Semiconductor companies are developing ever faster wireless, wired and optical interfaces to satisfy the need for higher data throughputs. They rely on BiCMOS, advanced CMOS and FinFET nodes with ESD-sensitive circuits. However, the parasitic capacitance of the traditional ESD solutions limits the signal frequency. This paper demonstrates small area and low-cap Analog I/Os used in TSMC 28nm CMOS and TSMC 16nm, 12nm, 7nm FinFET technologies for high speed SerDes (28Gbps to 112Gbps) circuits. Parasitic capacitance of the ESD solutions is reduced below 100fF and for some silicon photonics applications even below 20fF.

The Rotterdam Capture and Storage Demonstration Project (ROAD) has completed a report for the Global CCS Institute to investigate issues surrounding CCS operation under different operating conditions, including start-up, shutdown and emergencies. Various strategies have been developed to provide robust, safe, and efficient operating solutions at different focal points along the CO2 chain, including the compression unit, the transport, and the injection platform.
At this webinar, Jan Uilenreef, Project Manager Transport & Storage, ROAD | Maasvlakte CCS Project C.V., presetned the findings about the CCS CO2 chain operation based on the practice of ROAD, as well as some recommendations for future CCS projects operation.
2015 Foundations for larger and deeper Offshore Wind MEC Intelligence
For offshore wind farms installations, foundation selection plays an important role in the overall concept design as there are large financial implications attached to the choices made. Foundation costs are primarily driven by material & installation costs and have been considered in this report.
New foundation designs have lower costs as turbines become larger and installed in deeper sea. For instance, 6 MW, new foundations are ~4-20% lower in material cost when compared to monopiles & jackets while for turbine sizes 8 MW and larger, new designs reduce the cost by ~21-24%. Cost reduction potential of 5-15% is observed for foundations at selected 5 farms in Europe. However, developers need to manage risk and other associated premium costs with appropriate contracting.
This reports presents detailed and fact based evaluation of foundations technologies for larger & deeper offshore wind farms. It also offers an evaluation of innovations that could assist in driving down the cost of the installation of foundation for offshore wind farm operations.

CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
