Contingency Planning Essay
News stations cover various disasters every single day. Sitting behind the screen, people effortlessly
deceive themselves into thinking that they will not face similar situations. However the reality is
that not only are everyone potential victims of such scenarios, but they are also liable to the
aftermath of the incident and its ripple effects. Acknowledging the possibility of experiencing a
disasteris the first step towards effective recovery and responsiveness. The next step is to
formulate a response system to various disaster scenarios and test it out. During the formulation of
a plan, the disaster scenarios and objectives need to be agreed upon while concurrently managerial
and technical actions are thoroughly defined (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees, 2007, p. 68). Evidently, there are costs associated with developing a contingency plan
which in the short term may appear unnecessary; nevertheless as a response to the increasing
number of disasters, contingency planning is essential to scheme to allow an organization to swiftly
return to its operations while avoiding superfluous costs and minimizing casualties as a result of the
increase in the overall effectiveness of response to an emergency or critical situation.
The need for contingency planning primarily roots from the trend of exponential increase in the
number of disasters. The World Disaster Report (2004) concluded that:

Poem Analysis Essay
Poem Analysis: I Go Back to May 1973
The poem being analyzed is entitled, I Go Back to May 1973 by Sharon Olds. In the beginning
of the poem, the image of innocence is lost but as the reader goes deeper into the heart and core
of the text, the tone rapidly spirals into violence as well as resentment. I m assuming that the
author of the poem, Sharon Olds, is the narrator of this literary text. Sharon starts by reflecting her
life story. She tells the tale of the beginning of her parent s relationship as two fresh college
graduates who venture into the world of marriage. The couple started off in an optimistic account
for they were both unassumingly innocent. Nevertheless, everything started to go downhill later in
life as Sharon, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading and analyzing the descriptions of both parents, I get an idea of what is about to
happen next in the young college graduate s lives as their relationship as a married couple turn
into a train wreck and their bad parenting come into effect. The couple s life fast forwards as one
of their children start speaking in angry words of her current situation. The child, Sharon, would
love to have the opportunity to go back in time and just warn them of the dark future that lies ahead
of them. She says, they are about to
Ramos 3 graduate, they are about to get married/ they are kids, they are dumb, all they know is they
are/innocent, they would never hurt anybody. (10 12) Although her parents would not deliberately
hurt anyone, it just so happens that they were too young and inexperienced in life to get married,
have children and pass on the knowledge that would ve been acquired if they still waited and
figured out what they wanted most in life. Although Sharon constantly complains about the
horrifying events that affected her childhood, she also says that:
I want to live. I take them up like the male and female

Role Of The Servant As A Leader
Organisational behaviour indicates to the approach of associations among individuals and meetings
inside a firm. For a successful enterprise it is indispensable to have ethical behaviour, organised and
systematic performances of the organisational citizens. Moreover, it is also important to have
healthy relationships as well as no inequalities of root and foundation in an organisation. Leadership

the qualities of servant leadership for the successful run of the organisation, the servant leader
should have the characteristics such as listening, awareness, empathy, stewardship, commitment to
the growth of people. Firstly, listening as a quality of a good servant leader means that they
should have good communication skills and decision making skills only than they are able to
have a successful organisation. If a servant leader doesn t have good listening skills or he may not

recognises the determination of the clusters and illuminates that determination (Spears,2010).

Literature Review On Relationship Marketing
After reviewing some of important literature journals, I found some interesting concepts that relate
to the concerned research topic. Some of the concepts are as follows:
Relationship Marketing According to Abeysekera and Kumaradeepan s study in the year 2012,
relationship marketing can be used as a strategy to race in the market. Relationship marketing has
been operationalized using the model of trust and commitment. The findings suggest a significant
difference in relationship marketing orientation in state bank and private bank. Private Banks can be
viewed as concerned with more relationship marketing than state banks.
On the other hand, S K Das in the year 2012 contradicts this study and observes that relationship
marketing is a progressing trend in today s time but due certain reasons and hesitations like
financial problems, danger of failure, marketing inertia, etc., many banks in today s world are still
following and implementing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the findings, it was concluded that banks should concentrate on improving the value
perceptions of the customers by taking into concern the easy design of the services, service
perspective and compatibility of the services delivered.
Therefore, it can be concluded that the earlier research that has been done has limitations that
qualify our findings and present opportunities for further research. Not much research has been
done about the need of CRM in improving the performance of banks and creating a better
relationship with customers. For this reason, this research has been done so that more insights into
the topic could be identified. Moreover, the earlier research done on this topic could be used as an
important tool for further research.

The amount of money that is raised for these conservations is extremely large. Over $11 million

Benefits Of High Intensity Power Training
In today s society, the overall trend and goal is to become fit and to reduce common
health risks such as obesity and diabetes. Many new programs have been developed to provide
people with the resources and community to achieve their goal of fitness. CrossFit is an example
of a recent exercise trend that have been exploding in popularity. CrossFit is a program created
by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai in 1996 but was not established until 2000. The original
CrossFit gym was brought up in Santa Cruz, California. Despite positive ratings, the CrossFit
program has been investigated for elevated risk of injuries and health. CrossFit gained popularity
across the world as a competitive fitness sport that promote a carried and high intensity workout
regimen incorporating elements of weightlifting, high intensity interval training, and gymnastics
(Lu et al.,2015). This program is practiced for weight loss, improvement of health related risks,
and improvement of body composition.
Some researchers proposed that high intensity power training that are CrossFit based can
improve maximal aerobic fitness and body composition of a person. Smith, Sommer, Starkoff,
and Devor (2013) designed a 10 week CrossFit program that consists of high intensity interval
training for their subjects. They studied 54 individuals that varied in fitness level and gender, but
only 43 (23 men, 20 women) completed the training. The researchers found that the program

What Is The Difference Between The Ecosystem And Aquatic...
Ecosystem is a natural system consists of all the biotic component in a community interacting with
each other as well as with all the abiotic factors to form a stable and balanced system. Terrestrial
ecosystem which is land based ecosystem includes tundra, taiga, temperate deciduous forest,
tropical rain forest, grassland and desert. Aquatic ecosystemis the ecosystem in the water. It is an
interacting system of resources such as water and biota. Water acts as limiting factor that
distinguishes aquatic ecosystem from terrestrial ecosystem and results in differences from many
aspects like size structure, growth rate and nutrient stoichiometry.
Size structure between terrestrial ecosystem and aquatic ecosystem can be distinguished from
pyramid of both ecosystem. Aquatic ecosystem showed inverted pyramid of biomass. Pyramid
of biomass, showing the total dry weight and other suitable measure of the total amount of living

Andy Warhol 32 Soup Cans Analysis
Andy Warhol s thirty two canvases titled 32 Soup Cans was created in 1962. This renowned
American Pop Artist, known for his repeating reproductions and gaudy colors, produced this piece
using the printmaking method. Warhol didn t want his paintings of mass produced commercial
goods to be conceptually stimulating. He wanted to make his work relatable so that viewers could
approach them and have a clear interpretation. Warhol replicated the appearance of manufactured
objects and famous icons for the sake of expressing his view on modern culture in a manner that
had nothing to do with personality or individual expression. According to Eric Shanes in his book
titled Warhol, Warhol s 32 Soup Cans were initially displayed in a single line around the gallery
walls. The original display maximized the repetitiousness of the imagery. The display was so
spatially extended, and ultimately projected the fearsome notion that the whole universe was filled
with Campbell s soup. Shane points out that Warhol developed the notion of taking an image
familiar to millions and presenting it frontally, without painterly qualities, and with a flat surround
(as though it was some kind of holy icon) (Shanes, 52). Shanes points out that Warhol formed an
alliance between abstract expressionist paint handling and popular cultural imagery. Shanes also
notes that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Americans today are no strangers to stretching every dollar earned in an attempt to live the
American dream. Most people work long hours and eat on the fly with very little thought to what,
or where, the food they have purchased came from. The reason food is so inexpensive has not been
a concern to the average American, but the article written by Michael Pollan The Food Movement

Pollan goes on to say that the policies weren t always misplaced, and they have played an
important role until recently, so he does speak on both sides of the fence in regards to the old
policies so readers can make their own decision.
Pollan goes on to suggest that there are many different approaches to the food movement, and
although the movement seems splintered and sometimes the various factions [...] work at cross
purposes, the author uses some highly credible sources to show that despite its many offshoots, a
cohesion of the masses has taken root in the food movement (par.11). The author uses big names
like Troy Duster, who is a renowned research sociologist from Northwestern University, to help
clarify his point. Troy duster states that viewed from a middle distance, then, the food movement
coalesces around the recognition that todays food and farming economy is unsustainable, [...] that
it can t go on in its current form much longer without courting a breakdown of some kind. (Par.
13). The author then clarifies his point but stating that the food system consumes more fossil fuel
energy than we can count on in the future [...] and emits more greenhouse gases than we can afford
to emit. (Par. 14). Pollan uses his sources as an ethical appeal to the readers, which effectively

Essay about An Ethical Theory Applied to Business...
The object of this essay is to establish whether there is an ethical theory that can be successfully
applied to business organizations. In order to answer this question, it is necessary first to define the
major ethical theories, which are utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics, before determining
whether there are any other options. After that, the ethical needs, problems and limitations of work
organizations will have to be examined so that the different theories can be evaluated in this
context. It will also be important to draw a distinction between the terms accurate and useful as
these actually result in two different questions the answer to which need not necessarily be the
same. Another essential part of this discussion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this it has the property of universalisality in that the right action will be right for
everyone. However, as a pragmatic and functional system of moral analysis, Utilitarianism has a
number of difficulties. One of the major problems is the fact that it is extremely difficult to
quantify happiness, and if it is not possible to decide which of several available actions produces
the most happiness, it follows that it is not possible to decide which action is the right one. Also
a particular action generating a high degree of happiness may have unforeseen consequences
that have the opposite effect. Can it be morally right to have a completely innocent and well
person killed if two seriously ill people could be saved by an organ transplantation? Is an action
always and incontrovertibly right because it gives greatest happiness to the greatest number of
people? Brady(1999) refutes this: the majority vote is not an ethic; it is a social choice technique.
Deontology as promoted by Kant on the other hand denies that the right action is the one that
produces the best consequences. It is based on a set of moral rules, and the right action is
supposed to be the one that conforms with these rules, whereas certain other types of action are
morally forbidden. Deontology seems to appeal to common sense as duties include special
obligations to family and

Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the rock band Queen, was a man who desired to live life to its
fullest, as he once proclaimed, The most important thing, darling, is to live a fabulous life. As
long as it s fabulous, I don t care how long it is (Freddie). However, while Mercury reveled in
showmanship, often surrounded by rumors of extravagance, he was also a fiercely private person.
The singer and songwriter, whose real name was Farrokh Bulsara, struggled with a secret that
tortured his soul. Having grown up in a devout Zoroastrian home, Mercury knew what admitting he
was a homosexual would mean for him. He felt he would lose the love and admiration of his

He explained that he was no longer able to hold back these unwelcome desires declaring, Too

was beyond his control. He then said his goodbyes to the loved ones he left behind because he
knew he had to move on regardless of the consequences: Goodbye everybody I ve got to go
/ Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth (Queen). Within the last two verses of the song, the
listener hears a distinct change in the attitude of Freddie Mercury. Queen no longer uses soft, low
tones to convey sadness and regret. Mercury now sounds powerful and angry and the
corresponding lyrics match this new attitude. In a powerful and almost explosive tone, Mercury
declares, So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye (Queen). Within this passage, Mercury
speaks directly to those who would judge and condemn him for his homosexuality. Stoning was a

author explains her hate of the color pink. The author wrote the article because she was worried
about her daughter s love for pink which she believes has an influence on her growth. She
believes pink has become a color that differentiates a girl from a boy, therefore creating a gap
between genders. However, the author failed to address the psychological problems pink might
have on girls. In the article, the author mentioned that her daughter figured out pink is for girls and

Do Americans Waste Food? Americans throw away billions of pounds of food, worth billions of
dollars and enough to feed millions of people each year. Wasted food is the single largest
component of American landfills. Every year, around 40 percent of all food goes unconsumed in the
United States. This amounts to Americans squandering as much as $218 billion annually
growing, processing and transporting food that never gets eaten. That is a fairly large waste of
resources considering all that freshwater and land, all that fertilizer and energy used was for
nothing. Washington Post . Even Europe does a better job of curtailing food waste and food
waste in Europe alone could feed 200 million hungry people! Food waste is often described as a
farm to fork problem. Produce is lost in fields, warehouses, packaging, distribution, supermarkets,
restaurants and fridges. Why? We purchase too many food products, our eyes are bigger than our
stomachs, and we buy what is not expected. One of the many reasons Americans have a big
amount of food waste every year comes right from the source: farming. Farming is a major
contributor to food waste in the United States for different reasons. According to the Washington

forward for punishment in order to live a better afterlife.
The religious theory surrounding witchcraft is centred on Reformation, which brought a challenge
to Catholicism from Luther. By the 1550 s there were religious wars in Germany. Calvin went on
further to attack Catholics and Calvinism spread throughout Europe as a result. At the end of the
sixteenth century, Europe had been divided between Catholics and Protestants where England,
Germany and the Netherlands were mostly protestant. Whereas, Spain, Italy and most of France

Including the fact that religious change produced, conflict and even war especially in Germany and

period tends to coincide with the peak of witch hunt when the bible was widely circulated in the
vernacular. Protestant priests preached things such as Thou shall not suffer a witch to live . They
were keen to root out magic in all its forms because they associated it with catholic practices and
superstition. There was confessional conflict as Hugh Roper sees witchcraft as being motivated
by catholic and protestant desire to show godliness in a time of religious schism. The witch hunt
cultivated feelings of moral superiority plus helped to remove or reduce feelings of guilt because
of religious changes. This again can be a form of psychological projection, which is a type of
defence mechanism. This involves individuals attributing their own unacceptable thoughts and
motives to another person. Therefore, people scapegoated others if they had done something wrong

Success and Failure in Organizational Change
To cite this article: Bernard Burnes Philip Jackson (2011): Success and Failure In Organizational
Change: An Exploration of the Role of Values, Journal of Change Management,
ABSTRACT One of the most remarkable aspects of organizational change efforts is their low
success rate. There is substantial evidence that some 70% of all change initiatives fail. This article
explores the argument that a potentially significant reason for this is a lack of alignment
between the value system of the change intervention and of those members of an organization
undergoing the change. In order to test this assertion, the article begins by reviewing the change
literature with regard to the impact of values on success and failure. It then examines Graves ...

However, the problem with such explanations is that implicitly or explicitly they assume that
there is a one best way to manage change and that failure arises from not adhering to it (Burnes,
1996). Confusingly, there are quite a few one best way approaches to change (Collins, 1998; By,
2005). For example, Kanter (Kanter et al., 1992) offered her 10 commandments for successful
change, Pugh (1993) has his four principles of change and Kotter (1996) put forward his eight step
model. Two, however, have stood out from the rest. From the 1950s to the 1970s, organization
development (OD) tended to be seen as the best way to manage change (French and Bell, 1999;
Cummings and Worley, 2005). In the 1980s and 1990s, the emergent/processual approach came to
dominate the п¬Ѓeld, at least among academics (Dawson, 1994; Orlikowski, 1996; Weick, 2000).
Nevertheless, in recent years there has been a growing recognition that one or even two approaches
to change cannot cover the vast variety of change situations (Storey, 1992; Stickland, 1998;
Pettigrew, 2000; Burnes, 2009a). As Dunphy and Stace (1993, p. 905) argued:
. . . managers and consultants need a model of change that is essentially a situational or contingency
model, one that indicates how to vary change strategies to achieve optimum п¬Ѓt with the changing
environment.

In the Victorian era, the role of a woman is to be the perfect wife for their husband and a attentive
mother for their children. In Lady of Shalott, Tennyson comments women s changing roles in
society, as he utilizes the medieval setting to contrast Victorian values in patriarchal societies. The
Lady of Shalott embodies the woman who abandons her social responsibility in her for love as it

When viewing the different gender roles, the poem explains how men are shown to be in the
public sphere of dominance, whereas the women s private sphere, is distinguished by
domesticity and obedience. However, the Lady of Shallot being trapped within the walls of the
tower has found fulfillment. It is also could be possible that the Lady of Shalott who faces
captivity has the wants to find comfort instead of trying to escape from her prison. In Joseph
Chadwick s (1986) work he explains how the Lady of Shalott engulfs herself into her own work to
make herself seem as if she was a free person even though she is trapped. It may be arguable how
she deals with it, but by her suppressed feelings she was able to save herself from the insanity of

This paper will explore the biopsychosocial components of fibromyalgia for patients and the current
research surrounding the use of mindfulness as a treatment for the disorder.
The Disorder
Fibromyalgia is a persistent pain disorder that affects multiple parts of a person s body that
typically occurs between ages thirty and fifty years old (Glennon, 2010). The disorder is seven
times more common in females than males and may occur in as much as 8% of the women
within their lifetimes (Arnold et al., 2008). While general knowledge on fibromyalgia has
increased since the American College of Rheumatology s first report in 1990 (Clauw et al., 2011),
the etiology and exact psychophysiological process creating the disorder is still yet to be
determined (Ryan, 2013).
Fibromyalgia Pain Chronic and widespread pain is understandably the most distressing symptom of
fibroyalgia and predominantly why patients seek medical help in the first place. Fibromyalgia is a
pain disorder of the central nervous system that distorts not only the person s perception of
intensity of pain but also the person s perception of what causes pain in the first place because of
malfunctioning nociceptors (Clauw et al., 2011). Average pain is processed by nociceptors via two
sets of neural pathways. The ascending neural pathway is activated by painful stimuli like extreme
temperature, pressure, and impact. The ascending pathway sends nociceptive signals to send
neurotransmitters

My Jump Experience Essay
It was on a school break back in elementary school in 4th grade. I was happy we were going to my
cousin s house me and him usually play x box and stay up really late. The first night was fun we
played x box like usual, stayed up really late and went to bed. In the morning I went to go eat
cereal and went outside to the trampoline. This is where the bad things start to happen.
My cousin thought it was a great idea for me to jump off of his deck at his house. So me being
stupid agreed to it and I thought it might be funny. My cousins deck is really high up. The stairs
that lead up to the deck are very steep because of how high it is. So as I am walking up the stairs
and look down I realized this might not be such a great idea and I start thinking about why I am
still up there, however my stupidity took over and I kept climbing up the stairs until I got to the
top. The Atlantic quoted We are a few fries short of a happy meal.
So now I am at the top about to jump and from up there it looks like I am jumpi+ng off a
building. To my cousin it does not look like that high of a jump, but for me I am terrified. I hear
my cousin say Jump Dylan , and now I know that he is becoming impatient with me.
Correspondingly I jump off because I got tired of hearing jump Dylan and as I hit the floor I get
the feeling where it is hard to breathe. You know when you hit your stomach or somebody punches
you right in the gut and you cannot breathe that is what happened to me. Not to mention

Comparing The Attitude Of Satan And Jesus In Paradise Lost
Many examples exist that contrast the attitudes of Satan and Jesus. Paradise Lost is one such
example that displays the negative attitudes of pride, hate, and rebellion that Satan has. On the
contrary, the Bible is an excellent source that shows Jesus attitudes of humility, love, and
submission.
Firstly, Satan had an attitude of pride in Paradise Lost. One example of his pride was when he
said he desired, being the contrary of His high will. This shows his pride because Satan just
wants to contradict God. Another example of pride was when Satan said, to be weak is
miserable, implying that serving God, the Creator of all things, was a sign of weakness. A final
example of Satan s pride was he said it was, better to reign in hell then serve in Heaven. This also
shows that Satan viewed serving God as undesirable. However, the Bible shows Jesus has the
quality of humility. This is shown in Luke 4:24, when it said, Truly, I say to you, no prophet is
acceptable in his home town. This shows humility because Jesus could have demanded the
respect he deserves, but he did not. Instead he allowed himself to be shut out and rejected.
Another example of Jesus humility came from Matthew 20:28a, even the Son of Man came not
to be served but to serve. This clearly shows humility because Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior
came to serve. Similarly, John 13:5a says, Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash
his disciples feet, again showing servanthood instead of Lordship. Secondly, Satan had the
attitude of hatred. This is shown when he said, farthest from Him is best. This displays that
Satan does not want to be anywhere God is which is why God created hell, as a place where
Satan can dwell without God s presence. Another time hatred was shown was when Satan said,
ever to do ill our sole delight. This paints a picture that Satan hates people so much that the only
way he is happy was when people suffer. Although Satan hates everyone, Jesus is full of lovefor
people. This is shown in John 14:2b, which says, In my Father s house are many rooms. If it were
not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? This shows Jesus love because
he has gone to Heaven to prepare a place for

Petruchio Character Analysis
Lust, wealth, and pride are undoubtedly insatiable. They are an impetus that drives one to embark
on a challenging quest. However, when individuals become obsessed with them, they may even
turn them into a villain. In William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew, Petruchio is the
villain that has all these insatiable curiosities. A male chauvinist, he is a boisterous nobleman from
Verona who pursues Katherine even though he knows that she is fiery and obnoxious. Despite her
notoriety, he is not deterred by her egregious disposition because what he wants is her dowry. By
being manipulative, corrupt, and audacious, Petruchio is able to win Katherine s heart as well as
her wealth.

ii. 53 62). By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth
and power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. Further evidence that
proves that Petruchio only cares about Katherine s dowry is during the wedding feast, Petruchio
announces: Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you I know you think to dine with me today
And have prepared great store of wedding cheer, But so it is, my haste doth call me hence, And
therefore here I mean to take my leave (III ii 157 161). This seals the fact that Petruchio does not
love Katherine at all, as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating
his own marriage. Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to
marry Katherine, as he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself.
Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete his plans is because of his audacious nature.
His unrefined personality allows him to speak freely and ask disrespectful questions in order to
deceive people and grasp the situation at hand. This is evident when Petruchio bluntly asks
Baptista: Then tell me, if I get your daughter s love, What dowry shall I have with her

Testosterone increases male characteristics such as body hair, aggression, deepening of the voice,

he also knows that he has to do the right thing by telling people that he has made a mistake. To

Merger Of Hospital A And B.
A merger is a partial or total combination of two separate business firms and forming of a new one.
There are predominantly two kinds of mergers: partial and complete. Partial merger usually
involves the combination of joint ventures and inter corporate stock purchases. Complete mergers
are results in blending of identities and the creation of a single succeeding firm. (Hicks, 2012, p

Hospital B was a not for profit organization, located in west side of town. It consists of 154
inpatient beds and a geriatric health center with 100 106 beds, 13 transitional beds and 7
rehabilitation beds. Total staff of 914 employees. It is an old facility and has earmarked $20 million
for renovation to existing emergency room and ICU. Appendix 1, Table 1 provides an overview of
the two facilities before merger and an overview of PRMC after Merger.
Rational for merger
Merger of Hospital A and B and its consolidation into PRMC was essential as Hospital A was
crippled with losses for 3 previous years and was also forecasting losses in the coming year.
Hospital B was struggling with an aging facility. Furthermore, given that both the hospitals were in
the same community and therefore essentially serving the same community, they were competing
both: for the same patients, as well as, the clinical staff. The merger, allowed the new PRMC to
reduce the healthcare costs, address the shortage of healthcare personnel and improve the delivery
of healthcare by reducing the duplication of services and providing wide variety of services to the
small community of 60,000 in southeastern part of Idaho.

The Human Perception And Distinction Between Gender And...
Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human perception and
distinction between gender and culture. Consequently, scientific revolutions have also triggered
sociopolitical movements, which have had negative and positive connotations on culture and
society. This overhaul in scientific thought began in the 19th century with naturalist Charles Darwin
and his theory of Darwinism. Darwinism states that animal species continually evolve through the
complex processes of natural selection and those most fit learn to adapt and survive to their
particular environment (darwin online.org, 2008). Shortly after Darwin made his revolutionary

In short, this theory has a history of elevating certain groups while oppressing others and this paper
aims to expose the impact of the Eugenics movement in and its lasting effects on gender and culture
in America, specifically on women and African Americans and individuals with disabilities.
In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit race of people
was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race
negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to
procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. Women were held in high regard
for their ability and fitness to bear and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened
with the stigma of possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison
to male counterparts.

Role Of Propaganda In Animal Farm
Propaganda is some sort of information, especially of a biased or misleading nature used to

Propaganda is a false statement which is spread to help or harm a person or a group of people.

upset that Rodolpho did not to ask for permission to take her out. He goes on and says that
Rodolpho does not respect Catherine and Eddie tries to split the couple apart with the idea that
Rodolpho is only interested in Catherine to become a citizen. This is Eddie s first attempt to

him and tries to intervene. When this plan does not work, he goes to a lawyer to try in hopes that

Over the years man has been confronted with many trials and hurdles, but Zika and Ebola virus
are the definitely the most notable of the modern times. Generally we come up with very clever
solutions to medical problems, after all, we have had many years of experience. Zika is a subtle,
easily transmitted, virus first found in monkeys living in Uganda in 1947. It was then found in
humans in 1952, and spreading to South America starting the largest outbreaks in modern times.
This virus is present in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific. Ebola, on the other hand, is a
whole different ballgame. The symptoms are violent and set on fairly quickly. First discovered in
1976, Ebola has made headlines only recently. We shouldn t forget that this... Show more content on

Zika and Ebola both have taken people by surprise. Eighty percent of the people infected with Zika
do not even develop symptoms. In turn, this halted the awareness of the disease. When the Ebola
outbreak started to spread the usual fierce announcement of the virus was delayed, and even after
the presence of the virus was announced, it had already spread too much. The difference between
the two viruses is the action taken by the countries. Guinea and other Ebola plagued countries,
with the help of international health organizations, took measures to inform and help the public
after an initial delay. This came with obvious effects; Guinea has left the forty two day period
(two Ebola incubation cycles) and entered the ninety two day enhanced surveillance period with
no cases whatsoever. During this period any suspected cases will be immediately handled with
extreme care. In Brazil, however, corruption, poor sewage and water systems, and negligent health
care providers have not helped in the fight against Zika. The rainforests that have been chopped
down in Brazil are just one giant breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry Zika, and this is just
amplifying the spread of the virus. Within the African rainforest, recent periods of drought
alternated with wet seasons spread the virus. After a prolonged period of drought the fruit trees will
stop producing fruit and the animals will grow hungry. When

Analysis Of Man On Wire
Most people would consider dancing 1,300 feet above the ground on a high wire a death wish, but
for Philippe Petit this was his greatest desire. In the documentary Man on Wire, the director James
Marsh, brilliantly introduces Philippe Petit, a Frenchman who has a passion for high wire walking
who chases his dreams despite all the risks that are involved, including death. No matter how many
obstacles come across Petits path, he fights through to make his dream a reality. Marsh creates this
incredible film by demonstrating Petit s strong passion through interviews, and gripping footage.
Marsh s use of interviews and testimonies in Man on Wire makes the audience feel as if they are a
part of the breathtaking adventures that Petit conquers. Petit introduces his unimaginable dream
by explaining, My story is a fairy tale.. One day those towers will be built. When they are they
will be the highest in the world. Now I need to have that. This reveals the beginning of Petit s
obsession with the twin towers. Showing the audience how important making this dream a reality
is to him. To Petit, each building he strung his wire and roamed across was a form of criminal
artistry. This beautiful crime was his way of conquering the world, one building at a time, as if
they were made especially for him. The connection that Petit felt with all the buildings, that seemed
to be made for him, was like a magnetic force that he could not deny. While going to walk across
the twin towers Petit says

The Illegal Steroid Use in The Major League Baseball
The purpose in constructing this report is to take a look and study the illegal steroid use in Major
League Baseball, and possible ways it can be exempt from the game forever. Use of performance
enhancing drugs is cheating and causes inequalities, in which new repercussions should be
implemented. These new rules should include a zero tolerance level, records stripped and not being
rewarded of their accomplishments; which is to include banishment from an admittance into the
Hall of Fame. Furthermore, it causes major health concerns and could end a player s career, along
with mitigating health problems down the road. The total elimination of steroids in MLB (Major
League Baseball) would make the atmosphere and fans appreciate the game as it... Show more

In 2003, David Boomer Wells claimed that up to 40% of major leaguers used steroids, and then
in 2005, Jose Canseco addressed the media with stating that 80% of major leaguers had taken
steroids, and have credited the drug for their entire career (Gilman, 2013, p.2). So the facts are
there, players are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one
time strike is followed without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude
of what he did was wrong. This solution would hold true to the integrity of the game and keep the
playing field fair across the board. For the fair players this zero tolerance level is a godsend.
Records Stripped
Players that are breaking records and accomplishing tasks a normal man cannot amount to without
the use of performance enhanced drugs, should not be applauded for. Athletes who use and test
positive for steroids will be banished from baseball s record books and will be ineligible to enter
the Hall of Fame. Players value their status as one of the greatest and are honored to be
accounted for in the record books, and if none of that is recorded then what would be the use of
cheating. It would be as if the player never participated or even played the game (Abramson, 2014,
p.2). Mark Maguire, a front runner currently awaiting his election into the Hall of Fame, has been

The Church Played A Huge Part Of A Christian Duty
Alternatively, It can be seen that the church played a huge part in philanthropy during this period.
The church advocated charity, regarding helping others as a Christian duty. Protestants, especially
evangelicals, believed that social conscience demanded social action, Religious philanthropists
believed that by helping the needy, they were helping their own kin because everyone was a
child of God. Good works were, and are part of the foundation of Christianity, and pave the way to
salvation . One such philanthropist was William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army. Booth,

Only using harmless red phosphorus, the workers were soon producing six million boxes a year.
A competitor paid its workers just two pennies a gross, while The Salvation Army paid their
employees twice that amount . The very act of paying their employers twice that amount would
have possibly been enough to keep destitution at bay. By opening a match factory, The Salvation
Army were in effect using philanthropy as a discrete form of relieving poverty. They were not
just handing out money to whomever needed it, they were providing the poor with a way to help
themselves. By providing work they decreased reliance on the state for poor relief. Moreover, by
providing better pay the welfare of the poor was improved therefore possibly lifting them out of
extreme poverty.
Philanthropy was thriving in the private sphere during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
There was a multitude of privately funded hospitals being established, one example being the
foundling hospital in London which was established by Royal Charter in 1739 by philanthropist
Thomas Coram as a refuge for abandoned children. Foundling children had since 1552 been
cared for by Christ s Hospital up until a decision in 1676 to exclude illegitimate children was
applied. Thereafter, the only option for illegitimate children was the parish poorhouse. Coram was
appalled at the numbers of dead and dying babies he saw in the streets of London, and the failure

Hormone Growth Promotants in Meat
Implantation of HGP in meat is a highly controversial issue not only in New Zealand but also
around the world. There is also many myths and misconceptions surrounding added HPG s in the
meat that we consume. In this report I will be discussing the effects of HGP in meat, the opinions
for and against this procedure and also my own personal stance and proposed societal action.
Hormones are certain chemicals that are naturally present in all organisms. These hormones are
heavily involved in an organisms body functions and are essential for reproduction, development
and growth. (a1) Hormones ability to stimulate growth is the reason that they are implanted in meat.

Through the development of this process there has been many subsequent effects on the animals,
human health, the economy and the environment. Many of these effects cause controversy and
need more research to be conducted to substantiate claims.
Our first area of immediate effect is on the animals who are being injected. The biological effects of
these hormonal implantations on the cattle is quite circumstantial as there is no serious detrimental
effects to the animals health in a properly conducted implantation. However, it is errors in this
process that lead to negative effects. Firstly the correct dosage must be administered because a high
dosage may cause blockage of the intestinal and reproductive systems. A high amount of hormones
can also cause weight to be gain too rapidly which can become painful for the animal and cause
crippling. Secondly, the age, weight and condition of the cattle must be taken into consideration.
The animal should be in the final fattening stage and mature enough to cope with the increase of
hormones. The correct dosage must be given to an

  • 4. Poem Analysis Essay Poem Analysis: I Go Back to May 1973 The poem being analyzed is entitled, I Go Back to May 1973 by Sharon Olds. In the beginning of the poem, the image of innocence is lost but as the reader goes deeper into the heart and core of the text, the tone rapidly spirals into violence as well as resentment. I m assuming that the author of the poem, Sharon Olds, is the narrator of this literary text. Sharon starts by reflecting her life story. She tells the tale of the beginning of her parent s relationship as two fresh college graduates who venture into the world of marriage. The couple started off in an optimistic account for they were both unassumingly innocent. Nevertheless, everything started to go downhill later in life as Sharon, ... The child, Sharon, would love to have the opportunity to go back in time and just warn them of the dark future that lies ahead of them. She says, they are about to Ramos 3 graduate, they are about to get married/ they are kids, they are dumb, all they know is they are/innocent, they would never hurt anybody. Relationship marketing has been operationalized using the model of trust and commitment. • 13. Andy Warhol 32 Soup Cans Analysis Andy Warhol s thirty two canvases titled 32 Soup Cans was created in 1962. This renowned American Pop Artist, known for his repeating reproductions and gaudy colors, produced this piece using the printmaking method. Warhol didn t want his paintings of mass produced commercial goods to be conceptually stimulating. He wanted to make his work relatable so that viewers could approach them and have a clear interpretation. Warhol replicated the appearance of manufactured objects and famous icons for the sake of expressing his view on modern culture in a manner that had nothing to do with personality or individual expression. According to Eric Shanes in his book titled Warhol, Warhol s 32 Soup Cans were initially displayed in a single line around the gallery walls. The original display maximized the repetitiousness of the imagery. The display was so spatially extended, and ultimately projected the fearsome notion that the whole universe was filled with Campbell s soup. Shane points out that Warhol developed the notion of taking an image familiar to millions and presenting it frontally, without painterly qualities, and with a flat surround (as though it was some kind of holy icon) (Shanes, 52). Shanes points out that Warhol formed an alliance between abstract expressionist paint handling and popular cultural imagery. Shanes also notes that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to answer this question, it is necessary first to define the major ethical theories, which are utilitarianism, deontology and virtue ethics, before determining whether there are any other options. After that, the ethical needs, problems and limitations of work organizations will have to be examined so that the different theories can be evaluated in this context. It will also be important to draw a distinction between the terms accurate and useful as these actually result in two different questions the answer to which need not necessarily be the same. Another essential part of this discussion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this it has the property of universalisality in that the right action will be right for everyone. However, as a pragmatic and functional system of moral analysis, Utilitarianism has a number of difficulties. One of the major problems is the fact that it is extremely difficult to quantify happiness, and if it is not possible to decide which of several available actions produces the most happiness, it follows that it is not possible to decide which action is the right one. Also a particular action generating a high degree of happiness may have unforeseen consequences that have the opposite effect. Can it be morally right to have a completely innocent and well person killed if two seriously ill people could be saved by an organ transplantation? Is an action always and incontrovertibly right because it gives greatest happiness to the greatest number of people? Brady(1999) refutes this: the majority vote is not an ethic; it is a social choice technique. Deontology as promoted by Kant on the other hand denies that the right action is the one that produces the best consequences. It is based on a set of moral rules, and the right action is supposed to be the one that conforms with these rules, whereas certain other types of action are morally forbidden. He then said his goodbyes to the loved ones he left behind because he knew he had to move on regardless of the consequences: Goodbye everybody I ve got to go / Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth (Queen). Within the last two verses of the song, the listener hears a distinct change in the attitude of Freddie Mercury. Queen no longer uses soft, low tones to convey sadness and regret. Mercury now sounds powerful and angry and the corresponding lyrics match this new attitude. In a powerful and almost explosive tone, Mercury declares, So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye (Queen). Within this passage, Mercury speaks directly to those who would judge and condemn him for his homosexuality. He does the opposite of what firemen does, he starts fires instead of putting them out. What he really loves about his job is burning books. He s against society just like all the other firemen, at least for now. In the beginning Montag is active in society. It was a pleasure to burn, says Montag as he gladly burned books(Bradbury 1). This evidence shows how he loves to burn books. A lot of things he mention determined how he feels and what he feels is nothing at all. She believes pink has become a color that differentiates a girl from a boy, therefore creating a gap between genders. However, the author failed to address the psychological problems pink might have on girls. The color doesn t define who she is or who she s trying to be. It s just one of infinite colors that exist on Earth. In this generation, pink seems to have been a feminine color while blue has been a masculine color. There is a difference between what girls and boys like. Undoubtedly, that s how nature works. Girls are better in communication and they are also more mature than boys their age, which is also another common stereotype. Yet, boys continue to be successful. Girls have never been more educated or more successful as this generation. The number of graduating girls has increased and more percentages of girls graduate than boys. Americans throw away billions of pounds of food, worth billions of dollars and enough to feed millions of people each year. Wasted food is the single largest component of American landfills. Every year, around 40 percent of all food goes unconsumed in the United States. This amounts to Americans squandering as much as $218 billion annually growing, processing and transporting food that never gets eaten. That is a fairly large waste of resources considering all that freshwater and land, all that fertilizer and energy used was for nothing. Washington Post . Even Europe does a better job of curtailing food waste and food waste in Europe alone could feed 200 million hungry people! Food waste is often described as a farm to fork problem. Produce is lost in fields, warehouses, packaging, distribution, supermarkets, restaurants and fridges. Why? We purchase too many food products, our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, and we buy what is not expected. One of the many reasons Americans have a big amount of food waste every year comes right from the source: farming. Farming is a major contributor to food waste in the United States for different reasons. There is substantial evidence that some 70% of all change initiatives fail. This article explores the argument that a potentially signiп¬Ѓcant reason for this is a lack of alignment between the value system of the change intervention and of those members of an organization undergoing the change. However, the problem with such explanations is that implicitly or explicitly they assume that there is a one best way to manage change and that failure arises from not adhering to it (Burnes, 1996). Confusingly, there are quite a few one best way approaches to change (Collins, 1998; By, 2005). For example, Kanter (Kanter et al., 1992) offered her 10 commandments for successful change, Pugh (1993) has his four principles of change and Kotter (1996) put forward his eight step model. Two, however, have stood out from the rest. From the 1950s to the 1970s, organization development (OD) tended to be seen as the best way to manage change (French and Bell, 1999; Cummings and Worley, 2005). In the 1980s and 1990s, the emergent/processual approach came to dominate the п¬Ѓeld, at least among academics (Dawson, 1994; Orlikowski, 1996; Weick, 2000). As Dunphy and Stace (1993, p. 905) argued: . . . managers and consultants need a model of change that is essentially a situational or contingency model, one that indicates how to vary change strategies to achieve optimum п¬Ѓt with the changing environment. The disorder is seven times more common in females than males and may occur in as much as 8% of the women within their lifetimes (Arnold et al., 2008). • 27. Comparing The Attitude Of Satan And Jesus In Paradise Lost Many examples exist that contrast the attitudes of Satan and Jesus. Paradise Lost is one such example that displays the negative attitudes of pride, hate, and rebellion that Satan has. On the contrary, the Bible is an excellent source that shows Jesus attitudes of humility, love, and submission. Firstly, Satan had an attitude of pride in Paradise Lost. One example of his pride was when he said he desired, being the contrary of His high will. This shows his pride because Satan just wants to contradict God. Another example of pride was when Satan said, to be weak is miserable, implying that serving God, the Creator of all things, was a sign of weakness. A final example of Satan s pride was he said it was, better to reign in hell then serve in Heaven. This also shows that Satan viewed serving God as undesirable. However, the Bible shows Jesus has the quality of humility. This is shown in Luke 4:24, when it said, Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his home town. This shows humility because Jesus could have demanded the respect he deserves, but he did not. Instead he allowed himself to be shut out and rejected. Another example of Jesus humility came from Matthew 20:28a, even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve. This clearly shows humility because Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior came to serve. Similarly, John 13:5a says, Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples feet, again showing servanthood instead of Lordship. Secondly, Satan had the attitude of hatred. This is shown when he said, farthest from Him is best. This displays that Satan does not want to be anywhere God is which is why God created hell, as a place where Satan can dwell without God s presence. Another time hatred was shown was when Satan said, ever to do ill our sole delight. This paints a picture that Satan hates people so much that the only way he is happy was when people suffer. Although Satan hates everyone, Jesus is full of lovefor people. This is shown in John 14:2b, which says, In my Father s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? This shows Jesus love because he has gone to Heaven to prepare a place for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marry Katherine, as he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Usually, this character bares strong, positive traits. However, in the case of A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller, the protagonist Eddie can be difficult at times to agree with. In 1950 s New York, Eddie, a hard working longshoreman, lives with his wife Beatrice and his niece Catherine, who they raised. Catherine is a smart young woman with a close relationship with her uncle, even though he still views her as a baby. Generally we come up with very clever solutions to medical problems, after all, we have had many years of experience. Zika is a subtle, easily transmitted, virus first found in monkeys living in Uganda in 1947. It was then found in humans in 1952, and spreading to South America starting the largest outbreaks in modern times. This virus is present in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific. Eighty percent of the people infected with Zika do not even develop symptoms. In turn, this halted the awareness of the disease. When the Ebola outbreak started to spread the usual fierce announcement of the virus was delayed, and even after the presence of the virus was announced, it had already spread too much. The difference between the two viruses is the action taken by the countries. Guinea and other Ebola plagued countries, with the help of international health organizations, took measures to inform and help the public after an initial delay. This came with obvious effects; Guinea has left the forty two day period (two Ebola incubation cycles) and entered the ninety two day enhanced surveillance period with no cases whatsoever. During this period any suspected cases will be immediately handled with extreme care. In Brazil, however, corruption, poor sewage and water systems, and negligent health care providers have not helped in the fight against Zika. The rainforests that have been chopped down in Brazil are just one giant breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry Zika, and this is just amplifying the spread of the virus. Within the African rainforest, recent periods of drought alternated with wet seasons spread the virus. After a prolonged period of drought the fruit trees will stop producing fruit and the animals will grow hungry. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Use of performance enhancing drugs is cheating and causes inequalities, in which new repercussions should be implemented. These new rules should include a zero tolerance level, records stripped and not being rewarded of their accomplishments; which is to include banishment from an admittance into the Hall of Fame. Furthermore, it causes major health concerns and could end a player s career, along with mitigating health problems down the road. So the facts are there, players are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one time strike is followed without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude of what he did was wrong.
