Brain Waves Lab
Background Majority of animal s posses an organ that function as a center for coordination for
multiple activities that include, but are not limited too, intellect, sensation, and neural activity. The
brain is composed of billions of neurons that, which is a type of cells that has a main function to
transmit information from one cell to another. The information that is transferred helps perform
different actions, display different emotions, and think different thoughts. The process of transferring
different information is initiated by electrical activity and is present during the activities, and the
electrical actives can be known as brain waves. There are several different types of brain waves, which

Also the brain activity will be highest for the visual portion of the experiment when the image being
viewed has the most going on in it because it will require more work from the brain to realize what
eyes are looking at. Lastly, for the electrical stimuli portion the brain activity will be highest for the
trial that has the electrical stimuli being applied to the most sensitive spot, of the spots being tested,
because more pain receptors will be activated meaning more neurons in the brain will respond.

Why Do You Think Downward Communication Is much more...
Organizational communication is a sustainable system of people working together to achieve a
common goal, through division levels of stratification according to rank and duty (Everet M. Rogers).
Communication is the means whereby organizations coordinate management of material resources and
human resources through formal structural pattern of the duties and authority (Robert
Bonnington).Communication organizations are sending and receiving various messages in the cluster
formal organization or informally from an organization (Wiryanto, 2005). In organization, the
communication has provided four distinct directions, downward, upward, horizontal and diagonal.

So it helps in establishing official discipline in the organization. The third of advantages is an
increasing efficiency. Downward communication provides necessary guidance, orders, instructions
and explanations of various complex issues to the subordinates that ultimately increase the efficiency
of the employees. The fourth of advantages is an informing organizational plans and procedures. In an
organization, the top level executives develop the plans, policies, strategies, procedures etc. downward
communication plays a significant role in communicating those plans, policies, strategies and
procedures to the lower levels of the organization. The fifth of advantages is an explaining the
complex issues. Sometimes subordinates need explanation of organizational policies and procedures.
In such situations, managers rely on downward communication to provide necessary explanations and
analysis.
The sixth of advantages is an Issuing orders and instructions. Downward communication is the only
means to circulate various orders, instructions, guidance and advices to the subordinates. Without
downward communication, organization is like a boat without boatman. The seventh of advantages are
an avoiding by passing of hierarchy. Downward communication takes place by following the
established chain of command of the organization. Thus, it reduces the chance of sending message to
someone through by passing the immediate subordinate.

Short Summary In Maya Angelou s Woman Work
What are women truly capable of? In Maya Angelou poem entitled Woman Work in the beginning she
describes what a woman does for either her family, husband and jeopardizing her own happiness.
Even though, throughout the poem the tone changes. It tends to have gotten a lot darker. She then
describes of how unappreciative she feels and how she wants to rest. Maybe she wanted a break from
doing the things she does every day. In the end, even throughout history of women being stereotypical
of just doing things of only being able to cook and clean for their families... what are the next steps for
them? What more can a woman bring to the table? if any...
Generations after generations, it has always been the same when it comes to a traditional marriage. As
we know, in the early centuries, marriages were set in stone. The man of the household was the with
power. He was the only one with ability to work. Whereas the wife stayed home to take care of the
children and do daily chores around the house. As the article, Being a Housewife in the 21st Century
states, Being a housewife in the 21st century puts you in a controversial position. Many people believe
women who are housewives are nurturing their families, making homes and building up society.
Others are convinced housewives are old fashioned and outdated, responsible for thwarting the efforts
of women who work outside the home and insulting the memory of those who worked so hard to
obtain equal rights for women.
(Harris) This also reminded me when Angelou stated in her poem Woman s Work,
I ve got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed. (Angelou)
Imagine how crazy it is to think how women does just exactly what Harris and Angelou stated. The
article and poem insists woman are only capable of only being a housewife. In today s society, being a
housewife could be a downfall. Another piece from the article, Being a Housewife in the 21st Century
states, The decision to become a housewife or stay at home mom can have far reaching financial
complications in the 21st century. Having only one income can mean having to tighten your belt and

Effective Communication And Interpersonal Communication
Within this piece of writing I am going to go explain how effective communication and interpersonal
interaction is crucial within health and social care, I will also discuss theories of communication and
how they are effective within the health and social sector.
Communication
What is communication? Communication Is when two or more people exchange or express
information, thoughts, feelings etc. by using sounds, signs, or behaviors.
Why do people communicate?
People communicate to find out how people are feeling, so if there are any problems they can help
them out and take them to the doctors if needed, in some cases people communication just to have a
catch up with a friend. A good example of this within health and social would be if a person that spoke
a different language needed to go to the toilet you would have to communicate by using the right
translation book to understand what they are saying. There are many different types to communicate
which are; one to one, formal, and informal, between colleagues, with other professionals, between
professionals and service users, multi agency, multi professional working I am now going to go into
some detail about these different types to communicate to each other within a social workers industry,
I will be giving examples throughout.
Interpersonal
What is Interpersonal communication?
Interpersonal communication is skills and techniques that people use in order to communicate and
maintain positive relationships, a good

The Gang Member Of The Eight Tray Criminal Hoover Essay
Frank Gottie is one of the most well known gang member of The Eight Tray Criminal Hoover in
Memphis. Gottie believes that gangs are becoming to spin out of control, that it needs to be a solution
to gang activity. On July 10, 2016 Gottie says I ain t never seen heaven before, but it was like a
Memphis heaven everybody was on one accord , if the gangs could be on the same page for Black
Lives Matter (Jones and Fretland, 2016) . Why can t it happen for the youth? Ar tavius Brown was 18
years old and joined a gang called the Pirus the Blood Alliance. Brown joined gang activity in South
Memphis because he saw people with the cars, with the money (Goggans, 2014). Brown was put with
the ramifications of having a gun shoot out at Central High school, but the judge saw something within
Brown and gave him a second chance.
Why are these stories relevant? These stories are relevant to the gang problem because if a gang
member, Frank Gottie, sees that the gang problem in Memphis has to stop then it should be addressed.
The community should want a change so the generation in Memphis doesn t fall into the typical
stereotypes, they should want more for the future youth to come. Everyone(the youth) won t have that
second chance like the Memphian Ar tavius Brown, all the youth won t have that judge that will see
the better side of the situation. The community needs to get more involved with the youth, their kids,
and family; so the gang problem won t become worse than it is becoming.

Essay on Dangers of the War on Terrorism
Dangers of the War on Terrorism
The President of the United State has used the phrases War on Poverty , War on Drugs , War on
Illiteracy , and the War on Hunger, when describing the problems Americans are facing. The term war
is used metaphorically to signify our willingness to devote vast resources, and immense amounts of
time to a specified problem. No one seems to have a problem with these phrases as they do not signify
our determination to die for the cause.
The Civil War, World War II, and even the Vietnam War or Conflict designates our determination to
give the lives of soldiers and spill the blood of the enemy to maintain our freedom. These real wars are
fought under different set of rules, governing everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated. Even
this definition expands when the President continues to include every nation in every region, is either
with us or against us. From this day forward, any nation that continue to harbor or support terrorism
will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. The president also defines our participation
in the war by committing every resource at out command every means of diplomacy, every tool of
intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary
weapon of war to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network. The Presidents speech
drew several ovations and was enthusiastically received, but what does it really mean.
The portion of the War visible to U.S. citizens and the world has moved from the rural hills of
Afghanistan to portions of Pakistan, and Iraq. The world now seems posed to see who will be
identified as the next terror target. Korea, Iran, Syria, and Pakistan all have been suggested. Even if we
systematically work our way through the more obvious targets, committing our efforts in each
location, it won t stop there. Every country that

Possible Drought In California
Can you imagine living in a nauseating, vile, and disgusting manner? Well Californians can. Currently,
the state of California is in the midst of a severe drought. This drought is one of the worst droughts in
the state s recorded history. Due to this drought, more than a thousand of California s residents have
lost their water. The drought sparks a conflict for the residents. People can not bathe, use their toilets,
wash their dishes, or do anything with water. Because of the overuse of groundwater, a law is being
established in the California State Legislature that would maintain aquifer, the pumping of
groundwater, for the first time in history. In other words, residents would not be able to pump water

If California regulates aquifer, farmers are going to be looking at buying less pickups, employing less
people, and buying less tractors (Source 1). We are tied to the groundwater 100 percent, a farmer said,
so ultimately it will have an effect on consumer prices. There s just no getting around that (Source 1).
The crippling drought is expected to cost the state $2.2 billion in 2014 and put more than 17,000 farm
workers out of a job, according to a July study partly funded by the state s department of food and
agriculture (Source 2). If aquifer is regulated, the economy is going to crash, prices of food will go up,
if prices of food go up, prices of everything will go up, farmers will go out of business, people who
work for farmers will lose their jobs, people who sell farmers equipment won t sell enough hardware

farmers in California and if aquifer is regulated, â…“ of the world will not have enough food and there
might be a possibility of hunger. Californians aren t realizing this. City folks just don t understand that

Why Is It Better To Be A Big Fish In A Small Pond
Big Fish in a Small Pond
When asked Is it better to be a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond? my mind

fish in a big pond.

Essay Differring Religions In Todays
Differring Religions
Each religious group possesses its own individual world view. Two groups, which vary a great deal
when reflecting upon their world views are the Native Americans and the Puritans. While one group
holds one set of standards and beliefs to be true, the other group abides by a completely opposite set of
ideas. The Native American religion functions using its own world view. Unlike in Western religions,
the Native American religion does not have certain places in which they need to be more religious
than others do. In the Native American religion there is no notion of essential monotheism. There is no
one true god in their religion; therefore they are free to have open ended worship. The Native

This entire reading explains why the French men have such a great hatred of the Native Americans,
however they will continue to try to convert the Native American people to Christian and Catholic
belief. Many of the world views of the Native American religion are quite different from those of the
Puritans. The Puritan religion was once the central part of American identity. Unlike the Native
Americans, the Puritans were a highly intellectual group. They had systems of meticulously written
doctrines concerning the Renaissance. The Puritans also had a sense of adventure, which serves a
higher intent. By having this characteristic they seek to create a better society. This is the opposite of
what the French believed the Native Americans to be doing. According to the French reading they are
wanderers, with nothing to attach them to a place, neither homes nor relationships, neither possessions
nor love of country. This description is on the opposite end of the spectrum from the Puritan life. The
Puritans attribute their want for a better society to their pioneering spirit. They had the courage to
come from England and settle their families in a new place and begin an entire new life with no
guarantee of success. Puritans focus their religious beliefs around the notion of the covenant. This is
yet another example of the difference between Puritan and Native American world views. The

In fact, one third of high school wrestlers starve themselves to make weight (WebMd Health par. 14).
High school wrestling coaches encourage less eating, and low water intake, so that the wrestlers can

the sports season is over, wrestlers tend to continue there behavior all year round. An average wrestler

Humour in Advertising
Humour in Advertising
Introduction
The Encyclopedia Britannica defines humor as a ¡§form of communication in which a complex,
mental stimulus illuminates, or amuses, or elicits the reflex of laughter¡¨. Many marketers use humor
in advertising as a way of appealing to consumer¡¦s emotions. These positive emotions can potentially
lead to cognitive processes that entice the consumer to purchase the related product. Doing it right
means not only engaging the prospect but getting them to remember the product. However, that
depends, among others, on Social and psychological factors, How a person has been socialized may
affect there judgment of humorous advertising. Humorous advertising can be found in variety of forms
including TV, radio, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But after a while, although they still may smile at the joke, it¡¦s not so funny any more. Funny ads
need to be replaced periodically which in turn increases cost. Another point to consider when using
humor in advertising is that different things are funny to different people. A commercial that may
leave one person gripping their sides from laughter may leave a bad taste in another¡¦s mouth. The
target market must always be considered. What¡¦s funny in a client presentation may not be funny on
an airplane, in a cinema or in a hospital.
Advertising humor can backfire. If you make a joke at the expense of any one group, you will surely
alienate them which will in turn lose customers and devalue the company¡¦s image. Advertising humor
also needs to be product specific. Everyone has seen funny ads they have liked so much that they have
forgotten what was being sold. Advertising humor must relate directly to the company or products if
they want to be remembered. Corporate image and industrial advertising are serious business.
Unknown, risky, expensive, or sensitive products are not normally suited to the lighter touch of
advertising humor.
The Marketing Environment
When dealing with humour marketers must consider the various factors in the marketing environment.
Some of these factors include:
Social/cultural Factors: Marketers must understand that their audience and consumers are of a

Low Income Inequality
The notion of fairness is often the underlying basis in legitimizing the concept of taxing the rich more
than low income individuals. However, the very idea of fairness would assume that one gets paid
accordingly to what they produce for society, given their abilities, yet the current tax system based on
margins, opposes this very idea. More specifically, creating higher tax brackets for wealthy people
only creates an absence or lack of incentives for the poor to work because they are funded by such
taxes, just as the rich are no longer incentivized to produce more outputs in fear of these higher taxes.
This complex system influences the overall economic health of society and depending on your

The very idea that the poor who were given equal opportunities, are making earnings based off
someone else s wealth and outputs, is not just. Opposingly, the prosperous firms hold influential
power against the government since they accumulate an abundance of wealth for the economy, so they
hold a certain degree of power in manipulating their own tax dollars towards innovative services that
side or benefit them, in which democracy is now threatened. Similarly, shareholders are less
incentivized to invest in wealthy firms because they ll get high returns which is followed by high
taxes. This renders a situation of providing the poor with decreasing sums of money made by the rich
because they lack incentives to produce more wealth as they also receive less investment for such
outputs. Likewise, the consumer base for these firms are also declining because the poor are

Stylistic Elements Of Surrealism
Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is best known for its visual
artworks and writings. Officially consecrated in Paris in 1924 with the publication of the Manifesto of
Surrealism by the poet and critic André Breton (1896 1966), Surrealism became an international
intellectual and political movement. The Surrealists sought to channel the unconscious as a means to
unlock the power of the imagination. Artists painted unnerving, illogical scenes with photographic
precision, creating strange creatures from everyday objects, and developed painting techniques that
allowed the unconscious to express itself. Its aim was to resolve the previously contradictory
conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality. Surrealists work features element of surprise
and unexpected however many surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the
philosophical movement. With respect to that surrealism has many characteristics of work completed
such as Automatic Writing, the Surrealists were big on this thing called automatic writing. That s
when you write whatever comes to your mind without stopping or structuring your thoughts. You just

defining stylistic characteristics of Surrealism is the juxtaposition of imagery. The Surrealists like to

The Effects Of Peer Pressure On Children
Teenagers feel peer pressure everyday in their lives, whether in school or out in the town. During
teenage years, kids in school differentiate themselves from their parents. Not only do teenagers give in
to peer pressure, but also come up with unintelligent ideas at school. Thinking and feeling that their
ideas are worth a million dollars. One of my friends in my math class at Spanish Fork Junior High
came up with a careless idea that ended very reckless causing someone to get injured. When your
friends come up with a crazy idea you need to keep in mind that consequences can occur if you give
into peer pressure. Peer pressure not only has negative consequences, but also can have positive
outcomes as well. In ninth grade my friends were playing out in the fields throwing footballs at each
other during lunch time. Next to us there were a couple of girls who were doing tricks on each other
shoulders. They were on the Spanish Fork High School Drill Team, and that s when Chris got the idea
that we should all try to do what they were doing. I noticed some girls were doing flips from each
others shoulders. Chris, who considered himself to be very strong and athletic thought that it was the
coolest thing. He wanted me to get on his shoulders and do back flips off. I told him no several times.

Qualities Of Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey s reputation as a diva Mariah Carey (b. 1970) is one of the most worldwide famous and
best selling female singers in pop music industry who has been on stage since the early 1990s. As a
pop diva Mariah has earned a contrasting reputation. The pop star can be considered as an
extraordinarily talented person who with the power of her voice can convey the emotional nuances of
the music to her audience (Moohan, 2008, 163) and has extravagantly behavior and claims. Among
the essential factors which allowed Mariah Carey to gain her diva status there is a complex of
qualities: her significant voice, her songs authorship, image development, presentation in video clips
and on the media. First of all, it is important to point out that the singer possesses an exceptionally
beautiful voice, high soprano (Vincent, 2017), with the ability to sing in an outstanding way as she can
reach the higher notes than most of other singers. Her husky speaking voice presents a profound

Support Group Reflection
Translating What I learned In the grief support group I co lead with a Licensed Professional Clinical
Counselor (LPCC) and supervised by a Master of Social Work I learned how to facilitate a meeting.
The LPCC taught me the person centered approach and the social worker taught me to monitor client s
progression of goals. She allowed me to take lead, to link members together by similarities they share,
and to give members homework. The LPCC believed in self disclosure, she demonstrated this for me
in a fantastic manner the social worker I was with did as well. Teaching me that it is great to self
disclose when appropriate and when it will benefit the progression of the group or for them to feel
comfortable trusting the leader. In my group sessions I did not deem self disclosure appropriate to use.
How I will translate this is to be aware of my clients, to ask them what goals they hope to achieve, and
for them to keep journals of progress. I will create a safe atmosphere for clients to speak, provide
affirmation, and help clients set and maintain goals.
Evolution of Grief Support Group The grief support group I co led was an open group. This led to
introductions and a small orientation at the beginning of each session to create a positive tone for the
group. The other leader led this introduction for the first few sessions and asked me to observe, study,
and determine how I would like to convey an introductory message and the ground rules for the next
sessions. This

Stereotypes In The Year 2000
Low cut jeans, halter tops, Von Dutch hats, and velour Juicy Couture tracksuits. Ed Hardy shirts, fake
Louis Vuitton handbags, and neckties as necklaces. Flare pants, chunky highlights, rhinestones, and
Baby Phat phone cases. Welcome to the year 2000. I bet many of you readers just got flashbacks. I
also bet many of you cringed and/or gasped in horror at said flashbacks. It s not an uncommon
reaction. Our own Andrea Klick summed it up when I told her my idea for this column: 2000s style is
disgusting! Indeed, most people would love to forget the aesthetic of this particular decade. The
transition from the oft lauded 90s to the big, fat, futuristic Y2K created a culture dominated by
Myspace, MTV, and Paris Hilton, with Kim Kardashian following her like a spray tanned, bag toting
lapdog. Call the decade too recent or call it too horrible; either way, a 2000s style revival is an idea oft
dismissed. We ve kept the early aughts frozen in time, never to be thawed and let their Victoria s
Secret body spray scented charms flow back into the mainstream. Until now. The first inklings of the
2000s revival popped up in 2015, most notably an online article from Vogue titled The Year in

Essay on The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy
quot;The Mayor of Casterbridge quot;
In The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy, a person s future lies in the hands of his or her past
actions. The intelligent or ignorant decision that they make places an immediate or long term effect on
the rest of person s life. Michael Henchard, whose interactions with the people of Casterbridge lead to
his demise, is only one of the people who decide their own destiny through their actions. The
decisions that the residents of Casterbridge make affect the rest of their lives. The good and evil

East Africa And The Arab Slave Trade
The interactions between Africa and the peoples of Asia, Europe, and the Americas have been
transcribed through hundreds of accounts since the beginnings of civilization. Every conqueror within
reach of this continent has attempted to seize the opportunities and resources Africa holds one way or
another. What is arguably the most impactful attempt of controlling Africa was as seen through the
European colonization since the arrival of the Portuguese during the age of discovery. While the
European explorers were at work in Africa, another group of colonizers had their own foothold for
centuries prior, the Arabs. For centuries the Arabs have had interactions and attempts of imperial
expansion in Africa for the benefit of its many resources, most notably the slave trade. This was seen
particularly by the Omani Arabs during the 19th century and their slave trade in the Indian Ocean. The
Omanis expanded their borders into Zanzibar, only to be met with the hegemonic force known as the
British Empire soon after their expansion. Despite East Africa s proximity away from the British
Empire and most of their colonial interests in Africa, they seemed to have an obsession with
intervening in Zanzibar. Particularly, with the Arab s slave trade in East Africa. How did the British
colonial presence in East Africa impact the Arab slave trade? The answer may seem obvious as to the
British s goal to end the slave trade for sake of liberating the oppressed Africans, but the reality is

Summary Of The Poem XIV By John Walcott
From the very beginning of the poem XIV , it is clear the author is describing an experience that has
left a lasting impression on him. Walcott vividly details his childhood visit with the elderly storyteller,
and his journey there. Throughout the poem the author uses poetic devices to convey how this
experience was a defining moment in his transformation from childhood to adulthood, and contributed
to his identity and newfound wisdom. It is apparent from the first line of the poem that author is in a
state of overriding fear travelling through the unknown: likening the road to an old snake shedding its
skin. A snake is a clear representation of childhood fear and youthful paranoia, due to its intimidating
nature. Walcott compares the path to a snake because he fears it just like a snake, to him the path is
daunting and potentially deadly at first. The author not only compares the road to a snake but a snake
shedding its skin. This paints a grotesque image for readers and illustrates how he views his initial
journey with anything but enthusiasm. The author is in the unfamiliar wilderness searching for not
only the storyteller s house but himself. His state of childhood terror is only counterbalanced by his
encounter with the storyteller. Walcott effectively separates the poem into two parts according to the
state of mind he was in: fright and then wonder. He shifts from these two contrasting moods by stating
There s childhood, and there s childhood s

A Summary Of HIPPA Hurdles
In his Modern Healthcare article, HIPPA Hurdles , author Joe Carlson exclaims his concern for the
new rules set in HIPPA that will be put into place this month. HIPPA is a set of measures, and laws,
that healthcare provider s take to ensure they are safeguarding patient s health information (Carlson
2013). Carlson is speaking up for most healthcare providers when he describes his distaste for these
new provisions in the Omnibus HIPPA Final Rule. The main issue in these provisions states that
providers will have to Honor requests from patients to withhold sensitive records from insurance
companies if the bills are paid out of pocket. (Carlson 2013). He asserts that the reason this will
become an issue is because no one has the technology to simply safeguard one hospital or doctor visit
from insurers, and that their own technological programs compile everything together and make this
request difficult. While this new rule may be helping out patients, it will be causing more hardships
and possible punishments when the healthcare providers forget or are not able to do as the patient
asks. By grabbing his audience s attention through appealing to our logic and emotions, Carlson does
succeed in informing us about these new concerns. Throughout Carlson s article he uses a great deal of
other commentary to help get his point across. With that being said, this allows readers to gain trust in
what he is writing about because the credentials of these said people are worthy and believable.
Carlson will begin speaking about how getting these healthcare providers to comply with the new
provisions will be a hard task. He then will finish it off with a quote like, Overall, compliance is an
ongoing effort and it is something that entities should be thinking about every day, says Susan
McAndrew, deputy director for health information privacy at the Office for Civil Rights. It needs to be
on everyone s mind, not something that they will think about once a year (as cited in Carlson, 2013).
Carlson makes sure he gets his point across, but also makes sure the readers know he has done a great
deal of research on this topic so as to slowly gain their trust throughout his article. Another instance

The Final Lines From Beowulf s Speech
Consider the final lines from Beowulf s speech when he asks Hrothgar for permission to fight Grendel

translation use alliteration, assonance, and compound words to make vivid the nature of Grendel, the
devastating effects of that possible victory, and the necessary acceptance of God s will and the

Our translation almost seems to create key words in the lines that contain alliteration and assonance.
Examples such as fight with the fiend (440), frenzy fouling (449), or fear on that flower (444) add a
sense of drama and heightened awareness to the lines because of their bold, descriptive ... Show more

2. Consider carefully the cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood. How does the cross s narrative

narrative deviate from Anglo Saxon notions of heroism in its depiction of the crucifixion? In

Answer #2 The Dream of the Rood:
The cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood adhered to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism because
Jesus is depicted as a triumphant hero that defeats human sin which is startlingly unlike the actual
Biblical account. Essentially, poets in the Middle Ages put Jesus into the most popular box of the time,
the warrior box, in order to appeal to Pagans. Regardless, Anglo Saxon heroes were aggressive,
violent, and hypermasculine so Christ inherently subverts being a perfect Anglo Saxon hero because

Pros And Cons Of Small Town America
Let s talk about small town America. It is a wild place. It can be the greatest place on planet earth, or
the worse place you have ever been. Rural towns do have their ups and downs. For instance, in a
house out in the country, you can take a leak off of your back porch, and no one will care. However,
the location of many small country towns makes them a target for trouble. And out away from

rural life?
Let s talk about the good things first. A popular good thing that comes to mind is privacy. Privacy is a
window to freedom. You can piss off of your front porch and no one cares, you can listen to your
music as loud as you want to, and you can roam free in your underwear and, likely, no one will see
you. Privacy is good, but what else is nice about small town America? One word: Friends. In small

Personal Narrative Essay On Robert Newsom s Poem
It was a hot summer day in 1850 when I first set eyes on a man named Robert Newsom. I was sold to

Bring the community connection back to life. In every town, in every city from the West Coast of

Symbolism In Persepolis By Marjane Satrapi
Each author has their own special technique that they use in their work that makes their novel unique.
Symbolism is a common technique that is used by authors all over the world. It is an artistic style,
consisting of images and indirect thoughts to express a certain idea or emotion. Authors use
symbolism to add depth and meaning to a story. (Blogger p1) When a symbolic feature is put into a
story, the readers begin to think about the literal meaning and then compare it to the symbolic meaning
that could be interpreted from the text. Symbolism displayed throughout the novel Persepolis by
Marjane Satrapi portrays different views of the novel; historical, childlike views. The novel takes
place in Iran during the 1980 s which marked the beginning of political and religious confusion
throughout the country. Marjane Satrapi lives with a family who supports revolutionaries and attends

that are occurring around her. Since she was introduced to these situations at such a young age, she

Use Of Figurative Language In Sonny s Blues By James Baldwin
How Do Metaphor, Figurative Language, and Symbolic Imagery Contribute to Prose Fiction?

The fiction writing is usually done just to develop the interest of readers. Some writers make stories

He used figurative language to improve description in a short story. Since, it can enhance the way of a
short story and can also promote ordinary, regular language. Similes and metaphors have the
capability to make mental imagery and pictures with limited words count. They can improve the story
or novel by adding depth and influential similes and imagery to the narrative, and this is a valuable
way of illustration in the reader and making them bent. However, it can be concluded that the use of
symbolic imagery, figurative language, and metaphors help the readers understand a deeper meaning
of the objective of the story. References

The amount of oxygen available in natural waters is also limited by the amount of dissolved salts. This
factor is a determinant of oxygen availability in transitional zones between sea and fresh water. Pure
water, when equilibrated with oxygen at 0° C, for example, contains about 50 millilitres of oxygen per
litre; under the same conditions, a solution containing 2.9 percent of sodium chloride contains only 40
millilitres of oxygen per litre. Bodies of water may have oxygen poor zones. Such zones are especially
evident in swamps and at the lower levels of deep lakes. Many animals are excluded from such zones;
others have become remarkably adapted to living in them.

In Maya Angelou poem entitled Woman Work in the beginning she describes what a woman does for either her family, husband and jeopardizing her own happiness. Even though, throughout the poem the tone changes. It tends to have gotten a lot darker. She then describes of how unappreciative she feels and how she wants to rest. Maybe she wanted a break from doing the things she does every day. In the end, even throughout history of women being stereotypical of just doing things of only being able to cook and clean for their families... what are the next steps for them? What more can a woman bring to the table? if any... Generations after generations, it has always been the same when it comes to a traditional marriage. As we know, in the early centuries, marriages were set in stone. The man of the household was the with power. He was the only one with ability to work. Whereas the wife stayed home to take care of the children and do daily chores around the house. As the article, Being a Housewife in the 21st Century states, Being a housewife in the 21st century puts you in a controversial position. Many people believe women who are housewives are nurturing their families, making homes and building up society. Others are convinced housewives are old fashioned and outdated, responsible for thwarting the efforts of women who work outside the home and insulting the memory of those who worked so hard to obtain equal rights for women. (Harris) This also reminded me when Angelou stated in her poem Woman s Work, I ve got the children to tend The clothes to mend The floor to mop The food to shop Then the chicken to fry The baby to dry I got company to feed The garden to weed. (Angelou) Imagine how crazy it is to think how women does just exactly what Harris and Angelou stated. The article and poem insists woman are only capable of only being a housewife. In today s society, being a housewife could be a downfall. I also bet many of you cringed and/or gasped in horror at said flashbacks. It s not an uncommon reaction. Our own Andrea Klick summed it up when I told her my idea for this column: 2000s style is disgusting! Indeed, most people would love to forget the aesthetic of this particular decade. The transition from the oft lauded 90s to the big, fat, futuristic Y2K created a culture dominated by Myspace, MTV, and Paris Hilton, with Kim Kardashian following her like a spray tanned, bag toting lapdog. Call the decade too recent or call it too horrible; either way, a 2000s style revival is an idea oft dismissed. We ve kept the early aughts frozen in time, never to be thawed and let their Victoria s Secret body spray scented charms flow back into the mainstream. Until now. • 28. East Africa And The Arab Slave Trade The interactions between Africa and the peoples of Asia, Europe, and the Americas have been transcribed through hundreds of accounts since the beginnings of civilization. Every conqueror within reach of this continent has attempted to seize the opportunities and resources Africa holds one way or another. What is arguably the most impactful attempt of controlling Africa was as seen through the European colonization since the arrival of the Portuguese during the age of discovery. While the European explorers were at work in Africa, another group of colonizers had their own foothold for centuries prior, the Arabs. For centuries the Arabs have had interactions and attempts of imperial expansion in Africa for the benefit of its many resources, most notably the slave trade. This was seen particularly by the Omani Arabs during the 19th century and their slave trade in the Indian Ocean. The Omanis expanded their borders into Zanzibar, only to be met with the hegemonic force known as the British Empire soon after their expansion. Despite East Africa s proximity away from the British Empire and most of their colonial interests in Africa, they seemed to have an obsession with intervening in Zanzibar. Particularly, with the Arab s slave trade in East Africa. How did the British colonial presence in East Africa impact the Arab slave trade? • 29. Summary Of The Poem XIV By John Walcott From the very beginning of the poem XIV , it is clear the author is describing an experience that has left a lasting impression on him. Walcott vividly details his childhood visit with the elderly storyteller, and his journey there. Throughout the poem the author uses poetic devices to convey how this experience was a defining moment in his transformation from childhood to adulthood, and contributed to his identity and newfound wisdom. It is apparent from the first line of the poem that author is in a state of overriding fear travelling through the unknown: likening the road to an old snake shedding its skin. A snake is a clear representation of childhood fear and youthful paranoia, due to its intimidating nature. Walcott compares the path to a snake because he fears it just like a snake, to him the path is daunting and potentially deadly at first. The author not only compares the road to a snake but a snake shedding its skin. This paints a grotesque image for readers and illustrates how he views his initial journey with anything but enthusiasm. The author is in the unfamiliar wilderness searching for not only the storyteller s house but himself. His state of childhood terror is only counterbalanced by his encounter with the storyteller. Walcott effectively separates the poem into two parts according to the state of mind he was in: fright and then wonder. He shifts from these two contrasting moods by stating There s childhood, and there s childhood s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. A Summary Of HIPPA Hurdles In his Modern Healthcare article, HIPPA Hurdles , author Joe Carlson exclaims his concern for the new rules set in HIPPA that will be put into place this month. HIPPA is a set of measures, and laws, that healthcare provider s take to ensure they are safeguarding patient s health information (Carlson 2013). Carlson is speaking up for most healthcare providers when he describes his distaste for these new provisions in the Omnibus HIPPA Final Rule. The main issue in these provisions states that providers will have to Honor requests from patients to withhold sensitive records from insurance companies if the bills are paid out of pocket. (Carlson 2013). He asserts that the reason this will become an issue is because no one has the technology to simply safeguard one hospital or doctor visit from insurers, and that their own technological programs compile everything together and make this request difficult. While this new rule may be helping out patients, it will be causing more hardships and possible punishments when the healthcare providers forget or are not able to do as the patient asks. By grabbing his audience s attention through appealing to our logic and emotions, Carlson does succeed in informing us about these new concerns. Throughout Carlson s article he uses a great deal of other commentary to help get his point across. With that being said, this allows readers to gain trust in what he is writing about because the credentials of these said people are worthy and believable. Carlson will begin speaking about how getting these healthcare providers to comply with the new provisions will be a hard task. He then will finish it off with a quote like, Overall, compliance is an ongoing effort and it is something that entities should be thinking about every day, says Susan McAndrew, deputy director for health information privacy at the Office for Civil Rights. It needs to be on everyone s mind, not something that they will think about once a year (as cited in Carlson, 2013). How does our translation use alliteration, assonance, and compound words to make vivid the nature of Grendel, the devastating effects of that possible victory, and the necessary acceptance of God s will and the working of fate? Answer #2 The Dream of the Rood: The cross s narrative in The Dream of the Rood adhered to Anglo Saxon notions of heroism because Jesus is depicted as a triumphant hero that defeats human sin which is startlingly unlike the actual Biblical account. Essentially, poets in the Middle Ages put Jesus into the most popular box of the time, the warrior box, in order to appeal to Pagans.
