Design With The Mind In Mind Essay
As the user continues to navigate their way through the application they can explore the relax

the design process of the application was framing. In chapter one of his book Designing with the
Mind in Mind , Johnson discussing the relevance of familiar perceptual patterns or frames. This
entails that the majority of our lives are spent in familiar situations or places like a variety of
schools or offices that all share similar characteristics and each of these create a pattern in our
mind about what we expect to see in each of these different types of locations. For example, if

She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest.
During that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours,
to synchronize our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013).
Moreover, according to Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels
and they concluded that participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their
stay. Similarly, a light blue is the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also
relevant in the other modes with relevant colours such as light green for meditation (Wright
2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we must take in to consideration the limitations
of the application s design. People s perception and the effectiveness of the design are affected
by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals (Johnson 2014). If the user was used to
sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour orange would be more effective in
comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default colour. To counter this on the
relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust the hue of the background.
However, the user may not recognize this as an important factor in their sleep or they may not be
able to identify the best colour for their own personal sleep. In the future I believe

The Effect of Classical Music on Exam Scores Essays
Taking tests in the academic environment has been the mainstay for evaluating student s
comprehension and mastery of concepts learned. Although this can reflect an accurate depiction of
their retained knowledge, many factors may affect the recollection of tested material. Students of
all ages can experience a certain level of stress when entering the testing environment, which may
have a negative impact on their ability to recall information. This stress may reflect an inaccuracy
of what they recalled. Countless factors have been shown to impact test taking ability including
environmental noise or lack thereof, anxiety, and self confidence. These factors affect the students
ability to concentrate and recall learned information leading to... Show more content on

Treatment with a PAI 1 inhibitor reduces bevacizumab induced VTE.
Abstract
Thromboembolism is a major source of morbidity and mortality in patients with cancer. An
increased incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is associated with anti vascular endothelial
growth factor (VEGF) treatment in cancer. However, the mechanism of VTE initiation remains
elusive. In this study, we examined the effect of bevacizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody
against VEGF A, on either an inferior vena cava stenosis or saphenous vein model in a xenograft
mouse model. We found that treatment with bevacizumab accelerated

Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax
Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of
taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most
revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its
citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens.
One crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax
(LVT) which will have
compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the
unimproved value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the
property on the land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and
it has seen successful modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and
even the U.S. state Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States
because the LVT encourages economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the
poor in society while combating harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its
counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the foundation of any economic decision and
often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main arguments in favor of Land Value
Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property buildup which are
economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property taxes
increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said
decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, Economists believe that
LVT is superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a
property, while the former might encourage them to make the highest and best use of their land
(Hurley 2017). In simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative
effects to the owners of said property. This will provide an increase in the development of
properties and previously abandoned lots wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an
invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of a city because if more people decide to

Are all people living in American equal today? The big question that nowadays Americans ask to

Americans and Latino teenagers that also produced breakdancing and graffiti art. Hip Hop culture
is often confused with the hip hop genre. Therefore, Hip Hop culture and movement of the 1980 s
through 2000 s had a negative impact on young African Americans. This is due to the vulgar and
violence of the lyrics in the music. In addition, It has conditioned society to view women in a

What Being A Patriot Means To Me Essay
What Does Being a Patriot Mean to Me? Being a Patriot means to be proud of my country and to
have love and support for it. Support should be present when defending the country s power and
interests. Love should be expressed through kindness and respect to others. As a Patriot, it is my
responsibility to be proud of the accomplishments of my country and to show honor for the efforts
that were made to form and establish my country.
The importance of the United States history should be recognized and valued by Patriots due to its
significance it has in our daily lives. We should be intrigued to learn American History and

including risking their lives to uphold our civil liberties so that we can reside in peace and live in
a free country. As we honor and respect our military, we also can show pride with our government.
Defending the government should be a priority of a Patriot because without the government our
country would lack order and organization and would not be able to prosper and flourish. It is
necessary to be familiar with the issues and interests of the United States of America and to

Gallup Workplace Audit
Introduction
Employee engagement is today s leadership priority. However, the catchphrase goes a long way
back in the beginning of the 21st century. It has gained interest to this date, which can be credited to
Gallup s first version of the Q12 in the 1990s commonly termed as the Gallup Workplace Audit
(Gallup Consulting, 2006). Subsequently, Gallup has continuously refined and expanded their Q12
for current business challenges. Furthermore, several literatures, surveys and evidence based
studies abound that exhibited positive results with employee engagement such as increased
performance, safety, retention and profits among others.
In today s workplace setting, employee engagement is the key to the organization s performance.

Effective Communication Practices
Effective Communication Practices
Communication is defined as the transfer and understanding of meaning (Robbins Judge, 2013) and
is the foundation of every relationship. There are four main reasons for communication in business.
They are to control, motivation, emotional expression and information (Robbins Judge, 2013).
Without effective communication the sharing of ideas, information, feelings and questions cannot be
completed. There is a process to communication and when the process is broken communication is
not effective. In business it is a manager s responsibility to understand the process of
communication, the functions of the communications and to minimize any barriers to
communication so that there is effective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some managers or executives are simply poor listeners causing communication to constantly
break down. When a peer or someone at lower or higher level of the organization is speaking to
them, they may be daydreaming, showing lack of interest, reading, looking around, or listening to
another conversation. Because they are not concentrating on what is being said, they may
misunderstand part or the entire message. They may even believe that they are really paying full
attention only to realize later that they cannot remember parts of the conversation. Receivers may
also bring certain predispositions based on past experiences to the communication process. They
may already have their minds made up, firmly set in a certain way. For instance, a manager may
have heard that his or her new boss is unpleasant and hard to work with. When the new boss calls
the manager for an introductory meeting, the manager may go into that meeting predisposed to
dislike the new boss and pay little attention to what he or she has to say.
Ways to Improve Communication Effectiveness
Considering how many factors can create roadblocks to successful communication, it is fortunate
that we can resort to numerous techniques for improving communication effectiveness. The single
most important individual skill for improving communication effectiveness is being a good listener.
Being a good listener requires the individual be prepared to listen, keep interruptions to a minimum,

RAM also stores the result of a processed data, waiting to be transferred to output device or
secondary storage device. It is a temporary memory and the content of RAM is erased when a
computer is turned off and data stored in it can instantly be accessed.
The storage of RAM is expressed in megabytes and its capacity or size limited. An area of RAM
set aside for storage of most frequently accessed information is the CACHE memory. It is a
temporary high speed data holding area between the memory and the central processing unit.
RAM has four parts: the conventional memory which consist of the first 640KB of RAM, used
by operating system and device drivers; Upper Memory Bound (UMB) located between 640KB and
1MB of RAM, used by device drivers: extended memory (XMS) which include direct access

outside the conventional memory.
Read only memory (ROM) is preloaded with data and software that never changes, so the central
processing unit (CPU) can only read it.ROM is typically used to store the computer s initial start up

Jean Jacques Rousseau Social Contract
The Social Contract In ancient times all men lived in a state of nature until hardships and the
necessity to form a civil society between one another became eminent. Jean Jacques Rousseau s The
Social Contract, analyses the steps and reasoning behind this transition. In Rousseau s work he
focuses on several key terms in order to define this transition clearly, they include: state of nature,
social contract, civil society, general will, and the sovereign.
It would be impossible to define the latter terms without first analyzing Rousseau s definition of
state of nature. This has to do with the fact that none of the terms have relevance without the
existence of the state of nature. According to Rousseau, the state of nature is when ... Show more

These social contracts between individuals are the foundations of our modern societies which
include the general will and the sovereign. Though the civil society and social contract do exist
in today s society, Rousseau s state of nature could never be in existence. In reality, it is
impossible to have ever been in a state of nature. This is supported by Rousseau s idea that at
birth, one is born into a society called family. This society is eventually dissolved but children
eventually build a social contract with individuals as they grow up and mature. Furthermore, this
supports the fact that social contracts and civil societies do exist, even when the state of nature
never did. Each day, this is immanent when one forms social bounds with the people around
them. Rousseau s ideas developed from his time period and his life. He was writing this essay
during the French Revolution which is in itself a perfect example of the destruction of a social
contract between a society and its king and turning into a social contract of the general will of the
population to form a new society. Though our time period may be different then those of Rousseau
s, his message will still have a

This semester during the research paper, there were many challenges to overcome. Among
choosing the topic for the paper, there were entirely too many research articles to go through and
find relevant information. Writing the paper took considerable time as it needed to constantly be
readjusted to let the information flow. The points brought out in the paper do not mesh as nicely
as I would have hoped for, however the information was able to be put in a logical order to
accommodate the start to finish timeline that I was looking for. The main struggle of this paper
became the research. Utilizing the Arizona Western College library database and the JSTOR
database, there were thousands of articles, scholarly journals, peer reviews, etc. that needed to be
sifted through. Among those, I needed to highlight the three main points of the research paper to
narrow those results down. I looked first to find relevant information to the concept and origin of
the space shuttleprogram. That yielded few results yet gave me the background information that I
was looking for. After that had been accomplished, I was able to find information straight from
NASA to identify each shuttle used and significant points during the flights of each one. Lastly, I
had to hone in on the transition from the space shuttle programto the commercial spacecraft that are
being put together to launch the next generation of spaceflight. Once finding the information, the

The Depression Era was a period of major strife brought about by speculation and largely
unregulated business practices. Almost everyone in the United States was affected, even many
citizens of other countries around the world, but the working poor were disproportionately
affected. Factory workers and farmers alike experienced a mass anti union sentiment since before
the turn of the century, and were subject to extremely hazardous working conditions, low wages,

these parties part in his administration (Lipset 283). F.D.R. also forged close relations with radical
politicians like Governor Frank B. Olson of Minnesota that increased his support for labor

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Environment
Climate change has become a major issue in today s society. Coming from the rise of Greenhouse
Gas emissions and changing temperature caused human developments, world leaders and
organisations are working on ways to combat the problem. This includes taking steps towards
renewable energy and a cleaner future. Although, human activity is not the sole cause to the rising
earths temperatures. Besides are use of greenhouse gases and fossil fuels, natural Influences
including the current El NiГ±o period and the natural carbon, nitrogen and water cycles impact our
world. By predicting our outcome using technology, we can prevent major issues that would further

When a positive dipole is in effect, it is usually warm waters in the west and cool waters north of
Australia, with drier conditions and weaker winds (BOM, 2014). A negative dipole is almost
opposite, with warm waters in the north and cool waters in the north west of Australia, which
brings normal rainfall (Linstead, 2012).
Cycles including the nitrogen, carbon and water cycle also have an effect on our climate and can
be affected by both natural and human activity. The processes are all connected and work
together to produced and recycle gases in their biosphere. The carbon cycle is defined by how
natural and man made organisms absorb and release CO2 and carbon gases (British Broadcasting
Corporation [BBC], 2015). This cycle usually begins with the exertion of the gas via decaying
organisms, animal waste and factory emissions, which are then released into the air. These are then
absorbed through photosynthesis (Linstead, 2012). The nitrogen cycle can be split into several
parts which all cycle through the lithosphere and atmosphere. The water cycle consists of the
evaporation of water, to condensation in the clouds to the precipitation of water.
These three cycles can be linked by how human activity affects them. Due to the excessive amounts
of CO2 produced by the use of fossils fuels, vegetation that uses photosynthesis is unable to absorb
the right amount of the gases, leaving them to decay and creating more

The Problem Of Pet Overpopulation
I.Attention Getter: We all see them, those sad little faces that look up at us with their sad eyes.
They need homes and families that love them, they are stray animals.
II.Introduce Topic: Stray animals and pet overpopulation is a serious problem in today s society.
III.Relevance: Every person in this room will either own or come in contact with an animal. We
need to know how we can keep our own animals from contributing to the problem and other ways
we can help solve it.
IV.Credibility: I am a volunteer at one of the local humane societies, I see stray animals come in

That is one every 13 seconds. Only 25 percent of animals in shelters get adopted.
b.Animals that enter shelters are either lost pets that don t have ID tags or microchips or stray and
feral animals who have never known the love of a human.
Transition: Now that we know what a problem animal overpopulation is, let s talk about how we
can help to solve this issue.
II.The best way we can help solve the issue is by getting our own pets spayed or neutered.
a.Spay is the term for female animals while neutering is used for male animals. Both are surgical
procedures to remove the reproductive organs of the animal. By performing these procedures, our
pets cannot contribute to the problem because they cannot reproduce. According to Northwest
Spay and Neuter, if every pet was fixed then the overpopulation problem would be fix in less than
10 years. If we put it into these terms is it easier to understand: just one female dog and her
puppies can result in 67,000 dogs in six years, and one female cat and her kittens can lead to
370,000 cats being born in seven years.
b.There are several benefits to having your own pet spayed or neutered besides helping solve this
crisis. The benefits include reducing the risk of some of the most common types of cancers,
making it likelier for animals to live a longer and healthier life, and nixing aggression problems.

Gary Nash Essay
In the essay written by Gary Nash, he argues that the reason for the American Revolution was not
caused by the defense of constitutional rights and liberties, but that of material conditions of life in
America were not very favorable and that social and economic factors should be considered as the
driving factor that pushed many colonists to revolt. The popular ideology which can be defined as
resonating most strongly within the middle and lower strata of society and went far beyond
constitutional rightsto a discussion of the proper distribution of wealth and power in the social
systemhad a dynamic role in the decisions of many people to revolt. The masses ideas were not of

As the wealthy increased their assets in the cities, at the same time, a large class was impoverished
city dwellers. A huge contrast between the wealthy and the poor were forming and becoming more
apparent from the beginning of the eighteenth century in the colonies. The data that was collected
on the people who were submitted into poor houses clearly with little doubt that the third quarter of
the eighteenth century was an era of severe economic and social dislocation in the cities, and that
by the end of the colonial period a large number of urban dwellers were without property, without
opportunity, and except for public aid, without the means of obtaining the necessities. This evidence
of poverty in the colonies is one that Nash tries to point out to support his argument that there was a
sharp contrast in the distribution of wealth, and that the masses were at this time more focused on
the economy s downfall of the period than defending for constitutional rights and liberties. Protest
sparked as the result of the enormous poverty in the colonies. Frustrated with their living conditions
the middle and lower classes protested violently in the cities. During this time of frustration with the
economic conditions, rank had no privileges, as even the lieutenant governor was shot in

Mrs. Baker
AP English 4
Aggressors and Victims in Catch 22 Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is an obvious satire about modern
day ethics in business, medicine, and the military and the incompetence, pettiness, and corruption
within the bureaucratic ranks of the military. Each of its character s represent something special
and they are either aggressors or victims of the aggressors. The aggressors in the novel are the
ones who bully or manipulate selfishly and heartless. They have zero compassion for human life
and answer only to those with the money and the power. The victims are the ones that are the target
of such bullying and manipulation by the aggressors. The aggressors in the novel are Milo
Minderbinder, ex P.F.C. Wintergreen, Colonel Cathcart, General Dreedle, and Captain Black. The
victims in Catch 22 are Yossarian, Doc Daneeka, Nately, the Chaplain, and Major Major. Milo
Minderbinder, the first aggressor, is satire for modern business and all that is wrong with it. As
a mess officer he runs a lucrative enterprise syndicate and his only real care is profit. He will go
to great lengths to make a profit and he has no allegiance or loyalty to a country, person, or
principle unless it pays him. He cares about no one other than the money and therefore has no real
concern for anyone else. Even though he says that everyone has a share in the profits of the
syndicate, this is not really true, he just says it to make more money for himself with their help.

Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
A Nosocomial Infection is a very distinct infection that occurs in hospital environments. The work
nosocomial literally means of or relating to a hospital. Also known as hospital acquired infections
(or HAI) these occur in unsanitary or unclean hospital environments and can be contracted by
hospital staff, hospital patients and visitors. Infections can be generally described as bacterial or
fungal. Nosocomial infections will often cause urinary tract infections, and pneumonia among other
things depending on the patient s reaction to the infection.

Gram negative bacteria are completely resistant to antibiotics. These bacteria is a primary threat to
hospital patients with weak immune systems and is less likely to affect staff members.
As for the spread of nosocomial infections, methods include airborne travel, direct person to person
contact, droplets, vermin transmission (or vector borne transmission) and tangible vehicles found
in hospitals. Airborne travel occurs when simple droplet nuclei of microorganisms remain in the air
for extended periods of time. An example would be a sneeze or dust particles. Once these particles
are inhaled by a host the infection can be contracted. Person to person contact is the most frequent
transmission and includes a hand shake, touching, rubbing, patting, etc. Droplets are transmitted
through certain operations involving the mouth, nose or throat, including bronchoscopy as well as
coughing, sneezing and talking. Vermin is also a method of travel for these microorganisms as rats,
roaches, mosquitoes and flies. Lastly, common hospital utilities and equipment, when they are not
properly cleaned, can become a vehicle for contact. These may include medications, hospital
devices, tools and equipment, even water and food.

The Right To Privacy In The 18th Century
The right to privacy is viewed as a fundamental right all over the world. However, there are many
interpretations of what privacy is, and this interpretations are in some way related to historical
events that shaped the meaning of privacy differently for every country. Countries of the European
Union consider the right to privacy a sacred right, therefore, they have established laws to protect
the respect for private and family life and the right to personal data protection. Although United
States has some sector laws to protect privacy, the constitution does not mention privacy as
fundamental right, nonetheless, the notion of privacy can be extracted from the first 10
amendments of the constitution. Consequently, regulation of the right to privacy changes

Kantian Views On War
While readings from Thucydides, Aristotle, and Machiavelli provide unique insight in the way
war is justified in early civil society, the introduction of globalization into international relations
leads us to ask if early theories regarding war and justice are still relevant to new and complex
power relationships. For the purpose of creating practical connections, I intend to look at several
possible jus in bello applications of two contemporary military technologies: nuclear weapons and
drones (otherwise known as Unmanned Armed Vehicles). There are many cases of emerging
military technologies that raise valuable question in regards to just acts of war, but I chose these two
in particular because of they provide two seemingly opposing perspectives... Show more content on

In Perpetual Peace, Kant supplies firstly that the suspension of hostilities does not supply the
security of peace, and unless this security is pledged... the latter... can treat the former as an enemy
(111). He then supplies that nations never have a right to war and that without a contract among
nations peace can be neither inaugurated nor guaranteed (117). The argument that the suspension
of hostilities does not create long term peace is not one that I intend to invalidate, but the case of
nuclear weapons does provide an example of its suspended use having acted as an effective
deterrent for military conflict (while still, admittedly, allowing for tension and ideological
conflicts). The Cold War and the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction between the US and the
USSR forces us to consider the ways that nuclear weapons could potentially create extended
periods of peace simply due to the notion that nuclear weapons might have symbolic power beyond
the kinds of hostilities that Kant imagined. Kant described here a league of peace that ensured
peaceful actions among nations, and while such leagues have and do exist now, we have not
reached an era of global peace. This is what makes the ideology of nuclear peace so compelling
towards a Kantian perspective: the argument that the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction can
create international stability in the face of major ideological conflicts does not ignore existing
hostile sentiments but it does give the concept of perpetual peace substance and practicality that
existing international leagues cannot always provide. Such a theory, however, while compelling, is
ultimately flawed in that it assumes that all

The Quality Of Drinking Water
The Quality of Drinking Water and its Impact on Human Health
There are only few things that tie us directly to the natural environment; one such thing is the
water that we drink daily. Water is one of the most valuable natural resources and we cannot live
without it. I personally never thought much of the importance of water in our daily life, till
about a three years ago when my mother was diagnosed with final stage of colon cancer. My
father, a nature lover all his life, through out every trip made to Romania, would literally drag me
out of the house in the early morning hours and have me go with him in a nearby forest to get
spring water. He believed that this infinite spring water source was the cure for my mother disease.
Therefore, when I needed to choose a topic for my research, the quality of drinking water and its
impact on human health is what came to mind. Simply because I felt it is something we all seem
to overlook, even though every day we are all dependent on the daily water intake and we do
require its need of purity, free of any contaminants, for a good hydration and health.
Because water is of great significance and since it is used for drinking and in preparing our daily
food; I began to realize that in today s world with all the environmental changes, there are a lot
unanswered questions about the type of water that we drink. The dilemma lies between: tap water,
bottled water or filtered water; and the question are: which one to choose? And how is one

of them have something to do with agriculture because the plow tills the land and Oklahoma is
filled with cattle ranches and farms. Also Rulon Gardener a farm boy/ olympian grew up using
things like the plow to work and till the land. Another example is that Dale Earnhardt jr. a
NASCAR driver is an athlete along with Rulon. Fear the thing that stops us from walking into
traffic or answering the door during the middle of the night is in everyone because without it we
would jump off of a building and hold poisonous snakes because we would not think before... Show

Fear is a chemical chain reaction in the brain. It is in the part of the brain that allows us to
communicate and to speak with other people ( Layton, Julia ). The idea is an autonomic
response in the brain with many parts of the brain involved. Fear starts with a scary stimulus and
ends with a fight or flight response telling the human to fight back or run away. It starts with two
processes the quick and messy way, and the clear and slow way ( Layton, Julia ). The quick way
is when you are panicking and out of breath and the clear way takes a while and is when you
calm down and realize it was nothing. Both of the processes happen simultaneously ( Layton,
Julia ). The brain uses your blood stream and nervous system to create fear. When your muscles
tighten and your heart races, you are probably in a state of fear. Without fear you would walk into
traffic or pick up poisonous snakes. Fear saves our lives ( Layton,

Common Components Of Digital Database Management Applications
A DBMS can also provide many perspectives of a single database schema. A perspective
characterizes what information the client sees and how that client sees the information. The DBMS
gives a level of reflection between the reasonable diagram which characterizes the legitimate
structure of the database and the physical construction that portrays the records, files and other
physical instruments utilized by the database. At the point when a DBMS is utilized, frameworks
can be adjusted all the more effectively when business prerequisites changes. New classifications of
information can be added to the database without aggravating the current framework and
applications can be protected from how data is organized and put away.

It is used to access or manipulate records or rows within a relational database. Primary key is the
field containing a unique label identifying a record or row in a table. Each table has a least one
primary key. Keys should be meaningful to the data being stored.
Examples: employee ID number, Social Security number
Queries:
Queries are the searches initiated by users to retrieve information from the database. It consists of
sets of variables or keywords formatted in a query language. SQL is one of the query language.
(Parrish, 1997)
Example of SQL query:
SELECT title FROM songs, artists, WHERE songs.artists=groups.ID AND groups. Name=
Madonna
Database models:
Database models represents the way data is stored and determines how data is retrieved and
manipulated. There are four main database models. They are: Flat, Relational, Hierarchical and
Network. (Johnson., 1997)
(Nicolai, Database Security and Review, 2016)
Object Oriented Databases:
Object oriented database management systems allows storing and retrieving objects and complex
data types such as CAD files, Artificial intelligence objects, XML compatible objects, General
multimedia (audio and video). Originally, we re not widely adopted to object oriented databases
when released in 1985. But, used in specialized areas today. Database type is determined by data
that will be housed in it. (Kim, 1990) There are

The Legacy Of College Admissions
College admissions are simple. They check your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores and see if your
scores match their expectations. If you do, they will take you. If you don t, they will reject you.
What about if your score is in the middle? What if you don t quite meet their expectations, but
you don t really fall below them? Legacy is like a tiebreaker or the cherry on top of the cake, but
currently is a very controversial topic. Being a legacy student can cause a significant impact on the
admission process. It also gives you a huge advantage over non legacy students. Being a legacy
student has the potential of getting you admitted into the collegethat you want, even if you don t
meet all the requirements. UW should take legacy into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not that universities and colleges only do this for money, they also do this for tradition, better
reputation, loyal students, and an overall appreciation for the college of the university.
Having legacy students at the institution will greatly benefit UW by receiving donations from
them. With colleges and universities becoming businesses, the high rate of monetary support by
legacies and their parents is viewed as crucial for that institution to be financially sound and
successful. Moreover, over three quarters of legacies have a parent with a high status occupation,
compared to about 62% of students with college degree parents and less than one third of students
with no degree parents. This means that the parents of legacy students are usually wealthier than
non legacies. This also means that with wealthier parents, the chance of a donation or donations to
that college or university is most likely to substantially increase. Moving on, legacies arrive on
campus forming a distinct status group that is characterized by an abundance of economic, cultural
and social capital. With economic capital, they are more likely to participate in activities and spend
more money. And it is what colleges or universities desire, more money. By partaking in college or
university activities, the student will grow fonder of it later on and might donate to support the
institution. In the

Sexual Assault In Canada
Sexual assault is one of the most offensive and depraved crimes that exist in our society today.
The physical and psychological toll that this act has on its victims is as incalculable as it is
incomprehensible. A sexual assault in Canada is defined as all incidents of unwanted sexual
activity, including sexual attacks and sexual touching. Victims of these acts reported feeling angry,
confused, frustrated and fearful. The General Social Survey (GSS) on Victimization shows that
young women and girls are at a greater risk for victimization, making them especially vulnerable
between the ages of 15 and 24. It is important to note that the GSS does not include information on
anyone under the age of 14. According to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proximate causes refer to the immediate event that produce a behaviour or some other phenotypic
trait, including genes, hormones and environmental stimuli. They refer to how such developmental
or physiological mechanisms cause something to happen, but they do not explain why they happen
(Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). Ultimate causation refers to why behaviours happen, under what
evolutionary pressures of genetic selection the behaviours evolved. It is important to note that
these adapted for traits or behaviours do not necessarily mean that they are something that we
consider to be moral or desirable, but they were good in the terms of natural selection. There is no
connection between what is biological or naturally selected and what is morally right or wrong
(Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). People are driven by proximal influences, but these influences may
have been shaped by ultimate causes (Bennell et al., 2011). They are complements to each other,
not alternatives. What is not understood is if the evolutionary cause of human rape is a result of rape
specific adaption or a by product of other adaptions (Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000).

Adherence Of Chronic Disease Article Essay
INTRODUCTION I decided to write about the Adherence to Chronic Disease article because
people do not see how important is to follow the doctors orders. When somebody is in pain he or
she immediately goes to the hospital expecting to get better and feel nothing the next day. Some
do not even go until the pain is unbearable. People need to realize that our bodies do not work that
way. The damage that we had caused cannot be repaired in a couple of hours, but it takes months
even years to treat some illness. And to get positive results people have to follow the treatment.
Adherence is extremely important, especially for the prevention and control of cardiovascular
disease.
In the article, it mentions the results of non adherence like the growth of hospitalizations, deaths
and it also mentions the increasing costs of care. To avoid those results, there are some known
adherence barriers like counting the number of medications given per fill or the number of visits to
the pharmacy monthly but these are mostly being used by individual health care delivery
organizations or managed care plans. But the implementation of achievable mechanisms of control
to evaluate and monitor are needed. The New York State (NYS) Department of Health, the New
York City (NYC) Health Department created a method to evaluate adherence among NYC
Medicaid participants and to manage future interventions.
METHODS
Participants
Patients that live in New York City between the ages of 24 and 60 who were

Businesses and Proprietorship
Businesses are started every day, and each one is different in its own special way, but no matter
what type of business it is, a sole proprietorship, a general or limited partnership, a C or S
corporation, or a limited liability it will still be affected in some way by seven basic
characteristics. The characteristics of business; liability, income tax, longevity or continuity,
control, profit retention, location, and convenience or burden. In this paper a description of each
business type and how they are affected by the seven characteristics of business will be given,
showing the clear advantage and disadvantages of each type of business.
Sole proprietorship
A sole proprietorship is a business that has no legal separate existence from its owner.
The characteristics that are the greatest advantages to this type of business are its freedoms. A sole
proprietorship has complete control and decision making power over the business. There are no
corporate tax payments and profits are not shared; however income and losses are taxed on the
individual s personal income tax return.
And this brings me to the disadvantages of owning a sole proprietorship. Liability is the biggest; it
falls solely on the owner of the business. In the event that penalties or debts have to be paid,
payments come from the personal assets of the owner. The burdens that come with maintaining the
business and the standards of it fall on the owner despite the number of employees. The success of

William Butler Yeats Essay
William Butler Yeats
An Irish poet, dramatist, and prose writer
Known for having intellectual and often obsucure poetry works
Quoted to be one of the greatest English language poets of the 20th century
Even Received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923 o What was most recognizable about that
fact is that he is famous for his lyrical poetic works that came after the prize

time spent in college and much emotional growth and change o Prompted his discovery of Ireland
as a literary subject and his commitment to the cause of Irish national identity o He sought in his
writing to create a fresh tradition and a unique style. He attempted to create a literature that was
Irish in subject matter and tone.
1910, Yeats s dramatic art took a sharp turn toward a highly poetical and mysterious style.
His later plays were written for small audiences; they experimented with masks, dance, and music,
and were profoundly influenced by the Japanese Noh plays. Although a convinced patriot, Yeats
deplored the hatred and the bigotry of the Nationalist movement, and his poetry is full of moving
protests against it
His recurrent themes are the contrast of art and life, masks, cyclical theories of life and the ideal of
beauty and ceremony contrasting with the chaos of modern life.
Yeats had the unique ability to take fantasy,

An important consideration made during the design process of the application was framing. In chapter one of his book Designing with the Mind in Mind , Johnson discussing the relevance of familiar perceptual patterns or frames. This entails that the majority of our lives are spent in familiar situations or places like a variety of schools or offices that all share similar characteristics and each of these create a pattern in our mind about what we expect to see in each of these different types of locations. She concluded that there is a preparation stage that the body goes through prior to deep rest. During that preparation stage, the body uses external or environmental clues, light and colours, to synchronize our circadian biological clock to the cycle of the sun s light (Smith 2013). Moreover, according to Hauck, a study was conducted with the assistant of Travelodge hotels and they concluded that participants that slept in blue rooms received the best sleep during their stay. Similarly, a light blue is the colour users will be exposed to prior to rest. This is also relevant in the other modes with relevant colours such as light green for meditation (Wright 2008/2017) and so on and so forth. Furthermore, we must take in to consideration the limitations of the application s design. People s perception and the effectiveness of the design are affected by the user s past experiences, the context and their goals (Johnson 2014). If the user was used to sleeping in an orange room as a child than perhaps the colour orange would be more effective in comforting them for sleep in contrast with the pale blue default colour. To counter this on the relaxation screens the user has a control bar that allows them to adjust the hue of the background. However, the user may not recognize this as an important factor in their sleep or they may not be able to identify the best colour for their own personal sleep. In the future I believe ... • 7. Persuasive Essay On Land Value Tax Taxes have always been a contentious subject in any political discourse. Tax rates, methods of taxation, and other such details are constantly debated and reshaped in order to generate the most revenue and best serve the public. It is the responsibility of the government to pass fair taxes on its citizens that provide optimum efficiency as well as tangible benefits to the welfare of its citizens. One crucial reform to taxation that is being proposed is the Land Value Tax (LVT) which will have compounding benefits to the country it is implemented in. A LVT is a tax levied on the unimproved value of land as opposed to property taxes which take into account the value of the property on the land itself. The idea of LVT originated all the way back to the 18th century and it has seen successful modern application in countries like Australia, Hong Kong and Estonia and even the U.S. state Pennsylvania. Land Value Tax must be implemented in the United States because the LVT encourages economic decision making, it is a progressive tax that benefits the poor in society while combating harmful speculation and it is more efficient than its counterpart, property taxes. Financial risk is the foundation of any economic decision and often more risk results in a greater reward. One of the main arguments in favor of Land Value Taxes is that they will incentivize home improvement and property buildup which are economically risky decisions. The reason for this is that in the status quo, property taxes increase when a property is improved or built upon which discourages people from making said decisions. According to Amanda Hurley from The Architect magazine, Economists believe that LVT is superior to a property tax because the latter disincentivizes owners from improving a property, while the former might encourage them to make the highest and best use of their land (Hurley 2017). In simple terms, deciding to build upon or improve property has no negative effects to the owners of said property. This will provide an increase in the development of properties and previously abandoned lots wherever the LVT is extolled. Development is an invaluable barometer for the economic prosperity of a city because if more people decide to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because they are not concentrating on what is being said, they may misunderstand part or the entire message. They may even believe that they are really paying full attention only to realize later that they cannot remember parts of the conversation. Receivers may also bring certain predispositions based on past experiences to the communication process. They may already have their minds made up, firmly set in a certain way. Jean Jacques Rousseau Social Contract The Social Contract In ancient times all men lived in a state of nature until hardships and the necessity to form a civil society between one another became eminent. Jean Jacques Rousseau s The Social Contract, analyses the steps and reasoning behind this transition. In Rousseau s work he focuses on several key terms in order to define this transition clearly, they include: state of nature, social contract, civil society, general will, and the sovereign. Though the civil society and social contract do exist in today s society, Rousseau s state of nature could never be in existence. In reality, it is impossible to have ever been in a state of nature. This is supported by Rousseau s idea that at birth, one is born into a society called family. Furthermore, this supports the fact that social contracts and civil societies do exist, even when the state of nature never did. A negative dipole is almost opposite, with warm waters in the north and cool waters in the north west of Australia, which brings normal rainfall (Linstead, 2012). Cycles including the nitrogen, carbon and water cycle also have an effect on our climate and can be affected by both natural and human activity. The processes are all connected and work together to produced and recycle gases in their biosphere. The carbon cycle is defined by how natural and man made organisms absorb and release CO2 and carbon gases (British Broadcasting Corporation [BBC], 2015). This cycle usually begins with the exertion of the gas via decaying organisms, animal waste and factory emissions, which are then released into the air. These are then absorbed through photosynthesis (Linstead, 2012). The nitrogen cycle can be split into several parts which all cycle through the lithosphere and atmosphere. The water cycle consists of the evaporation of water, to condensation in the clouds to the precipitation of water. These three cycles can be linked by how human activity affects them. Due to the excessive amounts of CO2 produced by the use of fossils fuels, vegetation that uses photosynthesis is unable to absorb the right amount of the gases, leaving them to decay and creating more ... The popular ideology which can be defined as resonating most strongly within the middle and lower strata of society and went far beyond constitutional rightsto a discussion of the proper distribution of wealth and power in the social systemhad a dynamic role in the decisions of many people to revolt. This evidence of poverty in the colonies is one that Nash tries to point out to support his argument that there was a sharp contrast in the distribution of wealth, and that the masses were at this time more focused on the economy s downfall of the period than defending for constitutional rights and liberties. Protest sparked as the result of the enormous poverty in the colonies. Frustrated with their living conditions the middle and lower classes protested violently in the cities. For the purpose of creating practical connections, I intend to look at several possible jus in bello applications of two contemporary military technologies: nuclear weapons and drones (otherwise known as Unmanned Armed Vehicles). There are many cases of emerging military technologies that raise valuable question in regards to just acts of war, but I chose these two in particular because of they provide two seemingly opposing perspectives... In Perpetual Peace, Kant supplies firstly that the suspension of hostilities does not supply the security of peace, and unless this security is pledged... the latter... can treat the former as an enemy (111). He then supplies that nations never have a right to war and that without a contract among nations peace can be neither inaugurated nor guaranteed (117). The argument that the suspension of hostilities does not create long term peace is not one that I intend to invalidate, but the case of nuclear weapons does provide an example of its suspended use having acted as an effective deterrent for military conflict (while still, admittedly, allowing for tension and ideological conflicts). The Cold War and the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction between the US and the USSR forces us to consider the ways that nuclear weapons could potentially create extended periods of peace simply due to the notion that nuclear weapons might have symbolic power beyond the kinds of hostilities that Kant imagined. Kant described here a league of peace that ensured peaceful actions among nations, and while such leagues have and do exist now, we have not reached an era of global peace. This is what makes the ideology of nuclear peace so compelling towards a Kantian perspective: the argument that the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction can create international stability in the face of major ideological conflicts does not ignore existing hostile sentiments but it does give the concept of perpetual peace substance and practicality that existing international leagues cannot always provide. The Quality Of Drinking Water The Quality of Drinking Water and its Impact on Human Health There are only few things that tie us directly to the natural environment; one such thing is the water that we drink daily. Water is one of the most valuable natural resources and we cannot live without it. I personally never thought much of the importance of water in our daily life, till about a three years ago when my mother was diagnosed with final stage of colon cancer. My father, a nature lover all his life, through out every trip made to Romania, would literally drag me out of the house in the early morning hours and have me go with him in a nearby forest to get spring water. He believed that this infinite spring water source was the cure for my mother disease. Simply because I felt it is something we all seem to overlook, even though every day we are all dependent on the daily water intake and we do require its need of purity, free of any contaminants, for a good hydration and health. Because water is of great significance and since it is used for drinking and in preparing our daily food; I began to realize that in today s world with all the environmental changes, there are a lot unanswered questions about the type of water that we drink. • 42. The Legacy Of College Admissions College admissions are simple. They check your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores and see if your scores match their expectations. If you do, they will take you. If you don t, they will reject you. What about if your score is in the middle? What if you don t quite meet their expectations, but you don t really fall below them? Legacy is like a tiebreaker or the cherry on top of the cake, but currently is a very controversial topic. Being a legacy student can cause a significant impact on the admission process. It also gives you a huge advantage over non legacy students. Being a legacy student has the potential of getting you admitted into the collegethat you want, even if you don t meet all the requirements. UW should take legacy into... Not that universities and colleges only do this for money, they also do this for tradition, better reputation, loyal students, and an overall appreciation for the college of the university. Having legacy students at the institution will greatly benefit UW by receiving donations from them. With colleges and universities becoming businesses, the high rate of monetary support by legacies and their parents is viewed as crucial for that institution to be financially sound and successful. Moreover, over three quarters of legacies have a parent with a high status occupation, compared to about 62% of students with college degree parents and less than one third of students with no degree parents. This means that the parents of legacy students are usually wealthier than non legacies. This also means that with wealthier parents, the chance of a donation or donations to that college or university is most likely to substantially increase. Moving on, legacies arrive on campus forming a distinct status group that is characterized by an abundance of economic, cultural and social capital. With economic capital, they are more likely to participate in activities and spend more money. And it is what colleges or universities desire, more money. By partaking in college or university activities, the student will grow fonder of it later on and might donate to support the institution. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Sexual Assault In Canada Sexual assault is one of the most offensive and depraved crimes that exist in our society today. The physical and psychological toll that this act has on its victims is as incalculable as it is incomprehensible. A sexual assault in Canada is defined as all incidents of unwanted sexual activity, including sexual attacks and sexual touching. Victims of these acts reported feeling angry, confused, frustrated and fearful. The General Social Survey (GSS) on Victimization shows that young women and girls are at a greater risk for victimization, making them especially vulnerable between the ages of 15 and 24. It is important to note that the GSS does not include information on anyone under the age of 14. According to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Proximate causes refer to the immediate event that produce a behaviour or some other phenotypic trait, including genes, hormones and environmental stimuli. They refer to how such developmental or physiological mechanisms cause something to happen, but they do not explain why they happen (Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). Ultimate causation refers to why behaviours happen, under what evolutionary pressures of genetic selection the behaviours evolved. It is important to note that these adapted for traits or behaviours do not necessarily mean that they are something that we consider to be moral or desirable, but they were good in the terms of natural selection. There is no connection between what is biological or naturally selected and what is morally right or wrong (Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). People are driven by proximal influences, but these influences may have been shaped by ultimate causes (Bennell et al., 2011). They are complements to each other, not alternatives. What is not understood is if the evolutionary cause of human rape is a result of rape specific adaption or a by product of other adaptions (Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). Finkelhor s Precondition Model Dr. David Finkelhor is considered to be a pioneer with research that he has conducted with regards to child sexual abuse. He was the first to propose a factor system explaining why some people commit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Adherence Of Chronic Disease Article Essay INTRODUCTION I decided to write about the Adherence to Chronic Disease article because people do not see how important is to follow the doctors orders. When somebody is in pain he or she immediately goes to the hospital expecting to get better and feel nothing the next day. Some do not even go until the pain is unbearable. People need to realize that our bodies do not work that way. The damage that we had caused cannot be repaired in a couple of hours, but it takes months even years to treat some illness. And to get positive results people have to follow the treatment. Adherence is extremely important, especially for the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease. In the article, it mentions the results of non adherence like the growth of hospitalizations, deaths and it also mentions the increasing costs of care. To avoid those results, there are some known adherence barriers like counting the number of medications given per fill or the number of visits to the pharmacy monthly but these are mostly being used by individual health care delivery organizations or managed care plans. But the implementation of achievable mechanisms of control to evaluate and monitor are needed. The New York State (NYS) Department of Health, the New York City (NYC) Health Department created a method to evaluate adherence among NYC Medicaid participants and to manage future interventions. METHODS Participants Patients that live in New York City between the ages of 24 and 60 who were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Businesses and Proprietorship Businesses are started every day, and each one is different in its own special way, but no matter what type of business it is, a sole proprietorship, a general or limited partnership, a C or S corporation, or a limited liability it will still be affected in some way by seven basic characteristics. The characteristics of business; liability, income tax, longevity or continuity, control, profit retention, location, and convenience or burden. In this paper a description of each business type and how they are affected by the seven characteristics of business will be given, showing the clear advantage and disadvantages of each type of business. Sole proprietorship A sole proprietorship is a business that has no legal separate existence from its owner. The characteristics that are the greatest advantages to this type of business are its freedoms. A sole proprietorship has complete control and decision making power over the business. There are no corporate tax payments and profits are not shared; however income and losses are taxed on the individual s personal income tax return. And this brings me to the disadvantages of owning a sole proprietorship. Liability is the biggest; it falls solely on the owner of the business. In the event that penalties or debts have to be paid, payments come from the personal assets of the owner. The burdens that come with maintaining the business and the standards of it fall on the owner despite the number of employees. The success of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He attempted to create a literature that was Irish in subject matter and tone. 1910, Yeats s dramatic art took a sharp turn toward a highly poetical and mysterious style. His later plays were written for small audiences; they experimented with masks, dance, and music, and were profoundly influenced by the Japanese Noh plays. Although a convinced patriot, Yeats deplored the hatred and the bigotry of the Nationalist movement, and his poetry is full of moving protests against it His recurrent themes are the contrast of art and life, masks, cyclical theories of life and the ideal of beauty and ceremony contrasting with the chaos of modern life.
