Scientific Method Lab Report
(INTRODUCTION) The scientific method is the procedure used to either ask or answer questions,
the components of the scientific method include: observation; which is watching something that
peaks your interest, then you must develop a hypothesis; this means that an individual has to make
an educated guess for the observation, afterwards an individual must define a question; meaning
answering the who, what, when, where and how, ( Simms). The reason for doing the experiment
was to figure out through deviation and the class average from the data gathered if the pipette or
the graduated cylinder would be able more accurate in measuring the volume of water. Before
beginning the experiment my hypotheses was that if I weigh the water in the two different... Show

The controlled variables in this particular case were the boats, the amount of water needed, and the
way we weighed the water by starting from zero to not include the boat weight. Another variable
that was considered was the independent variable, this is the one factor that was manipulated
during the experiment, this time it was the instrument that we used to measure the water, the
graduated cylinder and the pipette. The last variable was the dependent variable, or the variable
that was changed based on the changes made in the independent variable, the weight of the water
was what changed in this case because the water levels looked different based on the The meniscus
curve seen at the top of a liquid in response to its container. The meniscus can be either concave or
convex, depending on the surface tension of the liquid and adhesion to the wall of the container, (
Helmenstine). Each instrument displayed this differently because of the size of the measuring
instrument and so the 10 mL mark was seen differently based on the container housing the

Qualitative Research Analysis Of Irritable Bowel Syndrome...
Qualitative Research Critical Appraisal The qualitative research is a subjective approach that used
to describe life experiences and give them meaning. This assignment is a critical appraisal of the
qualitative research article written by Dainty, Allcock and Cooper (2014) entitled: Study of Irritable
Bowel Syndrome and Co Existing Psychological Illness . The hermeneutic phenomenology design
used throughout the study to understand the individual s personal experience, the meaning of those
experiences, and multiple realities in people s minds. The researchers used unstructured methods
for data collection and thematic analysis to answer the specific research question. As a result, this
article may be trustworthy due to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Literature Review Although the researchers reviewed the various literature to develop practice
guidelines, draw conclusions, create the research question, develop a study design, and find ways to
control bias. In fact, it presented key terms, such as hermeneutics, phenomenology, and interview
methods (Dainty et al., 2014). Descriptive style helps to bracket any preconceptions, since
hermeneutic methods acknowledge that an experience could influence its interpretation. The
hermeneutic phenomenological design linked to the study question, which based on the experience
of multiple realities (Dainty et al., 2014). Overall, the literature reviews adequately linked the
interview question and design through interpretative phenomenology theory. Research Design The
naturalistic design focuses on the reality that is not fixed, it lies in human minds; thus, the least
distance between researchers and participants can maximize understanding. The researchers and
participants actively involved in the conversation (Loiselle et al., 2011). The study used a specific
hermeneutic phenomenological design to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of the research
question (Dainty et al., 2014). Hence, the hermeneutic phenomenology design is an appropriate
design for the study because of the nature of the questions. Description of the Target Population

Critical Pedagogy Analysis
In The Art of Critical Pedagogy, Jeffrey Duncan Andrade and Ernest Morrell provide vivid
examples on how critical pedagogy is beneficial for academic success amongst individuals of
color. Critical pedagogy is a multicultural form of teaching that is rooted in the essential
experiences of marginalized peoples; that is centered in a critique of structural, economic, and
racial oppression; that is focused on dialogue instead of a one way transmission of knowledge; and
that is structured to empower individuals and collectives as agents of social change . (Duncan
Andrade and Morrell, 2008, p. 49) This style of teaching is essential within urban schools, as it
provides students the opportunity to establish critical intellectual and social skills.... Show more

In comparison to canonical form of teaching, students begin to learn and appreciate the unique and
equally meaningful aspects of their culture (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Critical pedagoy
that has provided cultural relevance has led me to become a more engaged student. By reading
Toni Morrison s book, The Bluest Eye, I often found myself more intrigued in learning similar
academic pieces, as the characters often displayed cultural characteristic that were nearly identical
to my personal experiences. This teaching practice kept me engaged with the literature, allowing
me to perform higher academically. Similar to my experience, students of color that began to
partake in culturally relevant courses often endure a vast improvement of their intellectual
performance. As a result, many began to take Advanced Placement courses and were able to
matriculate to four year universities (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Not only does critical
pedagogy allow for a deeper understanding of the curriculum, it also provides critical thinking skills
and intellectual resources that are not often provided to students of

Communication Plan For Fortescue Metals Group
. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This communication plan for Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) is
specifically devised to support FMG in engaging with their internal stakeholders. All stakeholders
take part in an important role in the corporation; however by using a strategic approach to internal
communication, a proactive strategy for long term business success with internal employees will be
created. This will ensure a reinforcement of benefits, highlight key elements, and present specific
issues that need to be taken into consideration. Furthermore the process of planning and
measurement of the internal communication strategy will take place. Communicating effectively
with stakeholders is critical to refining productivity within a corporation and generally occurs once
the stakeholders understand the intended message that FMG has specifically constructed tailored to
their needs, wants, facts, etc. This internal communication strategy will deliver a concentrated plan
to communicate FMG s vision; it s mission, values, and goals and clearly communicates why
stakeholders are such a huge mechanism that drives the business. Gaining understanding from
FMG s employees will be communicated most efficiently via formal two way internal
communication methods that support FMGs strategies as well as the consistent messages being
conveyed externally. 1.1 The benefits The objective of this strategy is to promote and nurture a
strong interaction within the corporation by creating a two way

management tasks that might help the organization to...

administer the network operating system:
Network and computer systems administrators are responsible for the day to day operation of an
organization s computer networks. They organize, install, and support an organization s computer
systems, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments,
intranets, and other data communication systems. Being a System or Network Administrator of a
large computer network can be a difficult, and time consuming task. It is not as simple as people
might think. Yes, once it is all running well, the life of a Network Administrator may seem easy, but

Remember to always think of the future. Once it s all implemented and built, you can administer
your network.
When administrating a network, you have to ensure critical services have as close to 100%
uptime, because if they are down, your users are going to hassle you all the time and that can be
quite annoying with some users. When maintaining a network, you also have a number of other
tasks to perform every day. These include:
User management
Adding, removing and apply security to user accounts and groups
Hardware
Upgrading hardware
Replacing faulting hardware
Software
Providing support for applications and operating systems
Ensuring critical data is being backed up
Monitoring
Monitor the system
Checking logs
Conducting security audits
Support
Attending to users help requests
Writing documentation
One of the hardest challenges in administrating a network is application support. You can very
rarely just add a major application or a network service without any issues. Your network will need
to support it. For example, you cannot host a website if you only have dialup internet. Other factors
that are needed to be taken into consideration are:
Does it need to be secured? Both physically and virtually; internally and externally
Can the application be supported Are their people who know how to use the application?
What risks will it introduce? Viruses, Hackers, privacy?
Is there enough network capacity to

U.s. Iranian Negotiations And The United States Essay
United States Iranian Negotiations
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has been regarded as the biggest diplomatic failure in the
United States history. While this seems to be an over sensationalized statement, analyzing the
dispute system design, cross cultural negotiation, and resistance points of the deal, may shed further
insight on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and how the United States resolves conflict with
Middle Eastern nations.
Historical Context
The relations between the United State s and Iran were amicable throughout the post World War II.
In entering the Cold War, the United States negotiated the Baghdad Pact in which an alliance
between, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan was formed. During this era, President Nixon encouraged the
Shah of Iran to develop a nuclear program and provided the funding to Iran s energy sector. The
United States maintained a close partnership with Iran until, the Islamic Revolution in February of
1979. The revolution overthrew the Shah of Iran and Ruhollah Khomeini became the new supreme
leader of Iran. Immediately following the revolution, Iran engaged in a war against Iraq in the
early 1980s. With a new balance of power, tensions grew between the U.S. and Iran. During this
time, Iran held 52 Americans hostage in an attempt to negotiate with the United States; however,
after the Iranian hostage crisis, the United States no longer saw Iran as an ally.
After the Iranian Revolution, Khomeini sought to increase Iran s nuclear

Analysis of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglass experiences
Among many abolitionists of slavery in early America were former slaves, Frederick Douglass and
Harriet Jacobs who lived to tell the stories of their quests for freedom during their time as slaves.
Harriet Jacobs, known for her narrative Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, was born into slavery
like many African Americans at the time. Frederick Douglass who was also born into slavery was
best known for his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Through these narratives both
Jacobs and Douglass each portray their own experiences of slavery in contrasting ways. Harriet
Jacobs centers her narrative around the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since slaves were not allowed schooling, illiteracy was very common for African Americans
slaves. For many people not accustomed to slavery, it was believed that slavery was simply a
state of natural being. People believed African Americans were inherently incapable of residing
in their society and consequently should live as laborers for white slave owners. Enforcing
illiteracy among children deprived them of their necessary morality and ethics. Southern slave
owners used this to their advantage control how the remainder of the country viewed slavery. If
slaves were illiterate, they were incapable of telling their side of slavery. Douglass is saying that
knowledge is key to winning against slavery. His quote, You have seen how a man was made a
slave; you shall see how a slave was made a man (Douglass) describes his transformation as a slave
with little knowledge and education to a man who has become very knowledgeable and educated
to beat slavery. Douglass uses knowledge as the road to his freedom. He seeks knowledge and
education to help slaves voice the wrong doings slaveholders are bringing upon blacks. Douglass
helps slaves discover their selves not as slaves but as men instead.
Frederick Douglass s Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass emphasizes less of the abuses
of female slaves and more of the abuses of slavery in general unlike Jacobs where she mostly
focuses on struggles from female slaves. Although Douglass doesn t talk as much about women as
Jacobs, he does mention female slaves usually associated with them suffering physically by the
hands of white men. Douglass only explains the physical abuses on these female slaves while
Jacobs emphasizes the mental abuses and tortures to where she explains to be much worse than any

Straight Chained Alcohols
Discussion
This experiment set out to investigate the relation between both straight and branch chained
alcohols at various carbon lengths. It was hypothesised that the longest straight chained alcohol
would produce the highest level of enthalpy. It was thought that branched chained molecules would
have weaker attraction forces due to the fact that they couldn t line up in as a close proximity
compared to straight chained alcohols. Resulting in weaker van de waals forces betwixt the
branched molecules. Thus allowing, a weaker force necessary to break the molecule apart for
combustion (Salters advanced chemistry, 2000). This would then make one assume a smaller rate of
enthalpy compared to straight chained alcohols. However, as seen evidently on the graph, the
branch chained alcohol clearly disproved this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To further improve this percentage, it is recommended that insulation techniques be carried out on
top of the copper rod conduction method to improve efficiency. Insulation is important as it further
aids in containing the heat produced from combustion. Further allowing more reliable testing.
Testing the enthalpy for control with just an aluminum can using tert butanol produced a low
efficiency of 16%. While testing again with tert butanol with the copper increased the efficiency
by 32.54% above the control. This shows that the insulation/conduction worked. The method of
investigation took into account various variables such as the amount of water, height of retort
stand and so on to further increase the validity of the investigation. The only thing in the method
which would further improve validity would be to create a way in which to stop the flame from
burning right after a five minute testing period per alcohol. This is because valuable grams of
alcohol were burnt whilst the can was lifted out of the shroud, in order to place the cap back

Potiphar Wife Accusing Joseph Analysis
Tension and Division in Potiphar s Wife Accusing Joseph Potiphar s Wife Accusing Joseph (1512)
is a print impression on laid paper by sixteenth century Netherlands Renaissance artist Lucas van
Leyden (known as Lucas). In his work, Lucas illustrates an Old Testament parable in which
Potiphar s wife presents the cloak of Joseph as proof of Joseph s attempt to seduce her before her
husband, the Pharaoh s captain who had placed Joseph in charge of the household. In this 12.4 cm x
16.2 cm print, Lucas articulates the tension and division at this moment of reckoning through the
careful arrangement of the figures, the contrasting depth of space and of lightand darkness as well
as the articulation of the figures facial and body expressions. Lucas... Show more content on

sceptre is directed heavenwards, as if seeking divine instruction, whilst his left foot and hand are
angled towards his companions in an apparent silencing gesture. The use of contrapposto also

Methane Hydrates And Its Effects On The Environment Essay
Methane hydrates, also known as Methane clathrates, are rapidly becoming a topic of interest to
many looking for alternative energy sources that would ease our reliance on fossil fuels while
scientists are working on innovative new ways to extract the energy with minimal damage to the
climate. These natural gasdeposits resting under ocean sediment appear very alluring to
governments and other entities looking for more energy independence. Nations look at energy
independence favorably as a way to stay geopolitically independent and perhaps gain an upper
hand in trade with nations that still rely on imported energy. The total amount of carbon located in
gas hydrates in the ocean exceeds the amount of all the oil, gas, and coal currently being refined in
total (Nersesian 2007).

All Quiet On The Western Front, By Erich Maria Remarque
Throughout history, war between man has been nearly inevitable. The impact of war has always
been devastating on all aspects. However, loss in war is mostly seen within the loss of land,
wealth and the numbers of lives lost. There are few accounts of the true losses felt from war, the
loss felt by the survivors and the true cost of human life. In the excerpt from All Quiet on the

Vera Brittain was an English writer who served as a nurse during World War I
. Nearly directly after
the war, tours of the battlefields began. Brittain goes on a tour in Italy in 1921 to find her
brother s gravesite. She recounts the pain she feels due to the loss of her brother, fiancГ© and
many if her friends. As she walks through the rows of graves on an Italian plateau, Brittain
describes the peaceful life her brother lived before the war. His life was calm and safe in an
uneventful town in England, but he ended up dying in an extremely bloody war in the country
sides of Italy. Brittain finds her brother s grave and is overcome with sadness, she wishes to stay
at her brother s side so she does not have to return to her trivial life as a survivor. She states that
at least there with her brother, there is a sense of peace and dignity that the survivors do not
have now. After the war, the people who survived were left without fathers or husbands and
there were very few people able to return to the work force. Within both excerpts, the pain felt
from war is showcased in a more personal way. It is not about the demographics of the loss but
how the war truly impacted the lives of people. While Remarque s excerpt focused more on the
suffering of the soldiers, he also makes it apparent that there will be suffering after the war. And
Brittain showcases exactly what the

The Girl Next Door Summary
In The Girl Next Door Megan and her sister Susan have to move in with their Aunt Ruth and
there three cousins, Willie, Ralphie, and Donny. Ruth allows her son and the neighborhood
boys to come to the house to drink and smoke. While the boys are over Ruth abuses Megan,
physically and emotionally in front of them. Megan is called a whore and is starved. Ruth beats
up Susan and blames her beatings on Megan. The only person who tries to help Megan and
Susan is David, the next door neighbor. One day Megan goes to the police and as punishment
she is put in the cellar and is hung from the rafters. They all play this game of confession with
her. Since she does not play along with the game they strip her, blindfold her, and put a gag in
her mouth. Ruth invites all of the kids in the neighborhood to the cellar so they can burn, beat
and cut her for their own amusement. The next day Megan gets raped by her cousin Willie
while everyone watched. David tried to leave, but was forced to watch. Ruth heats up a needle
and carves I fuck, fuck me on to Megan s stomach. Ruth decides in order for Megan to never
want to be with a guy and for no guy to want her she needs to give Megan a clitorectomy with a
blowtorch. Megan died from all the injuries caused by Ruth. The next morning David starts a
fire in the cellar to get people s attention. Ruth sees that there is a fire and goes in to the cellar.
David then beats Ruth until she s dead with a crutch. A police officer arrived and took Susan to
go get help. The end shows Willie and Donny being arrested. Willie s personality is just like Ruth
s. He is taught and shown how to disregard woman and to take everything from them. Since he is
taught and shown this behavior he thinks it is acceptable to cause harm to another human being.
He has the personality trait of being malicious. His sole being in the movie is to cause harm to
Megan and Susan and to make their life as unpleasant as possible. Willie was in the adolescence
stage in the movie which means he was forming his own identity and seeking independence. This
is illustrated when Willie is not told to act in such way towards his cousin, but does anyway. He is
forming his own decisions that are not based off of anyone around him

The Symbolic Interactionist View Of Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a national and annual holiday where people express their gratitude and
appreciation towards family members, friends, significant others, their religion, their health, their
education, or are appreciative of what they have. Most of us are all aware that Thanksgiving is
one of the happiest days of the year because we all share a traditional meal with our familyand often
give thanks to our loved ones. Typically, on this day interactions are what is primarily being
focused on. Everyone is communicating with one another about how grateful they are to have them
in their lives and this ultimately strengthens and provides reassurance to the relationship. The most
important part about Thanksgivingis that all families come together... Show more content on

As symbolic interactionists believe, the emphasis of family reinforces and restores these bonds
through symbolic occasions. The symbolic interactionist perspective strongly believes that such
holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas strengthen an individual s bond with others due to the
social interactions taking place during the family meals and holidays. From this past Thanksgiving
experience, I can thoroughly agree with the symbolic interactionists on their claim about how vital
family interactions are. Throughout the night, I observed how everyone was communicating with
one another and building better emotional bonds together. Disputes aside, everyone just enjoys
the holiday and reminisce about memories of the past holidays. I, for one, was forming closer
bonds with my cousins that have not really played a role in my life. We all happily ate and later
played games together as a family. Therefore, I cherish moments and memories like these because
not only do I become closer with my family members, although, I can look back and remember all
the great and special times we all shared together. Conclusively, interactions are extremely important
to establish a strong relationship whether it being family, friends, significant others,

How Did The Egyptians Influence Greek Math
Ancient Greek mathematicians contributed enormously to fundamental math that built up from
practical math such as geometry, engineering, astronomy and the astonishing academic
contributions to worldly influences. Greek mathematicians would the one of the earliest
civilizations to transform mathematics into rational thoughts when viewing all the concepts in the
world. From ancient mathematicians such as the Egyptians and Babylonians, they both viewed
their calculations through reasoning and using repeated observations to seek solutions to their
equations. There was no real framework of their proof being certain since geometric considerations
played a second role in arithmetic formulas. Greek mathematicians were influenced by the

They were interested in proving that certain mathematical ideas were true and spent a lot of time
using geometry to prove their theories. Due to this, the Greeks were all influenced on the idea of
proof and they used logical stages to prove or disprove their theories and its solutions. Also to

why math is based on deductive reasoning and through this mathematicians are reassured on their
absolute and proven theories. This also gave the building blocks to the mathematician Euclid and
his famous work, the Elements, which proved geometry from deductive reasoning to prove
common notions and postulates. Through the Elements, Euclid organized and presented the basics
of mathematical knowledge with results that were presented in a formally logical order. His
logical framework for geometry was very concise and even if one accepts the consensus view, it is
still reasonable to seek some sort of the explanation of the success of the practice (Avigad). Through
this, every statement demanded a

Jonas Salk s discovery was ground breaking. It was a rare moment in the medical world what
Jonas Salk did. He unlocked a new door in the medical for the next generation of doctors to find
the next great vaccine. One of example of Salk s lasting impression is Albert Sabin who used
Salk s original vaccine to create a better, newer, and more effective vaccine. Other people had
tried to find a polio vaccine but Salk s was the first effective one. Even after Salk found the Polio
vaccine he was not done doing research. In 1963 he founded the Salk institute for Biological

The Battle Of The Diamond Ring
Quite a few women dream about that day when a loved one gets down on one knee and asks that
extremely important question. As long as we can remember, this has been a tradition; from our
parents to our grandparents this has been the way. Whether it was a ring handed down from
generation to generation or newly bought putting your own little touch on it. Engagement rings
have been in our history for as long as anyone can remember, but the diamondring is something no
one can forget and its history is even more memorable. Originally, the ancient Greeks and Romans
were the first to have engagement rings. However, the engagement rings they used did not include
diamonds they included a key, which initiated that it was more of a sign of... Show more content on

After Rhode s time as a prime minister, he went to South Africa in pursuit of riches and gold. He
got his start by renting equipment to miners to pump out the floodwater that had destroyed their
claims. Saving up his money from his business, he bought his own claims which progressed to
more, slowly beginning an incredible monopoly (Raden 36). Over time, more diamonds and
diamond mines started emerging all over South Africa. Rhodes knew that if this continued,
diamonds would lose their value and become worthless. The reason this would be is because the
more supply of diamonds that were available the lower the demand would be on them since there
would be such a large quantity. In 1888, Rhodes found a solution to this problem: if diamonds were
not rare then he would just need to convince the consumers that they are. De Beers did this by
controlling not only the price of diamonds but was also able to control the supply, which
impacted the demand for diamond rings (Otens and Scott 35). By 1890, De Beers owned all the
mines in South Africa and only let out diamonds as it pleased. In 1902, Rhodes died and the new
owner became Ernest Oppenheimer (Raden 39). Oppenheimer had some trouble while he was in
leadership from almost losing the company to losing some of the profit from other competitors. By
the 1930s De Beers had complete control over the diamond industry. As stated from Eugene Fram

Pros And Cons Of Zoo s Involvement In Wildlife Conservation
Animal captivation has been an on going debate for many years. The idea of taking wildlife
from their homes, in many eyes, is tragic. To others, it is a step in the right direction. It is a step
towards, not only well developed and in depth research, butalso a step towards the conservation
of endangered species. As one can tell, these views can be quite disputable, however this paper
will discuss and compare both perspectives as well as dive into more specific aspects of wildlife
captivity. Some of these aspects include the lifespan comparisons, specific roaming necessities per
animal and even changes in animal behavior. Of course, keeping animals in captivity has pros and
cons. Given that researchers are still uncertain of captivity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This collection of sources includes mostly online articles as well as several news articles and
books. The sources range from the discussions of the lifespan of numerous animals tothe reasoning
behind study observations and research. In Zoos Involvement in Wildlife Conservation, Ramsey
begins by explaining the comparison between the beginning of animal captivity to the modern day
characteristics. He describes the very first zoos as having the focus to gain profit from the public,
rather than the concentration being towards the welfare of the animal. Today, the well being of
animals is the top priority in many programs across the world. Not only does this article also
describe the challenges that the programs must face, but also the difficult decisions the leaders are
required to make to continue their success in advanced research and conservation. Some of which
include the decision on whether or not to offer predators live prey to exert their natural hunting
instincts. The source concludes by informing the audience that some species could not have
survived without the help and involvement of zoos. Vittania.org emphasizes the effects on animals
in captivity in its article 21 Pros and Cons of Zoos. This source explains how zoos provide
educational learning, preservation of endangered animals to prevent extinction, humane treatment
towards the animals, readily available veterinary care. In addition, zoos also serve as an economic
resource for the community by providing jobs and increasing tourism statistics. It goes on to
explain the negative impacts such as changes in their natural behaviors. Elephants, for example,
need larger enclosures than a zoo can accommodate. Restricting the animals natural need to migrate
results in a shorter lifespan in captivity and also a more aggressive temperament.Another negative

Dairy Cows Rumination Time
Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease,
diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other
health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, Calamari (2013),
uncovered differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that
lower ruminations times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows
will enable an early detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death.
Rumination Time data can be also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical
symptoms of diseases and metabolic inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, Calamari,
2013). As Calving season approaches, cows display a change in the behavioral patterns and also
change in rumination patters. Conditions associated with calving kill 31% of the dairy cattle

during the calving period, is related to various health conditions, inflammation blood markers and
diseases commonly found during the first lactation month (Calamari, et al., 2014). Rumination
time is also a very accurate parameter for an early identification of metabolic disorders such as
ruminal acidosis, which is caused by feeding cows with high level of fast digesting carbohydrates

The Importance of the Sea in Chopin’s The Awakening Essay
The Importance of the Sea in Chopin s The Awakening
Unlike MarГa Eugenia, Edna in Kate Chopin s The Awakening chooses not to fill her family s
expectations. As she takes her final steps into the sea she thinks to herself: they need not have
thought that they could possess her, body and soul (655). Edna treasures her autonomy and chooses
death over familial subjugation. However her transformational journey, alluded to by the title of the
novel leads to more than the rejection of her self sacrificing familial roles as wife and mother and
her death.
We first meet Edna on her way back from a swim with Robert Lebrun, as Chopin begins to establish
Edna s burgeoning transformation in the context of her relationship with Robert and to ... Show

She can find no happy medium between being the model wife and mother that her friend, Madame
Ratignolle represents and the independent artist that Madame Reisz represents, while pursuing her
relationship with Robert and staying true to herself.
From the beginning of the story, the reader is alerted to the fact that Edna is experiencing an inner
struggle to reconcile her relationships with Mr. Pontellier, Robert, and herself. When Edna comes
back from her swim with Robert, Mr. Pontellier criticizes her; What folly! to bathe at such an hour
in such heat! (Chopin 522). From the outset, Mr. Pontellier is opposed to the engagement with the
water that Robert and Edna share. He is neither cognizant of the fact that Edna and Robert are
falling in love, nor is he supportive of Edna s transformation.
Later on in the story after Edna has taken up painting and refuses to receive callers, Mr. Pontellier
calls up his friend, Dr. Mandelet to evaluate Edna s mental state. Mr. Pontellier s action is
indicative of the women artist s position in society at the time, what Virginia Woolf refers to as the
crazy woman in the attic. During the late 1800 s, women that pursued their lives independently
were thought of as insane. Madame Reisz represents this stereotype in the novel as the single,
eccentric, piano playing, abrasive old woman who encourages Edna to pursue her art. In contrast,
Madame Ratignolle represents the ideal woman in society, a dedicated wife and

Mythological Elements Of Rip Van Winkle
Rip Van Winkle, a story written by Washington Irving in the early 1800s, demonstrates the
emergence and development of American Mythology. Packed full of mythological elements, Irving
s tale depicts a man who encounters mysterious and fantastical characters in equally intriguing
settings. Rip Van Winkle displays three major factors that contribute to mythology: mysterious,
historical setting, remarkable and strange characters, and heroic, magical events and their
consequences. Starting with setting, mythological stories often occur in historical time periods.
Alongside remote and mysterious, the historical setting aids the believability of the story. When a

The historical context urges the Irving s great tale into the world of American mythology. Another
example of the impact of mythological setting lies near the beginning of the plot arch. Rip goes up
into the Kaatskill Mountains to hunt; a place that Irving depicts as remote in the following excerpt
from the story: Rip had unconsciously scrambled to one of the highest parts of the Kaatskill
Mountains...and the still solitude had echoed. The isolation that Rip had while in the mountains,
where he would later sleep for twenty years, impacts the reader. It shows the reader the reason
why nobody ever found him, as well as evoking a deeper emotion and concern for Rip as he slept
out there all alone. Emotions find themselves imbedded in this mythology once again. Next, the
characters enter the scene of mythology. In order for mythology to come across as supernatural, the
characters must lend themselves to mystery. In Rip Van Winkle
, not only do other intriguing
characters appear, but Rip himself tends towards strange behaviors. After all, Rip did sleep for
twenty years without waking. That in its self begins to reveal the underlying interest of the story.
Perhaps the most strange and exaggerated characters would prove to be the bowler in the forest. In
the text it says, He was still more surprised at the singularity of the stranger s appearance. It goes

PEST stands for political, economical, social and technological factors. Two more factors, the legal

DNA: Interactions between Proteins
Deoxyribonucleic Acid is a molecule that contains the genetic makeup of almost all living
organisms. While Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA, has been successfully mapped out, many of its
interactions with certain proteins and enzymes have not been fully revealed within the atomic level.
The history and mysteries of DNA continue to fascinate biologists and chemists alike. However,
we must question, who was the first to discover DNA, and what scientists have done to further
enhance our understanding of it? In short, DNA was first isolated by physician Friedrich Miescher
in 1869; in 1937, William Astbury became the first person to produce an x ray diffraction pattern of
the DNA molecule. Sixteen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, adenine may only bind with thymine with two hydrogen bonds, and guanine may only
bind with cytosine with three hydrogen bonds. In broader perspective, purines may only bond with
pyrimidines. Adenine and guanines are the purines, due to their double ring molecular structure,
while thymine and cytosine are the pyrimidines due to there single ring structure. In addition the
strands of DNA are connected together between base pairs, through Hydrogen bonding. While
each base pair may only bind with its complimentary base pair, it is the sequence of the base pairs
that creates such genetic diversity amongst living organisms around the world. As scientists further
investigate the atomic structure and function of DNA, DNA replication is also being further
examined. During DNA replication, multiple enzymes, such as DNA Ligase, DNA Helicase, and
DNA polymerase assist in unwinding the DNA double strand into single stranded DNA
(essentially an unwinding of the DNA in which the hydrogen bonds are broken separating the two
strands) which would latter be used as a template for the creation of a new single DNA strand.
DNA is thus widely known as the genetic material for almost all living organisms. Although DNA
replication is in general understood, its atomic structure and interactions (between DNA and its
proteins and enzymes) are not. Hence, we must begin to

was under British economic control, but as it modernized, Iranians began fighting for their own

interfere to protect Britain s colonial holdings from Soviet influence. Because the US was not
interested in protecting a British business, British politicians emphasized the threat the USSR held
to Iran, leading to Americans inserting themselves into a nation s politics in which they had no

those with inflammatory bowel disease and other gastrointestinal problems are more likely to

by a looking for patterns of self centered behavior, constant need for admiration, a need to be seen

forming meaningful relationships. These traits must be persistent, inflexible, and maladaptive
which cause functional impairment and distress in order for a person to be diagnosed. The traits

Psychodynamically the attachment theory is the reason for the disorder. In one case lack of
parenting during the development years, meaning no recognition or regulation of a child s
emotions, leads to attachment issues. The patient will be avoidant of meaningful relationships but
constantly seeking attention from others. An alternative scenario is the parents overindulging the
child growing up, causing the patient to require being the center of attention while also receiving
constant positive reinforcement. Another instance is if the family places an emphasis on social
status and success throughout the child s life, the constant reinforcement during development
causing an obsession with perfection later in life. From a socio cultural standpoint narcissistic
personality disorder may stem an increasingly narcissistic society. Media, song lyrics, and
advertisements are all increasingly focused on being the subject being perfect and showing off
one s amazing lifestyle. Social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter are growing more
and more popular and are apps dedicated to allowing an individual to show off the best parts of his

Cyber And Or Internet Laws
Cyber and/ or Internet Laws Cyber Law is the law that regulates the internet. Meaning, laws or a
specific law connected to the internet and/ or computer crimes. Two emerging trends and legal
issues involving cyber law are E mail contracts, and cybersquatting. There are many more cyber
laws, but we will just discuss these two today. E mail contracts are contracts completed using e
mail. E mail contracts are enforceable as long as they meet the requirements necessary to form a
traditional contract. Cooper Blood, L. (Director) (2015, July 20). Traditional contract meaning it has

The theme behind the electronic contract law push is that technology is quickly evolving and in
order for states and economy to keep up, contracts electronically created and signed must be valid
and enforceable under electronic contract law. TechnologyLawyers.com. (n.d.). An example of an
E Contract legal case is Hubbert V. Dell Corporation. This case was a Putative class action lawsuit
brought by five lead plaintiffs. The plaintiffs purchased their computers from the Dell website, the
computers which they ordered contained Pentium 4 microprocessors, according to the defendant
that was the fastest, most powerful Intel Pentium processor available; but the plaintiffs asserted the
defendants representation was false, because the Pentium 4 microprocessor was slower and less
powerful than either a Pentium 3 or AMD Athlon processors, but more expensive. The plaintiffs
complaints were Dell violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Consumer Protection Act. The
defendants (Dell) argued that the plaintiffs were bound by an arbitration clause in their Terms and
Conditions of Sale, which was a part of the parties contract. When the plaintiffs completed their
order in the Dell website they clicked through five pages an on each of those pages there was a

Ship Breaker Dystopian
Dystopian literature is a genre of fictional writing that portrays the world in a worst case
scenario using three elements. These three elements are dystopian society, dystopian controls
and the dystopian protagonist. Paolo Bacigalupi uses these three elements to create a very
realistic dystopian novel that is not too far away from becoming a reality. With all of this said, It
is obvious that Ship Breaker is a completely dystopian novel. Not only is it a dystopian novel, but
it also gives a view into what the real world might look like in the near future. The bureaucratic
control in Ship Breaker is very evident when Bacigalupi begins to talk about the swanks. The

Biological Weapons And Its Uses
Introduction
Dating back to the 1100 s there have been records of the use of biological weapons in warfare.
This involved the usage of human and animal corpses to pollute water sources and to spread
diseases. Post World War One increased interest in biological weapons lead to them becoming
more advanced. With this improvement it is evident that warfare has evolved. This progression
in warfare can be seen when looking at the manner in which wars were fought prior to the
introduction of biological weapons in the 1100 s, and comparing it to the manner in which they
were fought succeeding the advancement of these weapons in the 1900 s. Although biological
weapons have rarely been used, their effects on warfare are apparent. When studying biological
weapons one must deliberate on the factors that have driven its use and creation as well as the
responses and threats thereof. This essay will therefore focus on depicting biological weapons and
their uses throughout history; beginning with its most medieval applications in siege warfare and
comparing it to its various uses in World War One, Japan in the 1920 s , the Cold Warand the
Persian Gulf War. The reasons as to why biological weapons have been used and created differ in
each circumstance, ranging from its advantageousness in imperialism to its role in instilling fear.
Furthermore, to properly determine the impact of biological weapons on warfare this essay will
examine the outcomes of its use. With the main response being the

Awana Personal Narrative
I grew up in a Christian home, with both my parents fully devoted to their faith. They would
take me to church every Sunday and I would learn so much about this person named God. They
also took me to Sparks, Cubbies, Awanas, TNT and eventually youth group. So I grew up
knowing so much about God and memorizing scripture through the Awana programs. Also I
remember every other morning waking up early in the morning, before my dad had to go to
work, to my dad singing out so loud, Devotions, Devotions! and we would learn about something
new that morning, give or take if I was actually awake to learn. A thing that was cool that I really
liked about those devotions was when my dad would tell us verses to remember he would sing

Luke Aikins Research Paper
With more than 16,000 jumps to his credit, professional skydiver Luke Aikins has performed
many heart stopping stunts, but his latest feat tops them all. On July 30, 2016, the 42 year old
daredevil became the first man in the world to leap off a plane from an altitude of 25,000 feet
without a wingsuit or parachute! Instead, he relied on a net that measured 100 by 100 feet, or less
than one third the size of a football field, to break his fall and help him land safely.
The stunt, aptly named Heaven Sent, was so dangerous that the United States Parachute Association
(USPA) initially denied the skydiver s request to jump without a parachute. However, the
association had a change of heart just minutes before the event, which meant that Akins had no
backup during the historic leap. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On Saturday evening, cheered on by family and friends that had gathered at California s Simi

they, along with millions of others watching on television, held their breath as Aikins plummeted
toward the ground, face first, with his arms outstretched. At about 10,000 feet, the skydiver handed
his oxygen mask to one of two team members who were doing the jump as well. They, of course,

What Was The Impact Of The Show Trials
This period in Russian history is painted red with blood, littered with dead bodies and left scars
on the people of the USSR. The actions taken by Stalin during this time caused major pain and
sorrow on the politics and society of the USSR. The consolidation of Stalin s power was a key
part for reason for undertaking the policies from 1930 s onward. The power struggle in the
Communist Party that had taken place after the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924 is precontext of
the purges that were soon take hold in the USSR. Stalin and Kirov struggle for leadership of the

Most importantly the execution Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky, the Red Army s most creative
thinker and strategist in 1937. During the first half of 1937 army officers were also purged,..
Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky and a group of senior officers from the Soviet high command
were found guilty at a closed trial of coordinating a German funded military plot inside the Red
Army. This purge on the Red Army had the same intentions as the rest of the terror to
consolidate the power of Stalin and grow the Capitalist plot against the USSR. This sparked a
mass of large amounts of executions of Red Army officers and soldiers that were taught the be
military fascist plotters. In reality, all of these men were innocent in every way. Just like in the
show trials that had gripped the nation s previous the NKVD beat confession out of all of these
men. This paranoic attack on the Red Army was the tip of the ice burger in the Great Purge. The
figures of the death tolls are staggering. While the size of the Red Army was not exactly known
at this time, however during this time approximately 35,000 men were arrested and on trial over
the course of 1937 and 1938. There are two main reason for the purge of the Red Army. The clash
of Tukhachevsky and Stalin due to Stalin s demands of the Red Army. When Stalin pushed the line
with Tukhachevsky he would reboke against which Stalin sit well with.

sovereign states, most notably Brunei, the Peoples Republic of China, the Republic of China,
Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam, claiming overlapping territory in the Spratly Islands, Paracel
Islands and the area around the Gulf of Tonkin. The overlapping claims began in 1876 with China
s earliest documented claim to the islands ( Territorial Disputes, 2015). However, more recently

This idea of self preservation is essential to any sovereign state, and all take a similar stance on
national security as the United States. One of protection. In order to accomplish this it is
necessary for states to be able to implement goals on an international stage, thus requiring a
certain amount of power. When it comes to the issue of obtaining power, two major methods
become apparent. The control over space and the control over physical place. Both of these
options available to states focus on power as Condign (based on force), Compensatory (the use of
various resources) or Conditioned (result of persuasion), and their sources as Personality
(individuals) and Property (their material resources) (Galbraith, 1983).
Concepts of Power
The first method is a more modern approach. Power via influence over territory instead of direct
ownership has become the field which most modern day nations find themselves fighting. While
control over place allows for direct manipulation, it is more costly than power through the use of
space . This method has been used since the early 20th century as nations begin to realize that
physical control of land is not essential. Instead countries can influence one another through things
such as control over essential commodities, trade routes or political influence. Even with this being
a more, politically correct, approach to control and involves less direct management, it is difficult to
dispute the obvious advantages physical

Martin Luther Justification
Martin Luther wrestled over justification his whole life, it tore him apart and tore him away from
the church. He set out to challenge the belief of the church at the time. He came to the opinion,
from his study of the gospel and the early church, that justification comes from God s gift of grace,
that only must be accepted through faith. To have salvation, one must be justified in front of God.
Luther struggled with this in his early years. He felt that to be saved he had to be righteous, which
caused Luther an immense amount of guilt since he saw how unrighteous he was. However, soon
he realized to be justified the only thing one must do is to have faith in God and His Son s
resurrection. There is no amount of works that one could do to be justified; one must only have
faith. Faith alone bring righteousnessand thus justification. Luther had a very strong belief that
salvation comes from faith alone. All that is needed to be justified in front of God is to have
faith. Michael M. Ramos writes Martin Luther believed that salvation depends not on human
effort or merit but only on the freely given grace of God, which is accepted in faith (35). Luther
believes that first God extends grace, which is the death of Jesus and the sending of the Holy
Spirit. God reaches out to man and offers grace. The grace is not because humans deserve it from
merit or human accomplishments. God extends grace because he is a righteous God. Now the only
thing that humans must do to be justified

Frank Sinatra Through The Lens Of The Observational...
Observational Learning Theory In studying Frank Sinatra through the lenses of the Observational
Learning Theory much can be understood. Albert Bandura s Theory states that individuals learn by
observing. His experiment included a Bobo doll an adult actor and a child observer. Bandura
picked an object, a bobo doll, that the children had never been exposed to and their fore did not
know how to react to it. He then had the children observe the adults hitting and kicking the doll.
Then when the children were placed alone in a room with the doll they began to emulate what they
watched the adults do. Therefore, showing that the children learned how to interact solely by
observing others interactions. This theory explains numerus behaviors and encounters that Frank
Sinatrahad. He often resembled the actions of his mother and father. Frank s Mother Natalia or
Dolly was resourceful she utilized her understanding of English and Italian language to make
herself an invaluable translator for immigrants during court proceedings (Kaplan, 2016, Sachs,
1995, Sinatra, 1985). This involvement with the courts allowed her to gain the respect of many
local politicians and eventually lead to her becoming a Democratic leader in her community. Dolly
was also entrepreneurial, she was the first immigrant woman to hold any position in her local
democratic office. Clearly this took immense determination that she demonstrated multiple times
during the Woman s suffrage movement were she once decided

  • 2. Scientific Method Lab Report (INTRODUCTION) The scientific method is the procedure used to either ask or answer questions, the components of the scientific method include: observation; which is watching something that peaks your interest, then you must develop a hypothesis; this means that an individual has to make an educated guess for the observation, afterwards an individual must define a question; meaning answering the who, what, when, where and how, ( Simms). The reason for doing the experiment was to figure out through deviation and the class average from the data gathered if the pipette or the graduated cylinder would be able more accurate in measuring the volume of water. Before beginning the experiment my hypotheses was that if I weigh the water in the two different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The controlled variables in this particular case were the boats, the amount of water needed, and the way we weighed the water by starting from zero to not include the boat weight. Another variable that was considered was the independent variable, this is the one factor that was manipulated during the experiment, this time it was the instrument that we used to measure the water, the graduated cylinder and the pipette. The last variable was the dependent variable, or the variable that was changed based on the changes made in the independent variable, the weight of the water was what changed in this case because the water levels looked different based on the The meniscus curve seen at the top of a liquid in response to its container. The meniscus can be either concave or convex, depending on the surface tension of the liquid and adhesion to the wall of the container, ( Helmenstine). Each instrument displayed this differently because of the size of the measuring instrument and so the 10 mL mark was seen differently based on the container housing the ... Qualitative Research Critical Appraisal The qualitative research is a subjective approach that used to describe life experiences and give them meaning. This assignment is a critical appraisal of the qualitative research article written by Dainty, Allcock and Cooper (2014) entitled: Study of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Co Existing Psychological Illness . The hermeneutic phenomenology design used throughout the study to understand the individual s personal experience, the meaning of those experiences, and multiple realities in people s minds. The researchers used unstructured methods for data collection and thematic analysis to answer the specific research question. As a result, this article may be trustworthy due to... Literature Review Although the researchers reviewed the various literature to develop practice guidelines, draw conclusions, create the research question, develop a study design, and find ways to control bias. In fact, it presented key terms, such as hermeneutics, phenomenology, and interview methods (Dainty et al., 2014). Descriptive style helps to bracket any preconceptions, since hermeneutic methods acknowledge that an experience could influence its interpretation. The hermeneutic phenomenological design linked to the study question, which based on the experience of multiple realities (Dainty et al., 2014). Overall, the literature reviews adequately linked the interview question and design through interpretative phenomenology theory. Research Design The naturalistic design focuses on the reality that is not fixed, it lies in human minds; thus, the least distance between researchers and participants can maximize understanding. The researchers and participants actively involved in the conversation (Loiselle et al., 2011). The study used a specific hermeneutic phenomenological design to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of the research question (Dainty et al., 2014). Hence, the hermeneutic phenomenology design is an appropriate design for the study because of the nature of the questions. Description of the Target Population Sampling Plan ... • 4. Critical Pedagogy Analysis In The Art of Critical Pedagogy, Jeffrey Duncan Andrade and Ernest Morrell provide vivid examples on how critical pedagogy is beneficial for academic success amongst individuals of color. Critical pedagogy is a multicultural form of teaching that is rooted in the essential experiences of marginalized peoples; that is centered in a critique of structural, economic, and racial oppression; that is focused on dialogue instead of a one way transmission of knowledge; and that is structured to empower individuals and collectives as agents of social change . (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008, p. 49) This style of teaching is essential within urban schools, as it provides students the opportunity to establish critical intellectual and social skills.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In comparison to canonical form of teaching, students begin to learn and appreciate the unique and equally meaningful aspects of their culture (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Critical pedagoy that has provided cultural relevance has led me to become a more engaged student. By reading Toni Morrison s book, The Bluest Eye, I often found myself more intrigued in learning similar academic pieces, as the characters often displayed cultural characteristic that were nearly identical to my personal experiences. This teaching practice kept me engaged with the literature, allowing me to perform higher academically. Similar to my experience, students of color that began to partake in culturally relevant courses often endure a vast improvement of their intellectual performance. As a result, many began to take Advanced Placement courses and were able to matriculate to four year universities (Duncan Andrade and Morrell, 2008). Not only does critical pedagogy allow for a deeper understanding of the curriculum, it also provides critical thinking skills and intellectual resources that are not often provided to students of ... • 8. U.s. Iranian Negotiations And The United States Essay United States Iranian Negotiations The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has been regarded as the biggest diplomatic failure in the United States history. While this seems to be an over sensationalized statement, analyzing the dispute system design, cross cultural negotiation, and resistance points of the deal, may shed further insight on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and how the United States resolves conflict with Middle Eastern nations. Historical Context The relations between the United State s and Iran were amicable throughout the post World War II. In entering the Cold War, the United States negotiated the Baghdad Pact in which an alliance between, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan was formed. During this era, President Nixon encouraged the Shah of Iran to develop a nuclear program and provided the funding to Iran s energy sector. The United States maintained a close partnership with Iran until, the Islamic Revolution in February of 1979. The revolution overthrew the Shah of Iran and Ruhollah Khomeini became the new supreme leader of Iran. Immediately following the revolution, Iran engaged in a war against Iraq in the early 1980s. With a new balance of power, tensions grew between the U.S. and Iran. During this time, Iran held 52 Americans hostage in an attempt to negotiate with the United States; however, after the Iranian hostage crisis, the United States no longer saw Iran as an ally. Harriet Jacobs Analysis Jacinto Rubio Dr. Jaime Cantrell English 223 7 November 2017 Analysis of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglass experiences Among many abolitionists of slavery in early America were former slaves, Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs who lived to tell the stories of their quests for freedom during their time as slaves. Harriet Jacobs, known for her narrative Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, was born into slavery like many African Americans at the time. Frederick Douglass who was also born into slavery was best known for his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. Through these narratives both Jacobs and Douglass each portray their own experiences of slavery in contrasting ways. Harriet Jacobs centers her narrative around the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since slaves were not allowed schooling, illiteracy was very common for African Americans slaves. For many people not accustomed to slavery, it was believed that slavery was simply a state of natural being. People believed African Americans were inherently incapable of residing in their society and consequently should live as laborers for white slave owners. Enforcing illiteracy among children deprived them of their necessary morality and ethics. Southern slave owners used this to their advantage control how the remainder of the country viewed slavery. If slaves were illiterate, they were incapable of telling their side of slavery. Douglass is saying that knowledge is key to winning against slavery. His quote, You have seen how a man was made a slave; you shall see how a slave was made a man (Douglass) describes his transformation as a slave with little knowledge and education to a man who has become very knowledgeable and educated to beat slavery. Douglass uses knowledge as the road to his freedom. He seeks knowledge and education to help slaves voice the wrong doings slaveholders are bringing upon blacks. Douglass helps slaves discover their selves not as slaves but as men instead. Frederick Douglass s Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass emphasizes less of the abuses of female slaves and more of the abuses of slavery in general unlike Jacobs where she mostly focuses on struggles from female slaves. Although Douglass doesn t talk as much about women as Jacobs, he does mention female slaves usually associated with them suffering physically by the hands of white men. Douglass only explains the physical abuses on these female slaves while Jacobs emphasizes the mental abuses and tortures to where she explains to be much worse than any physical ... • 10. Straight Chained Alcohols Discussion This experiment set out to investigate the relation between both straight and branch chained alcohols at various carbon lengths. It was hypothesised that the longest straight chained alcohol would produce the highest level of enthalpy. It was thought that branched chained molecules would have weaker attraction forces due to the fact that they couldn t line up in as a close proximity compared to straight chained alcohols. Resulting in weaker van de waals forces betwixt the branched molecules. Thus allowing, a weaker force necessary to break the molecule apart for combustion (Salters advanced chemistry, 2000). This would then make one assume a smaller rate of enthalpy compared to straight chained alcohols. However, as seen evidently on the graph, the branch chained alcohol clearly disproved this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To further improve this percentage, it is recommended that insulation techniques be carried out on top of the copper rod conduction method to improve efficiency. Insulation is important as it further aids in containing the heat produced from combustion. Further allowing more reliable testing. Testing the enthalpy for control with just an aluminum can using tert butanol produced a low efficiency of 16%. While testing again with tert butanol with the copper increased the efficiency by 32.54% above the control. This shows that the insulation/conduction worked. The method of investigation took into account various variables such as the amount of water, height of retort stand and so on to further increase the validity of the investigation. The only thing in the method which would further improve validity would be to create a way in which to stop the flame from burning right after a five minute testing period per alcohol. This is because valuable grams of alcohol were burnt whilst the can was lifted out of the shroud, in order to place the cap back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his work, Lucas illustrates an Old Testament parable in which Potiphar s wife presents the cloak of Joseph as proof of Joseph s attempt to seduce her before her husband, the Pharaoh s captain who had placed Joseph in charge of the household. • 13. Methane Hydrates And Its Effects On The Environment Essay Methane hydrates, also known as Methane clathrates, are rapidly becoming a topic of interest to many looking for alternative energy sources that would ease our reliance on fossil fuels while scientists are working on innovative new ways to extract the energy with minimal damage to the climate. These natural gasdeposits resting under ocean sediment appear very alluring to governments and other entities looking for more energy independence. However, loss in war is mostly seen within the loss of land, wealth and the numbers of lives lost. Nearly directly after the war, tours of the battlefields began. Brittain goes on a tour in Italy in 1921 to find her brother s gravesite. She recounts the pain she feels due to the loss of her brother, fiancГ© and many if her friends. As she walks through the rows of graves on an Italian plateau, Brittain describes the peaceful life her brother lived before the war. His life was calm and safe in an uneventful town in England, but he ended up dying in an extremely bloody war in the country sides of Italy. Brittain finds her brother s grave and is overcome with sadness, she wishes to stay at her brother s side so she does not have to return to her trivial life as a survivor. She states that at least there with her brother, there is a sense of peace and dignity that the survivors do not have now. After the war, the people who survived were left without fathers or husbands and there were very few people able to return to the work force. Within both excerpts, the pain felt from war is showcased in a more personal way. It is not about the demographics of the loss but how the war truly impacted the lives of people. While Remarque s excerpt focused more on the suffering of the soldiers, he also makes it apparent that there will be suffering after the war. And Brittain showcases exactly what the ... Ruth allows her son and the neighborhood boys to come to the house to drink and smoke. While the boys are over Ruth abuses Megan, physically and emotionally in front of them. Megan is called a whore and is starved. Ruth beats up Susan and blames her beatings on Megan. The only person who tries to help Megan and Susan is David, the next door neighbor. One day Megan goes to the police and as punishment she is put in the cellar and is hung from the rafters. They all play this game of confession with her. Since she does not play along with the game they strip her, blindfold her, and put a gag in her mouth. Throughout the night, I observed how everyone was communicating with one another and building better emotional bonds together. Disputes aside, everyone just enjoys the holiday and reminisce about memories of the past holidays. I, for one, was forming closer bonds with my cousins that have not really played a role in my life. We all happily ate and later played games together as a family. Therefore, I cherish moments and memories like these because not only do I become closer with my family members, although, I can look back and remember all the great and special times we all shared together. Over time, more diamonds and diamond mines started emerging all over South Africa. Rhodes knew that if this continued, diamonds would lose their value and become worthless. The reason this would be is because the more supply of diamonds that were available the lower the demand would be on them since there would be such a large quantity. In 1888, Rhodes found a solution to this problem: if diamonds were not rare then he would just need to convince the consumers that they are. De Beers did this by controlling not only the price of diamonds but was also able to control the supply, which impacted the demand for diamond rings (Otens and Scott 35). Dairy Cows Rumination Time Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). In order for mythology to come across as supernatural, the characters must lend themselves to mystery. While Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA, has been successfully mapped out, many of its interactions with certain proteins and enzymes have not been fully revealed within the atomic level. The history and mysteries of DNA continue to fascinate biologists and chemists alike. However, we must question, who was the first to discover DNA, and what scientists have done to further enhance our understanding of it? In short, DNA was first isolated by physician Friedrich Miescher in 1869; in 1937, William Astbury became the first person to produce an x ray diffraction pattern of the DNA molecule. Sixteen years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, adenine may only bind with thymine with two hydrogen bonds, and guanine may only bind with cytosine with three hydrogen bonds. In broader perspective, purines may only bond with pyrimidines. Adenine and guanines are the purines, due to their double ring molecular structure, while thymine and cytosine are the pyrimidines due to there single ring structure. In addition the strands of DNA are connected together between base pairs, through Hydrogen bonding. While each base pair may only bind with its complimentary base pair, it is the sequence of the base pairs that creates such genetic diversity amongst living organisms around the world. As scientists further investigate the atomic structure and function of DNA, DNA replication is also being further examined. During DNA replication, multiple enzymes, such as DNA Ligase, DNA Helicase, and DNA polymerase assist in unwinding the DNA double strand into single stranded DNA (essentially an unwinding of the DNA in which the hydrogen bonds are broken separating the two strands) which would latter be used as a template for the creation of a new single DNA strand. DNA is thus widely known as the genetic material for almost all living organisms. Although DNA replication is in general understood, its atomic structure and interactions (between DNA and its proteins and enzymes) are not. Hence, we must begin to ... Iran was under British economic control, but as it modernized, Iranians began fighting for their own control. Their fledgling democracy was working to modernize, until the UK and the US decided to interfere to protect Britain s colonial holdings from Soviet influence. Because the US was not interested in protecting a British business, British politicians emphasized the threat the USSR held to Iran, leading to Americans inserting themselves into a nation s politics in which they had no place. They successfully orchestrated a coup, however, the negative, long term, anti Western results overwhelm any positive effect. All the Shah s Men by Stephen Kinzer paints a picture of the results of action without adequate attention to future results. All the Shah s Men details the Iranian coup of 1953. The British, as a colonial power, ran the Anglo Iranian Oil Company, which provided much of the oil Britain needed during World War II. Not only that, but it provided large amounts of revenue for the nation. Meanwhile, the Iranians were not benefiting from the arrangement, as the British mistreated the Iranian workers and paid only a minute amount of the profits to the Iranian government. A politician, Mossadegh, arose who would work to nationalize Iranian oil production, taking away economic and political power from the British. This involved the usage of human and animal corpses to pollute water sources and to spread diseases. Post World War One increased interest in biological weapons lead to them becoming more advanced. With this improvement it is evident that warfare has evolved. This progression in warfare can be seen when looking at the manner in which wars were fought prior to the introduction of biological weapons in the 1100 s, and comparing it to the manner in which they were fought succeeding the advancement of these weapons in the 1900 s. • 49. Martin Luther Justification Martin Luther wrestled over justification his whole life, it tore him apart and tore him away from the church. He set out to challenge the belief of the church at the time. He came to the opinion, from his study of the gospel and the early church, that justification comes from God s gift of grace, that only must be accepted through faith. To have salvation, one must be justified in front of God. Luther struggled with this in his early years. He felt that to be saved he had to be righteous, which caused Luther an immense amount of guilt since he saw how unrighteous he was. However, soon he realized to be justified the only thing one must do is to have faith in God and His Son s resurrection. There is no amount of works that one could do to be justified; one must only have faith. Faith alone bring righteousnessand thus justification. Luther had a very strong belief that salvation comes from faith alone. All that is needed to be justified in front of God is to have faith. Michael M. Ramos writes Martin Luther believed that salvation depends not on human effort or merit but only on the freely given grace of God, which is accepted in faith (35). Luther believes that first God extends grace, which is the death of Jesus and the sending of the Holy Spirit. God reaches out to man and offers grace. The grace is not because humans deserve it from merit or human accomplishments. God extends grace because he is a righteous God. Now the only thing that humans must do to be justified ...
