The document outlines a lesson plan for a 6th grade English class taught by trainees. The lesson focuses on teaching the present continuous tense through various activities. Students will describe images using the tense, complete sentences with verbs, and match characters to actions. The plan includes objectives, routines, warm up, two development activities, and a closing. Trainees will use badges, presentations, photocopies, and the board to guide students in practicing reading, writing, and speaking skills while learning about the present continuous tense.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Monge Ana Valentina & Morán Ana Belén - 2017
2
Asking students about how they are on this day and if there is anybody absent.
Timing: 3 minutes
WARM UP
The lesson will start by giving each student badges with their corresponding names
so as to identify them easily (5 minutes). After this, the trainee will show a Power Point
Presentation with images about Juanito Laguna - a character painted by Antonio Berni
already analyzed in previous lessons with the teacher – introducing the ‘Present Continuous
Tense’. Together with this, the trainee will give each student a photocopy with a Multiple
Choice exercise that will be done orally and all together with the help of the trainee. In that
way, students will be able to start describing the images projected. If there is necessary, the
trainee will speak in Spanish and use the whiteboard.
- Example: ‘Juanito is collecting trash’.
• Type of interaction: Teacher- students.
• Macro-skills: Reading and speaking.
• Timing: 15 minutes
• Materials: Badges, whiteboard, projector, netbook, photocopies.
DEVELOPMENT
First activity: The trainee will give each student another photocopy, in which they will
have to describe images by choosing the right verb ‘To be’ (is/are) and completing the
sentences with verbs given in a box. In that way, students will describe the images by using
the Present Continuous tense. The activity will be done individually and the trainee will
help students when necessary. After this, the activity will be corrected orally and all
together using the whiteboard. Finally, the trainee will ask students about the Children
rights - already studied – that are present and reflected in the images on the photocopy.
- Example: They are sharing time with their family.
• Type of interaction: Students individually.
• Macro-skills: Reading, writing and speaking.
3. PRACTICE II, Didactics of ELT and Practicum at Primary School level
Monge Ana Valentina & Morán Ana Belén - 2017
3
• Timing: 12 minutes.
• Materials: Photocopies, whiteboard.
Second Activity: As final activity, the trainee will give each student a last photocopy, in
which there will be five sentences describing actions and students will have to number the
characters in an image according to the actions they are doing. The activity will be done
individually and if not finished in class, students will have to do is as homework. When
necessary, the trainee will use the whiteboard and offer her help to the students.
- Example: ‘2 Glenda is cleaning the table’.
• Type of interaction: Students individually.
• Macro-skills: Reading.
• Timing: 5 minutes
• Materials: Photocopies, whiteboard.
CLOSING UP
The trainee will assign the last activity as homework, just in case students could not
finish it in class. Finally, the trainee will say goodbye to the students.
