Human Tissue Essay
We have known the amazing benefits of human tissue in medical research. These cells have
helped with some of the most important advances in the sciences. They are used to develop
vaccines for rabies, smallpox, and measles or used for radiation, drugs, cosmetics and viruses
research which launched a million dollar industry [ Skloot, 316]. They have been used to find the
cure for multibillion people, including most of us today. However, not that many people know
where are these tissues come from or the stories of the donors who were desperate to protect their
bodily rights and propertyrights. Most of the patients in the late 1950s have not been asked if they
want to contribute their tissues to science, which has raised the debate over... Show more content on

(2) Whether the people whose made the cells or the scientists who developed the cells into
valuable products own the cells? This is a complex issue which no body of laws, policies or ethics
applied directly. No U.S statutes or judicial precedents have specifically indicated the ownership
over human tissues and cells.
The informed consent and the disclosure of potential cells that could be developed into a
commercial product is to respect research subject s autonomy. It s a way to ask whether they
want to participate in the study. As technology progresses, the people who are affected by the
researches increased. Because of the power of genetics, you can study these materials and find
out secrets about a person and his or her relatives, says Arthur L.Capian, director of the Center
Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia [Strauss, 190]. Science now has the
ability to identify genes from a single cell, it was no longer using tissue scraps for experiments it
was that someone could uncover the research subjects s genetic information and violate their
privacy and their children s privacy. In 1976, John Moore s case doctor,David Golde has used his
cell to develop, market and patent a cell line called MO. Patenting cell lines did not require
informing or getting permission from the donors during that

Reduce Energy Usage
Strategies to Reduce Energy Usage in Offices and increase IT Sustainability
Research Studies by Intel Corporation.
According to an Intel White Paper of December 2009, Intel reported these studies about reduction
of energy usage in offices.
Evaluating Enabling Technologies
Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade companies have
shifted to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily, in an effort to increase
employee productivity. A secondary benefit has been to significantly improve energy efficiency. To
determine the factors that affect office power consumption, and further improve energy efficiency,
Intel conducted a power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intel s studies have shown that raising employees awareness of how much power their equipment
is consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in
reducing energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company:
Intel conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by
showing employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off
a printer when it s not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first
established a baseline of energy consumption through real time metering of energy use in 12
cubicles. In one group, they focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days,
Intel provided this group with information on how much energy they were using, and how much it
cost. They did not provide any other information or requests to change behavior to the members of
this group. For the second group they installed a third party software agent that deployed and
enforced power management profiles. The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after
ten minutes of idle time, and to put the PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two
additional weeks of real time metering, Intel examined the energy use of the two groups.

Comparison Of King Lear And The Great Gatsby
King Lear and Jay Gatsby are both influential and wealthy men consumed by obsession and lose
everything in their desperate pursuit of love. This is their tragic flaw; and one that ultimately leads
to their demise.
Within Shakespeare s King Lear and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the following
human flaws are explored: obsession, greed, yearning, and loss. These flaws are a commonality
between these two characters. Although these flaws are standard for many characters among
many genres, they are unique only to Lear and Gatsby because they lead to their death. Lear and
Gatsby share a dream of power and love, but this dream slowly becomes an unhealthy obsession.
King Lear is so blinded by his love for his daughters that he does not see that they are only using
him for his wealth. Jay Gatsby shares a mutual experience; he is oblivious to Daisy Buchanan s
materialistic and selfish ways and is helpless to her charms. In Act Two of King Lear, the Fool
tells the King ...fathers that bear bags shall see their children kind. (2.4 49 50), a premonition that
clearly illustrates how Lear s daughters love him only for his riches. Both men are bound by their
mutual suffering caused by the women that dominate their lives. It is obvious in The Great Gatsby
that Daisy Buchanan is a woman who only has eyes for powerful men and when she realizes that
Gatsby is a self made millionaire, she casts him aside. The same occurs in King Lear; Goneril and
Regan only proclaim to love their

Case Study Six Sigma
1. Introduction
When we talk about getting lean it is usually in regards to losing excess weight and strengthening
a new body that is lighter and capable of doing more in an efficient way. The same principle
applies when Lean Six Sigma methods are applied to business operations. Simply put, this process
is all about cost reduction and increased profits.
Founded by Motorola, USA in 1986, Six Sigma is a strategy that optimizes the process of
outputting products and services by getting rid of errors so that results are always constant and
always growing. The term Six Sigma is one that comes from the manufacturing sector, in particular

The Villa Borghese
Baroque art encompasses a broad range of art from Dutch genre paintings to dramatic and theatrical
Italian pieces. Because of the religious, socio economic, and political events of the time, Baroque
art can hardly been contained into one description. Politically, the rulers and monarchies used
commissioned art to emphasize assert their authority, power and right to rule. Religiously, the
Reformation caused the Catholic Church to commission provoking pieces of piety and devotion.
And Socio economically, the rising middle class in many areas of Europe wanted pieces of art to
further improve prestige in the social scene and improve their reputation. These three developments
that came with the transition from the Renaissance age to the Baroque... Show more content on

The Villa Borghese, owned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, was a place where visitors would view,
respond and discuss the immense collection of art, which brought together both antique and
modern pieces of art. Many of the pieces were a mix of old and new works and artists were
commissioned to give unified fragments a character in the collection, showing the new way of
inventiveness at the end of the seventeenth century. During this specific time, artists such as Gian
Lorenzo Bernini were huge influencers in the art world. His pieces Apollo and Daphne, 1623 4;
Rape of Proserpina, 1621 2; and Hermaphrodite, unknown, depict the story of ancient myths, and
were commissioned to be conversation pieces that generate multiple meanings, senses of
realism, and juxtapositions. The Cardinal also trusted Bernini to create a bust of himself title
Cardinal Scipione Borghese, in 1632. The piece was executed beautifully and portraying a
lively Cardinal, so realistic in its depiction that the only thing missing was speech. The piece
helped to endorse Scipione s social positions and prestige. The spectators would discuss the
different stories behind the pieces as they moved around and saw the changing points of view as
well as marveled at Bernini s ability to create artistic illusion and make marble look like leaves,
skin, bark, and hair. Scipione s Villa included a vast collection that displayed the history of artistic

International Students Cope With Eating American Cuisine...
Summary Paragraph: One of the many issues that international students face is coping with
American food. With food being linked to culture, international students must face one of the
hardest tasks when coming to America, eating someone else s culture while neglecting their own. In
this research project, I will investigate how international students cope with eating American cuisine
or what measures they take to avoid it. Introduction: Nothing represents a culture better than food.
Food is the fastest way for people to bond and experience one another s culture. Thousands of
students travel from international colleges and universities. These people spend most of their life
eating different foods, foods that they are accustomed to and are naturally born to like. Before
starting college, I never gave any thought of how international students feel about consuming food
of another culture for entire year or in some cases, for multiple years. This is what gave me the idea
to study the culture of international students, including their practices and daily routines. According
to The Kansas State Collegian [daily newspaper at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas],
international students attending the University share a fear of gaining weight from eating
American food. American food is portrayed to them as greasy and not very diverse . Tang, an
international student, who attends KSU claims that in China, her friends would worry for her
weight, making her watch what she

The Area Of Interest, Livestock, Grazing, And Urban And...
Introduction
The area of interest is located in the San Joaquin Valley, California, primarily in the western part
of Fresno County, California. The primary land uses in the region are irrigated cropland,
livestock, grazing, and urban and home development (USDA 2015). Other land uses include
recreation and wildlife habitats. The land survey of the region consists of series of straight lines
delineating fields of crops, typically running north to south. A series of squares dominates the
aerial view of the region. The region experiences hot and dry summers with an average July high
of 92В°F and has historically experienced cool and rainy winters with an average January low of
38В°F which normally lasts between November and April. However,... Show more content on

The rest of the area contains natural areas (trees shrubs) with 15.9% (1,928.1 acres) and water with
0.6% (73.7 acres). In 2014, the gross value of Fresno County agriculture production exceeded
seven billion dollars. Almonds was the number one crop at a value of $1.3 billion and grapes was
a close second at $905 million (County of Fresno, Department of Agriculture 2015). Other important
crops include poultry ($654 million), milk ($636 million), tomatoes ($524 million), pistachios
($378 million), garlic ($202 million), and cotton ($135 million).
The diversity, high total acreage and crop yield are the result of favorable factors; the
Mediterranean climate, long growing seasons, productive soils, and readily available and plentiful
irrigation. Agricultural operations in the area have significant and permanent impact on the
properties and management of the soils in the study area. Farming practices such as land leveling
and irrigation impacts surface soils and deeper soil profiles due to the percolation of irrigation
water. The current drought afflicting the region has increased the number of fallow acres steadily
because of the relative unreliability of the water supply. The lack of surface water availability has
forced farmers to turn more to groundwater to irrigate their crops. The pumping of water from deep
wells and increased consumption of ground water contributes to ground subsidence which in turn,
affects the geomorphology of the

When competitors offer a lower price, it will enhance the possibility of the customer changing the
purchase behavior (Wathne et al., 2001), and also undermine the consumer s consumption inertia
for the original company. The study found that there are three issues existing in the studies of
customer purchasing behavior in the fast food industry: (1) Why can consumers rapidly return in
such a short period of time after a fast food industry negative news outbreak, or even not be
impacted at all. Therefore, regarding the factors that impact customer loyalty in the fast food
industry, in addition to customer satisfaction, are there any other important impact factors? (2) The
fast food industry is different from the general food retailer. It has the characteristics of being rapid,
convenient, and having a low price; however, the commonly seen customer satisfaction model (e.g.
American Customer Satisfaction Index; European Customer
Customer Satisfaction Index) cannot really present these characteristics. (3) Inertial behavior exists
in the food purchasing behavior (Carrasco et al., 2005). However, there have been no scholars who
have applied it to explore the relation between customer satisfaction and loyalty in the fast food
industry. It can be seen that there is an important study gap that exists in the exploration of
customer satisfaction and loyalty in the fast food industry; therefore,

Definition Of A Neutral Question
There is no such thing as a neutral question. Evaluate this statement with reference to two areas
of knowledge. In order to evaluate this statement, we must clearly understand what is a neutral
question. A definition of a neutral question can be: A question asked in such a way that it does
not imply personal opinion or bias. I assume that a true question has to be neutral. If a question
reveals to be non neutral, the objectivity that defines a question doesn t exist anymore. It
becomes a statement or a judgement with a question make up. To develop the evaluation of this
statement, we have to figure out what are the conditions for a question to be neutral. The point
of a question is to request knowledge or information; it gives control over the direction taken to
fill in the request. One could argue that the initial choice of what question is asked, in itself, is a
form of bias and on those grounds, neutrality is impossible any time there is a question. For this
reason, it might be good to think of neutrality on a continuum with some questions being more
neutral than others. Examples of neutral questions can be identified as: Can you describe the
kind of information you would like to find? Or what are you hoping to find? A neutral question
can then be defined as a bias free enquiry for knowledge. For my Areas of Knowledge I will be
referencing Ethics and Natural sciences. What is neutrality? Neutrality is about not going forward
or backward or taking a side. Neutrality

Secrets and Style of Sir Poe Gothic fiction is the strange, dark, spooky, and supernatural writing
style loved by readers of all ages. Most of the stories written in the Gothic style were centered in
the gothic medieval period. Several renowned books like The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston
Leroux and The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo were written in this style. Edgar Allan
Poe was one well known Gothic writer and poet from the early eighteen hundreds; he was
especially famous for his tales of mystery and macabre. A popular dark short story, The Tell Tale

Therefore, the metaphors used by Poe supports the sinister mood of the short story and poem.
Diction, or word choice, is also used in The Tell Tale Heart and The Raven to indirectly
characterize the narrator and speaker. The narrator of The Tell Tale Heart, upon spying the
vulture eye of the old man, depicts it as all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over [the eye] that
chilled the very marrow in [his] bones (Poe 355). Through using the word hideous and the
phrase chilled the very marrow in [his] bones , the narrator blatantly reveals his wariness
towards the old man s eye. The narrator feels threatened by the eye, which indirectly
characterizes him as insane because it is unnatural for people to feel terrorized by appearance.
Additionally, the speaker in The Raven claims that while he dreams about Lenore in the
presence of the raven, the air [grows] denser, perfumed from an unseen censer / Swung by
Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor (Poe 79, 80). Censer and Seraphim are two
words that express the speaker s longing for Lenore, as a censer is a covered incense burner
usually used in funerals, and Seraphim is an order of angels from Heaven. The reference to angels
and funerals indirectly characterizes the speaker as

Why Golf Is Important Essay
First I would like to say, that to many people, even the word golf sounds boring. I do admit, that I
have thought that at times. Still, try to trust me. Golf can actually be a fun and rewarding sport.
Here is why you should give golf an honest effort to see if you like it for yourself.
Everybody get angry in life. However, did you know that playing golf can help. Here is why. Did
you know that 1 in 5 kids in the U.S. have anger issues every year? Well, golf could help you with
that because having a bad day on the course can be really stressful. Furthermore, if you play golf
enough, you learn to control your emotions (at one point). And when you learn to control your
emotions, it can lead to better behavior. Also, being able to control your emotions is just a good
thing. You have to control your emotions every day. But if you don t ever learn to do so,... Show

Yet, most of us just ignore it. But by playing golf, that could be fixed. Have you always wanted
good grades? Yet you don t have the patience to study, and never get a good grade? Well, if you
have the patience to, you might find that good grade you have been looking for. If you still don t
understand how playing golf could help you get a better grade, here is how. By playing golf you
slowly can start to have better patience, therefore allowing you to also have the tolerance to
study. By studying more you are likely to get a better grade. Patience is also a very important
skill to have in life, so why not have it? Like I said in the beginning, patience isn t something that
comes naturally to all of us. However, when you do have patience you start using it every day,
you just don t realize it. Even though you don t know you use patience every day you actually do.
Times like waiting in the lunch line, reading a book when the teacher is doing something or maybe
waiting on the bus, and so much more. Yet this is just another reason for you to play golf

Unrealistic Beauty Standards
Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does DOVE Campaign for Real Beauty
People need to be informed on the issue that unrealistic beauty standards, set by the society, are
harmful. These standards cause a schema that combines three fundamental components: the
idealization of slenderness, an irrational fear of fat, and a belief that weight is a central determinant
of one s identity (Lintott 67). Our society promotes a specific body image as being attractive: being
thin. It is represented throughout mass media, both in the physical and online worlds. The media
exposes individuals, especially women, to impractical body types. Today, negative body image
encourages women to engage in disordered eating behaviors to fit an impractical standard of
beauty. In fact, according to the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA), 20 million females
will suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life (Lintott 68). We
contribute so much time striving to look like what society wants us to resemble. Some individuals
believe that this thin ideal is the norm and that the media is not causing any harm. But, this thin
ideal is detrimental. It is the main reason for the increase in the development and encouragement in
eating disorders, body dissatisfaction in women and a rise in the number of pro anorexia websites.
Throughout history, beauty standards have been changing with time. What was seen as beauty
years ago has now changed. At the

National Incident Management System Summary
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was put in to place to be a proactive approach
to manage incidents involving threats and hazards. It was designed for all levels of government,
nongovernmental organizations, and the private sector to work together to reduce the loss of life,
property, and harm to the environment (National Incident ManagementSystem, 2016). A
fundamental part of managing threats and hazards is to set up an Incident Command System
(ICS). An ICS provides consistency and standardization for dealing with a threat or hazard such as
a weapon of mass destruction incident. Weapons of mass destruction (WMD) can be biological,
chemical, radiological, or a mass explosion. First responders to the attack are tasked with patient
assessment, and they are usually the first ones to determine what type of an attack it is. If the
attack is determined to be biological, chemical, radiological; then an ICS is set up and takes over
control. The incident command will be the ultimate decision maker for the control of the incident.
The ICS has an Incident Commander and their staff will make operational decisions and allocate
resources to implement these decisions. The ICS is the framework necessary to manage the

construction boom period when China started to introduce international architects and internal
migrant workers, their influence and affect on Chinese modern architecture.
Background of Contemporary Architecture and construction/ The Globalisation influence
( Chinese modern architecture: more influenced by the west)
In retrospect, this boom is solely responsible for modern China s architectural movement, and this
only truly began in the last 15 years. Just 20 years ago, there were no private architectural firms in
China, only state run institutes. Due to the huge demands of the rapid urbanisation of Mainland
China starting from 2008 olympics, there was a sudden need for architects and planners to facilitate
construction, and this itself forced a transition in architectural production to take place, as the local
workforce both architects and labourers did not possess the necessary capacity alone. This led to an
influx of international architects and migrant workers into China.
One might say that the construction boom is a golden opportunity for millions of people to earn a
decent salary and improve their living standards, moving on from poverty. In fact, the Olympics
attracted millions of migrant workers from the rural villages. From an economics point of view, this
is an opportunity to stimulate the economy

Analysis Of Schuman s Speech
The Schuman Declaration is the foundation of the European project that we live in today. In his
speech on 9 May, 1950, Robert Schuman proposed to pool France and Germany s Coal and Steel
production together for the greater purpose to create peace and safeguard Europe. For some it
came as a surprise because only five years passed since devastating World War II came to an end.
Withal, it gives room for interpretation and speculations. Therefore, this paper will analyse the real
motivation of Robert Schumanwhether his intentions were primary to secure peace in Europe or
whether, he had something different and lower intentions in mind.

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Children
The question is why children are being affected by these games. Is it that the child are
mimicking what they see or is it effecting the child s brain. At Indiana University, Dr. Vincent
Matthews decided to create a study to watch brain patterns after playing violent video games.
They performed three different tests to find out how these games impacted the brain. They
picked out 28 students from campus to play either violent video games, first person shooter
games, or non violent games. What they found was after a couple hours playing these games
that those who play violent video games showed no brain activity in areas involving emotions,
attention, and impulses. There is science behind violent video games and their negative effects
on people. Researchers ran another test after the participants played the games. They held up
cards with non violent words like run or walk, and they were in different colors. They also held
up cards with violent words like hit or push which were also in different colors. Those who play
violent video games were equal to the non violent video gameplayers in the original testing but
when it came to the violent words, violent video gamers should no brain activity in the area of
emotion like the non violent gamers. When faced with violent topics, the gamers were desensitized
to the topic. Alice Park stated in her article, How Playing Violent Video Games May Change the
Brain, The brain changes that Matthews group saw were similar to those seen in

The Importance Of The English Bill Of Rights Of 1689
Such as the Magna Carta, this had placed limits on the power of the British monarch. England s
Parliament emerged as a force that the king had to depend on to pay for wars and to finance the
royal government. Like the Parliament, the assemblies that developed in the Thirteen Colonies
controlled their colony s funds, and the assemblies had some control over colonial governors. The
English Bill of Rights of 1689 provided another important model for Americans and many thought
that the Constitution also needed a bill of rights. The thinkers and Framers also got many of their
ideas from the European writers of the Enlightenment. James Madison and other architects of the
Constitution were familiar with the work of John Locke and Baron de Montesquieu

The New Business Of Emerson
In the year of 1888 a company by the name of ASCO was founded, and the company still exists
today but they are now known as the popular business of Emerson. They were manufacturers of
elevators, compressors and generator controls. But in the year of 1889 a man by the name of
Almon Strowger created the basis for the first practical telephone switchthat would later develop
into a large scale system that could hold many phone lines at once. Strowger s original switch had
a 10x10 contact bank that allowed it to hold up to 100 different telephones. That doesn t seem like
a lot but based on the year, this is an innovation that would help change the communication world
for the better. In the Strowger switch, pulses generated by a telephone user directly moved
electromagnetic contacts in a two way motion in a stack of rotary contacts, then a telephone
number, selected one digit at a time, without operator use could be dialed and connected. (http:/

first being uniselector which is operated by a selector that is in the starting position and has a
moving contact on the end of it called a wiper. These wipers are used to make electrical connection
to the bank contacts or phone lines. The wipers were operated by an electromagnet called a driving
magnet. Current would flow through the windings of the magnet which would cause an attraction
of the armature to establish a connection. As an input

Comparing The Book And The 1932 Film Murders
After reading and watching both the book and the 1932 film Murders in the Rue Morgue. It is
evident that the film went mostly it s own way, taking only small bits from Poe s actual story,
discarding many important details.
The book starts out with an intricate explanation of the analytical mind. As that is our introduction;
it floats into our narrator recounting his acquaintance with another named: C. Auguste Dupin, whom
our narrator recalls was very fond of books; having met him at an obscure library in the Rue
Montmartre, they were searching for the same unique text. This accidental meeting brought
them closer together, seeing each other frequently. Our narrator is fascinated with his new
friend s family history, which he was told many times. And is enthralled by Dupin s love of
literature. It is then detailed how our narrator gives himself up to Dupin s flights of fancy,
letting himself be sucked into a vortex of fey dreams. Prone to prowling the streets at night,
conversing amongst themselves. He then praises his friend s analytical inclination, his skills of
observation proved by a little chat about a play and a fruiterer. While they are taking one of their
many jaunts around Paris, the pair come across a newspaper describing a ghoulish unsolved case
involving the murder of a woman: Lady L Espanaye and her daughter Camille. It seems the
Madame was found with her neck so ravaged, her head just fell off when moved. Her daughter

Red Blood Cell and E.g. Sickle-cell Anemia Essay
Anemia is not considerate to be a specific disease; it is a manifestation of many abnormal

marrow damaged by toxins, radiation, or chemotherapy; renal disease; malignancy; chronic
infection; overactive spleen; or bleeding from a tract or organ. The incidence of anemia in the world

Vegetarians:
Vegetarians and people who do not consume red meat are more apt to be iron deficient.
Meat sources of iron, also called heme iron, such pork, beef and lamb are among the richest sources
of iron. Heme sources of iron are best absorbed and utilized by the body.
Non heme sources such as the iron in beans, grains and vegetables is not nearly as well absorbed
by the body. Absorption: The capacity of the body to absorb iron from the diet is a crucial factor
for developing iron stores and maintaining functional iron. When the body has trouble absorbing
iron from foods or when iron is lost through cellular break down, iron deficiency anemia is likely
to occur. When the above mechanisms are overwhelmed by the increasing magnitude of the
anemia, or when the demands of physical activity or intercurrent illness overwhelm them, a
clinical disease state becomes apparent to the physician and to the patient. The severity of
clinical symptoms bears less relationship to the severity of the anemia than to the length of time
over which the condition develops. An acute hemorrhagic condition may produce symptoms with
loss of as little as 20% of the total blood volume (or 20% of the total red cell mass). Conversely,
anemias developing over periods long enough to allow compensatory mechanisms to operate will
allow much greater loss of rbc mass before producing symptoms. It is not terribly uncommon to see
a patient with a hemoglobin of 4

Report To Wordsworth And Lament
For my coursework I ve decided to choose the poems Report to Wordsworth and Lament .
The reason I ve chosen Report to Wordsworth as one of my poems to talk about is because it
shows the relationship between people and nature, but in this poem it isn t a good relationship
between them because in the poem it talks about how we have damaged the Earth. In the poem it
also has personification where the poet has personified Nature as a woman the poet has also used
similes and metaphors.
My other poem I ve decided to do is Lament because it talks about how the Gulf War has affected

Social Media Reflection
Social media is a medium in which people post about whatever they deem necessary. According
to Sherry Turkle s book Alone Together, a vast majority of teens also use it to create a name for
themselves and to pretend to be someone else; someone they want to be. However, in analyzing
my social media, it was very difficult to find any trace of what kind of character I was
attempting to portray. One similarity that I can see between Turkle s analysis of social media
and my personal account is that my account does portray a type of person that I aspire to be.
Online, I am in some unconscious way making a name for myself, but the problem arises when
there are no differences between my social media self and my real self. Online I portray myself
as a chill, relaxed person and my Facebook reflects that very well. I am not here to impress
anybody and I do not share anything for any other reason besides the fact that I enjoyed that thing. I
postwhen I feel I need to yet looking deeper into my likes and shares there are some small,
significant patterns between what I like and how it affects my image. Analyzing my social
media account, I found that I generally use a calm, realistic tone to give the impression that I am
a real relaxed, dust in the wind kind of guy. I don t care to change my profile picture and haven t
changed it since 8th grade. Even most of what I like and/or share has no specific agenda, it s just
simply what I find interesting or funny. On top of that, I haven t even shared anything in about
ten months and the only things I like are things that my family shares with me or tags me in. I
have not physically posted an update of my life or anything in five years only because I don t
feel the need to. For example, the last text post that I made was on my birthday in 2013, when I
thanked everyone who wished me a happy birthday. Even reading through my recent shares, I ve
come to realize that I do not intend to portray myself in any different way other than what I am.
The last thing that I shared was a video of a cat I thoughtmy sister would find amusing (which she

Perfume, By Patrick Suskind Essay
As a German writer, the reason for which Patrick Suskind wrote his critically acclaimed novel,
Perfume, in a French setting, about the French, is questionable. However, candidate answers lie in
the setting of the novel itself. Mid 18th century France, which is adjacent to Suskind s Germany,
harboured not only a national, but global revolution of politics, economics, and social norms
through the French reforms. This had plentiful influence on all aspects of Prussia since the late
17th century (when Germany was known as Prussia) to the present. This stepping stone to a change
in practicality lied in the French Revolution and the change of identity that it instilled upon the
populace. An exploration of Grenouille and perfume in Perfume reveals their symbolism of the
critical transition from religious prominence, to humanistic considerations, to nihilistic extremes
that ensued national and global chaos after the French Revolution to represents its influence on
Germany and its constituent populace.
Perfume s mid 18th century setting boasts a religious presence through the Kingship rights
employed by Roman Catholic Church doctrines, that was gradually diminishing due to an Age of
Enlightenment paradigm shift and an introduction of humanistic and nihilistic views from the
French Revolution. In past and present days, perfume has been a symbol of religion and divine
transcendence. Incense is often depicted as a transcendent connection to God in the form of smoke

Privacy And Freedom From Government Intrusion
Although people in the United States are entitled to privacy and freedom from government
intrusion, there is a limit to that privacy. State or federal police officers are allowed, where
justified, to search your premises, car, or other property in order to look for and seize illegal items,
stolen goods or evidence of a crime. There are certain rules that the policemust follow when
engaging in searches and seizures (FindLaw, 2014). Not every search, seizure, or arrest must be
made pursuant to a lawfully executed warrant. The Supreme Court has ruled that warrantless police
conduct may comply with the Fourth Amendment so long as it is reasonable under the
circumstances (FindLaw, 2014). First, this paper explains what the Fourth Amendment of the Bill

Theories Of Motivation By Herzberg And Vroom
1.Introduction
Due to a German proverb, It is commonly believed, that every human being has something that
drives him . In this context, the incentive of doing a special task has its roots in the motivation of
a person. The motivation of a person is generally based on personal expectations, values and overall
objectives.
Therefore, it is true that whether in our jobs or elsewhere in life, when we are grounded by our
core values and principles, we derive a sense of inner strength and confidence that enhances our
effectiveness (Froman 61). According to this, motivation plays an important role especially in the

Student Disability Inclusion Decisions
Student Disability and Inclusion Decisions
Elisabeta B. Coman
Sierra Nevada College Introduction
Students who receive family support for their academic performance have high goals. Usually,
when a student is identified in need of an individualized educational plan (IEP), the school
intervenes to help set these instructional goals. Essex (2008) states, The IEP is tailored specifically
to meet the needs of the child with disabilities . Below is a case study of a student with disabilities
inclusion in regular educational classes.
Sterns is justified in his decision because predicting the challenges that the special education
student will confront is his duty. School districts must utilize standards that identify the skill of a
person with disabilities rather than his or her impairments (Essex, 2008, p. 166). By placing a

The parents are aware that they are requesting the school to make the appropriate accommodations.
Receiving a denial seems as if the school is not willing to offer the adjustments under the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additional, the parents are interested in challenging their
child to perform at the same rate as a student placed in regular classes.
The special education law on inclusion suggests, School districts... have the responsibility of
ensuring that a reasonable standard of care is met when regular teachers work with students who
have disabilities (Essex, 2008, p. 149). Moreover, schools are required to monitor on a systematic
basis that the standards are met. By not following the law, the schools are susceptible to lawsuits.
The special educator is responsible for such monitoring. Essex (2008) adds, The lack of funds

The Night Of The Lake
The ride across the lake was everything Rose had imagined and more. She even thought she might
have seen the giant squid poke up out of the water. She tried to point it out to Albus, but it had
disappeared when he looked over.
They finally pulled up to the shore and began following Hagrid up the grounds to the castle. It was
so much bigger than she had imagined.
It s so big, Albus said in awe.
I was just thinking the same thing, Rose replied.
The students sidled up to the entrance. The doors opened and Hagrid shepherded the student into
the Hall.
Professor Longbottom will be with you in a moment to explain what will happen next. If any of
you ever need someone to talk to or a cup o tea, you can always come find me, Hagrid said looking
directly at Rose and Albus.
Just then, Uncle Neville (no wait, Professor Longbottom, Rose had to get used to calling him that)
came down the big flight of stairs.
Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! I am Professor Longbottom, Head of
Gryffindor House! I know some of you and I can t wait to get to know the rest of you in due
time. In just a moment, you will enter the Great Hall and we will begin the Sorting ceremony.
You will be placed into one of the four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
As I was told my first year at Hogwarts, your house will be like your family. You can earn points for
your house by being good students and good people. You can also lose points from your house if

The purpose of this report is to perform a comprehensive research on ANZ Banking Group Ltd. s
International business strategy, utilizing the concepts of Global Project Management. The
information is used to understand the current capability of the organization, and propose an ICT
solution that would support the organization s business strategy while meeting its business
requirements (Tang, 2010), helping the organization realize overall maturity. 1.2 Scope The

1.6 Literature Review The proposal has been drawn on concepts such as value chain analysis and
approaches to achieve competitive advantages in an organization. It has been stated in researches
that the competitive advantages of an organization are specific to a country and the value chain are
a reflection of its history, its strategy, its approach to implementing its strategy and the underlying
economics of the activities themselves (Porter, 1986, 1985). Since ANZ has its business located in
several countries, value configuration will be a crucial step in analysing the geographical
dispersion of activities (Schmid and Groshe, 2008) . The research on how business reengineering is
beneficial while implementing an ICT solution will help in drawing an outline of how it will
proceed (Huo et al, 2010). 2. ANZ s International Business Strategy 2.1 Introduction International
Business Strategy can be referred to as a plan of action where the internationally scattered
subsidiaries of an organization act independently, with minimum coordination with the parent
company (Twarowska, 2013). Few of the incentives (UT Arlington) that an organization achieves by
expanding international business strategy are listed below: Increased market size: The customer
base for the organization increases drastically, facilitating mergers and joint ventures with country
specific businesses. Greater returns on investments: Discovering Low cost countries to acquire

Physician Assisted Suicide Should Be Legalized
Is it appropriate for an individual to end their life through physician assisted suicide in developed
countries, specifically in the United States?
Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is the voluntary termination of one s own life by the administration
of a lethal substance with the direct or indirect assistance of a physician. The assistance of a
physician for a terminally ill patient to commit their own suicide, has been a much debated topic in
developed countries. It is a much bigger topic in developed countries than in developing
countries due to the advances of medicine. It is argued that physician assisted suicide shouldn t
be legalized because of religious and moral reasons. Additionally, PAS is incompatible with the
doctor s role as a healer. However, physician assisted suicide should be legalized because patients
should have the option to choose if they want to end their life. It is a way for people to be able to
die with dignity and without indefinite suffering.
Medical advances in developed countries has saved the lives of more individuals than ever before.
Developments in the field of medicine have benefited terminal patients by reducing their pain and
suffering. Medical advances can however prolong the death of a patient when they are in the final
stages of dying. Many argue that this has resulted in patients not being able to end their life with
dignity, particularly individuals who understand they are terminally ill. Terminally ill patients can

Case Study with Theoretical Application
Social workers hold themselves to high standards because they have a lot of responsibilities
toward their clients and the agency they work for. A social worker must be aware of services that
their agency provides and what they do not. They then must be aware of other agencies or
programs they can connect their clients to if they need extra services. Finally a social worker must
know their client to be able to help them to their fullest extent.

Analysis Of Andrew Light And Holmes Rolston s Book,...
In the introduction of Andrew Light and Holmes Rolston s book , Environmental Ethics: An
Anthology, the authors explain the basic concepts of ethics: more specifically environmental ethics,
and how they apply to everyday life. The main concepts discussed include moral agents, moral
patients, anthropocentrism, weak or broad anthropocentrism, indirectly morally considerable, and
directly morally considerable. These concepts are the foundations to the environmental ethicsthat
Light and Rolston wrote about; however, in regards to the short story written by J. Lanham
titled: Hope and Feathers: A crisis in birder identification, the two terms most predominately
relating to the text are moral patients and moral agents. Lanham, in this text, describes the
epitome of what it means to be a good moral agent, as interpreted by Light and Rolston, where
others failed. Light and Rolston define these terms in their text as, The class of moral patients is
that class of beings to whom we owe ethical obligations, when those obligations can be
ascertained, and are deserving of what we have been calling moral considerability. Moral agents
are defined as that class of moral patients, usually only persons, to whom we owe obligations and
who, in return, are held to be morally responsible for their actions. All moral agents are moral
patients but not all moral patients are moral agents. When we accord moral agents moral
recognition we can expect them to live up to certain duties related to

Essay On Siddhartha
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse details the life and quest of the novel s eponymous character, as he
ventures through countless walks of life in an attempt to achieve his ultimate goal: enlightenment.
His journey takes him through periods of both denial and excess, during the latter of which he
meets Kamala. Unlike Siddhartha, who spent his youth in holy devotion, Kamala is more akin to
the average person: she is a temptress, and thus has spent her life pursuing sensual pleasures and
material wealth. She serves first as a teacher but will eventually become a student of Siddhartha s
quest, as after many years of teaching her knowledge of lovemaking, discontent causes him to leave
her. The emptiness which comes from a life of gluttony is not isolated... Show more content on

Because of this, despite being in his early twenties, Siddhartha had still yet to have a romantic
relationship of any kind. It was shortly after he left his ascetic life that he had a prophetic dream
in which he envisioned himself in a sexual encounter; following this, Siddhartha sought to learn
the art of love making, and to embrace the physical pleasures which he had so long denied. On
his way to the city, Siddhartha has his first brief sexual encounter with a woman washing
clothes, but quickly moves on, believing better things to lie ahead; after seeing Kamala, he
knows this to be true. She is described as ...[having] heaped black hair... [a] bright, very sweet,
very clever face, a bright red mouth like a freshly cut fig, artful eyebrows painted in a high arch,
dark eyes, clever and observant, and a clear slender neck above her green and gold gown ( Hesse
51). But before Siddhartha can have the privilege of a relationship with Kamala, she tells him, He
must have clothes, fine clothes, and shoes, fine shoes, and plenty of money in his purse and
presents for Kamala (54). Siddhartha, dedicated and deliberate, goes on to attain fabulous wealth,

1990-1991 Gulf War Essay
1990 1991 Gulf War
The Gulf War, also called The Persian Gulf War, was an international armed crisis instigated by
Iraq s invasion to Kuwait in August 1990 and led up to a war against Iraq. The 1990 1991 Gulf
War, according to many war specialists and politicians, represents the first large scale armed
demonstration in the modern history, since World War II, as it involved two fighting parties: a
coalition of more than 35 countries including Canada, all against Iraq. Although the decision for the
United Nations to wage war against Iraq was not difficult, Canada remained reluctant to take clear
and serious measures in that regard. The Canadian government and the Canadian citizens had

Bush. The latter s influence was so noticeable that Mulroney made decisions regarding Canada s
role in the Persian Gulf Crisis without consulting Cabinet Robert Davis, pp. 16 17).
The change in Canada s military and political stand was significantly dictated by the change of the
Prime Minster. Jean ChrГ©tien, who took over few months after Mulroney, initiated a new trend in
the Canadian stance towards the Gulf Warand his decision publicized for that War as an apparent
victory to the coalition, there was a lot of global consternation about that War s legitimacy, costs
and results. The lingering effects of that war were not reflected in the immediate aftermath only, but
also in the subsequent years, afflicting all parties involved in that War.
Although not directly involved, Canada s government supported the action of the coalition and,
as part of the UN, sent off a naval force composed of the HMCS Terra Nova, HMCS Athabascan
and the HMCS Protecteur. Canadian CF 18 jets, with over 500 personnel, were based in Qatar and

Comparing The Seafarer And Wife s Lament
The Exeter poems are a compilation of poems and stories written in Old English, from the Anglo
Saxons. Three of these poems have gained special notoriety: The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and
Wife s Lament . Each of these poems have a bleak tone to them, and they speak of wandering
and loss, whether it s an emotional or physical loss. Both of the speakers in The Seafarer and The
Wanderer feel emotional loss and sadness while at sea, but believe that by being faithful and
continuing on their earthly journey, they will, in the end, achieve true happiness. The wife in Wife
s Lament has suffered the physical loss of her husband, and the loss of acceptance in her
community, but unlike the previous two poems, she does not seem to think she can achieve
happiness. Three messages, or themes, from The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and Wife s Lament are
suffering, exile, love.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is fairly obvious that each of these three speakers are suffering, though in different ways. The
speaker in The Seafarer suffers from loneliness and a prolonged feeling of despair as he spends
his winter at sea, which is miserable. He feels as if he has no friends, and is truly lonely. The
speaker in The Wanderer is scarcely different. He is also at sea due to exile, and he blames his
suffering on the loneliness and rejection he feels from kinsmen. He is also friendless and lonely,
like the previous speaker, and isn t sure on how to continue on. The wife in Wife s Lament
suffers as well. Her husband has wandered away, and she grieves his absence. She also grieves
over her feeling lonely and without friends, as she was left behind while her husband wandered.
The Exeter poems each has a distinct sense of suffering coming from each of the

Canada s Immigration Policy In The 20th Century
Canada s immigration policy has changed several times with many different extents of amendment
over the years. Particularly in times of social and economic downturns (or uprisings) throughout the
past, for instance World War I, the Depression, World War II, and even before 1914. In addition,
multiculturalism has made a drastic impact on immigrationand Canadian s tolerance of other s
cultures. Canadas immigration policy has also affected Canada s populationand the immigrants it

became increasingly severe and discriminatory. Prior to 1914, immigration policies were known as

In 1962, many new regulations were created that removed most limits on who can and cannot come
to Canada. Though Canada s government preferred British and European immigrants because they
could adapt easier, in 1967, Canada s legislation became colour blind and did t use the colour,
ethnicity, or cultural background as factors to determine the immigrant s status on becoming
Canadian or not. Instead they used a point system that was based on one s education and
employment prospects. For that reason, only certain amount of training for specific skills and tasks
would have to take place for them. On the other hand, refugees were constantly coming to Canada
such as the 11,000 refugees that came in 1968 after the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia.
Another law came into play in 1976, family members with relatives that were already in Canada
were allowed to immigrate into Canada. Throughout the 1970 s the three main groups of
immigrants were: refugees, families (relatives), and independent immigrants. The only group out of
the three that made up the points system were the independent immigrants. With that being stated,
the policy was much more permissive during the second half of the 20th century than the first

Dealing With Repeat, Criminal Offenders, And The Justice...
Dealing with repeat, criminal offenders, has become a hot topic issue in the corrections
community, as well as the justice system as a whole. Society demands to be protected from the
criminal element, and rightly so, but how do we identify the career criminals, and keep them from
harming others? Even though a small number of career criminals were responsible for the majority
of the crimes being committed in the country, it was not until the mid 1980s that selective
incapacitation began to be used (Mays Winfree, 2009). One of the assumptions, concerning career
criminals, is that here is no way to reform them. These offenders will continually commit criminal
acts as long as they are not incarcerated. To keep these career criminals locked away, many states
began passing laws to identify, and incarcerate them for mandatory lengths of time. By the mid
1980s, and the early 1990s, states began passing habitual offenders statutes, which in effect,
identified repeat offenders in the justice system, and sentencing them to long, mandatory prison
sentences, up to, and including life in prison without parole (Mays Winfree, 2009). These statutes
are known as the three strikes laws. The meaning behind this is that if an offender, who has been
convicted three times for criminal offenses, is incapable of reforming, and therefore should be
incarcerated, and kept away from the rest of society. In principle, this may sound like a great idea,
and a great way to keep society safe,

Summary Of Let There Be Dark By Paul Bogard
In this analysis, we will thematically analyze Paul Bogard s Let There Be Dark , a newspaper
article in the Los Angeles Times published on December 21st 2012. In terms of a purpose, we
must make the distinction between convincing and persuading. In my opinion, Bogard aims to
persuade push for action via emotional appeals his readers of the growing dangers of light
pollution as opposed to natural darkness. After he presents his main argument, Bogard also sets
forth some solutions to the problems to convince the reader that there is still hope. Bogard s
reliance on anecdotes from the past suggests this article is targeted primarily towards adults, as
they are the ones who can most relate with them. Throughout the article, Bogard uses logos, pathos,
and ethos to persuade the reader of his argument. This includes employing vivid language, facts,
logical reasoning, emotional appeals, and anecdotes. We will begin by analyzing how Bogard uses
logos to convey his point.
Bogard first uses logos when he mentions how 8 of 10 children (Bogard line 3) in the United States
will never know true darkness. This suggests that natural darkness is decreasing, thus setting the
premise for Bogard s argument. This statistic is effective because Bogard uses it to set a sharp
contrast between past and present generations. The main argument begins by Bogard referring to
how some major medical institutions, such as the World Health Organization, have acknowledged
the harmful

The European Union And The United Kingdom
The European Union and the United Kingdom have a long history. Winston Churchill himself is
credited with bringing about the idea for the EU as a United State of Europe . Many in the U.K
are now starting to feel that this may not be the best alliance the U.K could be in. The EU is seen
by many Brits as being too much oversight for too little gains. The U.K does not even identify as
majorly European, and therefore believe they should not have the oversight of the EU. The United
Kingdomleaving the EU should be seen as a major issue, and may be a reality by the end of the
decade. If this were to happen it would have major geopolitical effects on the EU as a whole. The
idea of the U.K not being wholly European is nothing new, the first... Show more content on

This wording only allows for the two possibilities, but Cameron would prefer a third option. The
Conservatives want to somehow work out a deal with the EU to allow the U.K to stay as a free
trade partner but not to be bound by EU policy. Germany has heavily opposed a special U.K
status, but is not opposed to the idea of multiple statuses within the EU for members. If the
referendum passes before these reforms are made the U.K will leave the European Union, this leads
most to expect that the U.K would quickly sign free trade agreements with all the other European
nations. Brits currently favor cession with 50% of those polled favoring it, and 36% not
favoring it. The U.K perspective on this is that many people support this, but there is a divide
between the public and the corporate world. The U.K identify closer to countries like Australia,
Canada, and the U.S than they do with the EU. This feeling of being British, not European has
only helped strengthen the argument for cession. The major group not supporting cession is
large corporations, while in the EU It is far easier for them to do business than if they had to deal
with a renegotiated Eurozone. Many Brits do not see the EU to be giving them much benefit, this
is perhaps the primary reason for leaving the EU. The EU costs Britain quite a bit of pounds each
year to maintain relations with them, and many brits say it is time for the U.K

How To Become A Truck Driver Essay
Get Your CDL And See America
If you re looking for a way to travel the United States and keep working too, then you may want
to think about becoming a truck driver. Depending on the job you get, you could travel all over
your state or all across the country. It s a great way to see the landscape of America from your
window as you roll along the interstate system. Here are a few things you should know.
State Requirements Vary
Each state has its own requirements as far as educational hours and testing for a truck driver s
license goes. However, they must all comply with the federal mandate that you obtain a CDL,
which is a commercial driver s license. There are two types: CDL A and CDL B. If you want to
drive a tractor trailer, you ll test for the CDL A license as that is what you need to drive a truck.
The CDL B is needed if you want to drive a smaller load, such as a local furniture delivery truck or
auto hauler. The first step on a new career as a truck driver is to visit your local DMV to find out the
requirements for licensing in your state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The safest way to do that is in a controlled environment in truck driving school. The school has
private grounds where you can practice parking and backing up the truck in a stress free
environment without other traffic around. Once you master the basic skills of truck driving, your
education continues on the open road where you learn how to handle a big truck in a variety of
situations.
If you already know how to handle a truck, it may still be worth it to get CDL training so you can
pass the DMV test. You ll need to pass a written test and a skills test just like you did for your
regular driver s license. CDL school prepares you for the test so you have a good chance to pass it
on your first attempt and don t waste time you could be

How Did Charles De Gaulle s Political Changes

Political Change during the 4th and 5th French Republics The political infrastructure and status of
European states has inspired discussion and sparked debate among political scientists for many
years. However, no other state has inspired comparative research and analysis more than France s
political culture and the numerous attempts of French leaders to implement a stable and effective
democracy. Although there had been a long tradition of republican politics in the country, Charles
De Gaulle, the first elected president by means of popular vote, was successful in democratizing
France. It is important to study the economic, societal, and political factors that led to the collapse

According to Anthony Downs, economist and author of An Economic Theory of Democracy, a
system of proportional representation, gives voters more options in regards to choosing a
president and political party, and influences the formation of coalitions which allows for an
increase in voter turnout (142). However, this system caused a different outcome among the
French people. In fact, voter turnout was at all time low due to dissatisfaction with the
government. Members of parliament were forced to form coalitions with smaller parties that they
had nothing in common with. It was very easy for the small parties, which were usually poorly
organized, to hold the balance of power because there had to be compromise in order for important
decisions to be made. There was a predominance of the MRP, Socialists and Communists in the
party system. This made it even more difficult for political stability to ensue. In addition to
miscommunication and a lack of compromise among the parties within the coalition governments,
tensions created by the cold war allowed for the rightist, RPF party to rise to power, tearing the
leftist coalition

  • 3. Human Tissue Essay We have known the amazing benefits of human tissue in medical research. These cells have helped with some of the most important advances in the sciences. They are used to develop vaccines for rabies, smallpox, and measles or used for radiation, drugs, cosmetics and viruses research which launched a million dollar industry [ Skloot, 316]. They have been used to find the cure for multibillion people, including most of us today. However, not that many people know where are these tissues come from or the stories of the donors who were desperate to protect their bodily rights and propertyrights. Most of the patients in the late 1950s have not been asked if they want to contribute their tissues to science, which has raised the debate over... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2) Whether the people whose made the cells or the scientists who developed the cells into valuable products own the cells? This is a complex issue which no body of laws, policies or ethics applied directly. No U.S statutes or judicial precedents have specifically indicated the ownership over human tissues and cells. The informed consent and the disclosure of potential cells that could be developed into a commercial product is to respect research subject s autonomy. It s a way to ask whether they want to participate in the study. As technology progresses, the people who are affected by the researches increased. Because of the power of genetics, you can study these materials and find out secrets about a person and his or her relatives, says Arthur L.Capian, director of the Center Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia [Strauss, 190]. Science now has the ability to identify genes from a single cell, it was no longer using tissue scraps for experiments it was that someone could uncover the research subjects s genetic information and violate their privacy and their children s privacy. In 1976, John Moore s case doctor,David Golde has used his cell to develop, market and patent a cell line called MO. Patenting cell lines did not require informing or getting permission from the donors during that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reduce Energy Usage Strategies to Reduce Energy Usage in Offices and increase IT Sustainability Research Studies by Intel Corporation. According to an Intel White Paper of December 2009, Intel reported these studies about reduction of energy usage in offices. Evaluating Enabling Technologies Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade companies have shifted to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily, in an effort to increase employee productivity. A secondary benefit has been to significantly improve energy efficiency. To determine the factors that affect office power consumption, and further improve energy efficiency, Intel conducted a power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Intel s studies have shown that raising employees awareness of how much power their equipment is consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in reducing energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company: Intel conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by showing employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer when it s not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a baseline of energy consumption through real time metering of energy use in 12 cubicles. In one group, they focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days, Intel provided this group with information on how much energy they were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any other information or requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group they installed a third party software agent that deployed and enforced power management profiles. The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of idle time, and to put the PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two additional weeks of real time metering, Intel examined the energy use of the two groups. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparison Of King Lear And The Great Gatsby King Lear and Jay Gatsby are both influential and wealthy men consumed by obsession and lose everything in their desperate pursuit of love. This is their tragic flaw; and one that ultimately leads to their demise. Within Shakespeare s King Lear and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, the following human flaws are explored: obsession, greed, yearning, and loss. These flaws are a commonality between these two characters. Although these flaws are standard for many characters among many genres, they are unique only to Lear and Gatsby because they lead to their death. Lear and Gatsby share a dream of power and love, but this dream slowly becomes an unhealthy obsession. King Lear is so blinded by his love for his daughters that he does not see that they are only using him for his wealth. Jay Gatsby shares a mutual experience; he is oblivious to Daisy Buchanan s materialistic and selfish ways and is helpless to her charms. In Act Two of King Lear, the Fool tells the King ...fathers that bear bags shall see their children kind. (2.4 49 50), a premonition that clearly illustrates how Lear s daughters love him only for his riches. Both men are bound by their mutual suffering caused by the women that dominate their lives. It is obvious in The Great Gatsby that Daisy Buchanan is a woman who only has eyes for powerful men and when she realizes that Gatsby is a self made millionaire, she casts him aside. The same occurs in King Lear; Goneril and Regan only proclaim to love their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Villa Borghese Baroque art encompasses a broad range of art from Dutch genre paintings to dramatic and theatrical Italian pieces. Because of the religious, socio economic, and political events of the time, Baroque art can hardly been contained into one description. Politically, the rulers and monarchies used commissioned art to emphasize assert their authority, power and right to rule. Religiously, the Reformation caused the Catholic Church to commission provoking pieces of piety and devotion. And Socio economically, the rising middle class in many areas of Europe wanted pieces of art to further improve prestige in the social scene and improve their reputation. The Villa Borghese, owned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, was a place where visitors would view, respond and discuss the immense collection of art, which brought together both antique and modern pieces of art. Many of the pieces were a mix of old and new works and artists were commissioned to give unified fragments a character in the collection, showing the new way of inventiveness at the end of the seventeenth century. During this specific time, artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini were huge influencers in the art world. His pieces Apollo and Daphne, 1623 4; Rape of Proserpina, 1621 2; and Hermaphrodite, unknown, depict the story of ancient myths, and were commissioned to be conversation pieces that generate multiple meanings, senses of realism, and juxtapositions. The Cardinal also trusted Bernini to create a bust of himself title Cardinal Scipione Borghese, in 1632. The piece was executed beautifully and portraying a lively Cardinal, so realistic in its depiction that the only thing missing was speech. The piece helped to endorse Scipione s social positions and prestige. The spectators would discuss the different stories behind the pieces as they moved around and saw the changing points of view as well as marveled at Bernini s ability to create artistic illusion and make marble look like leaves, skin, bark, and hair. • 8. International Students Cope With Eating American Cuisine... Summary Paragraph: One of the many issues that international students face is coping with American food. With food being linked to culture, international students must face one of the hardest tasks when coming to America, eating someone else s culture while neglecting their own. In this research project, I will investigate how international students cope with eating American cuisine or what measures they take to avoid it. Introduction: Nothing represents a culture better than food. Food is the fastest way for people to bond and experience one another s culture. Thousands of students travel from international colleges and universities. These people spend most of their life eating different foods, foods that they are accustomed to and are naturally born to like. Before starting college, I never gave any thought of how international students feel about consuming food of another culture for entire year or in some cases, for multiple years. This is what gave me the idea to study the culture of international students, including their practices and daily routines. According to The Kansas State Collegian [daily newspaper at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas], international students attending the University share a fear of gaining weight from eating American food. American food is portrayed to them as greasy and not very diverse . Tang, an international student, who attends KSU claims that in China, her friends would worry for her weight, making her watch what she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction The area of interest is located in the San Joaquin Valley, California, primarily in the western part of Fresno County, California. The primary land uses in the region are irrigated cropland, livestock, grazing, and urban and home development (USDA 2015). Other land uses include recreation and wildlife habitats. The land survey of the region consists of series of straight lines delineating fields of crops, typically running north to south. A series of squares dominates the aerial view of the region. The region experiences hot and dry summers with an average July high of 92В°F and has historically experienced cool and rainy winters with an average January low of 38В°F which normally lasts between November and April. However,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rest of the area contains natural areas (trees shrubs) with 15.9% (1,928.1 acres) and water with 0.6% (73.7 acres). In 2014, the gross value of Fresno County agriculture production exceeded seven billion dollars. Almonds was the number one crop at a value of $1.3 billion and grapes was a close second at $905 million (County of Fresno, Department of Agriculture 2015). Other important crops include poultry ($654 million), milk ($636 million), tomatoes ($524 million), pistachios ($378 million), garlic ($202 million), and cotton ($135 million). The diversity, high total acreage and crop yield are the result of favorable factors; the Mediterranean climate, long growing seasons, productive soils, and readily available and plentiful irrigation. Agricultural operations in the area have significant and permanent impact on the properties and management of the soils in the study area. Farming practices such as land leveling and irrigation impacts surface soils and deeper soil profiles due to the percolation of irrigation water. The current drought afflicting the region has increased the number of fallow acres steadily because of the relative unreliability of the water supply. The lack of surface water availability has forced farmers to turn more to groundwater to irrigate their crops. The pumping of water from deep wells and increased consumption of ground water contributes to ground subsidence which in turn, affects the geomorphology of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When competitors offer a lower price, it will enhance the possibility of the customer changing the purchase behavior (Wathne et al., 2001), and also undermine the consumer s consumption inertia for the original company. The study found that there are three issues existing in the studies of customer purchasing behavior in the fast food industry: (1) Why can consumers rapidly return in such a short period of time after a fast food industry negative news outbreak, or even not be impacted at all. Therefore, regarding the factors that impact customer loyalty in the fast food industry, in addition to customer satisfaction, are there any other important impact factors? • 11. Definition Of A Neutral Question There is no such thing as a neutral question. Evaluate this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge. In order to evaluate this statement, we must clearly understand what is a neutral question. A definition of a neutral question can be: A question asked in such a way that it does not imply personal opinion or bias. I assume that a true question has to be neutral. If a question reveals to be non neutral, the objectivity that defines a question doesn t exist anymore. It becomes a statement or a judgement with a question make up. To develop the evaluation of this statement, we have to figure out what are the conditions for a question to be neutral. The point of a question is to request knowledge or information; it gives control over the direction taken to fill in the request. One could argue that the initial choice of what question is asked, in itself, is a form of bias and on those grounds, neutrality is impossible any time there is a question. For this reason, it might be good to think of neutrality on a continuum with some questions being more neutral than others. Examples of neutral questions can be identified as: Can you describe the kind of information you would like to find? Or what are you hoping to find? A neutral question can then be defined as a bias free enquiry for knowledge. For my Areas of Knowledge I will be referencing Ethics and Natural sciences. What is neutrality? Neutrality is about not going forward or backward or taking a side. Neutrality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The narrator of The Tell Tale Heart, upon spying the vulture eye of the old man, depicts it as all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over [the eye] that chilled the very marrow in [his] bones (Poe 355). Through using the word hideous and the phrase chilled the very marrow in [his] bones , the narrator blatantly reveals his wariness towards the old man s eye. The narrator feels threatened by the eye, which indirectly characterizes him as insane because it is unnatural for people to feel terrorized by appearance. Additionally, the speaker in The Raven claims that while he dreams about Lenore in the presence of the raven, the air [grows] denser, perfumed from an unseen censer / Swung by Seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor (Poe 79, 80). Unrealistic Beauty Standards Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does DOVE Campaign for Real Beauty People need to be informed on the issue that unrealistic beauty standards, set by the society, are harmful. These standards cause a schema that combines three fundamental components: the idealization of slenderness, an irrational fear of fat, and a belief that weight is a central determinant of one s identity (Lintott 67). Our society promotes a specific body image as being attractive: being thin. It is represented throughout mass media, both in the physical and online worlds. The media exposes individuals, especially women, to impractical body types. Today, negative body image encourages women to engage in disordered eating behaviors to fit an impractical standard of beauty. In fact, according to the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA), 20 million females will suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life (Lintott 68). We contribute so much time striving to look like what society wants us to resemble. Some individuals believe that this thin ideal is the norm and that the media is not causing any harm. But, this thin ideal is detrimental. Non heme sources such as the iron in beans, grains and vegetables is not nearly as well absorbed by the body. Absorption: The capacity of the body to absorb iron from the diet is a crucial factor for developing iron stores and maintaining functional iron. My other poem I ve decided to do is Lament because it talks about how the Gulf War has affected the people, the animals and also the environment around us, like Report To Wordsworth the poem explores the feeling of sorrow, grief and empathy. According to Sherry Turkle s book Alone Together, a vast majority of teens also use it to create a name for themselves and to pretend to be someone else; someone they want to be. However, in analyzing my social media, it was very difficult to find any trace of what kind of character I was attempting to portray. One similarity that I can see between Turkle s analysis of social media and my personal account is that my account does portray a type of person that I aspire to be. Online, I am in some unconscious way making a name for myself, but the problem arises when there are no differences between my social media self and my real self. Online I portray myself as a chill, relaxed person and my Facebook reflects that very well. I am not here to impress anybody and I do not share anything for any other reason besides the fact that I enjoyed that thing. I postwhen I feel I need to yet looking deeper into my likes and shares there are some small, significant patterns between what I like and how it affects my image. • 38. Perfume, By Patrick Suskind Essay As a German writer, the reason for which Patrick Suskind wrote his critically acclaimed novel, Perfume, in a French setting, about the French, is questionable. However, candidate answers lie in the setting of the novel itself. Mid 18th century France, which is adjacent to Suskind s Germany, harboured not only a national, but global revolution of politics, economics, and social norms through the French reforms. This had plentiful influence on all aspects of Prussia since the late 17th century (when Germany was known as Prussia) to the present. This stepping stone to a change in practicality lied in the French Revolution and the change of identity that it instilled upon the populace. An exploration of Grenouille and perfume in Perfume reveals their symbolism of the critical transition from religious prominence, to humanistic considerations, to nihilistic extremes that ensued national and global chaos after the French Revolution to represents its influence on Germany and its constituent populace. Perfume s mid 18th century setting boasts a religious presence through the Kingship rights employed by Roman Catholic Church doctrines, that was gradually diminishing due to an Age of Enlightenment paradigm shift and an introduction of humanistic and nihilistic views from the French Revolution. In past and present days, perfume has been a symbol of religion and divine transcendence. Incense is often depicted as a transcendent connection to God in the form of smoke and scent, ... Physician Assisted Suicide Should Be Legalized Is it appropriate for an individual to end their life through physician assisted suicide in developed countries, specifically in the United States? Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is the voluntary termination of one s own life by the administration of a lethal substance with the direct or indirect assistance of a physician. The assistance of a physician for a terminally ill patient to commit their own suicide, has been a much debated topic in developed countries. It is a much bigger topic in developed countries than in developing countries due to the advances of medicine. It is argued that physician assisted suicide shouldn t be legalized because of religious and moral reasons. Additionally, PAS is incompatible with the doctor s role as a healer. However, physician assisted suicide should be legalized because patients should have the option to choose if they want to end their life. It is a way for people to be able to die with dignity and without indefinite suffering. Medical advances in developed countries has saved the lives of more individuals than ever before. Developments in the field of medicine have benefited terminal patients by reducing their pain and suffering. Moral agents are defined as that class of moral patients, usually only persons, to whom we owe obligations and who, in return, are held to be morally responsible for their actions. Dealing with repeat, criminal offenders, has become a hot topic issue in the corrections community, as well as the justice system as a whole. Society demands to be protected from the criminal element, and rightly so, but how do we identify the career criminals, and keep them from harming others? Even though a small number of career criminals were responsible for the majority of the crimes being committed in the country, it was not until the mid 1980s that selective incapacitation began to be used (Mays Winfree, 2009). One of the assumptions, concerning career criminals, is that here is no way to reform them. These offenders will continually commit criminal acts as long as they are not incarcerated. To keep these career criminals locked away, many states began passing laws to identify, and incarcerate them for mandatory lengths of time. By the mid 1980s, and the early 1990s, states began passing habitual offenders statutes, which in effect, identified repeat offenders in the justice system, and sentencing them to long, mandatory prison sentences, up to, and including life in prison without parole (Mays Winfree, 2009). These statutes are known as the three strikes laws. The meaning behind this is that if an offender, who has been convicted three times for criminal offenses, is incapable of reforming, and therefore should be incarcerated, and kept away from the rest of society. In my opinion, Bogard aims to persuade push for action via emotional appeals his readers of the growing dangers of light pollution as opposed to natural darkness. After he presents his main argument, Bogard also sets forth some solutions to the problems to convince the reader that there is still hope. Bogard s reliance on anecdotes from the past suggests this article is targeted primarily towards adults, as they are the ones who can most relate with them. Throughout the article, Bogard uses logos, pathos, and ethos to persuade the reader of his argument. This includes employing vivid language, facts, logical reasoning, emotional appeals, and anecdotes. We will begin by analyzing how Bogard uses logos to convey his point. Bogard first uses logos when he mentions how 8 of 10 children (Bogard line 3) in the United States will never know true darkness. This suggests that natural darkness is decreasing, thus setting the premise for Bogard s argument. This statistic is effective because Bogard uses it to set a sharp contrast between past and present generations. Many in the U.K are now starting to feel that this may not be the best alliance the U.K could be in. The EU is seen by many Brits as being too much oversight for too little gains. The major group not supporting cession is large corporations, while in the EU It is far easier for them to do business than if they had to deal with a renegotiated Eurozone. Many Brits do not see the EU to be giving them much benefit, this is perhaps the primary reason for leaving the EU. The EU costs Britain quite a bit of pounds each year to maintain relations with them, and many brits say it is time for the U.K ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, this system caused a different outcome among the French people. In fact, voter turnout was at all time low due to dissatisfaction with the government. Members of parliament were forced to form coalitions with smaller parties that they had nothing in common with. It was very easy for the small parties, which were usually poorly organized, to hold the balance of power because there had to be compromise in order for important decisions to be made. There was a predominance of the MRP, Socialists and Communists in the party system. This made it even more difficult for political stability to ensue. In addition to miscommunication and a lack of compromise among the parties within the coalition governments, tensions created by the cold war allowed for the rightist, RPF party to rise to power, tearing the leftist coalition ...
