An Analysis Of Andrew Lloyd Webber s An Broadway...
In addition to non profit, and independent producers, DTP can also be compared to other corporate
theatre producers. However, before this comparison is made it must be noted that currently DTP is the
only major Broadway producer that is a part of a publicly traded company. Andrew Lloyd Webber s
Really Useful Group was public between 1986 and 1990, but private since 1990 (Hunter). The other
notable public theatrical producer was Livent, a Canadian company founded in 1990 by Garth
Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb that went public in 1993. The company faltered and was sold in 1998.
After the sale it was discovered that Drabinsky and Gottlieb committed fraud by falsifying the
company s books ( What was Livent Inc.?). In 2009 both men were convicted of fraud. With the
demise of Livent, and the fact that Really Useful Group is no longer a publicly traded company,
Disney Theatrical Productions is currently the only Broadway production company that is publicly
traded. Though private, DTP does have some similarities with other corporate production companies,
an example of which is the Nederlander Organization. Founded in 1912 by David T. Nederlander, the
Nederlander Organization is one of the largest privately held entertainment companies in the world.
The company is currently run by the Nederlander family; James M. Nederlander is currently the
chairman and James L. Nederlander is currently the company s president. The Nederlander

Examples Of Damsel In Distress

CHAPTER I: TYPES OF REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN VIDEO GAMES
1.1. Damsel in distress One of the most widely used clichés in video games is Damsel in distress. The
word comes from French demoiselle, which means young lady . Demoiselle en detresse translates into
damsel in distress . As a trope the damsel in distress is a plot device in which a female character is
placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own and must be rescued by a male
character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the protagonist s quest.
First known example of the Damsel in distress can be seen in the myth about Perseus and his wife
Andromeda, who is chained naked to a rock by the sea as a sacrifice, and is then ... Show more content

The protagonist Booker DeWitt, is sent there to find a young lady called Elizabeth, who has been held
captive by her father Zachary Comstock in a tower for most of her life. The scenario sounds to be the
classic example of Damsel in distress, but when Booker reaches the tower, he realizes that she is not
so gentle, helpless and defenseless as he thinks. She is unlike any character that I have seen in a game,
especially when you play through the entire thing and you see how she evolves. DeWitt manages to
rescue Elizabeth and they both get involved in the city s conflict, during which she shows her strange,
but strong superpowers. Her character is well rounded. Her backstory is interesting and complex. Her
flaws and the way she expresses emotions makes her more real and human. She s resourceful and
quick witted, with the ability to break codes and pick locks like they re nothing (being locked in a
tower with nothing but books means she s got a lot of hobbies). Elizabeth has no experience with
shooting and fighting, but she effectively helps Booker. She looks for ammunition and health kits and
provides them to the main character. Her participation plays a vital role during battles. Elizabeth even
saves Booker life few times. That time Elizabeth gave him CRP on the beach when he almost
drowned, or that time she caught him with a blimp to save him from falling off the city, or that time
she gave herself up to Songbird to save his life. Elizabeth is essential to succeed. There is also no
sexual undertone in her relationship with Booker. Creative director of Irrational Games, said that In
terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking
about Elizabeth s chest than I have, he said. It s something I ve barely thought about. Levine said it
becomes disappointing for him when Elizabeth s measurements become the topic of conversation,

Lineage-Based Perspective
With there being more than 50,000 species of vertebrates alone it is essential for all biology majors to
have a working knowledge of the tree of life. The two perspectives for teaching zoology are the
Linnean taxonomical and the Phylogenetic clade based perspective. The Linnean taxonomical
perspective is a rank based hierarchy while the phylogenetic clade based perspective groups species
by focusing a common ancestor and its descendants. In regards to teaching zoology there is more
value in using the phylogenetic clade based perspective rather than the Linnean perspective because it
allows students to organize the details of biodiversity with a more rational system.
Phylogenetic taxonomy focuses on common ancestry and derived functional ... Show more content on

For example; Coleoptera contains over three hundred thousand species while Primate contains roughly
four hundred species including the human (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene).
This lack of criteria is what causes the exclusion of taxonomic acknowledgment of major evolutionary
innovations while inaccurately portraying history. It is also mentioned in Greene s more recent journal
that the Linnean method fails at specifying clades based upon the origin of limbs in tetrapods and
shelled egg amniotes. While it also, obscures the fact that crocodilians are more closely related to
birds than they are to turtles, lizards, and snakes, which does not highlight many dramatic similarities
between earlier archosaurs (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene). These two main concerns of
omission and obscuration are why the phylogenetic clade based system is a far more valuable and
beneficial methodology for teaching zoology.
As it was mentioned previously, the phylogenetic clade based perspective only recognizes
monophyletic taxa, which are those taxa derived from a common ancestor not shared with any other
group. There is another argument being made that paraphyletic groups should not be included as units
of study within a zoology course. Paraphyletic and monophyletic units of study both have their
benefits and drawbacks however I believe that

The Use of Hesse Siddhartha to Reflect the Legendary...
The Use of Hesse Siddhartha to Reflect the Legendary Atmosphere of Buddha
Siddhartha is one of the names of the historical Gautama, and the life of Hesse s character resembles
that of his historical counterpart to some extent. Siddhartha is by no means a fictional life of Buddha,
but it does contain numerous references to Buddha s philosophies and his teachings. Although Hesse s
Siddhartha is not intended to portray the life of Gautama the Buddha but he used the name and many
other attributed to reflect the legendary atmosphere and the pattern of his heroes transformation.

The fourth truth is to be brought into being, the truth of the eightfold ariya path leading to the
cessation of suffering. (Robinson)
The first two steps in the Eightfold Path, which leads to the cessation of suffering, are right
understanding and right resolution; a person must first discover and experience the correctness of the
Four Noble Truths, and then resolve to follow the correct path. The next three steps form a kind of
unit: right speech, right behavior, and right livelihood. These reflect the external aspects of a person s
life, which must not be neglected. The interior disciplines constitute the final three steps: right efforts,
right mindfulness, and right contemplation. By this means, the follower of Buddha can arrive at
Nirvana. (Robinson)
Buddhists do not believe in transcendent or any other type of god or gods, the need for a personal
savior, the power of prayer, eternal life in heaven or hell after death as many of the western religions
do. They do believe in reincarnation: the concept that one must go through many cycles of birth, living
and death. After many of these cycles, if a person releases their attachment to desire and the self they
can then attain Nirvana. The teachings of Buddhism effectively deal with the question of human
beings very existence and pursue the surest way toward establishing a secure basis for living. It is a
practical system, which provides a means to realize a state of self perfection. (Field)

Analysis on Atheism
To be honest with you I think some of McCloskey questions of the existence of God are based and as
a Christian I know I have questioned the existence of God at one point in my life. I had to really learn
the hard way. From the article one can see that McCloskey is trying very hard to dismiss every claim
of the theistic view. From the videos on blackboard, when someone decides to prove something or
someone, then that means there is certainty and assurance that thing is absolutely true. The truth of the
matter is that we cannot prove one hundred percent of the existence of God and that is why an Atheist
like McCloskey would say that without evidence then there is no God. McCloskey try s his best to
scientifically prove that the creation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that every argument is defeasible. I think that the reason that McCloskey is saying this is
because he is arguing the God of the bible and not the minimalistic ideal of God. Everyone is entitled
to believe what he or she wants to believe, he saying that the cosmological argument, does not entitle
us to an all powerful and all perfect God but that still does not disvalue the rational of there being a
God in the first place and I believe that makes his statement meaningless in disproving the necessity
and presence of God.
When it comes to the teleological argument, McCloskey also claims that the teleological argument
lacks premises due to similar reasons as the cosmological argument. In short both arguments do not
prove God as a designer. In his mind, this argument is faulty because it does not show enough
evidence for the existence of God. What he means when he argues for a genuine indisputable example
of design of the universe is that he desired to see obvious proof for the existence of God. He disagrees
with the fact that it is impossible to proof something with one hundred evidence. In Evans and Manis,
when they talk about some noticeable evidences that prove the existence of God in Philosophy of
religion, they said that the way in which nature and the universe is organized and structured there must

Crime In Victorian London
Ethnicity and Perception of Criminality in Victorian London
Victorian London at the time of Jack the Ripper s activity in 1881 contained several neighborhoods
that were considered hotbeds of crime specifically London s East End. This included Whitechapel, the
site of Jack the Ripper s murders. What is interesting about these neighborhoods is their high rate of
immigrants, from Jews to the Irish. These foreigners contributed to a perception of these
neighborhoods as crime ridden slums, ghettos where no self respecting Englishman or woman would
find themselves. In this paper, I would like to more thoroughly examine the role ethnicity had in the
perception of these poor neighborhoods, and how ethnicity played into the question of crime in

They also largely lived in the immigrant heavy slums of London.. After pogroms in the late nineteenth
century Russian Empire, large numbers of Jews moved westward to escape persecution, with one of
the largest waves occurring in 1882. This influx led some British people and the British press to
accuse the Jews of swamping the city, overwhelming its charitable organizations and spreading
communicable diseases such as influenza. This attitude reflects the common racist attitude that non
Anglo people were somehow dirty, and stole services from the British the rightful users of public
assistance. In some newspapers, like the Pall Mall Gazette, this immigration was described as an
invasion of Russian Jews, emphasis mine. Unlike the Irish, however, the Jewish immigrants residing
in London and England as a whole were accused of bankrolling the government in order to hide their
numerous crimes; this was claimed by the British Brother s League, a quasi fascist group that
organized against immigrants. This put them in a position of imagined power, something that the Irish
did not have in the popular British imagination. This was possibly due to the fact that Jewish
immigrants largely occupied skill based work they practiced in their home countries once they arrived
in London, leading them to amass more money than the Irish, who remained in low skilled, low
paying jobs. In fact, the Daily News ran a feature on the

The Paperwork Reduction Act Of 1980
The Paperwork Reduction Act is a federal law of the United States of America that was designed to
help reduce the burden of the amount of paperwork given to businesses and private individuals by the
federal government. The Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, Pub. L. No. 96 511, 94 Stat. 2812 (Dec.
11, 1980), codified in part at Subchapter I of Chapter 35 of Title 44 of the United States Code, 44
U.S.C. § 3501 through 44 U.S.C. § 3521, is a United States federal law enacted in 1980 that gave
authority over the collection of certain information to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Within the OMB, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) was established with
specific authority to regulate matters regarding federal information and to establish information
policies. These information policies were intended to reduce the total amount of paperwork handled
by the United States government and the general public. This act established the Office of Information
and Regulatory Affairs within the Office of Management and Budget. It also creates procedural
requirements for federal agencies that intend to give the public a recordkeeping or reporting
requirement. For example, a federal agency would be required to inform the public on the value or
importance of each field on a form. This act also states that all federal agencies must receive approval
form the Office of Management and Budget before release any media or forms to be used in the

Philip Condit and the Boeing 777
Philip Condit and the Development of the 777
Daniel W. Sobel
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
Abstract
This paper of Philip Condit and the Development of the 777; describes the management, and
technological changes that Philip Condit made to the development style of the Boeing Company.
Before Philip Condit took over the 777 program, Boeing had been making airplanes in the same
fashion as it had been doing for 70 years prior. Mr. Condit saw the chance to bring Boeing into the
21st century not only with the new technology of computer aided drafting, but with modern
management techniques as well. The 777 program proved to be the perfect testing ground for a
companywide change in the way Boeing did its business.

Having the Government subsidize Airbus s development phase gave Airbus company a great
advantage (Lawrence, 2008). Airbus at the time also had the advantage in terms of technology. The fly
by wire technology had been in use for some time in the Airbus A320. The two new models; A330 and
A340; also used this technology. Boeing had yet to produce a fly by wire system (Richards, 1990).
The industry environment was also in Boeings favor at the time. Boeing had a history of dedicated
customers. The company had been making commercially successful jet aircraft since it first developed
the 707 . Boeing was so successful at manufacturing the jet aircraft, that it was one of two companies
left making them. This advantage gave them the ability to be a powerful supplier. The expense of the
development process also made it extremely difficult for new companies to even enter the market.
Boeing faced only one competitor at this point; Airbus (Pearce, Robinson, 2003). This was where
Philip Condit stepped in. He had been an engineer with Boeing since 1965; and assisted in the design
of the 707, 727, 737, 747, and 757. He understood how the company operated. One of the first things
he changed was how the aircraft was to be physically designed. Previously, the engineers would
design a wing on paper, build it out of wood or foam, and then add it to a mockup of the aircraft. The
people designing the fuel tanks would then add in their

Immigration Policy Institute ( Mpi ) Immigration
Chapter 1: Introduction
Background and Justification According to Migration Policy Institute(MPI) immigration is a
prominent part of the United States DNA. Among different immigrant groups in the United States it is
highly uneven, and the size of the unauthorized population continues to be a powerful barrier to social
cohesion, full social economic, and political integration. (Jimenez, 2016)
The Research Problem Concerns still exist about immigrants ability to integrate into broader society.
Americans feel as if they have to adjust to the different ethnicity because their language can take over
their country and they can maybe lose their jobs from the illegal immigration that is happening in the
United States. Also, the fear of our citizens are that any immigrant that illegally come over to the
United States; can be a dangerous terrorist or even a criminal felon. What the U.S. Americans want is
the illegal immigration to stop and have the immigrants come over and learn English and take the test
and get their citizenship the right way. (Jimenez, 2016)
Deficiencies in the Evidence There is no deficiencies in the research. The researcher had no lack of
evidence to support the research on illegal immigration.

The audience are the people of the United States that is affected who are Americans and naturalized
citizens. People in other countries that deal with immigration in their country are also affected. The

Designing A Computer Controlled Machine
Robots, like any computer controlled machine, can be programmed in their movements. But the
production of control data in the form of coded machine instructions requires programming skills as
well as an understanding of robotics concepts such as kinematics, which lie outside most architects
domain of expertise. To address this problem, the custom robot programming library YOUR, which
aims at making robot control intuitively accessible to students, has been implemented. Based on this, a
toolkit of visual programming components for GrasshopperTM, allowing students to directly assemble
graphical components for the control of their robotic fabrication sequences, was developed. The
technologies for controlling robot arms are especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robotic fabrication and computational design augment each other in several ways. In addition to the
direct materialization of digitally conceived designs, the physical working model provides students
with a differentiated and sensual feedback on their design, whereby they can immediately engage with
its constructive and structural aspects. As part of an iterative process, these insights can then be re
integrated into the computational design strategy.
Architectural design practice will be increasingly mediated by digital technology in the future. Digital
fabrication technology allows architects to conceive designs both digitally and physically, and may
empower them to take a more active role in the materialization and construction process.
Nested voids
The robotic fabrication process is based on the integration of non standard element prefabrication and
robotic assembly. The model s walls and floors are laser cut out of cardboard sheets, which are placed
on a custom designed feeder system (left). From there the robot picks the elements (centre), applies
glue and places them directly on the model (right).
Mesh towers
For the final tower model, foam blocks are placed on a specially designed feeder. The robot cuts each
of them differently, optimised to transfer the loads and shaped to accommodate various functions. This

The Pros And Cons Of Indian Atomic Bombs
Not long after May 11, 1998 at Pokhran, a betray site in the Indian province of Rajasthan, gatherings
of neighborhood Bishnoi herders whose traditions prohibit murdering creatures or cutting trees heard a
gigantic blast, and viewed in astonishment as a colossal clean cloud coasted in the sky. What the
Indian ranchers did not understand, but rather the representatives in Washington and around the globe
soon got a handle on, was the way that India had quite recently joined the United States, Russia,
England, France and China as the most up to date individual from the atomic club. On that warm May
evening, Indian atomic researchers effectively detonated three nuclear gadgets adding up to around six
times the ruinous energy of the American bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. The following day, as
the world endeavored to retain the alarming news, India touched off two more atomic blasts.
Indeed, even as 90% of Indians acclaimed then Prime Minister Vajpayee s choice to go atomic, at that
point U.S. President Clinton quickly responded to the blasts with stun and reprimanded India s atomic

This essay is about the Duke Vincentio in Measure for...
The character of the Duke is portrayed by Shakespeare as a very complex, hypocritical and
contradictory character. To many critics, he is conveyed as a Machiavellian Prince, using others for his
own political ends, and to some critics, a God like figure, testing the pathology of power in Vienna.
Despite these two polar opposites the character is nethertheless a character of ambivalence.
Contradiction is one of the main themes of the play, as is appearance versus reality, law versus grace
and justice versus mercy. The Duke never lets go of the puppet strings, pulling events and
manipulating other characters in the play. Vincentio s motives for influencing the events are
controversial; it has been argued that the Duke enjoys watching others ... Show more content on

Angelo doesn t want to be married and neither does Lucio. Therefore the Duke uses marriage as a
punishment instead of death. He commands Angelo with the imperative look that you love your wife
and tells the provost to proclaim it? around the city that any woman disvalued by Lucio should come
forward.
In marrying both Lucio and Angelo, he is committing them to a life of misery, far worse than being
executed, and also humiliating and disgracing them. Neither of the marriages are likely to last long,
and justice is only done for Mariana in terms of law, not in terms of love. Mariana is given what she
wants, but the marriage will inevitably fail. Kate Keepdown is also done justice in terms of law, but
may not want to be married, as she will no longer be able to continue being a prostitute.
Also, this is not really fair for Lucio, no one else had been charged for fornication with a prostitute,
and the only reason Lucio is being judged so severely is because he slandered the Duke.
Lucio called the Duke a very superficial, ignorant, unweighing fellow and also told the Friar that his
[the Duke] use was, to put a ducat in her clack dish... he would be drunk too . This creates dramatic
irony as the Duke is actually the Friar in disguise. A ducat in her clack dish is a euphemism for being
with prostitutes. The Duke s response to this is shown in his monologue in Act 3.2.

narrative throughout the entirety of the novel is through the perspective of Hang as she recollects

switches back and forth between stories throughout the novel. This revolving of stories mimics a
human s natural train of thought in the way that it is like she is lost in thought and then regains
consciousness to the present for a short while. This narrative technique makes the first person point of

to attend graduate school in the fall of 2002. Geralyn was found by her husband inside their home. She
had been raped, brutally beaten, and stabbed to death. Their home was located on Louisiana Highway
1, which is the main road Derrick Todd Lee used to travele to and from work at the Dow Chemical
Plant in Brushly, Louisiana. Geralyn s husband was the lead suspect in her murder before DNA
evidence was linked to Lee. Derrick Lee Todd was tried for the murder of DeSoto. He was handed a
conviction for second degree murder due to the fact that DeSoto was not sexually assaulted. The
prosecutor feared that Lee would have been acquitted if they had tried him for first degree murder.
Charlotte Murray Pace was murdered right before she was to become the youngest student in LSU

Asthma Respiratory Disease
Asthma is a respiratory disease that inflames and narrows the airways making it difficult for one to
breathe. (National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, 2013). Symptoms of asthma are wheezing, chest
tightness, shortness of breath and coughing. The airways narrow due to the inflammation and it makes
it difficult for the flow of oxygen to pass through the respiratory system. Patent airway flow is a very
crucial part to maintaining adequate blood flow through put the body and is vital for life. Thus, asthma
is a severe disease because it has no cure. Some symptoms of asthma are preventable and although it
is up to the individual to take control of the issue some environmental factors may inhibit this process.
The two main causes of asthma are

Coming Of Age In Mississippi Rhetorical Analysis
In the excerpt of Anne Moody s Memoir, Coming of Age in Mississippi, she uses logos and ethos to
strengthen her credibility of what happened at the Woolworth s sit in. First, she is very good at
recalling the exact times that events occurred on the day of the sit in. For example, she notes that at
exactly 11:00 AM, Pearlena, Memphis, and herself enter the back entrance of Woolworth s. From
there, they browsed the store and planned to meet back and start the sit in. Moody says, Pearlena had
given Memphis her watch. He was to let us know when it was 11:14. At 11:14 we were to join him
near the lunch counter and at exactly 11:15 we were to take our seats. This shows how the sit in was
heavily planned. They were all dispersed to avoid attention, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is important that the details are objective, as she never tells her feelings on the sit in event until later
in the memoir. All the facts remain to the point and never show a sign of bias, it is simply what
happened. For example, Moody cleverly inserts the detail of a woman who leaves the lunch counter.
Moody writes, A middle aged white woman who had not yet been served rose from her seat and came
over to us. I d like to stay here with you, she said, but my husband is waiting. The husband didn t
show any importance before, so she clearly made an excuse so she could clearly avoid the violence
that would surely ensue. She is questioned by a newsman, to which she never revealed her name, but
she stated that she did feel empathy for black people and their movement. This was crucial to keep in,
as while it actually did happen, it serves as a foreshadow to the horrific scene that would soon occur.
Leading up to the violent attack, Moody recalls a horrific sight. She writes, The rest of the seats except
the three we were occupying had been roped off to prevent others from sitting down. A couple of the
boys took one end of the rope and made it into a hangman s noose. Several attempts were made to put
it around our necks. This is a sign where the students try to symbolize white dominance, by
threatening to lynch Moody and the others. The crowd was filled with so much hate, to the

Elements Of A Business Plan
elements of a business plan and agree that regardless of the size or stage of development, companies
use a business plan to improve their internal operations as well as to describe or market the business to
outside investors (Becherer, R. C., Helms, M. M. 2009. p.82). As someone wanting to open up a
business this can be the key element as to who will be willing to invest in my business one day. In
order to have a successful business opening and get the funds needed to ensure a business can operate
on daily one has to be able to show how and why they need money. A business starts off as just an idea
that one has, but once one can put their idea into action they can potentially turn it into a well thought

Visiting Phantom Bodies
Art 1010 Art Appreciation
Visiting Phantom Bodies at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (919 Broadway) was one of the most
thrilling experiences I have experienced in the recent past. The exhibition provided me with an
excellent opportunity to view countless works of art by a wide range of artists, an opportunity I
treasure especially because I got to learn a lot from the different works of art available at the center.
Phantom Bodies essentially refers to works of art that take a provocative approach in addressing
themes such as loss, trauma, and transformation, and which aim to demonstrate the possibility that an
animating spirit could potentially exist independently of the body (Frist Center for the Visual Arts
2015). I was most fascinated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the work engages the mind in a lot and this happens because of the powerful impact of
color and texture, which serves to demonstrate emphasis and variety, which also occurs because the
artist has combined them in a perfectly symmetrical manner (John F. Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts 2014). The thoughts relating to the body are powerful to the reader, and they serve to
remind the audience that death is inevitable and that we all have to face it as some point in our lives.
Therefore, the principles of texture and color trigger remembrance especially because of the numerous
repetitions that help to create balance, unity, harmony, and symmetry (Sayre 2012).
I find this painting to be quite appealing because it evokes many thoughts and emotions relating to the
mind, body, and the soul. More importantly, I find it very appealing because of its stunning beauty,
which mainly happens because the artist has focused a lot on achieving harmony, unity, balance, and
symmetry, all of which are critical in ensuring excellent art work. The use of butterflies helps to
enhance its appeal. Similarly, the use of different colors and different sizes of butterflies contributes a
lot in creating some form of texture and form that is appealing to the

The Death Of An Athlete Dying Young
Housman s To An Athlete Dying Young
A. E. Housman s To an Athlete Dying Young, also known as Lyric XIX in A
Shropshire Lad, holds as its main theme the premature death of a young athlete as told from the point
of view of a friend serving as pall bearer. The poem reveals the concept that those dying at the peak of
their glory or youth are really quite lucky. The first few readings of To an Athlete Dying Young
provides the reader with an understanding of Housman s view of death.
Additional readings reveal Housman s attempt to convey the classical idea that youth, beauty, and
glory can be preserved only in death.
A line by line analysis helps to determine the purpose of the poem. The first stanza of the poem tells of
the athlete s triumph and his glory filled parade through the town in which the crowd loves and cheers
for him. As Bobby
Joe Leggett defines at this point, the athlete is carried of the shoulders of his friends after a winning
race (54). In Housman s words:
The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder high. (Housman 967).
Stanza two describes a much more somber procession. The athlete is being carried to his grave. In
Leggett s opinion, The parallels between this procession and the former triumph are carefully drawn
(54). The reader should see that
Housman makes another reference to shoulders as an allusion to connect the

Summary Of Slavery In Toni Morrison s Beloved
In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, the social, personal, and political cruelty of American slavery
is the central factor driving the story. The method of cruelty most prominent in Beloved is the
belittling of slaves at the hands of those with privileged identities, which ultimately reveals that the
victims in the novel are each on their own personal quests to reclaim their own identities. Within the
novel, Morrison utilizes animalistic language that contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole;
that one s identity can be destroyed when victim to a form of cruelty known as dehumanization. One
of the most notable moments in which Morrison uses language related to animals to describe a scene
of abuse and powerlessness occurs when Sethe partakes in a sexual act with the tomb engraver as an
alternative method of payment. The narrator describes the situation once saying [Sethe] thought it
would be enough, rutting among headstones with the engraver, his young son looking on, the anger in
his face so old; the appetite in it quite new (5). A key aspect to this graphic scene is the nature of the
son and his father who both contribute to the cruel dehumanization of Sethe. Morrison creates a sense
of spectatorship, as if Sethe was just an object to peer at, by describing the son as looking on.
Furthermore, the engravers apparent anger and appetite immediately invoke a dynamic of a predator
seeking out its prey as those two words indicate an animalistic, instinctual

Preservation Digital Art Analysis
Preservation The Preservation is a digital art piece that demonstrates several different meanings. This
piece invokes fear and discomfort by exhibiting how oil, gas and chemical industries are destroying
the earth and humanity with pollution and toxin. The artist uses two arms to represent the way of life.
One side presents a beautiful, pure, and an unharmed world, and the other shows darkness, death, the
destruction of earth, and how it is taking over. This piece of art is aimed towards the oil, gas and
chemical industries. The Preservation is on the Deviantart.com, created by (Shortcircuit123), also

Also, how it displays the overpowering of death, destruction, and darkness. This piece of digital art
can be compared to a similar painting on Italianrenaissance.org, The Creation of Adam, a painting in
the Sistine Chapel created by Michelangelo in 1512. In this work, God s right arm is outstretched to
reveal the spark of life from his own finger into that of Adam, whose left arm is extended in a position
reflecting God s, a reminder that man is formed in the reflection and resemblance of God. Another
point is that Adam s finger and God s finger are not touching. It gives the sense that God, the provider
of life, is extending out to Adam who has yet to accept it. In the preservation piece the two arms
represent humanity, and the left arm is covered with earth and all living creations of God. The right
arm is covered by a world full of fire, burning from the inside out. Another point is the left side has
blue skies showing a sign tranquility, relaxation, and peace, with white clouds. The color white is to
represent Innocence and purity. While the right has, black smoke filled clouds coming from a refinery
created by man, black shows to absorb all aspects of light and signify power, and fear. Looking at the
two hands with the fingers extended out the right hand shows the pointer finger soaked and dripping

Analysis of the Character of Shrek and Lord Farquaad from movie Shrek
In this essay I will analyse the characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad and tell you about how the
filmmakers use different presentational devices to create an unusual fairy tale.
In traditional fairy tales the princess is normally a perfect, kind, beautiful person. In a traditional fairy
tale the princess is trapped in the tallest tower of a castle guarded by a terrifying beast.
A handsome prince always rescues them, for instance in Snow White and the seven dwarfs the prince
who rescues her gives her the kiss of life, which is supposed to make the story romantic. Ogres in
traditional fairy tales live in filthy swamplands; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Donkey tries to become friends with Shrek by coming into his house and bouncing on his bed saying
they can stay up late swapping stories but Shrek doesn t want to be friends with Donkey. Shrek kicks
Donkey outside and Donkey keeps popping his head up in the window which annoys Shrek.
There are three blind mice who tease Shrek by talking about the smell of cheese when they are near
Shreks ears this is funny because the mice are blind but still manage to offend the ogre.
ELLIOT COOPER BRINE HOWE
Donkey and Shrek visit Duloc, to try to reclaim Shreks swamp from Lord Farquaad. Donkey thinks
that Shrek is too kind and should not have to ask for his swamp to be returned to him. Donkey tells
Shrek to kick out the fairy tale creatures with force from
his swamp if he needs to. Shrek offers to solve the dispute over a pint, which shows Shrek is trying to
settle the dispute without using violence.
When Shrek breaks into the castle to rescue Princess Fiona, he acts like an ogre when he greets the
princess and shakes her to wake her up

The number of these community controlled organisations in comparison to Government organisations
is far more limited. Then finally, there are community controlled organisations that specifically cater
for the health and welfare needs of Indigenous Australian women, which are so limited that out of a
list of 53 Indigenous community based health services in New South Wales only one of these services
was specifically for Indigenous Australian women.
Waminda is a women s health and welfare Aboriginal corporation on the south coast of New South
Wales, in the area of Shoalhaven. Shoalhaven is a community with an Indigenous Australian
population of 6.2% (ABS, 2010). However, with this high density of Indigenous population means
there are also high levels of morbidity from chronic disease, premature mortality and low levels of
private health insurance (Health, Illawara Shoalhaven Local Health District, 2012). Waminda provides
a free service where they aim to empower and support Aboriginal women in making their own health
decisions and reduce the high rate of ill health among Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander women in the
Shoalhaven community (Waminda, n.d). As a very family orientated population 71% of Indigenous
Australian women in the community have had children illustrating the need of a

Time In The Great Gatsby
The concept of time is mentioned in The Great Gatsby at least 450 times, through character names,
nouns, and occurrences. Time being such a heavily focused on subject in the novel shows how focused
F. Scott Fitzgerald was on showing the positives and negatives of making time an important aspect of
how life is perceived and lived. Fitzgerald s outlook on time is one of longing and regret, portrayed in
Gatsby s persona, actions, and hopefulness.
Gatsby is born a poor man with not much to show for himself in his early life, until he meets a rich
young lady who flips his world upside down. Daisy shows Gatsby her love built on broken promises
as she promises to marry him once he comes home from Oxford but ends up marrying Tom Buchanan
before Gatsby can be home to stop the wedding. Once Gatsby realizes this as he returns home, he
shapes his life around doing nothing but creating a world that would bring Daisy back into his arms
just like their younger days. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is insinuated that Gatsby did not make his money in the most ethical way when Tom shares that he
found what your drug stores were and explains that Gatsby and Wolfsheim purchased side street drug
stores and sold alcohol over the counter, which was illegal at the time (Fitzgerald 100). Gatsby covers
this scheme up with talk of inheriting his money from old family, but is not very consistent in his lies,
as Nick notices him use several different answers at separate times. I think he hardly knew what he
was saying when I asked him what business he was in he answered, That s my affair before he realized
that it wasn t the appropriate reply (Fitzgerald 103). While Gatsby may have been successful in his
illegal money affairs, this does not mean his efforts were not wasted on someone unworthy of the time
and money

Joseph Conrad Imperialism
Modern Imperialism Alexander Spirovski LITR 211 Professor David Auchter American Public
University Heart of Darkness is a novella written by Joseph Conrad based on his six month stay in
Congo, Africa which is considered a significant tome for its depiction of Imperialism. Imperialism is
defined as a policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over other
areas of the world. (Merriam Webster Dictionary) In it Conrad depicts the treatment of the local

According to BBC.com, fighting amongst these groups is ultimately for command of mineral and
other resources which Europeans previously controlled. Apparently the citizens there have not learned
anything from their prior overlords except the repetition of imperialistic behavior. Perhaps it is even
worse as Europeans did not seem interested in ethnic cleansing. I think Congo might possibly be a lost
cause as it is virtually impossible for them to create a new vision and model for themselves as long as
they fight amongst themselves. This setting perfectly describes a modern tragedy since they are
unwilling to unite in order to create an optimal society for themselves especially given that no other
countries are strongly interested or willing enough to lend meaningful assistance which would allow

The Criminalization Of Prostitution And Sex Work
In a cozy, first world country, the realm of crime, abuse, and drug use, seems like it is worlds away,
when in reality, these horrific acts occur in our own backyard. But to a prostitute, it s their entire
world, being forced to work in the grit and grime of the streets, and to make a dangerous living in the
underground. The criminalization of prostitution and sex work is flawed at its very core men and
women shouldn t have to lower their standards of living in order to exercise their rights to both their
body and work.
Unfortunately, there s a disconnect between these sex workers and those outside their world, and
people often mistakenly tie prostitution to feeding horrific crimes, such as human trafficking rings,
rape, and murder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But of course, Amnesty International, a well known human rights non profit organization, says
otherwise with a recent development: a request for the decriminalization and legalization of
prostitution, the vote passing mid August of last year ( Global Movement Votes to Adopt Policy to
Protect Human Rights of Sex Workers ). Amnesty International s vote is all inclusive, aiming to do all
they can to better the lives of sex workers. The organization actively worked with current and former
sex workers in the formation of their policy regarding sex work, and hope to have their model
accepted globally.
Other abolitionists of prostitution seem to think that sex work fuels the demand for commercial sex,
which is the indisputable driving force behind the sex trafficking industry (McCain) despite evidence
that points the opposite of such a relationship, and goes against basic economic principles
criminalizing prostitution will only result in it being driven underground, and raising the stakes of
competitive trafficking rings (Ahmed). With regulation, easy access, and availability, there would be
less of a reason for johns, or clients, to get an escort through the underground, and would result in the
sex trafficking industry having a surplus of victims as demand decreases. And while

  • 2. An Analysis Of Andrew Lloyd Webber s An Broadway... In addition to non profit, and independent producers, DTP can also be compared to other corporate theatre producers. However, before this comparison is made it must be noted that currently DTP is the only major Broadway producer that is a part of a publicly traded company. Andrew Lloyd Webber s Really Useful Group was public between 1986 and 1990, but private since 1990 (Hunter). The other notable public theatrical producer was Livent, a Canadian company founded in 1990 by Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb that went public in 1993. The company faltered and was sold in 1998. After the sale it was discovered that Drabinsky and Gottlieb committed fraud by falsifying the company s books ( What was Livent Inc.?). In 2009 both men were convicted of fraud. With the demise of Livent, and the fact that Really Useful Group is no longer a publicly traded company, Disney Theatrical Productions is currently the only Broadway production company that is publicly traded. Though private, DTP does have some similarities with other corporate production companies, an example of which is the Nederlander Organization. Founded in 1912 by David T. Nederlander, the Nederlander Organization is one of the largest privately held entertainment companies in the world. The company is currently run by the Nederlander family; James M. Nederlander is currently the chairman and James L. Nederlander is currently the company s president. The Nederlander Organization is divided into several parts, the company ... • 3. Examples Of Damsel In Distress Sonia Piątek CHAPTER I: TYPES OF REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN IN VIDEO GAMES 1.1. Damsel in distress One of the most widely used clichés in video games is Damsel in distress. The word comes from French demoiselle, which means young lady . Demoiselle en detresse translates into damsel in distress . As a trope the damsel in distress is a plot device in which a female character is placed in a perilous situation from which she cannot escape on her own and must be rescued by a male character, usually providing a core incentive or motivation for the protagonist s quest. First known example of the Damsel in distress can be seen in the myth about Perseus and his wife Andromeda, who is chained naked to a rock by the sea as a sacrifice, and is then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The protagonist Booker DeWitt, is sent there to find a young lady called Elizabeth, who has been held captive by her father Zachary Comstock in a tower for most of her life. The scenario sounds to be the classic example of Damsel in distress, but when Booker reaches the tower, he realizes that she is not so gentle, helpless and defenseless as he thinks. She is unlike any character that I have seen in a game, especially when you play through the entire thing and you see how she evolves. DeWitt manages to rescue Elizabeth and they both get involved in the city s conflict, during which she shows her strange, but strong superpowers. Her character is well rounded. Her backstory is interesting and complex. Her flaws and the way she expresses emotions makes her more real and human. She s resourceful and quick witted, with the ability to break codes and pick locks like they re nothing (being locked in a tower with nothing but books means she s got a lot of hobbies). Elizabeth has no experience with shooting and fighting, but she effectively helps Booker. She looks for ammunition and health kits and provides them to the main character. Her participation plays a vital role during battles. Elizabeth even saves Booker life few times. That time Elizabeth gave him CRP on the beach when he almost drowned, or that time she caught him with a blimp to save him from falling off the city, or that time she gave herself up to Songbird to save his life. Elizabeth is essential to succeed. There is also no sexual undertone in her relationship with Booker. Creative director of Irrational Games, said that In terms of her body type, I think certainly people on the Internet have spent way more time thinking about Elizabeth s chest than I have, he said. It s something I ve barely thought about. Levine said it becomes disappointing for him when Elizabeth s measurements become the topic of conversation, because this was ... • 4. Lineage-Based Perspective With there being more than 50,000 species of vertebrates alone it is essential for all biology majors to have a working knowledge of the tree of life. The two perspectives for teaching zoology are the Linnean taxonomical and the Phylogenetic clade based perspective. The Linnean taxonomical perspective is a rank based hierarchy while the phylogenetic clade based perspective groups species by focusing a common ancestor and its descendants. In regards to teaching zoology there is more value in using the phylogenetic clade based perspective rather than the Linnean perspective because it allows students to organize the details of biodiversity with a more rational system. Phylogenetic taxonomy focuses on common ancestry and derived functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example; Coleoptera contains over three hundred thousand species while Primate contains roughly four hundred species including the human (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene). This lack of criteria is what causes the exclusion of taxonomic acknowledgment of major evolutionary innovations while inaccurately portraying history. It is also mentioned in Greene s more recent journal that the Linnean method fails at specifying clades based upon the origin of limbs in tetrapods and shelled egg amniotes. While it also, obscures the fact that crocodilians are more closely related to birds than they are to turtles, lizards, and snakes, which does not highlight many dramatic similarities between earlier archosaurs (Ballen, Cissy J., and Harry W. Greene). These two main concerns of omission and obscuration are why the phylogenetic clade based system is a far more valuable and beneficial methodology for teaching zoology. As it was mentioned previously, the phylogenetic clade based perspective only recognizes monophyletic taxa, which are those taxa derived from a common ancestor not shared with any other group. There is another argument being made that paraphyletic groups should not be included as units of study within a zoology course. Paraphyletic and monophyletic units of study both have their benefits and drawbacks however I believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Use of Hesse Siddhartha to Reflect the Legendary Atmosphere of Buddha Siddhartha is one of the names of the historical Gautama, and the life of Hesse s character resembles that of his historical counterpart to some extent. Siddhartha is by no means a fictional life of Buddha, but it does contain numerous references to Buddha s philosophies and his teachings. Although Hesse s Siddhartha is not intended to portray the life of Gautama the Buddha but he used the name and many other attributed to reflect the legendary atmosphere and the pattern of his heroes transformation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fourth truth is to be brought into being, the truth of the eightfold ariya path leading to the cessation of suffering. (Robinson) The first two steps in the Eightfold Path, which leads to the cessation of suffering, are right understanding and right resolution; a person must first discover and experience the correctness of the Four Noble Truths, and then resolve to follow the correct path. The next three steps form a kind of unit: right speech, right behavior, and right livelihood. These reflect the external aspects of a person s life, which must not be neglected. The interior disciplines constitute the final three steps: right efforts, right mindfulness, and right contemplation. By this means, the follower of Buddha can arrive at Nirvana. (Robinson) Buddhists do not believe in transcendent or any other type of god or gods, the need for a personal savior, the power of prayer, eternal life in heaven or hell after death as many of the western religions do. They do believe in reincarnation: the concept that one must go through many cycles of birth, living and death. After many of these cycles, if a person releases their attachment to desire and the self they can then attain Nirvana. The teachings of Buddhism effectively deal with the question of human beings very existence and pursue the surest way toward establishing a secure basis for living. It is a practical system, which provides a means to realize a state of self perfection. (Field) Siddhartha is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis on Atheism To be honest with you I think some of McCloskey questions of the existence of God are based and as a Christian I know I have questioned the existence of God at one point in my life. I had to really learn the hard way. From the article one can see that McCloskey is trying very hard to dismiss every claim of the theistic view. From the videos on blackboard, when someone decides to prove something or someone, then that means there is certainty and assurance that thing is absolutely true. The truth of the matter is that we cannot prove one hundred percent of the existence of God and that is why an Atheist like McCloskey would say that without evidence then there is no God. McCloskey try s his best to scientifically prove that the creation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that every argument is defeasible. I think that the reason that McCloskey is saying this is because he is arguing the God of the bible and not the minimalistic ideal of God. Everyone is entitled to believe what he or she wants to believe, he saying that the cosmological argument, does not entitle us to an all powerful and all perfect God but that still does not disvalue the rational of there being a God in the first place and I believe that makes his statement meaningless in disproving the necessity and presence of God. When it comes to the teleological argument, McCloskey also claims that the teleological argument lacks premises due to similar reasons as the cosmological argument. In short both arguments do not prove God as a designer. In his mind, this argument is faulty because it does not show enough evidence for the existence of God. What he means when he argues for a genuine indisputable example of design of the universe is that he desired to see obvious proof for the existence of God. He disagrees with the fact that it is impossible to proof something with one hundred evidence. In Evans and Manis, when they talk about some noticeable evidences that prove the existence of God in Philosophy of religion, they said that the way in which nature and the universe is organized and structured there must be a ... Crime In Victorian London Ethnicity and Perception of Criminality in Victorian London Victorian London at the time of Jack the Ripper s activity in 1881 contained several neighborhoods that were considered hotbeds of crime specifically London s East End. This included Whitechapel, the site of Jack the Ripper s murders. What is interesting about these neighborhoods is their high rate of immigrants, from Jews to the Irish. These foreigners contributed to a perception of these neighborhoods as crime ridden slums, ghettos where no self respecting Englishman or woman would find themselves. In this paper, I would like to more thoroughly examine the role ethnicity had in the perception of these poor neighborhoods, and how ethnicity played into the question of crime in general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also largely lived in the immigrant heavy slums of London.. After pogroms in the late nineteenth century Russian Empire, large numbers of Jews moved westward to escape persecution, with one of the largest waves occurring in 1882. This influx led some British people and the British press to accuse the Jews of swamping the city, overwhelming its charitable organizations and spreading communicable diseases such as influenza. This attitude reflects the common racist attitude that non Anglo people were somehow dirty, and stole services from the British the rightful users of public assistance. In some newspapers, like the Pall Mall Gazette, this immigration was described as an invasion of Russian Jews, emphasis mine. Unlike the Irish, however, the Jewish immigrants residing in London and England as a whole were accused of bankrolling the government in order to hide their numerous crimes; this was claimed by the British Brother s League, a quasi fascist group that organized against immigrants. This put them in a position of imagined power, something that the Irish did not have in the popular British imagination. This was possibly due to the fact that Jewish immigrants largely occupied skill based work they practiced in their home countries once they arrived in London, leading them to amass more money than the Irish, who remained in low skilled, low paying jobs. Within the OMB, the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) was established with specific authority to regulate matters regarding federal information and to establish information policies. These information policies were intended to reduce the total amount of paperwork handled by the United States government and the general public. This act established the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs within the Office of Management and Budget. It also creates procedural requirements for federal agencies that intend to give the public a recordkeeping or reporting requirement. For example, a federal agency would be required to inform the public on the value or importance of each field on a form. This act also states that all federal agencies must receive approval form the Office of Management and Budget before release any media or forms to be used in the collection of information ... Sobel Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Abstract This paper of Philip Condit and the Development of the 777; describes the management, and technological changes that Philip Condit made to the development style of the Boeing Company. Before Philip Condit took over the 777 program, Boeing had been making airplanes in the same fashion as it had been doing for 70 years prior. Mr. Condit saw the chance to bring Boeing into the 21st century not only with the new technology of computer aided drafting, but with modern management techniques as well. The 777 program proved to be the perfect testing ground for a companywide change in the way Boeing did its business. Philip Condit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having the Government subsidize Airbus s development phase gave Airbus company a great advantage (Lawrence, 2008). Airbus at the time also had the advantage in terms of technology. The fly by wire technology had been in use for some time in the Airbus A320. The two new models; A330 and A340; also used this technology. Boeing had yet to produce a fly by wire system (Richards, 1990). The industry environment was also in Boeings favor at the time. Boeing had a history of dedicated customers. The company had been making commercially successful jet aircraft since it first developed the 707 . Boeing was so successful at manufacturing the jet aircraft, that it was one of two companies left making them. This advantage gave them the ability to be a powerful supplier. The expense of the development process also made it extremely difficult for new companies to even enter the market. Boeing faced only one competitor at this point; Airbus (Pearce, Robinson, 2003). This was where Philip Condit stepped in. He had been an engineer with Boeing since 1965; and assisted in the design of the 707, 727, 737, 747, and 757. He understood how the company operated. One of the first things he changed was how the aircraft was to be physically designed. Previously, the engineers would design a wing on paper, build it out of wood or foam, and then add it to a mockup of the aircraft. The people designing the fuel tanks would then add in their ... Immigration Policy Institute ( Mpi ) Immigration Chapter 1: Introduction Background and Justification According to Migration Policy Institute(MPI) immigration is a prominent part of the United States DNA. Among different immigrant groups in the United States it is highly uneven, and the size of the unauthorized population continues to be a powerful barrier to social cohesion, full social economic, and political integration. (Jimenez, 2016) The Research Problem Concerns still exist about immigrants ability to integrate into broader society. Americans feel as if they have to adjust to the different ethnicity because their language can take over their country and they can maybe lose their jobs from the illegal immigration that is happening in the United States. Also, the fear of our citizens are that any immigrant that illegally come over to the United States; can be a dangerous terrorist or even a criminal felon. What the U.S. Americans want is the illegal immigration to stop and have the immigrants come over and learn English and take the test and get their citizenship the right way. But the production of control data in the form of coded machine instructions requires programming skills as well as an understanding of robotics concepts such as kinematics, which lie outside most architects domain of expertise. To address this problem, the custom robot programming library YOUR, which aims at making robot control intuitively accessible to students, has been implemented. The Pros And Cons Of Indian Atomic Bombs Not long after May 11, 1998 at Pokhran, a betray site in the Indian province of Rajasthan, gatherings of neighborhood Bishnoi herders whose traditions prohibit murdering creatures or cutting trees heard a gigantic blast, and viewed in astonishment as a colossal clean cloud coasted in the sky. What the Indian ranchers did not understand, but rather the representatives in Washington and around the globe soon got a handle on, was the way that India had quite recently joined the United States, Russia, England, France and China as the most up to date individual from the atomic club. On that warm May evening, Indian atomic researchers effectively detonated three nuclear gadgets adding up to around six times the ruinous energy of the American bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. To many critics, he is conveyed as a Machiavellian Prince, using others for his own political ends, and to some critics, a God like figure, testing the pathology of power in Vienna. Despite these two polar opposites the character is nethertheless a character of ambivalence. Contradiction is one of the main themes of the play, as is appearance versus reality, law versus grace and justice versus mercy. In marrying both Lucio and Angelo, he is committing them to a life of misery, far worse than being executed, and also humiliating and disgracing them. Kate Keepdown is also done justice in terms of law, but may not want to be married, as she will no longer be able to continue being a prostitute. Also, this is not really fair for Lucio, no one else had been charged for fornication with a prostitute, and the only reason Lucio is being judged so severely is because he slandered the Duke. Lucio called the Duke a very superficial, ignorant, unweighing fellow and also told the Friar that his [the Duke] use was, to put a ducat in her clack dish... he would be drunk too . This creates dramatic irony as the Duke is actually the Friar in disguise. A ducat in her clack dish is a euphemism for being with prostitutes. The novel begins with Hang on a train as she is traveling to visit her uncle Chihn. Within this narrative, Hang s memories are framed as she switches back and forth between stories throughout the novel. This revolving of stories mimics a human s natural train of thought in the way that it is like she is lost in thought and then regains consciousness to the present for a short while. For example, she notes that at exactly 11:00 AM, Pearlena, Memphis, and herself enter the back entrance of Woolworth s. Moody writes, A middle aged white woman who had not yet been served rose from her seat and came over to us. I d like to stay here with you, she said, but my husband is waiting. The husband didn t show any importance before, so she clearly made an excuse so she could clearly avoid the violence that would surely ensue. She is questioned by a newsman, to which she never revealed her name, but she stated that she did feel empathy for black people and their movement. A couple of the boys took one end of the rope and made it into a hangman s noose. Several attempts were made to put it around our necks. The thoughts relating to the body are powerful to the reader, and they serve to remind the audience that death is inevitable and that we all have to face it as some point in our lives. Therefore, the principles of texture and color trigger remembrance especially because of the numerous repetitions that help to create balance, unity, harmony, and symmetry (Sayre 2012). Housman s To an Athlete Dying Young, also known as Lyric XIX in A Shropshire Lad, holds as its main theme the premature death of a young athlete as told from the point of view of a friend serving as pall bearer. The poem reveals the concept that those dying at the peak of their glory or youth are really quite lucky. The first few readings of To an Athlete Dying Young provides the reader with an understanding of Housman s view of death. Additional readings reveal Housman s attempt to convey the classical idea that youth, beauty, and glory can be preserved only in death. A line by line analysis helps to determine the purpose of the poem. The first stanza of the poem tells of the athlete s triumph and his glory filled parade through the town in which the crowd loves and cheers for him. As Bobby Joe Leggett defines at this point, the athlete is carried of the shoulders of his friends after a winning race (54). In Housman s words: The time you won your town the race We chaired you through the market place; Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder high. (Housman 967). Stanza two describes a much more somber procession. The athlete is being carried to his grave. • 27. Summary Of Slavery In Toni Morrison s Beloved In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, the social, personal, and political cruelty of American slavery is the central factor driving the story. The method of cruelty most prominent in Beloved is the belittling of slaves at the hands of those with privileged identities, which ultimately reveals that the victims in the novel are each on their own personal quests to reclaim their own identities. Within the novel, Morrison utilizes animalistic language that contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole; that one s identity can be destroyed when victim to a form of cruelty known as dehumanization. One of the most notable moments in which Morrison uses language related to animals to describe a scene of abuse and powerlessness occurs when Sethe partakes in a sexual act with the tomb engraver as an alternative method of payment. The narrator describes the situation once saying [Sethe] thought it would be enough, rutting among headstones with the engraver, his young son looking on, the anger in his face so old; the appetite in it quite new (5). A key aspect to this graphic scene is the nature of the son and his father who both contribute to the cruel dehumanization of Sethe. Morrison creates a sense of spectatorship, as if Sethe was just an object to peer at, by describing the son as looking on. Furthermore, the engravers apparent anger and appetite immediately invoke a dynamic of a predator seeking out its prey as those two words indicate an animalistic, instinctual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The number of these community controlled organisations in comparison to Government organisations is far more limited. Then finally, there are community controlled organisations that specifically cater for the health and welfare needs of Indigenous Australian women, which are so limited that out of a list of 53 Indigenous community based health services in New South Wales only one of these services was specifically for Indigenous Australian women. Waminda is a women s health and welfare Aboriginal corporation on the south coast of New South Wales, in the area of Shoalhaven. Shoalhaven is a community with an Indigenous Australian population of 6.2% (ABS, 2010). However, with this high density of Indigenous population means there are also high levels of morbidity from chronic disease, premature mortality and low levels of private health insurance (Health, Illawara Shoalhaven Local Health District, 2012). Waminda provides a free service where they aim to empower and support Aboriginal women in making their own health decisions and reduce the high rate of ill health among Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander women in the Shoalhaven community (Waminda, n.d). As a very family orientated population 71% of Indigenous Australian women in the community have had children illustrating the need of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Time In The Great Gatsby The concept of time is mentioned in The Great Gatsby at least 450 times, through character names, nouns, and occurrences. Time being such a heavily focused on subject in the novel shows how focused F. Scott Fitzgerald was on showing the positives and negatives of making time an important aspect of how life is perceived and lived. Fitzgerald s outlook on time is one of longing and regret, portrayed in Gatsby s persona, actions, and hopefulness. Gatsby is born a poor man with not much to show for himself in his early life, until he meets a rich young lady who flips his world upside down. Daisy shows Gatsby her love built on broken promises as she promises to marry him once he comes home from Oxford but ends up marrying Tom Buchanan before Gatsby can be home to stop the wedding. Once Gatsby realizes this as he returns home, he shapes his life around doing nothing but creating a world that would bring Daisy back into his arms just like their younger days. ... It is insinuated that Gatsby did not make his money in the most ethical way when Tom shares that he found what your drug stores were and explains that Gatsby and Wolfsheim purchased side street drug stores and sold alcohol over the counter, which was illegal at the time (Fitzgerald 100). Gatsby covers this scheme up with talk of inheriting his money from old family, but is not very consistent in his lies, as Nick notices him use several different answers at separate times. I think he hardly knew what he was saying when I asked him what business he was in he answered, That s my affair before he realized that it wasn t the appropriate reply (Fitzgerald 103). While Gatsby may have been successful in his illegal money affairs, this does not mean his efforts were not wasted on someone unworthy of the time and money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Joseph Conrad Imperialism Modern Imperialism Alexander Spirovski LITR 211 Professor David Auchter American Public University Heart of Darkness is a novella written by Joseph Conrad based on his six month stay in Congo, Africa which is considered a significant tome for its depiction of Imperialism. Imperialism is defined as a policy or practice by which a country increases its power by gaining control over other areas of the world. (Merriam Webster Dictionary) In it Conrad depicts the treatment of the local natives by Europeans and the motives of Europeans to compare actual activities in Africa to the propaganda being spread in Europe claiming efforts to civilize , educate, and otherwise establish Africans to European standards of living. The accuracy of Conrad s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to BBC.com, fighting amongst these groups is ultimately for command of mineral and other resources which Europeans previously controlled. Apparently the citizens there have not learned anything from their prior overlords except the repetition of imperialistic behavior. Perhaps it is even worse as Europeans did not seem interested in ethnic cleansing. I think Congo might possibly be a lost cause as it is virtually impossible for them to create a new vision and model for themselves as long as they fight amongst themselves. This setting perfectly describes a modern tragedy since they are unwilling to unite in order to create an optimal society for themselves especially given that no other countries are strongly interested or willing enough to lend meaningful assistance which would allow them to overcome their predicaments and develop into a functioning modern ... • 36. The Criminalization Of Prostitution And Sex Work In a cozy, first world country, the realm of crime, abuse, and drug use, seems like it is worlds away, when in reality, these horrific acts occur in our own backyard. But to a prostitute, it s their entire world, being forced to work in the grit and grime of the streets, and to make a dangerous living in the underground. The criminalization of prostitution and sex work is flawed at its very core men and women shouldn t have to lower their standards of living in order to exercise their rights to both their body and work. Unfortunately, there s a disconnect between these sex workers and those outside their world, and people often mistakenly tie prostitution to feeding horrific crimes, such as human trafficking rings, rape, and murder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But of course, Amnesty International, a well known human rights non profit organization, says otherwise with a recent development: a request for the decriminalization and legalization of prostitution, the vote passing mid August of last year ( Global Movement Votes to Adopt Policy to Protect Human Rights of Sex Workers ). Amnesty International s vote is all inclusive, aiming to do all they can to better the lives of sex workers. The organization actively worked with current and former sex workers in the formation of their policy regarding sex work, and hope to have their model accepted globally. Other abolitionists of prostitution seem to think that sex work fuels the demand for commercial sex, which is the indisputable driving force behind the sex trafficking industry (McCain) despite evidence that points the opposite of such a relationship, and goes against basic economic principles criminalizing prostitution will only result in it being driven underground, and raising the stakes of competitive trafficking rings (Ahmed). With regulation, easy access, and availability, there would be less of a reason for johns, or clients, to get an escort through the underground, and would result in the sex trafficking industry having a surplus of victims as demand decreases. And while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
