Bicchieri) Since everyone knows these unsaid rules of society, what would happen when someone
decides not to follow these rules? What would people think and react? In this paper, I discuss my
violation of the social norm don t talk to strangers and discuss what I learned from this experiment.
The social norm that I chose to violate was initiating conversation and talking to strangers on public
transportation. By doing this I deviated from the unspoken rule which says that you should not talk to
strangers and that you should not interact with others on public transportation because of the
possibility of them harming or assaulting you. From doing this activity, I learned that power dynamics
exist in every situation and that by violating a social norm I, as a young woman, put myself in a
vulnerable position. I chose to make this decision to talk to strangers on public transport because it
seemed relatively safe and within my zone of comfort, considering

The families were not the only ones to face emotional needs. Early intervention specialists also

Providers also experienced emotional distress with the families who had more complex emotional

2015 by ugcbioethics by Amy Bloom, Bioethics Program faculty I have been reading the latest news

helpless to save her child, and big brother dispensing poison to an innocent girl whirled through our

In the outstanding findings of 1980 an estimation of more than 130 million infants are born, and
umbilical cord blood (UCB) is known to be the most abundant reservoir of hematopoietic cells for

are also still studying more ways to treat diseases with cord blood. At Duke University, for example,
researchers are using patients own cord blood in trials for cerebral palsy and Hypoxic ischemic

Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Essay
Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Descartes is responsible for the skepticism that has been labeled
Cartesian doubt. Hume critiques this skepticism in his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding.
After his discussion of Cartesian doubt, he offers a different type of skepticism that he considers as
being more effective philosophically. Is Hume right in his characterization of Cartesian doubt and is
the skepticism he offers better? Descartes introduced the idea of universal doubt to philosophy. If there
is even a slight case for doubting something, then it should be doubted. His skepticism was used to
find a basis for knowledge and his aim was to establish truths. He relayed this universal doubt to all
human understanding. Not only does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cartesian doubt does not allow us to advance. We would be in a constant state of doubting. How
would one lay a foundation of truths if it is possible to doubt all? No reasoning could ever bring us to
a state of assurance and conviction upon any subject (Hume Section XII part 1). Hume does give some
credit to this method of skepticism. It can be useful in philosophy when used reasonably. A degree of
doubt should escort every person who reasons. This doubt gets rid of prejudices in judgments and
helps rid closed mindedness brought about by education. It allows philosophy to be brought down to
basic principles and gives a foundation to slowly build upon. This slow progress allows a review of
thoughts and establishes sure steps to truths. Hume s skepticism is limiting but not as limiting as
Cartesian doubt. Hume calls this mitigated skepticism. Another species of mitigated skepticism which
may be of advantage to man kind is the limitation of our enquiries to such subjects as are best
adapted to the narrow capacity of human understanding (Section XII part. 3). We should direct our
focus and studies to experiences of everyday life and to common occurrences. Extraordinary or remote
ideas and thoughts should be left to the imaginations of people of the arts. By looking at the natural
powers of the mind one can find what should be the objects of enquiry and study. Hume writes that are

Analysis of Twelfth Night Essay
William Shakespeare, arguably the most important writer in all of English
Literature, is certainly the most influential playwright of the English Renaissance. Born in 1564 in
Stratford upon Avon in rural northern England, he was the son of a middle class glove maker.
Competing against such illustrious company as Christopher Marlowe and Ben Johnson, Shakespeare
quickly became one of the most popular playwrights in the city of London, and a favourite of the
monarch, the powerful Queen Elizabeth I. Shakespeare wrote thirty eight plays. Twelfth Night was
written near the middle of Shakespeare career, around 1601, and most critics consider it as one of his
greatest comedies.

Retailing building supply stores have become a popular retail industry sector due to increased public
awareness and the need of many homeowners for the home improvement products. Back in the 1970s,
long before warehouse stores ruled home improvement land, do it yourselfers shopped at home

25,000 more than local hardware stores and eliminated the extra trip to the lumberyard. The

named Retailer of the Year in the home building supply industry. The chain entered Louisiana and
Arizona next.
By 1983 sales were more than $250 million. The company also began installing computerized
checkout systems, and by 1984 inventory reordering was computerized. The same year the company
acquired nine Bowater Home Centers in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. Home Depot then entered
Southern California, Handy Dan s home turf, opening six stores. The Bowater acquisition and rapid
internal expansion caused Home Depot to falter and experienced the only dip in earnings in its history.
Back on track in 1986, sales exceeded $1 billion in the firm s 60 stores. Entering the competitive
northeastern market, the company bought three Modell s Shoppers World stores on Long Island. In
1989 Home Depot added 22 Stores, primary in California, Florida, and New England. Home Depot s

2008 Us Economic Recession
INTRODUCTIONS
The Global Financial Crisis of 2008 is considered by many economists to be the worst financial crisis
since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It resulted in the threat of total collapse of large financial
institutions, the bailout of small and big banks by national governments, and downturns in stock
markets around the world. In United States, the housing market also suffered, resulting in evictions,
foreclosures and prolonged unemployment. The crisis played a significant role in the failure of key
businesses, declines in consumer confidence, declines in consumer wealth estimated in trillions of US
dollars, and a downturn in economic activity leading to the 2008 2012 global recession and
contributing to the European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By September 2008, average U.S. housing prices had declined by over 20% from their mid 2006 peak.
As prices declined, borrowers with adjustable rate mortgages could not refinance to avoid the higher
payments associated with rising interest rates and began to default. During 2007, lenders began
foreclosure proceedings on nearly 1.3 million properties, a 79% increase over 2006. This increased to
2.3 million in 2008, an 81% increase vs. 2007. By August 2008, 9.2% of all U.S. mortgages
outstanding were either delinquent or in foreclosure. By September 2009, this had risen to 14.4%
Easy credit conditions
Lower interest rates encouraged borrowing. From 2000 to 2003, the Federal Reserve lowered the
federal funds rate target from 6.5% to 1.0%.[68] This was done to soften the effects of the collapse of
the dot com bubble and the September 2001 terrorist attacks. The Fed then raised the Fed funds rate
significantly between July 2004 and July 2006. This contributed to an increase in 1 year and 5 year
adjustable rate mortgage (ARM) rates, making ARM interest rate resets more expensive for
homeowners. This may have also contributed to the deflating of the housing bubble, as asset prices
generally move inversely to interest rates, and it became riskier to speculate in housing.

Grading Mechanics: Assigning Letter Grades Based on a Curve
Semester grades are determined by a curve. The nature of a curve is that your grade is based on your
performance relative to all other students in the class. It does not involve an absolute standard, e.g., 90
100 = A, 80 90 = B, etc., which you may be used to from some other courses. I believe that a curve is
ultimately the fairest way to determine grades, since it does not set some arbitrary absolute standard,
but judges students on their performance relative to their peers.
With a curve, your grade is based on your percentile rank in the class, i.e., the percentage of students

Persuasive Essay On Baby Dolls
The practice of giving little girls baby dolls has been around since forever. Only through the years
have the dolls grown more and more lifelike. The more realistic ones that required regular feedings,
burping, changing of diapers, and an assortment of a wardrobe that could rival most closets today.
Though quality came at a very high price. You would have had to have the luck of being an only child,
or the favorite of all your siblings to be able to call one of these luxurious dolls to call your own. As a
child myself, I have always had a preference of fair skinned dolls than those that mirrored my own
complexion. The only explanation i could conceive is deep institutionalized racism, but it wasn t
something i learned directly. It just developed over years covertly laced within skipped chapter of my
history textbooks, the media s seemingly endless reports of thugs , and the complete
underrepresentation in my limited circle of entertainment of school, Disney movies, and books. Even
with my mother s constant, effortless strategies of expanding my collection of Barbie s from the
lightest shades of cafe au lait with shiny, bone straight hair that glided through my plastic combs with
ease to the crispest, darkest shades of the night sky who hair was so thick and curly that no comb nor
brush ever survived a single run through. The Disney movies that lined my bookshelves always
featured fair skinned, petite protagonists who only outstanding features was the color of their hair.

How about getting a machine that can do all the walking for you with less energy? People with broken
legs have attested to this. The knee walker does away with all that walking entails but just for one
knee; Better half than none. Multitasking As one hand controls the knee walker, the other hand is busy
involving itself with other duties. This device cannot restrict one from doing another activity. For
instance, one could hop at a store to buy some things without wondering who will help you carry
them. As you cruise around, have one hand at the steer wheel as the other clutches a grocery bag.
Source : eugenekamphoto.typepad.com Conclusion With the use of a knee scooter for broken legs;
living has been made easy since one can now do anything regardless of your injured knee. This differs
greatly with the clutches where no one is at liberty to carry out other duties and poses other risks like
body aches, armpits ache and drooping of the body from using them. This is the complete opposite of

Sports Psychology Timeline
Sport psychology dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when several psychologists
started conducting sports related studies. In the United States, the first recognized sports psychology
study was carried out by an American psychologist Norman Triplett, in 1898. He wrote about his
findings in what was regarded as the first scientific paper on sports psychology, published in 1898, in
the American Journal of Psychology. Many Years later, across the Atlantic in Europe, Sport
psychology took its place primarily in 1920s Germany where the first sports psychology laboratory
was founded in Berlin by Dr. Carl Diem. The sport psychology phenomena made its way to Russia in
1925 and set the tone for what was to come in the battle for dominance ... Show more content on

Not only to land a bigger paycheck, but often times with hopes to become an iconic figure in the sport
he or she competes in. That being said, it is common for an athlete to deal with a lot of pressure.
Maintaining consistent peak performance while performing under those pressures requires the help of
a sport psychologist. According to Scott Goldman, director of clinical and sport psychology at the
University of Arizona, Everyone is trying to figure out how to maximize talent. (Voelker). Therefore,
athletes are trying to find an edge that goes beyond physical abilities and conditioning. Professional
sports organizations along with Universities hire sport psychologists to help athletes stay on top of
their game. With the field growing, so is the need for psychologists at all levels. Even beyond
Olympians and professionals, the need extends all the way down to college athletes and even high
school athletes looking to advance in their prospective sport. Jobs are also available in the military as
it is paramount to keep troops mentally fit for battle. Because of that, the U.S. military is the country s
largest employer of sport and performance psychologists where they are typically referred to as
Performance Enhancement Specialists (Voelker). The field goes beyond athletics and even is
implemented by corporations to ensure its employees can

Voting System In America
Over seventy years ago, Joseph Stalin, leader of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, made a
remark about the democratic voting system in the United States. He stated, ...it is completely
unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who will
count the votes, and how. Joseph Stalin, who once was a totalitarian dictator, was able to see the
loopholes in our democratic election process that the American people never addressed, or they simply
ignored. An American s vote no longer matters in the way that it used to; In fact, this is no longer an
area of black and white, instead it has changed to an obscure gray field that shadows over all
Americans. The prestigious land of the United States, where democracy has been held up for over two
centuries, is no longer upholding the belief of one man one vote. Instead, it has allowed the 528 votes
of the Electoral College to run rampant and impede on the founding beliefs that all Americans hold
dear. Our voting process, with the Electoral College in charge, no longer speaks for the majority of the
people in the United States of America. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voters were extremely limited in ways to learn about their potential party candidates, and how their
ideas related to those of their candidate. But today, there are several ways for Americans to learn about
the candidates. We have television, radio, the internet, newspapers, word of mouth, and several other
methods to get the word out. Because of the sources that we now hold, the vote for the presidency
should be based completely off of the popular vote, and the Electoral College should be abolished.

Living Conditions In The Progressive Era
The Progressive movement that began in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was an attempt to bring
about governmental reforms and to correct injustices in American life. Tired of the poor working and
living conditions, overcrowding of the cities, political corruption, and abuses by industrialists, people
took it upon themselves to try and create change. By using many forms of the media, combined with
organized protests, people exposed these issues and informed thousands of Americans of the
conditions that existed. Living conditions were poor, food safety was strictly hazardous, and child
labor played a big part in the Progressive era.
One key aspect that was discussed was living conditions in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s were poor.

Food safety in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s was hazardous, filthy, and unsanitary. The food safety
issue was not thoroughly recognized until Upton Sinclair published his book, The Jungle. The
publishing of The jungle was meant to open America s eyes to the situation of the workers in the
filthy, dangerous Chicago stockyards. Instead, it caused an outrage over the meat packaging. Within
the first few weeks of his book getting published, Theodore Roosevelt received many letters from the
public regarding that the meat packing industry should be more closely watched and regulated. In
Sinclair s book, he stated, there would be meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in the dirt and
sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit... There would be meat stored in great piles in
rooms. This is showing that the meat was not properly taken care of and the workers simply did not
bother in trying to make it sanitary. Another piece of data that would support this would be, a man
could run his hand over these piles of meat and sweep off handfuls of the dried dung of rats. and This
was no fairy story and no joke; the meat would be shoveled into carts, and the man who did the
shoveling would not trouble to lift out a rat even if he saw one. The workers would feel and see the
dead rodents and not bother in attempting to do anything about

Explain the Utilitarian amp; Deontological aspects of informational privacy for employers amp; employees INTRODUCTION Patricia Dunn, placed number 17 on FORBES list of most powerful women, landed herself four felony counts by making unethically chivalrous decisions. Patricia Dunn, once a chairwoman on the board of Hewlett Packard, a position she held from February 2005 until September 2006. Her tenure was cut short on October 4, 2006 as she was charged with four felony counts for her role in a spying scandal. Five months later on March 14, 2007, California Supreme Court judge Ray Cunningham dropped criminal charges against her in the interest of justice on all four felony counts: fraudulent use of wire, radio or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, her system of ethics judged by its consequences is neither utilitarianism nor that of deontological reasoning. Patty Dunn should have approached the board from the get go. By not doing this, she followed a questionable trail of illegal activity Her utopian dreams of maintaining discretion of HP s goals and even her in house attempt at corralling the leaker are seemingly understandable. However her tact and failure to use common ethical business practices will be discussed in detail here. She had to have at least had an inkling that what she was about to embark upon was sensitive. Not only sensitive but dangerous! Dangerous in that cautions should always preface any actions involving personal information. Patricia Dunn is too smart to successfully play dumb. Utilitarianism reasoning does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or coercion. (Issues in Ethics V2 N1 Winter 1989) Patricia Dunn did not use utilitarianism aspects of information privacy for the employer. Instead it appears they were used more so as her personal vendetta. Patricia Dunn s case seems to be believable until Felony count #1, overt act #9. There was a navy yard and three forts guarding the harbor, including Fort Barrancas, Fort McRee, and Fort Pickins. On January 8, 1861, Florida Governor Madison S. Perry authorized Colonel Chase to seizing the forts at Pensacola. On the Fort Barrancas, 1st Lieutenant Adam J. Slemmer was an officer from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania during the Seminole Wars and the American Civil War. He heard rumors that the Florida Militia was planning on seizing the Navy Yard, the barracks and the forts in the Pensacola areas. With Slemmer not wanting to enter the union he moved gunpowder and other materials to Fort Pickens, which he thought, would be the safest port to fight from. On January 10, 1861, Florida seceded from the U.S. being the third state to secede. On January 15 and January 18 Slemmer refused demands for surrender from Colonel William Henry Chase who designed and constructed Fort Pickens. • 4. Gallows Humor In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift Gallows humor is defined as a type of humor that makes fun of a life threatening, disastrous, or terrifying situation (Merriam Webster n.d.). One can certainly understand why gallows humor might be deemed as insensitive, inconsiderate, and, in some cases, unamusing. In fact, to make a jest of a dire or hopeless situation is, in most cultures, seen as a sign of someone s bad character and their tasteless sense of humor. Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal exemplifies the cruelty and horridness of this so called humor. Published in 1779, A Modest Proposal proffers the satirical solution to Ireland s growing population of families in poverty. Its tongue in cheek suggestion is for poor mothers to sell their one year old children for their meat to the wealthy. Therefore, both parties benefit; the lower class is paid a handsome amount per pound of their baby, and the higher class is supplied the delicacy of baby flesh. While all readers can agree Jonathan Swift s recommendation is not meant to be taken seriously, there is a separation in opinion when asking whether Swift s satire is too absurd and offensive or is effective in making his point. Through intense, deep consideration, extensive research, and experts opinions, most readers can discern that Dr. Swift s satire is the former. Thus, Jonathan Swift s application of satire is simply too absurd and offensive for most readers. There are three main reasons for this: it makes a joke of a serious situation, ... • 5. Science Vs Religion Research Paper One of the most controversial discussions in human history is between the topics of science and religion. This discussion spans most of human history with far reaching effects. It has even stretched into our modern times, leaching into schools and politics. But before one can decide which side to take, and what views to align with, they require knowledge. Society must understand the similarities and differences between science and religion. Science differs immensely from religion in a variety of ways. Science is defined as systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation. The Torah was given to us by God, Who is omniscient. Since He knows all that ever is, was, or will be, it is inconceivable that the Torah wouldn t account for the circumstances of future generations. The laws of the Torah do not get outdated and discarded and God certainly won t retract the Torah and replace it with another book. (Numbers 23:19 says that God is not like a human being who might change his mind.) (Abramowitz) Despite many different religions assertions that they already have complete and perfect guides to life and understanding the universe, they have been known to change. One such example is Mormonism. The mormon faith has been known to evolve throughout history in accordance with changing eras and their social issues. For example In 1890, President Wilford Woodruff issued the Manifesto, which led to the end of plural marriage in the Church. (www.lds.org) previously polygamy was regularly practiced in mormon culture. However persecution drove the Mormons across the country till they were forced to change their standing. Adaptation to social change is shown often throughout mormon history changing their stance on racism. Brigham Young, whom BYU was named after made this statement about people of dark ... • 6. Milton Freedman Essay Milton Freedman Throughout the times of man s inhabitance on this planet, mankind has experimented with innumerable methods of trade and economics. Many believe that human restrictions on trade and a person s desire for objects can create a utopian way of economic life. The following will examine two articles: The Market Didn t Do It and A Good Conversation and the Marketplace. The goal of the following is to determine whether each is true and why based not only on the economic system of the world today, but also upon reason. Some think that all of the bad things in the world are as they are today due to the freedom of economic trade. An example of this is pollution. Environmental groups believe that because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a conversation reveals more about a person, their beliefs, desires, etc., so does the free market economy reveal the characteristics and individuality of a particular region, province, or country. Not everyone appreciated the free market. Yet there are striking similarities between the marketplace and a good conversation, and, if anything, the benefits from the communication, cooperation, and compromise of the marketplace are even greater than those from a good conversation. From the start, this article makes similar a good conversation and the free market, in that both benefit from the cooperation and communication. Communication for example needs to be honest. If you are not telling the truth to whomever you are speaking with, then what good is that conversation? It gets you nowhere. This ideal is directly proportional to that of the free market ideology. • 8. The Myths Of College Majors Myths of College Majors College students have the hardest time paying off their student loans, but why? Well, most students usually pick their major based on their talents and their interests.(Source, Time) This idea sounds like a smart move, but in fact it is putting students in a very difficult situation. Since most majors end up making considerably less money in their first year out of college, it is becoming more and more difficult for majors in the humanities and arts to pay off their student loans. When I chose my major, criminal justice, I did pick it because I had been involved with a police explorer program and participated in a criminal justice internship in high school. I did some research and found that by achieving a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know from researching my career path that the salary I will receive because of my degree will be ample to pay off my loans within a couple of years. Most students end up in debt because they don t take the time to look ahead to the future. For some it is a $80,000 life experience which leaves a future graduate with debt. For an example, my stepfather is a general manager for a car dealership. We had a conversation about college graduates who apply at his dealership for a salesperson job. These applicants have zero experience and when you look at their college major, it has nothing to do with sales. He had one individual who went to Anderson College. He was a music history major and during his interview he said that he needed the job to pay for his college loan payments. He was over $100,000 in debt. I found this shocking that someone would be that far in debt and they are not even using their degree. This is a common issue with many graduates. A college degree is no guarantee of economic success, but through a graduate s choice of their major, they can take at least some steps toward boosting their odds. (Source, IM) I interviewed ten family and friends who attended a college or university. Five out of ten people who went to college did not end up graduating. All five who did not graduate did not have scholarships or grants and had to pay for their tuition. Three of those five said it took over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Algae Implementation Lab Abstract: This lab had various objectives, but they were all similar in that, the main purpose was to understand the effects of extra nutrients in water and how they affect the environment around them. Also another overarching objective of this experiment was to see how a spectrophotometer could be used as an indirect way to see if algae are present in various types of matter at 450 nm absorbance. Another purpose of this experiment was to find out that acidic rain is a type of a pollutant that leads to a decrease in aquatic organisms. The hypothesis that was thought of during the initial understanding of the experiment was that as the amount or concentration of nitrogen and phosphorous increases so will the growth of algal. The results that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was supported, and the table number 1 shows the gradual increase in absorbance value for most of the group s test tubes, when comparing the low and high values in nutrients. This shows that the higher values correspond with more algae, and that goes true with what the hypothesis was. Due to the values going up; that meant to us that the absorbance was higher and that meant there were change in the properties of the sample. Even though there was room to get more precise values there were many problems that could have cause the deviance in the expected results such as not clearing out the test tubes well, or leaving them sitting for too long, this experiment was a great learning experience and educating myself about the effects of pollution on algae growth was a great topic. The absorbance level did increase the concentration of various nutrients increased it didn t increase as was expected but nevertheless it did increase. Basically there were some readings that were obtained that didn t go with what the majority of what the class had, which could have been the result of human error that was present during the course of the experiment. There are some changes that could be made into how the experiment was conducted. The cuvettes could have been cleaned better by using a disinfectant and wiping off the excess with a tissue paper that could been done before the sample from the test tubes were poured into the cuvettes. The time that the cuvettes were out before having their absorbance values collected could be lessen to ensure the most accurate readings possible. From participating in such an experiment, it is easier to recognize the problems that arise from the presence of acidic rain. As it was mentioned earlier acidic rain leaves the environment less and less suitable for the organisms that live there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Silicon Based PV Cells CHAPTER 2 SILICON BASED PV CELLS 2 2.1 Doping Procedure of Silicon based PV Cells A Silicon solar PV Cell is a device which is made up of semiconductor materials that produce electricity when exposed to light energy. [1] The doping process of a Silicon based PV Cell works by the photovoltaic material converting the light energy, photons, it absorbs into electrical energy. [1] Light (Photon) Energy  Electrical Energy Using a doping process, a p n junction is created in silicon as shown below: From the image above the photons, light energy, prompt the electrons flowing from the n junction to the p junction creating an electric current flow. [1] This is highlighted below: The process of doping involves the addition of atoms with different number of electrons so it creates an unbalanced number of electrons on the material that is being doped, in this case Silicon. [1] The material being doped, in this case Silicon will carry a negative charge if the base material absorbs excessive electrons. However, if the base material, Silicon, absorbs to little electrons then the material will carry a positive charge. [1] To achieve a doped material, using Silicon then there are 2 methods: Ion implantation of diffusion. These methods are carried out using Boron (B) to form a positively charged doped material and Arsenide (As) or Phosphorus (P) to form a negatively charged doped material. This is shown below: Ion Implantation can be achieved at room temperature for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. A Streetcar Named Desire Analysis Essay On Saturday, May 20th, I attended a production of Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire. This production, put on by the Scottish Ballet at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, offered a simmering story of sexuality and betrayal. Prior to my viewing of the performance, I sat in on the pre lecture where I was enlightened on the background of the story and choreographer. A Streetcar Named Desire is one of the few works to be performed as a play, a movie, and a dance production. The choreographer of this production, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, was discussed as being an accomplished artist whose love of jazz and hip hop influenced her creative decisions. The lecturer also touched upon how Williams life affected the play. The character Stanley was said to be modelled on his own father. The story of Streetcar is also very much affected by the time in which it is set. Because the story takes place two years following the end of World War II, there is a sense of newfound modernity and resistance to the old ways. Immediately following the pre lecture, I settled into my seat and noticed how anticipatory the audience seemed. All guests were obviously excited to attend and experience the production. The lights dimmed and we were brought into the stately southern home where Blanche Dubois story begins. She is garbed in all white and warm, bright lights that gave us a sense of her innocence. We witness her romance and marriage to Alan and his affair with a man who he met at his wedding. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From there, I simplified my searches into more narrow areas, such as the history of Major League Baseball, steroids in the MLB and spring training for Major League Baseball. These subtopics gave me fewer results, averaging in the 50 million range. With this many results for the narrowed topics, taking different view points in each paper to the broader topic would be easy. Using the same database as I did for the Olympics, EBSCO, I was able to find almost 26,000 results for Major League Baseball. The subcategories resulted in fewer sources, around 1,000 each. Google Scholar also offered a sufficient amount of sources, about 1 million for Major League Baseball in general, and around 40,000 for each narrowed search. Both the database results and Google Scholar results provided me with more educated writings and information on Major League Baseball than that of Google. Again, eBooks seemed to be the most logical answer to finding print sources on Major League Baseball. I was able to find over 100 eBooks, on one site alone, with information regarding Major League Baseball. The information I found on Major League Baseball was interesting and ample. How are these three dimensions represented in the metric system(s) in terms of standard, quantitative units of measure? The three fundamental dimensions in physics used for measurement are length, mass and time. The metric system is used globally and is accepted as the standard unit of measurement by the scientific community. For the metric system, these dimensions are labeled as meter (m), kilogram (kg) and seconds (s). They are all broken down in to multiples of 10 and use scientific notation and exponents to note the value. There are also two other measurement systems, International System (SI) that is also known as the meter kilogram second (MKS) system and the centimeter gram second or CGS system. The MKS system follows the pattern of the metric system in that everything is in multiples of ten. The metric system also implements a system of prefixes that also denote quantities, along with the exponents. The CGS system also follows the basic rules of the metric system; it deals with measurements on a much smaller scale. Due to the smaller scale, the CGS system is preferred in the field of chemistry. 2. Why are standard measurement systems necessary in science? Miller explores the impact of sacrifices made for one s family versus humanity as a whole, explicitly the direction and intention of a sacrifice. As part of this essay, I will identify and explain what I consider to be the most important in the play. The second aspect of sacrifice in All My Sons which I will examine in this essay involves the idea that not all sacrifices are actually conscious decisions; many of the acts of sacrifice in the play could be explained simply by an escape does Joe Keller kill himself as a final realisation of the crimes that he has committed or just as an escape from the pressure around him? Furthermore, the concept of a fine hairline crack could also be grafted onto Keller as a person: he has a serious and life threatening flaw which is only revealed after close inspection. In a sense, throughout the play Miller is also suggesting that just as an individual can thoroughly disrupt a family, so can an individual completely eviscerate a society linking back to the idea of a small crack and its massive outcome. Just as Joe Keller s denials lead to his family being torn apart, so Miller is implying that the same is true on a much larger humanitarian scale. As well as sacrificing morality, it is clear that towards the climax of the play, Joe sacrifices responsibility in order to preserve himself. On page 55 George is having an argument with Chris, Joe Keller s son when he says: And he s the kind of boss to let a hundred and twenty one cylinder heads be repaired and shipped out of his shop without even knowing about it? This questioning towards Keller is interesting because it shows us that George thinks he is responsible and he even comes up with a diligent retort later on the same page which makes Joe seem like a responsible boss; even to the audience: The same Joe Keller who never left his shop without first going round to see that all the lights were out. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. This idea is examined in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, a play full of warmly delivered lies and completely intentional deceit. Hamlet himself shows how a life full of lies and deceit breeds a desire for something real. In the beginning of the play, authenticity is introduced as a rare trait and the Ghost reveals treachery to Hamlet setting him on a path that leads to his demise. Hamlet s actions are motivated by a search for something real and true in both his life and himself and in this search he comments on the nature of truth itself. Within Shakespeare s Hamlet resides a strong theme of illusion and reality shown in the attention that is drawn to the seeming and being within the characters. The play itself is about acting because not only are actors required to act out the parts that are written, but also the characters themselves are acting. They put on a facade just as an actor assumes a role on the stage (Bloom 11). Rosencrantz and Guildenstern seem to be concerned friends. Instead, they are simply acting as such because they are charged by the king to find the origin of Hamlet s peculiar behavior. French music and classical music was played in the background. At no time was there any lyrics to the songs being played. I think this was advantageous as the camera angles captured the emotion of Antoine and other characters. Also the scene itself often in Paris was full of hustle and bustle. It s a big city so the city sounds where heard. Thus music with lyrics were not needed. I think the final scene is a great scene. This scene is of Antoine running away for the last time going to the ocean. Quiet and unique percussion music was being played as he was running towards the ocean. Scenery itself was set for the most part in Paris France. This was a city that was full of business day and night. The streets were crowded with pedestrians and cars were seen zooming by. An analysis of satellite imagery has shown that Giant Pandas have lost 50% of their already vastly reduced habitat between 1974 and 1989. The major factors contributing the loss of habitat are the conversion of forests into agricultural areas, medicinal herb collection, bamboo harvesting, poaching and large scale development such as road construction, hydropower development and mining. Finding Clarity And Responsibility As A Mom And A Bioethicist The Bioethics Program A blog by students, alumni and faculty of the Bioethics Program Menu Skip to content Providing Masters level competency based training in clinical and research ethics. The Case of Cassandra C: Finding Clarity and Responsibility as a Mom and a Bioethicist Posted on January 16, 2015 by ugcbioethics by Amy Bloom, Bioethics Program faculty I have been reading the latest news regarding Cassandra C., the teen with Hodgkin s lymphoma who refused treatment but was forced into receiving it by a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling. As a mother and a bioethicist, these are the times when reconciling my personal opinions with my professional experience can be most challenging. Many of my mom friends were shocked and horrified by the image of a young woman being restrained to a bed, forced to undergo treatment. They had visions of a screaming pained girl, a mother helpless to save her child, and big brother dispensing poison to an innocent girl whirled through our collective mind. From an ethics standpoint, it is generally wrong to force medical treatment on anyone, particularly when there are cultural and religious factors to be taken into consideration. I am reminded of cases involving Christian Scientists who believe that any traditional medical intervention is contrary to their cultural and religious views. Oftentimes, in cases involving a seriously ill child, parental rights are legally overruled and children are forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the outstanding findings of 1980 an estimation of more than 130 million infants are born, and umbilical cord blood (UCB) is known to be the most abundant reservoir of hematopoietic cells for many clinical applications. There aren t enough hematopoietic stem cells in one unit. This is why scientists and clinical trials are doing their best to come up with a way to double the unit so adults are able to use it, and not just adolescence. Scientists are also still studying more ways to treat diseases with cord blood. At Duke University, for example, researchers are using patients own cord blood in trials for cerebral palsy and Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (a condition in which the brain does not receive enough oxygen). Trials are also under way for the treatment of autism at the Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, California. Also, according to the New England Journal of Medicine, cord blood is still better than marrow transplantations after studies were done. The adult patients in the trial had advanced leukemia, and were then give a bone marrow transplant, but recovery was slower because they weren t matched. On the other hand, the leukemia patients that were given cord blood transplants had more matches than bone marrow, and also had no acute graft versus host disease. • 38. Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Essay Descartes, Hume and Skepticism Descartes is responsible for the skepticism that has been labeled Cartesian doubt. Hume critiques this skepticism in his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding. After his discussion of Cartesian doubt, he offers a different type of skepticism that he considers as being more effective philosophically. Is Hume right in his characterization of Cartesian doubt and is the skepticism he offers better? Descartes introduced the idea of universal doubt to philosophy. If there is even a slight case for doubting something, then it should be doubted. His skepticism was used to find a basis for knowledge and his aim was to establish truths. He relayed this universal doubt to all human understanding. Not only does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cartesian doubt does not allow us to advance. We would be in a constant state of doubting. How would one lay a foundation of truths if it is possible to doubt all? No reasoning could ever bring us to a state of assurance and conviction upon any subject (Hume Section XII part 1). Hume does give some credit to this method of skepticism. It can be useful in philosophy when used reasonably. A degree of doubt should escort every person who reasons. This doubt gets rid of prejudices in judgments and helps rid closed mindedness brought about by education. It allows philosophy to be brought down to basic principles and gives a foundation to slowly build upon. This slow progress allows a review of thoughts and establishes sure steps to truths. Hume s skepticism is limiting but not as limiting as Cartesian doubt. Hume calls this mitigated skepticism. Another species of mitigated skepticism which may be of advantage to man kind is the limitation of our enquiries to such subjects as are best adapted to the narrow capacity of human understanding (Section XII part. 3). We should direct our focus and studies to experiences of everyday life and to common occurrences. Extraordinary or remote ideas and thoughts should be left to the imaginations of people of the arts. By looking at the natural powers of the mind one can find what should be the objects of enquiry and study. Hume writes that are two enquiries that man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Analysis of Twelfth Night Essay William Shakespeare, arguably the most important writer in all of English Literature, is certainly the most influential playwright of the English Renaissance. Born in 1564 in Stratford upon Avon in rural northern England, he was the son of a middle class glove maker. Competing against such illustrious company as Christopher Marlowe and Ben Johnson, Shakespeare quickly became one of the most popular playwrights in the city of London, and a favourite of the monarch, the powerful Queen Elizabeth I. Shakespeare wrote thirty eight plays. Twelfth Night was written near the middle of Shakespeare career, around 1601, and most critics consider it as one of his greatest comedies.
