In order to resolve the issues of hate speech, one should address the necessary balance between
personal liberties and public safety. However, some restrictions must be placed on hate speech,
including the expression of hateful ideas. It is imperative that hate speech is limited in some

conservative beliefs and strong yet reserved feminist ideas engraved in my very being. Plain to
say, when it came time to pick the topic of my first college essay, I found that I was only
comfortable writing what I was told. I had lost the ability to think for myself and found myself
afraid to express my ideas freely. However, throughout the duration of this semester, I have found a

The person that I found in my career choice is a person named Charles Henry Turner. I selected
him as my source because he was an African American man who was conducting research in a
time where African americans didn t have much freedom and the fact that he made so many
discoveries and was very talented made me become very interesting in him. Turner was born in
Cincinnati, Ohio in 1867 and was the first African American to receive a Ph.D in zoology from the
University of Chicago. Charles graduated from high school as class valedictorian and was very
focused and talented in his studies. After getting his bachelor s degree in 1891 and his master a
year later, he worked at a number of high schools as a teacher, despite having a doctorate. He
devoted his time into studying insects and was the first person to discover that insects can hear,
can alter behavior, and are capable of learning based on things they ve experienced in the past.
Turner Published over 70 research papers and pioneered research techniques in the study of animal
behavior. Sadly, Charles Henry died on February 14, 1923 and the last paper he was working on
was about conducting research on freshwater
