An Analysis Of Erhard Schon s The Vienna Woods And...
When looking through the pages of history, without any doubt one will eventually find themselves
reading the detailed recounts of crimes committed during War. When read from the perspective of
those who experienced the events, we can feel their pain, desperation and helplessness. From those
who enforced these ordeals onto others, we delve into their minds and see the world as they did; what
drove their actions and how they felt.
In this instance, two chosen documents can be analysed side by side in order to understand the
savagery that is inflicted upon both parties during the expansion of Empire: Erhard Schön s
illustrations that accompany the translated texts of the Turkish Riders with Christian Captives, Turkish
Atrocities in the Vienna Woods and Siegfried Sassoon s poem Atrocities . Both pieces are a
representation of different points of view during two different wars. However, though they may be
separated by 500 years, both are easily able to relay the pain that is trust upon common everyday
people who are involved in circumstances outside of their control.
Born in Germany, Schön adopted Lutheranism during the 1520s and began designing woodcuts that
would more often than not amuse, outrage or enlighten the public . In these two particular works of
art, they depict how the Turkish soldiers [choked their] children and were murdering virgins and
wives, cutting children in half and impaling them on pikes . This appeal to Ethos ultimately leads the
reader to feel

The Importance Of Romantic Literature
In conclusion of her famous Letter to the Women of England, on the Injustice of Mental Subordination
(1799), Mary Robinson listed in alphabetical order the names of over forty contemporary women
writers who by the prevalent injustice and literary subordination were not or only partially recognized
for their contributions to the British literary community of the romanticism era. The list contained the
names of well known and relatively obscure women writers, poets, novelists, essayists and dramatists,
including the likes of well known Mary Wollstonecraft, Ann Radcliffe, and the relatively unknown
author of Biography, letters, c. Mrs. Thickness . In her closing assertion, she stated that there are men
who affect, to think lightly of the literary productions of women: and yet no works of the present day
are so universally read as theirs . This assertion resonates with Stephen C. Brehrendt s position on the
fate and honor accorded to women writers, novelists, essayists, dramatists and particularly poets of the
romanticism era, and the need to rewrite and remap the concept of influence, and the structuralism
literary and cultural theory that tends to want to place women at the periphery of romantic poetry
rather than the center where they truly belong in his article the New Romanticism for Old: Displacing
Our Expectations and Our Models . In his article, he opined like Mary Robinson, that the activities
and literary works of British women authors were as influential as

A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and...
A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and Hope and Glory produced by John
Boorman There are many significant similarities and differences between the two extracts I have
studied. A common similarity being the era they are set in; during the Second World War. Although the
two pieces of drama are set in the same time period, they offer a great contrast in terms of their setting.
Blue Remember Hills, set in 1943, is a naturalistic play situated in the countryside. Whereas Hope and
Glory very much displays the effects of war in towns and cities, particularly the suburbs of London. In
addition Blue Remember Hills follows the life of a gang of children who are played by adult actors ...

In my research I incorporate the evacuation of children during the Second World War. During the
Second World War many children were evacuated from the major towns and cities Main targets for
bombing) into the countryside which was considered to be a safer place. At first many evacuees felt
homesick and uncomfortable with their new surrounding but adapted quickly to the open fields and
freedom of the countryside. Many received good homes where they were well cared for and provided
with hearty meals. However this was not the case for all evacuees. A minority of the evacuees were
taken advantage of and used for domestic help around the house and some were even abused. This
applies to Donald Duck in Blue Remember Hills. However it is clearly evident in characters such as
easy going Willie, that the countryside takes away the restrictions in the cities and provides an safe,
open environment for a child imagination to wonder, provides a good contrast to this as the film shows
the dangers that the children face in their everyday lives, even the games they play on things they
collect refer to war. Various themes are used through out the pieces, some of which include bullying,
war, death, childhood innocence gangs, bullying and the classification of gender. However Hope and
Glory has the additional themes

The Accomplishment of Gertrude B. Elion
Elion accomplished a lot in her 81 years working. She started out teaching biochemistry at New York
hospital school of nursing, and then she was an unpaid chemistry lab assistant. She stuck with this job,
hoping to eventually get paid and even made $20 a week, which is one of the reasons she was able to
attend New York University (Koenig, 2006). She scrimped and saved and had help from her
boyfriend, Leonard Canter (McGrayne, 2002). While in school, she taught as a teacher in training as
well as a substitute (Elion, 1988). At the same time she was doing research for her Master s at night
and on the weekends to keep up. She eventually got a job doing analytical work for a food company.
She did gain excellent instrumentation skills in this job even though she thought of it as quite boring.
After this, Johnson and Johnson hired her, but that was short lived. Many people wanted to work with
Elion, but she refused many job offers and agreed to work with George Hitchings at Burroughs
Wellcome Company. IV: Scientific Contributions George Hitchings allowed Elion a lot more freedom.
She was able to perform research at her own pace, which she loved because she was highly motivated
to learn as much as possible, as fast as possible. She got involved with areas outside of chemistry, like
immunology, pharmacology, and virology (McGrayne, 2002). Little was known about enzymes or
nucleic acids at the time, so her main focus was on purines. Hitchings would always let Elion know
that he was

The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay
Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of
fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased
worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered
the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are
overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12
billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey
Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8
percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from
terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the
epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare
spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart
disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson,
2008; Alosco et al., 2015). In addition to the costs to healthcare systems, obesity undermines the
productivity of employees, thereby undercutting corporate competitiveness. According to the
Australian Bureau of Statistics (2013), during the period between 2011 and 2012, 62.8 percent of

Gibbon Research Paper
Gibbons eat a wide variety of foods. Their diet is comprised mostly of fruit, but also contains leaves,
flowers and insects. Figs are the primary component of a gibbon s diet, making up about a quarter of
what gibbons eat daily. Depending on the availability and scarcity of other foods however, figs can be
up to fifty percent of their daily intake. Diet varies by season and availability. For example, during
cooler seasons the availability of flowers is higher, and during hotter, wetter seasons fresh fruit is more
abundant. Regardless of the changes in availability however, fruit always comprises at least fifty
percent of a gibbon s diet. Beyond fruit, gibbons have been found to eat over one hundred different
species of plants. Leaves, vines,

Torture At Abu-Ghraib
The Torture at Abu Ghraib was a horrible event that took place around 2004 where prisoners were
taken and dehumanized. A total of 3,800 of detainees were in the prison when the dehumanizing was
taken place by making men of Islamic culture preform homosexual acts on each other. In addition to
this, the guards of the prison would have these people completely nude and chain them to the doors of
the cells with others around. When the military guards were prosecuted and brought to trial because of
these horrendous acts bestowed on these prisoners most of them said that they were just following
orders . Which, as bad as it sounds, could pose an explanation for what happened at the Abu Ghraib
prison. More into this, a researcher by the name of

Impact of Globalization on Business and Management Education
Impact of Globalization on Business and Management Education
The business sector in India is highly promising in the present scenario. The impact of globalization
has changed the business procedure in India in terms of psychology, methodology, technology,
mindset work culture etc. Newer challenges, newer opportunities are day by day in front of Indian
industries, which are profitable and prospective.
The fundamental scope of doing business in India is lying with its people. The huge population of
India has created a large unsaturated market of consumers. This is one of the reasons why global
companies are very much interested in doing business in India. In the post globalization era this scope
has increased immensely for global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competitive forces are expected to take Indian industry out of inertia and place it on a dynamic
growth path. In this context, it is important to know how far economic liberalization and globalization
has succeeded in changing the market structure so as to allow more competitive free play. Market
competition is in turn expected to influence the performance of industry positively. It is proposed to
study changes in the market structure for different industries in terms of the number of units, size
structure and ownership patterns in the 1990s as compared with the 1980s, using unit level data for the
organized industry. This is to be followed up by a study of the performance of these units / industries
in terms of efficiency and productivity. A related question to be examined is how the new economic
environment has influenced the entry and exit of firms, their competitive strategies, and their pricing
behavior.
Reforms and the Corporate Sector
The corporate sector constitutes a dominant part of industry. Financial sector reforms along with the
development of the capital market are changing the structure of corporate financing. This has led to a
separation of ownership and the management and has given rise to the issue of corporate governance,
among others. Corporate governance essentially deals with the ways of governing the corporations so
as to improve their financial performance. The need for governance arises mainly due

Ragamuffin Gospel Reflection
I have read 100% of the book in the past and 75% this time (some skimming).
What I enjoy most/least about the text. This is the second time I have read The Ragamuffin Gospel by
Brennan Manning (2005), and I still feel like it is a must read for any Christian. The first time I read
this book I remember being awed by God s Grace for ragamuffins and how that relates to my
interactions with people; when I showed God s grace, and when I did not. I still remember specific
times when God reminded me how much he loved the broken and how I could be his hand outreached
by being Jesus with skin on . I also remember specific times when I knew God was directing me to
love on someone, and I for one reason or another, I did not. The first time I read Manning s book, I fell
more in love with people because it helped get a glimpse of how much God loved a ragamuffin. Now
that I am older and life has been harder, I read Manning s book in a different light. Unlike the first
time, where I was reminded how much God loves others; this time it reminds me how much God loves
me! Even though my faith has faltered, and I have had series of doubts and struggles with trust, God
sill loves me. While reading the same words I did several years ago I am seeing things differently.
What I learned. During the past year, I have been doing a great deal of stretching . I have sought out
help to heal from past hurts and continue to look for ways to restore and grow. Along the way I
discovered that my

Impact Of Rearmament And Remilitarization
Rearmament and Remilitarization Hitler s Path to Power
The strongest military power in Europe. On April 2, 1936, this haunting description of the strength of
Nazi Germany was made by Louis Maurin, the French Minister of War at the time (Deist). 18 years
earlier, the allied powers had crippled German military strength, limited the size of her standing army
to 100,000 men, prohibited the manufacturing of arms, and virtually liquidated the German Navy and
Air Force after their defeat in World War I (Britannica). For years, Germany and her people suffered
under devastating financial crises and debilitating terms stipulated in the Treaty of Versailles. As
frustration and a hunger for change swept across the nation, a young and charismatic orator by the
name of Adolf Hitler began to gather support in cities and beerhalls across the country (Kershaw). As
his power grew, Hitler began to disregard regulations set into place by the Treaty of Versailles, testing
Britain and France s will to intervene (Deist). By defying the military restrictions imposed on
Germany by the Treaty of Versailles, Adolf Hitler solidified his position as the supreme ruler of
Germany s Third Reich.
During the 1920s and early 1930s, Hitler began encouraging the growth of the German war industry
while also recruiting hundreds of thousands of Nazi Party members to join the ranks of his para
military force, the Sturmabteilung (Robertson). On March 16, 1935, after years of building German
military strength

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Essay
Sudden cardiac arrest
Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating.
When this happens blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. Arrhythmias can cause
SCA. An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat and what causes an arrhythmia is when the electrical
system that controls the rate and rhythm of the heart isn t functioning properly. During an arrhythmia
the heart can beat too fast too slow or an irregular rhythm. Some arrhythmias can cause the heart to
stop pumping blood to the body which causes SCA. Some people think that SCA is the same as a heart
attack, but a heart attack happens if the blood flow to part of the heart muscle is blocked. During a
heart attack the heart doesn t usually suddenly stopped beating, however SCA can happen after or
during recovery from a heart attack. People who have heart disease are at a higher risk for SCA
however it still possible for people who appear to be healthy and have no known heart disease to have
SCA. Most people who have SCA do die from it within minutes. Fast treatment of SCA with a
defibrillator can sometimes help. Ventricular fibrillation causes most SCA. Ventricular fibrillation is
another type of arrhythmia. During ventricular fibrillation the heart s lower ... Show more content on

Doctors rarely diagnose SCA with medical test as it is happening. SCA is often diagnosed after it
happened. Doctors do this by ruling out other causes of a person sudden collapse. Doctors do use
several tests to help detect what puts a person at risk for SCA. A few tests doctors use are EKG,
cardiac MRI, blood tests and more. EKG s test the rhythm and records the heart electric activity. This
test shows the rhythm of the heart. Cardiac MRI test are taken to show how well your heart is
pumping blood. Blood tests are even used to check levels of potassium and other chemicals in your
blood. These chemicals can play an important role in your heart s electrical

Symbolism In Inside Out And Back Again By Thanhha Lai
Symbolism is very prevalent in Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai. A papaya, a doll and a
chick, and an amethyst ring are included. These symbols show an ending and a beginning, home, and
love. Symbolism is used throughout the story to develop themes and lessons. Topics can more easily
understood through the use of symbolic items. In the story, the papaya is a major symbol. It represents
the end to one life and the beginning to another. As Ha was growing up she would watch her papaya
tree grow as she did. It would grow two times as tall as her on her tippy toes. Brother Vu chops;/ the
head falls;/ a silver blade slices (Lai 60). Ha s family was fleeing South Vietnam to escape their war
torn home which the Communists of the north were taking over. Brother Vu wanted to chop the tree
down so the Communists could never enjoy the sweet fruit. The family left their home behind, and
ended a chapter of their life. Life as they knew it was over. Black seeds spill/ like clusters of eyes,/ wet

With the political strife increasing in the nation the Shah was forced into exile with his family. This all
happened on January 16,1979 two weeks after this event Khomeini returned to Iran after fourteen

Khomeini reinstated and imposed Islamic law anything that was western and established punishments

The Effects Of Prenatal Hormones On The Developing Fetus
Why some people are attracted to members of their own sex whereas others are attracted to members
of the opposite sex is no known cause or reason. There is belief to it possible contributing from
genetics, hormonal and the environmental influences. One study stated that there is a 50 percent
chance that if one identical twin is homosexual or bisexual, the other twin is too. Similar findings lead
that some researchers estimate that sexual orientation is 30 to 70 percent genetic (Mustanski, Chivers,
Bailey, 2002). Another research suggests that sexual orientation is impacted by a gene or genes found
on the X chromosome. Though genetic tendencies for homosexuality may be passed from mothers to
their children (Rahman Wilson, 2003). During human evolution, homosexuality was developed to
minimize competition between males for a limited number of potential female mates (Schulling,
2004). A different possibility is that prenatal hormone levels influence the developing fetus (Levay,
2011). According to the prenatal hormonal theory of homosexuality, some male fetuses are exposed to
too little testosterone. Similarly, some female fetuses are exposed to too much testosterone. These
differences, in turn, can impact sexual orientation (Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002). Regardless,
homosexuality is not caused by hormone imbalances in adulthood; the hormone levels of most gay
men and lesbians are within the normal range (Banks Gartrell, 1995). Hormonal imbalances

Through this scheme, it may help the economy but it do raise another impacts which may unstabilize
the society, such as the quality migrant may enhance the cultural difference.
To sum up, same sex marriage has destroyed the traditional system of marriage. This cannot be solved
by adopting children, in addition, homosexual parents may lead the negative impacts to their adopted
child and may affect their childhood. Furthermore, labour force will be lowered if same sex marriage
be legalized since the amount of offspring are lowered cause the rate of traditional marriages
decreased. With less amount of labour force in the society, the productivity may also decreased.
Consequently, same sex marriage should not be legalized in Hong Kong.

King Liuokalani Characteristics
King Kamehameha the Great and Queen Liliuokalani were both strong and effective leaders of the
Hawaiian Kingdom. Kamehameha unified the islands while Liliuokalani tried to obtain it, without
both of these leader Hawai i would not be what it is like today. Both reigned decades apart, but had a
great impact on the Hawaiian culture, kapu system, economic system, class ranking, and other
components of Hawaii s life. Kamehameha reigned from 1810 to 1819 as the first ruler of all the
Hawaiian Islands. Kamehameha, a strong and determined leader was led to victory for all the
Hawaiian Islands, after many years at battle against his enemies, which included Kahekili, Kiwala o,
Keoua, etc. (Potter, Kadson, Rayson, Page 23). Liliuokalani reigned much later from 1891 to 1898 ,
she was the first woman to be on the throne and also the last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian
Islands(History.com Staff). Liliuokalani was a courageous and respectful leader, she fought to keep
the throne and was persistent in trying to repeal many treaties and constitutions that her brother was

Ancient Greek Covert Actions
Covert actions involves the use of military and political operatives as an intelligence activity, aimed at
a specific target and undertaken in such a way that it does not reveal the identity of the source of the
action. Through this concealment, the identity of the actor is disguised, providing deniability (Burgos,
2009). Covert actions, including information gathering and assassination have existed in many forms
over the centuries and have developed through necessity for a particular civilization. The Egyptians
focused on spying to gain the upper hand on its political rivals Greece and Rome. Through many wars,
Greece perfected its implementation of deception to surprise its enemies (Holmes, n.d.). Following

The 1960s Of The 70s
Ever wonder what it s like to be back in the 70s? Well I certainly do! Every decade has a special
significant and I believe that we should learn about it. In the 1970s, it was a time period filled with
equality fighting, freedom opportunity, change, and war. One interesting fact that I noticed in the 70s
is that it is a continuation of the 60s. During this decade, women continued to fight for their equality
and Americans joined the protest against the Vietnam War that was going on during this time. The
1970s was a time of great change. Some of these great changes had to deal with the fashion industries,
technologies, and even transportation. Not only that, but in the 70s, types of music s changed and so
did art. For example, there was an increase in Installation Art during this time period. Even though the
1970s had great changes that improved the world, it also had some of its downfalls. In the political
area, Nixon, as a president during this time, caused destruction. In addition, during this decade, there
were several assassination attempts on presidents and it was also the beginning on terrorists. It is
important for people to learn details about past decades. To truly understand about the 70s, you must

overeating. I think as a future health educator it s really important to understand that distinction and be
aware of the emotional causes for overeating and binge eating disorder. I rated emotional as number
two on my list because it is emotions that are driving my overeating. It s possible it should be number
one considering since it s the underlying cause the physical behavior I want to change. I am aware that
it s mostly anxiety that is making me overeat or aggravation by family. I ll have work on find ways to
deal with these stressors. I recently changed my study area due to lighting and other comfort issues.
The biggest plus to where I was studying it that was quiet and private. What the change of area made

He believed that minimal role of state in the economy and whether people act out of self interest will
benefit to the society. Invisible hand will regulate the market which at once satisfies self interest and
the needs of the community. Hence Smith s considered political economy as the study of wealth
generation . (Babe 2009: 14) Karl Marx with other economists worked on Labour theory of Value
(Babe: 14) believing that workers have rights to be paid for their work (labour). This is another
important characteristic of classical political economy. But on the other hand he claimed that (to be in
opposition to Adam Smith s theory) free market polarises wealth where rich people get richer and poor
get even poorer. So the public ownership of the means of production is the only way of equal
distribution of wealth. People act out unity and for the good of society. Neoclassical Political
Economy is all about consumers taste and preferences which is valued and preferred more than labour.
Class does not matter at all, but everyone is a consumer and cultural goods and services became
treated as commodity. In this neoclassical period of political economy the main question is how
humans want be most satisfied? And how markets function at the best? (Hesmondhalgh 2007)
Economics became essentially a mathematical deductive system in stark contrast to classical political
economy, which was fully engaged with the

What Are The Techniques Used In Strictly Ballroom
A life lived in fear is a life half lived . In order to communicate this idea in the screenplay Strictly
Ballroom , Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce employ techniques such as language, setting and stage
directions to construct images of characters Scott and Barry Fife who embody the theme of
individualism versus conformity. Additionally, the song I was only nineteen by Redgum also uses
alliteration, rhetorical questions and flashbacks to construct an image of a traumatised soldier and his
experiences of war. Throughout, the screenplay Strictly Ballroom the character Scott Hastings conveys
his desire to be more of an individual by injecting new steps into his dance routines. This idea is
illustrated through the stage directions and simile like a warrior into battle Scott throws himself into a

The Philosophy Of Total Quality Management
Total Quality Management (TQM) is the art of managing quality of whole activities of any
organization. TQM is a philosophy and we can say it is also a set of guiding principles that represent
the foundation of a continuously improving organization. It is the application to improve all the
processes within an organization and exceed customer needs issues of customer satisfaction and
guidance on implementing the marketing concept.
Total quality management deals completely with the quality word. It focuses on the quality of
products, quality of services, quality of management of staff, quality of services deliver to patrons and
so on. So the question is arising what is quality? In general terms quality relates to the feature or
characters or value of a product or service or similar offering.

Attempts to implement TQM regularly fail because top management does not lead and get committed
instead it delegates and pays edge service. Commitment and personal involvement is required from
top management in creating and deploying clear quality values and goals consistent with the
objectives of the organization, and in creating and deploying definite systems, methods and
performance measures for achieving those goals. These systems and methods guide all quality
activities and encourage participation by all employees.
Continuous improvement
Continuous improvement of all activities is at the heart of TQM. it is recognized that customer
satisfaction can only be obtained by providing a high quality product, continuous improvement of the
quality of the product. It is seen as the only way to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. As
well as recognizing the connection between product quality and customer satisfaction, TQM also
recognizes that product quality is the result of process quality. As a result, there is a focus on
continuous improvement of the organization s processes.

The Pros And Cons Of Texting And Driving
Every day there are many that are killed from texting and driving. So many people get injured or even
killed because of texting and driving. Several people are addicted to their phones, especially teens.
Teens are obsessed with their phones, they are always waiting for some to text them back. Texting and
driving is a distraction that everyone should avoid because it can result in injury or death to oneself or
others. This may result in property damage, and the probability for one to receive legal consequences.
Over fifty percent of people text while driving with children or passenger in the car. Most people will
drift into the other lane when they use the phone while driving. Texting while driving can cause
accidents. Some also think it s okay to speed or go over the speed limit while texting and driving.
Often drivers will even text while they have passengers in the car or small children. Over fifty percent
of people text while driving and most of them are young inexperienced drivers and think it;s cool to
text while driving(Harrison). People can get injured or even get killed, because one person was on the

Essay on The Solar System
The Solar System
What are planets? Planets are kinda like asteroid around the sun. There are nine planets in the solar
system, Mercury, Venus, Earth ( Our planet ), Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.
The Terrestrial Planets
The terrestrial planets are the four innermost planets in the solar system, Mercury, Venus, Earth and
Mars. They are called terrestrial because they have a compact, rocky surface like the Earth s. The
planets, Venus, Earth, and Mars have significant atmospheres while Mercury has almost none. The
following diagram shows the approximate distance of the terrestrial planets to the Sun.

Prominences are immense clouds of glowing gas that erupt from the upper chromosphere. The outer
region of the corona stretches far into space and consists of particles traveling slowly away from the
Sun. The corona can only be seen during total solar eclipses.
The Sun appears to have been active for 4.6 billion years and has enough fuel to go on for another five
billion years or so. At the end of its life, the Sun will start to fuse helium into heavier elements and
begin to swell up, ultimately growing so large that it will swallow the Earth. After a billion years as a
red giant, it will suddenly collapse into a white dwarf the final end product of a star like ours. It may
take a trillion years to cool off completely.
Mercury
It is the closest planet to the Sun, and second smallest planet in the solar system. Its diameter is 40%
smaller than Earth and 40% larger than the Moon. It is even smaller thanJupiter s moon Ganymede

My Success In My Life
Life for me was always as a failure. Too ignorant to be smart and too negligent to show my potential.
My life was beginning to dry up as it left me stranded with no hope. I was rotting away under my own
weight. But someone came into my life and she taught me the strength to lift myself up. As time grew
with her in my life, my passion to succeed and overcome emerged. My dearest friend gave me the
motivation to educate myself, to help me get a greater understand of my future, as well as making me
step outside my comfort zone. With all she has done and inspired me to do, she is my greatest role
model.
The first reason she has impact me, was giving me a reason to want to educate myself. Me and her

This program will also improve the city in long term goals by having individuals who are highly

employees can be documented by the human resources department and also quarterly reviews of

corruption amongst governmental official. An incident in which recently took place with Mayor
Bowser includes her new plans to shut down a previous homeless shelter at DC General within a
certain timeline. Individuals would then transfer to new housing in which Mayor Bowser found
private property in which the city would pay for this transitional housing from its budget. Council
members became suspicious when Mayor Bowser would not discuss how the property and zoning

The Roar Of Our Stars By Alice X
In the art work, The Roar of Our Stars by Alice X. Zhang, there are numerous details that are present.
In this piece there is a sky that starts off as dark blue and red towards the bottom, but as it gets to the
top it transitions to a less dark blue, and then to a light blue with a touch of a light red on the left side.
Across the sky there are what seems to be hundreds of white points with yellow tints that start off
distinct and small towards the bottom, while growing in size and have a faded look as they go up the
image. These points that represent stars each have red, white, orange, and blue glares that run up and
down vertically. These stars create a cluster towards the top left corner that creates a slightly blurred
white light. Centered on the bottom half of the page, there is a person in a light brown tweed jacket, a
white button up collared shirt with thin strips, and a red bowtie. This brown haired man is staring up,
smiling with his mouth ajar, towards the main cluster of stars that are creating the light shinning down
on him with his hands slightly raised at chest level.
In The Roar of Our Stars, there are many different visual elements that are present. The colors of this
image are one of the main elements that gives this piece of work its distinct look. The colors that are
located in this image are polychromatic and consist of: black, blue, red, orange, yellow, green, brown,

Enduring Love In Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights: An Ever Lasting Love Emily Bronte takes romance to a darker side in her gothic
novel Wuthering Heights. She develops a relationship between the characters and the setting which
further reveal her central themes and conveys her idea. Bronte s work of art makes an attempt to argue
that social class has the power to be a deciding factor in who one chooses to love. This is seen and
conveyed through her characterization, the setting, and revealed through central themes. In Wuthering
Heights complex characters are created to further emphasize how fatal attraction can lead to major
conflicts. Bronte s gothic spin begins with Heathcliff s character who arrives to Wuthering Heights
when Mr. Earnshaw returns from Liverpool. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is instantly recognized what the difference between the two settings is. Wuthering Heights is viewed
in a darker light whereas Thrushcross Grange is bright and more inviting. After the incident Catherine
is then ordered to stay at the Grange with the Linton s for a couple weeks. During this time, she
transforms from a wild savage girl (Baba) into a lady. Heathcliff recalls Catherine s superb treatment
at the Lintons, Afterwards, they dried and combed her beautiful hair, and gave her a pair of enormous
slippers, and wheeled her to the fire; as merry as she could be (Bronte) Catherine s treatment contrasts
the way Mr. Lockwood was greeted at Wuthering Heights. It is evident that the two manors are as
different as the people in them. A transformation is made in Catherine s appearance and character
when she marries Edgar and moves over to Grange where she experiences life being spoiled and
pampered as she pleases. When she is welcomed back to the Heights Heathcliff greets her and in
return is insulted when she laughs to find him dirty (55) Evidently, this supports that her
transformation is not only physical but also spiritual for her comparison between them two. Also
adding to the fact that the two manors are better understood as two different worlds. Even though
Catherine grew up in Heathcliff s world, her move has caused her to change making their love
impossible to pursue. Since then, she comes to spend more time with Edgar while cutting time to be
with Heathcliff. She explains to Nelly her reasons for taking Edgars hand in marriage the ground
under his feet, and the air over his head, and every thing he touches, and every word he says I love all
his looks, and all his actions, and him entirely, and altogether (Bronte) It is undeniable that her love
for Edgar is based off his prestige and not entirely for who he is. She is seduced by his wealth and

Social Categorization In Breakfast At Tiffany s
In psychology, social categorization is the process of classifying people into groups based on similar
characteristics. It is a natural part of social perception; it provides a mental shortcut in that it allows us
to infer traits about a person based on the traits of others in the same category (Social Categorization).
Applying the psychological idea of social categorization, Truman Capote uses the narrator to give an
impression of Holly Golightly s character, in Breakfast at Tiffany s, to be translucent and careless,
which illustrates her as achromatic, but in truth, those are the very characteristic that make her
mysterious and vibrant. Translucent is delineated by allowing light to pass through, but not seeing the
detailed image, one cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She demonstrates copious amount times throughout the book, instances of her escaping. An example
of this, is when O.J. Berman, Holly s agent, tells the narrator the story of why Holly is in New York: I
say what the hell are you doing in New York when it s Sunday and you got the test tomorrow? She
says I m in New York because I ve never been to New York. I say get your ass on a plane and get back
here, she says I don t want it. I say what s your angle, doll? She says you got to want it to be good and
I don t want it (Capote; 26). This is a perfect example of how when there is something Holly does not
want to do she runs away and in this case she ran all the way across the country. Holly does not care
who she is letting down or what previous commitments she has made, if she does not want to do it
then she will not do it. Holly is very unreliable in this case. Before California, Holly had ran away
from her husband Doc Golightly, another prime example of how undependable she is. Doc Golightly
tracked down the narrator to tell him that [Holly] knew good and well what she was doing when she
promised to be [his] wife and the mother of [his] churren. She plain broke [their] hearts when she ran
off like she done (Capote; 54). There was no reason for Holly to run off, but later Doc explains that
they starting getting magazine subscriptions, which Doc believes helped fuel the fire for Holly s
escape. The pictures in

Okeechobee County
Okeechobee County
Okeechobee County was created in 1917 from Osceola, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie
Counties. It is positioned in south central Florida, just west of the Fort Pierce region and
is named for the great lake that it surrounds. The chief industry is agriculture, and the
farms generate a huge amount of winter vegetables due to the natural soils of the county.
Beside agriculture and dairying, Okeechobee County has a very little industry of any
kind. The county is home to many local animals and plants sustained by the distinctive
environment surrounding Lake Okeechobee.

Philosophy Statement
When I finished junior high school I enrolled in a training program to teach elementary students in
some of the most remote regions of Mexico. I was excited about the prospect of teaching reading,
writing, and mathematics to underprivileged students in areas of my country that needed education
more than anything else to bring them into the modern era. I had seen the difference a few good
teachers had made in my life. It was one of my earliest ideas to help the youth in my country rise
above the limitations of their past and see the possibilities available to them with hard work in school.
My father did not think it was such a good idea to allow his 16 year old daughter to travel without
family or familiar chaperones to strange and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though I would have preferred to dabble in other courses and learn more of the liberal arts, I felt
an obligation to find, and finish a program that would yield the greatest monetary rewards for my
effort. I put my nose to the grindstone and worked to become the best accountant I could be. However,
as much as I wanted to become an accountant, I knew I would prefer teaching accounting more than
actually being an accountant.
Over time the subjects I want to teach have changed, but my enthusiasm is still the same. I keep
thinking that there is no better place to change the world than in a classroom. In the beginning I
wanted to become an elementary school teacher, and later I wanted to become an accounting teacher.
Now I want to become a Spanish teacher at the postsecondary level.
So why do I want to become a Spanish teacher? I love the idea of teaching something once and
knowing my students will be able to apply or share their information many times. For instance, if I
teach my students how to casually greet native Spanish speakers instead of using formal addresses that
are found in textbooks; the next time they go to a Mexican restaurant, they can speak to their server in
a friendlier manner. Even if this seems insignificant, the Mexican waiter will appreciate the effort and
the American will be better off than if they only established a monolingual conversation. Connecting

The Marketing Plan For Avon
History It all started out with an idea in 1886, an idea that allowed women become more self
effacement and successful. A book salesman named David H. McConnell, from New York created that
idea. The idea was to give women an opportunity to sell perfume to help them become financially
independent, this idea became a dream, a company named The California Perfume Company (CPC),
currently named Avon. Avon represents a company focused on providing the additional beauty and
complimentary beauty products throughout different parts of the world. Avon ushered in a new direct
selling approach, allowing the seller to bypass the middle man and gain extra income. During the first
100 years of operation, Avon adapted as the world evolved. Avon used ... Show more content on

Avon had a plan to invest a clothing line within department/ retail stores JCPenny and Sears, but those
efforts did not last. The partnership did not happen with Sears and only lasted 2 years with JCPenny,
with that being said, the company tripled their revenue from 1999 to $846 million in 2004. In 2010,
Brazil passed the U.S. to become the biggest market for Avon when looking at sales. Avon launched a
new information management system in Brazil and ended up losing sales because the program causes
missed orders and deliveries. Next I will discuss the CEO change and change in strategy Andrea Jung
resigned as the CEO in 2011, the next CEO Sheri McCoy was appointed in 2012. McCoy resume was
impressive, she worked at Johnson Johnson where they specialize in different beauty products. McCoy
planned to focus on three critical areas of the company: executing growth platforms, driving
simplification and efficiency, and improving organizational effectiveness (Dess, McNamara Eisner,
2016). McCoy believed technology was the key so she pushed to expand their current information
technology systems, which took an investment of about $200 million. McCoy kept direct selling as the
focus point for her changes and believed that marketing was the key to success. McCoy had to manage
an internal investigation that was based on illegal activity in 2009 and 2010, both years were before
McCoy was hired as the CEO. Mission

On the afternoon of July 13, 1992, Messrs. Jeffrey Geller and David DeRosa, derivatives portfolio
managers at BEAAssociates, were considering alternative ways of investing the assets of a new $100

Explaining Subjective Consciousness Essay
Explaining Subjective Consciousness
I often ask myself, why me. There are billions of brains on this planet alone, and no one knows how
many sentient beings exist in the galaxy, or in the entire universe. I share 99.8% of my DNA with
chimps (if I remember well), and even more with any human on the planet. Granted, there is no brain
that works _exactly_ like mine. But the differences seem trivial. Why must I be witness to the data
processing that occurs inside this particular brain? The problem has been obscured for a long time,
because no two people are exactly alike. Even identical twins end up with slightly different DNAs and
different environmental influences make them into very different people.
Everyone is different, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Duplicating your friend was fun, but let s suppose you now want to duplicate yourself. At the end of
the experiment, there would be two you s in the room. We will try to answer a few questions about
their identities and the relationships between the two. First, we would be tempted to ask, who s the
original, and who is the copy. We have already decided that an atomic copy leaves no room for
differences two atoms of a same element are perfectly identical. So how can it be possible that we still
see things from only one pair of eyes? If we agree that there can be no difference between the original
and the copy, then we must agree that seeing from only 2 of those resulting four eyes is suspicious.
Don t start the but they will be different people argument. It is not relevant here. In fact, to help you
get that out of the way, we have performed the experiment in a perfectly symmetrical room. Magnetic
fields, thermal fluctuations, the wallpaper... everything is identical down to the smallest detail. The
doors are locked.
The two people in the room (you and you) will continue to have the exact same inputs from all senses;
therefore, they will continue to be exact copies. It could be very difficult to

Lighting Technician Personal Statement
Throughout my degree I have always been sure that I wanted to pursue a career as a lighting
technician (or spark) in the film industry. I have always held an interest in this area of the industry as
my Brother Charlie Jenkins (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm5340410/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) is a
successful lighting technician and through him I was given some early insight into a career which for
me amalgamates creativity and a trade skill. I plan to go straight into the industry working as a
freelance lighting technician or lighting trainee using the contacts that I have made over the last
couple of years. Although generally Freelancers can expect to earn around £11,000 less than those in a
permanent position in the creative industries in the UK (Creative ... Show more content on

The First contact I made were as a result of my brother, who put me in contact with gaffer Aaron
Walters (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1094618/ ) who offered me paid work on the short film The
Hope Rooms (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4962566/?ref_=nm_flmg_cam_1 ). Aaron has since put me
in contact with Gaffer Paul Burns (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0122832/), who I have worked with
several times now since November 2015. Although I was lucky enough to get an introduction through
my brother, this type of informal approach is common in the film industry with 56% (Creative
Skillset, 2014) of employees working in the creative industry finding out about their most recent job
through informal recruitment methods. One aspect that makes becoming a Lighting Technician
attractive is that you can be expected to be paid for your work almost immediately. Lighting is heavily
unionized through BECTU and in my experience, most Gaffers will insist on their lighting team being
paid the recommended BECTU rates (2016) of £315 (Shooting Crew Feature), £276 (Rigging Crew
Feature) and £250 (Commercial which also covers music promos). The BECTU Recommended rates
are there to prevent Lighting Techs being underpaid for what is both one of the most dangerous and
physically demanding jobs in the film industry. It also prevents Lighting Technicians Undercutting
each others prices, which eventually

Native Americans Civil Rights Struggle Essay
The Native Americans have come across long journey of difficult times since the occupation of their
land by European settlers. There are still two sides of a coin a world of civilization and a world of
underdeveloped society in this one country USA. The paradox is that the constitution which seems to
be a model of democracy to many nations of the world lacks a lot for not acting accordingly. Those
organized and unorganized struggles of Native Americans were challenged by the heavily armed white
majority settlers. This history is among the worst American experience because of the massacre and
the violation against human right. In order to be heard, they protest, occupy land, and write books. The

The Alcatraz occupation lasted for nineteen months.
The Alcatraz opposition was followed by another major event in the struggle of native America s civil
right at Wounded Knee south Dakota. In 1972, they requested the government for land ownerships,
rights for their water and mineral recourses in their land, and for equality according to the constitution.
This was followed by the huge damage of the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA. In 1973, the government
came with denying the requests and then the leaders of American Indian movement AIM, promised to
keep struggling (Kent 1769). The leaders of the AIM were Russel Means and Denis Banks. There
were also some internal differences among the Indian American tribes. For instance Oglala Sioux
Tribe leaders were criticizing the oppositions. As a result, The AIM leaders were also critical to those
tribes and to the tribal president Richard Wilson. They blamed Wilson for his mismanagement of his
tribe s fund. Wilson had responded with serious attack on his opponents and their families. Hence, the
government supported Wilson and convinced as the leaders intended to size BIA on February 12,
19763 which was followed by 60 heavily armed marshals (Kent). As a result, on February 23, 250
people of Oglala tribe and AIM members agreed and broke on arm store to fight Wilson at Wounded
Knee.

  • 2. An Analysis Of Erhard Schon s The Vienna Woods And... When looking through the pages of history, without any doubt one will eventually find themselves reading the detailed recounts of crimes committed during War. When read from the perspective of those who experienced the events, we can feel their pain, desperation and helplessness. From those who enforced these ordeals onto others, we delve into their minds and see the world as they did; what drove their actions and how they felt. In this instance, two chosen documents can be analysed side by side in order to understand the savagery that is inflicted upon both parties during the expansion of Empire: Erhard Schön s illustrations that accompany the translated texts of the Turkish Riders with Christian Captives, Turkish Atrocities in the Vienna Woods and Siegfried Sassoon s poem Atrocities . Both pieces are a representation of different points of view during two different wars. However, though they may be separated by 500 years, both are easily able to relay the pain that is trust upon common everyday people who are involved in circumstances outside of their control. Born in Germany, Schön adopted Lutheranism during the 1520s and began designing woodcuts that would more often than not amuse, outrage or enlighten the public . In these two particular works of art, they depict how the Turkish soldiers [choked their] children and were murdering virgins and wives, cutting children in half and impaling them on pikes . This appeal to Ethos ultimately leads the reader to feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Romantic Literature In conclusion of her famous Letter to the Women of England, on the Injustice of Mental Subordination (1799), Mary Robinson listed in alphabetical order the names of over forty contemporary women writers who by the prevalent injustice and literary subordination were not or only partially recognized for their contributions to the British literary community of the romanticism era. The list contained the names of well known and relatively obscure women writers, poets, novelists, essayists and dramatists, including the likes of well known Mary Wollstonecraft, Ann Radcliffe, and the relatively unknown author of Biography, letters, c. Mrs. Thickness . In her closing assertion, she stated that there are men who affect, to think lightly of the literary productions of women: and yet no works of the present day are so universally read as theirs . This assertion resonates with Stephen C. Brehrendt s position on the fate and honor accorded to women writers, novelists, essayists, dramatists and particularly poets of the romanticism era, and the need to rewrite and remap the concept of influence, and the structuralism literary and cultural theory that tends to want to place women at the periphery of romantic poetry rather than the center where they truly belong in his article the New Romanticism for Old: Displacing Our Expectations and Our Models . In his article, he opined like Mary Robinson, that the activities and literary works of British women authors were as influential as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and... A Comparison of Blue Remembered Hills by Denis Potter and Hope and Glory produced by John Boorman There are many significant similarities and differences between the two extracts I have studied. A common similarity being the era they are set in; during the Second World War. Although the two pieces of drama are set in the same time period, they offer a great contrast in terms of their setting. Blue Remember Hills, set in 1943, is a naturalistic play situated in the countryside. Whereas Hope and Glory very much displays the effects of war in towns and cities, particularly the suburbs of London. In addition Blue Remember Hills follows the life of a gang of children who are played by adult actors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my research I incorporate the evacuation of children during the Second World War. During the Second World War many children were evacuated from the major towns and cities Main targets for bombing) into the countryside which was considered to be a safer place. At first many evacuees felt homesick and uncomfortable with their new surrounding but adapted quickly to the open fields and freedom of the countryside. Many received good homes where they were well cared for and provided with hearty meals. However this was not the case for all evacuees. A minority of the evacuees were taken advantage of and used for domestic help around the house and some were even abused. This applies to Donald Duck in Blue Remember Hills. However it is clearly evident in characters such as easy going Willie, that the countryside takes away the restrictions in the cities and provides an safe, open environment for a child imagination to wonder, provides a good contrast to this as the film shows the dangers that the children face in their everyday lives, even the games they play on things they collect refer to war. Various themes are used through out the pieces, some of which include bullying, war, death, childhood innocence gangs, bullying and the classification of gender. However Hope and Glory has the additional themes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Accomplishment of Gertrude B. Elion Elion accomplished a lot in her 81 years working. She started out teaching biochemistry at New York hospital school of nursing, and then she was an unpaid chemistry lab assistant. She stuck with this job, hoping to eventually get paid and even made $20 a week, which is one of the reasons she was able to attend New York University (Koenig, 2006). She scrimped and saved and had help from her boyfriend, Leonard Canter (McGrayne, 2002). While in school, she taught as a teacher in training as well as a substitute (Elion, 1988). At the same time she was doing research for her Master s at night and on the weekends to keep up. She eventually got a job doing analytical work for a food company. She did gain excellent instrumentation skills in this job even though she thought of it as quite boring. After this, Johnson and Johnson hired her, but that was short lived. Many people wanted to work with Elion, but she refused many job offers and agreed to work with George Hitchings at Burroughs Wellcome Company. IV: Scientific Contributions George Hitchings allowed Elion a lot more freedom. She was able to perform research at her own pace, which she loved because she was highly motivated to learn as much as possible, as fast as possible. She got involved with areas outside of chemistry, like immunology, pharmacology, and virology (McGrayne, 2002). Little was known about enzymes or nucleic acids at the time, so her main focus was on purines. Hitchings would always let Elion know that he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12 billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson, 2008; Alosco et al., 2015). In addition to the costs to healthcare systems, obesity undermines the productivity of employees, thereby undercutting corporate competitiveness. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2013), during the period between 2011 and 2012, 62.8 percent of Australians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gibbon Research Paper Gibbons eat a wide variety of foods. Their diet is comprised mostly of fruit, but also contains leaves, flowers and insects. Figs are the primary component of a gibbon s diet, making up about a quarter of what gibbons eat daily. Depending on the availability and scarcity of other foods however, figs can be up to fifty percent of their daily intake. Diet varies by season and availability. For example, during cooler seasons the availability of flowers is higher, and during hotter, wetter seasons fresh fruit is more abundant. Regardless of the changes in availability however, fruit always comprises at least fifty percent of a gibbon s diet. • 8. Torture At Abu-Ghraib The Torture at Abu Ghraib was a horrible event that took place around 2004 where prisoners were taken and dehumanized. A total of 3,800 of detainees were in the prison when the dehumanizing was taken place by making men of Islamic culture preform homosexual acts on each other. In addition to this, the guards of the prison would have these people completely nude and chain them to the doors of the cells with others around. When the military guards were prosecuted and brought to trial because of these horrendous acts bestowed on these prisoners most of them said that they were just following orders . Which, as bad as it sounds, could pose an explanation for what happened at the Abu Ghraib prison. More into this, a researcher by the name of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Impact of Globalization on Business and Management Education Impact of Globalization on Business and Management Education The business sector in India is highly promising in the present scenario. The impact of globalization has changed the business procedure in India in terms of psychology, methodology, technology, mindset work culture etc. Newer challenges, newer opportunities are day by day in front of Indian industries, which are profitable and prospective. The fundamental scope of doing business in India is lying with its people. The huge population of India has created a large unsaturated market of consumers. This is one of the reasons why global companies are very much interested in doing business in India. In the post globalization era this scope has increased immensely for global ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competitive forces are expected to take Indian industry out of inertia and place it on a dynamic growth path. In this context, it is important to know how far economic liberalization and globalization has succeeded in changing the market structure so as to allow more competitive free play. Market competition is in turn expected to influence the performance of industry positively. It is proposed to study changes in the market structure for different industries in terms of the number of units, size structure and ownership patterns in the 1990s as compared with the 1980s, using unit level data for the organized industry. This is to be followed up by a study of the performance of these units / industries in terms of efficiency and productivity. A related question to be examined is how the new economic environment has influenced the entry and exit of firms, their competitive strategies, and their pricing behavior. Reforms and the Corporate Sector The corporate sector constitutes a dominant part of industry. Financial sector reforms along with the development of the capital market are changing the structure of corporate financing. This has led to a separation of ownership and the management and has given rise to the issue of corporate governance, among others. Corporate governance essentially deals with the ways of governing the corporations so as to improve their financial performance. The need for governance arises mainly due ... • 12. Ragamuffin Gospel Reflection I have read 100% of the book in the past and 75% this time (some skimming). What I enjoy most/least about the text. This is the second time I have read The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (2005), and I still feel like it is a must read for any Christian. The first time I read this book I remember being awed by God s Grace for ragamuffins and how that relates to my interactions with people; when I showed God s grace, and when I did not. I still remember specific times when God reminded me how much he loved the broken and how I could be his hand outreached by being Jesus with skin on . I also remember specific times when I knew God was directing me to love on someone, and I for one reason or another, I did not. The first time I read Manning s book, I fell more in love with people because it helped get a glimpse of how much God loved a ragamuffin. Now that I am older and life has been harder, I read Manning s book in a different light. Unlike the first time, where I was reminded how much God loves others; this time it reminds me how much God loves me! Even though my faith has faltered, and I have had series of doubts and struggles with trust, God sill loves me. While reading the same words I did several years ago I am seeing things differently. What I learned. During the past year, I have been doing a great deal of stretching . I have sought out help to heal from past hurts and continue to look for ways to restore and grow. • 13. Impact Of Rearmament And Remilitarization Rearmament and Remilitarization Hitler s Path to Power The strongest military power in Europe. On April 2, 1936, this haunting description of the strength of Nazi Germany was made by Louis Maurin, the French Minister of War at the time (Deist). 18 years earlier, the allied powers had crippled German military strength, limited the size of her standing army to 100,000 men, prohibited the manufacturing of arms, and virtually liquidated the German Navy and Air Force after their defeat in World War I (Britannica). For years, Germany and her people suffered under devastating financial crises and debilitating terms stipulated in the Treaty of Versailles. As frustration and a hunger for change swept across the nation, a young and charismatic orator by the name of Adolf Hitler began to gather support in cities and beerhalls across the country (Kershaw). As his power grew, Hitler began to disregard regulations set into place by the Treaty of Versailles, testing Britain and France s will to intervene (Deist). By defying the military restrictions imposed on Germany by the Treaty of Versailles, Adolf Hitler solidified his position as the supreme ruler of Germany s Third Reich. During the 1920s and early 1930s, Hitler began encouraging the growth of the German war industry while also recruiting hundreds of thousands of Nazi Party members to join the ranks of his para military force, the Sturmabteilung (Robertson). • 14. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Essay Sudden cardiac arrest Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. When this happens blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. Arrhythmias can cause SCA. An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat and what causes an arrhythmia is when the electrical system that controls the rate and rhythm of the heart isn t functioning properly. During an arrhythmia the heart can beat too fast too slow or an irregular rhythm. Some arrhythmias can cause the heart to stop pumping blood to the body which causes SCA. Some people think that SCA is the same as a heart attack, but a heart attack happens if the blood flow to part of the heart muscle is blocked. During a heart attack the heart doesn t usually suddenly stopped beating, however SCA can happen after or during recovery from a heart attack. People who have heart disease are at a higher risk for SCA however it still possible for people who appear to be healthy and have no known heart disease to have SCA. • 15. Symbolism In Inside Out And Back Again By Thanhha Lai Symbolism is very prevalent in Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha Lai. A papaya, a doll and a chick, and an amethyst ring are included. These symbols show an ending and a beginning, home, and love. Symbolism is used throughout the story to develop themes and lessons. Topics can more easily understood through the use of symbolic items. In the story, the papaya is a major symbol. It represents the end to one life and the beginning to another. As Ha was growing up she would watch her papaya tree grow as she did. It would grow two times as tall as her on her tippy toes. Brother Vu chops;/ the head falls;/ a silver blade slices (Lai 60). Ha s family was fleeing South Vietnam to escape their war torn home which the Communists of the north were taking over. Brother Vu wanted to chop the tree down so the Communists could never enjoy the sweet fruit. The family left their home behind, and ended a chapter of their life. Life as they knew it was over. The Effects Of Prenatal Hormones On The Developing Fetus Why some people are attracted to members of their own sex whereas others are attracted to members of the opposite sex is no known cause or reason. There is belief to it possible contributing from genetics, hormonal and the environmental influences. One study stated that there is a 50 percent chance that if one identical twin is homosexual or bisexual, the other twin is too. Similar findings lead that some researchers estimate that sexual orientation is 30 to 70 percent genetic (Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002). Another research suggests that sexual orientation is impacted by a gene or genes found on the X chromosome. Though genetic tendencies for homosexuality may be passed from mothers to their children (Rahman Wilson, 2003). During human evolution, homosexuality was developed to minimize competition between males for a limited number of potential female mates (Schulling, 2004). A different possibility is that prenatal hormone levels influence the developing fetus (Levay, 2011). According to the prenatal hormonal theory of homosexuality, some male fetuses are exposed to too little testosterone. Similarly, some female fetuses are exposed to too much testosterone. These differences, in turn, can impact sexual orientation (Mustanski, Chivers, Bailey, 2002). Regardless, homosexuality is not caused by hormone imbalances in adulthood; the hormone levels of most gay men and lesbians are within the normal range (Banks Gartrell, 1995). Hormonal imbalances ... In the 1970s, it was a time period filled with equality fighting, freedom opportunity, change, and war. One interesting fact that I noticed in the 70s is that it is a continuation of the 60s. During this decade, women continued to fight for their equality and Americans joined the protest against the Vietnam War that was going on during this time. The 1970s was a time of great change. Some of these great changes had to deal with the fashion industries, technologies, and even transportation. Not only that, but in the 70s, types of music s changed and so did art. For example, there was an increase in Installation Art during this time period. Even though the 1970s had great changes that improved the world, it also had some of its downfalls. In the political area, Nixon, as a president during this time, caused destruction. In addition, during this decade, there were several assassination attempts on presidents and it was also the beginning on terrorists. It is important for people to learn details about past decades. • 37. Enduring Love In Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights: An Ever Lasting Love Emily Bronte takes romance to a darker side in her gothic novel Wuthering Heights. She develops a relationship between the characters and the setting which further reveal her central themes and conveys her idea. Bronte s work of art makes an attempt to argue that social class has the power to be a deciding factor in who one chooses to love. This is seen and conveyed through her characterization, the setting, and revealed through central themes. In Wuthering Heights complex characters are created to further emphasize how fatal attraction can lead to major conflicts. Bronte s gothic spin begins with Heathcliff s character who arrives to Wuthering Heights when Mr. Earnshaw returns from Liverpool. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is instantly recognized what the difference between the two settings is. Wuthering Heights is viewed in a darker light whereas Thrushcross Grange is bright and more inviting. After the incident Catherine is then ordered to stay at the Grange with the Linton s for a couple weeks. During this time, she transforms from a wild savage girl (Baba) into a lady. Heathcliff recalls Catherine s superb treatment at the Lintons, Afterwards, they dried and combed her beautiful hair, and gave her a pair of enormous slippers, and wheeled her to the fire; as merry as she could be (Bronte) Catherine s treatment contrasts the way Mr. Lockwood was greeted at Wuthering Heights. It is evident that the two manors are as different as the people in them. A transformation is made in Catherine s appearance and character when she marries Edgar and moves over to Grange where she experiences life being spoiled and pampered as she pleases. When she is welcomed back to the Heights Heathcliff greets her and in return is insulted when she laughs to find him dirty (55) Evidently, this supports that her transformation is not only physical but also spiritual for her comparison between them two. Also adding to the fact that the two manors are better understood as two different worlds. Even though Catherine grew up in Heathcliff s world, her move has caused her to change making their love impossible to pursue. Since then, she comes to spend more time with Edgar while cutting time to be with Heathcliff. She explains to Nelly her reasons for taking Edgars hand in marriage the ground under his feet, and the air over his head, and every thing he touches, and every word he says I love all his looks, and all his actions, and him entirely, and altogether (Bronte) It is undeniable that her love for Edgar is based off his prestige and not entirely for who he is. It is a natural part of social perception; it provides a mental shortcut in that it allows us to infer traits about a person based on the traits of others in the same category (Social Categorization). Applying the psychological idea of social categorization, Truman Capote uses the narrator to give an impression of Holly Golightly s character, in Breakfast at Tiffany s, to be translucent and careless, which illustrates her as achromatic, but in truth, those are the very characteristic that make her mysterious and vibrant. She says I m in New York because I ve never been to New York. I say get your ass on a plane and get back here, she says I don t want it. I say what s your angle, doll? She says you got to want it to be good and I don t want it (Capote; 26).
