following questions below: 1. Briefly explain the problem you have chosen. How does it arise, and
what issues does it present? The problem I have chosen is Pain is part of the body s warning system .
Pain can arise from our feelings being hurt to damage being caused to our body. I will be discussing
the latter since it is pain that lets us know that we are not just alive, but experiencing the
uncomfortableness that makes us know something is wrong, and we need to pay attention to whatever
the source is that is causing us discomfort. 2. What three resources have you chosen to use as you

In my case, there were no signs that I had testicular cancer, and the only reason I went to the hospital

MBA633 : Managing Human Resources
1. What figure will Cal Jenson report to Fred Donofrio for the amount that absenteeism cost ONO last
year?
Answer: Using figure 2 5 on page 52 Cal must compute the total employees hours lost due to
absenteeism for the period. ONO lost a total of 539 hours of labor because of absenteeism. Second Cal
must compute the weighted average wage or salary totals to $23.50 an hour for an average salary of
$47,000. Third one must compute the cost of employee benefits for ONO employees is an additional
33%. Because absent employees are paid Cal must take the compensation lost/hour/absent employee =
wage/salary + benefits. Therefore 1.5/539/11=47,000 + 33% = (2.99 or 3). Next Cal must compute the
compensation lost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should not take an hour and a half to reschedule and fix your day of work. A good manager should
be able to manage running their business without calling in a temp or make sure for a day that calls for
extra people they have extra just in case someone does call out. When I worked retail I saw this first
hand with black Friday. We scheduled everyone that day and if it was to many people we would send
those who wanted to go home early home. Because the money made on black Friday was almost three
or four times higher than a normal day it didn t matter our employees hours for the day. 3. What
recommendations for action could Cal Jenson make to Fred Donofrio?
Answer: The first recommendation Cal should suggest is lowering the amount of sick days. Because
12 is 2 ½ weeks a year and the average American uses 2.3 percent of scheduled work time, or an
average of 5.5 unscheduled absences per year (F.Cascio, 2013), they could try cutting paid sick days to
10. If that works and numbers lower then leave it ten for a few years and lower it even more. Secondly
Cal should recommend that Fred pull the reports for the prior year and see the days that had the
highest earnings. Make sure those days you schedule an extra person. Because employees are salary it
doesn t matter if they work 2 hours or 8 for the day. Schedule a extra person just incase someone calls
out and if they are not needed send them home. Between scheduling an extra person and cutting
allotted sick days from 12

The Bihar Fodder Scam
Bihar has become a byword for the worst of India, of widespread and inescapable poverty, of corrupt
politicians indistinguishable from mafia dons they patronise, caste ridden social order that has retained
the worst feudal cruelties....of chronic misrule that has allowed infrastructure to crumble, the
education and health system to collapse, and law and order to evaporate (Long, 2004, p.17 18). India
has witnessed many scams over the years, and the number keeps increasing by the day. It is most
commonly the chief ministers, state and central ministers and members of various political parties who
are often reported for their involvement in scams. This article presents a descriptive and exploratory
analysis of informal money transfer relating to one such infamous case of Bihar Fodder Scam . The
article also delves into the core ethical issues involved, and the best way for the concerned
government bodies to respond to such cases of corruption in order to reduce such misconducts. The
World Bank defines corruption as the abuse of public power for private benefit (Worldbank, 1997).
The Animal Husbandry Scam a.k.a the Fodder Scam, is a clear example of this definition. The case in
question is a consequence of the incessant greed of politicians for money and power. It is reported that
about Rs. 950 crore were embezzled from the government treasuries of Bihar in this 17 year long case
(Indian Express, 2014). Despite being the third most populated state of the country and

Comparing Anton Chekhov s Romeo And Juliet
Not only Creasman s argument validates Gurov s behavioral transition, but also Robert Fulford, in his
elaborated article agrees when he explains ... it was only now, when [Gurov] s hair had turned grey,
that [Gurov] had fallen in love properly, in the way that one should do for the first time in his life
(339). Thus clearly shows how Gurov s character changes from being a selfish womanizer in to a real
time Romeo. As a matter of fact the critics did not only argue the behavioral or emotional changes of
the character, but also they discussed what significant event or action leads the characters to the
change. In his article, Creasman in support to his theory of Gurov s second flight suggests [Gurov s]
sudden awareness of the grossness and banality of life in Moscow (258), might have led him compare
with the time he spent with Anna. As a result, it contributed to the change in his mood and behavior.
Perhaps there is more reason why Gurov is the way he is. At the beginning of the story, the speaker
describes how Gurov dislikes his wife that [he] was afraid of her, did not like to be at home (Chekhov
252), is another evidence provided in justification to his adultery. The fact that he feared his wife

The way Chekhov portrayed the character at the beginning of the story is completely different from
the character seen at the end. In view of Creasman s interpretations of Gurov s two emotional flight,
and Fulford s arguments of Gurov s transition from his pervert personality to someone capable of
loving transcendently has strongly connect and support Gurov s and Anna s behavioral and emotional
change. Chekov, in his short story The Lady with the Dog showed the importance of the characters
behavioral change to keep the story lively and proved that sometime relationship as banal as an
extramarital affair can turn in to a transcendent

beef and dairy cattle production here.
The population of Edmonton is variously put at between 800 and 1,100, depending upon whether you
accept the U.S. Census or local Chamber of Commerce contentions. Almost all are of Protestant
persuasions and most are good Christians, except some ten or twenty of the heathenish sort, about

I am certain that there are groups here in Edmonton, Kentucky, who will very much want to maintain

Portrayal of Ophelia in the two film versions of Hamlet
Hamlet is an acknowledging Shakespearean play that was later filmed in 1990 by Franco Zeffirelli and
in 1996 by Kenneth Branagh. Both these directors interpret the play differently adding unique twists
and turns of their own to help focus on one thing than the other. In their contrasting films, these two
directors depict the character of Ophelia very differently. Through Zeffirelli s film, Ophelia, played by
Helena Bonham Carter is portrayed as a dreamy, naive, childish character, however in Branagh s
version; Kate Winslet portrays Ophelia as a more mature, sensible and strong willed character. These
different portrayals of Ophelia can be further analyzed through cinematography, set and costume
designs and through the actor themselves. Firstly, the different interpretation of Ophelia is shown
through the cinematography of the two films. Cinematography refers to the camera movement and
angles. Zeffirelli chooses to make many of Ophelia s shots filmed from above, reinforcing Ophelia s
character small helpless and under control. Whereas in Branagh s most of the scenes of are front, eye
level shots. These shots show Ophelia like anyone else in the movie. Another difference in shots can
be seen in the mad scene part, when Ophelia goes mad after the death of Polonius, her father. In
Zeffirelli s film the scene is the camera tends to follow Ophelia around showing

The Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar is the one of the famous Roman generals. Many may recognize this name from the great
works of Shakespeare. Before the great works of Shakespeare, Julius Caesar was famous in his Roman
city which. Julius Caesar was a dictator that turned the Roman republic to the Roman Empire. Even
though the life time of Julius Caesar took place in 100 BC 44 BC, people everywhere will mention
Caesar s name and legacy. For starters, Julius Caesar s time was very different from today life. People
did not get married because they were in love with the each other most of the time. The reason people
in Roman time got married was for perfect children. Babies that were not fit or unhealthy during this
time would be thrown out and left for dead. According to Phillip Freeman, Roman families had to
keep the first girl that is born and all healthy boys. (Freeman 23). During this time there were no
public schools, only private schools and tutors that came to the house. Julius Caesar had a tutor who
taught him and is sisters. Children that did not behave during this time would be whipped by their
teachers (Freeman 24). When boys turned 15 or 16 they would be considered an adult. Another thing
different about this time is that crucifixions took place. Caesar would do crucifixions to pirates
(Freeman 40).
Crucifixions would start off with a man being flogged, humiliated, and weakened. After being beaten

Analysis of the Movie Analyze This
Abstract: Film can be a very useful catalyst in teaching how not to treat patients. In Analyze This and
Analyze That, we see very extensive examples of this throughout the film. Through farce and
lampoon, we see the in this disjunctive way what proper CBT, criminal therapy and combating
recidivism is all about. Introduction In this short essay, the author will write an ethics paper analyzing
the movie Analyze This from an ethical perspective in a social science setting. It will be answered
from the perspective of a psychological and counseling professional who has to balance off the real
and potential conflicts at individual, professional and societal levels as portrayed in the film. As such,
we will identify specific laws and ethics codes that have been violated. The author will discuss the
case as if they are consulting with or supervising Ben Sobel in the film who they believe is behaving
unethically or unlawfully. They will state clearly what he is doing unethically or unlawfully with a
supportive historical background. They will then provide the possible steps for managing and
correcting the situation. The entire film is a therapist s behavior that revolvess around these issues;
Confidentiality, Privileged Communication, Privacy, Informed consent, and Receiving gifts, and a
Legal perspective upon the issues. To do the above, we will examine Ben Sobel s activities against
those of the known practices of counseling professionals. While Hollywood producers

Wallace, Gamelyn And Robin Hood Analysis
The stories of Wallace, Gamelyn, and Robin Hood are medieval legends written by Maurice Keen in
The Outlaws of Medieval Legend. Keen depicts the popular legends of medieval heroes who became
outlaws during the thirteenth to fifteen centuries. He also defines the term outlaw, which is, a person
who puts himself outside the protection of the law. What their attitudes and why were these outlaws
worshiped as heroes? The reason varies in each story. Keen maintains the main theme of outlawry.
Wallace, Gamelyn, and Robin Hood all have negative attitudes toward both secular and religious
authorities, as they fight against tyrants and oppression to become heroes of medieval people.
The first outlaw legend of Wallace shows that he had attitudes of racial hatred toward the English and
different opinions with Scottish aristocracies, but there is no sufficient evidence of his action against
religious people. Wallace was a patriotic warrior and a leader of the Scottish rebellion that sought
independence from English tyranny. Keen (2000) claims Scottish people suffered the behaviors and
barbaric actions of English soldiers (p. 66). With Wallace, the sheriff of Lanark murdered his beloved
lady, Marion Bradfute, and this unreasonable cruel toward innocent people ignited his anger and
hatred. He killed the sheriff of Lanark and became an outlaw afterward. Wallace disagreed with
Scottish aristocracies, who held lands in England, to compromise with the conqueror Edward I.
However, Wallace

Questions On Mixed Metal Oxides
2.11.3 Mixed metal oxides
Despite the advantages of individual metal oxides, their CLC performance decreased with the increase
of cycles due to the harsh CLC conditions. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its
supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the
limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or
even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle
CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.).
The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn
mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of
low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature.
Mungse et al. reported the pure phase of iron manganese oxides (FeMnO3 and Fe3Mn3O8) that
exhibit CLOU property. It was found that Fe3Mn3O8 was reduced into FeMnO3 at higher
temperatures. Fe3O4 and MnO were observed as reduced products after methane combustion reaction
of FeMnO3 [25]. Nickel manganese oxides were also prepared for methane conversion [50].
CoO NiO oxides were prepared as mixed oxide based oxygen carrier, however, the reaction rate was
lower than that of its individual oxides due to the formation of a solid solution of NiCoO2. However,

Monk Warriors from the Heian Period
While many individual monk warriors are still recognized from the Heian period in Japan, the most
notorious amongst them all in Japanese records and literature is Shinjitsu. Regarded as Japan s number
one evil martial monk, 1 Shinjitsu comes across as more of an akuso (evil monk) than the ultimate
representation of the greedy and violent sōhei 2 that previous interpretations and literature make him
out to be. In his book The Teeth and Claws of Buddha, Mikael S. Adolphson attempts to better classify
Shinjitsu as the monk commander and warrior administrator he was, and it is this new interpretation
that makes him so important. Shinjitsu, in historical records, was less likely to use his monastic
position than use his ties in the imperial court and with other nobility to assert his control, and was in
fact involved in the first event of the imperial court calling for help from monastic troops. Born in
1086, Shinjitsu belonged to a branch of the Minamoto clan, the Seiwa Genji, who were renowned for
their military services and accomplishments. After Shinjitsu s ancestor Minamoto no Mitsunaka
helped the Fujiwara clan strengthen their position in the imperial court, members from their branch of
the Minamoto family were called the teeth and claws of the Fujiwara. 3 Shinjitsu s grandfather and
father (Yoriyasu) followed in this tradition, and Shinjitsu seems to have picked up traits from both of
them, two of which are made obvious through the historical records concerning him.

finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular,
recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and
allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical
descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on
western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Inferno is gravid with endless symbolism
specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit
them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches
deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell.
The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In
Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark
and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he
seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He
describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great
Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved
horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by
virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud,
violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a
master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious
person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy
his individual needs through violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top
predator in the food chain. Similarly, humans are known to resort to violent means to fulfill their needs
and ambitions. The she wolf, the last

Education And Awareness Of Advanced Directives
Despite advanced public education and awareness of advanced directives there have been times when
if care is placed in the hands of physicians without a durable power of attorney, those wishes could be
terminated (CPOS, 2013). While most of the public would agree that not following specific end of life
choices is an unethical act, some hospital staff feels as though life saving measures may not be
appropriate in all situations, despite a written and signed document. The case that is analyzed in this
paper involves a man with end stage renal failure who clearly voiced and wrote his wishes on paper in
the presence of his primary physician and nephrologist. Without family or friends to act as his power
of attorney, a POLST form was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marks wishes were documented on paper and signed by himself, his primary physician and
nephrologist. Although he had schizoaffective disorder, this was medically treated and he was very
capable of making decisions. Months later Mark s health status began to deteriorate and he was sent to
the hospital after a dialysis treatment due to low blood pressure. In the hospital, his mental status
declined and a palliative care physician was consulted. The doctor noted that Mr. Turner did not have
the mental capacity to make decisions and his hospital doctor, Dr. Roper, claimed that the patient told
him to withhold all life sustaining medical treatment, even though this was not documented. Over a
period of time and deliberation among the medical staff, the decision was made to withdraw dialysis
and send Mark back to a nursing home on hospice, overriding his wishes of CPR and intubation if
necessary (CPOS, 2013).
End of life decisions are often not thought about until a serious illness or life event occurs. Specific
treatment during the dying process may encompass simple to extremely complex decisions involving
physical, legal, medical, spiritual, or psychosocial needs. Research shows that more than 75% of
Americans have thought about their end of life wishes, but had not put those decisions in writing or

Disadvantages Of Infinitive Clauses
Section Three
3.1 Non finite clauses
(Quirk, Greenbaum, Geoffrey, Svartik, 1985), say that non finite clauses are regularly dependent. They
are more compact and less explicit than finite clauses. They are not marked for tense and modality,
and they frequently lack an explicit subject and subordinator. (17): I don t know what to write about.
3.1.1 Types of non finite clauses
1 Bare infinitive
Bare infinitive is the base form of the verb without to, this form of nonfinite clause has no tense. The
bare infinitive in general is very limited because it mostly occurs after verbs of causation, perception
and modal auxiliary. (18): I saw Jim leave. (See is a verb of perception) (19): I can tell the truth.
(Telling the truth is what occurs after modal auxiliary.
Bare infinitive in this case, functions as the complement of a verb, that is , it adds more information to
make the main verb understandable. (Biber, Johansson, Leech, Conrad, Finegan, 1999).
2 Infinitive clauses
Uninflected infinitive forms which comprise simply the base or stem of the verb with no added
inflection (such forms are frequently used after the so called infinitive particle to) Infinitive clauses
can have a range of syntactic roles a subject (20): The best thing would be for you to tell everybody. b
without subject (21): The best thing would be to tell everybody. c Direct object (22): He upset you
very much, and I hate to see that. (Quirk, Greenbaum, Geoffrey, Svartik, 1985)

Definition Essay On Honesty
Best selling author and podcaster James Altucher once said Honesty is the fastest way to prevent a
mistake turning into a failure (Altucher). What Altucher was saying is, honesty is a great help in
pulling you out of bad situations before they can turn even worse in your life. There are many ways
for honesty to work out positively in our lives, it can show a sense of trust within yourself or others
you come in contact with. Honesty is also a big part of our lives in our wider culture by being able to
express opinions towards various subjects. There are many ways where there is honesty in what goes
on in our lives, in television, writing, and everyday conversations. Being honest can be seen as an
award for telling the truth and not hiding it. It also promoted a sense of trust between you and the
people around you to show that you are a person of your word. Honesty is also to show self
improvement, that you are able to be honest with yourself and the decisions you make and on up to
them. Dishonesty can also lead to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Oxford English Dictionary defines honesty as honour gained by action or conduct , when I am
honest I gain respect and attention by how I handled myself. When talking to my peers or adults in my
family or school, I make it essential that I make sure I show and tell the real version of myself, not
someone that only acts a certain way because of who I am talking to. When I have been honest I
developed great relationships with the teachers of my high school and now the professors at my
university. I am able to express opinions towards them that others may not want to share with the
adults in their life. Honesty can leave out any misunderstandings people will have about me and it will
help me be able to get out of bad situations, or prevent bad situations from happening. Also, I will be
able to see a change within myself once I express

Oliver Sacks is a very famous doctor of neurology as well as a writer. He spent most of his adult life
treating patients. Oliver Sacks mostly concentrated on disorders of the brain and nervous system. In a
lot of the cases that Sacks dealt with, there was nothing he was able to do to heal the patients. His goal
was to find a way to live with and accept their condition as well as possible. Sacks enjoyed dealing
with cases mostly about experiences of real people struggling to live with unusual conditions. That s
where he wanted to find ways to help these patients to the best of his and medical ability out there.

Sacks tried to get to know his clients by spending time with them out of his work schedule. Oliver
Sacks discovers individuals by doing activities with them. He would try to study each case in each
unique way. He took his patients to concerts where he was able to see how they react in different
circumstance and what part of brain they were mostly using. He would note that some memory would
be there for a certain amount of time and then they would go back to their own ways. For example, in
the story of the Last Hippie , Greg would become a different person when he was around music or you
talked to him about certain musicians. That was Greg s passion and the only thing that changed and
altered his mood. Although, once some time passed and music was no where around, Greg went back
to his grumpy old self. He would be in his own little world. He would act very strangely around
people. Greg would also make no sense when you were having a conversation with him. The people
that Sacks studies are both patients and subjects to him I believe. In one perspective when he has a
case that he studies it can be classified as a subject because he has so many cases that he studies and
observes patients in. Although, on the other hand it can be classified to him as patients because he
actually cares about each and every one of them and tries to hang out and spend extra time with them.

Short Story Monologue
Despite the speed demons driving, I had a fantastic time with my new friends. After exerting our
energy from walking around the mall, we stopped for a late lunch, before watching a movie together,
and headed back home. John invited me back to his apartment, yet I felt apprehensive at the idea of
being alone with him in his domain. Thank you, once again for taking me, I say as I exit the car.
Thanks for coming out with us, says Patsy. This time, I wait by the building door and wave them
goodbye before heading inside. As I skip my way up the stairs, ready to recap my day to Alice, my
phone shrills, causing me to pause just before my front door to retrieve it. Hey, Alice. Hi Eva, I m just

However, it dissipates soon after, leaving Alice s door intact. Invisible bands tighten around my chest,

somewhat regretting John s invitation. As I manage to calm myself, allowing my thoughts to run
clearer, I realise the stupidity of spending the evening with John, enduring his lingering stares,
considering I m far from ready to attempt a relationship with anyone right now, what with my
wretched heart set on Angelo. Inside my bedroom, I remove my winter accessories and leather coat,
tossing them on the bed beside my bag and phone, and peer into my washing basket. There isn t much
in there, not enough for a full load, nevertheless, it will take my mind off of Alice and Angelo for a
while. I heft my washing basket and head down to the basement where the washers and dryers live.
No one knows who began the rule, nevertheless, the unwritten rule is for everyone in the building to
add money to the kitty for the machine s service and purchase of the washing powder and dryer sheets.
I plunge my hand into my jeans pocket and dig out the loose change hidden within. Seventy one cents,
not much, but at least it s something. The cool, dimly lit basement remains just as neglected as the rest
of the building. Cobwebs, long since abandoned by

Overview of Key Evidence of the Prosecution
Richard Scrushy, former Chief Executive Officer of HEALTHSOUTH Corporation, was ultimately
charged with one count of conspiracy, ten counts of money laundering, thirteen counts of wire fraud,
seven counts of mail fraud, two counts of securities fraud and lying to United States investigators, two
counts of falsifying statements, and one count of falsifying certifications. The charge of securities
fraud led to a probe of possible insider trading in his sales of HEALTHSOUTH stock. There is
evidence which supports that HEALTHSOUTH S administration began fraudulently cooking the
books in the mid 1990s in an effort to build a sophisticated corporate Empire by:
· defrauding the system of payment (Medicare),
· increasing returns by playing on the vulnerability of citizens through over servicing and
overcharging,
· cutting the costs of care by understaffing, under resourcing and under servicing, or
· by a combination of any two or more of these.
Human and financial resources were diverted from healthcare to marketing, to provide funding
sources for HEALTHSOUTH to be competitive in the healthcare arena. Reallocating financial
resources also provided HEALTHSOUTH with adequate funding for political donations, which is said

Four Period School Day Controversy
After a schedule change, students and teachers have been having controversy about a four period and
eight period school day. After two years of the new schedule, although calmed down somewhat, the
controversy continues. An eight period school day (traditional schedule) seems to be far outweighed
by a four period school day (block schedule). A four period school day provides academic,
educational, and emotional benefits when compared to an eight period school day. A typical eight
period school day would have eight forty seven minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and
five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A typical four period school
day would have four ninety two minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and seven minutes
between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of August to around the
middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end of May. At Preston
High School students and teachers were surveyed on stress levels from each schedule. They were also
surveyed on which schedule they thought was more effective for learning. A consensus between all of
the students and teachers agreed that the block schedule was more effective for learning (8). They also
all agreed that an eight period day proved significantly more stressful when compared to their amount
of stress in a four period day (8). A block schedule is very beneficial if it is properly implemented.

Physics of Mining Essay
Mining is a necessary component of the world we live in and it has been practiced for thousands of
years. The mining industry produces billions of tons of raw product every year. The process of mining
is very complicated and involves plenty of physics! Two main components of the mine cycle are:
Drilling, and Blasting. Some important factors in mining are the pillars, rock elasticity, and the slope
stability of the ground being mined.
A basic method for destroying rock is mechanically induced stress, such as drills and erosion jets. A
turbine drill for example, uses a turbine to rotate a diamond faced cutter wheel. The power output, p,
can be calculated using the equation p=2 πNT where N is the rotational speed of the turbine and T is ...

It is normal for these shearers to have up to 1 megawatt of power!
Blasting is used in mining to break up rock or create space. Explosives are placed in a blasting hole
and then detonated. The velocity of the detonation of the explosives are enormous. The detonation of a
common explosive such as ANFO (an agent consisting of ammonium nitrate prills and fuel oil) can
reach velocities of 5,000 m/s in a 375 mm blasting hole. Blasting is very dangerous because it
produces fragments of rock moving at high speeds called flyrock. There have been cases of flyrock
weighing up to 500 kg being projected almost a full kilometer!
It is often necessary for miners to take into account the resistance of rock bodies to compression and
distortion when placed under stress. The ability of a body to resist forces is determined by elasticity.
The three moduli of elasticity are:
Young s Modulus: E= (Applied force/Area) / (Change in length/original length)
Shear Modulus: G= (Applied force/unit area) / (Angular deformation)
Bulk Modulus K= (Force/unit area) / (Change in volume/unit volume)
Young s Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist elongation or shortening.
Shear Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist a change in shape.
Bulk Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist a change in volume.
Slope stability is important when a judgment is needed

314663 (Mich Ct App June 24, 2014), the Michigan Court of Appeals held:
The Association contends that the prelitigation approval provision would deny [it] the right to even
defend itself in any litigation brought by anyone for any purpose. This interpretation is incorrect. The
provision does not preclude the Association from defending itself in the face of a lawsuit. Rather, it
sets a condition under which the Association may act on behalf of the owners for the purpose of
litigation. A vote could be conducted to spend money on a defense should the Association be sued, or
the owners could choose to default, just like any other defendant is free to choose.
However, as indicated above, this is not really a choice as an association does not have realistic
chance of being able to take the necessary action to respond to the complaint in such a short time
period. By way of example, if a one hundred (100) unit association is sued for $1,000,000. The
association has twenty one (21) days to file an answer, but fails to either a) find a location and/or
schedule a meeting in time or b) holds the meeting, but cannot obtain a quorum of members. The
twenty one (21) days elapses and the circuit court clerk enters a default against the association. Each
co owner would be forced to pay $10,000 to satisfy the default judgment merely because the board of
directors was prevented from hiring an attorney to defend the lawsuit. Accordingly, HB 4446 would
prevent these types of situations from taking place and provide the board of directors of a
condominium association with authority to defend a

Growing Interest of Business Ethics

There is an augmented interest in the business ethics for the past ten years. This escalating interest and
desire to understand better ethical performance and decision making led to the development of many

Many models concerning these concepts refers that ethical environment in effected by the individual

More comprehensive and complex evaluation of the scales measuring ethical acuity was presented by
Vitell and Ho (1997). Just not liking a product and service would not be considered unethical. E.g. if

had misleading promises that convenient parking lot will always be available. Different corporate

Heavenly Treasures Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee,

Atticus not only treats his family with fairness, but his friends and neighbors as well. An African
American man in their community has been accused of a rape crime. Atticus feels strongly that the
man s innocence will prevail. Since Atticus is a lawyer, he decides he must do the right thing. He must
defend the accused. Known by many as a kind, impartial, and respectful man, Atticus earns a good
name in his small community. No matter the person, Atticus always treated people with kindness. A
neighbor of the Finchs, Mrs. Dubose, spoke harshly to Atticus as well as to his children, Jem and

Therefore, he chose to treat her with kindness. Easy does it, son, Atticus would say. She s an old lady

The Crucible And 12 Angry Men Analysis
The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) share many similarities between them, particularly
in the themes they convey throughout the texts. Justice and prejudice are the main ideas presented in
both texts, however the setting and outcomes differ significantly between the two, providing a
different insight in each text. Both authors, Miller and Lumet, present relevant issues in the context of
the 1950s that both texts were written. The similar social condition of America that the two texts were
published in is a likely factor as to why the two texts have similar motifs presented throughout. Both
The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) are about justice. The two texts feature important
scenes involving a trial where the fate of a character s life rests in the hands of other people. However,
the two texts have very different final outcomes. In both texts, the main protagonists argue against the
majority, despite the backlash that they receive. Proctor speaks out in The Crucible after learning
about the lies that Abigail and her friends are telling that have caused the imprisonment of members of
the town and are even threatening their lives. Proctor takes a considerable risk by arguing against the
witchcraft, especially in the Puritan society where religion is how the town is governed. His decision
inevitably backfires on him and begins the series of events that lead to his execution. On the other
hand, Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men goes against the majority as he sees the boys poor upbringing,
his less than fair state appointed defence attorney and the jury s almost immediate unanimous decision
to convict him, unjust and believes he deserves a better chance. Unlike Proctor, Juror #8 speaking out
against the other men results in justice for the accused who walks away with his life. Justice in the two
texts is represented considerably differently to each other. In The Crucible it is evident that Abigail
and her friends are in the wrong, condemning people to be death by lying and accusing the town
members of Witchcraft, and therefore Proctor attempting to expose them for their dishonesty and bring
justice to those who had been wrongfully accused, which included his wife, was a brave and noble

Summary
The Notebook (2004), is a deeply powerful and moving film about the undying love between a man
and woman through the telling of their story of love and loss. Duke, a resident in a nursing home reads
to a fellow resident, an old woman with Alzheimer s, the love story of Allie Hamilton and Noah

the advancement of her illness, Allie had written their love story in a notebook and told Noah to read it
to her so that she would keep coming back to him . Through the sharing of their personal experiences
of love and grief along with the experiences of other characters, viewers are able to critically reflect
on their own life experiences of love and loss and the different ways in which these experiences have

daily life, there are tens of thousands businesses among us, but I have never thought about what makes
those business exits, what aims they are trying to achieve and what kind of business they are. When
thinking of social enterprise, I feel interested in how they run the business in a long term if it is not
profit driven, and how they maintain the daily operation with perhaps very little social capital
investment. My understanding of this module built upon everyday readings, seminar preparations and
workshops, as well as group discussions, Gregson Centre s visit and learning packs of various social
concepts from different groups day by day.
What gave me the deep impressions at first is the three system of economy model proposed by Pearce
(2003). The diagram is totally new to me but it is not that hard to understand. The diagram divides the
economy into three systems and each of which can be seen to be based on deferent principles and
values. Each system is about a different way of managing the economy. The first system can be
referred to as the private sector, it is profit driven and their principle is to maximize returns for private
shareholders. The first system operates through the free marketplace, meeting needs through the
production of goods and the provision of services by companies. The second system can be
conventionally referred to as the public sector. It is

Article On Data Mining With Big Data
Critique 1
Submission by
Jyothikiran Nandanamudi (Class ID: 25)
Ashok Yaganti (Class ID: 46)
Article: Data Mining with Big Data (Paper 1) This paper addresses the complications being faced by
Big Data because of increase in the volume, complexity of data and due to multiple sources, which
produces large number of data sets. With the increase of big data in different fields like medicine,
media, social networking etc., there is a need for better processing model which can access the data at
the rate at which the data increases. This paper proposed a processing model, HACE theorem which
can address the characteristics of the elements of Big Data revolution.
Overview and procedures: The author started with few examples, stating how ... Show more content

Here in the paper the authors mentioned about the privacy issues and then some dependency issues
from social networking sites which shows a need for understanding both semantics and knowledge
from applications for processing of Big Data with the use of Big Data mining algorithms in the form
of three tiers. In the later part of the paper the author discussed about the challenges faced by Big Data
in the three tiers as difficulty in accessing the data in terms of storage and computing, gaining
knowledge by understanding semantics and how privacy can be achieved and how the overall
optimization can be obtained. These challenges made the authors to develop many data mining
methods which explains the convoluted relationships of evolving data.
Strengths and Limitations: The introduction part is very clearly explained showing how Big Data can
be used and what are the main challenges being faced today due to volume, autonomous, complexity
and heterogeneity of data, but drawing the conclusion from the examples mentioned is
incomprehensible. The processing framework is conveniently illustrated in three tiers but pipelining of
these tiers with a comprehensible example would make the paper more satisfactory. The authors tried
to drag the explanation of three tier system rather than being concise. The article lags in exhibiting
scientific facts about the functionality of this HACE theorem based Big Data Processing framework.
The initiative took by authors in terms of

Essay On Determinism Vs Free Will
The Determined Will of Man Freedom and power are luxuries all humans desire. Since the dawn of
humanity, man struggled and persevered through nature s unforgiving vicissitudes, but emerged
fervently from them with the stern intent of actuating his ever evolving desires. The debate between
determinism and free will has raged since antiquity, and the main difference between them lies in an
element of control; the one outer and the other inner, respectively. Determinism is the philosophical
idea that every event or state of affairs, including every human decision and action, is the inevitable
and necessary consequence of antecedent states of affairs. Free will, on the other hand, is the power of
acting without the constraint of necessity or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human desire can only be expressed effectively through the attainment of power, provided it is
desired; therefore, human action is determined by desire. Altruism is acting with an unselfish regard
for others. Cooperative behavior enabled our ancestors to further enhance their survivability under
harsh conditions, which clarifies the notion that when we make the effort to give without expectations
of reciprocity, we feel fulfilled and energized. The previous sentence hinges upon the illicit negative
fallacy, which is an argument whose conclusion of a standard form is affirmative, but at least one of
the premises is negative. If the effort to give without expectations of reciprocity is true, then the
expected feeling of fulfilment and energy mustn t be felt in order for the statement to be considered
cogent; however, it was maintained that it was felt; therefore, the statement is fallacious. Thence, from
the example provided, it can be concluded that altruism is nonexistent. Altruism and free will are
mutually inclusive; if altruism is nonexistent, then free will is also nonexistent. Actions which spring
from internal control are guided by free will; those which spring from external forces are guided by
determinism. Desire is a constituent part of human nature, which necessitates actions whose ends are
directed toward benefiting the director. Since our actions are determined by our desires in all cases,
free will cannot possibly exist, because if it were to exist, our actions could be directed toward ends

Latin America and the Catholic Church Essay
Running head: LATIN AMERICAAND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
xxxx
HUMN xxx xxxx February 11, 2011
In 1983, Pope John Paul II visited Nicaragua in response to word that a growing alliance between
priests and Marxists revolutionaries was emerging in Latin America. Historically, the Catholic Church
in Europe had taken a strong anti communist stance. And so the emerging alliance troubled Pope John
Paul II despite the fact that priests claimed they were simply doing what Christ would do in
championing the interests of the poor.
When news began spreading throughout Nicaragua that Pope John Paul II would be visiting, the
reform minded Catholics of the country became hopeful that the pope would somehow lend his
support to the revolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6). But liberation theology, according to conservative critics, is a type of socialist Christianity. Its
philosophical underpinnings suggest that change comes through political activism and even war and
revolution if peaceful means have failed. In addition, liberation theologians view sin as the root of
poverty and capitalism as the most ruinous form of sin on earth. Thus, Liberation Theologists argue
that capitalism should be confronted as pure evil and replaced by a more just and equitable socialist
system. The Pope unequivocally denounced these ideas as ideologically misguided. Many Nicaraguan
Catholics were disappointed with the Pope s position on political action because they felt like he
missed a chance to bolster the revolution and support much needed change for the people. They had
lived under years of tyranny and oppression at the hands of the conservative regime. And thousands of
innocent Nicaraguan citizens had suffered gross social injustices and even death at the hands of their
oppressors. If the Pope had supported their revolutionary cause, the people would have enjoyed the
backing of the Catholic Church. And if that had occurred, it would have provided the people with a
sense of spiritual support in their fight for freedom and equality. But the Pope s denouncement of
Liberation Theology and the

Classification Essay About Friends
Friends come in all types of personalities, some of which to be aware. There are shy friends, rude
friends, giving friends, taking friends, busy friends, always free friends, best friends, and of course
frenemies. Not all may appeal to everyone but everyone plays a role as some type of friend. A friend
could not only be a person, but a pet. In some cases a person s only friend is an animal or pet of some
kind. Belongings such as dolls or figurines can also be considered someone s friend. Friends come in
all different forms. For most a friend is considered an acquaintance of some sort. There are different
ways of meeting them and different time lengths of when they become considered friends.
Usually a best friend or frenemy is someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For others is could simply mean they are socially awkward and just don t communicate well. The
opposite of shy would be loud and rude. These friends fall into a few different categories as well.
Some are more tolerable than others. For loud mouths that like to show off their talent in public could
lead to embarrassment, not only for the other friends but for themselves. Usually, but not always, loud
mouth are also closely associated with being rude. Being rude isn t the best characteristic to have, but
for some friends it is just a minor detail to what their friendship really has to offer. Rude friends often
think they are coming off as funny and entertaining, but in reality they don t fully know how they
could be hurting the other person they are being rude to. Some rude friends could care less if they hurt
others feelings at the extent to be funny and possibly gain more friends or popularity. These types of
friends are usually found in the much younger crowd, but once in a while one can slip through to
adulthood. The ones that do get by usually don t have many friends at this point because all their other
friends have found respect and have grown up. These friends could have underlying issues, and most
likely suffer in their professional careers, which leaves them more time to be rude. Those types of
friends would fall under another category also. There are the busy friends and

The Influence Of Photography On American Culture
Art is not to be found by touring to Egypt, China, or Peru; if you cannot find it at your own door, you
will never find it. Ralph Waldo Emerson . Although many might think that it is a waste of time and
money, photography is a great hobby that people should try. However, even if someone has different
opinions, they must consider that photography is steadily on its way to becoming a worldwide
everyday use, and is already part of the American culture. Who has contributed to the making of the
modern camera in earlier times? In ancient times, at approximately 5th century B.C., the beginning of
the camera was the use of a camera obscura, Greek meaning Dark room. A camera obscura is a dark
room that has a small hole in a wall or other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in 1727, a professor by the name of J. Schulze made the first known photosensitive
compound . J. Schulze mixed chalk, nitric acid, and silver in a flask, and then noticed how the mixture
darkened on the side exposed to the most light, accidentally creating the first photographic compound.
Later, in 1800, Thomas Wedgewood made what he called sun pictures by placing objects on a piece of
leather treated with silver nitrate, which were the first photographs, although they faded and
deteriorated if exposed to much light. In 1816, Nicéphore Niépce combined the photosensitive paper
with the camera obscura, which after multiple tries and multiple years, created a permanent image on
the paper. In 1834, Henry Fox Talbot created a permanent image using paper soaked in silver chloride
and fixed with a salt solution, which was an image negative. Talbot could make a positive image by
contact printing the image onto another sheet of paper . There were many advancements to the
photosensitive paper, as it started to be explored by more and more scientists and other people. Who
has contributed to the modern camera from the 1850 s to the present day? In more recent times, the
ideas that were built together to become a camera were compounded more rapidly. In 1851, Frederick
Scott Archer, who was a sculptor from London, improved

Army Musket
Throughout history the United States Army has undergone a plethora of changes. Since its inception in
1776 ever this has evolved from personnel, to rank structure, even the uniforms but the one piece of
equipment that has seen the most change has been the weaponry; more specifically the small arms
issued to individual soldiers. Small arms used by American forces in the Revolution were many and
varied, however at the beginning of the war the British Short Land Service Musket, often referred to
as the Brown Bess, was perhaps the most common musket on hand. In 1777, the French allied
themselves with the American cause and began sending arms and equipment. After the revolutionary
War the Army transitioned to The U.S. Musket Model 1795 this rifle ... Show more content on

The next big improvement came in 1964 with the adoption of the M16. The M16 was ordered as a
replacement for the M14 at the direction of Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara over the objection
of the Army. However from the beginning the M16 showed a lot of problems When the M16 reached
Vietnam, reports of jamming and malfunctions in combat immediately began to surface. Some
additional improvements were made but the rifle s reputation continued to suffer. Moreover,
complaints about the inadequate penetration and stopping power of the 5.56mm cartridge persisted
throughout the conflict. In the mid 1980s the army transitioned into a rifle still in use today the
M16A2. The M16A2 was technologically advanced in many ways the most specific being the select
fire capability. A select fire rifle capable of semi automatic fire or three round bursts. The burst fire
mechanism utilized a three part automatic sear that fires up to three rounds for each pull of the trigger
A combination of the M16A4 and M4 Carbine continued to replace existing M16A2 Rifles used by
the Army. However the M16A2 still remains in

White Privilege And White Skin Privilege
2
Privilege refers to the unearned advantages enjoyed by a particular group simply because of
membership in that group. Privileges accrue to those who (consciously or not) oppress others and are
generally invisible to those who enjoy them (Swigonski, M.E. 1996). Having that in mind my position
on white privilege (or white skin privilege) which can also be called the huge pink elephant in the
room. Society (especially now) believe that America have advanced past racism when in all actuality
we still have a long way to go. People in our society can go through life without knowing about white
privilege or realizing they themselves, may have this privilege. The white or lighter skin color of a
person has automatic benefits, right from birth, them not ever having to do anything to attain this
privilege. The consequences are mostly good and outweigh the bad, for the ones that have white
privilege. However, skin that is not white has far more injustices, they are oppressed and they are the
ones that suffer, not having this same privilege (King, M.T. 2009). I do believe the only difference
between racism and 2016 as compared to 1960 is the law civil laws enacted caused white Americans
to construct more subtle ways of displaying racist behaviours. In doing this assignment not only did I
read what the author stated about white

My basic study of bullion and specifically of gold amp; silver led me to the fact that though India is
the largest consumer of gold amp; silver. India largely has unorganized gold market. The government
policies regarding the same have also changed considerably over the years. From being a restrictive
trade, now it has been opened up after the recommendation of the Tarapore Committee. Gold itself has
a mass appeal in all the countries of the world and thus its prices are always under notice.
Whole commodity market is divided into two broad categories those are agriculture commodities and
non agriculture commodities. Agriculture commodities include wheat, rice, pulses, cereals, edible oils,
ground nut etc. Non agriculture commodities includes crude oil, non ferrous metals like gold, silver,
nickel, copper etc.
I have mainly focused upon the commodity gold amp; silver. What are the essential features of gold
amp; silver as a precious metal and as a commodity?
This session would broadly deal with Gold amp; Silver as a commodity, its Production, Demand amp;

Pain can arise from our feelings being hurt to damage being caused to our body. • 3. Literature Analysis Essay MBA633 : Managing Human Resources 1. What figure will Cal Jenson report to Fred Donofrio for the amount that absenteeism cost ONO last year? Answer: Using figure 2 5 on page 52 Cal must compute the total employees hours lost due to absenteeism for the period. ONO lost a total of 539 hours of labor because of absenteeism. Second Cal must compute the weighted average wage or salary totals to $23.50 an hour for an average salary of $47,000. Third one must compute the cost of employee benefits for ONO employees is an additional 33%. Because absent employees are paid Cal must take the compensation lost/hour/absent employee = wage/salary + benefits. Therefore 1.5/539/11=47,000 + 33% = (2.99 or 3). When I worked retail I saw this first hand with black Friday. We scheduled everyone that day and if it was to many people we would send those who wanted to go home early home. Because the money made on black Friday was almost three or four times higher than a normal day it didn t matter our employees hours for the day. 3. What recommendations for action could Cal Jenson make to Fred Donofrio? Answer: The first recommendation Cal should suggest is lowering the amount of sick days. Because 12 is 2 ½ weeks a year and the average American uses 2.3 percent of scheduled work time, or an average of 5.5 unscheduled absences per year (F.Cascio, 2013), they could try cutting paid sick days to 10. If that works and numbers lower then leave it ten for a few years and lower it even more. Secondly Cal should recommend that Fred pull the reports for the prior year and see the days that had the highest earnings. Make sure those days you schedule an extra person. Because employees are salary it doesn t matter if they work 2 hours or 8 for the day. Schedule a extra person just incase someone calls out and if they are not needed send them home. India has witnessed many scams over the years, and the number keeps increasing by the day. It is most commonly the chief ministers, state and central ministers and members of various political parties who are often reported for their involvement in scams. This article presents a descriptive and exploratory analysis of informal money transfer relating to one such infamous case of Bihar Fodder Scam . The article also delves into the core ethical issues involved, and the best way for the concerned government bodies to respond to such cases of corruption in order to reduce such misconducts. The World Bank defines corruption as the abuse of public power for private benefit (Worldbank, 1997). The Animal Husbandry Scam a.k.a the Fodder Scam, is a clear example of this definition. The case in question is a consequence of the incessant greed of politicians for money and power. Thus clearly shows how Gurov s character changes from being a selfish womanizer in to a real time Romeo. As a matter of fact the critics did not only argue the behavioral or emotional changes of the character, but also they discussed what significant event or action leads the characters to the change. Simran Jandu Mr. Crawford English 40S November 11, 2016 Portrayal of Ophelia in the two film versions of Hamlet Hamlet is an acknowledging Shakespearean play that was later filmed in 1990 by Franco Zeffirelli and in 1996 by Kenneth Branagh. Both these directors interpret the play differently adding unique twists and turns of their own to help focus on one thing than the other. In their contrasting films, these two directors depict the character of Ophelia very differently. Through Zeffirelli s film, Ophelia, played by Helena Bonham Carter is portrayed as a dreamy, naive, childish character, however in Branagh s version; Kate Winslet portrays Ophelia as a more mature, sensible and strong willed character. These different portrayals of Ophelia can be further analyzed through cinematography, set and costume designs and through the actor themselves. Firstly, the different interpretation of Ophelia is shown through the cinematography of the two films. Cinematography refers to the camera movement and angles. Zeffirelli chooses to make many of Ophelia s shots filmed from above, reinforcing Ophelia s character small helpless and under control. Whereas in Branagh s most of the scenes of are front, eye level shots. These shots show Ophelia like anyone else in the movie. Another difference in shots can be seen in the mad scene part, when Ophelia goes mad after the death of Polonius, her father. • 15. Wallace, Gamelyn And Robin Hood Analysis The stories of Wallace, Gamelyn, and Robin Hood are medieval legends written by Maurice Keen in The Outlaws of Medieval Legend. Keen depicts the popular legends of medieval heroes who became outlaws during the thirteenth to fifteen centuries. He also defines the term outlaw, which is, a person who puts himself outside the protection of the law. What their attitudes and why were these outlaws worshiped as heroes? The reason varies in each story. Keen maintains the main theme of outlawry. Wallace, Gamelyn, and Robin Hood all have negative attitudes toward both secular and religious authorities, as they fight against tyrants and oppression to become heroes of medieval people. The first outlaw legend of Wallace shows that he had attitudes of racial hatred toward the English and different opinions with Scottish aristocracies, but there is no sufficient evidence of his action against religious people. Wallace was a patriotic warrior and a leader of the Scottish rebellion that sought independence from English tyranny. Keen (2000) claims Scottish people suffered the behaviors and barbaric actions of English soldiers (p. 66). With Wallace, the sheriff of Lanark murdered his beloved lady, Marion Bradfute, and this unreasonable cruel toward innocent people ignited his anger and hatred. He killed the sheriff of Lanark and became an outlaw afterward. Wallace disagreed with Scottish aristocracies, who held lands in England, to compromise with the conqueror Edward I. Therefore, the pure phase of mixed metal oxides and its supported form were prepared from the precursors and the selected support to overcome the limitations of individual metal oxides. The characteristics of individual metal oxides can be retained or even enhanced by mixing of appropriate individual oxides for CLC application in terms of multi cycle CLC performance (cost, activity, stability, mechanical strength, reduction in carbon deposition, etc.). The mixed oxide of Fe and Mn has been developed in our lab as a possible candidate for CLC. Fe Mn mixed oxide possesses the promise as oxygen carrier for the CLC applications due to availability of low cost minerals precursors, relatively high OCC, stability and environmentally benign nature. • 20. Monk Warriors from the Heian Period While many individual monk warriors are still recognized from the Heian period in Japan, the most notorious amongst them all in Japanese records and literature is Shinjitsu. Regarded as Japan s number one evil martial monk, 1 Shinjitsu comes across as more of an akuso (evil monk) than the ultimate representation of the greedy and violent sōhei 2 that previous interpretations and literature make him out to be. In his book The Teeth and Claws of Buddha, Mikael S. Adolphson attempts to better classify Shinjitsu as the monk commander and warrior administrator he was, and it is this new interpretation that makes him so important. Shinjitsu, in historical records, was less likely to use his monastic position than use his ties in the imperial court and with other nobility to assert his control, and was in fact involved in the first event of the imperial court calling for help from monastic troops. Born in 1086, Shinjitsu belonged to a branch of the Minamoto clan, the Seiwa Genji, who were renowned for their military services and accomplishments. After Shinjitsu s ancestor Minamoto no Mitsunaka helped the Fujiwara clan strengthen their position in the imperial court, members from their branch of the Minamoto family were called the teeth and claws of the Fujiwara. 3 Shinjitsu s grandfather and father (Yoriyasu) followed in this tradition, and Shinjitsu seems to have picked up traits from both of them, two of which are made obvious through the historical records concerning him. ... • 22. Symbolism In La Inferno For centuries writers have used symbolism in literature to garner the attention of readers. One of the finest examples of this is La Comedia or The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Critics, in particular, recognize the first canticle of the comedy, The Inferno, as an unequivocal masterpiece of visual and allegorical imagery. Dante very skillfully weaves figurative language with tangible physical descriptions to achieve an unparalleled poetic work that continues to have immeasurable influence on western literature to this day. Every aspect of The Inferno is gravid with endless symbolism specifically referencing mankind s sins and the subsequent retributions dealt to those who commit them by a wrathful God. This accords Dante s poetic work with its iconic complexity and attaches deeper meaning to his adventurous journey through hell. The Divine Comedy in its entirety is nothing but a parable into the spiritual journey of human life. In Canto 1, Dante, the protagonist, in the middle years of his life, tries to navigate his way out of a dark and scary forest in search of light. Dante uses the dark forest as a metaphor for sin, and the light he seeks as God in heaven. As he attempts to get through the forest he is confronted by three beasts. He describes the encounters as I faced a spotted Leopard,...../And it would not pass... (1:33 34), ... great Lion that broke upon me/ raging with hunger... (1:44 45), and ... a She Wolf drove upon me, ...starved horror/ ravening and wasted. (1:48 49). These three beasts the Leopard, the Lion, and the She Wolf, by virtue of their salient characteristics, symbolize the three different categories of sins malice and fraud, violence and pride, and greed and lust, respectively. The leopard, with its spotted pelt, is considered a master of disguise, biding its time to strike down prey at the most optimal moment; akin to a malicious person who often presents himself respectably and hides his true motives. The lion is known to satisfy his individual needs through violence and aggression and is thus able to establish himself as the top predator in the food chain. They are more compact and less explicit than finite clauses. They are not marked for tense and modality, and they frequently lack an explicit subject and subordinator. (17): I don t know what to write about. 3.1.1 Types of non finite clauses 1 Bare infinitive Bare infinitive is the base form of the verb without to, this form of nonfinite clause has no tense. The bare infinitive in general is very limited because it mostly occurs after verbs of causation, perception and modal auxiliary. (18): I saw Jim leave. (See is a verb of perception) (19): I can tell the truth. (Telling the truth is what occurs after modal auxiliary. Bare infinitive in this case, functions as the complement of a verb, that is , it adds more information to make the main verb understandable. (Biber, Johansson, Leech, Conrad, Finegan, 1999). 2 Infinitive clauses Uninflected infinitive forms which comprise simply the base or stem of the verb with no added inflection (such forms are frequently used after the so called infinitive particle to) Infinitive clauses can have a range of syntactic roles a subject (20): The best thing would be for you to tell everybody. b without subject (21): The best thing would be to tell everybody. c Direct object (22): He upset you very much, and I hate to see that. • 26. Definition Essay On Honesty Best selling author and podcaster James Altucher once said Honesty is the fastest way to prevent a mistake turning into a failure (Altucher). What Altucher was saying is, honesty is a great help in pulling you out of bad situations before they can turn even worse in your life. There are many ways for honesty to work out positively in our lives, it can show a sense of trust within yourself or others you come in contact with. Honesty is also a big part of our lives in our wider culture by being able to express opinions towards various subjects. There are many ways where there is honesty in what goes on in our lives, in television, writing, and everyday conversations. Being honest can be seen as an award for telling the truth and not hiding it. It also promoted a sense of trust between you and the people around you to show that you are a person of your word. When I have been honest I developed great relationships with the teachers of my high school and now the professors at my university. I am able to express opinions towards them that others may not want to share with the adults in their life. For example, in the story of the Last Hippie , Greg would become a different person when he was around music or you talked to him about certain musicians. After exerting our energy from walking around the mall, we stopped for a late lunch, before watching a movie together, and headed back home. After two years of the new schedule, although calmed down somewhat, the controversy continues. An eight period school day (traditional schedule) seems to be far outweighed by a four period school day (block schedule). A four period school day provides academic, educational, and emotional benefits when compared to an eight period school day. A typical eight period school day would have eight forty seven minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A typical four period school day would have four ninety two minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and seven minutes between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of August to around the middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end of May. At Preston High School students and teachers were surveyed on stress levels from each schedule. They were also surveyed on which schedule they thought was more effective for learning. A consensus between all of the students and teachers agreed that the block schedule was more effective for learning (8). The mining industry produces billions of tons of raw product every year. The process of mining is very complicated and involves plenty of physics! Two main components of the mine cycle are: Drilling, and Blasting. Some important factors in mining are the pillars, rock elasticity, and the slope stability of the ground being mined. A basic method for destroying rock is mechanically induced stress, such as drills and erosion jets. A turbine drill for example, uses a turbine to rotate a diamond faced cutter wheel. The power output, p, can be calculated using the equation p=2 πNT where N is the rotational speed of the turbine and T is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is normal for these shearers to have up to 1 megawatt of power! Blasting is used in mining to break up rock or create space. Explosives are placed in a blasting hole and then detonated. The velocity of the detonation of the explosives are enormous. The detonation of a common explosive such as ANFO (an agent consisting of ammonium nitrate prills and fuel oil) can reach velocities of 5,000 m/s in a 375 mm blasting hole. Blasting is very dangerous because it produces fragments of rock moving at high speeds called flyrock. There have been cases of flyrock weighing up to 500 kg being projected almost a full kilometer! It is often necessary for miners to take into account the resistance of rock bodies to compression and distortion when placed under stress. The ability of a body to resist forces is determined by elasticity. The three moduli of elasticity are: Young s Modulus: E= (Applied force/Area) / (Change in length/original length) Shear Modulus: G= (Applied force/unit area) / (Angular deformation) Bulk Modulus K= (Force/unit area) / (Change in volume/unit volume) Young s Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist elongation or shortening. Shear Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist a change in shape. Bulk Modulus measures the ability of a body to resist a change in volume. This interpretation is incorrect. The provision does not preclude the Association from defending itself in the face of a lawsuit. Rather, it sets a condition under which the Association may act on behalf of the owners for the purpose of litigation. A vote could be conducted to spend money on a defense should the Association be sued, or the owners could choose to default, just like any other defendant is free to choose. However, as indicated above, this is not really a choice as an association does not have realistic chance of being able to take the necessary action to respond to the complaint in such a short time period. By way of example, if a one hundred (100) unit association is sued for $1,000,000. The association has twenty one (21) days to file an answer, but fails to either a) find a location and/or schedule a meeting in time or b) holds the meeting, but cannot obtain a quorum of members. The twenty one (21) days elapses and the circuit court clerk enters a default against the association. Each co owner would be forced to pay $10,000 to satisfy the default judgment merely because the board of directors was prevented from hiring an attorney to defend the lawsuit. • 38. The Crucible And 12 Angry Men Analysis The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) share many similarities between them, particularly in the themes they convey throughout the texts. Justice and prejudice are the main ideas presented in both texts, however the setting and outcomes differ significantly between the two, providing a different insight in each text. Both authors, Miller and Lumet, present relevant issues in the context of the 1950s that both texts were written. The similar social condition of America that the two texts were published in is a likely factor as to why the two texts have similar motifs presented throughout. Both The Crucible and Twelve Angry Men (1957 film) are about justice. The two texts feature important scenes involving a trial where the fate of a character s life rests in the hands of other people. However, the two texts have very different final outcomes. In both texts, the main protagonists argue against the majority, despite the backlash that they receive. Proctor speaks out in The Crucible after learning about the lies that Abigail and her friends are telling that have caused the imprisonment of members of the town and are even threatening their lives. Proctor takes a considerable risk by arguing against the witchcraft, especially in the Puritan society where religion is how the town is governed. His decision inevitably backfires on him and begins the series of events that lead to his execution. On the other hand, Juror #8 in Twelve Angry Men goes against the majority as he sees the boys poor upbringing, his less than fair state appointed defence attorney and the jury s almost immediate unanimous decision to convict him, unjust and believes he deserves a better chance. Unlike Proctor, Juror #8 speaking out against the other men results in justice for the accused who walks away with his life. Justice in the two texts is represented considerably differently to each other. In The Crucible it is evident that Abigail and her friends are in the wrong, condemning people to be death by lying and accusing the town members of Witchcraft, and therefore Proctor attempting to expose them for their dishonesty and bring justice to those who had been wrongfully accused, which included his wife, was a brave and noble thing to ... Since the dawn of humanity, man struggled and persevered through nature s unforgiving vicissitudes, but emerged fervently from them with the stern intent of actuating his ever evolving desires. The debate between determinism and free will has raged since antiquity, and the main difference between them lies in an element of control; the one outer and the other inner, respectively. Determinism is the philosophical idea that every event or state of affairs, including every human decision and action, is the inevitable and necessary consequence of antecedent states of affairs. Human desire can only be expressed effectively through the attainment of power, provided it is desired; therefore, human action is determined by desire. Altruism is acting with an unselfish regard for others. Cooperative behavior enabled our ancestors to further enhance their survivability under harsh conditions, which clarifies the notion that when we make the effort to give without expectations of reciprocity, we feel fulfilled and energized. The previous sentence hinges upon the illicit negative fallacy, which is an argument whose conclusion of a standard form is affirmative, but at least one of the premises is negative. If the effort to give without expectations of reciprocity is true, then the expected feeling of fulfilment and energy mustn t be felt in order for the statement to be considered cogent; however, it was maintained that it was felt; therefore, the statement is fallacious. Thence, from the example provided, it can be concluded that altruism is nonexistent. Altruism and free will are mutually inclusive; if altruism is nonexistent, then free will is also nonexistent. Actions which spring from internal control are guided by free will; those which spring from external forces are guided by determinism. Desire is a constituent part of human nature, which necessitates actions whose ends are directed toward benefiting the director. Its philosophical underpinnings suggest that change comes through political activism and even war and revolution if peaceful means have failed. In addition, liberation theologians view sin as the root of poverty and capitalism as the most ruinous form of sin on earth. Thus, Liberation Theologists argue that capitalism should be confronted as pure evil and replaced by a more just and equitable socialist system. The Pope unequivocally denounced these ideas as ideologically misguided. Many Nicaraguan Catholics were disappointed with the Pope s position on political action because they felt like he missed a chance to bolster the revolution and support much needed change for the people. They had lived under years of tyranny and oppression at the hands of the conservative regime. And thousands of innocent Nicaraguan citizens had suffered gross social injustices and even death at the hands of their oppressors. If the Pope had supported their revolutionary cause, the people would have enjoyed the backing of the Catholic Church. And if that had occurred, it would have provided the people with a sense of spiritual support in their fight for freedom and equality. But the Pope s denouncement of Liberation Theology and the ... Who has contributed to the making of the modern camera in earlier times? Schulze made the first known photosensitive compound . J. Schulze mixed chalk, nitric acid, and silver in a flask, and then noticed how the mixture darkened on the side exposed to the most light, accidentally creating the first photographic compound. Later, in 1800, Thomas Wedgewood made what he called sun pictures by placing objects on a piece of leather treated with silver nitrate, which were the first photographs, although they faded and deteriorated if exposed to much light. In 1816, Nicéphore Niépce combined the photosensitive paper with the camera obscura, which after multiple tries and multiple years, created a permanent image on the paper. In 1834, Henry Fox Talbot created a permanent image using paper soaked in silver chloride and fixed with a salt solution, which was an image negative. Talbot could make a positive image by contact printing the image onto another sheet of paper . There were many advancements to the photosensitive paper, as it started to be explored by more and more scientists and other people. • 48. Army Musket Throughout history the United States Army has undergone a plethora of changes. Since its inception in 1776 ever this has evolved from personnel, to rank structure, even the uniforms but the one piece of equipment that has seen the most change has been the weaponry; more specifically the small arms issued to individual soldiers. Small arms used by American forces in the Revolution were many and varied, however at the beginning of the war the British Short Land Service Musket, often referred to as the Brown Bess, was perhaps the most common musket on hand. The M16 was ordered as a replacement for the M14 at the direction of Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara over the objection of the Army. However from the beginning the M16 showed a lot of problems When the M16 reached Vietnam, reports of jamming and malfunctions in combat immediately began to surface. Some additional improvements were made but the rifle s reputation continued to suffer. Moreover, complaints about the inadequate penetration and stopping power of the 5.56mm cartridge persisted throughout the conflict. In the mid 1980s the army transitioned into a rifle still in use today the M16A2. The M16A2 was technologically advanced in many ways the most specific being the select fire capability. A select fire rifle capable of semi automatic fire or three round bursts. The burst fire mechanism utilized a three part automatic sear that fires up to three rounds for each pull of the trigger A combination of the M16A4 and M4 Carbine continued to replace existing M16A2 Rifles used by the Army. • 49. White Privilege And White Skin Privilege 2 Privilege refers to the unearned advantages enjoyed by a particular group simply because of membership in that group. Privileges accrue to those who (consciously or not) oppress others and are generally invisible to those who enjoy them (Swigonski, M.E. 1996). Having that in mind my position on white privilege (or white skin privilege) which can also be called the huge pink elephant in the room. Society (especially now) believe that America have advanced past racism when in all actuality we still have a long way to go. People in our society can go through life without knowing about white privilege or realizing they themselves, may have this privilege. The white or lighter skin color of a person has automatic benefits, right from birth, them not ever having to do anything to attain this privilege. The consequences are mostly good and outweigh the bad, for the ones that have white privilege. However, skin that is not white has far more injustices, they are oppressed and they are the ones that suffer, not having this same privilege (King, M.T. 2009). I do believe the only difference between racism and 2016 as compared to 1960 is the law civil laws enacted caused white Americans to construct more subtle ways of displaying racist behaviours.
