Comparing And Contrasting Views Of Presidents Hoover And...
Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt were both Presidents, however, they both had
completely opposing views. President Hoover believed in rugged individualism , where every person
looked solely for their personal gain, whereas President Roosevelt believed that the government
should directly help its people when they fall into economic issues. During the time leading up to the
Great Depression, Hoover was in denial, claiming that the government was strong . Hoover did not
want to injure the initiative and enterprise of the American people , so when he took action, it was too
late. He created a few relief groups, like the President s Organization for Unemployment Relief
(POUR) and the Restruction Finance Corporation (RFC). Both plans,

Essay On Bacteriophage Therapy
According to CDC and EMA statistic the annual death toll due to multi drug resistant bacterial
infections is estimated at 23,000 in the US and 25,000 in Europe (Aminor). Western medicine depends
on antibiotics for everyday illnesses but, antibiotics are becoming a serious issue for future healthcare.
The United States is being propelled into an era of medicine where the effectiveness of antibiotics is
rapidly declining. In the United States, methicillin resistant S.aureus (MRSA) infections alone account
for more deaths than HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis combined (Abedon). Investing in alternate
approaches to medical treatment is necessary and because of that bacteriophage therapy is starting to
gain interest. The problem that arises is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Common names that are associated with the first investigation into the phenomenon of phages are
Frederick Twort, a medically trained bacteriologist from England, and Felix d Herelle, a French
Canadian microbiologist. The history of phage discovery and research is so complicated that the
scientific world has simply accepted referring to the discovery as the Twort d Herelle phenomenon.
Twort was the first to notice and describe the characteristics of lysis associated with phage infection in
1915. However, Abedon states that it was d Herelle who identified the source of this phenomenon and
coined the term bacteriophage . D Herelle was also the first to use phages therapeutically and
successfully (2). Due to the limitations of the time, and the poor delivery of phages where intended,
most of d Herelle s work was scrutinized throughout the scientific community.
Treatments throughout the world had mixed success from the very beginning. In one trial of phage
therapy in India, 1931, d Herelle observed a 90% reduction in mortality with 74 lethal outcomes in the
control group and only 5 in the experimental group. However, because of the lack of reliability and
other limitations that were present during the time period, phage therapy was widely dismissed by
most of western medicine, especially after the introduction of pharmaceutical antibiotics in the 1940 s
(Lin, Koskella and Lin). Even though experimenting in the United States was

Stately Home In Elizabethan England
The main reason for building a stately home in Elizabethan times was to demonstrate the successful
career of its owner How far does the study of Hardwick Hall support this statement?
Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Shrewsbury or simply Bess of Hardwick was one of the most notable
figures in Elizabethan society made rich by four beneficial marriages and her investments in glass and
mining. Her stately home Hardwick Hall is the prime example of the upper tier of Elizabethan society.
How they presented themselves, how they lived and how they advertised their wealth. But to what
extent does the building tell us about the purpose of other stately homes and the impression the owners
are trying to make? To answer this question, we will look at the reasons Hardwick Hall is as it is, what
Bess is trying to convey or prove. Namely, her wealth, intellect and pedigree. Her right to be where
she is, the cutting of ties to her lesser life and the importance of herself in the Shrewsbury dynasty.
Hardwick Hall is Elizabeth s way of exhibiting her great wealth. She, by both marriage and successful
business ventures, became the second richest woman in England at ... Show more content on

The Tragic Character of Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar...
The Tragic Character of Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire
*No Works Cited To state the obvious, a tragic agent is one that is the subject of a tragic event or
happening. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche Dubois is this agent. She experiences numerous
things, and has certain dynamics that solidify her tragic elements. Many essayists describe these
elements and they give clear conceptions of her tragic nature. Aristotle has written of many qualities
one must have in order to fit in the tragic category. Firstly, Aristotle contends that a tragic agent must
be of the nobility . Now this is not to say that Blanche is of a royal descent, although she acts like it,
but it has been interpreted as one who is of a noble cause or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Her reversal comes when her sister s husband, Stanley, suddenly rapes her. Though all this time
Blanche sought a smooth and new sexual lifestyle, she once again engages in a sexual deviance. These
three things are what make Aristotle s tragic agent a truth in Tennessee Williams play. As if Blanche
DuBois hadn t embodied enough of one s idea of a tragic agent, Arthur Schopenhauer finds more
qualities in her that further the inclination that she was meant for tragedy. Schopenhauer alludes to two
main ideas that Blanche applies to. The first being that of desire. Desire brought Blanche to Elysian
Fields in two ways: literally on a streetcar named Desire, and conceptually as an escape from past
horrors and the want to seek a better life. Desire is the one vice that Schopenhauer believes is the end
all be all destruction of an agent. As long as one continues to have desires, that agent will continue
down his or her path of inevitable destruction. Which brings him to the next point: Resignation.
Resignation is the act of cutting off all desires one might have. It is a final action one completes when
they completely cleanse themselves of their greedy desires. Blanche does this in her last line, Whoever
you are I have always depended on the kindness of strangers. In the last scene, Blanche has continued
to fool herself and attempt to fool others by telling stories of Shep Huntleigh coming to take her on a
cruise. She obviously has not resigned the

Universal Love By Stephen T. Asma
The idea of universal love is one that is prevalent in the media. With the news filled with grim stories
and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race
relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for
humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking why we can t just love one
another ? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times.
Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject.
Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored.
The first argument given toward universal love is that humanity should care for and love for those
close to them, but that humans also have the ability to care for and love everyone around them. The
author mentions two different and important social theorists that believe in this theory. The first is
Peter Singer. Singer explains his idea in his book The Expanding Circle . He believes that it is a
person s ethical duty to help those in their closest circle, of family and friends. But he also believes
that that circle grows and expands to encompass other individuals as well, because our communities
and societies are just one small part of many with the same needs and wants as us. Singer invokes
mathematics to explain the circle should indeed grow to include others. That is until we

Mayan Calendars
To begin, Have you ever wonder who came up with the calendar we have today? Before the current
calendar, we have today there were many different kinds of calendars. When there weren t any
calendars, people used the sun, planet, moon, and stars to figure out the season, month, and year.
There were many calendars before the current one we have today. One example was the Iraq calendar.
The Iraq calendar had divided the days into 12 periods. There were also many errors in the making of
calendars, like the Gregorian calendar. Other calendars predicted a lot of things. The Mayan calendar
claimed that the world will end on December 21, 2012. These different calendars represent the culture
during the ancient times. Next, people depended on the sun, moon, planets, and stars to determine
seasons, months, and years. The earliest calendars like the Egyptian calendar were based on the moon
cycles. According to Source 1, The earliest Egyptian calendar was based on the moon s cycles, but

Hebrew Word Study Nephesh
Word Study on Nephesh
Young Hoon (John) Kim
The Hebrew word Nephesh occurs 754x throughout the Old Testament, Psalms use 144x, three times
of verb form (to exhale), and the plural form of Nephesh occurs fifty tiems. Though, KJV translates
the term as life 280x, personality 220x, throat thirty three times, and neck four times, the standard
gloss is soul/life. A verb form of Nephesh to exhale (Exod. 23:12; 31:17; 2 Kings 16:14) shows that
this word is closely related to living being. Moreover, the expression hayyâ alive (Gen. 2:7) indicates
that it is being used to describe people or animals. Furthermore, when Nephesh being used as subject

As an object, nāsal deliver (Josh. 2:13; Isa. 44:20), mālat to save (1 Sam. 19:11), hālas rescue (Ps.

The word Nephesh has three primary senses. Sense 1 is living being as general, which is closely
related to a life. Sense 2 is soul, and sense 3 is throat, which closely relates to the verb form of
Nephesh to breath. Examples of sense 1 refer to the precious individual living self (Ex. 21:23; Lev.

12, 15f; Lev. 11:10, 46; Ezek. 47:9). Sense 2 is connected to sense 1 but refers to sphere aspect. When
the word refers to soul, Nephesh is being used to connect with emotional state of joy, Bring joy to the
soul of your servant, for I long for you, O Lord (Ps. 86:4). Not only of emotional state, but also it is
being used as appreciation, Pleasant words are ... sweet to the soul (Prov. 16:23), Knowledge will be

Society, Gender Roles and Gender Conflict
Time and time again gender conflict is brought to the attention of the public in various forms. In our
time someone who wants to make a point about gender conflict and the inequality that is present will
be more likely to use television or song to reach their audience. This however is a fairly new
technology. Books or some form of writing on the other hand have been around for thousands of
years. Gender conflict is nothing new. It is not as though one day it just came out of no where. It has
been around since the dawn of time. What is a man s place and what is a woman s place in society or
is there really a specific place at all; further more are we even really that different to begin with? ...

Joan is able to provide the reader with a vivid description of the anxieties and ordeals of being a
female throughout childhood and adolescence. She starts out with the simple desire to love and be
loved, to find acceptance. These desires are not gender specific, as both males and females strive to be
love and be loved and find acceptance. The difference is how women and men actually find these. Due
to constant victimization by others a pattern of outsiders becomes Joan s guard and vengeance. Joan s
early misery and resentment causes her to see life as her enemy. Because Joan is made to feel as
though she is an object, as many women in her time as well as our own feel too, Joan learns to use
idealization as a weapon that will reach her emotionally unreachable mother: Joan claims to defy
every effort to make her reduce out of a fear of assimilation and loss of autonomy: I wasn t going to
let myself be diminished, neutralized. I wouldn t ever let her make me over in her image, thin and
beautiful (Atwood, 85 6). This in her mind would be surcoming to the gender stereotype that woman
not only should fit into, but had to fit into. It was her own way of rebelling against what a woman
should be and being herself. Whether this was the correct way to go about it, her reasons were her
reasons and that is what is important to her. Unfortunately this only caused a vicious circle. The more
she rebelled against the gender norm for her

Argumentative Essay On Hero Vs Monster
Hero Versus Monster
The classic story of hero versus monster has been around for as long as we as human have been telling
them. There is something about a good hero, or even more so a good monster that fascinates and
intrigues the human mind. We love stories of underdogs prevailing against the odds just as much as we
enjoy the monsters they are put up against. Modern day hero versus monster stories take place
between radically different parties then that of early human history however. Often today the hero and
the monster can be the same person, with ourselves being our worst enemies.
Back in early human history, complications, disagreements, and issues generally took place between
two parties. Introspection, the examination or observation of one s own mental and emotional
processes, was not as prevalent as it is today. While our modern day society still deals with issues
between two individuals, many of the issues we are confronted with now are internal struggles with
ourselves. Low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term hero in modern day English is defined as someone who is admired or idealized for courage,
outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, but who and as well as what makes a hero is more up to
the eyes of the beholder than anything else. While a hero for many is someone that plays a role model
figure in their lives, many a time do they forget that they themselves are one of the most heroic and
courageous persons in their lives. Tasks such as overcoming crippling depression, working up the
courage to step out of one s comfort zone and try something new, or working through a traumatic
death in a family are all examples of invisible heroes, heroes that cannot be seen but are felt instead.
These invisible heroes play a role in shaping us into who we are, and many times fight battles within

Theme Of Feminism In Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Anthem is Against Feminism
In the novel Anthem, by Ayn Rand, the theme of female inferiority is shown throughout the novel.
Rand has been known to portray women as obedient and submissive to men in most of her novels. In
Anthem Rand shows how women are inferior to men by; showing that a woman s highest priority is to
follow a man, that men can eliminate and redetermine a woman s identity, and that women are only
there to fit the needs of a man.
In the novel, Liberty begs to never be left behind while they are in the Uncharted Forest because she
cannot live without him. Rand s view on the responsibility of women in a society is that women are a
minority in the government. Rand shows the lack of importance of females in government because,
there were five members of the Council, three of the male gender and two of the female (25 26). She
shows that the opinions of women do not have as much value as the opinion of a male. The inequality
in government represents the imbalance in opportunities and rights for women and the majority vote
favoring the men takes away the voice of the women in government. After Liberty and Equality run
away to the Uncharted Forest, Liberty shows her allegiance to Equality when she tells him: we have
followed you... and we shall follow you wherever you go. ... Do as you please with us but do not send
us away from you (82 83). Liberty promises her obedience that she will die with him if she needs to.
Rand creates the picture of a woman to sit at the feet of men and support their every need.
Equality renames Liberty two times; this is Rand s way of demonstrating man s dominance over
women. Someone s name is their identity, so him changing her name to what
he sees best is changing her into what he wants her to be. The first time he names her the Golden One
(41), and then again when they are in the forest, Gaea... the mother of a new kind of gods (99).
Equality shows that he has complete control over her and whatever he wants her name to be is what
she goes along with. When Equality sees Liberty for the first time he describes her hair as; golden as
the sun; their hair flew in the wind, shining and wild, as if it defied men to restrain it. (39). It is ironic
when Equality says that

The First Sex Offender Register Law
United States
California enacted the first sex offender register law in 1944. However, sex offender registers in the
United States did not become widespread until the 1990s. The Jacob Wetterling Act 1994 was named
after 11 year old Jacob Wetterling who was abducted and to this day has never been found. The Jacob
Wetterling Act implemented the first nation wide sex offender register. Originally, the concept of a sex
offender register was intended to for use solely by law enforcement; it was not an intention for the sex
offender register to be public. However in 1996, Megan s Law was added to the Wetterling Crimes
Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act 1994 and made it a requirement for
the information on sex offender registers to be accessible by the public. Megan s Law was enacted as a
result of a heinous crime where 7 year old Megan Kanka was raped and murdered by her neighbour,
who had two previous convictions for sexually assaulting young girls. In 2006, Congress passed the
Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act. This Act required states to enact stricter registration
requirements, including an increase in the penalty for not registering and more frequent verification of
sex offenders locations. Since 2006 public access to sex offender registers has been accessible on the
Internet in most states. On these websites you can search for an offender by name or location, and find

John Locke s Second Treatise Of Civil Government
John Locke
Locke wrote the Second Treatise of Civil Government in 1690. It was written as a defense of the
overthrow of King James II and rise to power of William and Mary. This was known as the Glorious
Revolution.
As Locke references the laws of nature, he continues to say that they are something that men are
bound to by birth. Locke says that the laws of nature state that man is in a state also of equality,
meaning that all men are created equal in nature. Locke differentiates between the two by saying that
the laws of man are something that a man agrees to once he enters society while the laws of nature
apply to a man from birth.
Locke states that it is necessary for man to give up certain liberties under the laws of nature when he

He felt that the structure of society in France was unjust. He argued that laws would only work if they
were supported by the people that they applied to. This is also a time of societal and political unrest in
the United States, whom France allied with in the Revolutionary War.
The fundamental question is, How is a method of associating to be found which will defend and
protect using the power of all the person and property of each member and still enable each member
of the group to obey only himself and to remain as free as before? A way to reword this question may
be: How does a system that relies on dependence allow for individuals to preserve their own rights and
freedoms? Once people become dependent on each other, it is hard to become independent again. It
can be hard to maintain freedoms.
The social contract is that, The individual member alienates himself totally to the whole community

The Symbols Of A Wonder Woman As A Wonder Woman
She is a dark haired beautiful woman who is a warrior armed with a lasso of truth (Cocca 124 126
Wonder Woman); she is Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman s manifestation in comic books
demonstrates a symbol of a strong woman with her own power. Inspiring girls to change in their own
way through raising awareness for important issues meanwhile providing a positive role model that
Wonder Woman stands for. Some worry about the effect that images of bondage may counter Wonder
Woman s strong feminine role. However, she breaks free of the constraints of social norms that allow
her to become even stronger. She is more than a pretty face and has inspired real world change.
Wonder Woman is a role model for girls as a symbol of female power with inspiring empowerment
despite critiques that her image is permeated with bondage and sexualization.
Wonder Woman provides girls with a symbol of female strength and power. Comics are narrative
image driven stories, not literal, thus allowing for various interpretations. They are rich with
symbolism, color, and emotion that creates the rich stories of these heroes (Spieldenner 238). What
symbolic representation does Wonder Woman have? Batman s image is reducible to a bat symbol;
(Spieldenner 238) then reducing Wonder Woman into a single symbol it would be a woman. Over the
years, she has changed costumes, colors, and origins thought storylines meanwhile always being a
female representation (Yonkey Spieldenner 238 Cocca 98 101). The one thing that Wonder Woman is
known for is female representation. However, there are critiques that Wonder Woman may not provide
a role model for all girls because she does not always represent girls of color. Pérez s Wonder Woman
was more racially diverse as were the Amazons (Cocca 98). However, Wonder Woman is often
remembered as a white female which may lie in the Greek myths of the Amazons. Greek myths depict

Atp Synthesis Essay
ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate, it is a useable form of energy for cells, the energy is trapped in
a chemical bond that is released and it is used to dive other reactions that need energy. Photosynthetic
organisms use the sunlight to get energy in order to synthesize their own fuel. Chemical energy is then
made by converting the sunlight in order to compel the synthesise of the carbohydrates from the
carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is then released when the carbohydrate is synthesized.
Photosynthesis is on two parts, first there is the light reactions in where the light is converted into
chemical energy which is the ATP, and then this is stacked in the chloroplasts membranes in where the
ATP and the electron carrier are used in the second part. The second part of the process is called light
independent and it occurs in the chloroplasts in the stroma, the carbon dioxide produces sugar in a
series of reaction called the Calvin cycle.
In a non photosynthesis the fuel has to be taken and the most common fuel is the sugar glucose the
other molecules like fats or protein can give energy but it has to be converted into glucose or
something that can be used in a glucose metabolism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Music instruments are one of the most influential characteristics that define music culture and how it

Cajon is a percussion instrument, typically a cuboid, introduced in flamenco music in 1970s (
Instruments of the World Cajon). Five sides of the cajon are made mainly of thick pine or other white
wood. The sixth side (striking surface) is made of plywood and it is named tapa and has a sound hole

Summary Of The Movie 1967 Film
This 1967 film is about a college graduate who has an affair with his dads business partners wife. He
then falls for their daughter leading to problems and the climax. With the movie being a little bit older
there are many sound, light, editing, and movement effects that could be fixed. As quick as 6 minutes

For instance, 36:40 37:58 Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin are having an emotional conversation. This
scene is over a minute long without any cuts made. That created the scene and conversation to be very
boring because we are not shown any of the emotion on the characters faces. If there were cuts
throughout the conversation, the scene would have been made much more interesting and would have
drew in the audience more. Throughout the movie some of the cuts during scenes were actually
pauses. Many transitions were just a few seconds of black screen leaving the audience sitting there
with nothing to look at. On the flip side there were some good transitions done by using fading. For
example, when Benjamin is in the pool they show him laying and fade that to him with Mrs. Robinson
right on top of the other scene. Another good transition they would do to make the scene more
interesting was focusing in and out on certain characters. This effect added emotion with a smooth

Chemical Reactions That React The Most Efficiently For...
h Chemicals Will React the Most Efficiently for Heat and Eat Packs
Aim:
To identify which reactions will be the most efficient, in order to heat pre cooked meals.
Theory:
It is stated that all chemical reactions involve energy changes. Where a substance is stored with
chemical energy and has the potential to be converted to heat (insert cited thing). Exothermic and
Endothermic reactions are included in the changes in heat of energy. As Exothermic reactions release
heat, and transfer the temperature to its surroundings. This is because the energy absorbed to split the
bonds of the reactants release less heat energy than the product made by the bonds. An endothermic
reaction however absorbs heat from its surrounding as the reactant doesn t supply enough energy
therefore it absorbs energy from its environment. In addition, endothermic reactions release more heat
energy in order to break the bonds made by the products.
The bonds in the exothermic and endothermic occur during the experiment, as the breaking and
making of the chemical bonds are involved. Exothermic is energy that is released when any chemical
bond is formed and Endothermic is energy which must be added when a chemical bond is broken. It is
recognized that with exothermic reactions, the products will contain a lower energy with the reactants.
Endothermic reactions however have products which contain a higher energy than the reactants. This
is because exothermic reactions release heat, and in the progress

The Controversy Over the Electoral College System
A number of Americans fail to realize that when they vote they are not voting for the president and
vice president directly, but for electors who then cast their ballots in the Electoral College. Until the
recent battle between Gov. George W. Bush and Vice president Al Gore for the presidency, this new
generation of American voters has never witnessed a controversial election. Historically, there have
been problematic elections allowing voters to question this system. The Electoral College is now a

Characteristics Of Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Narcissism is one of the most common disorders, known to scientists as the most heritable personality
disorder in humans (Thomaes, et al ). It affects temperament, an individual s nature pertaining to their
permanent behavior, which can be affected through inheritance and their surroundings. In humans, the
earliest stages in life affect the development of temperament the most, according to Thomaes et al ( ).
It is also understood that the culture and atmosphere surrounding a human affects the maturation of
narcissistic tendencies (handbook ). Thus, when a child evolves into an adult narcissist it can be
inferred that at least one of their parents also displayed characteristics of narcissistic personality
disorder. The wide range of self absorbed mannerisms includes holding extravagant and unstable
views of oneself, a need to seek self validation from others, infidelity, and often addictions (Thomaes
et al ). A narcissist can be covert, a self absorbed introvert that often experiences shame and similar
emotions, or overt, a selfish extravert that blocks negativity through aggressive anger (Soyer et al ).
In Wuthering Heights, four children grow up to be narcissists in a very extreme matter. The father, Mr.
Earnshaw never displays any of these characteristics in the novel. With no concern for himself, he
picks up an orphan off the streets in Heathcliff, and brings him into his home despite the protests of
his family members (Bronte ). A narcissist would never do something so

Social Motivation Of Social Ministry
Introduction Many churches have moved beyond the atonement only gospel to become socially
involved in their community in providing ministries such as, relief services, personal development
services and community development services. This strategy, of social involvement by the church has
been welcomed by many and has increased positive perception of the church and by extension
amplified the impact of the church. But, what is the motivation behind these social involvements of
the church. Is it something that they do in order to be more effective and relevant in sharing the
gospel? Or is it something they do because it is genetically linked to their faith? In this paper, the
writer will argue that in principle, social ministry should not be done as a means to make the church
relevant. That is, the motivation behind church based social interventions should not be solely based
on being relevant in order to be more effective in carrying out its mission, which is to make disciples.
The writer proposes that social ministry ought to be a natural outworking of the church. As such, a
church cannot be considered authentic if it is not involved in social ministry. Self benefit Motivation If
the church is motivated to be socially involved because of the need to make the ministry of church
relevant, in order to be more effective in carrying out its mission, then the focus is not on the need of
the person or community but, rather it is on the church achieving its missional goal. In this

Pros and cons
The United Kingdom will not join the single European currency with the first wave of countries on 1
January 1999. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, said in October that, although the
government supported the principle of the single currency, Britain would not be ready to join at least
until the second wave of countries join in 2002. He added that the UK should, however, begin to
prepare for monetary union.
There are many possible advantages and disadvantages that the government had to consider:
Advantages:
1. A single currency should end currency instability in the participating countries (by irrevocably
fixing exchange rates) and reduce it outside them. Because the Euro would have the enhanced
credibility of being used in a large currency zone, it would be more stable against speculation than
individual currencies are now. An end to internal currency instability and a reduction of external
currency instability would enable exporters to project future markets with greater certainty. This will
unleash a greater potential for growth.
2. Consumers would not have to change money when travelling and would encounter less red tape
when transferring large sums of money across borders. It was estimated that a traveller visiting all
twelve member states of the (then) EC would lose 40% of the value of his money in transaction

The first is of course the continuous advancement of technology. As technology keeps advancing, so
do our video games, and so do the trends. The newest video game trend are video games where you
put a head set on and it feels like you are in the game. It responds to your head movements, for
example, when you turn right, you look right in the game. People in our society always want
something new. They get bored with things very quickly, which also causes new trends. Companies
look to use this advancement in technology to come up with new video games so they can make more
money. Right now in America, consumers are spending 22 billion dollars a year on video games. If
companies can keep making more advancements and creating new trends, Americans will keep
spending more and more money, which means more profits for the companies. It is a continuous circle
that may never stop. And why this happens, is simply because Americans cannot get enough video

The Debate Of Wisdom Literature
Introduction
Wisdom literature has long been part of the Jewish tradition with a large section of the Old Testament
devoting itself to it. Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, the Wisdom of Solomon, and the Wisdom
Psalms make up this literature. Job, dates from the tenth century B,C and has a philosophical and
theological reflection on why the righteous suffer. The suggestion is that this is an orderly made
cosmos and ultimately all injustices will be turned to good. Proverbs, written in its final form in the
third century B.C. is a collection of aphorisms and poems within the relationship between wisdom,
righteousness and religious devotion. In tone and form wisdom literature differs from divine
revelation and is grounded in observation of and human reflection upon experience. Furthermore,
unlike the laws of the Pentateuch, which were proposed in coming from God, and unlike the prophets,
who claim to speak the word of the Lord , on God s behalf, wisdom does not purport to be truth (Borg:
2001:148). The conventional world view of some wisdom writings is that righteousness leads to an
ordered universe.
Wisdom literature comes in two major categories: Proverbial wisdom consisting of short, succinct
sayings which provide basic rules for personal happiness and welfare. The book of Proverbs is a
classic example of this within Holy Scripture. Speculative wisdom consists of monologues (e.g.
Ecclesiastes) or dialogues (e.g. Job). This form of wisdom literature is practical and

Essay on Virtue as Habit
Virtue as Habit
The aim of this essay is to examine the following question. Does it make a difference in moral
psychology whether one adopts Aristotle s ordinary or Immanuel Kant s revisionist definition of virtue
as a moral habit? Suppose it is objected, at the outset, that these definitions cannot be critically
compared because their moral theories are, respectively, aposteriori and apriori, and so
incommensurable. Two points of commensurability and grounds for comparative evaluation are two
basic problems that any theory in moral psychology must address. They are moral ignorance (I don t
know what I ought to do) and weakness (I don t do what I know I ought to do).(1)
In the Nicomachean Ethics (hereafter Ethics), Aristotle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . uniformity of action which by frequent repetition has
become a necessity, then it is not a skill proceeding from
freedom and accordingly not a moral skill (66).
Further, inner freedom is a rational self control which enables one to subdue one s emotions and to
govern one s passions (67). Essential here is his claim that a virtue is not a free skill unless it is a free
act of a moral will which in adopting a rule also declares it to be a universal law (66 67). Kant s
concept of willing (i) freely and (ii) universally leads to his revisionist definition of virtue as moral
habit.
The key to (i) is to be found in his insistence on the cognitive certainty of the following metaphysical
thesis. Even if the phenomenal self is completely determined causally, the moral self is free because it
is noumenal (see the Critique of Practical Reason 28 34, 43 52, 55 59, 100 106; hereafter Practical
Reason). He claims that the noumenal self is a cause imminent in experience because it is an efficient
cause through Ideas (50). In short, Kant rejects the formation of moral habits through repetition in
order to protect radically the freedom of the moral agent from phenomenal and scientific determinism.
The key to (ii) is Kant s rejection of Aristotle s following advice. Since the cognitive results of a kind
of reasoning is determined by its subject matter, it is foolish to require of moral reasoning the certainty
and precision one can expect

The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan Era, which was named after Queen Elizabeth I, is often referred to as the Golden Age
of England. It was a time of great change for England. It was a time of new ideas and new ways of
thinking. William Shakespeare played an enormous role in the Elizabethan theatre; his unique writing
style in The Taming of The Shrew influenced modern day literature. Queen Elizabeth played a huge
role in the Elizabethan era ( Queen ). The reign of Queen Elizabeth I is referred to as The Golden Age
( Queen ). Elizabeth was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn ( Queen

was gifted with knowledge, she spoke five fluent languages ( Queen ). Life continued on with more
complications but on November seventeenth 1558 Elizabeth took the throne of England ( Queen ).
Queen Elizabeth enjoyed watching playwrights. Watching plays was one of her many hobbies and she
impacted plays heavily because she was a huge supporter. Social class was also greatly impacted
during the Elizabethan time period. Commoners were the poor people who had to have the no high

Solutions-Focused Therapy Essay
Solutions focused therapy is a relatively new and welcomed therapy developed by Steve de Shazer
and his wife Insoo Kim Berg, in 1979 at their institute, the Brief Family Therapy Center in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Guterman, 2010, p. 350). Shazer was interested in how to influence change
(Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on
problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and
more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008). The drawback
to solution focused therapy would be that for those not experienced, therapists may be unable to
decipher what real underlying issues are involved (Guterman, 2010). ... Show more content on

Clients in working with their therapists learn to rethink their situations. They learn to look at their life
as the glass half full, instead of almost empty. Showing clients how to spot the flowers in a sea of
weeds enables them to face adversity or misfortune with an attitude of, yes, that was a bad hit, but
how do we move on from here? Where do I want to go tomorrow? How am I going to get there?
Solutions focused therapy enables a client to multiply a smidgen of courage into enough to conquer a
problem. Assisting clients to re set their thinking stays with clients long after the therapy session has
ended, and is another excellent benefit of solutions focused therapy. Not surprisingly, Iveson (2002)
found that solutions focused therapy was effective in a severe phobia case, while he was working with
a client experiencing agoraphobia. According to the Mayo Clinic ( 2009) agoraphobia can severely
limit your ability to socialize, work, attend important events and even manage the details of daily life,
such as running errands (para. 1). In working with his client, Iveson discovered that the client did go
up and down stairs in her home that ran right beside the front door. Some days, the client had to sit on
the top step and talk herself into making the descent, but after time had passed, she could make the trip
down and back up. Once the client had remembered what she was able to do, Iveson concentrated on
that success, which was then followed by

Definitions And Historical View Of Gartner
1.3.1.3.1 IoT Definitions and Historical View
Gartner (2015) forecasts that in 2020 almost 20 billion devices will be connected together and form
the Internet of Things (IoT) of the future, which is a rise by fairly 2000% from 0.9 billion in 2009
(Gartner.com, 2015).
The topic of IoT has hoarded much interest to the point that it has been classified as a disruptive
technology (Downes, 2013, Feki et al., 2013). The concept of the Internet of Things is not new; it has
been around since the early 90s. It has been envisioned in many forms yet all the different visions
have one thing in common, the connectedness of devices (Donovan, 2014). In 1991, it was already
foretold that specialized elements of hardware and software connected together ... Show more content

Moreover, the Internet of Things, or as called by others, the Internet of Everything is a seen as a global
network of devices and machines that have the ability to interact and communicate with each other
(Kortuem et al., 2010, Lee and Lee, 2015). Seven years later, the International Telecommunication
Community adapted the definition of IoT in the ITU T Y.2060 (06/2012) publication stating that the
IoT is a global infrastructure for the information society that enables advanced services by
interconnecting physical and virtual things on the foundation of current and developing information
and communication technologies (ITU, 2015).
In addition to how the IoT has been defined by the ITU, there have been many variations of the
definition that revolve around the same centre but adapted to the view of the organisational entity that
is looking at the IoT model. In Atzori, Iera and Morabito (2010), the authors gather and funnel the
different IoT visions that had been proposed over the past years into three main groups. These groups
are: (1) Things oriented, where the emphasis is on the objects and finding models to integrate them,
(2) Internet oriented, where the focus is on different networking possibilities that would establish
efficient connections between the objects, and (3) Semantic oriented, which by using semantic
technologies the

Essay on Global Expansion
.The advantage of being the first mover gives the opportunity to gain control. Which could bring great
success and also the risk to fail. Both companies had the first mover advantage over other companies,
Both were capable of expanding their busniness and achiving customer satisfaction. Not with the same
level of achievement but both are still standing firm.
2. The difference is that for service company they must provide customer satisfaction and for a
manufacturing company they must provide product satisfaction. To achieve global success a service
company must have a good communication with their customers by having well trained employees.
The element is having excellent customer service. An obstable to global expansion is the high ... Show

The elements that a company needs to have global success is knowing the culture of the countries that
they are going to do business with and sending the right workers to the countries they will do best in
to do business. The obstacles for global expansion would be like not finding good supporting
countries like a company like boeing and now finding good staff that can do business in a certain
country.
3. They want to build relationships between other countries and their customers is a good thing.
Another good thing is that they want to hire people in that country and place that know it better and
have lived there because they would know where everything is and who lives there and needs what.
Some bad things though is since they have so many staff workers across the world that those business
could be inefficient and they could lose their relationship with the people and places and even
countries. Then DHL could start losing their high ranked reputation and lose a lot of business with
customers and other types of companies such as boeing and then they could even go bankrupt or out
of business for good.
4. DHL failed in the U.S. because of the Airborne Express, which they paid $1 billion for and ever
since it has been making them lose money. The dangers are that other companies are going to be
looking at them more and waiting for them to mess up so that they can step in and try to take over
there business.
5. You have too much to do with too few resources. You

  • 2. Comparing And Contrasting Views Of Presidents Hoover And... Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt were both Presidents, however, they both had completely opposing views. President Hoover believed in rugged individualism , where every person looked solely for their personal gain, whereas President Roosevelt believed that the government should directly help its people when they fall into economic issues. During the time leading up to the Great Depression, Hoover was in denial, claiming that the government was strong . Hoover did not want to injure the initiative and enterprise of the American people , so when he took action, it was too late. He created a few relief groups, like the President s Organization for Unemployment Relief (POUR) and the Restruction Finance Corporation (RFC). Both plans, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On Bacteriophage Therapy According to CDC and EMA statistic the annual death toll due to multi drug resistant bacterial infections is estimated at 23,000 in the US and 25,000 in Europe (Aminor). Western medicine depends on antibiotics for everyday illnesses but, antibiotics are becoming a serious issue for future healthcare. The United States is being propelled into an era of medicine where the effectiveness of antibiotics is rapidly declining. In the United States, methicillin resistant S.aureus (MRSA) infections alone account for more deaths than HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis combined (Abedon). Common names that are associated with the first investigation into the phenomenon of phages are Frederick Twort, a medically trained bacteriologist from England, and Felix d Herelle, a French Canadian microbiologist. The history of phage discovery and research is so complicated that the scientific world has simply accepted referring to the discovery as the Twort d Herelle phenomenon. Twort was the first to notice and describe the characteristics of lysis associated with phage infection in 1915. However, Abedon states that it was d Herelle who identified the source of this phenomenon and coined the term bacteriophage . D Herelle was also the first to use phages therapeutically and successfully (2). Due to the limitations of the time, and the poor delivery of phages where intended, most of d Herelle s work was scrutinized throughout the scientific community. Treatments throughout the world had mixed success from the very beginning. In one trial of phage therapy in India, 1931, d Herelle observed a 90% reduction in mortality with 74 lethal outcomes in the control group and only 5 in the experimental group. However, because of the lack of reliability and other limitations that were present during the time period, phage therapy was widely dismissed by most of western medicine, especially after the introduction of pharmaceutical antibiotics in the 1940 s (Lin, Koskella and Lin). Stately Home In Elizabethan England The main reason for building a stately home in Elizabethan times was to demonstrate the successful career of its owner How far does the study of Hardwick Hall support this statement? Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Shrewsbury or simply Bess of Hardwick was one of the most notable figures in Elizabethan society made rich by four beneficial marriages and her investments in glass and mining. Her stately home Hardwick Hall is the prime example of the upper tier of Elizabethan society. How they presented themselves, how they lived and how they advertised their wealth. But to what extent does the building tell us about the purpose of other stately homes and the impression the owners are trying to make? To answer this question, we will look at the reasons Hardwick Hall is as it is, what Bess is trying to convey or prove. Namely, her wealth, intellect and pedigree. The Tragic Character of Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire *No Works Cited To state the obvious, a tragic agent is one that is the subject of a tragic event or happening. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche Dubois is this agent. She experiences numerous things, and has certain dynamics that solidify her tragic elements. Many essayists describe these elements and they give clear conceptions of her tragic nature. Aristotle has written of many qualities one must have in order to fit in the tragic category. Firstly, Aristotle contends that a tragic agent must be of the nobility . Her reversal comes when her sister s husband, Stanley, suddenly rapes her. Though all this time Blanche sought a smooth and new sexual lifestyle, she once again engages in a sexual deviance. These three things are what make Aristotle s tragic agent a truth in Tennessee Williams play. As if Blanche DuBois hadn t embodied enough of one s idea of a tragic agent, Arthur Schopenhauer finds more qualities in her that further the inclination that she was meant for tragedy. Schopenhauer alludes to two main ideas that Blanche applies to. The first being that of desire. Desire brought Blanche to Elysian Fields in two ways: literally on a streetcar named Desire, and conceptually as an escape from past horrors and the want to seek a better life. Desire is the one vice that Schopenhauer believes is the end all be all destruction of an agent. As long as one continues to have desires, that agent will continue down his or her path of inevitable destruction. Which brings him to the next point: Resignation. Resignation is the act of cutting off all desires one might have. It is a final action one completes when they completely cleanse themselves of their greedy desires. Blanche does this in her last line, Whoever you are I have always depended on the kindness of strangers. In the last scene, Blanche has continued to fool herself and attempt to fool others by telling stories of Shep Huntleigh coming to take her on a cruise. She obviously has not resigned the ... • 7. Universal Love By Stephen T. Asma The idea of universal love is one that is prevalent in the media. With the news filled with grim stories and horror many people are calling to the idea of loving everyone. Tensions are high concerning race relations, gender discrimination, and sexual orientation. Many in the general public are calling for humanity to embrace humanity. Many in the general public are asking why we can t just love one another ? Stephen T. Asma tackles this idea of love in his article published in the New York Times. Asma discusses two different ideas about universal love before offering his own take on the subject. Just as Asma states, universal love is a myth and closer personal relationships should be favored. The first argument given toward universal love is that humanity should care for and love for those close to them, but that humans also have the ability to care for and love everyone around them. The author mentions two different and important social theorists that believe in this theory. The first is Peter Singer. Singer explains his idea in his book The Expanding Circle . He believes that it is a person s ethical duty to help those in their closest circle, of family and friends. But he also believes that that circle grows and expands to encompass other individuals as well, because our communities and societies are just one small part of many with the same needs and wants as us. Singer invokes mathematics to explain the circle should indeed grow to include others. That is until we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Theme Of Feminism In Anthem, By Ayn Rand Anthem is Against Feminism In the novel Anthem, by Ayn Rand, the theme of female inferiority is shown throughout the novel. Rand has been known to portray women as obedient and submissive to men in most of her novels. In Anthem Rand shows how women are inferior to men by; showing that a woman s highest priority is to follow a man, that men can eliminate and redetermine a woman s identity, and that women are only there to fit the needs of a man. In the novel, Liberty begs to never be left behind while they are in the Uncharted Forest because she cannot live without him. Rand s view on the responsibility of women in a society is that women are a minority in the government. Rand shows the lack of importance of females in government because, there were five members of the Council, three of the male gender and two of the female (25 26). She shows that the opinions of women do not have as much value as the opinion of a male. The inequality in government represents the imbalance in opportunities and rights for women and the majority vote favoring the men takes away the voice of the women in government. After Liberty and Equality run away to the Uncharted Forest, Liberty shows her allegiance to Equality when she tells him: we have followed you... and we shall follow you wherever you go. ... Do as you please with us but do not send us away from you (82 83). Liberty promises her obedience that she will die with him if she needs to. Rand creates the picture of a woman to sit at the feet of men and support their every need. Equality renames Liberty two times; this is Rand s way of demonstrating man s dominance over women. Someone s name is their identity, so him changing her name to what he sees best is changing her into what he wants her to be. The first time he names her the Golden One (41), and then again when they are in the forest, Gaea... the mother of a new kind of gods (99). Equality shows that he has complete control over her and whatever he wants her name to be is what she goes along with. Atp Synthesis Essay ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate, it is a useable form of energy for cells, the energy is trapped in a chemical bond that is released and it is used to dive other reactions that need energy. Photosynthetic organisms use the sunlight to get energy in order to synthesize their own fuel. Chemical energy is then made by converting the sunlight in order to compel the synthesise of the carbohydrates from the carbon dioxide and water. Oxygen is then released when the carbohydrate is synthesized. Photosynthesis is on two parts, first there is the light reactions in where the light is converted into chemical energy which is the ATP, and then this is stacked in the chloroplasts membranes in where the ATP and the electron carrier are used in the second part. If there were cuts throughout the conversation, the scene would have been made much more interesting and would have drew in the audience more. Throughout the movie some of the cuts during scenes were actually pauses. Many transitions were just a few seconds of black screen leaving the audience sitting there with nothing to look at. On the flip side there were some good transitions done by using fading. Chemical Reactions That React The Most Efficiently For... h Chemicals Will React the Most Efficiently for Heat and Eat Packs Aim: To identify which reactions will be the most efficient, in order to heat pre cooked meals. Theory: It is stated that all chemical reactions involve energy changes. Where a substance is stored with chemical energy and has the potential to be converted to heat (insert cited thing). Exothermic and Endothermic reactions are included in the changes in heat of energy. As Exothermic reactions release heat, and transfer the temperature to its surroundings. This is because the energy absorbed to split the bonds of the reactants release less heat energy than the product made by the bonds. An endothermic reaction however absorbs heat from its surrounding as the reactant doesn t supply enough energy therefore it absorbs energy from its environment. In addition, endothermic reactions release more heat energy in order to break the bonds made by the products. The bonds in the exothermic and endothermic occur during the experiment, as the breaking and making of the chemical bonds are involved. Exothermic is energy that is released when any chemical bond is formed and Endothermic is energy which must be added when a chemical bond is broken. It is recognized that with exothermic reactions, the products will contain a lower energy with the reactants. Endothermic reactions however have products which contain a higher energy than the reactants. This is because exothermic reactions release heat, and in the progress ... Social Motivation Of Social Ministry Introduction Many churches have moved beyond the atonement only gospel to become socially involved in their community in providing ministries such as, relief services, personal development services and community development services. This strategy, of social involvement by the church has been welcomed by many and has increased positive perception of the church and by extension amplified the impact of the church. But, what is the motivation behind these social involvements of the church. Is it something that they do in order to be more effective and relevant in sharing the gospel? Or is it something they do because it is genetically linked to their faith? In this paper, the writer will argue that in principle, social ministry should not be done as a means to make the church relevant. That is, the motivation behind church based social interventions should not be solely based on being relevant in order to be more effective in carrying out its mission, which is to make disciples. The writer proposes that social ministry ought to be a natural outworking of the church. As such, a church cannot be considered authentic if it is not involved in social ministry. Self benefit Motivation If the church is motivated to be socially involved because of the need to make the ministry of church relevant, in order to be more effective in carrying out its mission, then the focus is not on the need of the person or community but, rather it is on the church achieving its missional goal. • 38. The Debate Of Wisdom Literature Introduction Wisdom literature has long been part of the Jewish tradition with a large section of the Old Testament devoting itself to it. Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Sirach, the Wisdom of Solomon, and the Wisdom Psalms make up this literature. Job, dates from the tenth century B,C and has a philosophical and theological reflection on why the righteous suffer. The suggestion is that this is an orderly made cosmos and ultimately all injustices will be turned to good. Proverbs, written in its final form in the third century B.C. is a collection of aphorisms and poems within the relationship between wisdom, righteousness and religious devotion. In tone and form wisdom literature differs from divine revelation and is grounded in observation of and human reflection upon experience. Furthermore, unlike the laws of the Pentateuch, which were proposed in coming from God, and unlike the prophets, who claim to speak the word of the Lord , on God s behalf, wisdom does not purport to be truth (Borg: 2001:148). The conventional world view of some wisdom writings is that righteousness leads to an ordered universe. Wisdom literature comes in two major categories: Proverbial wisdom consisting of short, succinct sayings which provide basic rules for personal happiness and welfare. The book of Proverbs is a classic example of this within Holy Scripture. Speculative wisdom consists of monologues (e.g. Ecclesiastes) or dialogues (e.g. Job). Does it make a difference in moral psychology whether one adopts Aristotle s ordinary or Immanuel Kant s revisionist definition of virtue as a moral habit? Suppose it is objected, at the outset, that these definitions cannot be critically compared because their moral theories are, respectively, aposteriori and apriori, and so incommensurable. Two points of commensurability and grounds for comparative evaluation are two basic problems that any theory in moral psychology must address. They are moral ignorance (I don t know what I ought to do) and weakness (I don t do what I know I ought to do).(1) In the Nicomachean Ethics (hereafter Ethics), Aristotle ... Further, inner freedom is a rational self control which enables one to subdue one s emotions and to govern one s passions (67). Essential here is his claim that a virtue is not a free skill unless it is a free act of a moral will which in adopting a rule also declares it to be a universal law (66 67). Kant s concept of willing (i) freely and (ii) universally leads to his revisionist definition of virtue as moral habit. The key to (i) is to be found in his insistence on the cognitive certainty of the following metaphysical thesis. Even if the phenomenal self is completely determined causally, the moral self is free because it is noumenal (see the Critique of Practical Reason 28 34, 43 52, 55 59, 100 106; hereafter Practical Reason). He claims that the noumenal self is a cause imminent in experience because it is an efficient cause through Ideas (50). In short, Kant rejects the formation of moral habits through repetition in order to protect radically the freedom of the moral agent from phenomenal and scientific determinism. The key to (ii) is Kant s rejection of Aristotle s following advice. Since the cognitive results of a kind of reasoning is determined by its subject matter, it is foolish to require of moral reasoning the certainty and precision one can expect ... Shazer was interested in how to influence change (Nichols, 2008, p. 346). Solution focused therapy deals in solutions as opposed to dwelling on problems. Increasingly stringent budgeting constraints emphasize the need to develop shorter and more focused therapy sessions without sacrificing successful outcomes (Nichols, 2008).
