Whilst planning my opening scene, I used Survey Monkey
to get my target audience’s opinion and thoughts on my
ideas. I first asked what age and gender they were to
narrow down my answers to my demographics of my
target audience. I then used these answers from the
correct demographic to make a decision on where I was
going to locate my filming, the music I was going to use
when editing, what films I should use for my inspiration for
shots and narrative, what they expect from the genre and
also the subgenre I was going to use. Using this website, I
found it easier to keep all my answers in one place as well
as it automatically analysing the results.
THE FEEDBACK FROM MY ONLINE SURVEY.
To gather feedback of my opening scene and pitch, I used
social media such as Facebook. I posted my pitch and got
feedback from my target audience on my ideas. I asked for
the things they liked and what they think I could improve on.
This helped me when making final decisions as the target
audience would be watching the film therefore I needed to
take their opinions into consideration. I posted this before
filming as I can make changes to the shots and add new
parts. I also posted my YouTube link to my opening scene. I
asked for their opinions and what they liked and what they
thought I could improve if I was to do it again. This helps me
improve my film to suit the target audience and their needs.
I used social media to directly contact my target audience
as they are a frequent user of these apps.
‘I think that the part where the girl is
being followed by the man in the
park makes it realistic’
‘I like that the stalker texts
the girl from an unknown
number as it makes me
want to know who’s
following her’
‘I think that it is good that
Katie didn’t know that she
had a stalker until the end as
it adds mystery and
suspense’
POSITIVES
‘I want to see more scenes of the
stalker following the girl as it
would emphasis how long he has
followed her’
‘I think the montage should
be faded over some more
shots to show how much he
follows her’
‘I think that Katie should
look out the window and
see a figure in the dark
which makes her panic’
NEGATIVES
THE FEEDBACK FROM THE PITCH BEFORE MY
FILMING.
FEEDBACK AFTER
THE FILMING
Audience Likes- The narrative as they found it interesting and tense. The
character of the stalker following her in realistic places and him being
anonymous. They liked the ending as it was left on a cliff hanger and made
them want to watch the film to see what happens to her. From my survey they
had said that they enjoyed the music used as it made it tense.
Audience Dislikes- They said that there could have been time passing to show
the length of time that she was followed by him. They also said that there should
have a shot with the girl seeing the man which made her panic. The survey
responses had said that I need to improve the lighting and the quality of the
filming.
Links To Audience Research Findings- The target audience of my thriller
contradicts the audience research I did as the audience research said it would
be the male gender whereas my film was focused on the female gender as it
did not contain violence. The superior gender is stereotypically male which
agrees with my audience research as the male character is the villain. My
audience was also in the stereotypical demographics as they were 18-24 years
of age.

  • 9. Audience Likes- The narrative as they found it interesting and tense. The character of the stalker following her in realistic places and him being anonymous. They liked the ending as it was left on a cliff hanger and made them want to watch the film to see what happens to her. From my survey they had said that they enjoyed the music used as it made it tense. Audience Dislikes- They said that there could have been time passing to show the length of time that she was followed by him. They also said that there should have a shot with the girl seeing the man which made her panic. The survey responses had said that I need to improve the lighting and the quality of the filming. Links To Audience Research Findings- The target audience of my thriller contradicts the audience research I did as the audience research said it would be the male gender whereas my film was focused on the female gender as it did not contain violence. The superior gender is stereotypically male which agrees with my audience research as the male character is the villain. My audience was also in the stereotypical demographics as they were 18-24 years of age.
