Hercules of the Skies Essay
There were many important people, aircraft, and developments, which greatly contributed to aviation
development, which ultimately impacted the World. Out of many aviation developments, I will write
about an aircraft I take pleasure in seeing and hearing, the C 130 Hercules. I consider this aircraft has
made a significant impact in the aviation industry, most in the dependability of the airframe and its
illustrious design. Today, this aircraft is used for many organizations such as Military Ops,
firefighting, and search and rescue. The military is the primary user of this aircraft, for it uses it for
many tactical operations. But what makes this aircraft so grand? The ability to land on short runways
and the ability to fly slow with load, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is modernized with computer systems instead of steam gauges. What I think makes the C 130 in
general momentous, is the number of international countries that are using this airframe. Over 60
countries are using this aircraft and it is no surprise since it has been in operation since the 50 s! ( Air
Force Technology (2011, May 5)). A big contribution to this outstanding airframe has to be given to
the developers, the company Lockheed or Lockheed Martin. An astonishing fact is that the same
company has made this aircraft for over 50 years; this just shows that Lockheed knows how to design
and manufacture lasting aircraft to persevere with modern technology. I would say that the years this
aircraft has been in service is enough in itself to say how it impacted the aviation industry, giving it
new means of how to create lasting aircraft for the high demand for its operations.
A few decades ago, the military needed an upgrade on its cargo and troop carrying capabilities. In the
1950 s, the less modern World War II cargo aircraft were the C 190, C 47, and C 46 s. These did not
meet the requirements for a continuously modernizing U.S. Military. (Simpson, M. (2011, October
19)). Therefore, in 1951, the U.S. Air Force put out a General Operating Requirement for a new
airframe that will meet specifications in the category s of how many passengers or paratroopers it will
hold, as well as size

A Study On The Mammalian Diving Reflex
Introduction: The mammalian diving reflex represents a primary physiological mechanism to
maximize underwater excursions in air breathing animals. Traditionally, the oxygen conserving reflex
consists of three metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments: (1) notable bradycardia; (2) selective
peripheral vasoconstriction; and (3) increased blood flow to the viscera (Kawakami et al., 1967).
Previous studies have observed such a response in birds and mammals, generalizing the considerable
reduction of heart rate, or diving bradycardia, as indicative of the response (Butler, 1982). The
evolutionary success of these diving animals relies partly on the functional significance of reducing
metabolic demands to prologue underwater survival. Although ... Show more content on

Moreover, Gooden (1994) describes apnea as an essential element to the diving reflex; it ensures not
only the prevention of water inhalation, but also acts as an energy saving device through decreasing
nerve stimulation to the diaphragm and intercostals. Therefore, heart rate will be monitored under both
experimental conditions and compared to the resting rate and apneic resting rate. As a profound
autonomic phenomenon, further establishment of the diving reflex in humans will shed light on the
preservation of the reflex and its role in the survival during near drowning experiences. Only by
examining the physiological response in humans can we appreciate the evolutionary significance of
this innate neural circuitry.
Methods:
An untrained 22 year old male human subject was chosen. A PT 104 pulse plethysmograph was
wrapped around his dominant (right) index finger. Connected through a IXTA data acquisition unit,
heart rate was monitored on LabScribe. The recordings were measured with ten seconds of leeway at
the beginning and end to allow baseline pulse recovery. Digital marks labeled the time interval of the
described action. First the subject s heart rate was measured during a resting phase for twenty seconds.
He was encouraged to relax and remain inactive in order to confirm an accurate baseline reading. For
the apneic condition, the subject repeated this

Compare And Contrast Arm Wrestling With My Father And...
In their recent work, Brad Manning and Sarah Vowell have written about more than one way to have a
close, but different relationship with their fathers. There is has always been a belief that to get along
with someone you would have normal conversations, enjoy each other s company, or share a common
interest. In the story they love their father as any other child would, but their ways of communication
are not the same and are different from a common father child relationship. Both authors use rhetorical
devices as a framework for differentiating their relationships with their fathers by characterizing them.
In both stories Arm Wrestling with My Father, and Shooting Dad, the authors use different rhetorical
strategies that allow them to exemplify their actual feelings of how they relate to their father s. They
also employ similar rhetorical devices yet are used differently. Ours had always been a physical
relationship, I suppose, one determined by athleticism and strength. Manning emphasizes how his
relationship with his father is very physical and nonverbal. Manning describes the differences in
perception of his father s arms, symbolizing the change in their relationship that was about to take
place. Whereas when Vowell states, if you were passing by the house where I grew up during my
teenage years and it happened to be before Election Day, you wouldn t have needed to come inside to
see that it was house divided, Vowell looks back on her childhood to explain that

comfortable during your workout. Twisting side to side is an example.
Static stretching is meant to be performed at the end of your workout. Its never advised to use static
stretching before a competition. An example of this would be holding out one leg in front of you, and
holding it.
Its your responsibility to understand what you need. Don t be afraid to ask questions of people that

Serial Killer Nature Vs Nurture
Serial Killers: Nature vs. Nurture
Crime over the years has become a very popular subject. There are countless movies, shows, books
and documentaries about such events. Individuals are very entertained for one reason or another by
these types of shows. There have been many discussions, debates and research studies done
particularly pertaining to the question What causes someone to become a serial killer? Psychologists,
criminologists and scientists agree that the Nature nurture debate is the most essential phenomenon in
psychology. Researchers have conducted a lot of research to be able to answer the question What
causes a person to commit a murder? . The popular and logical hypothesis is that criminal behavior is
more complicated than it had been thought and they say that a person s genetic makeup creates
criminal behavior (It is called nature.) While others suggest that criminal behavior is solely related
with a person s upbringing and life experience (It is called nurture.) (Newton 2006). Both opinions of
this subject are on polar opposite sides. While one side states that if0 someone has a rough childhood
and are faced with severe adversity they have a greater chance of becoming a serial killer. An example
would be Edmund Kemper. The opposing side states that a person is born with a certain set of genes
that could turn them into a serial killer. A prime example would be Ted Bundy or Charles Manson.
This is a highly diverse debate among scientists and criminologists

Effective Training Program Essay
Exercise is done by majority of people in order to improve one s health and fitness. Everyone is able
to improve their own health and fitness by exercising in order to achieve proficient physical abilities.
Not only can an individual perform and commit to particular activities for personal health, but also
purposes such as sport performance, body size, strength and conditioning, etc; all of which can be
achieved from specific exercises performed consistently with the appropriate nutrition and rest in
place. Athletes typically do exercise in order to become proficient at their own fitness and specified
skills of their sport. Thus if all individuals perform exercise, we can refer even those that do not
compete at sports as being athletes in respective of their fitness and becoming proficient at it; the
difference being individuals training for only their personal well being. The most important aspect

Thus, a training program must be utilized to help adapt the body to perform specific tasks at a certain
level. An effective training program is essential in order to maximize results over time, and programs
can be adjusted to the goals of the individual. There are 4 major programs that can be viewed:
periodization, interval training, fartlek training, and calisthenics; widely used systems of exercise
training. This report will examine the structure of each program, and their major benefits and
drawbacks.
The first training program is called periodization. This program divides the training process into
specific phases or mesocycles, over a certain amount of time, focusing the manipulation of training
variables such as loads, sets, and repetitions, in order to maximize training adaptations. Selye s
General Adaptation Syndrome was the classic understanding of periodization, stating that systems will

By adopting elements of UCC, the Onling gaming community web portal can provide all the
information that users need, without forcing them to research external information sites, therefore
becoming far more self serving and robust. Web Portal Design Web portals in the past were seen
primarily as gateways as was stated earlier, thereby limiting the creative control administrators could
have over the design of the web site. Due to the shift in functionality of web portals however, as well
as the added value of UCC, it has become increasingly challenging to design web sites where users
can find exactly what they are looking for (Fang, et al, 2004). Prominent gaming portals IGN (Fox
Media, 1996), and Gamespot (Deemer, et al, 1996), display the attributes of good web design, limiting
the amount of useless hyperlinks, and utilises taxonomy for articles to make them easier for users to
access the information they need. Gamespot also allows for a degree of personalisation within the site
allowing users to select which background and forum theme they wish to use, whose selection will be
stored with the user account information, and this personalisation can help the users feel connected to
the portal, thereby ensuring their continued presence (Bellas, et al, 2004). A web portal needs

All the computers plugged in the same outlet, or into the same switch or router are affected by the
power surges. The other common culprit of internal network card failure is malware. Given the crucial
role that NIC cards play in connecting computers to networks, network cards are a major target for
malware. If malware can get access to the network interface controller, then the hacker can gain access
to all of the networking data that passes through the computer. Technically speaking, malware does
not directly damage the physical hardware of network cards, so there is no reason to replace the NIC
hardware. What a malware does is hurt the software (the device driver) that controls the network card,
and that can effectively render the network card faulty. If we suppose that the card is hypothetical
culprit then, we will take some action to confirm the hypothesis.
Physical test: we check the Ethernet cable (cable plugged into the card and the outlet on the wall),
switch and router. Result of the test: Cable, switch and router are all working well. Then we move on
the next step.
Logical Test: on the computer, we need to check if the card is responding to a request (internal this

Consumer s Role On Creating More Garbage Over The Years
The issues pertaining to consumer s role on creating more garbage over the years remains to be a
controversial topic within the social and economic realms. Some issues that are in support of garbage
include brining in revenue to the district, employs a great amount of people, feeds our economy by
stimulating consumerism and the economy, allows individuals to live a mobile life, helps to keep
disease away and sanitary living conditions, convenient in regards to disposing unwanted materials,
and encourages composting. According to an organization called Less is More, Organic wastes, such
as food waste and yard waste, make up 25 to 50% of what people throw away...composting can
significantly cut down on your overall trash. Due to Americans now living in closer proximities to
each other more garbage is being produced, but by understanding how compost their garbage
efficiently can allow them to spend more on goods on the market. Some values that are in support of
garbage include prosperity, valuing one s quality of life and best interests, morality, and wanting the
best for their health. Some issues that are not in support of garbage include the creation of excessive
trash and unnecessary pollution, endangering animals with trash, landfills and the toxins released,
improperly disposing of garbage, truck pollution from weekly trash pick ups, non biodegradable
products, lack of regard when disposing their trash, not aesthetically pleasing, and wasting valuable

Relationship Between Culture And Economic Incentives
In the following, I will argue that in order to understand change we need a concrete understanding of
the relationship between culture and economic incentives, not a set primacy of one over the other.
Change should ideally be explained by a synthesis in which both culture and economic incentives are
taken into account. It is not only about stating that there is a relationship but also about analysing how
that relationship works in terms of mechanisms.
section{Synthesis in an Ontologically Divided Field?}
In this section, I will develop the scope for synthesis regarding culture and economic incentives in a
political economic analysis of change.

I claim that we need two levels of synthesis, one on the conceptual level, one on the ... Show more

According to this, the concept of incentives as economic incentives should be softened if we want to
understand its link to culture.

There are various types of incentives, not only material also intangible and expressive incentives
(cite[195]{leighley1995attitudes}). This may lead to ambiguous responses if they interact with
subjective feelings and desires.
Hence, if the model includes non material incentives like esteem or expressing one s identity, the
relationship between culture and economic incentives becomes a much closer one to analyse.

Expressive incentives have a theoretical significance, which shows that the rational choice
understanding of the human nature is incomplete (cite[195 197]{leighley1995attitudes}).
Behaviour in groups or societies is more complex. Norms condition decision making in groups.
Nonetheless, in addition to these cultural factors, the personal motivations and incentives for a certain
behaviour within societies need to be considered (cite[12]{laffont2009theory}). My aim is that if we
synthesise rational choice and cultural perspectives, more phenomena become explainable without
completely abandoning rational choice assumptions.

For example, citeauthor{chong2000rational} (citeyear{chong2000rational}) models a rational choice
theory of agency, synthesised with cultural and psychological factors, material and non material
incentives

The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior
Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of
animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack, 1968),
wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa, 1990).
Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and
improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve
when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation risk is lowered in
social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall et al., 1986; Smith
and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more ... Show more content on

Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of
predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause
and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and
Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and
forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution
risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and
Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely
excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish
herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting
other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971).
Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was
based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own
selfish reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and
Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the

Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost,
unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting
into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway
s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader
in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could
cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers.
With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was
presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought
of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of
the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this
magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is
artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the
little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into
reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a
summation of multiple views could introduce a novice

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder and Parenting
Boisterous , energetic , and spontaneous were once adjectives used to describe the behaviour of
normal, healthy children [CITE]. These days, similar behaviours might be labeled problematic ,
hyperactive , and uncontrollable , often resulting in the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity
disorder (ADHD) and the prescription of a psychostimulant drug [CITE]. According to the DMS V,
ADHD is described as a combination of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). Due to the nature of the symptoms, ADHD can significantly hinder a
child s ability to succeed in a school setting, both academically and socially, which could have dire
implications for their future [CITE]. With almost 11% of children in the United States currently
diagnosed with the disorder, ADHD has been labeled an epidemic and this has lead to a significant
increase in the amount of research devoted to determining its cause and treatment [CITE]. The
increased attention has also attracted a great deal of controversy, with medical experts questioning the
safety of administering psychostimulant drugs to children. Although the evidence is often
contradictory, due to an increase in the documentation of the adverse side effects in children caused by
psychostimulant medication [CITE] as well as an increase in the evidence of nonpharmacological
treatments successfully reducing the symptoms of ADHD, many parents have become reluctant in
allowing their children to

Comparison of: Political History and Development of Nursing Education between China and Poland
Chinese modern nursing started its evolution in the 1888 when the first formal hospital was opened in
the town of Fuzhou, located in the Fujian province. Chinese medicine has been molded by numerous
western initiatives from the missionary in the 19 century. Particularly, nursing schools and missionary

influence was profound since it was one of the principal in the region doing major investments.
Individual teachers and nursing professional were the key players in the realization of the early
modernization of nursing in the country. Foundations from America set up medical facilities
facilitating the increase in the spread of nursing in the country. Chinese modern nursing edification
saw an early start compared to the other countries. Politically the government of China faced a period
of nursing halt after the abolishment of the practice. When the government that abolished the practice
collapsed in 1977, the practice came back to normal but left a gap of 30 years deficit in practice and
development of the nursing profession. Therefore, China s nursing practice was significantly
influenced by the political climate particularly the revolution. Ireland on the other hand was the last
developed country to incorporate nursing into the university. The Nightingale model of practice

How To Write A Leadership Observation Paper

Essay on Reflection on a Critical Incident
The reason for this essay is to reflect on a critical incident experience during my six week placement
as a student nurse on an orthopedic ward. To explore an event as a critical incident is a value
judgment, and the basis of that judgment is the significance attached to the meaning of the incident.
Critical incidents are created or produced by the way we look at a situation. Tripp (1993)

The Development Of Ancient Rome And The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was a powerful one. Each culture contributed something, Ancient Rome included.
In the beginning of the eighth century, Rome grew from the town alongside the Tiber River to a
frankly large and famous empire. In that large empire the people of ancient Rome took their education
very seriously. This large empire which they called rome also had a lot of different religions mostly
centered around Gods. The Roman Empire is definitely a fascinating one.
One important factor that both started and kept together the roman empire was its great geography. It
started as a small village near the Tiber River, it had great soil, a water source, and a defensive barrier
out of hills. The Roman Empire was a sustainable place to live. It grew fast concerning the wealthy
abundance of food, water, and protection. Because of the geographic area, the Roman Empire was
powerful. The Roman Empire was the most comprehensive political and social structure in 117 C.E. in
the western civilization. Because the empire was growing so great, it had to be split in two.
The Tiber River is a historic river in Europe, famous for the city of Rome that is located on its banks.

Painting Nails Research Paper
Painting nails is a great activity for any occasion. Occasions such as sleepovers, weddings, and even
birthday parties. It is an easy way to bring creativity and fun in a simple way. Accommodating the
simplicity of the process, the materials are inexpensive and durable for storage. Painting nails is easy
and enjoyable because all a person needs to do is gather few materials, prepare nails, and then paint
the nails. The first step to painting nails is to begin collecting the few materials needed. Start by
collecting cotton swabs and fingernail polish remover to clean the nails with. A non acetone based
fingernail polish remover will work best as an acetone based nail polish remover can be damaging to
nails. In addition to the cotton swabs and finger nail polish remover, other materials needed are nail
clippers, nail filer, and any colored nail polish of choice. The last item needed will be a flat surface,
preferable a table. After materials are collected it is time to begin the nail preparing process. To clean

Analysis Of The Film C.r. Y Directed By Jean Marc Vallee
The film C.R.A.Z.Y, directed by Jean Marc Vallée is about a man named Zac, recounting his
adventure of searching for his identity. Laurianne and Gervais give birth to 5 distinct guys, but Zac is
particularly special. He supposedly has a gift where he can cure burns, and heal people, but little do
they know; his special gift is that he is gay. The film C.R.A.Z.Y uses diegetic elements, selecting
specific events, and a four part structure to display narrative.
In the exposition, we see that this family is very religious because they are shown going to midnight
mass. The second aspect we learn that will be very significant is that he was premature and was
dropped, so it would explain why his family thinks he has a gift and why he has a scar on his head. We
also learn that his desires are ignored based on stereotypes and gender norms. In the second section of
the film, we get a sense that his character has changed. He s much more rebellious shown by the scene
where he puts his music even louder, after his dad lowered it, and when his father puts his cigarette
out, he blew smoke right back into his face. He also starts smoking pot and expresses that he no longer
believes in his religion. Although he begins to reject the Catholic Church, he secretly wants help from
God. In one particular scene, he is lying in bed and he puts his hands together and whispers, Please...
Anything but that This part is particularly important to the narrative because it shows how desperate

Kennedy Won The Democratic Convention
Democratic Presidential Nomination On April 30 1960, James Rowe, a Washington Lawyer, gave
$10,000 the campaign of Hubert H. Humphrey (Peters, P. 62). Rowe funded Humphrey s campaign in
hopes that Humphrey would defeat John F. Kennedy. Moreover, Rowe thought that this would lead to
Johnson s path of the presidency (Peters, P. 62) However; it was too late because Kennedy was
dominating the presidential nominations. Instead, Johnson was relying on his running mate Humphrey
to win the Democratic Convention. Ultimately, Johnson hoped that Humphrey would choose him to be
his vice president if Humphrey won the Democratic Convention. Johnson believed that he was an
excellent candidate because of his impressive record as Senate majority leader and his friendship with
powerful Democratic senators (Peters, P. 62). However, Johnson s strategy was a failure because
Humphrey lost to a landslide to Kennedy on May 9, 1960 (Bornet, P. 63) Ultimately, Kennedy nearly
received majority of the votes. Moreover, Kennedy won the Democratic Convention nomination with
806 votes to 409 (Bornet, P. 64). Kennedy also offered Johnson the vice presidential nomination in the
1960 nomination. Lastly, Kennedy offered Johnson the vice president nomination because Kennedy
knew that Johnson had a lot of connections in Washington that could lead to his win in the 1960
presidential election. For instance, Johnson used his personal connections to help Kennedy win the

Robert Frost s The Tuft Of Flowers And After Apple Picking
Intense and meaningful discoveries are often not anticipated, instead being sudden and unexpected.
The potential catalysts for discoveries are often unforeseen, resulting in unpredictable, confronting,
and challenging discoveries and ramifications. These outlooks are exemplified in Robert Frosts s
poetry works, The Tuft of Flowers , and After Apple Picking , and are also demonstrated in the
Challenger Disaster Speech delivered by Ronald Reagan to the USA in 1986. We see in both these
texts the potential complex ramifications brought forward by unexpected discovery upon an
individual. Robert Frost s works explore the unexpected nature of discovery and its catalysts, the
complex outcomes they bring forth, and the profound impact of discoveries upon a person. As seen in
the dramatic monologue The Tuft of Flowers , the persona is shown to be a farm worker, who goes to
a field after the mower to turn the grass. Together, the shared jobs come together to work as a larger
agricultural process, but the workers do their jobs individually. In the beginning of the poem, the
persona muses on the absence of the other worker, first Looking for him behind an isle of trees; then
Listening for his whetstone on the breeze . The persona seeks the company of the worker, but then
comes to the conclusion; And I must be, as he had been, alone . The hyphen within this line is used as
a caesura to highlight the loneliness of the worker. Due to this observation, the narrator states in a
resigned tone All as must be, I said within my heart, Whether they work together or apart . The use of
interior monologue, by the persona speaking within his heart highlights his isolation and brings forth
the first discovery of the poem, the worker is doing his job alone. The worker s search for company is
then mirrored in the appearance of a bewildered butterfly , seeking the flowers of yesterday. The
seemingly insignificant occurrence of a butterfly flying past the worker becomes important as it acts
as a catalyst for the key meaningful discovery of the poem. The butterfly searching for a flower to
land upon draws the attention of the persona to a tuft of flowers, purposefully untouched by the scythe
of the mower, in an act of

Analysis Of The Lost Boy By Dave Pelzer
The Lost Boy, written by Dave Pelzer is a heartwarming story of a young nine year old boy, David,

Bestseller and a #1 International Bestseller. He has written other books such as A Child Called It , My
Story, and A Man Named Dave, etc. This is my first story read by this author however, I will read

The main idea of this book is to show everyone what child abuse and what living in different foster
homes is like because most of the time people don t usually talk about this topic due to sensitivity and
this book helped everyone realize in a subtle way. I learned that this story isn t just imagined, but it
does indeed happen in real life. Children do live in households where the mother or father or whoever
treats them unfair and that is what opened up my eyes. One of the parts in the book that I enjoyed the
most is towards the end of the book for the reason that earlier in the story, when David first ran away
from home he saw a road sign that lead to a lake where him and his family would visit in the past and
right then and there he said he was going to live there when he grew up and in the end, his desire came
true and he lived in a cabin he made himself by the lake with his son, Stephen.
One of my favorite quotes of this story would be on page 303 which says, Years ago, I truly doubted
whether I d make it out alive. In my former life I had very little. Today, as I stand in my utopia, I have
what any person could wish for a life and the love of my son. Stephen and I are a family. The reason I
like this quote is because all his life, David was looking for a family and love and he finally found it.
In conclusion, I would most definitely recommend this book because it s very vulnerable and
emotional. Right from the beginning it may

Advice From Nel Gaiman Analysis

advice from Gaiman s address because as a beginning artist, it is the advice I have heard most from
those with experience. The people I look up to and whose work I admire, the people who have jobs in
the field they want or a large following of people who support their work all give the same advice. I

to build the tallest building. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of building such a
fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay higher rents in tall
buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and became even wealthier
(Mann 12). Consequently, the next step was to find a location for the building. The Waldorf Astoria
Hotel had an excellent location at a busy intersection on Fifth Avenue (Britton 14). This hotel used to

a different location and build a newer and better looking hotel. The new location was served by public

The Defense Of Socrates In Plato s The Apology
Socrates, the father of western philosophy, was an incredible apologist. While he never wrote any
books of his own, his teaching is filtered through the ages from his apprentices. Plato, one of his
students, wrote The Apology describing Socrates defense against the accusations that led him to be on
trial. The story begins with Socrates opening with an appeal to the jury. His defense is simply his skills
of rhetoric. Instead of bringing evidence, as seen in a normal court of law today, he decides to defend
himself with logic and reason. He shows cool composure in facing prosecution from a jury that was
biased against him. In the Apology, Socrates demonstrates his knowledge, courage, and fortitude when
facing his accusers and responding to their challenges but also shows his natural tendency to be blunt
and abrasive. Socrates was put on trial with a jury of his peers who were already biased against him.
He could have fled, but he chose to face them. This showed fortitude. He was charged with not
recognizing the gods, inventing deities, and corrupting the people of Athens. His first and most
important counter was the fact that the Oracle of Delphi called him the wisest man. He asked whether

Procedural Happy Valley Characters
Throughout the 20th century, hard boiled detective novels were very popular and the public quickly
devoured these male centered stories. They had a major focus on plot and the characters in various
novels often fit the same stereotypes, such as the cynical and isolated detective and the seductive
femme fatale. However, as the years have gone on, there has been a rise in female detectives that do
not fit the mold of the previous crime fiction pieces. Sally Wainright s BBC police procedural Happy

various problems she faces. She is not just a female version of these male detectives, but rather carves

Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and

How you phrase a question makes all the difference in the world. A query asked in two separate ways
can result in two completely different answers. amp;#8220;A question is the most important tool we
have ; states Postman. Take scientists for example. Their entire career is based on asking questions,
stating a hypothesis, and furthermore, answering them by conducting experiments.
Postman calls for the art of question asking to be infused with the current school curriculum, because
to often students do not ask questions. When a student arrives at school on the first day they often
notice many changes. Although welcome, these changes sometimes make a student wonder why he or
she was not asked if they would prefer them. This is the perfect example of how one phrases a
question wrong. Although a student might voice their opinion by saying, amp;#8220;I would like a
better school ; they don amp;#8217;t imply in which way they would like to achieve that.
Although it was a noteworthy concept, I found it to have many flaws. Postman believes that this
concept be put on high priority. He never examines how teachers are to teach this radical way of
thinking. There are other factors in a student amp;#8217;s high school career, and his ideas are not the
only ones that need to be considered.

However, due to circumstance it was clear that rebellion was the primary objective for the Tiandihui,
especially in the late 18th and 19th centuries. From 1787 1788 Tiandihui leader Lin Shuangwen led a
rebellion with Ming loyalists against the Qing government. During the time of this uprising the
Tiandihui led multiple rebellions that Ownby marks as the transformation of a local tradition into an

influence was strongly felt within the Qing government these rebellions, primarily Lin Shuangwen s,
were extremely costly for the Qing government. They also were forced to rethink and restructure the

op yo Although the concept of the mission and vision are Western inventions, the practice has been
universally embraced by companies worldwide. Providing a statement that expresses a company s
strategic intent, its philosophy, values, ethics or operational effectiveness has become standard global
management practice. Yet closer analysis of such statements reveals telling differences in content and
form across the world.
The mission statements of U.S. companies, for example, tend to be strong statements of identity and
reflect the need for consistency, performance, leadership, greatness and growth values that are shared
among cultures that score high on individualism and cultural masculinity, and low on longterm
orientation, like the United States does.
So, General Electric states: Being a reliable growth company requires consistent execution on
strategic principles that drive performance every quarter and every year.
Meanwhile, in collectivistic cultures, such as those found in Asia, social harmony is prized and
companies function more like families. What the company stands for is more often expressed as
Harmony with People, Society and the Environment, as in the case of Toyota. Or All people,
regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future, as in

Exaggeration of Despair in Sherman Alexie s Reservation Blues
Gloria Bird realizes that for generations Native Americans have had drinking problems, and she also
realizes that it is difficult for native writers to accurately represent our communities without exploiting
them. (G. Bird) However, Bird criticizes Alexie of embellishing or exaggerating the Native Americans
despair. Alexie cannot ignore the alcohol situation when describing Native American culture, but
Alexie does not need to make alcoholism a common trait amongst almost every Indian on the
reservation and other reservations.
Bird s statement concerning Alexie s embellishment of Native American despair due to alcoholism is
an accurate interpretation of Reservation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chess asked Thomas if his mother drink when she was alive, and Thomas responded with She did. Bu
she quit. She was sober when she died. (p.118) Thomas goes on to say that she quit because of an
incident during a New Year s Eve party. Dad got real drunk, kicked everybody out, and then took all
the furniture out on the front lawn, and burned it. (p.118)
Alexie does not just mention that Samuel is a drunk; he goes further to say that Samuel was an
extremely talented basketball player, but alcohol caused Samuel to throw his basketball future away.
Even when Samuel was a young man he was drinking, when the tribal cop, Wilson, asked Samuel and
Lester, You two been drinking? (p.102) Lester responds with I ve been drinking since I was
five...Kindergarten is hard on a man. (p.102) Lester is another secondary character that is introduced
who happens to be a drunk, for that is how he got his name Lester FallsApart. Lester FallsApart, the
most accomplished drunk on the Spokane Reservation, (p.151) However, It could be worse for
Thomas, because both Victor s and Junior s fathers were not just drunks but were also dead.
In Reservation Blues, not much information is given about Victor s parents; there are only references
to the death of Victor s father in Arizona and the simple fact that his mother is dead. The reason his
father died in Arizona is that he could not bear any longer to live on the Spokane Reservation after
what he did. One night he got drunk and

A Raisin In The Sun A Success
A Raisin in the Sun was first produced in 1959 and brings forth many of the issues which were to
divide American culture during the 1960s. Lorraine Hansberry, the writer, was an unknown figure who
achieved her success when her play became a Broadway hit. Not only were successful young black
women writers were rare at the time, but they were also virtually unheard of. Despite the unpopularity
of colored women writers, the success of A Raisin in the Sun was stunning. Hansberry s ability to
articulate words make her successful and well known across the world. Having the mind and
determination to become successful isn t an easy task. Success isn t considered a gift, it should be a
hard task to achieve and it matters how it is accomplished. Success

Causes Of Mass Hysteria In The Salem Witch Trials
What I think that brewed up mass hysteria in Salem, Mass. is religion, superstition of voodoo, crystal
balls, and fortune telling, and things like that, and one surprising factor that historians think. The bread
that was eaten in Salem was contaminated with a fungus that contributed to the Salem witch trials.
Puritans were extremely religious there wasn t one prayer that they didn t know they were awfully
superstitious of voodoo and fortune telling the puritans always that was somehow tied to Satan and
Satanism and should be never performed otherwise you would be acquainted with satan and such.
Some people think it was a slave named Tituba because she was caught doing things like, reading
crystal balls ,and telling fortunes. For instance when she performed these things she was also with
three little girls doing those activities, and people thought that it was voodoo, her owner Samuel Parris
was beating her forcing to confess herself as a witch or else she would continue to be beaten and then
hanged, and she did as she was told and confessed as being a witch and she was thrown in jail after
that they started claiming that they saw the devil and spirits and were claiming to be attacked by the
specters of the accused witches , also one of these little girls was actually sick she goes into shock and
hysteria whenever those girls screamed or went crazy people were actually dumb enough to believe
them after they made one accusation they couldn t stop otherwise if they were

The Spiritual Warfare Movement
The Spiritual warfare Movement is a movement that intensely focuses on the movements of the Holy
Spirit in evangelistic and spiritual warfare. Pentecostal in nature, their focus is not on the physical war
which is seen, but the spiritual war, which is unseen. It is written, For our struggle is not against flesh
and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (NIV, Ephesians 6:12). Dan Jorgenson
writes, Third wave approaches draw on a series of theological and practical innovations prominently
associated with evangelists such as C. Peer Wagner, John Wimber, Benny Hinn, George Otis, and John
Dawson). Wagner coined the term Third Wave as a shorthand designation for a Spirit based movement
that succeeded earlier Pentecostal forms (Wagner 1988:15). A great deal of this movement began in
the 1980 s and has proliferated since this time. Before it were two other Pentecostal and Charismatic
waves. While many of this movements aficionados seek to separate their persons from the Pentecostal
and Charismatic movements to appear more balanced in nature, having academic backing John
MacArthur writes, If you look very closely at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Part V In the midst of service, one can often be tossed about by temptations, fear, guilt, doubt and
insecurity amongst other emotions. Satan will seek to find areas that express needs in one s life and
will utilize these to maneuver the believer to sinful action outside of God s will. One then questions
how to cope with these attacks. Charles Stanley writes, The greater question is not What can we do to
avoid attacks from the enemy? but How are we to respond to such attacks when they come? Five
suggestions for believers experiencing spiritual warfare amidst evangelistic work

The Works Of Antonio Vivaldi
Throughout history, there have been many periods of time where music rose and fell in favor of the
masses. Music was part of life during the old age in many areas such as religious services or
entertainment among the elites. During the late 17th century which was known as the Baroque period,
many famous composers such as Johann Pachelbel, George Frideric Handel, and Johann Sebastian
Bach, Alessandro Scarlatti, Henry Purcell, and many others that were successful in adapting to the
change of new music style. Among these famous composers, Antonio Vivaldi stood out for his unique
style of music that innovated and revolutionized the Baroque period. Antonio Vivaldi was born on
March 4, 1678, in Venice, Italy. His father, Giovanni Battista, was the son of a tailor. He passed away
on July 28, 1741 in Vienna. His father, Giovanni Battista, was born in 1655 in Brescia and moved to
Venice in 1666. Giovani married Camilla Calicchio in 1676. Together they had nine children which
Vivaldi was the oldest. Giovanni was a professional violinist who worked full time at St. Marks
(Green). Due to his father s work and influence to music, Vivaldi got involved as part of his life.
Vivaldi was ordained as a priest though at an early age, then he chose to follow his passion for music
(Antonio Vivaldi). Though he did not live for very long, he was well known for many fantastic work
and composers looked up to him. Early in his life, Vivaldi learned how to play violin from his father.

The Significance of Jane Eyre s Relationship With Helen Burns
The Significance of Jane Eyre s Relationship With Helen Burns
Jane Eyre is a classical novel written in 1947 by Charlotte Bronte, who at the time was also known as
Currer Bell . This timeless piece is based on the life of an orphaned girl named Jane Eyre who begins
her life under the care of an Aunt, Mrs. Reed. Both Jane s parents have died within only a year of her
birth leaving Mrs. Reed with the responsibility of Jane s well being. However, Mrs. Reeds treatment
towards Jane is purely absurd and only provides the child with the bare necessities of life, such as
food, clothes and shelter.
Her Aunt as well as her only cousins resent Jane. She is an outcast, but nevertheless at only the age of

She dies of consumption and Jane is left alone with Helen dead in her arms.
The importance of friendship is considered a significant element throughout this noel. Soon after Jane
Eyre joined Lowood, she meets Helen Burns, She was the only person who was consistently nice to
Jane. Ever since the first night when Helen provided Jane with food, Jane realized that Helen was a
kind hearted and noble person and decided therefore that Helen was her first and best friend.
In contrast to Helen s personality, Jane has the total opposite approach to life. She is short tempered
and will say what she thinks despite the circumstances. She is sincere, straightforward and does not
fear to articulate her point of view however fallacious it may be.
One factor of Jane Eye which interests the reader is the relationship between Jane, her Aunt and her
cousins, compared to Jane s relationship with Helen. Despite the blood relation between Jane and her
aunt and cousins, they treat Jane with sincere disrespect and animosity.
Then Mrs. Reed subjoined: Take her away to the red room, and lock her in there . Four hands were
immediately laid upon me, and I was borne upstairs .
Jane s Aunt is a selfish woman and despite knowing the fact that Jane has no other relative, she still
lacks any sympathetic feeling towards her. Jane

Emily Dickinson Death Be Not Proud
The poems Death, be not proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for death , and I heard a fly
buzz when I died both written by Emily Dickinson are three timeless poems that present the theme of
death, in a very abnormal manner. In Death, be not proud John Donne approaches death by
addressing, personifying, and belittling death. Emily Dickinson s Because I could not stop for death
reflects Dickinson s metaphysical ideas on death to ease and persuade people to accept it. I heard a fly
buzz when I died also written by Emily Dickinson is an unsettling poem written from the perspective
of someone dying. All these poems uniquely examine death by lecturing it, accepting it, and imagining
it.

This poem is about the actual moment of death, something that most people do not want to think
about. The author bravely and brilliantly imagined her own death, which was unheard of in those
times. In the poem, Dickinson has signed her will, said goodbye to her loved ones, and then as she
heaves her last breaths, she becomes preoccupied by a fly trying to escape out of the room. I willed
my Keepsakes Signed away... and then it was There interposed a Fly (Dickinson) Some people think
this poem has a humorous tone because of the fly, but numerous people think this poem was not meant
to be humorous, but instead sad and dark. Many believe the fly represents the devil; moreover, the
poem ends with her dying and darkness. In this poem Dickinson does not give the readers the sense
that she goes to heaven when she imagined dying.
All of these noteworthy poems depict death in their own captivating way. In Death, be not proud the
author skillfully used personification and many other literary devices to illustrate death. I could not
stop for death also limns and personifies death differently than Death, be not proud . Arrogant of
striking fear into humans, is how Donne portrays and talks to death in Death, be not proud , while in I
could not stop for death Dickinson portrays death as a polite gentleman. I heard a fly buzz when I died

Schindler s List Analysis
Schindlers list so we just watched the schindlers list. The movie in all was great. At the beginning, I
wasnt sure if I would get into it. I was wrong. I didnt really know what to think about Oscar, I believe
he was way different at the beginning of the movie. Defenitly had a different perspective of him of
first, he only really focused on himself and getting money. A bit selfish. I think deep down he was a
good man at heart. He defenitly dealed with things a lot better than others did. The other man was
horrible he had no empathy what so ever for other people. Not even children. Sometimes there was no
reason behind killing innocent people, he did it simply because he felt like it. There was a time when
schindler actually tried to prevent him from killing people without thinking. The bad guy said that
killing meant he had power, but schindler said that having the ability too kill and not doing so but
forgive is real power. The bad guy didnt really get it at first and just kind of laughed at him. The next
day I think he kind of understood it better, and actually even showed ... Show more content on

On the way to schindlers camp, the men were getting water by breaking off icecles and melting them
into pots that they had with them. When the men arrived, schindler said that the women werent there
yet but should arrive at any moment. Little did he know that the cart with all the women got sent to the
wrong camp. When the women first got there you can tell they were all very confused. They tried
telling the soldiers but they didnt listen. All the women were forced to strip there close off and go into
these enclosed rooms. They all were terrified at first, which is understandable. Because of the fact that
in similar chambers they would gas them and kill them. To there surprise, it was actually just a
shower. They were so relieved and happy. Although before the showers I forgot to mention that all the
women got there hair chopped

Political Economy Of America
INTRODUCTION
The political economy of the United States of America is at a crossroads. Mired in legislative gridlock
due to the polarization of political parties, struggling to fully recover from the global recession
brought on by the collapse of the financial industry, and lagging in comparison to some of our peers in
respect to education standards and social welfare policies, many have begun to predict the decline of
America and have declared the model of classical liberal capitalism defunct.
In previous centuries, our loosely structured economic system, based upon the principles derived from
free market capitalism and individual civil liberties, provided the American economy the flexibility to
shift, evolve, and innovate as markets, individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
government belies its claims of wanting to foster economic growth by maintaining the largest
corporate tax among developed economies. This high corporate tax structure has precipitated the flow
of large corporations to tax havens around the world the effect of which has caused the U.S. to miss
out on valuable tax revenue while small and medium sized domestic businesses must struggle to foot
the bill themselves. The government would like to put the impetus on American corporations to return
their tax headquarters to the United States, but why would they when they can legally obtain a lower
rate elsewhere? There needs to be a compromise between business and government in America that
creates a lower, competitive corporate tax structure while still allowing government to generate
revenue that can be spent on developing effective social welfare

Essay On African American Heritage Month
Throughout history, just about every group of people have been oppressed in some way. From African
Americans, to Hispanics, to judgement based on religion or gender, it is taught all of the time. Most
popular are events such as the slavery in early America and the Holocaust. But one group that was also
oppressed here in our own country were the Native Americans; arguably, they still are. However, they
are not mentioned nearly as much as the others. There is no day for a leader of Native American civil
rights as there is for Martin Luther King Jr.; Native American Heritage Month does exist, in
November, but it gets much less attention in comparison to the African American History Month in
February. This group has faced just as much continuing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, these things took place almost one hundred years ago. Even still, though, there are examples
of mistreatment. Schools and even professional teams continue to use stereotypical mascots in their
teams. In the case Lyng v. Northwest Indian Cemetery Protection Association, the Supreme Court
allowed a Forest Service road to be built through an area sacred to several tribes. Many communities
on Indian reservations still have high poverty and infant mortality rates, along with low high school
competition rates. There was also a continual battle to be able to use peyote, a type of cactus that can
be used as a hallucinogenic drug, which is important in many Native American religious rituals. As of
1994, it is legal, but it has been a back and forth battle it was banned in 1991, then in 1993 President
Clinton attempted to legalize it again but the Supreme Court shot it down, and finally, a year later, it
was legalized once again for celebrations (Native

  • 2. Hercules of the Skies Essay There were many important people, aircraft, and developments, which greatly contributed to aviation development, which ultimately impacted the World. Out of many aviation developments, I will write about an aircraft I take pleasure in seeing and hearing, the C 130 Hercules. I consider this aircraft has made a significant impact in the aviation industry, most in the dependability of the airframe and its illustrious design. Today, this aircraft is used for many organizations such as Military Ops, firefighting, and search and rescue. The military is the primary user of this aircraft, for it uses it for many tactical operations. But what makes this aircraft so grand? The ability to land on short runways and the ability to fly slow with load, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is modernized with computer systems instead of steam gauges. What I think makes the C 130 in general momentous, is the number of international countries that are using this airframe. Over 60 countries are using this aircraft and it is no surprise since it has been in operation since the 50 s! ( Air Force Technology (2011, May 5)). A big contribution to this outstanding airframe has to be given to the developers, the company Lockheed or Lockheed Martin. An astonishing fact is that the same company has made this aircraft for over 50 years; this just shows that Lockheed knows how to design and manufacture lasting aircraft to persevere with modern technology. I would say that the years this aircraft has been in service is enough in itself to say how it impacted the aviation industry, giving it new means of how to create lasting aircraft for the high demand for its operations. A few decades ago, the military needed an upgrade on its cargo and troop carrying capabilities. In the 1950 s, the less modern World War II cargo aircraft were the C 190, C 47, and C 46 s. These did not meet the requirements for a continuously modernizing U.S. Military. (Simpson, M. (2011, October 19)). Therefore, in 1951, the U.S. Air Force put out a General Operating Requirement for a new airframe that will meet specifications in the category s of how many passengers or paratroopers it will hold, as well as size ... • 3. A Study On The Mammalian Diving Reflex Introduction: The mammalian diving reflex represents a primary physiological mechanism to maximize underwater excursions in air breathing animals. Traditionally, the oxygen conserving reflex consists of three metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments: (1) notable bradycardia; (2) selective peripheral vasoconstriction; and (3) increased blood flow to the viscera (Kawakami et al., 1967). Previous studies have observed such a response in birds and mammals, generalizing the considerable reduction of heart rate, or diving bradycardia, as indicative of the response (Butler, 1982). The evolutionary success of these diving animals relies partly on the functional significance of reducing metabolic demands to prologue underwater survival. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, Gooden (1994) describes apnea as an essential element to the diving reflex; it ensures not only the prevention of water inhalation, but also acts as an energy saving device through decreasing nerve stimulation to the diaphragm and intercostals. Therefore, heart rate will be monitored under both experimental conditions and compared to the resting rate and apneic resting rate. As a profound autonomic phenomenon, further establishment of the diving reflex in humans will shed light on the preservation of the reflex and its role in the survival during near drowning experiences. Only by examining the physiological response in humans can we appreciate the evolutionary significance of this innate neural circuitry. Methods: An untrained 22 year old male human subject was chosen. A PT 104 pulse plethysmograph was wrapped around his dominant (right) index finger. Connected through a IXTA data acquisition unit, heart rate was monitored on LabScribe. The recordings were measured with ten seconds of leeway at the beginning and end to allow baseline pulse recovery. Digital marks labeled the time interval of the described action. First the subject s heart rate was measured during a resting phase for twenty seconds. He was encouraged to relax and remain inactive in order to confirm an accurate baseline reading. For the apneic condition, the subject repeated this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare And Contrast Arm Wrestling With My Father And... In their recent work, Brad Manning and Sarah Vowell have written about more than one way to have a close, but different relationship with their fathers. There is has always been a belief that to get along with someone you would have normal conversations, enjoy each other s company, or share a common interest. In the story they love their father as any other child would, but their ways of communication are not the same and are different from a common father child relationship. Both authors use rhetorical devices as a framework for differentiating their relationships with their fathers by characterizing them. In both stories Arm Wrestling with My Father, and Shooting Dad, the authors use different rhetorical strategies that allow them to exemplify their actual feelings of how they relate to their father s. They also employ similar rhetorical devices yet are used differently. Ours had always been a physical relationship, I suppose, one determined by athleticism and strength. Manning emphasizes how his relationship with his father is very physical and nonverbal. Manning describes the differences in perception of his father s arms, symbolizing the change in their relationship that was about to take place. Whereas when Vowell states, if you were passing by the house where I grew up during my teenage years and it happened to be before Election Day, you wouldn t have needed to come inside to see that it was house divided, Vowell looks back on her childhood to explain that ... • 6. Serial Killer Nature Vs Nurture Serial Killers: Nature vs. Nurture Crime over the years has become a very popular subject. There are countless movies, shows, books and documentaries about such events. Individuals are very entertained for one reason or another by these types of shows. There have been many discussions, debates and research studies done particularly pertaining to the question What causes someone to become a serial killer? Psychologists, criminologists and scientists agree that the Nature nurture debate is the most essential phenomenon in psychology. Researchers have conducted a lot of research to be able to answer the question What causes a person to commit a murder? . The popular and logical hypothesis is that criminal behavior is more complicated than it had been thought and they say that a person s genetic makeup creates criminal behavior (It is called nature.) While others suggest that criminal behavior is solely related with a person s upbringing and life experience (It is called nurture.) (Newton 2006). Both opinions of this subject are on polar opposite sides. While one side states that if0 someone has a rough childhood and are faced with severe adversity they have a greater chance of becoming a serial killer. An example would be Edmund Kemper. The opposing side states that a person is born with a certain set of genes that could turn them into a serial killer. A prime example would be Ted Bundy or Charles Manson. This is a highly diverse debate among scientists and criminologists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This report will examine the structure of each program, and their major benefits and drawbacks. The first training program is called periodization. This program divides the training process into specific phases or mesocycles, over a certain amount of time, focusing the manipulation of training variables such as loads, sets, and repetitions, in order to maximize training adaptations. Web Portal Design Web portals in the past were seen primarily as gateways as was stated earlier, thereby limiting the creative control administrators could have over the design of the web site. Due to the shift in functionality of web portals however, as well as the added value of UCC, it has become increasingly challenging to design web sites where users can find exactly what they are looking for (Fang, et al, 2004). Prominent gaming portals IGN (Fox Media, 1996), and Gamespot (Deemer, et al, 1996), display the attributes of good web design, limiting the amount of useless hyperlinks, and utilises taxonomy for articles to make them easier for users to access the information they need. Gamespot also allows for a degree of personalisation within the site allowing users to select which background and forum theme they wish to use, whose selection will be stored with the user account information, and this personalisation can help the users feel connected to the portal, thereby ensuring their continued presence (Bellas, et al, 2004). All the computers plugged in the same outlet, or into the same switch or router are affected by the power surges. The other common culprit of internal network card failure is malware. Given the crucial role that NIC cards play in connecting computers to networks, network cards are a major target for malware. If malware can get access to the network interface controller, then the hacker can gain access to all of the networking data that passes through the computer. Technically speaking, malware does not directly damage the physical hardware of network cards, so there is no reason to replace the NIC hardware. What a malware does is hurt the software (the device driver) that controls the network card, and that can effectively render the network card faulty. If we suppose that the card is hypothetical culprit then, we will take some action to confirm the hypothesis. Physical test: we check the Ethernet cable (cable plugged into the card and the outlet on the wall), switch and router. Result of the test: Cable, switch and router are all working well. • 15. Relationship Between Culture And Economic Incentives In the following, I will argue that in order to understand change we need a concrete understanding of the relationship between culture and economic incentives, not a set primacy of one over the other. Change should ideally be explained by a synthesis in which both culture and economic incentives are taken into account. It is not only about stating that there is a relationship but also about analysing how that relationship works in terms of mechanisms. section{Synthesis in an Ontologically Divided Field?} In this section, I will develop the scope for synthesis regarding culture and economic incentives in a political economic analysis of change. I claim that we need two levels of synthesis, one on the conceptual level, one on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to this, the concept of incentives as economic incentives should be softened if we want to understand its link to culture. There are various types of incentives, not only material also intangible and expressive incentives (cite[195]{leighley1995attitudes}). This may lead to ambiguous responses if they interact with subjective feelings and desires. Hence, if the model includes non material incentives like esteem or expressing one s identity, the relationship between culture and economic incentives becomes a much closer one to analyse. Expressive incentives have a theoretical significance, which shows that the rational choice understanding of the human nature is incomplete (cite[195 197]{leighley1995attitudes}). Behaviour in groups or societies is more complex. Norms condition decision making in groups. Nonetheless, in addition to these cultural factors, the personal motivations and incentives for a certain behaviour within societies need to be considered (cite[12]{laffont2009theory}). My aim is that if we synthesise rational choice and cultural perspectives, more phenomena become explainable without completely abandoning rational choice assumptions. For example, citeauthor{chong2000rational} (citeyear{chong2000rational}) models a rational choice theory of agency, synthesised with cultural and psychological factors, material and non material incentives ... • 16. The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack, 1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa, 1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Bad Hooks Catch No Fish Bad Hooks Catch No Fish A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost, unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers. With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of the leading thought. These days, similar behaviours might be labeled problematic , hyperactive , and uncontrollable , often resulting in the diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and the prescription of a psychostimulant drug [CITE]. According to the DMS V, ADHD is described as a combination of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Due to the nature of the symptoms, ADHD can significantly hinder a child s ability to succeed in a school setting, both academically and socially, which could have dire implications for their future [CITE]. With almost 11% of children in the United States currently diagnosed with the disorder, ADHD has been labeled an epidemic and this has lead to a significant increase in the amount of research devoted to determining its cause and treatment [CITE]. The increased attention has also attracted a great deal of controversy, with medical experts questioning the safety of administering psychostimulant drugs to children. Although the evidence is often contradictory, due to an increase in the documentation of the adverse side effects in children caused by psychostimulant medication [CITE] as well as an increase in the evidence of nonpharmacological treatments successfully reducing the symptoms of ADHD, many parents have become reluctant in allowing their children to ... • 29. Robert Frost s The Tuft Of Flowers And After Apple Picking Intense and meaningful discoveries are often not anticipated, instead being sudden and unexpected. The potential catalysts for discoveries are often unforeseen, resulting in unpredictable, confronting, and challenging discoveries and ramifications. These outlooks are exemplified in Robert Frosts s poetry works, The Tuft of Flowers , and After Apple Picking , and are also demonstrated in the Challenger Disaster Speech delivered by Ronald Reagan to the USA in 1986. We see in both these texts the potential complex ramifications brought forward by unexpected discovery upon an individual. Robert Frost s works explore the unexpected nature of discovery and its catalysts, the complex outcomes they bring forth, and the profound impact of discoveries upon a person. As seen in the dramatic monologue The Tuft of Flowers , the persona is shown to be a farm worker, who goes to a field after the mower to turn the grass. Together, the shared jobs come together to work as a larger agricultural process, but the workers do their jobs individually. In the beginning of the poem, the persona muses on the absence of the other worker, first Looking for him behind an isle of trees; then Listening for his whetstone on the breeze . The persona seeks the company of the worker, but then comes to the conclusion; And I must be, as he had been, alone . The hyphen within this line is used as a caesura to highlight the loneliness of the worker. Due to this observation, the narrator states in a resigned tone All as must be, I said within my heart, Whether they work together or apart . The use of interior monologue, by the persona speaking within his heart highlights his isolation and brings forth the first discovery of the poem, the worker is doing his job alone. The worker s search for company is then mirrored in the appearance of a bewildered butterfly , seeking the flowers of yesterday. The seemingly insignificant occurrence of a butterfly flying past the worker becomes important as it acts as a catalyst for the key meaningful discovery of the poem. The butterfly searching for a flower to land upon draws the attention of the persona to a tuft of flowers, purposefully untouched by the scythe of the mower, in an act of ... Neil Postman Essay Throughout the span of the past few weeks I have traversed the globe, visiting several countries and regions, only to realize that although new methods develop, language as a way of expressing ones self has remained the most effective. Despite this fact, language still has its pitfalls. Neil Postman, in his essay amp;#8220;Defending Against the Indefensible, ; outlines seven concepts that can be used to aid a student in better understanding the language as a means of communication. A query asked in two separate ways can result in two completely different answers. amp;#8220;A question is the most important tool we have ; states Postman. Take scientists for example. Their entire career is based on asking questions, stating a hypothesis, and furthermore, answering them by conducting experiments. Postman calls for the art of question asking to be infused with the current school curriculum, because to often students do not ask questions. When a student arrives at school on the first day they often notice many changes. Although welcome, these changes sometimes make a student wonder why he or she was not asked if they would prefer them. This is the perfect example of how one phrases a question wrong. Although a student might voice their opinion by saying, amp;#8220;I would like a better school ; they don amp;#8217;t imply in which way they would like to achieve that. Although it was a noteworthy concept, I found it to have many flaws. Postman believes that this concept be put on high priority. He never examines how teachers are to teach this radical way of thinking. There are other factors in a student amp;#8217;s high school career, and his ideas are not the only ones that need to be considered. Yet again I find that Postman amp;#8217;s third concept is ...
