“ A set of rules for memorization?” “ In most cases, students don't need to know about the language,   they need to be able to use the language.”   ->  Grammaring  ( coined by Diane Larsen-Freeman)   **more  than grammar - ongoing process in a particular context,  not static knowledge - not about knowing language systems,  but about knowing how to use language - the  fifth skill  to use grammar structures accurately, meaningfully, and appropriately   **more  than teaching - not only teaching rules - by helping students learn how to figure out  their language choices in grammar
Lesson Plan
Student Level: Intermediate level  (3rd graders at Elementary) Class Time: 40 minutes Focus: Grammaring  Materials: Video clips, storybooks,  PC connected internet,  powerpoint slides, worksheets.
Students will be able to :  - understand the differences between the present  tense and the past tense. - gain competence to use appropriate the simple  past tense verb in a variety of situation. - communicate and describe what happened in the  past by using the simple past tense. Topic: What did you do yesterday? (The Simple Past Tense)
Assumptions: Students already know how to make sentences  and how the sentences are structured. Students are intermediate level. Students are already aware of some past  tense verbs and uses.
Teacher will show a video clip to introduce the topic. Teacher will ask students what they saw on the video clip  to show the difference between the present tense and the  simple past tense. Warm  – up
T will show a short story to the students  and  highlights the simple past tense verbs. T hands out a worksheet to each student.  Ss will choose words from the picture and create their  own personalized stories. As a group,  Ss will share stories  and complete. T will give some correction or feedback. Pre-Activity
Ss will do the Omok activity as a group. Teacher will encourage Ss to talk to one  another about what they did yesterday and  choose/use the simple past tense of verb.  Teacher will monitor/find mistakes and  correct them. Post-Activity
1. Rewrite the story using the simple past tense verbs. 2. Draw a crazy bathroom based on your  own story. Homework
