The magazine advertisement for Green Day's 2004 album "American Idiot" uses a simple color scheme of black, white, and red to make the text and image stand out. It features only the band's name and album title in the band's own font in the top left corner to draw the eye and maintain an air of mystery. The sole image is of a hand holding a heart-shaped grenade, representing a song about holding one's heart "like a hand grenade." Using the same design as the album cover creates synergy between the advert and album, making the album easily recognizable to potential buyers.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. Green Day – American Idiot
Magazine Advert Analysis
2.
3. Green Day – American Idiot, 7th
album released in 2004
The advert for American Idiot is very simplistic and has a very basic colour
scheme. It only uses black, white and red which are three of the main colours
with connotations to the rock genre. By having a black background, it help to
make the text and the mage stand out more and creates a bold image which the
audience is likely to take notice of. It also highlights the use of the white and red
which makes it much more interesting to look at due to the limited colour
scheme being used in an effective and interesting way. This colour scheme also
gives connotations of the band being dark and mysterious, two characteristics
which are conventions of the rock genre.
The text included on the poster is very limited
and does not give much information about the
album – only including the band name and the
album title. Through doing this, it keep with the
image of being mysterious as they are giving
away little to no information about the album,
which keeps to the conventions of the rock
genre. The text is placed and aligned to the top
left of the advert so it is more likely to catch the
audiences eye and encourage them to read it.
This is because the human eye generally
reads from the top to the bottom and from left
to right which makes the top left the most
appropriate placement for the text. This is
especially the case here as there is very little
text included so they will want people to notice
the text and take it in.
The font is the same throughout all of the
pieces of text and it is the bands own font. This
creates a relationship and a sense of synergy
between the advert, the band and other
albums that they have released due to them all
having a very similar font throughout the
products. It is also easily recognisable to fans
of the band as well as they will recognise the
font from other products that they have
released so are more likely to look at the
advert due to recognising the band. The band
name has been done in capitals which makes
it stand out as the most important part and
works as a marketing technique as the band
name is the most recognisable part of the
advert.
The only image included on the poster is of a
hand holding a grenade in the shape of a heart.
This has been designed to represent one of the
songs included in the album – “She’s a Rebel” –
with the line “She’s holding on my heart like a
hand grenade”. By doing this, they have made it
meaningful to fans of the band who have heard
the song. The image can also be representative of
how the band are very patriotic toward America
but do not like how the country is changing into
something unrecognisable that they do not want to
be a part of. This is a common theme within the
rock genre where they go against the majority and
do not want the same as everyone else.
The advert design is exactly the same as the album cover which creates a
sense of synergy between each of the different products included in the release
of this album. It also makes the album easily recognisable because, when
people go to a shop and see the album, they will recognise it from the advert
and want to buy it. Therefore, using the same layout and image as the album
for the advert works well as a marketing technique as the audience is more
likely to recognise the album and buy it. This is instead of seeing the advert and
then having to remember all of the information about it.
