DESIGNS COMPARE & CONTRAST PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS
For my promotional products I designed
stickers which have a similar style to the
stickers made for the App Store game Angry
Birds. They both utilize the characters from the
game as well as using the games title as a
simple sticker design.
For my In-direct design idea and App Store
icon I have used the correct conventions of an
App Store icon’s, such as the correct shape
and designing it to attract viewers. The
similarities in both mine and the professional
design is how we both use drop shadows to
create a more balanced design. Both designs
also use a darker background bring out the
characters artwork.
For my direct advertising I have created some
web banners. I began the design by using the
correct sizes similar the many other web
banners which are posted on many different
sites. I have used parts of the game to design
the banners similar to the Titanfall web
banners. Similar to the Titanfall banner i have
used text and also game artwork.
DESIGNS FEEDBACK/ SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS
The graphics and detail are effective in the sense of portraying a cartoon styled figure and it hints to the theme and style of
the game which help to draw in fans and an audience. It has a childish feel to it, such as the simple and cartoon styled
artwork witch is also a positive due to the age rating of the game. The style of the sticker will help attract that part of the
target audience.
The use of a background colour in the sticker involving just the title of the game works well, it helps the bright white text
stand out further and become very eye catching . Most colours used in the design are bright and sharp such as the blue,
light grey’s and camel shades. Out of the three final designs the one of simply the character has a slightly darker finnish
which should be lighter to help the sticker stand out better. It would be better to use a lighter colour or shade of grey. You
have many different styles, however they do appear to follow a theme. This will make them more identifiable with your
brand. This is good for creating a solid marketing campaign. The designs themselves are very good, have a glossy professional
look to them. All in all a good set of stickers.
Great use of depth in the design, such as the use of drop shadows and shading to create a more composed piece of art.
Links well to the theme and genre of the game 'Ninja Rush' in the sense that there is use of character and elements from
the game, for example the image used contains the main character holding a weapon. This may give the viewer an idea of
what app they are purchasing or downloading. The image used of the character gives a strong view on his characteristics and
the facial expressions shows some attitude, this really helps build the theme of the game into the app icon using imagery.
The overall design effectively uses gradients and drop shadows which really help elevate the image as a whole. The little use
of colours may be boring but keeps the icon recognisable and relates it to the game.
The strong outline really bring the image out from the background of the app icon which create an eye catching design
great for being in the App Store. The simple use of colours also help as they do not complicate the design with too many
complex colours. The outline used for the image of the character is slightly to bold and over powers some of the detail in
the image.
The graphics used in the web banner look similar and link to the games graphics which really help visualise the games
imagery just by seeing the banner. The way is has been design shows a cartoon style effect on the artwork which works
well as it blends the artwork, typography and background together in a well composed way.The main layout links greatly
with to the game with the use of the games setting as a background. this help tease viewers of the banner into looking into
the games as it will give any viewer an idea of what the game is about. The text is nice and bright elevating it from the
background but still blending with other colours used throughout the design, which works well as it does not overpower the
design. The layout is well composed and has a structured design which is simple but has enough information included
without having a clustered look.
The background is very effective being from the original game but when used with other images it gets slightly to compact
and does not leave space for much text.
FEEDBACK - AMENDMENTS
On the left is a rough copy of my design. from
the feedback I received I realised what needed
to be changed or added to help improve my
design. On the right is my improved design.
- I added colour to the character as the
feedback mentioned how it had a plain
design with no eye catching features.
- The background was too plain and boring so
I added a slight pattern, not over powering
the character artwork but balancing out the
design.
FEEDBACK - AMENDMENTS
On the left is my initial design for one of the
promotional stickers.The feedback I gained
made me realise that the design was too dark
and it would be better to uses lighter and
brighter colours when designing my stickers,
too make them more eye catching and
viewable.
- I decided to use a white finnish instead of
grey to enhance the title.
- I incorporated a camel colour into the back
of the design which related slightly to the
colours used in the game and other
advertisement.
PHYSICAL MATERIALS SOFTWARE PERIPHERALS
- Pencil
- Pen
- Paper
I used this equipment to begin my
sketches and drafts for my initial ideas.
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
- Pages
I found it easy to create my design using
these applications as I am most familiar
with them, this made it easy to create my
designs.
- Printer
- Sticker paper
- Graphics tablet
The printer and paper was used to print
out the sticker designs so that we could
put them into use. I also used a graphics
tablet to draw out my design in
Photoshop.
Using these utensils I could begin my
design process which included sketching
out my initial drafts and design ideas. By
sketching them out I could then gain
feedback and begin to narrow down to a
final design.
Using Photoshop helped me create
effective designs for my App icon, web
banners and promotional stickers.
I could easily incorporate drop shadows,
patterns and different gradients to make
my relate my designs with the game as
much as possible.
Using a graphics tablet I could easily
transfer my sketched designs to a digital
version in Photoshop where I could then
use colours and different shades to create
a more developed design.
Printing out the stickers meant that I could
put the products into practice.
TARGET AUDIENCE/ FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
On the left is a web banner which is part of my direct
advertising. It fits with my specific target audience as the
design styles and artwork I have used are quite simple, easy
to read and also has a slight cartoon theme to it. My target
audience would recognise the web banners background to
be some sort of game without even reading the text, which is
another reason it would attract them. It also fits all the
correct conventions of a web banner including size and
layout.
TARGET AUDIENCE/ FITNESS FOR PURPOSE
On the right is a sticker design from my promotional
products. It has been designed to fit my target audience in
terms of its quirky styled design, its cartoon themed artwork
and also how when it is in use and put somewhere in public,
the target audience or any viewer will notice it as a character
of some sort.

Graphics Design Evaluation

  • 1. DESIGNS COMPARE & CONTRAST PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS For my promotional products I designed stickers which have a similar style to the stickers made for the App Store game Angry Birds. They both utilize the characters from the game as well as using the games title as a simple sticker design. For my In-direct design idea and App Store icon I have used the correct conventions of an App Store icon’s, such as the correct shape and designing it to attract viewers. The similarities in both mine and the professional design is how we both use drop shadows to create a more balanced design. Both designs also use a darker background bring out the characters artwork. For my direct advertising I have created some web banners. I began the design by using the correct sizes similar the many other web banners which are posted on many different sites. I have used parts of the game to design the banners similar to the Titanfall web banners. Similar to the Titanfall banner i have used text and also game artwork.
  • 2. DESIGNS FEEDBACK/ SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS The graphics and detail are effective in the sense of portraying a cartoon styled figure and it hints to the theme and style of the game which help to draw in fans and an audience. It has a childish feel to it, such as the simple and cartoon styled artwork witch is also a positive due to the age rating of the game. The style of the sticker will help attract that part of the target audience. The use of a background colour in the sticker involving just the title of the game works well, it helps the bright white text stand out further and become very eye catching . Most colours used in the design are bright and sharp such as the blue, light grey’s and camel shades. Out of the three final designs the one of simply the character has a slightly darker finnish which should be lighter to help the sticker stand out better. It would be better to use a lighter colour or shade of grey. You have many different styles, however they do appear to follow a theme. This will make them more identifiable with your brand. This is good for creating a solid marketing campaign. The designs themselves are very good, have a glossy professional look to them. All in all a good set of stickers. Great use of depth in the design, such as the use of drop shadows and shading to create a more composed piece of art. Links well to the theme and genre of the game 'Ninja Rush' in the sense that there is use of character and elements from the game, for example the image used contains the main character holding a weapon. This may give the viewer an idea of what app they are purchasing or downloading. The image used of the character gives a strong view on his characteristics and the facial expressions shows some attitude, this really helps build the theme of the game into the app icon using imagery. The overall design effectively uses gradients and drop shadows which really help elevate the image as a whole. The little use of colours may be boring but keeps the icon recognisable and relates it to the game. The strong outline really bring the image out from the background of the app icon which create an eye catching design great for being in the App Store. The simple use of colours also help as they do not complicate the design with too many complex colours. The outline used for the image of the character is slightly to bold and over powers some of the detail in the image. The graphics used in the web banner look similar and link to the games graphics which really help visualise the games imagery just by seeing the banner. The way is has been design shows a cartoon style effect on the artwork which works well as it blends the artwork, typography and background together in a well composed way.The main layout links greatly with to the game with the use of the games setting as a background. this help tease viewers of the banner into looking into the games as it will give any viewer an idea of what the game is about. The text is nice and bright elevating it from the background but still blending with other colours used throughout the design, which works well as it does not overpower the design. The layout is well composed and has a structured design which is simple but has enough information included without having a clustered look. The background is very effective being from the original game but when used with other images it gets slightly to compact and does not leave space for much text.
  • 3. FEEDBACK - AMENDMENTS On the left is a rough copy of my design. from the feedback I received I realised what needed to be changed or added to help improve my design. On the right is my improved design. - I added colour to the character as the feedback mentioned how it had a plain design with no eye catching features. - The background was too plain and boring so I added a slight pattern, not over powering the character artwork but balancing out the design. FEEDBACK - AMENDMENTS On the left is my initial design for one of the promotional stickers. The feedback I gained made me realise that the design was too dark and it would be better to uses lighter and brighter colours when designing my stickers, too make them more eye catching and viewable. - I decided to use a white finnish instead of grey to enhance the title. - I incorporated a camel colour into the back of the design which related slightly to the colours used in the game and other advertisement.
  • 4. PHYSICAL MATERIALS SOFTWARE PERIPHERALS - Pencil - Pen - Paper I used this equipment to begin my sketches and drafts for my initial ideas. - Adobe Photoshop - Adobe Illustrator - Pages I found it easy to create my design using these applications as I am most familiar with them, this made it easy to create my designs. - Printer - Sticker paper - Graphics tablet The printer and paper was used to print out the sticker designs so that we could put them into use. I also used a graphics tablet to draw out my design in Photoshop. Using these utensils I could begin my design process which included sketching out my initial drafts and design ideas. By sketching them out I could then gain feedback and begin to narrow down to a final design. Using Photoshop helped me create effective designs for my App icon, web banners and promotional stickers. I could easily incorporate drop shadows, patterns and different gradients to make my relate my designs with the game as much as possible. Using a graphics tablet I could easily transfer my sketched designs to a digital version in Photoshop where I could then use colours and different shades to create a more developed design. Printing out the stickers meant that I could put the products into practice.
  • 5. TARGET AUDIENCE/ FITNESS FOR PURPOSE On the left is a web banner which is part of my direct advertising. It fits with my specific target audience as the design styles and artwork I have used are quite simple, easy to read and also has a slight cartoon theme to it. My target audience would recognise the web banners background to be some sort of game without even reading the text, which is another reason it would attract them. It also fits all the correct conventions of a web banner including size and layout. TARGET AUDIENCE/ FITNESS FOR PURPOSE On the right is a sticker design from my promotional products. It has been designed to fit my target audience in terms of its quirky styled design, its cartoon themed artwork and also how when it is in use and put somewhere in public, the target audience or any viewer will notice it as a character of some sort.
