Children Of The River Quotes
The hardest part of being an immigrant is the journey to their destination because of these reasons
which are leaving family behind and getting to their destination. Leaving family behind is hard
because most times immigrants will never see them again. Getting to their destination is hard to
because their are smugglers who swindle immigrants and leave them with no money and in the hands
of police. This piece of evidence shows how hard it is to get out of a country because sometimes part
of the immigrants family could die. In my book Children of the River the main character Sundra is
trying to take care of her aunt s baby but is struggling with it and then when she goes for milk the man
tells her If the baby dies, throw it overboard right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a better option than staying in Cambodia because than her whole family would have been
killed by the Communists. In this quote, getting out of the country was a challenge for Sundra because
she is sometimes blamed for the baby dying. Sundra s aunt was mad that Sundra threw the baby
overboard before giving it to the baby s mother Sundra s aunt. After, Sundra s aunt blames her for the
baby dying Sundra feels guilty about how she could of saved the baby. Another reason why the
biggest challenge for immigrants is the journey to America is leaving family behind. This quote is
from Shooting Kabul during this part of the story Fadi s family is trying to get out of Kabul and he
loses his sister in the crowd. This quote is when Fadi is reflecting back on how he lost his sister. His
six year old little sister had been lost because of him. Similarly, this quote and the quote from Children
of the River contrast because Fadi feels guilty for losing his sister and Sundra feels guilty for losing
her aunts baby. This is hard for Fadi because he is reflecting back throughout the book about how he
could of saved his sister in that moment. Both of these pieces of evidence show how the journey to an
immigrants destination is the hardest part of

Siddhartha By Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha Essay
In the short story Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha, the protagonist of the story was led on a
journey to reach enlightenment. Through his many realizations occurring in stages and phases,
Siddhartha experienced emotional, mental and physical changes. These stages marked the journey
Siddhartha underwent, and the destined metamorphism developed as he followed the path of
enlightenment.
In Siddhartha s first phase, Siddhartha, a wealthy Brahmin found that even though everyone loved
him, he could not bring himself joy and please himself (Hesse). This discontent was spurred by the
fact that the wise Brahmins had shared the majority and the best of their wisdom with him; yet, he was
not satisfied nor did this quench his thirst for knowledge but only fueled it (Hesse). Questions arose,
about sacrifices, happiness and Atman, did he who possessed so much wisdom live a blessed life
(Hesse)? At this moment in Siddhartha s life, he was without peace and he wanted to find answers to
these many questions. Focused and hellbent on the journey to enlightenment, Siddhartha made an
audacious decision to go to the Samanas [and] become a Samana (Hesse). Through hours of an
impasse between Siddharth and his father, his father finally agreed to let Siddhartha continue his life
journey that began with becoming a Samana. Through this phase, Siddhartha learned he was
unsatisfied with practices such as sacrificing, and that he had already achieved the wisdom obtainable

The Inner Surface Temperature Against Time And Tile Thickness
From Fig.2, it shows that the inner surface temperature against time and tile thickness. On the right
hand side, it is shown that the Forward and the Dufort Frankel method are very unstable. Both
methods had an infinite inner surface temperature at start, which is not ideal. For Backward and Crank
Nicolson methods, both of them had a smooth curve and did not have much fluctuation.
On the left hand side, it shows the temperature at the inner surface against time. Forward and Dufort
Frankel deviated very soon after the tile get heated. This time, the Backward method moved away
from the starting temperature which is a sign of unstable. Therefore, Crank Nicolson was selected to
be the most appropriate method to solve this problem.
In theory, forward differencing and Dufort Frankel methods were explicit method, and backward
differencing and Crank Nicolson were implicit methods. It was suggested that the implicit method was
more stable than the explicit as it solved the equation involving both the current state and the next step
rather than just using the current state.
The dx, dt were found using Fig.2. dt was found where the Crank Nicolson line started to fluctuate
heavily at around 14s (Fig.3), and dx was found when the line started to bend on the right hand side.
Using the maximum temperature and tile thickness, the parameters, nt and nx, were calculated and
used in the shuttle function.
The left hand side of Fig.4 shows that the inner surface temperature across a range

California Fire Department
In 1970, the Chaparral Region of Southern California suffered immense devastation from wildfires
that burned for several days, burning more than half a million acres of land, destroying over 700
structures and killing 16 people. During the subsequent debriefing and critiques done by the two
primary agencies, Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Fire Departments, four major obstacles
were identified. The two departments agreed that while there was cooperation between the
departments, the identified obstacles definitely impeded the efforts put forth to extinguish the fire.
Terminology between the departments was an initial obstacle that needed to be addressed. The critique
found that because each agency had a variety of terms for the same equipment, there was confusion
when requesting or identifying it. Due to the lack of distinct planning for the wild land fires, the
commanders did not have the ability to deploy the proper units when or where needed. Units were
incorrectly sent to areas, or mistakenly instructed to stand down or stay in quarters when not needed.
The inconsistency in response plans of the different agencies was also an obstacle worth discussing.
Again, each agency had there own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ghsty Two Places Of Gazelles
Ghsty two places of gazelles
The gazelle had not the secular role in ancient Egyptian society which was represented through
different phases of gazelle from give birth to grow up and hunting, but there is another ritual or
religious side of gazelle in ancient Egypt; gazelle was used during processions of temples (Flores
1999: 33 34). The ancient word GHsty is mentioned in pyramid texts and was represented by two
gazelles and referred to the place of two gazelles; this word is associated with Osiris place of death
and resurrection (Griffiths 1980:22; Gauthier 1925: 63, 87, Duemichen 1865: Pl. LXV, no. 23). During
Middle kingdom the gazelle have still played an important role; the word GHsty was mentioned on
sarcophagus (Cairo 28027=T9C), (Banes and Malek 2000: 120; Newberry, P.E., 1893 1900). The
connection between god Khnum and gazelle came from the same epithet nb n GHsty Lord of Gehesty
; the epithet is represented by two gazelle , , in the Book of Dead which found in Karnak Cachette (TT
320, Bab el Gasus) we have two examples indicate the connection between Khnum and gazelle; first
mention is found in chapter 17 Naville 1912: Pl. XIII, 8) and the second in Chapter 112 (Naville 1912:
Pl. XXII, 12). In both chapters Khnum is titled nb n GHsty n the example from Chapter 17, Ghsty s
written with the two standing gazelles drawn clearly and distinctively. The writing from Chapter 112

Uterine Fibroids Affect On The Female Reproductive System
Uterine fibroids affect 3 out of 4 women (Mayo Clinic, 2014). They are non cancerous but they can
cause pain and discomfort. This paper will discuss who can be effected by Uterine fibroids and its
effects on the female reproductive system. This paper will show the three types of fibroids that
develop in or near the uterus. It will discuss the symptoms and when a diagnosis is needed. This paper
will also look into the various forms of treatment including medications and surgery. Uterine Fibroids
Uterine Fibroids are non cancerous growths that develops in the myometrium layer of the uterus. A
single cell divides repeatedly, eventually creating a firm, rubbery mass distinct from nearby tissue
(EA, 2013). There are different types of growth patterns to uterine fibroids. Sometimes they are small
and in some cases they are extremely large. Woman between the ages of 30 and 40 years old are more
at risk of developing uterine fibroids. They develop mostly in the child bearing years of a woman s
life. African American women have a greater risk of developing uterine fibroids at a younger age than
any other race. Uterine fibroids are also called leiomyomas or myomas. Uterine Fibroids can develop
on the inside or outside of the uterus.
There are three different types of Uterine fibroids. One type is Submucosal fibroids. This type of
fibroid grows into the inner cavity of the uterus. These are more likely to cause heavy menstrual
bleeding and can have an effect on pregnancy (Mayo

Literary And Cinematic Works Of `` Maus ``
In the decades following the end of World War II there have been many literary and cinematic works
portraying what life was like during the Holocaust. Many of these have come from survivors
themselves but never the less even some of the most well known works have come from second
generation Holocaust victims or rather children whose parents were a part of it. One of the most
renowned pieces is Art Spiegelman s non fiction graphic novel Maus . Originally published in 1980, it
details the experiences of both Art as the son of a Holocaust survivor and his father Vladek as an
actual eyewitness. The novel describes their individual struggles as well as the toll that has been taken
on their relationship as a result of past events. Another famous and successful work by the son of a
Holocaust victim is Roberto Benigni s 1997 triple academy award winning Italian comedy drama Life
Is Beautiful . Written and directed by Benigni himself, he also portrays the main role of Guido
Orefice, an Italian Jew, who falls in love with a woman named Dora. They subsequently get married
and together have a son named Giousuè. As the war approaches the three of them are soon deported to
what is presumably Auschwitz. Although these two works are completely different they share many
common characteristics and themes with each other. The overarching theme of both works is survival
Grillo 2 and the different ways in which that can be achieved. Breaking it down even further, bravery

Biography of Rolf Benirschke
Heroes come in all sizes, shapes, genders, and backgrounds. Heroes can be defined by many different
standards and are people of great character, who spend their lives doing what they can to help others
in need. Everyone has his or her favorite hero, my favorite hero is one that is little known but to me is
a true inspiration. My hero is Rolf Benirschke. He is my hero for the courage, inspiration, and help
that his words provided me when I was recovering from lifesaving surgery. I do not know Rolf, I do
not know if I ever will get to meet him, but one thing I do know is that he had to fight the same life
changing illness that I did, Ulcerative Colitis. This provided the relationship and admiration that I
have with and for him as my hero. First, Rolf Benirschke was a normal every day young man who had
a family and normal upbringing, just like me. Rolf has a good build, he is skinny, tall, and has brown
hair and brown eyes. Throughout high school, college, and into his profession, Rolf s life seemed to be
just like every other normal person. He was drafted into the National Football League (NFL) to be a
kicker. Soon after he began his third season as a kicker in the NFL, Rolf fainted on the team plane.
When he woke up he was in a hospital with tubes connected all to his body and he was confused. Rolf

A Causal Effect Of Mother s Marital Status On Child s...
Is there a causal effect of mother s marital status on child s birth weight? Childbearing among
unmarried women has been the subject of intense public policy and public health concern for decades,
much of it reflecting concerns about the impact of family structure and the economic security on
children s health and mental well being. This report examines dataset on births in NYC in 2001 to
establish if there is a causal effect between nonmarital birth and low birth weight. Let us first examine
the apparent effect of mother s marital status during childbearing on infants weight by running a
simple regression analysis where we use married as a dummy variable and child s birth weight as a
dependent variable. We have the following results: Birth weight (in grams) = 3193.471 +
94.994*married The model predicts that on average, the weight of the infant at birth to be 3193.471
grams if the mother is unmarried. Also, the model predicts the baby to be on average 95 grams heavier
if the mother is married. R squared of 0.007 or 0.7% tells us that only 0.7% of the variations in birth
weight can be explained by the variation in the marital status of the mother; 99.3% of the birth weight
variations are due to other factors. This model does show the correlation between the mother s marital
status and child s birth weight; however, it is impossible to say if there is a casual effect. The results
are statistically significant at p 0.001 or p 0.1%: there is 0.1% chance to observe the

Discrimination Among The Homeless Essay
From the wise words of Nelson Mandela No one is born hating another person, for love comes more
naturally to the human heart than its opposite. Discrimination is an on going controversial issue, which
can range from status of class, based on gender, color of one s skin, and almost every group there is
possible.
Across America, we re all classified by at least a category, and social class happens to be one of them.
The homeless, being the lowest class is often looked down on. According to preliminary figures by the
National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH), in 2013, homeless Americans experienced a 23%
increase in violence compared with the year before. Hate crimes are common among the homeless,
especially in Florida according to, Huffington post. Cousins Jose Llano Xolo, 14, and Juan Xolo
Merlin, 17 was using self defense when they put a homeless man in a chokehold and stabbed him with
a pen. In Seattle of March 15, two off duty firefighters and a female companion attacked a homeless
man sleeping on a memorial. Love, smiles and hope are the positivity I want to be spreading like
giving change to the homeless for example, instead of discrimination, which is harsh. Nearly half of
families in the US live below 250% of the federal poverty level based on the Hamilton Project. One
mistake, even a penny short can lead people into poverty, even a dollar can literally mean a lottery
win, because every bit counts, it s either life or death.

Dole is going to have an event next month for all kids. What Dole is doing is nothing new. There has
been so much more things, like when Darth Vader, from Star Wars, and Yoda, went and sold bags of

Parents got there children to eat these very easily because they were colorful and were shaped as

How Does Unification Of Language Cause Conflict
Another way in which language can prevent or resolve a conflict is by its role in nationalism that
implies a process of unification. Unification can either be the cause of a conflict because your local
identity is attacked or be the cause of a resolution because, inherently, people are setting apart their
differences and coming together into a nation. In the process of building a unified nation, a unified
language must appear as well. Smith (1998), argues that the unification of language, for example, is a
political act as well as a war act as long as it oppresses local identities and this may be a cause of
conflict. The process of unification can be a war act as Smith states because you are being conquered.
Your language and identity are being stripped off you and that can cause confrontation. However, the
same unification process has a self implication of bringing together places that were once separated
for different reasons which constitutes a conflict resolution method. People are putting aside their
differences in order to have a nation. The differences don´t disappear but a new rhetoric about ... Show

When we think of a conflict there must be at least two opposing sides. Nationalism is a way of making
this problem between two parties one that involves two complete countries. The individual differences
disappear and the problem is now a binary one with extreme opposing sides, each being the whole
people of each country as they are united under nationalism. Language in nationalism also lets us trace
the border between two communities, language marks out a community because it is the primary
means of communication (Smith, 1998, 28). International conflicts can arise because of this
impossibility to communicate effectively and the division this creates. So, language in nationalism
contributes to conflicts because it creates the difference between the opposing sides and makes the
conflict one that involves all the

The Theory Of Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory
Albert Bandura is one of the most influential psychologist in history, best known for his famous Bobo
Doll Experiment. From this experiment, Bandura developed his Social Learning Theory, the theory
that we learn from one another through observation.
To prove his theory, Bandura used children to see if they would imitate a modal who showed
aggressive behavior toward a Bobo doll. The subjects were 36 boys and 36 girls from the Stanford
University s Nursery School aged between 3 and 6 years old. The models were two adults, male and
female. Aggressive behavior was shown to 24 children, non aggressive behavior was shown to 24
children and 24 children served as the control group. For the first step of the experiment, a child and a
model were brought into a room containing toys. The child was escorted to a corner that had potato
prints and stickers while the model was escorted to a corner that had a tinker toy set, a mallet and a 5
foot inflated Bobo doll. For subjects that were in the aggressive condition, the model began aggressing
toward the doll after a minute. The model performed distinct aggressive acts that Bandura was looking
for the child to imitate. The model laid the doll on its side, sat on it and punched it repeatedly in the
nose and then raised the doll, picked up the mallet and struck it on the head. Following the mallet
aggression, the model tossed the doll up in the air and kicked it around the room. These aggressive
acts were repeated three times, interspersed

San Bernardino Terrorist Attacks Case
Apple vs the Government agency (FBI) in the San Bernardino Terrorist attacks case. Ethics and
Morality are defined as the distinction of right and wrong. On the other hand morals are also largely
based on the social values of good and bad. However, people tend to define them as the standards and
customs that guide the way of life towards good. In most cases of ethics and morality they are
referring to acts of both good and bad deeds. Nonetheless, in a recent case with the FBI vs. the
Government against Apple Inc. Company arose one of the key moral issues in the business world.
Apple refused to offer a backdoor to one of the iPhones considered to be of the terrorists. The ethical

Apple mentioned also in their letter to their customers that they were against terrorism. They
continued to state that as a company they did everything in their power to help the FBI in investigating
this case and catch these criminals. However, Apple did not want to risk its customer s privacy
because it was found that most apple product users store data such as private conversations, photos,
music, notes, calendars and contacts, financial information and health data in their devices. Since
Apple operates their company based on certain values one of them being safeguarding their customer s
data, this prompted decision to deny the FBI the software or backdoor that would ve risked the privacy
of millions of iPhone users. The FBI however is willing to do just about anything to solve a case, one
that especially involves serious criminals investigates. Keeping this in mind you can see why the FBI
refused to think morally in favor of Apple and how this backdoor software would ve tarnished the
reputation and decreased business for this company. However it is concluded both of these parties did

The Development Of The Self And The Ability Of Form...
The development of the self and the ability to form relationships with others both begin in infancy, as
the child starts to understand its own existence. The formation of close relationships with parents and,
eventually, with peers is crucial to the psychological and physiological well being of a child. The first
signs of self awareness can generally be found by age two. Children at this stage can recognize
themselves in the mirror and in photographs, as well as use personal pronouns to refer to themselves.
One popular test of self recognition involves discreetly putting a small mark, usually an ink dot, on the
forehead of a child. When the child is told to look at their reflection in a mirror, a child that has

The social world is not as concrete as the physical world, and is governed by subjective laws that
change from person to person. Whenever people are incorporated into a task, that task instantaneously
becomes much harder and this is especially true for young children. If a child does not yet have the
ability to recognize their inner self , it is virtually impossible for them to have effective
communication with someone else, whereas this child can easily figure out that an object dropped
from the highchair will inevitably fall to the ground. Relationships are incredibly important to both
our functioning as a society and our existence as a species. If relationships were considered bad, then
there would be serious repercussions. The most obvious is the strong decline in reproduction that
would occur as a result, also neurosis would be widespread from social isolation. Relationships also
help to motivate us. Upward social comparison occurs when we compare ourselves to those who are
perceived to be better than us (Festinger 1954). In most people, this creates motivation to try and reach
this peak, so long as it is an achievable goal. Relationships also supply us with affection and the
benefits of attachment. As people grow older, attachment with others is necessary to supplant that
which was felt with their parents, as proximity to them is decreased with the emergence of

Alan Turing was a renowned modern mathematician and cryptologist who became known as the father
of computer science and eventually became a gay rights icon for his persecution due to his
homosexuality. He was also extremely important in winning the second world war, developing the
world s first computer to combat and break the German message encrypting Enigma machine. In fact,
Winston Churchill, one of the most prominent figures of World War II, let alone the 20th century, said
that Turing made the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war against Nazi Germany
and its Axis partners. Without Alan Turing, the Allies wouldn t be able to know the Nazi plans and
could very likely have lost the war. Turing, too, developed the idea of ... Show more content on

He began a relationship with a man named Arnold Murray, having him over to his apartment on
frequent occasions. Murray later helped an accomplice break into Turing s house and steal many
valuable, amongst them, although thought to be unknown to the thieves, highly classified documents.
Turing reported the crime and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray. At the time,
homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross indecency. He was then
given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with estrogen hormone injections,
choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security clearance was revoked and he was
barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British government. The treatments subjected him
to years of pain and mental relapses from the hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of
chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance slowly began to wither as he became psychologically
traumatized from the drugs. He began to shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one
point stabbed himself in his leg with a knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him
dead. It appeared that Turing committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In
1966, the annual Turing Award was established and given each year to a person for technical
contributions to the computing community. It is generally viewed as important as the Nobel Prize.

Freudian Theory And Horney s Theory
Freudian Theory and Horney s Theory: A Comparison Paper
Amy Simms
Yorkville University
Abstract
This comparison paper aims to highlight the main aspects of Freud and Horney s theories of
psychoanalysis, and begins to unravel some of the possible similarities, and many of the contrasts
between the two . Beginning with Freud, the grandfather of psychoanalysis, and comparing his set of
ideals with that of a woman who came shortly after him, Karen Horney with not only a new set of
views on psychoanalysis but a fresh new look on gender in society, much due to the culture and time

Throughout the course of this paper, the comparison of Freud and Horney will show that while Freud
began forging the path of psychoanalysis, it was people like Horney who were able to challenge many
of his outdated views and improve upon them, such as challenging the concept that our personalities
are created by age 5, but instead personalities are fluid and grow with the person long after childhood.
(CITE THIS) In the end Honey shows human nature in a more positive and hopeful light, rather than
many of the despairing views of Freudian theory.
FREUD THEORY HIGHLIGHTS 400 WORDS
Starting at the beginning is taking a step back into Vienna in the 1850 s, when Freud s theories began
formation as his childhood experiences began to take place (Schultz Schultz 2017). Freud began his
work in the field of psychoanalysis and specifically the conscious and unconscious mind, and neuroses
through studying under such greats as Charcot and Bernheim (Boeree, C., 2006).
Freud started to think about conscious, preconscious and unconscious mind deeply, and thought that
conscious mind was a small portion of our whole mind, which he believed to be unconscious thought
that drives our instincts.

Trench Conditions In Ww1 Essay
Early on in World War 1, protection for troops became a vital aspect of war as a result of the increased
power, accuracy and precision of newly developed weapons. Armies began to dig large corridors in
the ground that became known as trenches. Originally thought to only be a temporary defensive tactic
soon became a primary part of warfare. However, the conditions in the trenches became harsh and
unsanitary due to battle raging around them and the lack of previsions. As a result, illness and disease
spread rapidly and the reality of war as well as the traumatic experiences soldiers faced impacted
troops in the short and long term. As trenches became a more frequent tactic, the simple design was
improved and adjusted to suit the troops, area and task that it would be used for. They became a very
important part of tactical warfare and some layouts could be very complex. Trenches were first used
on the Western Front by both opposing sides. Due to severe exhaustion, dwindling resources and the
horrific death toll, both sides dug into the ground and assumed a defensive post. Most trenches were
dug deep enough that men couldn t be seen from above. Troops were then ordered to seek momentary
cover in the trenches (FIGURE 1) however eventually it became their permanent front line. ... Show

Political Philosophy Of Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century philosopher who is regarded as one of the forefathers of modern
political philosophy was born on April 5, 1588 in Westport, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire in England.
The unique mind of Thomas Hobbes found profound interest in disciplines like geometry, physics and
math, and studied at Magdalen Hall in Oxford. Hobbes is popularly known for his masterpiece The
Leviathan, his book that was published in the year of 1651 . Hobbes is well known for being an atheist
and for the fruition of what we now know as the social contract theory which was the method of
justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal to the agreement that would be made among
suitably situated rational, free, and equal persons (Hobbes, 1651). He is infamous for having used the
social contract method to arrive at the astounding conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority
of an undivided and unlimited sovereign power (Hobbes 1651) . Though Hobbes had formed
ideologies and applicable viewpoints on both moral and political philosophy, his conceptualization of
moral philosophy has been less influential than his political philosophy, because the theory was rather
ambivalent for the content to be agreed upon by the general public of the 17th Century. Hobbes had
many arguments of why human beings disobey the law.
One argument that Hobbes uses to illustrate his generalized idea of man is metaphysical: the theory
that only bodies in motion are real and

Historical Perspective Of Django Unchained And Butch...
Ricardo Godinez
Professor Dew
History of Film
November 21, 2017
Wild, Wild West
Intro
Historical Perspective Both films were made for different reasons and made different impacts during
their time of release. For Django Unchained, the film showed the horror of slavery before the civil
war. Showing slaves being eaten by dogs to slaves fighting to the death, makes an unconventional film
for its time and raised a lot of controversy considering the movies historical accuracy. The horror of
slavery is in the dehumanization that slave owners create and the effects placed upon the slave of
having to do whatever is necessary to survive, including killing. The memory of slavery is revisited
and reminds the United States of its shame during the time of the film. Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid is a revisionist western that pays homage to old western movies. Since Westerns were
outdated in the late 60 s, this revised western film is created with New Hollywood elements including
an unhappy ending and film using rock/pop soundtracks to attract the youth.
Theme
Both Django Unchained and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid share a common theme of freedom.
In Django Unchained, there are multiple layers of freedom shown that a man and woman is able to
obtain in life. Django is released from chains of oppression, then is given the right to choose his
costume. After his task with Dr. Schultz, he is given his freedom. Dr. Schultz has a greater

resources and attention to online streaming. Netflix is slowly getting out of the DVD and Blu ray

Other companies have used Disruptive Innovation to come in at the bottom of a market and focus on a
lower cost and change the way consumers purchase goods and services, changing the market forever.
One of the best examples of this type of Disruptive Innovation was Toyota. Toyota came into the
American market and offered inexpensive cars that offered very view features and small 4 cylinder
engines. At first many consumers turned their nose up to the Toyota products. But some consumers
bought the Toyota because they were a cheaper option for automobile transportation. When more
customers started to purchase Toyotas and the company was able to establish a solid footing in the
American Business market and they started to change the model of their business. Toyota started to
offer higher end cars and eventually moved into the luxury automobile industry with the Lexus line of
cars. Disruptive innovation is a continual process and happens in business all the time. You can also
see it in the car market right now with Hyundai and Kia.
Redbox entered the market place at the bottom by offering DVDs that were not brand new releases for
$1 a day. The consumer can keep the movie longer if they want to by paying an additional $1 per day.

Marble And Depicting 10 Individual Reliefs
The piece, Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus, is constructed of marble and depicts 10 individual reliefs,
separated by columns. The figures in each subsection occupies most of the frame , with each figure s
head nearing the top of the low hanging ceiling . This height leads to non idyllic proportions
throughout the piece, with some people standing only 5 heads tall and with heads thicker than their
torsos. This disproportion leads to the belief that human anatomy was not the priority of the sculptor,
but rather the narrative of the overall piece, with no individual subsection dominating the composition.
The first subsection in the top left shows a bearded man and his right hand outstretched to the left side
of the canvas, with his other hand hovering over a kneeling child, with another man standing behind
him and some small animal, possibly a lamb, standing beneath the outstretched hand. According to
Stokstad, this may be a depiction of the Binding of Isaac, in which Abraham passes the test of faith
and willingly goes to sacrifice his firstborn son, Isaac, before divine intervention gives him a lamb as a
replacement (Stokstad 168). This conclusion is consistent with the depiction, allowing the viewer to
conclude that the outstretched hand is likely holding a knife and the figure present in the background
is an angel, delivering the lamb in tribute. The subsection below the Binding of Isaac shows a seated
man with a face of anguish, with two others standing over him, apparently

How Significant Was The New Deal
How Significant was the New Deal for the USA?
There were numerous factors brought up, questioning whether or not the New Deal was in fact
beneficial for the whole of America. Many say no, as it was followed by a handful of other issues,
such as inflation, national debt, and unemployment. On the contrary, I will be arguing that it was, in
many ways, helpful for their economy of the US, due to the benefits regarding human rights, standard
of living, and the citizen s overall happiness.
One of the many factors in which the New Deal was seen as beneficial would definitely be the
recognition of various human rights, including rights for Women, Blacks and Native Indians, as well
as workers in Trade Unions. This showed the citizens how much Roosevelt cared for everyone in the
country, speaking and acting for the minorities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Who is William Butler Yeats? William Butler Yeats is regarded as one of the finest poets of the
century. Also, his return to the past as one would say has helped him to have a place in the future. He
was born in Dublin, Ireland, and Yeats was educated there and in London as well. The young man was
very immersed into the barren mountains, and in the mythology and the legends of Ireland. From the
Poetry Foundation stated, He belonged to the Protestant, Anglo Irish minority that had controlled the
economic, political, social, and cultural life of Ireland since at least the end of the 17th century. After

Next, the second message from Yeats Sailing, is what is really living. The idea is that as soon as you
were born you were dying. Which asks the question of what is really living. Some people see a soul
dragging around a corpse. Your soul wants to get out and be free. From the five life changing thoughts
stated, We have an ego, a personality, a history, preferences, dislikes, beliefs, opinions, cultural
viewpoints, and experiences. These ingredients comprise our person and our worldly sense of self. But
beneath all of these human ingredients lies one which is the foundation of all of them. Without this
ingredient, this avatar would not exist. This ingredient is the soul. For me really living is doing things
that make you happy. Because in life a person is going to make mistakes and not be perfect but it s
how you learn from them and how you make your life better from the experience you had. From
Sailing, Yeats, lines 21 25, Consume my heart away; sick with desire and fastened to a dying animal.
It knows not what it is; and gather me into the artifice of eternity. All good things must die but it s
about how you live and some may say that right as you are born you are dying. But, if you look in a
optimistic or pessimistic view that s up to you. Lastly, the message from Sailing, Yeats, is being

those violating the constitution, and that consequently affects their mental state. Due to the given

Both great orators also accept the fact that they lack a stable education like the white man. They do not

The Development Of Exploration And The Industrial Revolution
Many historians refer to the time between Exploration and The Industrial Revolution as era of Early
Modern History . In between Exploration and The Industrial Revolution were markers known as
Reformation and Enlightenment . This was a time where nations became established and grew
increasingly curious of the world around them. Several technological and intellectual advances
occurred during this era. Early modern history began with the Exploration period and ended with the
Industrial Revolution . To begin with, exploration began when countries began to ponder the world
around them more. In Portugal (1415), Prince Henry wanted to travel to Northern Africa so that
Portugal could cut the muslims out of the gold and salt trade. This became known as the Moorish
Crusades. After the Moorish Crusades, schools for exploration began to open in Europe. When the
schools were created, more and more people became interested in traveling to other countries to
expand their own economy, spread religion, and to win glory (Beck, Crowston, Davila, Ebrey, McKay
and Wiesner Hanks 461, 462).
Explorers such as Columbus and Magellan revolutionized Europe. Columbus s desire to spread
Christianity to new lands causes him to discover a route from Europe to Asia (Beck, Crowston,

A Short Note On Chronic And Chronic Illness
Ms. Jones has a both acute and chronic illness which makes her situation more complex. The acute
conditions have a great potential to be reversed; she has a critical hemoglobin (Hgb) level of 6.4 g/dl,
a major infection and a left gangrenous extremity that requires emergent care. Treatment of the acute
condition may be complicated by her chronic condition of diabetes. Immediate care is required to
avoid the spread of the infection and a further decline in her Hgb level which could result in a fatality.
Stabilization of her Hgb level and starting intravenous antibiotic therapy is necessary to avoid harm;
decreasing her chance of cardiac arrest and systemic infection which would increase the likelihood of
success in her case. This scenario does not mention her blood glucose (BG) level but another way
harm can be avoided is by assuring her BG level is within an acceptable range, as well. Therefore,
admitting her to a medical surgical unit to stabilize her Hgb and BG may be necessary prior to surgery.
Although her anemia could be a result of her infection the practitioner should make an effort to
determine the cause of her low Hgb levels to avoid further complications and develop future treatment
plans. However, medical care would not be indicated, if Ms. Jones continues to refuse blood
transfusions. Therefore, more of a palliative or hospice care path may be indicated versus medical and

Wright s Visions of Jesus in his Book, Who Was Jesus
But who do you say I am? (Matthew 16:15). Two thousand years ago, Jesus asked his followers. Who

Jesus . Wright directly goes into the Gospels and talks about Jesus. Put down the ambition of Jews,
take away the mystery of history, break the rule of religion, and at the moment when you realize about
Jesus real desire, we finally can feel and see the real Jesus. Throughout this book, we discover
questions such as Who did Jesus think he was, what was Jesus trying to accomplish and why did he
try to do that. Wright not only tries to prove who Jesus is in a theological way but also explains who
Jesus was in Jesus world. For both people in Jesus time period and people in today, Jesus was foreign
and was different than what people thought as a God . Because of this, we missed the fact that Jesus
was standing in the middle of history, culture, and religion. In the Bible, Jesus came to this land as a
king and as a Messiah. But what is the relationship between Jesus and us?
According to Wright, Jesus is bigger than we and the church can even imagine and people today do
not take him seriously. Also, people today are underestimating Jesus. God did not come to teach
people how to go to heaven, but to teach that God is trying to be a king of this land and if people pray

components required to build a state of the art gaming computer, state of the art must be defined. For
the purposes of this program design, state of the art is defined as a set of computer components that
are capable of operating current games to a satisfactory level. A sample of minimum and
recommended hardware requirements for modern games was taken and a baseline established for
components that satisfy those requirements. Additional hardware was selected that exceeds the
requirements to establish options representing mid range and bleeding edge components. These three
sets of components were researched online to determine prices ... Show more content on

These tasks directly correspond to the modules of our design. An input module will display a list of 11
drop down boxes, one for each component type. Each drop down box will contain the options
available for that component type, with the baseline category option as the default. A calculation
module will look up the prices for the selected components in the database and compute the sum total.
A display module will output the result to the user. A main module will tie the other modules together

Pip s Sense Of Social Antipathy In Charles DickensGreat...
When reading the novel Great expectations, one often comes to the conclusion that Pip s sense of
social inferiority is the source of his self antipathy and that this feeling of inadequacy is first
conceived when introduced to Estella. However, these thoughts are not formed when he first
encounters her and the Satis House, nor are they intensified by her scorn and ridicule. Instead, her
contempt gives him a way of coping with the sense of worthlessness he has carried throughout his
childhood. Pip s perception of what is required of him when receiving his inheritance simply obscures
the significances of his initial experiences that resulted in him having these emotions. The conditions
of Pip s childhood generate intense feelings of deficiency, anxiety, and guilt. His first most vivid and
broad impression of the identity of things (Dickens 3) is that he is a helpless orphan who lives in a
threatening world. These strong emotions are epitomized by Magwitch, who threatens him with the
future notion of violence and gruesome actions. Magwitch s question of whether Pip is to be let to live
(Dickens 5) is one that resonates throughout his childhood, which is filled with a sense of helplessness
and danger, similar to that of which the convict generates. His encounter with Magwitch is so
consequential because it encapsulates, in a very extreme way, his everyday ordeals. This is shown by
his abusive and overbearing sister, whom he strongly depends on. She continually shows

A Man with a Cornet Sword and Black and Blue Shield
Louis Satchelmouth Armstrong, an inventor of new style jazz and revolutionary artist noted as one of
the greatest men not only in the Jazz music development, but also what Duke Ellington called as a
truly god and original man. (DeVeaux, pp.140) Louis was known as the most notable colored skin
musician in 1920 s in North America due to his skill of modification in music. His contribution in Jazz
later on in his career was broader used as an effective advocate for racial tolerance and equality in the
USA and all over the world.
The innovations that makes him recognizable throughout the world can be formulized into five
significant instances: Introduction of blue notes, improvisation, scat singing, lots of repertory, and
swing. He revolutionized the blues music that was known to be more formal such as ragtime, military
band, and broadband onto something that more joyous and expressive. His invention is somehow
makes him success to spread Jazz projected the optimism and vitality of black American [movement]
(Von Eschen, pp.252) to a larger scale.
His signature of music uses New Orleans s style as a base, but he introduced blue scales and then
altered by an emotional performance that includes the sense of the song. That way, the audiences are
able to catch the message from the song he performed. Unlike the way Jazz it used to be, Armstrong

  • 2. Children Of The River Quotes The hardest part of being an immigrant is the journey to their destination because of these reasons which are leaving family behind and getting to their destination. Leaving family behind is hard because most times immigrants will never see them again. Getting to their destination is hard to because their are smugglers who swindle immigrants and leave them with no money and in the hands of police. This piece of evidence shows how hard it is to get out of a country because sometimes part of the immigrants family could die. In my book Children of the River the main character Sundra is trying to take care of her aunt s baby but is struggling with it and then when she goes for milk the man tells her If the baby dies, throw it overboard right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was a better option than staying in Cambodia because than her whole family would have been killed by the Communists. In this quote, getting out of the country was a challenge for Sundra because she is sometimes blamed for the baby dying. Sundra s aunt was mad that Sundra threw the baby overboard before giving it to the baby s mother Sundra s aunt. After, Sundra s aunt blames her for the baby dying Sundra feels guilty about how she could of saved the baby. Another reason why the biggest challenge for immigrants is the journey to America is leaving family behind. This quote is from Shooting Kabul during this part of the story Fadi s family is trying to get out of Kabul and he loses his sister in the crowd. This quote is when Fadi is reflecting back on how he lost his sister. His six year old little sister had been lost because of him. Similarly, this quote and the quote from Children of the River contrast because Fadi feels guilty for losing his sister and Sundra feels guilty for losing her aunts baby. This is hard for Fadi because he is reflecting back throughout the book about how he could of saved his sister in that moment. Both of these pieces of evidence show how the journey to an immigrants destination is the hardest part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Siddhartha By Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha Essay In the short story Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha, the protagonist of the story was led on a journey to reach enlightenment. Through his many realizations occurring in stages and phases, Siddhartha experienced emotional, mental and physical changes. These stages marked the journey Siddhartha underwent, and the destined metamorphism developed as he followed the path of enlightenment. In Siddhartha s first phase, Siddhartha, a wealthy Brahmin found that even though everyone loved him, he could not bring himself joy and please himself (Hesse). This discontent was spurred by the fact that the wise Brahmins had shared the majority and the best of their wisdom with him; yet, he was not satisfied nor did this quench his thirst for knowledge but only fueled it (Hesse). Questions arose, about sacrifices, happiness and Atman, did he who possessed so much wisdom live a blessed life (Hesse)? At this moment in Siddhartha s life, he was without peace and he wanted to find answers to these many questions. Focused and hellbent on the journey to enlightenment, Siddhartha made an audacious decision to go to the Samanas [and] become a Samana (Hesse). Through hours of an impasse between Siddharth and his father, his father finally agreed to let Siddhartha continue his life journey that began with becoming a Samana. Through this phase, Siddhartha learned he was unsatisfied with practices such as sacrificing, and that he had already achieved the wisdom obtainable from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Inner Surface Temperature Against Time And Tile Thickness From Fig.2, it shows that the inner surface temperature against time and tile thickness. On the right hand side, it is shown that the Forward and the Dufort Frankel method are very unstable. Both methods had an infinite inner surface temperature at start, which is not ideal. For Backward and Crank Nicolson methods, both of them had a smooth curve and did not have much fluctuation. On the left hand side, it shows the temperature at the inner surface against time. Forward and Dufort Frankel deviated very soon after the tile get heated. This time, the Backward method moved away from the starting temperature which is a sign of unstable. Therefore, Crank Nicolson was selected to be the most appropriate method to solve this problem. In theory, forward differencing and Dufort Frankel methods were explicit method, and backward differencing and Crank Nicolson were implicit methods. It was suggested that the implicit method was more stable than the explicit as it solved the equation involving both the current state and the next step rather than just using the current state. The dx, dt were found using Fig.2. dt was found where the Crank Nicolson line started to fluctuate heavily at around 14s (Fig.3), and dx was found when the line started to bend on the right hand side. Using the maximum temperature and tile thickness, the parameters, nt and nx, were calculated and used in the shuttle function. The left hand side of Fig.4 shows that the inner surface temperature across a range ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. California Fire Department In 1970, the Chaparral Region of Southern California suffered immense devastation from wildfires that burned for several days, burning more than half a million acres of land, destroying over 700 structures and killing 16 people. During the subsequent debriefing and critiques done by the two primary agencies, Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City Fire Departments, four major obstacles were identified. The two departments agreed that while there was cooperation between the departments, the identified obstacles definitely impeded the efforts put forth to extinguish the fire. Terminology between the departments was an initial obstacle that needed to be addressed. The critique found that because each agency had a variety of terms for the same equipment, there was confusion when requesting or identifying it. Due to the lack of distinct planning for the wild land fires, the commanders did not have the ability to deploy the proper units when or where needed. Units were incorrectly sent to areas, or mistakenly instructed to stand down or stay in quarters when not needed. The inconsistency in response plans of the different agencies was also an obstacle worth discussing. Again, each agency had there own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes they are small and in some cases they are extremely large. Woman between the ages of 30 and 40 years old are more at risk of developing uterine fibroids. They develop mostly in the child bearing years of a woman s life. African American women have a greater risk of developing uterine fibroids at a younger age than any other race. Uterine fibroids are also called leiomyomas or myomas. Uterine Fibroids can develop on the inside or outside of the uterus. There are three different types of Uterine fibroids. One type is Submucosal fibroids. This type of fibroid grows into the inner cavity of the uterus. These are more likely to cause heavy menstrual bleeding and can have an effect on pregnancy (Mayo ... Many of these have come from survivors themselves but never the less even some of the most well known works have come from second generation Holocaust victims or rather children whose parents were a part of it. One of the most renowned pieces is Art Spiegelman s non fiction graphic novel Maus . Originally published in 1980, it details the experiences of both Art as the son of a Holocaust survivor and his father Vladek as an actual eyewitness. The novel describes their individual struggles as well as the toll that has been taken on their relationship as a result of past events. Another famous and successful work by the son of a Holocaust victim is Roberto Benigni s 1997 triple academy award winning Italian comedy drama Life Is Beautiful . Written and directed by Benigni himself, he also portrays the main role of Guido Orefice, an Italian Jew, who falls in love with a woman named Dora. They subsequently get married and together have a son named Giousuè. As the war approaches the three of them are soon deported to what is presumably Auschwitz. He is my hero for the courage, inspiration, and help that his words provided me when I was recovering from lifesaving surgery. I do not know Rolf, I do not know if I ever will get to meet him, but one thing I do know is that he had to fight the same life changing illness that I did, Ulcerative Colitis. This provided the relationship and admiration that I have with and for him as my hero. First, Rolf Benirschke was a normal every day young man who had a family and normal upbringing, just like me. Rolf has a good build, he is skinny, tall, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Throughout high school, college, and into his profession, Rolf s life seemed to be just like every other normal person. He was drafted into the National Football League (NFL) to be a kicker. Soon after he began his third season as a kicker in the NFL, Rolf fainted on the team plane. • 11. A Causal Effect Of Mother s Marital Status On Child s... Is there a causal effect of mother s marital status on child s birth weight? Childbearing among unmarried women has been the subject of intense public policy and public health concern for decades, much of it reflecting concerns about the impact of family structure and the economic security on children s health and mental well being. This report examines dataset on births in NYC in 2001 to establish if there is a causal effect between nonmarital birth and low birth weight. Let us first examine the apparent effect of mother s marital status during childbearing on infants weight by running a simple regression analysis where we use married as a dummy variable and child s birth weight as a dependent variable. We have the following results: Birth weight (in grams) = 3193.471 + 94.994*married The model predicts that on average, the weight of the infant at birth to be 3193.471 grams if the mother is unmarried. Also, the model predicts the baby to be on average 95 grams heavier if the mother is married. R squared of 0.007 or 0.7% tells us that only 0.7% of the variations in birth weight can be explained by the variation in the marital status of the mother; 99.3% of the birth weight variations are due to other factors. This model does show the correlation between the mother s marital status and child s birth weight; however, it is impossible to say if there is a casual effect. The results are statistically significant at p 0.001 or p 0.1%: there is 0.1% chance to observe the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unification can either be the cause of a conflict because your local identity is attacked or be the cause of a resolution because, inherently, people are setting apart their differences and coming together into a nation. In the process of building a unified nation, a unified language must appear as well. Smith (1998), argues that the unification of language, for example, is a political act as well as a war act as long as it oppresses local identities and this may be a cause of conflict. The process of unification can be a war act as Smith states because you are being conquered. Your language and identity are being stripped off you and that can cause confrontation. Language in nationalism also lets us trace the border between two communities, language marks out a community because it is the primary means of communication (Smith, 1998, 28). Trench Conditions In Ww1 Essay Early on in World War 1, protection for troops became a vital aspect of war as a result of the increased power, accuracy and precision of newly developed weapons. Armies began to dig large corridors in the ground that became known as trenches. Originally thought to only be a temporary defensive tactic soon became a primary part of warfare. However, the conditions in the trenches became harsh and unsanitary due to battle raging around them and the lack of previsions. As a result, illness and disease spread rapidly and the reality of war as well as the traumatic experiences soldiers faced impacted troops in the short and long term. Political Philosophy Of Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century philosopher who is regarded as one of the forefathers of modern political philosophy was born on April 5, 1588 in Westport, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire in England. The unique mind of Thomas Hobbes found profound interest in disciplines like geometry, physics and math, and studied at Magdalen Hall in Oxford. Hobbes is popularly known for his masterpiece The Leviathan, his book that was published in the year of 1651 . Hobbes is well known for being an atheist and for the fruition of what we now know as the social contract theory which was the method of justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal to the agreement that would be made among suitably situated rational, free, and equal persons (Hobbes, 1651). He is infamous for having used the social contract method to arrive at the astounding conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority of an undivided and unlimited sovereign power (Hobbes 1651) . Though Hobbes had formed ideologies and applicable viewpoints on both moral and political philosophy, his conceptualization of moral philosophy has been less influential than his political philosophy, because the theory was rather ambivalent for the content to be agreed upon by the general public of the 17th Century. Hobbes had many arguments of why human beings disobey the law. This disproportion leads to the belief that human anatomy was not the priority of the sculptor, but rather the narrative of the overall piece, with no individual subsection dominating the composition. The first subsection in the top left shows a bearded man and his right hand outstretched to the left side of the canvas, with his other hand hovering over a kneeling child, with another man standing behind him and some small animal, possibly a lamb, standing beneath the outstretched hand. According to Stokstad, this may be a depiction of the Binding of Isaac, in which Abraham passes the test of faith and willingly goes to sacrifice his firstborn son, Isaac, before divine intervention gives him a lamb as a replacement (Stokstad 168). This conclusion is consistent with the depiction, allowing the viewer to conclude that the outstretched hand is likely holding a knife and the figure present in the background is an angel, delivering the lamb in tribute. The subsection below the Binding of Isaac shows a seated man with a face of anguish, with two others standing over him, apparently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were numerous factors brought up, questioning whether or not the New Deal was in fact beneficial for the whole of America. On the contrary, I will be arguing that it was, in many ways, helpful for their economy of the US, due to the benefits regarding human rights, standard of living, and the citizen s overall happiness. One of the many factors in which the New Deal was seen as beneficial would definitely be the recognition of various human rights, including rights for Women, Blacks and Native Indians, as well as workers in Trade Unions. Some people see a soul dragging around a corpse. Your soul wants to get out and be free. From the five life changing thoughts stated, We have an ego, a personality, a history, preferences, dislikes, beliefs, opinions, cultural viewpoints, and experiences. These ingredients comprise our person and our worldly sense of self. But beneath all of these human ingredients lies one which is the foundation of all of them. Without this ingredient, this avatar would not exist. This ingredient is the soul. For me really living is doing things that make you happy. From Sailing, Yeats, lines 21 25, Consume my heart away; sick with desire and fastened to a dying animal. It knows not what it is; and gather me into the artifice of eternity. Treatment of the acute condition may be complicated by her chronic condition of diabetes. Immediate care is required to avoid the spread of the infection and a further decline in her Hgb level which could result in a fatality. Stabilization of her Hgb level and starting intravenous antibiotic therapy is necessary to avoid harm; decreasing her chance of cardiac arrest and systemic infection which would increase the likelihood of success in her case. This scenario does not mention her blood glucose (BG) level but another way harm can be avoided is by assuring her BG level is within an acceptable range, as well. Therefore, admitting her to a medical surgical unit to stabilize her Hgb and BG may be necessary prior to surgery. Although her anemia could be a result of her infection the practitioner should make an effort to determine the cause of her low Hgb levels to avoid further complications and develop future treatment plans. When reading the novel Great expectations, one often comes to the conclusion that Pip s sense of social inferiority is the source of his self antipathy and that this feeling of inadequacy is first conceived when introduced to Estella. However, these thoughts are not formed when he first encounters her and the Satis House, nor are they intensified by her scorn and ridicule. Instead, her contempt gives him a way of coping with the sense of worthlessness he has carried throughout his childhood. Pip s perception of what is required of him when receiving his inheritance simply obscures the significances of his initial experiences that resulted in him having these emotions. The conditions of Pip s childhood generate intense feelings of deficiency, anxiety, and guilt. His first most vivid and broad impression of the identity of things (Dickens 3) is that he is a helpless orphan who lives in a threatening world. These strong emotions are epitomized by Magwitch, who threatens him with the future notion of violence and gruesome actions. Magwitch s question of whether Pip is to be let to live (Dickens 5) is one that resonates throughout his childhood, which is filled with a sense of helplessness and danger, similar to that of which the convict generates.
