How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My magazine represents my target audience as people who like Film and
television as well as music made for them and music that already existed but was
then used in the motion media. My particular issue of MUSICinMOTION
represents the particular group of my target audience who like horror films as
well as music that has less lyrics but more instrumental effects in them. The main
cover line can represent them as the almost stereotypical rebellious people who
like to make their own choices and who can be stubborn in doing so. This is seen
by the largest work on my front cover “UPRISING”. In addition to this the cover
lines can also represent the people who like to stay informed about their
interests which in the case of my magazine is info about the music and film
genre. My magazine can represent my target audience as the majority kind of
people on social networking sites.
The colour used on my front cover can represent the target audience as the
stereotypical Goth’s and emos that like all things dark and to other people
appear like they are selfless people. However this assumption is wrong as my
hybrid genre magazine is representing the people who like horror films and
television as well as the music that is featured and composed for them. The use
of the purple in magazine is to represent and attract the female side of my target
audience to read about the singer and actress than is listed on the cover lines of
my front cover. The cover lines can represent them as people who want to be
inspired by people who not only starred and composed for the film but by the
people who made the film and the overall experience of seeing the film. Also the
embedded enigma code which is the only colour part of the image of the front
cover attracts the people who like little ‘Easter Eggs’ such as things like enigma
codes etc. This represents them as the film buffs who appear to know it all when
they actually want to just learn about and films they’ve seen or want to see. As
well as wanting to stay informed and to find out information about the films that
have not been spoken about much in the social media and news.
The main images of my hybrid genre magazine can represent the target audience
as people who like death, horror films and possibly blood and gore. However the
cover lines and conventions through out my magazine works against this. The
use of the main images being in black and white could look like a reference to the
old films before full colour film and colour television. In addition to this the main
images represent a female as a lead role that has the most power through out the
magazine and in the film they are starring in. The cover lines support this as they
explain the actress to also being the composer as well as someone who has
broken the stereotypical convention of lead roles in films being male.
