the real world. Audrey Shalinsky defines ethnographic fieldwork as a scientific and artistic

ethnographic interview as I wanted to learn about someone else s experiences and hear a
different point of view than my own. I interviewed one of my Cambodian friends who asked if
their name could be omitted for privacy purposes. He and I met at a Starbucks so that I could
conduct my interview in a relaxed setting where my interviewee would feel comfortable and
open to talk about his experiences as someone from Southeast Asian descent. Throughout my
interview, I asked him what stereotypes he has encountered and what stereotype he himself
projects onto others. He talked about how he goes about his day to day life and how that causes
him to be stereotyped in a certain way and the way that he makes assumptions about others based

racially stereotyped, but I also wanted to be able to analyze any other stereotypes that people may

Senegal History Despite its small size, Senegal is an important player in West African politics. It
has had a long history, from its days as a collection of tribal kingdoms, to its existence under
French rule and eventual decolonization, to its place today as a model of peaceful democracy ( it
is one of the few African states that has managed to avoid military or political coups since its
independence in 1960 (Anderson, 2013)). Senegal has retained much of its traditional African
values as well as adapted to traditional European ideals (Gellar, 1995). France and other European
countries have had a profound effect on the social, political and economic structures Senegal has in
place today. By analyzing the previous structures developed by the Africans and then comparing
them to the placed upon them by the French, one can truly begin to understand the extent of the
transformation that has occurred. Before the imperial rule in the Senegambia area, governing
methods were largely focused upon a single dominant power ruling over various villages, towns,
and social groups that were incorporated into the dominant political unit (Gellar, 1995). The
excessive land space to population ratio at the time meant that controlling vast amounts of land did
not determine a kingdom s power, it was instead based upon the amount of people under their rule.

I.Introduction
Liberia is a country rich in natural resources but is one of the poorest countries in Africa. In this
paper, I will explain the causes of this poverty, such as poor governance and corruption and the
effects on society and the economy of the country. Corruption is rampant in African countries and
beneficial to only the private sector, yet this country has not been able to successfully stop it and
improve its structure. The government is the backbone of the country. It is supposed to benefit its
citizens, protect human rights and serve the communities, however the governments in Liberia has
not. This has caused rampant poverty, instability and healthcare issues.
II. Literature Review To better understand these issues, it s important to contextualize this within
