15385-LESSON PLAN- 7TH - SS-Insian Constitution an Introduction.pdf
Digipak advertisment
1.
2. The name of the band is placed centrally at the top of the
poster as the masthead and becomes its main focus. An
audience viewing this poster would identify with this as
they are likely to be fans or have heard/seen the band
through other similar music also featured in the
magazine. This makes the advertisement recognisable to
the target audience. The use of the bands own font also
helps do this as it would quickly entice and catch a
devoted audiences attention.
The boldness of the red with the white outline helps the
title to stand out further. The red could also connote
danger suggesting that their new studio album is daring
and a dangerous listen. However, the use of the well
known font implies it is still the same band and that their
music hasn’t changed. The white outline contrasts the
dark background making the masthead ‘pop’.
The main image on the advertisement would also be
recognisable for fans. This is because it is a similar style
of art as the bands former albums; depicting monsters,
death, blood, darkness and gore. The grotesque image
could shock an audience into getting their attention.
The image itself is significant as the monster holds the
bands logo in its left hand. This again connotes the idea
of the continuity of the bands music and image and
makes it recognisable for fans. Synergy is also used
effectively as the cover or advertisement has a
space/futuristic theme matched with phrases like “LIFT
OFF” and “FINAL”. The colours of the advertisement
also compliment each other and add to the gothic
theme whilst standing out and conveying a vibrant
atmosphere.
“THE FINAL FRONTIER” contrasts the dark
background as it stands in a prominent yellow
with a distinguishable font to the rest making it
stand out from other text connoting its
importance. The audience is told what is being
advertised , “NEW STUDIO ALBUM”, so there is
no enigma. Certain songs are also advertised to
entice an audience as they may have already
heard these songs. This would make them
curious if the other material on the album is
similar and would therefore be more likely to
purchase the album.
The advertisement also has a sub image of the
digipak itself which would attract readers to
purchasing it. It also shows what they would be
buying and gives them an insight to the material.
More serious fans may become more attracted to
the new album through the smaller print which is
institutional information. This would tell them
who is producing the record and any additional
info like tours and special editions.
Tour information is also included at the bottom of
the advertisement informing fans of venues and
dates. This is again in a much smaller print size so
it doesn’t distract from the main purpose of the
advert. However, this further promotes the band.
The bands website is also featured here to again
promote the band to less serious fans. The
smaller font suggests it is less important than the
advertisement of the digipack itself.
3. “THE WAIT IS FINALLY OVER” instantly grabs an
audiences attention as it creates the enigma
that something unexpected is happening as
creates excitement among fans. The use of red
text also connote danger which compliments
the black background. This could suggest that
the events are shocking and somewhat
sudden. Under the strapline is the masthead
which is the bands name. This is in a larger font
to the rest connoting its importance.
The conventions of this advertisement are
typical of most others. The main image is
focused in the centre of the page, like that on
the Iron Maiden advertisement. Here however
the image is much more vibrant using primary
colours which stand prominent from the black
background. Furthermore, the image style
resembles the work of Banksy suggesting the
bands new material is also secretive and
unknown like the artist. The use of contrasting
colours help to make the advertisement more
noticeable and attract, not only a dedicated
audience, but a wider audience.
At the bottom of the advertisement in a smaller
print size is the advertisement of a song on the
album. This could be one already pre-released.
This created the enigma to want to know what
others are likely to be on the release. This also
attracts a serious audience as they are likely to
have favorited this single and be waiting for
more.
All text on the advertisement is consistent. This
is symbolic of graffiti style compliments the
main image. The colour scheme also
compliments the theme as it connotes hotness
and danger. This suggests that the release of
the album will be almost explosive and will
cause huge reaction. Red is also associated with
hell and death connoting the severity of the
albums impact on fans and the type of material
being released.
At the very bottom of the advertisement the
bands website is featured. The further
advertises the band for newer fans. It also
suggests there is more information about the
album release and could be other info like tours.
This also makes the band more accessible for
dedicated and newer fans and allows them to
keep up with new news.
By telling an audience when the release is and
how to get access to it helps easily advertise to
all. “CD & DOWNLOAD OUT 15TH MAY” is also
written in a larger font similar to the strapline.
Both entice an audience with buzz words like
“FINALLY” as if a long wait is coming to a end.
The font size of both connote their importance
on the advertisement and dominate room on
the poster.
4. The text on this advertisement is effectively clear.
This is because it is all in large, bold white block
capitals which contrasts the dark black/grey
background. “KASABIAN” is the largest text on
the advert connoting its importance. This makes
it clear from an audience to distinguish who is
being advertised. The masthead is the main
advertising tool which will quickly entice an
audience of both new and serious fans. The
artwork is simplistic as the white is a sharp
contrast to the black. This makes it appealing to
an audience as it is easy to gain the important
info.
The information on the advertisement is easy to
distinguish. This makes it quick for an audience to
gain what the advert is conveying. The main image
also compliments this simplistic idea as it
resembles a shadow figure which is centre screen.
This is appealing to an audiences eye as it is basic
and not ‘messy’.
The artwork is also consistent of that on the digipak
thus making it relatively easy for an audience to
then go and find the album. The synergy here
follows the rock/metal conventions as most
advertisements use the artwork to advertise the
album. This would usually entice a specific audience
who are likely to be used to the artwork displayed.
At the bottom of the advertisement it shows
where an dhow to access the digipak. This is
similar to the other two advertisements I have
analysed. By doing this is gives the audience extra
information that might interest them further. Here
it states “CD/LIMITED EDITION”. For more serious
fans, adding this extra information about further
releases would entice them to buy more as it
would open more chances to get closer and be
more dedicated to the band. The advertisement
also says “INCLUDES THE SINGLE” which is also
something common for these advertisements.
Again this creates an enigma making the audience
wonder what other songs are included and if the
new material is as good as these.
Under the masthead is the website
“KASABIAN.CO.UK”. As it is under the masthead it
will be easily seen and implies it also holds
importance. This also connotes there will be
further news and info about the new album on the
website for fans to go and view. This further
advertises the band to newer fans as they would
be likely to go to the website and research the
band finding new material.
Buzz words like “DEBUT” also gains attention from
serious audiences as they will be excited to hear
new music by the band. This also entices a newer
audience as they might become curious about the
bands sound thus download/buy the digipak.
5. After analysing these three digipak advertisements there are certain conventions I will need to follow. The first two
use vibrant colours to gain the attention of an audience from first look. The artwork will also do this as it
compliments the artist/band style. This is also the same work on the digipaks themselves relating the
advertisement directly to the band and their fans. The Band name is also the masthead with buzz words
surrounding it like “DEBUT” and “FINAL”. This makes the band easily and quickly recognisable for fans and also
creates enigmas about the new material. The band name is usually in a font similar to the bands other artwork to
keep it consistent to other work. There is also extra information for serious and dedicated fans directing them to
where they can find the new music. This is either done through having it written on the advertisement or by
directing fans to the bands website. By following these conventions It will make my advertisement more effective
and successful in attracting a target audience.
