Color-Blind Racism
Sociologist define race as a socially defined category based on real or percived biological
differnces between groups of people . In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different
categories that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived
that different races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved
that theory to be wrong because there is no such thing as a pure race. We are 99.9% genetically
idenitcal. Race is just a concept humans made up, it isn t actually real.
A minortiy group is the percentage of a ethnic group in a certain area. While dominate culture
stay dominant even if thy are technically the minorty, people of color are still considered to be
minorties. Sociologists define a minority as a group of people that are different from others in the
same society by race, nationality, religion, or language. A minortiey group is a social group that is
systematically denided access to power and resources avaible to the dominant groups of society (pg
220). Minorties tend to lack in power roles which then are subjected to certain discriminations, and
other unfair treatment. People are put into these minortiy groups because of ... Show more content

This is trying to state that race should be completely ignored and that we should jugde people by
the their charater rather than the color of their skin which is good but people are proud of their
race and ethnic background that shouldnt be ignored. No matter how hard people with color
blindness try to ignore the realities of race, it still exsists and so does racism. Race consiouness can
play a role in this because the goal is for people to reconize and be aware for race in our everyday
lives. We have to acknowledge what is around us to be able to move forward in changing the world
to accept race rather than pretending it doesn t

Two Theories of Literacy Development
In this task I am going to identify 2 different theories of language development I am going to be
doing, Naom Chomsky and Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget According to Piaget, language development is
related to cognitive development, that is, the development of the child s thinking determines
when the child can learn to speak and what the child can say. For example, before a child can say,
This teddy is smaller than that one , she/he must have developed the ability to judge differences in
size. In Piaget s view, children learn to talk naturally when they are ready without any deliberate
teaching by adults he thinks children pick up language by repeated behavior. From doing his
research into children s language and how they think,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Concrete Operations Stage, this stage was believed to have affected children aged between
seven and eleven to twelve years old. During this stage, the thought process becomes more
rational, mature and adult like , or more operational , although this process most often continues
well into the teenage years. Piaget claims that before the beginning of this stage, children s ideas
about different objects, are formed and dominated by the appearance of the object. For example,
there appears to be more blocks when they are spread out, than when they are in a small pile.
During the Concrete Operational Stage, children gradually develop the ability to conserve , or
learn that objects are not always the way that they appear to be. This occurs when children are
able to take in many different aspects of an object, simply through looking at it. Children are able
to begin to imagine different scenarios, or what if something was to happen. This is because they
now have more operational thought. Children are generally first able to conserve ideas about
objects with which they are most comfortable. Once children have learnt to conserve, they learn
about reversibility . This means that they learn that if things are changed, they will still be the
same as they used to be. For example, they learn that if they spread out the pile of blocks, there are
still as many there as before, even though it looks different! Formal Operations Stage

Asotyping In The Film Dr. Strangelove
In the film Dr. Strangelove , Stanley Kubrick took a difficult issue and transformed it into a
political comedy. He parodies the dangerous idea of an atomic war and the crazy people who were
planning it. Moreover, he tends to the issue of stereotyping. General Jack Ripper is the main
character in the film who is in the U.S. Air Force and goes completely insane, and sends bomber
wings to destroy the U.S.S.R. He thinks that the communists are conspiring to pollute the precious
bodily fluids of the American people. When the U.S. President finds out he meets with his advisors,
nuclear scientist, Turgidson, and Dr. Strangelovea former Nazi in the War Room to discuss how to
stop the attack on the Soviet Union from turning into a nuclear war. President Muffley brings
Soviet ambassador Alexi de Sadesky into the War Room and calls Soviet Premier Dimitri Kisov
on the phone to inform both on the situation. Mr. Sadesky then tells the President Muffley that if
the U.S.S.R. is hit by nuclear weapons, they will release their doomsday device which is said
can destroy all life on Earth. Now everyone in the War Room are displeased to learn about the
Doomsday Device and not knowing when it will be activated if any of Ripper s bomber wings
hits their targets. While they were thinking up a plan to stop the bomber wings Major T.J. King

Making Cars Lighter Cars Safer Cars
Making Cars Lighter Cars have been around for many years. The first car to move off its own
power was in 1769, and 1989 the average weight of a car was about 3,000 pounds. Overtime,
cars have been through many changes and improvements. Car makers are constantly in search
of improving cars to be better than the last. Can lighter cars be safer? Can the fuel economy
benefit if the production of lighter cars were to increase? And lastly, what are alternative
composites car makers can invest in? Making cars lighter will not only make them safer, but
they will also greatly benefit the fuel economy. Even though we may have the technology to
build lighter and safer cars, the cost affects puts this change on hold. Changing a cars build will
increase the price on cars and car makers will lose buyers. So instead, car makers will continue to
build heavy, gas guzzling, killing machines. Just about since birth, we have been passengers in a
car. Then later down the years, we become the drivers. When you think about it, we put ourselves
in danger every time we get behind the wheel or just in for the ride. Imagine if you are driving a
compact car and crash into a half ton pickup truck. The passengers in the truck will walk away with
little to no injuries, while you will possibly sustain serious injuries and potentially death.
The heavier car increased the expectation of fatalities by 0.00027 per car 27 deaths per 100,000
such vehicles.

With past conflicts with the Spanish and Asian countries, it is apparent that the Filipinos have
picked up a number of their tendencies along with their culture. The weather of the Philippines has
had a substantial effect on population, agriculture, smuggling, and insurgency. With an average of
seventy four degrees Fahrenheit year round; mean summer the highs stay around one hundred
degrees with the winters only dropping forty eight degrees Fahrenheit. The Philippines had a
population growth rate of 1.51% in 2017, which is one of the highest in the Asian countries. The
weather has also helped with agriculture. With its main agricultural crops, rice, corn, coconut,
sugarcane, bananas, pineapple, coffee, mangoes, tobacco, and abaca (which is a banana like plant),
the Philippines thrives with agriculture. Smuggling has always been a huge problem. In 2012,
According to the International Monterey Fund s Direction of Trade Statistics, the value of
smuggling reached $19.6 billion. Insurgencies in the Philippines go as far back as the Spanish rule
in the 1800 s. Ongoing insurgencies date back to the 1940 s with farmers and landlords, government
power struggles, communistic views, and of course religion. The areas, structures, capabilities,
organizations, people, and events I will cover are significant to military counterinsurgency
operations. The areas and structures most significant to insurgency, in my opinion, would be

Voting And Politics In The United States
Voting and Politics are topics that cause controversy amongst Americans. Moreover, many people
do not express his or her right to vote because they feel like their vote will not matter. Additionally,
many individuals just look for the republican or democratic candidate and conduct little research
as to the candidate s political views. I, however, look for three important aspects before voting for
an individual; His or her stance of education, the environment, and whether I feel they are
genuine in their promises. Since I am a special education major, education is important to me; not
only for a job, but for the future of our country. Before voting for an individual, I look to see how

Similarities and Differences Found Within the Book...
Buried treasure, eye patches, and walking the plank are all words and phrases that often appear in
stories involving pirates. Tales about the voyages of pirates are often adventurous and riveting
ones. It is very awe inspiring to think about the daring lives those pirates once led. However, it
might not be safe to assume that these stories are close to the truth or even based on genuine facts.
In 1881 Robert Louis Stevensonwrote a book entitled Treasure Island, which in return would
forever change the way people looked at the term pirate. Due to this book there are several
different movies that have been created to interpret the term pirate in different ways. Black Pirate,
The Dancing Pirate, Sea Hawk, and Captain Blood include some... Show more content on

The most important feature about the movie Sea Hawk is that pirates were for doing what the
pirates thought was right. These pirates could almost be thought of as gentlemen. These men were
out fighting for their country and for a just cause, not out to steal someone else s ideas or
positions, it seems. This is because these pirates were fighting a naval war against Spain for the
benefit of the British. For these pirates this was considered an act of piracy for a just cause. The
pirates in the movie Sea Hawk were considered to be the heroes which is a major movement
away from the standard evil, rival, or self serving character the pirates normally represent in other
movies of books. There was a point to their piracy, which was to defeat the British. Even though
these pirates still enjoyed the rewards of their actions, they did it not for the fame of fortune but
more for the physical rewards. These pirates were doing something much different then the normal
pirate might do and it is that they were doing what they were doing in the name of their county and
in Spain there were considered patriots by their fellow countrymen.
Now, the film Sea Hawk can be quite deceiving unless you look at the somewhat hidden meaning
behind these pirates. In the back of all of these pirates minds, they were doing everything to supply
their own self fish needs and wishes. The pirates portrayed in the movie placed themselves on the
side where they

Pawel Kuczynski s Art Essay
Phones are the easiest and most common way to get connected. Through his art, Pawel Kuczynski
is warning the audience of problems that phones cause among people. The artist has created many
paintings to convey the idea of technology causing people to become separated and disconnected
from one another. Kuczynski s art could be seen as a metaphor for young people, being connected
through technology but still isolated in loneliness. Phones are most likely the most commonly used
source of communication in the world; which begs the question of how they could possibly be
disconnecting people. The title alone, Islands, suggests to the audience a sense of distance and
isolation. That is also conveyed in the painting itself with the use of perspective... Show more

The title again has reference to the picture but doesn t convey the actual meaning. There is a person
scrolling through their phone while the snow falls. The person has been there so long that a snow
man was made on his back. This another great use of satire by Kuczynski. He has developed
such a playful way of calling attention to these overarching societal problems that no one really
seems to be talking about. The person in the picture isn t really living his life. All of his time has
been consumed with the phone that only has virtual images on it. It s crazy how technology has
done the opposite of what it was intended to do. Instead of playing in the snow with his friends
his just sitting out in the cold all alone. Every time I go out I notice fewer people communicating
with one another verbally. The common thought is that social media, phones, and just technology
in general connects people of all kinds across the globe. Connecting with people through the use
of technology has a few positives but what about the overwhelming negative aspects. Millions of
people can connect to children and other adults with horrifying intentions. Cyberbullying is
becoming prevalent in schools. Kids are being exposed to things they shouldn t be. Predators lurk
online all the time. Technology is expanding every day and more people are able to gain access to
it. A CNN article stated that

Water Shortage in Central California
Central Valley Water Shortage
1.Fresno is a city located in central California, also known as San Joaquin Valley Famously
knows for its grape field and green trees. Known for where the immigrants came to work, by
picking grapes making little to know money. Every year I go back to visit my home town about
twice a year, each time we get near the grape vine which is located between Fresno and Las
Angeles. The first thing that is noticed by the eye is the magnificent greenery and farm lands
that can t be passed without notice of its beauty. Every tree was full and rich looking to the roots
and all around the ground would look moist and fully watered, without a doubt these farm lands
where being taken care of. Recently in the past three years of taking the long exhausting drive
from the dry lands of Tucson to the green lands of Fresno hasn t been the same. The green lands
of central valley are not as green as they once were. The grounds look dry and not as moist as
before.

So, to convert location address into longitude and latitude coordinates, there is a number of ways
to accomplish this. You may have a GPS device which shows you these coordinates, and you
could just take a reading from the GPS while at the address and note down the coordinates. There
are also a number of software packages out there which provide this conversion, but you don t
particularly need to buy one of those geocoders unless you need to geocode a large number of
addresses. (Digital Maps API also provides geocoding of this sort, although it may not be as user
friendly to those unfamiliar with programming, and the service limits you to a certain number of

The Understanding Of Reading Comprehension
Abstract Reading is the process of constructing meaning through the self motivated interaction
among the reader s knowledge and the material proposed by the written language and the context
of the reading situation. The understanding of reading comprehension is to teach reading to
students acquire reading skills to become independent learners. The strategies of teaching will be
used to help students achieve their reading goals. In areas such as mathematics, developing teacher
content knowledge has been a major concern because it is generally accepted that teachers who
know these subjects are better able to teach them. As teachers, we need to research strategies that
can be used to teach students how to read in every content area. Our focus in this literature review
will be on mathematics and how teachers can find different strategies and activities to use to help
students learn to read and also to use prior knowledge as they implement these strategies.
Keywords: Knowledge Content, comprehension, mathematics Introduction Reading is a natural life
skill, and students must be able to read in order to function in society. Even in our everyday
responsibilities such as working, grocery shopping, driving, banking, and reading the newspaper,
we are required to do some sort of reading. One of the ways in which teachers can help students
improve their reading skills is through strategy instruction (Duke Pearson, 2002). Strategy
instruction involves teaching

Exploring the Idea of Evil Essay example
People have constantly attempted to understand what evil truly is, and, if possible, how to
eliminate this evil from their lives. However, first it must be known what it is that is being
eliminated. Different people, cultures, and eras have all had a different view of what evil is,
and how it affects their lives, and there is no true answer. Because of this, discussing the idea of
whether people are born or can be evil is meaningless. The idea of what evil is, and whether
people can be evil, is relative and cannot be applied to human nature in a universal way.
The discussion of whether evil exists is dependent on the definition of evil. In the sense of human
action, evil can be seen as consciously doing harmful acts. The idea of what ... Show more content

Therefore, according to Plato, no one is truly evil. However, if it seen from the perspective of
others, the act that is good for a person can be seen as evil for others. For example, if a person
steals to feed himself and his starving family, he can be seen as doing a good act because he is
doing what is right for him and for his family. However, to the storeowner, the same act is seen as
evil because the thief consciously caused harm to the storeowner. The very same act is seen as
both good and evil, dependant on the perspective that the act is seen from.
Although evil is dependent on the viewpoint from which it is seen from, some philosophers,
such as Lyall Watson, doubt that evil exists at all. According to Watson, evil is a force of nature
and is a part of nature, and as such, it can be said that evil is an illusion that does not exist.
However, according to dualism, this is not possible. Evil can only coexist with good, regardless
of whether it is universal or not. If no evil existed, then all actions would now be varying degrees
of good. The least good act would then be considered evil, and evil would once again exist.
Because good and evil are opposites, one cannot exist without the other. Also, supposing that all
evil did not exist, the only alternative action would be good. Therefore, if evil is taken away, or
does not exist, then people would

Are Race Car Drivers Athletes
Are Race Car Drivers Athletes? When people hear the word athlete, the first people they
probably think of are athletes like Reggie Bush, Kevin Garnett, or Sidney Crosby. The last kind
of person that is probably thought of is a race car driver. Which raises the question, is a race car
driver a true athlete? Much of this depends on how you would define the word athlete. According to
The Merriam Webster Dictionary, athlete is defined as a person who is trained to compete in
athletics (Merriam Webster). This leads to the question, what should be considered athletics and
what should not be considered athletics? The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines athletics as

Drivers must have a very strong neck to hold their helmet up while pulling multiple G forces on
their bodies for hours (Metcalf, Robert). Brute strength is probably not as important as cardio
workouts when it comes to race car drivers. Drivers are not trained as intensely as some other
professional athletes, but they should be in shape if they want to be successful. Endurance is
essential to any race car driver. Almost all athletes have to be able to make their bodies perform
at high levels for long periods of time, and a race car driver is no different. Many argue that all
race car drivers do is sit in a car and drive, and that anyone could do it. Many times in stock cars
the temperature can reach 120 degrees, and drivers will lose a sufficient amount of water from
their bodies due to sweat. On average a driver will lose about five to seven pounds over the
course of a race (Metcalf). At the same time it can be difficult to breathe in a stock car because
there is not much air coming inside of the car because of the aerodynamics. As a result, drivers
have a tube running into their helmet that blows air on them to keep them cool; otherwise, it is
very possible the driver could risk heat stroke during a race. Mark Martin, a fifty year old veteran

Persuasive Essay On Same Sex Adoption
One day I was looking out my window, watching my boys play. I started thinking about how they

lawyers of tomorrow. Later that day, I saw a news article discussing the issue of same sex
adoption. As I watched I thought to myself, where did we forget that it was about the kids? So,
out of curiosity, I began to look up some statistics about kids that have no homes, the ones that are
waiting for good families. I started wondering if it is about the kids, then why, do we care about
same sex adoptions at all. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really
get a feel for the issue you must understand both sides. However, the two sides of the discussion

the other side opposes same sex adoption. Both sides agree that what they want is what s best for

foster care. These statistics include the number of children currently coming into foster care,
compared to the number that exit foster care, and what the legalization of same sex adoption
would do to those numbers. Since what everyone wants is what s best for the children, you have
to look at the studies of how, if at all, same sex adoption affects children. The last thing we need
to address would be the public opinions of same sex adoption. This includes religious and moral
beliefs and the political ideas, as this is where the policies will be addressed and decisions made to

Enemy Of The People By Henrik Ibsen
Enemy of the People
Enemy of the people is a play written by a gentlemen named Henrik Ibsen, but has been adapted
by Arthur Miller, and directed by Ken Bonnaffons. The play was taking place in a small black
box theater also known as the Ciccone theater in Bergen Community College. The play was
performed on a few occasions, but I was able to attend the show on Friday, April 14th, 2017 At
7:30 PM. The writer, Henrik Ibsen, was born on March 20, 1828. Growing up as a child he didn t
yet discovered his passion for theater. Henrik was the oldest amongst five other of his siblings and
they were raised in the small Norwegian town. Henrik s parents Knud and Marichen Ibsen was

The Role Of Absolute Monarchy In France
The idea of an absolute monarchy had been the foundation of rule in Europe from the beginning.
However, a constitutional monarchy would provide a greater representation and opportunity for the
subjects of France moving forward. Migrating to a more democratic government through a
constitutional monarchy would better suit the people because it would grant the subjects more
political power while limiting the power of the King, and creating an equitable administration that
would abolish the caste system. Allowing this change created a form of accountability in regards to
the political power of the King to ensure that no ruler could abuse it. Under the absolute monarchy,
there was a divide between the three estates with the third estate, which

Reform to The Trinity River
Since the beginning of time, water has played a key role in societies all over the world. The
earliest recorded civilizations have all been found along large river valleys, such as, the Indus
River in India and the Yellow River in China. Water is an essential part of life; it does not just
sustain the life of all human beings around the globe, but also sustains the life of every living thing
known to this Earth. All of the major cities that we know today are surrounded by large river
systems that supply its people with the means to survive in that region. These rivers also link our
different communities together and allow us to prosper, but these rivers are being taken advantage
of. Our once great rivers are falling victim to pollution and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Trinity River has always acted as a natural barrier dividing northern and southern parts of
Dallas, but this project will connect the two parts of this city that have never had a direct route to
the other. Not only will these bridges join together two parts of Dallas, but it will also help to
ease traffic along the busy highways of this city. The river will also be transformed into an area
where different recreational activities will be held. The West Dallas Lake is long enough that
boating, both competitive and recreational, can be held there for all people. The West Dallas
Lake amphitheater will be an enjoyable place for the whole family to view special events like
the rowing competitions as they unfold on the lake. The many trails and whitewater rafting
courses will also stand as an exciting place for activity for all citizens of the city of Dallas. By
creating all these new features around the Trinity River, Dallas residents will once again be
drawn back down to the river. Citizens will enjoy the river that has given life to their great city

Different Types Of Naturally Occurring Fracture Networks
2.1 INTRODUCTION
It has been long recognized that the presence of naturally occurring fracture network can lead to
unpredictable heterogeneity and anisotropy within many reservoirs. In past geophysicists acquired
and processed P wave reflection data at short offset, which automatically implied relatively small
angular ray coverage. So seismic anisotropy, which is defined as directional dependence of elastic
properties of earth remains unnoticed. But with the advance of methodologies, acquiring long
offset and multi component data become feasible and cost effective, anisotropy showed up. On a
smaller scale, stresses in the Earth can cause rock to fracture in a consistent manner. If these
fractures are aligned, the rock will be anisotropic with the fast direction parallel to the fractures and
the slow direction perpendicular to them. In ideal cases, these observations can provide information
on the state of stress in the Earth. Different types of anisotropy have resulted depending on the
direction of fracture orientation. A set of parallel vertical cracks embedded in an isotropic
background gives rise a transverse isotropic medium with horizontal symmetry axis. Similarly in
sedimentary basins orthorhombic symmetry is commonly caused by parallel vertical fractures
embedded within a VTI background medium. It may also arise due to two or three mutually
orthogonal fracture sets, or due to two identical fracture systems criss crossing with an arbitrary
angle. Such sets of fractures

The Adaptive Nature Of Canada
The Adaptive Nature of Canada?s First People
The Canadian people have always prided themselves as champions of democracy and are
universally respected for their record on human rights. Although holistically this could be argued,
especially when compared to the United States and other Western states, the record concerning
Aboriginals, both past and present, has yet to live up to their self set standard. Defined simply as
anyone who traces his/her ancestry back to pre European colonization, there exist mass diversity
within its community. Although various political actors dispute the actual number of Aboriginals,
Statistics Canada reported in 2006 that 1,678,200 people indicated they were ethnically Aboriginal
or roughly 5.4 percent of the population (Statistics Canada: Population Counts). It has been the goal
of the Natives to regain sovereignty since it was stripped from them in the sixteenth century. Pushed
to the margins in all aspects of life from negligible political relevance in Ottawa to the isolation they
continue to experience on the remote reserves, the Aboriginal people have had their humanity
sapped continuously out of them, yet have never given up hope. The minute advances in the last
several decades? stand in stark contrast to repression experienced for centuries. Weathering an
intensely exploitive government, Aboriginals have endured unimaginable repression. It was not

gives space for new life in the forest as well. There are times, when fires will be intentionally set

Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and was installed
within the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to 1939 it was known as the Gare
d Orsay and was seen as the head of the southwestern French railroad network. However, after
1939, the station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the
modern, longer trains that appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads.
In 1975, the Direction des MusГ©es de France had considered installing a new museum within the

The station at this time was threatened with demolition and was to be replaced by a large scale

Themes In Twelfth Night
Understanding Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Shakespeare s Twelfth Night is one of his most beloved plays. There are several notable themes
that construct the play that makes twelfth night a great play. Many elements within the play take
on what it was like during Shakespeare s time, while others talk about political commentary. The
play talks about the main character Viola and her disguise as a man, while looking for her brother
Sebastian. Her disguise creates a lot of misperception; many would say Twelfth Night shines light
on sexuality; however it is the reader s exploration into Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, in which they
will explore the many possible truths and understanding of the play. Exploring the themes of gender
identity, love, madness and death, readers will have a better understanding the play an how each of
the themes connect.
Shakespeare s play has allowed for many readers and scholars to speculate its deeper meanings.
The play itself focuses on Viola s disguise as a man that ends up causing confusion and unwanted
love. Yet, it s the only way Viola can find her brother. Some could say that when Olivia falls for
Viola (Cesario), Viola have questioned herself because Oliva was so in love with Cesario, even
though she tells Olivia, bluntly that she cannot fall in love with her.(). This is strange for
Shakespeare to have a woman playing a man, since in his time all the men would play the women
roles and it was perfectly normal. One can imagine during

Broken Glass Jewish
In 1938, the onset of violent anti Semitic riots in Germany created one of the most horrific
struggles of our time. Not only did this outrageous holocaust bring sadness and death to the Jews
in Germany but also to the ones living here in America. In, The Broken Glass, by Arthur Miller,
we see the lives of three completely different characters portrayed. First, we see Sylvia Gullberg,
who has been a housewife ever since her husband Philip made her quit. She is the first one to be

he was a teen, and because of this ruins his marriage and ultimately his life. Lastly, Dr. Harry

director of the Federal Reserve, and you can talk to my wife like she s a man. These are
certainly statements that he would not be saying about his wife if he thought gender wasn t a
problem. As far as their marriage goes, Philip and Sylvia have a very business like relationship.
He feels he is the man of the house, which is why he won t let her work. Unfortunately, this way
of living for so many years has torn Sylvia apart from him. I believe Sylvia Gullberg is the
strongest character throughout this movie. Unfortunately, she too has been living a lie for the
past twenty years as a housewife and now even as she lay paralyzed in bed, fights to make a
difference. Once a businesswoman, she gave up all of that for everyone s sake but her own.
And now after all those years of hiding, she will not do so anymore. One of the most difficult
things she must face is the realization of her husband, Philip, being afraid of his own race.
Sylvia is a very well informed and respected lady. Even Dr. Hyman cannot escape the beauty and
inner drive that she possesses. For example, Dr Hyman tells her he has not been so moved by a
woman in a long time and is unsure if he can continue treating her. Time and time again she is
constantly giving while not ever receiving. Even as she lay paralyzed on the steps of her house,

Essay on Diomedes, the True Hero of Homer’s Iliad
Diomedes, the True Hero of The Iliad
In The Iliad, written in a 3rd person omniscient point of view, Homer gives a very serious account
of the tenth and last year of the Trojan War. It was in Homer s account that the very idea of
becoming a legendary hero reached its pinnacle; the choice of the better hero was not decided on
the events they participated in, but rather by their characteristics. The ancient Greeks had strict
criteria for individuals to follow if they were to be seen as heroes. Above all, a man needed to be a
skilled warrior, but this was not the only requirement. To be a hero, a warrior had to respect
authority, both governmental and religious. The Greeks gave heroes no room for pride. These men
were to be modest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this fight may have never happened if Athena had not disguised herself as one of
Hector s brothers and convinced him to fight (260). That was not enough though, as Athena then
helped Achilles win the fight (260 261). This seems to be the case with all of Achilles battles. A
god, goddess, or gods help him in battle by strengthening and encouraging him and his men, or
they rally a Trojan army into entering a futile final battle. Diomedes is also guilty of receiving
help from the gods. After praying for Athena s aid, Diomedes proceeds to not only slay Pandaros
(who wounded him earlier) and many other Trojans, but also wound Aeneas in his hip and his
mother Aphrodite in her hand (60 64). Later on in the same battle, Diomedes thrusts his spear
through the belly of Ares, also done with the help of Athena (73). Another example of Diomedes
skill comes when he and Odysseus spy on the Trojan camp. Diomedes goes ahead of Odysseus
and strikes down so many Trojans that the ground was reddened with blood (124). Even before
this, Diomedes prayed again to Athena for help. It seems no Greek warrior could fight their own
battles; instead, they requested help from the gods. This fact makes it difficult to discern the better
fighter between Achilles and Diomedes, but the common choice would probably be Achilles
because of his legendary status and he was the son of an immortal.

Ethos Of Apollo 11
In 1969, the Apollo 11 launch happened and became something rightfully important to the
United States. It was the talk of every news stations and newspapers. These two men, Neil
Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had risked their lives to do something the whole world had not done
before. They became the first men to walk the moon and this became something historical. After
walking the moon, they placed the American flag on it too, and to this day it is still there. With
all the newspapers talking about this, one that caught people s eyes was the Man Takes First
Steps on The Moon. The audience was the people who were concerned about the first man
landing on outer space. This was something abnormal at the time and nobody really had a clue
how a human body can manage this. Also, this event was used to see the improvement of human
success and what they have been capable of doing. Regarding space, it wasn t something that
was really used, it was more like an illusion and seemed so close but far away at the same time.
This text used ethos, and logos to support information about the moon s successful landing and
provide it for the audience. For logos, the fact that a well known newspaper publisher such as the

and full of facts to make the audience believe it more. With pathos, the kind of emotion, it was

Buddhism Origin
Origins Buddhism originated in the Ganges River Valley area in the late 6th century B.C.E. The
founder, Siddhartha Gautama, was born (ca. 563 B.C.E.) in a place called Lumbini near the
Himalayan foothills, and he began teaching around Benares (at Sarnath). The Buddha was a
member of the kshatriya caste who abandoned his privileged life to seek the meaning of life. In
his early years, he lived as a prince in his royal palace, but when Siddhartha was 29 years old, he
retired to the forest and followed a spiritual life of meditation. After six years, he attained
enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, India.
Divinity/Afterlife
Deities: After the Buddha died, some perceived him as a God. However, that is not what Siddhartha
Gautama taught. Buddhism is sometimes called an atheistic religion, although some prefer non
theistic meaning that believing in gods really isn t the point.
Buddhism accepted the basic Hindu doctrines of reincarnation, karma, and the goal to escape the
cycle of death and rebirth.
Formula for salvation: Nirvana is the final goal of Buddhism. It is a transcendent state in which
there is neither suffering, desire, nor sense of self, and the subject is released from the effects of
karma and the cycle of death and rebirth.

Our ecosystems are made of living and nonliving things that affect each other, so the importance of
being sure there is a safe water supply that is not contaminated universally is very important.
Similar studies that were done have proved similar findings such as another water analysis
experiment explained in an article by Joseph Montalvo and Ching Gen Lee which uses several
methods to identify trace organic contaminants in water. This study is in conjunction with EPA
standards. Different sources of water were treated with activated carbon (Montalvo Lee, para. 3,
1976). Different waters were treated from ground source water to tap water to bottled waters. Based
on the results, further testing is recommended. Because of the variables of different water sources
and carbon filters used, it is recommended that everyone test their drinking water before trusting it.
Another study, done by the USEPA makes sure the nation has safe drinking water by safeguarding
against hazardous minerals, wastes, and negligible risks by implementing safety measures and
making sure by law safety measures and precautions are taken (Cotruo, 2012, para. 6).

Student Motivation Of Student Observation
For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite
teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for
7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her
classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through
the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used
different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and
classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids,
which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen
learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to
work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I
was actually able to watch the high schoolstudents interact with their elementary school buddies .
What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs.
Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over
to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every
transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew
exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school
also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations
can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and
expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she
expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day
the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class
functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her
students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. The next class I observed was

therefore in order for the drug to be effective, it would need to be taken daily. Secondly, while the

criticism, one maycan suggest that intelligence tests may be inaccurate measurements of
intelligence. This issue is important because, in today s time, intelligence tests are used to
determine various things that pertain to individuals, and it would be wrong that for an individual
to be put in a category in which he or she does not fitis not to be in. The purpose of this paper is to
prove this to its respective audience by looking at our current standards of intelligence tests, what
intelligence tests cover, various flaws of intelligence and how to improve intelligence tests.
According to current standards, before an intelligence test can be used to assess intelligence, it
must meet certain criteria. An intelligence test must be reliable ( How Do We Measure
Intelligence? ). The reliability of a test refers to the consistency of the results of test takers ( How
Do You Measure Intelligence? ). If a test shows significant variation in its scores, then the results
cannot be considered accurate. Inaccurate scores cannot be used for other purposes such as
predicting future information. An intelligence test must be

The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay
Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye
Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience
through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate
product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist,
she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of
other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then
blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate
our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality,
Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely
experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a
postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of
Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person,
there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco
Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot going on in [her] home that was kind of
crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the space to finally express who she
really was. A member of Doug Varone and dancers, she

Wanderings in India
Soon, the young monks of Baraganore wanted to live the life of wandering monks with rags and a
begging bowl and no other possessions. On July 1890, Vivekananda set out for a long journey,
without knowing where the journey would take him. The journey that followed took him to the
length and breadth of the Indian subcontinent. During these days, Vivekananda assumed various
names like Swami Satchidananda, etc., It is said that he was given the name Vivekananda by
Maharaja of Khetri for his discrimination of things, good and bad. He is affectionately called
Swamiji by his admirers and devotees.
During these wandering days, Vivekananda stayed in king s palaces, as well as the huts of the
poor. He came in close contact with the culture of different regions of India and various classes of
people in India. Vivekananda observed the imbalance in society and tyranny in the name of caste.
He realized the need for a national rejuvenation if India was to survive at all. He reached
Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent in 24 December 1892. There he
swam across the sea and started meditating on a lone rock. He thus meditated for three days and
said later that he meditated about the past, present and future

The Metal Band
Many people give the thrash metal band Metallica the cold shoulder whenever they hear their
name in conversation. Most go right to thinking of The Black Album and how it worked its way
onto the radio waves, and that Metallica is a run of the mill metal band that got lucky by writing
a more mainstream album. However, since the early 1980 s they were already fairly well known
around the world even having not really written songs appropriate for radio play. Most fans of the
band before their mainstream approach can be found online scolding them for this very reason.
Metallicasymbolized the idea that someone could be successful without compromising themselves,
or selling out . This was in part why so many could familiarize with their music.... Show more

Already being known, Metallica moved its center of operation to San Francisco. This was where
they began to set up an enormous underground fan base. Having the advantage of coming first
before most thrash bands and also releasing albums before most of them were on the map meant
great success. By 1984 Metallica had already released Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning and
later that year signed with Elektra Records. By 1988 Metallica released ...And Justice for All and
by that time their underground fan following was colossal. Also, having the song One from that
album made into a music video aided in their media coverage. This song had been the first true
song of theirs to be heard on mainstream radio stations. By the arrival of The Black Album
Metallica was huge of course, but wanted to take it a step further. They changed their sound and
abandoned almost all of their thrash metal roots to a majority of songs that were radio friendly.
The shorter length songs as well as prevalence of ballads made it a commercial success. Many of
their hardcore underground fans felt that Metallica had turned their backs on their fan base and
were now a mainstream heavy metal act. Older records still sold quite well due to their choice to
continue playing their songs at live events. Some of the raised interest in their previous albums
was also due to many people now discovering Metallica from The Black Album. Metallica

Electron Radiation
Atoms are the microscopic building blocks of all matter in the universe. Everything around us are
made of atoms, including radiation. The centre of an atom is called the nucleus, it is made of two
particles: protons, which carry a positive charge and neutrons, which have no charge. Electron carry
a negative charge and it is outside of a nucleus. The attraction of these negative electrons to the
positive nucleus is what keep the atomtogether. All the atom of the given elements has a specific
number of protons and neutrons, but sometimes it will have too many of those and become
radioactive and an unstable atom is called a radioisotope. When radioactive want to be stable again,
they must release energy until they get back to a balanced state.... Show more content on

Firstly, the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant leaks radioactive water into underground
and to sea. The effect cause earthquake in 2011. After the earth quake on June 2011, scientists
measured that 5,000 to 15,000 terabecquerels of radioactive material was reaching the ocean.
Since the incident in 2011, scientists measured levels of radioactivity in fish and other sea life.
Several species of fish from this area had caesium levels that exceeded Japan s regulatory limit
for seafood. Scientists say the groundwater leaks could become worse, but warn against drawing
conclusions about the impacts on sea life before peer reviewed studies are completed. Secondly,
gamma rays can be used in medical treatment to kill cancer cell. However gamma can be
extremely dangerous because they are a very powerful source of power, if they delivered in an
unmonitored and uncontrolled way they can kill humans, animals and plants. Gamma rays however
can also disrupt the physical properties of materials. They can cause plastics and steel to become
brittle and to eventually break.
In conclusion, radioactivity has both negative and positive aspects. Negative impacts include the
radiation leaking and damage healthy organism or cell during treatment while positive aspects
consist of many different uses in medical science, security and daily life items. I support the uses of
radioactivity because the positive aspects outweigh the negative aspects and I believe that in the
future the radioactivity can be used positively in many other

Mass Spectrometry ( Working Principle )
Mass Spectrometry (Working Principle) What is mass spectrometry? According to the website
premierbiosoft.com mass spectrometry is a capable scientific procedure used to evaluate
known materials, to distinguish obscure mixes inside an example, and to illustrate the structure
and substance properties of various molecules. The entire procedure includes the change of the
example into vaporous particles, with or without fracture, which are then described by their
mass to charge proportions (m/z) and relative abundances. This is basically a technique that
study the effect of ionizing energy on molecules. In the event that something is moving and you
subject it to a sideways drive, rather than moving in a straight line, it will move in a bend
diverted out of its unique way by the sideways compel. Assume you had a cannonball going past
you and you needed to redirect it as it passed by you. All you have is a fly of water from a hose
pipe that you can squirt at it. To be perfectly honest, it won t have a considerable measure of
effect! Since the cannonball is so overwhelming, it will scarcely be avoided at all from its
unique course. Be that as it may, assume rather, you attempted to avoid a table tennis ball going
at an indistinguishable speed from the cannonball utilizing similar fly of water. Since this ball is
so light, you will get an immense avoidance. The measure of avoidance you will get for a given
sideways drive relies on upon the mass of the ball. In the event that

Essay on Elizabeth Cady Stanton s Fight for Equality
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was not just a mother, daughter, feminist, and writer; but she is the
woman who changed the lives of women everywhere by fighting for equality. Stanton lived a
normal childhood, but one that motivated her to never give up hope in reaching her goal. A quick
background of her life will help better understand why she became such a powerful woman s rights
activist. Also, what she accomplished that changed history and how it still affects us today in 2011.
I will also express my individual satisfaction with what this incredible woman has done for women
everywhere. On November 12, 1815 Elizabeth Cady Stantonwas born to the Cady family in
Johnstown, New York (Gordon, 2009). She was born into a high class, conservative,... Show more

Stanton accomplished great things although; she did not actually experience what her
accomplishments resulted in. She was an advocate for women s suffrage and that was her goal.
She died before she could see her wish come true, but all her hard work and accomplishments made
it happen. Along with her friend and partner Susan B. Anthony, Stanton began her fight for women
s rights in politics after the American Revolution. She organized the first national women s rights
convention in Seneca Falls (Gordon, 2009). This was the first time that the advocates for women s
rights formally organized. At this convention Stanton also co authored the Declaration of
Sentiments which really was the Declaration of Independence for women (Gordon, 2009). These
women knew how powerful the original Declaration of Independence was in the US, and they were
hoping to do the same. This showed the people who women are in the same situation that the US
was with Britain before the revolution. Writing the Declaration was a huge step because without it
they couldn t really illustrate how severe their situation really was. Another accomplishment was
the enactment of the married women s property statute in 1848. Stanton and her followers were
determined to see change in the property rights of women. In England, women had no

`` Mezzo Cammin `` By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow And When...
In the poems Mezzo cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and When I have a fear by John
keats, both poems themes are about the imminence of death and their unfulfilled dreams in life.
There are many similarities in the poem but they are mostly in the beginning of the poems, the
conclusion on the other hand is not similar. In Mezzo cammin the main theme of the poem is the
reminisce of his dreams from the past. Keats poems emphasize a theme of the waste of a
physical life and his fears associated with this waste. The similarities seen in the poem are for
most part in the beginning of the text. Long fellow states that Half of his life is gone and Keats
then states that may cease to be . They then proceed to express their fears of not being able to
accomplish the goals that they had. Long fellows acknowledges his down falls from his past,
stating The years slip from me and have not fulfilled the aspirations of my youth, to build some
tower of song with lofty parapet (lines 2 3). Keats fears are also very similar as he uses the word
Before multiple times, showing the reader his fears of dying before achieving the life goals that he
has. When reaching the second part of the poems, the reader starts to see the differences between
the poems. Keats starts to talk about the Cloudy symbols and the shadow . It seems that Keats
might believe that love is a predetermined life event, seeming as though he is disappointed that he
might of missed out on an

Wallace Stevens Disillusionment Of Ten O Clock
Wallace Stevens falls in the category with America s most respected poets. Stevens wrote many
of poems that got him to that prestigious category. Stevens was born in 1879 in Reading,
Pennsylvania and he took his last breath in August 1955 due to cancer. Harvard University is
where he was educated on literacy and was very successful at his time spent there. One particular
poem he wrote is short poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock in 1915 and it was published in his
first book of poetryat the age of forty four known as, Harmonium . In the book Harmonium ,
Stevens published eighty five of his best poems that a century later are still contributing to modern
day poetry. While reading a poem a readercan have plenty of different thoughts or may interpret
the meaning to the poem differently than others. That being said, it all just depends on your
knowledge and the way you view things. Not every person is the same, so not everyone is going
to agree on the meanings of poems and there is nothing wrong with that. Therefore, the truth about
poems is only the writer really knows the meaning and readers can just guess and make
assumptions of what they interpret. After reading Stevens poem, Disillusionment of Ten O Clock
the beginning seems to be describing a typical dull household that is going to sleep for the night
and it puts off a haunted feel because the people are wearing white night gowns that are bland. The
second half of the poem talks about how the people in white

The Monroe Doctrine And The United States Of America
Since the early 1800 s the history of the world has been greatly influenced by the young nation of
the United States of America. One of the earliest forms of this influence came on Dec. 2, 1823 in
President James Monroe s annual message to congress. In his address, he outlined his beliefs on
keeping European powers out of Latin America for the good of the US. This section of his speech
became known as The Monroe Doctrine. About 80 years later, President Theodore Rooseveltbuilt on
top of the ideas in the Monroe Doctrine in his address to congress on Dec. 6, 1904. This is
known as The Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, in which he describes his intentions
of keeping the sovereignty of Latin American nations by force if necessary. Although Roosevelt
directly links his ideas to the Monroe Doctrine, along with its similarities it also has a few key
differences. During his address President Monroe stated, ...we should consider any attempt on
their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous . Referring to
European nations interfering in Latin America, this shows his intentions during his speech; the
countries of Latin America are all in the very early stages of their independence and are
vulnerable to being taken over. Due to their position in proximity to the US, having a European
nation in power would directly put the US in danger. Monroe however had a problem, at the time
he did not have any way to back up his words. The US did

The following day, Alex woke up determined to find any sort of animal to hunt in the area. He

  • 2. Color-Blind Racism Sociologist define race as a socially defined category based on real or percived biological differnces between groups of people . In the 19th century biologist came up with the three different categories that groups the three human races: Mongoloid, Causasoid and Negroid. They belived that different races where charaterized by biological makeup. But modern sciences have proved that theory to be wrong because there is no such thing as a pure race. We are 99.9% genetically idenitcal. Race is just a concept humans made up, it isn t actually real. A minortiy group is the percentage of a ethnic group in a certain area. While dominate culture stay dominant even if thy are technically the minorty, people of color are still considered to be minorties. Sociologists define a minority as a group of people that are different from others in the same society by race, nationality, religion, or language. A minortiey group is a social group that is systematically denided access to power and resources avaible to the dominant groups of society (pg 220). Minorties tend to lack in power roles which then are subjected to certain discriminations, and other unfair treatment. People are put into these minortiy groups because of ... This is trying to state that race should be completely ignored and that we should jugde people by the their charater rather than the color of their skin which is good but people are proud of their race and ethnic background that shouldnt be ignored. No matter how hard people with color blindness try to ignore the realities of race, it still exsists and so does racism. Race consiouness can play a role in this because the goal is for people to reconize and be aware for race in our everyday lives. We have to acknowledge what is around us to be able to move forward in changing the world to accept race rather than pretending it doesn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Two Theories of Literacy Development In this task I am going to identify 2 different theories of language development I am going to be doing, Naom Chomsky and Jean Piaget. Jean Piaget According to Piaget, language development is related to cognitive development, that is, the development of the child s thinking determines when the child can learn to speak and what the child can say. For example, before a child can say, This teddy is smaller than that one , she/he must have developed the ability to judge differences in size. In Piaget s view, children learn to talk naturally when they are ready without any deliberate teaching by adults he thinks children pick up language by repeated behavior. From doing his research into children s language and how they think,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Concrete Operations Stage, this stage was believed to have affected children aged between seven and eleven to twelve years old. During this stage, the thought process becomes more rational, mature and adult like , or more operational , although this process most often continues well into the teenage years. Piaget claims that before the beginning of this stage, children s ideas about different objects, are formed and dominated by the appearance of the object. For example, there appears to be more blocks when they are spread out, than when they are in a small pile. During the Concrete Operational Stage, children gradually develop the ability to conserve , or learn that objects are not always the way that they appear to be. This occurs when children are able to take in many different aspects of an object, simply through looking at it. Children are able to begin to imagine different scenarios, or what if something was to happen. This is because they now have more operational thought. Children are generally first able to conserve ideas about objects with which they are most comfortable. Once children have learnt to conserve, they learn about reversibility . This means that they learn that if things are changed, they will still be the same as they used to be. For example, they learn that if they spread out the pile of blocks, there are still as many there as before, even though it looks different! Formal Operations Stage ... • 4. Asotyping In The Film Dr. Strangelove In the film Dr. Strangelove , Stanley Kubrick took a difficult issue and transformed it into a political comedy. He parodies the dangerous idea of an atomic war and the crazy people who were planning it. Moreover, he tends to the issue of stereotyping. General Jack Ripper is the main character in the film who is in the U.S. Air Force and goes completely insane, and sends bomber wings to destroy the U.S.S.R. He thinks that the communists are conspiring to pollute the precious bodily fluids of the American people. When the U.S. President finds out he meets with his advisors, nuclear scientist, Turgidson, and Dr. Strangelovea former Nazi in the War Room to discuss how to stop the attack on the Soviet Union from turning into a nuclear war. President Muffley brings Soviet ambassador Alexi de Sadesky into the War Room and calls Soviet Premier Dimitri Kisov on the phone to inform both on the situation. Mr. Sadesky then tells the President Muffley that if the U.S.S.R. is hit by nuclear weapons, they will release their doomsday device which is said can destroy all life on Earth. Now everyone in the War Room are displeased to learn about the Doomsday Device and not knowing when it will be activated if any of Ripper s bomber wings hits their targets. • 6. Making Cars Lighter Cars Safer Cars Making Cars Lighter Cars have been around for many years. The first car to move off its own power was in 1769, and 1989 the average weight of a car was about 3,000 pounds. Overtime, cars have been through many changes and improvements. Car makers are constantly in search of improving cars to be better than the last. Can lighter cars be safer? Can the fuel economy benefit if the production of lighter cars were to increase? And lastly, what are alternative composites car makers can invest in? Making cars lighter will not only make them safer, but they will also greatly benefit the fuel economy. Even though we may have the technology to build lighter and safer cars, the cost affects puts this change on hold. Changing a cars build will increase the price on cars and car makers will lose buyers. So instead, car makers will continue to build heavy, gas guzzling, killing machines. Just about since birth, we have been passengers in a car. Then later down the years, we become the drivers. When you think about it, we put ourselves in danger every time we get behind the wheel or just in for the ride. Imagine if you are driving a compact car and crash into a half ton pickup truck. The passengers in the truck will walk away with little to no injuries, while you will possibly sustain serious injuries and potentially death. The heavier car increased the expectation of fatalities by 0.00027 per car 27 deaths per 100,000 such vehicles. The people in the compact car are 10 times more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With past conflicts with the Spanish and Asian countries, it is apparent that the Filipinos have picked up a number of their tendencies along with their culture. The weather of the Philippines has had a substantial effect on population, agriculture, smuggling, and insurgency. With an average of seventy four degrees Fahrenheit year round; mean summer the highs stay around one hundred degrees with the winters only dropping forty eight degrees Fahrenheit. The Philippines had a population growth rate of 1.51% in 2017, which is one of the highest in the Asian countries. The weather has also helped with agriculture. With its main agricultural crops, rice, corn, coconut, sugarcane, bananas, pineapple, coffee, mangoes, tobacco, and abaca (which is a banana like plant), the Philippines thrives with agriculture. Smuggling has always been a huge problem. In 2012, According to the International Monterey Fund s Direction of Trade Statistics, the value of smuggling reached $19.6 billion. Insurgencies in the Philippines go as far back as the Spanish rule in the 1800 s. Ongoing insurgencies date back to the 1940 s with farmers and landlords, government power struggles, communistic views, and of course religion. • 9. Similarities and Differences Found Within the Book... Buried treasure, eye patches, and walking the plank are all words and phrases that often appear in stories involving pirates. Tales about the voyages of pirates are often adventurous and riveting ones. It is very awe inspiring to think about the daring lives those pirates once led. However, it might not be safe to assume that these stories are close to the truth or even based on genuine facts. In 1881 Robert Louis Stevensonwrote a book entitled Treasure Island, which in return would forever change the way people looked at the term pirate. Due to this book there are several different movies that have been created to interpret the term pirate in different ways. Black Pirate, The Dancing Pirate, Sea Hawk, and Captain Blood include some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important feature about the movie Sea Hawk is that pirates were for doing what the pirates thought was right. These pirates could almost be thought of as gentlemen. These men were out fighting for their country and for a just cause, not out to steal someone else s ideas or positions, it seems. This is because these pirates were fighting a naval war against Spain for the benefit of the British. For these pirates this was considered an act of piracy for a just cause. The pirates in the movie Sea Hawk were considered to be the heroes which is a major movement away from the standard evil, rival, or self serving character the pirates normally represent in other movies of books. There was a point to their piracy, which was to defeat the British. Even though these pirates still enjoyed the rewards of their actions, they did it not for the fame of fortune but more for the physical rewards. These pirates were doing something much different then the normal pirate might do and it is that they were doing what they were doing in the name of their county and in Spain there were considered patriots by their fellow countrymen. Now, the film Sea Hawk can be quite deceiving unless you look at the somewhat hidden meaning behind these pirates. In the back of all of these pirates minds, they were doing everything to supply their own self fish needs and wishes. The pirates portrayed in the movie placed themselves on the side where they ... • 10. Pawel Kuczynski s Art Essay Phones are the easiest and most common way to get connected. Through his art, Pawel Kuczynski is warning the audience of problems that phones cause among people. The artist has created many paintings to convey the idea of technology causing people to become separated and disconnected from one another. Kuczynski s art could be seen as a metaphor for young people, being connected through technology but still isolated in loneliness. Phones are most likely the most commonly used source of communication in the world; which begs the question of how they could possibly be disconnecting people. The title alone, Islands, suggests to the audience a sense of distance and isolation. That is also conveyed in the painting itself with the use of perspective... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title again has reference to the picture but doesn t convey the actual meaning. There is a person scrolling through their phone while the snow falls. The person has been there so long that a snow man was made on his back. This another great use of satire by Kuczynski. He has developed such a playful way of calling attention to these overarching societal problems that no one really seems to be talking about. The person in the picture isn t really living his life. All of his time has been consumed with the phone that only has virtual images on it. It s crazy how technology has done the opposite of what it was intended to do. Instead of playing in the snow with his friends his just sitting out in the cold all alone. Every time I go out I notice fewer people communicating with one another verbally. The common thought is that social media, phones, and just technology in general connects people of all kinds across the globe. Connecting with people through the use of technology has a few positives but what about the overwhelming negative aspects. Millions of people can connect to children and other adults with horrifying intentions. Cyberbullying is becoming prevalent in schools. Kids are being exposed to things they shouldn t be. Predators lurk online all the time. Technology is expanding every day and more people are able to gain access to it. A CNN article stated that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are also a number of software packages out there which provide this conversion, but you don t particularly need to buy one of those geocoders unless you need to geocode a large number of addresses. (Digital Maps API also provides geocoding of this sort, although it may not be as user friendly to those unfamiliar with programming, and the service limits you to a certain number of requests per time period.) About Mnemonics: Mnemonic devices are useful memory aids that can be applied to many different aspects of daily life. There are always certain tidbits of information that people just can t seem to remember in the form they are presented. People rely on mnemonics when they create some association between that information they wish to remember and other concepts that they already know, or find easier to remember. The use of mnemonics has also been shown to be of significant value in the field of education. Manalo has shown that instruction using a specific type of mnemonics known as process mnemonics produced improvements of mathematical ability in students classified as learning disabled [3].Process mnemonics are used ... • 16. The Understanding Of Reading Comprehension Abstract Reading is the process of constructing meaning through the self motivated interaction among the reader s knowledge and the material proposed by the written language and the context of the reading situation. The understanding of reading comprehension is to teach reading to students acquire reading skills to become independent learners. The strategies of teaching will be used to help students achieve their reading goals. In areas such as mathematics, developing teacher content knowledge has been a major concern because it is generally accepted that teachers who know these subjects are better able to teach them. As teachers, we need to research strategies that can be used to teach students how to read in every content area. Our focus in this literature review will be on mathematics and how teachers can find different strategies and activities to use to help students learn to read and also to use prior knowledge as they implement these strategies. Keywords: Knowledge Content, comprehension, mathematics Introduction Reading is a natural life skill, and students must be able to read in order to function in society. Even in our everyday responsibilities such as working, grocery shopping, driving, banking, and reading the newspaper, we are required to do some sort of reading. One of the ways in which teachers can help students improve their reading skills is through strategy instruction (Duke Pearson, 2002). Strategy instruction involves teaching ... • 17. Exploring the Idea of Evil Essay example People have constantly attempted to understand what evil truly is, and, if possible, how to eliminate this evil from their lives. However, first it must be known what it is that is being eliminated. Different people, cultures, and eras have all had a different view of what evil is, and how it affects their lives, and there is no true answer. Because of this, discussing the idea of whether people are born or can be evil is meaningless. The idea of what evil is, and whether people can be evil, is relative and cannot be applied to human nature in a universal way. The discussion of whether evil exists is dependent on the definition of evil. In the sense of human action, evil can be seen as consciously doing harmful acts. The idea of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, according to Plato, no one is truly evil. However, if it seen from the perspective of others, the act that is good for a person can be seen as evil for others. For example, if a person steals to feed himself and his starving family, he can be seen as doing a good act because he is doing what is right for him and for his family. However, to the storeowner, the same act is seen as evil because the thief consciously caused harm to the storeowner. The very same act is seen as both good and evil, dependant on the perspective that the act is seen from. Although evil is dependent on the viewpoint from which it is seen from, some philosophers, such as Lyall Watson, doubt that evil exists at all. According to Watson, evil is a force of nature and is a part of nature, and as such, it can be said that evil is an illusion that does not exist. However, according to dualism, this is not possible. Evil can only coexist with good, regardless of whether it is universal or not. If no evil existed, then all actions would now be varying degrees of good. The least good act would then be considered evil, and evil would once again exist. Because good and evil are opposites, one cannot exist without the other. Also, supposing that all evil did not exist, the only alternative action would be good. Therefore, if evil is taken away, or does not exist, then people would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When people hear the word athlete, the first people they probably think of are athletes like Reggie Bush, Kevin Garnett, or Sidney Crosby. The last kind of person that is probably thought of is a race car driver. Which raises the question, is a race car driver a true athlete? Much of this depends on how you would define the word athlete. According to The Merriam Webster Dictionary, athlete is defined as a person who is trained to compete in athletics (Merriam Webster). Drivers must have a very strong neck to hold their helmet up while pulling multiple G forces on their bodies for hours (Metcalf, Robert). Brute strength is probably not as important as cardio workouts when it comes to race car drivers. Almost all athletes have to be able to make their bodies perform at high levels for long periods of time, and a race car driver is no different. Many argue that all race car drivers do is sit in a car and drive, and that anyone could do it. Many times in stock cars the temperature can reach 120 degrees, and drivers will lose a sufficient amount of water from their bodies due to sweat. On average a driver will lose about five to seven pounds over the course of a race (Metcalf). At the same time it can be difficult to breathe in a stock car because there is not much air coming inside of the car because of the aerodynamics. As a result, drivers have a tube running into their helmet that blows air on them to keep them cool; otherwise, it is very possible the driver could risk heat stroke during a race. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Same Sex Adoption One day I was looking out my window, watching my boys play. I started thinking about how they are the future of the world. They are the engineers, presidents, congressman, businessman, and lawyers of tomorrow. Later that day, I saw a news article discussing the issue of same sex adoption. As I watched I thought to myself, where did we forget that it was about the kids? So, out of curiosity, I began to look up some statistics about kids that have no homes, the ones that are waiting for good families. I started wondering if it is about the kids, then why, do we care about same sex adoptions at all. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really get a feel for the issue you must understand both sides. • 26. Different Types Of Naturally Occurring Fracture Networks 2.1 INTRODUCTION It has been long recognized that the presence of naturally occurring fracture network can lead to unpredictable heterogeneity and anisotropy within many reservoirs. In past geophysicists acquired and processed P wave reflection data at short offset, which automatically implied relatively small angular ray coverage. So seismic anisotropy, which is defined as directional dependence of elastic properties of earth remains unnoticed. But with the advance of methodologies, acquiring long offset and multi component data become feasible and cost effective, anisotropy showed up. On a smaller scale, stresses in the Earth can cause rock to fracture in a consistent manner. If these fractures are aligned, the rock will be anisotropic with the fast direction parallel to the fractures and the slow direction perpendicular to them. In ideal cases, these observations can provide information on the state of stress in the Earth. Different types of anisotropy have resulted depending on the direction of fracture orientation. A set of parallel vertical cracks embedded in an isotropic background gives rise a transverse isotropic medium with horizontal symmetry axis. Similarly in sedimentary basins orthorhombic symmetry is commonly caused by parallel vertical fractures embedded within a VTI background medium. It may also arise due to two or three mutually orthogonal fracture sets, or due to two identical fracture systems criss crossing with an arbitrary angle. Such sets of fractures ... There are several notable themes that construct the play that makes twelfth night a great play. Many elements within the play take on what it was like during Shakespeare s time, while others talk about political commentary. The play talks about the main character Viola and her disguise as a man, while looking for her brother Sebastian. Her disguise creates a lot of misperception; many would say Twelfth Night shines light on sexuality; however it is the reader s exploration into Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, in which they will explore the many possible truths and understanding of the play. Exploring the themes of gender identity, love, madness and death, readers will have a better understanding the play an how each of the themes connect. Essay on Diomedes, the True Hero of Homer’s Iliad Diomedes, the True Hero of The Iliad In The Iliad, written in a 3rd person omniscient point of view, Homer gives a very serious account of the tenth and last year of the Trojan War. It was in Homer s account that the very idea of becoming a legendary hero reached its pinnacle; the choice of the better hero was not decided on the events they participated in, but rather by their characteristics. The ancient Greeks had strict criteria for individuals to follow if they were to be seen as heroes. Above all, a man needed to be a skilled warrior, but this was not the only requirement. To be a hero, a warrior had to respect authority, both governmental and religious. The Greeks gave heroes no room for pride. These men were to be modest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this fight may have never happened if Athena had not disguised herself as one of Hector s brothers and convinced him to fight (260). That was not enough though, as Athena then helped Achilles win the fight (260 261). This seems to be the case with all of Achilles battles. A god, goddess, or gods help him in battle by strengthening and encouraging him and his men, or they rally a Trojan army into entering a futile final battle. Diomedes is also guilty of receiving help from the gods. After praying for Athena s aid, Diomedes proceeds to not only slay Pandaros (who wounded him earlier) and many other Trojans, but also wound Aeneas in his hip and his mother Aphrodite in her hand (60 64). Later on in the same battle, Diomedes thrusts his spear through the belly of Ares, also done with the help of Athena (73). Another example of Diomedes skill comes when he and Odysseus spy on the Trojan camp. Diomedes goes ahead of Odysseus and strikes down so many Trojans that the ground was reddened with blood (124). Even before this, Diomedes prayed again to Athena for help. It seems no Greek warrior could fight their own battles; instead, they requested help from the gods. This fact makes it difficult to discern the better fighter between Achilles and Diomedes, but the common choice would probably be Achilles because of his legendary status and he was the son of an immortal. ... Different waters were treated from ground source water to tap water to bottled waters. Based on the results, further testing is recommended. Because of the variables of different water sources and carbon filters used, it is recommended that everyone test their drinking water before trusting it. Another study, done by the USEPA makes sure the nation has safe drinking water by safeguarding against hazardous minerals, wastes, and negligible risks by implementing safety measures and making sure by law safety measures and precautions are taken (Cotruo, 2012, para. 6). According to Dosomething.org, there are 884 million people who lack safe drinking water. Water related diseases take More than 840,000 lives each year. Diseases such as diarrhea ... Since Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday may be as early as the 23rd and as late as the 29th of November. More recently, there is new understanding that the term originates from the theory that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss for most of the year (January through November) and made their profit during the holiday season. When this would be recorded in the financial records, accounting practices would use red ink to show negative amounts and black ink to show positive amounts. • 38. Student Motivation Of Student Observation For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for 7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to watch the high schoolstudents interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. The next class I observed was Health, and it was the complete opposite of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Australian Drinking Culture Essay Introduction Australia has a well established and deeply ingrained drinking culture and while most people are satisfied with a few beers on the odd weekend or a glass of wine with dinner, others have become addicted and have developed alcohol dependence. With alcohol dependency now the most common substance use disorder in Australia the effects of this disorder are far reaching and catastrophic not only for the individual suffering the addiction and their family and friends, but for our government as well who is shelling out billions of dollars annually to address the fallout of this disorder. Alcohol dependent mice that were given Ivermectin where found to drink almost 50 percent less alcohol than those who were not given the drug. This significant and promising finding could see the medical profession moving away from current abstinence based treatment programs, which have success rates of less than 10 percent, towards such a program that allows alcoholics to enjoy a drink or two but be able to stop at that. However, while successful in curbing alcohol consumption in mice trials, the drug has yet to be trialed on humans. This poses two issues; firstly while the drug is FDA approved it is currently used at most two or three times per year in humans, for the treatment of parasitic infections. However, alcoholism is a chronic disease, therefore in order for the drug to be effective, it would need to be taken daily. Secondly, while the drug has been successful in altering the drinking patterns of mice, it might not prove to have the same success in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relevance And Effectiveness Of Intelligence Tests Emmanuel Ndukwe AP Seminar Mrs. Kristel Behrend 14 December 2015 The Relevance and Effectiveness of Intelligence Tests Intelligence tests are the most widely used method for assessing intelligence. This method has developed greatly over the past several decades. However, intelligence tests have continually been scrutinized for various reasons and due to this criticism, one maycan suggest that intelligence tests may be inaccurate measurements of intelligence. This issue is important because, in today s time, intelligence tests are used to determine various things that pertain to individuals, and it would be wrong that for an individual to be put in a category in which he or she does not fitis not to be in. The purpose of this paper is to prove this to its respective audience by looking at our current standards of intelligence tests, what intelligence tests cover, various flaws of intelligence and how to improve intelligence tests. According to current standards, before an intelligence test can be used to assess intelligence, it must meet certain criteria. An intelligence test must be reliable ( How Do We Measure Intelligence? ). The reliability of a test refers to the consistency of the results of test takers ( How Do You Measure Intelligence? ). If a test shows significant variation in its scores, then the results cannot be considered accurate. Inaccurate scores cannot be used for other purposes such as predicting future information. • 43. The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist, she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality, Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person, there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot going on in [her] home that was kind of crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the space to finally express who she really was. However, since the early 1980 s they were already fairly well known around the world even having not really written songs appropriate for radio play. By the arrival of The Black Album Metallica was huge of course, but wanted to take it a step further. They changed their sound and abandoned almost all of their thrash metal roots to a majority of songs that were radio friendly. The shorter length songs as well as prevalence of ballads made it a commercial success. Many of their hardcore underground fans felt that Metallica had turned their backs on their fan base and were now a mainstream heavy metal act. Older records still sold quite well due to their choice to continue playing their songs at live events. In the poems Mezzo cammin by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and When I have a fear by John keats, both poems themes are about the imminence of death and their unfulfilled dreams in life. There are many similarities in the poem but they are mostly in the beginning of the poems, the conclusion on the other hand is not similar. In Mezzo cammin the main theme of the poem is the reminisce of his dreams from the past. Keats poems emphasize a theme of the waste of a physical life and his fears associated with this waste. The similarities seen in the poem are for most part in the beginning of the text. Long fellow states that Half of his life is gone and Keats then states that may cease to be . They then proceed to express their fears of not being able to accomplish the goals that they had. Long fellows acknowledges his down falls from his past, stating The years slip from me and have not fulfilled the aspirations of my youth, to build some tower of song with lofty parapet (lines 2 3). Keats fears are also very similar as he uses the word Before multiple times, showing the reader his fears of dying before achieving the life goals that he has. When reaching the second part of the poems, the reader starts to see the differences between the poems. Keats starts to talk about the Cloudy symbols and the shadow . One of the earliest forms of this influence came on Dec. 2, 1823 in President James Monroe s annual message to congress. In his address, he outlined his beliefs on keeping European powers out of Latin America for the good of the US. This section of his speech became known as The Monroe Doctrine. About 80 years later, President Theodore Rooseveltbuilt on top of the ideas in the Monroe Doctrine in his address to congress on Dec. 6, 1904. This is known as The Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, in which he describes his intentions of keeping the sovereignty of Latin American nations by force if necessary. Although Roosevelt directly links his ideas to the Monroe Doctrine, along with its similarities it also has a few key differences. During his address President Monroe stated, ...we should consider any attempt on their part to extend their system to any portion of this hemisphere as dangerous .
