Human Dive Response; Changes in Heart Rate While Resting...
The Changes of Heart Rate of Students during Human Dive Response when Resting and Submerged
Abstract The dive response is known more popularly as a mammalian dive reflex. It is a survival
mechanism built into mammal s bodies, essentially. Over the years, scientists have been determined to
find what triggers mammals to have a decreased heart rate when submerged under water allowing
them to stay under the water longer when they do not typically live under water. In this experiment,
we tested three different conditions in the dive response to see whether heart rate decreased with each
treatment. To characterize the dive response, we measured subjects heart rates at rest and with their
face submerged under a tub full of room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had the same body posture but the only difference was not actually being submerged. The first
part of this experiment was used as a control for the second and third experiment done. The second
and third experiments had different treatments and were compared to the first experiment. The
purpose of our latter portion of the experiment was to t test the prediction that movement when
submerged and breathing while on land can cause the heart rate to decrease in the dive response.
Material and Methods Each student got a white tub and filled it up with tap water from the sink.
Students were paired with two or three other people and formed their groups. Each group got 1
stopwatch, 1 thermometer, and also learned how to each other s pulse. The temperature of the water
used from the sink were adjusted beforehand to about 23°C; room temperature. Water temperature was
not re adjusted to be hotter or colder. All tests were conducted in the same posture; leaning over the
lab table with elbows resting on the table and the head down. Students worked in groups of three to
four, and each one took turn being the experimental subject, taking the pulse and handling the
stopwatch. To measure the radial pulse manually, the subject s palm was facing upward. The index and
middle fingers were used to locate the pulse between the radial bone, which is on the same side as the
thumb, and with a slight pressure, the pulse could be found.

For example, the forward motion of the tennis forehand shot. ○ 2. The critical instant is the point of
contact (or the release) of the movement. For example, the moment of contact in a tennis serve
between the ball and racquet, the actual release of the shot put or javelin, or the take off in long jump.
This is the point that determines the effectiveness of the skill. Successful execution requires the athlete
to apply the correct amount of force, in the correct direction and with precision timing. It is often
difficult for the coach to observe and assess the movement within this phase, as the movement takes
place very quickly. Ask: ● What is an example of the critical instant in another sport? Why is that?
Say: ● THE FOLLOW THROUGH PHASE ● The follow through refers to the body movements
occurring after the execution phase. This phase is where the movement slows down after impact and
the athlete prepares for the next action. For example, the high leg lift after kicking a goal in rugby, the
path of the golf club after the ball is struck, or landing in gymnastic. The follow through is important
in slowing the body parts down over a longer period of time, absorbing the forces produced and
helping to prevent injuries. Ask: ● What other skills have follow through importance?

Cell Phone Comparisons
No matter what the intended purpose, there s no doubt that getting an affordable and reliable wireless
plan is very important. MyRatePlan can help anyone find great wireless coverage at great prices with
only a few pieces of simple information such as zip code, the desired type of customized plan and how
much the shopper is currently paying for wireless phone service. What Type of Wireless Plan is
Preferred? There are three basic types of wireless cell phone plans available by nearly every wireless
phone company. These plans are single line plans, family plans and no contract plans. Each has their
own advantages and disadvantages in various scenarios, but it s important for every shopper to
solidify which plan would be most preferred to them. Single line plans are meant purely for use in one
phone only. This is the best route for people who don t have spouses or children who may want their
phones on the plan as well. Single line plans are much cheaper than family plans since they only cover
one device. Family plans are designed to cover various devices, and they add a lot of elbow room for
additional devices to be added in the future. Family plans are more expensive than single line plans,
but it s a much better option for people who want to add numerous devices such as ones belonging to
spouses and children to their plan. The reason for this is because family plans allow each user to share
the minutes, text messages and data, which makes the combined bill less than

The Modeling Technique That You Were Assigned For Your Own...
Final Exam
1. Describe the modeling technique that you were assigned in your own words.
The modeling technique that I was assigned Extended Backus Naur Form (EBNF). In software
engineering, expanded Backus Naur frame (EBNF) is a group of metasyntax documentations, any of
which can be utilized to express a setting free sentence structure. EBNF is utilized to make a formal
depiction of a formal language which can be a PC programming language. They are augmentations of
the fundamental Backus Naur frame (BNF) metasyntax documentation. EBNF is a code that
communicates the sentence structure of a formal language. An EBNF comprises of terminal images
and non terminal creation rules which are the limitations administering how terminal images can be
joined into a legitimate arrangement. Cases of terminal images incorporate alphanumeric characters,
accentuation marks, and whitespace characters. BNF is the first, most straightforward, for the most
part utilized as a part of scholarly papers of hypothetical setting, for conveying to people, instead of
being utilized as a part of compiler or parser. EBNF implies Extended BNF. There s not one single
EBNF, but rather numerous.
Reusing existing syntax learning dwelling in gauges, specifications and manuals for programming
dialects, confronts a few difficulties. A standout amongst the most significant of them is the differing
qualities of syntactic documentations: without loss of all inclusive statement, we can express that each

Persuasive Speech On Yoga
The winter has ended and it may be the time to get rid of our winter bodies. Admit it, girl, we all

It s okay if you don t like going to the gym because, luckily, there re less intense ways of kicking in

I m sure you ve heard of yoga, maybe you even know someone who goes to yoga classes every week.
Nonetheless, yoga is the type of workout everyone should try at least once. It s good for both your

Diversity and the American National Identity Essays
Diversity and the American National Identity
Greed is good, get get get, I want what you have, don t touch mine. This is what a friend of mine said
when I asked for his conception of the American national identity is.1 Although this statement seems
informal and absurd, it accurately reflects the dog eat dog world many people believe to be the
American capitalist culture.2 Whether my friend said this with the intent of comic relief is
inconsequential. Whether he knew it, the informant reflects his cultural identity.
Many ambiguities surround the establishment, formation, and retention of a national identity. To what
extent can a national identity be individualized? Does every individual, regardless of origin, possess

Hernando defines the national identity as the coming together as one people from a mixture of races,
and basically cultures, including socio economic borders and such. He proceeds to explain that
because America is a melting pot full of diversities in cultures, ideas, and lineages, retaining a
universal national identity is not possible. Hernando justifies this statement by offering an example of
a country where he believes a national identity has been established. He says, The Germans have
created a national identity; what do you have there? Germans, people of German descent.
Iago, a nineteen year old Puerto Rican male claims, Socially and economically, I have an American
identity. Ethnically, no, I do not have an American identity. A firm believer in humanism and
individualism, he considers the concept of a national identity in any context to be irrational. He
continues, A national identity represses the evolution of social and economic diversification. Iago
claims that he is altogether devoid of a national identity. Is this possible? Can a person willingly select
which aspects of a national identity to apply to his or her personal culture?
Maya, an eighteen year old native of India, insists that the national identity is a lot of different people
living together and being able to live together. Instead of classifying the nation as a unified whole, like
Hernando has, she concentrates on the ability and necessity of co habitation in

Spirited Away Reflection
Hayao Miyazaki s oscar award winning Spirited Away was the first Japanese anime film to win an
Oscar. To see how this animated feature film won this grand award, this paper will talk about the
writing, music, and sound design of this film.
Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in a town called Akebono cho in Bunkyō, Tokyo. His
father ran a business that manufactured plane rudders during World War II. At the age of 3, Miyazaki s
family had to evacuate numerous times to escape bombings in their area. Miyazaki aspired to become
a manga artist when he was in junior high, but he was not good at drawing people, so instead he drew
planes, tanks, and ships. He then got inspired by a movie called Panda and the Magic Serpent (1958)
and began to draw more people.
Miyazaki s writing tends to be more on the fantasy side. One theme that can be seen throughout his
films is the joy and wonder of flying, as Miyazaki himself loves the idea of flying. In most of his more
famous films, things start out in a normal and real world setting, and then get whisked away into a
new and strange world filled with mystery and wonder.
The story of Spirited Away follows a ten year old girl named Chihiro, who is currently moving into a
new home in a new town in Japan. On their way to the new house, Chihiro s parents find an
abandoned temple like structure. The family decides to venture in and investigate the area. Chihiro is
cautious and doesn t want to go any further, but the fear of being left alone

Space Race Evolution
Even though the Earth has been around for a few billion years, it has been only 200,000 years when
the first homo sapiens, modern human species, came to existence. To put it into perspective, if the arm
length represents the timeline, the shoulder is the Big Bang, the beginning of the finger nail is when
the dinosaurs existed, and the human start to become a possibility right around the tip of the finger.
Even more astounding, industrialization started only in the 1800s, which estimated 200 years to
develop to the current society. The remarkable number is evidence to human extraordinary intelligence
and limitless capabilities to transform ambition into reality; however, any development will reach to a
point where the growth is less significant than it is used to be. This is referred as the law of
diminishing return. Therefore, the research for a more advanced technology, Artificial Intelligence, or
AI, has become the new Space Race of the 21st century. Many ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Jay Gatsby s The Great Gatsby
Money Money Money

AP English Hagar
3/28/15
Jay Gatsby, an exotic millionaire philanthropist, has everything and anything a man could ever need.
He lives a life most could only dream of. A life full of massive parties, sports cars, mansions, and
booze. Yet he is missing something, he is missing the only thing that could make him truly happy, to
live a life with Daisy Buchanan. He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his
unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God.
(pg 119). He was in love with Daisy, and he opened up to her, only to lose her to Tom who had the
money to support her. Money could not buy Gatsby happiness and finally ends up destroying him.
Wealth has both benefits and dangers. Extreme wealth has the power to allow someone almost
unlimited potential, however wealth can easily corrupt and change a person for the worse. Once
someone has a taste of wealth they always want more. A prime example of this is the Wilsons, Myrtle
and George. They both die because they truly believed money could buy them happiness. [Tom] What
do you want money for, all of a sudden? [George] I ve been here too long. I want to get away. My wife
and I want to go west. Your wife does! exclaimed Tom, startled. [George]She s been talking about it
for ten years. He rested for a moment against the pump, shading his eyes. And now she s going
whether she wants to or not. I m going to get her away (pg 131).

The Culture Of Asian American And Being Labeled As An Ethnic
Preface
In this essay, I attempted to lay bare the issues of being an Asian American and being labeled as an
ethnic other in modern America. This label of other causes them to become marginalized and lose
their sense of identity, belonging neither to Western culture nor Eastern culture. In order help stop this
loss of identity in Asian Americans, we must tear down the social construct of the other and integrate
the different cultures into the melting pot of popular culture. Once we have stopped alienating
different cultures, we can then have a moral society that upholds diversity and identity.
The Struggles of the Other
The apparent dominance of White Europeans in America results in a common set of values, beliefs,
and norms that are endorsed by Whites, leading to an America whose vision is filtered through the
lens of the White European perspective. This established vision and power creates the social construct
of the ethnic other. As an ethnic other in America, my analysis incorporates my personal experiences
and the experiences of those around me. In a nation that has a population so diverse in personal and
collective identities, problems regarding morality and culture can arise. In the America of the past and
present, the norm by which all are measured against is that of a heterosexual White European. This
norm creates a conflict with the marginalized groups who wish to gain acceptance by and into the
dominant culture, but are not allowed to do so due to their

Essay about The Renaissance as a Distinct Period of Time
The Middle Ages was a time in history where everyone was faithful to religion as well as others. Also,
in the Middle Ages, people were encouraged to always try their best; they were encouraged to strive
for the highest achievement possible and to never give up. The Renaissance, however, was more
focused on becoming matured and finding a way to be successful at everything one does. During this
era, people strived to become all sided men, also known as; renaissance men. This means they are not
only successful in one type of art but in all types of art, as well as math, science, and literature. The
Renaissance was a distinct period in time that was separated from the Middle Ages and began a new
era.

They believed that the people of the Middle Ages used religion as an excuse to drink and gain money
and power (Document 5). The Middle Ages was a time where people were more conserved with
education and did not have the curiosities that fell upon those in the Renaissance.
Curiosity of the human body and deeper knowledge about art and literature became two popular areas
throughout the Renaissance. Leonardo daVinci drew beautiful pieces of art that depicted the natural
and realistic human body and it s internal muscle and bone structures. The drawings of the human
body by daVinci, show that he was not afraid to go the distance and have no limits as to how far he
will push himself to understand the human body (Document 6). Leonardo was a true Renaissance
man. In addition, another evidential person who leads a reader towards making the inference that the
Renaissance is a separate era from the Middle Ages, is Johannes Kepler. Johannes Kepler was an
astronomer from Germany that made an observation about people in the Middle Ages that tend to
follow and agree with everything the priests say. Johannes said that with the distinct knowledge of the
Renaissance, people now had their own education and had the power to question what others said or
thought (Document 7).
Education was always existent through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. However, the education
during the Renaissance was extremely different and more widely spread than the education that was

The astonishing work of fiction, Sweat , by Zora Neale Hurston, captures the ultimate importance of
people receiving what they truly deserve. The storyline of Hurston s Sweat encompasses karma as the
theme in numerous, yet diverse ways. Hurston uses the snake to bring about karma in Sweat . She
depicts the negative connections to snakes such as fear, evil, immorality, night and slyness. While also
linking the snake to positive symbols, such as rejuvenation and independence. This theme only

Theme Of Death In Anna Karenina
Leo Tolstoy presents two extremely different deaths in Anna Karenina: one of a sickly brother losing
his battle with illness, and one of a woman brimming with intricate complexities committing suicide
because she does not feel like she has a purpose in her life. As Fyodor Dostoevsky asserts in his work
evaluating the novel, In Anna Karenina is expressed a view of human guilt and criminality. People are
portrayed in abnormal circumstances... caught in a whirl of deceit, people commit crime and fatally
perish (Dostoevsky). Dostoevsky speaks to Tolstoy s ability to observe life and to portray that life to
his audience, Tolstoy is able to put his characters in such vividly abnormal circumstances, that he is
able to stir feelings of human guilt in the reader. While both deaths in the text vary extremely in terms
of their contexts, Tolstoy juxtaposes the two deaths to comment on the natural humanity of death, to
determine what it is about death that unites humanity and characterizes the human experience.
Dostoevsky says that, based on Tolstoy s writing, It is clear and intelligible... that the human soul will
remain identical (Dostoevsky). He is able to use Anna Karenina to show the identicality found in each
human soul. In this time in Russia, Tolstoy shows that this commonality is found in a return to religion
and it regret. Yet, he is able to more broadly assert, that in the final moments of someone s life on
Earth, that person searches for whatever peace they may find,

The Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory Essay
MGMT 3720
Nada Chaoui
Assignment # 2
This case is about Paul Reed, a vice president and supervisor at Magic Eye, who is trying to
understand the reason his programmers in his firm, are not reaching their potential. For that matter,
Paul sought Muriel Tremblay, who is responsible for the personal to discover the issue. Muriel then
interviewed an employee named Jeannie Savaria who has worked for the company for over a year and
discovered that there had been some lack of motivation from Paul. According to Robbins, S. P. Judge,
(184). Motivation is the process that accounts for an individual s intensity, direction, and persistence
of effort towards attaining a goal. In this paper, I will use the Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory to
explain Jeannine Savaria s motivation and what can her supervisor do to improve her motivation.
Savaria s motivation can be supported through the Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory. This theory
links the performance of an individual effort to his motivation with the purpose of increasing
satisfaction and minimizing dissatisfaction. According to Vroom, the performance of an employee is
based on individual factors; personality, skills, knowledge, experience and abilities. The Vroom theory
accounts to three variables; Expectancy, Instrumentality, and Valance.
Expectancy perceives effort that leads to performance. It acquires self efficacy, goal difficulty and
perceived control. Jeannine is aware of her exceptional technical abilities of

The People Stay Abusive Relationships
Many people stay in abusive relationships for many reasons, Such as: Conflicting Emotions, Pressure,
Distrust of Adults or Authority, reliance on the abusive partner, Love, Hope, Guilt, Dependence, Fear,
Survival, Loyalty, Family Pressure, Children, Religious Beliefs, Learned helplessness, etc. A woman
in her late twenties found someone who could have been the love of her life. He accepted her and
treated her 2 sons like his own. He was everything she wanted but after a year or two his behavior
changed. He became irritable, angry, and always getting caught lying. Then the abuse started, he
would verbally abused her, belittling her, sexually assaulting her, abusing her children. When she got
pregnant with his child it got worse. He had threw her down the stairs, dragged her by the hair, beat
her and her children and made her feel like it was her fault. He later got her hooked on drugs, and
when she thought about leaving he would threaten her and say that he would call child services and
she would lose her children. Then he sent her to prison by getting her drunk and encouraging her to do
drugs. He made her believe that he loved her and wanted to be with her, the endless apologies. When
she got out after 8 months he wouldn t let her leave the house. Then one night he came home drunk,
he sexually assaulted her and now her children being 18, 16 and 8, knowing the scams he has pulled,
they stopped him and calling the police. He got arrested and now doesn t live at her house. They

Militancy in Yemen
The militant groups related to al Qaeda have gained considerable strength in the southern region of
Yemen. These militant groups are reported to be stronger than the country s military, and this can be
seen from the level of the expansion made by the militancy. During his regime, Ali Abdullah Saleh
described Yemen as an island in a sea of al Qaeda (Raghavan). In late February of 2012, a regime
change happened in Yemen as Saleh stepped down from the presidency, and Hadi was elected the new
president in a one candidate election. In the midst of the Arab Spring movement to the transfer of
power from Saleh to Hadi and the present situations in Yemen, the Islamist militant groups have
garnered greater control over some of the state s southern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this has been handed down by the last president of Yemen, Saleh. There is some parallelism that
exists between the rise of economic problems and the rise of support for militant groups in several
Muslim nations. This is because non affordability, starvation, and preoccupation about the future, may
lead some to join or support the cause of the militant groups. Since there are a lot of institutional
weaknesses in Yemen, its people can be swayed towards the opinions of these so called Sharia
following groups. For example, aside from the Abyan province, the al Qaeda militant groups expanded
to the neighboring province of Shabwa. Over there, the militant groups, i.e. Ansar al Sharia, have
succeeded in implementing stricter codes of Islamic law (Raghavan). Their expansion and success in
implementing Sharia shows that they must have established institutions that enforce the Sharia. This is
possible in a state as weak as Yemen, because its state controlled institutions lack effectiveness and
efficiency due to the corruption of the government under Saleh. The militant groups discovered their
opportunistic moment to spread during the Arab Spring movement to the political transition in Yemen.
The protests and international support against Saleh s corrupt and ineffective regime resulted in his
deposition. Despite being granted immunity, tensions between the loyals of Saleh, the

Marketing and Mouse Trap
Company Case. Trap Ease America: The big cheese mousetraps
1) Martha and the Trap Ease America investors believe they face a once in a lifetime opportunity.
What information do they need to evaluate this opportunity? How do you think the group would write
its mission statement? How would you write it?
By saying they face a once in a lifetime opportunity I assume that they are talking about the potential
for profit and growth. However, from this case it doesn t seem that Martha, the president of Trap Ease
had done enough research into her market to realistically assess whether the demand for her product
would be there. First she would need to decide what customers want and need. Do they want or need

Could it position the product in other ways?
It seems that the Trap Ease mouse trap has positioned itself in the market as being a very innovative
and well engineered product. It has done this by winning awards from trade shows and magazines. If it
is better able to connect these features of the mouse traps with the needs and wants of their target
consumers then they should be able to generate a larger demand. They could also try to change it s
position a little bit.
Trap Ease could also position the product as causing less waist because it is re useable or they could
lower it s cost and make it more affordable. By making it the most affordable, innovative mouse trap
on the market they could probably gain some more demand. Another way in which they could position
their product would be by having an incredibly good customer service team that could deliver services
to their customers that were having problems using the product. By having a good customer service
team they could build better relationships with their customers and increase their customer equity
4.Describe the current marketing mix for Trap Ease. Do you see any problems with this mix?
The marketing mix of a company consists of the four P s: Product, Price, Place and Promotion.
Currently Trap Ease only has one product, their mouse trap. They probably could create a couple
different versions of their mouse trap in order to offer more variety. The higher price of their mouse

Mothers And Daughters Have Those Typical Mother Daughter...
Most mothers and daughters have those typical mother daughter talks. You can compare them to a rite
of passage that continues for a period of time. The goal is to gain a closer bond between the two
females. Every once in a while, a mother will sit down with her daughter and they will talk about
anything. The topics can range from boys to advice or just describing your day. A mother isn t
supposed to be your best friend, that s not her role. She is a confidant or a great listener who
unconditionally loves you. My mother possesses those qualities; they just aren t usually put to use.
Each time we have our mother daughter talks they tend to be at the weirdest times: while driving me
to dance practice, while doing my hair, when I m trying to go to bed, etc. There is nothing wrong with
that. I know my mom is really busy. Between finishing work projects at home, cooking dinner and
raising five kids (I m including my father and our two dogs), this woman doesn t get a moment to
herself. So, our mother daughter talks turn out to be unconventional, at least compared to television
examples and what my friends talk about. I don t mind though. Our uniqueness makes our talks much
more memorable.
For example, our unforgettable first mother daughter talk. It was a late Tuesday night in September.
My six year old brother was already asleep, my dad was downstairs watching TV, and my mother was
doing my hair for my 7th grade picture day. As per usual, we waited until the night before

The Liberal And Realist Interpretations Of The Period...
Esau Quiroz
Essay #1 When one begins to examine the period of 1815 until 1914 one will find that there are
various interpretations of what transpired during this period. The two interpretations that will be
examined in this analysis are the liberal and realist s interpretations of this period. The Liberal
interpretation refers to this period as Pax Britannica. Liberals see this period as a time of peace and a
time in which Britain became the first liberal hegemonic power. The relist interpretation seeks to
demonstrate how this period was not entirely peaceful and demonstrate why they do not believe
Britain can be referred to as a hegemonic power. This analysis will seek to demonstrate three separate
notion the first being the similarities between Britain in the period between 1815 1914 and the modern
day US dominated international system. The second notion will be to demonstrate how the liberal
interpretation of this period is the most accurate, and to also demonstrate how the United States is the
modern day hegemon. The third notion will be to demonstrate that a hegemonic power does not need
to be the largest militarily.
Before one may enter an analysis of the liberal and realist interpretations of the periods between 1815
and 1914 one must define what a hegemon is. Hegemony is when the predominance of one nation
state over others is present. (FLS 8) In the eyes of liberals hegemonic powers are public goods as long
as the hegemonic nation state is a liberal

What goods and services does a government want to provide? To what extent does it believe in
subsidizing firms? What are its priorities in terms of business support? Political decisions can impact
on many vital areas for business such as the education of the workforce, the health of the nation and
the quality of the infrastructure of the economy such as the road and rail system. * Economic Factors
These include interest rates, taxation changes, economic growth, inflation and exchange rates. As it
can be seen throughout the Foundations of Economics book economic change can have a major
impact on a firm s behavior. For examples, * higher interest rates may deter investment because it
costs more to borrow * a strong currency may make exporting more difficult because it may raise the
price in terms of foreign currency * inflation may provoke higher wage demands from employees and
raise cost * national income growth may boost demand for a firm s products
* Social Factors
Changes in social trends can impact on the demand for a firm s products and the availability and
willingness of individuals to work. In the UK, for example, the population has been ageing. This has
increased the costs for firms who are committed to pension payments for their employees because
their staff is living longer.
It also means some firms such as Asda have started to recruit older employees to tap into this growing
labor pool. The

some problems on your own while I walk around and help those of you who are having issues. If you

participant in his session and shows what happens when you help a student. What happens with the
session attendees is what happens in most classrooms. It started out with a small amount of talking,
and then the noise level grew and grew. He doesn t address how to handle the talking yet, but

Analysis Of My Papa s Waltz
Due to Theodore Roethke s use of imagery, syntax, and diction, My Papa s Waltz continues to spur
passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike. Roethke uses these elements
to allow the reader to recognize that he is reminiscing the intricate relationship he and his father
shared. Although it is not essential, one could put the historical context into consideration. Evidently,
there will always be individuals that see only abuse or a fond memory; however, we will never clearly
know what his intention was in regards to the purpose of the poem. As a result, one must come to a
realization based on the author s use of diction, syntax, and imagery throughout the poem broken

Typically, when people see signs of abuse, they reach conclusions; especially, because the word
romped has a sexual connotation. To clarify, when the ...hung on like death: is mentioned, an image of
forceful physical contact comes to most readers minds. When slid from the kitchen shelf is mentioned
people immediately assume that he beat his son until the pans slid off the shelf. As for the positive, it
can be assumed that there was simply a father playing roughly with his son. Roethke mentions, My
mother s countenance/ could not unfrown itself. Could it be that his mother was upset that the father
played extremely rough that the pans slid or that she could not do anything about the fact that her son
was getting abused. Was there a possibility that she was getting abused too? The reader now begins to
ponder whether it is a fond memory, abuse, or both are present. Furthermore, the analysis of the third
stanza, relates to the fond memory. Roethke descriptively mentions, The hand that held my wrist/Was
battered on one knuckle; The battered knuckle can be a sign of the father s manual labor; on the
contrary, it can be the beating of his child leaving his hand injured. Even though, these two points can
be argued thoroughly, the following line, At every step you missed/My right ear scraped a buckle.
supports the idea that the child could have been playing

I Am A Retired Army Veteran Essay
As I drove down 41st St. N in downtown Birmingham, I looked to the right side of the road and saw
many people just standing or kids running around outside in front of building that looked like
apartments. I thought to myself why are they all outside? And what is this place? I researched the
demographics and the building complexes in that area and found that these were public housing. As I
continued my research and what life was like there in those houses I decided that I would get some
actual answers. I parked on the street and approached in a respectable manner an older man named
Jimmy and asked him what it was like living in public housing. He answered I am a retired army
veteran and before going into combat I married my high school sweet heart, but we didn t have
enough money to buy a home so she lived with her parents until I came back and could start a family.
When I came back the economy was not doing very good so we didn t have enough money to buy a
real house and decide we would need to move into public housing. It was all we could afford and it
was a roof over our heads. This was surprising because I had no idea how many people actually lived
in public housing. Public housing isn t as great as many may think it is, there is homelessness, non
educated children, and it is an unhealthy living environment. According to the U.S. Department of

The Age Of Reason Thomas Paine Summary
Throughout The Age of Reason, Thomas Paine gives several examples for why he is opposed to
Christianity. Before I began reading this essay, I was absolutely positive that I was going to disagree
with every point that Paine had to make and every opinion that he expressed. It did not take long for
me to realize that I had made the wrong assumption. There was more than one occasion while reading
The Age of Reason that I discovered I actually agreed with Paine s opinion/belief. This encouraged me
to read The Age of Reason once again, but this time with an open mind. I decided that I would also
take notes on the similarities and differences between Paine s worldview and mine. I came across my
first disagreeance with Paine a few sentences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The morality that he preached and practiced was of the most benevolent kind. . . (Timmerman and
Hettinga). I was very surprised that Paine had written these words. I was let down again when I read
that Paine did not believe in the way that Jesus was placed into Mary s womb by God or how he
resurrected three days after his death and then ascended into heaven. Paine s reason for not believing
these facts about Jesus is simply because evidence never was given. Paine relays the message to me
that he will not believe anything unless there is evidence to support the fact or opinion. Paine relies on
evidence. This is one of the many ways that Paine s worldview is different from mine. I rely on faith. I
have faith that Jesus was placed into Mary s womb by God and that He rose from the grave three days
after his death. The next time I find myself agreeing with what Paine believes is when he states,
Human language is local and changeable, and is therefore incapable of being used as means of
unchangeable and universal information (Timmerman and Hettinga 100). I agree that the human
language is not solid and that it cannot be trusted; however, I once again find something wrong with
Paine s worldview. Paine did not believe that Jesus had any kind of supernatural abilities. He believed
that Jesus was just like any other human being. He therefore comes to the conclusion that Jesus

After the IGRA was passed the Pequots pursued a Malaysian rubber company of Genting International

University of Phoenix
Professional Values and Ethics
What is the difference between values and ethics? Values are rules by which people make decisions
about what is right versus wrong; good versus bad and what one should or should not do. The
definition of values according to Dictionary.com is the ideals, customs, institutions, etc., of a society
toward which the people of the group have an affective regard. These values may be positive, as

In today s society so many cases of people who have chosen to ignore ethics and values in the pursuit
of success or financial gain only end in their demise. A closer examination of professional values and
ethics in America certainly reveal that companies or organizations that adhere to a well defined set of
professional values and ethics will stand the test of time. Many of America s oldest and financially
sound companies are strong today because they followed a well defined code of business values and
ethics. Ford Motor Company is one example, Henry Ford believed so strongly in his company s code
of ethics that he doubled the pay of employs who complied with his code of conduct, which was based
upon his personal religious beliefs regular church attendance, no alcohol, no late hours, and no
frivolous spending. J.C. Penney is another company that is a prime example of a successful company
that was built on professional values and ethics. Penney took a stand against the unfair business
practices of his time; he developed a code of ethics which is considered one of the first general codes
for ethics in business. His business partners were required to pledge honesty, integrity, and moral
leadership; they were required to follow a code of ethics which can arguably be attributed to the

Exploration of a Brave New Individual
Envision a world without despair, and everything is designed a specific way. Total freedom and
perfection. Utopia is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. Values are the
determining factor to what inhabits a perfect society. Does this pertain to individual freedom, or is
freedom living by societal norms? Aldous Huxley exposes these factors through his futuristic literary
masterpiece Brave New World. Society is controlled by caste systems, open relationships, and the use
of drugs to stay there absolute selves. It is questioned if the citizens of a Brave New World are truly
themselves. COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY, (Page 1) is the moto of the World s state. Five
manufactured social castes infuse the communities, conformity is prevented for one s identity, and a
life on drugs and open sexual relationships create stability. John, reportedly nicknamed John the
Savage for being an outsider of societal norms, attempts to revolutionize himself and the perfect world
he lives in because the world he perceives is causing destruction.
In to the future, there are no families, no mothers, and no reproduction. The government produces
masses of people in single test tubes, and conditions them to conform to an assigned caste. Alphas are
the highest social class, while Deltas are the scum of all classes. The system of rearing a society of
clones,

I M Black and I M Proud
Black History speech: I m Black and I m Proud
As we come to the close of another black History Month, we have been reflecting upon our heritage.
Upon such people as Chrispus Atticks, Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglas, George Washington Culver,
Dr. Charles Drew, Thurgood Marshal, Malcolm X, and of course Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and
many, many more. And as we remember and review these names we realize that in any other society
this would be a great list of historical figures. But being in the society that we are in, our contributions
have been, to say the least, SUPPRESSED.
So therefore we have to acknowledge our own, since history will not acknowledge us we choose to
acknowledge ourselves. And so this month of celebration and ... Show more content on

So beloved I salute you today and if you will allow me to paraphrase of one of our American slogans,
YOU VE COME ALONG WAY BABY .
And I want to tell you that we have indeed have come along way, but that s not to say that there isn t
still a ways to go; because it seems like we have been carrying our cross from the beginning of time,
you remember that it was a black man named Simon the Cyrenian, who carried the cross for Christ.
And then we as a people, were brought to America and we carried the cross of slavery, and then after
slavery was abolished, we carried the cross of prejudice and segregation, and believe it or not, we are
still carrying that cross today. However all is not gloom and doom, all is not lost, because you see my
brothers and sisters, we are one of the few people who realize that GREATER IS HE, THAT IS IN US,
THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD.
So yes I m proud to be an African American because one day a black woman riding a bus was tired
and decided that she wanted to sit down.
I m proud to be an African American because a man named Dr. Charles Drew developed the technique
for blood transfusions, and even though he himself died because after being in an automobile accident
and the hospital refused to give him a blood

  • 2. Human Dive Response; Changes in Heart Rate While Resting... The Changes of Heart Rate of Students during Human Dive Response when Resting and Submerged Abstract The dive response is known more popularly as a mammalian dive reflex. It is a survival mechanism built into mammal s bodies, essentially. Over the years, scientists have been determined to find what triggers mammals to have a decreased heart rate when submerged under water allowing them to stay under the water longer when they do not typically live under water. In this experiment, we tested three different conditions in the dive response to see whether heart rate decreased with each treatment. To characterize the dive response, we measured subjects heart rates at rest and with their face submerged under a tub full of room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had the same body posture but the only difference was not actually being submerged. The first part of this experiment was used as a control for the second and third experiment done. The second and third experiments had different treatments and were compared to the first experiment. The purpose of our latter portion of the experiment was to t test the prediction that movement when submerged and breathing while on land can cause the heart rate to decrease in the dive response. Material and Methods Each student got a white tub and filled it up with tap water from the sink. Students were paired with two or three other people and formed their groups. This is the point that determines the effectiveness of the skill. Successful execution requires the athlete to apply the correct amount of force, in the correct direction and with precision timing. To see how this animated feature film won this grand award, this paper will talk about the writing, music, and sound design of this film. Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in a town called Akebono cho in Bunkyō, Tokyo. His father ran a business that manufactured plane rudders during World War II. At the age of 3, Miyazaki s family had to evacuate numerous times to escape bombings in their area. Miyazaki aspired to become a manga artist when he was in junior high, but he was not good at drawing people, so instead he drew planes, tanks, and ships. He then got inspired by a movie called Panda and the Magic Serpent (1958) and began to draw more people. Miyazaki s writing tends to be more on the fantasy side. One theme that can be seen throughout his films is the joy and wonder of flying, as Miyazaki himself loves the idea of flying. In most of his more famous films, things start out in a normal and real world setting, and then get whisked away into a new and strange world filled with mystery and wonder. The story of Spirited Away follows a ten year old girl named Chihiro, who is currently moving into a new home in a new town in Japan. On their way to the new house, Chihiro s parents find an abandoned temple like structure. The family decides to venture in and investigate the area. • 19. The Culture Of Asian American And Being Labeled As An Ethnic Preface In this essay, I attempted to lay bare the issues of being an Asian American and being labeled as an ethnic other in modern America. This label of other causes them to become marginalized and lose their sense of identity, belonging neither to Western culture nor Eastern culture. In order help stop this loss of identity in Asian Americans, we must tear down the social construct of the other and integrate the different cultures into the melting pot of popular culture. Once we have stopped alienating different cultures, we can then have a moral society that upholds diversity and identity. The Struggles of the Other The apparent dominance of White Europeans in America results in a common set of values, beliefs, and norms that are endorsed by Whites, leading to an America whose vision is filtered through the lens of the White European perspective. This established vision and power creates the social construct of the ethnic other. As an ethnic other in America, my analysis incorporates my personal experiences and the experiences of those around me. In a nation that has a population so diverse in personal and collective identities, problems regarding morality and culture can arise. Theme Of Death In Anna Karenina Leo Tolstoy presents two extremely different deaths in Anna Karenina: one of a sickly brother losing his battle with illness, and one of a woman brimming with intricate complexities committing suicide because she does not feel like she has a purpose in her life. As Fyodor Dostoevsky asserts in his work evaluating the novel, In Anna Karenina is expressed a view of human guilt and criminality. People are portrayed in abnormal circumstances... caught in a whirl of deceit, people commit crime and fatally perish (Dostoevsky). Dostoevsky speaks to Tolstoy s ability to observe life and to portray that life to his audience, Tolstoy is able to put his characters in such vividly abnormal circumstances, that he is able to stir feelings of human guilt in the reader. While both deaths in the text vary extremely in terms of their contexts, Tolstoy juxtaposes the two deaths to comment on the natural humanity of death, to determine what it is about death that unites humanity and characterizes the human experience. Dostoevsky says that, based on Tolstoy s writing, It is clear and intelligible... that the human soul will remain identical (Dostoevsky). He is able to use Anna Karenina to show the identicality found in each human soul. In this time in Russia, Tolstoy shows that this commonality is found in a return to religion and it regret. For that matter, Paul sought Muriel Tremblay, who is responsible for the personal to discover the issue. Muriel then interviewed an employee named Jeannie Savaria who has worked for the company for over a year and discovered that there had been some lack of motivation from Paul. According to Robbins, S. P. Judge, (184). Motivation is the process that accounts for an individual s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort towards attaining a goal. In this paper, I will use the Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory to explain Jeannine Savaria s motivation and what can her supervisor do to improve her motivation. Savaria s motivation can be supported through the Vroom Expectancy Motivation Theory. This theory links the performance of an individual effort to his motivation with the purpose of increasing satisfaction and minimizing dissatisfaction. According to Vroom, the performance of an employee is based on individual factors; personality, skills, knowledge, experience and abilities. The Vroom theory accounts to three variables; Expectancy, Instrumentality, and Valance. Expectancy perceives effort that leads to performance. • 26. Militancy in Yemen The militant groups related to al Qaeda have gained considerable strength in the southern region of Yemen. These militant groups are reported to be stronger than the country s military, and this can be seen from the level of the expansion made by the militancy. During his regime, Ali Abdullah Saleh described Yemen as an island in a sea of al Qaeda (Raghavan). In late February of 2012, a regime change happened in Yemen as Saleh stepped down from the presidency, and Hadi was elected the new president in a one candidate election. In the midst of the Arab Spring movement to the transfer of power from Saleh to Hadi and the present situations in Yemen, the Islamist militant groups have garnered greater control over some of the state s southern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All this has been handed down by the last president of Yemen, Saleh. There is some parallelism that exists between the rise of economic problems and the rise of support for militant groups in several Muslim nations. This is because non affordability, starvation, and preoccupation about the future, may lead some to join or support the cause of the militant groups. Since there are a lot of institutional weaknesses in Yemen, its people can be swayed towards the opinions of these so called Sharia following groups. For example, aside from the Abyan province, the al Qaeda militant groups expanded to the neighboring province of Shabwa. Over there, the militant groups, i.e. Ansar al Sharia, have succeeded in implementing stricter codes of Islamic law (Raghavan). Their expansion and success in implementing Sharia shows that they must have established institutions that enforce the Sharia. This is possible in a state as weak as Yemen, because its state controlled institutions lack effectiveness and efficiency due to the corruption of the government under Saleh. The militant groups discovered their opportunistic moment to spread during the Arab Spring movement to the political transition in Yemen. The protests and international support against Saleh s corrupt and ineffective regime resulted in his deposition. Despite being granted immunity, tensions between the loyals of Saleh, the ... • 28. Mothers And Daughters Have Those Typical Mother Daughter... Most mothers and daughters have those typical mother daughter talks. You can compare them to a rite of passage that continues for a period of time. The goal is to gain a closer bond between the two females. Every once in a while, a mother will sit down with her daughter and they will talk about anything. The topics can range from boys to advice or just describing your day. A mother isn t supposed to be your best friend, that s not her role. She is a confidant or a great listener who unconditionally loves you. My mother possesses those qualities; they just aren t usually put to use. Each time we have our mother daughter talks they tend to be at the weirdest times: while driving me to dance practice, while doing my hair, when I m trying to go to bed, etc. There is nothing wrong with that. I know my mom is really busy. Between finishing work projects at home, cooking dinner and raising five kids (I m including my father and our two dogs), this woman doesn t get a moment to herself. So, our mother daughter talks turn out to be unconventional, at least compared to television examples and what my friends talk about. I don t mind though. Our uniqueness makes our talks much more memorable. For example, our unforgettable first mother daughter talk. It was a late Tuesday night in September. My six year old brother was already asleep, my dad was downstairs watching TV, and my mother was doing my hair for my 7th grade picture day. As per usual, we waited until the night before ... • 29. The Liberal And Realist Interpretations Of The Period... Esau Quiroz Essay #1 When one begins to examine the period of 1815 until 1914 one will find that there are various interpretations of what transpired during this period. The two interpretations that will be examined in this analysis are the liberal and realist s interpretations of this period. The Liberal interpretation refers to this period as Pax Britannica. Liberals see this period as a time of peace and a time in which Britain became the first liberal hegemonic power. The relist interpretation seeks to demonstrate how this period was not entirely peaceful and demonstrate why they do not believe Britain can be referred to as a hegemonic power. This analysis will seek to demonstrate three separate notion the first being the similarities between Britain in the period between 1815 1914 and the modern day US dominated international system. The second notion will be to demonstrate how the liberal interpretation of this period is the most accurate, and to also demonstrate how the United States is the modern day hegemon. The third notion will be to demonstrate that a hegemonic power does not need to be the largest militarily. Before one may enter an analysis of the liberal and realist interpretations of the periods between 1815 and 1914 one must define what a hegemon is. Hegemony is when the predominance of one nation state over others is present. (FLS 8) In the eyes of liberals hegemonic powers are public goods as long as the hegemonic nation state is a liberal ... As I continued my research and what life was like there in those houses I decided that I would get some actual answers. I parked on the street and approached in a respectable manner an older man named Jimmy and asked him what it was like living in public housing. He answered I am a retired army veteran and before going into combat I married my high school sweet heart, but we didn t have enough money to buy a home so she lived with her parents until I came back and could start a family. When I came back the economy was not doing very good so we didn t have enough money to buy a real house and decide we would need to move into public housing. Paine s reason for not believing these facts about Jesus is simply because evidence never was given. Paine relays the message to me that he will not believe anything unless there is evidence to support the fact or opinion. Paine relies on evidence. This is one of the many ways that Paine s worldview is different from mine. I rely on faith.
