European Union Common Immigration Policy Essay
EU Common Immigration Policy
The Blue Card Policy Paper
European Union represents economic and political partnership of 28 states, with population more than
500 million people who can travel within its territory without considering internal borders. It operates
as a single market with standardized laws and guaranteed freedom of movement of people, goods,
services and capital. As such, European Union is attractive destination for all kind of immigrants, from
people in search of a better life from unfortunate and unstable regions to highly qualified work force
who are looking for greater business opportunities. As European Commission President Jose Manuel
Barroso said in an interview for Time Magazine (Oct. 24,2007) Europe is an ... Show more content on

(Summaries of EU legislation, n.d.)
The ten principles aim to establish a balanced framework for legal immigration within Common
Immigration Policy, which is focused on better organization of legal immigration. It also considers
special interest in integration and dealing with irregular immigration, through intensive partnerships
with non EU countries based on solidarity and shared responsibility. While focusing on legal
immigration, EU measures particularly cover certain categories of immigrants like highly qualified
workers (subject of EU Blue Card Directive), students and researchers, intra corporate transferees,
long term residents, seasonal workers and family reunification.
Given the comprehensiveness Common Immigration Policy deals with, this paper focuses on
migration of highly qualified immigrants supported by Blue Card Directive.

Workplace Diversity And The Workplace
Workplace Diversity Many outstanding articles, books, journals and papers have been written
regarding the topic of workforce diversity. Some are relatively short papers such as Diversity in the
Workplace published by the University of Florida, and seek to provide the reader with a basic
understanding of what is meant by workplace diversity, as well as the potential benefits to both
employers and employees alike. Other resources can be significantly more in depth and explore
subtopics of workplace diversity including the effects of marriage on work place attitudes, or how to
effectively manage the cultural and demographic differences within a firm s labor pool. Information
regarding generalities in different cultures around the globe is also available as a resource for those
seeking to understand customs in mannerisms and body language across varying cultures. In addition
to the many websites and literature available to employers, there are also companies such as Big
World Inc., whose does business under the name of Diversity Resources, offers training tools and
services geared towards providing customized solutions for firms wishing to outsource training
programs for employees including harassment, conflict resolution, international team building, gender
bias or any one of a number of other topics related to diversity. A brief list of some of these resources
appears below: Diversity in the Workplace: Benefits, Challenges and Solutions. Greenberg, J. (2009)

Investigation of How Mark Shows the Difference Between...
Investigation of How Mark Shows the Difference Between Jesus and the Pharisees Over the
Observance of the Sabbath
Jesus and the Pharisees face each other and test each others religious and spiritual knowledge and
understanding regularly in Mark s gospel. These common conflicts brought emphasis to just how
much Jesus knew about God s opinions of the Sabbath in comparison to the Pharisees. On many
occasions he even outsmarted the great teachers of the law. Jesus was constantly the first to be
confronted by the Pharisees but always the one to make the last point, because as much as they tried
the Pharisees could never beat Jesus in a test of spiritual and religious knowledge. However, they

However, the Pharisees were brought up in a completely different way because of this, their opinions
and interpretation about Jewish life were different to his. I will now provide some information
surrounding the Pharisees:
The word Pharisee means separated one . I assume that this was the name issued to them due to the
fact that they thought so highly of themselves that they were separated from the rest of society. They
considered themselves superior to the other Jews, because of their knowledge on the Holy Scriptures.
They became almost like teachers to the public due to their knowledge, as people were to come to
them for advice since they assumed that the scriptures had solutions to all of their problems. Many
people became dependant on the Pharisees religious guidance which made them powerful and a
significant group of people. I believe that their abilities made some of the Pharisees overconfident, self
centred and big headed .
The Pharisees came from among wealthy business people and merchants. This is partially why they
thought so highly of themselves, because of their great financial network. The only significant thing to
the Pharisees was their oral law, the Law of Moses and the law of the Sabbath and how their rules and
standards were being kept. They wanted the rest of the Jewish community to live by a strict code of

Malintzins Choices Essay
Nick Schweitzer
Malintzin s Choices
Malintzin had an important role in the ancient history and colonization of Latin America. She would
rise from just a simple servant girl and slave, to become one of the key factors of the Spanish
colonization of the indigenous natives in the New World. She helped translate for the Spanish
conquistadors and even Hernando Cortés himself. Malintzin s interpreting skills would prove crucial
in the dealings between Hernando Cortés and the Aztec emperor Montezuma. Camilla Townsend uses
the story of Malintzin to display the conquest of Mexico in a different aspect and first person point of
view.
It is crucial to focus on translators when it comes to understanding the conquest of Mexico. It shows

The author depicts Malintzin as a subjugation of Cortés. Malintzin used her position to help herself.
She was given away as a slave at a young age. For someone like her this was her only way to escape
poverty and make sure she was cared for by the Spanish. She used her skills to obtain a better life than
the other 19 slaves who had been given to Cortés. She was loyal to Cortés because the Spanish had
finally given her a position of power that she had never had before with the natives. She did so only to
remind her purported masters of her loyalty (82). She was very loyal to Cortés and in fact loved him
as she birthed his first son Martin Cortés.
Both Malintzin and the Spanish benefited from Malintzin s choices. Later on the Tlaxcala would
benefit too. Initially the Tlaxcala s and the Spanish were enemies, but eventually with the help of
Malintzin they were able to form an alliance in order to fight the Aztecs. For having arranged with the
Tlaxcalans to provide military reinforcements (perhaps as many as five thousand) (79). With the aid of
the Tlaxcala the Spanish where able to press on forward toward Tenochtitlan. Even though their first
attack didn t end up so well they still kept an alliance due to Malintzin that would later prove useful.
Later after the Spanish conquests, they keep their word and they didn t destroy Tlaxcala along with the
majority of other native settlements.

Importance Of Good Manners Essay
Manners, we hear about then every day, at home, at work, from our parents, and peers but do we really
recognize the importance of good manners? Manners are respectful actions that make an ordinary man
a gentleman. Good manners and courtesies are one of the most valuable facets of society. They make a
man a useful member of the world, making one functional in both their professional life and personal
life by helping us to win the favor and confidence of others. In order to have progress in life, good
manners are essential. On the other hand, an ill mannered man is generally shunned by everyone and
has no chance of success in any walk of life he pursues. In today s society, proper etiquette and good
manners are almost nonexistent in some parts of the country and we have to ask ourselves why this is.
Why do people lack the basic etiquette that is essential to living a professional and respectful life? The
answer is that people are uneducated on these topics. The fact is most parents don t do a good enough
job building good etiquette habits in their children and there is absolutely no requirement for the skills
in the school systems. They may be enforced but they are in no form taught in a formal classroom
setting. In order to improve our society and educate people of these essential etiquettes we must
implement proper etiquette and life skills classes in the youth school systems.
Family household dynamics are drastically different in today s society. According to the California

Benefits Of A Solid Waste
Beginning on October 20, I started carefully assessing my daily routine and documenting my activities
in regards to my production of solid waste, carbon emissions, and use of fresh water. During those two
weeks, I collected data and examined how I could help reduce my overall ecological footprint and use
of environmental resources through propositions, research, and online calculations.
Solid Waste
Current Routine:
During the week, I begin my day by walking to Mean Greens cafeteria for breakfast. I am provided
with the dishes for my meal, which are all reusable and therefore I do not contribute any waste in
regards to those. I do however use multiple napkins during my meals. Often, I threw away all the
napkins I took, including the ones I did not use. I only used two of the five napkins I got every meal. I
also left food scraps on my plate, which were thrown away and contributed to compost solid waste. I
also go to Mean Greens cafeteria for lunch and dinner and have similar habits when it comes to how
much solid waste I produce during those meals. On average during one week I throw out 30 napkins
and an estimate of two pounds of food. Under circumstances where I cannot make it to the cafeteria to
eat and I need quick and easy access to food, I get fries from Chik Fil A. This usually happens twice a
week on Tuesdays and Thursdays before my environmental science class. I get two large fries in a to
go bag, which are all thrown away after I am done eating. I drink three

The Legacy Of Ted Bundy
Theodore Robert Cowell, more notoriously known as Ted Bundy, was born in Burlington, Vermont on
November 24, 1946. Bundy was raised by his grandparents for the first three years of his life in order
to avoid public disgrace from their community due to the fact that Bundy s mother had him out of
wedlock. As a young boy, Bundy was under the notion, along with the community around him, that his
grandparents were his parents and his mother was his older sister. At the age of four, his mother left
with Bundy to live in Philadelphia and there met her new husband, Johnny Bundy. Together, they
resulted in conceiving four children and despite the fact that Johnny Bundy had adopted him; he
continued to stay secluded from the rest of the family. His childhood overall is controversial; in
interviews, Bundy described his grandparents as respectful and was very attached to his grandfather.
Later on, it was revealed to attorneys by other family members and himself that Bundy s grandfather,
Samuel Cowell, was a domineering and prejudice person. Different reports from beating his wife and
the family dog to pushing Bundy s aunt down a flight of stairs were claimed to have happened. His
grandmother however, was described by Bundy as being humble and loyal who went through therapy
for depression. Bundy started exhibiting his abnormal behavior at a young age, reports from his aunt
stating she woke up from a nap to discover she was surrounded by knives and a three year old Bundy

Essay on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas
Frederick Douglas, a slave born in Tuckahoe Maryland, was half white and half black. His mother was
a black woman and his father a white man. Though he never knew his father, there was word that it
was his master. Douglas wrote this narrative and I felt that it was very compelling. It really showed me
the trials and tribulations that a black man went through during times of slavery.
In his early years, Douglas lived on a farm where he watched many slaves receive harsh beatings and
whippings. For example, one of his masters whipped his Aunt Hester because she was not there when
he desired her presence. At the time she was in the company of another man, which was something

Hopkins, and Mr. Austin Gore were all cruel overseers. An exception to this was Mr. Hopkins, who
was not a typical overseer. Unlike the others, he did not curse a lot, and bent the rules every now and
then. He was called by the slaves a good overseer (p. 7). The typical overseer would have beat a slave
the second he stepped out of line. For example, Mr. Gore, who took Mr. Hopkins place was very cruel
and would not take any sort of talking back. He would not communicate with any of the slaves except
for giving orders and beating them. He was, in a word, a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone
like coolness (p. 13). There were also those white people who encouraged black people to escape, and
them catch them to receive rewards. Slaves could not catch any breaks.
On the other hand, there were some good whites. Douglas wanted to learn how to read, so he made
friends with some little white boys on the street. Douglas spoke of running errands, and stopping in
with the white children to learn to read in his spare time. As a symbol of his gratitude, Douglas would
give the children bread to eat. They, in fact, had a discussion about slavery at one point. He told the
children, You ll be free as soon as you re twenty one, but I m a slave for life! Have I not as good a
right to be free as you have? (p. 22). He recalled that this troubled them, but they still showed much
sympathy towards him. The presence of sympathetic white people gave him

Origin of Mass of Subatomic Particles Essay
This past October of 2013, François Englert and Peter W. Higgs were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize in Physics for 2013. For the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our
understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through
the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN s
Large Hadron Collider . Both Englert and Higgs proposed the theory of how particles acquire mass. It
was 1964 when both men proposed this theory independently. It wasn t until the year 2012, that both
men had their ideas confirmed by discovery of the Higgs Boson particle (particle responsible for
giving mass to objects) at the CERN laboratory in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These forces work over different ranges and have different strengths. That is to say, Gravity is the
weakest; the electromagnetic force has infinite range but is much stronger than gravity. Three of the
fundamental forces result from the exchange of force carrier particles; these belong to a group of
particles called bosons. Particles of matter transfer discrete amounts of energy by exchanging bosons
with each other (CERN). Each fundamental force has its own corresponding boson the strong force is
carried by the gluon, the electromagnetic force is carried by the photon, and the W and Z bosons
coincide with the weak force (CERN). That is to say, The Standard Model includes the
electromagnetic, strong and weak forces and all their carrier particles. This new particle was
somewhat consistent with the Higgs boson, but it will take more research to actually determine if it is
the same Higgs boson predicted by the original Standard Model. Being that protons are filled with
subatomic particles like quarks, antiquarks, and gluons they rarely pass or collide with each other.
That is to say, at a mass of about 125 GeV, the Higgs boson particle turned out to be approximately
one hundred times heavier than a proton. The Higgs boson particle showed that particles due have
mass. This played a unique role in the Standard

New Deal Dbq Research Paper
Following a decade of prosperity, thoughts of continuing improvements gained the confidence of
Americans. The collapse of the stock market was just the beginning. Under the administration of
Hoover and Roosevelt, Americans demanded government intervention for relief but were let down. On
October 24, 1929, also known as Black Thursday , the rise in stock prices faltered losing half of their
value in a single day. When it fell, investors began to sell their stocks. Between 1929 and 1932, the
stock market value dropped 75%. Banks and other businesses suffered heavy losses. Layoffs and
cutbacks lowered purchasing, so fewer people bought cars and appliances. By 1932, unemployment
went up to 25 percent. The reason for the Great Depression is that the U.S. factories produced more
than what could be consumed. Too much money went into profits and expansions, and not to the
workers (Divine et. al, 2013, p. 844). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Pressure vs. Number of Particles Lab Report
Introduction: The experiment deals with many different parts and one of them is gas, a substance that
moves freel through the air and their particles are stread farther away from each other when compared
to the other states of matter. The difference between the states of matter are how close the particles are
to each other. The experiment was completed to find how pressure affects the number of particles.
Pressure, which is the force exerted on an object by physical contact, was used to apply force into the
pressure sensor. A pressure sensor measures the amount of force can object has and this will tell us
how the pressure is affecting the number of particles. Also the volume, of the pressure ... Show more

TE-5 Essay
In this study, TE 5 doses of 0.04, 0.4, 0.12, and 4 ml/kg (a dose calculated to be appropriate for a
subject, 10 times the appropriate dose, 30 times the appropriate dose, and 100 times the appropriate
dose) were administered to rats in order to examine the effects on the elemental levels and blood
properties of the living organisms, and to evaluate the safety of TE 5 doses with regards to an
organism s homeostasis. First off, iron is excreted from the body mainly via bile and the intestinal
absorption system. (12) In this experiment, even in very low TE 5 dose groups, remarkable changes in
the iron content of tissue was not observed, which can probably be blamed on iron excretion via bile
corresponding to the dosage of TE 5 which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, extracorporeal excretion of zinc is mainly carried out via pancreatic liquid as is
known to play a role in the homeostasis of zinc in the body. In this experiment, rapid changes in zinc
content in the tissue were not observed, even in the dose groups up to 1.2 ml / kg. This suggests that
pancreatic fluid effectively excreted zinc when the dose of TE 5 was 1.2 ml / kg or lower. The liver
plays a central role in copper homeostasis and can be said to be the most important organ involved in
storage, blood transport, protein ceruloplasmin production, and bile duct excretion. (17, 18, 19) Also,
in this experiment, no significant increase in the copper content in the liver was observed, even in the
1.2 dose group (30 times adult regular dose) This is because copper is excreted in the bile duct and
does not get reabsorbed like iron. Excreted copper does not return to the liver. Also, in the 4 dose
group (100 times the adult regular dose) a marked rise in copper content was observed in the liver,
spleen, kidney, and tibia, probably because at this dose, copper homeostasis failed. Manganese has a
low toxicity (12), but chronic manganese poisoning is often reported, such as with people with

Atlantic Transformations
The Earth has undergone a series of physical transformations throughout its history, and every
transformation changes the way things such as water currents, heat circulation, and climate manifest.
Twenty million years ago, the Atlantic and Pacific oceans flowed freely between North and South
America because there was no land barrier between them, which meant that the salinity of the oceans
were similar. This meant that warm water vapor wasn t being carried up to the North Atlantic, like
happens today. When the pacific plate was pushed under the Caribbean plate volcanoes, islands, and
eventually the body of land that connects North and South America formed. This caused the currents
of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to go towards the north,

Gimpel the Fool
There are a variety of different conclusions that one can reach in interpreting the story of Gimpel the
Fool. The story draws its roots from the deep Yiddish background of the author, Isaac Bashevis Singer,
and it deals with the traditional ―fool‖ archetype dealt with so often in the culture. The very archetype
is plagued with irony, as the fool is typically seen as coming out on top of all of the others in the story,
making them seem as the fool rather than the ―fool‖ himself. Gimpel the Fool follows the archetype
well. In some instances, the idea of this particular archetype can be frustrating, as the typical reader

better in liquidity and credit risk. In t test of the return on asset (ROA) and total equity to net loans,
there are no major difference between Islamic banks and non Islamic banks. In the return on equity
and common equity to total assets, there are statistically significant differences in these two groups.
The statistically significant difference was shown in the area of liquidity which means that the Islamic
banks liquidity performance has major difference with the non Islamic banks.
In general, Islamic banking system is based on Sharī ah principle, while non Islamic banking system is
based on interest rate. Sharī ah is a set of norms, values and laws that go to make up the Islamic way
of life. Characteristics of Sharī ah compliant banking and financial system are free from riba. Riba is
prohibited in Islamic banking system, because Islamic banking system is based on the sharing of risk

Mary Wigman
Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should
incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they
had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which
was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and
mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two
different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as
represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that
were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... Show more content on

She was down rooted to the earth; dark images, death, witches, and war inspired her. She used heavy
and tense percussion or silence. A few of her choreographies got the chance to be filmed, her dances
looked as if it was improvisational but her pieces were set and stone and made up before performed.
One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque
play of bodies, limbs, and heads. At first a crowded, tangled heap, it starts vibrating slowly in ever
increasing elastic and shaking movements, dissolves and darts out to the floor in somersaults and
grotesque jumps... The demon in the human who had worn a tragic mask in so many of Mary Wigman
s dances now wore a comical mask, as if his dark and dangerous power had been conquered, (Stewart
and Armitage 13 14). Once you go in deeper into why Wigmans pieces are so different compared to
Duncan you start looking at the bigger picture of how Germany was doing at the time, with the whole
World War I (1914 1918) and the beginning of Hitler s upraise in the 1930 s leading to World War II
(1939 1945) this was all during the time frame of Wigmans life. Knowing that these two important
figures both created dances and created a new thing at the time called modern makes them quite
extraordinary, because they both loved modern dancing, they both created a living off of it, yet they
were in different parts

Whitford Hockey Club Case Study
With a growing sporting community, Whitford Hockey Club is making a move to improve. The club is
building a new facility at the Warwick Open Space. Construction will take place between 2015 and

Government Structures And Religious Beliefs In Spanish...
Society s norms and expectations more often than not impact an individual s actions and ideology,
whether they are from Ancient Greece or modern day United States. Government structures and
religious beliefs in the society of Spanish Settlers and in early American slavery lead individuals to
judge other races because of the disassociation between two cultures and generalized concepts about
the other ethnic on the basis of hearsay and rumor. The setup of the Spaniard s society and the
American Slave Trade system influences the minds of the individuals a part of them, stemming from
their governments and religions.
In the society of the Spanish Settlers and early American slavery, government structures cause the
settlers and slaves to quickly judge other races due to their lack of association. In La Relación , the
Spanish Settlers alienation from the natives in America causes the Spaniards to criticize the locals
because of the differences between the two, specifically the contrasts in their governments. Álvar
Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, as the narrator of La Relación , says, The islanders wanted to make physicians
of us without examination or a review of diplomas ... We scoffed ... at the idea we knew how to heal ,
(Cabeza 78). When the natives tell the Spanish Settlers to become medicine men, the Conquistadors
judge the natives way of determining their qualification. In Spain, one needs schooling to become a
certified doctor. Since the two groups have minimal direct interaction,

President Woodrow Wilson Needed to Make the World Safe for...
No man can sit down and withhold his hands from the warfare against wrong and get peace from his
acquiescence . President Woodrow Wilson could not maintain neutrality after a series of events that
threatened the interests of the US. Wilson knew that he would not have the support of a diverse
American public upon entering the war, so he came up with a plan. He designed the Committee on
Public Information to advertise pro war propaganda. He needed to convince the people that an
involvement in the war was needed to make the world safe for democracy . Propaganda was heavily
used to mobilize the public opinion of a united war effort, and it was also an attempt on homogenizing
a pluralistic nation. The positive effects of this use were it unified a heterogeneous society, and it was
able to get the Americans to invest their time and effort on the war. The negative effects of this were it
caused hatred to those who were of the enemies ancestry, and false advertising lead to a loss of many
innocent lives. When war erupted in Europe in 1914, the US adopted a policy of neutrality and
seclusion. This policy was favored by a vast majority of Americans, especially those of German and
Irish descent. The people of the United States were drawn from many nations, primarily from the
nations at war. The deficiency of public unity was the primary concern when America entered the war
on April 6, 1917. The Wilson Administration felt they needed to sway public opinion, because

The World Is Flat By Thomas L. Friedman
The World is Flat
Author Thomas L. Friedman analyses the technological advances that are creating a level economic
playing field with previously disadvantaged countries rising in knowledge and wealth rivaling that of
the United States and other world powers in the world. Telephone and computer technology,
previously a stronghold only of developed countries, is now easily accessible and has been accessed
and mastered by countries such as China and India, making these nations competitive. Friedman
perceives the flattening effect as so insightful as to be compared in scope to the Industrial Revolution.
Thomas Friedman mentions that world is growing flatter. When he says that world is flat, he means
that world is becoming more economically fair and levelling opportunities and wealth among all the
nations. With easy access to information and availability of opportunities irrespective of one s
locations is providing for people from many different countries with an equal chance to succeed
economically.
He often mentions about the effect of outsourcing jobs form The United States to foreign countries.
He analyzes the effects from both sides perspective. While reallocating jobs from America to foreign
countries improves that country s economy and GDP, it consequently also increases the demand for
American goods in that nation. In his view this is a positive development which will refine itself
continuously and continue to grow to a point when the world economies become lateral that

Cocaine As A Psychoactive Drug
A psychoactive substance is a chemical substance that changes the functioning of the brain resulting in
alterations in moods, perception or consciousness. Some of these substances are legal while others are
illegal depending on the jurisdiction of the user and the substance itself to meet the respective purpose.
These substances bring about various changes in the life of the user, more so they impose a substantial
health burden on the society. The most important psychoactive substance to address in the United
States is cocaine.
Cocaine is a psychoactive drug which has proven to be a threat in the current world. The United States
of America is not exceptional from the rest of the world in the fight against hard drugs. There are

Such organizations as women, fraternal and veteran s organizations come together to help the
community pursue healthy lifestyles. They increase public awareness towards the effects of drug and
substance abuse. This strategy comes in handy in the fight against cocaine abuse in the USA as many
youths are reached through these platforms and they are influenced to change their ways.
Moreover, workplace initiatives is another strategy that the USA has taken to deal with cocaine use in
the country. Many drug users are employed people who have the money to buy these hard drugs.
Therefore, workplace initiatives help sensitizing employees on the negative effects of cocaine use and
the laws concerning drug use so that they are aware of the consequences. This helps reform many drug
users and dealers thus changing for the better.
In my opinion, new strategies should be put in place to address the use of cocaine in the United States
of America. These will help in the fight against hard drugs in America as well as educate the entire
country on the dangers involved in drug dealing. Firstly, the government should include drug abuse in
the education curriculum. This is because the most affected group of people is the school going age.
School going age of people is susceptible and easily influenced due to peer pressure. Therefore, when
drug abuse is included in their curriculum they will

The Negative Effects Of Video Games
Introduction
Most of the research done on video games tends to be done on the possible negative effects associated
with the medium. From aggression and violence to the connection to mood disorders, video games
tend to get a bad reputation. However, there are studies that have been done about the possible
positive effects of games as well. There are definitely fewer positive studies than negative, but they
are out there for those who search them out. The study that was used by Kendall Ashley in her article
How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety , was not one of those studies.
News Article Purpose and Study Fit (250)
The news article by Kendall Ashley, How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety ,
claimed exactly as its title suggests. The article went into how different types of games, such as
MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games), puzzle games, and games based on
depression supposedly assisted with anxiety and depression. I went into reading this article favorably,
as someone who both enjoys video games and as someone who is diagnosed with anxiety. However,
after comparing what the study said with what the article presented it as, I found myself disappointed.
Ashley either did not understand what the study said or just named dropped the study to make her
article seem more valid. Most of the time when Ashley claims that Studies show that... she is either

Comparison Of My Math Strengths And Weaknesses
My Math Strengths and Weaknesses
As I am approaching the end of my educational career, it is time for me to evaluate how well I will do
teaching a subject I struggled in elementary school, math. Math is a subject I had a love hate
relationship with. I liked it when I was good and hated it when I struggled. I noticed this pattern not
only because of my abilities, but also of my teacher s abilities to teach the subject. My goal is not to be
a genius in math but I do want to be able to help and problem solve when my students have a struggle.
From kindergarten to the beginning of 1st grade, the math topic that is worked on is addition and
subtraction. According to the Texas Education Association, in kindergarten adding and subtraction ...

TEA say that students start doing repeated addition toward the end of second grade to help them
transition to multiplication in third grade (TEA, 2012). When I was in school I struggled in
multiplication, but I did not give up. What helped me get better was practice until I was able to master
each multiplication term. With the takeover of calculators, I became rusty, but in order to teach my
students, I will have to practice again just like when I was in elementary school. I also have to be
ready to take a step back and go over addition although the TEKS says to move on to multiplication.
I excel in shapes, and for elementary, shapes are taught all through out. In first grade the focus is to
identify and classifying 2 dimension shapes. In second grade they move on to composing their own 2
dimensional figure and classify 3 dimensional figures. (TEA, 2017.) For students just starting to see
shapes only know square and rectangle. There are far more variations of this common shapes like
parallelograms, and they might get confused. What I will do to prepare myself to teach these students
is create vocabulary in my mind that is at their level. This way I can further explain the formal
definition if there is any confusion.
We all struggle with word problems, but since I am going to be a teacher I don t have to be perfect but
I do need to have a sense of problem solving. What I would do to help me teach word problems is
work it out with them. That way I

A Position Within The Political Communications Field
1. Introduction: This paper will focus on a position within the Political Communications field.
Political Communications is a sub field incorporating both political science and communications
disciplines; dealing with the production, and distribution of effects of information, both through the
use of media interpersonally and within a political context (Norris, 2004). The process operates
downwards from governing institutions towards citizens, horizontally in connection among different
political actors, and also upwards from general public opinion towards authoritative figures (Norris,
2004). For the sake of this paper, there will be a particular focus on the position of Director of
Communications held by Steve Kee at the Insurance Bureau of Canada. 2. Background: Established in
1964, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (also known as the IBC) is the leading national industry
organization representing Canada s private home, auto and business insurance (Insurance Bureau of
Canada, 2016). The IBC has worked on a number of fronts, by means of increasing public
understanding of the different divisions of insurance (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). Its goal is to
make communities, both small and large, safer, while championing issues directly affecting Canadians
(Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). As of 1997, the merging of both the Insurance Bureau of Canada
and the Insurance Crime Prevention Bureau of Canada resulted in the drastic restricting of the

How Does Myrtle Wilson Use Deception In The Great Gatsby
them both as well as her denial reveals to the reader that her deception is rooted from her dishonour.
Ultimately, Daisy was always going to be drawn to Tom as he had been from a wealthy heritage and
lives in East egg in an upmarket residence, unlike Gatsby who was of new money and lived in West
egg. Daisy was superficial and money was her driving force and priority, even her voice is full of
money. She had been everywhere and seen everything and done everything but she was unaware that
money does not bring contentment. This statement reflects the easy mobility of her lifestyle and those
of the higher class. She would still give Gatsby false hope you know I love you as his rise in wealth
was appealing and could be of a benefit to her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Daisy, Myrtle was passionate about her husband at first, but the marriage has since been at
breaking point. While Daisy doesn t have any real desire to leave Tom, Myrtle is eager to leave, and
very dismissive of her husband I never was any more crazy about him than I was about that man there.
She makes it clear she thinks she is finally heading for bigger and better things as he wasn t fit to lick
her shoe. A glimpse of the world of wealth was enough to turn her head and create a new artificial
women. In Chapter two, her appeal to wealth is shown further with the influence of the dress her
personality had also undergone a change. She is trying to become something that she ultimately is not.
Rather than face their problems as a couple, the Wilsons strive for dominance and supremacy within
the marriage. While George wants to move out west, he doesn t have the money, leaving him and
Myrtle in the valley of ashes and vulnerable to the dangers of the society at the time. The ashes could
symbolise their troubled relationship that they cannot see an escape from. Their downfall is their
unsteadiness within their marriage which stems from their financial situation. Fitzgerald is showing
that those who are not wealthy and are of lower classes are much more vulnerable to tragedy, which in
the end is Myrtles death. George Wilson is more humble than his wife. He seems to be satisfied and
happy with his life until he discovers that his wife is having an affair and being dishonest. His
character is comparable with Gatsby as both are dreamers and are ruined by their unrequited love.
Fitzgerald leads us to perceive the illusion that George is submissive allowing people take advantage
of him. However, another side of him is revealed after he murders Jay Gatsby. Nonetheless, unlike the
other characters he cannot live with or hide

Political Humor And Satire In The Show Black-Ish
The show Black ish displays political humor and satire by using concepts such as confrontation, and
discursive integration. Throughout this paper, I will be explaining how Black ish displays these
concepts, as well as proving that this text can be considered politically humorous and satirical. I will
be taking examples from the texts Entertaining the Citizen and the article Let Us Infotain You, as well
as the show Black ish itself to help clearly provide evidence that shows that show Black ish contains
satire.
Black ish is a sitcom about a higher middle class African American family who lives in a suburban

Black ish Is a comedy show but at times it shows clips or images that are not more news like and
informative to the viewers. To show how Black ish I will be discussing one of the episodes of the
show from season three in comparison with the article Let Us Infotain You. In the episode 40 Acres
and a Vote it used discursive integration. At the beginning, Andre had a slide playing sad music with
images of the Obama family on it. He then goes into a discussion speaking about how Barrack Obama
wasn t just important because he was the first black president, but because of he gave a hand in
showing African Americans that their votes not only were important, but they counted. There then was
a dramatization showing the process African Americans went through and the abuses they experienced
just to get to a place that showed their votes meant something. The reason why I believe that this is a
good example of the concept of discursive integration because although Black ish is a comedy sitcom,
it speaks on real life news situations that are happening currently. In the article Let Us Infotain You the
author s states, The blurring between news and entertainment is exemplified by the fact that the
National Enquirer s own reputation had been enhanced and begrudgingly acknowledged by members
of the mainstream press because of its reporting during the O. J.

  • 3. Workplace Diversity And The Workplace Workplace Diversity Many outstanding articles, books, journals and papers have been written regarding the topic of workforce diversity. Some are relatively short papers such as Diversity in the Workplace published by the University of Florida, and seek to provide the reader with a basic understanding of what is meant by workplace diversity, as well as the potential benefits to both employers and employees alike. Other resources can be significantly more in depth and explore subtopics of workplace diversity including the effects of marriage on work place attitudes, or how to effectively manage the cultural and demographic differences within a firm s labor pool. Information regarding generalities in different cultures around the globe is also available as a resource for those seeking to understand customs in mannerisms and body language across varying cultures. In addition to the many websites and literature available to employers, there are also companies such as Big World Inc., whose does business under the name of Diversity Resources, offers training tools and services geared towards providing customized solutions for firms wishing to outsource training programs for employees including harassment, conflict resolution, international team building, gender bias or any one of a number of other topics related to diversity. Investigation of How Mark Shows the Difference Between Jesus and the Pharisees Over the Observance of the Sabbath Jesus and the Pharisees face each other and test each others religious and spiritual knowledge and understanding regularly in Mark s gospel. These common conflicts brought emphasis to just how much Jesus knew about God s opinions of the Sabbath in comparison to the Pharisees. On many occasions he even outsmarted the great teachers of the law. Jesus was constantly the first to be confronted by the Pharisees but always the one to make the last point, because as much as they tried the Pharisees could never beat Jesus in a test of spiritual and religious knowledge. However, they persisted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the Pharisees were brought up in a completely different way because of this, their opinions and interpretation about Jewish life were different to his. I will now provide some information surrounding the Pharisees: The word Pharisee means separated one . I assume that this was the name issued to them due to the fact that they thought so highly of themselves that they were separated from the rest of society. They considered themselves superior to the other Jews, because of their knowledge on the Holy Scriptures. They became almost like teachers to the public due to their knowledge, as people were to come to them for advice since they assumed that the scriptures had solutions to all of their problems. Many people became dependant on the Pharisees religious guidance which made them powerful and a significant group of people. I believe that their abilities made some of the Pharisees overconfident, self centred and big headed . The Pharisees came from among wealthy business people and merchants. This is partially why they thought so highly of themselves, because of their great financial network. The only significant thing to the Pharisees was their oral law, the Law of Moses and the law of the Sabbath and how their rules and standards were being kept. They wanted the rest of the Jewish community to live by a strict code of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Malintzins Choices Essay Nick Schweitzer Malintzin s Choices Malintzin had an important role in the ancient history and colonization of Latin America. She would rise from just a simple servant girl and slave, to become one of the key factors of the Spanish colonization of the indigenous natives in the New World. She helped translate for the Spanish conquistadors and even Hernando Cortés himself. Malintzin s interpreting skills would prove crucial in the dealings between Hernando Cortés and the Aztec emperor Montezuma. Camilla Townsend uses the story of Malintzin to display the conquest of Mexico in a different aspect and first person point of view. It is crucial to focus on translators when it comes to understanding the conquest of Mexico. It shows how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author depicts Malintzin as a subjugation of Cortés. Malintzin used her position to help herself. She was given away as a slave at a young age. For someone like her this was her only way to escape poverty and make sure she was cared for by the Spanish. She used her skills to obtain a better life than the other 19 slaves who had been given to Cortés. She was loyal to Cortés because the Spanish had finally given her a position of power that she had never had before with the natives. She did so only to remind her purported masters of her loyalty (82). She was very loyal to Cortés and in fact loved him as she birthed his first son Martin Cortés. Both Malintzin and the Spanish benefited from Malintzin s choices. Later on the Tlaxcala would benefit too. Initially the Tlaxcala s and the Spanish were enemies, but eventually with the help of Malintzin they were able to form an alliance in order to fight the Aztecs. For having arranged with the Tlaxcalans to provide military reinforcements (perhaps as many as five thousand) (79). With the aid of the Tlaxcala the Spanish where able to press on forward toward Tenochtitlan. Even though their first attack didn t end up so well they still kept an alliance due to Malintzin that would later prove useful. Later after the Spanish conquests, they keep their word and they didn t destroy Tlaxcala along with the majority of other native settlements. The author described the ... • 6. Importance Of Good Manners Essay Manners, we hear about then every day, at home, at work, from our parents, and peers but do we really recognize the importance of good manners? Manners are respectful actions that make an ordinary man a gentleman. Good manners and courtesies are one of the most valuable facets of society. They make a man a useful member of the world, making one functional in both their professional life and personal life by helping us to win the favor and confidence of others. In order to have progress in life, good manners are essential. On the other hand, an ill mannered man is generally shunned by everyone and has no chance of success in any walk of life he pursues. In today s society, proper etiquette and good manners are almost nonexistent in some parts of the country and we have to ask ourselves why this is. Why do people lack the basic etiquette that is essential to living a professional and respectful life? The answer is that people are uneducated on these topics. The fact is most parents don t do a good enough job building good etiquette habits in their children and there is absolutely no requirement for the skills in the school systems. They may be enforced but they are in no form taught in a formal classroom setting. In order to improve our society and educate people of these essential etiquettes we must implement proper etiquette and life skills classes in the youth school systems. Family household dynamics are drastically different in today s society. According to the California ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Benefits Of A Solid Waste Beginning on October 20, I started carefully assessing my daily routine and documenting my activities in regards to my production of solid waste, carbon emissions, and use of fresh water. During those two weeks, I collected data and examined how I could help reduce my overall ecological footprint and use of environmental resources through propositions, research, and online calculations. Solid Waste Current Routine: During the week, I begin my day by walking to Mean Greens cafeteria for breakfast. I am provided with the dishes for my meal, which are all reusable and therefore I do not contribute any waste in regards to those. I do however use multiple napkins during my meals. Often, I threw away all the napkins I took, including the ones I did not use. I only used two of the five napkins I got every meal. I also left food scraps on my plate, which were thrown away and contributed to compost solid waste. I also go to Mean Greens cafeteria for lunch and dinner and have similar habits when it comes to how much solid waste I produce during those meals. On average during one week I throw out 30 napkins and an estimate of two pounds of food. Under circumstances where I cannot make it to the cafeteria to eat and I need quick and easy access to food, I get fries from Chik Fil A. This usually happens twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays before my environmental science class. I get two large fries in a to go bag, which are all thrown away after I am done eating. • 8. The Legacy Of Ted Bundy Theodore Robert Cowell, more notoriously known as Ted Bundy, was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 24, 1946. Bundy was raised by his grandparents for the first three years of his life in order to avoid public disgrace from their community due to the fact that Bundy s mother had him out of wedlock. As a young boy, Bundy was under the notion, along with the community around him, that his grandparents were his parents and his mother was his older sister. At the age of four, his mother left with Bundy to live in Philadelphia and there met her new husband, Johnny Bundy. Together, they resulted in conceiving four children and despite the fact that Johnny Bundy had adopted him; he continued to stay secluded from the rest of the family. His childhood overall is controversial; in interviews, Bundy described his grandparents as respectful and was very attached to his grandfather. Later on, it was revealed to attorneys by other family members and himself that Bundy s grandfather, Samuel Cowell, was a domineering and prejudice person. Different reports from beating his wife and the family dog to pushing Bundy s aunt down a flight of stairs were claimed to have happened. His grandmother however, was described by Bundy as being humble and loyal who went through therapy for depression. Bundy started exhibiting his abnormal behavior at a young age, reports from his aunt stating she woke up from a nap to discover she was surrounded by knives and a three year old Bundy was standing over ... • 9. Essay on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas Frederick Douglas, a slave born in Tuckahoe Maryland, was half white and half black. His mother was a black woman and his father a white man. Though he never knew his father, there was word that it was his master. Douglas wrote this narrative and I felt that it was very compelling. It really showed me the trials and tribulations that a black man went through during times of slavery. In his early years, Douglas lived on a farm where he watched many slaves receive harsh beatings and whippings. For example, one of his masters whipped his Aunt Hester because she was not there when he desired her presence. At the time she was in the company of another man, which was something that Colonel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hopkins, and Mr. Austin Gore were all cruel overseers. An exception to this was Mr. Hopkins, who was not a typical overseer. Unlike the others, he did not curse a lot, and bent the rules every now and then. He was called by the slaves a good overseer (p. 7). The typical overseer would have beat a slave the second he stepped out of line. For example, Mr. Gore, who took Mr. Hopkins place was very cruel and would not take any sort of talking back. He would not communicate with any of the slaves except for giving orders and beating them. He was, in a word, a man of the most inflexible firmness and stone like coolness (p. 13). There were also those white people who encouraged black people to escape, and them catch them to receive rewards. Slaves could not catch any breaks. On the other hand, there were some good whites. Douglas wanted to learn how to read, so he made friends with some little white boys on the street. Douglas spoke of running errands, and stopping in with the white children to learn to read in his spare time. As a symbol of his gratitude, Douglas would give the children bread to eat. They, in fact, had a discussion about slavery at one point. He told the children, You ll be free as soon as you re twenty one, but I m a slave for life! • 10. Origin of Mass of Subatomic Particles Essay This past October of 2013, François Englert and Peter W. Higgs were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Physics for 2013. For the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles, and which recently was confirmed through the discovery of the predicted fundamental particle, by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN s Large Hadron Collider . Both Englert and Higgs proposed the theory of how particles acquire mass. It was 1964 when both men proposed this theory independently. It wasn t until the year 2012, that both men had their ideas confirmed by discovery of the Higgs Boson particle (particle responsible for giving mass to objects) at the CERN laboratory in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These forces work over different ranges and have different strengths. That is to say, Gravity is the weakest; the electromagnetic force has infinite range but is much stronger than gravity. Three of the fundamental forces result from the exchange of force carrier particles; these belong to a group of particles called bosons. Particles of matter transfer discrete amounts of energy by exchanging bosons with each other (CERN). Each fundamental force has its own corresponding boson the strong force is carried by the gluon, the electromagnetic force is carried by the photon, and the W and Z bosons coincide with the weak force (CERN). That is to say, The Standard Model includes the electromagnetic, strong and weak forces and all their carrier particles. This new particle was somewhat consistent with the Higgs boson, but it will take more research to actually determine if it is the same Higgs boson predicted by the original Standard Model. Being that protons are filled with subatomic particles like quarks, antiquarks, and gluons they rarely pass or collide with each other. That is to say, at a mass of about 125 GeV, the Higgs boson particle turned out to be approximately one hundred times heavier than a proton. The Higgs boson particle showed that particles due have mass. This played a unique role in the Standard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under the administration of Hoover and Roosevelt, Americans demanded government intervention for relief but were let down. On October 24, 1929, also known as Black Thursday , the rise in stock prices faltered losing half of their value in a single day. When it fell, investors began to sell their stocks. Between 1929 and 1932, the stock market value dropped 75%. Banks and other businesses suffered heavy losses. Layoffs and cutbacks lowered purchasing, so fewer people bought cars and appliances. By 1932, unemployment went up to 25 percent. The reason for the Great Depression is that the U.S. factories produced more than what could be consumed. Particles Lab Pressure vs. Number of Particles Lab Report Introduction: The experiment deals with many different parts and one of them is gas, a substance that moves freel through the air and their particles are stread farther away from each other when compared to the other states of matter. The difference between the states of matter are how close the particles are to each other. The experiment was completed to find how pressure affects the number of particles. Pressure, which is the force exerted on an object by physical contact, was used to apply force into the pressure sensor. A pressure sensor measures the amount of force can object has and this will tell us how the pressure is affecting the number of particles. Also the volume, of the pressure ... First off, iron is excreted from the body mainly via bile and the intestinal absorption system. In this experiment, rapid changes in zinc content in the tissue were not observed, even in the dose groups up to 1.2 ml / kg. This suggests that pancreatic fluid effectively excreted zinc when the dose of TE 5 was 1.2 ml / kg or lower. The liver plays a central role in copper homeostasis and can be said to be the most important organ involved in storage, blood transport, protein ceruloplasmin production, and bile duct excretion. (17, 18, 19) Also, in this experiment, no significant increase in the copper content in the liver was observed, even in the 1.2 dose group (30 times adult regular dose) This is because copper is excreted in the bile duct and does not get reabsorbed like iron. Excreted copper does not return to the liver. Also, in the 4 dose group (100 times the adult regular dose) a marked rise in copper content was observed in the liver, spleen, kidney, and tibia, probably because at this dose, copper homeostasis failed. Even though they had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and mysterious. They both approached modern dance through a different eye. Even if they lived in two different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history. ... One of the works that basically describes Wigman as a whole is the Witches Dance Its a burlesque play of bodies, limbs, and heads. President Woodrow Wilson could not maintain neutrality after a series of events that threatened the interests of the US. Wilson knew that he would not have the support of a diverse American public upon entering the war, so he came up with a plan. He designed the Committee on Public Information to advertise pro war propaganda. He needed to convince the people that an involvement in the war was needed to make the world safe for democracy . Propaganda was heavily used to mobilize the public opinion of a united war effort, and it was also an attempt on homogenizing a pluralistic nation. The positive effects of this use were it unified a heterogeneous society, and it was able to get the Americans to invest their time and effort on the war. The negative effects of this were it caused hatred to those who were of the enemies ancestry, and false advertising lead to a loss of many innocent lives. Moreover, workplace initiatives is another strategy that the USA has taken to deal with cocaine use in the country. Many drug users are employed people who have the money to buy these hard drugs. Therefore, workplace initiatives help sensitizing employees on the negative effects of cocaine use and the laws concerning drug use so that they are aware of the consequences. The mission of this squadron is to conduct operational test and evaluation of new acquired weapon systems, support systems, and aircraft for the U.S. Navy. In interfacing with mission systems and fleet introduction, Air and Test Evaluation Squadron One does it first. In the acquisition phase, the navy has several initial and developmental test and evaluation squadrons; however, these squadron use contract and government maintenance and flight personnel to conduct primary and subsequent examination and analysis of newly acquired systems in a controlled environment. After completion of initial and developmental test, the weapon systems, support systems, and aircraft are forwarded for operational test and evaluation. Rather, in humility value other above yourselves, not looking to your own interest but each of you to the interest of the others (Philippians 2:3 4, NIV). • 32. The Negative Effects Of Video Games Introduction Most of the research done on video games tends to be done on the possible negative effects associated with the medium. From aggression and violence to the connection to mood disorders, video games tend to get a bad reputation. However, there are studies that have been done about the possible positive effects of games as well. There are definitely fewer positive studies than negative, but they are out there for those who search them out. The study that was used by Kendall Ashley in her article How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety , was not one of those studies. News Article Purpose and Study Fit (250) The news article by Kendall Ashley, How Videogames Can Help with Depression and Anxiety , claimed exactly as its title suggests. The article went into how different types of games, such as MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games), puzzle games, and games based on depression supposedly assisted with anxiety and depression. I went into reading this article favorably, as someone who both enjoys video games and as someone who is diagnosed with anxiety. However, after comparing what the study said with what the article presented it as, I found myself disappointed. Ashley either did not understand what the study said or just named dropped the study to make her article seem more valid. Most of the time when Ashley claims that Studies show that... she is either referring to an uncited study, or straight out lying about the content of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Comparison Of My Math Strengths And Weaknesses My Math Strengths and Weaknesses As I am approaching the end of my educational career, it is time for me to evaluate how well I will do teaching a subject I struggled in elementary school, math. Math is a subject I had a love hate relationship with. I liked it when I was good and hated it when I struggled. I noticed this pattern not only because of my abilities, but also of my teacher s abilities to teach the subject. My goal is not to be a genius in math but I do want to be able to help and problem solve when my students have a struggle. From kindergarten to the beginning of 1st grade, the math topic that is worked on is addition and subtraction. According to the Texas Education Association, in kindergarten adding and subtraction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... TEA say that students start doing repeated addition toward the end of second grade to help them transition to multiplication in third grade (TEA, 2012). When I was in school I struggled in multiplication, but I did not give up. What helped me get better was practice until I was able to master each multiplication term. With the takeover of calculators, I became rusty, but in order to teach my students, I will have to practice again just like when I was in elementary school. I also have to be ready to take a step back and go over addition although the TEKS says to move on to multiplication. I excel in shapes, and for elementary, shapes are taught all through out. In first grade the focus is to identify and classifying 2 dimension shapes. In second grade they move on to composing their own 2 dimensional figure and classify 3 dimensional figures. (TEA, 2017.) For students just starting to see shapes only know square and rectangle. There are far more variations of this common shapes like parallelograms, and they might get confused. What I will do to prepare myself to teach these students is create vocabulary in my mind that is at their level. This way I can further explain the formal definition if there is any confusion. We all struggle with word problems, but since I am going to be a teacher I don t have to be perfect but I do need to have a sense of problem solving. What I would do to help me teach word problems is work it out with them. That way I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. A Position Within The Political Communications Field 1. Introduction: This paper will focus on a position within the Political Communications field. Political Communications is a sub field incorporating both political science and communications disciplines; dealing with the production, and distribution of effects of information, both through the use of media interpersonally and within a political context (Norris, 2004). The process operates downwards from governing institutions towards citizens, horizontally in connection among different political actors, and also upwards from general public opinion towards authoritative figures (Norris, 2004). For the sake of this paper, there will be a particular focus on the position of Director of Communications held by Steve Kee at the Insurance Bureau of Canada. 2. Background: Established in 1964, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (also known as the IBC) is the leading national industry organization representing Canada s private home, auto and business insurance (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). The IBC has worked on a number of fronts, by means of increasing public understanding of the different divisions of insurance (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). Its goal is to make communities, both small and large, safer, while championing issues directly affecting Canadians (Insurance Bureau of Canada, 2016). As of 1997, the merging of both the Insurance Bureau of Canada and the Insurance Crime Prevention Bureau of Canada resulted in the drastic restricting of the organization (Lobby ... • 35. How Does Myrtle Wilson Use Deception In The Great Gatsby them both as well as her denial reveals to the reader that her deception is rooted from her dishonour. Ultimately, Daisy was always going to be drawn to Tom as he had been from a wealthy heritage and lives in East egg in an upmarket residence, unlike Gatsby who was of new money and lived in West egg. Daisy was superficial and money was her driving force and priority, even her voice is full of money. She had been everywhere and seen everything and done everything but she was unaware that money does not bring contentment. This statement reflects the easy mobility of her lifestyle and those of the higher class. She would still give Gatsby false hope you know I love you as his rise in wealth was appealing and could be of a benefit to her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Daisy, Myrtle was passionate about her husband at first, but the marriage has since been at breaking point. While Daisy doesn t have any real desire to leave Tom, Myrtle is eager to leave, and very dismissive of her husband I never was any more crazy about him than I was about that man there. She makes it clear she thinks she is finally heading for bigger and better things as he wasn t fit to lick her shoe. A glimpse of the world of wealth was enough to turn her head and create a new artificial women. In Chapter two, her appeal to wealth is shown further with the influence of the dress her personality had also undergone a change. She is trying to become something that she ultimately is not. Rather than face their problems as a couple, the Wilsons strive for dominance and supremacy within the marriage. While George wants to move out west, he doesn t have the money, leaving him and Myrtle in the valley of ashes and vulnerable to the dangers of the society at the time. The ashes could symbolise their troubled relationship that they cannot see an escape from. Their downfall is their unsteadiness within their marriage which stems from their financial situation. Fitzgerald is showing that those who are not wealthy and are of lower classes are much more vulnerable to tragedy, which in the end is Myrtles death. George Wilson is more humble than his wife. He seems to be satisfied and happy with his life until he discovers that his wife is having an affair and being dishonest. His character is comparable with Gatsby as both are dreamers and are ruined by their unrequited love. Fitzgerald leads us to perceive the illusion that George is submissive allowing people take advantage of him. However, another side of him is revealed after he murders Jay Gatsby. Nonetheless, unlike the other characters he cannot live with or hide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Political Humor And Satire In The Show Black-Ish The show Black ish displays political humor and satire by using concepts such as confrontation, and discursive integration. Throughout this paper, I will be explaining how Black ish displays these concepts, as well as proving that this text can be considered politically humorous and satirical. I will be taking examples from the texts Entertaining the Citizen and the article Let Us Infotain You, as well as the show Black ish itself to help clearly provide evidence that shows that show Black ish contains satire. Black ish is a sitcom about a higher middle class African American family who lives in a suburban neighborhood in California. The father is Andre also known as Dre Johnson who is an executive at an Advertisement company. The mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black ish Is a comedy show but at times it shows clips or images that are not more news like and informative to the viewers. To show how Black ish I will be discussing one of the episodes of the show from season three in comparison with the article Let Us Infotain You. In the episode 40 Acres and a Vote it used discursive integration. At the beginning, Andre had a slide playing sad music with images of the Obama family on it. He then goes into a discussion speaking about how Barrack Obama wasn t just important because he was the first black president, but because of he gave a hand in showing African Americans that their votes not only were important, but they counted. There then was a dramatization showing the process African Americans went through and the abuses they experienced just to get to a place that showed their votes meant something. The reason why I believe that this is a good example of the concept of discursive integration because although Black ish is a comedy sitcom, it speaks on real life news situations that are happening currently. In the article Let Us Infotain You the author s states, The blurring between news and entertainment is exemplified by the fact that the National Enquirer s own reputation had been enhanced and begrudgingly acknowledged by members of the mainstream press because of its reporting during the O.
