 Geography: the study of the physical features of the earth
and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is
affected by these, including the distribution of populations
and resources, land use, and industries
 There are 2 branches of geography:
 Physical Geography: the study of the processes and patterns in
the natural environment
 Human Geography: the branch of geography dealing with how
human activity affects or is influenced by the earth's surface

 Ocean: a very large expanse of sea, in particular, each

5. Longitude & Latitude
 Longitude: a
geographic
coordinate that
specifies the east-west
position of a
point on the
Earth’s surface
 Vertical
 Latitude: the
distance of a
place north or
south of the
Earth's equator
 Horizontal

6. Prime Meridian & Equator
 Prime Meridian: separates
the Eastern and Western
Hemispheres, it runs
through Greenwich,
England and is at 0
degrees longitude
 Equator: an imaginary line
drawn around the earth
equally distant from both
poles, dividing the earth
into northern and
southern hemispheres and
is at 0 degrees latitude

7. Hemisphere
 Hemisphere: half of a sphere
 A half of the earth:
 Northern & Southern halves divided by the equator
 Eastern & Western halves divided by the prime meridian
