Lecture
I will write few sentences on the board using the
past simple tense structure and explain the form
of past simple tense. Then I will set the chart
having the structure of the past simple tense
together with the example sentences.
After that I will explain that the past simple
tense is used to tell about states completed at a
certain point of time in the past. I will also point
out that “-ed at the end of the verb form” is the
prime marker for the past simple tense.
(Irregular verbs will be explained later).
(I will write several verbs on the board with the
past form of the verbs so that students can notice
that “-ed” is the prime marker of the past tense).
After that I will explain that we use past simple
tense in questions to ask about things happened
and completed in the past. I will also explain to
the students that we use the past form of “do”
which is “did” to ask in the past and with “did”
we use the verb in the simple form, but when we
answer we convert the verb into the past form.
Example:
(1) Did you enjoy last cricket match of
Bangladesh?
(2) Did you study for the exam?
Students will listen to my lecture.
Students will write the structure and
examples in their class work copy.
Answer 1: Yes, we enjoyed the last
cricket match of Bangladesh.
OR: Yes, we did.
Answer 2: Yes, I studied for the
examination.
OR: Yes, I did.

Stage The role of the teacher The role of the students
Practice
Guidedoralpractice
Physical Response – I will invite some
students to perform certain activities and
after that their classmates will be asked to
tell about the activity they saw.
For example: I will invite “student- A” to
walk in the classroom. Then I will ask
“student-B” – What did “student –A” do?
Creating questions using past tense
Guided oral practice – class will practice
by converting my statements into
questions.
Example 1:
Teacher: I explained this point before.
Example 2:
Teacher: I wrote the example on the
board.
Making negative statement using past
simple tense
Negative statement –.
Example 1:
Teacher: Did you see the movie?
Student A: will walk in the classroom.
Student B: “Student-A” walked in the
classroom.
Example 1:
Student A: Did the teacher explain this
point before?
Student B: Yes, He explained it before.
(or) Yes, he did.
Example 2:
Student A.: Did the teacher write the
example on the board?
Student B.: Yes, he wrote the example
on the board.
Student B: I didn’t see the movie. ( or)
No, I didn’t.

Application
Evaluation
I will ask the following questions to assess
my students.
1. When do we use past simple tense?
2. What is the prime indicator of past
simple tense?
3. What verb form will be used in the
sentence after using “did” in the
sentence?
Students will answer my questions.
Answer:
1. We use past simple tense to
express an action that happened in
the past. / We use past simple tense
to tell about states completed at a certain
point of time in the past.
2. The prime indicator of the past
tense is “-ed at the end of the simple
verb form”
3. The base form of verb will be used
in the sentence after using “did” in
the sentence.
Home
work
Think of a time you were late. Write five
sentences about what happened; use verbs
to tell about the past.
Students will write down the home
work.
Departure
When the bell will be rung, I will bid
“good-bye” to my students and leave the
classroom erasing the board.
Students will also bid “good-bye” to
the teacher respectfully.
Note: In some cases the student’s answer may differ from what I expect, and
then I will handle the situation as per the needs of the students.

  • 3. Lesson Plan Md. Abdul Kader; Lecturer in english; Cambrian College Step Time:20Minutes Stage The role of the teacher The role of the studentsPresentation Lecture I will write few sentences on the board using the past simple tense structure and explain the form of past simple tense. Then I will set the chart having the structure of the past simple tense together with the example sentences. After that I will explain that the past simple tense is used to tell about states completed at a certain point of time in the past. I will also point out that “-ed at the end of the verb form” is the prime marker for the past simple tense. (Irregular verbs will be explained later). (I will write several verbs on the board with the past form of the verbs so that students can notice that “-ed” is the prime marker of the past tense). After that I will explain that we use past simple tense in questions to ask about things happened and completed in the past. I will also explain to the students that we use the past form of “do” which is “did” to ask in the past and with “did” we use the verb in the simple form, but when we answer we convert the verb into the past form. Example: (1) Did you enjoy last cricket match of Bangladesh? (2) Did you study for the exam? Students will listen to my lecture. Students will write the structure and examples in their class work copy. Answer 1: Yes, we enjoyed the last cricket match of Bangladesh. OR: Yes, we did. Answer 2: Yes, I studied for the examination. OR: Yes, I did. Creating questions using past tense Guided oral practice – class will practice by converting my statements into questions. Example 1: Teacher: I explained this point before. Example 2: Teacher: I wrote the example on the board. Making negative statement using past simple tense Negative statement –. Example 1: Teacher: Did you see the movie?
