This document discusses improving productivity in the textile sector. It describes how productivity is calculated as total output per person per working hour. The author's goal is to gain more knowledge on productivity improvement techniques through higher education, so they can implement what they learn in China to develop their home country's textile sector. Specifically, the author focuses on reducing excess motions to improve productivity. As an example, changing a garment cutting layout reduced excess motions by 13% and increased productivity. The author has implemented various techniques in their current job to increase printing table efficiency and production output.
Boost Textile Productivity Through Process Improvement
1. PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT IN TEXTILE SECTOR
Introduction :
The efficiency of a person or machine or an industry is convert inputs into
useful output is named as productivity . Productivity is calculated by the
output ( Production ) of per person in a particular period . That’s mean ,
Productivity = total output / man power / working hour.
As example
For garments sewing section , If total production is 2000 pcs / day in 10
hours and no of man power used is 29. Then productivity will be ,
2000/29/10 = 6.89. If we get more 100 pcs production by using same man
power ant time , then productivity will be , 2100/29/10 = 7.24.
In a garments or textile industry it must necessary to increase their
productivity so that they can get more profit by using same man power in
same time .
My ambition:
According to my 2 years job experience I understood that productivity
improvement is most important for textile industry . That’s why I want to
take higher education so that I can gather more and more knowledge about
productivity improvement . In textile sector , China is in number one position
. So that my aim is after higher education I will involve myself there and
gather practical knowledge about productivity . So that I can implement all of
those knowledge in my country and develop my textile sector .
Objects :
Productivity is directly related to motion. Much motion is the fact to less
productivity and less motion is fact to more productivity . To get more
productivity I focused on motion . Like , when I changed cutting production
2. flow , I observed that worker are using excess motion . So that they took
much time than standard. Before changing lay out, at first I motivated them
about their excess motion . I advised them to make habit for reduce motion.
After a certain period they did that and realized that excess motion is
responsible for their physical fatigue . when they apply my method
continuously then I through my main plan that is changing lay out . Now they
are habituated about new method .As a result they can produced more
production by same time . That’s mean productivity increased. I think in your
country there have many method like this to improve productivity which is
totally unknown to me and also out country.
What I did in my job carrier :
I have around 2 years job experience in garments sector . Now I am working
at Turag Garments & Hosiery Mills Ltd. As IE executive and Asst. Manager
( Acting ) of garments cutting section . In this factory my senior manager
give me opportunity to something innovative . He use me in printing section,
sewing section, finishing section and also cutting section . In printing section
, there ware no body to developed or do something innovative . When I took
charge for printing I got some plan to
Increase productivity
Increase Table efficiency
SMV based target
Reduce excess process
Reduce basic process time.
By the help of almighty Allah , I successfully complete my vision in printing
section . Here I want to give only one example of my activity .
Our printing ( screen Printing) table was 60 feet’s long for production . Most
of the time printing feet from each side ( 2 Feet’s from both )ware use for
storage of printing materials. I thought that if I can manage alternative
storage for those materials , we can consume those 2 feet’s where we can get
at lest 4 garments for printing . Do you know how ? It’s a simple case . just
3. insert 2 ( both side ) small partex board under the table . Easily I saved 2
feet’s for production . By saving this , we can get more 4 pcs production per
printing . If we can print 20 times print per day then we can get = 20*4 or 80
pcs production per table . Our printing table ware 17. That’s mean I become
able to produce 17*80 = 1360 Pcs production per day by using this method .

4. Also In cutting section I get new plan . One of this is reduce excess motion .
To get success in cutting, I had to change cutting production lay out . After
change lay out of production flow we became able to reduce 13% access
motion .
Figure: Implementation of new process in cutting section .
Conclusion:
As a Textile engineer I am strongly concentrated to developed my working
station by implement more and more new thinking / theory / method which
will must be profitable for my organization and as well as my country .
Thanks in advanced
