This document provides an evaluation of Jay Birkin's magazine production project. It summarizes the research, planning, and time management that went into the project. It also discusses the technical and aesthetic qualities of the finished magazine products. Peer feedback was positive about the variety of images and coverage of the entertainment genre as a whole. Suggested improvements focused on adding more information to the double page spread and potentially making the front cover more eye-catching with brighter colors. The student agrees that the double page could be improved and would make those changes if given more time.
The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve ThomasonSteve Thomason
What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
3. Research
• The research helped with the layout of my magazine because I had to get already
existing ones that were about the same topics as mine. The strengths of my
research was creating existing products pages, on these I did annotations on them
to understand why certain things are put on a magazines and why the audience is
attracted to them this helped me put similar touches on mine. I made all the
existing products pages similar magazines to how mine were going to be. The
research helped me decided what type of colour scheme I would be using, what
the layout of my magazine looks like and if too include any special features such as
a glow or stroke on certain text. . In research is where I decided my audience and
what they were going to be like to buy the products for example their age. I do not
think I could have changed anything to better my research it had everything
included in and more and it was extremely detailed and understanding so you
could see clearly where I was heading with this magazine.
4. Planning
My planning allowed me to generate different ideas so I could allow myself to decide
what to make for my final magazine front cover and double page spread. I started by
generating many ideas for the magazine using mind maps that went into detail about
specific things like what content it was going to include and what it was going to be
about I wasn’t going to carry some of the ideas through though. I got a collection of
images of magazines that were a similar style to what I wanted to create and then I
could see which ones I liked and which ones I didn’t, and some of the aspects of some
of the magazines I like I could somehow incorporate that idea into my magazine.
5. Time Management
• My time was managed very well. I was on time for every deadline and sometimes
finished my work before which gave me a bit of time to look at what I wrote and
check if it was good. I created a rough timetable before the production of what I
was going to do each day whilst making this unit. I stuck to this timetable building
each thing everyday and I finished all of my work on time. My work could have
been improved with more time of coarse. If I had more time I would have done
more work on productions by making my double page stand out more and maybe
create a couple more pages not just having one. I had more than enough time to
get everything on this project done the only thing I struggled with was this
evaluation PowerPoint I almost didn’t finish it in time for the deadline.
6. Technical Qualities
The darker colours are fine
as most movie or game
magazines include darker
colours for their front
cover.
The text is in a pixelated
font, I think this was a
good choice since it
relates to gaming. I think it
looks great and I wouldn't
change it.
Using a brand logo is
very imaginative. It is not
created by me however if
it was I do think that this
would work even better.
This again has its own style. The colours
suit great and the pixels suit the game
genre more. Mine would not be
colourful like the other one because
with it being darker in some areas it
draws your eyes to the brighter parts of
the magazine.
My double page spread is nothing like the layout plan
because I think putting a picture on one side is a waste of
space which could be utilised better to make the magazine
more interesting and exciting. Mines more unique than
others.
The double page has everything a
double page needs including all the
writing and pictures and it looks neat
in different boxes. The top of the
page looks creative because it clearly
shows the audience what its about
and it includes many aspects of the
entertainment genre/field.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
This page is much more darker than mine, the
darker colour relates to the genre more but this one
focuses on just one topic and also has much more
writing and an actual article so for mine I could have
at least included more writing and focused just on
one topic such as movies.
The layouts for the front
covers are very similar but
the existing one has much
more information on it and I
think this wouldn’t work on
a magazine because it
would be too cramped and
people just want to see the
image to be drawn in.
The colour
schemes for
both are the
complete
opposite.
I think that my work looks okay but I could make some improvements especially with the double
page by writing more for my article. I think that my magazine is very creative and unique, it’s a one in
a kind, I especially like the layout of it and I think that it looks good and I would not change it.
8. Audience Appeal
The intended target audience are achieved in the products I made because it is a gaming and movie
magazine and 10-20 is the general age for gamers which is why they would buy my product. The magazine
that I have made I would say is intended for males but some females might like them but a small ratio, they
appeal more too the male gender because they are darker colours and use more violent topics of gaming,
like zombies. The social grade is middle class and I would say I achieved this because the magazine costs a
price which is affordable at £4.25, most magazines would be cheap at about £2.99 but with mine you get a
free game inside which is why it’s a little bit extra. My product was very appealing and looked good so
people would impulse buy, they were appealing because they used darker colours and cool styles for
example my title used a pixelated font which is very gaming like.
10. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
– On the front cover all the images used were all
placed neatly and on the double page spread
there is lots of information and images.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Could use brighter colours on the front cover to
make it more eye catching.
11. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
I like the wide range of imagery on the double page
article. I also like how the magazine is about
entertainment as a whole and not one specific part
of the entertainment genre.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
I don’t like like the large blocks of colour on the
front cover and I believe the fonts could have been
improved.
12. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I think that it is good that it is about
entertainment as a whole and not one specific
part of the entertainment genre.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Could use brighter colours on the front cover to
make it more eye catching.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
I agree with how the double article looks a bit plain and doesn't’t
really catch the eye so I could change it by making the text white and
the background black but also by including more information.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
The squares on the front need to be thier otherwise it would be text
on background which you wouldn't’t be able to read and if you
changed the colour of the font it would look out of place.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
For my magazine the only part I would like to change includes the double page by making the text
white and the background black but also by including more information on it making it more
interesting and appealing to the audience. Only with just this I would say there is nothing else to
change because everything else is great. If I had more time I would just create even more double
pages and make tiny tweaks to the front cover which I have already created. My time was managed
well. I was on time for every deadline and sometimes finished my work before which gave me a bit
of time to look at what I wrote and check if it was good. My colour schemes were good and related
well to the theme of the genre. The idea was very unique and I believe I pulled it off well, if it was
another type of magazine I do not believe I would have been able to do it very well.
