A Rose Is Still A Rhodes (Rose)
A Rhodes (rose) is still a Rhodes (rose) Introduction Like the rose that grew from concrete, life is
hard. Never give up! You ll make it to the sunshine of success. Never give up! J. Lewis A s you look at
the rose that grew from concrete, what do you see? Do you see the damaged petals? Or are you in awe
to see the rose that actually grew from concrete? The truth is we never know what molded an
individual into the person that is presented to the outside world. Just like the rose that grew from
concrete, we view people from their outer being rather than from their soul. My tenacious behavior is
much like that rose. That rose that grew from concrete willed itself to survive and bloom despite the
laws of nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This course has broadened my world view and piqued my interest of subfields in philosophy. For an
example in A Lesson Before Dying, and Midwives, different philosophical phenomena s emerged
from the pages of each novel philosophy of the mind, religion, and science. Philosophy of the mind:
Both novels were reflective of human emotions, such as desire, passion and feelings. Philosophy of
religion: Lesson Before Dying, religious symbolism was used throughout the novel. Grant and Pastor
Ambrose were continually battling over religious beliefs and spirituality. Philosophy of science:
Midwives, the trial of Sybil traditionalists vs. modernists. This course has helped me think outside the
box and dissect a work of art, and identify underlying questions that provides me a better
understanding of what the writer is trying to portray to their audience. In conclusion the rose in
concrete metaphor represents the hardship of life, but with perseverance anything is possible. Hello,

Compare And Contrast The Waterfall And Agile Method Of...
1. Introduction For this paper, I will be comparing the Waterfall and Agile methods of software
development. The primary articles used for citations will be from Agile for millennials: a comparative
study and The Waterfall That Won t Go Away with supplementing citations from Hybrid Software and
System Development in Practice: Waterfall, Scrum, and Beyond. 2. Definition The Waterfall and Agile
methods are amongst some of the most popular methods of software development. The Waterfall
method is essentially a sequential approach for software development. At each stage of a project, the
all tasks and goals need to be completed before moving to the next stage with the goal of reducing
error. The first signs of the Waterfall method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both articles also suggest that education is avkey issue on the eventual adoption of the Agile and
hybrid methodologies. Chatterjee suggests that hybrid approaches need to be slowly introduced in the
workplace with the software development culture embracing the Agile method. Missiroli, Russo and
Ciancarini suggest education as the root approach to make this change. However, it is evident that
both methods are necessary. In fact, in the article Hybrid Software and System Development in
Practice: Waterfall, Scrum and Beyond , the hybrid Water Scrum Fall method is tested. The study
found that it is in fact a widely used practice, regardless of company size, industry and other external
practices. Although it is still being tested with a larger population, early conclusions suggest that the
hybrid method is the best approach (Kuhrmann, et al., 2017, pp. 30, 38 39). Therefore, each
organization should focus on education with both methods and adopt some level of a hybrid method.
The next question is if there is a formal development strategy that could be widely adopted or if both
methodologies should be assessed on a case by case basis and at different degree of granularity. 5.

Physical Effects Of Child Abuse And Neglect
Effects of Child Abuse
Child abuse affects a person beyond their youth mentally, socially, and physically. Childhood
experiences can affect and determine adult personalities. This abuse, though it can be repressed, may
never be completely devoid from a victim s memory. These effects can be long lasting and damaging
to a victim s overall health.
Child abuse has long lasting effects on a person s mentality and emotional state. During early infancy
and childhood years, a child s brain develops at an incredible pace that it will never again experience.
Studies about early childhood development indicate that the brain develops in response to experiences
with caregivers, family and the community, and that its development is directly linked to the quality
and quantity of those experiences ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). If young ... Show more

Physically, effects of abuse may or may not be visibly present. Perpetrators, at times, will be careful to
leave little to no evidence of abuse. However, being able to recognize the physical effects of abuse can
be a crucial part of identifying abusive situations. Children, as their bodies are still developing, are
more susceptible to injury than adults are. Common physical effects that have been observed in
children who have been physically or sexually abused include: welting, bruises, abrasions, difficulty
walking or sitting, poor hygiene, and torn, bloody, or inappropriate clothing ( Effects of Child Abuse
and Neglect ). Sometimes the physical effects of abuse are not from the source of neglect. Often
children will develop a harmful tick as a way of coping or suppressing the traumatic memories.
Common ticks include eating disorders, drug use, self harm, and risky sexual decision making (

introduction of distributed generation (DG), the importance of distribution loss allocation (LA) has
incremented. This paper presents developing method for distribution power LA in radial systems. The
proposed method, which based on the results of power flow and considers active and reactive power
flows of lines for Loss Allocation (LA) is composed of three steps. In the first step, starting from the
source nodes, the puissance loss allocated to all nodes is calculated and then the power loss allocated
to the loads connected to each node is obtain. In the next step, the total power loss is allocated to the

Staying Healthy In Middle Adulthood
Middle adulthood is a time of both gains and losses. The span of middle adulthood is from forty to
sixty years of age, it can be defined as chronologically, contextually, or biologically. Most middle age
people are in good physical, cognitive, and emotional condition. Staying healthy is very important or
middle age adults. Eating healthy is also a very important factor. I think vitamins are good for the
body; they are great supplements that make up for all the protein the body is not receiving. As the
body age blood pressure starts to rise and chances are increased for having a stroke or a heart attack.
Eating fruits and vegetables helps decrease these chances. Eating broccoli, baked potatoes, bananas,
and other foods with skin is a great

Writing An Assignment Analysis
When I write an assignment, from a simple analysis to a research paper, I always start with writing an
outline. The outline helps me with the flow of my writing and reminds me where my work will take
me. The outline keeps me organized in my thoughts and aids in the comprehension of my writing; it
will start out very broad and eventually becomes very specific so the essay is easier to write. I have
gotten into the habit of writing outlines when I would write any assignment during my sophomore
year of high school. My teacher would require us to write outlines for major writing assignments
which developed my habit to write an outline for any assignment. After the outline, I begin writing the
assignment and edit while I write. I do this by briefly

Comparing Two Pictures To Compare And Contrast Mcdonald...
Comparison contrast essay
17M1088 Kakeru Fuyuki
I d like to talk to you about differences and similarities of two pictures. I ll show you the picture, one
is a Donald McDonald, the other is Kernel Sanders.
There are two photographs, one is the mascot character and the other is the founder of the fast food
shop which are famous in the United States and of course Japan. It is so famous that no one in the
world knows these two people.
First, I d like to compare these two pictures. The obvious difference about two people is that Donald is
a fictional character, and that the Kernel is a real person. Talking about Donald, 96% of the children in
the United States know him and United States one of the famous fast food propaganda characters. ...

Both of these two pictures are considered red color scheme. Since both are restaurants, I wondered if
the red would have an impact on our willingness to purchase and the consciousness of eating and
drinking. There are a lot of effects in red, and here, I d like to talk two effects. The color of red
promotes the adrenaline secretion in the brain, and has the effect of increasing man s hunger feeling.
And, there is work to help digestive activity, too. Therefore, when the red sign and the red object come
into your eyes, you feel hungry, and go into the store. And, the red color has the effect of showing the
hot dishes so that the temperature is high. The cooking of the warm atmosphere makes the image
which is fresh. In addition, it s common for Donald and the kernel to be smiling. Smiles increase
customer sentiment and lead to customer satisfaction. By the way Donald is a mascot character,
McDonald s is selling a smile at 0 yen. It was very refreshing to see an image of a rival fast food
restaurant from a contrasting viewpoint and a similar perspective. It was a good experience to be able
to know that the color scheme which made a lot of red was both because there was a similar intention
and that both companies are fighting a similar commercial

Theme Of Richard Bone
The subject matter of death isn t the theme of this poem. The poem prevails truth being disguised and
manipulated over documented history. This not only opens the mind into questioning whether
historical events truly happened the way historians say it did, or whether documentation can prove a
justification of truth, but it forces the second idea to raise questions whether any of the history being
told is true at all. The poem Richard Bone carries out this idea strongly. The reason this poem plays an
interest in my mind is that it synthesizes to current events happening every day in the real world in a
variety of ways. The poem places the tactic of truth versus false and how reality plays with this
fundamental game with scenarios of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, because that person had already passed, he began to raise questions: whether those people
were really who they said they were. Richard Bone is prone to the idea that evil dominates the
goodness in the world, so why don t some of the tombstones describe the characteristics that were
strongly disliked of that certain individual? Only being described as a good person only prevails that
the truth is being hidden. After all, because the tombstone represents what the person was, people
paying for the chisels wanted to remember the goodness in the heart of that individual, not that that
person at some point in their lives betrayed them. Tombstones are a certain scar. Richard Bone, tells
up to be aware.
In the poem Richard Bone there a very few parts of the poem where it appeals to my senses. However,
there are a few, specifically the line that reads,
...made myself party to the false chronicles
Of the stones,
Without absolute hesitation, Richard Bone delights himself with the idea that he will always profit
from his job economically. He forces himself to think that the truth does not matter as long as he has
lived and he is successful. This second line proceeds to the figurative language device of a hyperbole,
Without knowing the truth,
Or because he is influenced to hide it.
Here is displaying that because he is making money from his job of chiseling false labels onto
tombstones, the lies do not matter to him. He convinces

Analysis Of Peaceful Warrior
Dan v.s His Ego Dan s pride and ego gets to the best of him. It makes Dan do things that are out of his
comfort zone. What if Dan had the chance to change that, would he take that opportunity to become
better? In the movie, Peaceful Warrior Dan Millman had the opportunity to change himself for the
better. Dan had the chance to rethink his ways, his actions and do the right things. Throughout the
movie it was Dan v.s his alter ego, but that changed when he meets a man named Socrates. In the
beginning of the movie Dan lets his ego get to the best of him while he was practicing his flips and
tricks on the rings. Dan was trying to practice landing a triple flip on the rings for his big finisher of
his routine. While Dan was on the rings everything was rushing through his head, he was not focused,
he was not determined to land the flip. Dan thought he could make the flip not matter what, but he did
not know that his ego started to come out and take over. For Dan s ego coming out he was not able to
land the triple flip that he wanted to land. When Dan did not make the flip, and fell on his face on the
mate underneath him the coach, Coach Garrick said something like You have a big ego, stop with the
ego, so you can become better and make the landing. What the coach is trying to tell Dan is that is ego
is way too big, he needs to let it go, and his ego is getting in the way of him landing the triple flip and
become better at what he loves to do. Dan starts to think about what Coach Garrick tells him and then
Dan meets an old man named Socrates that helps him start to let go of his ego and his old ways. Later,
in the movie Dan starts to clear his mind and listens to what Socrates has to say, but his ego still
comes and goes. Dan starts to what Socrates tells him to do without getting mad or upset, but his ego
still floats around with him because he still did not take out the trash that s in his head, but during
practice one day he did take out the trash. Dan finally learned how to clear his mind, during tryouts
one day at the California University gym, he got up on the pommel horse and did not think about
anything but just did. Later that night Dan went back to the service station where

Essay on The Hanta Virus
The Hanta Virus
The hanta virus is not a new foe to humanity. This mysterious and sometimes fatal disease has plagued
humanity for over 1000 years. This virus, most likely originating in China over 1000 years ago, is
transmitted by human contact with mice. Only relatively recently has the hanta virus captured the
attention of the United States. Although the hanta virus has been known for such a long time, there is
little known about the virus. In the United States most cases are found in the southwestern part of the
country, although cases have been reported from all four corners of the country. Recently, there have
been successful tests done on prospective vaccines for the hanta virus. Despite this, strains ... Show

There can be no human to human transmission of this virus, therefore it is not spread by people but
only by deer mice (www.slac.stanford.edu). Most infections of the hanta virus resulted from contact
with mice or their droppings in homes while cleaning (Ince).
The first symptoms of the hanta virus are often characterized as flu like. This includes a fever,
coughing and muscle fatigue (www.pharminfo.com). Other beginning symptoms may also include
chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain (www.bepestfree.com). Untreated or severe cases
can lead to fluid in the lungs, causing respiratory failure and ultimately, death (www.nmus.edu). Not
typically reported, the hanta virus can also cause kidney failure, again with the possibility of leading
to death (www.latinolink.com). As of March 17, 1997, there were 158 confirmed cases of the hanta
virus in the United States (www.bepestfree.com). As of July 1996 there were 133 cases of the hanta
virus confirmed in the United States, and approximately half of these cases lead to death
(www.nmsu.edu).
There are several steps that can be taken to reduce the risk contracting the hanta virus. One highly
recommended measure is to spray mouse feces, dead mice or areas inhabited by mice with a water and
bleach solution (5:1). After this, all work done around the area, such as cleaning, should be done while
wearing rubber gloves and a dust mask. All contamination

The Effects Of Child Labor Laws On Children And The Value...
Every single individual experiences childhood as a part of life s journey, yet no two individuals share
the same experiences, therefore when asking people to define childhood and what is considered
appropriate approaches to deal with children, perspectives and opinions vary significantly.
Independently of people s different perceptions of childhood, modern society has come to a consensus
that children are different from adults and must be spared from the burdens of the labor force.
However, child labor impacts the way society views children and the value it places upon them.
What is childhood and how is it perceived throughout history? The pioneer of the history of childhood
Philippe AriĂšs, defines it as a social construct that is culturally determined and establishes the
expectations set for children, which are determined by social leaders and experts (Hawes and Hiner
381). Since social values change overtime, the expectations that society places upon children also
changes. In order to understand the importance of child labor laws, and the factors that contributed to
the perception that children are not supposed to work, it is important to understand the role of child
labor and how the concept of childhood changed throughout history.
The perception of the importance of focusing on children and the part that they play in society, was
not a substantial matter of focus and study in previous eras. Consequently, history of childhood is
fairly new, and there are limited sources

Summary Of Ethos Pathos Logos By Maggie Jackson
What are some ways you could persuade your reader to your opinion? One way is by using logos,
pathos, and ethos. What are logos, pathos, and ethos? Those three terms are modes of persuasion used
to convince your audience. In the essay Distracted: The Erosion of Attention and The Coming Dark
Age by Maggie Jackson. Maggie used those three concepts to help her argument because she hooks
the reader by convincing the audience, making the audience feel what she felt and lastly using logic or
reason.
Authors typically use pathos to make their reader feel what the author wants them to feel. For
example, Maggie says It s crucial that we better understand how our new high tech tools, from video
games to PowerPoint, may be affecting us (Jackson273). Maggie wants the readers to realize that

Florence Nightingale, Joseph Lister, And Edward Jenner
How did medical professionals have the knowledge and professionalism necessary to do their jobs?
Three individuals improved how medicine is practiced and the precautions to take. Hippocrates once
said, It s far more important to know the person the disease has than what disease the person has. The
three pioneers of the medical field Florence Nightingale, Joseph Lister, and Edward Jenner changed
the way medicine is practiced today. Firstly, Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy on the
12th of May in 1820. She had a very wealthy family. When Florence was sixteen years old on
February 7, 1837, she heard the voice of God calling her to carry out some special work. As she had
the want to help people, she was lead to believe that God wanted her to be a nurse. Being a nurse was
unusual for the upper class because nurses were known to come from poor families. The want of
becoming a nurse never went away so she went to Kaiserwerth to nurse training (James). In addition,
Florence actually lead a team of 38 nurses to staff an overseas hospital of the British army during the
Crimean War. It was reported that there were unsanitary conditions that got the public concerned, so
the secretary requested for a team of nurses to provide help. When Florence and her team arrived,
conditions were extremely worse than reported. The wards were covered in sewage and patients were
scattered everywhere. The rags that the patients were covered in blood and excretion soiled in them.

In order to castigate the overwhelming and unfair standards of Puritan beliefs that strip
nonconformists of dignity, self identity, and acceptance in society, Nathaniel Hawthorne illuminates
the demoralizing, prejudiced, and unforgiving views and punishments of religious Massachusetts

Because Hawthorne intends to criticize the hypocrisy and oppression within the conformist
community, his downcast and disconsolate illustrations expose the strict and relentless mandates of
Puritan ideology. But, in that early severity of the Puritan character, [...] it might be that a sluggish
bond servant, or an undutiful child, whom his parents had given over to the civil authority, was to be
corrected at the whipping post [...] or an idle and vagrant Indian, whom the white man s fire water had
made riotous about the streets, was to be driven with stripes into the shadow of the forest. (Hawthorne
47). By portraying an array of very different types of people such as the servant, child, and Indian, all
of whom are subjected to Puritan law, Hawthorne laments the fact that anyone if convicted by the
orthodox Puritans can be punished. The illustration of a child being whipped in public because his
own parents turned him in is sickening; it fully envelopes Hawthorne s view of unfair and repulsive
treatment of nonconformists and sinners. Similarly, the visual description of an Indian being driven
with stripes , or in other words, being chased with a whip, once again accentuates the

Title: Types of Horse Racing
Description: Knowing the types of horse racing is instrumental for first time bettors who want to grasp
the ins and outs of the popular wagering activity.
Keyword: South African football
First time bettors would think that all horse races are the same. However, horse racing is a varied sport
once you see the bigger picture. It goes back hundreds of years and it has developed significantly
throughout its course in time. These days, racing takes place in a multitude of formats with a
collection of newly established rules and regulations. You don t need to follow each and every rule to
get involved, but getting a decent grasp should give you a head start.
Flat racing and jump racing are two of the most common horse racing events, and it s these that
continue to draw the attention of bettors. You should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turf is the conventional surface which most South African football fields employ but dirt tracks are
also sought after locations. Synthetic surfaces are used at a number of race courses as well,
particularly in the UK, which is also known as all weather tracks.
Jump Racing
Jump racing is another form that mostly caters to Thoroughbred horses, and is considerably more
hazardous that flat racing due to the company of obstacles that horses has to leap over. These obstacles
mostly include hurdles, fences, or ditches. The increased risks have led to it being banned in some
countries like Australia. It is still a popular form of race in Europe and the US, where it is recognized
as steeplechasing.
In the UK and Ireland, it s known as National Hunt racing and there are two codes hurdles and
steeplechases. In hurdles, the obstacles are required to be over three and a half foot high and a race
must be held over a two mile course. Meanwhile, in steeplechases, a selection of obstacles can be
included, such as fences, open ditches, or water

Wright Brothers Airplane Failure
Hello, everyone today I will argue why I think why the Wright brothers were the first to fly, the first
and most accurate reason they left diaries, and other things to assure they were the first to fly. The
second detail other inventors who had claimed to have flew first have not left any clue of it. And the
last supporting detail of this idea is that other attempts to fly failed. Now let s talk about this in detail.
The diaries the Wright brothers left included all the models they did, their ideas, and some pictures
that prove they flew, they investigated the birds movements and they put them in the diaries and how
they carried out them to their airplanes. Now the others inventors that claimed to have flew first but

Moby Dick Research Paper
It is not everyday that a man is able to write himself into history, only the greatest and most daring
writers are able to break the threshold of humanity and ascend into the history books. Growing up
with two of the most influential grandfathers who were both Revolutionary heroes, Herman Melville
grew into a great writer. Bankruptcy and the loss of his father at age 12 had such a big impact on
Herman that he was taken out of school and forced to work. He self taught himself and briefly went
back to school to study Engineering (Reiff 9 11). During his early 20s, Melville was unable to get a
job in engineering. He faced economic hardships which influenced him to go on voyages as an escape
from his problems. Sailing consisted of relaxing and romanticizing with beautiful islanders despite the
horrors of military punishments he experienced (Reiff 13). From 1844 to 1857, Melville spent his
years as a full time writer to gain prestige and money while supporting his family (American
Experience). Melville became known for one of his novels, Moby Dick, which was dedicated to
Nathaniel Hawthorne. Moby Dick is known as one of the Greatest American Novels because the story
had an exciting plot, philosophical statements, many comparisons, and symbols making the novel very
complex. The complexity of the literary writing symbolized romance, particularly the romance of the
sea. The novel was based on the life of a sailor who experienced a tragic voyage and a white whale
named Moby Dick.

Pros And Cons Of Corporal Punishment In Schools

student accidentally drops the ruler, hoping the teacher will not notice, fearing he will be beaten.
However, the teacher sees it and paddles the student five times. The student now has severe bruising
on his bottom just for dropping a ruler. This is not how it should be. Thirty nine states have banned
corporal punishment because it is dangerous in schools and not a suitable punishment for
students(Morin). Corporal Punishment should not be allowed in schools because it promotes violence,
it creates an unsafe environment, and it has a lasting impact on kids. Corporal punishment should not
be allowed in schools because it promotes violence. Many students have been beaten by their teachers
for doing something negative in school, and have gotten the message that violence is a good thing.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has stated some examples of this in the article Should Corporal
Punishment Be Used in K 12 Schools .They explained that Children who experience corporal
punishment are more likely to hit or use violence against people to get their way. (Procon.com) This

Wireless Sensor Networks And Technology Constraints
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present universally and growing rapidly due to its unique features,
such as their less weight, cheap, and wireless nature. However, due to its highly constrained
computational and energy resources this network is exposed to numerous attacks that affect its
security. So, it is important to address these security issues from the beginning of the system design.
but, due to inherent resource and computing constraints, security in sensor networks poses diverse
challenges than traditional network security so, designing security protocols for all layers in this kind
of a network becomes an compelling need. In this paper, we studied several existing WSN security
protocols and data link layer security algorithms, which ensures a safe communication link between
neighboring nodes by supervising the medium access and handling the errors. The purpose of this
paper is Not Only Studying and explaining the strength and limitations of the existing energy efficient
security protocols of the data link layer but also and determine the crucial security requirements which
should be taken into consideration for design of future of data link security protocols.

Racism In The Brothers, By Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott s The Brothers, highlights the wickedness of slavery and the issue of racial
superiority through the depiction of Bob s story, which is told primarily through the narration of Miss
Dane. Through Miss Dane s interaction with Bob, one can deduce that she is rather complacent in the
quest against slavery and does little to break down the racial divide. In addition, Miss Dane claims
authority over Bob s identity right away, which prohibits Bob from attaining a sense of liberty and
merely continues the vicious cycle of oppression. Bob also exhibits signs of self hatred due to his
mixed race, finding it difficult to identify with neither blacks nor whites. The nation s current racial
conflict also makes it difficult for Miss Dane to escape prejudice herself, which Alcott conveys
through Miss Dane s attitude toward Bob s behavior. Although Robert escapes slavery, it becomes
rather difficult for him to escape prejudice. Alcott condemns Miss Dane s actions in The Brothers,
because of the way she claims ownership over Bob, which consequently prohibits Robert from
claiming an identity of his own. Upon meeting Bob for the first time, Miss Dane immediately claims
authority over him by choosing a name that she deems acceptable. The narrator asserts, This Bob
would never do; I should have found it as easy to call the chaplain Gus as my tragical looking
contraband by a title so strongly associated with the tail of a kite[...] Well, I ll call you Robert, then,

President James Monroe which was overturned by the Truman Doctrine. The Truman Doctrine was
instrumental in the creation of the Marshall Plan, which was a plan designed to contain communism
by lending economic aid to struggling European countries to help get them on their feet again. This
aid would help these countries fight communism. The Marshall Plan was ratified in 1948. In Truman s
speech he convinced congress that it was important to confront the soviets immediately, because if
they do not then more and more countries would fall to Communism like Dominoes. This later
became known as the Domino Theory which was introduced to Truman by his Under Secretary Dean
Acheson. The Domino Theory was later to inspire the American interventions in Korea and Vietnam.
He stated that if more countries succumb to communism it would make it easier for communism to
spread, and therefore more difficult to stop. The Truman Doctrine ended up leading to NATO, and
increased anti Communist hysteria. The speech also convinced the Soviet Union that the U.S. was a
threat to Soviet Communism which caused the Cold War to heat up even

has faced many challenges in her life, ranging from her abusive witch like owner Madame Lockton, to
choosing whether to side with Great Britain or America. The old man Isabel calls grandfather, tells
her, Everything that stands between you and freedom is the River Jordan. When talking about about
the River Jordan, her grandfather means that Isabel must overcome her problems (the River Jordan) to
find freedom and escape from the brutality of being a slave. There are many things that get in the way
of Isabel on her quest to freedom, such as Madame Lockton, choosing sides, finding Ruth, and a

Her problems could be interpreted as chains trapping and drowning her in her River Jordan. He
[Captain Campbell] couldn t take me. He would not. I was chained between two nations... I was a
ghost tied to the ground not a living soul. (182) This quote shows Isabel is stuck, not knowing what
side to favor. They used a simile comparing Isabel and the two nations to a ghost trapped in the
ground, with Isabel depicted as the ghost. It explained that Isabel is a like ghost trapped in the ground,
not with the British nor the Americans. The glowing iron streaked in front of my face like a comet...
The man pushed the hot metal against my cheek. It hissed and bubbled. Smoke curled under my nose.
They cooked me. (148) This passage clarifies when Isabel gets branded. This part of the story almost
broke Isabel s spirit to fight forward and for freedom. Not like her usual self, she followed orders
received from Madame and rarely thought about Ruth and her parents. I took a step up. Answer me,
you miserable cow. Did you sell my sister? ... She is only 5 years old. I rose another step. She is a
baby and you sold her away from me. (135) During this section of the story, this would be the first
time Isabel ever truly got mad at Madame, even enough to yell at her with a rude name. This is one of
the larger complications that add more water to Isabel s River Jordan. Ruth was Isabel s only family
left, and she sincerely did care for Ruth, but when Ruth got sold it put Isabel into despair. It was also
the cause of Isabel being branded. But Ruth did. She giggled, a sound like a small silver bell. A bell
tolling disaster. Madam Lockton... pointed her finger at us. Which one of you made that noise? Her
face flushed with rage her eyes darting back and forth between us. I did, ma am, I quickly lied...

How Have Tattoos Changed Over Time
Tattoos have been around since 450 BC, it was used to mark the criminals and those fallen from social

concepts has changed many times. You could classify the different changes in six eras in the tattoo

Answering these basic questions may summarize much of the information regarding Quasar.
What is the definition of a quasar? When radio telescopes were first turned on the heavens, point
sources of radio waves were discovered (along with spread out regions of emission along our Milky
Way). Astronomers using ordinary visible light telescopes turned toward these radio points and looked
to see what was there. In some cases a supernova remnant was found, in others, a large star birth
region, in others a distant galaxy. But in some places where point sources of radio waves were found,
no visible source other than a stellar looking object was found (it looked like a point of a star).
These objects were called the quasi stellar radio sources or quasars for short. Later, it was found these
sources could not be stars in our galaxy, but must be very far away as far as any of the distant galaxies
seen. We now think these objects are the very bright centers of some distant galaxies, where some sort
of energetic action is occurring, most probably due to the presence of a supermassive black hole at the
center of that galaxy.

Social Differences Between North And South Colonies
Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the Northern and Southern colonies were
depicting a significant division. The claim that the colonies are more similar than different is not true.
In fact, the divided colonies had developed their own separate and distinct economic, social, and
political differences. The Northern and Southern colonies established their own economies. For
instance, the economy of the North was based on manufacturing and trade. The geography in northern
regions is mostly mountains with a cold climate, which prohibits long growing seasons for agricultural
production. Its dominating labor force were farms that were run by family members. And since the

The north was far more populated than the south. It was that the Northern colonies developed a
homogeneous society based upon the idea of a perfect religious community. Hence, their society was

developed a social stratifcated society based on English tradition and wealth. It was also a biracial
society with fewer women. In addition, the south had a lower life expectancy than the north.
Therefore, the societal differences between the regions are visible. The political difference between
the two colonies was how they are ruled. Northern would live under a town government ruled by
religious leaders in town meetings. The Northern views are pro federalist and pro big government.

Essay about Review on Strategy as Revolution
Introduction
After reading what precisely the article expounds and analyses, revolution stays as the core of strategy.
The article Strategy as Revolution clarifies the role revolution plays in the markets and declared ten
principles to help a company discover revolutionary strategies and put into practice. All the third kinds
of companies mentioned in the article have opportunities to reach what they want, however, the
different roles determine the market hierarchy. In a growing number of industries, innovation is
increasingly disrupting existing patterns of competition(Andersen Strandskov, 2008), just like what
Gary Hamel (2000) said, the simple phrase, Familiarity is the enemy (Chris Lauer , 2008).

Secondly, the arguments which follow steps by steps and relate to each other in this article certify that
revolution have large impact on companies. List of ten principles highlights the crucial points orderly.
This structure with specific examples make it easy to analyse and adopt the principles.
Nevertheless, the article pays less attention to the external factors to revolution. The principles and
arguments emphasize the internal environment and actions for people to do, regardless of what
externals are capable to influence.
Meanwhile the core idea of Strategy as Revolution depends on many factors and can not be applied
for many companies. For a companies, revolution is on the list of consideration but not on the list of
schedule. Fot this article, too much stress on could lead to misunderstanding of the impact of
revolution.
Out of a thousand unconventional ideas, probably only a hundred are worth experimenting with. And
out of those one hundred, only 10 have the power to transform a business(Hryniuk, 2001). Literally,
revolutions seldom succeed(D Aveni, 2002) . The whole article equips us with the thought that
revolution is essential and vital for companies. Revolution could be profitable. However, chasing
revolution leads incumbents to another convention which exactly is to seek revolution itself.
Sometimes and usually, the first brave man to break with conventions challenges

Corporate Governance Of The Uk And The Us
Introduction (The Telegraph, 2015) This quotation was made by Sir Adrian Cadbury, who is
recognized for his report on corporate governance in the year 1992 (Adeney, 2015). In the past
decades several events, such as company failures and frauds had shown the importance of corporate
governance in countries like the UK and the US. Different scandals including Maxwell, Polly Peck
and Enron led to different approaches in corporate governance within these countries (Monks; Minow,
2004 p. 1). In contrary for country X, this topic wasn t that significant. This was a result of the lower
economy compared with UK and US. As from now, with the growing economy and the wish to access
to capital markets, it s important to establish some approaches of Corporate Governance. This
information document gives an overview and analysis of the approaches from Corporate Governance
currently used in the UK and the US as well as a discussion of events and situations that influenced

4. Visual Basic Math
The computer system being a machine can perform mathematical calculations in the best possible
way. These are equipped with all kinds of performance ability ranging from simple addition
subtraction to square root and from the trigonometry to word problems. However, there is always a
proper form required when it comes to visual basic.
The format you may be required to follow when performing calculations you must follow the below
given layout in visual basic, however, divisions and multiplication are performed first and when both
are present calculation starts from left side.
Console.WriteLine((2 + 6) * 5) Console.ReadLine()
Console.WriteLine(30 / 2 * 3) Console.ReadLine()
The answers to the above given equations may vary depending upon if the brackets are given or not
since the meaning and technicality of calculation changes.
When it comes to division the following code is required to be followed:

The Consequences Of Capital Punishment In Julius Ceaser
In his play, Julius Ceaser, Shakespear wrote, Cowards die many times before their deaths. The valiant
never taste of death but once. (2.2.34) Crimanals who kill or rape are the most cowardly of them all.
They deserve to suffer; they must face their cowardice actions with suffering. Capital Punishment or
the death penalty is the act of killing someone as punishment for a serious crime. There is not much
justice in the death penelty, no suffering is ever involved. Infact, death can even be considered an
honor. A person commiting a serious crime is always aware that they might be caught. They know that
the death penelty is a possibilty. Life in prison might even be worse. Death is bliss compared to being
caught. Many people commit mass murder and kill themselfs afterwards, all with the satisfaction of
inflicting pain on others because of their own suffering. After all, it would put them out of their misery
and give them peace. Where is the victims peace in capital punishment? Someone who has made
another suffer should suffer just as likely if not more, beyond an eye for an eye . Depending on
whether we seek vengence or we seek justice for those who have hurt us, there should be more
satisfaction; more justice in punishing those who commit these filthy acts.
Think of your worst fear, something that taunts you. Now, make it a reality and play it on a loop... Are
you mad?... Are you angry?... Are you... Dead? (Manson. Manson Trials)Is it the deep dark waters

The Ford Mustang Essays
A highly popular muscle and sports car, the Ford Mustang functions as a daily driver, weekend
warrior, and a show winning work of mechanical art. Whether someone just needs a basic
transportation to get from point A to point B, an eight second quarter mile beast, or a show stopping
work of power and beauty, Ford has produced a Mustang for every need. The Mustang got its name
from the World War II P 51 Mustang fighter plane (Harris). The five generations evolved each year
model until, in response to the 1971 1973 models, Ford returned the car to its original size and concept
in 1974 (Bowling). The first generation of the Mustangs appeared in 1964 and lasted through 1973.

Furthermore, this car interests me because at the price one could completely personalize his or her
dream Mustang for only $2,320. Ford would sell close to 417,000 Mustangs within the first year
(Tucker). In August 1964, Carol Shelby approached Lee Daocca, President of Fomoco at the time.
Shelby had a vision to create a high performance Mustang and Shelby wanted a car that could hold its
own both on and off the track. Once Shelby received approval to move forward on the project, he
created a fastback 2+2 Mustang (Kelly). This model Mustang only had front bucket seats and a
console but no back seat, which earned it the name fastback 2+2. This model mustang came equipped
with a four speed manual transmission for more torque, one of the fastest cars of its day. The 2+2
fastback Mustang remains my favorite model Mustang of this year because it had a sleeker,
aerodynamic design, and featured a larger engine, the 289 cu in, which produced a whopping 306
horsepower (Tucker1). The official name for this 2+2 fastback Mustang was the Shelby GT 350: Ford
named it this for street purposes (Kelly). In the fall of 1964, Ford included an entirely new Mustang
engine lineup and the addition of the GT group. The 200 cu in six cylinder engine replaced the 170 cu
in six cylinder engine, thus increasing the six cylinder s performance from 101 horsepower to 120
horsepower. The 289 cu in replaced the 260 cu

Cocaine
COCAINE
One of the most dangerous and widely abused drugs is cocaine, although they do not produce very
severe physical dependent symptoms upon withdrawal. In the early 16th century, Francisco Pizzaro
encountered the Inca; he found that royalty used the coca plant. This was the 1st contact Europeans
had with this drug. In Peru this was considered to be the gift of the Gods (Craving for Ecstasy and
Natural Highs: A Positive approach to mood Alteration Milkman, Sunderwirth) and was used in
religious ceremonies as well for medicinal purposes. It was claimed to be a brain tunic, and a cure for

(The Developing Person through the Life Span. Berger 7th Edition pg.386) In my experience, I used
cocaine at very early age; this is why I chose this topic. Once I started using, I couldn t stop and I tried
different ways like hanging out with different people, going to different places, doing different things,
and even rehab after rehab since the age of 14 did not stop my wanting to use every day. I robbed my
parents of money and sleep. I took from them until they had nothing to give. I was dishonest to
everyone around me including myself. I was selfish and self centered to the extreme. I felt like the
world owed me something and that the world revolved around me. My family and friends wanted
nothing to do with me. They disowned me, took my daughter from me, and put me out on the street. It
was at that point that I felt hopeless and depressed and was willing to do something different. I had no
idea at the time that God was going to change my life dramatically. I went to an NA meeting, and a
woman there shared her story. It gave me hope and a will to live and even though I didn t know if I
wanted to stop drinking and using forever, I did know I didn t want to die anymore. That to me was
the biggest miracle I had ever felt. This woman became my sponsor and gave me love and compassion
and best of all clear cut directions on how to live a clean and sober life. The only treatment options I

Television And Its Impact On The World War II
In 1926 John Logie Baird transmitted his first image with his new mechanical television. As the 4 x2
image of his business partner illuminated his face, Baird was completely unaware of the influence this
new medium would have on the opinions and attitudes of the people of the world. Television
represented a new opportunity to bring not only audio like radio but to place an image in every home.
Along with the work of many other inventors television was soon to become a viable medium of
entertainment and news but it did face many setbacks. At first television was a novelty, completely
overshadowed by the established medium of radio. Before World War II very few homes contained a
television and broadcasters mostly aired 15 minute segments and were limited in technology. Then on
September 1, 1939 Hitler and Germany invaded Poland and the world plunged into World War II. The
FCC issued a ban on the construction of television equipment causing the growth of television to
stagnate. At the end of the war economic prosperity and a rising middle class opened the door for a
new rise in the purchase of goods. One such good was the television. In 1947 only a few thousand
homes owned a television. By 1950 six million homes contained a television, and in 1960 around 60
million homes contained a television. During this period a new war was being waged: the Cold War.
In this battle between United States and the Soviet Union ideals propaganda was the main way to
grow support for their cause

The Causes Of Antidepressants
There has been evidence that links antidepressants to the causes of violent outbursts in individuals.
This led to my decision in doing my ORT on whether antidepressants have more of a negative effect
on the human body rather than the positive effects they are expected to have. This investigation will be
carried out by sending various surveys to psychiatrics. These are doctors who specialize in the
diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses such as depression. Another survey will be sent to
individuals who are currently or were previously on antidepressants. I decided to do this topic because
antidepressants are supposed to help people deal with depression; however this is not the case in some
instances. There was a shooting at Columbine High

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create ripples Mother
Teresa
In 2003 Mother Teresa was named a saint by the pope for her extraordinary love and kindness towards
everyone. (softschools.org, 2005).
Mother Teresa won around 126 awards in her lifetime, but one of the most known ones was the Nobel
Peace Prize December 1979. She refused the traditional Nobel honour banquet, instead requesting
that the $192,000 budget be given to help the poor of India. (legacy.com, 2016). This showed her great
love towards people.
Mother Teresa worked as a teacher at St. Mary high school Calcutta, India in 1931 and soon got
promoted to principal in 1944 (soft schools.com, 2005), during this time she would see the the people
outside the school poor, suffering and living on the streets. Her heart then felt that this is how she
wanted to help by serving the poorest of poor. Mother Teresa got permission from the pope to leave
and go to learn more about how to care for the sick and suffering, she went to Patna, India to receive a
few months of medical training from the American Medical Missionaries. (learn to give.org,

Nowadays, it is almost impossible to find a company or organization which does not use any kind of
technology or information system to help run their operations and processes. Computer technology
has become extremely integrated in the business environment and its benefits are very valuable. That
is the reason why so many businesses decide to invest in information systems. Mainly, it increases

Then, they had to confirm the availability of seats, check the price and reserve the seats if the
customer was pleased with the offer. The huge disadvantage of this system was not only its time
consuming and complexity. Most importantly, it was impossible to get real time view of the inventory
since airlines couldn t synchronize data from multiple locations more than once a day. What is more,
human errors were frequent and lack of security was common.
2.2 First Computerized Reservation System SabreÂź
In 1953, C.R. Smith, president of American Airlines and R. Blair Smith, a senior sales representative
for International Business Machines Corporations met on American Airlines flight from Los Angeles
to New York. Their conversation about the travel industry sparked an idea for a data processing
system that could create and manage airline seat reservations and instantly make that data available
electronically to any travel agent at any location. As a result, Semi Automated Business Research
Environment was born in 1964 and developed as a dual effort between those two companies. (SabreÂź,

Alexander the Great s Determination
After the death of King Darius III, Alexander began to introduce his Policy of Fusion . He believed
that if the two traditions (Macedonian and Persian) could be blended and assimilated , his authority
would be more securely established and would rest on good will rather than on force, according to
ancient historian Plutarch. This tell us that Alexander did not want to destroy the Persia that Darius
and his ancestors had set up and replace it with a Macedonian ruling. Quoting Plutarch, He understood
that the sharing of race and customs is a great step towards the softening of men s heart . Alexander
knew that if he were to change Persia to a Macedonian ruling, the Persians would not have obeyed nor
trusted him. He instead opted to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the year 224 BC, a mass wedding was held in Susa. Alexander had arranged for himself to marry
Barsine, Darius s eldest daughter, and another one, Parysatis, the daughter of Ochus. In addition, he
gave his companions the daughters of the most notable Medes and Persians [Arrian] summing up to
80 weddings in total, all of which the weddings were celebrated in Persian fashion. The wedding
established Alexander as the Great King of both Macedonia and Persia as he could now claim to be
the son and heir of both previous Persian kings. It also signified the transfer of power to the
Macedonians through the marriage to leading Persian women. Much like his successors, the children
of these marriages were to be taught Greek and trained in Macedonian customs and have the added
advantage of mixed parentage. According to J.R Hamilton, the Susa wedding brought to a climax his
policy of fusing Macadeonians and Persians into a single race . This is no doubt an example of
Alexander s strong determination of combining both traditions. However, upon Alexander s death, all
the men divorced their wives with the exception of Hephaestion (who died eight months prior to
Alexander) and Seleucus. This showed how much Alexander s men disliked his

  • 2. A Rose Is Still A Rhodes (Rose) A Rhodes (rose) is still a Rhodes (rose) Introduction Like the rose that grew from concrete, life is hard. Never give up! You ll make it to the sunshine of success. Never give up! J. Lewis A s you look at the rose that grew from concrete, what do you see? Do you see the damaged petals? Or are you in awe to see the rose that actually grew from concrete? The truth is we never know what molded an individual into the person that is presented to the outside world. Just like the rose that grew from concrete, we view people from their outer being rather than from their soul. My tenacious behavior is much like that rose. That rose that grew from concrete willed itself to survive and bloom despite the laws of nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This course has broadened my world view and piqued my interest of subfields in philosophy. For an example in A Lesson Before Dying, and Midwives, different philosophical phenomena s emerged from the pages of each novel philosophy of the mind, religion, and science. Philosophy of the mind: Both novels were reflective of human emotions, such as desire, passion and feelings. Philosophy of religion: Lesson Before Dying, religious symbolism was used throughout the novel. Grant and Pastor Ambrose were continually battling over religious beliefs and spirituality. Philosophy of science: Midwives, the trial of Sybil traditionalists vs. modernists. This course has helped me think outside the box and dissect a work of art, and identify underlying questions that provides me a better understanding of what the writer is trying to portray to their audience. • 3. Compare And Contrast The Waterfall And Agile Method Of... 1. Introduction For this paper, I will be comparing the Waterfall and Agile methods of software development. The primary articles used for citations will be from Agile for millennials: a comparative study and The Waterfall That Won t Go Away with supplementing citations from Hybrid Software and System Development in Practice: Waterfall, Scrum, and Beyond. 2. Definition The Waterfall and Agile methods are amongst some of the most popular methods of software development. The Waterfall method is essentially a sequential approach for software development. At each stage of a project, the all tasks and goals need to be completed before moving to the next stage with the goal of reducing error. The first signs of the Waterfall method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both articles also suggest that education is avkey issue on the eventual adoption of the Agile and hybrid methodologies. Chatterjee suggests that hybrid approaches need to be slowly introduced in the workplace with the software development culture embracing the Agile method. Missiroli, Russo and Ciancarini suggest education as the root approach to make this change. However, it is evident that both methods are necessary. In fact, in the article Hybrid Software and System Development in Practice: Waterfall, Scrum and Beyond , the hybrid Water Scrum Fall method is tested. The study found that it is in fact a widely used practice, regardless of company size, industry and other external practices. Although it is still being tested with a larger population, early conclusions suggest that the hybrid method is the best approach (Kuhrmann, et al., 2017, pp. 30, 38 39). Therefore, each organization should focus on education with both methods and adopt some level of a hybrid method. The next question is if there is a formal development strategy that could be widely adopted or if both methodologies should be assessed on a case by case basis and at different degree of granularity. 5. Childhood experiences can affect and determine adult personalities. This abuse, though it can be repressed, may never be completely devoid from a victim s memory. These effects can be long lasting and damaging to a victim s overall health. Child abuse has long lasting effects on a person s mentality and emotional state. During early infancy and childhood years, a child s brain develops at an incredible pace that it will never again experience. Studies about early childhood development indicate that the brain develops in response to experiences with caregivers, family and the community, and that its development is directly linked to the quality and quantity of those experiences ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). However, being able to recognize the physical effects of abuse can be a crucial part of identifying abusive situations. Common physical effects that have been observed in children who have been physically or sexually abused include: welting, bruises, abrasions, difficulty walking or sitting, poor hygiene, and torn, bloody, or inappropriate clothing ( Effects of Child Abuse and Neglect ). Sometimes the physical effects of abuse are not from the source of neglect. Often children will develop a harmful tick as a way of coping or suppressing the traumatic memories. There are two photographs, one is the mascot character and the other is the founder of the fast food shop which are famous in the United States and of course Japan. It is so famous that no one in the world knows these two people. First, I d like to compare these two pictures. And, there is work to help digestive activity, too. Therefore, when the red sign and the red object come into your eyes, you feel hungry, and go into the store. And, the red color has the effect of showing the hot dishes so that the temperature is high. The cooking of the warm atmosphere makes the image which is fresh. In addition, it s common for Donald and the kernel to be smiling. Smiles increase customer sentiment and lead to customer satisfaction. By the way Donald is a mascot character, McDonald s is selling a smile at 0 yen. • 12. Theme Of Richard Bone The subject matter of death isn t the theme of this poem. The poem prevails truth being disguised and manipulated over documented history. This not only opens the mind into questioning whether historical events truly happened the way historians say it did, or whether documentation can prove a justification of truth, but it forces the second idea to raise questions whether any of the history being told is true at all. The poem Richard Bone carries out this idea strongly. The reason this poem plays an interest in my mind is that it synthesizes to current events happening every day in the real world in a variety of ways. Richard Bone is prone to the idea that evil dominates the goodness in the world, so why don t some of the tombstones describe the characteristics that were strongly disliked of that certain individual? Only being described as a good person only prevails that the truth is being hidden. After all, because the tombstone represents what the person was, people paying for the chisels wanted to remember the goodness in the heart of that individual, not that that person at some point in their lives betrayed them. Tombstones are a certain scar. Richard Bone, tells up to be aware. In the poem Richard Bone there a very few parts of the poem where it appeals to my senses. However, there are a few, specifically the line that reads, ...made myself party to the false chronicles Of the stones, Without absolute hesitation, Richard Bone delights himself with the idea that he will always profit from his job economically. He forces himself to think that the truth does not matter as long as he has lived and he is successful. • 13. Analysis Of Peaceful Warrior Dan v.s His Ego Dan s pride and ego gets to the best of him. It makes Dan do things that are out of his comfort zone. What if Dan had the chance to change that, would he take that opportunity to become better? In the movie, Peaceful Warrior Dan Millman had the opportunity to change himself for the better. Dan had the chance to rethink his ways, his actions and do the right things. Throughout the movie it was Dan v.s his alter ego, but that changed when he meets a man named Socrates. In the beginning of the movie Dan lets his ego get to the best of him while he was practicing his flips and tricks on the rings. Dan was trying to practice landing a triple flip on the rings for his big finisher of his routine. While Dan was on the rings everything was rushing through his head, he was not focused, he was not determined to land the flip. Dan thought he could make the flip not matter what, but he did not know that his ego started to come out and take over. For Dan s ego coming out he was not able to land the triple flip that he wanted to land. When Dan did not make the flip, and fell on his face on the mate underneath him the coach, Coach Garrick said something like You have a big ego, stop with the ego, so you can become better and make the landing. What the coach is trying to tell Dan is that is ego is way too big, he needs to let it go, and his ego is getting in the way of him landing the triple flip and become better at what he loves to do. Dan starts to think about what Coach Garrick tells him and then Dan meets an old man named Socrates that helps him start to let go of his ego and his old ways. Later, in the movie Dan starts to clear his mind and listens to what Socrates has to say, but his ego still comes and goes. Dan starts to what Socrates tells him to do without getting mad or upset, but his ego still floats around with him because he still did not take out the trash that s in his head, but during practice one day he did take out the trash. This virus, most likely originating in China over 1000 years ago, is transmitted by human contact with mice. Only relatively recently has the hanta virus captured the attention of the United States. Although the hanta virus has been known for such a long time, there is little known about the virus. Most infections of the hanta virus resulted from contact with mice or their droppings in homes while cleaning (Ince). The first symptoms of the hanta virus are often characterized as flu like. This includes a fever, coughing and muscle fatigue (www.pharminfo.com). Other beginning symptoms may also include chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain (www.bepestfree.com). Untreated or severe cases can lead to fluid in the lungs, causing respiratory failure and ultimately, death (www.nmus.edu). Not typically reported, the hanta virus can also cause kidney failure, again with the possibility of leading to death (www.latinolink.com). As of March 17, 1997, there were 158 confirmed cases of the hanta virus in the United States (www.bepestfree.com). As of July 1996 there were 133 cases of the hanta virus confirmed in the United States, and approximately half of these cases lead to death (www.nmsu.edu). There are several steps that can be taken to reduce the risk contracting the hanta virus. One highly recommended measure is to spray mouse feces, dead mice or areas inhabited by mice with a water and bleach solution (5:1). • 16. The Effects Of Child Labor Laws On Children And The Value... Every single individual experiences childhood as a part of life s journey, yet no two individuals share the same experiences, therefore when asking people to define childhood and what is considered appropriate approaches to deal with children, perspectives and opinions vary significantly. Independently of people s different perceptions of childhood, modern society has come to a consensus that children are different from adults and must be spared from the burdens of the labor force. However, child labor impacts the way society views children and the value it places upon them. What is childhood and how is it perceived throughout history? The pioneer of the history of childhood Philippe AriĂšs, defines it as a social construct that is culturally determined and establishes the expectations set for children, which are determined by social leaders and experts (Hawes and Hiner 381). Since social values change overtime, the expectations that society places upon children also changes. In order to understand the importance of child labor laws, and the factors that contributed to the perception that children are not supposed to work, it is important to understand the role of child labor and how the concept of childhood changed throughout history. The perception of the importance of focusing on children and the part that they play in society, was not a substantial matter of focus and study in previous eras. Consequently, history of childhood is fairly new, and there are limited sources ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three individuals improved how medicine is practiced and the precautions to take. Hippocrates once said, It s far more important to know the person the disease has than what disease the person has. The three pioneers of the medical field Florence Nightingale, Joseph Lister, and Edward Jenner changed the way medicine is practiced today. Firstly, Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy on the 12th of May in 1820. She had a very wealthy family. When Florence was sixteen years old on February 7, 1837, she heard the voice of God calling her to carry out some special work. As she had the want to help people, she was lead to believe that God wanted her to be a nurse. Being a nurse was unusual for the upper class because nurses were known to come from poor families. The want of becoming a nurse never went away so she went to Kaiserwerth to nurse training (James). In addition, Florence actually lead a team of 38 nurses to staff an overseas hospital of the British army during the Crimean War. It was reported that there were unsanitary conditions that got the public concerned, so the secretary requested for a team of nurses to provide help. • 21. Puritan Oppression In The Conformist Society, By Nathaniel... In order to castigate the overwhelming and unfair standards of Puritan beliefs that strip nonconformists of dignity, self identity, and acceptance in society, Nathaniel Hawthorne illuminates the demoralizing, prejudiced, and unforgiving views and punishments of religious Massachusetts colonists. Because Hawthorne intends to criticize the hypocrisy and oppression within the conformist community, his downcast and disconsolate illustrations expose the strict and relentless mandates of Puritan ideology. But, in that early severity of the Puritan character, [...] it might be that a sluggish bond servant, or an undutiful child, whom his parents had given over to the civil authority, was to be corrected at the whipping post [...] or an idle and vagrant Indian, whom the white man s fire water had made riotous about the streets, was to be driven with stripes into the shadow of the forest. (Hawthorne 47). By portraying an array of very different types of people such as the servant, child, and Indian, all of whom are subjected to Puritan law, Hawthorne laments the fact that anyone if convicted by the orthodox Puritans can be punished. The illustration of a child being whipped in public because his own parents turned him in is sickening; it fully envelopes Hawthorne s view of unfair and repulsive treatment of nonconformists and sinners. Similarly, the visual description of an Indian being driven with stripes , or in other words, being chased with a whip, once again accentuates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Moby Dick Research Paper It is not everyday that a man is able to write himself into history, only the greatest and most daring writers are able to break the threshold of humanity and ascend into the history books. Growing up with two of the most influential grandfathers who were both Revolutionary heroes, Herman Melville grew into a great writer. Bankruptcy and the loss of his father at age 12 had such a big impact on Herman that he was taken out of school and forced to work. He self taught himself and briefly went back to school to study Engineering (Reiff 9 11). During his early 20s, Melville was unable to get a job in engineering. He faced economic hardships which influenced him to go on voyages as an escape from his problems. Sailing consisted of relaxing and romanticizing with beautiful islanders despite the horrors of military punishments he experienced (Reiff 13). From 1844 to 1857, Melville spent his years as a full time writer to gain prestige and money while supporting his family (American Experience). Melville became known for one of his novels, Moby Dick, which was dedicated to Nathaniel Hawthorne. Moby Dick is known as one of the Greatest American Novels because the story had an exciting plot, philosophical statements, many comparisons, and symbols making the novel very complex. The complexity of the literary writing symbolized romance, particularly the romance of the sea. The novel was based on the life of a sailor who experienced a tragic voyage and a white whale named Moby Dick. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Racism In The Brothers, By Louisa May Alcott Louisa May Alcott s The Brothers, highlights the wickedness of slavery and the issue of racial superiority through the depiction of Bob s story, which is told primarily through the narration of Miss Dane. Through Miss Dane s interaction with Bob, one can deduce that she is rather complacent in the quest against slavery and does little to break down the racial divide. In addition, Miss Dane claims authority over Bob s identity right away, which prohibits Bob from attaining a sense of liberty and merely continues the vicious cycle of oppression. Bob also exhibits signs of self hatred due to his mixed race, finding it difficult to identify with neither blacks nor whites. The nation s current racial conflict also makes it difficult for Miss Dane to escape prejudice herself, which Alcott conveys through Miss Dane s attitude toward Bob s behavior. Although Robert escapes slavery, it becomes rather difficult for him to escape prejudice. Alcott condemns Miss Dane s actions in The Brothers, because of the way she claims ownership over Bob, which consequently prohibits Robert from claiming an identity of his own. Upon meeting Bob for the first time, Miss Dane immediately claims authority over him by choosing a name that she deems acceptable. Answering these basic questions may summarize much of the information regarding Quasar. What is the definition of a quasar? When radio telescopes were first turned on the heavens, point sources of radio waves were discovered (along with spread out regions of emission along our Milky Way). Astronomers using ordinary visible light telescopes turned toward these radio points and looked to see what was there. In some cases a supernova remnant was found, in others, a large star birth region, in others a distant galaxy. But in some places where point sources of radio waves were found, no visible source other than a stellar looking object was found (it looked like a point of a star). These objects were called the quasi stellar radio sources or quasars for short. Later, it was found these sources could not be stars in our galaxy, but must be very far away as far as any of the distant galaxies seen. We now think these objects are the very bright centers of some distant galaxies, where some sort of energetic action is occurring, most probably due to the presence of a supermassive black hole at the center of that galaxy. (Supermassive made up from a mass of about a billion solar masses.) What do quasars have to do with black holes? It is thought the infall of matter into the Supermassive black hole can result ... (2.2.34) Crimanals who kill or rape are the most cowardly of them all. They deserve to suffer; they must face their cowardice actions with suffering. Capital Punishment or the death penalty is the act of killing someone as punishment for a serious crime. There is not much justice in the death penelty, no suffering is ever involved. Infact, death can even be considered an honor. A person commiting a serious crime is always aware that they might be caught. They know that the death penelty is a possibilty. Life in prison might even be worse. Death is bliss compared to being caught. Many people commit mass murder and kill themselfs afterwards, all with the satisfaction of inflicting pain on others because of their own suffering. As the 4 x2 image of his business partner illuminated his face, Baird was completely unaware of the influence this new medium would have on the opinions and attitudes of the people of the world. Television represented a new opportunity to bring not only audio like radio but to place an image in every home. Along with the work of many other inventors television was soon to become a viable medium of entertainment and news but it did face many setbacks. At first television was a novelty, completely overshadowed by the established medium of radio. Before World War II very few homes contained a television and broadcasters mostly aired 15 minute segments and were limited in technology. Then on September 1, 1939 Hitler and Germany invaded Poland and the world plunged into World War II. The FCC issued a ban on the construction of television equipment causing the growth of television to stagnate. At the end of the war economic prosperity and a rising middle class opened the door for a new rise in the purchase of goods. One such good was the television. In 1947 only a few thousand homes owned a television. By 1950 six million homes contained a television, and in 1960 around 60 million homes contained a television.
