This document provides guidelines for an internship in the apparel industry. It outlines key areas of focus in sample making, pattern making, cutting, sewing, finishing, printing/embroidery, and merchandising. For each area, it lists important processes, equipment, documentation, quality control measures, and potential issues to study. The goal is for interns to gain a comprehensive understanding of garment production from pattern design through shipment by observing operations and analyzing related documentation, reports, and samples across the different sections of the apparel factory.

1. Guideline for Internee students
Garments/Apparel
❖ Sample section &Pattern section:
• Follow a particular sample making deeply ( from pattern to sample making )
• What steps are taken for different Types of sample for different buyer ;
• Machine used in sample section
• Software used for marker making
• Pattern and marker making by CAD
• How different types of allowance ( sewing allowance , shrinkage allowance ,
cutting allowance ) etc are assumed in pattern making
• How shrinkage is assumed for different types of fabric ?
• Way of making pattern if there is any matching requirements (stripe matching
vertically , horizontally or both ways ).
❖ Cutting section :
• Cutting floor lay out
• Cutting Production flow chart with man power breakdown
• Cutting flow lay out
• What is relaxation time and why it is necessary ? Fabric relaxation time based on
fabric types .
• Relation between G.S.M vs lay height.
• Machine used in cutting section with their parts and function.
• Methods of cutting for different types of fabric By cutting
• Cutting for engineering stripe , feeder stripe and all over printed fabric
• How cutting is done if there is any matching requirements (stripe matching
vertically , horizontally or both ways ).
• Defects in cutting section
• How cutting is managed if there are variations of shade ?
• Detail study on wastages ( types of wastages and reasons ) in cutting
• How packing ratio is maintained in cutting
• How numbering and bundling are done .
• What is marker, marker efficiency, marker consumption, fabric consumption
• Introducing with fabric and sample collection .

2. ❖ Sewing section( Production , IE, work study):
• Sewing floor lay out
• How production target is set per day and per hour ?
• How production lay out is prepared with required machines and man power to
meet shipment / delivery date ?
• Follow the production of different sewing lines with respective production lay out
and operation bulletin
• Machines used in sewing section with their parts , brand and usage
• Maintenances of machine – regular and periodic maintenance
• Causes of machines and equipments breakdown
• Folders and guides used in sewing machines
• Study a production report and compare it with target . Find reasons for not
fulfilling the target
• Sewing faults analysis ( reasons and remedies) , in line inspection , on line
inspection , how operators sewing quality is ensured ?
• Compare performance between lines and between floors .
• What is S.M.V , Efficiency , performance , achievement , bottle neck point, WIP ,
capacity, SPI , DHU and how it is calculate
• Study at lest 2/3 basic items S.M.V with operation bulletin and capacity study of
it.
• Collect different types of stitch and sewing faults sample
❖ Finishing Section :
• Finishing floor lay out
• Production flow chart of finishing section with man power break down
• Machine and chemical used in finishing section
• Difference between trims and accessories and collect sample
• How packaging is done for ratio packaging as per size and color.
• Follow types of assortment ( solid size solid color , assort color solid size, assort
color assort size , solid color assort size and how it is maintained ?
• Detail study on finishing faults ( types , reasons & remedies ).

• Printing / Embroidery floor lay out

• Cost assessment of print/ embroidery with no of stitches , no of colors and
machine running time .

• How to prepare appliqué in the embroidery .
• How to prepare frame and screen for printing
• Defects in Printing / Embroidery section
• Types of Printing / Embroidery
• Sample collection
❖ Merchandising Section:
• Documents used in merchandising section
• What is T&A , observed it deeply
• Analyze a costing sheet
• Follow different approvals taken from buyers by a merchandiser
• How a merchandiser keeps follow-up with booking to shipment with production
for knitting , dyeing , garments and finishing ?
• How fabrics and different accessories booking are done by merchandiser
• Observe different garments , accessories and fabric testing report .
• Follow how merchandisers keep communication with buyers and factory people ,
what problems they face and how they solve these .
• Collect different fabrics and accessories suppliers information from merchandising
section
• Read different buyers manual .
