Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have developed GIS and IT infrastructure to manage their forests. Both states have web-based MIS systems and mobile applications for tasks like plantation monitoring. Maharashtra has 32 web applications for functions like nursery management and court case tracking, while Madhya Pradesh has 28 applications including for forest offenses and working plans. Both states also offer GIS-based mapping of plantations, nurseries, and regeneration surveys. Overall, Maharashtra has more web applications and mobile apps for public participation, while Madhya Pradesh utilizes GIS tools more for data collection and map corrections.

▫ MFD became pioneer in providing citizen services online on their portal, MPFD
lacking in this
• Android/ Mobile Based application
▫ Keen monitoring and record keeping of Plantations, through android app by MFD
▫ Public Participation to plantation is easily traceable using mobile app by MFD.
▫ MPFD takes a lead by application for tribal rights
▫ MPFD takes advantage of ArcGIS toolkit and thus provides various form based
applications for data collection using apps. MFD have app only for asset
management.

▫ In some areas MH is leading ( type of data collected, presenting the data, quality
and authenticity of data )
▫ In some areas MP is leading ( Application of GIS like revenue forest dispute
settlement of land by rectification)
