2. The clear colour scheme for this page is red, black and
white, which is the colour scheme throughout these
pages. It is reinforced on this page having been featured
initially on the front page.
The heading of this page is “CONTENTS” in capital
lettering, which is used to clearly show what this page
entails. It is evident that this is the contents page, where
the articles throughout the magazine are shown, in
correlation to which page they can be found on. It is
enclosed inside a red rectangular box. It is on the right side
of the page because I am breaking conventions, as the
contents page of Q has “Contents” in the upper left corner
and mine is now in the upper right corner.
3. In the upper left hand corner, I have “ANTHEM” in red,
capital lettering. This is in the same region as where Q has
its logo on its contents page, therefore I am following
conventions. This reminds my target audience of pop rock
fans of Q (a popular pop rock magazine) which they now
associate with my magazines, therefore they know my
magazine must be high quality, similar to Q.
I included a line across the top of the page, interrupted a ¼
of the way through by the Anthem masthead. This makes
the masthead stand out more and be more easily visible.
4. This image of the “Triton Twins” sums up who they are. In this
fictional magazine they are twins, hence why the models are the
same skin complexion. The pair are fighting over a prop microphone,
which shows their childish, playful, possessive side therefore
confirming their close, sibling relationship. They are in smart clothes
such as blazers which appeals to the pop rock theme in which my
target audience are here to see. Blazers were worn by pop rock
bands such as the Beatles, therefore these outfits reinforce that
theme.
Underneath the blazers they are wearing plain white t shirts, which
shows the informal side of rock, conveying their youthfulness and
juvenile side, which appeals to the 15-30 year old age demographic
of my target audience.
They are fighting over a microphone, which shows that they are
involved with music, as a microphone is synonymous with music.
5. This image is of the fictional Mr P, he is wearing a suit without a tie or
the top button done up which shows he wears smart clothes, but also
has an edgy side to him, which is iconic rock and roll, which is known
for its rebellious themes. He is holding an electric guitar which appeals
to the target audience, as they are interested in pop rock, and electric
guitars are stereotypically related to the pop rock genre.
He is wearing sunglasses which suggests secrecy and mystery, which
entices the reader to read more. He is holding the guitar as if he is
hugging it, holding it close to him with two hands. This shows how
important pop rock music is for him, which reflects onto the target
audience, who are interested in pop rock.
6. I shot this photograph to illustrate the fictional singer, Nina
Starr. I shot using the rule of thirds compositional
technique to push her into the left hand third of the shot.
The story behind her character is that she was depressed
and music saved her, therefore this photo should help
symbolise that. It does this by covering some of her face in
dark hair, which symbolises her hiding from the camera
and the audience, showing her anxiety and fear.
7. The red rectangular box comes out of the photos which are
used to show what article and page the picture correlates to.
The red box reinforces the colour scheme. I had it coming out
from different directions to make it more interesting, to have
something that the eye finds more interesting, not just have it
all on the same side of the page. It is not conventional as usually
magazine contents pages have contents on one side of the
page, and a main CVI image on the other side.
I also have a circle which displays the fact that readers are able
to win Harry Hooton concert tickets can be won on page 25.
This is used to make the reader want to read the magazine
further, and encourages the reader to interact with the
magazine through contacting them for tickets, which is an
example of exchange.
8. I included the social media links at the bottom, which
creates synergy as the brand’s online personality can
combine with its magazine. They promote eachother and
work hand in hand. This is helpful here because the target
audience is made up of 15-30 year olds, who will know
how to use the internet, and will be very active on it.
The website is also featured at the bottom, which is
reoccurring as it was also found on the front page. This
also reinforces the internet’s involvement and conjunction
with my magazine.
The page is rounded off with the page number, shown as a
large, red number 3. This 3 could be made smaller,
however, I think it seems fine because it is not taking up
too much space or taking attention away from other
images on the page.
