Pros And Cons Of Diff Types Of Health Insurance
What are the Pros and cons of diff types of health insurance benefits package that someone might
purchase?
For this weeks assignment I choose to show the option I was given from my employer. There are two
plans offered once a year one plan is called the Enhanced Plan and the other called the Core Plan. As
you all know there is a cost to both, although cost of insurance has rise since the Affordable Health
Care Act , better know as Obamacare, my employee has made changes as well as adjust some of the
costs to the end user. The Core was the plan for the McFadden s family, although the annual deduction
was a little higher than Enhanced plan. The summary of the Core and Enhance plan option, as long as

It’s Time to Demand More from Corporate America Essay
It s Time to Demand More from Corporate America
Michael Moore exposes corporate America s dark side in Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to
Flint, and The Big One (Moore). These show that corporate America is committing a form of domestic
terrorism by dehumanizing and exploiting their workers then forcing them to the streets to survive.
The actions by individuals such as Roger Smith and Phil Knight are perfect examples of capitalists
constantly oppressing the working class described by Karl Marx. By dehumanizing workers business
owners are able to push them to the streets by closing factories and remain a good public image. Who
cares if these degenerate people lose their jobs?
The first step in the terrorism plot is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doing manual labor and never getting recognition builds on a person after years causing a
dehumanizing effect on them. This is just the beginning of corporate terrorism leading into the later
stage.
After successfully breaking down the working class the CEO is able to close down factories and move
them to countries with lower worker standards to increase profit. This disregard of human life pushes
workers to the streets forcing them into poverty. What do these people have to look forward to after
losing their homes? They live in dirt, disease, and fear with many having to choose between food and
soap (Parker). Now the homeless stand stripped of integrity asking for help. Instead of help they are
viewed as criminals. Peter Marin details the thoughts of many people on homeless, Drinking, doping,
loitering, panhandling, defecating, urinating, molesting, stealing... (Marin). Why are the homeless
being ridiculed? Why not point at those putting these people on the street? People like Roger Smith.
Our optimistic heritage stands in the way of recognizing how frequently economic failure occurs.
(Newman). Newman sums up the way a majority of Americans are brought up to think. It is a
common belief that hard work can accomplish anything, however hard work can not stop corporations
from sending jobs overseas. Those that do work hard and lose jobs are still scorned for not being able
to find another. In reality any job they

October 20, 2017 Synthesis of Female vs Male Stereotypes
I will be looking at the two articles, What it means to Be a Man : How male Gender Stereotypes Try to
Fit Growing Boys into a Mold, and Fail by Samantha Olson and the other article is I Want a Wife by
Judy Brady. Synthesis is the combining of separate elements or substances to form a coherent whole.
The combining of the constituent elements of separate material or abstract entities into a single, or
merged unit (opposed to analysis,) the separating of any material or abstract entity into its
fundamental elements. (http://www.dictionary.com/) The purpose of doing a synthesis easy is to build

They portray the female as a person who did the cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids while the
men are doing the things they want going to work, going out with friends. Looking at the article by
Samantha Olsen, it is about where we prepare boys to be tough, not to cry, suck it up if they get hurt or
have their feelings hurt and to be a man at a young age. We can see how wrong this is in both articles
because females are not a slave to their husbands and boys are not men and need to be able to feel
what they want or need to at any age. In the first article, she uses personal experiences to show how
men think of women as taking care of all their needs, as well as the children and their needs, also be
able to fit in what her needs are while he does what he wants to do. In personal experience, I did not
have this type of life we choose to do the chores and the other duties together as a family that works
together to help each other not to put more stress on one or the other. In the second article, she writes
about how boys are treated differently from girls. They are told if one of your peers also, need to be
tough guys not to girls we are weak and emotional. However, the way we hit you hit them back that
they are not supposed to cry, don t act that way be a man about it, expect and teach boys to be this big

Hence with higher gross income of households also means that Australians has higher disposable
income which allows them to spend more on dining outside. In real terms, spending on food has
increased 30 percent (over the past 20 years) while incomes have risen 36 percent, according to the
Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry 2012 foodmap report. Thus, this increases the
bargaining power of buyers as Australians are able to spend more on food due to a higher gross
household income. A restaurant is characterized by their food standards and service standards. The
way how food is cooked and its taste differs from restaurant to restaurant. The key to success for
restaurants is by differentiation from other restaurants. For example, Manhattan fish market signature
dish is their flaming seafood platter whereby their sea cret agent would flame it up when it is served
this. While in comparison fish n co serves up their fish and chips in different sauces according to the
country s favorite sauce such as for Singapore; Chili crab, India ; Curry and so on. This product
differentiation allows for brand loyalty; when a customer likes a particular restaurant and is used to the
taste he/she would come back again repeatedly. Thus since the product on offer differs from restaurant
to restaurant it makes the bargaining power of buyers low as they are unable to easily find a

Proportionality

Alternatively, strong effectiveness is when regulators do a cost benefit analysis to determine the true
cost of enforcing catalytic converters (as per class discussion, week 2). This can help highlight any
intended or unintended consequences. Governments may then be able to subsidize the cost of
installing catalytic converters (as per class discussion, week 2).
Efficiency
Is the regulator being efficient in utilizing resources? Regulations should be designed in a way that
costs are efficiently spent, provided the original regulatory objectives are not compromised (as per
Lesson 2, week 2). This normally involves regulators encouraging innovation and allowing for the
efficiency of markets (as per Lesson 2, week 2).
For example, in an effort to lower the carbon footprint from factory smoke stacks, the government can
mandate a new expensive piece of equipment to be installed. If this equipment poses a financial
burden on the regulated firm, the regulation can be inefficient; however, if regulated factories are able
to reduce their footprint through other lower cost options such as using less harmful raw materials or
installing solar panels; then that would be an efficient way of utilizing resources and enforcing the

The Road Of The Trail Of Tears
The Trail of Tears has been one of the most controversial government sponsored events in American
History. Was America justified in destroying a culture in its pursuit of Manifest Destiny, or did they
feel it was their only option in this matter at the time? Based on research, I feel that the American
policy of Indian removal and relocation was extremely unethical and unjustified in its motives and
execution. Before Europeans arrived in present day America, the Native Americans were living on
millions of acres of land their ancestors had occupied and cultivated. Many Native Americans were
initially somewhat willing to share land with original settlers. However, when settlers began taking
land that already belonged to the Natives, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cherokee Indians and some Choctaw Indians attempted to follow these guide lines and blend in with
Americans, sending their children to schools and some even started to own slaves. Even though many
Cherokee and Choctaw Indians tried to assimilate with the American culture, they were still forced out
of their homeland and were rarely truly accepted by the white population as anything other than tamer
savages.
Despite the Native s attempts to conform to society, they were still discriminated against, losing their
land, homes, and property. As white settlers began to realize the value of the Native s land, many
began to encroach west after the Louisiana Purchase. Settler s wished to use the land for plantations
and farms. As the desire and need for more land grew, the state governments began to realize the
futility of trying to contain the settlers attitude of Manifest Destiny and they soon joined in making
laws that would limit the rights of the Native Americans. The Supreme Court attempted to stop this
harsh treatment of the Natives, but were ultimately ignored as the harsh treatment continued. Southern
states were determined to have the Native s land for their own and they felt this was reinforced

Masculinity in Peter Weir s Gallipoli
Essay Question: Discuss the ways in which masculinity is constructed in Gallipoli and / or First
Blood? What codes and norms of gender are used to construct masculinity in the film(s)?
The perception of masculinity within Australian films is a reflection of our society s views and
opinions of what it is to be considered masculine. It is continually reinforced in our society by the
constructions of the male character in movies, just like Archie and Frank, in Gallipoli and particular
male figures within our nation s history, such as Ned Kelly. Peter Weir s reflection of masculinity
through the use of his two main characters Archie and Frank, in his 1981 film Gallipoli, helped to
perpetuate this construction of the Aussie male stereotype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weir demonstrates this type of homosociality in Archie and Frank s friendship by having particular
scenes within the movie where the audience watches on as both characters cement their relationship
with races for fun in the Egyptian training grounds and climbing the pyramids to leave their names to
generations to come in the ancient stones. Similar to that of young love with Frank being the strong
male and Archie taking on the role of female.
The two characters symbolize the differing attitudes to the war, to personal ambition and even the way
they run and how, the way they run, reflect how they live. Archie s sacrifice is the apotheosis of
greater love when he takes Franks place in the line symbolizing an act of a hero. But like all heroes
Frank and Archie must undergo shared trials, such as crossing the desert before they can attempt to
enlist, as well as both, having to suffer the individual humiliation of being rejected into the army. A
special kind of man went. Sure, they were adventurers, but a very simple kind. They weren t
swashbucklers, but they were a kind of warrior class Isolating the characters from their positions in a
way of dramatic irony and representing them ignorant of the causes and horrors of war, strengthens
the sense of the lost generation s innocence and the growth of a national understanding since the end
of the imperial compliance.
According to Katherine Biber, violent white men are

Causes And Effects Of Urbanization
In both developed and developing countries of the world, urban centers have been an alternative
center for human settlement and hence, the rate of urbanization is increasing at the turn of this century.
Recent studies indicate that at the beginning of the twentieth century, only 10% of the world s
population lived in urban areas. However, currently, half of the world s population has become urban
dwellers (UNCHS, 2002). This shows that urbanization all over the world is expanding from time to
time and the change has vast implication on the living conditions of the urban society. Due to rapid
urbanization, the concentration of people especially, in cities and towns of developing countries
increasingly aggravated the problem of housing.
A large proportion of residents in cities and towns developed as well as developing countries are
tenants (UN HABITAT, 2003).Urbanization has been the dominant demographic trend in the entire
world during the last half century (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/289971629 accessed on
30 November 2017). Demographic variables such as population size, growth rates, and growth levels
have major impacts on the demand for urban social and economic infrastructure (Girma, 2004).
The level of urbanization in the world as a whole was about 46.6 percent in 2000, 50.6 percent in 2010
and it is supposed to reach 57.2 percent in 2025. The corresponding figures for African countries are
36.0 percent, 40.0 percent, and 47.2 percent respectively.

Dispositional, Evolutionary And Evolutionary Theory
Dispositional, and Evolutionary Theory Nicholas DeRico PSY/405 August 24, 2015 Dispositional,
Biological and Evolutionary Theory Abstract There are many theories that attempt to clarify the
structures that influence personality, for example dispositional, and Evolutionary theory. This paper
will discuss the differences that are among dispositional and evolutionary personality theories, as well
as, strengths and limitations of dispositional and evolutionary and biological personality theories their
bearing on human behavior. Furthermore, the Big Five personality test and what technique is used to
study personality. Difference Facets relating Dispositional, and Evolutionary Theory The premises of
dispositional theories fluctuate from those of other theorists because they present the basis of study for
personality; Dispositional theorists believe that behavior is significant and adaptive. People don t
merely adapt to their environments, but are also aware of their environment and relate to it, in order to
shape their social environment (Feist, 2013). Dispositional theory argues that personality is not an
unchanging structure, but unpredictable because of our psychological and physical originalities.
Allport describes personality as a dynamic organization present in all humans which influence one s
psychophysical structures and determines their characteristic behavior and cognitive functions (Feist,
2013). Dispositional theories are mutually diverse relating to

Wou Wound Healing Essay
Introduction The skin, the most important organ in the human body has many vital functions
including: sensation, thermoregulation, protection and synthesis of vitamin D. Routinely and
consistent assessment and monitoring of the patients skin condition is one of the most important duty
we have as nurses. This is very important because any change in the condition of the skin may often
be an indication of underlying disease Injury of either the epidermis or the dermis can result in
systemic infection, increased morbidity, increased cost of care, and negative psychosocial
consequences (Schindler, Kuhn, Christopher, Conway, Ridling Simpson; 2011). Wound healing is a
very complex process. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative
phase, and the maturational or remodeling phase. These phases might overlap at times (Porth, 2011).
Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory phase starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood
clot and the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound site. The first cells to arrive, the
neutrophils, ingest and remove bacteria and cellular debris. After twenty four hours, the neutrophils
are joined by macrophages that continue to ingest cellular debris and play an important role in the
production of growth factors for the proliferative phase (Porth, 2011).
Proliferative Phase The proliferative phase typically follows and overlaps with the inflammatory
phase,

Evidence shows that many tenants also fall into at least one other group considered to be at higher risk

and home ownership; those born later are somewhat less likely to be homeowners than their
predecessor at the same stage in their life. Evidence shows that, the growth of home ownership rate

have lower rates of home ownership than the people who were born before them (Belfield et al, 2015).
Also for those who were fortunate to have bought their house under the Right to Buy scheme have a
higher rate of home ownership compared to those who did not get the opportunity to do so. For those
who are aged 25, have a homeowner rate of, 45% compared with 33% of those born in the 1970s

well out to be a permanent difference between generation rather than simply changes in the timing of
house purchase due to he factor such as changing in the timing and family formation (Belfield et al,

20th Century Philosophy
This week s paper we were to research and identify three prevailing philosophical perspectives at
work during the 20th Century. To begin I will research the history of a few new tendencies in
contemporary philosophy. Then I will discuss the Tom Rockmore interpretation of such tendencies.
Tom Rockmore is Professor of Philosophy and a McAnulty College Distinguished Professor, Dr.
Rockmore s current research interests encompass all of modern philosophy, with special emphasis on
selected problems as well as figures in German idealism (Kant, Fichte, Hegel, Marx) and recent
continental philosophy (Heidegger, Habermas, Lukacs). He is continuing to explore the epistemology
of German idealism as well as the relation between philosophy and ... Show more content on

The most practical of analytical philosophy also included Moore, and Carnape. The American (neo)
pragmatism philosophy is a philosophical movement that was given systematic terms by Charles
Sanders Peirce and William James and later taken up and revamped by John Dewey. Pragmatists stress
the practical purpose of knowledge as a way for acclimatizing to reality and controlling it. Pragmatism
concur with empiricism in its emphasis on the importance of experience over a priori reasoning.
However the truth had customarily been discussed in terms of communication with reality or in terms
of coherence pragmatism embraces that truth is to be sought in the process of verification. Pragmatists
translates ideas as means and plans of action rather than as images of reality; more specifically, they
are recommendations and anticipations of possible conduct, hypotheses or forecasts of what will result
from a given action, or ways of organizing behavior(Answer,2010)
Between the continental and the analytic philosophy, being the two most significant tendencies, barely
any debate was taking place; this was due to the lack of knowledge, contempt, and mutual lack of
attention. In spite of this, the situation is changing slowly: especially American philosophers like
Taylor, Nagel, Rorty and others converse subjects in which until recently only

Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act
In 1965, at a time of racial discrimination in America and the emergence of a strong Civil Rights
Movement, congress enacted the Voting Rights Act (VRA), which prohibits discrimination in voting.
Congress could not end racial discrimination in voting by suing one jurisdiction, state, etc. at a time.
Rather, Congress passed Section 5 of the VRA, which required states and local governments with a
history of racially discriminating voting practices to get the approval of the U.S. Attorney General or a
three judge panel for the U.S. District Court for D.C. ( preclearace ) in order to make any changes to
their voting practices. Section 4(b) said that the preclearance requirement applied to states and
political subdivisions that used a test or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The defendant argued that Congress found substantial evidence of racial discrimination in voting in
the jurisdictions that are covered and that even if voting dilution does not violate the 15th Amendment,
it does violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and therefore Congress can protect
against vote dilution. Next, the plaintiff argued that the ruling in the D.C. Circuit, which would allow
Congress to determine for itself the constitutional significance of the evidence, threatened to remove
the limitation that Congress may enforce but not interpret the 14th and 15th Amendments and that the
D.C. Circuit used to absence of discrimination to prove that the preclearance requirement is effective
and still necessary. On this issue, the defendant argued that Congress correctly determined that Section
5 continues to ward off discrimination in voting that would violate the Constitution. Third, the plaintiff
argued that even if preclearance is justified, the coverage formula is not rational since it is based on
decades old data and also because the factors that are considered are first generation ballot access
issues, while the Voting Rights Act is meant to defeat second generation problems such as vote
dilution. The defendant argued that Congress determined which jurisdictions should be covered and
then engineered a formula that would cover those specific jurisdictions, so the formula is still relevant
because it specifies the areas which Congress

It has its foundation in the theory of variation (understanding common and special causes) and was
one of the key tools developed by Walter Shewhart in the 1920s. The primary tools used in SPC are
graphical, including Pareto analysis, control charts and run charts. It is crucial for QI teams and
researchers to understand variation in data to avoid making errors in interpretation, though in practice,
many QI teams do not have sufficient biostatistical training to be able to interpret their data with
confidence. The practical power of SPC is that people who are not statisticians can bring significant
statistical rigor to their quantitative data in an intuitive format by understanding just a few simple,
pattern based rules to distinguish special cause variation (i.e., signals) from common cause variation
(i.e., noise). Distinguishing special and common cause variation is critical to understanding whether
changes you are making result in improvement (i.e., is there a signal of change present?). Among all
of the SPC tools, control charts have the most power to distinguish common from special cause
variation. Control charts plot data over time (time on the x axis) and include a measure of central
tendency (centerline, mean) and upper and lower control limits (plus/minus 3 sigma of the mean). The
control limits reflect the natural variation in the data or the extent of the

Louis XIV And The Development Of English Nationalism
In 1688 1689, England underwent a revolution that reshaped its monarchy. When James II took the
throne in 1685, the public was optimistic, but this quickly changed. The public s view of James II
went from optimistic to cynical because of the King s refusal to take action against the French. Instead
of taking action, many viewed James II as becoming like the French monarch. In conjunction with a
declining support, James II and his wife had produced a male heir in the summer of 1688, insuring
that a catholic would inherit the throne. The birth of a Catholic heir was the breaking point for the
English. The result was the English sending secret messages to Prince William of Orange, inviting him
to invade England. Marking the start of the revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When James II inherited the throne in 1685, the public expected James II to take action against the
French monarch King Louis XIV. The English people feared King Louis XIV s would try to create a
universal monarch. If Louis XIV had created a universal monarch, all other countries would have lost
their independence. For the English, it would have meant the end to the national identity they all
valued. Unfortunately for James II, he did not take action against France. Instead, many believed and
feared that James II wanted to change the English government to one modeled after the French
Government. This fear escalated when James II attempted to suspend the test acts by issuing the
Declaration of Indulgence. Although this declaration was supposed to encourage religious tolerance,
many English citizens did not view it that way. They viewed it as treat to the established parliament in
England. This increased fears because many compared James II declaration to Louis XIV s acts when
he invaded the supreme legal authority of France. Because of their fear of being Frenchified, the
English invited the Prince of Orange to invade England, starting the revolution. To justify this action,
Pincus describes it best. He said, English loyalty was primarily to English law and English customs
[national identity] rather than a particular monarch. Since James had violated that law, he ceased to be
an English king and was no longer owed obedience. In the end, the Prince of Orange arrived with the
support of the majority of the English. As a result, James II abdicated and fled to France. The

The Spaniards And The Indians
The Spaniards and the Indians The Spanish crown was almost the top world power at the time of the
North American exploration. They had ships, men, influence of Christ, and the pursuit for gold. These
were some of the key features that the Spanish were going to use to justify enslavement and
mistreatment of the Indians. Portugal became a global empire; Spain wanted to find a faster way to get
to Asia (Lecture). The Spanish exploration started with Columbus in the year 1492. One year later,
1493 Columbus returned with seventeen ships and more than one thousand men to explore the area
and establish a Spanish outpost. (Foner, GML Pg19) This was the beginning of the colonization of
North America. There is a lot to be learned about the way the Spanish and Indian people interacted, it
was similar to the English but not as harsh. The way the Spanish treated the Indians has had a place in
history ever since. Word spread of Columbus s travels east and the people were astonished. Out of the
excitement it leads to more expeditions to South and North America. In 1502, the Spanish explorer,
Nicolás de Ovando arrives to institute a more permanent outpost. He shows up with men upwards to
2,500 men. On one of the ships that sailed with them was a man named Bartolomé de las Casas.
Bartolomé was also later known as protector of Indians . Nicolás and Bartolomé landed in Hispaniola.
This was later a major starting point for Spanish conquistadores, often accompanied by religious

With research, one can find the demographic portrait of users throughout technology.
Popescu (2013) gives an easy to follow infographic that tells us the type of people who use certain
networking sites, social media most often used by adults and a few interesting facts pertaining to age
and social media. With that being said, when it comes to targeting an audience through technology, it s
possible to be approaching the situation from all the wrong angles. One could be using a site to target
men in their forties when it is primarily used by women in their teens and twenties.
Seniors have proven to be a growing demographic in the world of technology in which they find cell
phones and computers as beneficial ways of communication. And, of course, the demographic
contributes to the continued use of healthy, security and home safety technology
(Orlov, 2011). Technology isn t limited to a single specific demographic, it is constantly evolving

and becoming a primary source of communication for the community. Being able to connect to an
audience through technology is to be connecting to the world and all the different people it has to

Technology of all kinds are being used by the diverse people of today. From teens to seniors, the
ability to connect with such a wide range of people is something that can only be accomplished via
technology. It is something to utilize, something to take

Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
In Chapter 2 of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that what we think of as freewill is
largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we
think and act and how we think and act on the spur of the moment are a lot more susceptible to outside
influences than we realize. (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our behavior and
decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of. As
humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of priming with
different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where priming occurs on
a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are strategically placed on the
shelves to target a specific audience company s want to sell their product to, the price tag are designed
with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there are signs located all around the
store that tell you that you ll be saving money so that you buy more of that certain product or so you
are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when subtle triggers we are either aware of
or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the reader imagine that he is a professor
proctoring a scrambled sentence test where students were asked to walk down a long hallway into an
exam room where they were given an exam with a list of five word sets and asked to change each
word set into a grammatically four word sentence as fast as possible. The test was not difficult but the
college students walked down the hallway more slowly than they walked towards the classroom. This
is because ingrained in the list were certain words that were associated with being old. This test, which
was developed by a clever psychologist named John Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness
ponder about the state of being old. Further research suggests that individuals can be primed to behave
differently, various words may be used to influence people to be polite or rude. Malcolm Gladwell
demonstrates how a simple scramble sentence test challenges your sub consciousness into believing
that you are much older by simply

The Myth Of Epic Of Gilgamesh
Sam Khidir
History 10
Professor Chrissanthos
4 October, 2016
From Myth to Religion The Sumerian myth Epic of Gilgamesh is known to be the oldest written
fictional story of all time. The original script, discovered on 12 clay tablets in ancient Sumeria, covers
the adventures of a real historical figure (Ralph): the Sumarian King of Uruk, who lived sometime
between the years 2750 and 2500 B.C. (Epic) The adventures of Gilgamesh were so popular among
the people of that era (the earliest written versions of the story dating to 2000 B.C.) that after centuries
of being told and retold, they soon became pure fiction. These fictional stories, eventually becoming
beliefs that people lived by, brings up one fundamental question that is still debated by many scholars
today; was the foundation for the teachings of the Old Testament based on the mythical story of
Gilgamesh? The content of the epic, and that of the Old Testament, seem too similar to ignore. This
paper will attempt to touch on the similarities between the two stories regarding Noah and the flood,
Adam, Eve, and eternal life, Samson and Delilah, embracing today and not worrying about tomorrow,
disobedience to the God s and forgiveness, and the word Bible. First, a brief summary of the Epic of
Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh was a Sumerian king who ruled Uruk. As a demi god (part god and part
human), he is both strong and knowledgeable in all things. He rules Uruk with an iron fist, working

How Media Influence Body Image
Body Image and the Media
70% of 6 12 year olds already have the mindset that they need to be thinner. (Just Say Yes.org)Many
factors influence individual s perception of his or her own appearance. Media has greatly increased the
ideal image of beauty. Barbie, models, and actors give people false hope that they will look just like
them, and if they look different then they aren t beautiful. Social media and peer pressures influence
the way teens see themselves. To fix this problem people need to learn to self love, respect themselves,
and understand that people on TV were given the job because of the way they look to appeal to the
audience.
First of all, since the growth of the Internet in 1980s the public has been bombarded with media driven
ideas of what characteristics are desirable for men and women. Women tend to want to look like
models they see on advertisements which is usually thin with nice curves. Men also tend to want to

The Ever Increasing Urgancy for World Peace
The 20th century can be credited as being one of the most violent times in recorded history. There
were over 98 million war related deaths, which is about six times the combined deaths of both the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Orwell conveys each of these killings as one mind less, one world
less. World peace would be an important goal to work towards. Many wanted to achieve world peace,
however, there were many different visions for how this could be accomplished. Despite the many anti

Counter-Culture Youth Pic Essay
In the following essay, I will attempt to highlight the phenomenon in cinema known as the
counterculture youth pic. This trend in production started in the late 1960 s as a result of the economic
and cultural influences on the film industry of that time. The following essay looks at how those
influences helped to shape a new genre in the film industry, sighting Easy Rider as a main example,
and suggests some possible reasons for the relatively short popularity of the genre.
The standard story of the counterculture begins with an account of the social order against which it
rebelled, a social order that was known to just about everyone by 1960 as the mass society. The tale of

Following the beatnik movement of the late 1950 s a number of young people, embracing some of the
same ideas, congregated in San Diego s Haight suburb. But it was not necessarily just the youth of the
day that were part of this social rejection.
The last half of the 1960 s saw the emergence of seemingly new cultures among young people, which
were promptly collapsed under the label youth culture by adults. Even so, these cultures were neither
entirely novel, nor limited to young people, nor so homogeneous as to be described by one label.
(Grans, Comparative Analysis)
Part of what made this movement so distinguishable at the time was the rebellion against the fashion
industry, as well as social norms. It was relatively easy to pick out which people sympathized with the
movement, especially with the characteristic male look of the Jesus Christ hair and beard. They
dressed to highlight their freakiness, combining clothes of other times and cultures.
Davy Crockett buckskin, military surplus, Buddhist robes, Edwardian suits, Errol Flynn pirate shirts,
native American headbands, capes, cowboy and Beatle boots, hats bowlers, stove top, cowboy,
Eskimo, anything and beads, of course. (Echols, Shaky Ground)
It was not only the social values and fashion trends that were experimented with. This period in

students, and the training program for race car engineers and designers around the world. Teams from
as far away as Korea, Japan and Mexico travel to the suburbs of Detroit each May for the big event.

It also comes from stories shared with me by many different teams. Much of this is a subjective
interpretation of my experience in the management end of a Formula project. I am human and fully
capable of missing something. I expect people will disagree with some of the ideas presented. The
opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect those of any organization I am now or have been
affiliated with. Part I: Organizational Topics Where to Begin: The natural inclination of any FSAETM
group is to begin by focusing on what car to build. While it is important to be thinking about design
issues and ideas, in the early meetings you will probably not be able to create a definitive plan. Unless
you have designed and built complete automobiles before, you should not make definitive decisions
yet. There will be plenty of dialog and thought given to the car design without making it a priority yet.
Students usually think the biggest problems will be technical. We embark on an FSAE project with
grand visions of a fast, exciting racecar and can t wait to get started designing and building it. What
you find out right away, particularly if you are in a leadership position, is that the largest problems to
overcome have less to do with actual hands on design, construction, and driving of

Artist Statement Analysis
Artist Statement
Our sculpture is titled Insensatez meaning that acting with ignorance will only bring problems. After
looking at a photo of an albatross that had its stomach cut open to reveal the insides are full of trash
inspired us to create a sculpture representing the same effect that pollution in the ocean has on
humans. We wanted to keep our sculpture as simplistic as possible so that the message of our sculpture
would impact our audience much more. In order to emphasize the effect of bioaccumulation, in our
sculpture, we began to paint the board of the sculpture black and using black plastic bags, as ripples,
to represent an oil spill. Then we created a human, from the waist up, out of chicken wire and paper
mache which we painted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To put this in perspective, if ten small fish who ate a single piece of microplastics are consumed by a
single larger fish, that large fish will then have all ten of the pieces of plastic that the smaller fish ate
earlier. Not only does the larger fish have the pieces of plastic in its body, it also has a concentrated
amount of chemicals that come along with the plastics. If marine animals are higher in the food web,
the more concentrated the chemicals are within the organisms along with all of the pieces of plastic
the previous organisms has consumed, this concept is called biomagnification. Humans are also
heavily impacted as well. Due to the fact that fish is the world s primary source of protein, meaning
that when we consume fish we are potentially as well consuming the tiny pieces of plastics and highly
concentrated chemicals. The Environmental Protection Agency agrees that bioaccumulation has
integrated itself into the human food web, which could result in malfunctions of the kidneys, liver, and
the nervous system. It may also contribute to the development of cancer. In the United States alone,
there are an estimated 75,000 chemicals that need further research, before any conclusions can be
made regarding the chemicals

Essay On Homotopy Analysis Method
Abstract
This research presents Homotopy Analysis Method to Fredholm integral equations of the second kind.
An analytical method solving linear and nonlinear equations. The Homotopy Analysis Method
provides an efficient and powerful tool in solving integral equations. The method provides a great
freedom in choosing an auxiliary parameter h, an auxiliary linear operator L,an auxiliary nonlinear
operator N, to analyze strongly linear and nonlinear problems. Application of the method to Fredholm
integral equations of the second kind is analyzed which gives a rapid convergence for the solutions.

Therefore, yn(x) can be easily gained especially by means of computational software such as
MATLAB. The solution y(x) given by the above
approach is dependent of L, h, H(x) and y0(x). Thus, unlike all previous analytical techniques, the
convergence region and rate of solution series given by the above approach might not be uniquely
determined. If ∑_(n=1)^∞▒yn(x) tends uniformly to a limit as n→∞, this limit is the required solution
(Vahdati, Zulkifly Abbas,
Ghasemi,2010).
3.0 HAM s solution to Fredholm integral equations
Let consider the equation
h(t)u(x)=g(x)+ƛ∫_r^s▒H(t,x) u(t)dt (3.1)
where the solution to equation (3.1) of Fredholm integral equations of the second kind.
3.1 Fredholm integral equations of the second kind
If h(t)=1 is substituted into equation(3.1),we have
U(t)=g(t)+ƛ∫_r^s▒〖H(t,x)u(x)dx 〗 b≤t≤c (3.2)
We construct the zeroth order deformation for this kind of integral equations as
(1 p)(u(t, p, h) g(x))=hp(u(t, p, h) g(t) ∫_r^s▒〖H(x,t)u(x,p,h)dx〗)

Why Is Czar Nicholas The Great Emancipator In Animal Farm
The Czar family has been dead for almost 100 years. Nicholas and his whole family were assassinated
due to him not being well admired per say. Also, the Czar didn t have any previous experience or
training before he received his throne. Much like Czar Nicholas II, Mr. Jones was also the leader of
some things and had many similar battles and problems. Mr. Jones is the farmer in the book Animal
Farm, which was a representation of Czar Nicholas II.
Nicholas II was born on May 6, 1868 in Pashikin, Russia. His father is Alexander III, whom he
inherited his throne from, but Nicholas II was not ready. He was crowned on May 26,1894, after his
father s death, without having any experience or training to help him rule. There was discontent in
Russia as food became scarce, soldiers became war weary, and devastating defects demonstrated the
Czar s ineffectual leadership (Czar Nicholas II abdicates). In addition, Nicholas faulty actions during
the Bloody Sunday and WW1 all of Russia indicted him for their squander. Furthermore, the citizens
began to rampage and cause commotion that Nicholas had no alternative but to relinquish his spot on
the monarchy. March 1917, the army Garrison at Petrograd joined striking workers in demanding

Jones and Czar Nicholas II were portrayed by George Orwell very well in my opinion. Orwell used
Nicholas II to base his character Mr. Jones in an understandable, simple, modernized way. It was very
easy to connect the dots and draw comparisons. The two of them, Nicholas II and Mr. Jones, had
many similar problems and actions that were in each other s life. Some differences were there, but not
many. Mr. Jones in the book Animal Farm did not die like Nicholas. They Both lived in a bed of roses,
but surprisingly, they still had work needed to be done. Be that as it may, they failed in doing their
necessary duties which cause an uprising in their responsibilities. Consequently, both the men were
over the throne and put to

Hamlet Loyalty Analysis
To be Loyal or not to be Loyal To be or not to be (127) is deciphered in Hamlet as whether or not
Hamlet wants to live or die, but adding (a) simple word(s) in the quote can change its meaning. To be
loyal or not to be loyal. Loyalty comes out of love; if you love someone you ll put them before others.
Being loyal,( no comma?) is staying with someone through all the hardships and trials they face.
Hamlet was very loyal to his father. He loved his father, and when his father died Hamlet was
miserable. Until the day, when his father s ghost appeared and revealed to Hamlet that his father s
death was caused by the most unnatural murder (57). His loyalty towards his father caused him to seek
revenge because he adored his father dearly. Even though people showed fondness towards King
Hamlet, there were some who lusted for what he had. King Hamlet had everything he ever needed, but
that didn t go over well with his vile brother, Claudius, who wanted King Hamlet s fortune, crown,
and wife. Claudius is a prime example of lacking loyalty. Claudius pleasure and jealousy caused him
to murder his brother. Family should be loyal to each other; Claudius was I m not saying that you can t
argue with them, but you should never betray them. Not only did Claudius display lack of loyalty but
Hamlet did as well. Hamlet didn t believe that he should show loyalty towards the villain who
murdered his beloved father. Hamlet wouldn t listen to Claudius when he told Hamlet to remain in
Denmark instead of going back to Wittenberg. Hamlet wasn t loyal to the king but that doesn t mean
he wasn t loyal to the queen. He loved his mother but he didn t know why she had to marry so quickly
after his father s death or why she married his uncle, but through those hard times he still loved and
obeyed her. When he saw the emotional distressed woman begging him to Let not thy mother lose her
prayers, Hamlet: I pray thee, stay with us; go not to Wittenberg (29). Hamlet had every reason to go
back to Wittenberg his father was gone, his mischievous uncle was now married to his mother, and no
one understood the grief he was going through. Even though it was difficult, he remained in Denmark
because he was loyal to his mother. His mother

Supply and Demand
Americans spent more than $150 billion on home improvements in 2013. The average household
improvement was $5,604. This year home improvement figures approach $327 billion with the
average home improvement $11,207. Add to this amount, the millions of new businesses opening each
year like Walgreens and Dollar General Stores. All of these new businesses need gables. Typically,
these businesses hit the market with huge budgets and specific requirements that Onyx Xteriors can
accommodate.
The United States has more than 500,000 hardware stores, siding distributors, roofing suppliers, home
improvement stores and many other businesses selling gable vents. With the building industry
exploding and the current devastating storms, current suppliers of gable vents are unable able to meet
existing demands. Onyx Xteriors can help fill this gap.
Distributors appreciate our aluminum gable vents. They are receptive to our product because of bad
experiences with our competitors gables. Typically, they list the same complaints.
Suppliers of galvanized vents do not ship the vents properly and the gables arrive with dents in them.
The gable vent supplier is shipping in 6 to 8 weeks.

The Problem Of Gangs And Violence
The problem of gangs and violence are commonly found in Chicago, especially during the night time.
Although the rate seems to be lower compared to the past, the violence rate is still shocking compared
to other states. Therefore, violence in Chicago s neighborhoods and communities cannot be
overlooked. Statistics show that 1,109 school aged youth were shot, and 216 of those were killed in
2010. As a student of UIC, I often receive crime alert emails as violence cases seemed to occur quite
often around the campus area. In order to improve the public security to ensure residents safety, it is
essential to find ways to solve these issues. It is because violence can cause negative effects in many
different aspects. Besides individual s physical well being, it may also lead to some long term
psychological problems; such as anxiety, eating and sleeping problem. Moreover, violence also affects
the community as it became unsafe to live in. The value of the properties will decrease because the
quality of life became worse.
These days, Chicago launched a cure violence program to help prevent the violence, and this program
is managed by the Chicago Project. The social problem this community intervention is trying to
remedy is to lower down the cases of shooting and killings on the streets. As it could be challenging to
change the individuals behaviors within a short period of time, this program focuses on developing
protecting services towards the population that may have an

The Characteristics And Effects Of The Human Brain
The Human Brain is the most important organ in the body. Much like the headquarters of the body.
Without the brain the rest of the body will suffer. The brain also creates different traits and
personalities. How ever when the brain doesn t function properly it will cause many effects to an
individual. These effects can range from minimal to severe, depending on what is wrong with the
brain.
The human brain is protected by a bone structure in a form of a skull. The brain has a light pink, pail,
and noodle look to it. It has lines in the brain to section parts of the brain. The brain feels like jello, it s
stays in place but squishy. Put to much pressure on it, it will break. The human brain is very sensitive.
The human brain is also wet and slimy, like the feeling of boggers. The human brain has its own odd
smell. Like rotting food in the trash. The average brain weighs about three pounds. Robbie Gonzalez
stated Assume it feels solid, firm, almost rubber like. But the brains you encounter in a lab setting
have almost always been fixed and preserved with chemicals like formaldehyde, which have a
dramatic effect on the texture and firmness of tissue like brain matter (Gizmodo). What Robbie is
saying that brains that are in lab class feel different than a fresh brain. The reason why they feel
different is that in the lab their preserved with chemicals. That s what Robbie was talking about.
There are three major components that make up the brain. The Cerebrum, Brainstem,

Our Native American ancestors stumbled upon the hot springs. They referred to it as, The Valley of the
Vapors . The water stays at 143* Fahrenheit and produces almost one million gallons a day. And the
water became so famous that in the year 1541 it drew the attention to Hernando Desoto; a well known
Spanish conquistador. Somewhere in the 1920 s, some of most famous Baseball players had to get a
dose of the spa life. Over 250 players would travel to Hot Springs for off season training. They
ventured to the bathhouses, ran the mountains, and played ball at Whittington Ball Park. When the
Baseball players weren t visiting Hot Springs, some other famous but infamous gang mobsters hid out
in Hot Springs. Hot Springs became a town know for prostitution, bootlegging, and illegal gambling.
Big name mobsters such as: Al Capone, Frank Costello, Bugs Moran, and Lucky Luciano. All of them
used Hot Springs as a hide out when things got tough elsewhere. When Al Capone was in town, he
would stay at the Arlington while his rival gang members stayed at the Majestic. Around the year

Changes In Reading Behavior With all the new advancements with technology our reading behavior
has no choice but to change with us. Author Nicholas Carr states, the Net is becoming a universal
medium, the conduit for most of the information that flows through my eyes and ears and into my
mind . Author Ziming Liu says that we are spending an increasing amount of time reading electronic
documents where a screen based reading behavior is emerging. Our new generation is the digital
media generation. You either need to keep up with it or be swept aside. Change will happen no matter
what. A significant change in which both authors noted was that we no longer can immerse ourselves

Liu isn t worried about books being replaced by the computer, It seems unlikely that the computer will
in the future replace the printed book as medium in the way that it replaced the typewriter as a writing
tool (Liu 702). In a study by the National University of Mexico, 80 percent of students prefer to read a
digital piece of text in print in order to understand the text with clarity. Carr s major worry is if digital
media will take away our ability to think deeply. But it s a different kind of reading, and behind it lies
a different kind of thinking, perhaps even a new sense of the self (Carr). Carr believes the Internet will
basically take over our world. The Internet, an immeasurably powerful computing system, is
subsuming most of our other intellectual technologies. It s becoming our map and our clock, our
printing press and our typewriter, our calculator and our telephone, and our radio and TV

  • 3. It’s Time to Demand More from Corporate America Essay It s Time to Demand More from Corporate America Michael Moore exposes corporate America s dark side in Roger and Me, Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint, and The Big One (Moore). These show that corporate America is committing a form of domestic terrorism by dehumanizing and exploiting their workers then forcing them to the streets to survive. The actions by individuals such as Roger Smith and Phil Knight are perfect examples of capitalists constantly oppressing the working class described by Karl Marx. By dehumanizing workers business owners are able to push them to the streets by closing factories and remain a good public image. Who cares if these degenerate people lose their jobs? The first step in the terrorism plot is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doing manual labor and never getting recognition builds on a person after years causing a dehumanizing effect on them. This is just the beginning of corporate terrorism leading into the later stage. After successfully breaking down the working class the CEO is able to close down factories and move them to countries with lower worker standards to increase profit. This disregard of human life pushes workers to the streets forcing them into poverty. What do these people have to look forward to after losing their homes? They live in dirt, disease, and fear with many having to choose between food and soap (Parker). Now the homeless stand stripped of integrity asking for help. Instead of help they are viewed as criminals. Peter Marin details the thoughts of many people on homeless, Drinking, doping, loitering, panhandling, defecating, urinating, molesting, stealing... (Marin). Why are the homeless being ridiculed? Why not point at those putting these people on the street? People like Roger Smith. Our optimistic heritage stands in the way of recognizing how frequently economic failure occurs. (Newman). Newman sums up the way a majority of Americans are brought up to think. It is a common belief that hard work can accomplish anything, however hard work can not stop corporations from sending jobs overseas. Those that do work hard and lose jobs are still scorned for not being able to find another. In reality any job they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They portray the female as a person who did the cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids while the men are doing the things they want going to work, going out with friends. Looking at the article by Samantha Olsen, it is about where we prepare boys to be tough, not to cry, suck it up if they get hurt or have their feelings hurt and to be a man at a young age. We can see how wrong this is in both articles because females are not a slave to their husbands and boys are not men and need to be able to feel what they want or need to at any age. In the first article, she uses personal experiences to show how men think of women as taking care of all their needs, as well as the children and their needs, also be able to fit in what her needs are while he does what he wants to do. In personal experience, I did not have this type of life we choose to do the chores and the other duties together as a family that works together to help each other not to put more stress on one or the other. In the second article, she writes about how boys are treated differently from girls. They are told if one of your peers also, need to be tough guys not to girls we are weak and emotional. However, the way we hit you hit them back that they are not supposed to cry, don t act that way be a man about it, expect and teach boys to be this big masculine, macho, tough person. In real terms, spending on food has increased 30 percent (over the past 20 years) while incomes have risen 36 percent, according to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry 2012 foodmap report. Thus, this increases the bargaining power of buyers as Australians are able to spend more on food due to a higher gross household income. A restaurant is characterized by their food standards and service standards. The way how food is cooked and its taste differs from restaurant to restaurant. The key to success for restaurants is by differentiation from other restaurants. For example, Manhattan fish market signature dish is their flaming seafood platter whereby their sea cret agent would flame it up when it is served this. While in comparison fish n co serves up their fish and chips in different sauces according to the country s favorite sauce such as for Singapore; Chili crab, India ; Curry and so on. Regulations should be designed in a way that costs are efficiently spent, provided the original regulatory objectives are not compromised (as per Lesson 2, week 2). This normally involves regulators encouraging innovation and allowing for the efficiency of markets (as per Lesson 2, week 2). For example, in an effort to lower the carbon footprint from factory smoke stacks, the government can mandate a new expensive piece of equipment to be installed. Was America justified in destroying a culture in its pursuit of Manifest Destiny, or did they feel it was their only option in this matter at the time? Based on research, I feel that the American policy of Indian removal and relocation was extremely unethical and unjustified in its motives and execution. Before Europeans arrived in present day America, the Native Americans were living on millions of acres of land their ancestors had occupied and cultivated. Many Native Americans were initially somewhat willing to share land with original settlers. However, when settlers began taking land that already belonged to the Natives, ... Cherokee Indians and some Choctaw Indians attempted to follow these guide lines and blend in with Americans, sending their children to schools and some even started to own slaves. Even though many Cherokee and Choctaw Indians tried to assimilate with the American culture, they were still forced out of their homeland and were rarely truly accepted by the white population as anything other than tamer savages. Despite the Native s attempts to conform to society, they were still discriminated against, losing their land, homes, and property. As white settlers began to realize the value of the Native s land, many began to encroach west after the Louisiana Purchase. Settler s wished to use the land for plantations and farms. As the desire and need for more land grew, the state governments began to realize the futility of trying to contain the settlers attitude of Manifest Destiny and they soon joined in making laws that would limit the rights of the Native Americans. • 11. Masculinity in Peter Weir s Gallipoli Essay Question: Discuss the ways in which masculinity is constructed in Gallipoli and / or First Blood? What codes and norms of gender are used to construct masculinity in the film(s)? The perception of masculinity within Australian films is a reflection of our society s views and opinions of what it is to be considered masculine. It is continually reinforced in our society by the constructions of the male character in movies, just like Archie and Frank, in Gallipoli and particular male figures within our nation s history, such as Ned Kelly. Peter Weir s reflection of masculinity through the use of his two main characters Archie and Frank, in his 1981 film Gallipoli, helped to perpetuate this construction of the Aussie male stereotype ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weir demonstrates this type of homosociality in Archie and Frank s friendship by having particular scenes within the movie where the audience watches on as both characters cement their relationship with races for fun in the Egyptian training grounds and climbing the pyramids to leave their names to generations to come in the ancient stones. Similar to that of young love with Frank being the strong male and Archie taking on the role of female. The two characters symbolize the differing attitudes to the war, to personal ambition and even the way they run and how, the way they run, reflect how they live. Archie s sacrifice is the apotheosis of greater love when he takes Franks place in the line symbolizing an act of a hero. But like all heroes Frank and Archie must undergo shared trials, such as crossing the desert before they can attempt to enlist, as well as both, having to suffer the individual humiliation of being rejected into the army. They weren t swashbucklers, but they were a kind of warrior class Isolating the characters from their positions in a way of dramatic irony and representing them ignorant of the causes and horrors of war, strengthens the sense of the lost generation s innocence and the growth of a national understanding since the end of the imperial compliance. • 12. Causes And Effects Of Urbanization In both developed and developing countries of the world, urban centers have been an alternative center for human settlement and hence, the rate of urbanization is increasing at the turn of this century. Recent studies indicate that at the beginning of the twentieth century, only 10% of the world s population lived in urban areas. However, currently, half of the world s population has become urban dwellers (UNCHS, 2002). This shows that urbanization all over the world is expanding from time to time and the change has vast implication on the living conditions of the urban society. Due to rapid urbanization, the concentration of people especially, in cities and towns of developing countries increasingly aggravated the problem of housing. A large proportion of residents in cities and towns developed as well as developing countries are tenants (UN HABITAT, 2003).Urbanization has been the dominant demographic trend in the entire world during the last half century (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/289971629 accessed on 30 November 2017). Demographic variables such as population size, growth rates, and growth levels have major impacts on the demand for urban social and economic infrastructure (Girma, 2004). The level of urbanization in the world as a whole was about 46.6 percent in 2000, 50.6 percent in 2010 and it is supposed to reach 57.2 percent in 2025. The corresponding figures for African countries are 36.0 percent, 40.0 percent, and 47.2 percent respectively. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, the Big Five personality test and what technique is used to study personality. Difference Facets relating Dispositional, and Evolutionary Theory The premises of dispositional theories fluctuate from those of other theorists because they present the basis of study for personality; Dispositional theorists believe that behavior is significant and adaptive. People don t merely adapt to their environments, but are also aware of their environment and relate to it, in order to shape their social environment (Feist, 2013). Dispositional theory argues that personality is not an unchanging structure, but unpredictable because of our psychological and physical originalities. Allport describes personality as a dynamic organization present in all humans which influence one s psychophysical structures and determines their characteristic behavior and cognitive functions (Feist, 2013). This is very important because any change in the condition of the skin may often be an indication of underlying disease Injury of either the epidermis or the dermis can result in systemic infection, increased morbidity, increased cost of care, and negative psychosocial consequences (Schindler, Kuhn, Christopher, Conway, Ridling Simpson; 2011). Wound healing is a very complex process. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative phase, and the maturational or remodeling phase. These phases might overlap at times (Porth, 2011). Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory phase starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood clot and the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound site. The first cells to arrive, the neutrophils, ingest and remove bacteria and cellular debris. After twenty four hours, the neutrophils are joined by macrophages that continue to ingest cellular debris and play an important role in the production of growth factors for the proliferative phase (Porth, 2011). Next, the plaintiff argued that the ruling in the D.C. On this issue, the defendant argued that Congress correctly determined that Section 5 continues to ward off discrimination in voting that would violate the Constitution. Third, the plaintiff argued that even if preclearance is justified, the coverage formula is not rational since it is based on decades old data and also because the factors that are considered are first generation ballot access issues, while the Voting Rights Act is meant to defeat second generation problems such as vote dilution. It is crucial for QI teams and researchers to understand variation in data to avoid making errors in interpretation, though in practice, many QI teams do not have sufficient biostatistical training to be able to interpret their data with confidence. The practical power of SPC is that people who are not statisticians can bring significant statistical rigor to their quantitative data in an intuitive format by understanding just a few simple, pattern based rules to distinguish special cause variation (i.e., signals) from common cause variation (i.e., noise). Distinguishing special and common cause variation is critical to understanding whether changes you are making result in improvement (i.e., is there a signal of change present?). Among all of the SPC tools, control charts have the most power to distinguish common from special cause variation. The public s view of James II went from optimistic to cynical because of the King s refusal to take action against the French. In conjunction with a declining support, James II and his wife had produced a male heir in the summer of 1688, insuring that a catholic would inherit the throne. When James II inherited the throne in 1685, the public expected James II to take action against the French monarch King Louis XIV. The English people feared King Louis XIV s would try to create a universal monarch. If Louis XIV had created a universal monarch, all other countries would have lost their independence. For the English, it would have meant the end to the national identity they all valued. Unfortunately for James II, he did not take action against France. Instead, many believed and feared that James II wanted to change the English government to one modeled after the French Government. This fear escalated when James II attempted to suspend the test acts by issuing the Declaration of Indulgence. Although this declaration was supposed to encourage religious tolerance, many English citizens did not view it that way. They viewed it as treat to the established parliament in England. This increased fears because many compared James II declaration to Louis XIV s acts when he invaded the supreme legal authority of France. Because of their fear of being Frenchified, the English invited the Prince of Orange to invade England, starting the revolution. To justify this action, Pincus describes it best. He said, English loyalty was primarily to English law and English customs [national identity] rather than a particular monarch. Since James had violated that law, he ceased to be an English king and was no longer owed obedience. In the end, the Prince of Orange arrived with the support of the majority of the English. Summary Of Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink In Chapter 2 of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell insist that what we think of as freewill is largely an illusion: much of the time, we are simply operating on automatic pilot, and the way we think and act and how we think and act on the spur of the moment are a lot more susceptible to outside influences than we realize. (58). Gladwell is referring to priming, as human beings, our behavior and decision making are often influenced by subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of. As humans we are vulnerable to the most subtle stimuli. Gladwell provides examples of priming with different types of exams and games administered to college students. An area where priming occurs on a daily occurrence is at the grocery store because the products sold are strategically placed on the shelves to target a specific audience company s want to sell their product to, the price tag are designed with colors that we associates subconsciously with spending, and there are signs located all around the store that tell you that you ll be saving money so that you buy more of that certain product or so you are more likely to shop at that particular store. Priming is when subtle triggers we are either aware of or not aware of influence our behavior. Gladwell has the reader imagine that he is a professor proctoring a scrambled sentence test where students were asked to walk down a long hallway into an exam room where they were given an exam with a list of five word sets and asked to change each word set into a grammatically four word sentence as fast as possible. The test was not difficult but the college students walked down the hallway more slowly than they walked towards the classroom. This is because ingrained in the list were certain words that were associated with being old. This test, which was developed by a clever psychologist named John Bargh, makes our adaptive unconsciousness ponder about the state of being old. Further research suggests that individuals can be primed to behave differently, various words may be used to influence people to be polite or rude. The Myth Of Epic Of Gilgamesh Sam Khidir History 10 Professor Chrissanthos 4 October, 2016 From Myth to Religion The Sumerian myth Epic of Gilgamesh is known to be the oldest written fictional story of all time. The original script, discovered on 12 clay tablets in ancient Sumeria, covers the adventures of a real historical figure (Ralph): the Sumarian King of Uruk, who lived sometime between the years 2750 and 2500 B.C. (Epic) The adventures of Gilgamesh were so popular among the people of that era (the earliest written versions of the story dating to 2000 B.C.) that after centuries of being told and retold, they soon became pure fiction. To fix this problem people need to learn to self love, respect themselves, and understand that people on TV were given the job because of the way they look to appeal to the audience. First of all, since the growth of the Internet in 1980s the public has been bombarded with media driven ideas of what characteristics are desirable for men and women. Women tend to want to look like models they see on advertisements which is usually thin with nice curves. Men also tend to want to look like models on advertisements, which consists of being tall, slender, muscular, and toned. Overall, men and women want to keep changing ... • 34. The Ever Increasing Urgancy for World Peace The 20th century can be credited as being one of the most violent times in recorded history. There were over 98 million war related deaths, which is about six times the combined deaths of both the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Orwell conveys each of these killings as one mind less, one world less. World peace would be an important goal to work towards. Many wanted to achieve world peace, however, there were many different visions for how this could be accomplished. The process of arbitration allowed the U.S. to extend legal concepts to foreign relations, without compromising U.S. freedom of action. One of the earliest arms control conferences was the Washington Disarmament Conference, organized by Charles Evans Hughs who sought the promotion of peace via disarmament and outlawry of war. With the U.S. being a world power, though arbitration, the U.S. could levy this power with conflicting parties in hope of peace. During this time, reduction of armament was an integral part of the Republicans diplomatic strategy.5 During the Washington Conference, Hughes pulled off a diplomatic tour de force, one of the first major international agreement on arms reduction that has yet to be negotiated.6 After months of negotiations, five countries agree to limit their number of battleships, establishing a 5:3:3 ratio in battleship tonnage to the United States and a reduction in ... This trend in production started in the late 1960 s as a result of the economic and cultural influences on the film industry of that time. The following essay looks at how those influences helped to shape a new genre in the film industry, sighting Easy Rider as a main example, and suggests some possible reasons for the relatively short popularity of the genre. The standard story of the counterculture begins with an account of the social order against which it rebelled, a social order that was known to just about everyone by 1960 as the mass society. The last half of the 1960 s saw the emergence of seemingly new cultures among young people, which were promptly collapsed under the label youth culture by adults. Even so, these cultures were neither entirely novel, nor limited to young people, nor so homogeneous as to be described by one label. (Grans, Comparative Analysis) Part of what made this movement so distinguishable at the time was the rebellion against the fashion industry, as well as social norms. It was relatively easy to pick out which people sympathized with the movement, especially with the characteristic male look of the Jesus Christ hair and beard. They dressed to highlight their freakiness, combining clothes of other times and cultures. Hamlet Loyalty Analysis To be Loyal or not to be Loyal To be or not to be (127) is deciphered in Hamlet as whether or not Hamlet wants to live or die, but adding (a) simple word(s) in the quote can change its meaning. To be loyal or not to be loyal. Loyalty comes out of love; if you love someone you ll put them before others. Being loyal,( no comma?) is staying with someone through all the hardships and trials they face. Hamlet was very loyal to his father. He loved his father, and when his father died Hamlet was miserable. Until the day, when his father s ghost appeared and revealed to Hamlet that his father s death was caused by the most unnatural murder (57). His loyalty towards his father caused him to seek revenge because he adored his father dearly. Even though people showed fondness towards King Hamlet, there were some who lusted for what he had. King Hamlet had everything he ever needed, but that didn t go over well with his vile brother, Claudius, who wanted King Hamlet s fortune, crown, and wife. Claudius is a prime example of lacking loyalty. Claudius pleasure and jealousy caused him to murder his brother. Family should be loyal to each other; Claudius was I m not saying that you can t argue with them, but you should never betray them. Not only did Claudius display lack of loyalty but Hamlet did as well. Hamlet didn t believe that he should show loyalty towards the villain who murdered his beloved father. Hamlet wouldn t listen to Claudius when he told Hamlet to remain in Denmark instead of going back to Wittenberg. Hamlet wasn t loyal to the king but that doesn t mean he wasn t loyal to the queen. He loved his mother but he didn t know why she had to marry so quickly after his father s death or why she married his uncle, but through those hard times he still loved and obeyed her. When he saw the emotional distressed woman begging him to Let not thy mother lose her prayers, Hamlet: I pray thee, stay with us; go not to Wittenberg (29).
