Iago The Villain Of Shakespeare s Play The Tragedy Of...
In Act 1 we are introduced to Iago the villain of Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Othello. Iago is
motivated by his own personal gains, and uses people as pawns to help achieve his own goals. Iago
is able to manipulate people easily by observing each person carefully and exploiting their
weaknesses. In Act 1 Iagomanipulates Roderigo by convincing him that he is going to help him win
Desdemonaover; Iago also convinces Othellothat he is trustworthy and his loyal standard bearer,
but in fact Iago is only using their misplaced trust to help himself. In the first scene we learn that
Iago dislikes Othello because he made Cassio his lieutenant, although he is unexperienced in
battling, even though three great ones of the city in personal suit [asked Othello] to make [Iago]
his lieutenant (Act 1, Scene 1, Line 8 9). This may not be the only reason, however, because it is
thought abroad that twixt [his] sheets [Othello has] done [Iago s] office , (Act 1, Scene 3, Line
355 356), meaning that it was rumored that Othello and Iago s wife had slept together. Even
though it was only a rumor Iago will do, as if for surety , (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 360), which
shows how driven Iago is when it comes to his plot against Othello. At this point in the play we
still do not have a clear idea as to what Iago is going to do to Othello we only know that he wants
revenge and he wants to ruin Othello s marriage. In Act 1 we learn how clever and manipulative
Iago can be, which is horrible

Junk food is not good alternative for a meal because it doesn t give you the nutrients needed and
can give you problems with your health. As you can see junk food in school needs to be restricted to
decrease the rate of obesity and diabetes.
Restrictions should be made against junk food in school to prevent children s emotions and
accomplishment correlated with food. Using food as a reward or a treat, could be
unintentionally teaching their children to rely on food to deal with their emotions (rewarding
kids). Children are being taught to rely on food for a confort and a emotional cope mecanism.
After a hard day of work, many adults run to food to deal with stress, reliving their childhood
experience with food and comfort. The more parents use food as a reward for their children, the
more likely the child will grow into an adult who eats for comfort (rewarding kids). Kids being
emotionaly attached to food may affect them when they get older and eventually into thier adult
life. The child learns to comfort themselves with that food. This leads to an unhealthy emotional
connection between eating certain foods and feeling good (rewarding kids). Children eating thier
favorite foods make them feel happy so when they are upset they

Brooke Gladstone s The Influencing Machine
In, The Influencing Machine, author Brooke Gladstone explains that the changing media does
not change our brains if we do not let it. This goes against all the fears of technology thus far,
essentially making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When
they do not take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their
heads. Alot of times they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like
somebody, or some outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves.
Now, take something that is a bit more relatable to people. Say you are walking down the street
and see a registered sex offender. Alot of people dont want to see that... Show more content on

They were afraid the words and symbols were too complex for the human mind and it would
cause their brains to become too overloaded with information. When the children grew up, they
would ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. In 1613 Barnaby Rich spoke that books
overcharged the world to where the information from everyday would not be able to be
comprehended. Then, the alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would
essentially trust the written words more than they would orally and it would cause problems.
Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a
revolving door. Every few years the fears come back. Typically they are caused by books and
articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a million miles. People are suggesting that
their next invention will be self driving diesels. Then the fear is that the response system will not
be up to par and vehicle accidents will increase ten fold. Along with that, jobs will be put in
jeopardy. Taxi drivers will be slowly laid off, and truck drivers will be plucked

Leadership Discussion
The three leadership styles are democratic, transformation, and authoritarian leadership. Democratic
leadership is a type of leadership style in which members of the group take more participative role
in the decision making process. According to ANA (2010), in democratic leadership, everyone is
given the opportunity to participate, exchanged ideas freely, and encourage discussion. The three
attributes that defines democratic leadership are collective decision making, active members, and
camaraderie. In transformation leadership, the leader is not limited by his or her followers?,

This will be done through education to increase their knowledge, use inspiration, motivation, and
encouragement. Ways to apply leadership development in APRN role are through skilled
communication, appropriate staffing, and effective decision making. According to Prevost (2012),
APRN focuses its role in providing excellent nursing practice based on evidence based practice.
Leadership is everyone?s business because the organizations are encouraging leadership at every
level because of fast growing technology. The healthcare business is growing fast and the leaders
should empower the followers to participate in this competitive healthcare business.
Conclusion
This paper named three leadership styles, three attributes that defined each style, and examples of
how these attributes can be apply to own leadership. Three things that can be done to continue
learning to be a better leader, areas that need to be strengthen, ways to apply in APRN role, and
what is meant by leadership is everyone?s business are also described in this

The Roswell Incident: Fact, Fiction or Military Cover Up? nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; Some

The huge mans sudden move, and the loud pounding on the table startled Titus and all those
sitting at the table. Reeling back from the table, Titus knocked over his high wooden chair.
When it hit the floor, it made a loud noise that echoed through the large stonewalled room.
Standing up and stretching to look as tall as he could. Titus said, Thank you, your Highness, I
shall do my best. The royal wizard, sitting next to Titus, jumped to his feet and called to the king,
But sire, he is but a lad, a boy. He is . Not giving the wizard time to finish, the king raised his arm
in the air, above his head, his hand wide open, his palm facing the wizard In loud and clear voice,
the king said, I have spoken, and it shall be done. As the king lowered his hand to his side,

Russian Revolution Dbq
Research Question: Was the Russian Revolution a Successful Revolution?
The Russian Revolution of 1917 was unsuccessful because of how it did not accomplish the initial
goal of establishing communism, internal social and economic issues within Russia, detrimental
effects of rapid industrialisation and became the catalyst of a civil war. The defeat in war against
Japan, in 1905, led to increased opposition to the Tsar, who was viewed as incompetent. The war
was also important in intensifying and worsening longer term social and economic problems, as it
caused food shortages, high prices and unemployment the factors which motivated many to take
part in the march on the Winter palace that resulted in Bloody Sunday (Document A). The Tsar was

Due to Russia s sheer amount of citizens in the country, it resulted in a overcrowded society,
poor housing along with poor living and working conditions (created by economic problems in
Russia) led to social tension in cities. In terms of land and agriculture, the Russians had methods
that were inefficient and backwards as they still used wooden ploughs and very few animals and
tools. With not enough land to go around (due to the controlling of private property), vast
expansion of peasant population in the later half of the 19th century led to overcrowding and
competition for land. The diverse people of Russia desperately needed a social reform. With peace
established with Germany, the of lack of a compete control over the country then led to the civil
war immediately after the Bolsheviks assumed power. The Reds (communists) and the Whites (anti
communists, Capitalists, western forces) fought a series of battles that resulted in countless deaths.
The White forces received support from the Western Allies during the internal war. The United
States, England and Canada had contingents of men inside of Russia initially to guard supplies they
had sent during the war, but they were in a position to fight if their governments thought necessary.
The Red Army was able to defeat the much larger White armies over the course of the three year

They invite the Loisels to the party.
C1. Exposition Mathilde is a pretty and charming woman, born of simple roots and humble
beginnings, relished with both the love and warmth of a family though not well off financially
yet considerably contemporary to the families in the middle of the hierarchy. She was married to
Monsieur Loisel, a government clerk who works round the clock at the Ministry of Education.
She has always dreamt of a life of luxury and leisure, with attentive maidservants, a large home
decorated with coveted linens, expensive jewels and fancy silverware. Mortified of the humiliating
state she s in, she no longer visits Madame Forestier, an old friend of hers.
C2. Rising Action The Loisels receive an envelope with a letter inviting them to an affair at the
Ministry of Education, as honored guests of Monsieur Georges Rampouneau, Head and
Minister to Education. Monsiuer Loisel gets an expression completely opposite to what he was
expecting for. Mathilde grows worried and tirelessly distraught for she has not a single dress to
wear for the occasion. She needs something extravagant and fancy, but a piece of clothing of
such delicate formality would cost Monsieur Loisel a sum of four hundred Francs the exact
amount he s been saving for to buy himself a rifle. The day of the fete draws nearer, and Mathilde
becomes increasingly downcast and hopeless. Loisel begins to ask Mathilde the cause of her
misery, and is later greeted with

Harley Davidson
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Harley Davidson is the largest market share holder of motorcycles over

States. After the expansion of our production and distribution capacity, we will be in the position to
meet the increasing demand for our motorcycles and other products. Growth potential appears very
good especially in the overseas market. Gaining a larger market share in these area may require a
further increase in production and distribution capacities. We must plan for expansion now and

Sales of Buell motorcycles (which are distributed through select Harley Davidson dealers) increased
to $14 million in 1995 as compared to $6 million in 1994. The Company began 1995 at a
scheduled motorcycle production rate of 395 units per day. As the implementation of the
manufacturing strategy continued, the rate increased to 470 units per day by the end of the year.
The Company exceeded its production goal of 100,000 units in 1995 and anticipates 1996
production will reach at least 115,000 units.
The Company is currently reviewing alternative sites for the construction of a new manufacturing
facility to enable it to achieve its long term goal of doubling motorcycle production by 2003. Year
end data indicates that the domestic (United States) motorcycle market continued to grow
throughout 1995.
Compared to 1994, industry registrations of domestic heavyweight (engine displacements in
excess of 751cc) motorcycles were up 11.3% . The Company ended 1995 with a domestic market
share of 55.8% compared to 56.1% in 1994. This decrease is a reflection of the Company s
constrained production capacity in a growing heavyweight motorcycle market. Demand for the
Company s motorcycles continues to exceed supply with nearly all of the Company s independent
domestic dealers reporting retail orders on all of their remaining 1996 model year motorcycle
allocations (production through June, 1996). Export revenues totaled $394.8 million during

From the Nobel Prize website itself, the passage describes briefly and clearly elaborates on Albert
Camus, mostly in the focus of his career, writing and otherwise his involvement in theatre. The
main purpose of this piece is to inform people who are interested in the Nobel Prize selection and in
Camus himself about him, providing a short synopsis on his background and his movement in his
career from political journalism to writing essays, stories, and furthermore novels. Growing up,
Camus expressed a deep interest to philosophy, which later prevailed in all of his publications as
well as his Algerian upbringing. Although his fascinations to the mind and thought were definitely
present, he was unable to attend university for philosophy; however, luck struck him when he was
able to begin working as a columnist and later dabbled in theatre. In many of his works, he
utilized the notion of absurdum and absence, seen heavily in The Myth of Sisyphus and further
elaborated upon in the main character of Meursault in The Stranger. By gathering the pieces that
occurred in Camus s life, it becomes clearer as to why he wrote the story the way it is and what it
means, to him and to others.

The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Immigration
Where did immigration start? Why did immigration start? Was immigration encouraged by our
government? What were the positive and negative impacts of immigration? Immigration has been
occurring for many years. Throughout history immigrating to different lands was very common.
During the early 1800s through the early 1900s, nearly 30 million foreigners were arriving in the
United States. In the late 1800s in a single year close to 400,000 immigrants arrived. During this
time the immigrants were helping shape America by supplying labor and industrialization. When
people were first migrating to North America as this country was getting started, the American
people had a very narrow mindset, therefore, as people from other countries migrated to the U.S.
little by little the country was broadened. The country was broadened along with the American
people, their laws and foreign peoples perspective of America. As the perspectives of foreign
people changed migration to America was encouraged.
First, before America was bound to begin: The Native Americans were here in North America
first, then the Europeans settlers came to this land and were taken from the natives. Many
injustices have occurred in history but this is how America was shaped to be the country it is
now. Therefore, it can be viewed in two different was in a positive and a negative way. For
example, it can be positive because through our past events in history we were able to become the
country we are today. Although

The Coastal Plains Of Texas
The Coastal Plains of Texas is a large area that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to beyond the Rio
Grande. This region can be divided into 5 distinct areas.
PINE BELT:
It extends 75 to 125 miles into Texas from the east and from north to south from the Red River to
about 25 miles of the Gulf Coast. The Pine Belt is practically the source of all Texastimber
production. Lumber is the principle industry. The climate is good for a variety of fruits and
vegetables. A great oil field discovered in 1931 contributed to the economic growth of the area.
BLACKLAND BELT:
This area stretches from the Rio Grande to the Red River. This area runs through the DFW
metropolitan area. This area is also the most populated with the strongest diversified manufacturing
industry of the state.
COASTAL PRAIRIES:
This area extends along the Gulf of Mexico, from the Sabine River to the lower Rio Grande Valley.
Cattle ranching is the largest and strongest agriculture industry. Along with cattle ranching, rice is
also a very strong crop in the agriculture industry. More principle crops include cotton, grains,
vegetables, and citrus fruits.
LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY:
This low valley is also known as The Valley. It has the greatest citrus and winter vegetables in
Texas due to the lack of freezing weather. It is ranked very high among the nation s fruit and truck
farming regions.

My Writing Course Reflection
I began this course with goals to significantly improve my writing. I knew there were challenges
for me to overcome, because I have not written much at all since high school, which has been
more than twenty four years ago. Nonetheless, I was up for the challenge and each week I made
sure to do exactly as instructed in the weekly syllabus, reading each every assignment very
carefully. At first I felt overwhelmed, but as I completed the homework and discussion post
assignments for the weeks prior to the major papers, the overwhelming feelings subsided and I
concentrated on each task at hand.
The homework and class work did not come easy for me, but completing the reading assignments
really helped me to understand what I needed to accomplish. I made sure to be engaged in the
discussion board posts, so that I would be able to obtain feedback from others. Keeping up with the
writing assignments was a major priority for me as well, because I was hopeful to find out which
areas I would really need to focus on to be able to do a good job on major papers. Likewise, peer
revisions proved to be a great way to seek input for improvement, I made sure to participate in
each one, and it paid off. The discussion board posts, the writing assignments, and the peer

good complete outlines. I would even re write those if needed. I think making those changes going
forward, are what helped me improve on my future papers. There were many other tools that helped
also, but focusing on re writing drafts and outlines, basically experimenting, was a huge benefit for

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Geospatial Satellite Imagery
Over the past decade, the ability of large financial institutions to accurately predict changes in the
price of financial securities by using advanced technology has increased exponentially (Bloomberg).
Specifically, the introduction of affordable geospatial satellite imagery has enabled investment
managers to estimate crop yields, oil supply, and livestock quantities with low margins of error.
This information is used to inform trading decisions, which often result in large profits (Woyke).
While extremely useful, this technology is only available to a select number of institutions, as they
have signed exclusivity and pricing agreements with the technology firms providing the data. These
agreements prevent small investment funds and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One salesperson from Planet Labs offered one million square miles of daily corn imagery for a

or multi trillion dollar institution, this cost is negligible when compared with the potential
returns. However, smaller firms and retail investors have been priced out of the market entirely
according to Tian Nan from Almitas Capital, a $150 million hedge fund in Southern California.
The salesperson from Descartes Labs told Nan that he was not authorized to sell data any cheaper
due to pricing agreements with their main client . Furthermore, he disclosed that even if someone
is willing to pay the market price for data, it would be delayed 24 hours due to terms in the
agreement. In most cases, after 24 hours, the data is useless for trading purposes; it is simply too
late to make a profitable decision. Phone conversations with representatives from TellusLabs,
Orbital Insight, and Quandl revealed the same findings as Descartes Labs. Clearly, the larger
institutions have a distinct advantage and the power to block others from trading profitably in the
commodities markets. If only large institutions have access to superior information, smaller

Barriers to Entry: The athletic footwear industry is a very competitive and mature market. The
leaders of this industry are very well established. Leaders like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas have
made the industry what it is today. In order to have an edge over the leaders, companies must be
able to compete at all levels such as reasonable pricing, efficient production, and high product
quality. These things are difficult to achieve without the resources of an established manufacturer.
Another key barrier to entry is the access of traditional distribution channels. Lesser known brands
are viewed by retailers as being too risky to replace an established brand name like Nike or Reebok
on the shelf. Thus, high startup costs, lack of distribution channels, brand equity and cutthroat
environment hinder the entry of new competitors.
Non Price Competition: In a monopolistically competitive market like that of footwear industry,
there is just a slight difference between the products manufactured by various companies such as
Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Puma etc., and hence the companies rely heavily on non price competition.
They mainly use advertising to flaunt their products and try to get consumers to buy their product
over another. The goal of product differentiation and advertising (non price competition) is to
make price less of a factor in consumer purchases and make product differences a greater factor.
There is a lot of non price competition

The Important Aspects Of The Catholic Church
Elizabeth Stevinson
110 C
Catholicism is a world renowned faith and has expanded throughout history to become one of the
largest faiths known today. Two of the important aspects of the Catholic Church are the worship
rituals and the texts of the Sacred Scriptures. The worship rituals are important within the Catholic
church, because many rituals are used to Increase faith and to advance oneself to a higher state of
spiritual perfection. (Why The Rituals)
The sacraments are designed to build up the body of Christ and to worship God. It is also another
way to nourish and further strengthen our relationship with Christ as our lives progresses.
(Sacraments of the Catholic Church.)
Norton Herbst states in his article The term catholic comes from the Greek word katholikД“ which
means according to the whole or universal. The difference between (Protestantism and Catholicism).
The term was designated for the most accepted form of faith passed down from the first followers
of Christ. The worship rituals in the Catholic Church and the importance of the Scriptures make
Catholicism unique and help create something that has never been known.
The worship rituals in the Catholic Church include, mass, baptism, confession, anointing of the
sick, confirmation and Eucharist. The word mass is described as the source and summit of
Christian life. (The Eucharist: The source and summit of the Christian).
For centuries the Mass was celebrated almost all in Latin and was only based on

A Personal Health Record ( Ehr )
A personal health record (PHR) is an emerging health information technology that patients may use
to participate in their own health care and improve the quality and efficiency of that care. Most
articles written about PHRs have been published since 2000.
PHR could be defined as An electronic application through which individuals can access, manage
and share their health information, and that of others for whom they are authorized, in a private,
secure, and confidential environment . A PHR should not be confused with an electronic health
record (EHR). While EHR is entered and edited by health care provider, PHR is accessed and, in
some cases, edited by the patient himself.
There are two main types of PHR, tethered, or connected, PHR and untethered, or standalone, PHR.
There are many benefits of PHR such as Empowerment of patients, Improve patient provider
communication and relationships, Increase patient safety, Access to patient data in emergencies,
chronic disease management, Improved quality of care, more efficient delivery of care, Better
safeguards on health information privacy, bigger cost savings and improve Behavioral habits.
There are many challenges facing adoption of PHR such as maintaining data security and privacy
and Digital divide and literacy related issues.

Epistemological Violence Summary
In the first article by Thomas Teo called Epistemological Violence he talks about this concept
called Epistemological Violence which he states the concept is using empirical evidence in either
research articles, books, chapters to imply that one group is inferior or a problem group despite
their being better explanations available. This concept angers me because I know it has been used
and still very might be still be used today to claimed outrageous claims that whites are the superior
racebecause they rigged or spun the experiment to make it seem this way. For instance, a lot of
people claim that African Americans are the problem group that is why they live in the worst
neighborhoods, uses drugs, teen pregnancy, poor education, gang activity so when a test comes
between a white male and a black male the white does better they can say by nature whites are
smarter and they can so call back up their claim with their study.... Show more content on

The reason why whites do better than blacks in education is because the whites have had a lot
more opportunities and a better environment to learn and better themselves. Furthermore, as for
drug use and gang activity when their family cannot afford to pay the bills and live day to day
they must figure out ways to survive legal or not and to protect themselves or have likeminded
people support them they will resort to gang activity because the police will not do anything.
Lastly the reason they lived in the worst or on the outskirts of the city is two reasons the first
reason is that most likely that area is the only area they can afford to live in and the second
reason is that the people in power might have intentionally raise prices in an area to kick out the

Although the amount of money UK people spending on flower and plant is increasing, only ВЈ28
has been spent on flowers per person per year. It follows that most people are not willing to
spend loads of money on buying flowers. According to the finance situation of Bradford citizens
whose incomes are lower compared to the Britain average one, the core strategy for the shop to
follow should be the cost focus strategy of Porter s Generic Strategies. With reality, the M S in
Broadway brings new threats to the business. The M S s fresh and high quality bouquets may
catch our loyalty customers attention. But as the cost focus strategy provides a greater margin for
profit, the price would be much lower comparing with other stores selling flowers such as
Sainsbury s, Tesco and M S. The price advantage we got could attract more customers. In reaching
our expected target market of customers aged of 20 50, we will choose five marketing

The Motivation For Why People Go At University
The first key point that Levy discusses is the motivation for why people go to university. Levy
identifies three main reasons for students to attend university. The first reason is vocational. What
this means is that students go to university because they have recognised that gaining a higher
education and furthering their studies will provide them with a wider range of career opportunities.
The second reason is scholastic. This means that students go to universityfor personal enrichment
and for a love of learning, as they believe that a personal interest is essential to remaining at
university studies. They are not solely driven by the desire to gain more money. The third reason
is social. This means that students go to university for the social life. Levy discusses that the
reason for why these students have this motivation is due to them living close to the campus or still
living with their parents at home. He later discusses that they were unlikely to progress beyond the
first year of university a number of them realised that university is not about partying, it is all about
working hard.
Levy discusses that students later revealed numerous motivations for attending to university, not
just the common categories of vocational aspirations, scholastic or social opportunities. These
motivations were quite separate from the other factors. Some students felt compelled into attending
university not only by their parents but also their schools. Parents played a significant

Dred Scott v. Sandford Dred Scott was born a slave in the state of Virginia around the 1800 s.
Around 1833 he was purchased from his original owner, Peter Blow, by John Emerson, an
officer in the United States Army. Dr. Emerson took Dred Scott to the free state of Illinois to
live, and under it s constitution, he was eligible to be free. In around 1836, Dred Scott and his
owner moved to Wisconsin territory, a territory that was free under the Missouri compromise. It
was in Wisconsin that Dred Scott met and married Harriet Robinson. John Emerson was

Sandford. Because Mr. Sandford resided in New York, there was diversity of residence, and the
case was taken to federal courts. Mr. Scott lost this suit as well, and this time appealed to the U.S
Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme court ruled that Mr. Scott was a black man and therefore had
no rights; this included the right to sue. During the trial period, Mr. Scott and his family were in
the custody of the St. Louis county sheriff department. The Scotts were rented out and the
money earned was held in escrow for the winner in the case. Mr. Scott was financially backed by
the family of his first owner, and in fact Charles E Labeaume, the brother in law of Peter Blow,
had been renting the family and helped Mr. Scott sue for his freedom in the Federal Court. Dred
Scott also sued Mr. Sandford for battery and wrongful imprisonment. Mr. Sandford did not deny
Mr. Scotts claim, he agreed that he had gently laid his hands upon Scott and his family, but that
he could do so because they were legally his property. Sanford won this case because Mr. Scott s
status as a slave had already been decided by Missouri Supreme Court. There was also the
question that when Mr. Scott did reside in the free states, why didn t he claim his freedom then?
In the past Missouri courts supported the doctrine of once free, always free, however Dred Scott

Reflection On Reflection-In-Action
Reflection is considered as a vital element of professional practice as it precedes to insight and
then subsequent change in practice. The hypothesis of reflection is not new as it can be tracked
as far back in the 5th century by the influential Greek philosopher, Socrates and to the 1930s
primarily focusing on John Dewey s work. Dewey is one of the founders of learning from
experience. He theorised reflectionas active, persistent and careful consideration (Dewey, 1933)
initiated by a specific situation which was opposing, perplexing or uncertain. One of its most
common use today is coming up with a thought, an idea, or opinion made or an observation made
as a result of concentration, suggesting in essence a way of thinking in which one looks back and
meditate upon (Agnes, 2004).
In 1938, Donald Schon s The Reflective Practitioner: How Professionals Think in Action was
published. He promoted two types of reflection, which he referred to as 1) reflection on action and
2) reflection in action (Somerville and Keeling, 2004). Reflection on action is the most common
used reflection among practitioners. It involves constantly re accounting what happened in the past.

The Rise Of Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley has always been a place of constant economic change. Huge booms and then sudden
busts are not only common, but they re almost predictable. It s becoming easier to observe and
evaluate past crashes and use this knowledge to predict future busts in the valley. The huge jump in
the number of tech startups recently has been attracting an increasing amount of attention from
investors who are looking for make it big. Due to this as well as other factors, these companies are
becoming overvalued, causing a tech bubble that will soon burst.
The economic history of Silicon Valley is far from smooth. The Valley has survived the outrageous
fortunes of the military industrial complex in the 70s, the silicon wafer business in the 80s, and
the personal computer in the 90s, which are all either dead, gone overseas, or now established and
boring. One of the more famous events, the dot com boom in the late 1990s to 2000s, left many
with a feeling of helplessness for the future of the valley. The sudden growth of the internet resulted
in venture capitalists seeing record setting growth as dot com companies experienced abnormal
rises in their stock prices and therefore moved faster and with less caution than usual, thus resulting
in a tech bubble that burst, leaving investors floundered.
One thing is for certain, if there is one thing that Silicon Valley is good at, it s recovering from
hard times like these. It seems that no matter how hard of a fall it might take, it s able

Decision making is the most important aspect of any matter one confronts in the physical world.
The success or failure of a project, business, operation, company etc. is directly proportional to the
logical reasoning carried out to reach a decision. Bad/ suboptimal decisions can ruin/damage
business, project, reputation and careers. Past few decades of research into the decision making
paradigm has highlighted that bad decisions are a byproduct of distortions and biases that
incapacitate our reasoning. Most of our decision making is heuristic in nature that serves perfectly
well in most of the situations. However, when the problem is large enough, one tends to ignore or

The problem of finding an optimal solution under given constraints belongs to the discipline of
mathematical optimization that includes methods like linear programming, dynamic programming,
integer programming, Pontryagin s maximum principle and nonlinear programming. Linear
programming has been popular since its introduction and has helped solve many real world
problems yet it suffers from a grave limitation i.e. the real world is not linear which restricts its
use to linear optimization problems or to the ones that can be approximated as linear models.
Problems with strong nonlinearities will not give a feasible solution if approximated via linear
models. Nonlinear programming addresses these limitations but is far more difficult to implement
and needs more computational power to solve problems. In this paper we review the nonlinear
programming technique and the way it can help solve a complex optimization problem. The paper
is organized as follows. In section 2 we define the optimization problem and its mathematics. In
section 3 we discuss the nonlinear programming, its origin, uses and the software programs that
can be used to aid problem solving. Section 4 is an example of optimization problem and its
solution via nonlinear programming. In section 5, we give the conclusion.

Parliamentary Sovereignty In The UK
During the buildup to the 2016 Brexit referendum those who campaigned to leave the European
Union did so in order to take back control of their nation, including taking back control of
parliamentary sovereignty. Parliamentary sovereignty is one of the fundamental values of the
United Kingdom s constitutional law but European Unionlaw, since the 1972 European
Communities Act, trumps that sovereignty. This transpired due to the United Kingdombecoming a
member of the European Union where EU law takes primacy over national law. With being a
member of the European Union it entailed that the key law making body would be that of the
European Commission rather than Westminster Parliament. Many European Union regulations can

As human rights become more prevalent the courts could transition into the main law making body
in regards to protecting those rights in common law. Baroness Hale in Jackson v Her Majesty s A
G (2005) states, The courts will treat... any attempt to subvert the rule of law by removing
governmental actions affecting the rights of the individual from all judicial scrutiny. By this
Baroness Hale meant that even though Parliament has sovereignty, the courts will intervene if
legislation over steps its boundaries and affects human rights, as depicted in the Human Rights Act
1998. The limitations to Parliamentary Sovereignty is not something new but instead has been
witnessed throughout the formation of this modern society. For example, in the North Atlantic
Treaty 1949 article 5 states that members must come to the defense of fellow members, which
suggests a forfeiture of sovereignty over utilizing British forces. Also part of being a member of
the World Trade Organization means that the United Kingdom is subject to global regulation and
arbitration of its goods and services, which is another trade off of sovereignty. The European
Communities Act 1972 can be seen as another type of exchange of sovereignty for the greater good
of the country. During the 17th century Parliamentary Sovereignty was needed to create order out
of chaos but in the modern world

Second-Wave Feminism and Labour in Canada
Canadian workplaces today seem to be a fairly diverse place, with a blend of many religions,
ethnicities, and genders present. However, although people preach affirmative action and melting

example is gender discrimination. Women in the workforce face many challenges like smaller
wages, harassment, male privilege in hiring or promotions, and lack of support when pregnant or
raising children. One half of the planet is women, and it can be assumed the same for Canada, but
they still face judgment at work because they lack the authority to dispute against big corporations

al, 1996, p. 65). Minority women faced greater oppression, and were less likely to be hired. If
they were lucky enough to find a job, it was usually low ranking, part time, and short term, as
employers eagerly replaced them with Caucasians, men or both (Frances et. al, 1996, pp. 69 70).
Part time work was very common, with 25% of female workers part time in 1989 (Frances et. al,
1996, p. 66), displaying an employer s reluctance to allow women employees. Even as more
females entered the workforce despite resistance, they were still discriminated against due to the
current powers in charge.
The main goal of second wave feminism with regards to women and labour was changing the
power structure through legal means to ensure female workers. To begin this movement, a royal
commission was called for. The Royal Commission on the Status of Women (RCSW) was
created to bring equality to women all over Canada, not just in the workforce. It was needed due
to the influx of women at work in the 1960s after large numbers of women stated working in both
male and female oriented employment in 1943 due to the Second World War. Many refused to quit
their jobs after the war ended and the soldiers returned (Morris, 2013). Although legally allowed to
work, it is obvious through widely known tropes of the time (the good housewife versus bad female
labourer) that women were discouraged from working outside the home. Student

However, as people increasingly relied on fisheries to make lucrative profits, the cod fish population

It seems that a more effective non technical solution is mutual coercion to set up strong
government regulations and use technical solutions to aid mutual coercion. The Tragedy of the
Commons , according to Hardin, is a societal problem arising from individuals depleting shared
resources (1968, pg 1243). Hardin s commons are the limited resources shared by society that are
not regulated. In commercial cod fisheries, the commons is the fishing ground, or the ocean. The
tragedy of the commons refers to a dilemma individuals, maximizing their own utility, could
collectively cause the depletion of common resources. This is because assuming that humans are
self interested rational beings, every individuals interest is to maximize their own gain by
exploiting public resources, while the collective interest is to use the resources sustainably.
Likewise, in commercial cod fisheries, the individual s interest is to catch as many fish as
possible to maximize profit. Yet, the collective interest is to fish at a level sustainable for cod fish
to reproduce, so that not only our generation, but also our future generations will not run out of
cod. Since we have hardly resolved the gap between individual interest and collective interest, the
problem persists. This gap has already led to devastating consequences. In 2015, the cod stock in
the Gulf of Maine is at 18 percent of what scientists deem to be a healthy population.

Decompression Sickness Essay
Decompression sickness also known as the bends is an illness that can affect divers who are in
situations that involve rapidly decreasing pressure around the body. Under any pressure nitrogen
and oxygen is absorbed by the body. When a diver descends in water the pressure around them
increases by 1ATM for every ten metres which means more nitrogen is absorbed than normal. This
phenomenon is explained by Henry s Law. During decent and while divers are on the bottom the
diver is continually absorbing nitrogen into the tissues until the pressure in the tissues is equivalent
to the external pressure of the surroundings. This is when a person s tissues are saturated and
cannot absorb any more nitrogen. When the diver ascends slowly the nitrogen

Hero Cycle Harry Potter
From living with his aunt and uncle and sleeping under the stairs to his life being completely
changed around to practicing magic and becoming one of the most well known wizards in
history. The character Harry Potter in the well known book Harry Potter and the Philosopher s
stone is an astonishing example of how the hero cycle is applied to the protagonist. Harry is
living his most ordinary life in the regular world and suddenly the call to adventure approached
him when Harry begins to receive mysterious letters. Refusal of the call comes next and after that
the meeting of the mentor. Secondly, the crossing of the threshold is used when Harry joins the
wizarding world. Tests, Allies and enemies when he arrives at Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and
wizardry. Approach when the trio prepare themselves to face Voldemort. Ordeal death and rebirth,
reward and seizing the sword. Lastly. The road back when Harry, Ron and Hermione try and face
Voldemort. Resurrection and the return of the elixir. Is Harry Potteris an amazing example of the
hero cycle? The hero cycle is a pattern of narrative that appears in drama, storytelling, myth,
religious ritual, and psychological development. It describes the typical adventure of the archetype
known as The Hero in twelve stages.
Harry Potter is living in the ordinary world with his Aunt, Uncle and Cousin who treat him with
very little respect. He begins to receive mysterious letters which are addressed explicitly to him.

The Gap Of Quality Of Life Essay
I.Introduction
The problem that I am going to focus on this research paper is the gap of quality of life(QOL)
between panic disorder patients, nonclinical panickers and normal people without panic disorder. In
2009, The National Institute of Mental Health announced that about six million American adults
suffer from panic disorder(PD). Panic attacks are defined as sudden bursts of emotions which
include fear of dying and losing control and so on. Most of the people suffer from occasional panic
attacks but not all of them develop into panic disorder. People who have worries about recurring
panic attacks have more frequent panic attacks than the others who do not. People who have
genetic predisposition, had extremely unpleasant early childhood experience with anxiety and risk,
and having to face challenging changes on becoming an independence adult are more like to have
PD.
One out of 75 people suffer from panic disorder and it usually appear during the teen or early
adulthood. It is also said that having a family member with panic disorder will increase the risk of
it in other family members. PD is highly treatable with psychotherapy such as cognitive behavior
therapy or medication or both. Since PD symptoms are very similar to heart attacks or other life
threatening condition such as shortness of breath or hyperventilation, sweating, heart palpitations,
chest pain, trembling, dizziness, and hot or cold flashes, there are more chances to be
misinterpreted those symptoms and

Senior Class Failure
What makes the Senior Class of 2016 different from any other class to graduate from Lenape?
All the drive this graduating class ever needs is the wish to impact the world in some way. That
goal has driven us all this far and will continue to drive us to the destination we dream of and
desire. We all wish to succeed, but sometimes you must fail a few times and learn from your
failure. The failures will only make the final success seem greater. The graduating class stands out
because despite our failures, we all still have the dreams we will someday reach no matter what
obstacles life throws at us all we will ever needis our future goals and dreams. As a member of the
senior class I see each and every member of our class begin to evaluate

Short Story On Harlan Sander
Harlan, honey, what are you doing? Asked Harlan Sander s wife.
He was fishing on the bank of a pond, his face was down, and wrinkles of worry were popping up
all over his face. The corners of his mouth twitched. His eyes were tired and looked as if he had not
slept in a long time.
I am fishing, trying to catch us dinner, after all, we do have to close our shop Honey, its ok we
have enough money to last us a while, we will not be sleeping in the streets anytime soon!
That money cannot last, I am broke and miserable, I cannot hope to provide for myself, much less

That does not matter to me, and you know that! I will always stick will you, even at the hardest of
times.

rested on his legs, and walked out. There was slippery ice around the car. He walked to the car,
and leaned backwards to free his hand. Using his now free hand he tugged on the handle,
however he slipped on the ice, dropping the box to steady himself with his other hand. He landed
on his arm backwards, and there was a loud crunchy sound. Pain filled his arm and shoulder, and
tears flooded to his eyes. He bit his lip to not cry out but some sound still escaped his lips.
Honey, what happened? the alarmed wife cried out.
I think I broke my arm! Can you drive me to a hospital, please!
I glanced at the contents of the box...inside were pressure cookers.

Well, you ll live, its not broken. Its just a really bad sprain. Your lucky, you could have shattered
your elbow joint, and probably lost the use of your arm. the doctor said.
Thank you, doctor, I said, as he put a cast around my arm. How am I going to cook with a sprained
arm? With a cast?
Thank you, doctor, said my wife as she and I walked out. See what happens when you carry to
many of your pressure cookers, those things are bloody heavy! she said to me.

Sampling System And Its Effect On The Speed Of System
1 . INTRODUCTION There are plenty of sampling systems are present. By using those kind of
sampling system it may causes large amount of distortion. Distortion includes aliasing, jitter, noise,
aperture error etc. Aliasing. Some amount of aliasing is inevitable because only theoretical,
infinitely long, functions can have no frequency content above the Nyquist frequency . Aperture
error results from the fact that the sample is obtained as a time average within a sampling region,
rather than just being equal to the signal value at the sampling instant. Jitter or deviation from the
precise sample timing intervals. Noise, including thermal sensor noise, analog circuit noise, etc. In
order to reduce the jitter and increase the speed of system we use wide band photonic compressive
system. It mainly used for the periodic nonuniform sampling of signals. Topic relevance and
applications Wideband photonic compressive sampling system consist of many advantage over the
other sampling system.Sampling is the reduction of continuous signal to a discrete signal. A
common example is the conversion of a sound wave to a sequence of samples Wideband photonic

Essay on Functionalism in Education
Having attended public schools throughout my childhood and adolescence, I never was familiar
with the term functionalism and its many elements. After observing and analyzing my field
placement classroom I have come to understand the concept of functionalism to some extent. In
general, functionalists see schools as serving to socialize students to adapt to the economic,
political, and social institutions of that society (Feinberg, p.6, 2004). They also theorize that in
order for societies to survive, they must carry out vital functions such as, attaining fundamental
knowledge and acquiring essential skills and proficiency, acknowledging certain norms and values
within their community, and recognizing authority figures. It is also... Show more content on

As soon as their teacher, Mrs. Root asked them to settle down, they instantly became silent. This
is an example of an unspoken expectation of the teacher and is one of many hidden curriculums
that I witnessed in the classroom. Another instance was during instruction; Mrs. Root had asked a
question pertaining to shapes and who ever knew the answer, demonstrated this particular hidden
curriculum by raising their hand. The functionalist concept, hidden curriculum, is best defined as
organizational features and routines of school life that provide the structure needed to develop
the psychological dispositions appropriate for work and citizenship in industrial society
(Feinberg, p. 21, 2004). It is intended to assist in achieving norms, learning one s position in
society, and how to think of oneself. Hidden curriculum has also been explained as making the
transition from family to the real world less difficult. This concept applies to the examples I gave
because when the teacher asked the students to settle down, they instantly knew that they needed
to follow directions. The idea that teachers are authority figures and deserve to be respected is
instilled in children at a very young age and is expected to be upheld. As for students raising their
hands when wanting to speak or answer a question, this has also been implanted in children s
minds and is a norm in today s society. I conducted my second

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Driverless Cars
An autonomous or driverless car is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and
navigating without human input. To detect their surroundings a range of techniques from
computer vision and radar to laser lights and odometry (the use of motion sensors to estimate
movement and changes) are used. Firstly, the car creates a map of its surroundings and aligns this
with its sensor data to understand where it is. It then adds in exactly what it sees at that moment
using radar and laser lights. The car must then predict movement and changes to the environment
to work out how it is going to respond. This can create very complex images as the car must be
aware of all other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, low flying birds and anything... Show more content

In addition to this, driverless cars would be able to drive closer together due to quicker reaction
times and drive at faster speeds meaning more cars could be on the roads. To prevent even more
pollution being released into the atmosphere, these cars can be environmentally friendly to help
the environment and ourselves. Driverless cars would also allow elderly or disabled individuals
to travel around without relying on public transport or help from friends and family. Although I
believe that the positives about driverless cars outweigh the negatives they are significant factors
to take into consideration. For one, the cost of the cars is an issue. Although with time they will
become cheaper, currently they add up to more than $100,000 as they require lots of engineering,
software, sensors and power requirements. This would mean that for a long time they would not
be available to the majority of people. Furthermore, the introduction of driverless cars would mean
that truck and taxi drivers would lose their jobs. However, many people argue that although many
jobs will be eliminated, more jobs will be created. Moreover, as the Guardian highlighted, hackers
may become very interested in hacking the cars system to either cause crashes or gain personal
information about the owner. This would mean that very high security measures must be used so
that this could be avoided. A

Deception By William Shakespeare s Play
In William Shakespeare s play 1 Henry IV, deception is a recurring theme. Main characters King
Henry IV, Hotspur and Prince Hal deceived people to benefit themselves. Were these characters
deceiving their subordinates to gain power or were their choices and actions political strategy
geared toward gaining honor and maintaining the well being of the nation? All three main
characters deceive people to gain power which can be seen as an act of malice and disloyalty but
also as a political strategy. King Henry deceives King Richard II into believing that he is on his
side while he is secretly planning a rebellion, Hotspur does the same to King Henry by deceiving
him into thinking that he is on his side while also secretly planning a rebellion and Prince Hal
deceives the kingdom s people into thinking he is this wild child so they will be more impressed
with him when he becomes the mature prince and adequate potential leader he was expected to be
all along. All of this deceptionbrings up the question, do the characters use deception purely for
their own benefit or for the benefit of the greater good? Shakespeare s use of deception for power
shows these three characters true intentions, for King Henry IV deception is used to gain power
to benefit the kingdom while on the other hand, for Hotspur deception is used to gain power for
his own benefit and the benefit of his family while in Prince Hal s complicated case, deception is
used both for his own benefit and ultimately the

Ethnic and Religious Conflict in Nigeria
Analysis of the challenges of religion and ethnicity on political stability in Nigeria s fourth republic
(1999 2011)
INTRODUCTION
Background to the Study
Basically, Nigeria is a plural society and heterogeneous in virtually all the facet of life. The custom
and tradition of Nigerians is so diverse to the extent that Nigeria as a country is now confronted with
the problem of religion and ethnicity towards their political stability.
The origin and history of ethnic conflict (societal wars and violence) can be traced from eternal
(internal) state rivalry to external (physical). And its root cause is not very far from power
competition and decision making over economic resources and other important human factor, like
position. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This article is focused on the historical incidents of ethnic conflicts in within Nigeria societies, the
cause of the conflicts and perhaps, the government actions towards ethnic conflict in the country. In
conclusion, this paper will explore into decision making (by the elites and those in authority)
process has contributed immensely in generating the syndromes of conflict in the said state.
The Nigerian political situation has witnessed more breaking of heads, than counting them. In fact,
even when it has been convenient for heads to be counted, the outcome has always been the
breaking of heads instead. Conflict in Nigeria is so intense because of lack of democratic
behaviour. The head of the individual in the democratic context signifies citizenship. So when
heads are broken in the Nigerian political community, the issue in respect of broken heads is
citizenship. If conflict in Nigeria means the absence of democratic behaviour, it follows, therefore,
that conflict in Nigeria is interwoven with the absence of democratic governance. Gurr (2000): has
also shown that the incidence of conflicts at the global level declined in recent years with the
deepening of democratisation. Nation states where conflicts persist are those where what obtains is
the democratisation of disempowerment (Ake 1996). Beyond the veneer of elections, the state
remains ambushed, privatised, repressive and unpopular. The people who were tantalised by the

  • 2. Iago The Villain Of Shakespeare s Play The Tragedy Of... In Act 1 we are introduced to Iago the villain of Shakespeare s play The Tragedy of Othello. Iago is motivated by his own personal gains, and uses people as pawns to help achieve his own goals. Iago is able to manipulate people easily by observing each person carefully and exploiting their weaknesses. In Act 1 Iagomanipulates Roderigo by convincing him that he is going to help him win Desdemonaover; Iago also convinces Othellothat he is trustworthy and his loyal standard bearer, but in fact Iago is only using their misplaced trust to help himself. In the first scene we learn that Iago dislikes Othello because he made Cassio his lieutenant, although he is unexperienced in battling, even though three great ones of the city in personal suit [asked Othello] to make [Iago] his lieutenant (Act 1, Scene 1, Line 8 9). This may not be the only reason, however, because it is thought abroad that twixt [his] sheets [Othello has] done [Iago s] office , (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 355 356), meaning that it was rumored that Othello and Iago s wife had slept together. Even though it was only a rumor Iago will do, as if for surety , (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 360), which shows how driven Iago is when it comes to his plot against Othello. At this point in the play we still do not have a clear idea as to what Iago is going to do to Othello we only know that he wants revenge and he wants to ruin Othello s marriage. In Act 1 we learn how clever and manipulative Iago can be, which is horrible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Junk food is not good alternative for a meal because it doesn t give you the nutrients needed and can give you problems with your health. As you can see junk food in school needs to be restricted to decrease the rate of obesity and diabetes. Restrictions should be made against junk food in school to prevent children s emotions and accomplishment correlated with food. Using food as a reward or a treat, could be unintentionally teaching their children to rely on food to deal with their emotions (rewarding kids). Children are being taught to rely on food for a confort and a emotional cope mecanism. After a hard day of work, many adults run to food to deal with stress, reliving their childhood experience with food and comfort. The more parents use food as a reward for their children, the more likely the child will grow into an adult who eats for comfort (rewarding kids). Kids being emotionaly attached to food may affect them when they get older and eventually into thier adult life. The child learns to comfort themselves with that food. This leads to an unhealthy emotional connection between eating certain foods and feeling good (rewarding kids). This goes against all the fears of technology thus far, essentially making us humans the artificial intelligence. Take, for instance, a schizophrenic. When they do not take their medicine dark and twisty thoughts are allowed to creep up inside their heads. Alot of times they see and hear things that are not actually there. This makes them feel like somebody, or some outside force is causing all of the problems. In actuality, it is themselves. Now, take something that is a bit more relatable to people. They were afraid the words and symbols were too complex for the human mind and it would cause their brains to become too overloaded with information. When the children grew up, they would ultimately find themselves in the insane asylum. In 1613 Barnaby Rich spoke that books overcharged the world to where the information from everyday would not be able to be comprehended. Then, the alphabet was feared that it would cause forgetfulness. People would essentially trust the written words more than they would orally and it would cause problems. Danny Crichton, in his article, Fear Not The Robot, tells that this fear is typical. It is like a revolving door. Every few years the fears come back. Typically they are caused by books and articles. Google s self driving cars have driven almost a million miles. People are suggesting that their next invention will be self driving diesels. Then the fear is that the response system will not be up to par and vehicle accidents will increase ten fold. Along with that, jobs will be put in jeopardy. The Russian Revolution of 1917 was unsuccessful because of how it did not accomplish the initial goal of establishing communism, internal social and economic issues within Russia, detrimental effects of rapid industrialisation and became the catalyst of a civil war. The defeat in war against Japan, in 1905, led to increased opposition to the Tsar, who was viewed as incompetent. The war was also important in intensifying and worsening longer term social and economic problems, as it caused food shortages, high prices and unemployment the factors which motivated many to take part in the march on the Winter palace that resulted in Bloody Sunday (Document A). Due to Russia s sheer amount of citizens in the country, it resulted in a overcrowded society, poor housing along with poor living and working conditions (created by economic problems in Russia) led to social tension in cities. In terms of land and agriculture, the Russians had methods that were inefficient and backwards as they still used wooden ploughs and very few animals and tools. With not enough land to go around (due to the controlling of private property), vast expansion of peasant population in the later half of the 19th century led to overcrowding and competition for land. The diverse people of Russia desperately needed a social reform. With peace established with Germany, the of lack of a compete control over the country then led to the civil war immediately after the Bolsheviks assumed power. The Reds (communists) and the Whites (anti communists, Capitalists, western forces) fought a series of battles that resulted in countless deaths. The White forces received support from the Western Allies during the internal war. Sales of Buell motorcycles (which are distributed through select Harley Davidson dealers) increased to $14 million in 1995 as compared to $6 million in 1994. The Company began 1995 at a scheduled motorcycle production rate of 395 units per day. As the implementation of the manufacturing strategy continued, the rate increased to 470 units per day by the end of the year. The Company exceeded its production goal of 100,000 units in 1995 and anticipates 1996 production will reach at least 115,000 units. The Company is currently reviewing alternative sites for the construction of a new manufacturing facility to enable it to achieve its long term goal of doubling motorcycle production by 2003. Year end data indicates that the domestic (United States) motorcycle market continued to grow throughout 1995. Compared to 1994, industry registrations of domestic heavyweight (engine displacements in excess of 751cc) motorcycles were up 11.3% . The Company ended 1995 with a domestic market share of 55.8% compared to 56.1% in 1994. This decrease is a reflection of the Company s constrained production capacity in a growing heavyweight motorcycle market. From the Nobel Prize website itself, the passage describes briefly and clearly elaborates on Albert Camus, mostly in the focus of his career, writing and otherwise his involvement in theatre. The main purpose of this piece is to inform people who are interested in the Nobel Prize selection and in Camus himself about him, providing a short synopsis on his background and his movement in his career from political journalism to writing essays, stories, and furthermore novels. Growing up, Camus expressed a deep interest to philosophy, which later prevailed in all of his publications as well as his Algerian upbringing. Although his fascinations to the mind and thought were definitely present, he was unable to attend university for philosophy; however, luck struck him when he was able to begin working as a columnist and later dabbled in theatre. In many of his works, he utilized the notion of absurdum and absence, seen heavily in The Myth of Sisyphus and further elaborated upon in the main character of Meursault in The Stranger. By gathering the pieces that occurred in Camus s life, it becomes clearer as to why he wrote the story the way it is and what it means, to him and to others. • 13. The Positive And Negative Impacts Of Immigration Where did immigration start? Why did immigration start? Was immigration encouraged by our government? What were the positive and negative impacts of immigration? Immigration has been occurring for many years. Throughout history immigrating to different lands was very common. During the early 1800s through the early 1900s, nearly 30 million foreigners were arriving in the United States. In the late 1800s in a single year close to 400,000 immigrants arrived. During this time the immigrants were helping shape America by supplying labor and industrialization. When people were first migrating to North America as this country was getting started, the American people had a very narrow mindset, therefore, as people from other countries migrated to the U.S. little by little the country was broadened. The country was broadened along with the American people, their laws and foreign peoples perspective of America. As the perspectives of foreign people changed migration to America was encouraged. First, before America was bound to begin: The Native Americans were here in North America first, then the Europeans settlers came to this land and were taken from the natives. Many injustices have occurred in history but this is how America was shaped to be the country it is now. Therefore, it can be viewed in two different was in a positive and a negative way. For example, it can be positive because through our past events in history we were able to become the country we are today. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. My Writing Course Reflection I began this course with goals to significantly improve my writing. I knew there were challenges for me to overcome, because I have not written much at all since high school, which has been more than twenty four years ago. Nonetheless, I was up for the challenge and each week I made sure to do exactly as instructed in the weekly syllabus, reading each every assignment very carefully. At first I felt overwhelmed, but as I completed the homework and discussion post assignments for the weeks prior to the major papers, the overwhelming feelings subsided and I concentrated on each task at hand. The homework and class work did not come easy for me, but completing the reading assignments really helped me to understand what I needed to accomplish. Barriers to Entry: The athletic footwear industry is a very competitive and mature market. The leaders of this industry are very well established. Leaders like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas have made the industry what it is today. In order to have an edge over the leaders, companies must be able to compete at all levels such as reasonable pricing, efficient production, and high product quality. These things are difficult to achieve without the resources of an established manufacturer. Another key barrier to entry is the access of traditional distribution channels. Lesser known brands are viewed by retailers as being too risky to replace an established brand name like Nike or Reebok on the shelf. Thus, high startup costs, lack of distribution channels, brand equity and cutthroat environment hinder the entry of new competitors. The Important Aspects Of The Catholic Church Elizabeth Stevinson 110 C Catholicism is a world renowned faith and has expanded throughout history to become one of the largest faiths known today. The worship rituals are important within the Catholic church, because many rituals are used to Increase faith and to advance oneself to a higher state of spiritual perfection. This concept angers me because I know it has been used and still very might be still be used today to claimed outrageous claims that whites are the superior racebecause they rigged or spun the experiment to make it seem this way. For instance, a lot of people claim that African Americans are the problem group that is why they live in the worst neighborhoods, uses drugs, teen pregnancy, poor education, gang activity so when a test comes between a white male and a black male the white does better they can say by nature whites are smarter and they can so call back up their claim with their study.... Levy identifies three main reasons for students to attend university. The first reason is vocational. What this means is that students go to university because they have recognised that gaining a higher education and furthering their studies will provide them with a wider range of career opportunities. The second reason is scholastic. This means that students go to universityfor personal enrichment and for a love of learning, as they believe that a personal interest is essential to remaining at university studies. They are not solely driven by the desire to gain more money. The third reason is social. This means that students go to university for the social life. Levy discusses that the reason for why these students have this motivation is due to them living close to the campus or still living with their parents at home. He later discusses that they were unlikely to progress beyond the first year of university a number of them realised that university is not about partying, it is all about working hard. Levy discusses that students later revealed numerous motivations for attending to university, not just the common categories of vocational aspirations, scholastic or social opportunities. The hypothesis of reflection is not new as it can be tracked as far back in the 5th century by the influential Greek philosopher, Socrates and to the 1930s primarily focusing on John Dewey s work. Dewey is one of the founders of learning from experience. He theorised reflectionas active, persistent and careful consideration (Dewey, 1933) initiated by a specific situation which was opposing, perplexing or uncertain. One of its most common use today is coming up with a thought, an idea, or opinion made or an observation made as a result of concentration, suggesting in essence a way of thinking in which one looks back and meditate upon (Agnes, 2004). In 1938, Donald Schon s The Reflective Practitioner: How Professionals Think in Action was published. He promoted two types of reflection, which he referred to as 1) reflection on action and 2) reflection in action (Somerville and Keeling, 2004). The problem of finding an optimal solution under given constraints belongs to the discipline of mathematical optimization that includes methods like linear programming, dynamic programming, integer programming, Pontryagin s maximum principle and nonlinear programming. Linear programming has been popular since its introduction and has helped solve many real world problems yet it suffers from a grave limitation i.e. the real world is not linear which restricts its use to linear optimization problems or to the ones that can be approximated as linear models. Problems with strong nonlinearities will not give a feasible solution if approximated via linear models. Nonlinear programming addresses these limitations but is far more difficult to implement and needs more computational power to solve problems. In this paper we review the nonlinear programming technique and the way it can help solve a complex optimization problem. The paper is organized as follows. In section 2 we define the optimization problem and its mathematics. In section 3 we discuss the nonlinear programming, its origin, uses and the software programs that can be used to aid problem solving. • 38. Parliamentary Sovereignty In The UK During the buildup to the 2016 Brexit referendum those who campaigned to leave the European Union did so in order to take back control of their nation, including taking back control of parliamentary sovereignty. Parliamentary sovereignty is one of the fundamental values of the United Kingdom s constitutional law but European Unionlaw, since the 1972 European Communities Act, trumps that sovereignty. This transpired due to the United Kingdombecoming a member of the European Union where EU law takes primacy over national law. With being a member of the European Union it entailed that the key law making body would be that of the European Commission rather than Westminster Parliament. Many European Union regulations can bypass Parliament and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As human rights become more prevalent the courts could transition into the main law making body in regards to protecting those rights in common law. Baroness Hale in Jackson v Her Majesty s A G (2005) states, The courts will treat... any attempt to subvert the rule of law by removing governmental actions affecting the rights of the individual from all judicial scrutiny. By this Baroness Hale meant that even though Parliament has sovereignty, the courts will intervene if legislation over steps its boundaries and affects human rights, as depicted in the Human Rights Act 1998. The limitations to Parliamentary Sovereignty is not something new but instead has been witnessed throughout the formation of this modern society. For example, in the North Atlantic Treaty 1949 article 5 states that members must come to the defense of fellow members, which suggests a forfeiture of sovereignty over utilizing British forces. Also part of being a member of the World Trade Organization means that the United Kingdom is subject to global regulation and arbitration of its goods and services, which is another trade off of sovereignty. The European Communities Act 1972 can be seen as another type of exchange of sovereignty for the greater good of the country. During the 17th century Parliamentary Sovereignty was needed to create order out of chaos but in the modern world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Second-Wave Feminism and Labour in Canada Canadian workplaces today seem to be a fairly diverse place, with a blend of many religions, ethnicities, and genders present. However, although people preach affirmative action and melting pots in current times, many inequality and power issues still abound. One strikingly noticeable example is gender discrimination. Women in the workforce face many challenges like smaller wages, harassment, male privilege in hiring or promotions, and lack of support when pregnant or raising children. One half of the planet is women, and it can be assumed the same for Canada, but they still face judgment at work because they lack the authority to dispute against big corporations or even their male supervisor. It cannot be argued that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... al, 1996, p. 65). Minority women faced greater oppression, and were less likely to be hired. If they were lucky enough to find a job, it was usually low ranking, part time, and short term, as employers eagerly replaced them with Caucasians, men or both (Frances et. al, 1996, pp. 69 70). Part time work was very common, with 25% of female workers part time in 1989 (Frances et. al, 1996, p. 66), displaying an employer s reluctance to allow women employees. Even as more females entered the workforce despite resistance, they were still discriminated against due to the current powers in charge. The main goal of second wave feminism with regards to women and labour was changing the power structure through legal means to ensure female workers. To begin this movement, a royal commission was called for. The Royal Commission on the Status of Women (RCSW) was created to bring equality to women all over Canada, not just in the workforce. It was needed due to the influx of women at work in the 1960s after large numbers of women stated working in both male and female oriented employment in 1943 due to the Second World War. Many refused to quit their jobs after the war ended and the soldiers returned (Morris, 2013). Although legally allowed to work, it is obvious through widely known tropes of the time (the good housewife versus bad female labourer) that women were discouraged from working outside the home. The Tragedy Of The North Atlantic Cod Fisheries The Tragedy of the North Atlantic Cod Fisheries In the 1600s, due to the abundance of cod fish in the North Atlantic waters, commercial cod fisheries became one of the foundations of the New England economy (Seelye Bidgood, 2013). However, as people increasingly relied on fisheries to make lucrative profits, the cod fish population plummeted and the whole business reached its first collapse in the mid 1990s according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA 2014). Since then, government regulations and international agreements have gradually emerged to preserve the Atlantic codfish population. Even though the cod fish population did seem to rebound slightly, it could never catch up with people s monstrous appetite for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems that a more effective non technical solution is mutual coercion to set up strong government regulations and use technical solutions to aid mutual coercion. The Tragedy of the Commons , according to Hardin, is a societal problem arising from individuals depleting shared resources (1968, pg 1243). Hardin s commons are the limited resources shared by society that are not regulated. In commercial cod fisheries, the commons is the fishing ground, or the ocean. The tragedy of the commons refers to a dilemma individuals, maximizing their own utility, could collectively cause the depletion of common resources. This is because assuming that humans are self interested rational beings, every individuals interest is to maximize their own gain by exploiting public resources, while the collective interest is to use the resources sustainably. Likewise, in commercial cod fisheries, the individual s interest is to catch as many fish as possible to maximize profit. Yet, the collective interest is to fish at a level sustainable for cod fish to reproduce, so that not only our generation, but also our future generations will not run out of cod. Since we have hardly resolved the gap between individual interest and collective interest, the problem persists. This gap has already led to devastating consequences. In 2015, the cod stock in the Gulf of Maine is at 18 percent of what scientists deem to be a healthy population. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Decompression Sickness Essay Decompression sickness also known as the bends is an illness that can affect divers who are in situations that involve rapidly decreasing pressure around the body. Under any pressure nitrogen and oxygen is absorbed by the body. When a diver descends in water the pressure around them increases by 1ATM for every ten metres which means more nitrogen is absorbed than normal. This phenomenon is explained by Henry s Law. During decent and while divers are on the bottom the diver is continually absorbing nitrogen into the tissues until the pressure in the tissues is equivalent to the external pressure of the surroundings. This is when a person s tissues are saturated and cannot absorb any more nitrogen. When the diver ascends slowly the nitrogen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Gap Of Quality Of Life Essay I.Introduction The problem that I am going to focus on this research paper is the gap of quality of life(QOL) between panic disorder patients, nonclinical panickers and normal people without panic disorder. In 2009, The National Institute of Mental Health announced that about six million American adults suffer from panic disorder(PD). Panic attacks are defined as sudden bursts of emotions which include fear of dying and losing control and so on. Most of the people suffer from occasional panic attacks but not all of them develop into panic disorder. People who have worries about recurring panic attacks have more frequent panic attacks than the others who do not. People who have genetic predisposition, had extremely unpleasant early childhood experience with anxiety and risk, and having to face challenging changes on becoming an independence adult are more like to have PD. One out of 75 people suffer from panic disorder and it usually appear during the teen or early adulthood. It is also said that having a family member with panic disorder will increase the risk of it in other family members. PD is highly treatable with psychotherapy such as cognitive behavior therapy or medication or both. Since PD symptoms are very similar to heart attacks or other life threatening condition such as shortness of breath or hyperventilation, sweating, heart palpitations, chest pain, trembling, dizziness, and hot or cold flashes, there are more chances to be misinterpreted those symptoms and ... • 47. Sampling System And Its Effect On The Speed Of System 1 . INTRODUCTION There are plenty of sampling systems are present. By using those kind of sampling system it may causes large amount of distortion. Distortion includes aliasing, jitter, noise, aperture error etc. Aliasing. Some amount of aliasing is inevitable because only theoretical, infinitely long, functions can have no frequency content above the Nyquist frequency . Aperture error results from the fact that the sample is obtained as a time average within a sampling region, rather than just being equal to the signal value at the sampling instant. Jitter or deviation from the precise sample timing intervals. Noise, including thermal sensor noise, analog circuit noise, etc. In order to reduce the jitter and increase the speed of system we use wide band photonic compressive system. It mainly used for the periodic nonuniform sampling of signals. Topic relevance and applications Wideband photonic compressive sampling system consist of many advantage over the other sampling system.Sampling is the reduction of continuous signal to a discrete signal. • 48. Essay on Functionalism in Education Having attended public schools throughout my childhood and adolescence, I never was familiar with the term functionalism and its many elements. After observing and analyzing my field placement classroom I have come to understand the concept of functionalism to some extent. In general, functionalists see schools as serving to socialize students to adapt to the economic, political, and social institutions of that society (Feinberg, p.6, 2004). They also theorize that in order for societies to survive, they must carry out vital functions such as, attaining fundamental knowledge and acquiring essential skills and proficiency, acknowledging certain norms and values within their community, and recognizing authority figures. It is also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As soon as their teacher, Mrs. Root asked them to settle down, they instantly became silent. This is an example of an unspoken expectation of the teacher and is one of many hidden curriculums that I witnessed in the classroom. Another instance was during instruction; Mrs. Root had asked a question pertaining to shapes and who ever knew the answer, demonstrated this particular hidden curriculum by raising their hand. The functionalist concept, hidden curriculum, is best defined as organizational features and routines of school life that provide the structure needed to develop the psychological dispositions appropriate for work and citizenship in industrial society (Feinberg, p. 21, 2004). It is intended to assist in achieving norms, learning one s position in society, and how to think of oneself. Hidden curriculum has also been explained as making the transition from family to the real world less difficult. This concept applies to the examples I gave because when the teacher asked the students to settle down, they instantly knew that they needed to follow directions. The idea that teachers are authority figures and deserve to be respected is instilled in children at a very young age and is expected to be upheld. As for students raising their hands when wanting to speak or answer a question, this has also been implanted in children s minds and is a norm in today s society. I conducted my second ... • 49. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Driverless Cars An autonomous or driverless car is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human input. To detect their surroundings a range of techniques from computer vision and radar to laser lights and odometry (the use of motion sensors to estimate movement and changes) are used. Firstly, the car creates a map of its surroundings and aligns this with its sensor data to understand where it is. It then adds in exactly what it sees at that moment using radar and laser lights. The car must then predict movement and changes to the environment to work out how it is going to respond. This can create very complex images as the car must be aware of all other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, low flying birds and anything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this, driverless cars would be able to drive closer together due to quicker reaction times and drive at faster speeds meaning more cars could be on the roads. To prevent even more pollution being released into the atmosphere, these cars can be environmentally friendly to help the environment and ourselves. Driverless cars would also allow elderly or disabled individuals to travel around without relying on public transport or help from friends and family. Although I believe that the positives about driverless cars outweigh the negatives they are significant factors to take into consideration. For one, the cost of the cars is an issue. Although with time they will become cheaper, currently they add up to more than $100,000 as they require lots of engineering, software, sensors and power requirements. This would mean that for a long time they would not be available to the majority of people. Furthermore, the introduction of driverless cars would mean that truck and taxi drivers would lose their jobs. However, many people argue that although many jobs will be eliminated, more jobs will be created. Moreover, as the Guardian highlighted, hackers may become very interested in hacking the cars system to either cause crashes or gain personal information about the owner. This would mean that very high security measures must be used so that this could be avoided. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Deception By William Shakespeare s Play In William Shakespeare s play 1 Henry IV, deception is a recurring theme. Main characters King Henry IV, Hotspur and Prince Hal deceived people to benefit themselves. Were these characters deceiving their subordinates to gain power or were their choices and actions political strategy geared toward gaining honor and maintaining the well being of the nation? All three main characters deceive people to gain power which can be seen as an act of malice and disloyalty but also as a political strategy. King Henry deceives King Richard II into believing that he is on his side while he is secretly planning a rebellion, Hotspur does the same to King Henry by deceiving him into thinking that he is on his side while also secretly planning a rebellion and Prince Hal deceives the kingdom s people into thinking he is this wild child so they will be more impressed with him when he becomes the mature prince and adequate potential leader he was expected to be all along. All of this deceptionbrings up the question, do the characters use deception purely for their own benefit or for the benefit of the greater good? Shakespeare s use of deception for power shows these three characters true intentions, for King Henry IV deception is used to gain power to benefit the kingdom while on the other hand, for Hotspur deception is used to gain power for his own benefit and the benefit of his family while in Prince Hal s complicated case, deception is used both for his own benefit and ultimately the ... The custom and tradition of Nigerians is so diverse to the extent that Nigeria as a country is now confronted with the problem of religion and ethnicity towards their political stability. The origin and history of ethnic conflict (societal wars and violence) can be traced from eternal (internal) state rivalry to external (physical). This article is focused on the historical incidents of ethnic conflicts in within Nigeria societies, the cause of the conflicts and perhaps, the government actions towards ethnic conflict in the country. In conclusion, this paper will explore into decision making (by the elites and those in authority) process has contributed immensely in generating the syndromes of conflict in the said state. The Nigerian political situation has witnessed more breaking of heads, than counting them. In fact, even when it has been convenient for heads to be counted, the outcome has always been the breaking of heads instead. Conflict in Nigeria is so intense because of lack of democratic behaviour. The head of the individual in the democratic context signifies citizenship. So when heads are broken in the Nigerian political community, the issue in respect of broken heads is citizenship. If conflict in Nigeria means the absence of democratic behaviour, it follows, therefore, that conflict in Nigeria is interwoven with the absence of democratic governance. Gurr (2000): has also shown that the incidence of conflicts at the global level declined in recent years with the deepening of democratisation. Nation states where conflicts persist are those where what obtains is the democratisation of disempowerment (Ake 1996). Beyond the veneer of elections, the state remains ambushed, privatised, repressive and unpopular. The people who were tantalised by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
