North or Central Asia Characterized by continuous cover of plants or grasslands. Grasslands: lacking in trees
North or Central Asia 3 types: Steppes: shallow-rooted grasses Western portion of the Black Sea eastward beyond Lake Balkash. Kyrgyz Steppe; patches can also be found in Manchuria and the Ordos Desert in East Asia Prairies: tall and deep-rooted grasses Located on the northern side of the Russian steppes and in Manchuria Savannas: mingling of forests and grasslands Found in Southeast Asia and the African continent
North or Central Asia Boreal Forest (Taiga) 17% of the total land area of the Earth In Russia, it means marshy pine forest Coniferous Usually located in areas south of tundras and north of grasslands Can be found in Siberia Climate is cool, rain and snow occurs less
North or Central Asia Tundras: Can also be found in Russia Finnish word TUNTURIA (treeless plain) Seldom inhabit the place
North or Central Asia Home to the deepest lake in the world     LAKE BAIKAL Maximum depth: 1,620 meters
West asia Includes the Northern Tier, Arabian Peninsula and the Fertile Crescent Characterized by the presence of mountains and plateaus (Turkey and Iran). Anatolian Plateau (supports farming) Iranian plateau: land is dry Large population Sparse population
Northern portion: Hindu Kush and Himalayas Southern portion: Bodies of water (Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal) Himalayan Mountain range Mt. Everest Mt. Kanchenjunga Hindu Kush  Khyber pass (Gateway to India) SOUTH ASIA
Gobi desert, Mongolian and Tibetan Plateaus, and the Himalayas EAST ASIA
