Cultural Aspects Of Sexy Salsa Dance
As different groups of people move from one geographic location to another, they bring various
aspects of their heritage with them, including the dance forms characteristic of their culture. While
in a new location, these cultural aspects can serve to unify people of a common ethnicity, giving
them a physical expression of their collective identity. On the other hand, when a minority group of
people practices its danceforms in a new geographic location, dominant groups of people often
adopt them. Failing to understand the social significance and original meanings of such dances,
the majority group appropriates several aspects of the dance forms while changing other aspects
in order to make them fit better within its cultural ideologies. In this way, cultural appropriation
of dance forms dissolves some of their original cultural meanings, as is exemplified by the
transmission of salsa dance from a Latin American social dance to a Western ballroom dance,
changing its nature from an expression of cultural unity to an exotic experience. Performed
primarily in social dance clubs, salsa is a fluid and dynamic dance. The movement of the dancers
originates from their hips, which move constantly throughout the dance (Sexy Salsa Dancing). This
in turn leads to the dancers having a dynamic and flexible spine, weight shifts propelled by core
body movement often resulting in weight suspended between the feet, [and] flexed knees and a
lower center of gravity (Malnig 304). The

This leads to physical and psychological harm which may further impair social and vocational
functioning (Marks et al, 2005). Alcohol problems affect the health and well being of the individual
as well as their families, friends and other members of the community in which they live.
The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF) have a population of 176,000) and it
is the fourth most densely populated local authority in England and Wales (LBHF, 2004), in LBHF
around 40% of new admissions were alcohol dependent assessment. Within this borough, there is a
high incidence of alcohol abuse as well as severe mental illness.
Adult men with alcohol dependence in Hammersmith are chosen as a client group for several
reasons. The Department of Health profile (DH, 2007) has indicated that alcohol dependence is
becoming a problem and men are mostly affected. This will therefore affect in the role they play
within their families and community (DH, 2005).

total annual healthcare cost alone related to alcohol misuse add up to ВЈ1.7 billion per year. The

War Is Kind Analysis
War is seen as disturbing, violent, depressing and stressful. Although some may think of it as
honorable or may even welcome their own death in a war because of the glory that can come with
it, others believe in the protest against the brutal acts of war. Several writers such as Stephen
Crane, Wilfred Owen, Tim O Brien, and Kevin Powers are especially known to protest against war
through their forms of writing. In order to strengthen their arguments and persuade audiences to
prevent acts of war, they use techniques such as imagery, irony and structure to reveal the
disturbing truths behind war. Imagery is one of the most powerful tools that writers try to use
when protesting war because it serves as a simpler way to present clearer images... Show more

Although structure is a complex tool to use when trying to support an argument, it can serve as
one of the most impactful tools that authors can use because it is sets up their form of writing
and presents the audience with a specific style. The style that is created from the writer s
structure is what affects the reader s mindset on the topic of the writing. For example, if a
writing s structure is set up like a list, then the reader is most likely going to believe that the
author is just trying to get to each of his or her points without trying to make the reader feel any
emotion and so their writing is going to sound dull or bland. The Things They Carried by Tim O
Brien has a structure set up just like that type of list. His list consists of the necessities that
soldiers carried to war such as P 38 can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags,
mosquito repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes, salt tablets, packets of Kool Aid, lighters,
matches, sewing kits, Military Payment Certificates, C rations, and two or three canteens of water
(2). O Brien uses a list to help create his structure by implying that most of this equipment can not
help them and the tone it creates is straightforward to imply the dull aspects of war. O Brien also
uses parallel structure with his lists to emphasize the items they carried by creating a feeling of
repetitiveness.

A Reflection Of Speech
Now that day two speakers have finished their speeches, I have considered the feedback given
about my speech and compared it to other speakers in the class. I reviewed in my head what I
did wrong and went back in my mind to remember those speakers who I believed did better than
me in the categories I scored low in. We learn from each other s strengths as well as our mistakes.
Accordingly, chapter ten focuses on the beginning and ending a speech. An effective introduction
gets the speakeroff on the right foot. The right foot means that the speaker has accomplished the
goal of a great hook to attract the audiences attention. A speaker s introduction is a way to make
the audience feel intrigued and want to continue listening so that he or she will feel as though
what is about to be said is to benefit them. An effective conclusion ends the speech on a strong
note. The strong note is the speaker going back to review what was previously said so that the
audience can remember that information and use it somehow in a way that the speaker intended it
to be used. During my speech, I felt that greeting my peers and informing them on what I will be
speaking about, which was introducing my partner, would be a great start for my audience to be
awake and to feel included on what they will be putting their attention on. Out of the eight methods
in the first objective, I used the last one which was gaining their attention by referring to the
occasion. I introduced the fact that my

Self Regulation over Government Regulation on The...
How involved should the Government be when it comes to regulation of the Internet? There are
many different issues regarding internet regulation. Should Internet users be responsible for
controlling how they use the Internet? Since the internet has been introduced to Americans there
have been many debates on how involved the Government shouldbe in regulating topics such as
violent games, gambling, and sexual content.
The Internet is a very useful source for many things. It has almost become a way of life for some
people It has faded out things such as post offices, shopping malls and even telephones to some
extent. So since it has become such an asset in peoples lives then should there be laws to prevent
chaos on the Internet?
People ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what should the Government do? The Government has power to control who can gamble and
who can purchace certain items at a casino or store but how can the government possibly stop a
teenager from doing this online? It needs to be up to the parent to control how their child uses the
Internet.
Another issue is video games on the internet. There are a lot of violent video games now days,
most of which you have to be eighteen to purchase. There are also a lot of violent video games on
the Internet that you have to be eighteen to play but all you have to do is check the little box that
says yes I am eighteen or over, and who would know any different but that person?
A lot of people are very adament about self regulation. Any other kind of government regulation
on the internet would be a very long process. It s not just the U.S. that has access to this tool. It
is the World Wide Web, meanig it s world wide. There would need to be some sort of committee
formed and it would have to consist of officials from different countries in order to have any law or
regulation because the Internet does not belong to the U.S., it belongs to the world.
Self regulation is, I believe, the best kind of regulation for the Internet. If a parent does not want
their child playing violent video games or downloading pornographic images then

Pine Barrens Research Papers
What is the Pine Barrens? The Pine Barrens is a region of land filled with wildlife, and many
important industries that contribute to everyday life. This miraculous area is found in New Jersey,
in the United States, and it covers 22% of the state. Lots of animals and many different varieties of
plants call this massive area home. Trees, such as the pitch pine, have adapted to the fire hazard
area by the way their appearance is. Many other animals and plants have also done the same to
adapt to this environment. This past May, I (along with my whole sixth grade), took a trip to
Camp Ockanickon and spent three days there in the cabins that were separated by boys and girls.
We were assigned activities each day and there were a variety of lessons... Show more content on

If you take a close look at this area, you ll find many other animal species and habitats that will
leave you speechless wondering how they could survive in a habitat. In fact, in the Pine Barrens,
there is a total of 39 species of mammals, 299 birds, 59 reptiles, and 91 fish that have been
spotted. All of these animals contribute to the ecosystem by participating in the food chain, and
even some individual animals help us as well. Bees suck in a type of liquid called nectar from a
flower blossom, and store it in what s known as the honey stomach, which differs from their food
stomach. Once they have a full load, they bring it back to their hive. Next time when you see a
bee flying around you, or near a flower, don t swat at it. Instead, watch and see how it collects the
pollen we use for honey. Worms are another example of animals that can be found in the Pine
Barrens that helps the ecosystem as well. They help aerate (which means to allow air into) the soil
so that the roots of plants can have access to better oxygen that they need in order to survive. All
around you in the Pine Barrens, you see tons of trees. You can thank a couple forgetful squirrels
for those. Each year, these squirrels carelessly drop acorns or stash their supply throughout yards
and forests of the Pine Barrens ecosystem. Eventually, those seeds will sprout into a tree that will
continue to grow and adapt to be part of the ecosystem over time. Nature relies on this process from
squirrels to continuously drop and stash more acorns to keep the growth of trees continuing, since
the acorns canВґt move on their own to be

The Differences Between Stocks And Bonds
First Personal Assignment
Americans have a lot of options when it comes to where they put their money. Two of these
options are stocks and bonds. This paper will serve as a discussion on the topic of the advantages
and the disadvantages of both stocks and bonds. This discourse will attempt to compare the
differences between stocks and bonds, as well as incorporating various advantages and
disadvantages to each investment. Some of the basic differences between a stock and a bond
include would be that stocks are normally issues by a company or corporation. Bonds, however,
can be issued by corporations and companies or they can be issued by the government. Stocks
can pose more of a risk because they pay their investors dividends, which are not always
guaranteed. The only way a bonds would not pay out dividends to its investors is if the company
or organization had to go bankrupt. Overall, there is more safety in bonds than what one would
receive with stocks.
Advantages of investing in stocks
One of the primary reasons why stock prices go up or down, is essentially, the profitability of the
company. LearninMarkets.com (2009) lists four advantages of investing in stocks. The first
advantage is compound interest. Compound interest is a miracle of the financial world. Compound
interest, when given time, helps your money grow faster and faster (learningmarkets.com, 2009,
pg.1). According to Herbert Mayo (2012), the definition of interest that compounds is the process

Essay About Houston
Beatriz Gaona
Prof. Andrew Tolle
ENGL 1301 41028
17 September 2017 Houstonians A poem written by South Carolina pastor, Jeremy Rutledge has
given readers a lot to think about. The poem was composed after the great Hurricane Harvey
tragedy in Houston. In his poem Rutledge mentions the word pray many times but the meaning of it
goes way beyond that. When praying for something it is important to know the aspects and
struggles of it, and that is exactly what Rutledge is doing in this poem, stating all the things that
make Houston unique, diverse, and capable to rise from it all. Throughout the entire poem
Rutledge suggests just how diverse Houston is. For instance, the lines, pray like you re sitting
over Soup at Spanish Flowers or pho at Mai s steaming your glasses are great examples of this.
The difference between both cuisines is huge emphasizing diversity. For example, Spanish Flowers

BeyoncГ© is a huge influencer well known to be from Houston. In the poem Rutledge says,
Pray like BeyoncГ© when she was at HSPVA . BeyoncГ© struggled to come up from nearly
nothing to becoming one of music s top selling artists with sold out tours and a slew of awards.
By putting BeyoncГ© in the poem Rutledge universalizes Houston and reaches out to a whole
other group other than Houston itself. Rutledge also implies that like BeyoncГ© Houston can rise
from nothing. Along the same lines, Rutledge says you can fill up our bayou but you will never
rain on our parade . Meaning Hurricane Harvey can rain and flood their river but never lower their
spirits. Just like BeyoncГ© fell many times but stayed strong and rose from it all. BeyoncГ© is an
outstanding example to universalize and show just how strong Houston

The Greatest Influence Of A Leader
As I try to think of the person who has had the most influence as a leader in my life two people
promptly come to mind. The first is my father, Cornelius Sims aka Bull, and the second is
Robert Johns. Robert Johns was my mission president when I served as a missionary for the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East
Mission. Both have been superior examples of a leader in my life. Both have loved me and
shown me patience in times where I was more than difficult. Both have been excellent examples of
a daddy and a husband. With that said, I have decided to write about my father in this paper.
However, there have been a plethora of events in which he demonstrated leadership in my life. This

There have been many of these stories which were hilarious and I enjoy hearing them over and
over, others were not so fun to hear. My father is a hardworking man as well as a familyman. He
was a strong proponent of discipline for his children and expected us to be respectful and to
obey the rules. My earliest memories of my father were him working at Louisiana Downs,
during the racing season, as an assistant horse trainer and as a semi truck driver during the down
time. He would often take my older sister and me to the track or in the semi with him so we
could work with him. He was well respected at the track and people were naturally drawn to him.
It may have been his big smile, which he does not like to share in pictures, his stories, or his
willingness to help others and the respect he expressed to others. In 1985, my parents decided to
move the family to Fairbanks, Alaska which is where the majority of my mother s family was living.
My father drove my mom, my older sister, and me to California where we met up with my aunt
and her family to continue the drive to Alaska. While in California, my mother was involved in
pedestrian versus car collision in a gas station parking lot. The operator of the vehicle responsible
for the collision was an intoxicated male. This resulted in the first time I ever saw my father yell
out of anger at another person. My uncles had to restrain my father for the protection of the other

Government Power Contradicts In Today s Society
Governmental power contradicts with how our society functions as a whole. In today s society
the government influences the lives of many with how we need to treat others. For example, in
2016 after the presidential elections, a young African American girl by the name of Nida was
bullied and terrorized for the color of her skin. A young boy had told her that her family was
going to get kicked back to their country now with a new president sending illegal immigrants back
to their home country (Kowalski). In the same sense, the recent tragedy that has hit our nation
today is the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida. 19 year old

Benefits Of The American Dream
The American dream is something people, mainly immigrants, strive to reach. People all over
see the Americas as a magical place, or a place of unlimited opportunities that everyone wants to
have. The American dream is a dream of getting ahead... (the right to fail, William Zinsser). What
provides for the American dream in modern day society is the rights given to you when you
become an American, and the rights to get a job and earn money. The American Dream is
accessible because those who can achieve it, and those who try to, can reach it. but because the
focus has shifted to realistic terms, it may or may not be accessible to all. It is still accessible
because if you try hard enough, you will be able to achieve the American dream of freedom, a
home, a job for money, and anything else you wish to be able to do when being an American.
Anything can be achieved if you try hard enough and you wantit bad enough to work for it. If you
don t try to work, or try to succeed, then you don t want to achieve the American dream.
The American Dream is accessible to all because if you try hard enough, you will be able to
achieve the American dream of freedom, a home, a job, or money. Barack Obama, our former
President of America, once said I believe we can give our middle class relief and provide
working families with a road to opportunities (Barack Obama, Keynote address 2004).This
illustrates the concept that all Americans can be given the chance to succeed and have
opportunities that they deserve as an American. success and failure are again becoming
individual visions, as they were when the country was younger, not rigid categories. Maybe we
are learning again to cherish the right of every person to succeed on his own terms and to fail as
often as necessary on the way. (The right to fail, William Zinsser). This quote means that people
are beginning to understand that it is okay to fail as long as you try to succeed. there are many
different interpretations of the American dream, like the one that Anzia Yezierska believes in
America and I. The American Dream is accessible to all because Anything can be achieved if you
try hard enough and you want it bad enough to work for it, but some people don t know that.

Worl World History
Perspectives all are different; sometimes they change and sometimes they stay the same. World
History is both similar and different from all other history studied from 5th grade till 8th grade.
Similarity in history is looking back to a time and noticing it was almost the same as what has
happened before or after. Difference in comparing historyis looking at a time and seeing this is very
unlike a time before this or after. The perspective of World History is unique to the history studied
during 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Always looking at something from the same perspective gets to

Culture lets us look into religion as well as how people were similar and different than people
today. The culture described in the novel, about past human life, talks much about religion and
transformation. Studying about the Inca and Maya civilizations before, they had a culture with art,
architecture, and a unique style of clothing. World History culture talks about cultures from
different places. However, both histories talk about specific culture, but world history talks about
the culture that all humans had. This kind of history is about the world as a whole. Studying about
the whole world is amazing. Usually studying about the United States and a little of Latin America

Suburban Sitcoms In The 60 s
Suburban sitcoms coming out in the late 50 s early 60 s portrayed usually an average family
with average problems it solves by the end of the episode, most sitcoms including Leave It To
Beaver followed the same formula; two white parents, a mother, and father, and 2 3 children;
every episode followed the same steps, there s a problem, the problem is solved by the end of
the episode, and a lesson is learned by the main character. This held up perfectly in the 50 s and

My CT uses technology in many ways to enhance his students understanding of Math and Science
concepts. I have noticed in my class Science lessons, they often engage in learning through a

The Indirect Water Crisis In Flint, Michigan
Flint, Michigan
By Manu Ravela and Amrutha Venkat Imagine that you just ran 5 laps around the track, you re

Chaldean Culture Essay
My patient, A 35 year old first generation Chaldean American women, seemed a little reluctant to
answer some of my questions, regarding her culture. During several interactions with the patient,
she made minimum eye contact and gave a brief answer to my questions. When I asked my patient
what language she was fluent in, she glanced at me for a second and responded English . I later
learned that most modern day Chaldean American speak English, Aramaic, and Arabic the primary
language of the Iraqi nation. Many Chaldean speak Jesuslanguage , also known as Aramaic when
communicating among themselves, while others choose to speak English instead of their mother
tongue. This sparked my interest and I decided to do a little research to educate myself and this is
what I learned. Chaldean Americans are descendants of people from the northern Tigris Euphrates
valley, presently located in the Middle Eastern nation of Iraq.
Religion is of most importance in the Chaldean community. As members of the Roman Catholic
church, Chaldean follow the same rules and beliefs as other catholic. However, they have their own

Functions And Functions Of Management Functions
Management functions are defined as the ways that managers are grouped within an organisation
to achieve specialist tasks and refer to specific areas of practice that involve only a small group of
managers who, usually, need particular training or experience and belong to relevant professional
organisations. There are five major functions in most organisations known as big five (Smith,
2011): marketing, concerned with promoting and distributing products; operations, which involves
the transformation of inputs into outputs; human resource management, which deals with people
within the organisation in terms of recruitment, development and deployment; finance, responsible
for managing money and lastly the recently introduced information management, which manages
all the information technology resources used to collect, store and transmit data. In addition to
these, other functions can be identified such as research and development, quality, distribution and
logistics among others. All of them can be divided into three main groups: line functions, which
play a key role in producing goods or services (marketing, R D, operations); enabling functions
providing services to other functions in order to help them operate more effectively (finance, HR,
IT, technical and secretarial services); controlling functions, whose task is to make sure that
standards and regulations are respected (quality assurance, quality control and legal and
administrative functions).

The Role Of Homeless Veterans In Texas
In Texas today there about 16,000 homeless veterans. Veterans who previously put their lives on
the line for this country, veterans who, at the very least, deserve a bed to sleep on at night. This
is not only an issue that needs to be addressed in Texas, but also an issue that should be a top
priority. Because Texas has the third largest population of homeless veterans, we should be doing
more to help those who served in combat and are now living on the streets. Although Austin has
recently helped lower the population of homeless veteran, the bill SB 267 the you wrote has made
it harder to find appropriate housing for these veterans. Understanding that the bill was passed to
protect private property rights, it was nevertheless detrimental to the overall goal of finding a place

Hegemonic Masculinity And Music

Moreover, it includes persuasion of a big part of the population, especially through the media and
the organization of social institutions. Homophobia and heterosexuality form the foundation for
hegemonic masculinity and all comprehension of its meaning is predicated on the feminist insight
that in general the relationship of men to women is oppressive (644). Hegemonic masculinity is
grounded in form of the hero and displayed through forms that deal with heroes, e.g., sagas, and
westerns, in television, books, and movies (Connell qtd. in Donaldson 646). To define a specific
form of masculinity as hegemonic, it is important to note that its exaltation stabilizes a structure of
dominance and oppression in the genderorder as a whole (Connell qtd. in Donaldson 646).

The Importance Of Environmental Problems On The Environment
With as many environmental problems that plague the world today, they all fall within three
different aspects of everyday life: political systems, economic systems, and material structures and
resources. The following theories conceptualize the root of environmental problems in these
different areas of society but are able to offer solutions independent of each other. In the selections
of From Welfare State to Ecostate, James Meadowcraft suggests that the key to solving
environmental problems lies within political systems and that we must rebuild those systems so
that the environmentwill be considered in every decision that gets made. Anthony Weston, in his
book Mobilizing the Green Imagination, feels that environmental problems lie in economic systems
and that the solution would be to revamp how products are made and distributed to limit the impact
that production has on the environment. Finally, in Techno Fix Michael and Joyce Huesemann see
environmental problems stemming from material structures and resources and that the way to
combat problems in this aspect is to reinvent technology that is sustainable, rather than having
society function on resources that are unsustainable (fossil fuels, for example).
To begin with, James Meadowcraft s solution can best be described as reshaping political systems
to be more ecologically conscious states. An ecological state, according to Meadowcraft, is one that
hugely considers the impact that every facet of the entire nation has on

William James Philosophies Coinciding with Today s Psychology
An admitted Moral Psychologist , James s philosophies coincide with today s fields of Humanistic
Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, and Transpersonal Psychology.
He, like Jung, dared to look outside the normal experiences of the mind and expand the concepts of
consciousness. More particularly, William James attempted to describe the processes of the
conscious rather than the definition of the conscious. He was the first to introduce our nation to
psychology as a standard educational course and the founder of pragmatism which emphasizes the
elimination of unnecessary thinking and finding truth only if it is practically applicable.

The rationale of choice involves two levels of knowing knowledge of acquaintance (an intuitive,
sensory knowing) and knowledge about (intellectual, evaluative and factual knowing). James
was particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful
education was dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in
establishing good personal habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of
course will is essential in establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and
strengthening of will were of major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish
this by practicing a useless task daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing
themselves into any activity. Desired habits can be established with repetition. He does however
recognize the occasional need to surrender the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he
believes, may induce a state of complete unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or
lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is defined by James as the place from which all our
mental processes originate and through which all our experiences are perceived. The layers of
self include the Material Self (the part of us that defines and identifies ourselves via material
goods and relationships), the Social Self (similar to Jung s persona, is the self we play in social
encounters) and the

Did you hear that scream? she asked. No. About a minute ago? Sorry, no. The lions were

time period. The kids have gotten too attached to the technology and getting whatever they want,
that when their favorite piece of technology is taken away they take harsh measures. This makes

Spanking Harmful To Children Research Paper
Is Spanking Harmful to Children?
Spanking, also known as corporal punishment is a highly controversial method of discipline that
parents currently use in an attempt to modify their children s misbehavior. This type of punishment
is not known to uplift the essence of education in children, and many parents and researchers feel
that spanking leads to developmental problems. Research studies show how spanking produces a
negative effect in children, and parents and caregivers should reconsider the use of corporal
punishment as a form of discipline for their children because of its harmful effects. In addition, there
are other, better alternatives that can be used to discipline children.

In summary, spanking and corporal punishment are two things that have many opponents. But
many argue that spanking will and can do more harm than good. According to some researchers,
spanking does cause negative effects on children. Some researchers even say spanking causes
permanent emotional and developmental problems.
Fortunately, we discovered a few alternative forms of discipline that work exceptionally well when
disciplining children. A stern look is a very effective one. Another, would be time out, removing the
child from the situation, in turn interrupting the unwanted behavior. One more would be the
removal of privileges. Taking away electronics for a short period of time is a very effective
consequence. Lastly, would be positive praise, encouraging phrases that motivate children to
behave well.
Just remember when disciplining a child it is to be done out of love to teach him or her a positive

Social Ineptitudes In Catcher In The Rye
Literature is a powerful tool that allows readers to gain perspectives and to experience firsthand
the thoughts and emotions of characters in any work. Often, it is through these works that a
person can learn a great deal towards becoming a better member of society. However, despite
Holden s affinity for the subject of English and his ability to perceive the nuances of some of the
characters from books he has read, Holden still seems unable to learn from the experiences of these
characters. Most tragically though, it is the characters with whom he tends to associate more and
with whom he feels more of a connection that demonstrate his social ineptitudes, because these
characters are in such similar situations to him. These characters are dealing with common social

Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper
Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus
GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle
stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH).
FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the
developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds
the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the
hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle.

A secondary corpus luteum develops
Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase)
progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will
diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle).
Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline.
The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted
there.
The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with
nutrients from the mother.
The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a
period.
If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature.
All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease.
Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so
GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted
into the ovarian capillaries.
This 28 day cycle will now re commence as it is

On the other hand, the use of anaphoric reference is mainly used to refer to George s mother since
she becomes the starting point of the plot s dramatic action when George confess to his friends that
his mother had caught him. There are many examples as regards that in the first part of the episode:
JERRY: So, what did she do?
GEORGE: First she screams, George, what are you doing?! My God! (...)
ELAINE: (Wide eyed) So, she fell?
ELAINE: (Between chuckles) How is she?
GEORGE: (Somewhat angered) She s in traction.

Analysis of Curiosity by Alastair Reid Essay
The poem entitled Curiosity written by Alastair Reid is a symbolic poem that uses cats as a
metaphor for humans. It relates felines to people in the sense of curiosity, and what could be
considered actually living life to the fullest. Essentially, this work contradicts the popular phrase,
curiosity killed the catby placing it within a broader context. Instead of discouraging curiosity, Reid
explains why people should embrace it. In the first stanza, the author argues that the cat may have
died from curiosity, but that it may have been a chosen death. Or else curious to see what death was
like, having no cause to go on licking paws, or fathering litter on litter of kittens, predictably. (lines,

If one has no desire to look further in life and discover new ideas or uncharted territory, they will
eventually lose the voracity for their existence. The author even goes to say that the curious are
the only ones with lives worth living and a tale worth telling. The fourth and final stanza
includes a metaphor referring to dogs, which one can assume are symbolic of the uncurious
people. Reid states that the cats, the curious, are lucky. They are nine lived and willing to
change. Consequently, they must be prepared to suffer consequences which seem worth the
escapades and excitement they may encounter. And what cats have to tell on each return from
hell is this: that dying is what the living do, that dying is what the loving do and that dead dogs
are those who do not know that dying is what, to live, each has to do. (lines 39 44) That passage
from the last stanza is the most significant of the entire poem. Reid infers that life in itself is
curiosity. If one truly believes that he or she is living, they are risking consequences. He also
conveys love as a risk involving curiosity, but that one has not lived until one experiences such
things. The dead dogs , again, are the uncurious people who simply do not understand life or love.
They are the ones who will never experience life as a cat, life as an adventure

How Is Math Used In Lacrosse
The Types of Math Used in Lacrosse
Most people would assume that soccer is the fastest game played with two feet, but actually it is
lacrosse. Math is used in the game of lacrosse in many ways, as an example the angle you shoot at
determines where the ball goes. Also, an example of math being used would be the different shapes
in the game. Like for example, the field you play on is a rectangle with different shapes and lines
to determine the foul lines, shooting lines, and the half field. Another subject of math being
involved in lacrosse is the area inside the net. This is how much space there is in the net, where the
ball could go.
In lacrosse, angles are mostly used in shooting. An angle is the space within two to three lines or

The math involved is the area inside the netting. The area is the extent or the measurement of a
surface or piece of land. The area of the boys and men s net is different because of the size of the
net. The official men s lacrosse net s size is 6 H x 6 W x 7 D. The area of the net is 69.6 square
feet, to find this out first you need to multiply the depth of 7 ft. and the height of 6 ft. which will
bring you to 42 ft. After you have done that you take the two numbers of the net, which would be
6 and 7, and you times them by themselves. This would lead you with 36 and 49. You then add
these numbers to get 85 and square root this number to get 9.2. Now if you where to times the
leftover 6 and the 9.2 you would get 55.2. After that you divide that by two to get 27.6 which would
would add to the 42 you got before and your answer would come out and be 69.6 square feet. The
lacrosse field has certain measurements and lines on it. The field is played on a 110 yd. (100 m.)
long and 60 yd. (55 m.) wide field. There are five lines or areas of the field, one of them is the
midfield line, which divides the whole field into two, so the sides are 50 m. on each side.
Another area of the field is the defense and attack area. The lines are marked 35 yards from the
end of the field. Theses markers and areas of the field are very important to the game because that

How Magic Plays in the Real World with St. Thomas Aquinas ...
St. Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican professor that began teaching at the University of Paris in
the year 1256, in theology. His works in the field of theology were greatly influenced by
Aristotle as well as Plato. His main goal in the section of his writing, Summa Contra Gentiles,
was to explain how magic was portrayed in the natural world . He was trying to show non
Christians, especially Muslims, how Catholic beliefs could be rationalized. All the documents of
St. Aquinas s that were paired together in the section of the book by the editors were detailed

Based off of Aquinas work, Summa Contra Gentiles, one would assume that he did believe in
magic, although he did not come outright and say it. Nevertheless, he informed his readers that
magicians performed their magic not just through God and heavenly ways, but also through
celestial ways. They may not have performed their magic with just God s powers help, yet they
would not have been able to perform with only celestial ways either, they came together hand in
hand. However, he explained that magic that came from the heavenly bodies was natural magic.
Therefore, anything that could not be considered natural could not have come from heaven or
God. He also went into greater detail explaining that an inanimate object could not possibly
move by itself through the powers of God or heavenly forces. Aquinas did not speak about
witches, however, his brief mention of pacts having been a necessity to speak to a demon later
brought up the issue of magicians, and even later the issue of witches signing pacts. Throughout
this work of his, he spoke only of magicians and their way of performing magic. In order to
perform their magic, he explained that they were to speak certain words to receive the outcomes
they desired. The words did not hold the power, the magician himself did. To build upon this, very
powerful magicians were able to produce what they desired simply through thought. If someone was

1993, Campbell entered the party leadership race to succeed Mulroney. Campbell had served in
four cabinet portfolios before running for the party leadership, including three years as Minister
of Justice.(Wikipedia) In the election, Campbell defeated Jean Charest that June. Campbell was
appointed Prime minister by Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn, on June 25. After the victory
over Charest, Campbell appointed Charest to Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Industry,

Campbell consolidated ministries by creating three new ministries: Health, Canadian Heritage
and Public Security. In Campbell s third month in office, an all around Canadian Poll was taken
on how much was Prime Minister Campbell was approved/ appreciated/ liked by the people.

By the end of the summer of 1993, Campbell had grown even more popular, passing Liberal
leader Jean Chretien, by a mile. Chretien s party had only single digits in popularity ranking.

A Historical Movie Need Not Be 100% True Essay
Advanced information technology is widely used in the millennium age. History is can be
reprinted, re edited and re presented (Chan, 2013). Relatively, history can be shown in a more
realistic way than before. Audience can spend few hours to have a brief understanding of history.
However, I think the motivation of making historical movie is not merely for education but
consists of other reasons. Seediq Bale will be taken as an example for elaboration. Firstly, the
movie is a review of modern value. There is a comparison between civilized (Japanese) and
uncivilized (Indigenous people). Modern education tells me civilizationis an indispensible element
for human evolution. It is a symbol of superiority. Indigenous people who are illiterate... Show more

It depreciates indigenous people. Indigenous people cannot receive fair treatment even they are
better than Japanese. Indigenous women are not respected. They need to drink with Japanese.
Government does not help them when they are raped. Money is not need in the world of
indigenous people but civilization introduces money which makes indigenous people become the
poor as they do not have money originally. Civilization introduces development so that the home
of indigenous people is mined. Their resources are deprived. Civilization introduces
secularization so that traditions and customs are prohibited. Their belief is not respected (Wei,
2011). These are different with my understanding of civilization which is contributive and
inclusive. In addition, Mona Rudo mentioned he had visited Japan. Japanese deliberately arrange
him to have dinner with his enemies to make the atmosphere nervous. He keeps kind to Japanese
when there is conflicts between Japanese and indigenous people. But Japanese never say thank
you to him. Conversely, Japanese always threat him (Wei, 2011). This reflects Japanese
civilization does not respect indigenous people. It also consists of conspiracy. Things shown
from the movie are very realistic. We are easy to misunderstand that these are 100% true. Usually,
there is a difference between projection and reality. In Seediq Bale, Mona Rudo is a hero. His
image is positive. In reality, he had cooperated with Japanese. He

Care For Health Campaign Essay
The care for health campaign was the first family planning promotion to be done in Russia and it
helped increase the use of modern contraceptives by 12%. It was part of the womenВґs
reproductive health program (WRHP) which involved training of health care providers, advocacy
and research. This intervention resulted in increase in family planningcounselling for women,
longer continuation rates of contraceptives and increase in clinic attendance for family planning in
the intervention areas. This program was birthed in 1994 by the US Agency for international
development to improve the health of children and women by promoting the change in the current

The objectives of a campaign should resonate with the strategy (Myanmar, 2013). This is the point
where one asks questions such as what do I need to do to achieve the overall goal of the
campaign? In this case, one of the campaign objectives was to increase knowledge and positive
attitudes towards modern contraceptives. In so doing, the campaign would be meeting the overall
strategy which was to bring family planning to the public arena and to highlight its importance.
Choosing an age bracket is also essential as one is able to seclude the target audience in order to
make the campaign strategy more effective. The age bracket for women chosen was 18 30. This
was also an appropriate age since it is the prime age for reproduction.
One of the activities done was to disseminate the family planning message through national
television. The airtime was donated by the prime minister then. This was effective as the message
reached women throughout Russia and the neighboring countries. The campaign also used a disco
event to promote family planning communication.

Two Elements Of Genre Analysis
1.What are some genres that you feel you know well? How did you learn them? What are their
common rhetorical features?
I think I know well a narrative genre of essays. Narrative style of writing is very interesting for
me, because mostly it is based on real life experience. In the past I had to write a lot of this kind
of assignment. I used to practice a lot, to start write good essays. With time, I understand how I
have to organize my writing assignment, and which type of vocabulary I need to use. Also,
persuasive essays are very interesting for me. They are more complicated for me. However, if you
understand well what is the main idea of the essay, and if you find a certain way to explain your

Culture And Cultural Values In African American Culture
After interpreting each participant responses to each question, I consider influences that could
affect respondents such as; society values, cultural/ subcultural values, and personal values. Starting
with question number one all respondents answered in similar ways by starting with introducing
body parts with their children. Each introduce anatomy with proper terms. Respondent number two
said silly names shows society not being comfortable talking about sex. Respondents one and two
are both sexual health educators which has affected how they raise their children. Depending on
culture, sex is not easy topic for parent or children be open and comfortable. Respondent one and
three is African Americanwomen. In this sub cultural, sex it not something you discuss with
parents until you are much older. But personal I see it as they are breaking habits in African
American culture. Respondent number three in my opinion answered in fear of someone
touching her children. I believe that her responses were hyper sensitive and could relate to
trauma or personal experience. We ve talked about fear in our class and how powerful it can be.
Although, each participant started having the sex talk with their kids the ages slightly differed in a
year or two when the sex talk was delivered to children.
Question number two, all respondent s replies are similar about discussing age appropriateness
based off their opinions. As the child grows the conversation will grow and develop. My female

Origin of Amber Alerts
Name Origin of Amber Alerts December 9, 2010 Research Paper I m sure we all can admit that
we have changed the channel on the television when those loud Amber Alerts float across the
screen, but do we really know exactly what they re for or how they were created? It may hurt to
know what you ve been ignoring. The creation of Amber Alerts is rather interesting and as well as
heartbreaking but first, let s get an idea of what the Amber Alert is for. The amber alert is a
notification system to law enforcement and the media about child abductions. The purpose of
Amber alerts is to notify the public when a child has been abducted and is in danger. They use

Their next act in making it a more effective program is the Instant Amber. With Instant Amber,
parents are able to have another tool to help them if they ever need it in an emergency such as a
child goes missing because all the information is gathered beforehand as a preemptive strike. By
2005, a national alert system coordinated by the U.S Department of Justice extended all 50
states. In 2006, the U.S Postal Service issued a stamp to supporting of the Amber Alerts. These
stamps are not just in honor of Amber but for all the abducted children. After all, Amber stands
for America s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. The stamp dedication ceremony was
held in Washington, D.C. They also had a separate ceremony in Arlington, Texas at the
hometown of little Amber Hagerman. Amber s mother feels Amber would be very proud and it
would make it feel as if she is a guardian angel watching over children, making them sure they get
home safe. Even though, Amber s story didn t have a happy ending, the Amber Alerts do help
many abducted children out there. In the United States, they have saved 525 children since the
program was created. You have to remember the fact of the time lapse most children are
murdered in. The statistics for the U.S is 797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported
missing in a one year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being
reported missing each day. 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions.

Essay about The Natural
Bernard Malamud was brought up in the mid 1900s, a time period when baseball played a huge
role in the lives of many Americans. Americans loved baseball because it gave them a chance to
stop working and simply relax while they cheered on their favorite team. It was a time when
people played baseball solely for the love of the game and the thrill of hearing the fans cheer for
them. Today, however, baseball is much more corrupt, and many athletes are only in it due to their
own greed and selfishness. This strong desire for money stems from some important players in the
past, such as Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio, who were outstanding athletes and grew very
overconfident in their abilities. They became so confident that they began to demand... Show more

Kevin Baker described him as staggering in his self absorption (Baker, xii). This means that he
is confident to the point that he believes he can do everything himself, and doesn t care about the
rest of his team. Roy is also a very greedy man, and his greed is accentuated by his baseball skills.
For example, Roy s contract entitled him to make three thousand dollars for the season. Within
a few weeks, he decided that this was not enough, so he spoke with the team owner about a raise.
In the novel, it says that: He figured for himself a flat forty five thousand dollars for the rest of
the season (Malamud, 89). Forty five thousand dollars is more than most baseball players made
in an entire season, and he was asking for this astronomical amount for only half of a season.
Each of these traits can be considered one of Roy s tragic flaws. His greed and his self confidence
both contribute to his downfall at the end of the novel, in which he is humiliated due to his
acceptance of a bribe to throw an important game and lose the pennant. In the New York Times, an
article written by Harry Sylvester stated: Roy Hobbs almost achieved greatness, but was distracted
or betrayed by people, objects, or events equated with elements in our environment (Sylvester,

Living Like Weasels Rhetorical Analysis
Living Like Weasels Rhetorical Analysis In her essay Living Like Weasels , Annie Dillard
explores the idea of following a single calling in life, and attaching one s self it this calling as the
weasel on Ernest Thompson Seton s eagle had. Dillard presents her argument using the analogy
of a weasel and how the; weasel lives as he s meant to, yielding at every moment to the perfect
freedom of single necessity (Dillard). In constructing her argument, however, she often contradicts
herself undermining the effectiveness of her argument and leaving the reader confused. Dillard
primarily uses ethos and pathos to support her argument and concerning both, the reader
discovers; inconsistencies in her character, and conflicts between her perceptions of the weasel s
emotions and its actions. Concerning her ethos, Dillard presents herself as a part of suburbia and
then is suddenly, inexplicably overcome by the desire to live wild. Dillard also uses very detailed
language throughout the essay in describing her surroundings and thoughts, however; this further
undermines her argument and ethos as she is trying to convince the reader that she could simply
become as simple and single minded as the weasel she has focused her argument around. With her
use of pathos, Dillard begins her essay with descriptions of the weasel s brutality, yet; she
concludes by stating the weasel lives as is necessary. By simplifying her experience and presenting
a reasonable explanation for why she wanted to

Minoan Crete Research Paper
The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge
labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the
power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social,
economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their
various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake
shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces
were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature
and desire to live in a world of light and charm.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic
culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC,
when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean.
Mycenaean artifacts have been found well outside the limits of the Mycenaean world: namely
Mycenaean swords are know from as far away as Georgia in the Caucasus and Mycenaean bronze
double axes and other objects dating from 13th century BCE have been found in Ireland and in

Not only did the Mycenae ans defeat the Minoans, but according to later Hellenic legend they
defeated Troy ,presented in epic as a city state that rivaled Mycenae in power. Because the only
evidence for the conquests is Homer s lliad and other texts steeped in mythology, the existence for
Troy and the historicity of the Trojan War is uncertain. Mycenae ans were buried in a sitting
position, and some of the nobility underwent mummification, whereas Homer s Achilles and
Patroclus were not buried but cremated, in Iron Age fashion, and honoured with gold urns instead

Fair Tax Reform
The push for a tax reform continues to be a popular topic. Many people see the current structure
as inequitable and complex. The new proposed tax structure that has been gaining attention is
called the Fair Tax Act. It would institute a national sales tax at a rate of 23% if it were enacted.
The idea is to make the taxstructure more simplistic and spread out the tax burden. Another
interesting proposed change relates to tax brackets. These brackets would no longer be needed to
decide rates on taxable income. Investments will also be much different and potentially have a
greater economic impact because the tax on capital gains and property will no longer be in
existence. These are just a few of the changes that could occur with... Show more content on

People would be getting taxed on what they spend since it is a sales tax, similar to what is seen
now. It would be much higher, but people would also be receiving a much higher paycheck. This
would help to prevent double taxation that periodically occurs. Spending habits will become
important to watch and see if people will want to spend less to prevent paying taxes. However,
less spending may have a questionable impact on the economy and for businesses. This could also
affect the amount of funding government programs would receive in the new form of taxation
proposed in the Fair Tax Act rather than having federal taxes withheld, such as FICA taxes.
Investments will also be treated differently. The current tax structure has a tax on the gain of long
term assets at a preferential rate. This reduces the actual gain made on investments. However, the
Fair Tax Act would no longer have a tax on capital gains. There would be fewer restrictions and
have the ability move them more freely. This would be a much different structure than the current
structure and provide more of an economic impact.
The Fair Tax Act would bring about many changes to the tax system. It would be a large change to
the tax process and provide different attributes for the economy. Some of these key changes would
bring about new behaviors and affect how society functions as a

Synaptic Geotechnical Factors Influencing The Standard...
In fact, several synaptic geotechnical factors influence the standard penetration test results of
similar sand soils. Testing procedures attribute part of these mutations, therefore, normalizing the
results to a standard rod energy ratio usually eliminate such processes quandaries (e.g., Skempton,
1986). Frequently, changes in test methods, samplers, hammers, and rods lead to corresponding
variations in N values due to the generated energy losses. Numerous researchers (e.g., Daniel et al.,
2003 and Skempton, 1986) suggested a standard dynamic energy about 60% of the hammer
potential energy (475J) to improve such losses as shown below: [1] Where ENTHRU is, the

The overview has revealed that there is no standard quantitative description in the geotechnical
domain utilized to characterize the particle s shape. In other words, since there is no standard
quantitative description employed in the geotechnical domain for the particle s shape,
ignorance took place. Nevertheless, many researchers (e.g., Michell and Soga, 2005; Arasan et
al., 2010, and Rodriguez et al., 2013) agreed to define the particle shape as shown in Figure 1
and Table 2. Furthermore, Table 3 illustrates some definitions for quantitative descriptors
mentioned by many authors. Santamarina and Cho, 2001 2004; Cho et al., 2006, and RosГ© et
al., 2008 manifested the influence of the particle s roundness R on the void ratio range of
different sands, as illustrated in Figure 2a. While Miura et al. 1997 1998 proposed A2D to the
correlations of the void ratio range at a specific given D50, as shown in Figure 2b, also, they
pointed out that most of the natural sand samples have A2D between 300 600. Additionally,
Chapuis, 2012, proposed empirical formulas for emax and emin with the roundness factor of the
particles as in Equations 12 13 respectively depending on data gathered by Youd, 1973, and
Krumbein and Sloss, 1963. [12] [13] On the other hand, the problem not only the

What Is Poverty In The United States

Poverty can affect all race, gender, society, and community. However, if this does occur, no one

family that will reap this unfavorable thing. Unfortunately, povertyin the United Statescan attack a
household at any time. Once this happens, poverty can last for a lifetime or a certain period of
time. According to the text, every person has an one in five chance of being poor in any given

  • 2. Cultural Aspects Of Sexy Salsa Dance As different groups of people move from one geographic location to another, they bring various aspects of their heritage with them, including the dance forms characteristic of their culture. While in a new location, these cultural aspects can serve to unify people of a common ethnicity, giving them a physical expression of their collective identity. On the other hand, when a minority group of people practices its danceforms in a new geographic location, dominant groups of people often adopt them. Failing to understand the social significance and original meanings of such dances, the majority group appropriates several aspects of the dance forms while changing other aspects in order to make them fit better within its cultural ideologies. In this way, cultural appropriation of dance forms dissolves some of their original cultural meanings, as is exemplified by the transmission of salsa dance from a Latin American social dance to a Western ballroom dance, changing its nature from an expression of cultural unity to an exotic experience. Performed primarily in social dance clubs, salsa is a fluid and dynamic dance. The movement of the dancers originates from their hips, which move constantly throughout the dance (Sexy Salsa Dancing). This in turn leads to the dancers having a dynamic and flexible spine, weight shifts propelled by core body movement often resulting in weight suspended between the feet, [and] flexed knees and a lower center of gravity (Malnig 304). • 5. War Is Kind Analysis War is seen as disturbing, violent, depressing and stressful. Although some may think of it as honorable or may even welcome their own death in a war because of the glory that can come with it, others believe in the protest against the brutal acts of war. Several writers such as Stephen Crane, Wilfred Owen, Tim O Brien, and Kevin Powers are especially known to protest against war through their forms of writing. In order to strengthen their arguments and persuade audiences to prevent acts of war, they use techniques such as imagery, irony and structure to reveal the disturbing truths behind war. Imagery is one of the most powerful tools that writers try to use when protesting war because it serves as a simpler way to present clearer images... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although structure is a complex tool to use when trying to support an argument, it can serve as one of the most impactful tools that authors can use because it is sets up their form of writing and presents the audience with a specific style. The style that is created from the writer s structure is what affects the reader s mindset on the topic of the writing. For example, if a writing s structure is set up like a list, then the reader is most likely going to believe that the author is just trying to get to each of his or her points without trying to make the reader feel any emotion and so their writing is going to sound dull or bland. The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien has a structure set up just like that type of list. His list consists of the necessities that soldiers carried to war such as P 38 can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags, mosquito repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes, salt tablets, packets of Kool Aid, lighters, matches, sewing kits, Military Payment Certificates, C rations, and two or three canteens of water (2). O Brien uses a list to help create his structure by implying that most of this equipment can not help them and the tone it creates is straightforward to imply the dull aspects of war. O Brien also uses parallel structure with his lists to emphasize the items they carried by creating a feeling of repetitiveness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Reflection Of Speech Now that day two speakers have finished their speeches, I have considered the feedback given about my speech and compared it to other speakers in the class. I reviewed in my head what I did wrong and went back in my mind to remember those speakers who I believed did better than me in the categories I scored low in. We learn from each other s strengths as well as our mistakes. Accordingly, chapter ten focuses on the beginning and ending a speech. An effective introduction gets the speakeroff on the right foot. The right foot means that the speaker has accomplished the goal of a great hook to attract the audiences attention. A speaker s introduction is a way to make the audience feel intrigued and want to continue listening so that he or she will feel as though what is about to be said is to benefit them. An effective conclusion ends the speech on a strong note. The strong note is the speaker going back to review what was previously said so that the audience can remember that information and use it somehow in a way that the speaker intended it to be used. During my speech, I felt that greeting my peers and informing them on what I will be speaking about, which was introducing my partner, would be a great start for my audience to be awake and to feel included on what they will be putting their attention on. Out of the eight methods in the first objective, I used the last one which was gaining their attention by referring to the occasion. I introduced the fact that my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Self Regulation over Government Regulation on The... How involved should the Government be when it comes to regulation of the Internet? There are many different issues regarding internet regulation. Should Internet users be responsible for controlling how they use the Internet? Since the internet has been introduced to Americans there have been many debates on how involved the Government shouldbe in regulating topics such as violent games, gambling, and sexual content. The Internet is a very useful source for many things. It has almost become a way of life for some people It has faded out things such as post offices, shopping malls and even telephones to some extent. So since it has become such an asset in peoples lives then should there be laws to prevent chaos on the Internet? People ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what should the Government do? The Government has power to control who can gamble and who can purchace certain items at a casino or store but how can the government possibly stop a teenager from doing this online? It needs to be up to the parent to control how their child uses the Internet. Another issue is video games on the internet. There are a lot of violent video games now days, most of which you have to be eighteen to purchase. There are also a lot of violent video games on the Internet that you have to be eighteen to play but all you have to do is check the little box that says yes I am eighteen or over, and who would know any different but that person? A lot of people are very adament about self regulation. Any other kind of government regulation on the internet would be a very long process. It s not just the U.S. that has access to this tool. It is the World Wide Web, meanig it s world wide. There would need to be some sort of committee formed and it would have to consist of officials from different countries in order to have any law or regulation because the Internet does not belong to the U.S., it belongs to the world. Self regulation is, I believe, the best kind of regulation for the Internet. If a parent does not want their child playing violent video games or downloading pornographic images then ... • 8. Pine Barrens Research Papers What is the Pine Barrens? The Pine Barrens is a region of land filled with wildlife, and many important industries that contribute to everyday life. This miraculous area is found in New Jersey, in the United States, and it covers 22% of the state. Lots of animals and many different varieties of plants call this massive area home. Trees, such as the pitch pine, have adapted to the fire hazard area by the way their appearance is. Many other animals and plants have also done the same to adapt to this environment. This past May, I (along with my whole sixth grade), took a trip to Camp Ockanickon and spent three days there in the cabins that were separated by boys and girls. We were assigned activities each day and there were a variety of lessons... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you take a close look at this area, you ll find many other animal species and habitats that will leave you speechless wondering how they could survive in a habitat. In fact, in the Pine Barrens, there is a total of 39 species of mammals, 299 birds, 59 reptiles, and 91 fish that have been spotted. All of these animals contribute to the ecosystem by participating in the food chain, and even some individual animals help us as well. Bees suck in a type of liquid called nectar from a flower blossom, and store it in what s known as the honey stomach, which differs from their food stomach. Once they have a full load, they bring it back to their hive. Next time when you see a bee flying around you, or near a flower, don t swat at it. Instead, watch and see how it collects the pollen we use for honey. Worms are another example of animals that can be found in the Pine Barrens that helps the ecosystem as well. They help aerate (which means to allow air into) the soil so that the roots of plants can have access to better oxygen that they need in order to survive. All around you in the Pine Barrens, you see tons of trees. You can thank a couple forgetful squirrels for those. Each year, these squirrels carelessly drop acorns or stash their supply throughout yards and forests of the Pine Barrens ecosystem. Eventually, those seeds will sprout into a tree that will continue to grow and adapt to be part of the ecosystem over time. Nature relies on this process from squirrels to continuously drop and stash more acorns to keep the growth of trees continuing, since the acorns canВґt move on their own to be ... • 9. The Differences Between Stocks And Bonds First Personal Assignment Americans have a lot of options when it comes to where they put their money. Two of these options are stocks and bonds. This paper will serve as a discussion on the topic of the advantages and the disadvantages of both stocks and bonds. This discourse will attempt to compare the differences between stocks and bonds, as well as incorporating various advantages and disadvantages to each investment. Some of the basic differences between a stock and a bond include would be that stocks are normally issues by a company or corporation. Bonds, however, can be issued by corporations and companies or they can be issued by the government. Stocks can pose more of a risk because they pay their investors dividends, which are not always guaranteed. The only way a bonds would not pay out dividends to its investors is if the company or organization had to go bankrupt. Overall, there is more safety in bonds than what one would receive with stocks. Advantages of investing in stocks One of the primary reasons why stock prices go up or down, is essentially, the profitability of the company. LearninMarkets.com (2009) lists four advantages of investing in stocks. The first advantage is compound interest. Compound interest is a miracle of the financial world. Compound interest, when given time, helps your money grow faster and faster (learningmarkets.com, 2009, pg.1). • 10. Essay About Houston Beatriz Gaona Prof. Andrew Tolle ENGL 1301 41028 17 September 2017 Houstonians A poem written by South Carolina pastor, Jeremy Rutledge has given readers a lot to think about. The poem was composed after the great Hurricane Harvey tragedy in Houston. In his poem Rutledge mentions the word pray many times but the meaning of it goes way beyond that. When praying for something it is important to know the aspects and struggles of it, and that is exactly what Rutledge is doing in this poem, stating all the things that make Houston unique, diverse, and capable to rise from it all. Throughout the entire poem Rutledge suggests just how diverse Houston is. For instance, the lines, pray like you re sitting over Soup at Spanish Flowers or pho at Mai s steaming your glasses are great examples of this. The difference between both cuisines is huge emphasizing diversity. For example, Spanish Flowers is a Mexican restaurant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By putting BeyoncГ© in the poem Rutledge universalizes Houston and reaches out to a whole other group other than Houston itself. Rutledge also implies that like BeyoncГ© Houston can rise from nothing. Along the same lines, Rutledge says you can fill up our bayou but you will never rain on our parade . Meaning Hurricane Harvey can rain and flood their river but never lower their spirits. Just like BeyoncГ© fell many times but stayed strong and rose from it all. • 11. The Greatest Influence Of A Leader As I try to think of the person who has had the most influence as a leader in my life two people promptly come to mind. The first is my father, Cornelius Sims aka Bull, and the second is Robert Johns. Robert Johns was my mission president when I served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo East Mission. Both have been superior examples of a leader in my life. Both have loved me and shown me patience in times where I was more than difficult. Both have been excellent examples of a daddy and a husband. With that said, I have decided to write about my father in this paper. However, there have been a plethora of events in which he demonstrated leadership in my life. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been many of these stories which were hilarious and I enjoy hearing them over and over, others were not so fun to hear. My father is a hardworking man as well as a familyman. He was a strong proponent of discipline for his children and expected us to be respectful and to obey the rules. My earliest memories of my father were him working at Louisiana Downs, during the racing season, as an assistant horse trainer and as a semi truck driver during the down time. He would often take my older sister and me to the track or in the semi with him so we could work with him. He was well respected at the track and people were naturally drawn to him. It may have been his big smile, which he does not like to share in pictures, his stories, or his willingness to help others and the respect he expressed to others. In 1985, my parents decided to move the family to Fairbanks, Alaska which is where the majority of my mother s family was living. My father drove my mom, my older sister, and me to California where we met up with my aunt and her family to continue the drive to Alaska. • 13. Benefits Of The American Dream The American dream is something people, mainly immigrants, strive to reach. People all over see the Americas as a magical place, or a place of unlimited opportunities that everyone wants to have. The American dream is a dream of getting ahead... (the right to fail, William Zinsser). What provides for the American dream in modern day society is the rights given to you when you become an American, and the rights to get a job and earn money. The American Dream is accessible because those who can achieve it, and those who try to, can reach it. but because the focus has shifted to realistic terms, it may or may not be accessible to all. It is still accessible because if you try hard enough, you will be able to achieve the American dream of freedom, a home, a job for money, and anything else you wish to be able to do when being an American. Anything can be achieved if you try hard enough and you wantit bad enough to work for it. If you don t try to work, or try to succeed, then you don t want to achieve the American dream. The American Dream is accessible to all because if you try hard enough, you will be able to achieve the American dream of freedom, a home, a job, or money. Barack Obama, our former President of America, once said I believe we can give our middle class relief and provide working families with a road to opportunities (Barack Obama, Keynote address 2004).This illustrates the concept that all Americans can be given the chance to succeed and have opportunities that they deserve as an American. success and failure are again becoming individual visions, as they were when the country was younger, not rigid categories. Maybe we are learning again to cherish the right of every person to succeed on his own terms and to fail as often as necessary on the way. (The right to fail, William Zinsser). This quote means that people are beginning to understand that it is okay to fail as long as you try to succeed. there are many different interpretations of the American dream, like the one that Anzia Yezierska believes in America and I. The American Dream is accessible to all because Anything can be achieved if you try hard enough and you want it bad enough to work for it, but some people don t know that. ... Homophobia and heterosexuality form the foundation for hegemonic masculinity and all comprehension of its meaning is predicated on the feminist insight that in general the relationship of men to women is oppressive (644). Hegemonic masculinity is grounded in form of the hero and displayed through forms that deal with heroes, e.g., sagas, and westerns, in television, books, and movies (Connell qtd. in Donaldson 646). The Importance Of Environmental Problems On The Environment With as many environmental problems that plague the world today, they all fall within three different aspects of everyday life: political systems, economic systems, and material structures and resources. The following theories conceptualize the root of environmental problems in these different areas of society but are able to offer solutions independent of each other. In the selections of From Welfare State to Ecostate, James Meadowcraft suggests that the key to solving environmental problems lies within political systems and that we must rebuild those systems so that the environmentwill be considered in every decision that gets made. Anthony Weston, in his book Mobilizing the Green Imagination, feels that environmental problems lie in economic systems and that the solution would be to revamp how products are made and distributed to limit the impact that production has on the environment. Finally, in Techno Fix Michael and Joyce Huesemann see environmental problems stemming from material structures and resources and that the way to combat problems in this aspect is to reinvent technology that is sustainable, rather than having society function on resources that are unsustainable (fossil fuels, for example). James was particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful education was dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in establishing good personal habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of course will is essential in establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and strengthening of will were of major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish this by practicing a useless task daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing themselves into any activity. Desired habits can be established with repetition. He does however recognize the occasional need to surrender the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he believes, may induce a state of complete unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is defined by James as the place from which all our mental processes originate and through which all our experiences are perceived. Taking away electronics for a short period of time is a very effective consequence. Lastly, would be positive praise, encouraging phrases that motivate children to behave well. Social Ineptitudes In Catcher In The Rye Literature is a powerful tool that allows readers to gain perspectives and to experience firsthand the thoughts and emotions of characters in any work. Often, it is through these works that a person can learn a great deal towards becoming a better member of society. However, despite Holden s affinity for the subject of English and his ability to perceive the nuances of some of the characters from books he has read, Holden still seems unable to learn from the experiences of these characters. Most tragically though, it is the characters with whom he tends to associate more and with whom he feels more of a connection that demonstrate his social ineptitudes, because these characters are in such similar situations to him. These characters are dealing with common social issues like sexuality, emotionality, and alienation issues that Holden experiences time and time again yet he does not learn from the struggles these characters are experiencing, and thus is incapable of applying them to his own life.... Gonadtrophin Releasing Hormone Research Paper Gonadtrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) is made in the hypothalamus GnRH is released into the anterior pituitary gland and here it stimulates the production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and lutenising hormone (LH). FSH and LH are able to enter the follicle (a fluid filled cavity that surrounds and protects the developing egg cell) through the capillaries in the ovaries. The cycle begins when the female sheds the lining of the uterus in a period. This continues for 3 7 days and GnRH is secreted by the hypothalamus from the first day of the cycle. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A secondary corpus luteum develops Progesterone is the most important hormone as after ovulation (during the luteal phase) progesterone levels will increase slowly. This will suppress the GnRH release which in turn will diminish the release of LH and FSH (these hormones are not required at this stage of the cycle). Having reached its optimum level Oestrogen will now slowly decline. The main effect of progesterone is that it stimulates endometrium growth if an egg is implanted there. The follicle will continue to produce progesterone to form a placenta which supplies the foetus with nutrients from the mother. The decrease in progesterone and oestrogen means the endometrium will shed its lining. This is a period. If ovulation does not occur the corpus luteum degenerates to allow a new set of follicles to mature. All the hormones produced by the corpus luteum will decrease. Progesterone will decrease during degeneration so it will not be able to inhibit GnRH release so GnRH levels will rise and this will allow a new cycle to commence as FSH and LH are secreted into the ovarian capillaries. This 28 day cycle will now re commence as it is

  • 38. Analysis of Curiosity by Alastair Reid Essay The poem entitled Curiosity written by Alastair Reid is a symbolic poem that uses cats as a metaphor for humans. It relates felines to people in the sense of curiosity, and what could be considered actually living life to the fullest. Essentially, this work contradicts the popular phrase, curiosity killed the catby placing it within a broader context. Instead of discouraging curiosity, Reid explains why people should embrace it. In the first stanza, the author argues that the cat may have died from curiosity, but that it may have been a chosen death. Or else curious to see what death was like, having no cause to go on licking paws, or fathering litter on litter of kittens, predictably. (lines, 2 5) Basically, the author is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one has no desire to look further in life and discover new ideas or uncharted territory, they will eventually lose the voracity for their existence. The author even goes to say that the curious are the only ones with lives worth living and a tale worth telling. The fourth and final stanza includes a metaphor referring to dogs, which one can assume are symbolic of the uncurious people. Reid states that the cats, the curious, are lucky. They are nine lived and willing to change. Consequently, they must be prepared to suffer consequences which seem worth the escapades and excitement they may encounter. And what cats have to tell on each return from hell is this: that dying is what the living do, that dying is what the loving do and that dead dogs are those who do not know that dying is what, to live, each has to do. (lines 39 44) That passage from the last stanza is the most significant of the entire poem. Reid infers that life in itself is curiosity. If one truly believes that he or she is living, they are risking consequences. He also conveys love as a risk involving curiosity, but that one has not lived until one experiences such things. The dead dogs , again, are the uncurious people who simply do not understand life or love. They are the ones who will never experience life as a cat, life as an adventure ... Math is used in the game of lacrosse in many ways, as an example the angle you shoot at determines where the ball goes. Also, an example of math being used would be the different shapes in the game. Like for example, the field you play on is a rectangle with different shapes and lines to determine the foul lines, shooting lines, and the half field. The area is the extent or the measurement of a surface or piece of land. The area of the boys and men s net is different because of the size of the net. The official men s lacrosse net s size is 6 H x 6 W x 7 D. The area of the net is 69.6 square feet, to find this out first you need to multiply the depth of 7 ft. and the height of 6 ft. which will bring you to 42 ft. After you have done that you take the two numbers of the net, which would be 6 and 7, and you times them by themselves. This would lead you with 36 and 49. You then add these numbers to get 85 and square root this number to get 9.2. Now if you where to times the leftover 6 and the 9.2 you would get 55.2. After that you divide that by two to get 27.6 which would would add to the 42 you got before and your answer would come out and be 69.6 square feet. Based off of Aquinas work, Summa Contra Gentiles, one would assume that he did believe in magic, although he did not come outright and say it. Nevertheless, he informed his readers that magicians performed their magic not just through God and heavenly ways, but also through celestial ways. They may not have performed their magic with just God s powers help, yet they would not have been able to perform with only celestial ways either, they came together hand in hand. However, he explained that magic that came from the heavenly bodies was natural magic. Therefore, anything that could not be considered natural could not have come from heaven or God. He also went into greater detail explaining that an inanimate object could not possibly move by itself through the powers of God or heavenly forces. Aquinas did not speak about witches, however, his brief mention of pacts having been a necessity to speak to a demon later brought up the issue of magicians, and even later the issue of witches signing pacts. Throughout this work of his, he spoke only of magicians and their way of performing magic. In order to perform their magic, he explained that they were to speak certain words to receive the outcomes they desired. The words did not hold the power, the magician himself did. To build upon this, very powerful magicians were able to produce what they desired simply through thought. If someone was able to make what they wanted to happen with words ... Americans loved baseball because it gave them a chance to stop working and simply relax while they cheered on their favorite team. It was a time when people played baseball solely for the love of the game and the thrill of hearing the fans cheer for them. Today, however, baseball is much more corrupt, and many athletes are only in it due to their own greed and selfishness. Within a few weeks, he decided that this was not enough, so he spoke with the team owner about a raise. Concerning her ethos, Dillard presents herself as a part of suburbia and then is suddenly, inexplicably overcome by the desire to live wild. Dillard also uses very detailed language throughout the essay in describing her surroundings and thoughts, however; this further undermines her argument and ethos as she is trying to convince the reader that she could simply become as simple and single minded as the weasel she has focused her argument around. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. However, less spending may have a questionable impact on the economy and for businesses. This could also affect the amount of funding government programs would receive in the new form of taxation proposed in the Fair Tax Act rather than having federal taxes withheld, such as FICA taxes. Investments will also be treated differently. The current tax structure has a tax on the gain of long term assets at a preferential rate. This reduces the actual gain made on investments. However, the Fair Tax Act would no longer have a tax on capital gains. There would be fewer restrictions and have the ability move them more freely. This would be a much different structure than the current structure and provide more of an economic impact. The Fair Tax Act would bring about many changes to the tax system. It would be a large change to the tax process and provide different attributes for the economy. Some of these key changes would bring about new behaviors and affect how society functions as a ... • 53. Synaptic Geotechnical Factors Influencing The Standard... In fact, several synaptic geotechnical factors influence the standard penetration test results of similar sand soils. Testing procedures attribute part of these mutations, therefore, normalizing the results to a standard rod energy ratio usually eliminate such processes quandaries (e.g., Skempton, 1986). Frequently, changes in test methods, samplers, hammers, and rods lead to corresponding variations in N values due to the generated energy losses. Numerous researchers (e.g., Daniel et al., 2003 and Skempton, 1986) suggested a standard dynamic energy about 60% of the hammer potential energy (475J) to improve such losses as shown below: [1] Where ENTHRU is, the measured dynamic energy transmitted from the hammer to the drilling rods.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overview has revealed that there is no standard quantitative description in the geotechnical domain utilized to characterize the particle s shape. In other words, since there is no standard quantitative description employed in the geotechnical domain for the particle s shape, ignorance took place. Nevertheless, many researchers (e.g., Michell and Soga, 2005; Arasan et al., 2010, and Rodriguez et al., 2013) agreed to define the particle shape as shown in Figure 1 and Table 2. Furthermore, Table 3 illustrates some definitions for quantitative descriptors mentioned by many authors. Santamarina and Cho, 2001 2004; Cho et al., 2006, and RosГ© et al., 2008 manifested the influence of the particle s roundness R on the void ratio range of different sands, as illustrated in Figure 2a. While Miura et al. 1997 1998 proposed A2D to the correlations of the void ratio range at a specific given D50, as shown in Figure 2b, also, they pointed out that most of the natural sand samples have A2D between 300 600. Additionally, Chapuis, 2012, proposed empirical formulas for emax and emin with the roundness factor of the particles as in Equations 12 13 respectively depending on data gathered by Youd, 1973, and Krumbein and Sloss, 1963. • 54. What Is Poverty In The United States Poverty The existing of poverty in the United States is very prominent even in the 21st century. Poverty can affect all race, gender, society, and community. However, if this does occur, no one particular person is exempt from it. There is no labeling on who will be the next individual or family that will reap this unfavorable thing. Unfortunately, povertyin the United Statescan attack a household at any time. Once this happens, poverty can last for a lifetime or a certain period of time. According to the text, every person has an one in five chance of being poor in any given year, but poverty in one year does not predict poverty in the future years (p. 180). The text describes this poverty has short term or long term. It depends on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
