Introduction to Coating Systems for Glass
Objective To demonstrate the product, sales, marketing and revenue benefits of providing Nanokote coating systems for shower screens and glass balustrades.
Coatings For Glass
Who We Are Micronisers Pty Ltd was founded in 1987 and specialise in advanced micro and nano milling. Micronisers has a number of proprietary chemical processes to produce products at the molecular level and has long term supply contracts with some of the largest chemical companies in the world. Micronisers has manufacturing and sales offices in Australia and Malaysia, and sales offices in China, UAE, Thailand and Taiwan. Micronisers has collaborated with a number of companies around the world to develop nanotechnology products for commercial and domestic applications. Nanokote was formed as a marketing and distribution arm for the specific purpose of delivering end user products to the global market.

What is Nanotechnology? Nanotechnology deals with the study of molecular and atomic particles, a world that is measured in nanometres (billionths of a meter or 10 -9 ) and is 1000 times smaller than the human eye can see. Working at this nano scale, specifically designed molecular architectures and intelligent structures can be created. These supra (nano) molecules provide superior, performance-enhancing attributes such as stronger, smoother, longer lasting, more flexible, smarter and less expensive surface coatings. Nanokote, a division of an Australian company Micronisers, which, in conjunction with the CSIRO have been developing nanotechnology for 15 years, have now developed a range of surface coatings to improve every day life. Nanokote is one the first of these new generation of products utilising nanotechnology.
Summary Hydrophobic and clean. The hydrophobic function - the run off effect has since become the most popular application of ‘surface influencing’. The function lets liquid just drip off a surface. For example, when treated with Nanokote, water simply runs off shower screens and mirrors like balls of mercury. Hydrophobic functions are available for many surfaces including glass, metal, wood, plastic, mineral undercoats, textiles and leather. The surfaces maintain their clear and clean appearance longer and allow better visibility. The enhanced surfaces can also be effortlessly cleaned of soap residues, colourants and oils with less cleaning products.
Easy application and 10 year protection against soiling, lime stains, finger prints for: Shower glass Architectural glass Glass balustrades Kitchen splashbacks Frosted glass Special application glass
Nano Now! Frameless glass shower screens and glass splashbacks have increased in popularity enormously in the last few years. These products look fantastic when they are clean, but ordinary when they are not! The appearance of glass deteriorates over time, which is most obvious on shower screens. This is due to glass corrosion. Contaminants present in water, such as calcium in hard water or lime from soaps and shampoos attack the surface of unprotected glass. This permanent degradation in the quality of the glass often results in reduced visibility and an unsightly haze to the glass. Application of Nanokote produces an invisibly thin, durable “non-stick” surface similar to that of “non-stick” fry pans. The coating protects the glass from corrosion and prevents dirt and contaminants from sticking to the glass or ceramic surface, dramatically reducing the need to clean.
Consumer Benefits Products coated with Nanokote: Stay cleaner for longer Require less cleaning Are easier to clean Maintain ‘showroom’ appearance for longer Eliminates the need for harsh cleaning chemicals Saves water Saves time and money.
Chemical Process

Features & Benefits One-time application for exceptionally long-term effect Up to 10 years durability on new glass
Features & Benefits Exceptionally easy to clean 90% reduction in cleaning Simply a wipe with a damp cloth using a mild detergent – no water wastage Antibacterial A cleaner, more sterile environment Water, oil, lime & dirt-repelling This means a much reduced need to clean. And, when cleaning is required it is exceptionally easy to do. Protects against corrosion You may have noticed that after a period of time the scum that builds up on your shower screen doesn’t come off, regardless of how well you scrub. This is because the glass has been permanently damaged due to corrosion. Coating with Nanokote prevents this.
Features & Benefits Application is very, very easy Anyone can apply it; the secret is in getting the surface as clean as possible before applying the Nanokote coating. One of the best ways to do this is by using Nanokote precleaner. Scratch and abrasion resistant Not only does the coating result in an easy to clean surface but it also results in a very strong coating that resists scratching Ideal for surfaces that you want to remain aesthetically pleasing Invisible The coating is much, much smaller than the human eye can detect. Hence the coating is 100% transparent. Coated surfaces are not slippery and do not appear oily.
Features & Benefits UV resistant The Nanokote coating has undergone extensive testing that has proven that UV radiation has no effect on the coating. Environmentally friendly Never a need to use aggressive cleaners and the mild detergents that are sometimes used are needed in much reduced volumes. No water wastage from cleaning. Caustic and acid resistant When used on baths and basins soaps (alkali) do not affect the coating. The Nanokote coating is exceptionally durable.
Customer Benefit – up to 90% less cleaning
Effect of easy cleaning Uncoated glass with lime residue Glass coated with Nanokote & lime residue
Benefits Unique selling proposition - ‘the cleanest glass ’ Differentiates provides a value added and ‘up sell’ opportunity. Provides a competitive advantage when tendering for commercial projects due to the reduced cleaning costs associated with Nanokote systems. Enables a competitive advantage and premium pricing.
