The value of objective and subjective evidence in understanding mental health conditions
It is important to consider both subjective and objective evidences to gain a comprehensive picture
of any mental health condition. I am going to demonstrate through examples how parallel
considerations can be used by clinicians to gain a full understanding of mental health disorders.
Subjective evidence is how the patient interprets the working of his own mind. It includes what he
reports about his thoughts and feelings including any uncomfortable sensations or distressing
thoughts. Objective evidence on the other hand is measurable. It comprises of any signs of the
illness that can be observed by a third person and any abnormality that has a ... Show more content

He takes into consideration not only the patient s mental state but also the patient s general physical
health, psychosocial or environmental problems, their ability to integrate into society and take care
of themselves.
Subjective evidence includes the thoughts and feelings of the patient. It comprises of the
symptoms the patient is reporting and the level of distress he is experiencing. A patient suffering
from depression for example might report symptoms of having dark thoughts, feeling blue, can
complain of persistent low mood, outbursts of crying, decreased appetite and activity levels, lack
of sleep. These are all examples of subjective evidence. Objective evidence about the condition
includes any signs noticeable to the clinician that can be taken as an indication of mental disease.
This can include slumped posture, poor hygiene, scruffy appearance, sadness, crying, sighing or
pacing. Lack of appetite can be a symptom a depressed person is complaining about, while the
amount of weight loss is measurable and objective. Aches, pains and flulike symptoms may not
have any biological basis in the body but can be psychosomatic manifestations of the depression.
Moreover depression usually accompanies many severe, long term conditions.
During the psychological assessment the clinician gathers all information about a patient s medical
health and mental health history, collects information from immediate family members, looks

Socio-Emotional Development
Physical, Cognitive, and Socio Emotional developments are ones that every growing individual
goes through. The EDC 307 course specifically focuses on these developments in middle childhood
and adolescence. This course has taught me an enormous amount about each of those stages. I
learned that in middle childhood, cognitive development entails changes in self concept, the child
relates their real self to an ideal self that they created. However, in adolescencethe cognitive
changes are centered around egocentrism and abstract thinking. As for physical development, in
middle childhood the changes are few, slow, and regular. Puberty is the most significant physical
change that happens during adolescence, ad it happens fast and suddenly . Socio emotional
development concerns social behaviors with peers and loved ones. During middle childhood,
kids normally judge themselves based on the opinions of their peers, parents, and teachers. I
found out that this differs in adolescence in that teenagers try to find their real identity regardless
of opinions. Although I mentioned a few things that I learned in this course, it is only a small
percentage of all that I have actually acquired. Moving on in my life, this information will be a
great beneficial factor not only in my career, but in my personal life as well. If I end up working
with kids, it will help me better understand them and, in turn, communicate... Show more content on

Stylistic Devices In The Kite Runner
Analysis of The Kite Runner
The book: The Kite Runner , (2003) by Khaled Hosseini, describes the life of Amir, whose
experience of growing up parallels the developments in his home country: Afghanistan. These
similarities are reflected in the bildungsroman through a variety of symbols and stylistic devices.
Specifically, the use of invective language Amir calling his half brother a Hazaara boy (Hosseini,
2003, p. 275) and the Taliban glorifying their crimes as ethnic cleansing (Hosseini, 2003, p. 261)
reveals a long standing history racism in society. In other words, the prominence of discrimination
in daily life is displayed through the clash between social classes on both a personal and a cultural
level. In my opinion, the embodiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dancing Is A Language And Physical And Mental Skills
Dancing is a language, one anyone can read; however, the skill lies not in the ability to read, but
in the passion to write. When people hear the word dance, more specifically ballet, they associate it
with a stereotypical image of young girls prancing around in tutus, however, ballet goes beyond the
scope society has set for it. Most individuals don t fully comprehend that balletis a literacy practice
with various skill sets. In Barton and Hamilton s Literary Practice they define a literacy practice as
what people do with the literacy (3). To be a ballerina you have to be well versed in an assortment
of instruction; from body, to technique, to language, to musicality, etc., ballet is a literacy practice
that recognizes the extensive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The body itself is the main artifact or text that needs to be understood. The ballet is not just a
manner of linguistics, but the most classical branch of the language of dance, equivalent to the
written and spoken language of poetry. The beauty of ballet is that it can capture an audience and
tell a story simply through the movement of the body. John McConnell describes dance in his
book, Ballet as Body Language, as a series of connected, meaningful movements which externalize
inner feelings (1). They are storytellers who tell their stories through their body. Its refinement,
grace and fortitude can be used to propel powerful messages in captivating ways that both the
dancer and audience can relate to and understand. However, to be a ballerina and tell a story, you
must have the ideal body to do so. A ballet physique is by no means perfect and indisputably not
natural, but fostered for a specific practice that supports an undeniable regarded structure.
Technically, balletic movement aims for weightlessness in the lifting of individuals or limbs, in
jumps or leaps, and in creating clean lines. These specific necessities require an understanding for
the body. In order to understand ones body, a ballerina must be educated, to a degree, in kinesiology
(the scientific study of human movement). Although not all studios

The comparison of Marxists and Elitists accounts of political power.
In this essay we will try to compare the Marxists and the Elitists views of political power and
what makes these views different. Before we start analyzing it should be remarked that the
Elitists approach is closely connected to the works and ideas of Gaetano Mosca, Roberts
Michels and C. Wright Mills and the founder of such an approach to studying political power (W.
Pareto), who opposed his ideas to those of Marx and Gramsci. Therefore, there is a conflict of
ideas, which is to be unveiled in this essay.
Firstly, Marxists approach to political power is to be briefly overviewed. The cornerstone of all
Marx s work is the base superstructure model every aspect of his ... Show more content on

This idea reminds of the Nietzsche s Ubermensch, who is the one to power the others. The
similarity of these ideas lies in the fact that in Elitist s theory they assume that all people are not
created equal: some are stronger, more intelligent, more artistic, etc. Of course, not all abilities
lead to economic wealth or political power however, those people who have the most of the
particular abilities which a society rewards become the political elite. Here we can draw a line to
cross out Marx s idea that people are born equal and the only thing that makes them different is
being attributed to certain social class and therefore, there personal characteristics defer the social
structure the economic structure. Another Elitist Gaetano Mosca proposed the idea that there is
a ruling elite, so called Classe Politica (political elite) and Social forces those social and
economic categories on whom the society depends on because of their particular abilities. In
other words, not the whole layer of elite actually rules political power is the representative one
social forces have a major influence in them. Moreover, political elite are also the representatives
of the masses all elites stabilize their rule by making it acceptable to the masses. This is achieved

Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel
INTRODUCTION
BIOGRAPHY
Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel are considered possibly the most important
female figures of the Romantic Era. Both women were friends living with the struggles of trying to
make a name for themselves as musicians and composers while living in the shadows of their
famous male family members: Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn.
Clara Schumann
Clara Josephine Wieck was born on September 13, 1819 in Leipzig, Germany into a musical
family. Her father, Friedrich Wieck, was a first rate piano teacher. Her mother, Marianne Tromlitz,
was a soprano and one of Wieck s piano students. Clara Wieck s parents divorced when she was five
years old, leaving her and her four brothers in her father s custody. Tromlitz married Adolf Bargiel
and moved to Berlin, but she still kept in contact with Clara through letters. In 1824, rather than
learning the alphabet or her numbers, Clara started studying piano, violin, singing, music theory,
harmony, composition, and counterpoint primarily under the instruction of her father.
There was no subduing his determination to give a full trial to his method of teaching to apply it
at long range, reaching down into the infancy of his pupil, building thoroughly, broadly, greatly. He
would mold the daughter of his own blood, step by step, without fear of interference. The success
of the plan could make him the first teacher in Europe.
She soon became her father s star pupil. Although it was a rarity for women to

Music Paper Chapter 1
I.INTRODUCTION
I went to a concert held at Carnegie Hall in New York, New York, on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
The concert was performed by The Cleveland Orchestra. It was an all Mozart program conducted
by Mitsuko Uchida. The concert performed 3 pieces of Mozart s work: Piano Concerto No. 17,
Symphony No. 34 and Piano Concerto No. 25. I chose to focus on the last piece played in the
concert Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major, K. 503.
II.BACKGROUND OF COMPOSITION The work is a concerto completed by Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart on December 4, 1786, and it is the last of the twelve great piano concertos written in
Vienna between 1784 and 1786. The concerto is one of Mozart s longest with a duration of about 33

The orchestral sound felt liquid in nuance and Uchida balanced them with every phrase of her
performance. With the piano leading, the Cleveland Orchestra followed with the taste, vitality and
elegancy of Mozart and played with the charm through its delightful melodies and engaging
writing. I can especially sense the accents of trumpets and drums and enjoy how they brought a
regal splendor into the outer movements of the concerto. In the sway of her body, I was impressed
by Uchida s passion for her instrument; through her strokes of the keys, I understood her fervor
about Mozart s music. I can also feel a touching tenderness in Uchida s rendition of Mozart,
manifesting her love for the music.
V.CONCLUSION
Overwhelmingly beautiful is the description I would give to this enjoyable concert. When this
team of professionals, which includes a pianist, conductor and orchestra performed together, all
three were fully engaged in making the whole concert elegant. Even without professional music
appreciation knowledge, I still find Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major, K. 503 embodies all that
is elegant about Mozart s sublime concerti and delivers very articulate understanding of Mozart s
spirit in music. The impersonal imagination and artistic delight brought by music is the most
precious legacy left for us by the great musicians like Mozart.

A Relationship With A Woman
I was 50 years old and hadn t been to bed with a woman for four years. I had no women friends. I
looked at them as I passed them on the streets or wherever I saw them, but I looked at them
without yearning and with a sense of futility. I masturbated regularly, but the idea of having a
relationship with a woman even on non sexual terms was beyond my imagination. I had a 6 year
old daughter born out of wedlock. She lived with her mother and I paid child support. I had been
married years before at the age of 35. That marriage lasted two and one half years. My wife
divorced me. I had been in love only once. She had died of acute alcoholism. She died at 48 when I
was 38. My wife had been 12 years younger than I. I believe that she too is dead now, although I m
not sure. She wrote me a long letter each Christmas for 6 years after the divorce. I never responded.
. . . I m not sure when I first saw Lydia Vance. It was about 6 years ago and I had just quit a twelve
year job as a postal clerk and was trying to be a writer. I was terrified and drank more than ever. I
was attempting my first novel. I drank a pint of whiskey and two six packs of beer each night
while writing. I smoked cheap cigars and typed and drank and listened to classical music on the
radio until dawn. I set a goal of ten pages a night but I never knew until the next day how many
pages I had written. I d get up in the morning, vomit, then walk to the front room and look on the
couch to see how many pages were

Racial Stereotyping Of African Americans Essay
Introduction What does it mean to be stereotyped? The definition of stereotype is Stereotyping
may be defined as the tendency to attribute generalized and simplified characteristics to groups of
people in the form of verbal labels, and to act towards the members of those groups in terms of
those labels (Kanahara, 2006) When asked to pick a topic and do a research study, I decided
that the topic of racial stereotyping would be efficient. As I began to watch movies I started to
see a trend. I saw African Americans being portrayed as being violent, uneducated, and ghetto.
European Americans were portrayed as being self absorbed, materialistic, and privileged. What I
want to know is if different races are being stereotyped in media for the sake of entertainment.
Over time it seemed like the media would perceive African Americans as thugs. Not only were
African American s stereotyped as thugs, but they re also seen as being ghetto. African American
s are not the only ones stereotyped, but so are Hispanics and Asians. Hispanics in media are
portrayed as being illegal immigrants, uneducated, and housekeepers. Asians are portrayed as
foreigners, geeks, and kung fu fighters. Literature Review A study over social issues done by
Mastro mentions that in our history we have yet to experience a world free from complications of
race. One thing she mentions that contributes to race complications is the mass media. Not only are

When he walked away to his journeys, his life changed he learned many great truths. He could ve
selfishly escaped into enlightenment, but instead, he shared and taught others the paths that he had

There are approximately 630 visual effects shots in the film that had to be shot individual shots in
order to capture the proper theme of the storyline. Technical advancements were made in
environments, lighting, and simulation of physical effects and integration of CG characters in a
real environment. This movie was a true success through the use of well known actors, and by
using proper voice over acting throughout this film. Actors such as Tyrese Gibson (SGT Epps),
Magan Fox (Mikaela Banes), and John Keller (John Turturro) just to name a few of the actors that
made this movie a huge success. The reason acting played a significant role in the accomplishment
of this movie was because they had to act without having the most significant actors being present,
the Transformers themselves. All the acting conducted in this movie had to be conducted without
the use of real robot actors and most by standing in front of blue screens. By the use of editing
the theatrical scenes were superimposed into the background of the acting conducted. It took a
team of editors and computer programmers in order to accomplish this mission. This leads us
into our second topic for discussion, the type and style of directing along with how this movie

However, because the film contained the first African American princess which shed light on many

Therefore, some critical questions for children of color in the context of the role fairy tales may
play in the identity formation of children would be: How am I represented in the images in the
tales? What do these fairy tales tell me about me and about others? If I am not in the picture at all,
what does this mean? (Hurley, 228). Over many years, Disney princesses have developed into
something that little girls admire. With this, Disney only producing one race is quite limiting to say
the least. As a globally dominant producer of cultural constructs related to gender, race, ethnicity,
class and sexuality, Disney reigns supreme, and part of that supreme reign is an unquestionable
privileging of patriarchy and whiteness (Lester 294). However, recent Disney films similar to
Princess and the Frog have impacted this generation by breaking past racial barriers and
influencing the upcoming children. Creating characters like Tiana give young children of all
races a heroine princess from a Disney film that inspires and act as a role model in many ways.
By Disney broadening their princess standards: opening up the franchise to produce lead
characters of various races, have altered the viewers perspective. This has lead to portray women
of all ethnicities that children will look up and accomplish their goals.

Features of Decision Making in a Political System

INTRODUCTION
The changing role of law and the need to relate with a transforming society and its citizens has led
to a demand on decision making in political systems (Bijsterveld 2010). Due to the variance in the
decision making of these systems, interest groups carry out their public affairs (PA) activities in a
plethora of ways (Baumgartner 2007) as features such as type of political system, structure,
accountability, dependency on interest groups, etcetera influence PA practices. This stems from the
fact that issues that are significant in one political system might not be as significant in another

PA is however carried out in an unbiased and harmonious way as lobbyists work hand in hand
with EU officials (Woll 2006, Mahoney 2008) and other interest groups, as the EU would rather
grant access to a Europeanized voice when addressing issues.
With regards to choice of policies to influence, interest groups in the US are more focused on
influencing legislative matters rather than regulatory policies (Baumgartner 2007, Mahoney 2008)
as they seeks to influence the decisions of the congress, the court or the administrative government
(Hansford 2004). The EU is a regulatory regime, therefore, organized interest groups particularly
business interests prefer to lobby regulatory processes to secure their individual and collective
business interests (Levy and Prakash 2003). This is done because regulatory processes affect
businesses and more often than not have policy outcomes (Baumgartner 2007).
The level of dependence on organized civil societies (OCS) is another feature that influences the
practice of PA. EU s dependence on OCS arises from their lack of resources both financial and
human, to carry out their activities. The EU commission is highly short staffed, and in need of
OCS to provide technical information and act as contributory agents (Greenwood 2007). Therefore,
OCS play consultative and cooperative roles particularly in the Commission as

The Injury Of An Anterior Cruciate Ligament Essay
When an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is torn/ruptured it can be considered one of the most
agonizing experiences in an athlete s career. It is thought to be one of the first things that pops
into an athlete s mind and for many even their greatest fear when they injure their knee on the
field. A ruptured ACL can be so detrimental that it can possibly mean the end to an athlete s career.
It can signify for young athletes losing that chance of getting a scholarship as in this case and the
end of their careers for those who have gone professional. A ruptured ACL can result in large
amounts of pain, numerous surgeries and months of strenuous exercise and rehabilitation. It
requires an athlete to be dedicated and patient as pushing too hard can result in further injury. This
essay will discuss the pathology, the rehabilitation progress from six weeks to final stage including
the athletes return to play after experiencing an ACL injury.
Pathology
The ACL is part of a cruciate ligament that lies inside the kneejoint and attaches the front of the
tibia with the back of the femur. It is made up of strong fibres (collagen) that act like the strands of
a rope or cable and this enables the ligament to prevent knee hyperextension, limit excessive tibial
rotation, resist excessive anterior translation of the tibia on the femur as well as varus and valgus
forces. In the Northstar web page it is stated that, The anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most
important ligaments to

How Did Dorothea Dix Impact The World
What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around
us (Dorothea Dix Quotes). The same person that said this famous quote started the evolution to a
better path for the imprisoned and the mentally ill in the 1800 s. Dorothea Lynde Dix, a famous
Civil War nurse made a difference in this world by traveling around the world to give back and
help the ill and imprisoned. She gave them better lives as well as taking a stand for women to be
able to help the wounded in the Civil War. Dorothea Diximpacted the world by changing
perceptions on mentally ill and prisoners. She gave them a fair chance to live a satisfying life by
being a huge part of creating dozens of new institutions across the United States and in Europe.
Dorothea Dix started her change in the world when she was younger by becoming a teacher. In
1821 Dix opened an academy for wealthy young ladies in her grandmother s house, and conducted
a free school for poor children. Her contagious joy in teaching made her schools highly successful.

The Most Common Motivational Management Theories
Motivational management seems straightforward at first, until you take into consideration all the
different elements that encompass a successful business. In order to keep a company in the
forefront of its market as well as retaining quality employees, managers need to be aware of all
these elements. They range from the sociological, demographic, economic and psychological state
of the community or individual at a point in time. That is to say that what motivated employees in
the early 20th century does not necessarily motivate them in the 21st century. For a manager to
create a work environment that is conducive to success it is necessary to learn all of the different
theories that surround the skill of motivating employees. It is also necessary to stay in contact with
the current social and economic conditions of the individuals that one manages. We will review the
most common motivational management theories that date back from the 1940 s and review how
they can still apply today. One might think that with the global market, telecommuting and the e
leaders coming of age that these theories may not apply anymore. Application of these theories
with e leaders is proving, thus far, to be successful. Let s begin by looking at the four main
perspectives, each containing its own set of theories: 1) Content emphasizes the needs that
motivate workers 2) Process thoughts by which people decide how to act 3) Design division of
work and application of motivational

The City And Parts Of The Soul
Another premise is how justice is a craft with a particular function. All conventional items that
human beings use have a purpose otherwise its useless. Even the most ridiculous products sold on
infomercials are designed for a specific purpose. Although products being sold on infomercials are
ridiculous for being invented with a purpose in mind, but do not function well and generally make
the user of the product look foolish. Like conventional items justicehas a function. However it is
important that a thing s function is the work that it alone can do, or can do better than anyone else
(I. 353a). Basically, Platois assuming that we, human beings are dependent on each other and
working together will create a more sustainable society for all. It makes sense for every
individual to specialize in a task and can trade goods or services with one another. Plato further
applies this concept to his analogy of the city and parts of the soul.
In the creation of a city, and for the soul to be justice it has a particular hierarchical formation.
For building the ideal city, Socrates divides people into three types of classes: the ruling class, the
auxiliary or warrior class and the producer class of merchants and artisans. Each class corresponds
with a virtue and depending on a person s virtue is where a person will end up. The virtues are
wisdom for the ruling, courage for the warriors and moderation for the working class. In addition,

Matthew And Quran Essay
The Gospel of Matthew and the Qur an describe Jesus in similar ways, but also in many different
ways. When talking about Jesus, the Qur an describes him as a prophet. what was given to Moses
and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any
of them... (2:136). Jesusis just like any other prophet. There s nothing extra special about him. He
even gets compared to the other prophets who are killed by Israel.
But is it [not] that every time a messenger came to you, [O Children of Israel]... you denied and
another party you killed (2:87). In contrast, while the Qur an denies Jesus of any special status,

First, Jesus did big miracles, even in the Qur an. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give
life to the dead (3:49). The Qur an doesn t go into detail of what Jesus did, but the Bible does.
Matthew 9 alone, is full of so many miracles that Jesus performed. In Matthew 9, he heals a
paralyzed man, heals a sick woman, raises a girl from the dead, heals two blind men, and casts
demons out of a possessed man. Another similarity is Jesus being the light in the world. The
Qur an talks about how he was sent down to mankind a light (4:124) and it doesn t specifically
say Jesus was the light in Matthew, but it does say that at one point his face shined like the sun
and his clothes became white as light (Matthew 17:2). The only other light that Matthew talks
about is in Jesus sermon on the Mount, he preaches about how the people are the light of the
world (Matthew 5:14 16). Now, Jesus does claim to be the light of the world in John 8 and 9,
which could be where the writer of the Qur an got this idea from since Islam is younger Christianity

There are many types of eating disorders but the one of the most commonly known one are
anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. People who suffer from anorexia are underweight due to
deprivation of food and people who suffer from bulimia eat excessive amounts of food then purge
all of that food via self induced vomitingor laxatives. Sufferers from anorexia and bulimia
experience emotional and physical problems which can lead to a detriment to their health.
Though both diseases are different, sufferers of anorexia and bulimia both have low self esteem.
The reason why I find this disease worth looking into because the results of both of these diseases
can be be highly dangerous; either leaving permanent damage to the body or damages that are
difficult to reverse. Self starvation slows down metabolism and people who are suffering from
anorexia are unable to function. Muscle is lost due to the lack of nutrients that sufferers are not

Bulimics binge on excessive amounts of food then purge them via self induced vomiting or

diseases can cause permanent damage to the body internally and externally. I think it is
important to know about the medical problems that both of these diseases can cause because the
damage can be fatal. I feel like it is not worth skipping meals to go to the gym or throwing up

Elizabethan Era Beauty
Beauty in the Elizabethan Era and Much Ado About Nothing Throughout history, literature has
been a way for people to expand their viewpoint and appreciate the world around them through
different cultures and traditions presented in a story. C. S. Lewis explains that through literature;
We seek an enlargement of our being. We want to be more than ourselves (137). This explains that
through literature, people learn lessons and read because they want to learn from these lessons and
better themselves. Many influential writers throughout history have brought different ideas and
lessons that have helped shape the society we know today. One writer who has had a tremendous
impact on society is William Shakespeare. Shakespeare s works are still well read and can be
related to today even though the Elizabethan Erain which he lived in is different from the culture
of the modern world. However, the Elizabethan Era still has aspects of its society that can
resonate with that of the modern day. One of those aspects is the stereotypes that women were
faced with during the Elizabethan Era. The Elizabethan Era was a time of social reform for
women. Though women became more educated and seen in a different light than what they were
used to, the era in no way brought them to the equivalence of a women in today s society. Women
were still seen as inferior by men and men still believed they were the greatest creation in the world.

Throughout history, vampirism and werewolfism have been the basis of most horror stories but
some people believe they have come across these mythical creatures. An example of a werewolf
sighting is that of Lorianne Endrizzi in the autumn of 1989 in Wisconsin, USA. She was driving

Usually, the werewolf turns back into a human at sunrise, with no recall of the previous night s
actions. Lycanthropy is a clinical name given to werewolves in fiction, but is also a medical term
referring to someone who is under the influence that they are a wolf (The Brain Bank North West
2012).
Some medical theories concerning the origin of werewolves are based around porphyria which is
a disease that effects the skin and nervous system, the same disease linked to the vampire myth.
Some victims of porphyria display the fang canine look caused by the corrosion of the gums.
Furthermore, following exposure to light, the healing blisters on the skin often grow a thin layer of

Wolves are carriers of the lupine parvovirus (LPV), and it is suggested that the virus is responsible
for lycanthropy. LPV infected wolves are resistant to environmental trauma, including digestive
enzymes, making it much easier to spread through contaminated food and water sources. Wolves
infect humans through biting and after infection, there is a period of high fever, chills and other flu

Homosexuality Is Unnatural
I will argue in support of the statement that homosexuality is not unnatural in any morally
objectionable way. My argument will be backed by evidence and support by John Corvino. With aid
from Burton Leiser, a professor of philosophy at Pace University, Corvino examines several possible
interpretations of the term unnatural to acknowledge and negate different arguments commonly
posed against homosexuality. The five meanings of the term unnatural that Corvino investigates are
what is unusual or abnormal is unnatural, what is not practiced by other animals is unnatural, what
does not proceed from innate desires is unnatural, what violates an organ s principle purpose is
unnatural, and what is disgusting or offensive is unnatural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This idea possibly stems from the common belief that homosexual sex does not result in procreation
(Corvino 6). This proposition assumes that a human s organs each have a singular, principle
purpose for human survival. To counter this premise, Leiser points out that the primary function of
an organ may easily vary upon the owner s needs and desires (Gruen and Panichas 50). Corvino s
perfect example of an organ with multiple purposes is the mouth. A human s mouth is used for
many different functions; eating, breathing, speaking, laughing, and kissing. Another good example
is the human ears they were not intended to hold up glasses, yet they serve to do so anyway, despite
not being their primary function. Corvino also mentions that while someone may go through a list
of an organ s multiple functions and state that some are unnatural but not immoral, they have not
made a clear enough definition of the term natural for this argument (6). It could be said that while
sexual organs can be used for procreation, they can also be used for pleasure, expressing love and
desire, and enhancing an established relationship. Those who agree with this argument and believe
that procreation is the primary, natural purpose of sexual organs should also be against
contraception and masturbation, as these do not factor into procreation, deeming them, by their own

Designated Hitter
Do you prefer a bases loaded double that clears the bases and involves an exciting play at home

defense stands around with dazed looks on their faces? Do you prefer stolen bases, squeeze plays,
and trying to move the base runners to make something happen; as opposed to a team waiting for
someone to hit a homerun? If you answered yes then consider yourself a fan of small ball. The

George Brett, Carl Yastrzemski, Paul Moliter, Dave Winfield, Joe Carter, and Eddie Murray
were all able to extend their careers as designated hitters. This affects the way players are inducted
into the hall of fame. A player with declining physical abilities in the National League will simply
be put on the bench and become a substitute. While in the American League, that same player
could keep getting the same number of at bats by being switched to the Designated Hitter. As a
result, American League players are being inducted into the hall of fame more often because their
statistics are aided by the DH rule. American League Pitchers can go deeper into games because
they don t need to be lifted for a pinch hitter. American League pitchers can concentrate on just
pitching; they don t have to go to the plate and bat. They may be more likely to intimidate opposing
batters by aggressively pitching inside and even hit batters without fear of being thrown at
themselves, knowing that they personally will not have to enter the batter s box and deal with
possible retaliation from the opposing pitcher.
The National League has its own advantages because of its lack of a Designated Hitter. Some

Hate Speech Should Be Banned Essay
In order to reduce the astonishing number of hate crimes in the United States, the Federal
Government should restrict hate speech, and the expressions of hateful ideas, in all its forms, in all
places, both public and private. However, it is imperative that hate speech be defined first.
Contrary to some opinions, it is possible to accurately define hate speech, because hate speech does
not actually have many elusive forms. Hate speech includes fighting words as defined in
Chaplinsky vs. New Hampshire, and words that incite violence or aggression towards a specific
group based on sex, sexual orientation, race, creed, or political orientation by the provision of

In order to resolve the issues of hate speech, one should address the necessary balance between
personal liberties and public safety. However, some restrictions must be placed on hate speech,
including the expression of hateful ideas. It is imperative that hate speech is limited in some
cases, such as those where it could pose a serious threat to the surrounding environment. The only
way hate speech can be controlled is with strict guidelines and probable hate speech situations left
up to a case by case basis.
The Federal Government should restrict hate speech on all college campuses. This is due to a
variety of reasons. Under the first point of analysis, one can observe that hate speech codes have a
tendency to foster a more tolerant environment by teaching a difference between right and wrong
(Sommers 1). Often times, college students do not realize the impact that their words may have on
others (2). The problem is rarely identified in primary and secondary schools, and it worsens as the
students approach the college level (1).
Additionally, the problem of morally confused college students can inhibit education. This is
especially true when words are integrated into speech that have a significant meaning to one
person, but not another (Dalton 2). For example, many people use the word nigger profusely.
However, too many of them do not realize that some words carry with them a history of malignant
oppression (2). There are a

Computer Is A For Home Education Essay
The word computer brings to mind the machines we have at home, that we use every day in one
way or form. In reality the term computer is a large umbrella that covers a myriad of machines.
Microcomputers:
The term microcomputer is generally synonymous with personal computer (PC), or a computer that
depends on a microprocessor. Microcomputers are designed to be used by individuals, whether in
the form of PCs, workstations or notebook computers. A microcomputer contains a central

problems on the basis of involving states interests. In other words, states utilize community of

a global trend in world politics is the spectacular growth of IGOs. The European Union, as an

abolition of slavery did not abolish the misfortune of black and white North Carolinians alike
before 1900. Racism was still very much alive, blacks did not enjoy the rights they supposedly
acquired after the war, the same rich families from before the war were still rich, and the people
that were poor before the war were still struggling.
The New South mentality attempted to modernize North Carolina s previously agrarian economy
through industrialization. Businessmen, such as Richard J. Reynolds, strategically erected
factories in North Carolina for access to its prestigious railroads to swiftly transport their
products. Factory owners had no trouble finding employees, as many North Carolinians were
eager to avoid the hardships of farm labor. Towns began to rise around the factories after the
influx of laborers came about. Such a plethora of potential workers allowed factory owners to pay
their employees drastically low wages as they reaped the benefits of cheap labor. Low wages
combined with pitiful working conditions resulted in these factory towns resembling life on slave
plantations before the war.
North Carolina tobacco factories manufactured and sold such high volumes of tobacco products
world wide that they became the face of the industry. For example, a Bull Durham smoking

Disadvantages Of Conflict
Conflicts and arguments are part of our daily lives and we deal with them in our own ways.
Usually conflicts arise between two or more individuals, organizations or even nations and the
scope of every conflict is to find a solution to the disagreement that was created between the parties.
Each disagreement may have a different nature, even if it is personal, financial or political there
must be a solution.
The most common way to deal with conflict is to avoid it, some individuals leave the discussion,
and some get angry and upset, actually it may amaze you what people would do in order to avoid
a conflict. Denial is one of the most common issues when we talk about resolving a conflict.

occurrence which can eventually help in personal growth or developing your relationships with
others. In addition, coming up with adjustments is necessary for managing this type of conflict.

British Independence
When Britain first created the colonies, they thought they had really done something and that
the colonies would forever be ruled by them. Although this sounded good to both the colonies
and Britain at first, the Continentals soon changed their minds. The colonists broke away from
British rule mainly because of implementation of the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Tea Act, and the
Intolerable Acts; all of which were imposed by Parliament. In 1776, Parliament passed the Sugar
Act. The act increased the prices on all sugars that the colonies used. The profits from it went
directly to Britain to pay for the French and Indian War debt. This upset the colonists because
they were previously told that they would not have to pay for any of the war, then the King of
England imposed this tax on them anyway. This began the colonists anger toward Britain. The
Stamp Act was passed in 1765, it required the colonists to pay a tax on any printed paper goods
that they used, and they had to have a stamp on them proving that the tax was paid. This was the
first direct tax imposed on individual colonists. All of the proceeds went toward British soldiers,
which did not benefit the colonists at all. The Sons of Liberty protested some but it did little to no
good to sway Parliament. Eventually the colonies boycotted all British goods which pushed
Parliament to repeal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of damage when they set their minds to it. The Boston Tea Partywas a direct response to the Tea
Act; it was another way that the colonists showed that they opposed

Organizational Effectiveness Of An Organization
Organizational effectiveness is the concept of how effective an organization is in achieving the
outcomes the organization intends to produce. Organizational effectiveness groups in organizations
directly concern themselves with several key areas. Leadership, decision making and structure,
people, and cultures are just a few of several key areas. Leadershipconsist of self and crew
understanding of a clear vision, sharing that vision with others so that they will follow willingly,
providing the information, knowledge and methods to realize that vision, and coordinating and
balancing the conflicting interests of all members and stakeholders. A leader steps up in times of
chaos, and is able to think and act effectively in difficult... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Decision and structure has to have clear roles and accountability for decisions, also needs
organizational structure that supports objectives.
Nonprofits appear to attract good talent and do a remarkable job at placing the right people in the
right places. On the contrary, these employees (the people) do not feel that their work is well
aligned to the priorities of the organization. Organizations on average have a hard time evaluating,
developing, and rewarding staff consistent with the organizations priorities. This not being
surprising at all, given leadership scores on setting and communicating priorities. Communication is
extremely important for the success of an organization. A majority of bosses communicate far too
little amongst their organization. It is tough for busy business owners and executives to keep their
employees up to date on the latest organizational news, which is understandable. This is why
organizations have management teams. Regardless, you should do everything is your power to
get employees the information they need to do their jobs effectively, quickly and efficiently.
Make time for employees. When an employee needs to talk with you, whatever the situation may
be, make sure that you set aside the time to do so. Lastly, recognize their achievements. Every
employee want to do a good job while on the job and love to be recognized when they do, prizes

Castles of the Welsh Princes and Gaelic Irish Lords Essay...
The high medieval Welsh princes and Gaelic Irish lords are comparable in several ways. Both
had to contend with the ever growing presence of the Anglo Normans and were able to maintain
some form of native rule throughout the period ( Gaelic lordly settlement 209). Furthermore,
castles played a significant role in the proceedings whether built or captured and whether they
were of native origins or Anglo Norman. This can be attributed to their capabilities of withstanding
various scales of warfare and being one of the means of displaying lordly rank ( Settlement and
Society 97). However, the functions, characteristics, and prevalence of castles are not necessarily
uniform across the three groups. Using the historical and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, the building styles of Welsh castles bear marked similarities to their Anglo Norman
counterparts. (Davis 7) This resemblance, a scarcity of historical records from the Welsh, and the
frequency with which the castles would change ownership make identifying sites built or occupied
by the native Welsh problematic (30). This is compounded by multiple construction phases that
would frequently, but not always, accompany changes in ownership and complicate the
archaeological evidence. For example, Denbigh Castle in Gwynedd was originally a native castle
that housed Llwelyn the Great and his grandson Dafydd ap Gruffudd, but its physical
characteristics are lost to history due to the only remains belonging to a later castle built by Earl
Henry de Lacy in 1282 (Davis 52). The remains of Welsh earthwork castles are considered to be
indistinguishable from Anglo Norman. As a result, only 8.5% of the remaining castles accounted
for in Wales, thirty six of the four hundred and twenty seven, are attributed to the Welsh. However,
this percentage is not thought to reflect the totality of Welsh castles. (Chateau Gaillard 11)
The start of Welsh castle building correspondingly occurs after 1066. Welshpool in Powys is the
first castle recorded to have been built by the Welsh nobility. This would have presumably been
accomplished after Cadwgan ap Bleddyn took over the region in

Racism In Social Work
The American Ideal of Looksism is what society says we are supposed to look like, the white
Anglo Saxon Protestant ideal (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 14). An example of this is the Barbie doll.
She is tall, skinny, white, blonde hair and blue eyed. This is the doll that little girls grow up
wanting to look like because society is teaching them that this is the ideal. Otherism is the use of
stereotypes to objectify those who are different from us (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 15). If someone
does not fit the ideal they are considered not normal or bad. An example of this is objectifying a
whole race; by saying the Mexicans are stealing White jobs. While this is untrue, the Mexican
heritage is different from the white Anglo Saxon ideals, so some see it as bad and are threatened
by it, thus creating this racist stereotype.
The practice of social work has evolved from three major movements, The Charity Organizations,
Settlement Houses, and Child Saving Movements. Charity organization societies were
developed by philanthropists to regulate the use of charitable agencies by the poor (pg. 52).
This society was organized to assist the needy, but also to ensure that they only received help
from one charity. There is a stigma that people should not be helped too much or they will
become reliant on the assistance of the government. Our role as a social worker is to make sure
that people are getting as much assistance as they need. Some people have no choice and do have
to rely on

Slow growth for Internet Based retailing
The growth of online retailing is quite slow in United States of America as compare to European
countries. There are very limited online services have been adopted by retailers in United States
of America. The big retailers of country have given just one option to their customer is that just
buy products online but pick yourself from your selected store. Such services are available on
sites of Wal Mart, Delhaize and Meijer etc. The main reason of having slow growth of online
retailers is the delivery cost of groceries items and limited areas of delivery. There are two
famous online retailers, Peapod and Fresh Direct. They have expanded their delivery areas. The
management of Peapod is planning to provide their services of smartphones and social media
sites by developing unique app. The business of online retailing can be expanded if they target
young population of country who are more familiar with technology on daily basis as compare to
their elders. There are five areas where Convenient Grocery Stores can bring change in online retail

Taking a Look at Nike Inc.
Brief Overview Nike, Inc. is a multinational corporation that designs, develops, markets, and sells
athletic footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessories for a variety of sports and fitness
activities. In 1964, it started its empire as a company that distributed Japanese running shoes,
Tiger, in the United States with the name Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. Nike founders Bill
Bowerman and Phil Knight had a great coach student relationship when both were still at
University of Oregon; Bowerman was Knight s coach seeking a better running shoe and Knight
loved athletics so much that he could not live without it. This friendship led to the existence of
Blue Ribbon Sports. After the success of selling Tiger shoes, the company renamed itself Nike
in 1971. Nike is actually the name of the winged Greek goddess of victory and the SWOOSH
logo represents her wing. Carolyn Davidson, who was Knight s student at Portland State
University, designed and trademarked the logo in 1971. They introduced the Just Do It slogan in
1988 and that immediately boosted Nike into a sports supplier powerhouse. It surged the market
share from 18% to 43% in 1988. The slogan inspires consumers to push beyond limits and strive
to achieve new goals. Nike has become the number one sporting brand in the world, netting in
revenue of $25.3 billion in 2013. Nike, Inc. wholly owns the following seven footwear and apparel

Watergate Scandal In The 1970 s
In the 1970 s, America not only witnessed the worst political scandal of the twentieth century, but
also one of the most successful acts of investigative journalism to ever be done in America. The
Watergate Scandal included a series of illegal activities initiated by members of President Nixon s
administration, the most significant crime being the break in and wiretapping of the Democratic
National Committee headquarters in 1972. CREEP (Committee to Reelect the President) funded
these illegal projects by hiring people like the White House Plumbers to carry on missions to stop
the leaking of classified information. The Watergate Scandals origins lay in the Fielding and DNC

This testimony led to the fight for the tape recordings from the House Judiciary Committee, the
House believed that these could help uncover his role in the Watergate Scandal. The public was
having an increase in suspicion of Nixon because of his vigorous effort to defend the tapes.
After the Supreme Court s rejection of Nixon s executive privilege, there were over 700 white
house files, 19 presidential conversations, and over 42 additional tapes taken, but the biggest
suspicion was the eighteen and a half minute silent gap in a conversation with Mr.Haldeman in
1972. Nixon later in court lies about the $25,000 check given to Bernard Barker, saying that he is
probably a bum and definitely did not receive the money from CREEP, even though the check was
directly traceable to the committee. On May 10, 1989 the House of Representatives adopted 3
Articles of impeachment for high crimes and misdemeanors, with the first two articles charging
Nixon with giving false testimony before the grand jury and the third article with bringing
disrepute on the Federal judiciary. These charges placed on the highest position in American
society is disastrous and leads to a distrust in government within the American people. The fact that
Nixon was granted a full pardon and was acquitted of all of the charges makes Americans lose hope

Similarities And Differences Between Mesopotamia And...
Civilizations are radical states of human society that include a high level of culture, morals,
knowledge, manufacturing, and government. Mesopotamia was one of the most astounding
civilizations that anyone discovered. The location of this nation fell right in between the Tigris
and Euphrates Rivers, where modern day Iraq is located. It was positioned right along the fertile
crescent . Because of this, the soil was very rich which caused great agriculture. It was one of the
first cultivations to roam the earth. Mesopotamiahad many phases, which included the Ubaid,
Uruk, Jemdat Nasr, Early Dynastic, Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian period. Every
stage had their own unique trait. Something new and exciting happened for each era. During
4300 BCE, the late Ubaid period in Mesopotamia began. Many events and actions took place
during this time. Mesopotamia was an outstanding region and contained many treasures,
including pottery, inventions, architecture, and Ziggurats. Civilizations are created and formed

What Is The Reflection Of College Writing
Coming to college from a small all girls Catholic high school, I had two years of Advanced
Placement English classes under my belt and was more than confident in my ability to produce an
organized and well written paper in a timely manner. It was not until I was given the prompt for our
first paper in this course that I realized that the college writingprocess would not be as fearless as I
had originally anticipated. Even if I was writing like a college student in high school, I was
incapable of freely thinking like one. During those four years, I constantly had religion based
conservative beliefs and strong yet reserved feminist ideas engraved in my very being. Plain to
say, when it came time to pick the topic of my first college essay, I found that I was only
comfortable writing what I was told. I had lost the ability to think for myself and found myself
afraid to express my ideas freely. However, throughout the duration of this semester, I have found a
voice that is purely my own and have been able to express my thoughts without hesitation. In our
first paperof the semester, we were asked to develop an original and interesting claim in response
to the ideas of authors in response to another s work. The secondary essay that stuck out to me the
most was Douglas L. Peterson s Wisdom Consumed in Confident : An Examination of Shakespeare
s Julius Caesar, which calls into question Julius Caesar s importance in his namesake play. I was
not sure at the time why this one

Cincinnati, Ohio in 1867 and was the first African American to receive a Ph.D in zoology from the

focused and talented in his studies. After getting his bachelor s degree in 1891 and his master a

  • 2. ‘The value of objective and subjective evidence in... The value of objective and subjective evidence in understanding mental health conditions It is important to consider both subjective and objective evidences to gain a comprehensive picture of any mental health condition. I am going to demonstrate through examples how parallel considerations can be used by clinicians to gain a full understanding of mental health disorders. Subjective evidence is how the patient interprets the working of his own mind. It includes what he reports about his thoughts and feelings including any uncomfortable sensations or distressing thoughts. Objective evidence on the other hand is measurable. It comprises of any signs of the illness that can be observed by a third person and any abnormality that has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He takes into consideration not only the patient s mental state but also the patient s general physical health, psychosocial or environmental problems, their ability to integrate into society and take care of themselves. Subjective evidence includes the thoughts and feelings of the patient. It comprises of the symptoms the patient is reporting and the level of distress he is experiencing. A patient suffering from depression for example might report symptoms of having dark thoughts, feeling blue, can complain of persistent low mood, outbursts of crying, decreased appetite and activity levels, lack of sleep. These are all examples of subjective evidence. Objective evidence about the condition includes any signs noticeable to the clinician that can be taken as an indication of mental disease. This can include slumped posture, poor hygiene, scruffy appearance, sadness, crying, sighing or pacing. Lack of appetite can be a symptom a depressed person is complaining about, while the amount of weight loss is measurable and objective. Aches, pains and flulike symptoms may not have any biological basis in the body but can be psychosomatic manifestations of the depression. Moreover depression usually accompanies many severe, long term conditions. During the psychological assessment the clinician gathers all information about a patient s medical health and mental health history, collects information from immediate family members, looks ... • 3. Socio-Emotional Development Physical, Cognitive, and Socio Emotional developments are ones that every growing individual goes through. The EDC 307 course specifically focuses on these developments in middle childhood and adolescence. This course has taught me an enormous amount about each of those stages. I learned that in middle childhood, cognitive development entails changes in self concept, the child relates their real self to an ideal self that they created. However, in adolescencethe cognitive changes are centered around egocentrism and abstract thinking. As for physical development, in middle childhood the changes are few, slow, and regular. Puberty is the most significant physical change that happens during adolescence, ad it happens fast and suddenly . Socio emotional development concerns social behaviors with peers and loved ones. During middle childhood, kids normally judge themselves based on the opinions of their peers, parents, and teachers. I found out that this differs in adolescence in that teenagers try to find their real identity regardless of opinions. Although I mentioned a few things that I learned in this course, it is only a small percentage of all that I have actually acquired. Moving on in my life, this information will be a great beneficial factor not only in my career, but in my personal life as well. If I end up working with kids, it will help me better understand them and, in turn, communicate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Stylistic Devices In The Kite Runner Analysis of The Kite Runner The book: The Kite Runner , (2003) by Khaled Hosseini, describes the life of Amir, whose experience of growing up parallels the developments in his home country: Afghanistan. These similarities are reflected in the bildungsroman through a variety of symbols and stylistic devices. Specifically, the use of invective language Amir calling his half brother a Hazaara boy (Hosseini, 2003, p. 275) and the Taliban glorifying their crimes as ethnic cleansing (Hosseini, 2003, p. 261) reveals a long standing history racism in society. In other words, the prominence of discrimination in daily life is displayed through the clash between social classes on both a personal and a cultural level. In my opinion, the embodiment ... • 5. Dancing Is A Language And Physical And Mental Skills Dancing is a language, one anyone can read; however, the skill lies not in the ability to read, but in the passion to write. When people hear the word dance, more specifically ballet, they associate it with a stereotypical image of young girls prancing around in tutus, however, ballet goes beyond the scope society has set for it. Most individuals don t fully comprehend that balletis a literacy practice with various skill sets. In Barton and Hamilton s Literary Practice they define a literacy practice as what people do with the literacy (3). To be a ballerina you have to be well versed in an assortment of instruction; from body, to technique, to language, to musicality, etc., ballet is a literacy practice that recognizes the extensive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The body itself is the main artifact or text that needs to be understood. The ballet is not just a manner of linguistics, but the most classical branch of the language of dance, equivalent to the written and spoken language of poetry. The beauty of ballet is that it can capture an audience and tell a story simply through the movement of the body. John McConnell describes dance in his book, Ballet as Body Language, as a series of connected, meaningful movements which externalize inner feelings (1). They are storytellers who tell their stories through their body. Its refinement, grace and fortitude can be used to propel powerful messages in captivating ways that both the dancer and audience can relate to and understand. However, to be a ballerina and tell a story, you must have the ideal body to do so. A ballet physique is by no means perfect and indisputably not natural, but fostered for a specific practice that supports an undeniable regarded structure. Technically, balletic movement aims for weightlessness in the lifting of individuals or limbs, in jumps or leaps, and in creating clean lines. These specific necessities require an understanding for the body. In order to understand ones body, a ballerina must be educated, to a degree, in kinesiology (the scientific study of human movement). In this essay we will try to compare the Marxists and the Elitists views of political power and what makes these views different. Before we start analyzing it should be remarked that the Elitists approach is closely connected to the works and ideas of Gaetano Mosca, Roberts Michels and C. Wright Mills and the founder of such an approach to studying political power (W. Pareto), who opposed his ideas to those of Marx and Gramsci. Therefore, there is a conflict of ideas, which is to be unveiled in this essay. Firstly, Marxists approach to political power is to be briefly overviewed. The cornerstone of all Marx s work is the base superstructure model every aspect of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea reminds of the Nietzsche s Ubermensch, who is the one to power the others. The similarity of these ideas lies in the fact that in Elitist s theory they assume that all people are not created equal: some are stronger, more intelligent, more artistic, etc. Of course, not all abilities lead to economic wealth or political power however, those people who have the most of the particular abilities which a society rewards become the political elite. Here we can draw a line to cross out Marx s idea that people are born equal and the only thing that makes them different is being attributed to certain social class and therefore, there personal characteristics defer the social structure the economic structure. Another Elitist Gaetano Mosca proposed the idea that there is a ruling elite, so called Classe Politica (political elite) and Social forces those social and economic categories on whom the society depends on because of their particular abilities. In other words, not the whole layer of elite actually rules political power is the representative one social forces have a major influence in them. Moreover, political elite are also the representatives of the masses all elites stabilize their rule by making it acceptable to the masses. This is achieved by political formula , e.g.: ... • 7. Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel INTRODUCTION BIOGRAPHY Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel are considered possibly the most important female figures of the Romantic Era. Both women were friends living with the struggles of trying to make a name for themselves as musicians and composers while living in the shadows of their famous male family members: Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn. Clara Schumann Clara Josephine Wieck was born on September 13, 1819 in Leipzig, Germany into a musical family. Her father, Friedrich Wieck, was a first rate piano teacher. Her mother, Marianne Tromlitz, was a soprano and one of Wieck s piano students. Clara Wieck s parents divorced when she was five years old, leaving her and her four brothers in her father s custody. Tromlitz married Adolf Bargiel and moved to Berlin, but she still kept in contact with Clara through letters. In 1824, rather than learning the alphabet or her numbers, Clara started studying piano, violin, singing, music theory, harmony, composition, and counterpoint primarily under the instruction of her father. There was no subduing his determination to give a full trial to his method of teaching to apply it at long range, reaching down into the infancy of his pupil, building thoroughly, broadly, greatly. He would mold the daughter of his own blood, step by step, without fear of interference. The success of the plan could make him the first teacher in Europe. She soon became her father s star pupil. • 8. Music Paper Chapter 1 I.INTRODUCTION I went to a concert held at Carnegie Hall in New York, New York, on Sunday, February 14, 2016. The concert was performed by The Cleveland Orchestra. It was an all Mozart program conducted by Mitsuko Uchida. The concert performed 3 pieces of Mozart s work: Piano Concerto No. 17, Symphony No. 34 and Piano Concerto No. 25. I chose to focus on the last piece played in the concert Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major, K. 503. II.BACKGROUND OF COMPOSITION The work is a concerto completed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on December 4, 1786, and it is the last of the twelve great piano concertos written in Vienna between 1784 and 1786. The concerto is one of Mozart s longest with a duration of about 33 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The orchestral sound felt liquid in nuance and Uchida balanced them with every phrase of her performance. With the piano leading, the Cleveland Orchestra followed with the taste, vitality and elegancy of Mozart and played with the charm through its delightful melodies and engaging writing. I can especially sense the accents of trumpets and drums and enjoy how they brought a regal splendor into the outer movements of the concerto. In the sway of her body, I was impressed by Uchida s passion for her instrument; through her strokes of the keys, I understood her fervor about Mozart s music. I can also feel a touching tenderness in Uchida s rendition of Mozart, manifesting her love for the music. V.CONCLUSION Overwhelmingly beautiful is the description I would give to this enjoyable concert. When this team of professionals, which includes a pianist, conductor and orchestra performed together, all three were fully engaged in making the whole concert elegant. Even without professional music appreciation knowledge, I still find Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major, K. 503 embodies all that is elegant about Mozart s sublime concerti and delivers very articulate understanding of Mozart s spirit in music. The impersonal imagination and artistic delight brought by music is the most precious legacy left for us by the great musicians like Mozart. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Relationship With A Woman I was 50 years old and hadn t been to bed with a woman for four years. I had no women friends. I looked at them as I passed them on the streets or wherever I saw them, but I looked at them without yearning and with a sense of futility. I masturbated regularly, but the idea of having a relationship with a woman even on non sexual terms was beyond my imagination. I had a 6 year old daughter born out of wedlock. She lived with her mother and I paid child support. I had been married years before at the age of 35. That marriage lasted two and one half years. My wife divorced me. I had been in love only once. She had died of acute alcoholism. She died at 48 when I was 38. My wife had been 12 years younger than I. I believe that she too is dead now, although I m not sure. She wrote me a long letter each Christmas for 6 years after the divorce. I never responded. . . . I m not sure when I first saw Lydia Vance. It was about 6 years ago and I had just quit a twelve year job as a postal clerk and was trying to be a writer. I was terrified and drank more than ever. I was attempting my first novel. I drank a pint of whiskey and two six packs of beer each night while writing. I smoked cheap cigars and typed and drank and listened to classical music on the radio until dawn. I set a goal of ten pages a night but I never knew until the next day how many pages I had written. • 11. Racial Stereotyping Of African Americans Essay Introduction What does it mean to be stereotyped? The definition of stereotype is Stereotyping may be defined as the tendency to attribute generalized and simplified characteristics to groups of people in the form of verbal labels, and to act towards the members of those groups in terms of those labels (Kanahara, 2006) When asked to pick a topic and do a research study, I decided that the topic of racial stereotyping would be efficient. As I began to watch movies I started to see a trend. I saw African Americans being portrayed as being violent, uneducated, and ghetto. European Americans were portrayed as being self absorbed, materialistic, and privileged. What I want to know is if different races are being stereotyped in media for the sake of entertainment. Over time it seemed like the media would perceive African Americans as thugs. Not only were African American s stereotyped as thugs, but they re also seen as being ghetto. African American s are not the only ones stereotyped, but so are Hispanics and Asians. Hispanics in media are portrayed as being illegal immigrants, uneducated, and housekeepers. Asians are portrayed as foreigners, geeks, and kung fu fighters. There are approximately 630 visual effects shots in the film that had to be shot individual shots in order to capture the proper theme of the storyline. Technical advancements were made in environments, lighting, and simulation of physical effects and integration of CG characters in a real environment. This movie was a true success through the use of well known actors, and by using proper voice over acting throughout this film. Actors such as Tyrese Gibson (SGT Epps), Magan Fox (Mikaela Banes), and John Keller (John Turturro) just to name a few of the actors that made this movie a huge success. The reason acting played a significant role in the accomplishment of this movie was because they had to act without having the most significant actors being present, the Transformers themselves. What do these fairy tales tell me about me and about others? If I am not in the picture at all, what does this mean? (Hurley, 228). Over many years, Disney princesses have developed into something that little girls admire. With this, Disney only producing one race is quite limiting to say the least. As a globally dominant producer of cultural constructs related to gender, race, ethnicity, class and sexuality, Disney reigns supreme, and part of that supreme reign is an unquestionable privileging of patriarchy and whiteness (Lester 294). However, recent Disney films similar to Princess and the Frog have impacted this generation by breaking past racial barriers and influencing the upcoming children. INTRODUCTION The changing role of law and the need to relate with a transforming society and its citizens has led to a demand on decision making in political systems (Bijsterveld 2010). Due to the variance in the decision making of these systems, interest groups carry out their public affairs (PA) activities in a plethora of ways (Baumgartner 2007) as features such as type of political system, structure, accountability, dependency on interest groups, etcetera influence PA practices. PA is however carried out in an unbiased and harmonious way as lobbyists work hand in hand with EU officials (Woll 2006, Mahoney 2008) and other interest groups, as the EU would rather grant access to a Europeanized voice when addressing issues. With regards to choice of policies to influence, interest groups in the US are more focused on influencing legislative matters rather than regulatory policies (Baumgartner 2007, Mahoney 2008) as they seeks to influence the decisions of the congress, the court or the administrative government (Hansford 2004). The EU is a regulatory regime, therefore, organized interest groups particularly business interests prefer to lobby regulatory processes to secure their individual and collective business interests (Levy and Prakash 2003). This is done because regulatory processes affect businesses and more often than not have policy outcomes (Baumgartner 2007). The level of dependence on organized civil societies (OCS) is another feature that influences the practice of PA. EU s dependence on OCS arises from their lack of resources both financial and human, to carry out their activities. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This idea possibly stems from the common belief that homosexual sex does not result in procreation (Corvino 6). This proposition assumes that a human s organs each have a singular, principle purpose for human survival. To counter this premise, Leiser points out that the primary function of an organ may easily vary upon the owner s needs and desires (Gruen and Panichas 50). Corvino s perfect example of an organ with multiple purposes is the mouth. A human s mouth is used for many different functions; eating, breathing, speaking, laughing, and kissing. Another good example is the human ears they were not intended to hold up glasses, yet they serve to do so anyway, despite not being their primary function. Corvino also mentions that while someone may go through a list of an organ s multiple functions and state that some are unnatural but not immoral, they have not made a clear enough definition of the term natural for this argument (6). It could be said that while sexual organs can be used for procreation, they can also be used for pleasure, expressing love and desire, and enhancing an established relationship. However, some restrictions must be placed on hate speech, including the expression of hateful ideas. It is imperative that hate speech is limited in some cases, such as those where it could pose a serious threat to the surrounding environment. The only way hate speech can be controlled is with strict guidelines and probable hate speech situations left up to a case by case basis. The Federal Government should restrict hate speech on all college campuses. This is due to a variety of reasons. Under the first point of analysis, one can observe that hate speech codes have a tendency to foster a more tolerant environment by teaching a difference between right and wrong (Sommers 1). Often times, college students do not realize the impact that their words may have on others (2). The problem is rarely identified in primary and secondary schools, and it worsens as the students approach the college level (1). Additionally, the problem of morally confused college students can inhibit education. This is especially true when words are integrated into speech that have a significant meaning to one person, but not another (Dalton 2). For example, many people use the word nigger profusely. The Edict of Milan allowed the tolerance of all religions, which influenced laws surrounding religion. This investigation will evaluate the following research question: To what extent did Constantine s Edict of Milan, issued in 313 C.E., affect the spread of Christianity in Rome until its collapse? The investigation will address if the Edict of Milan was a turning point for Christianity in Rome, and if it had greater impact on the Eastern or Western Roman Empire. To gather knowledge on the matter, the investigation will be relying heavily on books presenting the history of Christianity, Emperor Constantine, and The Edict of Milan itself. • 39. Post Civil War North Carolina Post Civil War North Carolina, as a part of the New South , was supposed to be an economically and morally prosperous state that was no longer reliant on slave labor. Unfortunately, the abolition of slavery did not abolish the misfortune of black and white North Carolinians alike before 1900. Racism was still very much alive, blacks did not enjoy the rights they supposedly acquired after the war, the same rich families from before the war were still rich, and the people that were poor before the war were still struggling. The New South mentality attempted to modernize North Carolina s previously agrarian economy through industrialization. Businessmen, such as Richard J. Reynolds, strategically erected factories in North Carolina for access to its prestigious railroads to swiftly transport their products. Factory owners had no trouble finding employees, as many North Carolinians were eager to avoid the hardships of farm labor. Towns began to rise around the factories after the influx of laborers came about. Such a plethora of potential workers allowed factory owners to pay their employees drastically low wages as they reaped the benefits of cheap labor. Low wages combined with pitiful working conditions resulted in these factory towns resembling life on slave plantations before the war. North Carolina tobacco factories manufactured and sold such high volumes of tobacco products world wide that they became the face of the industry. For example, a Bull Durham smoking ... • 43. British Independence When Britain first created the colonies, they thought they had really done something and that the colonies would forever be ruled by them. Although this sounded good to both the colonies and Britain at first, the Continentals soon changed their minds. The colonists broke away from British rule mainly because of implementation of the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Tea Act, and the Intolerable Acts; all of which were imposed by Parliament. In 1776, Parliament passed the Sugar Act. The act increased the prices on all sugars that the colonies used. The profits from it went directly to Britain to pay for the French and Indian War debt. This upset the colonists because they were previously told that they would not have to pay for any of the war, then the King of England imposed this tax on them anyway. This began the colonists anger toward Britain. The Stamp Act was passed in 1765, it required the colonists to pay a tax on any printed paper goods that they used, and they had to have a stamp on them proving that the tax was paid. This was the first direct tax imposed on individual colonists. All of the proceeds went toward British soldiers, which did not benefit the colonists at all. Both had to contend with the ever growing presence of the Anglo Normans and were able to maintain some form of native rule throughout the period ( Gaelic lordly settlement 209). Furthermore, castles played a significant role in the proceedings whether built or captured and whether they were of native origins or Anglo Norman. This can be attributed to their capabilities of withstanding various scales of warfare and being one of the means of displaying lordly rank ( Settlement and Society 97). However, the functions, characteristics, and prevalence of castles are not necessarily uniform across the three groups. Using the historical and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, the building styles of Welsh castles bear marked similarities to their Anglo Norman counterparts. (Davis 7) This resemblance, a scarcity of historical records from the Welsh, and the frequency with which the castles would change ownership make identifying sites built or occupied by the native Welsh problematic (30). This is compounded by multiple construction phases that would frequently, but not always, accompany changes in ownership and complicate the archaeological evidence. For example, Denbigh Castle in Gwynedd was originally a native castle that housed Llwelyn the Great and his grandson Dafydd ap Gruffudd, but its physical characteristics are lost to history due to the only remains belonging to a later castle built by Earl Henry de Lacy in 1282 (Davis 52). The remains of Welsh earthwork castles are considered to be indistinguishable from Anglo Norman. As a result, only 8.5% of the remaining castles accounted for in Wales, thirty six of the four hundred and twenty seven, are attributed to the Welsh. However, this percentage is not thought to reflect the totality of Welsh castles. (Chateau Gaillard 11) The start of Welsh castle building correspondingly occurs after 1066. • 46. Racism In Social Work The American Ideal of Looksism is what society says we are supposed to look like, the white Anglo Saxon Protestant ideal (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 14). An example of this is the Barbie doll. She is tall, skinny, white, blonde hair and blue eyed. This is the doll that little girls grow up wanting to look like because society is teaching them that this is the ideal. Otherism is the use of stereotypes to objectify those who are different from us (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 15). If someone does not fit the ideal they are considered not normal or bad. An example of this is objectifying a whole race; by saying the Mexicans are stealing White jobs. While this is untrue, the Mexican heritage is different from the white Anglo Saxon ideals, so some see it as bad and are threatened by it, thus creating this racist stereotype. The practice of social work has evolved from three major movements, The Charity Organizations, Settlement Houses, and Child Saving Movements. Charity organization societies were developed by philanthropists to regulate the use of charitable agencies by the poor (pg. 52). This society was organized to assist the needy, but also to ensure that they only received help from one charity.
